Considering that Manchester City went out of Old Trafford and White Hart Lane 1-6 and 1-5 respectively, Liverpool should be very happy that they got a point and not zero.

Aye, whatever.
The Real KB

Thats true, Man-City have an unbelievable squad, they made changes from the mid-week Champions League game so i'm not buying into the excuse that Man-City players were tired (just what Man-City supporters are saying anyway)... Thought we played very well but the danger isn't the performances against the top sides, its our performances against teams like Swansea, Norwich, Stoke etc... We should be beating these teams easily but we miss guilt edge chances too often, dont get me wrong i think Suarez makes chances out of nothing in games but when it comes to finishing i think he can improve and when he does he'll be the complete striker

The real danger for us is this , we dont convert enough of our chances in front of goal , downing on sun as a example , if he puts it on target both times , chance of a goal or the keeper spilling it to a lpool player , i was not joking when i said a extra training scession each day , on shooting and finishing alone for all the players.......we should have more points and to improve you need to work harder on things , i think the team are playing well this season overall , but this is a consern...........lfc

It's funny your mentioning this. Was sat on the kop on Sunday and during there 10/15 minutes shooting practice Downing didn't score once, and only managed to test Doni & Reina once or twice. Rest where off target. Even Lucas did better. Think the lad is under a lot of pressure and just needs to play his natural game and he'll perform a lot better.

Hey guys I am going to try and do a review of the big rumors throughout the January transfer window. Give my opinion and talk about what you guys feel about the potential rumor.

I'm not here to argue here's why. I moved from Liverpool to Canada when I was 16, been here 5 years now and I don't get to interact with a lot of people who know football. So I just like to listen to what people have to say about it. I won't argue, no keyboard warrior here. I don't have inside info. I try to gather information on where a source has come from.

So let's get straight too it. David Villa...dun dun duuuun. Possible? Potentially yes, potentially no. I have read on this site that with Liverpool's previous owners, they had big signings set up every summer just to pull out a the last second. That had to be more frustrating than being told you can't afford them. But one of those potential signings was rumored to be none other than David Villa. It would have made sense at the time, Rafa had a very Hispanic squad and Villa would have fit in right next to Torres. This is one place the rumor has come from but there is a bit more meat about this than just the previous link.

It has been mentioned that Messi and Villa are not the best mates..

"I do not have any problem with Villa and I am surprised at what has been said. I have a good relationship with him and with the rest of my team-mates." (Messi, 2011)

Obviously you could argue that he would not want to tell the press about any conflicts the two have with each other. But the rumors are flying that they just do not get on. Ibrahimovic is quoted in his book of saying that he was benched for Messi, but that is just because Messi is better?

David Villa has been on a poor run of form of recent leading Barca fans to believe he is past his best. It could be true, some players peak at different time in their careers, for example Michael Owen peaked from the age 16 - 21. Should we be looking at a player who is 30, not looking all that good on the pitch and would cost us close to 40 million?

No. I do not believe it would be wise, especially now that because everyone believes we paid 35 million for Carrol by choice. Lets face it Mike Ashley is a waste of space and was holding us to ransom, he knew Torres was going to Chelsea and he was more milking Chelsea than Liverpool. If Villa came, flopped which at his age adapting to a new league could take a whole year or two. Past his peak. Brilliant player and have a massive amount of respect for him.

What do you guys think? Worth the money? Is he still world class? Will it happen? How would he fit in with the squad?

I wouldn't bring him in. The money would be better spent elsewhere. Fantastic player but too old for us now.

MIKEY

Valid point. The age is the biggest issue. NESV have said that they want to bring in young talent. You could argue that Villa would be brilliant from a marketing perspective but not if he couldn't perform on the field.

I'd bring in Messi

cozinoz

Villa? Only for 4-5 million, and if he would be happy to act as a rotation player.
Both thins ain't valid.

Offer 15 for him.but podolski better value and rumour is 20m could secure him as year and a half only left on contract

---------------Team vs Chelsea:---------------------

-----------------------Reina-------------------------

---Kelly--------Carragher-------Coates---------Aurelio

---Kuyt--------Spearing---------Lucas-----------Maxi

----------------Carroll-----------Bellamy-------------

Subs: Doni, Flanagan, Agger, Adam, Downing, Henderson, Suarez.

I think we'll play:

Doni
Kelly-Carragher-Coates-Wilson
Flanagan-Spearing-Aurelio-Maxi
Bellamy-Carroll

Bellamy will not play.
I also have a feeling henderson will play instead of Lucas.

PITSILFC

I'd have two of silva, suso or eccelston on the bench

Have you seen Wilson at left back?

Its not a position he can play!

28 Nov 2011 23:29:05
Ed, What was your personal take on Henderson's performance vs Citeh, if you don't mind?

Chi-Paul {Ed002's Note - Henderson is a decent player and he played OK. Nothing special.}

Ed,

having watched it a 2nd time, when he got more involved after 25-30 mins we took momentum of the game. Not saying it was him as it was a great team performance but I think he is going to be a fine player when he settles and gets more comfortable.

Chi-Paul {Ed001's Note - I think he has the potential to become a great player personally.}

Were we watching the same game? He was piss poor, so many bad touches and wrong decisions. I give it to him that he is young and hopefully will improve but I dont think he should be starting , he hasn't earned it. Agger was very strong and committed, looks like the end of Carra as a starter. I wanted KK to take Hendo or Kuyt off push Johnson up and play Kelly at RB.

Our worst player on Sun was def not Hendo. Kuyt for me. Been really disappointed in him for a while now.

You need to look again mate. He wasn't as bad as you make out. That was our best 90 minutes of the season, and against the league leaders, and most expensive team ever in football. We won the midfield battle against their 5. It must be his turn for the daggers this week. Enrique was great in many aspects too yesterday but he made bigger mistakes than Jordan did.

Chi-Paul

Did YOU watch the game? He had ONE, count them, ONE poor touch. ONE. In 90 minutes of football. Oh, my. Haters are always gonna hate.

McSnuggles

Haters keep hating
Ravers keep raving
Dreamers keep dreaming

Hey that's good could be a song?

Any new on LFC and Ricky van Wolfswinkel?

Would havbe bought him last window if we wanted him. He went to Sporting.

A player we were linked with last summer who many people deemed "not good enough" that suddenly, when United is interested, we need to steal him before they do? I'm sure we don't want or need him.

McSnuggles

REINA

FLANNAGAN
ROBINSON
CARRAGHER
KELLY

SPEARING
ADAM
DOWNING

CARROLL
BELLAMY
MAXI

SUBS: SUAREZ/DONI/COADY/STERLING/COATES/KUYT/HENDERSON

Robinson is injured but Aurelio is available at left back... My team would be,
Doni
Flanagan Carragher Coates Aurelio
Sterling Spearing Coady Maxi
Bellamy
Carroll

Reina/Doni
Kelly - Carra - Coates - Aurelio
Spearing - Lucas
Bellamy - Kuyt - Maxi
Carroll

But what do I know, the King knows better than I do!

McSnuggles

I figure any of our players that do start on Tuesday that played on Sunday might only see a half of football, which is fine. Perhaps Lucas and Adam switching off half?

I DON'T KNOW. AHH I'M EXCITED

due to no fault of your own, you drew with us. and now you think your gonna finish above the likes of tottenham, arsenal, chelsea and even united?

cityhad!

Go away upstart were have you all been for 30 years bob paisleys skids

In fairness cityhad Man-City have an unbelievable squad but to gloat on a Liverpool page is just sad considering 2-3 years ago you didn't exist, thats the truth... Liverpool i feel are starting to gel now, we have a fairly settled starting 11, we have a good bench aswell, we've improved so much since the start of the season, unbeaten in 8/9 games, i cant see any reason why we cant make it into the top 4 "IF" we replicate performances like we did against Chelsea and Man-City.

Rocky

Love how this has 1 agree and 6 disagrees. 1-6...

Yea cos your goal had no element of luck at all. kompany missed the ball completely with his head and the ball could of gone anywhere of his shoulder

Was you not in division 2 a couple of years back. .anyway past ya bed time. Go sleep now.
Gaz b

We'ave come so far in two weeks yes two weeks ago these pages were alight with calls for the kings overthrow?

How fickle

Citeh idiot,we stopped you playing. And even anti LFC media all said we were unluckt not to beat you.Hysteria of teams getting results v you,is down to how much youve spent on top quality, granted.Learn to be magnanomous, remember where you were. You arrogant git

save this post as a word doc. as I can pretty much guarantee what will happen in the transfer window. Obviously if we revert to a 'plan B' then I cannot forsee that. but I can tell yo what 'plan A' is.

We are very closely looking at Luuk De Jong, Adam Johnson and Lucas Moura. The figures I have been told are £12m, £16m and £20m respectively. However, I have also been told that De Jong may be a target for the summer depending on interest from other clubs.

Have you heard anything to support this eds?
Thanks.
Master Orange. {Ed002's Note - Do you shake at a very high frequency when you think of these players?}

Kenny def wanted to discuss something with Mancini after the game....

Adam Johnson just signed a new long term contract at Citeh how now is he going to Liverpool?

28 Nov 2011 22:17:27
eds everyone talks about new signings....but what about our youth squad....dont we have any good striker/ cf who can make into first team ?? {Ed002's Note - Sure, Adam Morgan looks good for progression.}

Ed002,
How come you don't shoot the Man Utd posters down in flames about fantasy signings ?
They're at it day in, day out.
The Real KB {Ed002's Note - Actually I do if I am around. I am young, good looking and unbiased.}

Ed i'm sorry If you have answered this before but is Adam Morgan a goal poacher?I feel we need someone who is in the right place at the right time to poke it in. Cheers

Danny

{Ed002's Note - I don't know what a goal poacher is. Sorry.}

No problem mate

Danny

New type of eggs, Ed.

Adam Morgan has a lot of potential. Can't wait.

McSnuggles

Ed002 helpful as always

Goal poacher someone who poaches eggs in the goal area

Ok flippantcy hilarious.but fox in box, poacher, goal hanger,grab/point is man who knows where goal is.20-25 goal man reqd!

QUOTE "Sorry Bob but clem is the best keeper we ever had and brucie takes some beating Reina maybe the best in your time supporting mate but most of our trophys were won with them two in goal"

I grew up with Clemence in goal and then Grob had the really hard job of trying to replace him. It is only my opinion and of course with a keeper of Clem's ability there is no arguement over who is better, it's just my preference.

For the record i don't think Grob was anywhere near Clemence's level, but Reina is definitely up there. Clem takes some beating for that season where we only conceded 16 goals in 42 league games

As i said though there is no wrong answer for people who may say one or the other is the best!

Bob the Red

I understand your points mate but I also understands bob's. I've way I don't like comparing players and I think they are both legends and top players.Reina was terrific yesterday. He has fantastic reactions. like a cat

Danny

I personally thought you had done Clem a bit of a dis-service in your earlier post Bob.
The back pass rule was introduced in 1992 and Reina has spent his entire career dealing with this.
I have no complaints with Pepe but, in general, Liverpool's style of play whilst he has been here has not meant he has been forced to play the 'sweeper' role that much.
This may have to change with Kenny back.
In Clem's time, that role was expected and regularly called upon. Brucie too.
I think that Pepe has a long way to go before he can equal those two in the sweeper stakes.
The Real KB

I agree mate
i can go back to tommy lawrence, clemence was the most agile keeper i have ever seen and great on crosses, thats pepes weakness but there is signs of improvement, pepe is better than bruce though and could end up the best we ever had he is still young for a keeper, bob paisleys skids

What I did find interesting (and slightly ironic) about your earlier post praising Pepe and Agger - which I agree with by the way - is that these respective roles (the sweeper keeper and the ball-playing centre half) are traditional Liverpool virtues. For us slightly older fans, these qualities were once a given. No player would have got near the team without being able to do these things.
And now, cos it stands out so much, we are surprised that our players are able to do these things !
It makes you think ; what would things have been like if Kenny had been in charge way back ?
Younger fans should be down on their knees in gratitude that we've got Kenny back you know, going back to the proper Liverpool style.
The Real KB

I'm on one now Bob, your posts were very thought-provoking !
This last few years, ****ng Arsenal fans shouting "hoof" when Carra punted it skywards. Made my blood boil, I tell you.
There was no team worse than them ****ers a few years back. Now they think they invented football.
To be honest, Carra would have struggled to get in the sides I watched. I could name half a dozen better centre halves - Emlyn, Tommo, Jockey, Lawrenson, Tommy Smith, maybe even Gary Gillespie. All could play their way out of defence. Now, suddenly it's a big deal that we've got Agger who can actually play the ***ng game. Lol. Sorry mate, but it's about time we started playing the Liverpool way again.
The Real KB

This gentlemen, is what you call real good banter. All of you make great points. It's nice to see some great old school supporters that have seen a couple of generations of greats between the sticks. Clem shades it for me but Pepe by the time it's said and done could be a the best.

Chi-Paul

Gary Gillespie was a fantastic player he had too many injuries and was there at the same time as jockey, so we already had the best in the world, bob paisleys skids

I tell you what, Chi-Paul mate, before I go to bed, at least Utd had a go when they've been winning things. We've played some right old ****e these last few years (08/09 excluded). Horses for courses I know. We've had some success. But give me Kenny's style any day.
The Real KB

Pepe is one of the very best around at the moment, no doubt. But Clem was much less likely to spill a cross.
If he went up for a cross or long ball against a couple of forwards, he nearly always got it. Pepe just spills a few too many of them to be rated quite as high as Clem.

Pepe's distribution is unreal though. He seems to get an assist or a couple every year, and I'm not talking about a high down the middle bomb that happened to bounce through and get put away by chance. I mean the clinical directional ones he starts from free kicks and corners that are played and flighted to our own players.

Chi-Paul

From a post above

"We only conceded 16 goals in 42 league games"

The reason for that was not clemence although he did help out, the reason for that was "Iron Man" Tommy Smith ahh they just don't make them like him anymore, what a defender, what a hard man, what a player, what a goal in the european cup final, ahh those were the days

28 Nov 2011 21:19:55
Ed, who all have travelled to play tomorrow? Anyone from the u-18 team? {Ed002's Note - Nobody knows the team right now.}

28 Nov 2011 20:59:03
Im afraid I think that Kenny will stick with his 'young british talent' this year, and so I think people who think hazzard, ganso, di maria, villa and cavani are being a bit optimistic. I might be wrong, but sadly I think that is how kenny will go. Therefore I think the team in the year or so will be something like this.

---------------reina---------------
johnson-----agger--skretal------enrique
------------lucas---adam--------------
N.dyer--------henderson-------downing
----------------suarez-----------------

SUBS- Kelly, Carroll, bellamy, Pilkington, gerrard, carragher, doni, coates, maxi.

INS- Nathan Dyer- Swansea- 8M
Anthony Pilkington- Norwich- 4M
Jordan Abe- wycombe- 2M
Bruno Uvini- sao paulo- 4M

OUTS- Aquilani- AC Milan- 5M
Kuyt- Inter Milan- 10M
Pacheco- Valencia- 3M
Darby- Huddlesfield- 1M
Cole- Lile - 4M

I never knew we had signed a new player called skretal?its skrtel you plonker lol.I can guarantee you that dyer and pilkington will not sign for us.Why would they sign if we have much better players than them? I'm sure we will sign a few quality players in the summer and even better quality if we get in the top four.

Danny {Ed002's Note - I fail to see how spelling is justification for a rant.}

Its not at all mate sorry just a little joke.

Danny {Ed002's Note - No problem. But do not that folks get very pissed about you showing up their ignorance.}

Come on ed he was enjoying himself stood on his soapbox talking to himself lol. stuart

Sorry mate. Won't happen again.Just trying to lighten the mood like always. lol

Danny

I think if with Hendo in behind Suarez, we would not create enough goals. We need a Gerrard type attacker in behind Suarez or a Bellamy up top with him. The right winger we need is a goal scoring right winger, with Donwing we create enough chances as it is, we need someone to put them away. Bellamy / Suarez will but not every game, is there a 1 in 3 goal scoring right winger out there for a good price? Hulk is too expensive but the young Alergian lad playing France might be worth a punt. I see Dyer as a 1 in 5 goal scorer at best.

No chance of gettin 10mil for kuyt

The Algerian lad you are thinking of is ryad boudebouz. He is a good little player.I'm not sure but i would think we would be relatively cheap in today's market.Worth a punt I reckon.

Danny

who wld be best to replace stevie g as hes not getting any younger i suggest thiago alcantra from barca and c how it goes who do u think ????????/

Jesus Christ

3 years time Stevie G will be retired... I think players like Henderson and Shelvey were brought in as potential future replacements, only time will tell but at 17 Gerrard had alot more potential than both these players

Perhaps Henderson, or Adam, or Shelvey.
They all look good. We should try to sign them.

I fail to see why a player who is starting to get into the Barcelona team would switch to us and secondly why we'd want another midfielder.

Nobody can replace Gerrard

In 4 or 5 years time if he retires then we will get another player however there are no like for like replacements Gerrard like pele is a once off player

To steal a quote from somewhere else

He (Gerrard) is the best there ever was, the best there is and the best there ever will be in his position

Enjoy Gerrard while he's still around and stop looooking for replacements its silly

I do not think there is a player out there who can replace Stevie.

Have to be a two for one to replace Stevie and be more about the balance in middle

when steven gerrad comes back to full fitness what would you team shape up as with adam lucas gerrad and henderson all wanting two spots? or will the king change the formation?
I say this now because we have seen that if your not good enough for the team you dont get picked for your loyalty or previous performances (Cara) {Ed009's Note - I can see Gerrard-Lucas-Adam in central midfield and Downing-Suarez-Bellamy as the front three as our first team.}

I think people need to be realistic and start to think that gerrards career is pretty much over now.He has played about 2 games in a year now and regularly gets long injury lay offs.He has had a glittering career but I think its coming to an end.Thats why I feel strongly for us to get moussa sissoko as he is quality player.

Danny

He still plays well, just he doesn't play enough.

I watched sky sports earlier and i watched Bryn Law break down in tears over Gary Speed. It was so sad. Whether he played for Everton doesnt matter. All that matters is that his family and friends have lost there loved one. Very very sad.

Hi ed,

i was wondering what will be done about the financial fair play rules now? With blatter admitting being told that the punishment they had lined up for teams that didn't follow the rules are legally un enforceable? Does this mean the idea will have to be scrapped or do you see another punishment being thought up?

Rewflo
{Ed001's Note - that depends, the rules were set up at the behest of the clubs, so they can still be applied, so long as the majority of clubs back them. It is far from certain what will happen now, but a lot is going to depend on what the richest clubs decide.}

I thought that Blatter had admitted late last week (on advice from their legal team) that they cant impose bans on clubs as it would interfer with a players right to work, the example he gave was that if a player were to sign for a club on the basis of champs league football and that club is then banned due to FFP then it would be violating the players right to work and interfering with his contract.

Obviously they can't impose fines on people as that would be completely counter productive. Maybe teams would start with an automatic points deduction?

Rewflo {Ed001's Note - it doesn't really matter what Blatter says, the clubs have the power not him. If they decide to accept and stick with the FFP, then it will stay and be enforced. But if they want rid, then they will be scrapped.}

keightley! {Ed001's Note - get with it? I don't post on here, how the hell am I meant to see what the post forms say? The only sections that have relevance to us are the main post bit and the email section. The name not required bit is really just there because it is a standard contact form we just converted quickly. I will have to get that bit taken off it.}

The premiership isn't a ship it's a competition.

Always been a fan of Lucas.
He came on the back of a great reputation and cost about 8m if I remember right. Always gave it everything, and everyone seemed to forget his age and the disruption to his life moving from brazil. Being Brazilian and not a flair player didn't do him any favours. But I always saw potential in him and he lived up to it in the end.
I am glad he is now hailed as a Liverpool hero.
I can see the same in Coates. He will need a few years before he lives up to the fans high expectations. I just hope he has the same strong character as Lucas and is not scared away by some of our so called fans.

MIKEY

Funny how all liverpool fans wanted him out after the first season he had

Not all mate.
I was at the game where he got booed (can't remember who against) i was sick to my stomach at the rest for doing it, even started chanting for the lad, 'cos he wasn't even bad that game.

He is now one of the best DM in the world!

KT! {Ed001's Note - certainly not all, I have only ever got on the back of one player, I was only young at the time anyway and got a clip round the ear from me grandad at the match. He told me to back the players at the game and leave my moaning about how rubbish a player Paul Stewart is until I got home. Must be said, he is the single worst player I have ever seen try and kick a ball in my life. But I have never felt Lucas was all that bad, just thought he was struggling to adapt.}

Yeah let's be fair though, he was well out of his depth for his first two years, was just rafas sheer persistence, I think any other manager would have got rid so its not like we criticised for no reason. We're all just extremely happy to wrong this time.

Rewflo

I never. He was about 19.

MIKEY

Not all mate i for one give him loads of greff but after last season he made me eat my words and then some,
thats why im backing Carroll to do it and will never slate a Liverpool player again,
everyone need time some fit in straight away
and others just need time and the support to help them on there way.
k-h

You can't blame me for not knowing who he is then Ed .. The worst player that i've seen play for the us is Traore (sp?) but i would never get on his or any Liverpool players backs, especially at a match.

KT! {Ed001's Note - Traore could at least kick the ball, Stewart was just a joke, a big lump with no ability whatsoever. He did give me revived hope of a chance of making it as a pro myself though, he was the first pro I saw that I knew I was a better player than!}

I kmow i'm better than Traore Ed, could at least be league 1 if it wasn't for my medical condition blocking me from becoming a pro.
Semi-pro is all i can go to, so i've sorta given up an play Sunday league for fun.

KT!

Worst than Voronin?! Never!

Jatt YNWA

Traore could kick the ball? I must have missed that. Oh yeah, I remember, now. It was against Burnley in the FA Cup and he kicked it........into our net! He was bad.

Rigsby.

Worse than Poulsen? Surely not!

Myk

Istvan Kozma, Torben Piechnik :-)

Kozma and Piechnik were the two that came to mind too. Beat me to it mate (by about a 7 plus hour difference)

Cuchulainn's Hounds

I'm thrilled at the progress he's made but in early games he didn't "give everything". He'd often shy away from challenges and stay on the periphery of games. He's a totally different player now, top class

There are some pretty poor signings being mentioned here but Traore does not deserve the stick he's getting. He was a competent defender, with a good turn of pace and telescopic legs that often made well-timed tackles at moments where a mistake would have given away a penalty. Why is there such competition to rubbish past players? At least try and pretend you actually saw some of them play. Traore helped win number five: for that alone he deserves some respect.

Degan has to be one of the worst ever signings. He made his free transfer look very expensive. Or how about josemi?
Or le tallec and cheyrou? Some shockers have played for us over the years.

Actually no. Worst ever signing has to be aquilani.

Woke up not long ago, 1 pm here in the states. Heh, being a bum rocks sometimes.

So, I've been reading some articles about our great club and posts by some "fans" on several other websites (this one, too) and some of the things I've read that were written about Kuyt are SHOCKING.

Yes, he's not fast (never was), yes, his passing isn't supreme, and he doesn't score as many goals as he used to. But people saying to ship him off, he's useless, utter crap, anything like that, it just baffles me. Kuyt has been a legend for Liverpool and we should treat him with respect. If Kenny feels it's right to play Sir Dirk, then it's right. The man's a legend, a Red through and through. Hat's off to ye, Dirk.

nar mate no way a legend, dalglish is a legend dirk is not in kennys class, i am a fan of dirk though he is a 100% every game, bob paisleys skids

Just read ur own post back to urself there and that's the reason people don't think he should start! No pace or skill, poor shooting, can't cross, and slows down our counter attacks so often. Endeavour n hard work are great and he is a great guy but getting as much money for him now makes sense.
Jason

It is a disgrace to put our players down. kuyt has been an LFC legent and he still is. Can people stop putting our players down and give them support and respect.

What ever happens we should not put players down. Kuyt served the club with loyalty and belief for the club. He is getting older and slower OK. this does not give us excuse to put him down. He was and is an LFC worrior

Bob's Skids, I always love reading your posts but I'm gonna have to disagree because I see Kuyt as a legend. He has saved our arse so many times with clutch scrappy goals, and who else would score a hat trick against United from a grand total of 10 yards?!

Ooops, forgot to sign off. Yeah, bob I like your posts. Lol.

Please look at his Liverpool record and his international record. His work rate is amazing and scores important goals, he is a ledgend. King kenny however has more of a god status.

i like your type of commitment and support, dont ever change your opinion on a player because of what people on here say, it takes a lot to admit when your wrong iwas very wrong on lucas but i was deffo not on my own, there has always been fans who dont like dirk i have a mate who cant stand him, but i think dirk dictates the tempo of our games and when he plays well we usually win, he would get in my team every week but as for legend that word is posted about almost every player now it is used to loosely and it devalues the label i feel.bob paisleys skids

Fair enough, sir! To me, he's a legend. I'm but 21 years old and of course I've immersed myself into the history of the club. And to me, to show the kind of commitment, character, and goal scoring he's shown while in a Liverpool shirt, for as long as he has (what, 5 years now? That's amazing in today's game it feels like), and the fact that he bleeds true red, it's enough for me mate. I've always rated Lucas, but it's hard to look like Masch/Xabi when you're a 22 year old kid just moved over from Brazil, but man look at him now! You're a good man, bob paisley's skids. If you come to the states let's have a drink and watch the match! (even if it's at 7 am our time, why wouldn't I be up for it?!)

Does anyone know when Stevie G is likely to be back playing. Initially out for upto 4 weeks which has now passed and yet no sign of him returning !!!!

Heard it may be next couple of weeks--Finisher

A taxi driver at John Lennon airport heard that it could be as long as January, but what would he know.
I've watched the game a few times now and continue to be very impressed by Lucas and Enrique. Henderson will come good, along with a return to form for Downing and Carroll.

28 Nov 2011 17:08:21
you say that the big name signings will depend on if we get Champions League, but the fact is if we don't spend in January on a quality striker then we most likely won't qualify, especially when you look at the likes of the top clubs who have far better attacking options then we do, apart from Suarez. {Ed002's Note - The owners have provided good financial support and no doubt will continue to do so, but they need to be responsible. So where will Liverpool get the money from to pay for this "big name signing"? And if they do not subsequently qualify how will they sustain all of the costs when they are already making a very significant loss? I really don't see Cavani, Higuain, Van Persie etc. arriving in January - regardless of what the fans want. Dalglish set is stall out with Carroll and Bellamy and I would expect him to stick by them until the end of the season with the possible exception of cover from a player like De Jong.}

I would like to know how we are making a significant loss when the owners wiped out the debt {Ed002's Note - The debt is nothing to do with making a loss. The loss is made in a financial year. During the last FY to June 2010 the club made a loss of more than £20M. During the year to June 2011 the loss will increase even though £45M a year was saved on interest payments. During this financial year to June 2012 the losses will be even higher. The bottom line is it costs much more to run the club than the club earns.}

A very astute, balanced post...

And when do they start to make money then???

The club start making money when we earn more than we spend...

To put this into context, there are hardly any Premiership teams(Arsenal apart, maybe Spurs ?) that do run at a profit. There's not a lot of profit to be made out of football.
The Real KB

Next year hopefully. Champions league qualification, new kit sponsorship money, and not buying as many players will obviously help us balance the books.
But then we will need to finance the new stadium, so don't expect us to be rolling in it for a long while yet.

Why does anyone reply to this drivel from ed002. he knows jack about lfc finances and even less about who they want to sign......edoo2 am yet to see you get a signing correct....and you said we would not get suarez {Ed001's Note - you are talking complete nonsense, I was the one who said we would not get Suarez. So give it up and go to another site to spout your fantasies in future.}

I do so hope you banned him!

Ed002, do you know where the bulk of these big losses are coming from? I know up until this season, the club were generally spending what they were generating with regards to transfer fees, but i know that doesn't include signing on fees, agent fees etc. I'm not sure where i read it, but I thought the case with the old owners was that if it wasn't for the debt and interest payments, we would have been making a profit. In no way doubting you're right, and i know a big factor would be champions league money, just wanted to know what's causing us to lose so much.

Rugby Parker {Ed002's Note - Broadly the losses come from: (A) not appearing in Europe; (b) spending money on players which is more than income from sales; (c) day to day running (police fees etc.)}

Cheers Ed.

can somebody explain why when its a draw (to any other team) or a loss its all "get kenny out" or "the summer signings arent good enough". Yet a draw with City and its "im so proud of the team" "we played brilliant" "we cud of easy put 4 past". dont jump on my back for this but i feel you r all too optimistic at the moment. i mean it was lescot who equalised it for god sake. yes good performance but dont think it means climbing bk up the table str8 away

redredred

In my opinion, we were better than the top of the league, undefeated team, and it was on the back of beating another top team last week. That's why i'm optimistic that we're getting stronger, but it'll only matter if we start beating the lower-down-the-table teams.

Rugby Parker

City will probably win the league and we battered them.

Er... Citeh put 6 past Utd at OT, not to mention bombing everyone else along the way this season. A draw at Anfield with a real possibity of us nearly winning it is reason enough to be happy do you not think?

dd

Tbf 2 united as much as i h8 them, they had 10 men 4 a lot of the 2nd half. we shud av scord wen city wer dwn 2 10 men. we had jst beat chelski and city had jus lost to napoli. we hav a rite 2 be optimistic but we dnt need 2 get 2 complacent

redredred

We should have won against City. You have to take each match individually. Forget about form. City weren't at their best. They were against Utd. We were wasteful up front. It was a game we should have won. Equally people presume we should beat the "smaller" teams like Swansea, but they played well against us. The City result was more dissapointing for me, than the Swansea result.

Always resisted the temptation to do this so far, but I have to join the wishful thinkers who want Lucas Moura de Silva.

I've never seen him play a game, and I know you tube highlights are notoriously misleading (e.g. you could probably make Ryan Babel look like a superstar with short youtube clips, but over 90 mins he wasn't up to it).

But his skills look awesome, his dribbling and his runs from midfield are like a combination of Maradona and Suarez, and he looks a superb finisher too.

If this kid is half as good as the clips make him look, he is going to terrorise Europe when he finally gets over here.
If only it could be LFC that he plays for...

Im glad to hear so many people posting enquiries about David Villa. Lets face it, Balotelli should never have been sent off, the Liverpool players got him sent off. Surely our players should not have to lower themselves to this. 1-1 a fair result though.

He is a great player , but hes very silly , coming on as sub , getting a yellow , then leading with his arm into our player , if you think its our fault , watch the city manager when he went off the pitch , and in the dressing room after the match he was starting on his manager , hes a silly boy...........lfc

The ref was pulling out a card long before any liverpool player said anything to the ref.
k-h

When Warrior supply our kit next year I hope the get rid of the pockets in the shorts that hold the yellow and red cards that the Adidas ones have. Balotelli got 2 yellows, one for a pull back on a player breaking forward and one for using his left arm without even jumping for a 50/50 ball. While the 2nd one was borderline, you have to take into account the reputation that he has. He'a a great talent but a headcase. He got himself sent off.

Balotelli is a Prat, his first yellow was ridiculous. Mancini must be pulling out his
hairs with the behavior of Balotelli and Tevez. The only thing good I can say about Balotelli is that his hairstyle reminds me of my missus' public area -
I can only say, better a Balotelli than a David Luiz!

Reina proved yesterday yet again why he is the most complete goalkeeper in the World bar none. He is, in my humble opinion, the best goalkeeper we've ever had.

To be a modern day goalkeeper you need far more avenues of ability than what Clemence et al used to rely on. Whilst concentration, shot stopping and talking is still the same, the ability to play with your feet has grown with the outlawed backpass etc. and the ability to read the game has developed to play as a sweeper (considering the old fashioned offside law if you were offside , you were offside end of) is now just as important. When the backpass law changed I saw many great goalkeepers go from being consistent, error proof performers to goalkeepers who struggled and made bad mistakes due to their inability to kick the ball or deal with a pass back with their feet. Reina was just class yesterday.

And talking of class, Daniel Agger can take a bow as well. It's well known he is one of the best centre halves in Europe and if he can stay fully fit for 18 months or more, he'll be the defensive equivalent of Van Persie. Without a long run of games, there is no chance you can get any kind of form, rhythm or consistency to your performance. But he's now gone 5 games on the bounce *touch wood* and he's getting better and better and stronger and stronger the more he plays.

Glen Johnson, who I thought was bloody awful second half against Chelski, yesterday was defensively bang on the money all game. I thought he was solid, positionally he was excellent and second half he bombed down the line all the time and gave Clichy a nightmare than he couldn't handle.

Finally the left hand side clicked. Enrique and Downing as a partnership worked. Linked up very well both offensively and defensively and we looked very balanced down the left hand side. Whilst Downing can still give us more individually this balance we have been craving for nigh on 5/6 years or more is there, it's working and it's finally getting better. So instead of moaning about Downing, give him some credit and encouragement and he'll get better. He was up against the marauding and dangerous Micah Richards but everyone is saying Johnson was the better right back, so what does that say about Downing's workrate and ability to get forward? Surely everyone must have seen the way the two linked up seamlessly on multiple occasions?

I thought it was really, really encouraging and I tell ya when Enrique was scraping with every Citeh player in that second half run I was up yelling and roaring at him. Fantastic stuff. Brilliant. Made the pulse race a thousand times a minute.

That's what I want to see. Blood, guts, effort and commitment. In this squad we've got it in abundance.

Finally, however, I will say one thing. Fans will be saying we need to replicate these performances against the 'lesser' lights and of course they'll be spot on but remember the crowd must do their bit first. Against Swansea it was embarrassing, yesterday Anfield was rocking. The players' performances mirrored the crowd's in both games.

The crowd start before the players. We have to get that place rocking all the time. Nothing gets the hair standing on the back of your neck more than an Anfield crowd in the mood. Likewise if it's drab, quiet and less than enthusiastic, this will rub off on the players. Get their adrenaline running and roar them on.

Bob the Red
{Ed002's Note - Another good post Bob. I watched the game yesterday and thought Agger did particularly well has he was left exposed by Enrique on a number of occasions.}

Nice post again Bob, I made some similar points yesterday after the game about Reina. From the last two performances I don't think Reina has got as much credit as he deserves for the save at Chelsea when the score was 1-1 and as you rightly point out, the way he played the sweeper role yesterday.

JRG

Totally agreed on every point - great post

Jacob red

Spot on bob. The crowd make some difference. Im glad we are away to fulham because the crowd have been very poor all season at anfield. Can only hear them against the big teams.
kopfiend 1978 ynwa

Well said Bob the Red. I too thought that Enrique's lung busting run in the 2nd half was great. I also agree regarding the fans. Our away support has been great all season. We need to recreate the atmosphere of yesterday against ALL teams that come to Anfield. We are finally beginning to see the team gel.

Chi-Paul

Have to agree with all Bob.Sadly todays fans(correct as you are),Probably wont give similar backing in so called lesser games. And irony is we need them in those games just as much.Hope players know of current positivity/vibe generally on site.Cos when effort of pressing, workrate, closing down is seen.A lot else can be forgiven.Thats all we ask.Mr.Whinge

Well said Bob. It's coming together nicely on the pitch. Game by game were getting there. I to have always been a fan of Lucas. I was hoping he got the form or should i say to a level where he'd be able to stick 2 fingers up at those who constantly derided a young from a different country and culture wha

Reina terrified me at times flying out of goal. Not that I should of been, he knows what he is doing.

MIKEY

Sorry Bob but clem is the best keeper we ever had and brucie takes some beating Reina maybe the best in your time supporting mate but most of our trophys were won with them two in goal

Reina's sweeping was so inspiring I did the same thing in my P.E. today it was so awesome!

Once again a great post Bob . We really looked like a proper team yesterday.
Dara D

Liverpool keepers since, and including, Clemence were always expected to act as sweeper. So that in itself is nothing new.
However, as most of Reina's career at Liverpool has coincided with defensive-based tactics, it is newer to him with Kenny's preference to play a higher line.
Clemence was the master at this though. Fancied himself as an out-field player too.

Reading that Milan only want to loan Tevez. I think we should adopt the same approach, especially for foreign players, give the players time to settle and see what they can produce. It would be a real tragedy to spend good money on a player, and have him not work out or settle down.
Food for thought. {Ed002's Note - Sadly very few of the "better" players are available on loan. Typically players go on loan for experience, to put them in the shop window if they cannot be sold, or to move them out if they are not in the clubs plans. Manchester City are not interested in a loan deal.}

Could you imagine if we tried that with Suarez. Loan till the summer then a 60m price tag is put on his head and barca and real sniffing round.

Been doing some fixture research, here's what I've found out;

Next 5 premier league fixtures for these teams:

Liverpool - Fulham, QPR, Villa, Wigan, Blackburn

Chelsea - Newcastle, City, Wigan, Spurs, Fulham

Arsenal - Wigan, Everton, City, Villa, Wolves

Spurs - Bolton, Stoke, Sunderland, Chelsea, Norwich

Newcastle - Chelsea, Norwich, Swansea, West Brom, Bolton

When you look at it like that, we should get the maximum from all 5 of the games. Chelsea are bound to lose points against City, Spurs and perhaps Newcastle. Arsenal, in their current form, can take 15 from 15, but take into account that Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal all have European matches to play. Spurs may also be able to take 15 from 15 in their current form, but I'm hoping for a slump in form.

Very important month lads, must get behind the team more than ever this month.

"Special mention should be reserved for Lucas........your "fans" maligning you, the media witch hunt, pressures of being at a big club etc... to grapple with all of these without once even complaining, sulking, or wanting to leave. Pulling on his LFC shirt with pride, holding his head up high, knuckling down in training, giving 200%... in spite of all the vile opposition, this vicious witch hunt, speaks volumes of this kid's character.
Very few possess such mental strength."

Totally agree with Ray and actually i have to say i am little irked to say the least with amount of Lucas loving going on at the moment. It's as if everyone has forgotten how maligned he has been over a period of years.

The stick this lad has received has been nothing short of disgraceful, and it hasn't just been from a mindless minority. What has shocked me has been the ferocity in the vitriol in which the criticism has been lambasted upon him.

This isn't the time to come on here and say 'I told you so, I've been telling you for 3 years this lad is good" but I have done the decent thing. I've been patient and watched what he has got and what he can offer AT the same time acknowledge his faults AND acknowledge his progress throughout the last couple of years.

There have been times I've posted a staunch defence of Lucas when he was the scapegoat for everything that went wrong and received volley loads of abuse with it as well.

The point is, if you had bothered to support the lad through thick and thin then you'd be getting the rewards. As Ray has alluded to, there aren't many players who could have ridden this storm and come out the other side unscathed. The club have been very, very fortunate and the player has obviously got mental strength in spades. Something that Benitez stated in 2007 but no one cared to listen.

Two examples of Lucas. The performance he gave away to Reading in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup Jan 10 (or 09 can't remember). His two biggest faults were he was getting caught on the ball a little too often and his distribution was at times awry and he gave the ball away again a little too often. That was it for me, that's all he needed to improve upon. His work rate at that time was excellent, his break up play was vastly improved from 2007 and getting better, yet he was being slated from pillar to post.

Yesterday he was absolutely sensational. A bright star amongst many superb performances and he was almost faultless in his display. His only mistake, which could have proved costly, was when he allowed Dzeko to get away from him at the death. Other than that I'm wondering if he's let David Silva out of his pocket before he left the ground?

Now I suspect many will now wander onto Jordan Henderson if they haven't done so already, completely losing sight that really Lucas has done what every footballer has done since time began and that's join a club when young, learn and get better over a period of a few years.

Problem nowadays is that the knee jerk's are the loudest voice in town. I can agree with many voicing concerns that Henderson looks a little in awe and playing within himself and perhaps not expressing himself as much as his ability suggests he should. However I think you'll find he is better than at the start of the season and is slowly but surely maturing into a more rounded footballer.

That said, if every mistake you make is received by 25,000 groans then possibly he is too scared to make a mistake as the fans won't let him forget it, so he sticks to the basics. It happened yesterday, despite the fantastic support on offer throughout the game that one awful volley/cross he tried in the second half; the groans outweighed the claps of support 10 to 1.

Think about this. In a few years time I'm hopeful Henderson will be at the level that Lucas is currently at. Lets just do our jobs and support and encourage and let the club get on with looking after the players.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. We are on the cusp of something big. Maybe not this year or next year but certainly soon….and two years is soon in football. I can be patient and I am content with the progress being made. In fact I've never felt so enthused for many a season.

Bob the Red

Best post i have read on here for a while , think we are very lucky to have lucas , and other teams fans are starting to say how good he is and they would like him in their team , we will only get better , the fighting spirit is showing more and more with us , it will all come together under kk.............lfc

Good post but i dont believe anyone who says they didnt moan at some of the mad tackles and stupid bookings and misplaced passes lucas used to do, he is the most improved player i have ever seen considering he is still at the same club, maybe kenny has helped? but i am a convert i thought he was crap we can all see he realy is a class player, bob paisleys skids

I feel it's a bit harsh to say he was crap a few years ago. very few fans recognised the fact that he was bought as an attacking goalscoring midfielder, the youngest ever player to win the brazilian version of the ballon d'or and the u20's world cup top goalscorer and player of the tournament. it was only rafa's insistence to convert him to a DM that made his transition that much harder at 19 years of age.
as to his performance sunday it was close to faultless, opta stats prove so and he deserves the accolades. but as a fan of his would know his opta stats very rarely vary that much from game to game anyway. always high and always in the top 5 in the league for DM'S/midfielders.
i've believed in his ability from day one and i think charlie adam's 'unnoticed by fans' high work rate alongside him has made him continue to up his game. and also they look like they enjoy playing alongside each other.
his biggest attribute is his desire to continue to learn and grow as a player and as each game passes this is evident in his development as sunday he was somewhere between alonso & mascherano. YNWA lad.

the points you have raised about being highly rated and so on are well documented. thats what got him his move to england in the first place, but i dont know any redmen who thought that lucas had this seasons performances in him, i would never personally claim to always being a fan of his even though i am now, are you his dad, bob paisleys skids

Please now can we stop with this bull about Adam and Lucas not being quick enough or mobile enough to play together. Not only that but their growing into a formidable pairing. I know Hendo was in there as well, but wow, their quickly becoming one of the best pairing's in the Prem. Lucas's reading of the game is sublime, and how good in the air is he these days. Adam just a proper footballer, got everything a play maker needs. Amazing what having a full time fitness trainer can do to bring the very best out of a player. He never had one at Blackpool and you could tell when he first come that it looked like he was playing catch-up as seen in the Spurs game, were he got sent off for booking's that were down to not being fit enough. Now he is,he's gonna be a massive player for years to come. Games are essentally won and lost in the middle of the park and i thin at weve got two of the best. Re making Lucas captain, maybe him or Agger in the future, even Adam wouldn't be a bad shout. I'm happy with Reina to go on,he's a leader and it doesn't matter to me what position the captain plays in as long as he's respected by his peer's the status quo will do for me.
Jonson.

Two seasons ago I would've thought you were joking to suggest Lucas as a future captain, but now you can really see the possibility.
To stick with the red shirt through all the flak he got from the fans, and to come out even stronger and better, to me shows that the lad has got real character.
I'm made up that we have so many potential leaders in the team- Suarez, Adam, Hendo, Pepe, Bellamy- and others- have all captained at different levels, and it reminds me of the old team of the early to mid 80s where every other player was a leader in his own right.
We've got some catching up to do to get into the top four places, but we were 11th this time last year with a -4 goal difference, so fingers crossed the lads can put on a charge until xmas and get right back in the thick of it.

Even as a fan of Charlie Adam before he came to Liverpool, I have been so impressed with the improvements in his physical fitness. I saw him play against Liverpool for Rangers in a pre-season game a few years back, and he was enormous, looked nothing like a football player. Comparing him from the start of this season to now, his stamina, physique and energy have all come on leaps and bounds. I'm very impressed with his application, it really looks like he understands how big a move this was for him, and he'd do anything to make it a success. Now all i want from him is to a) throw in some of those £10m corners from last season! and b) grab that ball anytime we get a penalty or a decent-ranged freekick, don't be afraid Charlie my son!

Rugby Parker

Fantastic post. Great shout.

Bob the Red

I'm gonna hold my hands up here, cos I posted earlier in the season (after Spurs game I think ?) about concerns with Adam's fitness and pace. But, fair play, his fitness has improved a lot. And him and Lucas have done well together. Be interesting to see where Kenny plays Gerrard when he's fit again. Fair shout jonson.

Sorry, forgot to put my name to the post above. Not intentional I assure you !
The Real KB

Adams fitness has improved a lot, against city he seemed to be everywhere, covered every blade of grass.
Johnson, I think gerrard should be on the bench until he is 100% match fit again. Lucas and Adam are doing such a great job and the whole team plays better as a result of the stability.
I would play him behind Suarez when he is match fit though. Like a second striker. And keep Lucas and adam in midfield.

MIKEY

MIKEY,agree Gerrard has to be bang on the money this time. If Macca says Jan let's hope we get the whole or most of the second half of the season and stay fit we'll be fighting for 3rd min. I truly believe with how we've been playing for most of the season, well 90%of it anyhow he'll be the catalyst to drive us over the line. If not its uptothe old cliche of a team to gel. Which we are defo doing that. I'd play him on right but with the freedom to drift in old school styles old stuff and join in play link up with Suarez and the reset KB. Were would you play him if the time frame of his injury is correct and comin from Macca I expect and hope is bang on KB.
Jonson.

Ed 002 – with Terry suspended who in your opinion do you think AVB will pick tomorrow night as the 2 centre backs? I think it will be Ivanovic/Luiz. Can you see Maxi & Bellamy causing them problems again? {Ed002's Note - It will be either Alex and Luiz or Alex and Ivanovic. I am by no means sure Bellamy will start but I am sure whoever plays will keep them reasonably busy. I would expect Carroll to start the game.}

I hope carroll starts, i think these past few weeks on the sideline will make him hungry an go out with a massive point to prove

everyone talk about Villa's age . but why don't talk about quality. paid £35m to a young striker what that pay back to you? we need a reguler goal scorer . as suarez fail to score we suffer. if use £30m and that help us to get top 4 place then sure we want it. and its in metro news today that livver have an enquary for villa so dont say we just dream. about Villa join mata and torres. let me remember u guys Pepe is villa's frined not torres or mata.
{Ed001's Note - Metro is a fantasy dream paper, they are about as accurate as your wishful thinking dreams here. Villa has been playing in the most creative team in the world, yet he is not scoring as regularly as he was before he joined. There is a very good reason he is surplus at Barca, he is on the decline, he would be a Morientes signing if we got him. Except he would demand wages that would make Gerrard's seem like chicken feed to join us.}

Hi Ed. Great game yesterday, to bad we couldn't kill it. But I think it's quiet obvious that we need a creative AM, Suarez can't do everything in the final third by himself. I've posted erlier and my suggestion is Gaston Ramirez from Bologna, but i think that a summer move is more likley. What do you think about Ryad Boudebouz? Never really seen him that much, but he's got talant and agility but I doubt his "football-knowledge"
What do you think about theese players?

ST - John Guidetti
AM - Ryad Boudebouz, Gaston Ramirez
Winger - Andre Ayew, Nathan Dyer, Pablo Hernandez {Ed001's Note - to be honest I remain to be convinced on any of those. Mostly because I haven't seen enough to make up my mind on them. Though, in Ayew's case, I just don't think he is good enough, his weaknesses outweigh his strengths for me.}

John guidetti is at man city you won't get him

Although I was chuffed that the winger Alexis Sanchez never came to the Prem, I must say that, what a waste of talent he's going to be at that club.
Him, Afellay and Nuri Sahin are apt examples of what NOT to do in footy.

These are hugely talented players.
If Sanchez had joined, say, Chelsea or the Manc Filth, I've no doubt he'd be the talking point right now.
He'd have had just about the same impact in the Prem as Ronaldo had.

At his age, what he needed was to go out there and be the star man, not be wandering in Messi's shadow on the Barca fringes.

Same story for Sahin and Afellay.
Either could've joined any of the other top European sides and established themselves as household names.

Yes, you have the talent, but just not enough to be important at these clubs.

Let it be a lesson to kids like Gotze, Eriksen, Ganso, Hazard etc.
As tempting as Barca and Real are, the greener on the other side.

Luiz Ronaldo, C Ronaldo, Xabi Alonso all joined Real after having already established themselves as household names at important clubs (Inter, Manchester United, Liverpool).
They were already big.
I endorse this way.

Of course, there are exceptional cases (Di Maria is one).
But that's the thing, exceptional, exceptional circumstances.

It's Suarez's "boyhood" dream to play for Barca.
IF, BIG "IF", he were to leave for them next 3/4 years, he'd be ready and would walk straight into that eleven.
PSV>LFC>BFC = good prep.

My feeling is that Sanchez, Sahin and Afellay won't fulfil their potential where they currently are.
Within the next 2, 3 or so years they'll be sold and it is wherever they'll go to they'll be be the world class stuff they can be.

What you think, ed?
How wise was of those players to join Barca and Real?
Do you see Hazard, Gotze, Eriksen, Ganso, Moura etc making the same blunder?

Baie dankie

Ray Burmeister {Ed002's Note - I don't think your examples are terribly good I am afraid. Alexis Sanchez has not been playing due to being out injured for two months - that could have happened anywhere. Sahin is being integrated in to the squad and will provide depth. Affelay I has been out out injured since September and will likely be for much all of this season. He may return to PSV on loan to get some game time in the new year at some point. Some of the players you mention will certainly end up at one or other of the Spanish clubs and some we know won't.}

Missing his point ed. I think he has a point. None of those players will progress like they should. Waste of great natural talent for money. {Ed002's Note - It would have been better not to have used two players out with long-term injuries as an example then. Let's take Sanchez as an example - he played in every single game he was available for until he got injured on September 10 and he has been out since. It was a hopeless example.}

I think that Lucas could be a great captain of LFC in the near future? I have never been a fan of a keeper being captain, as great as Pepe is!!!!!!! He has developed fantastic over the years, taken stick from fans, now he is one of the best holding mid's in Europe.
Remember he was U21 capatin for Brasil, he knows how to organize a team and look after players who are young and getting stick (Carrol).

Before the Chelsea game I would have taken 4 points from the 6. We got that, however I feel we deserved to take all 3 points, not just yesterday in most of our games.

We haven't lost since spurs away and still remain unbeaten at Anfield. City have won all the games bar 2 and are unbeaten in the prem. We are gelling well and will only get stronger.

Does anyone remember how many points we had this time last season?

Kenny your doing a fantastic job and I believe you are the man to take us back to the top.

I still think we'll make top 4 but there's 7 teams fighting for that and it isn't going to be easy. I think come January, we will be stronger and turning most of these draws in to wins.

Newcastle are the outsiders who are playing well and spurs are going to be close too. I can't predict the top 6 but if I had to I'd say
City
United
Lpool
Spurs
Arsenal
Chelsea.

Very happy with 4 points from 6, I feel we played alot better vs city than chelsea and the chelsea game could have gone either way

Hi Ed - I saw the comment about Adebayor not going to the African Cup yesterday, I thought he had come out of international retirement?

Have to say kudos to the City fans giving a balanced viewpoint on the game, and not crowing about being the probable title winners.

It's nice to see that some of you guys can still keep your feet on the ground even when your team of superstars is running away with the prem and thrashing last years' winners 6-1.

Personally I wish you every success (except when playing us of course), especially if you finally knock Utd off their perch.

But watch out lads- it could be that City and Liverpool will be the big top-two rivalry of the next ten years!

The team is performing very well, players are putting a hard effort every-time but can the team repeat such performances against the lesser teams. Liverpool are always a team that rises in big occasions, but it's the lesser teams that is the problem for Liverpool. I hope the team shows such displays even against the lesser opposition & win the games.
Liverpool are really lacking a consistent Goal scorer, last season after Kenny's arrival there was a time Merrales were doing the job, Kuyt & then Maxi, this year we have not seen such a player provided the fact that our Strikers are some what disappointing in-font of the goal the situation is much more damaging. It will be harsh to put the blame in Suarez as he offers more than just scoring goals to the team.
The club needs someone from midfield or anywhere, to score goals.
Then the the great Andy Carroll, may be he will come good as many of you think & I hopes too but for the time being we need a striker who can really score goals for fun. We can't wait for him our time is running out. In January this must be our No.1 priority. It will be great if we can get some one like Higuain, Soladao, Reus etc... . forget the price the money is worth enough to spend & sure the owners will provide if Kenny asks for it.

What a game!
I thought we applied ourselves very well and, on the balance of play, were the superior side.

I said last week that my only worry was our profligacy. Fair to say that our failure to capitalize yesterday was more or less not so much our wastefulness as Joe Hart's inch-perfect brilliance.
The lad was simply too good on the day. Credit to him.

I was hugely impressed too by Agger.
Was defensively sound and ever as outstanding going forward.
No doubt the best ball-playing centre back in the Prem.

Skrtel did well too.
He's gone from being a hit-and-miss centre half who constantly and unnessarily hoofed it up field to a reliable one who embraces the ball.
Good on you, big man.

Henderson, same old, same old.
Nifty, very gifted player too scared to get out of his shell.
I like this kid, I like him a lot.
But his disinclination to take responsibility, be in the thick of things, immerse in the game, is exceedingly frustrating.

He has more to give.
He's world class material.
But he won't fulfil any of his potential if he keeps playing within himself.
Get out of yer shell, kid. Believe in yourself.

Special mention should be reserved for Lucas. Exceptional.
To come to a country like England from a place like Brazil at such a young age, huge expectations on your shoulders, grapple with: the language barrier, culture, weather, style of football, changing to a new position, your "fans" maligning you, the media witch hunt, pressures of being at a big club etc... to grapple with all of these without once even complaining, sulking, or wanting to leave.

Pulling on his LFC shirt with pride, holding his head up high, knuckling down in training, giving 200%... in spite of all the vile opposition, this vicious witch hunt, speaks volumes of this kid's character.
Very few possess such mental strength.

The maturity and composure in his game has exponentially improved.
Best thing is that, his best years are yet to come.
Like wines, players the kind of Lucas mature with age.

Without doubt he WILL be the great that Rafa envisioned when he brought him here... for us and for the Selecao, whom I expect him to skipper in Brazil2014.

I'm not one to dwell on the future, but, fellas, I think we're set, for the next 8-10 years or so.

Kelly, Coates, CoCo, Sterling, Suso, Hendo, Morgo, Jonjo, Wilson, Robbo are all exceptional kids. With Agger, Pepe, Jonno, Enrique, Suarez and, of course, my Captain designate, Lucas Leiva, providing the leadership, we shall be set.

How ironic it would be that, the player who's been the most maligned, hated, denigrated, disparaged, pissed and spat on by his own club's fans, is the one who spearheads the team's return to the former glories.

Personally, nothing would make me more prouder.

Thank you and good luck, Mr Leiva.
Fowler bless Liverpool.

Baie dankie

I was juz thinking, if we choose to rest most of the players who started yesterday, we can still put a half decent team out against chelsea tmr. Smthg like this-

Reina

Kelly Coates Carra Aurelio

Maxi Hendo Spearing Sterling

Carroll Bellamy(if kenny thinks he's ok to play)

That's not too bad for a 2nd team rite?

And i'd love to see the likes of Coady, Suso and Morgan on the bench and given a run out at some point. Just to see how the match up with PL opposition.

I really don't mind if we give the kids a chance and lose. Would be a good learning experience.

But if we win, what a boost that woukd b for them.:-)

Anyway, hope we play well and take our chances.

Kuyt is his best team mate, Spearing is the best trainer and Stevie is the most intellegent. Im sure lfc.tv did something similar to this a year or so ago if you have a look you may find it.

When are the owners going to realise that Dalglish is past it. His signings are definitely not working and the sooner people wake up and take notice the better. He wanted a British core in his previous stint here and it is clear it does not work this time around. You've only got to look at Adam and Hendo the last few matches to see this. As for Andy Carrol dont get me started. All the game time he's having and he cant get 2 goals a game. What a joke. 5 draws at home is just unthinkable. And don't even get me started on Lucas, a guy who cant tackle and cant pass a ball. He's not a touch on Poulsen and we got rid of him. Our defence has been shocking since pre season.
These fans on here are so right. Dalglish will never get this team to gel and play good football.

Good one Fickle Fan. A truly fair assessment of recent times.

I almost couldn't bear to watch the match yesterday as i was kind of nervous (which is silly i know), but we did look good and really if it wasn't for the best English keeper for years we would've been 3 or 4 up.

Strange - before the match i would've taken a draw but after it i feel a bit frustrated we didn't win. Now that is surely progress - coming away from a match against the most expensive team in English history feeling slightly robbed, let us not forget this is a team that tore the other Mancs a new one at the devil - dome.

I am probably going to get battered for this but i am a Carroll fan - i would've loved it if his header had gone in, that would've been just perfect.

Good times,

RIP GS - really very sad.

After back to back good result u can't say kenny not work. draw with city is a good one. and away win over chelsea is fantastic. there are 10 big match in EPL. arsenal, man u, city , chelsea, and tottenham so far we lost only tottenham so team is ok for me.

Heard Bayern Munich are keeping a close eye on Agger.

I think he is now showing what he has got, if he can stay fit & continues this fine form every top club would love to have him. Even Skrtel looks twice the player along with Agger. I very much doubt the club would consider selling him as he is the best defender at the club, but WRT his Injury record there may be a chance the club would consider selling him. Summer looks likely but if he can put the injury record behind & remain fit till the end of the season pretty sure we won't sell him unless he wants a move away...

it was a gd game yesterday, both teams played not too lose.liverpool pushed for it more second half.
lucas was the best player on the pitch.agger skrtl played well too.
henderson will be a great player but needs some more time, just like lucas needed time.
we need to get another striker in and a winger too replace kuyt in games like these.
we got the team going again, now we need to buy class players to make everyone work for there spot.
we are creating the chances but we are not taking them, and its been like this from the start,in jauari we need to buy a striker and winger thats all.
in summer 1 defender 1 midfielder and a left sided player.
we will be fighting for the league i very sure we will.
KK has brought us back and he knows we need time.and he will need financial backing from henry in januari.we need to come into the top4

28 Nov 2011 10:41:01
Since Carragher has been out, we've rose up the defensive league table, and now have the joint best record in the league only conceding an astonishing 12 goals in 13 games. He has to fight to get his spot back now. After seeing how well we destroyed City yesterday I'd play this formation (4-3-3):

-------------------Reina------------------
Johnson----Skrtel--------Agger----Enrique
-------------------Lucas-----------------
---------Henderson------Adam-----------
Suarez-------------Carroll---------Bellamy

Against the bigger teams swap Suarez with Carroll and put Kuyt right wing and Maxi left to turn it into 4-5-1

Absolutely loved the game yesterday. Carroll was so unfortuante not to grab the city match headlines once more.

YNWA! (Adam)

Surely you mean against the lesser teams. Right?

Yeah, Time for Carra to take a seat on the bench.

No different approaches for big or Small teams, every game is important, the draws against the likes of Norwich & Swansea proves we need our best players on the pitch to win. Play the same XI every time (the XI that played against Chelsea) unless an injury or fatigue forces a change.
Players like Carroll, Dowining & Henderson were brought to improve the squad, it's not a must that they should start every game.

Armando

My point was against the smaller teams you need more forwards to put the game to bed and record the high scorelines, however against the big teams its better to win the midfield battle and grab one or two goals.
Every game is important, but we'd lose every game if we approached them all with the same tactics...

YNWA! (Adam)

Some merit in what you say.2 strikers-lesser sides. But why not use if aint broke-dont fix?ie,side doing well-keep same side, and personnel.Unless tweaks tactically required in game.Surely more understandind-g forged over longer spells.Unless dip in form, then bench.

28 Nov 2011 10:29:09
Liverpool's defense is as good as any in the league. The problem is our attack. I thought that Carroll, Gerrard & Suarez would form a formidable attack. That's why I was so confident that we could challenge for the title. So do we give Carroll & Gerrard time or do we buy replacements in January. Podolski & Sissokho would make us serious contenders for a top 4 finish.

Got to sort attack to make top 4.Aint a lot else wrong.Wether Carroll makes it or not.Need real 25 goal man in asap

28 Nov 2011 10:26:43
Thought it was a great team performance yesterday. Enrique, Lucas and Suarez in particular shone. I just think we need one more striker. Against the best teams we cannot start with big andy as his immobility is a real problem. Carroll did look dangerous when he came on giving a tired defence a tough time and was only stopped from scoring by England's keeper making one hell of a stop. Dirk is still willing but he seems to be slowing up.

Just one striker could be all it takes to get easily into top 4.

Luuk de jong anyone? i wud personally have higuain or benzema, even though they r unlikely.

Not Liverpool related but expect Sunderland to announce today that they have sacked Steve Bruce. Get some cash on it.

Great performance yesterday, just a shame to be leaving Anfield with a feeling of 'what if' once again this season. It's getting really frustrating seeing opposition gk having a stormer against us! Hi everyone,

I firstly want to say, speaking as a North Wales lad myself and also a football fan, it was the saddest news that Gary Speed has passed. A man who led as a ambassedor for Welsh football and became a reknown Premier League legend. Im sure everyone will join me in sending our greatest condolences to his family and also Craig Bellmany in whom he played with at Newcastle and also was captain of Garys Welsh national team. You'll Never Walk Alone RIP Gary Speed.

The game was exceptional and lived up to all the pre match hype. We won the midfield, which considering Man City's wealth of talent is some achievment and shows how far we have come under Kenny and Steve. The atmosphere was terrific, it was like going back to a European game. Credit to the city fans aswell, apart from one or two who couldnt keep there traps shut in the minute silence. Explosive performances from Adam and Lucas, with gerrard to come back into this team it's mouth watering the potential options. I also thought the reception Andy Carroll got was wonderful, this doenst look like a football club who are not behind there number 9. The only disapointment is we didnt win the game but credit to Joe Hart who pulled off some magical saves. We proved we can be the real deal but performances like this mean nothing when you cant beat Norwich Swansea etc (with no disrespect to these teams). All we can hope is collectivley from the fans and the players the same for our next game. If so, our chances of winning increase by 100%

Well done everybody,

Adzii

Please can a couple of opposition keepers come to anfield and have absolute shockers. Its painful watching them pulling off worldies every home game we have.

Was at the game yesterday and really can't believe anybody here thought that downing was excellent all game. He was shocking first half, didn't get his foot in, didn't try to beat his man and to be honest offered pretty much zilch. In fairness he was much improved in the second half by virtue of doing what he is best at and that was running at defenders and delivering crosses. He really does need to work on his finishing though.

Henderson for me needs to try and influence the game far more. He shows good movement off the ball and is a willing runner. He looked to concerned about his position and defensive duties yesterday and ultimately for long passages became a passenger because he didn't involve himself enough. Another though that did have a better second half besides a woeful attempt at a first time cross. He looks like a player at the moment that doesn't want to make mistakes and is probably playing well within himself.

Lucas outstanding, immense and quite simply MOTM.

Thought both centre backs played well again and its nice to have the defence playing slightly higher up the park and not being afraid to bring the ball out of defence.

Just a quick note on glen johnson. With all the rave reviews micah richards has had this season yesterdays game pitched arguably englands best two attacking right backs (plus maybe kyle walker at present) up against each other and johnson came out well on top. He has looked far fitter and sharper these last two games and offers us a genuine threat down the right.

Downing is a good player but he is really off form
at the moment and he needs to get this sorted. When we are playing 4-5-1, some goals have got to come from mid-field and Downing does not look like he's ever going to score. I would have played Maxi, simply because he can score goals. At the moment Enrique looks more of a winger than Downing. Enrique runs at defenders, he's running past defenders and he's hitting the by line more often than Downing does. But I've not seen anything like that so far from Downing. I'm not saying we should get rid of Downing, because he is a class player. But he needs to get his game together, maybe he needs a goal or two to boost his confidence. Any thoughts?

I would be tempted to play bellamy/maxi from the left and downing from the right. I feel it suits enrique to have a right footer infront of him who will naturally tuck in allowing him to overlap (I think this would also apply for johnson on the right should downing be infront of him). It would also give downing the chance to come inside on his left foot and get some shots away (practice is defo required). Playing with those players always gives you the opportunity to switch wings as well during the game.

Downing is shocking at present, refuses to take anybody on, when he even makes a half hearted attempt at it he comes inside everytime. Can`t shoot to save his life either (cows arse and banjo spring to mind), very poor stuff from him.

What I noticed about Downing since he has come to us is that he is so keen to prove he's a good player as opposed to doing the things that made people believe he is good. Like Riera, Kewell etc. before him he likes cutting inside, even when on the left nearly all the time, if Enrique doesn't make the run the move breaks down. When Andy is playing he needs to do the simple things like getting to the byeline and whipping some crosses in ... I'm sure his goals will then follow! I'm sure he'll be better in the second half of the season...

Downing needs confidence.ild be inclined to agree with trying Cheggers suggestion.Maybe at Chavski in cup.Mr,Whinge

i thought we played really well yesterday and came on strong in the second half. Maybe missed a focal point upfront untill carroll came on but we had to pack the midfield to not get outnumbered i also think that we are defending really well at the moment. I was one that said carra and agger was our best partnership but carra as got a fight on to get back in the side. But isnt it great to be talking about competition for places.

I also think the partnership of adam and lucas works really well. Lucas was my MOTM. He is immense and gets the rest playing.

Highlights from the Man C game:

- Lucas tackled by Toure then running after him and deftly stealing it back
- Suarez nutmeg on yet another international defender
- Anfield roar for Carroll coming on (that's what I call SUPPORT)
- One, two...one, two...Suarez shot gets saved. Would have been the team goal of the season if Hart had missed it
- Balotelli told to shut up and get down the tunnel by Mankini

Hey eds, just wondering, after his amazing performances of late has anyone been keeping an eye on our Lucas Leiva? I think after todays performance its safe to say the lad is world class and its only a matter of time before Abramovich comes knocking :( {Ed001's Note - I would very much doubt Lucas will be moving to Chelsea any time soon.}

Any time soon ??? any time at all, he is awesometastic

Keep it up, Lucas. YNWA

Hi guys/gals it bothers we when i read what fans say about suarez his moaning diving etc havent you noticed hes getting beat up out there and the ones that are doing it have a smile on their face he is a special player just like owen who had his minder in heskey,
we need carroll alongside suarez to even the playing field and dont you all remember what they did to city last time we played them forget this bulls**t and respect for man city or any other team we should not be happy with a draw why you ask because we are liverpool
if you are happy with a draw at anfield shame on you,im a big fan of andy carroll and believe he would have givin us a win today just by his presence he knew what was going on hence the yellow card some call it a little bit of their own medicine,we just need the punch up front to take us from being a good team to a great team.(godin)

Suarez aint getting enough protection. But maybe hasnt earier on helped himself with that

The biggest thing i loved about Lucas today was his passing range. He was spraying the ball from left to right, especially in the second half.

It really does look like he could have everything in his locker.

Stu.

Who is better than Lucas in defensive mid in the world right now. any ideas? no one comes to mind.

Jordan Henderson

I remember in the 90's Ray Parlour for Arsenal looked so far out of his depth that it was almost funny. Wenger comes in and all of a sudden he's playing international class football. Under Kenny, Lucas has matured dramatically. He'd come on well the past few years but now he looks pure, genuine quality. Well done lad. He deserves all the credit in the world.
