Hi to all the Eds and Fellow Reds

So much discussion about which team drops out if an English team wins CL or EL. come on chaps, no English team will win CL this year. Next year, hopefully with us in it, an English team from Liverpool who play in red has a great chance of winning it!

But more seriously guys, let us first support the boys and BR to get to the top4 or even higher First!

Seeds of fear/excitement already bubbling inside. Will be ok once the match starts. 3 good result from the coming 3 away games and we will be set. Come on, Redmen. YNWA
P.S. these last games are even more stressful! God help me!

As much as it pains me to say it. And I know Ed02 will like this I want Chelsea to win it.
I cannot see any of the other 3 overturning there 2-0 defeats. The only one's I can see if they put it together are Utd and I think no one wants to see that happen.
If Chelsea can do well it will give us the chance of holding onto 4 places for the CL. Making it easier for us to qualify in future.
Although if we continue our progression like we have this season. We won't be talking about 4th spot nest season we will be challenging for 1st.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Nobody is suggesting that England will lose four places in the short-term - just second place in the rankings.}

I'd prefer it if they lost in the final.

We don't want Jose's ego to get any bigger.

Eds.do you think will start with Allen in midfield with countino dropping to the bench I for one think it may give us more balance in the middle of the park what's your opinions guys ynwa.reddave

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no, I think he will stick with the same team that started last week pretty much. Depending on injuries.}

28 Feb 2014 22:04:29
Alright eds
Just wondering clearly we all know what the aim is for the summer, strengthen left back centre mid and wide player and possibly assess some loanees I see if we need to add some depth and clear out some players for possible champions leave games.
Was just wondering what the eds preference would be for these three priority positions?
If we stick to players we can afford and have shown an interest in and would be likely to want to come, who do you think would be the best options?
Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I really haven't thought about it mate. There are so many players out there I haven't had the chance to watch recently, I wouldn't know who was the best option.}

28 Feb 2014 21:26:20
I would go for Touré to partner Agger tomorrow as we need to bring back some composure and organisation amongst our defence. I am sure Touré can help with that playing in his preferred position at right centre back.

I would play Flanno at right back as he has been successful in dealing with the likes of Baines, Coleman and Walker already this season and I think he could be equally effective against Shaw.

Also, Cissokho at left back to do his job of defending as we could do with his strength against the attacking threat of Clyne.

Would you agree?

Red Rum

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The words toure composure and organisation don't belong in the same sentence

Agree0 Disagree0

Not when he is playing at left centre back Abo. In his preferred position (right centre back) he is fine.

For me, it is either Skrtel and Sakho or Touré and Agger.

Eds and reds,
I think it's safe to say that Fabio Borini and Iago Aspas have not shown the potential to replace Luis Suarez or Daniel Sturridge from a starting spot.
However, I would like to throw out a wild shout. What about Danny Welbeck?
I think he could be another Daniel Sturridge; good player not getting enough opportunity at his current club, because their throwing cash at more experienced strikers, that could really step up a gear with the right manager.
I am awaiting the abuse and claims that I am a troll but I think he could be a very good option for us. What do you think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - seriously? He makes Djimi Traore look like a skilful player! He is one of the worst players I have seen, outside of a Souness team.}

Phenom, keep taking the tablets pal

Agree0 Disagree0

Phenom - may I suggest that you go on the Man U banter page and propose that to them that we take DW off their hands. I think you will find that a lot of them are in agreement with you.

Enough said.

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha good one Phenom ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

I stand by the statement guys, I think his power, pace and composure could make him a quality player under the right management, which is not David Moyes.
I'm not saying he would walk into the first team but I think he could be good cover and competition for Daniel Sturridge.
I don't think we can realistically get Danny Welbeck, I doubt we'll do business with Man United in the near future, maybe when they've cemented themselves as a mid-table team.
I think he has what it takes and he's just stuck behind Rooney and Van Persie like Sturridge was stuck behind Torres and Drogba.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - composure? He has none! That is why he barely scores, despite numerous chances. He is quick, tall and useless. It is nothing to do with Moyes, the lad is just not a good player. To compare him with Sturridge is lunacy. Sturridge had always had ability, it was attitude that was holding him back. Welbeck has never displayed any kind of ability at any stage.}

Fair play to you Phenom for having the bravery to send in that post. It's all about opinion and no doubt DW will get his chance at another club but I genuinely don't think he is or ever will be at DS' level.

Agree0 Disagree0

Welbeck has delusions of adequacy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not many players on the planet could replace SAS at the min mate. As for DW I think he's poor. I'd take that Hernandez as a sub though he's got goals all over him. Anyway,, United Liverpool should never do business over players IMO. I'm old fashioned

Hi Ed,
Some advice please.
Walked past a bookmakers window today and saw Manchester United are 400 - 1 to win the Premier League.
Should I risk a £1 bet?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - is there a time limit on the bet?}

There was an elderly man with a red nose staring at the sign and mumbling something about " 5 years"

Hi Ed01, hope your well and looking forward to another busy weekend. Just like to start today off really with your opinion on a couple of players of ours and a couple who are linked with us in the press today.
Firstly Aspas? I liked him in pre season, but he has looked a bit light weight and whether it's bad luck or injuries it just hasn't happened for him this season, do you see him staying?
Borrini, he seems to be getting his fitness and confidence back under Poyet, and in my opinion Sunderland will play a game more suited to him now Di Canio has left, so another loan there would not be a disaster, or do you think he will want more?
Then Firmino? this is in a few papers and seems to have come out the blue? Another attacking Mid seems a bit of a strange one to me. And then once again Bojan, this might just be lazy reporting but he does seem to get linked to us repeatedly, do you know if Rodgers does have any interest in the player? Or is he just available ( and around our price so to speak ) so gets linked.
I personally think it will be a lot like last year, if Suarez ends the season top scorer and trouble free he will be the hottest property in World football and as Ed02 keeps stating, who we bring in might depend on who leaves?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Aspas I like as a player, he just needs to beef up, he is brushed off the ball with little effort. Shame, because he has good quality and his workrate is immense, but it is useless if you can't give him the ball without it being taken off him by a strong gust of wind.
I think Borini deserves a chance with us next season, especially if we do make the Champions League and need to go through qualifiers. Those extra games will take their toll on a player like Sturridge, who will need the odd rest of his limbs. I don't see anyone else on our books who could offer us more playing up front, just not out wide, he is not a wide player.
I don't know anything regarding Firmino, I thought we were keeping an eye on 3 of their players, but Firmino was never one that was mentioned to me. Before anyone asks, they have 3 youngsters we are keen on, one is a keeper, one is a left back and the other is Volland. I can't remember the names of the keeper and left back, I haven't had the time to chase up more info on them either yet.}

Hi eds,

Just saw an earlier reply and just wanted to know how the system works or will change so only 3 teams will get champions League. Is it a points based system depending on the performance of the teams that are in it. Also what will help to keep 4th place a champions league spot would say if Chelsea or city won it this season help for the future.

Many thanks,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is a ranking system based on performance by each team over the past five years that creates a league if you like for nations. To keep four places England need to be ranked in the top three. They are currently 2nd but may well drop to 3rd by the end of the season. The better English clubs do the better the ranking for England.}

Bit of luck Liverpool will win it next year so city, Chelsea and arsenal can still have a little go the year after.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are currently ranked 30 in Europe and by the start of next season will be ranked in the 50s or 60s. This is the sort of thing that what puts England having four places at risk.}

We can start to put that right next season ed :)

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2014 19:18:12
Oh that makes sense I guess its a fair way to do it. I just hope the English clubs do better because to finish in the top three would be a pretty big ask. Thanks for the quick reply Ed02.

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool ranked 50 or 60s wow was we really that bad

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is not how bad we are, it is a lack of actually taking part that has reduced our ranking so badly.}

28 Feb 2014 17:07:43
I'm after opinions as to the appointment of boothroid as u20 england manager. It's well known how awful hodgeson is especially on a Liverpool forum & I'd of happily seen England not qualify so that he would be sacked for the greater good in my opinion. I do not care for the negative football & would much prefer most other managers. The fa is full of jokers as proved recently with anelkas ban. The sort of manager we needed was a Brendan Rodgers with him appointing the likes of inglethorpe & chrichley as u21 & u20 coaches with similar appointments for the lower ages. That is what was needed when instead we get hodgeson & pierce & then peter Taylor & now boothroid do they not have an ounce of imagination? Edoo1 thoughts please

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Bothroyd is awful, typical of the old English hoofball system. England is run by dinosaurs, coaching courses set by dinosaurs and producing coaches that are dinosaurs. The whole set up is a joke. Thankfully most of the academies are better.}

Maybe another dismal showing in Brazil might encourage a drastic change of direction by the FA.
Doubt it though, the failure will be blamed on (pick one or two of the following)
Weather (too hot)
Weather (too humid)
No winter break
Bad refereeing decision
Penalties
Stadium too mountainous/remote
Pirlo or some other hate figure from another side (that's better)
Players distracted by the local pubic haircuts

Just read an interview with Rodgers saying agger will start against Southampton.

Who would you all play alongside him?

Toure for me.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would not play Agger in any game. He is not a good defender to say the least

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd like to say Sakho, but this isn't the game to test that combo as it could fail hard. Toure for me. I wouldn't play Skrtel again this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks green t but that wasn't the question at least say who you would play instead.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think I'm right in saying the Saints boss has out foxed BR in the last 2 games losing both. We struggled to create chances against them at Anfield, just praying we don't go 3 at CB. Skirts will start along side Agger and be ripped apart. Hopefully we will out score them

Hi Eds,

Just reading a report on JEROME SINCLAIR and updates on him as what i'm reading is comparing him to Sterling?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Maybe in the fact that early last season he was fantastic & suddenly went to pot however he hasn't yet re appeared as half the player he was unlike sterling who has come back better than he ever was

Hi lads, anyone know where on the internet I might be able to revisit ' Being Liverpool'? I really fancy giving it another watch but I can't find it anywhere, and I don't want to pay for it because I'm moving to the US in less than a week so it won't work on their DVD players due to region locking T_T

Believable0 Unbelievable0

U can find it on kat.ph. u need utorrent to download the file.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have been watching it the over past few weeks. You can get the first few episodes on watchseries.to, however you will have to search the internet for some episodes as the links are broken. You will find them through google.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm moving to the states in a year or so and have tons of DVDs. Best thing to do is get a multi regional DVD player, available at best buy (other stores are also available)

Agree0 Disagree0

Gents I live in Canada, moved over 6 years ago. When you get this side go to Walmart and buy a rubbishty DVD player go online and get the hack to make it multi regional. I picked up one for equivalent of about 50 quid.

Remember if you bring any electrical items that the voltage here is different, I purchased a few transformers prior to leaving the UK and they did me until I gradually replaced things.

Every tough game since Christmas we've won and destroyed teams to, we've had tott & stoke away and thrashed them, I'm feeling were gunna see this again at Southampton, the media making a big thing about it, I think we're gunna thrash them, the players have belief that we can win the title!

Ed's also
If the winners of the Europa next year get CL qualification does that mean if Tottenham or Everton won it & another English team won the CL the top 4 and 3rd places in the league would go to them?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - You are going to need to reword the question - I have no idea what you are talking about.}

Europa league winner won't get cl spot

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - From 2015.}

If an English team wins the Europa Cup next year would that mean it is in place of a top 4 team? The same as if an English team wins the Champions League?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, but if both the CL and EL winners finish outside of the top four, then yes.}

The winners or the champions league and the europa get places that have no effect on the domestic places, so there could be 6 teams from england in the champions league for the 2016/17 season onwards.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, if both the CL and EL winners finish outside of the top four, then the 4th placed team drop to the EL. By then England may only have three places in the CL.}

I think he means if Europa winners are outside top 4 is it only the top 3 that get champions league places?

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2014 19:17:40
I had heard that the Europa League winner's would only take one of the Champions League positions from that country if the Champions League winners were also from the same League. In other words the Europa League winners would have their own separate Champion's League place in addition to the Champion's League placings for the country involved.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is explained above.}

Hi Eds, I am aware of what you have said about Firmino and I've read the posts on him. Can I just ask please what sort of player is he? He sent the central mid or a winger is he? Is he more of a number 10? Also do you think he could be good enough?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - He is a right-sided attacking midfield player. He is considered to be a decent player.}

28 Feb 2014 11:02:26
Been looking forward to tomorrow all season! Live down here and have tickets for the match. got to sit with my son though in the Saints area (he's a fan and plays for their Academy), just hope I can control myself!

I know if we play how we can then 3 points can be ours. Will be some good battles, Flano v Shaw, Lovren v Sturridge Suarez v the rest? :)

Not too many mistakes to let in Lambert, Rodriguez and Lallana and smiles on Sat eve!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm not looking forward to it at all mate. the saints have given a headache for two seasons now.
Hope ken wears his lucky pants for away days.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have a good time mate!

Agree0 Disagree0

Fingere crossed we flood midfield with gerrard, hendo and allen coming in for coutinhio. sas will cause any teams a problem going forward but we need to boss the midfield firstly and allen is the player to make a difference for us with his running and possesion. I hate to say it but i'd pick toure before agger all season and i'm a massive agger fan.

Agree0 Disagree0

Big Ears. bout time we gave it back then!

28 Feb 2014 13:17:37
The way to beat Southampton is to press high and not let them run at you. They don't have any real pace in terms of getting in behind, but they have a few skillful players who can beat a man. Unfortunately, Rodgers will probably play Skrtel and if that happens, we will lose or draw this game. He naturally drops deeper than the other defenders which leaves holes and allows the opposition to press forward. If Toure and Sakho are fit, they should play. If not, Toure and Agger should. We need to dominate the midfield so I'd also go with 3 midfielders (Gerrard, Hendo and Allen). Southamptons weakness is they press high and leave space at the back. If we can sting them early on with the pace and movement of Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling I think we could win. Coutinho should be brough on for Gerrard when he tires as he is very direct and can hurt tiring teams with his vision.

Rodgers may opt for a different approach and I can see us sitting deep and trying to get Gerrard to ping some balls forward to try and hit them on a fast break. I hope this isn't the case because if that happens I think we'll see another Swansea game where both teams score 2/3 goals. If we press high though, I'd fancy us to outclass then. Swansea showed us what happens when you sit back and try to soak up pressure with an average defence. I don't fancy us to score 4 away from home either if we play counter attacking football.

Then again, I'm not a Premier league manager! Whatever way we set up, let's hope Rodgers gets it right. If we play with the same intensity we did against Arsenal in the FA cup, we will win (so long as we take our chances this time!).

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

Alright Old Big Ears 05? I will definitely be wearing the lucky pants for every one of our remaining matches.
However, for some reason they don't work as well away from home. So although I'll wear them, I can't promise another heavy victory.
Still think we'll win, Saints are on a bit of a slump.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope you guys are right this game vfor some reason has being on my mind. its a game we need a win to start us off on good run

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate I wouldn't worry about Skrtel it's Agger you really need to be deeply concerned about

Ed001 with people saying we need a center half I seen you talk about a few players but what's your view on Lovren from Southampton? Good enough or not

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he would be excellent, but little to no chance of getting him right now. That lad made a huge difference to Southampton this season, even seems to raise the game of the player who partners him at the back. Unfortunately, I can't see Southampton selling him to us for a reasonable amount.}

You do know Bill Shankly whispers in to the ear of Flannagan before a match?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he is another hoof it long merchant, the FA are a joke.}

quick question to any of the Ed's, or any poster who knows, IF we do qualify for champions league, I am not sure how the coefficient points work, which seed would be?

just to mention, I have been reading this site for almost 5 years, I don't post much, but I love it! big thank you to everyone's time and effort into helping run the site =]

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - that is not resolved until the qualifiers get in, I believe, as it is based upon the individual club's coefficient rating and the league's as well.}

Liverpool U21 4-0 Wolves U21
Cracking performance by our young lads who played at Anfield in front of Brendan Rogers and Colin Pascoe. Dunn took possession in a central area, moved forward and thundered a ferocious shot from 25 yards into the net for 1-0 on 44 mins.Dunn's whipped cross from the right hand side was knocked into his own goal by Wolves man Iorfa on 48 mins and, within 60 seconds, Lussey diverted an excellent delivery by Villyan Bijev with his head to extend the lead to three.
The Reds were dominant and before long, it was four; Rossiter joined the attack, drifted around a series of tackles and calmly side-footed the ball with his left around the goalkeeper to nestle into the Kop end netting.
U21s team: Mersin, Sama (Williams), Maguire, Paez, Jones, Rossiter, Dunn, Lussey (Chirivella), Bijev (Sinclair), Brannagan, Peterson. Unused substitutes: Sokolik, Firth.
