nice to see 3 british teams have made it into the semi-finals of the nextgen, I would like to wish them all goodluck.

Liverpool didn't take that competition serious at all. All there players were like three years young which is good for development I guess.

Your wrong on all counts there mate, lfc took the competition deadly seriously, there where 7 overage players in the squad and the majority of the rest of the squad will be 19 this year, the squad also included
suso
nacho
sama
teixeira
wisdom
stirling
morgan

i think you should give credit where credit is due to the 3 teams that have made it to the semi, s

To the poster above me get your facts right sterling, suso, wisdom or texeira didn't play at all and lads below 16 also featured at some point in the tournament.

Lil Red

Great news.

Meanwhile there are no English teams left in the champions league.

Lil red
rubbish, the squad is named before the competition starts, its easy to google the lfc 2013 nextgen squad. the players I have mentioned where in the squad and most of them where 18 and older

If you really have time to be checking up squads then why not check all the teams that played in the nextgen and you won't find any of the four names, the players have to be 18 or below so texeira and wisdom were ineligible and sterling and suso were in the first team so didn't play.

Lil Red

Lil red please check the rules (sigh)you are allowed a a certain amount of overaged players in the squad, and as for rest, the 18 you mention goes goes all the way through to the day before they turn 19

eds, i've seen a few rumours that we've had a bid for rui patricio rejected by sporting, do you think there's any interest in him from us? {Ed002's Note - I am not aware of a bid.}

EDS do u see Liverpool going for two cb ashley williiams and dede {Ed002's Note - See numerous previous answers.}

I think the only reason everyone is hating on williams is because he plats for Swansea. Admittedly I would rather get dede but williams has got what we need; determination, leadership, he's vocal and not too expensive. I know the majority will disagree but I believe it would be a top signing.

13reds

If Williams was foreign, had a flamboyant name like De Vrij or Dede and played as well as he has for Swansea in the last couple of years but in a different League all the sheep would be jumping on the bandwagon saying we should sign him as he'll definitely be better than any British player who has experience and has proven to be a good defender in the Prem.

I have a reason. He said bad stuff about Suarez.

Would b a top signing for any team. Reminds me of Ledley King before his injuries. Always seems to be in the right place and so determined.

"I have a reason. He said bad stuff about Suarez"

yeah, but if Suarez leaves us people like you will be saying bad things 'bout him too.

Agree with Piledriver, he pushed a marketing campaign as his book launched when LFC came up against Swansea. Completely disrespectful move against LFC as a whole and in my opinion wouldn't be good for the team ethos, would rather see Agger, Sakho, De Vrij and Johnson as a back line. Awesome back line of ball playing defenders.

Pile driver, that's dreadful. How dare he say anything bad about St Luis.

AJH

Another reason which is most important he is not good enough

He's exactly what we need to replace carra but he won't be bought due to price age etc. I think we will look elsewhere to be honest.

He is a class defender but because he is not a european superstar he is not good enough.

Again proving we are the most knowledgable fans in the world.

Kevin keegan came from Scunthorpe. I'll leave you with that.

over the past couple of months I've made a huge mistake. I've looked at the remaning fixtures and tried to predict the outcomes and ultimately our final position. if we as fans keep looking ahead we're only going to get knocked upside the head when they don't materialize. I think it is realistic that we can achieve a top 5-6 finish if we play solid football, but I refuse to look further than villa. l feel we can definitely get a positive result there. keep up the optimism but don't stretch it too far beyond what is achievable.

I totally agree, the Aston Villa & West Brom games at Anfield were the killer for me, regarding predicting points on the board whilst looking at the teams above us, also the Southampton result should have been avoided.

I guess we have to find consistency before we can succesfully predict regular wins.

I too am looking only 'one game at a time'. A win at Villa Park is a must!

Unrealistic to finish 6th! We should be aiming to win every game and see we were we end up.

28 Mar 2013 16:19:04
All is not lost, according to sky you need an average of 64 points to get 4th spot which means we need 19 points from an available 24. But if you look at the teams we need to play it is still possible.

Aston villa- win
West ham- win
Reading- win
Chelsea- draw
Newcastle- win
Everton - draw
Fulham- win
QPR- win

This will give us a total of 20 points so really we just need to win 6 of the next 8 games and fourth is possible! let's not give up hope!

Think we need to win all our last 8 games to stand any remote chance of 4th spot.

Nicky D

The way we played villa last time I very much doubt we will win. there are no easy games in EPL. ill be very happy if we finish for europa league.

It has less to do with us than that.

Yes we may attain 64 points or so, but we would still need Spurs, Arsenal and Everton to drop more than a few points. Self destuct would be a better term.

Well THAT'S GOT to be The AIM!-Even though we've done our best to fook it after some insipid displays at times. Especially when our hopes have been raised then dashed at Southampton

We'll beat Chelsea at home, we always do ;)

I really don't get this. 7 people have said they disagree, why?We ALL should be supporting our club. Even if we still think there is no chance of getting 4th there is still that we bit of hope that we just, just might do it.

Shut up about 4 th! Seriously it's this kind of pressure that keeps knocking us back. Yes we should support the team, but also use are heads and realistically do we even deserve it, there's 4-5 other teams who have been better than us and that's not including united and city. Wait till next season, I am telling you now and said quarter of the season through we have no chance! Pull your heads out of your arses and accept we will be lucky to get 6th

Before I would of agreed with this post but unfortunately Liverpool are very hit and miss so the games we expect to win I don't know whether we will turn up tbh

London red

4th went out of the window when west brom and southampton happened.

Chelsea game will be a big problem rafa will see to that

Seems to be a trend not just on here but across football that any signings need to be super star footballers, the finished article and they are normally european names I have never heard of! - Surely part of the managers job is to coach and manage the player to get more out of him and improve them.

Downing, Henderson, Enrique, Suarez - all seem to be playing to a better than the last season.

When signings of Ince and Williams are mentioned we are so quick to dismiss them - yet who's to say that BR can't get another 20% out of them -? then they would be a real asset to us.

I'm also keen to not soley go for european players as I think premier league experience is vital.

For the budget that we are likely to have, I think we will be fishing in a pond that contains Ince, Williams, Maloney, Lakaku etc and if BR can fit them into the team and increase our overall performance and subsequent league position then that will be decent enough progress.

Premier league players are just as much of a gamble. Remember Downing, Henderson in their first season with us? They had years of prem experience ( maybe not Henderson as much but he had at least one in premier before his move to us.

Point being all players are a gamble regardless where they sign from. The advantage of buying European players is you get more value for money, as you don't have to pay extortionate fees to sign them.

Yes Jonesred knows all about foreign signings and football.
If I remember rightly you never stopped banging on about the prolific striker who'd only bagged about a goal a season for the last couple, and you advocated paying a pretty penny for him. He appeared on list after list of players you were convinced could turn this club around. Oh his name, Mauro Zarate.

Williams, Zambrano, Eriksen/Mikhitaryan, Dzsudzsak, Ince.

Realistic and it'd take us onward

I really hope the window ends with us signing Mikhitaryan, Dede, Ince and a Quality DM (hopefully Wanyama).
I know a tad unrealisitic as the whole bunch would cost around 45-50 million pounds but with a bit of luck and good negotiation we should get around 30 million from player sales.
If and that is a big if we can get these four we should easily finish top4 (if the players play to their potential i. e).
What do you reckon fellow kopites?

Don't agree about Williams

Mikhitaryan's agent has claimed they are talking to spurs?

Wanyama is a must for me and definitely very possible. He's got everthing we need. Him and lucas playing together will be almost impossible to break down.

Really want Dede for defence. The man is a beast. He'll be tougher to get though.

Choice of Attacking midfilder would be Marthykan (sorry about the spelling. I should have copied and pasted). Creative and can score goals.

RW would be De Bruyne. Young and insanely talented. Reminds me a bit of a young Bale. Chelsea might just let him leave as the are stacked in his position.

These four for me would give us a real shot at 4th. Won't be easy to get any of them though. Still, a man can dream.

Davey Sulls

I agree with Davey. Wanyama and Dede would sort us out defensively, for this window at least and then maybe we can get a new left back. They are just absolute tanks and at the moment we need that because we get bullied far too much. I haven't seen a lot of Mkhitaryan to be honest but a lot of people more informed than myself seem to be raving about him.

I wouldn't go for DeBruyne personally because with Sterling and Ibe coming through I think the last thing we need is another young forward with potential.

Hi Eds,
This may or may not be of relevance to Liverpool. Living in Australia I would like to know if any Australian players are attracting interest or are set for moves to European clubs, or if any older European players who are past their prime are set for moves to A League clubs, like Del Piero's move to Sydney. I understand Matt Ryan, the leagues best goalkeeper had a trial with Spurs in the summer, Bernie Ibini Isei also had a trial with Brugge and a 15 year old, Danny de Silva, from my local team, Perth glory, was set for a move to Everton but did not eventuate due to Visa issues, he was also apparently attracting interest from Inter. Are these 3 players set for moves in particular.

I am half Kiwi (New Zealand) and support the Kiwis more than my country of Birth. Marco Rojas was reported to be of interest to Liverpool and Juventus, do you see a European move eventuating for him. Chris Wood another Kiwi is doing quite well in the Championship, is he of interest to any Premier League teams or is his team, Leicester any chance of being promoted. I also see Cameron Howieson of Burnley was reported to be interesting Liverpool after some good youth performances.

Cheers Eds

PS Burnley has an Academy down here in Perth, a name to watch out for in the future is Michael McDougall, he is only 14 but has trialled with Burnley in January and is extremely driven and has exceptional talent. Also Ed002 he would jump at a chance to join Chelsea.

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any Australian players being looked at by the European sides. Rojas to Liverpool, as I have said I know nothing of it. Again I know not of Liverpool interest in Howieson. As for any 14 year old, moving a player before 18 would require all sorts of things to happen - not least at least one parent to move with them. Perhaps in the future.}

Thanks for the reply, soccer isn't a big thing down here in Australia, the main sport is AFL and it absorbs most of the media time for sport, not that I mind that, AFL is better than soccer in my opinion. Same in New Zealand for rugby.

Thanks for the reply though. You've given me more information than what I would have been able to find out here.

Cheers

28 Mar 2013 13:32:29
AFL?
What the hell is that? lol, I have family in Australia, and have never once heard of that. Thought it was all Cricket and 'Soccer' over there? haha.

At a guess, is AFL something to do with a deadly animal?

YNWA! (Adam)

FOOTBALL is the world game, not this gayfl you talk of. and rugby is rubbish too. u mad?

AFL?

Mighty sport. 10 times what soccer is!

Ed how much money will FSG give BR to spend this summer?

Thanks Brad {Ed002's Note - I really don't know Brad.}

They are currently scratching around under the sette looking for money so BR can buy some players because KK spend most of their life saving on dross! All hail the king! LOL

Like the 100 per cent success rate every other club has had with their big signings? At least we've learned to offload the time wasters without delay. So far The King has done rather better than his successor and predecessor.

28 Mar 2013 10:48:01
i cannot see us winning the league with rodgers in charge. if the papers are to be believed the signings of ince and williams will get us nowhere only mid table.

I don't think any manager would win us the league with our side so your being a bit harsh on BR.

Until we get better quality and consistency we won't be anywhere near.

28 Mar 2013 12:06:02
we have already spend a huge money dude.
so quality should be searched wisely.
we can't experiment.

If anything Rodgers is the only man who ever has a chance - imagine 3 or 4 years from now what a group of quality players will be like at their peak playing his football. He built Swansea up to be Premier League quality, you don't think he can take Liverpool further? Our only failings this season as I see it have been failing to capitalise on form - Villa, West Brom and Soton results. Apart from that it's all positives.

'He built Swansea up to be Premier League quality' - Don't get me wrong, I like BR, but the team he inherited was mostly thanks to Martinez. Rodgers just solidified it. Hence why I can see why LFC fans are skeptical still about his appointment - It's one thing solidifying an already solid Championship club, it's another thing to rebuild a hugely faltering Premier League club almost from the ground up. Still, I reckon he'll get us there, it just might be a painful road.

JFT 96

JP

Whatever the budget BR and his merry men have got to spend it wisely on value for money players who can actually progress the squad further.
No more injured crocks and average players for top money as has happened for many many years at LFC.

After marrinez it was paulo sousa and he sidnt do too well did he? Only until BR came in did the get promoted

And remind me why wigan are always in a relegation battle but BR led swansea to mid table in their first PL season?

To those who disgree - are you actually people? Do you have any compassion? You are what is wrong with the world, to disagree with such a statement over a matter like what football team you support, you are an absolute utter disgrace. You should be so ashamed of yourselves.
