West Ham are also prepared to pay Carroll's £80,000-a-week wage and could face competition from Aston Villa and Fulham. But the England international, as has been the case all summer, does not want to leave Liverpool for any of those three clubs and only a late change of heart will enable Rodgers to further his interest in Walcott, with whom he shares an agent.

Eds this a copy and paste from the guardian. Is it true Rodgers and Walcott share an agent? I googled it and all i found was Rodgers never used an agent when coming to Liverpool to save us a few quid.

Here is a quote from Brendan regarding Carroll. Tells me he is on his way out...

The manager added: "You don't need to be a rocket scientist to see that Andy has been a cover player for us. He has been excellent in terms of his attitude and his acceptance of where he is at but, for us as a football club, and I am talking generically here, I'm not sure we are in a position to have £35m players as third choice strikers or wingers who might be on £5m-£6m a year. I don't think the football club is in that position. {Ed052's Note - I'm not sure about the agent. Carroll will not go on loan}

29 Aug 2012 23:49:31
Sly sports report 4m bid for Adam who cost 6.75m. Bbc say 5m bid and cost 9m. Eds which is it ? just wondered how much we lose if he goes. {Ed052's Note - In the middle. It doesn't really matter}

29 Aug 2012 23:48:47
Thank God for Stoke !!

If we are ever stuck with an average midfielder we always can rely on Stoke to help us out

Salif Daio anyone ??

Leam Red

Aquilani, Poulsen - where were Stoke with these flops?

love the the way ed52 is answering as many questions as possible, respect lad fairplay goodstuff, if u wud ed u said that dempsey will sign 2marrow is tht 4 defo do think or guesswork .thanx
fagan81 {Ed052's Note - Possible. He will sign. I know people like deadlines so late tommorow or early on friday }

29 Aug 2012 23:42:08
It is still highly likely we will sign Dempsey, the player wants to leave and make a step up the only other club who have been credited a real interest is Sunderland, although if I was Arsene Wenger I wouldn't say no to Dempsey right now.....
If we lose out to Sunderland then Sturridge is an option and I think He would jump at a move where he may get first team football and through the middle of the park.
I believe Sturridge is not the first choice over Dempsey because of the larger price tag he would command and the necessity to sell before signing specifically Carroll
Adam, spearing and possibly Carroll and Cole will depart the club Walcott, huntelaar and afellay rumours are no goes a move for afellay and neil taylor may be made in January depending on downing JH

29 Aug 2012 23:42:05
Hi all, just for all those that said that lfc could not sign or attract quality players, then....HA!
we got or could have
sahin(well known in europe,qualiteeeee),
allen(rapidly rising star),
dempsey(superb all round finisher and plenty of years in him),
assaidi(1 of europes rising assets),
borini(when settled, will set the prem on fire),
walcott(pacey,skillfull and can finish, young star),
hunterlaar(world class, would relish a move if bid was made)
see.....we are still liverpool football club! we dont have money to throw away every year but we built our success not bought it. ok so city are flying high but that wont last, chelski didnt! we wil always be up there, just needed a little fenshui(spelling) and things will freshen up. :-) and you never know, it could happen this year. trust in the rodgers revolution!
jim

Yeah , Chelsea only have mickey mouse cups to keep them happy now!

Well to be honest as a liverpool fan i disagree...these player have potential to be good...but what the cl tuk away is players like....van persie,eden hazard,cazorla,podolski, compare these 2 our signings ands thats how far we are to the top 4

29 Aug 2012 23:35:57
Got to say ed52 is a breath of fresh air, so positive in his replies. Dude could you just edit this site 24/7? Love reading your responses haha

Ian the red {Ed052's Note - Thanks mate}

Ed 52 fair aswell he may not always be right but doesnt profess to be. And aint sarcy know it all either that helps

29 Aug 2012 23:35:51
Hi Eds,

If the stories are correct Walcott is not happy with Arsenal's offer of 75k a week and wants closer to 100k.

Do you see LFC offering that type of money (on top of transfer fee) to a player who can show flashes of brilliance but can also be consistently inconsistent??

Jan {Ed052's Note - We can afford him yes}

Do you think he is worth it?

I would personally much rather give Walcott 100k or so a week than ~140k a week to Cole and Adam combined.

Player profile on him, why do't you check it out? The ed gives his opinion.

29 Aug 2012 23:26:55
In our new system our wing backs push on and create the width... smart move from BR, he either works out and does a good job for us or he gets frustrated and seeks a move in january!

R2TB

29 Aug 2012 23:25:29
Dempsey will be the only further player coming in with Adam and Spearing leaving. Would love more activity but think Huntelaar / Walcott signing are just pipe-dreams rather than likely transfers. As BR has said: reshaping the squad will take at least until next summer.

29 Aug 2012 23:25:19
And the movement begins. Adam to Stoke

Kuyt to Fenerbache
Maxi to Old Boys
Aquilani to Fiorentina
Aurelio to Gremio
Bellamy to Cardiff
It is about time the movement begins as most our squad had already left
#19

Most of them is 30+ and £90k week. so not a bad move BR.

29 Aug 2012 23:22:55
Just want to say that you Ed's are my personal heroes and I would be lost without you. You all have incredible patience and thank you so much for dealing with our fan insanity in this time. I'm sure we are all very grateful.

TravisLeeLFC {Ed052's Note - Thank you}

29 Aug 2012 23:14:52
HEY ED! I was just wondering are the rumours on Alan shearer true? About him becoming coaching staff, and also is there any chance in us getting modric? Thanks, Captain Kyle keato! {Ed052's Note - Really?}

Do you know what day it is?

29 Aug 2012 23:10:58
looks like adam is cert for stoke and spearing should be away 2morra thank god for that ed what 2 players would u say that we have strong chance of bringing in b4 friday 11.00pm thanks pal. irishred {Ed052's Note - DemPsey and either Walcott or Sinclair}

29 Aug 2012 23:20:05
It looks like the next 48 hours might be one of the busiest in a while for LFC if and only if some of the likes of Cole, Adam, Downing, Spearing & Carroll move. Its unlikely that they all will so as BR has said it will take more than one window to re-shape the squad as the club are not in a position to have big earners sitting on the bench.

On a separate note it was refreshing to see an LFC manager conduct himself in a professional, non-paranoid manager at his press conference. The more I see and hear of this guy the more trust I have that he can restore the club to a position where they can really challenge for top honours over the next 2-3 seasons.

Jan

While I agree with you overall point about BR, the slight towards Kenny is cheap. You have no idea what he has had to endure so maybe just look at the positives of BR rather than having a dig at one of the greatest of our own?

Andy K

Kenny tried and he made mistakes but all of the players he signed let him down br sees that and that is why he is moving them on.

29 Aug 2012 23:09:02
Wtf is going on Sly issue an Arsenal statement re.Walcott staying! NOW less then an hour ago-James Pearce of The Echo Tweets-Liverpool will test Arsenals resolve over Walcott if they get rid of Carroll before deadline.(And we have NO interest in Sturridge)He also says Adam will go to Stoke,And with Spearing due to leave to, it will free up cash for us to finally sign Dempsey. Either way i feel the mysterious short term agreement of Walcott is either to up his fee OR for him to join us in January!

29 Aug 2012 23:08:37
Is the Adam thing true Eds is he going to stoke cheers kyle8 {Ed052's Note - Mot sure at the minute. But Stoke are interested. It seems a fair fee. }

29 Aug 2012 23:07:15
Jordan Rhodes has agreed to Join Blackburn for £8 million. Good signing for them.
Sir Masher

£8million is a bit steep isn't it.
NotInTheKnow

Would've been a great addition to our forward ranks...and cheap as well...

if we only have three forwards and Carroll likely leaving, then out of all the rumoured strikers available, doesn't it mean we will have to spend ubsurd money on Huntelaar or Sturridge? or does the club have someone special lined up?

29 Aug 2012 23:05:33
This is shaping up well for the last two days....
Adam will move to stoke and it looks like spearing is heading for bolton or QPR. The total sum of this money will fund the majority of the dempsey deal.
Dempsey is definately leaving as jol is lining up berbatov as a replacement.
I personally believe that carroll will stay but if newcastle come in with a decent bid he will go and we will try get huntelaar.
Finally their will be one final loan signing, not quite sure yet but he will be coming.
Lfckid

29 Aug 2012 23:00:07
"Boroni is not a winger"......he also doesn't look like a forward, BR will turn him into a RB :-)

I agree to a point i think borini goint to become a sigurdsen (spelling) sort of player i could be wrong ..

cheers all mal .
love lfc more than her indoors dont tell her though i will get a kicking

just curious eds, if sahin cant play tomorrow because his registration isn't through yet then why has it taken so long? he signed almost a week ago but still isn't eligible to play and yet modric has only been at madrid couple of days and he's on the bench tonight {Ed052's Note - I think it was because international clearance was only on Tuesday}

Isn't it because he wasn't eligible for the first leg so can't be for the second leg and this is only in European comp because of The governing body of the competitions so would be their choices.

Players had to be registered 3 days before the first game against Hearts to be able to play in that round

29 Aug 2012 22:55:54
It will likely be Dempsey, Sinclair and Walcott coming in. At least 2 of them

No defenders unless one leaves as previously stated.

Spearing, Adam out

Carroll staying unless 20m offer made.

Cole staying as injured, will move in January

29 Aug 2012 22:49:15
Absolutely gutted that we passed up the chance to sign Mirallas - expect him to be the signing of the season in an average team

After all BR has said how could he or FSG sanction the signings of Dempsey and Huntelaar - goes against everything they hav said to date

Walcott and Sturridge if they do arrive will Unsettle the team and I don't expect them to be successes unlike Allen and Borini

Sahin is the classiest player we have had for a long time

If LfC are considering 5 deals on Friday (ins and outs) then we are either they are deluded or we the fans are
(hope we are not sticking with this last minute nonsense)

Leam

Well done leam, you've managed to be negative, positive, clued in and clueless all in one post...quite possibly a first for the site! Congrats mate!

Flagg

Sahin is the classiest player we have had for a long time

Allen?

29 Aug 2012 22:48:29
I think the injury to Lucas shows us that the notion of having a first 11 is silly. You need about a first 16 to have a chance of season long success. If you look at our team we essentialy employ a back 4, midfield triangle and 3 forwards. In order for any kind of prolonged success we need at least 7 starting caliber defenders, 5 starting caliber midfielders and 5 starting caliber forwards. Do we have this?

Defense: We have Johnson, Kelly, Agger, Skrtel, Coates and Enrique as what I'd call starting caliber. That's six. Carragher would be the 7th and I suppose Downing is trying to be made the 8th. In a perfect world I think we'd have a quality LB/CB who can play either position. We are probably a tad away from being really well set at the back in terms of depth but overall are not in poor shape.

Midfield: This is probably where we are best off, Gerrard, Allen, Sahin, Lucas, Shelvey are 5 good players. Especially the first 4 guys I listed. Throw in Henderson as providing additional depth and we are good in this spot.

Forward: This is the biggest issue. We have Suarez, Borini, Sterling and Assaidi. Im not listing Carroll cause I feel he will be gone and Im not listing Downing cause I think Rodgers saying he wants to convert him to fullback pretty much shows he doesnt believe Downing can play forward in his system. The issue here isn't simply that we are a little light, its that Sterling is 17 years old and Assaidi is making a major step up in league. I really think we need 2 more signings up here. We've all heard the rumors, Id say Dempsey is possible. Another on top of him would be great.

I think that in terms of remaking the roster that if we can get these 2 forwards that this summer would be a huge success. As I said, I firmly believe we need 7 defenders, 5 midfielders and 5 forwards. If we can get that and have solid players in all 17 of those roster spots it makes improving the team in future summers much easier. Rather than having to spend money on several absolute needs that have to be filled, we can be smart and concentrate our money on a couple players who can really improve on what we already have, rather than players who are needed to fill holes. Plus since we already have quality depth for every player we bring in, we'd in theory have a quality player to sell to help offset the cost.

Great post mate, you should start signing off with a name.
derryred

Excellent post. I agree completely that we are not far off in terms of strength in depth and that a quality bench is essential if you wish to compete season long.Great to see Kelly and Sterling in your list of ''starting caliber''players,i thought Kelly was quality against City as was Sterling.Happy days !! B

What is a 'roster spot'? {Ed002's Note - It is a male chicken with herpes.}

29 Aug 2012 22:47:15
Just a thought that I haven't seen mentioned on the site yet. The red sox just sold a bunch of players to the la dodgers for $100 mill plus. They are having a torrid season, cleaned house. More importantly they didn't get any players in to replace them. This is not usually done here in MLB like that. Very unusual.......perhaps gathering funds for BR? {Ed052's Note - No}

Long story...but not what you suggest. Red Sox need massive change to move forward.

Sold? $100mill? The Red Sox cleared three huge salaries with the tradings of Beckett, Gonzalez & Crawford which amounted to $275mill. They will rebuild in the off season. These deals have nothing to do with Liverpool FC.

James Mc

They were also dumping salaries, $200+ million in guaranteed money.

an american red

Two different businesses, and i hope your not going to blame liverpool either for the unsuccessful season ur having.

29 Aug 2012 22:46:59
Alot of people saying Adam Morgan will start against hearts tomorrow alongside Suarez and one other, however Brendan has said he's not going to take any chances with his line up. Does this mean Adam Morgan is unlikely to start? Think he would learn alot from playing alongside Gerrard Suarez etc!

29 Aug 2012 22:44:34
Betting is suspended on afellay! Some news maybe? Dubred {Ed052's Note - No}

29 Aug 2012 22:44:02

Twitter is really reliable :-/

Demsey needs to make peace with jol

29 Aug 2012 22:44:02
Evening eds fellow reds , is there a chance the transfer window could be an anticlimax .or is there new players coming in ? BR interview on lfc now ,when asked about theo he had huge smile on his face and closed his eyes .cheers psv {Ed052's Note - Players will come in. Dempsey is close for example }

Jordan Rhodes is having a medical with Blackburn tomorrow after agreeing a deal worth 8 million
Learpholl

29 Aug 2012 22:39:21
Sterling looks like he can become a great player. It is a great sign to see Liverpool produce these players from the academy. It would also be great to see Suso make a step up.

29 Aug 2012 22:38:43
Just been on a website, Stoke have made a bid of 4mil for Adam.

Daz

Any particular website?

29 Aug 2012 22:38:43

walcott staying a gooner.....he wanted to stay all along but just trying for a bigger pay packet...agents tut tut, ged rid of them all

They were my thoughts too, like a certain Manu player did, but has Walcott actually signed a new better contract yet?

Perhaps we don't want to!
KJS

Because br doesnt want him!!!!!!!!!!!

29 Aug 2012 22:32:00
The transfer shake up could see Liverpool rejoin the top 4. Time will tell whether Liverpool are stronger after the transfer window, but this also applies to Arsenal and Spurs, who are loosing some of their big players.

29 Aug 2012 22:29:26
Liverpool Set To Sign Dempsey! Finally. I know this is old news but this looks like it is definately going to happen from what I have been told.

Possibly confirmation on fee agreed tomorrow. Medical On Friday. If anyone else signs it will more than likely be subject to medical as no other deals are close to being complete.

JD {Ed052's Note - Dempsey should sign tommorow}

29 Aug 2012 22:29:11
Theo Walcott hasn't signed any short term agreement , it's a verbal agreement between him and Wenger !So you think he is staying ? He wants to come to Liverpool if we bid , cos up to know we haven't , just like Dempsey ! We won't get mugged like last year .

29 Aug 2012 22:27:57
juventus director marotta has just confirmed that berbatov will not be joining them as he is moving to fulham.

dempsey on his way here then ?

Anyone watching the Classico? This Messi kid looks good.

Do you reckon we could make a cheeky bid Eds?

;)

Rob {Ed052's Note - Why not}

Overrated - doesn't score enough goals, not a team player, awful first touch, crap left foot, terrible attitude.

That describes my football abilities perfectly!!

Nah! Modrich looks twice a player. Good to see Mourinho has already started winning trophys aginst Barcelona 3years =3trophys

29 aug 2012 22:26:35

J.Rhodes has signed for Blackburn. IMO Striker of the future.

FowlerGod.

29 Aug 2012 22:21:44
ed, do you think that gary hooper would be a good addition? no interest i dont think just curious, seems like a good player and a proven goalscorer {Ed052's Note - Possibly. He won't be coming though}

29 Aug 2012 22:21:36
Who do you think will start ed? Assaidi or Sterling?

Thanks,

Zero {Ed052's Note - vs Arsenal? It will be Sterling}

Sterling played amazing against city so why drop him ? talk about knocking his confidence if he did

Sorry, yes I meant against Arsenal! Who do you think is the better player (from what you've seen/heard)? Will Assaidi mainly be used as a squad player?

Thanks mate great job on all the sites!

Zero {Ed052's Note - Assaidi rotation. }

29 Aug 2012 22:20:15
Liverpool will not sign Huntelaar.

He's 29, Over priced and will be on a big salary, and will have no resale value.

Pretty much everything the owners are not looking for.

I can see Dempsey and Walcott coming coming in Carroll is going nowhere.

Dempsey is also 29, over priced by fulham and has no resale value. The owners have said they'd buy someone if they tick the right boxes.

BthekingB

Rodgers wants him.
tick that box.
derryred

Do the owners have a quiz for potential signings and only sign them if they tick the right boxes?

29 Aug 2012 22:17:03
Why do people insist Adam will be on his way out? He's clearly stated that he's happy at Liverpool and he strikes me as being as stubborn as he is slow! {Ed052's Note - He will be off}

29 Aug 2012 22:14:51
The usually reliable James Pearce of the Echo has stated that the imminent departure of Charlie Adam and Jay Spearing will allow Liverpool to finally complete the Signing of Clint Dempsey. Would be a great signing in my opinion.

29 Aug 2012 22:14:27
real madrid ripping barca to shreds at the back.....be braced for a very tempting offer for agger tomor
hick

We will only accept a bid of 25m euros minimum. Barca wont pay that.

29 Aug 2012 22:14:14
Andy Carroll will go to Newcastle on dead line day , FSG want him gone ,BR wants to give him a go, but has been given money to resolve the issue. We have money to spend but we won't get mugged like last year ! BR will have 2 surprise signings , Dempsey / Sturridge / Affellay will not sign ! world class striker from Spain to sign (Archie70RED)

BR does not want to give him a go, he wants rid.

29 Aug 2012 22:14:09
Hey Eds So Far Whats The Deal With Dempsey And Sinclair And Sturrigde ? {Ed052's Note - Demspey and Sinclair could come in. Surridge won't}

29 Aug 2012 22:10:17
Could anyone of the Eds answer this for me please. Are we going to attempt to sign Scott Sinclair in the transfer window?. I have read down the page and had a look at whats been said in other posts, just with the best of your info do you know of a confimed bid or interest from us? {Ed052's Note - Possibly. }

29 Aug 2012 22:09:57
eds please post- ok swansea have just got the replacement for sinclair. they have had a bid accepted from valencia for Pablo Hernandez. in the region of 5m he is a winger. so sinclair is off to either city or lfc. as the city deal for sinclair has fallen through i can only imagine lfc have pretty much signed the player. with city now going for theo walcott. although this could change with city re-nagotiating with swansea. with walcott off to lfc. either way 1 will join city and one will join lfc but who? i dont no

regards jamie

29 Aug 2012 22:09:46
Ed, could it be that Walcott has refused the contract offer from Arsenal due to potential lack of playing time for them and known interest from Liverpool? Cheers pal

ToonRed {Ed052's Note - Yes}

29 Aug 2012 22:09:32
hi eds, is it true that swansea have had 7m bid accepted for Pablo Hernandez? if so do u know of any interest from LFC and could this mean Sinclair on way out from swansea, thanks

Simon {Ed052's Note - Sinclair will leave yes. }

29 Aug 2012 22:07:00
Reports are saying that we must sell before we buy. Are these true eds?

Also what deals are being lined up to go?

Mighty reds {Ed052's Note - Sort of true}

Sad position Kennys partially put us in i'm afraid

It's not about lack of funding, our squad is too big and there are players that are simply not needed at all. We have to sell so we don't keep expanding to unmanagable levels. We have to focus on moving these players on otherwise we could spiral into debt and have to sell top players.

29 Aug 2012 22:02:59
I stand by my whole post just now except Carroll staying. I've just read BR's interview and he's definitely off. Seems like a forced move to West Ham may still happen, but it would be a loan first. Strange but technically, if it's completed in a year then it's £19 million and his wages full paid this year, saving money for another player other than Dempsey (whose wages will be covered by Adam leaving).

Papa G

29 Aug 2012 22:02:19
Walcott and Rogers have the same agent......

Rodgers used the LMA to get his contract sorted with LFC saving the club hundreds of thoussands of pounds in agents fees. that usually means he has no agent and someone has been on twitter....

eds, what's you opinion now on Walcott since the news of this new agreement with Arsenal? Is this just a smokescreen to throw us off? or will we be focusing our attention elsewhere? {Ed052's Note - He will still leave probably}

The agreement does not mean anything unless he has signed a contract so if arsenal dont sell now he will leave for nothing next season and wenger will not let that happen.i think he will be a liverpool player by friday what u think eds? {Ed052's Note - possibly}

Despite what anyone says, Adam and Jay going out and Dempsey coming in will complete a good summer.

Our defence should be rock solid once we iron out the creases. Enrique will hopefully regain some form but if not I like the idea of Downing and Robinsons progressing well. Skrtel and Agger showed last season that they're potentially world class as a pair (perhaps not individually) and Johnson will thrive under BR. Carra can still offer a lot as a leader and organiser and Coates is a year older and more settled.

Our midfield was looking great and still is despite the Lucas blow. Allen showed his world class potential (bold but true) and can really do it all. Gerrard seems fit and hopefully will have a solid season and Sahin is a real coup. Henderson and Shelvey are quality players for their age and their time will come. Dempsey (if he joins) can also play there and young Suso and Coady may get chances in cup games.

Our front line has improved. Switching to a three suits the players brought and the players we had. If Suarez stays focused and keeps the baggage off the pitch the goals and high performances we all want will come. Dempsey should add to the goal figures as will Borini, whose movement and work rate seem excellent. Asaidi is an unknown quantity and I hope he turns out the way we hope. A pacey, skillful player with potential to be an impact player either stating or from the bench.

Sterling is an incredibly exciting prosepect with pace, but also seemingly an end product and good decision making considering his age. He's obviously lightweight, but seems determined enough to not let that stand in his way. I hope he's not pushed too hard too young, but it's great to have another player that gets fans off their seats in anticipation when he gets the ball. He's got that rare commodity that Suarez has, that infectious ability that lifts fans and players a like.

Management also plays a big part. BR has boldly joined our club and seems like he has the ambition and drive required. He also has the balls to play younger players based on form and sell players that rightly don't belong here. That's a strange thing to say, but players like Adam just won't fit and I'm glad BR knows this. His philosophy is set and that's fine in my books. Yes a plan B can be important and we'll probably have one in Carroll (who I can't see leading), but his plan A will work over time.

My one major gripe with Kenny was his lack of a clear plan A. He seemed to have two plan B's, either the long game using Carroll, Adam and Downing. Or the short using Suarez, Maxi and Kuyt. Neither ever fitted or gelled and the lack of cohesion was there to see. With one clear plan BR will get that much needed continuity from his whole squad. Everyone has a role and collectively as a team we'll play to win. A lot can be said for teams like Everton (yes I said it), Fulham (last year) and Swansea bot under BR and Laudrup (it would seem). They don't really have any world class players, but play as a collective and are highly successful in doing so. Teamwork often outdoes individual skill and I can honestly see us as a collective team, with our higher calibre players achieving great things in years to come.

What do you think ED's, is Sterling worth being regular starter now?

Or not yet? {Ed052's Note - Yes}

Completely agree ed. He will have his off days just like any player does. He is only going to get better by more playing time and confidence.

I find it highly unlikely that Liverpool will sign 3 or 4 players before the window shuts. Rodgers is supposedly in charge of all transfers and we have a game to prepare for and play tomorrow.
Personally hoping for walcott as he'd be great as our team lacks a lot of pace!
Dempsey would be good to cover for midfield and up front. I'd personally like spearing to stay or just a loan as his heart is there for liverpool and he will run all day long for HIS, OUR club. He might not be the best player in the world but it's better than spending 20 million to fill a void next summer. YNWA

Hi eds, are we looking to add to the squad regardless of outgoings or is it totally dependent on who we move on? Other than dempsey and walcott who do you feel other potential targets are if these were not to come off? Rob {Ed052's Note - Regardless. Yes. Not sure. Sinclair?

hi edds any chance of adriano from barcelona i think he is a decent player and he doesnt get the playing time at barca? {Ed052's Note - No. And he does play. Just been sent off actually}

I know i saw that but in the past i havent seen him play very often. he has only come into the squad tonight due to a slight risk of injury to dani alves

29 Aug 2012 21:30:10
Dempsey and Huntelaar in, Walcott will stay at arsenal..

Dempsey £7m
Huntelaar £16m
£23m

Adam - £5m
Spearing - £3m
Cole - £2m
Carroll - £15m
£25m

Quick question: do the finances of the Boston Red Sox in any way affect Liverpool ..... meaning, the Red Sox just traded away 3 big players dumping around $256 million in salary over the next few years. Will this in any way help LFC? {Ed052's Note - No}

That money is in the Red Sox, not FSG. We are two seperate entities with a common owner. They would not risk another business just for ours (A less profitable business I might add). {Ed052's Note - R

Hey eds! Just come on to find sahin is ineligible to play tomorrow night! I was looking forward to his debut! Gutted! Do you think he will be thrown straight in against arsenal or benched & gradually brought in game by game? I feel for lucas & hope he recovers quicker than 3 months quoted! Also it defo seems the walcott rumour is now dead in the water until january at least anyway! I hope it dont mean we will now push for sinclair! Personally i dont rate him that highly & hope we steer well clear! Lets get dempsey & 1 surprise deadline day & i will be 1 happy chappie! What you think eds? Like to hear fans views too! Keep up the good work eds & good luck for friday, youre gonna need it! Lol! Thanks

Let's just see what happens.

Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. It will only be an anti-climax if you over set your expectations. Maybe we will not sign anyone and maybe we will. Lets see what happens.

Apparently Douglas Costa's agent is saying that AVB wants him at Tottenham.

Not Liverpool information or rumour, but Liverpool's closet rivals i feel to the Champions League spot.

Its if he can get them all to play and gel in our league plus seems to be letting all last seasons performers go parker and vdv will be a big loss to there team not to mention modric

It seems to me that avb has gotten desperate and is just bidding for players left right and centre hoping that maybe one in five will be accepted

A recent rumour that seems to have come out of nowhere is that Dutch forward Klaas-Jan Huntelaar could be on his way to Anfield. There's been talk on twitter and other rumour filled website in this case of Huntelaar joining Liverpool after he failed to renew his contract at Schalke. The 29 year old who scored an amazing 47 goals in just 54 appearences. If the Dutchman was to leave Schalke Liverpool would need to stump up a bid of around £17 million in order to grab the star.

Liverpool are apparently willing to pay for the striker and the two clubs have agreed a deal (if rumours are to be believed).

The only problem facing the reds is that in order to raise funds for the huntelaar deal they must shift Andy Carroll first. Liverpool are now desperate to get rid of the big man, letting him go for anything over £12 million. AC Milan, Newcastle and West Ham have been the only teams to admit interest in signing the forward. Liverpool agreed a fee with West Ham but Carroll himself turned them down but now he sees that he will be on the bench all season he might consider leaving Merseyside in order to gain a regular first team spot.

I think Anndre Schurrle and will coast 15/18M and won't demand high wages ed you should do profile on him mate {Ed052's Note - he's been done}

There are

Lisandro lopez - goal scorer 29yrs, about £13-14m

klass jan Hunterlaar - goal scorer 29yrs £16m buyout clause

Matias Suarez 24 or 25yrs (work permit would prevent a move). £12m

Alvaro Negredo, 27yrs £16m - £18m

29 Aug 2012 19:59:42
I said liverpool would sign allen, borini and sahin way before anyone else. I am saying again that andy carrol will be flogged to newcastle for a mere £14m. Dempsey wont be bought. Huntelaar is brendans first choice. He will be bought for £18m, as will sturridge for £9m. Agger is a gonner, no replacement as coates is ready to step up.

18 million for a 29 year old?. Doubt it

Hello I have read the other posts but I was just wanted to ask one of the Eds if they know what's happening with Clint Dempsey? Someone on Twitter (I know...) is saying that our move for him has broken down & now "the race is on". This was tweeted by an Arsenal fan & I was just wondering if any of the Eds have heard anything as I think he'd be a good signing for LFC. Thank you! I'm a scouser living in london,
Walcott has been promised more striking opportunities with arsenal so is staying for now, but not signing any long term deals, expect us to make a bid in january if they don't keep to their promise.
personally think we need a genuine goalscorer, keep the faith, BR is a clever manager.

shame about Lucas injury news, so expect us to keep Adam to balance out the midfield options.

Eds; very addicting site you have here and keep up with great work! I live in Chicago, and I'm a massive Reds fan. I wanted to get your take on what John Henry & Co. did last week by getting rid of over $200 million in salaries of 4 Red Sox players. Given we have a decemt season this year do you think the owners will start buying the players that can transform LFC to what they once were?
Thanks, ChiRed {Ed052's Note - They are, but steadily}

I wonder who gets paid more, football players or baseball players? Anyone know?

Baseball players by the looks of it get more $$$

Baseball players by the looks of it get more $$$

Baseball, by a massive margin. They play alot more games per week.

Are you talking on average or highest paid? Highest MLB salaries are in the $25-30M per year category (Rodriquez at $30M is tops I think). Not sure who the highest paid PL player is, but let's say 250k GBP per week = 13M GBP per year or ~$20M. So, I'd guess at the extreme a MLB player can make more than a footballer in England.

On a side note, the average MLS player only makes like $50k a year (~30k GBP). One of the reasons we're very good at football, baseball, and basketball and much less so at soccer- there's very little money in it over here in the US compared to the other 3.

I take it back a bit- average MLS is now ~$140k with median at ~$80k. It's went up a lot since I checked last, but still I imagine well below the average of the other 3 major professional sports in the US.

Just because you are in business doesn't mean your good at it. :)

I do think it is just smokescreen though. But lets see still between us and City so depends on wether money talks or first team football.

Hello Ed's
Media have come out saying Arsenal and Walcott agree a short term truce do you still beleive he will leave before Friday's Deadline Day?

Thanks
GAM {Ed052's Note - Yes, I do actually, funny feeling and all that}

Its to make someone move for him quickly. Why risk losing him for nothing by holding onto to him longer, arsenal don't do that.
Personally I think he will leave them thursday or friday and I think Liverpool would be as likely as anywhere that he may go to.

So he has agreed to stay but has not signed a contract.
What are Arsenal doing Ed's???
I don't care to be honest but I reckon a Spurs fan has infiltrated the board and is screwing the whole club over.... ahhh well

Ibrahim Affelay has recently opened a 2nd Dutch twitter account, and in his own words:

"with all of the big changes about to occur, here is an account (in Dutch) to keep everyone abreast of them."

This is what he said in Dutch:

"Zo, ik heb ook maar eens twitter genomen. Met alle veranderingen die voor de deur staan is dit ideaal om elkaar op de hoogte te houden. Ibi. "

Not sure if this is a jouno having a laugh, but the Dutch is impeccable...

Have the feeling the boy is on the move before the transfer window closes. Hopefully us and not Shalke or Arsenal.

Ibrahim Affelay to Arsenal and Theo Walcott to LFC.

Ed052... brilliant work, you have been replying to pretty much everything, so a lot of respect for that.

Can you just answer one question from me though.

Forget whether or not it is likely to happen or not, but why would you not want Huntelaar at Liverpool?

The guy has a good record of goal scoring through his carear, surely he would be a good buy for us?

Anyone else's opinion is welcome...

Smirky. {Ed052's Note - Thanks mate. Wages, failed in Spain, age, and doesnt really suit our style of play. Also he has a huge ego}

I can't believe Arsenal are letting Walcott stay on after the window closes without signing a new contract. The're playing a dangerous game, he can sign for us for nothing in January on a pre-contract agreement.

Sooty {Ed052's Note - No he carn't}

Thought this was his last year ed, so I thought you could sign a pre-contract??

Sooty {Ed052's Note - It is, but it is 6 months for a foreign club, and only 1 month for a english club to agree pre contract terms}

As far as i know, no wingers will be coming in unless we get Affelay on loan. BR will put up with the wingers we can play. Dempsey could possibly happen, but its not definite. Any other strikers will only be signed if AC Goes

So no wingers unless we sign a winger. Got it. Nice one.

Walcott won't happen. Affelay is the only winger we are looking at(loan). Otherwise BR will put up with Assaidi, Borini, Suarez, Carroll, Sterling in the front 3. And perhaps Downing occasionally. A new striker will only come in if Carroll goes by the looks of things.

Why would BR have to put up with these players they are all good ray3037

29 Aug 2012 19:09:24
so walcott agrees to stay at arsenal for the short term, not signed a contract but agrees not to move in this window, wonder if rodgers will go for affelay now (if he wasn't already)

29 Aug 2012 19:09:21
didn't the owners give us an extra 10 mill to sign adam johnson but has fell few so why do we need to sell carroll? sell adam and spearing and we will have 17 million to spend :)

Cos Carrolls S ite and on big money, plus hearts in N>E

29 Aug 2012 19:08:20
sorry eds u must had this one hundred times already but they are saying he has not signed any extention but they have agreed not sell this window is this just from the bbc and sly or is it true cheers ed52 apreciate all ur hard work and loved ur profile on theo

mike {Ed052's Note - Thanks mate. Well, it seems an odd one from my perspective; I will give a for explanation, so hopefully people stop asking

a) It may be a ploy to get a bid,
b) It may be a ploy to get more money

If its not a ploy of any sort,

a) They may have agreed to continue talks at a later date,
b) Arsenal hope he will sign a new deal

But if he does not sign a new contract,

a) He will go cheaply in January
b)Nothing in the summer.

I hope that clears it up. I think we will know more about him tommorrow mate, so it should all become clearer}

Ed as Walcott is under 24 and has been offered a contract surely the team would have to do some sort of compensation package?

Ben {Ed052's Note - There would be some compensation, but no where near as much as the players value}

29 Aug 2012 19:06:17
Rodgers has missed the boat here. Fair enough he has got us j allen who is immense, borini is a younger kuyt hope he develops goalscoring record. Sahin quality. But why the hell has he not bought a goalscorer. Forget passing ability and how well to fit into team. Get someome up there who will score the tap ins its incredible that hes not bought someone like that ahead of anyone else it really is, nothings going to dramaticly change. {Ed052's Note - There is ages left yet}

There's still time for all sorts of suprises!

Above poster not much! cutting v fine again

29 Aug 2012 19:04:34
We wont get anybody same story every year
jns

Where have you been the last few years?

MR EM

What? We have bought a truck load of players in the last 2 years!

Reminds me of the Life of Brian - 'what have the Romans ever done for us?'!!

Nick

I cant remember a year passing when we didnt get anyone?? Expand or you make yourself look daft!!

Mike S

Not happy with sahin n allen even no?
5 gold stars

29 Aug 2012 19:00:47
Question for the eds. does BR actually want Downing to play left back? if so, and if he does not want to play there, are we looking at another left back? mikey b {Ed052's Note - We have been looking for a LB, but it feel through. Therefore, Downing will slot in there I imagine}

Ed, so Downing is taking Enrique's place?

This is terrible news, I have Enrique in my fantasy football team, thinking he would play a blinder under Rodger's Tiki Taka, being Spanish n'all..........

Adam {Ed052's Note - No}

29 Aug 2012 19:00:28
Hi eds are Liverpool interested in Sinclair thanks kyle8 {Ed052's Note - yes}

29 Aug 2012 19:00:03
a website sources understand Arsenal and Theo Walcott have reached a short-term agreement which means he won't leave the club this week.

Walcott met with Arsenal on Wednesday in a meeting which included manager Arsene Wenger to discuss his future.

Reports had claimed that The Gunners were ready to sell the England winger this week, after failing to agree a new contract with him.

Walcott's current deal has less than 12-months to run, and he was being strongly linked with deadline moves to Manchester City and Liverpool.

However, a website sources understand that the player and club have agreed that he will remain with the club beyond this Friday's transfer deadline.

I'm just asking this because I'm curious and I've seen a lot of this happen, I'd like a lot of replies, mainly to those who still adore Torres.

I've seen many Torres videos of old and new and on a lot of them there are Liverpool fans like us who constantly say on videos "Come home 'Nando'" or "YNWA NANDO".

This is not a statement as to whether you are a Liverpool fan or not, I've just always wondered, why would any of us call for Torres to come back? I mean, ever since he turned his back on us I've nothing but hatred written all over mind. Sure, a very teensy bit of respect for him, but would I want a man who left us in a time of need? I tell you even if in some fantasy world where Torres resigned it would probably take a hell of a lot for me to accept him back.

Just saying, this isn't a post to talk about his form or how he would help Liverpool etc. I'm just wondering as to why some fans would actually want him back. He turned his back on us for a rival club. In my eyes, he will always walk alone. Maybe my hatred is there because I loved Fernando Torres so much? I don't know, I'm just asking for a bit of banter. Hope to get some replies.

Thanks
CodeRed

I would take him back in a heartbeat but , unfortunately , that Torres no longer exists ..........

Wait until the search engine come back. Done to death every second week.

Quigz23

Codered mate I think reason is we haven't replaced him if we had higuain or falcao or Benzema do you think anyone would remember nando. Problem is he was scoring for fun for us and was fan favourite if you sell player like him then you need to replace him with same quality remember Suarez was not his replacement but was sign to patner him. Oh he didn't turned his back mate we couldn't mach his ambition do you honestly think if we don't finish top4 for few season then players like Surez or reina etc etc will stay the answer is no mate.

29 Aug 2012 18:52:12
So not so long ago we was linked to gaston ramirez performed well in the olympics scored a fantastic freekick from 25yards and a real classy player that got stuck in when needed NEXT!! i hear southampton hav agreed a fee of 11mill for him what the hell? is this true ed(s)?

He scored a free kick so we must buy him?? Is that your point? If he is so good where are the bids from the other big clubs?

Mike S

Outside of the free kick, he did not play well at the Olympics at all.

I think he was rubbish in the olympics and I wish people would stop pining for him. Over rated and over hyped.

29 Aug 2012 18:51:51
Not Liverpool related but QPRs wage bill is going to be phenomenal this season . It looks like they are going to sign granero and cesar and add that to all the others they have signed . It doesnt look good if they have a bad season

Another Pompey, Leeds & maybe LFC before Waldorf & Stadler were released of their duties

QPR's owners are loaded.

Mate QpR have wealthy owners from india they are even planning to fund for new stadium or expand current stadium

Laksmi Matel - third or fourth richest man in the world i believe

Tony Fernandez, owner of budget airline Air Asia and Formula 1 boss. Air Asia in trouble financially atm along with a few other business concerns. Mitall, Eccleston and Briatore no longer involved. He's quite rich but not Mansoor / Abramovich or even Lerner level.

29 Aug 2012 18:50:28
Does all this news breaking Walcott will be staying at arsenal but without signing a contract extension surely that means any deal could still be done? Or is it out of the question now? Thanks {Ed052's Note - It is by no means out of the question Walcott could still go}

Thanks do you think we will still pursue him? {Ed052's Note - Yes, they will know what is happening better than anyone}

If this has come from his agent , as reported , it makes it virtually certain that he is leaving in this window !

This is exactly what I would say if I was Walcott's agent .

Does anybody know where this has actually come from? I do hope we make an attempt to sign him.

Its been put out there to make people act.

29 Aug 2012 18:50:11
I think he means butland but this is 50% ridiculous

29 Aug 2012 18:47:47
Ed mate I don't know why fans want wallcot he is useless. Yes has got pace but no brain and wenger doesn't sell cheap if we have got money then we should buy Anndre Schurrle fans who dont know him he is the next big thing and forget Dempesy coz Andre Schurrle will cost 15/20 million and wont demand high wages. What do you think mate coz we missed trick when Rondon went so cheap mate {Ed052's Note - My views on Walcott are clearly put forward in my profile on him; http://www.player-profiles.co.uk/theo-walcott.php}

Who is Anndre Shurrle is he good and for what team does he play

29 Aug 2012 18:42:03
Eds. Now the Walcott situation is kinda sorted and he's stayin put for now will we be bringing anyone else in br seems to think we ve dne most of our business what's your opionions {Ed052's Note - Why does everybody think he is staying. One beeb reporter said it, and how its gospel}

29 Aug 2012 18:41:46
eds- i just watched the interview with rodgers today and could notice the media asking questions about our targets. one did ask rodgers if he was an admirer off walcott for him to go quite and then he smiled. i just got that feeling he is lfc bound. whats your thoughts {Ed052's Note - I'm not too sure. We will have to wait and see. I have heard it was more a grin - it could mean anything}

Could be his medication kicking in. ray3037

29 Aug 2012 18:40:32
Newcastle will need a Striker in Jan with them losing two to African Nations, their playing mind games. Maybe think can get Carroll on cheap in Jan. LFC should say=we only sell him to you if you stop fooking about and stump up our asking price now.Or come January or any other time-He wont ever go to you'se

The Dembas team play Tiotes team (Senegal v Ivory Coast) in qualifiers for the Acon ,as Ivory Coast are stronger it very unlikely that the Dembas will go through so would not be lost to the Acon.If that's how it pans out Toon will not lose their strikeforce.

29 Aug 2012 18:35:24
Whys Walcott staying Ed, Whats the word? Only ask because Slysports reports"Its just a short term contract",hes signed. Dont get it. Surely you committ long term future or not at all {Ed052's Note - I am not too sure yet that he is}

29 Aug 2012 18:33:23
Another miss=Walcott. Ok moving on Ed, Do LFC have anyone else in mind? {Ed052's Note - plenty of people, dont you worry}

I say a bullet missed, lucky.

Give us a clue then ed? Is he good,nationality,position? {Ed052's Note - Not too sure mate. Nobody does. I mean it'll be a surprise like Assaidi}

29 Aug 2012 18:31:12
No walcott does this mean Sinclair will arrive

29 Aug 2012 18:28:47
Lucas out-I think we need a holding midfielder to break up oppositions play. After all we aint exactly been solid in first two games.Maybe a centre half aswell as Dempsey and Walcott

29 Aug 2012 18:26:00
Come on LFC Walcott,Dempsey,and holding midfielder-minimum required coming in.Prefer another forward also

29 Aug 2012 18:23:06
Look how quickly Spurs sorted Dembele, and then compare with our Dempsey shambles.

Look how quick we sorted assaidi!

Do we really want Dempsey?
Are we prepared to pay the price that would make Fulham sell Dempsey?

Did Spurs really want Dembele? - Yes
Did Spurs want to pay the price that Fulham would accept for Dembele ? - Yes

You see we know the answer to the second two questions but what we don't know, is the answer to the first two.. even if the answer to the first question is yes then we have to have the answer to the second as a yes too before he can sign.

Thomas

I honestly think we never wanted dempsey in the first place jus papertalk that got out of hand.

He had a release clause they matched it.
Like we did with Allen
Stop your moaning and grow up
and stop slagging the Club off you
CLOWN!!

Lyndon

You have no idea how long they may have in communication over dembele, you only know how long we take because you find stories and listen to as much info as poss on our transfers,

how much time do you really spend researching other teams dealings? they may have been looking at him for weeks and weeks

How do you know Spurs haven't been negotiating with Fulham for weeks?

Aint slagging club Lyndon stating a fact and i go everywhere with LFC bet your another mouthy armchair

29 Aug 2012 18:22:55
hi eds, alot of things about walcott on here today, have we actually been in contact with arsenal about him?? cheers {Ed052's Note - I am not too sure. I should think so though yes}

29 Aug 2012 18:21:10
A tally of 47 Premier League goals last season - one more than Bolton but one fewer than Blackburn - was miserable. But Rodgers' only forward acquisition so far has been Fabio Borini, a player with a grand total of nine goals in top-flight league football. Like is everyone in liverpool stupid, we need goals we can buy all the wingers and midfielders in the world what we lack is goals, a striker..... WHY
jackh

Goals will come with good service and we certainly have much better service than we did last season with the acquisitions of Allen and Sahin. Not only that but that football Rodgers is playing is all about build up play and possession. Goals will come.

ChrisMiz

To go with the 33 times we hit the post and the bar he may feel the players he has are more than capable of hitting the net giving the right amount of luck needed which quite frankly has never more deserted us than it did last season,

last year both skrtels header and luis' freekick against city would have 9 times out of 10 smashed the bar and the post, maybe our players luck will change and the likes of suarez, downing, hendo, gerrard adam who all hit the woodwork will hit the net, downing had 7 attempts of the woodwork last season,

most goals are pure luck !

Fabio Borini - the striker who last season had a goal to minute ratio only surpassed by Cavani and Ibrahimovic you mean? You can always look at stats from different angles when talking about such a young player. Only time will tell how the lad turns out, but what he doesn't need is lack of support from the fans. He's a work horse and finds great positions, and I believe once he hits the back of the net he'll be a great signing. Give him a chance, he deserves that at least.

Would anyone else agree with Lucas's injury we now also require a'holding midfielder'? We aint got anyone else up to the required standard to do that job. Spearing wasnt quite up to it. It maybe a blessing in disguise that at least we know before end of window,hes out long term. Theres a chance to act upon it.I know its very harsh but when a player sadly suffers type of injury Lucas suffered initially, you got to be considering replacements for good of club because their seldom the same. Usually means as now niggle after niggle and they seldom reach consistantly those high standards again. And after all its about LFC.So in summary Ed will it change our Transfer window emphasis or should it?(After all weve shipped 5 goals in two games) {Ed052's Note - Lucas' injury changes nothing}

Allen, sahin, henderson?!!

Allen can play holding midfield

Allen and Sahin quality but not enough physical presence-holding midfielder. Hendo-oh hes been superb hasnt he?

29 Aug 2012 18:19:51
hi Eds, love this time of the year, look at the site whenever i can, like a few have said it's quite addictive, love the banter,
i was wondering has an actual liverpool player ever posted on here, they must have a peep now and again to see what we actually think of them !

wardie {Ed052's Note - No, I dont believe so}

Iv always wondered that haha

29 Aug 2012 18:19:37
hi Eds n Reds

Theo wont be sold this transfer window

atlfc70 {Ed052's Note -

Why?
He'll be worth even less in 4 months time.
unless he signs a new contract

You really didn't think that over did you

29 Aug 2012 18:19:21
Walcott ain't happening so forget it

Ok mystery poster I am forgetting it now.But wait what if it happens, then who shall I laugh at.Oh I see you have covered this by not using a name how very clever of you, if only your post had half the ingenuity put into it maybe then I wouldnt be leaving this message.

Kopping a feel

29 Aug 2012 18:16:04
Walcott staying at arsenal

Niall

29 Aug 2012 18:15:14
Arsenal have Short term agreement with walcott so he wont be sold this window

BenO'

I don't necessarily know whether Walcott would come here or not, but a 'short term agreement' makes absolutely 0 sense to me. Short term agreement about what?

What short term agreement? he's still got a year left on his contract, so shorter than that would be pointless, Arsenal seem to be panicking a little.

David

29 Aug 2012 18:09:20
Rumours are that Adam Morgan may join Blackpool on a season - long loan deal, be a great chance for him to get some vital experience.

Badge.

Didn`t do jonjo any harm, if it`s true it would be a good move, holloway seems to do well with our kids, look at young ince, great player in the making

29 Aug 2012 18:05:09
Walcott will not be signing for LFC

Big Red Mac

29 Aug 2012 18:02:40

Is it true Bayern just bought javi martinez for 32 million. Always wanted him to play for liverpool although i knew it would never happen.

29 Aug 2012 18:01:43
I cant beloeve how some people are saying about coates getting sold and that we should sell him. Dod u see him against tevez balotelli dzeko are u mad ge should start every game he is a rock our new sami hypia so alike its scary! {Ed052's Note - Have people read my profile? : http://player-profiles.co.uk/sebastian-coates.php}

Great Profile BTW Ed 0052

Seems you like 'Nit- Picking' {Ed052's Note - Thanks}

29 Aug 2012 17:56:17
Eds, can one of you enlighten me as to why we are so keen to offload Joe Cole? He could be a real asset as one of the front three that BR plays. Even if only an impact substitution... Please post and give me opinions. {Ed052's Note - Because of his wages, and he is not the player he once was. And wont even get a game}

Because apparently standing on grass for more than 5 minutes causes an injury?

Nice enough guy, terrible acquisition.

29 Aug 2012 17:55:48
Walcott to stay at arsenal . . . ! Oh well WHO will be the next name to get mentioned in every single post!? Lets just be happy with what we have and anyone else that adds to the quality of the starting eleven is a bonus. Hopefully someone up front lets get rid of ac as much as we all really want him to come good if he stays he still wont get any decent game time and his value will fall further so lets cash in now . SteveL

29 Aug 2012 17:53:49
right everyone is saying walcott and dempsey are signing, that means we have:
midfield:
gerrard
allen
sahin
lucas
shelvey
adam
cole
spearing
suso
attack:
suarez
borini
carroll
assaidi
dempsey
walcott
downing
sterling.
my point is that i understand its about having depth in the squad but are dempsey and walcott guna sign without 100% first team football and if they do have that are others like sterling guna not be happy about there lack of opertunities. i hope not.
redskins

I disagree with your post but HTTR... YNWA

Please forgive me ignorance but what is HTTR? Google suggests Hail to the Redskins or High Temporature Thermal Reactor, neither of which appear to make sense to me.

Expect Walcott & Dempsey to be signed by friday for fees believed to be 15m for Walcott and 6.5m for Dempsey (including Adam going to fulham for a season long loan) + We are looking to raid Swansea for the second time for Sinclair if we fail to prise away Walcott as well as looking to make an 11th hour bid for Sturridge

Outs :
Spearing to Wolves/Bolton/QPR
Adam to Fulham (Loan_
Gulasci to Norwich (Loan)

29 Aug 2012 17:19:18

29 Aug 2012 17:41:07
i think brendan has another leftfield signing up his sleeve yet

tom1975

We have a few that have already left the field, adam,downing,spearing for example !!

Probably some unknown 21 year old african striker from the dutch league... Brendan is the man I respect his choices. J staff

29 Aug 2012 17:40:12
Manchester City are preparing a bid for Raheem Sterling, they are trying to ply him away from Anfield before he signs a Professional contract at 18. They see him as a better investment than Sinclair who they have failed to get from Swansea!

Cheers

A bid of £40 million plus Tevez and Aguero and we might be interested. {Ed052's Note -

Hope not and if so LFC must ACT to sort it

There working on the deal right now

29 Aug 2012 17:38:16
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has dismissed Newcastle's proposal and the England international looks destined to remain on Merseyside, for the time being at least.

Walcott/Afellay + Dempsey will give our squad a nice balance & it's good to have Andy as a Plan B.

Expensive plan b

I hope your right, don`t want the big man to go, still got a lot to offer, i`d rather see the best of him at anfield than somewhere else

We all know he won't get minutes at Anfield.

Let the boy go for the sake of his own career.

Tristan

29 Aug 2012 17:37:32
Clint Dempsey going to LFC for £6M...club also to fight it out with Arsenal for Ibrahim Afellay (loan)....LFC have contacted Klass jan Huntelaars agent about joining the club (£12.5m).....Newcastle playing hardball with the Andy Carroll situation....deal may be struck for him to leave for £15m...Jay Spearing joining Bolton £2/3m, Joe Cole joining West Ham £2/3m, Doni and Pacheco to be released,Dorien de Vries to sign as back-up keeper...Charlie Adam on his way to Aston Villa, Fulham or Stoke for £5M...Stewart Downing to be kept as cover for LB...Interest being shown in Bruno Soriano (Villareal) at the right price....

29 Aug 2012 17:36:12
anyone know whats happening with pacheco, eccleston, doni and wilson

all unneeded and could put a few shillings in the tin to chip in for a decent player in this window

maybe a reds bargain bucket ...all for 5m!

Shushyboy {Ed052's Note - They are all up for sale}

29 Aug 2012 17:30:56
Kaka to be a late liverpool target

29 Aug 2012 17:29:48
With only 53 hrs open left for the transfer window, these are the names that are linked with liverpool, Affelay, Ramirez, Walcott, Sinclair, Huntelaar, Dempsey, Sturridge,

These are the players linked wth moves away from Anfield, Spearing almost deffintley gone, Adam, Downing, Carroll, Cole,

Eds which do you feel will deffintley happen, i cant see any other possibilities then again we new nothing about Assaidi Signing, but Realistically which ones are we looking Gettin In And Leaving Thanks {Ed052's Note - None will definately happen. We may sign no one, we may sign 22 players. We have told you all we know - he may go and who may come in}

29 Aug 2012 17:29:05
Hi eds, how likely is it that Walcott will stay at Arsenal this window? {Ed052's Note - I think he will go, still}

Wrong Ed its on Sly hes staying put {Ed052's Note - So if it says it on Sly it makes it true does it. Well thats total rubbish mate}

29 Aug 2012 17:25:16
Most people thought it was us who got the best deal by far with the sale of Torres to Chelsea for 50 mil. Looking back I think they must've seen something with Joe Cole not to renew his contract and let him leave on a free transfer. With the silly money we've paid him so far and I'm sure he ain't done with us on the financial front (not his fault) yet. But looking back with Torres hitting a bit of form and Joe Cole having shot his bolt re being a top level player anymore, it seems like Chelsea didn't do to bad. Just to be clear I was all excited when we signed Cole backs i'm sure many Liverpool fans were. Ah well you live and learn.
Jonson

Cole had nothing to do with the Torres transfer.

I know what you mean. When we signed Cole, I thought 'this is the type of player we should be going for!'. I suppose there is a very good reason why I would make a cr*p manager!

Nick

To clever clogs with the first reply. I'm on about how much we thought we done Chelsea with getting 50 mil for Torres. When I'm fact in the grand scheme of things, they got just as good if not a deal off loading Joe Cole to us. I know they had nothing to do with each other, I put we got Cole on a free transfer smart asse, I'm linking them because their both still playing for Chelsea and Liverpool.
Jonson

29 Aug 2012 17:24:49
Heard that Liverpool have taken an interest in Nicolai Boileden from Ajax for the LB spot. I know Arsenal were interested in him previously... Ed's or anyone else heard this?

American Red {Ed052's Note - No, sounds feasable though}

It's Boilesen... and I rate him highly. Danish international already and only 19/20. I would love to see him join but don't think there is any interest from us....

Smirky. {Ed052's Note - From SOuthampton I have heard}

29 Aug 2012 17:22:12
eds is it less likely now that we will go for walcott as he may stay at arsenal. also will this mean that we will turn our attention to sinclair? {Ed052's Note - We were always interested in both - both are still possible.}

So let me get this straight, Walcott refuses a new contract because he wants arsenal to increase his wages to around £75,000........so my question is, do we need a player who is only 23 years old, yes only 23 years old, demanding high wages??? Just please think about it Liverpool fans! He ain't worth £75,000 a week! That's just silly money to pay an average player who is holding his own club to ransom, the type of attitude we don't want at our club, he's like the rest of them, only in it for the money, so come on everyone and look at it that way.......

Walcott to Liverpool seems really unlikely to me. It is a case of wages, and he wants 100k a week. I cannot see LFC offering him that, plus the transfer fee of 15+ million. Wenger knows how to play hardball and will not sell cheap. This one will be a no go.

With Lucas out again, I wondered if BR would consider signing another midfield player, but I think either Allen or Hendo could play the DM role.

My prediction:

Affelay on loan
Dempsey on transfer
Carroll, Adam, Spearing, Cole? I really don't know. Would the teams they are reported going to pay their wages? Probably not in the case of Carroll, Adam and Cole, so the players may simply opt to stay on the pay roll. Sounds ridiculous, but happens all the time.

29 Aug 2012 17:07:50
I wish people would get off the Walcott train. He is plying for more money, nothing more. LFC wouldn't pay him 100 000 per week anyway, so he'd more likely go to City.

I would pay Walcott 80 grand a week.
I think he is perfect for a role as any of the 3 forwards in the 4-3-3 we play.
He would not be our highest paid player on 80 would he?
I think he is on 65 grand a week or thereabouts.... That is low when you consider that Giroud and podolski are both on more than him I woud guess. So would Vermalen and Cazorla.

i heard rumor that city has bid for sterling but what i want to know is when does raheem`s contract expire

Crumbs!

Eds seeem confident he will sign a contract tho {Ed052's Note - Sterling wont be going anywhere soon, dont you worry}

I really hope Sinclair and Dempsey are not lfc bound.

I believe downing will end up as a full back and Walcott will join us. Sterling looks great but a little light yet.

Falcao would be fantastic but too much money. Carroll never got the service he needs. Balls into the box too close to the net. Carroll scores when he gets a ball with pace on it delivered into the box around the edge if the box.

At the end of the day, why did Carroll fail at lfc when he was a star at Newcastle ?

Rodgers is impressive. But seriously Dempsey? He's rubbish . He scores one in four. Surarez is the star, but Is he a striker?

My team

Reina

Johnston agger carra Enrique

Walcott gerrard Allen sterling

Surarez unknown

Downing Kelly sahin ! Coates and boroni as sub

Btw what the hell happens to kuyt where is he?

Rd

Kyut was the 1st transfer he was sold to fernabance

In an achaic 4-4-2 system played only by roy hodgson anymore, and we all know what happened to him

borIni

and kuyt is playing champions league football with fenerbache, have you been on a lunar holiday?

Kuyt was the first out the door, we are not guna play 442, demsey is quality and Sinclair would be much better value for money than walcott.

My 2 cents

Wavertree red

You did yourself a serious mischief by not being aware of Kuyts transfer. Making much of what you said, very disagreeable.
Davey Liver

Carra?I am sorry but I can't believe you have put Carra as as starter.Nah.

Seriously, Carra before skrtel or coates..

Knew I could safely ignore this post once you called Dempsey 'rubbish'.

29 Aug 2012 16:51:43
to me there is no reason downing can't do well at left back, he is one of the fastest players in our team. (between him an glen so probably him)

he has good ball control

and likes to run into space and not really take players on like you have to at rwf (a position that Walcott will hopefully make his own at lfc)

Sterling?

Downing ain't that fast, but agree he could play well there.

Papa G

Not even the fact that I have seen him dive out of more tackles than Harry Kewell, difficult to believe, but true.

Downing would never make a left back, he doesn`t know how to tackle, he pulls out of tackles all the time, he can`t head a ball, he`s no good going forward as a winger let alone a wing back, don`t rate him at all, sell him now before he`s worth nothing, which won`t be long by the way

I'm afraid your wrong Papa,Downing is one of the quickest player 's we have. We ain't got the fastest players in the world but Downing top 3 quickest I reckon. Maybe Sterling and Glenn Johnson faster but can't think of anyone else.
Jonson

He pocesses no plums or tackle to TACKLE

Alright lads, was just wondering if any of you have seen the Sneak Peak of "Being: Liverpool", in which BR gives Sterling a top quality rollicking for running his mouth.

Top quality man management by BR.

Ps. If you haven't a clue what i'm talking about, on YouTube type in " Being Liverpool".

MPez

You're over a week behind everyone else.

MR EM

I watched that and Im not sure I liked it. If I was Sterling, I wouldnt be too happy.
If other teams are going to start trying to sign him, we shouldnt be publising him being made look like an person.

Walcott expected to sign a new contract at arsenal. from a man who thinks hes in the no but not always right but has been tod walcott hasnt been mentioned , and other transfers are a bit under wraps .

29 Aug 2012 16:59:31
We totally missed out on moussa dembele

We can't buy everyone, have you seen how many central midfielders we have?

Red Raw

29 Aug 2012 16:59:07
Inter Milan to bid for Sebastian Coates 9m. I'd take it and buy Michael Dawson {Ed052's Note -

I wouldn't he will be a very good CB for us for many years!

Nah, he's one to keep. They could offer us players and cash then maybe we'd sort somethig out but he's a terrific prospect and is only just settling into Premiership football, the best football.

Are you serious? Coates has masses of potential!

Spoons

Dawson over Coates nah!

BREAKING! - Starting 11 for Hearts; Reina, Kelly, Skrtel, Carra, Downing, Allen, Gerrard, Henderson, Shelvey, Suarez, Morgan.
Subs yet to be confirmed from Jones, Coates, Johnson, Enrique, Borini, Sterling, Ngoo, Ecclestone.
Interestingly, Agger, Spearing, Carroll, Adam & Cole not named as even possible subs.

I'm assuming Gerrard right wing?

Yep. front three is Gerrard right, Morgan centre, Suarez left. Downing as left wing-back

Yea I'm sure the squad wud be announced before the match

Wait and see if you don't believe. When it's officially announced that will be the starting 11 and the subs will come from those named. BREAKING.

Morgan up front? The same Morgan who just went to Blackpool on loan?

Are you trying to imply that dagger will be sold?

29 Aug 2012 16:34:46
ed's just take a look.maybe just maybe 1) gooner's swap walcott plus 8m for carroll ?.2) the 8m to buy sinclair?.3)jay's 3m or 4m plus any other player's that leave us eg cole=dempsey plus 1 more that we dont know.o ps agger to stay i hope.jay essex red for life red till dead {Ed052's Note - No, possible, 3m is reasonable}

29 Aug 2012 16:23:28
Can everyone stop saying one of spearing or Adam will be staying as cover for Lucas. They will both be sold if we can shift them. Sahin, Henderson and shelvey are plenty of cover.
Thanks eds great site

Brendan Rodgers actually said this in his interview that Lucas' injury would not affect transfer policy

Poster above he may've said that but it should

29 Aug 2012 16:23:02
I think, that instead of Henderson playing in an attacking misfield postion, he should play right back, and then Johnson can cover left back. Hendo played well there against Blackburn last year.

Piledriver

I think Henderson should be given the chance (maybe in Europa games) as CAM.....

Spoons

29 Aug 2012 16:47:12
2 things, 1st sahin will not be in squad for hearts and also is that game on tele, what channel? {Ed052's Note - it is not on TV, well, not free tv anyway}

It's on ESPN

29 Aug 2012 16:44:41
If we sign Sinclair Dempsey & walcott then I would be very very pleased with this transfer window wouldn't mind klaas Jan hunterlaar either haha :) agree or not ? An eds can you tell me what the chance of tem players are an would you like them at Liverpool ?

Cheers

BigRedJayy {Ed052's Note - SInclair is possible, but Huntelaar not. I wouldn't want Huntelaar and wouldn't mind Sinclair}

29 Aug 2012 16:21:35
Hi,

So with Man City on the verge of buying Matija Nastasic, will this end their interest in Agger? {Ed052's Note - I think their interest ended a long long time ago}

29 Aug 2012 16:16:26
why are fans so desperate for Huntelaar to come? he is awful and would do nothing in the premier league, slow as a slug, pray he doesnt come to Liverpool.

cobra

I wouldn't worry about that one too much!

But faster than a mexican turbo snail

Even if he was a tortoise - 48 goals in 48 games is bad ass!

Huntelaar is one hell of a player in the box.look at his stats he scored more goals a game than van nistelrooy.
anyone here thinks he wont score us the goals we need is very wrong.
when at ajax him and suarez formed a great partner ship.
if we dont get him we need another 1 and it will help suarez score goals too.

How was he bundasliga top scorer if he he's soooo slow

The reality is he is definitely not slow.that is just ridiculous loose talk..

Person post prob never watched huntalaar apart from on youtube

Seen him sitting on the bench nearly every game for holland to be fair.

29 Aug 2012 16:16:17
Eds do we know of any interest in a LB?
Or can we expect downing to be used in that role and an attacker brought in for his place?
E.g. Walcott, Dempsey etc
Thanks
Kyle {Ed052's Note - Not any more I dont think. Downing will be used sparingly I would have thought}

29 Aug 2012 16:16:09
hi ed's keep up the great work on this site top class,lucas get fit soon mate,we wish you a speedy full recovery see you soon.right ed the last 48hrs is hear buzzing love this part of the window come on LFC pull a rabbit out the bag or 2.the merry go round of ins an out's is about to fire up,jay essex red for life red till dead........who will it be ?? {Ed052's Note - Not sure}

29 Aug 2012 16:14:17
I'm curious what would be people's first choice front line and midfield line ups, IF all the speculated transfers work out?

If they do, we have to select a front 3 from Walcott, Dempsey, Assaidi, Borini, Sterling, and Suarez.

In fairness we know little or nothing of Assaidi- he could turn out to be a brilliant player in Rogers system, but we just dont know enough yet.

So for me, it has to be:-

Right wing: Dempsey, because he is so versatile, and proven creator and finisher with 24 goals last season

CF: Walcott or Borini, depending on form

Left wing: Suarez

Sterling and Asssaidi could have run outs in the cup, maybe?

Without Lucas we choice in mf seems easier- Sahin, Allen and Gerrard would have to start, no contest.

For me, Gerrard could give way to Shelvey if he starts to flag as the season goes on. He's been a great, great player, but he's not the player he was a few years ago, and how could he be? Age will surely catch up with all of us.

I think most people will agree about the mf, but I imagine there's lots more controversy picking the front three.

AC

Walcott not coming. Just a bunch of BS which has been going on every transfer window for the past 5 years. He will stay with Arsenal.

29 Aug 2012 16:09:22
carroll,adam and spearin not in squad for tomorrow.downin will start at left back !

Good all poor

29 Aug 2012 16:07:20
Eds, would be grateful if you would clarify this, why has the dempsey deal taken so long to sort out? i read posts on here they say it is because BR now has had wait and sell to then make an offer and watch wage levels, is this accurate? is that just the case for Dempsey? if so would make sense as Adam/Spearing/Cole are yet to go... but if this is true and we know now Carroll is staying does this make the Waclott deal difficult? i hear on the other hand, FSG are keen to recruit young, future talent.... Thanks {Ed052's Note - Becuase of Fulham hagling.}

29 Aug 2012 16:06:27
Why do people seriously want Walcott, all he has is pace, no end product, vision or actual skill, if we're going to sign an attacker sign affelay, i'd much rather have him.

No end product? He scored 11 goals last year. Which is the same as our top striker. He also had a pile of assists. Please read the stats before making meaningless comments.

Yeah, 'cause Affelay is a foriegn player makes him better.

Despite that fact that Affelay played a total of 5 games last year with 0 goals. In fact, he's played 34 games in the last 2 years and scored 2 with 0 assists. Whereas Walcott, in last 2 seasons, has played 84 games scored 24 goals and gotten 22 assists, and he did it in the English League.

Walcott would be great for us in a Brendan Rodgers team.

SpudRed

Wow how often do you watch affelay not playing for Barcelona to automatically want him more than walcott
derryred

And maybe Rogers will offer Walcott the chance to play in a central role, rather than out wide. Where Walcott feels is his best position.

29 Aug 2012 16:00:18
Alright I am just going to say what i and alot of people around me in the Anny Road are thinking. Suarez isnt world class, we are all kidding ourselves trying to think it. I want it, we all want it to be true but it just aint happening. His touch is poor, has anyone noticed everytime he tries to take a player on, it hits the shins of the defender. Sometimes he luckily gets past and then he over runs it. Rush, Fowler, Owen, Torres in their pomp had another level where they would put the sword to teams. Luis just hasnt got it.

Also i would like to stop hearing people compare young Raheem to John Barnes. Yeah they both operate wide and are of Jamaican descent. But i dont here people comparing Fowler to Crouchy. Think about that. Long live King Dalglish, is Prince Carroll heir to the throne or will someone else rise in the transfer window.
Bill the red

Have you watched Suarez play before?

The optimism is oozing out of Anny road...

Piledriver

Suarez is great BUT his decision making is poor.. always trys to go alone, doesn't look up.. it looked like it would kill him to pass it at the right time sometimes against city

So, he's had 2 bad games by his own standards and still been one of our best players. Whoever think Suarez isn't a world class player does not know football.

Last time I was in the Anny Rd I was the only one singing. Nothing like the old days.. So just get on with supporting the team..

Suarez is world class without a doubt and loves Liverpool unlike the striker he replaced who is now at a big club? Supposedly..

Good times ahead.

Hello Eds,
any news on outgoings
I know spearing is close to being moved on but what about Adam, Cole and Carroll.
I hope you can understand the concern as only 2 days remaining in the window.
Also any news on Eccleston , I feel he is similar to Spearing (championship Quality) ? {Ed052's Note - They will be going hopefully, but I am not sure when}

29 Aug 2012 15:59:36
I'm actually gutted about joey Barton.
France is nowhere near far enough away.

MIKEY

Feel sorry for the french. they import thier cheese and champagne to us and we give them barton. Where is the justice in the world.

Who cares!? It's the French anyway!

I think you mean export

29 Aug 2012 15:57:31
People have to remember that walcott hasn't been made available by arsenal but is refusing a 75k a week contract. Do you think if he signs for us he's going to be on less, I think not. Imo there's better wingers ot there for less wages. I wudnt be happy if we were paying those wages for pace because e has no end product otherwise he wud be in arsenals first team. Ed anything to add mate?

Melbourne; {Ed052's Note - not really. Nothing new has happened today}

29 Aug 2012 16:07:04
ed..cant understand why this huntelaar rumour is gathering so much pace?? i dont know bt personally i dont think it will happen even for million of years to come.. {Ed052's Note - Its just rubbish}

Absolutely..!

{Ed052's Note - Hello all, a new profile has just gone up on the profiles site. It is of our one and only Sebastain Coates, who, in my opinion will be a real star. There are a couple of videos, and an in depth and quick review of the player on the profile, so please check it out!!

HEY FELLOW REDS. Drew9 Here.

I've been following this transfer window attentively, and believe Brendan Rodgers is satisified with the current squad, just need to offload some players on high wages that aren't considered essential in the squad. He knows we are short on attacking options, but has great faith in Raheem Sterling, which i do prefer than signing someone like Dempsey. There is definatly interest in Theo Walcott due to his simalarities with Raheem Sterling. He's sees Raheem Sterling benefiting greatly of Walcott's presence in the young wingers progression. Do not expect any others signing unless a suitable bid for Daniel Agger comes in, and the club will accept. A young center back will be bought for relatively cheap, possibly from Spain, and the rest of funds from Agger's sale will be put to side untill the winter window, if the squad needs tweaking. Carrol will be allowed to leave on loan if Daniel Agger leaves, because the owners are astute buisnessmen, and are doing a great job on the clubs financial situation, so the Agger profit will make up for the potential losses from the Andy Carrol transfer.

I hope this helps fellow red army. You'll Never Walk Alone. #JTF96

ed, what happened with tello coming on loan? Thanks {Ed052's Note - No chance}

29 Aug 2012 15:48:56
Can Sahin play against Hearts, as all the hype is about his debut against the Gunners?

Piledriver {Ed052's Note - I think he might be able to, I shall check for you mate. And he will now play against Arsenal, I am pretty sure yes (due to Lucas)}

No, BR has said that his registration hasn't been completed at the press conference today.

No he will not play against hearts because he isnt registered
Esso {Ed052's Note - I know}

Thanks for your reply Ed052. Brendan has just said that he wont play against Hearts, as he hasn't been registered in time. But debut should be against Arsenal.

Piledriver {Ed052's Note - Yes mate, just seen that}

BR said today that Shin's registration won't be through in time to play against Hearts.

Rodgers said in the presser he can't play against Hearts. Hasn't been registered, was signed after the registration was done.

Ojay {Ed052's Note - Yes, Sahin will debut against Arsenal}

I think he'll get some minutes vs Hearts, just because he hasn't played in a while.

Need him to be sharp for the Arsenal match

RedSG

BR said he hasn't got international clearence for hearts but will play against arsenal

so expect the line up against hearts in the middle to be something like this

Reina
Kelly, Carragher, Coates, Robinson
Henderson, Adam
Shelvey
Downing, Carroll, Assaidi {Ed052's Note - I would not expect Assaidi to play. He might play if pigs could fly}

Rodgers interview on the official LFC website; he's stated the registration won't be through for Sahin to play tomorrow night but he may play some part in the weekend game against arsenal.

Cuchulainn's Hounds

Sahin can play for Europa League as he didn't play for any team in europe this year.

BR says he won't play

Rodgers said today that he isn't registered yet so won't be in squad tomorrow

Sahin was not registered in time to play against Hearts tomorrow

29 Aug 2012 15:46:22
Is there any chance of tello coming on loan ED's? Would be a great signing

RedJk {Ed052's Note - No}

29 Aug 2012 15:41:24
Eds,

Any possibility that Assaidi can play as a central striker? Looks like he has mostly played wide in his career. Looks like a decent finished with both feet. {Ed052's Note - no, behind the front man though maybe}

29 Aug 2012 15:40:26
Downing moving to LB, so won't be sold. Carroll running out of options 50/50 to still move. Walcott real possibility. Either Walcott or Affelay to arrive. Hope Lucas injury doesn't mean lifeline to Spearing...

29 Aug 2012 15:39:35
1. Carroll for only £14m with £2m add ons (but will be undisclosed)
ii. replaced by Huntelaar £12- £14m

2. Downing out for £10m - £12m
ii. replaced by Walcott £13m with 2m add ons

3. Spearing out for £2.5m & Adam out for £5m
ii. funding dempsey for £7m

4. Cole, Doni out
ii. freeing up wages to be used to buy a left back.

29 Aug 2012 15:38:21
eds is there any truth in the aaron lennon rumours? {Ed052's Note - no}

29 Aug 2012 15:32:10
With Lucas out for 2-3 months, It looks like Adam will be staying till at least January.

Nub

No it doesnt

Why? if we sell spearing and adam we can buy dempsey the we'd still have

gerrard, allen, sahin, dempsey, shelvey and henderson in the middle.

Adam has not role, and certainly not as DM. BR even said today that Adam has a great future with Scottish National Team, but never even commented on his future Liverpool career. ..

29 Aug 2012 15:30:54
Hi Eds. How will Lucas' injury affect transfer dealings? Will it put a stop to the sales of Spearing and Adam? {Ed052's Note - No, it wont effect it. We already have plenty of cover}

29 Aug 2012 15:27:54

29 Aug 2012 15:26:37
Can you put this on banter ed

You got too feel sorry for Lucas never had a big injury once while he couldn't get in the team now had two in a year when he is one of our best players

Jayblaur89

29 Aug 2012 14:42:05
Lucas out for 3 months. disaster. but Sahin can fill midfield void now with Allen been more defensive. Adam will not be leaving now until January.
Redmam YNWA

We still don't need adam. shelvey allen sahin henderson gerrard coady and suso can all play there.

29 Aug 2012 14:39:40
Hi EDs and everyone else. Everyone is posting about Walcott playing on the wing and yes this is where he has played most of his time. But if im not wrong (which i may be) he likes to play as striker more could it be possible that we are not bringing him in to play on the wing but to play as striker? I would not mind seeing this with him suarez and dempsey/sterling/borini/anyone else interchanging throughout the game.

ElRobbeNino {Ed052's Note - He will probably play upfront yes}

We play 3 up front now. Borini and Suarez have been popping up in the center or slightly wider depending on movement. I see Walcott and/or Dempsey doing the same.

SpudRed

29 Aug 2012 14:38:35
Lucas out for 3 months, liverpool to hijack moussa dembele's move to spurs, £16m.

If only....spurs are getting a great player there for 15 million, quite surprised the top clubs are not in for him

29 Aug 2012 14:34:34
One of either Adam or Spearing will stay to be cover for Lucas till Jan. Cole to go to West Ham or QPR. LFC are looking for a replacement for Carroll before/if we let him go. Probably a hundred options that could what i've read on here for the past couple of weeks. Plus Walcott looks close to be signing for LFC. No idea whats happening with the Dempsey move.

FowlerGod.

Nope. Shelvey and Henderson provide better cover with Allen, Sahin and Gerrard starting. And should we sign Dempsey can drop in to CAM. We have no need to keep Adam or Spearing. Allen was tremendous as CDM against Citeh.

29 Aug 2012 14:28:05
Nooo lucas out for 2/3 months:'(
I pray to god he returns quickly with full fitness and that we dont have same problems as last year. get well soon lucas

The squad and the formation is better equipped now for this situation than it was last season.

29 Aug 2012 14:27:36
I have said this for a while now, Walcott & Affellay would make up for a perfect transfer window. Some really talented players have been brought in to make vast improvements to the squad.

We have really tackled the problems that have hindered our league form over the past few years. The biggest problems being no pace, and lack of out & out wingers.

I think also a bit of a de-clutter is also in need. Get rid of Spearing, Adam, Carroll & maybe Henderson on loan. I would be sad to see Carroll go, but he will just sit on the bench at LFC, and he would provide us with much needed transfer funds.

To summarise the perfect transfer window:

Ins:

Borini
Allen
Assaidi
Sahin
Walcott
Affelay

Outs:
Aurelio
Kuyt
Maxi
Bellamy
Aquilani

I believe liverpool can achieve top four this season, our display against city was brilliant, and new players coming in are looking decent, sahin player of the season in germany, allen brilliant passer and borini looking deadly up in the front three, i believe another attacker such as walcott/ dempsey, to strengthen the attack with sterling as back up , i think liverpool can certainly get top four

Reina

....... Skrtel/Kelly ............. Dagger/Coates

GJ/Kelly ......... Lucas/Allen ............ Enrique/Downing

......... Sahin/Shelvey .......... Gerrard/Dempsey

Suarez/Assaidi ... Borini/Dempsey ... Walcott/Sterling

Youth: Robinson, Sama, Suso, Morgan, Flanagan, Coady, Wisdom, Ibe, McLaughlin, Dunn, Ngoo

Red tinted, absolutely, but that looks like a strong squad with youth, pace, energy, experience, and wins in it.

He didn't aggravate his injury - this was a completely separate injury, to do with his thigh not his knee.

Lucas out for upto 3 months. Could this mean a change of plan in transfer market. No lucas and no spearing who is going to wing the ball in the middle?

Kev the Red

Allen, Sahin?!!

Allen, Sahin, Henderson?!!!

Nuri Sahin.........

Allen ?, Gerrard? , Sahin?

Did we not manage Sunday without Lucas for about 88 mins

Damn lucas out for 2 -3 months

29 Aug 2012 15:13:07
Was just thinking. This could be our potential matchday squad:

-Pepe

-Jonno
-Skrtel
-Agger
-Enrique

-Allen
-Lucas
-Sahin

-Suarez
-Walcot
-Dempsey

Subs: Jones, Kelly, Gerrard, Sterling, Borini, Assaidi, Shelvey

That's a very good team. Much technical ability, pace, creativity and goals. The bench is equally as stronger.
If that's not strength in depth, I don't know what is.

Seriously we should go all out for Clint and Theo. Imo, they'd complete the jigsaw. Theo, in particular, will give us a new, different dimension we've long been crying out for.
At 23, his best years are yet to come and he can improve a LOT, which I'm sure Brendan would back himself to help the lad do just that.

Sterling, Fab and Theo at their peak, playing along a (hopefully) fully mature, composed and calmer Suarez, will be frightening.

Overall, I think we well set up for the next decade or so.
Seb Coates, Kelly, Allen, Shelvey, Hendo, Ster, Fab, Robbo and Suso will be here for the next ten 10 yrs. Throw in as well Ibe, Sinclair and Morgo and the future looks even brighter.

I know it's probably a tad too early to be expecting much for some of these lads. But remember, this is the best pool of talent we've had coming thru in years. With our youth honchos, among very best in Europe, little should go wrong.

But all of this isn't going to happen overnight. Time and patience will be of the essence. There won't be no quick fixes, no magic wands, no bottomless pits of Russian or Abu Dhabi largesse; only shovels, spades and pikes and men hard at work.

Yep, it's gonna take time, an awful lot of time (which bastion of invincibility didn't?), but eventually come together it will. Look at the masterclass that is Barca. What we are seeing now there is years and years and of meticulous planning, toiling and patience at La Masia.

Our youth will be our mainstay. When we are done with redeveloping Anfield to 60k +, we will, like Barca, be able to supplement our team with 1 or 2 £30m, £40m signings, as and when is deemed necessary.

For now, just be patient and stick by the owners, Brendan and the boys.
Bleating about who we signing or not signing isn't going to help; there's BUGGER ALL you can do to change anything. So instead of giving the owners, manager and players unending grief, just support them. You've nothing to lose doing that, do you?

BARNEY
ps: ed, any headway being made as regards selling Carroll and Adam? Also how serious is the interest in Theo?

Good team Barney, I dont think it would do Gerrard any harm to understand he is not an automatic starter anymore. In my opinion he was awful against WBA and was lucky not to be dropped for Man City game.

Perhaps the occasional kick up the Arse would see him up his game.

Kev the Red

Great post

Great post Barney but you are forgetting that we have other people in our youth that for me personally are better as in conor coady (the new Gerrard) and that young American so I would say are future is very bright

29 Aug 2012 15:12:55
To all the people who keep linking Downing with a move away from liverpool, you may as well give up because he is being given a second chance by rodgers but only if he is willing to move to left back, Downing is very excited to be doing this and so am I. also that would put to dead any left backs coming in even if we did sell Enrique (which is likely due to new interest in the player)

Mike B

Should give. A Ca second chance in goal se how he works out

29 Aug 2012 15:12:13
hey eds- quick question. with all your views being pretty decent what would you rate the walcott signing at from 0-10 obviously 10 being 100% signed. would you say lfc are in the driving seat for the player. others dont rate him. are you mad lol i rate him for sure {Ed052's Note - 7 maybe}

29 Aug 2012 15:11:15
Lucas' injury now gives Jordan Henderson a chance to prove doubters wrong and that he is going to be a great player for us by hopefully getting more game time. Speedy recovery Lucas.
(irishred)

Sahin and shelvey r ahead of henderson

I think its clear that Shelvey is ahead of Henderson and Sahin will be ahead both as he is on loan (with us paying a huge loan package).

Allen. Sahin
Gerrard

or

Gerrard, Allen
Sahin

29 Aug 2012 15:09:58
Terrible news about Lucas - looks like he will be out until November time. On the flip side, we should see a lot of Sahin! I can't wait to see him play for us, pure class.

Nick

29 Aug 2012 15:06:46
Andy Carroll to start against hearts along with Sahin

Sahin wont be in the squad 100%

Sahin is not registered. I doubt Carroll will feature as I don't think the club would want to risk him becoming injured and thus meaning he would fail a medical in a potential move away. If he does play, then I would assume we are not selling him....

I don't know if its any truth but I heard Carroll is not in the squad along with Spearing and Adam.

lucas may be sidelined up to 3 months. WTF

Its bad news, however a midfield of sahin, allen and gerrard is good. I hope coady is given some chances during this period.

Rafa's Purple Goatie

Good job we got sahin then brendon cant be doing that bad a job we would be watching spearing or that lad from wigan name passes me by at the moment

Good thing we got Sahin

Id say 2 months tops he recovers well chin up lucas Y.N.W.A tommy Irish Red

Sahin, allen, shelvey, henderson, gerrard, coady, suso all likely to still be there.

I hope Suso gets a cameo for encouragement and motivation early on in the season. He has improved soo much last season and over the summer, went to the reserves (u21's showed that he is a star in that team).

And I can't help but think that Ngoo deserves his chance ahead of Morgan how ever good I think Morgan is.

Ngoo is like Yaya Tour on the ball but a striker. big guy, strong, fast, quick feet and always causes trouble plus he has become more and more of a team player.

Sorry ed do we have money for walcott with out selling carrol cheers

I've only seen a bit of huntelaar but would he not be similar to Carroll ? Style wise .. and in my opinion defoe and lewandowski would be complete opposites to them .. personally I would be really excited if lewandowski signed and not really about the other two ... but I think walcott or the winger we buy will be Carroll's replacement to get borini off the wing not a striker.. opinions ?

Lfc89

29 Aug 2012 14:54:26
Liverpool look to make at least 2 signings before deadline. But it would only mean other players will struggle to get a game like assaidi, henderson, borini and Carroll. Not sure if I like the idea of that.

29 Aug 2012 14:45:01
I have actually stoped worrying about the transfer situation.
1st home game, new manager in and everybody trying to find their feet/place in the squad and we did ourselves dam proud against the defending champions. Man City's team and management were unchanged (ok the old Tevez has returned). And us, in a still very much developing time (minus an obvious error or two) gave them the hardest game they have had in 2 years.
Add Sahin and a new striker in to the mix and continue to support the development of Suarez, Kelly, Jordan Henderson, Sebastian Coates, Raheem Sterling and our other rising stars and we have a flippin awesome squad who WILL challenge for top 4 and beyond in the next couple of seasons!!

Would love Walcott and Dempsey but I still think we need a real goal scoring striker.

Carroll is a target man, not a finisher, Suarez is a creative attacking player not a finisher as are Walcott, Dempsey, Assaidi, Sterling, Downing and I suspect Borini is that kind of player too.

We need a player who, when given the chance (which will happen a lot with the above names playing around him) who will find the back of the net.

In that respect, we miss Torres. We need a player who is in the same mould as he is (was in his prime).

Would love Huntelaar but doubt very much it will happen.

Smirky.

Huntelaar is nothing like torres as a footballer

tom1975

This side is being built for 2-3 years time and borini will be the finisher

Huntelaar not strong enough or quick enough for the premier league, i fear he would be a massive flop

Diego milito would be very shrude buisness i think i thought crespo would have been when keane left we lost torres to injury and had to rely on voronin never mind

Torres is pure class mate, while huntelaar is just another older version of carroll, only good in the air. Imo the only striker good enough to compete with an in form torres is Higuain, n maybe benzema. Shame we dont have the money to get them.

Hi Eds and all ITKs

Just wondering what our official stance is in the transfer market.

Dempsey, Walcott, Sturridge all being mentioned, but BR went and signed Assaidi completely under the radar.

So, are there any other undercover deals that people are aware off.

They wouldn't be undercover if anyone knows about them :-)

55p thats a good fee for such quality. I was expecting the fee to be closer to the 70p mark.

You disclosed the fee, now we know that you overpaid ... your snack time experience is fitting homage to our spending last summer.

Why would you buy a mars bar for 55p, when for just 10m you could've bought adam johnson?

Just giving you a transfer update.

Mars Bar has succesfully completed his transfer to the stomach.

Hi eds
Talk starting once again around michael owen!
is there really anything in this? {Ed052's Note - hahahahahahahahahaha. NO}

29 Aug 2012 13:33:33
The Walcott contract situation at Arsenal reminds me of the Michael Owen contract situation at Liverpool when Rafa took over. Owen had been offered a new improved contract but continually refused to sign it over about a 6 month period saying his agent was unavailable. So Liverpool sold him to Real Madrid for a lot less than he could have gone for 1 year earlier.

29 Aug 2012 13:26:41
All of Walcotts stats are admittedly quite good, but there's something he adds which stats cant show. At Arsenal, they liked to play pass and move football. Not so much tiki taka, but very similar, just a little more rigid. However the best way to counter this (as we found against Hearts) is play a high line and apply a lot of pressure. We were reduced to passing it around the halfway line, risking mistakes.
Step up Theo Walcott. He has so much pace to burn, he forces teams to drop deeper for fear of being hit by the through ball, so that rather than Arsenal passing it around the centre circle, they can pass it around the edge of the box, and work an opening closer to goal. Messi gives this same effect to Barcelona, and Ronaldinho before him. Walcott is very crucial in Arsenals team, and if we managed to sign him, it would not only improve our side, but greatly weaken Arsenals. He is worth £15m easily. Hes not just a speed weapon, but a very adept footballer 24 goals and 22 assists in 2 years in think?
Whats to complain about. Suarez is very good at beating his man, but doesn't have the legs to get away from them afterwards, however if he's beating his man 20 yards from goal instead of 40, he doesn't need to get away from them, he can shoot straight away. Walcott will also allow Dempsey/Carroll to head the ball inside the box instead of 30 yard out flick ons. Pace is so vital, you don't even know it (sorry moneysupermarket, no copyright intended!).

YNWA! (Adam)

Walcott, dempsey, suarez, borini,sterling,assaidi ..
we could have the best attack for years to come..quality,depth,pace,experience everything..
add to that a dream midfield and a solid defense..we're ready to go..just hope reina gets some competition..

Is that you Wenger? trying to sell ? good marketing..lol

seriously i would love to have him at Liverpool

29 Aug 2012 13:23:51
If we get Dempsey and Walcott what do you think will be our front 6?

Allen-Lucas-Sahin
Gerrard-Suarez-Demsey

Walcott to go into Gerrard's place if if there is an injury in midfield and Gerrard goes there, sterling and assaidi can be impact subs as well as Walcott.

While Lucas is out:

Allen
Gerrard-Sahin
Walcott-Suarez-Dempsey

29 Aug 2012 13:13:21
I know obviously sterling is extremely young, but i'm kinda worried if walcott comes in it will slow down his development. In my eyes sterling can be far greater than Walcott, and I feel if he comes in sterling should still be given plenty of games to gain experience. However If we sign him least we are getting more attacking, pacey players that we have lacked for a long , long time. cheers

Danny

Sterling left, Walcott right

--------------Borini----------------

Subs: Jones, Kelly, 2 from Lucas/Shelvey/Henderson, Downing, Walcott, Dempsey

This means no place for Cole, Adam, Spearing, Carroll and an occasional game for Assaidi & Coates.

Looks to me like the deepest squad we've had in a while - no real superstars but solidity and skill all round.

Enough for Top 4, you think?

Cheers.
Doha Red (apologies for long one)

And obviously no place in the squad at all for Carra..

NS

I think Rodgers will find a place for Lucas in the srarting line up, when he's fit, and I imagine Sterling wont be a starter in every game, we dont want him burning out.

Alan Partridge

Sadly you've still got Reina in goal, Carroll has to at least be on the bench, and you seem to have names on non Liverpool players there.

Theyre all superstars
5gold stars

What about nnew signings and lucas there will be a good bit of squad roation with players getting regular rest in mid table clashes players will be kept fresh whilst others prove a point so should be strong all areound with some good key performances

It seems clear that Brendan Rodgers is using Luis Suarez as a Central Striker with Fabio Borini on the right .

TheScarf

Lucas should start. So my team would be:

-------------------Reina--------------------
Johnson----Skrtel-----Agger-----Enrique
-------------------Lucas--------------------
-----------Allen-----------Sahin-----------
---Gerrard-----------------------Suarez---
-----------------Dempsey------------------

Subs: Jones, Kelly, Henderson, Borini, Carragher, Assaidi, Carroll

BR will more likely play both Lucas and Allen in the same team. Gerrard and Sahin might rotate or Gerrard might even play on the right of the 3 attackers. He only has a couple of years left and his best days are gone.
Expect Walcott to rotate with Sterling.

Coates is too good to play just an occasional game, same goes for assaidi. I very much doubt dempsey n walcott will come to sit on the bench. Walcott will take sterling's place, while dempsey will play instead of borini.
Indian Buzzer

Put Walcott in for Borini and Dempsey for Sterling and I think that could be a pretty formidable side. Although with a rotating squad yours is certainly possible at some point as well.

Any centre half on the bench?

Replace Sterling with Assaidi

I would have wallcott and Dempsey on for borini and sterling,both great prospects but not ready to be starting week in week out for lfc

Cheers for the thoughts. Just to clarify, when I said "no role for...", my assumption was that they would be leaving (Cole, Adam, Spearing, Carroll). Of course if he were to stay, I think Carroll is an automatic for the bench. Lucas will likely start if he's fit. I just don't know about Stevie G playing on the right - didn't quite work before in my view.

In any case, going by some of the combinations suggested on here, I think the fact that we have many more options in terms of players and formations than we've had for a while becomes clearer.

Good times ahead!

Look at the way we played against City on Sunday where after the game YaYa Toure said 'that was the hardest game I've played in so far in my time in England.' Imagine if we'd been able to thrown in Nuri Sahin, Oussama Assaidi, Clint Dempsey and Theo Walcott aswell, we would have blown them off the park!
That's why I think that if we can add Dempsey and Walcott and maybe even Ibrahim Afellay on loan for good measure lol, before the end of the window we'd be in a very strong position for the rest of the season!

Come on Reds!

Yea but then we would have had 15 on the pitch - which is hardly in the spirit of the game ;) RED LENIN

Very true my friend.. Anyone else think city looked like they didn't want to come back out second half?

They didn't look there usual confident selves coming back onto the pitch.

Don't get carried away. City (Dzeko) had an opportunity to win the game. Okay, we conceded a poor goal but the free for our goal was probably harsh. There's still room for improvement but if we can get that effort and application every week things will improve.

Great post but I think you will find that we are only allowed 11 starting players .......

Could you please post this ed's, I haven't really seen any of your opinions on spearing? I've seen the list of clubs interested and they talk about him with a lot of praise, he is more a player who forefills a job (hold and pass), so why all the fuss? I watch him play week in week out and I haven't to say I'm not too worried about him leaving, other than it's sad to see a local Wirral lad go {Ed052's Note - My opinion is that he's a great lad, has passion for the club, loves the club, but just aint going to cut it here, whioch is really sad to see}

Rogers going to play walcott through the middle if we get him

He wants a flowing fluent front 3 whoever is in it, say out of Suarez, Walcott, Sterling, Borini, Dempsey, Assaidi, Morgan or Sturridge if he was signed.

Its a squad game and we need competition for every place. theo will add to the competiton which is great. one position with no competition is gk. which is badly needed. pepe only at 70% for the past 2 seasons which is a shame cause we all know how good he is.

Eds or Macca, would really like to know if carroll goes, do you think we will be buying a replacement? And do you know who the possibilities are? I really hope he doesnt! I think he is a fantastic player. {Ed052's Note - I think the replacementts could be Walcott and Dempsey}

Walcott and Dempsey for Carroll would be a very good deal for us I think. I could see a front 3 of Suarez, Dempsey, Walcott matching or exceeding our goal tally from all last season plus a fair few from the likes of Borini, Sterling, and Gerrard.

29 Aug 2012 12:54:20
Personally I would be very pleased with our transfer window if Dempsey and Walcott were to arrive as Macca has suggested. The only thing on my mind now, is a 'what if?.' What if BR had the money KK spent, not so wisely last year? No dis-resrepect intended to the players, it was not there fault, but the managerial structure this year seem to be spending more wisely. A few doubts about Allen's price at first from some fans, but I think he is worth every penny.
Good to see fans being more positive on this site now. Personally, positive/supportive fan base is as important to me as results.
Thanks to all the Eds for their hard work, particular thanks to Ed49 for positive/supportive response to my post a few weeks ago, and thank to the regulars for their positive replies to the same post.

All of you guys putting forward Walcott as a right winger , or right sided attacker , are you therefore proposing we sell Suarez then ?

If you are suggesting that Suarez should be our central striker ( we only play with one ) , did you not see the West Brom game ? {Ed019's Note - Suarez cannot play every game}

The beauty of our type of 4-3-3 is that you can play with 3 forwards, 2 wingers and a forward or a combination. No need to replace anyone. In any case, Suarez could play CF whereby Borini could be used either side or be used as back-up, meaning Carroll's exit would more or less already be covered.

ChrisMiz

Walcptt boroni and suarez can play across the front three interchanging posistions or playing the channels. stevie62.

Can play walcot thru the centre , he destroyed chelsea n spurs last season wen he played central. its a squad game

Suarez Borini and Walcott are all capable of interchanging positions, left side, centre, or on the right at will, that's what BR is looking for, so it can be mixed up and defenders can't keep a track of their marked men

Walcott Dempsey and Suarez do me

To those posting about the club needing a new Left back, Rodgers said he wants Downing to fill the void.

Rodgers wants Downing to cover as left back and as a winger. Rodgers commented on Downings ability to do such a thing and the modern game calling for such players. He also mentioned that Downing played at left back during Middlesbrough's Uefa cup run where they reached the final.

It was on a website Liverpool articles. Just thought it would ease some of the worries of a left back joining.

He didnt, he said it was a possibility.

I personally dont think walcott is anything special, same as most fans on here by the sounds of it, but we have been used to watching him play predominently on the wing for arsenal. maybe playing as part of an interchangable front 3 could bring out the best in him. could be exciting to watch suarez, walcott and either sterling or dempsey (if we get him) playing together. either way, we will be more dangerous in attack than we were last season and a push for 4th is far from out of the question.

I may be speaking too soon but, this is probably the best transfer window for our great club in a very long time in terms of the number of quality players being brought in. Very few, if any, have questioned any of the additions or the prices. Here's to the future.

ChrisMiz

I, so far, haven't been disappointed in a single signing. We have reduced the wage bill and former stars have moved on. We are at our strongest since 2008/09 and we look like we could even surpass that in the next season. Our squad is far stronger when you look at the bench and still see quality talent that would fit into most premier league teams.

29 Aug 2012 12:43:38
News from my Arsenal source is that Walcott is seriously WORRIED more than anything with the lack of improvement on his current contract. After throwing a mini tantrum last year (80% agent talk, 20% Theo bluster) about wages, he was promised that his demands would be met THIS year...

Now, from what I understand, those cash promises haven't quite been met - that, along with the fact that Theo feels he will be squeezed out of the starting line up (thanks to Arsenal's new signings) means he is on the look out for "a new challenge".

He has limited options as he wants to go to a "big club" and only to a team that he feels he would be "first choice" at.

It all adds up to a move to LFC if we can find the funds (by selling)...or unless Juventus get involved too.

LeTrench

News from my arsenal source ? oh please do us a favour and stop typing such drivel

More like him wanting to move to a club with long term ambitions. Arsenal have not won a trophy for 7 years, n it looks like that run will continue. On the other hand, our squad is improving under BR, no doubt walcott would rather join us than play for a club which sells all its best players to play with the cash.

The truth is out there!

Just a few days left til the window slams shut. All the speculation, information and claims to be ITK will be put to rest for now. It is wise to remember amongst all the hype that obviously intensifies over these next few days, hat there is a truth. The truth is only BR and Liverpool FC Officials know exactly what is happening regards outs and ins. However, for all the debating, opinions and claims, it is clear that Liverpool FC are a team that has managed to create a young squad, a squad which could develop into a seriously potent force. Time will tell, but for the first time in many years, there is another truth, that we are in a much healthier position all round in football terms, in business terms and in future terms. I personally think FSG have done an admiral work so far, work that will set us on course for greatness once again.

Hi Eds and Reds,
All this negativity about Reina, I do still think he's the right man for the job. He has been amazing in the past but I do think complacency set in for a while. The thing is, his game is very much based is our first man of attack. When he collects the ball, the first thing he does is try and get us attacking straight away. When Torres was here, the understanding they had, the speed of the counter attack was phenomenal, but since then, he's had Suarez, Big Andy, Downing and Kuyt to try and start the attack of with and none of them are really known for their pace. I do believe with Sterling, Borini, possibly Walcott as well, we can again bring the best out of reina and start these long attacking punts to space and we will benefit, He is the best at doing this out of any keeper I've seen. He has been caught out more over the last couple of years because he has been playing the ball out short and by the time we get to the halfway line, we have lost possession so he has been under more pressure. I know Rodgers wants the ball on the ground and keep possession etc but I think even he knows that with a bit of pace up front, Reina's pin point punts are very dangerous.
Just my opinion.

Reina, by his own admission was poor last season. Not a good start to the new season either. He's not the goalie he was, and I believe he should be replaced asap !

I agree, Reina has not been a patch on what he was 2-3 seasons ago, He has cost us quite a few points over the last couple of seasons and he seems to have no confidence catching the ball lately. At the very least needs some serious competition as I feel he thinks he is a definate starter every week.

Looks like Liverpool will be a revolving door for the next few days. Spearing is pretty much gone (think everyone knows that) and Adam wont be too far behind him (2 clubs interested but don't know who they are). Sounds like Walcott or Dempsey at the moment, but not both, more likely Walcott (been in touch with his agent for the last two months). Huntelaar rumours are true, in discussions with his agent about a transfer. Not heard anything about Cole, Carroll or Downing but will update if I hear anything.

I'm hoping we really put forth an effort to get Walcott... I would also like to see us pick up Affelay & keep Carroll rather than get Dempsey...

29 Aug 2012 12:13:06
I can understand why people have their hesitations over Walcott, but I don't think everyone is seeing the bigger picture. In the press, on MOTD etc people have discussed at length his lack of end product, but his statistics are fairly impressive making that opinion invalid almost. He wouldn't be scoring goals or getting numerous assists if he had no end product, would he?

In his career he's played a lot of games both in the champions league and at international level. He's still only 23, developing as a player and does have A strong character and seems a level headed guy. He's also been unlucky with injuries in recent seasons and does seem to take some time to find his touch and composure again when he returns. This again doesn't seem to be considered when his finishing product is constantly questioned.

Sometimes players don't always settle in a team and something doesn't click. Despite those saying Wenger nurtures players and is the best youth coach around. He can be with the right player, but sometimes he alienates them and they don't progress until they leave the club. This will happen with Walcott if he joins us, I feel.

Papa G

expect dempsey +1 winger (propably walcott very little chance for sinclair)

Jose Enrique,

The Spanish left back joined us last year having had his best season with Newcastle since his arrival in 2007. The first 5 months he played under KD Enrique was probably only second to Skrtle as been the most consistent player at the club.

Then suddenly Enrique's form at the start of 2012 dropped significantly, either this or opposition players worked him out, to me Enrique hasn't been the player since.

I honestly think his constant dribbling out of defence then stopping to swivel back on himself as caught up with him.
He no longer looks like the rock he first did when he came to the club.

I believe BR has also noticed that Enriques a one trick pony and this is why BR believes Kelly is now a better option. I wouldn't be surprised to see Enriques name mentioned over the next 48hrs up to transfer deadline.

Enrigue is ok but the queen mary turns around quicker

Love the word Suarezness, i have racked my brain and agree there is no word to describe him it would take at least 100 so we will stick with Suarezness when describing the best no.7 for many a year

Walcott likely to choose Liverpool because
1. He wants more regular football
2. He wants better wages
3. He is reputedly a Liverpool fan
4. He is suited to the Rodgers system
5. Liverpool is a young team with the age capacity to grow into a major force.
6. Liverpool need pacey additions

These are all valid reasons that may sway him in our direction should he choose to move on from Arsenal.

Hello eds..! I am a little bit confused. We are going for Walcott and Dempesy (both incredible addition to the squad by the way) but is any of these transfer related to Carroll's outgoing..?
I mean if these two come and the Big Man leaves, will we see a striker coming our side..?

And are we in for a left back..?

Any update on lucas injury and will it now affect Adams exodus. I mean is it possible that Adam stays as we are short of one midfielder. Or will we go for a defensive midfielder as we were quite fragile last season when lucas was injured....?

Sorry for so many questions
Thanx a lot

Musivnation {Ed052's Note - Carroll would surely have to go for both to come in yes. I dont think a deal for a left back is on the cards anymore no. Nothing on the Lucas injury. Adam could well go. No poroblem}

Hi eds, just wondering if my posts are getting confused with captain John boy's? I have only had a few posts printed in the last year, the rest seem to get lost. I am not in the know or anything, but neither is captain (judging by his posts,ha), and his seem to get on. I don't want to moan or anything, just wondering if he has been abusive in the past and I have been blocked due to some confusion?
Any help welcome, great site and keep up the good work

Johnboy (not captain John boy). {Ed052's Note - Sorry mate - I will keep an eye out for you}

I think the club is heading in the right direction in terms of transfer business. Owners understanding the business much better after thier initial years.
The Nuri Sahin loan move was good business. Got the right message across to all doubters after the Martinez,Siggurdsson,etc saga that liverpool were not competitive in transfers. Kudos to Ian Arye, Brendan Rodgers and entire LFC team behind transfers. Expect a few more signings and offloading some deadwood...one of the better summer windows in years.
PKM

What Martinez and Sigurdsson saga? - we never bid for either of them.
Please define deadwood?

John B

The only reason we got sahin was because arsenal pulled out of the deal otherwise he would of gone to arsenal.

Are you people for real, you actually want Liverpool to sign walcott? Why? Sure he has pace but he hasn't got a final ball and doesn't score enough goals! Mark my words that you lot will be saying if he signs, in a years time, that He is just another bad english signing by the club

Andy kirk
Chorley

8 goals and 11 assists in the league last year from RW puts paid to why we want and need him. He's quality, English, young and has only one year left on his contract. We can do with an additional 19 goals coming from midfield. I would be surprised if our entire midfield contributed last season as much as he did.

On another note, go to his Wikipedia and you'll see that he has signed for us for £15mill.
....................................

Some people online have no lives haha why go and edit his wiki like? Little to be at.

Ojay

The last two seasons combined he's scored 24 goals and has 22 assists!!! And thats from playing on the wing.
I think he'd be superb for Liverpool!

Eds.

This is not transfer related and puts the whole transfer window into perspective.
I'm living in Cork and on Monday evening a 14 year old lad named Graham O'Connell became ill after a game of football with his friends and passed away.
Graham was due to fly to Liverpool to attend the Arsenal game on Sunday and was a Liverpool Fanatic.
His friends have started a campaign to try and get his name on the scoreboard tomorrow night and I would just like to ask all on here if your at either game over the next few days please hold Graham and his family in your thoughts.RIP.
Alan.

Just want to pass on my best to his family. Yes we are all looking forward to nes player and the game on sunday but stories like that really bring u back down to earth.

I'm surprised quite a few people are hating on Walcott I really do think we can get the best out of him.. Also why do people start going who's this player when they blatently made a mistake? I read people going who's that player of they say ferrard or something.. It's not funny at all

He had ten goals and eleven assists last season plus he has some serious pace.. I don't know why are we hating him. He will be a brilliant addition to the squad. And i believe Rogers man management mught bring the best out of him

Musicnation

I agree there are good parts to his game.We lack real pace and in honesty Arsene must take some of the blame as he took took him as a youngster and never improved those faults.The fact is he can improve as he is only 23 would make this a good signing .

If we get him Dempsey and one other then we have an excellent squad which should make injuries and loss of form easier to deal with.

I don't understand ?

Affelay, Walcott, Dempsey and we'd be really in business!

GET Walcott! Ok he has faults but pace alone makes the fee reasonable. It causes problems, defenders on heels

29 Aug 2012 10:28:40
Any truth behind Man City making a bid for Sinclair but not really wanting him, This then opens the door for LFC to bid for him and Williams, Recon the Agger deal to City was done a while back. Stranger things have happened regarding the transfer window being ready to slam shut.
Just hope we can get someone in who can score the goals as this is our only real weak point i feel.

Is Coates really ready for week in and week out premier football??, I believe the more he plays the better he will get...Then i feel he will be awesome for us.
Bobby.

Just wanted to see what everyone thing about downing
Playing at full back...?
Rickblfc....

Actually not a bad idea, however I am not really familar with his overall defensive reading of the game, but I have to damit downing at lb johnson at rb is a real attacking threat when bringing the ball out

Andy H

I think it could be a master stroke by BR. He would make a good wing back. Pressure would be off him to score every game. Of course, he would have to improve his defence.

Fans and opinions are great for a discussion over a pint, but we are all talking about new strikers, wingers, left backs and we haven't addressed our biggest weakness - Pepe Reina, can anyone tell me if has ever kept us in game in the last 3 years when we have struggled - and when was the last time you were in the pub having one of these discussions and said - wow Reina had a good game today.
I can't, all you ever hear is - Reina flapped at that one, oh no beaten at the near post again, why didn't he get to that.
I know it was Skrtels mistake on Sunday, but to be honest he shouldn't have been given the ball if Reina was aware of how isolated he was.

John B {Ed023's Note - I question Reina for the first goal}

Rodgers will keep eina as hes v good with the ball at his feet
5gold stars

Reina's kicking and sweeping ability can make up for it some times but tbh it's getting ridiculous how many mistakes he's making and also believe he is one of the most popular people in the dressing room not sure if managers consider that but it could disturb some players? :/

Totally at fault for first goal - flapping about as always - didn't seem to be a shout from him either, if you also notice if he misses something he's never very quick to recover as if he doesn't care.

John B

There is no one we can buy that will be better than Reina.

We need a decent back-up keeper, give him some competition. He's far too complacent IMO and needs a kick-up the backside!

Gillinho

Who can we get that is better than him then? Neuer? Casillas? Buffon? There is no one available.

Just wondering why we are looking at wide players and also getting rid of Carroll, surely Carroll would thrive of the crosses from these people. Doesnt make sense to me, any help ed?
Huddz red {Ed023's Note - Rodgers was a front 3 that can rotate. For example on Sunday. Sterling - Suarez - Borini was the front 3 but during the game Suarez would drift out to the left urging Sterling to go central and he would do the same with Borini. Once the players get used to this system you will see them rotate more often. It will give defenders a headache.}

29 Aug 2012 11:14:57
Walcott wants to play up front. Not a chance of that happening at city, they're just looking for a winger to replace Johnson. In football terms we can offer Walcott what he wants, assuming he wants more than just money.

He would not play as much at City. He'd be making more cash, but his career will go backwards. These players need to learn from Adam Johnson!

29 Aug 2012 11:13:41
Carroll is not wanted by Rodgers, Downing is not wanted by Rodgers, Adam is not wanted by Rodgers, Henderson is not wanted by Rodgers and now it seems Enrique is not wanted by Rodgers. Kenny bought all these players and ruined us just like he did at Newcastle when he was manager. Agree?
Mav the Red.

You signed Mav the Red - but you haven't elaborated which Red team you support, you are obviously a very good friend of BR if you KNOW all his dislikes, because I haven't read anything attributed ti him that he dislikes the players you have mentioned.

John B

Enrique is still wanted! And BR even said that downing is going to be used as LB cover for Enrique!
Redmanluka

No.

- Something Red -

Kenny did make some bad buys. Best to get rid of the lot including Enrique and let Rodgers put his own stamp on the team.

Have some fecking respect.

JRG

Think your'e wrong about Downing, the puzzling one is Enrique? He had a solid first season, has'nt been linked with a move away and he would fit the system, good on the ball, attacking ect! But you get the impression their's tension there, both now and at the end of last season when KD stopped playing him. Their arn't that many good left backs around and we've got one under contract, I hope whatever the issue is everyone works together to solve it! GED

Kenny Dalglish bought what he thought were very good players, Comolli did as well. We didn't get to the final of two cups with crap players, that would be very oversightful of you. Or even beat Man City over two games, and United and Chelsea, who conquered Europe last Season. Crap players couldn't do that.

We played some very good football last year but Carroll just wasn't up to scratch until the tail end of the season and everyone was pretty poor for goals, we hit the bar 38 times in all competition, we were very unfortunate which is what happens when the doom and gloom sets in.

Football is unforgiving so two cup finals and qualification into Uefa with rubbish players just doesn't make sense. It was a transitional season, we made big mistakes and moved forward. Kenny took us from a club in turmoil and turned us into a club in need of direction.

Enter Rodgers, with a new style and new ethos of football for a new era. Kenny saved us from the Hell of Hodgson, the torment of Torres and took us to two cup finals and beat some of the top teams in the league along the way, Kenny put that expectation of turning up to a match and expecting to win, which Hodgson all but killed off

I just wanted to say it's great that Jay Spearing has options for where he wants to move too. He's obviously not up to the standard required for LFC, but I appreciate the heart and commitment to the cause.

hi eds hows you today. great job as per usual. now this isnt a rumor from myself as we all no that the theo walcott saga is well documented. now this is my thoughts on this. now iv looked on a few sites. most fans claim city are ahead off us in a race to sign the player but why do i have a diffrent theory on this? now we can match arsenals wage for the player if not match it then we can add 10% onto it im sure. walcott dont want more money i think his just had enough and i feel van persie is the main reason why the player wants out as well as other big players that wenger hasnt been able to hold on too. also if walcott goes to city how much playing time would he get? i think this is the biggest facter due to the world cup in 2 years time. walcott wont get a look in if his on the bench week in week out. so im standing by the fact he wants first team football and his had enough of arsenal and his an lfc fan, so im going with walcott to lfc within the next few days. regards jamie {Ed052's Note - All of that is pretty much spot on mate}

Makes perfect sense.

Hes happy to stay at arsenal but wants 100k per week or pretty close to it.can liverpool afford wages that high while trying hard to bring the club back into the black by getting rid of the big earners

Joe coles wages out, walcott in, simples.

Maybe a possibility as BR already stated his idea of Downing playing at leftback

Get rid of both these players if they are not happy. Enrique started off his Liverpool career well but faded towards the end of the season.

If we were to sign Dempsey and Sturridge/Walcott by the Deadline I would be extremely confident of a top 4 finish, here's why:
1) Despite Reinas recent form, we still have one of the leagues top 4 goalkeepers, if not the best when he's on form.
2) We have one the leagues top 4 back 4's; Enrique is at least one of the leagues top 6 LB's whilst Johnson is one of the the top 4 RB's. And bar City and United we have the best CB pairing in Agger and Skrtel.
3) Apart from Man City we probably have the strongest midfield in the league what with Gerrard, Sahin, Lucas, Allen etc, it is far stronger than that of Arsenals, Tottenhams or even Uniteds.
4) Suarez is one of the leagues top attackers, but at the moment our attack lacks something. United have RVP and Rooney, Chelsea have Torres and Hazard etc and City have Aguero, Tevez, Balotelli. If we were to sign Dempsey and Sturridge/Walcott, our attack would be far supior to that of Spurs or Arsenal, and the last pieces of our puzzle will finally be put into place. Oh and plus we have one of the leagues top 4 managers.
Irishdom15
agree? disagree?

Ha ha!
I knew I'd get some entertainment if I came on here. Top 8 is a possibility, at least 20 points off UCL! (this really isn't going to be your year - again)

DodgyBanter

I agreed up to the point where you said our attack would be superior to Spurs/Arsenal and I'd add in Newcastle. To be better than them we need better players than them and the mentioned players are either worse (Sturridge) or on a par with them. We need someone better I'd we are to Finnish top 4.

Yes our attack would be far supior to Spurs and Arsenal; it already is better than Tottenhams (I mean who would you rather have Suarez and Borini or Defoe and Adebayor?) and Giroud and Podolski are not on the same level as Suarez, and they also lost a player that is perhaps even better than Suarez in RVP.

if the stories going around that where interested in signing walcott for between 12-15million are true,where is the money coming from for him,like we dont seem to have the money to sign another striker r goal scorer like dempsey,which is what we are crying out for if we are to push on this year and challenge for top 4 spot,not a winger who"s end product is not there in my opinion,we have enough widemen now r players who can play wide,its a forward/goalscorer we need to get,and not b wasting what little money we have on walcott.get dempsey r someone else that bang in 20plus goals for us and get us champs lge this year.ray

First off, we haven't actually bid for Walcott.

If we do, then maybe we do have the money, but the manager and owners don't think there's a worthwhile 'natural' striker who's available and wants to join, and don't want to spunk a load of money on whatever flavour of the month is suggested here (Rondon, Huntelaar, Rhodes etc.)

Now personally, I wouldn't consider £12 - 15m on Theo and £75k+ a week the smartest thing to do with my money either, but that's just me.

mancini has stated after losing out on Sinclair he will not been beaten to the signiture of theo and will blow anyone out of the water who tries to rival them, so we have no chance folks i'm afraid. it would be nice to think theo would reject them and come to us being a fan but the fact is that he's turned down 75k makes believe he is after a big pay day so good luck on the city bench theo and well done on handing your england place in the squad to somebody else

be a shame think he would be a cracking striker {Ed052's Note - Where does he say this?}

There is actually no proof that city are even in for Walcott.

Why would he say that coz arsenal and walcotts agent would just hike the prices up to a silly amount.

Surely if Walcott has a brain he will realise he wont get much game time a city.

Interesting, since the Sinclair deal broke down due to money demands. But now they're prepared to "blow everyone out of the water" for Theo i.e. costing them even more than Sinclair would have! They're a savvy lot those Mancs! Very eBay-esk approach :-/

29 Aug 2012 10:48:52
Where does everyone think that Dempsey would play if signed for us? I can't get my head around it as I see him as more of an attacking midfielder but not sure on his tackling attributes to play the box to box role of our three centre midfielders. Equally, you wouldn't play him as an inside forward as he doesn't have enough pace. Baffled, lol

pieboy1812

In the middle of the front 3 with pace either side of him.

Think more like Brendan. The front three and the attacking mid continually swap around between themselves during a match. If that wasn't confusing enough, the flank players - full back, flamk mid, flank forward - will also swap amongst themselves. As an example, the current talk is Downing as a full back. Under Brndan's philosophy he will during a match swap with a midfilder and swaop with one of the fron three whilst all of them are also swapping. All of this is orchestrated by a 'hub player' - in our case Allen. Bit like a cartwheel with im in the middle and the spokes moving round. Main requirement is for players to be technically very good and also intelligent.

Sounds more like the hokey-cokey than tika-taka

Hooray - at last someone who actually gets BR's philosophy. It's very clear that he wants to get close to the Dutch "total football" model in the 70s (they never plaed with a point striker) so well adapted by Barcelona. That's why he is not keen on big Andy who is very much a point striker.

BR wants forward thinking mobile plays with an eye for a pass and an eye for a goal with most of the width coming from the full backs. A lot on this site are mired in 4-4-2. I doubt we'll see that under BR and if Carroll stays he'd better adapt his game quickly or get used to having to come off the bench if the team's footballing style isn't paying off.

Is Carroll definately for sale or is Rodgers trying to get the fans on his side? I have been watching this site for a year now and i have never seen so many fans go from hating someone to loving someone in the such a short space of time. The boy is class and he's not worth £35M more like £18 but if he stays with us for 10 years he would be worth £35M as it would save us buying a new striker every year. He is surely now loved by the fans and where 5% believed his ability. i now think because of the speculation about him leaving about 70% of fans want him to stay. Just a thought.

Ernie

He certainly won't get the majority of fans on his side by selling Carroll - I get the impression from fellow fans that they want to keep him because of his age, and what he is very capable of doing, scoring goals and giving opposing defences problems they don't know how to deal with - given the chance.

John B

I won't matter a toss who he sells if the team plays well, mate.

- Something Red -

Carroll should go , he had his chance same as the others kenny put his faith in them if they let him down then they let us down move on i say . red mick tag

Who should I trust more in terms of his eye for a player? Brenden Rogers who has spent the last 20 years coaching and learning his trade all over Europe and who wants Liverpool to play a dynamic attacking style? Or big John who necks a few pints in the Sandon before sitting in the Kop and who likes Carroll because he's good in the air? Thisnk I'll stick with BR

What do we reckon, majority of our dealings done sooner or left till the final hours? As long as they improve the squad i dont mind but do others think? Opinions?

Red Moon {Ed052's Note - Deals will be done ASAP}

I think last summer showed us that doing dealings at the last minute can have financially disastrous effects, however it is also worth noting that there have been some great signings at great prices at the last minute. I think it is simply a case of the manager and board being shrewd, and not panicking into buying simply for the case of it. I hope we get Dempsey as we've lost our ferocious character in Bellamy, so having an aggressive forward would be beneficial at flustering opponents. I also hope there's another signing in the attacking mould, however I'd much rather it be someone none of us were expecting than a rather hefty sum paid for a player we may not really benefit from - the likes of Assaidi have shown Rodgers is adept at bringing in players under the radar to suit his style. It should be interesting either way! Here's to a cracking season.

29 Aug 2012 09:58:22
So, walcott/Dempsey/affellay to be brought in soonish
Adam, spearing, Carroll, doni to be sold
Downing becomes a left back
Deadline day striker brought in

If that happens I believe one of the best transfer windows for LFC.

YNWA {Ed019's Note -

Be a rubbish window if we sell Carroll. Made up with our signings, but why do an Arsenal and make our rivals stronger.

John B

If that happens I would actually be so happy!

There is a race for Theo Walcotts Signature between Liverpool And Man City Walcott is a Liverpool fan which Is good for Liverpool fans but Man City could Persuade him with money

How much money do players actually need? He should do what's best for his career, which would be a move to Liverpool.

Couldnt of put it better myself!
Walcott and all players should follow there heart when thinking of moving plus we have a good chance of finishing above arsenal this year.
stuta1

Maybe Man City are just trying to scare Swansea into a deal for Sinclair.

dmedly

Well, sometimes we all got to think for our own families and how to feed them.

Read an interview on Bassong, who said that fans don't see the stress and pressure on their families and kids i.e. transfer uncertainty, last miniute relocation, staying apart etc.

Sell cole and offer theo the 90k a week hes on {Ed052's Note - Theo is on £60 a week}

Who ever gets him i feel sorry for! my mates a gooner and even they claim lennon is a much better player than theo

£60 a week ed? I earn more than that and I thought all footballers these days were overpaid ;-) {Ed052's Note - haha}

Ed I think you mean 60k if he's on £60 know wonder he wants an increase. {Ed052's Note - yes mate. I missed out a letter and the grief I get (not from you) but come on}

As a British soldier I would gladly swap the stress he's put on his family with the stress and carp I've put my family through he can even keep his wages.

Manchester City have bid for Swansea's Sinclair to open the door for LFC but both Sinclair and Williams will sign for liverpool on deadline day with Agger unfortunately signing for City.

Red Clint

Would love it if we could get walcott and sinclair

Williams is a poor replacement...

29 Aug 2012 09:48:22
Just wondering what all those fans who wanted Bielsa to come in are thinking now? Maybe a European manager isn't always the best way forward; maybe that mentality is just football snobbery.

Maybe they just didn't want an English manager?
Anyway it doesn't matter where there from, a good manager is a good manager and a bad one is a bad one.
Lets see how this one turns out.

Brendan aint English either
robbie

Actually I do still like Bielsa. Just as much for the comedy value as anything else!

Theo Wallcott, come on seriously man? The guy has no technical ability whatsoever. We will be linked with the workhorse James Milner next. Everything in the team is looking good apart from Suarez. He needs to slow down and stop acting like he has had red bull on his cornflakes. His chance/conversion ratio is very poor. Get rid of the Prince Carroll and fund the move for a proper finisher Bent, Defoe etc Suarez, Borini on either wing and a proper front man central. Long live King Dalglish.

Much as we all love Daglish the player, you have to move on dude. He is gone.

As KK said, nobody is bigger than the club. Not even him

You're complaining that Theo Walcott has no technical ability, yet you want the club to sign Darren Bent.. Are you for real?!

People still mistake Theo for the player he was a few years ago. He has vastly improved his decision making, and you really can't argue with his goals/assists for the last couple of seasons..

Stone YNWA.

He never said he wanted daglish back, just long live the king. whats wrong with that?

napoleon

Get over Bent, get over Defoe and get over Dalglish!! None of them would improve our squad....

Cub

Makes me laugh that you lambast Walcott who I think has matured/maturing into a terrific player and who I think would be even better at Liverpool playing on the right side of a front three that he's perfect for and then say get Bent and Defoe lol.
Fact is we could do with Walcott AND a striker for down the middle to come in but not Bent or Defoe.

When played as out and out stirker for england , Walcott scored a hat trick, plus Thierry Henry was a winger before Wenger changed him , maybe Brendan can do the same and turn him into a jet set striker.

Bent and Defoe? you really think these are the great finishers we need?
Why do you think they have not been snapped up before by richer clubs?
There not that good, spurs let Bent go and dont pick Defoe. They are not the type of player we need. Robbie Kean, Joe cole, when are people going to get away from these kind of signings.

Walcott would be immense for us, no doubt

gareth

Tbh Defoe is a very good striker and a great finisher, but all the years as Spurs' whipping boy has doomed his career.

Walcott will be played down the middle, as the main poacher/striker! FACT

STABILO

Face it mate, BR knows what he is doing in the transfer market, KING KENNY quite frankly did not have a clue.

Move on

MJ

As the season goes on, people will see that getting rid of the King was a clever forward thinking move- I grew up watching Kenny and like many fans adored him, but can see a better future under BR.
For one thing, KK would not have started Raheem Sterling against City.

hey eds have'nt been on in a week . what happened to the search bar its gone ?. and are we still interested in dempsey and walcott
much appreciated

I know he doesn't fit in with regards to age and resale value, but what would you think of Anelka coming back? He knows where the net is!

Byron

Haha!

That's a joke, right?

Stone YNWA.

Wages too high for what he'll offer. Potent striker but well over the hill at this stage.

Ojay

No not a joke...... Gary Mac was finished when we signed him? So was Larsson when the took him on loan. I know his wages are very high, but they reckon there is an issue with Drogba and him in China and they could both be released.

ANELKA crap atitude wasnt right for us 10yrs ago for that very reason.drogba would be great but.tommy Irish Red

Gary Mac & Larsson. Are you confused mate?

29 Aug 2012 09:35:47
surely if we are interested in wallcot would sinclair not be a better option l.younger cheaper better.wages would be less.id rather have sinclair. {Ed022's Note - Same to be honest.}

Walcott is only nine days older than Sinclair!!

Id much rather have Walcott. Hasn't got the attitude problems of Sinclair, better pace and less greedy.

Personally i think most of Eds opinions of Walcott and how good he would be for our team (not how good he is for arsenal) is wrong. Normally agree with 90% of what you all say but on this one i think Walcott would turn out to be legend for this great club

gareth

29 Aug 2012 09:34:08
Can everybody stop with the Falcao rumours, yes he may have said he wants to join but we don't want him!

Why not he is the best striker in the world maybe he would cost too much i suppose.

Where did he say he wants to join?

29 Aug 2012 09:33:52
Really don't want Walcott when it will effect raheem development would you like walcott EDS.

Scouse ben {Ed022's Note - Not really to be honest. Unless we can negotiate fees.}

Walcott is 100% different player to sterling and plays on the right, sterling plays on the left.

think of it like this walcott over downing on the right? yes please.

Raheem plays down the left, Theo plays down the right.
Sinclair would affect Sterling more.

29 Aug 2012 09:33:12
I would happily take 15-18m for carroll even though I believe given more opportunities he'd be good for us, 2-3m for spearing and 4-5m for adam. a loss on 2 of the players but potentially raises 21-26m to help fund Dempsey and another attacker/striker. who could this other player be? who knows but if he ends up being a good buy our squad will be a lot stronger than last year the wage bill would prob be down n a could really see a strong push for 4th place and another great cup run maybe even win a cup.

29 Aug 2012 09:32:02
Steven Gerrard has told Theo Walcott that Liverpool are in for him and BR would love to have him at Anfield.. Theo wants a freash start and a new challenge.
Sterling on the left, Walcott on the right.. We will scare defences to death!

How would anyone be in a position to report what Gerrard privately said to Walcott? You gotta love these ridiculous rumours! Roll on Friday deadline day, personally id be pleased with:
Dempsey 8 mil
Walcott 14 mil

Zeus Katz

14 mil - with 1 year on his contract !!

I'd be happy with 7 or 8 mil
Maz

I can, they were both round my house last night playing final fantasy 10. Keith Dellor would also have been there but I only have 3 controllers so I had to bump him.

29 Aug 2012 09:30:39
Surely it is just liverpool going for Walcott. The papers have just realised that man city have lost out on Sinclair so they stick their name in it for Walcott. What do u think eds
Lfckid {Ed022's Note - I cannot understand why City would be interested.}

Because they sold johnson and are missing out on scott

How is it hard to understand, they just sold
Adam Johnson, missed out on Sinclair. They need someone to do what Johnson was doing for them last season. That could easily be theo Walcott.

Its because they need more home grown talent isnt it?

29 Aug 2012 09:26:00
Ed, I'd just like to say that when i'm scrolling down the website sometimes I'll see a post from someone and they'll say something like. "What do you think Ed?" And at the end of the post it will say {Ed022's Note -
But sometimes the note doesn't say anything, like the example shown. I'm just wondering if it's just me or if it happens to everyone else.

Hi Eds

Rogers way very impressive. Very good move by wanting use Downing as a LWB, no need to spend on a LB also creating competition and pressure on Enrique to up his performance We could use funds for an attacking option. I think Rogers wants wing backs and not traditional LBs. Rogers to use a three CB formation at times

Thanks Eds

hi eds reds ssn have just said looks like walcott is leaving aresnal. lfc and mcfc are favourites to sign him. walcott offered 75,000 p/wk. would we be able to offer him more eds? maybe this is a big reason why the sinclair deal fell through at the blue mancs!! i think if we can get walcott , we would be very strong and looking very good for the season. thanks eds ! godbless96 steviep62. {Ed022's Note - The Sinclair deal fell through due to the fee. With this in mind, I can't see why city would go for someone who demands more wages and a higher fee. Lazy journalism or poor business from City.}

Just a thought.

Arsenal fans are up in arms over TW's poor crossing and "lack of football brain"...perhaps he shouldn't be playing as a winger in the first place. Wrong position. He could be more suitable as a central striker, which is what we need.

Ed022 so do you think lfc will go for walcott or maybe go for sinclair as you say a cheaper option? walcott has said hes a lfc fan, if so and an offer made, but less than hes asking for, would playing for the club hes supported since childhood, be a big enough pull!! also , demble , 15million buy out clause, could we challenge spurs? i think he would be better than walcott, dempsey , sinclair and sturridge! thanks again steviep62. {Ed022's Note - There is interest in both Walcott and Sinclair, so Borg deals are possible right now.}

Walcot has seen his best team mates leave, and he has not made himself a first team regular starter either.
With new faces brought in he may have decided to force a move by asking for money he knows they wont pay.
If he doesn't put in a transfer request how long does he have before he can walk on a free?
The promise of regular footaball may mean the same wages, especially if he keeps a loyalty bonus by not putting in a transfer request. Who knows, I find it all depressing to be honest, do we want a player who thinks £75k a week is not enough?

I didn't know the Borg played football!

I think Theo would be a great addition. To have him rotating a swapping around with Suarez and Borini would be pretty hard to handle. But most importantly he would provide something we really lack in our attack - genuine pace

Theo would provide a directness and pace only offered in our squad by Sterling, and even though Raheem stepped up vs Man City, it's a massive ask for a 17 year old to play a lot of games for us this season.

I can see our midfield thriving threading through balls in behind for Walcott to run onto

RedSG

Ed 022 re walcott sinclair hope your right , so yuo think a no to demble then? thanks for your time. steviep62. {Ed022's Note - I can't see Dembele moving to Liverpool no mate.}

29 Aug 2012 08:03:02
Ed I hope we don't sell AC on deadline day otherwise we will end up paying over the odds again for a mediocre striker just like we did with AC. If I was Rodgers I would make a statement of intent and refuse all bids for players that we could use or ask ridiculous prices like others do. So if Newcastle want AC on deadline day we shouldn't budge on 25m just to show them we can play hardball also

Midland red

But we want to sell more than they want to buy.

29 Aug 2012 07:47:47
Morning, it's my birthday today. Any chance Liverpool may deliver a present with a new signing today? Also do you think we will still pursue a left back as cover for Enrique or utilise downing in this position? Would have thought we have greater priorities in the last couple of days of the window.

Cheers

Hearing talk of theo Walcott coming for 12 million plus add on fees Thursday expected for medical rumour from my goner mates in finchley hope they are wrong wouldnt pay 5 million would rather have affeley on loan please let this rumour be wrong what do you think ed {Ed022's Note - There is interest in Walcott.}

Overrated! Most arsenal fans can't to see the back of him. Afellay would be better or and sinclair

I'd prefer Walcott to be honest, Affelay, although a good player, is injury prone and inconsistant. I really have a feeling that Walcott would do a terrific job for us.

I dont understand why any of you would want sinclair, i live in swansea and beleive me he is not good enough for lfc. drifts out of the game too often

29 Aug 2012 07:16:10
Eds any idea which LB we are looking at? We Have Enrique, with Johnson, Robinson and even Downing as cover, do we really need another LB? Surely there's other position that need attention (ST, RW, LW)? {Ed022's Note - Heskey.}

29 Aug 2012 09:06:31
Wat are the chances of Walcott cominged? Him bosini and suarez as the front three wouldbe amazing

How much would this Bosini cost?

Erik

Whos bosini, is he any good

29 Aug 2012 09:04:21
Why do we need to sell Caroll to sign a new striker? All other teams above us seem to be amassing 4 strikers. If a new striker is going to cost us £20-£30 m then i can understand but if we are going for Dempsey who is around £8m then surely we can offord that by selling a few like cole spearing adam etc. Are the owners that poor? MrT

29 Aug 2012 09:01:02
eds do you see morgan getting a few cameos this season as rodgers said he has a great attitude and will get his rewards through the season. Also was suso sent to ireland with the reserves during american tour due to bad attitude. and finally do you think sterling will hold a regular starting position on the left ?

Just go and buy Dempsey and walcott am sure both would like to join the club and now we can get them for a responsible price as Arsenal and Fulham prepared to sell, both between them will add much needed pace versatility and goals.

29 Aug 2012 08:39:56
Don't know what other Pool fans think, but would love to see Sinclair and Dempsey come in with Cole/Adam/Downing/Spearing going out, about 220k a week of wages saved.

Hope we keep Carroll, Sturridge isn't better than him and replacing Andy with him makes no sense, replace him with a better player, not an average player. Hope BR see's sense.

Or we're finally linked with a better striker, I've heard no realistic target I'd sell Andy for, a few we've no chance of getting. 17m for a 29 year old Huntilaar (spelling) would be terrible business IMHO

Defoe at the *right price* is the only one I'd be happy with.

29 Aug 2012 08:31:59
Rumours are AVB wants to sell Lennon could we get him if we miss out on Walcott?

29 Aug 2012 08:21:16
Who would you prefer LFC sign Scott Sinclair (believable) or Theo Walcott (unbelievable)

Ive put Walcott as I believe that he'd really do a job for us.
We already have Sterling and Assaidi who can play down the left of the front three, where Sinclair plays.
Walcott can play down the right of the three which I still feel needs a bit more strengthening. Its balance. Walcott could also play down the middle but I'd still get Walcott and Dempsey or Sturridge or even maybe Rhodes who can deploy the role down the middle and play Walcott on the right of the front three.
Think we be really strong up top then.

29 Aug 2012 08:19:54
Hi Eds,

great site - have become totally addicted to it! I am hearing more about the Huntelaar deal coming to fruition (sources are questionable though, not talking Independent et al.) depending on what happens to Andy Carroll. Supposedly Huntelaar has already agreed to the switch? I live in Germany and Schalke fans seem less than confident he will remain at the club. Personally I could really see him working well with Luis Suarez and he scored 29 goals for Schalke last season. I do feel that although we showed lots of promise vs City that we need another striker. I don´t agree with the AC bashing as I feel he´s got huge potential - just not for us though. Quality back up? Yes. But not someone to start games by any means. What do you think? Thanks in advance!
German LFC {Ed052's Note - I dont think he will come to Liverpool}

29 Aug 2012 08:12:19

If it's £16m also i want it. he is a class. and the man in the box.

29 Aug 2012 06:52:43
This ain't a rumour but just saying. If Huntelaar really has agreed to join Liverpool on the principle that they get rid of Andy carroll first then can't he go the other way on a loan deal? Or maybe a swap? The German wingers are some of the best out there and he'd have great success there and if they loan him he'll come back a whole new man. What do you think eds? {Ed022's Note - Huntelaar hasn't agreed to join us so it's irrelevant.}

I am a big fan of this site and appreciate the work the eds do but some of the people who post on here need a reality check or go and support someone else as they obviously arent liverpool fans.
Why somebody would call for the owners to go just because we cant compete with the likes of city and chelsea in the transfer market....er hello do these people not recall us being hours away from administration and the owners coming in and saving us.
And for those criticising borini! We have only played 2 games in the league give him a chance!

Totally agree. The Borini critiscism is a JOKE. The boy is only 21 for god's sake and has just got to his 4th club in 4 years. Let him settle. And I wouldn't mind but he's looked good as well, I can't wait to see him after he gets his first league goal.

Ojay

I havent really seen any critiscism of Borini, I think people have taken to him.

Ojay mate he is only 21 and won't be scoring 20/25 goals. If you think or expect 20/25 goals then you will be dissapointed mate

Brendan Rodgers

What some of those fans want is just goals galore. Suarez scored on debut and then everyone went mad and said he was gonna be a success. Its not just about the goals. Sure he missed a chance or two last time but his passing movements are really good and he's just arrived into the premier league for the first time[yes I know he was with swansea and Chelsea but didnt play for the former and was in the championship with the latter]. He'll get better as the league progresses. Andriy Shevchenko used to play in Italy but he had no success in England. Let him get into the english game. Even Maxi and Lucas weeren't so good in the beginning

Hi eds are you expecting a similar close of transfer window as regards to Liverpool when Torres and Caroll transfers went through? Also what is the chances out of 10 that Adam, Henderson, Spearing and Downing will be sold in this window? {Ed022's Note - Perhaps.}

Henderson and Downing won't be going anywhere.
Why would anyone want Henderson to go anyway?!

29 Aug 2012 04:43:27
Ive heard that they've made FIFA 13 so realistic that if you choose Howard Webb as your ref, Man U Always get a penalty in extra time. When you play normal formation with Chelsea, your formation changes to 9-0-1 and when you play single player career mode with Joey Barton you start in the jail..

Live-On-Pool

I've heard that each club has a trophy cabinet and Arsenal's is full............of cobwebs.

Hi Eds,

Why did we never go after Moussa Dembele?

I never saw this guy play but one match agains MU has convinced me that he is a very very good technically gifted player and Spurs have made a very good purchase for themself.

I am not sure why Fulham is allowing him to go so easily and cheap.

thanks and good job eds {Ed022's Note - Unfortunately most people have only watched highlights of him of the MU game and jumped on the bandwagon about how amazing he is. He is a good player, but extremely inconsistent and tends to be rather sloppy. I'll get abuse for this but a player can't be judged on one game, it's stupid.}

Agreed ed.

Zero

He was gr8 last season , hes a superb player, he was in his final yr of his contract also
5gold stars {Ed022's Note - Dempsey outclassed Dembele every single game last season, and that's proven with the statistics. However, because Dempsey doesn't have an exotic foreign name then no one is interested.}

I completely disagree. I remember last season he gave us a hell of a game. He may be inconsistent but at 25 and for not that much money (relatively) he is a good signing. Strong, fast, creative and a great strike. He'd be better on the right than Dempsey I think, long term.

Ojay {Ed022's Note - but my point is still valid. People judge him on individual games and then everyone seems him as world class. Give me a break. However, you put forward your argument well so fair enough.}

No i like dempsey , he was gr8 last season n hes a hard nut n he would bully dfences n score goals. dembele (cudn car less if his name was jordan henderson )who i have posted about b4 in the past is very good tactically n technically, powerfull also. superb, stats dont win games , we had more shots on goal than anyone
5gold stars

Well said Ed! I can't help think that he's over-rated aswell. What you saw him do ok against Man U on highlights on Match of the Day?!
It makes me laugh that some people think that we should be in for every single player that ever signs for anyone!
We'd have a squad of about 340 by now and be bankrupt lol.

Ed022, I can see him being a great signing for Spurs tbh. Only time will tell but I really rate him highly, he has progressed well from AZ. Even then he was quality. I think you're wrong about this but I understand also where you're coming from. I just think when he's playing around better players, he will produce more. He can run the ball out of midfield with great power, that is what LFC need. Although, we both must agree on the fact that this window is going pretty well. I'd be delighted with Dempsey. Walcott would be a bonus at this stage as two weeks ago he was barely in contention for a transfer. I still think it may be a ploy by Arsenal to get him to sign the contract. A game of chicken. We shall see.

Ojay

29 Aug 2012 04:03:34
am i the only one who thinks Huntelaar isn't good enough??? I can see a deadline day signing coming out of left field, expect the unexpected.
Tiff {Ed022's Note - I personally think Huntelaar is complete gash. Not good enough at all.}

Why is that ed?

Zero {Ed022's Note - He's slow, lazy, easily marked and can only cut it in the slower leagues, which then makes him look better than he is.}

Not good enough? He's considered better than RVP back in Holland and you both think he's not good enough? I guess being top scorer of anything isn't enough these days... {Ed022's Note - Considered better than RVP in Holland? Are you an idiot? RVP is the picture boy of the whole Holland international set up and Huntelaar spends every game warming the bench. What does that tell you?}

Most of us have picked our starting 11 like this or close to this. I think BR wants downing to play at left back because Sahin or Lucas could cover the zone while he is forward. SLODGE

Sterling wont start as often as people think he will. He will start a few, come off the bench for a few and sometimes wont even be in the matchday squad. he is only 17 after all!

Ed's or Macca.

Simple question. Do you think we are going to sign any more players in this window?

Carl {Ed022's Note - Simple answer. UTFSF.}

The "UTFSF" has been turned off Ed!? {Ed052's Note - We are yes to the above question}

Eds or Macca
Following Maccas info, and if Carroll ends up going for an undisclosed fee, can we expect bids for dempsy and walcott with the money raised from Carroll? And thanks to Macca for the info
L25 {Ed022's Note - Very possibly yes.}

Just a thought, but wouldn't it be ace if we signed Walcott and him and Sahin started against Arsenal and both scored. would p*** the Gooners right off.
Cheers

WALCOTT scores lovely through ball from SAHIN

Ed's please can you clarify a comment by Macca. He said if Carroll goes it will be for an "undisclosed fee". Does that mean we will have trouble spending the money as it will be in installments or am I wrong? Any chance explaning the significance of this comment please? Thanks

Chris {Ed022's Note - It means that the fee won't be put in public domain.}

Is that so we will save face over the massive loss?

Or maybe because we don't want Fulham, and who ever else, to know what we have available to spend?

i dont see that the owners would not put up the money for dempsey. think of the shirt sales in the usa. i think it will not be that good in the last week of the tranfers. i still dont think we have a strong enough squad for this season. upfront we dont have enough goals in what we have got. lets hope we pull somthing off this week.

carroll, adam, cole will not be leaving this week. the only one that may go will be spearing and that maybe on loan yet as he dont want to leave.

Once again Liverpool FC do not get money for shirt sales. warrior do!

More sales mean good sponsorship when its up for negotiation again.so it does matter.tommy Irish Red

It is a fact (yes FACT) that Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has a release clause of 20m. Google it if you don't believe me. 20m in todays exchange rate is £15.9m pounds. Surely he's worth a punt for that Ed's? When he was with Suarez at Ajax them two were phenomenal. Surely if we sell Carroll that has to be the correc choice? IMO I think we will get 15/16m for Andy. I know about the age difference and how Andy came good and blah blah blah, Huntelaar is twice the player, its as simple as that. By the way, I also expect Adam and Spearing to go, and a winger (probably Dempsey possibly Affelay) to come in. This would represent and outstanding summer for us, when you compare the outs and ins.
Spearing/Aquilani-Allen
Adam-Sahin
Maxi-Assaidi
Kuyt-(winger)
Bellamy-Borini
Carroll-Huntelaar
For me every player who went out was replaced with a better one.
Pls post Eds.

sorry for the copy paste , but thought this was worth a look ,

I think this could be a good Idea given the system!

Thoughts eds ?

Liverpool's first-choice left-back is currently José Enrique, who Dalglish paid £5m for last August. But Rodgers believes Downing has the ability to play in the position. "I think he is good enough for that. Absolutely," he said. "Time will tell [whether he can do it consistently]. I don't like to just give up on players. I always look at different ways you can play them. Stewart has a future as an attacking player but I have had a good chat with him on the role and he is excited about it. That is the biggest thing.

"There is no point putting a player into a position he doesn't want to play. But when you speak to someone and tell them what the future could be, along with the qualities that he has, there is no doubt that in the modern game, he could play that role."

BRIXTONRED {Ed022's Note - Downing just wants to play.}

Hey ed's do you know when the draw for the League cup is? Thanks!

Also, wish people would shut up about huntelaar, Macca said owners are unsure about dmepsey because of his age, for 8m! why would we sign someone the same age for double that? makes no sense

spurs hav had a 15mil bid accepted for dembele wat a great player wish we Could sign him would be awesome,, eds any info on who our targets are now besides dempsey of course
Basy
Very different player to Modric though... I like him a lot!
Why the fook cant we? Kennys wasted millions i suppose
Dembele average player at best! We have no need for more midfielders! Lets just hope work is being done to secure a striker! I would be over the moon with dempsey n walcott n imo would be the icing on the cake to a fantastic transfer window! Eds i salute you!

Basy

Think he'll prove to be an average buy.

Have to agree with you Basy, my previous post this week waxed lyrical about the talents Dembele possesses. I believe he could play any position in the front 6,he is that good.

I like Walcott and he is a dangerous player when on form, but does he produce the goods consistently enough, I'm not sure?

Dempsey too, offers versatility with a better eye for goal and we certainly need to add those to our game.

If we sell Carrol and Adam, which appears to be desired by the manager, then this would pretty much raise the funds for Dempsey and Dembele/Walcott. £15m is a steal for Dembele, he'll be worth double that in a couple of years. Plus I'm sure his wage demands would be considerably lower than Walcott.

We know FSG have clamped down on spending and attempted to lower the wage bill. They also wish to recruit young, talented footballers with the potential to improve, thereby offering profitable re-sale options further down the line.

If anyone can identify a current, young, immensely talented player with proven Premiership experience who meets the criteria set by FSG more so than Moussa Dembele I'd be pleased th hear their suggestion.

Paul, Staffs.

Ed001 I have to ask, why are City actually trying to get Sinclair? It makes no sense to me, sure they needed to replace Johnson but surely they could have gone for someone who might improve their first team? To me it makes no sense and in my opinion he is no where near good enough for City.

KiwiRed

Johnson was never meant to be first team, he was always a sub, now that he is 25, he wants games, and he knows he wont get it at city because he will always be, a backup. backups are always important. and Mancini knows that AJ does not want to continue being a backup.

now sinclair? a younger backup who knows he will be backup. dont know what their plans are for the future for him though.

just my opinion.

Kaizer

Who cares what city do.

Guessing it's to maintain their English quota within the team

I think it could be with Having English players in the squad, adam Johnston leaves, and needs replacing with another english man? For age, potential and Roleforfillment, he could be ideal for them, lfcnatn

FFS LFC A se twitch time.....Goalscorer urgent,and maybe two more'Ins'required. Under 72 hours boys! Ed do the club work on several favoured options so something comes off? Cos we all know they've panicked in past

It is my understanding that there were several options attempted that failed prior to our 'panic' buy. Gomez and Llorente I think. Much work goes on behind closed doors that we may not hear about. While some of Kenny's signings were overpriced and/or havent worked out as expected, it is not a lack of endevour, maybe some poor execution. The owners appear to have learned some lessons from last year.

Eds I just read the Gareth Roberts article on The Anfield Wrap about FSG, the money they've spent, and the stadium. It got me thinking and I'm just wondering if there's any new info about the redevelopment of Anfield or a possible new stadium. I'm just curious to know where FSG seem to be leaning towards.

Thanks {Ed001's Note - they have always favoured redevelopment, it is just not as easy to do as would be expected. There are constantly evolving obstacles, which is why they revisited the idea of a new build and it still can not be fully ruled out. These could run on and on, it is ridiculous, but it is not FSG's fault, they want the stadium sorted.}

Good to hear that they want it sorted, I was getting a bit worried. Do you know if it'll be concluded by the end of the year? {Ed022's Note - No one can say, as Ed001 said obstacles keep arising.}

Are the main obstacles from The Council? As you'ld think they'd want sorting. God knows area needs the extra revenue {Ed052's Note - Yes an no. Things just keep cropping up}

Ok thank you very much Eds. Appreciate all your hard work, especially during this frantic transfer window filled time. I assume you lot are counting down the hours till it's over. {Ed052's Note - haha, sort of. I love the rush}

something tells me these Huntelaar rumours are not true. I believe he is rated by schalke at at least £35+ Million and LFC do not have that money available right now, even if we sold Carroll (max £20 Mil). Huntelaar would be an amazing buy but unrealistic to say the least...

Funny how he has a release clause of 17m but you think he will cost 35m+

They may rate him at 35m but for a player that doesnt want to play for the club and nearing the end of his contract they wont get any where near that. van persie would of been rated more than 35m but sold. for 25 to make sure they dont lose him for free

29 Aug 2012 00:15:49
I don't expect Carroll to leave.

I think he'll be given a season to prove himself. Rodgers can see talent in the lad and will rightly give him a chance.

When Carroll does his warm-up before coming on as a sub, there is a buzz amougst the fans, a sense of genuine expectation that when he comes on, he'll score. If the fans sense it, Rodgers will too. He sees Carroll as a valuable weapon (unplayerble at times) and will want to keep him at the club (for the time being at least).

If he sees him as unplayerble as you put it then how come he doesnt play except the last 10 minutes. if we get a good enough offer then hes gone

Is that you Andy?

He's unplayable for seven and a half minutes

FFS LFC A se twitch time.....Goalscorer urgent,and maybe two more'Ins'required. Under 72 hours boys! Ed do the club work on several favoured options so something comes off? Cos we all know they've panicked in past {Ed001's Note - normally a club will have a few options in mind and make enquiries about them all. Once they have a general idea of the likely price, they then usually start discussions with one chosen player. The other options could be totally out of the picture, or they can be kept in mind just in case, it all depends on cost.}

Just read some article about how Brendan Rodgers is trying to convert Downing into a left back / wing back and Downing said he's excited and looking forward to giving it a go!

BR just said he was impressed when he came on against Hearts a did a good job there but wants to see if he can be consistant in that position.

He has more of an attacking threat than enrique but will need to practice his tackling etc. If all goes well, Enrique will have competition and keep him on his toes.

This would also mean we wouldn't be in desperate need for a left back...

BR is a genious if he pulls that off.

Shak Attack

For reason left footer's get shifted about more then right pegger's. Always have always will.
Jonson {Ed001's Note - because they are usually more technically adept than a right footer.}

This could actually be a good move,however downing has to be more aggresive at defending in the air to pull it off,other than that i think he could make a great fullback

tom1975

I did ask once has Downing ever played at left-back, because at that time i thought he could move there and we wont have a problem with LB. but then the reply was not that positive..

19 Jun 2012 08:15:14
eds or anyone who knows, has Downing ever played left back?

Kaizer

the reply:

He should play left back more often

Left back in the bleedin dressing room.

The first thing Downing needs to do is grow a pair.. That's likely not happening so I'd prefer us to get rid sooner rather than later.

downing as left back?

28 Aug 2012 23:39:36
I'm interested in what people think of the news (in the guardian I think) that BR is thinking of having Stuart Downing as a left back. Do you think it is a good move, will he be a success in that position?

JitB JFT96
YNWA

I spoke about this last week after the 1st leg at Hearts, it looked like Colin Pascoe had a word in is ear. Its all about versatility with BR from what I can see,numerous players being able to cover and play in several positions all over the park. Slotting in when a certain position/zone is vacated. Downing for all his critics is also very good with both feet which is vital unlike Enrique whos very left footed, kinda reminds me of Riise in that sense. Jose tends to turn backwards alot when confronted on his weaker side. I think BR will bring out the best in Downing personally and he might actually be like a new signing if he can fulfill his potential, Simonpw

Honestly don't think it's a bad idea at all. He looked decent there the game against Hearts and in reality in this sort of a system the RB/LB play more as mids than defenders anyway (one of the reasons G. Johnson has looked pretty good thus far in this sort of a setup). Frankly I think it'd be easier to play the ball out of the back on the ground with Downing there rather than Enrique plus Downing is a better crosser.

People have been pushing to get Johnson as more of a midfielder for a while now and he sort of is. No reason why Downing couldn't be his opposite number if he's willing to work on tackling a bit.

All in all, I'd say it's worth a punt, particularly if Downing is actually interested/inclined to actually give it a go.

RDL

It could work actually.

I read a few posts here when it happened that Downing did well there...didn't know if people were joking or not but obviously he did alright at left back...it would explain why he is not one of the highly rumoured players to be sold by us...Rodgers has a plan for him

I agree with post about enrique being one-footed, I watched his keep up challenge and he did the all thing with his left foot.

Forget enrique.. but would downing be bette than kelly?

Kelly's a RB! {Ed052's Note - No, he's actually a CB, turned into a world class rb}

Dear eds, Is there any truth in what I'm hearing about Walcott possibly taking a wage cut to join his boyhood club. He is a decent player IMO but for 100K a week? No chance

He was offered 75K by the Gunners...I think we would offer similar {Ed001's Note - he is on 60k, asked for 100k, Arsenal offered 75k.}

Greedy son of a... wat has he done to deserve fookin 100k a week. this is why so many non football fans hate footballers. their crazy wsges.

I personally think that the names people are linking us with will be wrong and the new attacking player will be either an unknown or a big name never mentioned. Transfers are being conducted in great secrecy and I could see a shock, though I do expect three possible signings with two being identified on this site.
I would be happy with Dempsey and a player to challenge for LB, with Robinson playing cup competitions and cameos in PL.
Mainly I have faith in who BR has identified and if we get them we get them and if don't in this window and have to wait then so be it.
I don't see a future for Adam, Spearing, Cole and unfortunately Carroll.
All in all an exciting end to the transfer window I suspect.
McB
