Coutinho. Wow! This kid he is magic. We just need to see it week in week out.
Lalana. Just the game he needed for confidence. Great second goal.
Heno/Lucas in midfield very solid. I think it showed that without Gerrard the midfield, it was much better.
Emre Can. You just get the feeling he's going to huge at this club. Same with Markovich now i'v seen a proper glimpse of his talent.
Im not convinced that its going to smooth sailing from here on in, but i will give credit to BR for making changes to get the best out what he has. Shame it took him half a season and numerous mistakes to find what works.

Believable15 Unbelievable0

Great game by the boys. Couts had his best game in a red shirt. He was awesome in attack and tracked back with some crunching challenges. Lallana was just. Wow! He might not have been what we needed but GOD am I glad he is here. The FB`s ere solid in both phases while Hendo and Lucas were solid. The defence was very solid barring the 5 mins after we scored the second. All in all, great effort and we can build on this and hopefully, BR will not screw this up by trying to invent the wheel YET AGAIN.

Completely agree but to be fair I recon 99% percent of us on this site could see where he was going wrong straight away. He's worked it out basically too late so does that really deserve praise? We've got a good squad very capable of top 4 we can all work out what was going wrong so why did it take a manger paid thousands half a season

Great end to the season, loved watching that. There's still some problems them defensively and I'm still not sure they're being worked on but we were very good today!

Special mention to Emre Can for a composed, strong and all round very good performance from a player who's barely played this season. Coutinho, Lallana and Moreno also impressed!

Have a great new year guys thanks to everyone (eds and posters) who have made this site so enjoyable this year. We've had highs and lows and its been a bit of a funny year let's hope for an even better 2015 and let's get a positive momentum going into the next year!

Nice to see Lucas not having to give away fouls every 5 minutes because his partner is out of position. Swansea weren't at their best but Lucas and Henderson complimented each other unbelievably pressing, dropping, and allowing Hendo to make those runs down the right flank. Really good stuff in the center of the park. Let's hope it's true that the way you finish the year is the way live in the next! Walk on!

Emre Can had a great game, but people seem to forget he can play at CB because he has played there for the under 21 for germany, its not a new role when we bought him i read many time he is just as good at CB than def -mid, a lot of us were calling for him to be played and i'm gald he has been because for me he will do what sterling done and just get better with each game he brought a steadiness to our defence that we have been missing well done young man

Is it about time we gave credit to Bredndan Rodgers? I admit that I wanted him gone a long time ago the performances were abysmal, however the team and this new formation has got us playing really well, we should have got something from United when we first played it but we weren't clinical in front of goal.
Maybe it was forced on him due to the lucky injuries to glen Johnson, lovren and Balotelli but 5/2/2/1 or whatever people class it as really has us playing better.
I have never critisized any of the summer signings was and still am happy about them all, still optimistic about Balotelli as long as he wears our kit and doesn't disgrace us I will always cheer for him.
Same about lallana, can, markovic, Moreno, man quillo, lambert.
Obviously they would need time same as origi when he comes next year, perhaps he won't perform for ten games then the posts will read that why was he signed when we have borini/yesil/Sinclair, but he will perform for us too.
Really glad markovic, can and lallana are coming good, as well as current players. Could rant on for longer easily.
At least Brendan has the balls to drop Gerard and Allen, will anybody else dare to admit he got it right today and the past couple weeks it's been getting better.
Roll on Leicester

Believable6 Unbelievable2

Much better perfomences, love the feeling og actually having fun watching my team - but why give a man credit for doing nothing else than what a lot of people have been screaming for since september? Incredible that it took him so long to figure out that "death by football" where going to be our own death. And i am quite convinced that sooner or later he will go back to his failed ways. But please, prove me wrong Brendan!

Agree0 Disagree1

In our last 10 games we've won 4 against Stoke, Leicester, Burnley and Swansea, lost 4 against Newcastle, Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Man Utd, and drawn 2 against Sunderland and Arsenal. That means we took 14 points from a possible 30.

It's a bit early to get too excited, however our performances since the cup game vs Bournemouth have progressively improved (excluding the blip against Burnley in which we played awful but scraped the win).

I will at the very least go into the new year optimistic. I do think we now have a chance of clawing our way into the top 4 but it will take something special. Something like the return of a striker capable of scoring 12-15 goals in the second half of the season returning from injury maybe?

I wanted Rodgers sacked due to his inability to learn, and resistance to change. He was being far too stubborn but in recent weeks that has changed and if he continues to show this humility (essentially admitting he was wrong) then perhaps he can save his job. I don't want to see him fail but for me this is his last chance. If he goes back to his boring 4-3-3 "possession football" ever again, I will permanently give up on him.

I don't think anybody on here wanted him to fail. He was dragging us down though. If he can drag us back up into the top 4, I will forgive him. Sadly, I don't think the owners will unless he manages top 4 and a Capital one, FA and Europa Cup treble!

Agree4 Disagree0

Allen is injured and SG is past it, unfortunately. BR will get the credit at the end of the season depending on where we finish. He has spent the first half of the season being a stubborn and arrogant "person" as well as being a politician and an opportunist who takes responsibility for nothing YET wants to take the credit for everything. If he had just focused on the team and the players he HISELF bought, we would have not sleep-walked thru the first half of the season wondering what next.

Agree1 Disagree4

Redohio, I don't know what makes you think he takes responsibility for nothing but credit for everything. Also, people can make mistakes you know. important thing is to learn from it, which Rodgers has done.

a very good win tonight and an even better display by all the players except lucas, he was terrible the begining of the 2nd half that eventually led to their goal because it was his mistakes that got swanseas heads up, he is terrible and should be dropped and moved on in january, we were attacking and the ball went lucas who sent the ball back and then we were closed down so the ball went from us attacking to our goalie, he has had his shot its time for him to go, Couthino was my man of the match lallana came 2nd it was good to see using wing backs for the wing back role actually works, well as I've said it was a very good win and display, if we keep playing like this we will make the top 4, it could be the start of the same run as last season plus we have sturridge to come back, one last thing i hate to say but we looked a better, quicker side without stevie g, plus we never got bossed in midfield because all the players could do their natural jobs instead of covering for stevie and passing it to him instead of forward, i hope the rest will do him the world of good and he comes back into our next game like the player he used to be, if you take sentiment out of it then he would have to fight for his place to get back into the side,

well done to the lads for a very good win against a side who were high on confidence and did fancy there chances of getting something out of tonights game

Believable2 Unbelievable7

Lucas played really well.

Sakho and Skrtel were at fault for their goal. Sakho for losing Bony and then fouling him to win the header but having no control over where it went. Skrtel for getting caught under the cross, then ball watching as it fell to Sigurdsson rather than marking him or throwing himself in front of it.

Skrtel also got himself stupidly booked.

The only player I thought played particularly bad was Sterling. he knew it as well. That is why he punched somebody. He was frustrated and he knew he wasn't playing well. He should've had at least 2 goals.

Other than what you said about Lucas though, I thought the rest of your post was spot on.

Agree0 Disagree4

I agree w/ all you said except that you`re being harsh on Lucas, IMO. There was a collection of mistakes that led to their goal including Can not closing down Routledge for the cross which left Sakho scrambling towards Bony. Lucas did lose the ball and he along with Hendo where out of position for the firt cross already.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lucas is the reason we are fluid, he stays in position, protects the defense and doesn't dwell on the ball like gerrard looking to spray a 100 yard pass. He moves it on quickly and generally plays it's safe. Every player miss places a pass here and there.

29 Dec 2014 22:04:22
Quite happy with that performance. We were a bit scrappy for the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half, and Migs' pass completion rate was about 20%, but overall it was pretty decent, and the best we've played since the Spurs match.

It's good to see Moreno, Lallana and Markovic showing the ability they have in the last few weeks. You can spend big money on strikers that aren't the right fit, or Italian midfielders who just don't fancy it, but it's pretty rare to break the £20m barrier and sign a player with nothing to offer.

29 Dec 2014 22:00:28
Finally we play a balanced team. Emre Can is immense. Sakho although looking clumsy is very composed and by far our best cb. Skrtel was fine. didn't do much wrong tonight to be fair.
Mignolet still gives me the creeps though, his kicking is woeful! Desperately need a new keeper in January.
Thought that was our best performance by far this season. everyone played very well and albeit the odd mistake. in particular Henderson's attempt at a chest pass leading to their goal! Keep that to training please.
Hate to say it again but surely this shows how Gerrard out of the team allows us to play like this. much more energy.
Quality tonight.
More of the same please. Rodgers might be winning back some fans including myself if we keep playing like this. Onwards and upwards into 2015!

Believable4 Unbelievable1

29 Dec 2014 21:59:25
Nice little microcosm of why we sold Shelvey tonight. Stupid, pointless elbow on Can that may see retroactive punishment, never got to grips with Coutinho or Lallana, and didn't really pressurise Hendo or Lucas either (although I suppose that's not necessarily his fault, we don't know what instructions he got) and he got distracted having a laugh and joke with Lallana before his own goal.

He could become a very good player, but I suspect he's too much of an person to realise his potential.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

He is so inconsistent. He went from Swansea's man of the match against Hull, to being booked and subbed against Villa, to elbowing Can and scoring an own goal tonight.

It is so frustrating to watch because he could be brilliant. It's like he has one good game and then the praise goes to his head and he just rides on the crest of that wave until people start slating him again. He then kicks into action and plays well again only to repeat the same bloody cycle! Top teams can't afford to carry a player who only plays well once a month.

Agree2 Disagree1

Players like Shelvey CANNOT be trusted because they are erratic, unreliable and suceptible to the odd moment of madness like his two footed tackle vs Utd that got him sent off in 2012, he should have been sent off again for the elbow on Can which is why I was happy to see him go.

Agree1 Disagree1

29 Dec 2014 21:59:04
That was like watching us last season! If Sterling could shoot we would have won by 6 or 7. What a performance from Henderson, Coutinho and Lallana. For all Hendo's critics, he is our most creative player this season now for 6 assists in the Premier league (7 in all competitions).

What a great game of Football. Shelvey and Sterling should both have been sent off though but I'm glad they weren't as it would've put a stain on what was otherwise a great game of football. Mingolet was actually good. Commanded his area, stopped nearly every shot and communicated well with his defence (although his kicking was still woeful). Sakho and Skrtel were outshone by Emre Can; and he isn't even a centre back. Sakho, Sterling and Skrtel were probably the only down sides on todays performance. I thought everyone else was 'oustanding'.

Believable5 Unbelievable7

His kicking can be coached and if it can`t then the GK coach should be sacked. As for the game, Can shows calmness and confidence of a veteran CB beyond his yrs and the energy we played with is one that unfortunately, Allen and SG cannot thrive in hence, they will have to battle hard to come back into the side at least, Allen has to. I think Sakho was solid, handled Bony very well and made one mistake that nearly cost us a goal but still a sold perf and Sterling was decent and could have had a goal from the trademark counter attack that made us devastating last year, IMO.

Agree2 Disagree1

Thought sakho was good. Nightmare pass which almost caused a goal but a lot of our chances were from him taking it out of defense and picking the right pass into the middle. He also won the header against bony which led to their goal- he was a bit unlucky it fell to their player. Sterling made a nuisance of himself though it annoys me that his touch can still let him down.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Dec 2014 21:57:05
Much, much better than of late. Movement and skill. Can looked very good and Lallana unbelivable. Hendo looked much better in right place. No perfect but better. Now for same on NY Day.

Believable18 Unbelievable1

I agree it was a very good game today - almost as good as against Spurs. not only the result but the performance and fun to watch. I think Lallana was sensational today, very encouraging. Cotinho was also good. In general I think our midfield is so much better than what it was earlier this season both going forward and defensively. We should still be less wastefull and more accurate and clinical in the last third (we will not get presents like the second and fourth goal every game) and defensively, although better - still far from perfect. I was less impressed of Can (wasn't he a bit at fault for their goal?).

Agree1 Disagree6

30 Dec 2014 00:24:14
I would not blame Can for their goal. Ok he misjudged the original ball into the box but that's not what the problem was. The problem was the same problem we have had all season and last season too. People not tracking runners (in this case siggurdson) and skrtel wasn't close enough to his man and didn't attack the ball (gomis or bony, I can't remember).

That's how I saw it anyway. A catalogue of erros really I supose.

Agree3 Disagree0

Yea a little rough on him playing his first full game in so long but he was good otherwise. You have to look at the lack of communication on that goal. Skrtel tells Hendo to pick up Bony as they're both looking at Sigurrdson. But Hendo was already going toward Sig and Skrtel ended up doing neither. That should have been sorted while the ball was being switched to Routlidge. Apparently you spread one CB to the flank switch it to spread the other one out isolate Skrtel and that's how you beat 3 at the back. Lucas and Hendo kept the gates shut otherwise though.

Agree1 Disagree0

A calamity of errors caused the goal, IMO.

So people laughed when I said 9 points from these next 3 games . So far so good

We need to press high and we will be fine

Ps Sterling what where you thinking hope he escapes a ban

Believable14 Unbelievable1

Let's hope you're right mate.

Regarding Sterling, If he receives a retrospective ban, so should Shelvey for smashing Can in the face with his forearm in what was blatantly an intentional swipe (very similar to the incident Markovic got a red card for actually).

Sterling's was definitely worse though and to be honest, we can't complain if he is banned. It was just frustration because h knew how bad he was playing. He must've had 4 or 5 shots, conceded possession nearly every time he tried to hold up or lay off the ball and just generally offered nothing.

Credit where it is due he did make an excellent run to pull the defenders out of position for Lallana's second but aside from that he just did nothing all game and he knew it. At least it shows how dedicated he is to playing well as he was clearly annoyed at his performance. Next time, he needs to channel that anger into his game, not punch somebody in the face over a linesman's shoulder!

Agree4 Disagree2

29 Dec 2014 21:55:57
Coutinho should be banned for footballing pornogrphy. Irresistible stuff

Believable15 Unbelievable0

Yeah good performance from couts tonite a goal would of made it perfect!

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, it looks like he's been working on his shooting a lot. He was always dragging shots wide, now he regularly tests the keeper. I think he''ll turn into a 10-15 goals a season player as he's so good at finding space in dangerous positions.

Agree3 Disagree0

29 Dec 2014 21:41:14
Liking the look of Can at CB tonight, could be a new position for him that, we need ball players in defence if we're going to play possession football. No doubt he'll now be dropped for the Leicester game :-(

Believable12 Unbelievable0

29 Dec 2014 22:10:57
He's a classy footballer, bit wasted there I think

Agree1 Disagree2

Only thing is he is almost to good for there be a waist of talent I would no i'm a center half

Agree0 Disagree2

Hopefully with Turtle banned for the game Can will get another, he was excellent tonight, crisp passing, confident on the ball, misjudged the header for their goal but that'll come with match time.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wrote here weeks ago about Can playing and earning rave reports for the German under 21 side, i suggested we play him in defense and now he is showing what a talented defender he is, in more than one position i may add! let's be thankful he signed for us and not Bayern Munich, and he is only 20

Agree1 Disagree0

Sakho was at fault for the goal we conceded but I thought he was excellent otherwise. Could he and can be our best pairing?

Agree3 Disagree2

{Ed008's Note - Sakho wasn't at fault for the goal conceded for me, Skrtel switched off and didn't stay with Sigurdsson in the box.

No chance with Skrtel suspended

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree it wasn't sakho a fault, but skertl should be free of blame too. Both Hendo and Lucas let him pass by them, between them, in the box.one of them should of picked him up. Sakho was immense in winning the header though.

Agree1 Disagree1

No he wasn`t. He was scrambling to stop Bony from getting to the ball and inadvertently headed the ball across goal. Wasn`t his fault. As for Can, he is too good to be playing CB. He might be great there BUT IMO, that is not his best position, IMO. He will be much better in a B2B position because of his pace, power, athleticism and passing ability.

Agree2 Disagree0

Sakho was unlucky the ball fell for siggi, he did well to win that header against bony.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - one thing I have noticed with Sakho, he has no clue how to direct a header, they just bounce off his head most of the time.}

29 Dec 2014 17:24:55
Hi all, hoping all had a great Xmas and now looking forward to tonight's game.

Could the EDs or anyone list a few realistic candidates for DOF position IF BR were to leave and FSG took this route.

Names, where they currently are, how possible/how interested and what achievements to warrant being ideal

Know it's a big ask, but I'd love to have more understanding of the posibilities if FSG were to appoint and appreciate what the leading candidates have done to get excited about, as for me it's the coaches/managers of teams like Ajax or Barca who get the glory when it could be a DOF which is the true key

Hoping for a win tonight but not sure if we are just delaying the inevitable.how we can spend so much over the summer and still have so many players playing out of position is beyond me.

I like the look of Lallanna, Coutinho and Sterling but we really need a lively striker to make the runs and make the space. That isn't that useless waste of money from italy. We also need a defensive coach and goalkeeping coach and stop leaking goals.

4 strikers on the bench (Markovic has played that role) not one on the pitch?

Hope the lineup plays 4-1-2-3 with Lucas the DM and Can Henderson CMs. This has been my preferred line up for some time. Quality DM and a right sided and left sided CM paring both with endless energy.

Optimistic for tonight. as always

DaveyBootle asked me if:
Would it be possible of you to highlight how optimistic most people were with our new signings at the start of the season, and how now they think that Brendan has spent poorly?
======================

Considering we finished second last season, there was no reason not to be optimistic, and considering the amount of spending, most posters were n't wrong to think this will be our season. Below few snippets :

"Fans need to appreciate our.attacking line up.
Sturridge, .Markovic, sterling, lallana, coutinho.
Power, flair, skill, vision and pace in abundance. Our attacking.depth IMO is superior to the.majority in the.PL. "

"So we go into the first fixture of the season like last year without Suarez but this time with Can, Lambert, Lovren, Sakho and two new fullbacks not forgetting markovic and allana available by the beginning of sept. Not too shabby."

"We've all been banging on about a replacement for Suarez, when Coutinho and Sterling have already stepped out of his shadow and elevated us to a whole new level."

"We are a young team on the rise. Chelsea are an old team in decline." -- I found this one hilarious

"For me Chelsea are clear favourites for 1st, Arsenal for 2nd and us, Manu, and City fighting for 3-4 though I am a bit more optimistic now that we will clinch one of these spots."
-- Which had the below reply:
"I completely disagree.
For me the title contenders will be City, Arsenal and Liverpool depending on who gets the luckiest with regards to injuries. I expect the top 3 to be Liverpool, City and Arsenal in any given order though. Chelsea will fight it out with United for 4th in my opinion"

"Liverpool to win the league this year simply by playing better football. We came very close last year and with the defense strengthened, we should not leak any many poor goals" -- If only

There were also few cautious posts, especially as the window closed and it was obvious we were n't replacing Suarez with someone of similar calibre. On the 23 Aug 2014 I posted:
"I am not convinced, I am most likely wrong but to me, we bought far too many similar players and we still lack the creativity that Suarez used to provide."
And for me this is the main factor why we failing to build on last season or even come close to match it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Brilliant

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to admit that I was completely wrong regarding Chelsea. Matic was the player I completely underestimated tbh. He is arguably the best player in the league.

I was one who criticised the transfers but didn't ever dream Rodgers would get the tactics so wrong. Our squad is easily good enough to be challenging for the title. Rodgers has failed to get the best out of it though. Out of the 11 players who beat City last season only 1 is missing from our squad (Suarez) and two are injured (Flanagan & Sturridge). I don't blame anyone for being wrongly optimistic because how were we supposed to know Rodgers would go brain dead?

Ed001

Do you have any idea what is happening with lovren mate? This guy was excellent at Southampton ( Though you could argue he played with a dm there) attracting interest from the likes of Barcelona.
Now he just looks lost.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he is just struggling with language, tactics and trying to build a partnership with his partner in defence. The language issue will come good over time, so that is not a long term problem. The tactics and partnership with Skrtel could be though.}

Edd001, if Rodgers leaves the end of the season, do you see skrtl staying with his contract soon ending?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - impossible to say, depends on who comes in and if they want to keep him. I would hope not though, he has caused problems in the past when other teams have shown interest in him, he isn't good enough either.}

How much do players struggle with language?

We have quite a few non native speaking players that have been in England for a while (Skrtel, Lucas, Enrique etc) so I assume they are fairly comfortable understanding and translating for other players.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - but Lovren is meant to be working with Moreno, neither speak the same language, so how do they communicate? It was a poor decision to buy a left sided centre back and a left back in one window. You have to integrate a partnership over time and not make major changes in one go.}

29 Dec 2014 16:10:06
A lot of the new hyped up managers seem to be getting found out across the European leagues this season. Philosophies come and go but if you want to have a long managerial career it seems you have to be able to change your tactics based on each match.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Exactly. Philosophy is just a big word that make clueless people look smart while we all know footie is a simple game that fundamentally does not include the input of philosophers like Socrates, Plato, Brendan Rodgers or Roberto Martinez.

Agree2 Disagree2

But you argue Wenger, Fergie and Mourinho all have philosophies on how they have their teams play, clubs run and type of players that fit that. Add Van Gasl and Pep to those who have have clear visions too.
Would have been happy with the sucess anyone of those brought their teams.

Agree4 Disagree1

And I would add Rafa to that list. If anyone ever thought about how to perfect a side for any particuular fixture it is him. Didn't always work out but at least he had a plan.

I wouldn't add wenger to that list he's as stubborn as Rodgers and that's why after all these years he can't get any further then 4th. Being a good manager is adapting your tactics it ain't rocket science

Footie is a game for Tacticians, not Philosophers.

Can fans answer mate?

1. Wrong player. Big name. Whoever thought he was going to score goals knows nothing about football
2. Biggest shock for me. He's been awful, I genuinely thought he'd be great. Eds is it true he fell out with Stevie early on? Maybe affected him I don't know but his positioning is absolutely embarrassing anyway, I actually thought the jump to Liverpool wouldn't affect him but I was well wrong
3. He's done nothing, he'll play better under another manager IMO,, as will Coutinho and Hendo. They don't seem to be playing as well as they should and Adam looks lost
4. I like Lazar. I go to most of the games and recently he's showing us what he's got. Way to early to judge him seen as he's only been in the league 5 minutes
5. Typical Rodgers signing. He's a treat because of his speed,, but he can't defend can he. Thrown into a diabolical defence infront of a pathetic goal keeper and can't get a run of games. It's harsh to judge him when BR is manager but I must admit I'm not one to bite my lip at the game

Agree2 Disagree4

Hard to judge defenders who are always so badly exposed by poor tactics and a weak midfield.

Only a fool would want to ship adam out.

Agree4 Disagree1

1. Didn't want Balotelli, and wouldn't mind seeing him gone as long as we don't lose too much money on him.
2. Lovren is quality and will eventually settle, give him time. He struggles to communicate with Moreno and Skrtl dropping to deep doesn't help him either.
3.Lallana is a great player, I don't know why he is on your list.
4. Markovic is fast and skillful but will need a lot of game time to settle.
5. Moreno is quality imo He will get better with time but needs to learn to speak English! His defensive mistakes can be coached out of him, he is still young.
6. Glen Johnson- SELL
7. Skrtl- SELL

Even with the Studge back I believe we need Balo out and a quality striker in. Studge picks up too many injuries and Sterling is not a striker. We are also in need a a goalkeeper. I think either one of these will be bought in Jan if we can get the deal done. The only outgoing players I can see in Jan are possibly Migs if we get a keeper in and a good offer, and Balo.

"Liverpool have made it an uncomfortable Christmas for Walter Sabatini and the board of AS Roma.

The Roma sports director knew the offers would arrive, but surely didn't anticipate the size of Liverpool's contract package tabled to Gianluca Scamacca and his family.

Just last week, Liverpool, which have been speaking with Scamacca's agents, the Paolillo family, for almost two months, tabled a deal worth £135,000-a-year to leave Italy when he turns 16 in January.

In contrast, Sabatini and Roma have communicated to the striker's camp that he will be due the club's standard €1, 450-a-month deal for first-year pros - and even that's an exception as the majority of 16 year-old's on the Giallorossi's books play as amateurs.

Liverpool's move is creating tension inside Roma, where there is now a push to rip up the wage structure below the first team squad. The Giallorossi can afford to pay their young pros more, but those against the move point to the 'too much too soon' argument now dominating youth development debates in England."

Any interest? He's highly-touted, but at 16, I can't imagine he's a first team option for anyone in the Premier League. Then again, I wouldn't have thought Sterling would be where he is at 19, so.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I dealt with this a couple of weeks ago. I am sure there has been interest but I suspect a move involving Liverpool is not on the cards for the kid right now.}

Eds are there any strikers out there, in your opinion, we could get in a similar price range and stage of carreer like sturridge was? Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I really don't understand the question. Similar age? Chelsea players? I have no idea what you are getting at. Is this a replacement for Sturridge you want? or do you want to sell Sterling to get someone else in?}

I think he means talented young strikers who are not getting the opportunity at a big club and therefore may come at a 'bargainl' price.

Joel Campbell (Arsenal), John Guidetti (Man City - on loan at Celtic), Raul Jiminez (Atletico Madrid), Jean Cristophe Bahebeck (PSG), Yasine Benzia (Lyon), Duvan Zapata (Napoli), Luis Muriel (Udinese) are all young strikers struggling in one way or another who have potential to step up in my opinion. I have no idea if any of them are viable options but I imagine we could get any of them for a relatively low fee.

Don't forget though we have our own Daniel Sturridge not getting a chance in Samed Yesil!

Hi ed01 appreciate your reply on those players yesterday. Could I also bother you with an opinion on the following as well as these have caught my eye too. Moussa cissokho ayoze Perez and Virgil van disk. Perez what I have seen of him yesterday and at old Trafford looks a real find

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - do you mean the Sissoko that plays for Newcastle? If so, he is ok, but not top class. He lacks the creativity to really move up from where he is, plus he wants Arsenal. His passing is not the best, he doesn't score enough, he doesn't work hard enough defensively to make up for his lack of goals. He is a poor man's Yaya Toure, well more a moderately well off man's Toure really. He just doesn't offer us anything we couldn't get from Can.

Perez is a talent, but he lacks a clinical finish and is still learning when to pass and when to shoot. Could be something special in a few years, but he is far from the finished product, which is really what Liverpool needs.

I am not in any way shape or form a fan of van Dijk. He just doesn't put in the effort. He strolls through games. If he wants to get himself a step up in class from the SPFL then he needs to show what he can do, instead of just about doing enough to see the game through. Reminds me a bit of Kenwyne Jones. You know he can do it but he just can't be bothered.}

Hi eds particularly ed01 if about. I posted recently about the fine job de boer has done at ajax considering year on year selling there best players and not investing back in squad and Ed002 suggested ajax were the equivalent of Man U in there prime with the odd challenge from arsenal and chelsea. I looked a little closer at his record and was very surprised to see that until de boers appointment they hadn't won the title for 6 seasons since koeman was in charge. A series of managers blind jol ten cate van basten all failed to win a league and suarez albeit a younger player despite all the goals never won the league. I looked at the current squad and it has been put together for 20 million with the majority coming from the academy . Players sold during his time are suarez Vermalen vertonghen van der veil staklenburg blind de Jong erikson and huntelaar. Just wondering your thoughts ed01 on the job he's done. I think it's stands up with most

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - the problem is that previous managers had been poor, hence why Shteeeve was able to win the Eredivisie with a very average team. De Boer needs to leave there to prove himself, as it is a weak league. He has done about the best he can domestically, but they haven't got an outstanding record in Europe, so it does leave question marks over him.

But there are no really outstanding available candidates, he is the only one that has any kind of track record of success and so has to be under consideration when we move on. They may have sold their best players, but so have their opponents, so it is not really a major indicator of his ability.}

Suarez did win the League in 2011 because he had played enuff games to earn a winner`s medal before the Pool move came thru. He was given the medal when he went back to Ajax to say a final farewell to their fans. As for De Boer, I think he is the best of a very small pool of managers available (Klopp will have his suitors, for sure). I will not b against him provided he fits the strategy and framework the owners are rebuilding because for me, a coach is only a small part of a well-run clubs framework.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed001 do you think he would be a success at Liverpool if he were to become Coach(not Manager as I've read you think we will go down the Dof route). Thanks

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I think he has the best chance of those available and interested. The most important thing is getting the right DoF though. That is the most important position of all. Get that right and it will be harder for a coach to fail than succeed, get it wrong and he has no chance at all.}

Absolutely Agree, Ed. THe DOF and coach have to be on the same page within the right framework. Get that done and we`ll be set.

Up until now I didn't understand what 'brendaning' meant. I do now and I bet Emre Can does also. What a supreme waste of young talent. I haven't posted for a while because I wanted to ease up on the Brendan bashing so I could have a decent Xmas but if what Ed's 002 say's is correct and that there are rumours of letting Can go on loan then this is the last straw for me. The kid has got supreme talent and could be a real gem only if given game time. How Gerrard and Allen above him is beyond me? At this rate all our quality youngsters will leave and we won't be able to attract young talent because they know they won't get a game. Get this buffoon out and get someone in who knows how to nurture talent.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I never said anything of the sort.}

I stand corrected ed's 002. But my point still stands if Rogers let's Can go out on loan in January he's a clueless bufoon as the player is badly needed in our team now not next season. Even Stevie Wonder can see that why can't Brendan?

Are we carrying too many passengers on this bus? By that I mean do we have too many players who don't contribute enough to the team? Have we seen the best of MIgnolet, Jones, Johnson, Enrique, Allen, Balotelli, Borini etc, or is there still more to come? Personally, I think it's the end of the road for some of these players. I can't see them improving and I'm pretty sure the youth could do as good a job if not better than some of these players.

Red Rum

Believable8 Unbelievable1

Some are decent squad players( Allen), some should go( Johnson) . Balotelli has played all of 15 games for us in a system which BR doesn't even know what he wants so I'm baffled as to how MB should. At worst he is a very good squad player ( actually think his best performances have been off the bench)

Agree0 Disagree0

As for Borini- he should be sold. I think he could be a decent squad player but BR barely puts him on the bench when we have no strikers- therefore if he isn't getting a sniff of the first team sell him for $8 mil and let BR blow that too!

Agree0 Disagree0

Too many very average players bought by the current management team, so yeah far to many passengers its time to stop the bus and get them off. !!

Agree2 Disagree0

For players like GJ, Jose, Jones, and I would include SG (defo no longer a starter for me) and Skrtl, they are past it and need to be sent packing. I would reserve my verdict on the rest because either they are playing in a system that doesn`t suit them (Allen and Balo), badly coached and grossly mismanaged (Mingo) and haven`t been given a chance (Borini). It doesn`t help either to have a manager who is openly biased and shows everyone who his faves are and plays them even tho we can all see they are crap.

Agree2 Disagree0

That's the thing with Balotelli, should we change a winning system to suit one player or should we move him on and buy a striker that suits the system?

Red Rum

Agree2 Disagree0

Even if you changed the system to suit balotelli, he'd still be a liability and still be below average.

Remember all that baggage people claimed he'd grown out of and wouldn't bring to Liverpool, that seemed to go out the window with the tweet.

I didn't come on the site for a long time last 12 months but it quite interesting to note how it has progressed. Firstly it is still the best site around for rumours and banter FACT! Comments from Ed002 have gotten even sharper ( was that possible ?), brilliant! I suppose the major change I've noticed is the big shift and assumption that Brendan is likely to be out at end of season. Now you may or may not remember that i am and always will be a huge supporter of Kenny, and i wasnt too keen on getting a manager in who wasnt a proven player or manager. Early on i was quite scathing about him if i remember! Common sense prevailed and i decided to give him a chance.
Im still doing that, as i believe he needs more time. We came second last year, and if he had a little more experience as a manager we could have nicked it, c'est la vie.
I certainly won't be calling for his head at the moment, lests get behind our manager and help him learn and develop, everyone deserves an opportunity, and Brendan has been given his. I like his mannerisms and humility at times, a touch of Paisleys nouse to go with his charm is all he needs.
Cmon lads let's get behind our great club and do what supporters do, ie support

Believable2 Unbelievable1

I am always behind my club regardless of who the manager is because managers are transcient employees hence, they come and go BUT the club remains. It is very hard to get behind a manager who has grossly ismanaged this club to the point of being nauscious. He continues to show his arrogance, disdain and complete lack of understandin of what HIS own team needs YET he blames everybody else for our troubles BUT wants to take the credit for the smallest of things. A manager must show leadership, accountability and responsibility BUT BR has none of these traits. He is an opportunist who would rather ruin the reputation of someone else in a bid to save his own (Balo`s and Mingo`s for starters). There is no accountability hence, players don`t look too bothered when we concede or don`t win. You think Mou would accept that at Chelsea? Didn`t think so. I want the manager to be humble, honest, ambitious, respectful of other anagers and clubs, be willing to learn and be less of a jackass in the media by saying he would wanna coach Barca one day which is stupid. BR needs to learn BUT LFC is not where you learn, it is where you become great after paying your dues. All in all, I will support my club till I`m dead and frankly, I don`t care who the manager was, is or wil be.

Spot on Tel. Far too much bandwagon jumping and rubbish written about Rodgers. For me Bradford's performance and result yesterday just goes to show how much we dug in to grind out a result on Friday. Let's get behind the team AND manager tonight.

Agree2 Disagree1

You mean Burnley, right?

Agree1 Disagree1

With all due respect and humilty Redohio, dare i say its you who appears to be showing arrogance and complete lack of understanding of the role of our manager. Our managers are not just employees, they are an integral part of our history, for better or for worse.
For you to say that you do not care who the manager was, is or will be i quite frankly find that astounding. Managers like Shankly, Paisley, Fagan, Dalglish, Rafa etc brought our wonderful club trophies and helped to make this club what it is. It is a unique role within the club and our success is directly linked to the key decisions they make on our behalf, week in week out.
I was never a Rigers lover, but he has at least tried his best as he learns like his forefathers before him. He deserves his chance, he is our manager and I for one will continue to support him now
Apologies for rant sir and i'm sure you are a wonderful supporter, but we all have a view. that's what makes us unique!

oops yep Burnley!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Tel, common sense and patience are in short supply amongst the 'live streaming' brigade on here.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tel, I respect your view. However, you seem to have ommited a part of my post. I am not arrogant and I do understand the role of a manager at any club. I want my manager to show accountability and leadership because he is the face of the club. He should show some steel and bear reponsibility for our failings and not pass the buck because I cannot stand when coaches do that. That`s all. Managers are integral to a club NONETHELESS, they are still employees and will always come and go. The names you mentioned left their marks at the club just like a great employees helped advance a company`s growth via his/her ideas and policies especially if the powers-that-be allowed that to happen. I will support a my club and will support the manager almost by default. Supporting a manager doesn`t mean I agree w/ everything he does or says. BR has lost credibility in my eyes not because of his mistakes, BUT for his complete lack of accountability and his uncanny knack of blaming everyone else for his own mistakes as well as an inability to learn from his mistakes. I HATE THAT! Apart from that, I respect your opinion.

P/S: Walton, including me in the "no patience" brigade shows how little you know about me. I have been a fan for 30 yrs and for over 2 decades out of these yrs, I have not seen LFC win the PL YET I am still here.

This is a message aimed specifically at Roy.
=============
Davey, thanks for your kind words, glad you found my posts informative. I 'll aim to do a similar post to highlight the optimism or lack off at the start of the season later on this evening.
Just to be clear(in response to some of the replies Davey got), my posts are not about showing fickleness or proving that people were wrong, and its not about a shame page; Its in response to those that want a change for the sake of it. Most in here want Simon replaced by anyone, to me, unless we are getting a world class keeper; I'd rather keep Simon and improve the coaching he is getting, he was a decent keeper at Sunderland and I am sure with little confidence he can be again.
Same with Rodgers (and I am not a fan and never been since June 2012, but again unless we get a Van Gaal or a Mourinho, what is the point in sacking him, getting a rookie and after 2 years of transition wasting lots of money we realise it was yet another failed experiment and we are back in the market looking for another manager.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Agree with the mignolaet point, it's one I've been making for the last few months to no avail.

On Rodgers however I feel there's a lot more to lose. We've already lost Martin Kelly, We look like we may lose Lucas, Suso, SG etc on pre contracts or sales. For each place we finish lower in the premier league we lose roughly £2.5 million in merit payment. If we ditch BR and promote Inglethorpe we may gain a few places.Alternatively, once this review has taken place, we could bring in a new manager who may improve our football and league position. As it stand as well we are currently still in 3 cups, I currently don't see us winning any with BR in charge. This season is a write off for me in terms of league. It's done. Typically the champs league 3rd and 4th get around 75 points.that means we need to average 2.5 points a game in the second half of the season.

Given all of this, if a temp can come in and improve our football, cup run, and chances of finishing higher. I'd take that gamble. I mean finishing 5th instead of 10th could mean an extra £10 million in prize funds alone.

Agree2 Disagree4

I can't see us finishing 10th.Bob and i can't see how putting Inglethorpe in charge would help. That would.be taking abig.risk imo.

Agree2 Disagree0

Inglethorpe was just an example. I've no idea who would be chosen as a stop gap. I would presumer he would take over as caretaker, he helped at tottenham when they parted company with managers

I chose 10th because that's where we currently are having played 1/2 the season, just on the basis of results repeating themselves in the second half of the season. It also helps highlight the financial difference a few finishing places could make.

Agree0 Disagree0

I started having doubts after the end of last season finished in such disappointing circumstances and Rodgers blew his chances.

His failure to replace Suarez effectively, failure to deal with the defensive frailty and lack of power in midfield are just some of the failures that Brendan has overseen and not dealt with.

As for Mignolet, he isn't a great shot stopper can that myth be just put to bed? As the goals he conceded away at Man City and Chelsea last year prove that, also take his starting position for Everton's equaliser at Anfield this year, had he been a good shot stopper his starting position would have been better and he would have gotten to the shot, the problems that he has I don't think can simply be coached out of him(like distribution, presence in the area, dealing with crosses, handling etc), however he is still a better keeper than Jones, which is about as good as I can say, however, I would rather we bought in a top notch coach to work with him until the end of the season than waste any more money on more substandard keepers.

The problem is, the players we're looking at are all worse than him.

Agree0 Disagree1

29 Dec 2014 10:49:48
Morning Ed's and Reds, Really hope we go all out for it tonight and show some determination and heart. Before yesterday's kick offs in other games, we were 9th, 8 teams above us, and only 1 of those teams picked up 3 points yesterday so if we really need to give it everything tonight and start closing the gap. Blind faith, optimism, whatever you want to call it, 4th place is still there if we turn it around now. We will concede because our defence is shocking at the moment and our keepers do not have any confidence at all, but we conceded enough last year, it's all about making our chances count. A win tonight will put us 5 points off 4th place with Sturridge to come back soon fingers crossed. I know he's not the answer to all of our prayers but he would certainly help in the goals for column of the table.

Good luck tonight boys.

If you were the owners and BR came to you and said I want to spend more millions that the club doesn't have what would you say. .

Point being that the club will not trust him with transfers any more.

All the talk of who he will bring in is nonsense

Expect a couple of youngsters the club want and have chosen not BR and maybe 3/4 out

The Liverpool way of transfers has been a disaster for years and the owners have finally realised this

Believable3 Unbelievable0

29 Dec 2014 12:25:37
It's the transfer commities responsibility to pick the most suitable targets for the positions in question, not just BR. He is apart of that process but it's not entirely his fault. Although, his track record in the transfer market even before the trasnfer committe was terrible. We just lack in every department when it comes to pulling off the right transfers.

Agree1 Disagree0

As the Eds have said, he ratifies the transfers and is a big part of the process hence, he is as much at fault as the rest of that shambolic commitee. He said, "No player will come in here that the manager doesn`t want". After Balo came, he then says Balo was NEVER his choice. Spoken like a true politician trying to have it all his way. Pathetic! Never heard of such incompetence in my life (as a footie follower for over 30 yrs) where a vote has to be taken for a player to be signed YET we wonder why we re so overloaded. Stupidity at its finest. BR will be sacked as well as that dreadful commitee in the summer and maybe we will learn from their mistakes or we are doomed to repeat them.

Agree0 Disagree1

29 Dec 2014 07:45:35
I'm reading loads of things about BR buying poorly and we should be looking to get yet more players in. Yes I agree there have been some questionning buys but I do believe that the players need to shoulder some responsibility too. I mean they're paid fortunes and let's face it, apart from Chelsea and Man City the PL is full of rich bang-average players now. If you can fluke a PL contract for a club you're not fussed about then you don't care. I know when I was in my 20s if i was on £50,000 a week football would be the last thing on my mind.
So with the new year approaching, another transfer window I hope FSG continue to look across the board and tell BR the purse strings are shut. You have what you wanted so work with it. Or use the youngsters. He's the manager, it's time to manage and look at his own backroom team. Sorry more of a rant than anything constructive

Believable7 Unbelievable0

I'm pretty certain that BR already knows that the purse strings are firmly shut. He should be well aware that right now, it's sell to buy

Agree2 Disagree1

Here`s what he would do if we gave him money to get players: He`ll buy the player, play him a few games then drop him for another one of his favs because he doesn`t trust him anymore just like he has done to a few of the signings already this season. Sound familiar? He no longer trusts the player that HE himself bought. He ain`t getting a dime. He has players in the squad and the academy. He should use them.
