Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

Where has the fast-paced attacking style gone from last season?

Where has the pressing style gone?

Why did it take Rogers half a season to change formation and tactics that were clearly not working?

Why did he change it again completely after about 12-13 games where we were winning nearly every game?

Why are players continually played out of position?

Why is he not playing a formation that suits the majority (if not all of the players we currently have)? ie, the same formation and style used during that unbeaten run?

Why play political games against the transfer committee?

How can he not set his team up to counter or better 'Timmy Time'?

Why can he not get the team up for must win games against West Brom & Hull, where if we had won them Man U would be feeling a bit of pressure themselves (especially after Everton beat them)?

Why is he not playing Manquillo? At the same time how the hell is Johnson still getting a game?

Why is he wrecking the confidence of Markovic?

Why does he play Balotelli on his own when he can only really play in a 2? The same can be said for the limited time Lambert has been on the pitch too?

There are so many questions more than this.

This is why I think it might be time to part with the good ship Rogers and employ the services of Klopp or another manager identified as being an upgrade.

Wouldn't mind answers to those myself!

30 Apr 2015 01:46:01
I honestly don't understand it. We only lost one player from last year's team (admittedly a very good one in terms of ability), yet for some reason we apparently have had to shift near 180 degrees from tactics that served us well with the other 10 players back to, uh, whatever you'd call this current style of play. It really doesn't make much sense.

Agree2 Disagree0

30 Apr 2015 07:10:34
Why ? Because he doesn't know what he is doing.

A major why is the loss of Suarez and Gerrard's legs.

Suarez was conducting the attack by his mere presence. Now gone, so has the attack. He was the cause of last year's success, not Rodgers.

Which new coach ?

I would be happy with Bielsa or Klopp.

Although I would prefer Bielsa over Klopp. There is a very successful Argentine, but he is 64/5. Perhaps he wants to retire ?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Bielsa is not retiring.}

30 Apr 2015 08:17:51
I'll give it a go:
-Sturridge has pace - injured and replaced by Mario or Lambert (no pace). Suarez has pace replacements didn't. But more than raw pace is the speed of movement and thought that Suarez has. He pulled defences all over the pitch because they had to mark him, then he'd beat a man and draw more defenders. Suarez's presence created a lot of space allowing fast paced play. It's much harder against a compact organised defence ( like Chelsea).
-Pressing style: again when you have the attacking prowess of Suarez and Sturridge it creates fear in your opponents who sit back (allowing you to press) and creates confidence in your team (encouraging you to press). We went into games with the mentality 'if you score 2 we'll score 3'. These days we don't have that confidence because we don't have a world class player and a great finisher (who is fit).
-Tactics: we had a massive new player recruitment. First they have to adapt to the initial tactics, this takes a while and you don't give up after 3-4 games. Then you have to coach the whole team into a new tactical system. It's not easy especially when players get injured along the way. How long was it before players got used to LvG's tactics? It was nearly half a season.
-12-13 game complete change? Don't know what change and wouldn't be able to answer anyway.
-Player positions : I think Brendan likes to think he has a similar philosophy to "Cryuff's total football" where outfield players didn't have set positions. Just my interpretation of his comments in the past.
-Politics: if you mean media comments, I would suggest you ignore media comments they are not important. I thought Rodgers was an integral part of the committee anyway.

Which managers do you want as an upgrade? Klopp will have better offers I'm afraid so you can write that one off. De Boer is not available.
No point in changing managers until you have dealt with Scouting, recruitment policy and coaching I'm afraid.

Agree2 Disagree4

{Ed001's Note - so how do teams without an attack like that manage to make the pressing succeed? It is nothing to do with the attack at all. That is utter nonsense. It is nothing to do with the opposition sitting back, again nonsense. A pressure team FORCES the opposition back by hounding their players until they have no option but to pass back. Your whole post is based on the kind of crap spouted by Rodgers to excuse his lack of tactical knowledge.}

30 Apr 2015 09:14:39
RDL simple answer Suarez was worth at least 3 top player's he was 3players rolled into one he created a lot of his own goal's because not that many were set up for him, his set piece's was 2nd to none and he created so many goal's for other's ,put it this way last season with him in our side we had a threath up front who defender's were always had to be on their top game and even then it wasn't enough sometimes ,BR had it so easy with him in the team all he had to do was to play to Suarez's strength's even the player's we still have here we're made to look better Sturbridge is a prime example when he has played and been fit he has not looked like the player of last season you can put it down to his injuries or having a world class partner I put it down to having a world class partner ,BR could not replicate last seasons form or tactic's because last season was not down to him it was down to Suarez

I' really sorry Ed. Just an opinion, based on what I see at matches.
I didn't mean to upset you. I don't need or wish to excuse Rodgers. The poster asked a lot of questions, so rather than trot out the usual 1-liners about Rodgers being "pathetic, clueless, inept" I tried to give a more meaningful observation.
If people prefer the same inane answers of "sack the manager, he's a clown" etc then I'll refrain.
I like LFC and I support LFC. I don't want to beat the club down all the time.
Again, sorry for my alternative point of view.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - why are you acting like a blurt? I just pointed out that your 'alternative' point of view had serious flaws. Nothing alternative, just you making excuses for failure. You tried to make claims that had no substance to them, now you are getting all whiny because I pointed that out. If you want me to pussyfoot around your crap then forget it. If you make a good point I will just as happily point it out, but when you post nonsense I will point that out as well. Why get all childish about it? Stop being a victim, if you believe you are right, try and explain it, only you aren't going to be able to as you know I am right so you are acting like you are being victimised instead of discussing it.}

30 Apr 2015 10:12:24
Surely football is about opinions. I haven mine and it is based on what I see when I go to games. That's the only justification there is I'm afraid. If others see it differently then OK, I can accept that.
I'm not a victim or a child, I just apologised as it seems you were irritated/upset with my original post.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - how was I upset? Why would I be upset? I just disagreed with your excuses for the change in system. They are excuses as not one of them stands up to scrutiny. Bielsa got Chile playing a high press system with a team that should have been completely outmatched by the teams they were facing. He turned the team's weakness into strength by using the press to stop opponents attacking easily. That is what we did last season. Then we lose one player and suddenly we change system, why? All of the players we acquired are fully capable of playing in that system. In fact almost all of them played in teams that never had a Suarez and yet used the press to great effect, but you were claiming that not having that attacking threat nullified the press. My point is that you were making ridiculous claims that may be your opinion but they were completely nonsensical. You don't need an attacking threat to play a high press, but a high press can create an attacking threat by allowing you to regain the ball higher up the pitch where it hurts the opposition.}

30 Apr 2015 10:53:24
Ed001 - I was not referring to Bielsa retiring but Carlos Bianchi and José Pékerman.

Very successful managers.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The club is already a laughing stock - they will not be even in the slightest interest in Pékerman or Bianchi.}

30 Apr 2015 11:16:52
Indeed, as I said, 65 and 66 years old.

They have been very successful.

Why is the club a laughing stock ?

Fred Karno's Circus perhaps ?

What if Rafa was the only option ?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Why are you even mentioning these people who the club have zero interest in and are never going to be approached?}

30 Apr 2015 12:18:40

Let me first point out that I hope BR goes this summer.
Now with a lot of posts suggesting that BR is stubborn regards team selection. Do you think he could be putting two fingers up to FSG with the teams he's picking? As if to say look the players the committee are buying are not good enough? in fact so bad i'm going to play a midfielder in his position. The fans are not daft they will see what I'm doing and read between the lines. Just a thought?

29 Apr 2015 23:00:18
I thought that and looks that way recently with balotelli . But lfc comes first and do your job . It's not Rodgers fc .

30 Apr 2015 00:51:50
Why would he do that, because if true, it's a sure way to get yourself sacked?

Agree4 Disagree0

30 Apr 2015 01:21:17
I do worry with the mind games and are his insistence on the likes of ballo a two finger salute to those who were the ones who wanted hi.

And the recent marquee player thing can go two ways first off the club go and get them like we need, we need are own number 9 that other teams want and an injury free one and someone like depay to stomp into raheem that we can go and replace you, and if it's to be believed that united want him and we get him it would be a real strong signal of intent to say we are back competing with them, like the feeling I had when we got torres (when man u had wanted him) and suarez (when Tottenham had been linked for a few transfer windows) OR its the other way when Brendan leaves he can say I knew the club needed those type of.players but the owners didn't get me them (you know a lack of ambition by the club sort of thing)

So I don't know with that one but I said back in October it felt Brendan was doing it in spite with his team.selections and that like his press conferences completely changed like 'Were planning 5 games in advance' 'gerrard is definitely.starting next matvh' as he seemed to be each game.as it comes kid of guy and earn your place type during.previous seasons! And then he also stopped standing on the side lines during that period until palace when he stood throughout (and it's not a bad thing but during Previous seasons even.5-0 and cruising he never seemed to.sit.down) it seemed like a not my players not my problem. It's aall circumstantial and general observations but during that.period nothing felt right (if changed tactics for his own beliefs 'he had to find a way because the high press isn't sustainable and the diamond.was.worked.out end of.previous season' but i'd imagine he would of been more enthusiastic to make it work for his.own rep)

Just some.thoughts

If he is behaving that unprofessionally, he deserves to get sacked ASAP. But, I think it is just that Rodgers is simply not effective enough at his best.

30 Apr 2015 09:20:24
I have to agree with the real AG because if that's what he is doing then he isn't doing is job but it could just be he is not good enough I think Suarez carried him last season put it this way take Suarez's goal's and assists out of last season's team and see where it would have got us

So Ed do you think it's just a matter of time until he gets the sack? I have a horrible feeling he will waste even more money this summer and end up getting sacked in December, when there will be a lack of managers available willing to take the job

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I would be shocked if they don't act, the man is only going to take us backwards in the long term, his inadequacies are showing through now, but that is why you give them 3 years to show what they are really about. One good season and two awful ones show he is a fraud with a penchant for spouting idiotic and embarrassing comments.}

Ed1 are you convinced he is going mate? It's time for a change, let's hope we get someone better in.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I can not see how anyone looking at what is happening can say he deserves another year, when they have any knowledge of the game.}

30 Apr 2015 09:36:38
Carragher, Fowler, Dalglish have all said he deserves another season. I think they have knowledge of the game.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - all of whom are friendly with Rodgers and so biased in their viewpoint.}

30 Apr 2015 09:45:31
Realistically do you see Klopp as maybe next Liverpool manager Ed1 or De Boer?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I would give my right ball for Klopp to be in charge next season. We all know nothing I want the club to do ever happens, so it won't be him on that very basis. Realistically I think it will be one of the managers on the merry go round this summer, there are so many due to move I wouldn't be able to call it. I am told De Boer's star has waned this season and he is no longer the likely choice.}

29 Apr 2015 19:19:49
With Rodgers confirming to all that will listen via the press, all our players are playing for their future.

Does this include Henderson and Ibe with their new contracts? What about Countinho has he not been good enough, cause he made team of the year didn't he?

Why is Rodgers not managing for his future, just the players?

Agree4 Disagree0

29 Apr 2015 18:20:22
So just a few things to consider at the moment regarding Brendan Rodgers

1. At the start of this season, he believed that LFC will challenge for the title again and i quote:

“There is only an excitement and a belief inside the club that we can challenge again for the title this time."

So the Ed's can only be 100% correct when saying that Rodgers made promises to FSG about winning the league/challenging for the title. These comments were also made when all our spending was done with only Balotelli not at the club at that point.

2. Back in January this year Rodgers came out and said the following and I quote again:

"This season was always going to be difficult,"

"With so many changes and everything that's happened, we weren't going to challenge for the league this year. That's reality."

The absolute wummness of Rodgers 6 months later retracting from what he said at the start of the season clearly shows that his job was on the line?

Before Rodgers cowardly comments back in January Rodgers said this in November last year:

"I have a great communication line with the owners. We've been honest enough with each other, but ultimately you have to get results."

This is the type of manager we want to lead us into next season? Lead Liverpool Football Club?

This is his most recent comments:

"We have to look to improve the squad again which every big club will do," said Rodgers, whose side are not assured of Europa League football. "For fans and players it's great to get those marquee players.

"They're maybe the one or two we need and the owners will support that. If they're available and affordable within the model then we will look to get them.

"We won 10 out of 13 and were playing catch up for lots of the season and got ourselves in a great position.

"But we lost a couple of big games which did hurt our confidence a bit. The challenge for me for next year is building a team that can get through the rough waters as well. That will be critical for us. When there are times of season when it is tough, we have to get through that."

Please FSG, rid us of this clown!

I don't know why people hang on every word he says. All managers talk trash, they all say things they don't believe. It's all part of the game. They are trying to send messages to their opponents and to their own players. It's not a sworn affidavit, they are not under oath. It's part of the premier league soap opera and not intended to be truth.

Agree2 Disagree1

29 Apr 2015 18:04:04
I got absolutely destroyed on here in the summer saying with his injuries, Sturridge is a complete liability and the signings we'd made are not goalscorers.
Apparently we'd strengthened in other areas 'for example the defence' and although we'd score a few less we'd concede much less goals. Our goal difference is +10 now,, last season it finished +51.
Most thought selling Suarez was a good idea also, and we'd never do a Spurs. We was on the brink of something very special and we dismantled the team, changed the formation, bought a load of tosh players and are back to square one.
We have good owners,, but they make terrible choices. They must sack Rodgers and sack the committee, or every time we move a step forward, this lot will drag us 2 back !!

Agree8 Disagree0

30 Apr 2015 07:31:17
Agreed Davey.

The long term problem is at least 3 fold. Scouting, Recruitment and Coaching.
We identify the wrong players, players who don't improve the squad, don't fit the playing style and are not good enough to adapt.
When we do identify targets we either insult clubs with low offers or we pay over the odds for mediocre players.
When players do arrive at the club they immediately lose form and confidence.

I find it inconceivable that this is the fault of the manager alone and bringing any manager into this failing system will generate the same result as the last decade.

Agree4 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - except the manager should be checking out the players the scouts recommend, so he is the final scouting checkpoint before they move to recruitment. That is why managers like Rafa had so many duds, because he didn't check them out properly. It is the same with Rodgers, he is far too busy getting tans and teeth whitened to watch players.

The recruitment is an issue, but if the right players are being targeted, the prices paid wouldn't be such a big problem.

So the manager is far more of the problem than you are recognising. A change of manager can change everything. Look at Dortmund, Klopp took over a midtable team with a culture of failure and no money. Now they are disappointed at one season in midtable.}

30 Apr 2015 09:31:41
I don't think the owner's can be blamed for giving BR what he asked for they hired him so they will back him weather it be good or bad but they have to be given credit because they backed their word's up with action's

Agree2 Disagree0

30 Apr 2015 09:41:20
I agree a manager can change a great deal but there needs to be a culture change too. The system the manager comes into needs to be prepared to change. LFC's problems with recruitment and scouting and coaching goes back over a decade. There have been odd highs like Torres and Suarez but they have been huge exceptions. We probably have less than 5% success rate with recruitment in the last decade. That's more than the failings of 1 man.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - except that it has always been the manager who has been given the job of making the decision on recruitment, so it comes down to having the wrong man in charge. That is why FSG tried this stupid committee idea, instead of just finding the right man to run transfers. As for the coaching, it has improved in recent years, but again one man appoints the coaches, the manager, so again the quality of coaching is down to him.}

30 Apr 2015 10:16:15
So Evans, Houllier, Rafa, Dalglish all making the same mistakes with recruitment.
Hard to believe they were all bad managers.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - how is Evans involved? He was the last one not to have the final say in recruitment, so you have to remove him from the list.

Houllier was clearly inept in picking players, if they were young and French he believed they were going to be brilliant. He also brought in some woeful coaches.

Rafa trusted his scouts too much, he never saw Aqualani play, for instance, until after he arrived at the club. That is a terrible thing for a manager to do.

Dalglish should never have been appointed, first time round his success was massively due to Paisley looking over his shoulder. I love Dalglish but without Paisley the club went into its decline under Dalglish to begin with.

Anyway, it is not necessarily about being good or bad, it is about whether you fit into a club. Shanks was not tearing up trees at Huddersfield, but look what he did with Liverpool. Clough failed at Leeds but he was not a failure. Sometimes you just have to find the man that fits the club.}

29 Apr 2015 17:44:12
So just a thought and something I haven't seen discussed, what should we do with Sturridge? Keep him and hope that this season was a one off or try and cash in on him? Would anyone take him with his injury record? Also is there any blame to be held with the Liverpool fitness staff or is it a case that his injuries are for the most part unavoidable?

Believable0 Unbelievable13

29 Apr 2015 18:41:30
Depends who is available and willing to come in. If the right person is and the sale price isn't silly then sell him. If not hang on to him and until someone better comes along.

Agree1 Disagree13

29 Apr 2015 18:12:47
Why should there be any question of moving him on? When fit, he has shown he is top striker and the solution is to get another striker who can work individually and also play with Sturridge.

Agree21 Disagree0

29 Apr 2015 18:30:29
Martin Kelly is doing pretty well keeping himself fit at Palace. Played loads of games for them this season whereas at LFC he was a walking injury. Lallana has been a sick note?

We'll the doctor got sacked, it would be stupid to sell the only striker at the club who can score goals.

Agree18 Disagree1

29 Apr 2015 18:59:29
Valid points, max! To me, it is a bit of both. Some players have soft muscles and contantly suffer from that. What needs to be done is to calibrate their preparation, training regimen and games in order to get the best out of them. Studge is a very good player but as a club, we can`t rely on him to stay fit hence, a top striker is needed, ASAP. The fact that BR was given money to strengthen the attack YET wound up using Sterling as a striker shows how inept and incompetent he is in the TW and if any money should be given to an LFC manager next term, it should be to a new one.

Agree4 Disagree12

29 Apr 2015 21:16:55

Agree2 Disagree5

30 Apr 2015 07:34:20
The frustrating thing is LFC were managing him well. Then he went off to International games and they went against the advice of LFC who work with him on a daily basis. This caused his injury and ruined his season.
He'll be back next season, mark my words. Definitely keep him at the club!

As Max said martin Kelly has gone to palace and put his injuries behind him but does people remember Ledley King he never trained because his knees we're that bad so they tailored a special training regime for him but with Sturridge he has all different type's of injuries so it would be hard to do one for him he has been injury prone throughout his footballing days for me I would give him one more season to prove his fitness to the team so he can get down to doing his job and scoring lot's of goal's maybe that Suarez has gone he won't have another scoring season like last season

He keeps talking about progress - but we have blatently moved backwards since last year. The final straw is his comments about how we need a striker because we lost 50 goals due to suarez / sturridge situations. my 12 year old son and everybody else knew the moment we sold suarez for that large amount that obviously we need to fill the gap - lambert / ballotelli with borini there already - was never going to work. What a joke of a comment by BR today. We need a marquee signing???

He's an absolute cretin in the transfer market.

He had his chance for so called marquee signing last year coming of the back of a solid season in the league and having secured champions league! So what did he do with his absolutely ridiculously large war chest. bought squad players.

The man just doesn't have an eye for a quality player - you don't need to spend a fortune to get a top, top player. you just need to know what to look for. Sadly he hasn't a clue.

Really disappointed with this season, i mean how can you seriously try to kick on with Ballotelli as your new striker. ffs!

Unless someone seriously sorts the team out from back to front we are up the creak without a paddle. again.

Here's to another 'rebuilding' season. Only been happening for the last 15 years!

The biggest joke is we had all the cards in our hand to make a deal happen with Sanchez.

Rodgers hasn't a clue in the transfer market. Everyone goes on about the transfer team, but in his first year I'm sure his own signings included Borini and Allen?

We need a top quality manager, someone with an eye for talent and will give our great youth team the chance to thrive in the first team squad.

Klopp I would guess is beyond our reach? As much as we'd all love for it to happen. In my eyes, De Boer would be fantastic for us. His backroom team has a host of football legends, and he's not shy for giving youth a chance in the team.

I'm sure Liverpool knew very early on that Sanchez was never going to happen. Should have targeted a realistic target, if you can't replace with what you need then don't replace at all and give chances to what's already in your squad. A borini desperate to be given a run in the team after snubbing Sunderland would have been better than buying ballotelli for any amount of money.

I understand what happened entirely the player wanted to go to a nicer place than Liverpool but he didn't go to the nicest place he could have (Monaco) he went to an okay place with a team that were in for him. If intstead he was told its Liverpool or nowhere which barca could have done (with us holding all the cards) we had a player they wanted they had one they didn't want and that wanted to move it should have been very easy for barca to convince him 200 miles north isn't actually too different lad. He assessed his options and chose North London (awful place). His options should have been controlled by barca at our request no doubt about it

Last summer was the time to get the marquee signing, we could offer CL and coming off a good season.
In previous windows we heard "it's hard to attract big names without CL" but now it would seem that Brendan thinks this will be possible. However he does state "within budget & within our framework" so that rules out most "marquee" signings then!
Agree with most people on here that we should dispense with Brendan to start with. He does not be able to inspire the team, is questionable in transfer market, stubborn in his team selection & tactics plus a embarrassment in press conferences. He seems to have lost the dressing room, losing is not ideal, but it's how you lose & this year we have had little fight when we lose.
If at all possible I would chase Klopp, as he will be a free agent so I would guess no compensation would be payable to Dortmund so would offset any sum we would have to fork out to shift BR

Transfers don't work like that as the Eds have said. Blackmailing a player to move to a place/club he has no interest was never going to work out. What if he signed for LFC while he didn't fancy playing for us, and turned in performances like Balotelli's? That simply wasn't the solution, and LFC were not a position to make demands with Suarez adamant that he will not stay and wanted to leave.

Additionally, I don't for a second believe that Sanchez chose Arsenal over LFC because just of Geography; the fact that Arsene Wenger is a far better manager than Rodgers has probably something to do with it too.

Players aren't slaves, song, you can't force them to go somewhere against their will. Sanchez had no interest, it is what it is. The problem is, as AG says, why our list went from A(lexis) to B(alotelli). Only thing I can think of is they went in alphabetical order as nothing else makes sense.

Still deflecting and spinning as usual. Did he comment on how dreadful we`ve been since the City game? NO! Did he comment on how we just rolled over vs Hull when we just played a game like a practice match or with no desire and guts? NO! All he did was deflect and in some ways, remove himself from the transfer debacle he has overseen by making that stupid comment. By making such a comment, he just indicted the owners` intelligence as well because afterall, he conned them into releasing the funds when he knew they didn`t trust him with money to begin with BUT had to because they wanted success this year. If he thinks the owners would take kindly to a man whose belief system is the "I confess, he did it" mantra, he is dreaming.

Aguero? Messi? Ronaldo? Neymar? Hazard? I don't think we had any chance of signing a direct replacement for Suarez. We had no choice but to try and improve the squad.
However, we made a pig's ear out of that.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - we could have tried to improve the team, not the squad. The squad would have been improved simply by having players that had been first team sat on the bench anyway. Only a fool buys squad players when the team is not complete.}

And not only that supermario, this Marquee was to have in built solar panels that turned light into warmth. Also inflatable seats pumped full of warm air, with an individual thermostatically controlled knob on its side. Also the idea was to have an American style system where scantilly clad ladies would bring trollies along the footwalks with hot food and drinks. However Liverpool Council blocked it, because of the cost, even though FSG would go half. Council said FSG had to fund it all. Also the area would be down valued with such a ugly big tent. And the pubs couldn't compete either as they had an idea for a beer tent for after the match that sold lager and cider for less than £2 a pint. If you like bitter . go to the Everton tent.

Yesterday was our 25th year of failing to win the top flight since our last win. and it made me wonder how bad that actually was until I found some interesting stats on the internet.

The following is from 6th worst gap to the very worst gap between wins:-
6] Man United: 29 seasons between winning the title in 1911 and their next triumph in 1952
5] Burnley: 31 seasons between winning the league in 1921 and their next title in 1960
4] Man City: 43 seasons between winning the title in 1968 and 2012
3] Chelsea: 49 seasons between winning the title in 1955 and 2005
2] Aston Villa: 59 seasons between winning the title in 1910 and 1981
1] Blackburn Rovers: 71 seasons between winning the title in 1914 and 1995

It didn't placate me about our situation but it did make me laugh about the wait some had to put up with. and it made me realise that I can't really get vexed at them for having a joke yesterday (and probably the rest of the season) at our still waiting status.

Amongst all the negativity I just want to congratulate a handful of players:

1. Mingolet for Turning his fortunes around and actually looking like a good keeper since January.

2. Henderson for playing more games than any outfield player in Europe and still maintaining consistency. I believe it's 7 goals and 14 assists? Not much more you can ask from a midfielder who doesn't take penalties.

3. Coutinho for being magical all season. The way he links every attack together and scores some massive goals for us is unrivalled.

4. Ibe for making a breakthrough despite about £100m worth of players being signed for his position since Rodgers took over.

5. Can for willingly playing out of position all season and never moaning despite being one of Europes brightest young midfielders. Hopefully he is managed better next year.

Sadly, these are the only 5 players I can legitimately compliment. Sterling perhaps, but he's been pretty poor by the standards he set last year and brought too much negative media attention to the club with a lot of help from Brendan and Stevie.

I've written off this season now though lads. Last nights game actually made me laugh. It's not even suprising anymore; you literally have to laugh or cry. Time to look forward to next season because I can't see us taking anything more than 4-6 points from the remaining games.

EMS, I will definitively add Luca. He was one of BR’s out of favor, and he proven him wrong. In a good proportion, our season ‘s turning point was thanks to him. As always he gave a quiet leadership by his example, and was the perfect piece to reshape our awful first half season defense. He gave sacrifice, balance, correct reading of the game, covered the spaces left by his teammates, and gave more freedom to the 2nd and/or 3rd CMs to create. His compliment was so clear that in a space of 5-8 games the club decided to block his transfer.

Can I ask what it is you are looking forward to next season? Is it more of BR in charge? Another season of poor purchases, poor performances, players being played out of position, shocking tactics and all ending with reviews where only a few players can hold their heads up in any way, again?

Or are you looking forward to the club clearing out the manager and his back room team and maybe getting someone in who will make use of the talent we have in the club. Maybe a manager who has a back room team who can coach defenders and attackers. Maybe a guy who knows good players at reasonable prices (Dutch, German, Belgian etc etc players) as that's all we can afford now after the reckless spending over the last few seasons.

Just wondering what you are actually looking forward too?

Ok so its pretty clear that this seasons drop in league position is due to the manager & transfer teams failure to secure the right attacking players in the last two transfer windows. But overall are we performing that much worse in all areas?

Defensively we've actually looked better this year. We've scored less but conceded less.

In the big games we've struggled, CL was poor as were both our games against Man Utd. Nowhere near last years demolition jobs.

We've not found the net in the games against weaker sides too, Hull being the prime example.

Overall it means we are not far off being top four. We've got some fantastic young attackers for the future, Markovic, Ibe, Lallana, Sterling? Sturridge?

Last year we exceeded expectation and this year its back to reality.

We need a bit more patience. Give Rodgers more time (unless Klopp will come), get in a strong DoF to help him.

I think the frustrating thing is for years we have only been a small step away from really properly competing, and it just hasn't been properly addressed. Last summer was a real opportunity to create some financial balance and squad stability by putting the touches to a team who can consistently compete at the top level and we just didn't spend wisely enough to do this. So now it seems we are no further than we were when BR took over a few years back. We are always so close, but not close enough.

We spent some important money on very young players, Markovic, Can and Origi who represent about £40 million, I think all of those players will have improved second seasons, obviously Origi didn't play for us in this campaign so no need for tea leaf studying on that one, Can has played in a secondary position to his favoured central mid position and Markovic has looked pretty lightweight.

I remember Henderson being maligned by many a fan in his first season and much of his second at that. So there is potential for growth within those three for our first team, which is important to keep in mind I believe.

The likes of Lallana, Lovren, Balotelli and Lambert haven't really done it for us consistently, whether because of injury, quality or fitting into a system that simply isn't suiting the players, although I think Lovren has gotten better than when he first arrived.

So, I'm hoping and looking to next season with a few additions such as a half consistent strikers to help chip in with the goals. That's where I'm at.

AIN`T going to HAPPEN under these guys. They want success and have put their money where their mouth is. They have been duped by people they trusted and who took advantage of their thoughtfulness like BR conned them into releasing the funds even tho, they did not trust him BUT had to in order to you know. WIIN. They will not tolerate failure because they are not Mike Ashley that is, not interested in the money they make on transfers and God bless them. Agree1 Disagree0

It's like a double millstone around our necks.
What you ask?
Our history - plain and simple.
If there's one problem with Liverpool supporters (and this is one writing with more than enough years to qualify as one) it's that we bag on and on and on and on and on and on and on . about what we've won as we drift through season after season after season without getting any closer to a title or European glory.

No wonder Man U fans and the arrogant newbies in London laugh at us and say we live in the past. For the first time in many years I sadly have to agree with them.

We have thrown hundreds (yes, count it!) of millions of ££££ away on people like Balotelli, Lambert, Aquilani, Lovren and a score of others and hoped something might click and we would win the PL title. Flops! It is not the way we play and certainly not our ability to scout a good prospect (Coutinho, Can and Sterling) but the dross we surround them with. A team comprises 11 on the pitch and good 8 off it. When did we ever have that great 11 in the past 20 years?

Joe Allen was bought on the manager's whim and yet he has never driven the midfield like Henderson or Gerrard has. Lovren - don't start me on him; Balotelli and Lambert - really? It seems as though The Arrogant One and even our old mate Obscene Whinger look to fill the team with quality, while we have tinkered and dropped in a few lightweights to make the 11.

The problem with football is that we are all experts. The pundits are simply old players with bitterness and self-interest guiding their mouths and brains; managers the men who buy 2 good players and then want the supporters to adore them when the rest of the team is crap! Brenda R puffed out his chest and announced HE would the man to tame and bring out the best in Balotelli! Yet he was the one who also thought it wise to fill the bench with people like Borini and Lambert!

If BR stays (and he will if we look at it coldly) then Johnson goes, Balotelli possibly and who do we persist with? Sterling is heading for the departure lounge with his golden ticket in hand; maybe Coutinho has second thoughts and Can (a tremendous asset) might think of returning to the Bundesliga with Dortmund or Bayern rather than hammer himself into the ground fighting alongside Allen and an untried Origi.

But hey - we've won 5 European Cups and we have history! You're damn right we have but probably no future worth shouting about. Then again, BR or the new manager might have another £50 million to blow away on some PL player from Hull, Burnley or Crystal Palace who has shone brightly for three minutes this year and dazzled the manager.

No other sport sacks people for being poor at the job and then hires them for another team like we do in football. Every person at the top of the game thinks they can do better. Are you really telling me that BR's skills in pikcing a team are superior to mine, yours, that bloke in Bootle, Coventry or Peckham who supports Liverpool? Becuase if you are, then explain to me how he can play Markovic out of position, use Sterling as a wing back and think Lambert will undo fast defences? Maybe I'm the one who knows bugger all about the game (along with the Bootle, Coventry and Peckham fans)?

No.
Come the start of next season when the manager has splurged another £30 million on average and potential, then he'll be banging on about how is "they year we win the PL" . just like in 2001, 2004, 2006, 2014 and hey . "we've won 5 European Cups mate!"

Interesting to see Rodgers come out 2day claiming we need marquee signings he's only a season to late. We were so close to winning the title all we needed was a couple of quality signings and we would have been competing for the title again but instead he just starting throwing money about buying players who we didn't really need and players with limited experience at the highest level. Now when we don't have the draw of the champions league and being the most exciting team to watch in England like we were last season he thinks we'll be able to go for 'marquee' players. what an idiot.

Have you ever thought that Rogers wanted marquee signings last season, but either the club wouldn't pay the money asked
or the wages demanded. Or maybe the players themselves didn't want to come to us. Sanchez, Saleh and Costa spring to mind. To blame Rogers for the lack of marquee signings is a bit much. The blame lies with the people who negotiate the money side of things

{Ed002's Note - The interest in Costa was from the season before as a replacement for Suarez. Salah was hardly a marquee signing.}

BR is a politician who takes responsibilas banging on about how top players will come to us and all of a sudden, is nhow said top players need to be signed. He`s had over 200m to spend sinc he`s been here including 100m this season alone so what did he do with all that money? And the academy? He had to be ordered to use Ibe otherwis that kid would still prolly sold in a year. He sent Kelly off to CP and loaned Wisdom to WB, then buys Manquillo from AM`s adademy who not only can`t get a game here to the point that we have to play Can at RB, Kelly was actually better than he is because he is having a very good season at CP. If BR was a politician, he would be charged with misapropriation of state funds. I would not bother trying to give him any benefit of the doubt because frankly, he does not deserve it due to his self-serving, arrodeluded attitude. Did i also mention he was a clueless manager?

It says he is clueless, self serving and is a rank poilitician who absorbs himself of blame everytime and would trash his own mother to save himself from public scrutiny. He has used the Suarez excuse at almost every turn that it has become a broken crecord. Ask your self this, Pirate? When will BR take responsibility for the first time of his LFC career? He will NEVER do that because he doesn`t have it in him. the facts are there to prove he is useless and incompetent and saying balo is not BR`s mistake is immoral. He stood by and let it happen instead of standing up and sayin, "NO WAY, JOSE" on the Balo arrival and as the managerso he is guilty of it because had it worked out, he would NEVER say he did not want him here. Hi Ed002,

I just saw your reply to Alex YWNA about the pan-European breakaway league and thought it was really informative and I would just like to say thanks on behalf of us fans for your relentless work.

However, I would just like to ask a question on that topic: what will be the effects of that pan-European breakaway on Liverpool specifically? I understand that you might not want to speculate (too much) but if you could give us an insight on what you think will happen to our beloved club, it will be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - It very much depends when it happens and who the owners are at the time. The game has changed significantly and will continue to do so. Football at the highest level is big business and attracts the sponsorship it does because the sponsors wish to tap in to the disposable income of the fans and ride the back of the advertising that flows naturally from the success some clubs achieve. Long gone are the days of the cloth-capped, hobnailed-booted, chimney sweep making his way, rattle in hand, to cheer on his team at Anfield on a Saturday afternoon. I have explained that there will be changes, probably within the next 10 to 12 years, which will force the restructuring of all of the leagues in Europe and likely do away with the likes of UEFA. You will have the opportunity to see the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus and the other major European sides play in week-on-week regular competition at The Emirates, Stamford Bridge etc.. You will have the opportunity to visit Milan, Barcelona, Monaco, etc. every couple of weeks to watch your team play - if they make the cut. If you want to don your cloth cap, have a pint of wallop with your chums before going off to the local match, perhaps one of the sides from the suburbs will have survived so you can go and watch them?

For me, clubs should already recognise this and put their efforts in to getting back to the EPL, Championship and SPL in order to look secure an eventual place in the top two tiers of a British professional league that will need to flourish without perhaps six sides that have gone down the pan-European route - and have gone for good.}

When the cameraman went to Balotelli icing his swollen foot after being taken off last night did anyone notice the commentator say that oh Liverpool will be short of options up front now with Sturridge out and if Balotelli is out.

Well does anybody not notice that Lambert and Borini are there and have been looking for matches all season. Both signed by Rodgers.

He's only playing one up top so I still don't see how we could be short of options. Whether or not those options are good enough is a different matter. I for one would have given Borini a lot more chances this season and I still think signing Lambert was a good idea.

Totally agree. Borini got dropped after a decent game against Madrid and hasn't featured much since. Lambert got dropped after scoring. To get strikers some confidence you actually need to give them a run in the team, not replace them with midfielders.

Agree9 Disagree0

29 Apr 2015 11:28:54
Balotelli's style never suited Rodgers best and most successful tactics, the high pressing game. Borini suits this down to the ground and he should have got more games.

Lambert doesn't suit that style but he did play in a similar system last season at Southampton and at the price paid for him I think he was a good idea for a different option, mainly as backup and coming off the bench.

Can playing defence drove me mad as well last night, it's clear Hull targeted him and attacked his side in the first half (playing RB) but he was having some succuess going forward. The "attacking" substitution taking off Lovren and bringing on Markovic was a terrible idea. Can was shackled even more going in to CB and then Markovic playing RB in a back four is just a bad idea.

Man City brought on defensive midfielders for strikers last season and moved Yaya Toure further up the pitch. On paper it may come across as defensive but it worked a treat from an attacking point of view.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Apr 2015 12:22:19
Swishcleaner why is it any different for Balotelli? All I've seen this season from Lambert was a clueless striker most of the time. And Borini is simply far from good enough. The same goes for Balotelli but he poses much more threat than the 2.

Agree0 Disagree3

29 Apr 2015 13:48:33
Lambert hasn't looked great but when he scored he was dropped. The one time he deserved a game and a run and BR blew it. Borini plays a high pressing game so up top with a second striker at least we could have won the ball back higher up the field and forced errors. Again, when he had his best game he was dropped immediately after. Balo is more talented than both but doesn't suit our style ( pressing game) or playing as a lone striker. His confidence is also shot but in his sub appearances he's looked decent. Unfortunately I didn't see the last two games when balo started so not sure how he's done lately.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Apr 2015 14:46:18
I'm not arguing about tactics. I'm arguing about the players per se. Lambert is not good, Borini is not good, Balotelli is not good. Out of the three the most dangerous is Balotelli. I can also argue that when Sturridge was fit Balotelli showed his true self, but wasn't used as much as partner to Sturridge.
Borini or Lambert with the style we play(one striker), would have most of the time have the same, if not worst, result as using Balotelli. Borini after all those years isn't a Liverpool level(not even as a sub) striker. He can only press. Our mistake was that we didn't push for his sale when Sunderland wanted to keep him.

Agree1 Disagree1

29 Apr 2015 19:59:15
And who bought these "poor" strikers you all speak of? Yeah, that would be the same guy who keeps moaning that he needs a top striker YET when he had a chance to get them like rem or Bony (who are NOT top strikers BUT wwould do a lot better than the guys mentioned YET BR said NO to them), he choked and did not. The manager is at fault here for the upteenth time and nobody else because the players did not sign themselves. Somebody bought them and allowed them in and the manager should not be allowed the benefit of the doubt here. Remember the quote, "No player will come in here that the manager doesn`t want'. Yeah, that would be the same guy bitching about how Balo was not his choice. BR should save his doublespeak for those who care and for his many apologists because for those of us who argue based on facts, he`s wasting his time.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Apr 2015 07:36:25
And this is our difference. He didn't bought or oversaw the transfer of Balotelli, because they throw this to him without wanting(according to Macca and who will I believe you or Macca?). He wanted someone better than Balotelli and they gave him Balotelli. So who is the criminal here? BR or the club aka transfer committee aka the owners?
Also who rejected Remy BR? Or the club aka transfer comittee aka the owners? Bony would have been better but he would have cost much more without offering that much. Instead of throwing their all to buy a strong name of a striker they were playing around. And this is not just BR's fault as he can't do whatever he wants.
BR bought Lambert as a cover 3rd striker. He was not bought to play week in week out and he is not a bad striker if you have others who score consistently and he doesn't have the burden to take us out of the mud every week.
I said repeatedly BR made mistakes, but I'm not throwing it all out to him without looking at the big picture or the behind the scenes just like you people do.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Rodgers rejected all the other options so got stuck with having to take Balotelli. At the end of the day he could have had Remy or Bony, he chose not to go for either.}

One more win from the remaining four games for both Manchester clubs, should be enough to cement Champions League football. That's even if you win three and draw against Chelsea.

If we get Champions League next season it will be massive for us MU fans. We will spend big this summer regardless, but it will be much easier to get our targets now.

Clyne, Hummels, Depay, Gundogan and a top notch striker would be nice and would fill some big gaps in our unfinished team. Although if we miss out on Depay to PSG then so be it.

It seems we are finally getting over the loss of the great man and his poor replacement of last season and things are looking up again. Finally!

It will be difficult for you guys, especially now BR has wasted all of your cash or shall I say some of your cash and a lot of the owner's cash.

Time for a new manager and a new start, but don't lose faith as you finished 2nd last season. It could happen again if the new manager creates the right formula.

I think Blind and Herrera have been impressive at times this season. Shaw struggled with homesickness, but seems to have gotten over that recently. Di Maria will be better next season. Falcao will probably be swapped for someone like Benzema or Cavani so to speak, unless Monaco accept a much lower price for him. Cannot see it myself.

I think the dinosaur will probably get one more season and then we will go for someone like Pep, Klopp or Ancelotti if available the season after. It would be tough getting any of them, but I think that's what the club may try to do. I think Rojo, Blind, Herrera, Shaw and Di Maria will be better next season. As will Wilson.

Gundogan and/or Blind would be Carrick's long-term replacement. We will replace RvP this summer, we also have Wilson who will be an amazing striker. I think Clyne will be an improvement on Valencia. Young would be replaced by Depay and Di Maria can play there.

After we finish our transition this summer, we will not need to spend big for a long time, although we can afford to spend big every two seasons if we wanted to and still have change. By 2017 MU will be turning over £500m+ in revenues. We can afford to rebuild whenever we need to.

Hi eds,
Have seen a few posts written about an eventual breakaway european league. If this were to happen, how would the teams within each tier be selected and decided upon?
Would it be completely objective and just use the european rankings or would the more powerful richer teams make the decisions dependent on which team they thought would make the league most marketable and competitive?
Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It remains very much a now issue Alex with regular discussions on the matter between a dozen or more clubs.

Without going in to too much detail: (a) A number of clubs take the opportunity a once or twice a year to discuss various issues including changes in rules, television rights, the power of UEFA, exploitation issues for new technology streams, etc.. These discussions, the last of which were in late March in Monte Carlo, also always turn to the possibility and structure of a breakaway pan European league. Several are ex-G14 clubs, several are not, and some clubs decline involvement in such discussions. The next meeting will be toward the end of August. (b) The plan is that at some point a number of clubs would break away from their national leagues and UEFA. They accept that they would be banned from all existing club competition and the players would initially be banned from all FIFA competitions as well, but know that FIFA would be looking to negotiate in any case. It would be the end of UEFA in all probability and UEFA are very aware of this. It would also result in a restructuring of many of the national leagues. (c) The clubs would renegotiate their television rights, rights of distribution via other streams etc.. (d) It remains the greatest fear of UEFA and all major national authorities that one day this will happen. (e) Timing wise, two very prominent clubs want it to happen as soon as possible (2018) but most are looking at 2022 being a good option. Realistically, a few clubs are looking at 2025 to 2027 and I suspect that could end up as the reality.

There is every likelihood that the big money from television, sponsorship etc. would go with a breakaway league. It would completely rupture the operations of UEFA and I would expect it would require national associations like the FA to restructure their leagues. Nobody wants this but it is the eventual consequence I would expect. Initially it could be that there is a single 16 team league with 2 or 3 EPL teams making the initial plunge. If I had to speculate, I would think (1) you might eventually see something like five or six EPL teams leave for two-tier pan European league - but it won't be based on the UEFA rankings; (2) the Premier League would be disbanded as an organisation; (3) the FA would restructure in to two 20 team divisions with lower leagues regionalised as they were many years ago; (4) FIFA would ban all players from the breakaway teams from International football - perhaps rescinding that position to stop FIFA breaking up as well. I could also see many teams lose their professional status. I would think we are probably 10 years away from any significant move at this time.

I hold a reasonably strong view in terms of the need to restructure football in Europe in any case. For me an eventual a breakaway pan-European league would force the restructuring of many of the national leagues, possibly resulting in a British league with perhaps only a couple of professional tiers and then regionalised amateur leagues below that. Financially I do not see that so many pro sides can be sustained within the sport which, like it or not, will see more and more money going in to the highest levels of the game. Governments will ensure that grassroots sport get funding but everything in the middle (Southern, Northern, Conference, Division 2, Scottish Divisions 1-3, League of Wales will not get the funding needed to continue on any sort of professional basis.}

29 Apr 2015 12:01:27
Ed002 you know I love you and respect you as a man/woman, but it just won't happen because before 2025 we are going to be
(a) hit by a massive asteroid which will throw up huge plumes of dust into the atmosphere and set upon us another ice age,
(b) be wiped out by a malevolent race of aliens intent on destroying all mankind,
(c) be beseiged by the wrath of the almighty for being horrible to thy neighbours in the form of a flood which will (you've guessed it) wipe out all of mankind.
In any event the game of kicking a pigs bladder filled with air around a pitch will no longer take centre stage. This is one of the reasons why footballers are renegotiating contracts for more money so they can build their own Arks. UEFA are aware of this and are stipulating that a UEFA member must be on each Ark.

This is the conspiracy site right? .

Thanks for such a detailed post ed, really informative.
I was just curious as obviously there are some big sides in terms of fan base and history such as Man u, Liverpool, Everton, inter, AC milan, dortmund etc who are good sides but based on current league standings or rankings etc would not be in with a shout of making a top european league and possibly even struggle to make a two tier league system.
Think there would be some positives to a break away as the division and tension between UEFA, FA, Premier league, FIFA would no longer be an issue and the closure of UEFA as a whole would not sadden many people i wouldn't have thought. Although it may mean some of the lower league teams struggle it may overall benefit the system of football in this country as I own a community football academy and the issues at grassroots level with the sheer amount of pro clubs and their desperation so sign the next top talent messes up a lot of player development and is of little benefit to most kids

I hate to put the focus on the owners, but it will be firmly on them this summer once again. They have tried to make this club successful, but under FSG, LFC have had a 1. A tried and tested manager who knows the English league well and only needed an opportunity at a bigger club to show his credentials - Roy Hodgson, 2. A manager who the fans craved - Kenny Dalglish, and a 3. A young un-proven manager with a 180 page dossier who only wanted a big team, time and money to show what he can do. And all 3 has failed. Now, they can chose to keep Rodgers or chose to bring in someone who is the best fit for the club. If bring in a new manager, they hopefully consider the past failures under their own term and realize there is no substitute for pedigree, experience and quality.

So only thing left to play for is Europa league really, curious to think if fans want us to qualify for it?

I know it has negatives in that it can fatigue teams and is seen as a second rate tournament.

But Tbf thought that's always been arrogance by most english clubs as Tbf a lot of big english teams have played in it and only chelsea won it, plus offers CL footy, a trophy, and extra revenue (though no where near what CL offers) plus get to see your team play more!

Added to that even if we have a clear out still will have a big squad so can play ojo Sinclair rossiter Markovic ilori wisdom Ibe etc if they are playing in the league and give them a platform to impress - seemed to well for Arry Kane!

So tbh would like us to qualify and use reserves or academy players for the group - or do you think its better to have the advantage of a full week for league games and try get the title?

Liverpool should take the Europa League seriously. And so should the fans. I have seen embarrassing comments about hoping not to be involved i Europa League by LFC fans. If one thing was clear from this season abysmal CL campaign, it is that a lot of these players simply don't have continental experience and they could do with a year of of that. it does put extra pressure on players but i believe that is why we spent 150 million to have a bigger squad.

In an ideal world we could take it very seriously, but top four is a must. Added to that the group stages in fairness normally have 1 good team (from italy, germany, portugal or spain) and then two teams that fringe/academy players team should be able to beat.

Personally hope we qualify for it and think we can navigate the group stages by rotating the squad. Spurs did it fairly well this season and tbh think we have more depth then them, we have a fair amount of players who didn't get game time this season adn a lot of academy players or players returning on loan who deserve a chance to show their quality. Think the group stages for europa league and cup games are a great platform for it.

Added to can field 1 or 2 of our normally starting XI for experience, resting, or to nurse back from injury as is a lot of games. Then when knock outs come in field much stronger teams.

Good question Roland. If he stays then yes so he can gain experience in Europe and he can play some of those players that cost over 200 million which may help either sell them for a decent amount or give them an opportunity to shine. If he goes them I'd rather have a new manager concentrate on getting us into the top 4, not messing around with Thursday games when he should be trying to work out how's he going to beat the likes of Hull and WBA at the weekends.

Sorry, but Europa league prize money is very small when compared with the amount of disruption caused to domestic competition, a Thursday game before the weekend is not good preparation, so if the choice is a decent domestic campaign or a good run in the Europa league, I would take a decent campaign in the league. I don't consider that to be an embarrassing opinion to have, just realistic.

I see where your coming from Swish.
I was probably only thinking of the first few games, but as you've said. When this carries on into the season it could well become a hinderence.

I'd like to think a top manager could cope with the squad at his disposal tho.

I think we should take the EL serious and get the player's some European experience it will also be ideal to use the young player's who are stepping up to the 1 St team ,we can then use the other 1st teamers in the prem game's its will also help player's get match fit or need to regain their form but that's just what I think about it ,otherwise the player's who need to get match fit or find their form will have to do it in league game's which won't be good for the team

LFC, it's players, managers and supporters should be looking to win every game. Fowler knows the fans pay enough money to watch the games and the players should be trying to win.
If that means we end up in the Europa League this season then we should be trying to win the Europa League next season. I just cannot understand why any fan would want us to lose games? Do you go to the match and sit there hoping we lose so we don't qualify for the Europa League?

Bonkers!

I hope the owners have lost faith in BR as many fans have. Another awful performance last night and BR blames anybody but himself. His press conferences just get more and more embarrassing. The only way you can argue you lose 50 goals by one player leaving is by deleting the striker and playing with 10.or playing cr@p with 11 players due to a poor overall transfer strategy (not the players themselves, just the positions we chose to fill), no game plan (and abandoning everything that worked before), and tactical ineptitude.

I can accept Suarez was worth say perhap 20 extra goals a year but the rest was at least in large part due to strategy, team selection etc.

We win, it`s BR`s credit. We lose, it`s Suarez`s fault for skipping town in the dead of night w/o a soul knowing about it. This guy is seariously losing it.

PS why has balotelli suddenly become our main striker again? and allen in midfield yet again? DUH . 34 games into the season and he yet can't figure out his 1st team. 10 shots on target 6 by henderson !!

It is funny and football is a fickle game, just suck it up lads and keep supporting your team . I am just as annoyed as you are but Rogers is a top coach in my humble opinion . He does need to shut his mouth though. The transfer committee is the thing I have an issue with, they need to be held accountable for where we are

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed023's Note - The manager gave the green light to every transfer and oh yes he is also a member of the committee. He has failed miserably this season and must be let go. He has made mistake after mistake. He said two semi-finals and 5th is a good season for this club and just recently said we will challenge for the title next season. That statement was also made between a boring draw at West Brom and an even worse display at Hull.}

29 Apr 2015 20:25:09
Yes, the commitee need to be accountable. It just so happens that BR is a big part of that commitee hence, if they are sacked then he should be sacked as well, right dub? And BR being a top coach? That is defo a windup post because facts show a complete opposite of that theory.

I'm not going to lie, I feel sorry for Rogers. I saw what he was trying to do with Liverpool, and he had us playing the best attacking football in years at times. But his stubbornness and persistence with playing systems or formations that don't work has shot him in the foot. This along with recruitment had been his downfall. I saw what he wanted to do, and saw glimpses of greatness and wanted it to work out for him and this club, but it simply hasn't worked out. 3 seasons is enough in modern football.

I would feel sorry for him if he was actually trying to do his job. The prob is he seems to be good at everything else APART from doing his job. if he was cutting out his mistakes, getting the best out of his players on a consistenct basis, giving yout a chance and not wasting money on players we don't need yet results were not coming, many of us would understand because his heart would be in the rightplace. That is not the case. he seems only interested in his own image, self-angradizement and always absorbs himself of any blame for his faults of which there are many. he had my support and have defended him numerous times in the past UNTIL I saw him for what he really is: a politician and and inept manager who would trash his own mum in order to save his image in the public eye. A guy like that cannot be trusted.

Rodgers should have been sacked the day he put the second string out against Madrid in CL. That was just criminal. He showed he didn't understand the club and occasion by doing that.

Since then, despite the good run of form for 2/3 months, he has shown ineffective tactics, the inability to learn from mistakes, played players in positions where they aren't at their best and at the tail end of the season, fails to inspire the players.

Blaming the squad?!? - he spent over £100million

Blaming the occasion got to the players after the cup semi v Aston Villa - Isn't his job to prepare the players? don't players want to play in these games?

I actually think we have a good squad ( a lot of deadwood no doubt - ALOT). I just feel Rodgers isn't the man to bring the best out of them.

The job is simply too big for clueless Brendan. Someone needs to tell him that uttering fancy words does not mean he is doing a good job. He has made a utter mess of the situation and still will not accept the blame. Just look at his team selection and the positions he puts his players in.
1)Can at RB while Manquillo and Mclaughlin are available for selection?
2) Markovic was playing RB when he came on.
3) Can at CB???
4) Allen at CDM when Williams could have been given a chance.
5) Sterling out wide when his best position is behind the striker and everyone except Brendan knows this.
6) Takes off Ibe who apart from Coutinho was our only goal threat against Hull, while Sterling stays on inspite of doing absolutely nothing in the game.
7) Ignoring Borini even though he offers more than Lambert and Balo.
8) Reverted back to 4-3-3 formation which served the team so badly in the first 3 months of the season.

Enough is enough. I really do not see how Mr Henry would still want a chump managing the club after all that has happened. Fingers crossed that the club cuts its losses and moves on to better things which will not happen while Brendan is still around.

Forget everything I've said before about Rodgers. We were very poor tonight, we lacked passion and commitment, drive and purpose in our play. We crumbled under minimal amounts of pressure, then I see the highlights of the German Cup. You don't see Rodgers with those levels of passion and humility that Klopp displayed, that is something that has been lacking, something that we need and want. Klopp is a weird blend of spiritual and scientific in terms of his approach to management and overall, he seems to be both friendly kind and nice to players/fans/media yet he carries himself with an aura of ferociousness a person not to be crossed or easily outwitted(basically Mourinho and his mind games would fail, also players would want to come play for him because of his personality), essentially the perfect character and the best manager for the job if Rodgers is relieved of his duties.
I know this sounds rash and like a love in with Klopp, but I truly think he is the only man for the job. Sign him up!

Agree2 Disagree0

29 Apr 2015 05:39:37
mate words right out of my mind. i logged in today to mention jardim and there it is the first post is about him.
i think he is really a good coach. given Monaco are not killing it in french league, but his is one defensively mean team having conceded just around 23 goals in 34 league games and just 1 goal in 6 champions league group games. and it has to said here that most people here won't even have heard of players Monaco have in that defence. i think he would bring a lot to Liverpool firstly and fore-mostly doing away with the defensive naivety we have had for 3 years straight. I am not really not sure that playing attractive attacking football is the way ahead, unless we are defensively obstinate, i don't think we would be winning anything. but the only problem with Jardim could be he would require major time to get us running and perhaps he might not be able to attract any big names that perhaps a Klopp could. also he has really taken over the good work done by ranieri at Monaco, at LFC he wouldn't really be taking over any good work, it working from the scratch. still with no falcao , he has done wonders with a very young team. most players in monaco are 20-24ish

Agree4 Disagree1

29 Apr 2015 06:39:58
The French league is notoriously weak. If he is not pulling up trees there then he has no chance in the premier league.
To have a good defensive record in France is no barometer of success and how many years of success has he had?

Too big a gamble, unless we can attract a world class manager, it is not worth sacking Rodgers.

29 Apr 2015 07:57:59
i am not sure how french ligue is a notoriously weak league? psg beat chelsea , monaco beat arsenal, their is perhaps the only league that will go down to the wire as to who will win it and has competition at almost every level. i don't think if we talk in terms of level/ quality of football, if anything french ligue is hard and most competitive this season. There is a club like PSG which has quality at almost all levels , which isn't having it is easy, unlike in other leagues where top clubs are just toying away with the league. i think french league this year has been a breath of fresh air this season for european football.
