Hi Ed001 if your about.Could you tell me more about Tom Saunders and Ruben Bennett please.I know they were part of the Bootroom and very well respected but I don't know what their roles where within the club or what the players thought of them.
Thanks Ed

Believable4 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - Tom Saunders was the modern equivalent of the head of the youth academy. He was the first of his kind in English football, supposedly, though I have no idea if that is true. He was 'Youth Development Officer', bringing through the youth players. He also did a lot of scouting and ended up as chief scout as well.
Reuben Bennett was basically the fitness coach. Again we were well ahead of the rest of England with that. That is why Shankly was so successful, he looked forward, always looking for new ideas to give the club an advantage.}

Was only thinking of something similar the other day ed
Wenger changed English football with his out look I was thinking what could be improved to make players better like Wenger did with diets ect

Just one last question please Ed.How did the players get on with them?I read a good while ago that they were really gentlemen but with very sharp football brains.Is that true?
Barry inLouth

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - they were highly respected, and yes they were gentlemen with very sharp football brains, that is why we were such a successful side. It wasn't just Shanks and Paisley, they surrounded themselves with people who knew the game well and worked together as a team.}

01 Mar 2015 11:11:53
Thank you very much Ed I never really knew the full story about these two Bootroom greats.
BarryinLouth

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - they do tend to be in the background of everything, but not a lot is mentioned about them. Shame as they were a huge part of the club's success.}

Rodgers gambled and lost on Thursday, in the hope that we would get a result and then have a stronger team for Sunday.
It may be hard to accept but personally I would have preferred to play a stronger team in Turkey and simply accept tomorrow will be difficult with or without our main XI. We were one of the stronger teams in the Europa League and really could have pushed for the title. I know its hard as proud Liverpool fans to accept a difficult fixture at home but our push for Top 4 is not going to be governed by our results against Chelsea or City.
I hope that todays current scores will give the team enough inspiration to get a result tomorrow, and the prospect of progressing i Europe shouod have been enough to help them through the tiredness of a Thursday/Sunday fixture, but no need for whinging about fixtures in the past. All we have is what's coming so let's hope the lads can turn it on for tomorrow and continue this push for Champions League positions.

I said it last month. We are shocking in Europe. 2 wins in 8 games against mostly mediocre opposition. We were never going to win it. 5 points off third is a gap we can close.

Good news for Aston Villa fans out there. The club have now scrapped the former Goal of the Month competition in favour of a new initiative called the "Month of the Goal" competition.

Sorry this ones late I've been away.

The captain of the Costa Concordia has been given 16 years in jail for leaving a sinking ship.

In which case, how come Harry Redknapp isn't behind bars ?

Does anyone know if Lucas is getting back to fitness yet, maybe pushing for the Burnley game? Same on Sak, don't know how bad his injury was. These 2 are looking more vital to the top 4 challenge as time ticks on

I heard that De Boer has signed a new contract. So where does that leave us? Are we looking at a new manager in the summer? Any update on the overall review? Really wish we can have a right team setup to take the club forward!

Any reply much appreciated.

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed as far as I am concerned.}

Why struggle and worry about 4th place ? Is there money in it if we get dumped out in the early stages?

Surely it is better to concentrate on getting the team right ?

Whether it is the right players, right coaching and right tactics.

Wasn't the 'Boot room' philosophy all about that ?

Believable1 Unbelievable7

28 Feb 2015 12:35:57
So let's not finish in 4th so long as we get the team right? What are we get the team 'right' for if it's not to compete in competitions???

Hi eds.
I wonder if you know if players like Sterling, Sturridge has a buyout clause?

{Ed002's Note - No they don't at this time.}

28 Feb 2015 10:17:36
Don't know if you'll agree (or rather, I'm sure you won't for the most part), but I think Can is awful in midfield. I've been saying this (to myself, mostly) from the first games of the season, the last Besiktas match confirmed this for me.

He tackled exceptionally, but as a distributing midfielder he had nothing to offer. He needs planty of time to control the ball, then look around and decide what to do. If he doesn't have that time, he just passes it back to Skrtel or Lovren. He attempted several forward passes and they were almost all ill timed, ill prepared. I'm really not impressed by his decision making. Allen was not much better (although I like him more), and the forward players wasted all the chances, but I still believe Can was awful.

Now I don't want to say I don't see how good he is as a part of a back three - his tackles and attitude are telling there, and playing in the back line means he rarely has to look behind himself. That means he has time to aim and pass and if he has space, he can rush forward. I think that's a point in BR's favour, that he found him a new position.

What I really want to say is this - his is the name that crops out the most often when there's talk about replacing Stevie, and I don't believe he can be relied upon as a long-term solution. Henderson, yeah, and I'm looking forward to see Rossiter play more, but not Emre Can. I honestly think Emre Can't.

PS. And by the way, hi! I'm new here, I like the site, so I decided to participate a little.

3-4-3 seems to be working, so I don't suggest to change that. But, if we had to then I'd like to see Can as deep CDM or even old fashioned sweeper

Agree3 Disagree0

28 Feb 2015 11:12:34
Team spends more time shaped up like a 5-2-3 than 3-4-3 hence why we've been struggling for goals

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Feb 2015 11:36:53
It seems more of a 3-4-1-2 than a straightforward 3-4-3

Agree2 Disagree3

28 Feb 2015 13:07:22
He's 20 years old and has been played most of the season as a defender! Give him some time in that position(mf) and i'm sure he'll prove his worth!! We won't see him improve in that position until next season.

Agree7 Disagree0

28 Feb 2015 13:37:48
You can't really use that match to judge him. The whole team was rubbish. Also the pitch was so bad that neither team could pass it around. Besiktas had to resort to long balls which we should have done as well by bringing Lambert on earlier

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Feb 2015 13:39:06
10 good games, 1 bad game. Make sure you slate him.

Agree8 Disagree1

28 Feb 2015 13:59:12
I had already disagreed with you post before this bit, but saying you like allen more than Can is the most bizarre opinion I have ever heard.

Agree5 Disagree2

28 Feb 2015 18:03:26
One of the best attributes at this level is composure and Can definitely has it. He's not overly blessed with pace but he can be a cool and composed influence when the shrapnel starts to fly. The Besiktas game is not a great game to judge him on. They were all over us for 75 mins and we had next to no outball up top. His versatility also marks him out as one of Brendan's better acquisitions.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2015 18:10:45
Amerigo - it was 10 good games as a defender and 1 bad game as central midfielder. Thanks for agreeing.

Agree0 Disagree2

01 Mar 2015 00:00:23
It doesn't matter. He had a poor match but its ridiculous to suggest he is a bad midfielder based on so little a time period.

Hi eds,
Great site thanks for all the insight
Just wondering now the UEFA have said Liverpool aren't in breach of FFP, what affect if any will that have on the clubs ability to spend in the summer?
Thanks

28 Feb 2015 07:56:21
Eds how would you rate ings, ? Wouldn't be too impressed by him, berahino to me is a lot better quality and more potential .
Thanks

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in Ings from the club and he appears keen on the move.}

28 Feb 2015 08:07:24
Thanks ed, so Sturridge ings origi will be the strike force next season,

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - what if he decides not to join us? Don't count your chickens, it is bad luck and I am superstitious!!}

28 Feb 2015 08:16:34
Sorry I just ment if he did sign, would you be happy with him ed1 ? Frank de Boer sign an extension yesterday looks like he'll stay there for awhile longer??
Thanjs

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - depends on if he can stay fit. Not sure he is really what we should be putting our money towards, yet another squad player, but there you go. Actually no, I wouldn't be happy as he is not going to be first choice, so it just seems to be the same mistakes we keep making all over again. We should only buy one or two players for the first team and they should be the ones who are going to be first choice players. We have spent years wasting money on squad players and it does nothing.}

28 Feb 2015 08:16:43
Gin and Thorley, that is a very inexperienced strike force imo. There are no leaders in that strike force who can take the attack to the opposition and keep pushing harder. Sturridge is injury prone and moody at times, Origi is a teenager going through a nightmare at Lille right now, while Ings will have completed just his first season in top flight football. The club really does need to aim higher to challenge for the title and Imgs imo is just not the answer. Good squad player, definitely not first team player at the moment.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - Ings has spent more time on the sidelines through injury than Sturridge as well.}

28 Feb 2015 08:46:09
Indian buzzer, I agree with you, I was just pointing out that it looks like that will be our strike force next season?? I would personally sell Sturridge if we received a bid and tried to replace him with benzema if possible? Origi is very raw, ings is only a squad player, agree with ed1 that we need to sign better players than we have and not more squad players??
Thanks

Agree1 Disagree3

28 Feb 2015 09:42:20
Gin and Thornley, i would also like to see us sign Benzema as he is a great team player and has won everything there is in club football and would be a good motivator for our younger players. But not at the expense of Sturridge who is the only pacy striker we have. Rather we should offer Sterling in a direct swap with Benzema as there are plenty of players in our club's ranks like Markovic, Ibe and Ojo that can replace Sterling but no one can do what Benzema does and that is selflessness in the attacking third.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2015 09:44:36
Gnt thank God you r not the manager sell sturridge no way he has a few dodgy games and posts like this start .And for berinho r ings just look at both players ability to finish ings wins, how both players handled speculation about possible moves to bigger clubs ings wins hands down, personally I would love ings but that's just my opinion.

Agree5 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - why would anyone want that complete bell Berahino? He is a waste of talent.}

28 Feb 2015 10:20:50
Ings would be a good signing ed but only if 2 out of mario borini and lambert were to leave like Origi could replace one ings replace another as they never really play

Although you wouldn't mind seen a top class player nip in either now but then that's to many changes its tough alright.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2015 10:40:54
Assuming mario and borini get moved on next season (with aspas, alberto, etc) just curious as who people would like us to sign as a striker? Agree we need 1 or 2 signings but struggling to think of an attainable striker who wouldn't be just second to sturridge? Heard great things of Pauli Dybala but not seen him myself and can we afford him? Kokorin is more attainable but bit of a gamble. would prefer youth but don't think we have any young CF who could be relied on if studge gets another injury and becomes our main striker for a few months

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Feb 2015 10:51:03
Benzema is a world class striker with no injury problems! 1 of the cleverest strikers in world football and unselfish, why would you not want to replace Sturridge with him ?? I like Sturridge but he hasn't and will never lace benzema's boots!>>>>> Tommy the red

Agree1 Disagree2

28 Feb 2015 11:14:21
Indian buzzer >> I would tie sterling down with a new contract personally! He can go right to the top, Sturridge injury record is very bad, 2 goals this season?? I'm not saying sell him off, but if we could get benzema and had to sell Sturridge to fund it I would 100% be delighted!! Big game tomorrow what you reckon?!

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Feb 2015 11:15:00
Gin and thornley, how about we keep Sturridge and sign Benzema as well? We need 2 quality strikers to compete on all fronts and these two would give us that threat up front. If it means selling Sterling, so be it.

Agree3 Disagree0

28 Feb 2015 11:29:32
Yea well that would be ideal but do not see us ever having Sturridge and benzema at the same time!

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Feb 2015 18:42:03
I think I read somewhere that benzema said liverpool were not big enough for him attitude means a lot for me and if I had the choice between sturridge r benzema I would pick Danny all day.
