Do you guys know if the paper talk about Borini leaving are accurate, if so has there been any replacements suggested? Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Alexandre Lacazette and Henug-Min Son are forwards and have been looked at.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we are selling Aspas and Borini I wouldn't be surprised if went for Bony. Sturridge won't play twice a week all season so Bony & Sturridge would play roughly equal time over the campaign. Borini's loan will have made him a player in demand for teams in the group below the top 6 like Sunderland, Swansea & Southampton.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just because we put a price tag on him doesn't mean we are selling. It just means that's the price for him & it will get rid of any interest that ins't deemed serious by LFC's valuation of the player.

hi all

regarding the way we bid for players, I agree with a lot of fans on here who say we always bid too low, I would love to know the reason behind this, is it to keep us fans happy who want us to bid for a lot of players, the club know that if they bid very low it will be rejected so why do they waste time doing it, I remember one of our 1st bids for suarez it was 12 million, then I remember steve bruce talking about the henderson transfer and steve bruce said he would have happily accepted 4 or 5 mill for henderson and he could not believe it when we bid so much for him, the same with andy carrol, newcastle knew we had the money from torres, so they held out for as much as they could and we all know how much we paid for him, so why do we pay over the odds for some players and then bid stupidly low for the better ones its like in january we bid the right price for kono, but now we don't want to know, it just does not make sense to me, look how much we paid for downing its like the people who does the transfer deals just guess and hope it works

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Pretty sure FSG won't agree that we always bid too low. We've also signed more players than most teams which suggests that's we are pretty good at matching valuations.

hi eds

ive read that lallana has had a few good seasons for southampton, a few of them would have been in the lower leagues, so does this rate him more than what we are offering, I mean in the lower leagues the players are not as good as the players in the prem or in europe, especially in the champs league, so do you really think he is good enough for us to play in the champs league, please don't get me wrong he is a good player, but charlie adam had a few good seasons before we bought him and look how he turned out for us, now i'm not saying lallana is the same as charlie adam but there is similarities between them they both played well in lower leagues the championship and they had good seasons in the prem, I don't know about charlie adams role before he came to us, but I do know that lallana had a free role to play any where on the pitch and the southampton team was built around him, if he came to Liverpool he would not have the same roving role plus our team will not be built around him,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The problem with Charlie Adam was that he was issued no defensive responsibility at Blackpool which meant he could do what he likes in midfield, while Lallana, operating a similar position of freeness also helps on the defensive end tracking runners. Adam has no pace while Lallana has, both have similar passing abilities(Adam's was great in fairness but Lallana is better). Something tells me Lallana would be a great buy and only Rodgers and Ayre will know if he is worth the fee requested but personally I'd love to see him at the club

Agree0 Disagree0

Lallana is a way better player than Charlie Adam ever was.

Agree0 Disagree0

Poor comparison, imo. Charlie Adam couldn't physically move whereas Lallana buzzes around the place and gets involved. I'd be surprised if over 20% of fans thought Charlie Adam was going to be a good signing for us.

Kike Marin. Have you heard of him? No? Neither have I. He says we're close to signing Moreno for €20 mil.

As an aside Luis Alberto's girlfriend's dad said the 'source' that had the news earlier on is reliable. Here we go. Silly Season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I know.

I won't believe we are close to signing Lallana until someone's source from the club shop states that a massive order for "L" and "A" iron on letters was ordered.

Hi all, for two years I've been reading posters raving about this guy Tello, is he really that good that you want him ahead of Kono or Shaquri and others.
I haven't seen him but also have read much if anything about him apart from being on the wish list of so many of our fans.

Eds, is he really as good as what some are saying here?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No idea.}

28 May 2014 21:38:45
Eds you say Liverpool might go in with a player + cash deal for Lallana. Any idea on the player we are willing to offer that Soton would be interested in? Or will any deal need to wait until a new manager is found.

Many Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Enrique will be an option. Maybe a loan for Alberto or someone else.}

Jordon Ibe on loan an option?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ibe could play his way into our squad next season.if he goes on loan hopefully it's only 6 months because I think he could make an impact at first team level next season. Sterlings rise should spur him on and create positive competition that benefits everyone but especially the team. I'd much rather give Ibe a chance now than buy someone with promise from abroad like Tello.

Dream transfer dealings this summer would be

J. Martinez
A. Moreno.
A. Sanchez or X. Shaqiri.

I know long shot but would certainly strengthen first team considerably.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 May 2014 20:53:57
Ed002 can I get your opinion on this if you have time. Liverpool failed to get dempsey, salah and a few others because of price. I like to see the club get a good deal but some of our offers have been well below what other clubs want and embarrassing to quote' I feel if Liverpool miss out on lalanna, clubs will not want to do business with us. lallana might well not be worth 30million but i'm sure Liverpool are aware he's worth a lot more than we offer. Numbers aside, some of the deals arejust time wasting imo

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There is a longer answer to another post which might help, but it remains the situation that clubs need to agree a fee and terms for any transfer and if they can't it doesn't happen. It is certainly possible to go in with realistic bids and work from there. A very low bid will simply result in rejection. IO am sure Liverpool will be fine once reality strikes.}

28 May 2014 21:20:19
Seems we have had a very low bid. You stated below, we have had some difference in the fees regarding Salah. Chelsea bought him at 12 mill. I would imagine a bid of around 6 mill for him, which is rightly to reject.
Lallana is one such case, But we have had no bids on any other targets, or even any kinda offers.
CB, LB, LW, these are all priorities.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Drop the numbers Harry.}

Only the "failure" to get Salah was offset by Sterling progressing unbelievably and elevating himself into the 20m bracket (minimum). The "failure" to get Dempsey sweetened by the purchase of Sturridge for 12m. All of which prove there are plenty of players, plenty of options. Just let the summer unfold - we can't influence anything on a forum so stop stressing!

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 17:33:57
You've hit the nail on the head there Ed002. We'll never be privy to the numbers involved in any bids but the club must know which offers will initiate a serious discussion. From the outside it seems that our valuations tend to be on the low side - nothing wrong with that if we are being realistic but it could mean that we lose our targets to other clubs. Maybe they will surprise us soon - that's why we keeping checking these pages (as well as to voice our frustration!). Keep up the good work Eds.

Hi Eds

What on earth are Liverpool doing concerning the Adam Lallana deal, are Spurs going to steal yet another player from under our noses?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - RTP.}

28 May 2014 21:23:25
Lallana to Spurs doesn't make sense. The player has clearly said the ambition to play in CL. Spurs have no assurance of top 4 finish next season. He is 26. Once the contract is signed, It would be difficult for him to move out, If Spurs fails to reach top 4 next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lallana to Spurs makes sense if Spurs are the ones willing to meet Soton's valuation and the player is willing to make the move and agree terms.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, the one thing which will improve the Spurs team is yet another midfielder to fill up their bench.

Perhaps Lallana is not seen as a priority to LFC and the bid reflects that?
Perhaps they don't think he is a £25m payer. I happen to agree, he's average.

Some people need to wake up. Just because you want Lallana, doesn't mean Liverpool see it as a priority. Just because we've bid on Lallana, doesn't mean he is the number 1 target.

Just chill out, it's still May. Let the club take care of business, stop expecting a revolving door at Melwood. Sometimes you don't need 2 dozen new players every 6 months. Perhaps such a reckless transfer policy doesn't help consistency.
If we don't get Lallana, I won't be losing any sleep. Who cares if he goes to spuds, he's not even that good. A modern day Paul Stewart.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lallana will view his options before any move takes place, he is keen to see what his former and possibly 'new' manager would have to offer him? Lfc remain favourites but spurs have yet to throw their hat in the ring…. But they will

Agree0 Disagree0

But he`s not willing to go there by some accounts so the deal won`t happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ken Aguero - thanks for saving me the time to write pretty much exactly what you did. I totally concur.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ken Aguero for PM! Finally someone who talks a bit of sense. Can't say I value Lallana any where close to £25m. I like the lad, and think he would fit in to our style of play really well, but I'm happy we show that we won't be held to ransom over players. If they don't wanna budge on price we should move on to the next target, which I'm pretty sure there will be a number of! YNWA

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I think he is a good player but like Ken, I would not want to fork out £25/30 million for him. For that money there are better players. Or for less, just as good players.

"A modern day Paul Stewart"? Now that is a kick in the teeth. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Wow. A modern day Paul Stewart. Poor Fella.
I would be interested in ED001's take on this as Paul Stewart was his favourite player of all time:)
I think that the Paul Stewart jibe apart that Ken Aguero is absolutely right.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I disagree completely on that assessment, Lallana can actually kick the ball in the direction he intended. Stewart was just a big lump, and had no skill, while Lallana is a skilful player. Having said all that, I don't feel the need to spend big on Lallana right now. I would rather see us pursue Konoplyanka.}

Lallana is probably one of the most technically gidted players in the league, nobody knows what is his stronger foot. plays in the att midfield role don't come cheap, people moaning about the fee that's not upto lallana its up to his club who aren't pushed to sell, does. do people think ozil is worth 40 million because i'd rather lallana than him. he's proven in the league the last to seasons and I beleive no more than 25mill. he works his socks off he's very good technically and doesn't seem to be a primadonna and with a coaching from rodgers and better players around him I think he can become even better

Agree0 Disagree0

Vote Aguero!

It seems certain jose enrique will be sold anyone know why . Am I missing something I thought he has been injured is there another reason he is no longer wanted?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Has good strength and pace but he doesn't follow orders and does what he wants, a bit like my dog.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 May 2014 21:52:25
He's an okay fullback, although he does tend to put on the horse-blinders when it comes to passing sometimes. We could sign a better one, but if he was fit I wouldn't consider LB a priority.

I have this memory of one of the Eds suggesting that his injury problems were expected to persist and that's part of the reason the club are looking at letting him go. Although I may have imagined that after licking some Amazonian toads.

More to the point though, I think BR just doesn't rate him.

Agree0 Disagree0

He makes great runs but I don't know if he has an assist from an actual cross or short pass in his time at lfc. As one other poster pointed out, he has a knack for doing his own thing. And by knack I mean he does it all the time. I am still surprised Carra never came to blows with him on the pitch

Agree0 Disagree0

1. BR doesn't rate him
2. Teammates say he doesn't follow instruction
3. Inconsistent across his time with club
4. Now has an injury that will allegedly persist
5. Best season was without him
6. Two years on contract hence decision time
7. We won't keep high wage earners with a resale value who will mostly sit on the bench

Perm any 3 from that list for your answer!

Agree0 Disagree0

Anfieldboy has it pretty much sewn up there. I'd imagine Rodgers is thinking he'll sign a 1st choice and backup we'll have enough cover between Flanagan, Johnson and Brad Smith if we had a lot of injuries.

Just a bit of banter, but seeing the 20-25 m price for lallana thought of an alternative set of targets (rough guess on prices etc):

In
Tello 8m
Kono 12m
Can 10m (if Lucas goes)

Out:
Assaidi 6m
Aspas 5m
Reina 5m
Enrique 6m
Kelly 5m (like the lad but always injured)
Coady 2m
Robinson 1m
Johnson 2-3m

Loan:
Ibe
Wisdom
Few others

Then use majority of transfer funs in quality fullbacks (Moreno, rojo, siquelme ( however it's spelt!)) and dunno which RB. Then if agger or skrtel go buy a quality CB. If both go play ilori more. Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can certainly see the below going.

J. Reina
J. Robinson.
D. Agger.
S. Coates.
O. Assiaidi.
C. Coady.
I. Aspas.

Depending on arrivals the below could also go.

B. Jones.
J. Enrique.
M. Skrtle.
K. Toure.
A. Wisdom.
Lucas.
G. Johnson.
L. Alberto.
F. Borini.

Out of all of them only 5 played regularly last season. Another 4 a handful of games and the rest none at all or loaned out.

Hi Eds, you all undoubtably have an extensive knowledge of the inner workings of a transfer deal so if anyone could answer this question I'm hoping you will.

What exactly is a "Cheeky Bid"?!
A lot of people on here seem to ask will Liverpool put a cheeky bid in for x, y or z.
What's the difference between a normal transfer bid and a cheeky bid?

Does Ian Ayre get a leg up so he can reach the photocopier and fax a copy of his hole to any prospective club?

Your insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - A "cheeky bid" seems to be something that only applies to Liverpool. It is meaningless in the real world.}

28 May 2014 19:57:10
A great man once said, "A cheeky bid is usually £5 million less than what Everton offer, and a signed Heskey shirt."

Agree0 Disagree0

When we do make a cheeky bid do we receive a cheeky knock back or a straight FSG Off? lol

Agree0 Disagree0

28 May 2014 20:24:30
Thanks Eds. This is the best thread of the day.

Agree0 Disagree0

A cheeky bid is paying a higher fee, if we win the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe it's when we get the two Romanian twin sisters Gabriela and Monica to present the bid via a song and dance routine in the hope it swings the deal. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

£40000001 for Suarez was a cheeky bid. It was dealt with in an appropriate manner.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It was a sensible bid after the £40M was rejected on a terminology issue. Suarez wanted out and felt he was let down badly by the club. Why push it?}

We are the cheeky reds, we are the cheeky reds, here is our cheeky bid, here is our cheeky bid. Haha

Agree0 Disagree0

A cheeky bid is essentially our opening bid these days - low and generally rejected. I wonder if the fans who suggest "cheeky bids" are also the same fans who criticise the club for how we approach transfers?

Do you know who BR wants for partnering Sakho? Daily Express reports that we are fighting a battle with Utd for Dante. Didn't he sign a new contract recently?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - He has the choice of Toure, Skrtel, Kelly, Coates, Agger, Coady, Wisdom, Ilori, McLaughlin or Sama right now (apologies if I missed any one). Dejan Lovren, Marcos Rojo, Hector Moreno and perhaps Hinteregger and Caulker have been looked at with a verbal offer being made for Lovren. He needs to clear the decks a bit.}

28 May 2014 18:38:29
Fighting a battle?. Hector vs Archilles

Agree0 Disagree0

McLaughlin is a RB and is more comfortable as a Right midfielder than a CB.

Sama is no longer at the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lovren & Sakho would be solid.

Johnson (unless sb makes an offer), Wisdom, Kelly: Lovren, Ilori: Sakho, Toure: Moreno, Flanagan.

Skrtel, Coates, Agger & Coady out.

I hope that if Rodgers wants Lallana then the club can seal the deal before we miss out - this spurs chat is sounding too familiar. The idea of an England midfield lining up in red next season was sitting very comfortably with me. Whoever BR wants, let's hope we can act positively to hit our transfer targets - there's no point offering the extra incentive of Champions League if we can't complete a deal.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Liverpool won't pay for lallana
You have already seen in previous windows how slow Liverpool are to act
Then their aim is to go for alternatives, hence players who will struggle at the start of the season and end up on the bench the whole time
I guarantee spurs will make do on their targets quickly and if it is lallana or konoplyanka it's already over before lfc started

And if u don't agree with my comment which is fine. U have already seen lfc in action in past windows and how people from clubs say lfc offer low prices and take too long in the buying process

Agree0 Disagree0

At least players aren't rejecting us left, right and centre like they are you guy's though nobster.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with lobster. We really need to change our approach to transfers, especially towards our prime targets who will significantly improve the squad.

We need quality, if that means only affording 2 players then so be it.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 May 2014 19:51:26
red lobster, the reason spurs managed to sort their transfers out relatively quickly last summer was because of the Bale money and their willingness to pay the asking price (or close), on their targets. On reflection, it would appear the many of those prices were inflated as they have not set the league alight, barring possibly Eriksen. Remind me of where we and Spurs finished in the league this season again. IMO Spurs blew most of it instead of negotiating the best deal for the club. As a Liverpool fan, yes it is at times frustrating but we simply cannot afford to do business like that anymore as we have in the past, we have to try and get value for money. The signings we have made that have perhaps not been as successful, will not likely be costly ones as we should recoup most, if not all, or more than we paid out, unlike our some of our past blunders in the transfer market. I doubt the same could be said of Spurs. If the price being asked for Lallana is not something we are willing to pay and we see it as being overpriced, we will look to negotiate, there is always going to be a danger as Ed002 has pointed out that we will risk peeing off the selling club by offering a ridiculously low amount but, those sorts of negotiations take time. If in the mean time someone comes in and offers the asking price, fair play to Southampton and we move on. Meanwhile we will (and should), consider our options for alternatives that would be more cost effective for any given role and also allow us to use our budget to strengthen other areas of the team. It is all about what is best for Liverpool long term, a tricky balance at times, but certainly not one where we just pay whatever is being asked for every player Brendan would like in his team just to get them in early in the window.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 May 2014 20:25:32
We ll still finish above spurs.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 May 2014 22:02:03
Maybe just 15 points ahead Manchester United this season might scrape into top 3 with that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Brucelee is right. We will not just pay the asking price just to please some fickle fans. Nobody negotiates that way otherwise you`ll be shafted everytime and go bankrupt in a week. The Eds have repeatedly said that we`re losing serious money everyday BUT obviously, no one seems to care about that as long as we "just pay the asking price". We will offer what we think is right and if that`s ot enough then they can keep him and we move on to other targets. I think if we have 25m to spend on any type of forward, it should be Alexis Sanchez. He`s potential is enormous and can play anywhere along the front line and on either wing. He`s just a beast.

Agree0 Disagree0

Red Nobster,

LFC won't OVERPAY for Lallana and I have no problems with it.

Hi Eds
Just a few questions. (a) I'm Hearing a lot of rumours about Liverpool wanting Clyne. Do you see the mover happening? (b) Do you see Liverpool turning to Shaqiri and going away from Lallana? (c) Apparantly Liverpool have entered talks with Ashley Cole to sign for free. Is this true? (d) And finally, do we still see Moreno as one of our top targets?

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - (a) I assume this is Twitter. (b) I have explained the situation with both of these repeatedly - try the search engine. (c) I assume Twitter again - has Liverpool's team of roving negotiators made it to California then? (d) Hector Moreno seems to no longer be of interest to Liverpool.}

28 May 2014 17:06:49
Ed002

Would like to hear your thoughts on Liverpool/Ian Ayre's approach to the transfer business.

The ridiculously derisory, unacceptable bids, penny pinching and dilly dallying.
Dempsey, Mkhitaryan, Salah, Konoplyanka are all typical examples.
Now you've also informed of us of "unacceptable" verbal offer made for Lovren.

And just right now we are dilly dallying around the Lallana issue. Southampton has quoted us a price. Either we intend meeting it or we don't. Either way, there must be a position: walk away, or pay it if we pay it, over and done with.

Once it was clear that Southampton weren't going to budge on Shaw, Chelsea moved on to look elsewhere. Decisive. Why do we waste considerable time "haggling" but eventually agree to the asking price. only to find though that it's too late?

Ed002, I really would like to hear your take on this. Especially the ridiculously low bids. How do selling clubs take to LFC/Arye's conduct? Does it have the effect of making selling clubs less inclined to deal with us?
Or is our approach actually common practice?

Cheers mate

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Firstly, I don't know Ian Ayre at all so I will try and stick to what I know to be correct rather than drop in to conjecture and supposition.

However, I can answer for each of the players you mention: (a) Liverpool were accused of tapping up Clint Dempsey which is why Mr Werner and Mr Ayre issued apologies to Fulham in order to have them withdraw their complaint to the FA. A transfer was not going to happen. (b) Mkhitaryan was never going to happen due to the price being too high and Shakhtar wanting a single payment. It would have been dependent on the sale of Suarez. (c) As for Salah, the club's valuation of the player was miles away from what Basal would consider acceptable - hence there being no negotiation. This was made worse by Brendan Rodgers saying that they were not sure if the player was good enough for England and that is why they would not offer anything like a reasonable amount of money on such a high-risk purchase. The player and his club both, quite rightly, found this offensive. (d) The Dnipro owner was always likely to want to keep Konoplyanka - you cannot blame Mr Ayre for not being able to resolve that.

I am pretty sure that I explained all of these at the time.

You can add to that: (e) Willian was a player Liverpool were interested in, but they did not offer enough money to buy him. (f) Costa was not going to happen without selling Suarez - because of the money and because he was seen as his replacement. (g) Sigurdsson decided to sign for Spurs instead of Liverpool because he felt they had a better chance of giving him Champions League football - he was wrong - but how many still lust after him?

And don't forget the players he has done the deals for since Brendan Rodgers arrived: Daniel Sturridge, Kolo Touré, Tiago Ilori, Joe Allen, Fabio Borini, Mamadou Sakho, Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas, Simon Mignolet, Coutinho, Oussama Assaidi, Samed Yesil and the loans of Victor Moses, Nuri Sahin and Aly Cissokho. I appreciate many of these players are not favourites of the fans, but you cannot blame Ian Ayre for that - he doesn't pick the players but he did get the transfers done.

You are right about the seeming indecision in going in with a very low offer and not following it up - it will not help anyone and it can make it difficult to negotiate sensibly later. You mention Chelsea and typically they are very good - perhaps assisted by their chief negotiator being many fold better looking than Ian Ayres. However, they too have had notable failures over prolonged negotiations for players - Falcao, Cavani, Isco and Reus spring to mind.

As for how selling clubs feel about low bids, generally they see it as simply wasting their time and it makes it more difficult to do business between the clubs in the future. I am also aware that a number of senior personnel within EPL clubs found what John Henry said about an Arsenal bid in public last year to be very disrespectful.

Liverpool perhaps need to become a little more humble in the way they do their transfer business.}

Ed002. Magnificent.That part was just brilliant.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 May 2014 19:50:23
The only thing to add to that reply, and as I think Ed002 highlighted in the part about Sigurdsson, is that Ayre is not only competing with financial constraints, he was also competing against a tarnished reputation of our club. Hardly anyone outside of the LFC family felt we had what it took to get in the CL this season, it's quite hard to put together a financially & competitively attractive package when you've been out of CL football for 4 odd years.

I think in fairness to IA people don't realise that the deals we've completed have been generally good: Sturridge; Coutinho; Sakho; Ilori; these will all go on to be top top players. Konoplyanka was basically signed, but their owner didn't want to sell full stop. What could he do about that? We met their price & submitted everything with amicable time, but their owner wouldn't budge. Willian and Mkhitaryan were overpriced, if we had signed Willian would sterling have found the kind of form he has this year? Mkhitaryan has had a mediocre year in Germany. Just calm down with the hate.

I agree with ed in that waiting for rivals to bid is a stupid policy but it's early days. Lallana was always going to be expensive as shfc, relatively speaking, don't need the money.

Are you the chief negotiator for Chelsea Ed002?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Marina Granovskaia is marginally cuter than me.}

28 May 2014 20:51:25
Ed002

Thanks mate, very illuminating that. You are right about many things. And sure enough, Ayre has had his fair share of success in some deals (Sturridge, Coutinho, Sakho etc) and can't be completely crucified.

But the big concern for me remains our general attitude to transfer business and, of course, the indecision and dilly dallying.
Other piss off selling clubs and making a laughing stock of us, I don't know what purpose it serves.
And I think this is what irks many fans. not that they have anything against Mr Ayre.

I personally am off the view that Mr Ayre remains the most least suitable man for this position.
We crying out for proper leadership.
And you spot on again Ed, there's a need for greater humility and tact in the club.

Ayre am most concerned about. His very public "different squad next season" remarks prior to the (crucial) Chelsea game demonstrated the spread of the man's tact. They may have slipped under the radar, but they were certainly damaging. and, quite frankly, stupid.

Knowing our history, folk would do well not to set too high their expectations for this summer. Come September 1st may likely be in a meltdown after yet ANOTHER transfer window of abject failure.

Lastly Ed, do Chelsea have a similar structure, with someone in a position similar to Ayre's heading transfers/negotiations?
They tend to handle matters better, with more favorable outcomes than not.
Spurs also, are not too bad themselves in their approach.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea has a number of folks who are authorised to deal with such matters but primarily responsibility falls to Marina Granovskaia.}

A good post and reply from ed.but I always feel we get our pants pulled down in the transfer market buying and selling.I would live a true European legend to spearhead our transfer dealing instead of Ayre popping along on his bike

Hello all Reds, had a debate with a few fans at work and the subject was, what can we class as progress next season? finishing second this season was a fantastic effort that succeeded all our expectations, however if we don't win it next year you can't just say we have not progressed. The general hope was to get top 4 again and to progress far in all cup comps hopefully winning one, but would just finishing top 4 again be seen as success?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Top 3 with cl quarters
although as long as we are in the top 4 I would be happy

Agree0 Disagree0

I think finishing top 4 again, after having the CL to play in as well would be a good start. Progressing throught the group stages in the CL would also be a good target to aim for. I would be happy if we managed these. Also, some progress on reducing the loss (which I know CL will assist with) whilst keeping the stadium development moving. Not too much to ask is it?

Barcelona have agreed a deal with Real Sociedad goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, according to El Diario Vasco.

Bravo has reportedly rejected an offer from Liverpool in order to play for Barcelona, who have already signed keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Barcelona are now due to hold talks with Sociedad regarding a fee for Bravo, who has a €30million (£24.4m) release clause in his contract.

this is for everyone.
which left back would you like to see lfc sign and why?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Out of all the left backs available Coentrao
out of those we have interest in Rojo

Agree0 Disagree0

Realistically, Fabio Coentrao would have been attainable.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I'd say Ryan Bertrand.

1) He's had premier league experience
2) He's desperate to succeed and I believe the only reason he hasn't yet is because he's not had the chance.
3) Sounds like he's someone willing to learn so chances are Rodgers could get him playing in the way he wants
4) At the age of 24 he is neither too young nor too old
5) Would provide further pace and an engine on the left flank and would suit our style of play especially if we want to play with a high line
6) Wouldn't cost a bomb and would have resale value
7) calm in possession, looks up for a pass rather then head down and dribble a la Enrique.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He has succeeded to some extent, he is an England international and has EPL and Champion's League winners medals.}

I like Rojo. Nothing to back that statement. Just a 5 min youtube clip.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we're talking fantasy then Alaba in real life Rojo

Agree0 Disagree0

I think alberto moreno. good solid lb. young. could be lfc left back for 10 years

Agree0 Disagree0

28 May 2014 13:51:47
AZ, that's a fantastic assessment. He is not a fan's choice, But He has some merits. such as EPL expereince, He has got pace and wouldn't cost much, comapred to others we are either linked or would want us to buy.
I would certainly consider him.
Ed002. Did we had an interest in him in Jan, and he snubbes us to join Villa?

Agree0 Disagree0

Finally someone appreciating Bertrand as a player! Good points about him. He's young and English with experience of the EPL with a low price, seems perfect.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 May 2014 14:34:57
I would have taken him on loan in Jan or last summer instead of Cissokho

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - That was not possible.}

He's not the right player for us. We need to sign a world class LB if we are to challenge for the league. The only other LBs I've seen play who we may be interested are Moreno, Erkin & Coentrao. I'd be happy with either of them although Rojo is highly thought of. Bertrand has a PL & CL medal, true, but so does John O'Shea. We need a CB :D

Agree0 Disagree0

Bertrand for me, I assume most people haven't seen enough of Rojo (I certainly haven't to make a real judgement).

I still can't figure out from reports whether he is actually a left back or centre back!

Agree0 Disagree0

I would easily pick marcelo or the barcelona guy whos name slipped my mind

Hey Ed002, do u personally see Ryan Bertrand as being good enough for LFC as first choice LB? I have never really seen him play (missed the 2012 UCL final), or rather noticed him during games, but could u just mention his strengths and weaknesses and whether BR could improve him as a player? Personally, I would prefer Rojo or Coentrao but considering the financial restrictions within the club, I can understand why BR may look to Bertrand.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He is seen as a good player by those that know him and that includes Brendan Rodgers. I cannot say whether or not he is good enough for the Liverpool first team - that is subjective to say the least.}

I'd consider Bertrand a very disappointing signing. Yes he could be good enough to make our team but that's only because LB is arguably our weakest position. If he was signed and started then in 1-2 years I could see that LB may not be spoken about as a problem position but I certainly couldn't see people speaking about us having a very good LB or being strong there, etc.

Hi Eds,

I have used the search function and have not really found an answer. what are the stumbling blocks in regards to adam lallana? Is it just the valuation of the player being £25 million? or is there any other obstacles? I am just wondering as I have a feeling that Liverpool are going to miss out on him. Also is Loic Remy just trying to create interest himself or is there genuine interest in him? IMO I don't think he is what we need!
Thanks in advance.
Hope to hear back!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Putting aside your guess at a price, Liverpool's offer was deemed to be totally unacceptable to Southampton.

Remy may well move on this summer and QPR know they will struggle to keep him. Arsenal is perhaps an option. Interest from other clubs, such as Liverpool, at this time would seem to be no more than speculative.}

We keep reading about Liverpool missing out on players when it is really a case of players missing out on Liverpool. It may well happen but as yet none of the players that Liverpool have 'missed out' on have set the world alight. There will be new players coming in so let us wait and see who they are. We are going in the right direction and need players who will strengthen the squad. I don't know who they will be but I am sure that everything will be clear before the end of August.

This is a question for Ed002, your opinion of Suarez is well known, I have seen you accept that he is a very talented individual on the pitch but has personality traits that are undesirable on a person in the public eye.

This is in no way putting you on the spot, it's more to have your opinion on what an individual can do after making the mistakes they have made for all too see, to possibly redeem themselves.

I detest Joey Barton for example, some of the things that he has done make him a poor excuse of a human being to put it politely and I can completely see why some people would view Suarez the way I view Joey. My biggest problem with him is he doesn't tend to accept any responsibiltiy and there doesn't seem to be any remorse on his part. I don't think there's anything he could do to change my opinion of him now and I was wondering if your feelings for Suarez are the same or do you think he could change people views on him by continuing to act as he has this season, head down, not as controversial as he has been, staying out of the media spotlight with pointless interviews (although as with all sports starts, the questioning from journalists do lead to dumb answers sometimes). I guess my main question is, when a sports star such as Barton, Suarez, etc, who have a huge divide between people who love them and people who hate them, is it a lost cause to try and win back support if they wanted it or is there always the possibility.

I doubt many of them care what others think of them, Suarez, Cantona, Barton, they are all of the mentality that if you don't like me I really don't care, but others who are younger and already making the same mistakes may let this affect them more and just curious to hear peoples opinions as to how much has to happen before they are given up on by everyone except for their team?

Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not so sure that Suarez has the viewpoint of not caring what others think of him. Putting aside the stupidity of what he did with the lawsuit against FC Groningen and the strike threat at Ajax, there have been controversies wherever he has been. And putting aside the diving and minor infringements, the Ivanovic, Bakkal and Evra incidents will remain a stain he will struggle to remove.

The other issue, and one I hope has been resolved, is his talking to the press and the time spent very publically trying to get away from Liverpool. This does seem to have been largely resolved - at least for now. He has certainly put considerable effort in to keeping his head down, as you say, this season and I am sure that he wants to play in the Champions League with Liverpool next season.

When he eventually leaves there will of course be tears for the fans and his team mates and no doubt a dig at the FA who "won't give him a fair hearing". Latins tend to cry very easily.}

A much better and fairer assessment ed than previous replies to this topic. I totally agree with you. Let's put this one to bed now me thinks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the response ed, I understand where you're coming from, there are certain actions/mistakes that no matter how much you try to change will always be associated with you years after and Suarez will have a lot of these follow him.

I read a lot of younger players coming through the youth teams of different teams are coming through with bad attitudes, laziness, etc and these tend to escalate into more problems as they progress, it's like they court the controversy to make them more interesting. Do you think that the high wages that potential talents are receiving from the age of 16 upwards contribute to the attitude or just that it's a different era nowadays and kids are growing up with more attitude anyway (my 15 year old daughter would kill me for that one)

thanks,

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Try the search function.}

Ok can do, really my question was whether Skrtel & Agger could both be sold?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - For now assume Skrtel stays.}

Imo Skrtel needs to go and probably BR may feel the same, hence the interest in Lovren. Lovren and Sakho will be first choice with Ilori and Toure as backup. Skrtel's simply a mistake waiting to happen and can't play in a high line defensive system because he has no pace whatsoever.

Agree0 Disagree0

O & he's not his 'fave' but was preffered to Toure after his nervous gaffs, so only through lack of options. Ofcourse mate, I did. Assaidi was bought at 3 mill and had nothing. Infact No impact. and selling him at 7 mill is ridiculous.
llori was bought at 7 mill and was sent out for a loan and would be going again for another loan. But If we were to sell him. We won't recieve 14 mill for him. No chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

I genuinely don't want you to think i'm having a dig at you but don't understand your logic. what is the problem with asking for more than assaidi is worth? we start a 7mil and end up getting 5mil perhaps. if we ask for 5mil they will try and knock us down further.

take chelsea as an example. they bought kevin de bruyne for less than 10mil I think, he barely touches a ball fo chelsea but they get 17mil for him.

david luiz, clearly a man not in jose's plans but they manage to get 50mil for the guy.

Two points to consider.

1. Assaidi isn't a world beater. We bought him at 3.5 mill (the whole world knows it).
2. Stoke is the only club who has shown some interest, They are not chelsea or City, As they would cough up what we ask them to.

What If stoke walks away and find another alternative at 5 mill to 7 mill?. Players Such as Sinclair or any decent wingers. Moses. which fits in their budget.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Stoke is not the only club to show an interest.}

Harry Scousser,

Assaidi may not be a world beater, but he is a player Stoke, among others want. They need to meet our demands if they want the player or atleast come close to it.

Your last paragraph is conditional. They can walk away any time they want. Why aren't they going for Sinclair or Moses then? Maybe because they rate Assaidi better? Also, you have no idea how much Moses or Sinclair would cost. So, stop quoting numbers.

So Tell me how much Moses who has been below average with Liverpool over a loan deal and Sinclair, who last kicked the ball in 2012 would cost?
15 mill right?. They have a settled player in Assaidi. He has started in 19 games and scored 4 goals (2 in league cup). They also aware of the price of the player and knows very well He isn't wanted at Liverpool.

I am convinced by you that we might get 7 mill for him. End of the story

Again, I'm not sure some people know how twitter works. The 'reports' came from TZ. A link to the Shaqiri article on their website was then tweeted, retweeted and talked about by a bunch of people.

When the articles from the English press usually come online at 22:30-23:00, they too are posted on twitter. If Tony Barrett wrote something it came from Tony Barrett despite the fact the link to the article happens to be on twitter.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It is probably because LFC rate other players (Lallana, Shaqiri) higher than Konoplynaka.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 May 2014 12:41:12
Jordon IBE would be going out for a loan.
We had 2 wingers last season Moses and sterling, Suarez being a regualr starter.
Moses would be off and Ibe would be going for another loan. that leaves us with sterling either on wings or at the tip in diamond.
One is essential, Two would be excellent.

Agree0 Disagree0

It'd be to expensive to get Lallana for 25 million for sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry I would rather see Ibe develop at the club than somewhere else. i'm convinced he can have a similar impact on the team as Sterling did this season. Even if he did go out on loan, where would he play the season after nest if we already have Kono, Shaqiri and Sterling at the club? don't want a Courtois situation brewing at the club. I would only go for one winger, preferably Shaqiri and use the rest of the money to buy a top notch CB and LB.

Therz no doubt on Ibe's potential. He would be bigger than Sterling in couple of years time.
Sterling was a calucalted gambel by BR last summer. Neither He nor the player himself thought, It would be such a successful one.
Every Top clubs have 3-4 wingers with them or Strikers. And most of them are expereinced at this stage.
CB would only come, Once we offload someone.
LB and CM would come in regardless.

Hi eds
Saw a list of Southampton players who may be subject to offers.
Have any teams shown an interest in clyne, chambers or ward prowse?
These are some of the best players in my opinion
Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Yes but not Liverpool. Try asking on the Southampton page.}

Cheers eds just wondered as felt these were the kind of players that would suit our system and style of play, as well as fitting in with the profile of being young and likely to improve and increase their value as well as playing positions we need to strengthen
Cheers

Hello ED001, hope you're well mate - we've been linked with a ton of players (like always) and I was wondering who actually stands out in your opinion?

Lallana for me is obvious quality, and the fact that he relies purely on his amazing technique and not pace means he has quite a few years in him yet, so i'm not worried about his age at all - but the £30M pricetag being touted seems excessive for a player who is not proven at the very top level.

Shaqiri is one I like, still only 22 and Bayern supposedly want rid - I would love to see him at Liverpool

Sanchez would also be boss

Wouldn't want us to go anywhere near Remy, Fabregas, Mascherano or Ashley Cole though.

Emre Can, Rojo and Konoplyanka are also being linked with us - but i've never seen them play, wondering if you have? or if you know anyone who rates them?

Finally, it seems very possible that Lucas and Daniel Agger could leave Liverpool Football Club this summer, if they do, for me it will be a very very sad summer, two of my favourite players (get Agger 5 on the back of most my Liverpool tops) and I honestly feel if they avoided injury that they would be amongst the best centrebacks and holding midfielders in the world (although I maintain that Agger is still our best centreback), wondering how you feel about them leaving?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I am not convinced by Shaqiri, though I haven't had a chance to watch him since he moved to Bayern, so he could have improved during his time there. I would be ambivalent about him.

Lallana is clearly an excellent player, but the pricetag does seem excessive, I would rather we prioritised other areas first, ie left back, which should be the number one priority.

Sanchez I love, his end product can be inconsistent, but he has that little bit of magic in him that can make the difference in tight games. My only issue with him, is whether he would have the appetite to get stuck in when things are going against us and fight for a win. Though it must be said, he has shown a real desire to stand his ground and fight at Barca, despite having Messi against him. That does suggest he has the right attitude.

I am with you on the next four. Remy and Fabregas just aren't good enough to be regular starters, so would cost far too much for the role they would have. Remy would be, at best, third choice, though I am not convinced he is good enough for that, he lacks a good enough touch and his attitude is pathetic. Fabregas just wouldn't be what we need, he lacks the pace for a fast break, the vision for a deep lying role and the defensive discipline and positioning required for a normal midfield role. Mash should be left to rot, end of. I can't say what I actually think of him as it would be unprintable. His wages are too high anyway. Cole is over the hill now, it would be pointless taking him for a couple of years, the cost would be too much. He was a fantastic player, but his time has gone.

I don't know enough about the next 3 myself, but I am repeatedly told that Konoplyanka would be a fantastic signing in the Prem and is going to be a special player. A friend of mine has scouted him a number of times and really can't speak highly enough of him. I do fear we missed the boat there though.

I love Lucas and Agger. I would be gutted if either went, let alone both. I do see that injuries are a definite problem with Agger and a decent offer would have to be accepted. We have Sakho to take his place in the team and Dagger does lack a bit of pace, which is needed in our system. Lucas is in a similar position, injuries are starting to take their toll, but we don't have a lot of players to cover his position. We need to replace him before we can let him go, or we run the risk of running out of steam at the end of the season again next season.}

Just a wild guess ED, now that Pochettino is at Spurs and wants to bring in Lallana (just saying) will there be possibility of Eriksen to be sold?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - and how would anyone know that? It would seem unlikely that he would want to remove their one shining light from last season.}

I see all this talk of sanchez
but ed 001 would we even be interested in him without suarez going the other way given his price tqg
and we had some interest in Lucas moura have we dropped it or is he plan x?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - interested yes, but unlikely to make any kind of move for him in that situation.
I believe, though this is more Ed002's area, that PSG are looking for his value to increase in the World Cup before selling. Last I heard they were expecting him to be in the Brazil squad, so not looking to sell immediately. Not sure if the Brazil squad has been announced yet or not, bit out of touch with the World Cup squad due to spending time with my daughter over the last week or so.}

And ed looks like br os looking to sell Lucas thus the interest in can

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - actually Rodgers would like to add Can to the squad regardless of what happens with players leaving.}

Maybe am being a bit paranoid but shouldn't we be targeting a left back first?flanno did the job but he is not the long term solution rojo perhaps as a lot of people have been talking good things about him
we can target the midfielders and attackers later
what do you think ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It doesn't work like that.}

We need to get the players when they are available. If we wait, the players would be gone or would have changed their mind.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lucas Moura is on the standby list for Brazil Ed001, didn't quite make the squad. Just out of interest, would they be looking to retain most of what they spent on him? (No need to include actual figures don't worry!). Cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - PSG would like to recover as much money as possible form the players they are looking to sell in order to balance the books as much as they can. As such, they will look to recover as close to what they spent on Lucas Moura.}

This is a top post and one I completely agree with. I agree Agger is still our best defender but considering his injuries and lack of pace, perhaps he doesn't suit our system hands down. We look to play with pace all over the pitch. I would be gutted if he left but if BR doesn't see him as the right man for our system then I trust the manager and wish Dagger the best in everything.

I can't see 30M in Lallana - I'd be looking at paying around 18M with 3-5M in addons depending on performance (not that I know anything about footballing financing per se - but playing with ball park figures based on reports).

I've only seen clips of Konoplyanka but I would love to see him in a Liverpool jersey next season. And at the 'considered' price he would surely be a steal?!

Haven't seen enough of Sanchez since his move to Barce but he looked great at his previous club in Italy.

Agree on players you stated 'you wouldn't go near'.

I know nothing of Can and Shaqiri as I never watch German football apart from in Europe - are these players highly regarded?

ED can you comment on Can's playing ability? (I.E - Position/performance and if possible. talent?)

Cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I have no interest in commenting on the subjectivity of his abilities.}

No worries ED I figured as much - I was hoping another poster might be as bold to offer their opinion.

Cheers.

to all the fans who are going on about couthino

before he was injured he was playing great everyone on here was raving about him, now i'm hearing he's not pulling his weight, he does not track back he goes missing in games, he did not go missing against man city with his goal, oh yea BR moved him up to a more attacking role that's why he was in the box and played better, plus its a big ask for a 20 year old to come back from injury and play is socks off in our league, did some of you forget how hard it is for older players to adapt to the prem, if its hard for the more experienced and older players imagine how hard it was for him plus with his age I don't blame him for being tired at the end of the season, maybe next season he will get back to the way he was before his injury then you can all praise him again until he gets tired towards the end of the season, imagine him when he is 22 or 23, he will be one of our best players, some time I can't believe some fans on here having a go at some one who is that good for a 20 year old and he does win the ball a lot of the time, let's hope BR moves him more forward so he can show his talents off, and let's give him a chance to shine again

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm with you, don't know why anyone would be complaining about Coutinho.

Was fantastic before Ashley Williams stuck his leg out. He also improved his defensive skills in the second half of the season. He can be hot and cold at times, but he is young. I think he just needs to do some weights in the gym top and bottom, to give him a bit more strength. That just takes time. The kid is class.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think anyone is downing Coutinho. He's a top top talent. If he improves his goal scoring he's going to be the real deal one day. He just needs time, and doesn't need to start week in week out.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post, Mikey! Like one of the eds said, some of our fans just like trashing the players and have their easy targets. At the end of every season, Lfc must ship out everyone and make 15 new signings just to please them. Now, it`s Couts turn to get the business from these clueless "fans" saying he can`t do this nor that. They have conveniently forgotten that he`s just a kid who`s still learning the game and adapting to the prem league and w/o whose help we wouldn`t have made the progress we`ve made over the last 18 months. Couts isn`t going anywhere and these haters can go fly a kite. #Pathetic!

Agree0 Disagree0

Tinho is going to be great. Why anybody would speak bad about a talent like that I'll never know, inconsistent maybe, but he's just a young kid. He's a shy lad but once he gets the confidence to run games himself, he'll be one of the best in the world

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely agree. I cannot believe some guys want him sold.

Agree0 Disagree0

My opinion on Coutinho is that he is brilliant but inconsistent.
Which is to be expected for a 21yr old.
He will continue to improve and that is frightening because on his day he is unplayable.
He just needs to have more of "his days|"

Agree0 Disagree0

Coutinho is a magician
The way he manages to thread through balls I have not seen anybody else do in my short stint as w football fan
he maybe inconsistent but he is young

No one wants Countinho to be sold. But he would face some stiff competition next seaosn and won't warrant a regular starting berth.

Agree0 Disagree0

You need to buy glasses if you think no one wants Coutniho sold.

If he does well, he will warrant a regular starting berth. try not to be an arse all the time will you.

There are and were many who wants Suarez to be sold? (Not related to performance, But his offfield Issues). what's your opinon?.
If you say No, then you might also need the same glasses

Agree0 Disagree0

This thread has nothing to do with Suarez. This thread was about Coutinho, and how his performances weren't consistent enough. Again, try not to be arse.

Ps: You have a very unhealthy interest in Suarez.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's my favourite player to watch in Liverpool shirt in the current squad and I can see him going on to be world class in a few years

Agree0 Disagree0

It's a sad sad day when fans seem to think that it's ok to be slating players, young/old etc. the lad has obviously done his best in a 'pool jersey since he arrived from Inter. IMO his best position is behind the front 3. When we played 4-3-3 during the season & were ripping into teams 4, 5, 6 etc he was at the heart of it. His influence wained a small bit when we went to the 4-1-2-1-2 diamond formation. And coupled with his injury his form was bound to drop! I actually prefer the 4-3-3 formation myself, we just seem way more fluid in attack & our fullbacks weren't as exposed

I'm sure we could get Boateng and Shaqiri for £40m, better than Lallana and Lovren. yes/no?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't know to be honest, I remember Boateng had an up and down time here before getting sold. Shaquiri was a player I liked. Haven't seen him play in about 2 years. He is definitely the sort of player Rodgers will make a world beater.

Agree0 Disagree0

The logic of that arguement is impeccable, apart from the fact that the 2 players Liverpool are pursuing are Lovren and Lallana. But I do agree that I'd prefer them 2.

Agree0 Disagree0

No. Ridiculous. Boateng is pure rubbish.

Agree0 Disagree0

Boateng is useless imo. I would not want the club to sign any of Bayern's centre halves. The whole bunch of them have no pace or positional sense whatsoever. Might as well stick with Skrtel. Its the likes of Martinez, Schweinsteiger and Lahm who make them look good. Lovren would be my choice because he has premier league experience and has shown he can excel in a team playing a high line. Just bcoz he plays for Southampton does not make him an inferior player.
