Hi just thought I will post up that my dad informed me today on Turkish tv he saw John Barnes & Ian Rush or Rush will be joining him later on a tv show where they are looking for talent in Turkey & the winner (a youngster( gets a contract with Liverpool. Do any of the Eds or Macca know anything regarding this?

Cheers

Alsky {Ed001's Note - nothing sorry.}

I like the idea

billynwa

Speedy

It's not a contract they get to train at the academy for an amount of time, its more like a trial or scholarship whatever name u want to out on it

Our Shopping List This summer.

LBK/CBK Alvaro Dominguez
RBK/CBK/LBK/CM/RW Mauricio Isla
RW/STK Matias Suarez - Pace
DM Seydou Keita
STK Dieumerci Mbokani

I figure these player would slot in well with our team and can play in multi-positions. Im expected lfc to spalsh out on dm/c

GK 25 Pepe Reina
LBK 3 Jose Enrique
LBK/CBK Alvaro Dominguez
CBK 37 Martin Skrtel
RBK/CBK/LBK/CM/RW Mauricio Isla
LW 19 Stewart Downing
DM Seydou Keita
Mid Adams
RW/STK Matias Suarez - Pace
STK 7 Luis Suarez
STK 9 Dieumerci Mbokani

That is such a inter-changeable team. Lots of options for formations and shifting players in and out.

Have you forgotten to add Lucas to the team/squad, he is meant to be back for Pre-season (if I remember rightly)

Ska-oop

Does Lucas matter in the bigger picture. If where getting 5 new players. Its likely to be footballers from europe that can play multi positions. We can rule out the better players, highly paid people as they will go to man utd ect. (hazard) So average players in europe who can play multiple positions.

You left out our best player, daniel agger?

I see Toulouse are 4th in Ligue 1, anyone have any news on how their captain 'Sissoko' has been playing?

I have a feeling we may bid for him, De Jong, Lavezzi, Mertens and Pablo Armero.

Red Otter

I like him but I believe he is playing in the wrong position. I'd pop him out to the wing where he can use his pace and strength better to get in the box and cross. He has fantastic delivery.

Hi Eds, do you know which other cities in the US Liverpool will visit this summer other than Boston, and other teams we'll be playing other than AS Roma?

Thanks.

LFC-823 {Ed001's Note - I don't sorry, but then the plans will be announced as soon as they are finalised mate.}

28 Mar 2012 22:48:36
Hunturlaar, demba ba, zaha and the keyboard player from a-ha. Which of these do you think most likely to sign this summer?

28 Mar 2012 22:31:53
Ed what do you think about liverpool training facilities, youth development system and coaching staff. If LFC are going to concentrate on youth development. How should we move forward.

many believe Rafa Benitez Destroyed Youth Development at Liverpool. Some say before the eras of both Benitez and Houllier Liverpool were a better youth development football club.

Simply put in one sentence Rafa Benitez destroyed the culture of youth development at Liverpool Football Club. He didn't trust the young players here, he didn't give opportunities to the young players, but is Kenny declined to think the same way. With his reputation in tatters. Will Kenny want the finished product to allow instant success. {Ed001's Note - Rafa rebuilt the youth system, not destroyed it. He refused to play the youngsters at first, purely to get his point over and get the board to allow him to do the rebuild. It worked, he brought over Pep Segura and Rodolfo Borrell and the fruits will show over the next few years.}

So Rafa did have some use's Ed001 {Ed001's Note - very much so, I have repeatedly said he did good work with the youth system.}

Rafa should come back and become our Director of Youth Football ... hey Ed;-p

Speedy {Ed001's Note - er no, we already have one that Rafa appointed.}

I was joking ed :)

28 Mar 2012 22:24:09
I think Macca is referring to this 5 players:

Junior Hoilett
Matias Suarez
Gaston Ramirez
Roberto Soldado
Moussa Sissoko

I would be delighted if we would buy these 5 players

Reina
Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
Ramirez Gerrard Lucas Hoilett
Soldado L. Suarez

Doni, Coates, Kelly, Sissoko, Henderson, Downing, M. Suarez

These players in, will need to play multi-positions.

If we get all 5 in then i think this could be the 1 for next season off course!

I know its early days yet, but a wee rumour snippet on the BBC football rumours has united "supposedly" eyeing up a double swoop for Eden Hazard & Javi Martinez for £55m. Don't believe it myself, but it got me thinking of the old adage 'you have to speculate to accumulate'. Does anyone else think that throwing a few big money signings into the mix (regardless of us having CL football or not) would make a difference to our squad or would FSG even put their hands that far into their pockets to show us fans and the world that we mean business. I know people say we don't want to buy the league like other clubs I could mention, but investing in some serious talent may make other players sit up and take notice that our club will not rest on its laurels and deadly serious about bringing future glories back to Anfield and come knocking on our door for a chance to wear the red shirt. The 2 players I have named above are just examples of the type of player that I mean and I would love to see them here but it seems to me that we are looking and shopping in the bargain basement of the football world. Anyone else feel the same or maybe think that I am totally wrong, look forward to your replies.

Sounds good. but would hazard want to move to the biggest team in the world.

I think he would be happier moving to a cold, wet rainy part of england and wasting 3 or 4 years tying to get them back to the top. Thats right, he should transfer to Wimbledon FC

28 Mar 2012 22:30:51
My Team to play everton on 14 April
Reina
Johnson Coates Skrtel Enrique
Bellamy Spearing Gerrard Downing
Carroll Suarez
Subs: Doni , Sterling , Shelvey , Carragher , Henderson , Robinson

Would swap Coates for Agger and Spearing for Shelvey!

And dirk for Carrol

28 Mar 2012 21:55:28
I would rather 1 or 2 great players than 5 squad players we have the kids for that and a fantastic reserve team

We need a Roy Keane in midfield. Someone experience enough to allow kids in to the team. Same at CBK.

28 Mar 2012 21:55:09
y do liverpool always go for ifs and buts players y dont we buy strikers an midfielders that ARE goina score goals

I beg your pardon?

What do you think the outcome of sundays game will be?

I want to say a toon win but with the injury to collocinni we will have perch and williamson playing at CB, not the best combination although they do work hard.

I think it might be a classic of you score, we score and see what happens.

As you will want to catch us up in the league i think you will attack which might play into our hands with cisse, ba and ben arfa hitting you on the break.

It will be a good game regardless of the scoreline.

ToonFan

Newcastle win.

The result for us will depend on the fitness of johnson, kelly, agger and bellamy, if they're fit we can 'compete' with anyone on our day. if they're not we'll rely on an under achieving, lacking in confidence squad. for all our highs and lows this season i am one of a few fans that thinks we'll see a different team next season with our own 'demba ba', a fully fit lucas back and a playmaker on the right arriving. 1 we've got, 2 we'll find eventually. and if not, we need to buy your scouting network toonfan! good luck for sunday.
s.p

Think the worst then anything else is a bonus!

I was told that Alan been told to leave 5 of his best player out of the team, just to help kenny win a game.

isn't that nice of newcastle

I don't know about the result but I think we'll concede.
Rigsby.

I am a Liverpoil fan but I will concede that Newcastle has a major advantage: they have goalscorers and we do not. NC 3 Liv 1

Cheers Macca for the insight, i hope it is 5 players. I would like to see these 5 players after the summer.
De jong from fc twente
Ramirez from bologna
Clyne from crystal palace
Johnson from man city
Bojan krkic from roma [only because he is unhappy there, we may be able to get him if barcelona didn't want him back]. Aren't roma owned by fenway sports group as well or is it an afilliated organisation?

Si

My 5 is:
Jackson Martinez
M.Suarez
Mertens
Ramirez
Belhanda

Red ,Owl

I hope this turns out to be the case as I feel we need 5,
2 strikers, a right winger, a centre mid and a centre back
Just my opinion

Chris in Tamworth

I really hope we are aiming higher than luuk de jong.....

I think 5 is spot on. We're going to lose Aquilani, Cole, Maxi(?), Poulsen, Aurelio and some others...

At 'least' five please Mr Henry!

Lee YNWA

I agree
Chris in lichfield

Question for Chris. Do you work or just text radio stations and websites all day?
Chris in Lichfield near tamworth

Chris in Lichfield, I do work (self employed) but I feel it a requirement, nay, a duty to share my knowledge and insight with as many as is possible.
I don't get my texts read out as often as I used to on Talksport mainly because it seems to have dumbed down quite a lot recently and they don't really like views which go against their own. I thinks that's why they have so many (SP dont read any further!) red top journos on there, it's because they all repeat the same tired old mantras about players and managers and they can spend all day (in the pub as well as the studio) slapping each other on the back and convincing themselves they are all knowing.
How about yourself mate do you work? Don't you ever send a text in?

Chris in Tamworth

My 5 would be:
ST-Jackson Martines
ST- Luuk De Jong
AM/LW/RW/SS-Gaston Ramirez
RW/LW- A.Johnson or Hoillet
RB-Nathan Clyne

would be nice to see squad players also like Matt Phillips

Hi eds, quick question, have we shown an interest in Valbuena? (Marseille)

I might be pulling out random names, but we're looking for a right sided midfielder and he's a quality player. Thanks {Ed005's Note - In the past I think there was but not now}

We looked at him in Rafa's last year but I don't think we ever went further than that.

BthekingB {Ed002's Note - Valbuena was for sale over the summer last year and there was interest from several clubs, with Arsenal showing some interest the previous year - due to a enquiry via Jose Anigo that was pushed back at the time. There was also speculation in France that Arsenal would make an approach to Marseille to take Valbuena as a replacement for Nasri but that never happened. Right now the player is not looking to move and Marseille are not looking to sell unless a significant offer were made to tempt them. There is no interest from Liverpool.}

Danish sources tells we are after Lucas Andersen. Great midfielder, only 17. But personally I think he will move to Ajax, because his friend Viktor Fisher are there. What do

28 Mar 2012 19:52:54
New gk
Johnson skyrtl agger Enrique
New rw Lucas Gerrard downing
Suarez huntelaar

Subs
Doni
Kelly Coates carra Robinson
Bellamy Adam Henderson sterling

That would do for me.. but i would like to keep pepe and get a quality back up keeper to keep him on his toes.

Phooey

I really think Pepe will be gone next season!

Pepe thinks he is great but he is not .

eds ino this is gonna sound dumb probobly but who is macca and were do the eds and macca get there info?

thanks, keep up the great work {Ed005's Note - Macca is someone who posts here occassionaly giving information - where he gets it I don't know however whether you choose to believe or not believe it is personal choice.}

He is very precise and tends to be correct more often than not

8 games left this season plus the FA Cup Kenny will not be sacked (and in my opinion nor should he be) so why not just support the team for the remaining fixtures and do your moaning during the summer. Who knows maybe even make a bit of noise at Anfield again! Yes results have been terrible but you pay all that money you might as well sing its been embarrassingly quiet for a while now.
One thing to come out of the Wigan game was Shelvey's performance, for me he should start ahead of Hendo and Adam for the rest of the season, thats not to say we should get rid of them just their confidence is so low atm (not helped by some 'fans') they would do more harm than good on the pitch. Where as Shelvey just went for it and took his chance. To be fair so did Sterling but is he ready for the Prem every week now?

Let's all put a thinking cap on and discuss did carling cup win derailed our league after that.
Just think about it over the top celebrations by players plus statements made by kenny since then justifying league position and by steve.g and others.
Do you think we took our eye off the ball and lost sight of target..I mean cammoli and owners were still staying we want fourth but team just lost focus..what you think ed?
Just honest discussion no kenny bashing.

Red indian

I think when we lost Agger , the defence seemed a bit shaky , and we miss him big time , the way he comes out with the ball , maybe 15/20 yards , and then his pass is not so long , and puts pressure on our opponents , this seems the biggest factor for me .
redforever

We have faded since the carling cup success but it was around that time that Agger got injured and that has really effected the form of the team. The whole season we have struggled in front of goal but were good enough defensively that we weren't beaten often. Now we have lost the defensive bedrock that Skrtle and Agger had formed all season. All I know is that Agger is badly missed

88

Doesnt everyone generally fade after the carling cup final? arsenal exploded, birmingham got relegated, spurs went downhill a few years ago?

People jump on Charlie's back, when they could pick numerous players who haven't performed this season.  Charlie, like most pros has his weakness', but he also has alot of strengths too!  With a a bit of luck and hard work, we'll see the real Charlie Adam next season i think.  Just get behind the players ffs..

I had a convo with Ed001 re the fans recently, although we can't change the mood around Anfield through will power alone, for the life of me - Something needs to be done in my opinion.  Every home game there is so much tension it's frightening!

Lee YNWA

There is tension because you have to many championship players charlie adams being one of them. you are not a good team and have two/three players who could play in premiere league. Oh yea and your manager sucks. CL FOOTBALL IS A THING OF THE PAST

ynwa
derbyshire dave

I agree Lee.
Also the atmosphere when we play the so called "lesser teams" needs to be sorted out.

I wasnt alive in the 60s, but have seen videos and the crowd was renowned for being one of the best, if not the best in the world who ever we was playing.

My point is, modern day football is full of ooh's and arr's and maybe that needs to change,

We should show up every game and not just when we play the big teams.

Maybe if we the supporters show up, maybe the players would too.

Just a thought...

My 'thought provoking' response was aimed at derbyshire Dave - but works well with your reply, TIZER RED.

We should bring the slow hand clap back when the team are not trying.

LFC could write a book on the players they have missed out on through poor decision making and hesitating in the transfer market, most of the players could have been bought for under 15m, So Commolli is brought in with FSG's idea of recruiting young talent ringing in his ears to oversee signings.
we then pay way over the odds for english dross and the calibre of player we are currently being linked with has dropped considerably, making me think the owners are unwilling to part with another 120m.
Am i missing something here or should i just look forward to us scrapping around at the lower end of the transfer market with dillusional supporters thinking we will be top 4 again soon....

Dave

All the near misses and sometimes for penuts(comparitively)over asking price. We bulk at idea and rival nips in,pays 1-3 mill more and secures a Top talent.

When is Agger due back?

Sunday

Close..Hopefully Newcastle away.

If not give Seb a go, at the very least he would head the ball back when they aim for Ba & Cisse long - Carra can't. #Legend

Ed this i a hyperthetical question but if Liverpool Forked out £45-50mill on Cavani do you think him and suarez could light up the prem with Goals? {Ed001's Note - not really, I am not a big fan of his, I think he is very over rated.}

Alot of players look Great in Italian league
Sanchez looked alot better and faster in Serie a than he does for Barcelona in la liga!
Lyndon

Could never afford him, so stop dreaming.
We will have to buy smartly and wisely.

I think Eduardo Vargas would work well with Suarez.

I'm really not sure what I should think about the manager situation.
Some say Kenny should get sacked, some say keep him.
Personally I'm very pleased with the way he has the team playing.
But what I fear is the transfer window, the new signings.
I'm not sure if I would trust him with more money to spend this summer.
Because much as I'd like to but his signings have been all but successes.
So I'm not pretty sure if the owners should keep kenny and trust him with more money or bring in a new manager who has a good record with successful signings.
Eds what's your personal opinion?
1) How do you rate Dalglish's new signings so far?
2) Are you pleased what's going on on the pitch this season?
3) Would you trust Dalglish with more money this summer?
4) Should he still be manager next season or do you think the owners should bring in someone new?

Sorry for the long post, but please answer
Cheers
{Ed001's Note - 1) it is a mixed bag, some haven't performed, while others have been better than I expected.
2) the style of football has been mostly good, just not the results, so again it is a mixed bag.
3) yes, while not all the signings have played as well as hoped, they are certainly better than the dross they have replaced. That is about all you can ask a manager to do, is buy better players than the ones already there.
4) I think he should be given at least one more season, it is far too early to judge a manager, it takes time to rebuild.}

Not sure that Charlie adam is an improvement on Meireles. Raul may have pulled out of challenges but I expect a yellow or red card everytime charlie doesnt pull out. His tackling is abysmal.

Nevada

I reckon that Ed001 has got it more or less right , I think that Adam biggest problem has been his fitness levels , there could be a really big improvement , plus the other new signings will def improve , also KK will buy , to cover our weak spots , like right wing , striker , and maybe right back if Glen moves on , I can see a much better Liverpool next season .

Does anyone know if we are in the east side of the stadium or the west for the semi I have heard fa looking to put our semi 12.15 pm saturday

28 Mar 2012 17:26:59
Although he has improved of late i still think that Andy Carroll is being asked to do to much outside the box. He has a good touch and hold up play but i feel when he does this 40 yards from goal he is really slow to then get on the end of any cross or pass into the box. Would like to see him stay on the two central defenders and let the team deal with the build up play and he can be in the box to finish it off

I'd agree on all except the line, he has a good touch. Better than mine, but for a flight footballer, his touch is very average.

28 Mar 2012 17:19:03
Here's the issue!

Dalglish had roughly around £100 million to spend on finding and rebuilding a new squad for success.

Now instead of going around the world to find quality players who are actually worthy of wearing the Liverpool shirt, Dalglish decided to spend the money on average English players from teams like Newcastle, Sunderland, Blackpool and Aston Villa.

Please explain to me how we can expect success when we've spent around £100 million on players who have previously never played at the quality and the standard Liverpool FC are at!

I understand we are doing well in the cups but when a team has so much money to spend, you cannot afford to waste the money of players from teams like Newcastle, Sunderland, Blackpool, Aston Villa etc.

Apart from that, let's stick behind the team and get behind the manager!

YNWA

Agreed with you until the last line

I think you'll find that one of Kenny's criteria was that the players were PL based and so didn't need to get up to speed! Doesn't always work either way.

Keith

You aren't worthy of wearing the Liverpool shirt if you are going to leave our club. Most foreigners leave us for money.

BthekingB

Sorry can I take my agree back, I put it before I read the last line

28 Mar 2012 17:17:08
I just hope that Adam isnt out too long kenny said they maybe a chance he will be back before the end of the season lets hope so as i think in years to come will be a really excellent player for liverpool especially when Lucas is back.

Get well soon Charlie.

Mighty reds

Oh...it wasn't a joke, he should be banned from Melwood

GuvTOB

I do think he misses the security that Lucas gave him and so he was more able to relax and do what comes easier to him! Saying that, he should be doing better than he has of late.

Keith

Don't like anyone to be injured but Charlie has been dire for 2 months now. I won't miss him one bit.

Papa G

Get fit soon so we can sell him

28 Mar 2012 17:08:49
Hi eds
Do you know if liverpool have already a plan in place for how much they will spend in the summer or does it depend on what's going on in the market?

Cheers {Ed001's Note - it depends on what goes on, there are plans there, but they are always subject to change.}

Bad buys, bad tactics.Players who cant handle club, not good enough,or dont wana be here. All true.Time for players to say we WILL WIN at Newcastle, regardless of anything.Time for them to say-We WILL STAND up and get A GOOD Result EVERY remaining game.TIME FOR KK to STOP with excuses-TAKE NO S ITE.AND THAT WILL restore our faith. And GET EVERYONE BEHIND LFC AGAIN.I DONT think were good enough.AND players do need to go.But with 100% commitment every game from now on in,we MAY just click. That MAY ensure longer careers at LFC for some we doubt.NOW is the time.WONT forget whats gone before.BUT you can go hellve long way to redeem yourselves somewhat. One things for sure-youll be out,and downhill and LFC no chance in Cup with current mood.Get your fookin heads up!KK if there not doing it-DONT wait-3 subs at once i9f needs be-Send a message-wont be tolerated by LFC.Or you may well pay.Oneve the biggest things ive noticed is no one in support of Suarez, and no shape in midfield.LETS SEE MEN IN THE BOX.AND EVERYONE knowing their role within a TEAM SHAPE!IF WE all see the effort, and your ruthlessness Kenny. Then your entitled to our backing.TOO many dont sing,in KOP aswell as elsewhere.Forget worrying what others think-GET BEHIND the Lads!BUT KENNY AND CO-INSPIRE US EH? Ild like to see Bellers and Suarez up top.Kuyt and Downind wide in as many games as Bellers can manage, from now in!If doesnt work-Kuyt and Suarez,Bellamy leftwing,Downing or Kelly Rightwing.ATTACK REDs,ffs. And STOP going defensive when leading! We bring trouble on,cos midfield balance is wrong.Spearing or Shelvey with Stevie.IF Shelvey,Stevie sits.Lets see Maxi and Sterling on bench. And TALK Reds-NO LEADERS.

Blah blah blah! We've heard it all before. Give it a rest, will ya.

The amount we create we should be blitzing every team we play...Look at the Arsenal game (one amongst many games) we kicked @ss in attack we dominated that game but couldnt finish to save our life, If we can sort that out we'd be ok...Hope the reds can fix the problems and get some pacey skillfull players who dont need a ton of chances to score a goal

MJ

Time for some people to go

Fans on here make me sick..get behind KK..why cos he is taking the club forward as a managerial mastermind..you didnt get behind hodgson with worse results..why because he never wore a red shirt...pathetic {Ed001's Note - I think it was more because Hodgson didn't understand the club and tried to tell us that scraping a draw with Everton would have been a great result.}

And also that Dalglish has never insulted the anfield crowd...unlike poor old woy

Nevada

As soon as Hodgson walked through the door at Anfield he knew he was on borrowed time! with the shadow of Kenny over him! then the change of owner's he wanted out after the derby when he came out with those baffling comment's! He knew he was getting himself a big payday when he agreed to manage us!

In reply to Blah Blah blah,if weve heard it all before-why doesnt anything change?

How much would Dzeko cost?Aint great, but better than Carrol, and in that inbetween bracket of-good,not great

I rate dzeko, far better than carroll with more in his locker,

Dzeko is a world class player. Watch him rip the bundesliga apart. Its s***y who have made him an average player. If he moves to a club who dont rotate their strikers every now n then, he wud be scoring goals for fun.

ed what was the result of sam magris trial? and whats happened to alex o'hanlon, the irish lad we signed not long ago. is he with the academy now? {Ed001's Note - I believe we failed to agree a fee for Magri anyway, not sure if he just didn't impress enough so we used that as an excuse or not though. O'Hanlon should be with the academy, I have not heard any different, though I haven't been keeping a close eye on the youth side of things this season.}

Despite his goal to game time ratio - I got slammed earlier for asking about Nicklas Bendtner (maybe fair enough).

But what other options are out there?
What proven Prem strikers could possibly fit into the transfer policy (young, cheap, willing to move and preferably British!)?

Danny Graham (26) 10 goals
Steven Fletcher (25) 10 Goals
Gabriel Agbonlahor (25) 5 Goals

You have to be realistic!

What about Dzeko?

How about none of them

Liverpool fans should get off Kenny Dalglish's back you all have so much in commen with him like

Suarez is world class 27th in the goal table with 7 goals and he gets called world class PMSL

Didnt see anything wrong with the handball who jumps with there hand across there chest no one thats who unless you are trying to cheat everyone who saw it on TV inc the commentators said it was Handball apart from KK and LFC fans

And you all think Downing is worth 20m

So goal ratio determins a footballers quality? Not one TV pundit said it was handball! And nobody said that Downing was worth 20 million!

So you make up rubbish and then write pmsl next to it? Grow up!

PS, why not have the guts to tell us who you support.

MR EM

Goal ratio does go a long way to determining your quality as a striker

Look at his chances created and then come talking trash, how bout you look at your own transfers( the ones u won't buy because your in debt)

Based on my extensive research and football knowledge I have come to the conclusion that we need a goalscorer and a right winger.

Regards,

Mr Sarcasm

P.S In other words stop saying the same thing constantly we all know what we need but at least wait until the transfer window opens to start saying we need this and we need that, until that happens you're just wasting your breath and it makes it a task to go through the same post over and over again to find something different and interesting on here.

Whilst we're at it can we stop the Henderson and Carroll slating?
Also the "bring Rafa back" brigade are getting ever so slightly tedious.
Let's just be thankfulk we aren't in the same position as teams like Portsmouth and Glasgow Rangers eh?!

Why are all Liverpool fans saying you need a goal scorer you have luis suarez he is the best player in the world and 100% world class so Liverpool fans keep telling me PMSL how many goals has he got ???

Even Messi would strugle to score in your team you dont have the players in midfield to creat chances you need playmakers to get the goals

Liverpool can do a lot beteer than luis suarez but even he would have more than a few goals if he had better service

We have created a lot of chances we just have't finished them off. Proves how much you know about football. Stop spreading crap when you haven't even seen us play.

" The ..... maybe just an aside?"

I was skipping through some European media this morning and looking at some names that always bring a smile to my face - Milan Baros, Jan Kromkamp and Glen Hysen. There's not much in this save for my great failing as a sports enthusiast - my love of the underdog.

I have also written about motor-racing in the past and one of my most controversial points was when I described Lewis Hamilton, Mark Webber, the bright and cheery Jenson Button, plus Sebastian Vettel as 'media bunnies.' My assertion was that you just needed to stroke them and get a soundbite. Cue the motor-racing 'real fans' who banged on about my savaging of their heroes. What really shocked them into action was when I said I really was more interested in the backmarkers and midfield runners.

In some ways it's the same with football. LFC is my main love and has been for all my realised life, but when it comes to the players, rather than have Rush, Barnes or KK as my first lead heroes, I was always more interested in people like Glen Hysen, Baros, Titi Camara, players that were hardly ever interviewed in the early days of the "Greed is Good" League. Not world class but interesting for their foibles, styles or shortcomings.

When I lived in Prague I would visit Sparta and Viktoria Zizkov and watch obscure players with names like Churchill (he was black and a rare sight in the 90s in the Czech Republic) and then follow them in the media. You knew those players would never be big stars, but there was a certain excitement about this sort of interest.

Glen Hysen was such a captivating character - Swedish, elegant and stylish on and off the field. Baros - an intiguing Roma background and a lone character; Kronkamp - languid, cool and quintessentially Dutch. These are the characteristics I enjoy as much as admiring any skills. Okay, it's unusual, but then it also applies to teams.

My first run through the results is to find out how Borussia Dortmund, Lille, IFK Goteborg, Charlton and Colchester have done. Lived there, been there, met someone there, like there, want to be there. A host of reasons for looking for those teams and I'm sure you have your own lists of such searches. My current searches also include Ryan Babel and how Dallas is doing in the MLS.

Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Wayne Rooney and Beckham are always being interviewed. Fair enough, but I'm more interested in what Lucas Leiva, Sebastian Coates, Charles Pic and Jean-Eric Vergne have to say. When Henchoz played or Kronkamp pushed on down the right wing I was always keen to see them do well. Never the burning stars, but that is what makes sport so fascinating and rewarding. It is never, never, all about simply winning. It's also so much to do with the adoption of heroes and teams, managers and styles. Sport is like music - it reminds you of where you were or what you were doing. "Barbie Girl" - in Volendam in 2001, Jethro Tull's "Farm on the Freeway" in New England on a football tour in 1999 and Focus' "House of the King" in Frolunda in 1993. Memories in all things are so pure to the person.

There are hosts of people I have missed out in mentioning - players such as Geoff Strong, Bjornebye, the imperious Steffen Effenberg and the utterly fascinating and slightly mysterious (in the context of the 70s) Johan Neeskens and Johnny Rep. What memories of these players!

If you keep interviewing Rooney, Gerrard, Beckham and Hamilton, you will never know there are fascinating characters out there waiting to be discovered - Drenthe, Coates, Nakazawa and Pic. Keep giving your kids McDonalds and they'll never know there's beef stroganoff and rice if they fancy it. None of the players I've mentioned are in the highest echelons of the game; none will be seen as utterly beguiling, incredibly talented and mesmerising, fascinating and ever so slightly mysterious. Few will ever reach the iconic aloofness of Johan Cruyff. What they are to me are avenues of exploration that requires a little less acceptance of hype and a little more personal imagination. If you have a similar group of players/clubs you check out/follow/have followed, then don't be afraid to admit it. Life is a richer tapestry when you put your glasses on ....

Steve Parker

Fascinating and so steve parker! great ideas and soem of those players i love. what do u mean by imperious for effenberg? i know what u mean about rep tho. he was always some sort of mysterious player to me as well. looks like you're a progressive rock fan as well!!!

A few interesting facts, Lionel Messi had 17 league and 6 CL appearences during his first season at the age of 18.
Maradona started his first team football one week before his 16th birthday, Pele was topscorer of his league when 16. Just saying it....

HK

Just saying.... They also didn't play for one of the best clubs in the world, while playing in the top league in the world at 16... UHH DER

They weren't playing in the over physical Premier League though and that makes a difference!

Keith

Maradonna - started at Argentinos Juniors... Yes, bet it was hard to get into that team.

Pele - Played for Santos, the best team in a terrible league, must of had chances coming from everywhere.

Messi - Started at Barcelona at 12. In a world class team, scored his first league goal at 17 years old. Finished that season with 8 goals. In his second season he got 17.

When he was 20 he got 38 goals in all competitions while competing for a spot that Ronaldhino was playing.

2011/2012 he has 55 goals in 46 games. at the age of 24.

Lets not forget his 5 goals againg BL in the Champs League, bringing him up to 12 goals so far in the competition.

I would like to see Maradonna and Pele do that against the top teams in the world.

Messi did..

We need someone that can score.... That is it!
We have played Man Utd, Citeh, chelski, arsenal spurs and the toon off the pitch when we have played them AND beaten the blue s**te twice
We have played amazing football but everyone overlooks that because we drew or lost
Getting beat 1-0 and having say 22 attempts? This sounds familiar
we have the highest amount of attempts at goal the highest on target the highest number of corners..... And 2nd best goals against
Kenny has done a good job in my opinion. I am getting stressed out over how our results are going but luck is obviously against us
I am also a firm believer that it's not down to the manager, he sends the team out! THEY must do the job!
Chelski's player let themselves down, villa boas did nothing wrong

Although we are looking to build for the future, it doesn't mean that we shouldn't sign anyone older and with experience. Somebody like keita would be perfect considering our midfield weakness and he has experience at the highest level. He should also be quite easy to sign because he wont cost more than 8 million and he is looking for regular football

Wouldnt pay that but totally agree. Quality player. Look at the impact Gary Mac had and he was about 80

I said the same thing about keita,on europian nights wen some of the kids are getting there chance.put hi in he would keep them organsised and bring them on.every good team needs this kind of player.

Now here's a scenario for you to mull over.

We have lost 5 out of our last 6 league games.

If we lose against Newcastle, which I think we will, and we lose in the semi at Wembley, which will completely end our season, which I think we will, do you think Kenny will then walk.

Right now, he (and all of us) can grasp on to the possibility of another cup, but if this doesn't happen then it has been a really bad season, with the worst run of league losses for decades.

As much as I like KK, I think with the feeling he has for the club, them maybe he will actually realize he is not up to the job if the above happens.

Since the CC cup win, and I think particularly after the Arsenal game the players realised there was no way to make the CL places, and this has impacted so negatively on the team.

The problem is they will now be able to pick up enough in my opinion against both Newcastle or Everton who both definately have huge momentum going into their next games.

As an even worst scenario, Everton can knock us out of the FA Cup, and then finish higher than us in the league.

This is a real danger now, because we have lost all momentum.

KBL

Why claim to be a supporter of a club when you give them no support? "I think we'll lose against Newcastle and Everton"... I just don't get it. We're in terrible form, but every single game Liverpool play, I expect them to win. It's a crushing disappointment when they don't win, but as soon as the next game rolls around, I expect them to win again. Ultimately, league position matters very little now for the rest of the season, save for a couple of extra £ for a higher position. We're playing for a cup double, something that happens very rarely in England, why would you not be happy that it's a possibility for us this season?

Nobody knows if another manager could have done a better job than KK this season, and no-one at the moment knows if he'll be leading us next season, so why not just enjoy the ride and see what happens? As a Kilmarnock and Liverpool fan, if i see my 2 teams lift 3 cups between them this season, i'll be very, very chuffed.

Liverpool need a goalscorer.....if you had a guy banging in 20ish a season you would have turned a lot of those home draws into wins.

We have done it with Ba and now Cisse, the team is good but we just take our chances asthey can both finish. We haven't scored more than 3 in a game so we don't create anymore than you lot we just put them away.

Good luck against everton too...keep 6th europa league for us.

I'd like to recount a conversation I had once...

I was working and chatting to my then boss, who is a Spurs fan.

Me: This season is the one. It's our time, everything is falling into place like it should. This season that trophy (premier league) is coming to Anfield were it belongs.

Boss: You liverpool fans say this every year. Your team isnt bad but you wont be winning the premiership.

Me: We have more of a chance of winning it than you.
Boss: Maybe but no Spurs fans are delusional enough to believe that we will. How long have you been saying that? I dont even mean all liverpool fans I mean just you.
Me: I dont know. This year is different though, everybody seems up for it, we have a good team and a good manager.

Boss:

.........

That conversation was in 2001. Does it sound familiar?

Bang on,and we keep hearing terms patience, knee jerk-hardly!More rebuilding then Redrow

In my opinion, we lack the ruthlessness that we used to have.

Chelsea sack managers as soon as they sense they are not doing the job. At United, Fergie gets rid of players as soon as they challenge him or let their standards slip - it doesn't matter how big a name. At Man City, they will fire Mancini should they not win the league - just watch. That's how winning clubs operate.

At LFC, we live on sentiment, and memories of the glory days. Hence the calls for Kenny a year and a half ago, and the calls for Rafa now.

And we rationalize clinging to things by calling it "patience". So we hold on to players like Carragher years past their prime. We even have fans commenting on here that we should judge Carroll once he has been here ten years, and if you divide his transfer fee by ten, you get only 3.5m a year - so he is not expensive. I kid you not!

Liverpool have never been ruthless. I'm pretty sure that Houllier was the first manager sacked. We have a big history of backing managers.

Nevada

On the upside to the negatives about your club lfc against spurs in the trophy cabinet department, it must be at least 8 to 1 in that period of time since 2001. ynwa

If you think Liverpool "have never been ruthless" then you need to consider how Shankly was treated by the club after he resigned, but then "changed" his mind, so to speak.

It's not about not backing the manager. It's about whether you make decisions based on what is good for the club. In recent decades, we have increasingly made decisions based on sentiment, both with respect to managers, and players.

If our club has a history of backing managers, its high time that changes. We r still living in the 1980's. No club will ever succeed if they dont change their policies with time.

The Problems for the Future of Liverpool

I've been thinking for the last couple of days about the future of our club. Regardless of what anybody thinks our future does depend on european football. Champions league preferrably. Why?

Play in europe attracts good european players. Playing out of europe and you're going to have to buy players who are

A/ Out of favour or washed up looking for another chance - this is a risk.

or

B/ Young and see Liverpool as a stepping stone to a club which does play in europe.

I read Gerrards Biography (again) last week and during one of the chapters he talks about when we were in the UEFA cup. He didnt like being in that competition, and states a few times that if Liverpool couldnt compete in the champions league he would consider moving to a team that could. If our club captain and best player could think this what makes you think other players wouldnt?

To attract world class names you have to be a world class name...not have been a world class name.

Our history is rich and filled with moments that everyone in football remembers and treasures (not even just us) but to keep relying on that past is folly. People will point to Chelsea and City and say they have no history... a jibe I have seen many times on here. However, they are creating their history as we speak...we seem to just live on ours too often. Their lack of history forces them to pay big wages for players... wages which every other big team pays except us. Are we so arrogant as to think that every great player should play for us for less money than they would earn elsewhere?

Even Wenger is admitting that they will have to break their wage structure to keep the one world class player they still have after seeing all of his others leave.

I'm not advocating spending more than we have, that would be stupid. I'm saying that if you pay 60k a week for a player, you will get someone who is worth 60k a week. When our revenue matches that of other big clubs (if it ever does) then there will come a point when we will need to pay those wages to get those players. People will criticise the players that flocked to chelsea and city and say they went for the money... well they have won trophies and in city's case still have a good chance of winning the one trophy steven gerrard has never managed. In chelseas case they have already won it.

I cant remember who said it but the phrase 'it takes money to make money' is absolutely true. Tell me now if it would have been worth that 200k a week to sign aguero? With his goals there is a good chance it could have been us lifting that premiership trophy this year.

That brings us back to my original point... if we dont play in champions league, champions league quality players will not be available to us...and so we will never improve the quality of our team. Don't believe me? Ask Everton (a team with a rich history just like us) if being out of european football hurt their chances.

Thanks for reading. Comments always welcome and appreciated.

Nevada

You hit the nail on the Head Mate 100%

Muggitzo

That is a really good point you make about the wages issue and wanting to play for the club.

I couldn't care less whether they want to play for Liverpool. All I care about is that they want to win and be successful. They can fall in love with the club (as many do) once they are here.

There is a reason why Aguero wants £200k per week. Because, in today's world of silly money being earnt by footballers, he is worth it. Had we signed him, we would have recouped all that money and then some in CL revenue. Speculate to accumulate, as they say.

Ash

Good point...we should have bought aguero..and mata..and that would have cost us a bit..but would have been 2 or 3 in table..for sure...for henderson and carroll.....we missed it..and we are paying the price for it...... {Ed002's Note - It is not as simple as that I am afraid. Liverpool cannot simply buy any player they want.}

Sorry Nevada, nice try but the content, rationale and quality of your is nothing like Steve Parker's.

Just in case anybody misread. I was not suggesting that Liverpool buy any player at any price. Just that we think more about whether or not something is worth the value its being presented at. Personally had the funds been available for Aguero then he would have presented much better value for money on 200k a week for the goals he has scored than for Carroll's 60k a week and the goals he hasnt. I'm not even a Carroll hater, I have been positive about him most of the season, its just easy to conclude that Aguero was better value.

Nevada

In response to ASH:

I dont care if they say they love the club before we sign them because we have been lied to by sooooo many players before they sign that I dont believe any of them now.

Nevada

I guess you mean spend money and wages on people we haven't got yet... Gambling to finish top 4? A bit like Leeds a few years back, I think we should do it, I mean it worked out well for them!

Some people aye!
G BOX

Guffaw! arsenal have only one good player,go back to sleep ffs

Perhaps its just me GBOX but paying 35m for a striker with half a seasons experience in a top league and a history of injury and personal problems is more of a gamble than paying 35m for a current argentina international with a good goalscoring record and champs league experience.

Nevada

Too true Nevada. I have a feeling Andy Carroll will go down as one of the worst tranfer dealings in the history of the sport. Had we not learned our lesson with Aquilani with regards to buying injured players?

Ash

I take your point Nevada and Ash, but if we factor in wages and transfer fee, ignoring all the other costs, playing style etc and make a comparison of total cost over say a 5yr contract? Assuming no rise in wages over that time.

For the sake of argument lets say the transfer fees for Aguero and Carroll were both 35m

And Aguero has a 200k contract and Carroll a 50k contract (which is think is in the right ball park at least)

So total cost for Aguero of 5 yrs is ((200E+3 x 52) x 5) +35E+6 = 87M

And Carroll ((50E+3 x 52) x 5) +35E+6 = 48M

So over the duration of the contracts Aguero costs 39 million more than Carroll. Which is another Aguero if you like or two good players on slightly lower wages? On top of that our wage structure wouldn't be able to support those sort of wages and also factor in the fact that top earners like SG would want parity it then becomes even more costly and the speculate to accumulate argument is slowly diminishing. Sadly there is no quick fix unless you have owners with deep pockets and FSG are not here to facilitate mass expenditure on players and contracts, they are businessmen who ultimately want the club to make a profit which can only be achieved through slow sustained organic growth. I suspect that success may take time and money will be invested wisely on players who aren't on huge contracts and don't cost the earth but could provide healthy profit margins if sold in the future, its simple good business really but it wont appease the fans who want marquee signings on massive wages to show a sign of intent every transfer window, but then I do wonder what would please these people that is realistically achievable?

Andy C

I remember 20 plus years ago a manc side in a very simular position to LFC there manager was on the brink of being sacked he had spent money on players that did not improve them to the point of knocking LFC off their perch he was was given a vote of confidence from a share holder who said have you seen the kids he has got comming through in the reserves the manc manager then had to bring five or six of these kids in to the first team and ten years of winning the prem , the champions league , fa cups , league cups, and world club champions so why are we paying out millions on medioca players who cant knock that manc side off there perch whats wrong with our academies why arent the sharewholders of LFC asking the questions about the young men in our reserves other wise lets get rid of the academy and waste the money from that buying more medioca players and be still looking up the prem league at a certain manc side and now there city rivals come on you people at Liverpool FC ask the question to our manager and lets see if history repeats its self only in favour of LFC {Ed001's Note - it was not kids that brought success to United, that team had Pallister, Irwin, Schmeichel, Cantona, Bruce, Hughes, Kanchelskis and Ince as the core of the team.}

Andy C :

and if that extra 37 million earned us a premier league title and 25 goals a year would that not be better value than Carrolls single digits and no improvement to our title challenge.

I'm not criticisng Carroll, I like him and have posted regurlarly about his merits. I was only pointing out that at present based on form and contribution to team Aguero was better value for the money because he has helped (in large part) City to challenge for the title.

Nevada

Nevada:

I cant argue he would improve the team, but how much money have city spent over the past few seasons, they are closer to winning the title yes, but by no means a guarantee and sadly i rather suspect utd are looking strong just at the right time (again). So what happens if you sign someone like that and still dont win anything? Is it justified then? Im playing devils advocate, but you get my point that you can spend endless sums of money and if you dont recoup it by winning things you could end up like leeds, which would be devastating. About finding a balance i think

Watch The King and Liverpool tear up the premier league nxt season and take us into top 3... Just watch ...
We should get a striker and maybe a right winger and we will destroy teams let kenny give the players a slap and make sure they know that the smaller teams matter just as much as the big boys, that's all we need if we can beat City, Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal then why can't we beat the smaller teams because the players think that its too easy... They need to be slapped into reality...

KingMiz

OK what evidence are you using to support this claim?

Is it that we have 'teared it up this year'?
Last year?

There is no evidence for this claim at all.

Utd,city, chelsea, spurs and arsenal are already ahead of us and will be strengthening their squads with better players than we will be linked with.liverpools problems will not be solved by a striker and a right winger, and given the form of the players kenny and comolli bought last year would you trust them with another £100 million?

I dont think it will happean. What you dont seem to realise is that kenny is doing a rebuilding job it will take time also the other teams arnt going to sit still which will make it harder so you have to be patient.

I hope you guys keep Kenny as manager, never laughed so much in my life. Give him another 100million and he'll buy Heskey for £25million, Titus Bramble for £20million, Jordan Rhodes for £30million and Nicklas Bendter for £25million.

LOL

He wont be buying Bendtner?!?!? He isnt british so there!

Heskey is a bit expensive!

Ed great work..keep it up..
Hope u know better football than me...i want a sensible reply from me?
Does henderson has any clause like he shoule be playing week in week out wen he is fit?
i mean he is being played wide right every time? wen he is awful over there...
or is it that KK wants to justify his signings..he keeps on playing him? wen he dont fit into certain starting eleevn...he should be benched rather than playing out of position?
look at Kaka, he sits in bench wen he does not fit into some style..
KK just want adam, hendo and carroll to play play and play...
I think he knews that he paid over the price and he need to justify these signings..

Your reply expected {Ed002's Note - He won't have such a clause.}

Carroll is often on the bench when he should perhaps be on the pitch

For all you gloomsday merchants out there, please find 5 minutes to have a look at an article in The Tomkins Times, entitled "The Past v The Future".
Then post away and tell us that there is no plan or vision at Liverpool.
The Real KB

Gloomsday merchants = anyone asking a question.
gloomsday merchants = anyone who doesn't think KK is the the best manager we could have.
gloomsday merchants = anyone who doesn't agree with the majority view.
gloomsday merchants = anyone not saying "it will all come good in the end."
gloomsday merchants = anyone who doesn't agree that "next season is going to be amazing."

Gloomsday merchants = post in after dropped points, or an inconsistent run, and declare the LFC world will end
The Real KB

You're at the opposite end to their spectrum KB. They are gloomsday and you are an eternal optimist. A 'No Jerker' to coin a phrase I used recently.

At least your posts are positive.

Nevada

Good article, but on one point, I thought Ian Ayre said that our wage bill had actually gone up this season? Is this just a blip, taking into account certain deadwood that we are still paying or what?

Keith

The problem is KB, is that there is a clear decline in performances since Kenny has taken over. People talk about progress, but progress, by definition is an upward curve of success. In the 14/15 months Kenny has been in charge we have been on a downward curve, regressed. The first 6 months were very good, the next few months weren't bad followed by what we have now which is abysmal. Throw in to that, that Kenny has brought in 5 attacking players at a cost of more than £100 million to score less goals than last season and you can see the argument that we are not moving forward.

It is very similar to the point that people make about Rafa winning the CL with another coaches players. Kenny did very well with another coach's players. Half of the outfield players (when fit) are all Kennys and they are not performing. Would really have been worse off had we kept Meireles and not bought Adam. not bought Henderson but instead used Shelvey? I won't even go into the main bug bear - the Andy Carroll transfer as it is a well covered issue, but you get the picture.

Ash

These Gloomsday merchant's KB most of them are just telling it how it is! and the evidence concerning this league campaign is so blatant!

So, Kenny did well in his first 6 months in charge thanks to another coach's players did he? Would that be Jovanovic, Poulsen, Konchesky, Cole, Kyrgiakos, Meireles, Ngog, Degen, Insua, El Zhar? They couldn't string a decent 90mins of football between them! Seriously mate is Enrique not better than any of the fullback's mentioned? Is Downing not miles ahead of Jova/El Zhar? Is Coates not an improvement on the Greek? Or would you prefer Poulsen/Meireles & Ngog to Hendo/Adam & Carroll? People complaining about the players brought in by Kenny would do well to remember just how poor our squad actually was! If you don't think we've moved forward then my question to you is where would we have been now if we'd stuck with Roy, and the absolute rubbish he filled our already declining squad (thanks to the manager before him...) with? The only sight of Wembley we'd have had this season would've been the bloody promotion play-off's, if we were lucky! Have a bit of patience, and give the man and his team a chance to end the season strongly! What kind of supporters are we if we can't even do that?

Ryan 'O

Ryan 'O, yes, the majority of the players he had were his, I don't see your point. You are also aware that our player of the season, Meireles was a Hodgson signing right? It wasn't ALL dross that he bought. Personally, I would say Kenny's record is worse at the moment.

Ash

As {Ed001's Note - Lucas was player of the season, Meireles got the PFA fans award, mostly voted for by people who had never had to sit and watch him dive out of the way of any kind of physical contact.}

Whichever Ed, he was "a" player of the season shall we say. As you will know, football isn't ALL about diving into challenges, there is the "with the ball" aspect of it as well. Meireles seemed to strike up a good understanding with Torres if memory serves me correctly and then with Suarez. That understanding with Suarez is something the other players have struggled with this season which is why many of his chances have been self made.

He wasn't perfect, no, but he gets far more abuse for the whole "pulling out of challenges" thing than he perhaps should.

Ash {Ed001's Note - he couldn't pass, tackle and only managed to get shots on target in a run of 4 games before he got himself injured. He was awful, he got voted player of the season in the PFA awards, online voting mostly by people whose only knowledge of him was MOTD.}

Extremely harsh Ed. Completely disagree with you on that one.

Ash {Ed001's Note - we will have to agree to disagree then, as I have been watching him for Chelsea and he is awful still.}

Meireles is n will always be better than adam. hey ed001, u may disagree but thats the truth. Meireles atleast worked well with suarez, while adam just sums up kenny's disastrous reign.
Indian Buzzer {Ed001's Note - Meireles never worked well with anyone, Adam has had as many good games as Meireles ever did, but miserable whining little girls, like you, will forget about that as it doesn't give you something to whine about. I have no doubt you were whining about how poor Meireles was last season, simply because you only have bad things to say about Liverpool. Who is it you support again? There is nothing wrong with criticism, but you don't criticise, you bitch and whine, it is pathetic. Just once could you not say something constructive or interesting, just once not whinge?}

for me when everyone is fit; these are the best footballers at the club and would love to see this side on the pitch in the fa cup final obviously if we got there and if lucas was fit.
..........................reina
kelly.....skyrtel........agger.....robinson
....johnson..gerrard....lucas...enrique...
..................suarez...bellamy................

johnson and enrique are more comfortable and effective in possession than adam, spearing, downing or henderson.
against everton put spearing there instead of lucas.
the out ball for everton is always the full backs, they wouldn't get a look in against this team.

"The Irritation of King Kenny"

* From now on my long posts will be in HD and not available from iTunes at any time. For the benefit of those challenged by long posts and don't want to read them - don't read them.
** There is also a two line shortened version with spots to run your fingers along the line and mouth the words silently for others to follow.
*** For those who 'love' the media this is going to be one helluva train ride!
.................................
The interesting news this week from another Liverpool website was the announcement that Raheem Sterling has 'impregnated' two women. Not, mind you, made them pregnant, but 'impregnated' them. So amusing to see the media tricks of the trade used to announce the latest saga in an unsettled player's short life. Unsettled I hear you ask? Well as usual it depends on what you read and who you listen to.

The media often indulges in exaggeration (I know! I was also shocked to hear this) but it is often the work of agents and players themselves that causes the damage. As with Raheem Sterling, there is more to come. In his case I suspect the Twitter community has been used as a gossip palace once again. In the old days we hardly heard these sorts of things as technology was restricted to 2p phone boxes, two b&w TV channels and newspapers also in black and white.

Today it's easier to find out what the ludicrous and totally useless Kim Kardashian has for lunch than it is to talk to your bank manager. They no longer exist and neither does a private life for many footballers. Trouble is, if you insist on living your life for the media (Beckham, Rooney, Ferdinand) then you can't complain when it bites you. The issue with RS is one that may unsettle him further as it is clear to me that either his mother or agent would like him to leave. Why? I always think of it as money, although to be fair to some players, it is often more about opportunities to play. Then again, when you've stashed £600,000 in cash in Barclays by the time you're 19, you're not that bothered about money.

Losing RS and maybe a couple of other Academy players through lack of opportunities is a real threat to our future development as a club. We allowed Chris Mavinga to leave and that was also as a result of his frustration at lack of first team chances. Let's not get into the details of those, suffice to say they happen at every club. Some players will be seen as worth keeping, others not. My point is that we should trust the management here and not allow the media/fans to push younger players into the first team squad. There have been lots of posters asking for that.

RS is an exciting player - possibly a little small and lacking strength at present - but like Spearing, size is not that much of an issue. After all, Suarez is no Agger or Shawcross. The debates on this forum about 'slinging in' the younger players always seem such a knee-jerk reaction to me. Flanagan and Robinson have had higher calls recently and the fans have to be even more patient in their wants than these players.

I was wondering how people like Coates and Shelvey feel when they read these sorts of things; they are no more than kids themselves. They read about being pushed and squeezed by the new crop and yet there is minimal age difference and they have hardly established themselves as first team players. That I would guess is very hard to deal with as a young player.

Attracting younger players from mainland Europe would seem fraught with potential problems associated with this issue. Eden Hazard at Lille is a couple of years older than people like RS and Flanagan and similar in age to Shelvey and Coates. Saying to these valued players 'come on down' is good for the fans, but it plays havoc with the aforementioned. It's easy to ignore if the player in the Academy is a 50/50 possible star, but for players like Sterling it makes life harder, hence eyes cast elsewhere ........ or so the rumours spread.

It is here that people like KK really come into play (and one of the main reasons I would like to see him return as ambassador and Academy controller) with a legendary status. There is no doubt that we have a fine Academy staff, yet the presence of people like KK to soothe and assure, offer advice and restrain agents and parents is much valued in my eyes.

For those expecting a school composition summing up and points clearly outlined - you don't get one. My musings are meant as discussion points. I don't have the answers as John Cross of The Mirror, Adrian Durham on talkSH**TE and Stan Collymore on Planet Collymore obviously have. What I do have is an idea that we need more patience at youth level than we do at first team level (that's bowled a few readers over!) and in KK we have an almost perfect man to lead that drive.

Maybe someone at The Academy should have told Mr Sterling it can be wise to pull out of some challenges !
The Real KB

I'm quite surprised KB. You normally have quite a lot of negative things to say about Steve's posts. Then I suppose this one does praise Kenny...

Great post Steve. I may not always agree with what you say but you are always trying to give an alternate perspective and some insight.

Always well written and the first one was seriously funny.

It has little relevance unless the club have the ability to find a suitable candidate/replacement who's happy to come in and eventually field these youngsters like kenny has. KD's the 1st manager in decades to even try and play a few or integrate them. it might not be a relentless assualt of him using our youngsters but robinson, flanagan, sterling, shelvey, kelly, coates, eccleston, spearing, henderson, coady, wisdom and suso have all been regularly playing or slowly integrated during his spell in charge either through match time, squad positions on match day or just training with the 1st team regularly.
the club has started the transition of trying to develop youngsters and kenny has taken a huge part in that development even before his managerial tenure in the role you've mentioned. the owners have a huge dilemma, follow the long term project which is being implemented by KD and his staff (quietly) or move him out and find a replacement who is capable of coming in and working with these youngsters?
note to all the dreamers on here, the mourinho's, van gaal's, benitez's, hiddink's, scolari's, and the rest of many mentioned for that matter have shown little interest in their managerial careers of developing and integrating the academies prospects.
sometimes when removing a manager the notion of a 'quick fix' isn't always a quick fix. be careful what you wish for....

When Managers introduce a substitute it is usually a forward or midfield player so Sterling and other young forward or midfield players would be inclined to get more playing time and experience through being a sub as opposed to a defender who might have to wait longer for his chance and maybe more dependant on someone being injured or suspended.
So Coates,Flannagan,Sterling,Robinson are on the bench for any given game Sterling is the most likely to be used regardless of age.

Another Steve Parker piece that makes you think. Don't agree with all of it but still a great read. You thought of working with Paul Tompkins as his guest columnist? Now that would be a great match. Bet you'd get flooded with responses on there :)
Paul 67Bootle

I read somewhere that Neil Mellor was record scorer at the Academy in his day. It goes to show that not all promising youngsters will fulfill their promise in the PL. Chucking them in. as someone posted, isn't neccesarily a solution for the first team or for their development. From watching some reserve games, Suso seems more ready than Sterling but we need someone in Streling's position so he gets more of an opportunity. The management have to plan for the immediate and the longer term and I believe they are doing that.

Kev

In reply to the post above ; I'm pretty much like Paul 67Bootle. I find SP's posts are very well written, very readable, and they stir the juices. I don't agree with some of them, but that's what the page is here for isn't it ?

There is too much pressure on the players for them to actually perform. They are not confident enough to give 100% of their ability. I believe we should play players who are confident like Jonjo Shelvey who isn't scared of taking a shot or taking a player on as well as Raheem Sterling who isn't scared of taking his man on and can do it 95% of the time. I think confidence is the most key part of being successful - look at Lucas, his first 2 seasons he was nervous as heck but now he has settled down and has started being confident in his ability with a bit of crowd support as well. Chuck in Jonjo instead of Spearing who is just someone who can pass to the sides. Chuck in Raheem instead of Henderson who is too nervous to even do a simple pass even though he has all of the ability. Chuck in Morgan instead of Carroll who has had such a dip in confidence that he looks like a Sunday League player. I believe next season we need to bring in CONFIDENT PLAYERS who are not afraid to try things! If I was the manager I would play Morgan, Sterling and Shelvey untill the end of the season.

BthekingB

Thing Is mate carroll was one of the most confident players I have seen until he joined us. Moving to Liverpool and out of your comfort zone must knock you a bit.
If your boss rang you right now and said from tomorrow your going to be working in the London office, it would likely take you a while to settle.
I agree some of the players you mentioned should get a few games now, if only to give some of the others a rest.

MIKEY

Chuck in Kenny Dalglish instead of Rafa :)

cozinoz

Shelvey yes but playing Morgan and Sterling regularly would be a big mistake. Both are too young and inexperienced and it could shatter their confidence for years.

Next year I'd like to see more of Sterling, backing up Downing and a new right winger. Shelvey or Henderson playing next to Lucas if Gerrard isn't fit or is playing higher up the pitch. Also Suso and Silva joining the first team squad, that is unless they're out on loan.

Adam for me can go and be replaced by someone stronger in the tackle, more physical and consistent.

Spearing will stay as deputy to Lucas, but hopefully not be needed as often.

Papa G

So you think the best way to instill confidence in a player is to keep him on the bench and then play a teenage academy player in place of him?

Carroll needs a good run of games where the squad and tactics dont change so often. Usually when he plays we dont use wingers for crossing we keep the ball on the deck. When gerrard drifts wide is the only time Carroll gets decent crosses.

Nevada

Agree with Papa G. The problem with throwing Sterling in too early is that his fitness 'might' suffer long term, so why risk him too much for a little short term gain? This makes sense, as surely I want him at the club for many years to come. If we are really worried about losing him through not playing him, slap a huge price tag on him and more importantly, STICK TO IT!

Keith

True Nevada re.Carrol.Bit lazy git needs to run,and move too

28 Mar 2012 09:58:16
I don't know whats going to happen, but if Dalglish stays with the current crop of players for next season I don't have high hopes at all, we 'll be in the mix for top 4 that's all & if possible lucky some cup. Unless he ends wasting more money on crap players and buys two or three quality buys (he describe as hell of a talent) in summer to take us to next level and stops favoring his players and change his tactics.

Some people really think we 'll win the FA cup but unless we win it we can't say it is in the bag, I prefer not to look at the league table, it hurts when I see Liverpool in seventh even 8 pts behind the likes of Newcastle in 6th, [May be 7th really is seventh heaven for some of these Kenny lovers]

With the mess we are in ... I am hearing some negative stuff about FSG, like very little money to spend in for the summer and such a long delay in deciding stadium issue. yes I don't expect them to be like Abramovich or Citeh sheikhs but I hope they give some more cash for summer we clearly needs it, & not the end then it comes to Dalglish hand whether he will spend it wisely or not is another big question?

Now no more British please, This is my plan and I KNEW THIS IS NOT SOME FOOTBALL MANAGER GAME, it is not going to happen or not I don't care, I believe theses type of change needed very much to take us to next level.

With the fact that attracting top players without UCL will be difficult in mind, we need to try to un-earth some hidden jems and sign at least 2/3 players of high quality offering them some high wages.

- A striker (I would love Cavani or Higuain but Soldado or Girould would be affordable & not Luke De Jong
ahead of them )

- A right winger (Mattt Philips, Ramirez are not the hell of a talent type eh... yes we won't get Angel Di Maria or Robben but Valbuena or Eriksen would be affordable)

- A dynamic Center mid (yes not Schweinsteiger, Goetze or Xabi Alonso back.. but we need to try hard to get one of Yan M'Villa and Javi Martinez.

Thats it three new players to take us to next level.
And to be fair in-terms of today's inflated market value thats around at least 50-60M.

Now lets get to the players that will leave and what possible money we might get from them,

-Carragher (great servant but his time up retire plz)
-Kuyt (5M)
-Maxi (1M or less or for free)
-Doni (free)
-Aurelio (free)
-Joe Cole (2-3M)
-Aquilani (5M)
-Johnson (10-12M = I would say if he is to join any English club, it would be Man City who will offer him wage of his desire and Pablo Zabaleta is leaving City this summer to Spain so a likely replacement for him)

- I heard that one of our recent signings will leave in summer, as looking at situation we need it to happen to raise money so it is possible, I would say if possible we should try to cash on Adam and Henderson, Henderson is young so that leaves Adam the likeliest candidate.
We could get 5-6M for Adam.

-So total from sale is around 30M now that's some money and wages off the list, add another 30-35M from the owners to it and its a decent enough transfer kitty for the summer.

Lets have a look at the squad for next season:

first XI:
Reina

Kelly Skrtel Agger Enrique

Gerrard Lucas M' Villa/Martinez

Valbuena/Eriksen Suarez

Soladao/Giroud

second XI:
Gulacsi

Flanagan Coates Wilson/Wisdom Robinson

Henderson Spearing

Shelvey

Downing/TonySilva Bellamy/Sterling

Andy Carroll

Now thats a very good bench and hell of a starting XI.
My bee bit low on defense and backup keeper but with the all these hearing of not having enough money to spend that's pretty decent squad and team from some very nice and reasonable spending.

Yes this may look rocket science, but believe me unless we see a kind of business like this from Liverpool it would be hard to get into top 4 and to have a very good next season.

Matty

Carroll will be gone. Front two will be Suarez and Suarez. I know ;)

100% agree if kenny sticks with the likes of Downing,Henderson and Adam(who should never put red shirt on again) then i have no high hopes for next season or many to come.those that are happy with kenny and being 7th need to take the heads out the sand.

Dont know if you are aware Matty but De Jong currently has the best chance to goals conversion ratio in europe. Could actually be the world but I couldnt be bothered doing the stats for the whole world.

I posted about it a few months ago when we were first linked.

You won't get them players! By continuing to link lfc with those players your not only taking the pish out of yourself but out of liverpool as well

Get it out ur head liverpool have no chance of getting erickson and we wont be signing a host of players agen this season.
money is available despite what others say but there will only be 3, 4 at most.
erickson----- nochance
soldado------ dnt think this summer
de jong ------ available and will come
ramirez ------ has said he will consider teams with amibition but has his head been turned i hope not
isla----- only if johnson leaves
matt phillips----- very possible
jordan rhodes ------ hopefully and put on loan to a championship team for a yeah,he is a quality finisher reminds me of our own robble fowler.
i would like us to move for keita and have discussed why with ed002 before,he/she can see where am coming from but cannot see it happening.
with lucas back nxt season gerrard hopfully fully fit, a winger and a goalscorer i think nxt season we will finish in top 4.

You obviously play too much championship manager!!

ok so, which players did Dalglish pick and which did stat-man (Comolli) pick since the King took charge!
Dalglish-Adam, Downing, Carroll,Enrique
Comolli-Henderson, Suarez
What do ye think?

I believe that Comolli picked Suarez and Texeira and that is it.

BthekingB

Why do people keep calling comolli a stat man?

You do that he scouts players and gives reports based on match performances and not just reading a sheet of statistics, I think this is more of the sabremetrics confusion.

if we loose to newcastle i think kenny will be sacked so forget about the 14th. We have the worst form in 60 years if we loose another we will have to go back before the second world war when we played that bad. And most players were called up for duty. How can the owners be so dumb not to buy jelavic. We were linked to him all window and they were to tight to pay 5 million a signing which could have helped us so much. Lets face it kenny has been a massive failure and is living on borrowed time. To the guy that said spurs or chelsea in the final are you born in a barn mate. Everton probably have better players then us at the moment. Fellani is better then any midfielder kenny bought jelavic better then any forward kenny bought. Suarez could not hit a barn door he needs 20 chances to score Carroll an unproven player total rubbish bought for 35 million thats worth the sack itself. If moyes had 35 million i reckeon everton would be in the top5

And what if we do lose and Kenny is still at the helm? What then, wise guy?

When we was linked to Jalevic all the moaners like yourself came out in force saying he wasn't good enough we needed the big names like Higuain, Cavani and Llorente, as for the rest of your post, you've just repeated the same old rubbish that has been said over and over again for the past several weeks!

did anyone see Kaka last night for Real?......
Lets stop messing around now THATS the standard of player LFC should be eyeing up champions league or not never mind players like Phillips and Johnson
YNWA

Can you pay for such players, Mr. Big Dreams?

They would swap Kaka for Suarez in the blink of an eye : 0 ) Really!

So if we cant pay..the ny are u moarning that we are not in CL? we wil lnever be..coz we dont have money to buy..and wen we had..we bought absolute s**t..35 mill for carroll..give ne 10 mill i can score more goals than him..neitehr we can spend, nor we can pay..then what shal we do??

The way to pay for players like Kaka (200k or so per week) is to have a large stadium and related revenue streams. The other way is to push for a salary cap, as in American sports.

Relying on "Champions League income" is foolish, as it is not automatically renewable. Ask Leeds United.

I know this might be a stupid question but based on rumours and plausibility, if get a striker and a right forward who is it most likely to be?

...that really is a stupid question. Given LFC wont even know who is gonna be available til summer.

Roy Race and Blackie Gray :)

Any other outcome summer other than Dalglish leaving would be detrimental, sad and unintelligent. Circa 100 million spending in under 18 months warrants, at the very least, a sustained charge at the top 4 places. At no stage have looked credible challengers. Instead, we huffed and puffed and now are set to finish in our lowest position for years. Dalglish has no merit. Hes been found out. He HAS to go, if this team is serious about achieving any sort of important success. TONY BROWN

He should not be allowed to manage the club after the wigan game he should have had a p45

FSG should listen to fools like you, sir. You think spending money guarantees top placing?

Exactly look at City over the last 3 years or so!

If you supported City, you'd be on their page now moaning about £350m spent & just an FA cup to show for it... you're just a serial moaner!

Spendig money does not gaurentee top placings but spending money(100 million to be exact) on overatted under achieving waste of spaces is not the best way foward.

Spending money will not guarantee yo u success..but u tell me how will we acieve it? the las ttime we were in Cl we had commandable palyers like alonso, torres, mascherano, gerrard..who are real Cl players...u say..wit hhenderson ,adam, and caroll we wil lachieve something?? how did rafa bought xabi for 10 mill?? how did he bought torres for 20 mill?? what the hell did kenny bought apart from enrique and suarez??

Have you heard you lot i hope wen in the sandown before games sipping a pint i hope i never have the pleasure of your company.roll on next season wen most of you have no need to post!!

Why are people surprised kenny bought a striker like carrol? Newel, Sutton and shearer were signed for Blackburn? He's exactly the kind of player kk likes when he's building a side.

Anyone think that we should bring back Roy Evans in some capacity? His teams knew how to play football ,especially attacking wise. It is common knowledge that the defensive side was,nt very good but I read somewhere that he was always looking to fetch top class defenders in . David moores and the board refused to sanction deals for some highly respected defenders who Evans wanted. Marcel Dessailly was one of them. if he had defenders of that calibre together with the rear of that squad we would have continued our run of success. Shame that a man that has so much to offer is totally ignored by the club. He would probably walk back into Anfield and do a job for nothing. Back to the boot room boys. Nothing ventured, nothing gained as the old saying goes.
Robbie

One word answer

NO

I agree there must be a place for him we was great going forward in the 90s.i say get rid of keen and bring roy back to drinking whiskey in the bootroom lol

See the 'Express' has a article about LFC and Everton groundshare option.
I am just a outsider looking in (not from Liverpool), but the idea does strike me as plausible.
Both clubs (article states) have fallen behind the Manchester and London teams.

As I see it, short of a absolute financial miracle, a 'new stadium' will not be built (its just too costly), and the redevelopment of Anfield is possible, but is it going to meet LFC's needs longterm (limitations to build a major issue).
So, what does that leave, 'a shared ground', surely its a better option than what clubs have now.
Sometimes, one has t put your pride in your pocket, step back, and get the full perspective.
Maybe this option will finally give LFC its 75K capacity stadium.
Red Apple.

If we share a ground i will support another team {Ed002's Note - Everton?}

Why not? The rest of the country see's the mersey derby as a picnic derby! ' oh they all stand together , go to the game together, sing together and drink together
Certainly wouldn't get that at west ham v millwall or west ham v spurs or spurs v arsenal, united v city or rangers v celtic? So why not share? {Ed001's Note - god no, it is a terrible idea and never works, which is why all the teams that do ground share are always looking for ways to get their own ground.}

A few years ago I would have seriously considered giving up footy and taking up lacrosse rather than share a ground with the redsh...erm Liverpool, however looking at Munich and Milan plus thinking about our own individual circumstances i.e. lets face it the Mancs and Londoners have pretty much got things sewn up right now...I don't see why we couldn't do this and still be the best of enemies
we would both be given a realistic chance of competing at the top again

Evertonyn

And what are efc gonna pay with? Paper clips?

red snake

"Picnic derby"poster. When did you last go to a Derby?Atmospheres a lot different!

I think this option certainly merits further discussion between the clubs, city officials, sponsors etc.
At this point both clubs have fallen behind the Manc and London teams.
Maybe the supporters of both teams need to realise that if something like this is not done, then all we will have left is history (glorious as it may be), because both clubs will never be competitive again (chance to win the league).
All LFC and Everton will have are the glory years of the 70's, 80's and 90's to remember.
A shared ground though difficult to comprehend for some fans, would greatly benefit both teams and Liverpool itself, and hopefull re-establish the city once again as a football "powerhouse".
Its sink or swim time.

Rumour is that Old Trafford will be expanded to over 90k (that's more than LFC and Evertons combined capacity), Man City owners have loads of money to do what they want, Arsenal have a beautiful 60k stadium, Chelsea exploring options and have loads of money, West Ham will have new stadium, even Spurs are looking at options (rumour of new owners).
So where does that leave LFC and Everton... Far behind that is. Time to move from the past and into the future!!..

Don't think Charlie Adam will playing again this season

Dns

Thank god for that

Adam should never play for liverpool again injured or not

Adam makes anderson n carrick look good. I hope qpr ws his last game in a red shirt. If he is still a liverpool player come august, then he must be kenny's love child.
Indian Buzzer

Bad luck for the guy but most fans would rather see him on the sidelines anyway. Give Shelvey his place and see what he can do- the guy has got the confidence and talent of a senior pro so come on Kenny play him (even though he was not one of your buys)

that was a very good assist from torres, im not the person who wants him back dont worry, just thought henderson could learn from that pass, cool, waited ball.

Kaizer

He looks like he might have gained a half yard of pace back as well which doesnt hurt

Henderson would stuggle to get in some championship teams.

So would Torres.

---------------- Reina
Johnson --- Skrtel --- Agger --- Enrique
(2) ------ Gerrard --- Lucas --- Bellamy / Sterling
-------------- (1) --- Suarez

------------------ Gulacsi
Kelly ----- Carragher --- Coates --- Aurelio / Robinson
------------------ Spearing
(3) ------ Henderson --- Adam ----- Downing
------------------- Carroll

(1) L.Damiao / E.Cavani / M.Suarez / K-J.Huntelaar
(2) D.Costa / A.Johnson / N.Gaitan / A.Robben
(3) M.Phillips / M.Albrighton

For 1 I think De Jong or Soldado are more likely. 2 for me is Dempsey. 3 I actually like Albrighton a lot but Phillips is probably a better buy.

For me I'd consider having Johnson and Dempsey starting on the wings with Soldado or De Jong (I'd be happy with either) up front with Suarez. Bellamy and Downing would be 2nd choice (although maybe 1st choice- would depend on form).

What's the odds of your name getting drawn out of the hat for the Semi Final Tickets Ballot at LFC ?
Back in the day, my old fella was a season ticket holder and used to write to the ticket office asking for five tickets please, and enclose an open cheque !
Lol.
And most of the time he'd get them as well.
