Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

29 Feb 2016 21:18:14
Far from jumping on the slagging players off over penalties bandwagon but surely there's a chance of Henderson moving on in the summer. Just doesn't run games, goes missing far too often, rarely scores, the odd assist, can't remember any important tackles to speak off. Just doesn't inspire confidence in the team whatsoever.

Would love us to have some real quality in the middle of the park to play with Can. Everyone going on about keeper, CB, fullbacks and strikers and I agree but surely some quality in the middle of the park is needed. Thoughts?

Believable5 Unbelievable6

29 Feb 2016 23:29:57
Thoughts? You're wrong on just about every conceivable level.

29 Feb 2016 23:49:54
Think before you post next time, Red85.

01 Mar 2016 00:13:47
I know he's not been that great recently but I think that's down to his injury that I think he's still carrying.
He's an excelent player on form, one we are lucky to have especially as Brendan nearly used him as a down payment for Dempsey.

01 Mar 2016 00:14:34
Midfield is a weakness but I don't think it's just down to personnel and Hendo is coming back from a bad injury.

Don't know why he's the latest scapegoat.

01 Mar 2016 01:01:10
No dig here but, He's not good enough to captain Liverpool. He had an impossible job of following Gerrard but everything aside he simply doesn't effect games.
I think the kid works hard and is a decent little squad player. But what are we actually aiming for us as a club?
Top European Team again, or 9th in the league and The odd cup run?
Some fans have settled for This. We need quality players.

01 Mar 2016 01:36:21
I still remember how he was badly missed during the title push past couple of seasons, and suddenly now he's the culprit for the club sitting 9th.

01 Mar 2016 02:16:16
exactly Haizan, Henderson has missed quite a few months with injury as well. could it not be part of the reason we're 9th is because he wasn't even playing!

01 Mar 2016 02:41:25
My thought is the balance in midfield is terrible. Hendo, can, allen, milner when he plays there all essentially off the same thing. My sense is if we had a midfielder that could anchor / pivot and another to link with the attacking trio then that would free up hendo/ can to play their natural box to box game. But having the 2 of em together is no good imo, they both run hard, but invariably are left chasing the opposition or running aimlessly upfield! I'm sure the nuances in their game will come! But feel the need to bring some different pieces is needed.

01 Mar 2016 03:58:22
that's probably why we tried to sign alex teixeira. we are certaintly lacking goals from midfield.

01 Mar 2016 04:17:52
Hendo not in the midfield? i think he just needs time and games to be where he was before injury. he could do with a bit of support really.

29 Feb 2016 23:07:48
Just a thought and would appreciate people thoughts, especially the Eds. Do you think Lucas has a long term future at CB or could he evolve into a sweeper?

Positional sense from the few games he's played at the back seems top drawer and a sweeper role would allow him to play the ball out of defence.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - RTP.}

29 Feb 2016 23:28:34
Sorry Ed2 must have missed that. I'll have a look. Cheers.

29 Feb 2016 22:46:20
Ed001/ 2 if Phillipe Coutinho was to move in the summer to a champions league team. Could you see Oliver Torres as a long term successor?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - No.}

29 Feb 2016 21:21:28
I hate to throw random names out, as I know it winds you up ed002, but perhaps you could tell me if Liverpool have shown interest in goalkeepers? Specifically Maksym Koval.
23 years old, had 64 appearances and 32 clean sheets, represented Ukraine at every level, and played for dynamo kyiv in champions league.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - I have explained about goalkeepers but there is no interest from Liverpool in Koval.}

29 Feb 2016 21:46:58
I see a lot of transfer wish lists here and positions we have to stregthen, defenders, GK DM. I really think we mainly need one or two super highly performing players as Attacking midielders. Super highly performing players shouldn't necessrily be 30M players. They can be a Mahrez or a Payett.

But we just need desperatly players who can open the game, who can give a pass behind the lines who can score.

For two years, since the day Suarez left our forward game looks like the biggest traffic jam in the world and whoever we bring just get stuck there. It doesn;t help that we play so much through the middle and try short passes rather than playing wide and cross inside. But first and foremost it is these one or two top class players that we miss.

just don;t ask me where do you find these players because I haven't a clue. Maybe give a call to the Leicester scouting team.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

29 Feb 2016 22:43:10
I think the firminio Sturridge Coutinio front 3 would get better and better . They need to all stay fit a remain at the club but I think they all have good movement and would improve with a good run of games . We all no we need new players and players that are going to start not squad players what we have loads of.

We are not going to have £100 million to spend so I think with the money we do have start with the most vital positions needed and to me 1st is a goalkeeper, we have a CB on the way so 2nd maybe a LB . I agree with a good creative midfielder if we generate some money and then another striker, but let's be realistic regarding how much money we have and what we can attract.

29 Feb 2016 23:54:20
We have holes in the team at GK, LB and midfield, areas that 2/ 3 players can plug. CB has been addressed with Matip. Now on to LB and GK because Mingo and Moreno are aweful. I'd rather focus most of our energy on moving players on who can't contribute and pad the squad with the youngsters like Ojo, Stewart, Brannagan, Smith and whoever else.

01 Mar 2016 01:08:23
We need one goalscoring wide man like a Mahrez, Sanchez to complement Coutinho/ Firmino/ Sturridge. We need a TOP TOP goalkeeper.

Rest is a nice to have with Flanno or Smith capable at LB, Hendo/ can/ Grujic/ Stewart etc. Capable in midfield and Sturridge/ Ings/ Origi/ Firmino able to play upfront. Having said that I'd love to see an experience DM/ midfielder who can direct play alongside Hendo while Can continues to develop his game.

01 Mar 2016 04:19:55
next season firmino coutinho ings and sturridge will destroy EPL. wait and watch.

29 Feb 2016 21:01:07
Well i can't beleive all the vile hatred and abuse us so called fans are throwing at our players after a very close run thing in a cup final against a team challenging for the Premier League title.

Sure i was disapointed with the result but to react and to trash our captin, vice captin, keeper and most of the squad is not acceptable imo.

I no some will say fans deserve there own opinions but its taken to far.

Lets get behind our players and team and support who ever pulls on the shirt.

Onwards and upwards.

Believable8 Unbelievable6

29 Feb 2016 21:44:44
Post Mortems occur in every walk of life i'm afraid its the only way you can IMPROVE otherwise you just stagnate.

It may seem to you that people are trashing players I deem it as constructive criticism that's why the eds have a disagree and agree box because after all its a forum.

Wine for my men we ride at dawn - Jurgen Klopp.

01 Mar 2016 00:02:33
007, I disagree. There's a difference between doing a post morgen and outright trashing of players and coaches. Just because we lost a game on PENALTIES to a team far better than us on paper. We may not have played our best game but neither did City who were so scared of getting thumped again that they played THREE def midfielders in Fernando, Fernandinho and Yaya. We got screwed by Mingo's howler but the players fought and battled back to level the score. You may haven't read some of the drivel on here since the game ended but I have and I'm appalled at the beating the players are getting, calling for Hendo to be sold, Sahko was useless whereas he was concussed, Firmino should be sold, the lot. Even Carra joined in by beating up on a half fit Studge. It is for this reason that Ed02 calls us the worst fans in England at trashing our own players.

01 Mar 2016 01:45:56
People are angry. Trashing the squad involves saying things like 'benteke turns like the QE2' or 'henderson is a wimp and a girl'. I haven't seen much of that imo.

What i have seen is genuine, well founded criticism of serial offenders in the squad that you'd have to be an idiot to turn a blind eye to.

If you don't have a problem with a keeper who concedes goals like that, a left back who is never in position, a midfield with no intent to create chances and a captain and vice captain that seemingly don't want to take pens, then i am so very confused as to what warrants criticism from you.

Personally though i do think people are being over the top on hendo and sturridge who are both just coming back from injuries, the rest of the squad have no excuse.

29 Feb 2016 20:54:43
Eds did Studge pick up an injury towards the end yesterday or was it just cramp setting in?

Believable2 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - cramp.}

29 Feb 2016 21:24:09
Knowing Sturridge that could be 3/ 4 weeks out.

01 Mar 2016 04:00:32
that's also why he didn't take a penalty, not that he has a good record from the spot.

29 Feb 2016 20:05:59
Quick teaser. We all agree we need additions to the squad but we also have players who can do a job. I will list positions and say who we have and who you realistically think we can get as an upgrade.

GK: migs - begovic
LB: lose Moreno and keep smith/ flanno.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

29 Feb 2016 20:16:57
Begovic, no thanks.

29 Feb 2016 20:30:33
A Goalkeeper can Win you matches and Lose you matches unfortunately our current Keepers FORTE is the latter, we start every game with a one goal handicap sometimes more makes you wonder sometimes if far eastern syndicates are involved?

29 Feb 2016 20:37:20
Moreno can't tackle or defend very well, seems to be scared of getting hurt and pulls out a lot, not all the time I must say. With his dribbling and ability to cross (he can cross but a little hit and miss) he plays more like a left winger.
Just an observation and opinion, I am NOT saying we should keep him and play as a left winger - so please don't take this out of context and I know many would like to see him go/ replaced.
I like the look of Brad Smith, crosses really well, can get up the wing well - defending is ok but will improve with experience.

29 Feb 2016 20:54:38
I think germany is definately the go-to for goalkeepers right now. They seem to churn them out at an amazing rate, a bit of nifty scouting could see us find a true bargain, must be something to do with the coaching or philosophy because they have so many of a good standard.

29 Feb 2016 21:26:58
Don't think it's just goalkeepers, they redesigned their youth structure a while back, and look at the plethora of players they have now.

29 Feb 2016 22:01:40
Can he be coached does he have the right attitude are the questions I'd ask about Moreno

And Smith crosses well but who to aim at we have to many players looking for passes outside the box rather then in the mix.

01 Mar 2016 00:09:17
Yes, Fencey. They learnt from the French and the Spanish that developing your youth from a technical and skill stand point was the way forward and like clock work, they are now dominating football the exact way France and Spain did. Another thing they did was they started including German born immigrants like Klose, Podolski, Gerald Asamoah and many other German born Turks like Ozil, Can and the lot, all that has benefited them like it did the French. As for Moreno and Mingo, their individual errors have cost us goals and points this season and I hope Klopp will move them on.

01 Mar 2016 00:16:32
Moreno should go if he can be sold but who will buy him?

At LB we have Flanno, Smith and Gomez.

29 Feb 2016 18:17:07
Hey guys I think we not going to sign a new gk and I'm actually among the few who would rather have us stick with the current crop unless we can move mignolet on I'd rather have us invest in higher quality midfielders and wingers with no more than 3 new signings just to maintain the chemistry in the team and avoid wasting time as players struggle to gell.

Believable1 Unbelievable12

29 Feb 2016 20:41:45
Get rid of Migs and Bogdan totally, buy a top class keeper and Ward on bench - simple! Just need the £20 mil for a top keeper as we won't get that back on the sale of current keepers.
Then we have the problem of finding the right one for that money, who would want to move to us - with no CL and Euros coming up. We do offer a good prospect though, maybe Leno or someone like could have their head turned by us.

29 Feb 2016 22:34:58
As far as I can remember only Buffon has gone for 20 million plus, I'm sure we could find a promising goalkeeper for less.

01 Mar 2016 00:13:21
You must be on some unhealthy mess, Red10. How many goals and points does Mingo and Bogdan have to cost us for you to understand that he needs sold. Even, yesterday, he is partly to blame for our loss because before his howler, we were in no danger of conceding. They both need to go and get a GK in who will actually help us win instead of helping the other team win.

01 Mar 2016 04:04:12
also a new goalkeeping coach as well redohio, the current one is not fit for purpose.

29 Feb 2016 17:16:33
How many players do u think we will sign in the summer? N do u all think we need a new spine of a team? Personally i think we have the basics there. Just a new goalkeeper we have matip commin in the summer. I think klopp wil add a right sided winger then i think he will go with that. wouldn't mind seeing xhaka commin tho if we could get him.

Believable0 Unbelievable9

29 Feb 2016 17:38:24
Imagine it is more about who will go. When everything be returns from loan have long list of players who's futures have to be decided.

If matip signs imagine it means at most we will look for a GK, a winger and maybe a striker. With grujic our midfield is overloaded so definitely think we have to ship a few there.

Think we should assess what we have and what roles everyone plays in the team (eg I like lallana as a player but don't think he adds much to the team) move on those who don't fit and try improve the starting XI.

29 Feb 2016 17:43:58
I don't care who we sign because i trust klopp to at least sign players with heart, balls and character who will be indespensable to the team no matter what their ball control is on fifa.

Also i believe spine's are grown over time with stability, not bought. The only reason you saw lucas act like a proper leader yesterday was because he was by far the longest serving player in the team.

Matip on a free seems to be good business but we shall have to see.

Also holes in the squad could be filled depending on which young players step up in the final few games.

I think goalkeeper is a must, fullbacks will have to be assessed at the end of the year but the general feeling is that our current pair are very poor. If skrtel leaves, another centre back could come in. I think that another holding midfielder is needed at least, our current centre mids play all the same game, all huffing and puffing, i'm not sure amy academy players are ready for the role right now. I imagine that, if markovic is indeed sold, a proper winger will be bought, as we only have one in the form of jordon ibe. Up front, even if benteke leaves, we have enough.

Theres a lot of players needed but with the sheer amount of players leaving, coupled with the stepping up of academy talent, i do think a major overhaul is possible, just don't flip if they're mostly shrewd signings rather than 45 million plus players.

29 Feb 2016 17:55:05
A quality GK
Left Back
Winger
Deep lying playmaker

If we strengthen these 4 positions and with no European football next season ( looking very likely), top4 and winning one domestic cup will be realistic targets.

29 Feb 2016 18:58:45
A top class gk . A deep lying playmaker and reus lol.

29 Feb 2016 19:34:45
Not including Grujic and Matip, I'd say maybe 2 more at most and perhaps another kid or two. Call it maybe 10 or so out, 4-5 in I think.

01 Mar 2016 00:23:03
I think a top class keeper would make a massive difference.
I can see Subotic coming in to partner Matip and someone to freshen things up in midfield.
Much depends on champions league. If we get that then better players will come like Götze.

29 Feb 2016 16:43:24
I understand that benteke isn't what klopp wants, but why is he refusing to play him?
I know he hasn't played very well when he has been picked, but he hasn't really been given a chance, just wonderd if anyone knew real reason for not picking a 30mill player?

Believable0 Unbelievable15

29 Feb 2016 17:00:34
He's been given plenty of chances and not taken it. He lacks any hunger or desire to succeed here. Talented guy but doesn't show it often enough.

He needs to be a big fish in a small pond. It suited him at Villa as the pressure is not as high as us demanding a win and performance each match. Coupled with the fact we play a high press game And you need to run and work your butt off, he's not suited.

29 Feb 2016 17:04:49
Has HAS given him a chance and benteke has jogged around offering nothing but frustration from our own players. He is not we ever needed.

29 Feb 2016 17:08:31
I think you answered your question by saying it isn't what Klopp wants, I think he will start Origi on Wednesday deservedly.

29 Feb 2016 17:10:50
To be fair Benteke did have a number of chances and didn't do enough. I hope he'll be given more chances to prove himself before the end of the season but he can't complain that Klopp has been unfair on him.

29 Feb 2016 17:20:35
He simply doesn't fit in with the style we want. Why play him if his not the right fit, Origi needs game time so rather play him. It was a silly signing.

29 Feb 2016 17:57:17
Origi offers everything that Benteke cannot. Beneteke may be stronger but Origi's positioning inside the box is better and his work rate plus desire triumphs Benteke's lazy a** every time. Benteke is not bad, just not a Klopp player. He had his chance and blew it, just like Moreno.

29 Feb 2016 17:59:08
If Origi comes off the bench in a high intensity Cup final and played his heart out from the word go and nearly won it for us, then you know Benteke is old news and won`t be here next year.

29 Feb 2016 19:11:02
Let benteke go he's not good enough full stop he's had more than enough chances I've seen a tethered horse move faster.

{Ed002's Note - It is hard to see why anyone would sign for Liverpool - vast numbers the fans are simply trashing the players constantly.}

01 Mar 2016 00:15:56
Not trashing the player. Just saying what the coach is doing as in, benching him because he's not good enough. It is not an insult to say that a player who's not good enuff, is not good enuff.

29 Feb 2016 14:59:55
I was at the game Sunday. Also the game last Thursday.
And we Shouldn't have played that team in the Europa League. Liverpool Would've turned them over on Thursday with Benteke ect all hopefully playing for a place in the cup final!
City had a day on us and it showed.

Now If we had a full weeks rest on them, we'd have over run them completely all over the pitch, excpecially in extra time!

Believable0 Unbelievable14

29 Feb 2016 16:39:22
If we picked a different side against Augsburg, we could of been out of the Europa league.

29 Feb 2016 16:46:05
We didn't turn Augsburg over with our first team so what makes you think we would of done it with some second string players. How disrespectful are you. Would you of made that comment if we would of won yesterday. We lost on penalties, we didn't really turn up for the first 80 minutes, that's not through lack of fitness that's through playing pretty much mediocre. Performance was generally flat, crowd for 80 mins was pretty flat. Still gutted.

29 Feb 2016 17:58:40
Can't fault the effort in the players, just the quality on the day want good enough with too many players having quiet games, Lucas was excellent and thought firmino was best of attackers, thing that disappointed me was poor passing and players holding onto the ball too long instead of quick passes. Maybe only thing on positive side is with Europa looking only way into champions league we could give more game time in league to younger players who might surprise us playing regularly.

01 Mar 2016 04:08:16
well said lfc together the amount of times I yell at the tv faster faster when we break, we take far to long why take 10 touches when 3 should do.

29 Feb 2016 14:52:36
hi eds
am i wrong thinking that the most dangerous thing is to keep skrtel on the team, i think he is headless chicken ho is destroying the defence, with the spiderman goal keeper that we have ho don't know anything about commanding his defence
.
if we want to be at another level we have to find a better captain a rel leader because henderson is not the one for us
thanks eds.

Believable1 Unbelievable11

{Ed002's Note - There are far more dangerous things than that - messing around with explosives without adequate training; playing on electric rail lines; jumping off a very tall building. Lots of things.}

29 Feb 2016 15:08:23
the best answer thank you Ed002
i think you are having a bad day.

{Ed002's Note - I am on a train just entering Birminham on the way north - so not perfect.}

29 Feb 2016 15:50:05
Give our Captain a break for Gods sake.

29 Feb 2016 17:20:07
Love the way it started as a dig on Martin, then suddenly Jordan. What a twist, M. Night shamalyn would have been proud of that one.

29 Feb 2016 19:13:00
Give me skirts everyday of the week over sahko the bloke frightens me everytime he has the ball. can't pass and has a head like a 50p coin the ball goes anywhere.

29 Feb 2016 20:17:32
What's Robbie Fowler got to do with this Liver?

29 Feb 2016 14:41:34
If we lose to United in the Europa, do we finally start saying that Klopp needs to improve? He seems to have escaped all blame to this point.

Believable7 Unbelievable18

29 Feb 2016 14:56:41
It would turn this into a disappointing campaign but it wouldn't, by itself, be a reason to question Klopp. I'm yet to be convinced by him but regardless of what happens this season it's next season he will be judged. Next season he would have had a pre-season, he would have had time to evaluate his squad and he will have brought in a few of his own players.

If after 13 games next year there's no sign of improvement I'll start to get antsy.

29 Feb 2016 15:07:43
he has had plenty of stick on this site for starters mate, I personally would like him to play 2 up front and play at a quicker pace when we break for instance, other fans have there views, what we can all agree on is that we are to inconsistent and are lacking quality in to many key areas. Come the summer I expect klopp to be utterly ruthless with the whole squad, he has virtually binned bogdan and bentenke already I expect many more to follow, for the remainder of this season I want to see more of origi and teixeira and ojo, that Europa league tie has certaintly taken on added importance, sounds like klopps honeymoon period is coming to a end, that's the punishment for not winning a trophy, his 4th consecutive cup final defeat btw.

29 Feb 2016 15:25:42
How can he these are not his players. he can only work with what he's got. And that is a average team with 1 or 2 good players.

29 Feb 2016 15:49:15
True but i think now is the time to start dropping the experienced players because they just clearly aren't going to respond.

There are more players playing badly than well right now. Its time to give the young players a proper go.

29 Feb 2016 16:26:50
Klopp deserves and will get more time, but have to admit it's all been a bit underwhelming so far. The players he inherited may not be the best, but they're not that bad either.

29 Feb 2016 18:01:29
His honeymoon period was over weeks ago.

29 Feb 2016 18:46:43
Isnt s goven that Klopp needs to improve the team. don't think we should make sweeping statements after specfic results.

29 Feb 2016 20:27:53
Blame him for what?
Getting to a final for the first time in 4 seasons - naughty Klopp.
Getting to a knockout stage in Europe for the first time in ages - evil Klipperty.
Giving the youngsters a chance? Selfish Klopp.

There is nothing to blame him for, there is a lot of work to do with this squad whether it's Jurgen Klopp or Mr Blobby there is no instant fix or instant results.

You've got to have a wider perspective than game to game.

29 Feb 2016 20:36:26
ffs klopp is one of the best managers in europe, he can only do so much with the players he has got, out of our squad there's only about 4 who are good enough to get into other top teams, so there is your answer, when klopp has his players in the team then you can give him stick or whatever you want but he can only do so much with this squad, you could get guardiola in and he would have the same difficulties, he can't play the way he wants because he does not have the right players then we have players injured or off form to add to the mix, just wait till he has his own players then its all on him result wise but up until then support him that's if you are supporters of liverpool fc.

01 Mar 2016 00:19:49
I think people have been trying to blame him for stuff since he got here and now they think they have a basis to do so whereas, their reasons have no basis in reality. Ron has pointed out the places where he has improved us. But his detractors will never accept it as some of them deep down, still want BR back even tho he had three and a half years and got nothing done while Klopp has outdone him in a measley five months.

01 Mar 2016 04:18:32
I think klopp should get critized when he makes mistakes, I think the danger is putting the guy on a pedestal, the league form has been underwhelming let's be honest, having said that he has done a lot of positive things as well, its going to be a hell of a ride with him in charge and I for one am strapped in and ready for where that takes us, looking forward to seeing what next year's side looks like, i'm also looking forward to the Europa league double header with our "friends" the side klopp himself wanted.

{Ed's Note - We have posted a new article entitled, Liverpool Centre Back Strength Review

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Feb 2016 15:15:43
Nice review Tris, however, before writing off Skrtel completely, I'd like to see if he is like Samson when he returns ;-)

Lucas has been an extremely pleasant surprise! He reminds me of Carra, in being able to take the first 2-3 steps in his head first and also putting his body on the line repeatedly for the club. Without our scouse heartbeat, he is now the samba/ scouse rhythm the club needs to follow.

29 Feb 2016 14:21:43
The one regret I have about Liverpool's display yesterday was that we didn't test caballero enough in normal time, our front 3 were just not at it imo. The other point I have to make is that we have won enough trophys on penalaties, now we are on the receiving end its hurts, but that's football we have to man up and deal with it. we have lost a game, some Liverpool fans have lost there lives supporting this club, let's remember that. jft96. that's when you have to mix your own game up though redohio, maybe go a bit longer with a pass or having someone break from deep with the ball to create more space for the front men, city had been thrashed by us 4-1 there was no way they were going to let that happen again.

29 Feb 2016 14:20:00
I was one that got incredibly frustrated and may of taken it out on a few players. I. e. Milner and Migs. I hold my hands up the moment got to me!

The team played their hearts out yesterday and it takes a lot of bottle to take a pen, nothing against any of them. People slating Hendo/ Milner for all we know either could of been number 5 (the pressure kick if you get there) and migs guessed right for all the pens, but they were all in the corner so it's nit picking blaming him for those.

As for the 90 mins, they could and should of been out of sight so they did well to get themselves back in the game.

Am I happy with the result, NO! But the boys put in the effort and the fans were awesome! Proud to be a red and we move on as one to the next game.

My take on the game. No point in blaming any individual of yesterday loss as it's just waste of time. We need to look at our mistake and correct it in future.

Pelli learned a lesson from the previous Encounter and deployed a sit back and counter tactics which worked brilliant for them. Liverpool enjoyed a 64% possession and did hardly anything.
We had only one shot on goal in the 83rd min compared to city who meter missing sitters after sitters.

They deserve to be the champion and we were never deserving to reach the finals in my eyes ( stole and Carlisle )

On the positive note. Stand out performance from Lucas who was the best from our side.

Let's look forward to EL and the only hope for some pride this season. Sad to admit our season almost got over in February.

Cheers for posting

So why did we not deserve to get into the final Harry?

29 Feb 2016 15:46:13
I am not of the opinion that we didn't deserve to get to the final. But I am of the opinion that we didn't exactly beat anyone of note to get there.

29 Feb 2016 18:03:44
More, you are wrong. Vs the Saints, many had written us off in that game until we put SIX past them so your idea that we beat no one of note makes no sense.

29 Feb 2016 20:04:00
@irish rover, because we beat southampton 1-6, scored against stoke away from home and were god awful against them to get out of the tie. Just because we didn't sign kovacic!

29 Feb 2016 14:06:02
A quick shout out to any of those who waited outside the Hilton to give the lads a show of support as they got on the bus.

It was absolutely Baltic stood outside there.

Fair play also to Vincent Kompany. Very sportsman like following the winning penalty. A class act.

Believable6 Unbelievable3

29 Feb 2016 14:51:56
Kompany is the type of captain you want at your club. He seems very level headed and educated. Plus what a player.

29 Feb 2016 15:17:23
He's got an MBA from Manchester Business School. One of my Bluenose mates was in the same study group as 'Vinny'.

{Ed001's Note - shame he suffers so many injuries, that is one man you can't begrudge every bit of success he gets.}

29 Feb 2016 17:35:13
hope Matip develops similarly

Kompany was bought for £6 million after playing a handful of games that season for Hamburg due to injury.

awesome player, but like people have said - could do with some more appearances.

01 Mar 2016 00:22:33
Great player but a a better gentleman who is happy about the life football has given him. Without football, he'd prolly be in jail. Not my words, his.

29 Feb 2016 14:01:03
Just watched yesterday, s game again. Can, t knock the effort but definitely think we should take the captaincy off Henderson. For me he doesn't offer enough quality or character and I think the fact he didn't fancya pen speaks volumes. Any thoughts? For me Lucas should haveit.

Believable5 Unbelievable6

29 Feb 2016 15:44:23
Not sure his injury has helped and who's to say, he wasn't up for the 5th penalty, like Gerrard was in 2005? Those that took the penalties, I had reasonable faith in them scoring when it mattered, it just wasn't to be! Felt so sorry for Lucas, just put it the same place he did in the last shoot out and the keeper guessed right, another foot higher and it probably would have been in! The team lost, not one player or captain!

01 Mar 2016 00:24:03
How people can slate individuals in a penalty shoot out loss is beyond belief, bordering India childish petulance.

29 Feb 2016 12:53:22
View from the middle of the City section (Club Wembley, don't judge me it was my only way in but I now understand the phrase 'prawn sandwich brigade'! ) :

Was gutting, but the players walking up to the penalties clearly just were not right for them - they were brave to accept but they were psyched out before they kicked. Cabellero still had work to do though so credit for not completely falling apart and missing.

There was no excuse for their goal - nothing was distracting Mings, he was focused on the shot - it was just a shambles by him.

Sterlings misses were even worse than they looked on TV up close and personal. He actually had time to think and aim, it was just awful. Which made me laugh.

All in all, I enjoyed the game and even though the result didn't go out way I'm happy with our performance and our future. Get that partnership up front cemented and we're a team that can match anyone in England. That early sub cost us, Allen could have changed that game by changing the momentum of our midfield in the second half and definitely in added time.

Believable4 Unbelievable6

29 Feb 2016 15:48:03
I agree and not that I blame him at all, but think the Sakho early substitution affected our subs late on, but guess we'll never know if it would have made any difference!

29 Feb 2016 15:51:02
Talking of subs, I thought Origi should have come on much earlier, and Allen should have replaced Henderson at half time. This is not with hindsight, I said this to my mates at the time.

29 Feb 2016 12:35:09
Hi eds. A quick question about Jordan Henderson.
Over the last number of games he has not being playing at the same level as last season. He is not getting around the pitch as well as he used to. Do you put this down to klopps tactics and/ or the heel injury he suffered earlier in the season. Is his Liverpool future and captaincy under threat?

Believable3 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - He has to do what he is told by the coach. I am not aware of any threat to his place or captaincy.}

29 Feb 2016 14:02:21
I think without and out and out Defensive Midfielder in the team (lucas is playing at CB) Henderson has to stay more central, which doesn't fit his game. I think when our CBs get healthy you'll see more of the old Henderson with Lucas hopefully back in the center of midfield.

29 Feb 2016 12:15:29
Ryan Fulton, Andre Wisdom, Lloyd Jones, Jordan Williams, Lazar Markovic, Marko Grujic, Allan, Luis Alberto, Samed Yesil, Mario Balotelli and Taiwo Awoniyi are all returning from loan and quite a few will be deemed surplus to requirements. On top of these Joel Matip is incoming and Jurgen Klopp will be able to start to influence our squad and sign players to build a spine upon.

Believable2 Unbelievable4

29 Feb 2016 12:33:29
These will be returning during the summer for those that think they are getting recalled earlier than previously agreed.

{Ed002's Note - There are som of these I would not expect to see back at Liverpool in the summer. And a couple who won't be able to stay and will need to be sold or loaned out again.}

29 Feb 2016 13:59:55
I think that to 002 but hopefully we can sell rather than re-loan but due to the ridiculous wages we have some players on will not make that a reality. I would like to see Lazar Markovic in our squad next season as he is still very young and under Klopp could be a very good player.

{Ed002's Note - The two obvious players that will be loaned out again are Allan and Awoniyi. I don't see that Liverpool will look to sell either at this time.}

002 I was thinking more along the lines of Andre Wisdom, Luis Alberto and Mario Balotelli being offloaded and the 2 that you mentioned being loaned for experience and international clearance.

{Ed002's Note - Yesil will go and Markovic needs to make a decision I would think.}

29 Feb 2016 11:35:38
Hi eds,

What abt putting milner as lb. he had been doing well recently. Although he was tired, when switched as lb, he put in some decent crosses.

Defending is another story though, but cannot be bad as moreno.

Believable0 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - There is no need to do that.}

29 Feb 2016 12:32:02
Would rather Smith or Flanagan got a run of games before we did that if Moreno is being dropped!

29 Feb 2016 13:52:24
Play Flanagan/ Smith there till the end of the season and the sign an experienced LB in the summer. Moreno had his chance and blew it big time. A new GK would also be welcome. I can see our defense will improve considerably by strengthening these two positions.

29 Feb 2016 12:24:10
Just play Flanno or Smith there instead.

29 Feb 2016 11:17:46
'fans' that can come on here and slate the team after losing on penalties after more than holding our own after 120 minutes against a star studded squad need to take a long, hard look at themselves and their levels of expectation. We could have even won the game in the 2nd half of extra time. I for one would like to applaud every man in red for their performance yesterday, never gave up. YNWA boys.

Believable11 Unbelievable5

29 Feb 2016 11:50:55
Oh don't make out like out squad isn't star studded, or should be at least.

Benteke- 32 million
Lallana - 25 million
Firmino- 30 million plus god only knows
Milner - Nearly highest paid player

Please don't pretend that somehow we are an inferior team and that you are proud 'because they tried', they're a top level team who should be more than capable of matching city in a final, which to their credit they did, but that doesn' leave room for praise like we were some kind of underdog.

While they did try and pulled a goal back, its clear to see there were aspects of that performance that let us down and have been letting us down all season - it wasn't bad luck, we led to our own demise.

Also i think the majority of the criticism is coming for certain players flapping penalties. Its completely warranted imo.

29 Feb 2016 11:54:55
Totally agree mate. I'm fed it with trying to educate people who just slate the team.

29 Feb 2016 12:12:09
We sacked Rodgers because he bought bad players for lots of money and couldn't make it work. Their price doesn't make them world beaters but for that money they should be. Firmino is a very good footballer.

29 Feb 2016 12:19:44
Sorry but Benteke, Lallana and Milner are not what you would call top class by any definition. They wouldn't make the Man City starting line up and all three were signed with no idea of how they would fit in.

Benteke a centre forward who thrives on long balls and crosses in a team without wingers.

Lallana, a below par number 10 in a team well stocked for number 10's.

Milner, a one paced winger, who cannot put crosses on a pools coupon brought in as a central midfielder when he plainly isn't a central midfielder.

Firmino is the only one of these who has the potential to be a really top player.

Lallana, Milner and Benteke are a constant reminder of Rodgers failings in the transfer market and how profligate we have been with the Suarez and Sterling transfer fees.

29 Feb 2016 12:41:31
To be fair milner was probably one of man cities best players last season.

29 Feb 2016 13:11:27
Mr dennis i am as aware as anybody those players aren't good enough. My point is to make out that these players are like pub players who 'gave it their all' and somehow had the odds stacked against them is just silly.

They can all be as good as they want to be. Instead they're just not good enough.

However the way that some posters are going on you'd think that all our players were one-legged or something, saying that we are some kind of inferior side and never had a real chance in the first place!

29 Feb 2016 11:01:50
Big up to all the Red Army that were at Wembley yesterday. All you could hear on TV was the fans singing 'You'll never walk alone'.

I don't know why I am still upset over this loss. The team worked so hard to get to the final and to lose in penalties is really hard to get over. But at the same time I'm really encouraged and hopeful that there are more finals in the near future and that this loss will make the club even more hungry for success. The best way to bounce back is to win Wednesday.

First of all hard luck to the redmen. liverpool is just a special club like no other. Question for the eds. Are fifa, fa, uefa going to do anything about the constant diving, playacting? Watching sturridge and moreno look for penos was disgusting yesterday. Its in everygame i watch, i remember gordon watsons got slated in the early 90s for a dive. now grown men fall over with any contact or not contact eg young, sterling and most pros. when did this become acceptable?, i love soccer but hate what it has become, grown me rolling around then then sprinting seconds later. I remember watching a video of Barcelona practising diving/ simulation and it just made me sick.

Believable1 Unbelievable7

29 Feb 2016 10:43:44
Marathon man

This is the way the game is now, its all about trying to get your opponenets sent off.

This is why we need video refs, any player taking a blatant dive needs red carding.

Go back a couple off seasons I remember Ashley young every weekend diving for pens and getting them.

29 Feb 2016 12:05:25
Video refs will signal the end of football as we know it. I'd like to see post match fines for obvious simulation such as Moreno.

29 Feb 2016 12:34:55
I think the punishment for diving should fit the punishment for the player were it not a dive, especially in regards to cards. However in general, you can't tell the difference between a dive, foul and a player tripping over in real time (often the player doesn't even know) - you need a video ref.

29 Feb 2016 12:36:17
I think it's crazy that video refs aren't in football yet. They've massively enhanced cricket and tennis and the only sport they've been a nuisance in is Rugby but I think that's got far more to do with how it's been implemented.

Team Captains should get two or three appeals a match. When requested the Captain states he thinks something's happened and the ref checks if he's right. Yesterday was a perfect example, it wouldn't have been advantageous to us but Toure could have told the ref to check the penalty incident and in seconds the correct decision could have been made. It would make the sport better not worse.

29 Feb 2016 10:06:52
Needed a moment to mourn in peace. What a game yesterday though.

I was absolutely gutted for Sakho but it was definitely the right thing to do to take him off and get him checked.

Mignolet was awful for their goal but I am finding it hard to criticise him as Aguero would've had a hattrick on another day.

Clyne struggled however. Sterling caused him nightmares all game. It was an enthralling battle though.

Lucas. Wow. Man of the match.

Toure was solid and didn't put a foot wrong.

Moreno was constantly out of position and should've conceded a penalty and been sent off. You can call it abuse if you want but when a left back gets subbed and a right midfielder is dropped in to replace him, you can't really dispute how bad he was.

Can was formidable. Absolutely bossed the midfield for 120 minutes.

Hendo was okay. He made some great tackles to prevent counter attacks but on the ball he was ineffective.

Milner was anonymous until he switched to left back and then he put in some great crosses for Origi who was unlucky not to score.

Firmino had a bad day. His finishing wasn't there and he must've been caught offside 5 times at least!

Sturridge was poor by his standards but still linked up well in the final third. He looked tired though as he wasn't running in behind.

Coutinho was excellent. Good finish, hard working etc. Would've been man of the match if Lucas hadn't played like a god!

All in all, a good team display in which we were unfortunate to lose in the end. If there is one thing you can't question, it's the teams passion. They ran themselves into the ground for us so hats off to them.

Believable7 Unbelievable11

29 Feb 2016 11:05:04
Disagree about Migs. All the ones he saved he should be expected to save as a premier league gk, and the one he let in he should definitely have saved.

29 Feb 2016 11:41:01
Thought coutinho's passing was woeful myself.

29 Feb 2016 11:49:55
The one Migs pushed onto the post was a really good save, also the one he got finger tips to divert it around the post. He also got himself down to a point blank shot that went over the bar. They were all really good saves. Ultimately tho, the one he cocked up on changed the whole direction of the game.

29 Feb 2016 11:55:45
Can't believe so called "fans" slagging the players off. Every player gave everything they had to win that game but just fell short. Penalties is always a lottery and can go either way. Like EMS said they ran themselves into the ground for us, they should be applauded not criticised.

29 Feb 2016 11:56:45
Saying Aguero would have had a hat-trick is pointless. If he doesn't let in the clanger for the first goal then City don't get the space to counter attack in and the whole game is different.

I'm sorry, I can't forgive that clanger, it completely changes the game when you go 1 down against City and any Sunday league keeper would have saved that.

29 Feb 2016 12:16:48
Disagree about Clyne. I think over the 120 mins sterling did very little.

29 Feb 2016 15:16:51
no one can say they were shocked by mignolet's latest clanger though can they? when ferandinho struck it there was no way he expected it to go in, that was the game changer right there, otherwise he could have gone on to make the saves he did, and phil scores 7mins to go and we steal a 1-0 win, that's what the top teams do they find a way to win, when not playing well but to build a great team you need a top goalkeeper, we badly need one.

29 Feb 2016 09:59:23
Such a fine margin between getting hailed as the best thing ever and getting ridiculed and attacked by internet trolls. Had that penalty shootout gone the other way all you slamming our players and manager would be singing their songs. It is truly embarrasing.

We drew the game 1-1 and lost the lottery of penalties. Get over it and move on.

I think the boys out there did me proud. I wanted us to win and we didn't - but i enjoyed the game, the thrill and the exitement.

I enjoyed the fact that we where fighting for a trophy again and i never thought we'd be in a position to do that back in september/ october.

Mistakes where made - surely. You never loose without making mistakes. But mistakes are part of the game and i fully trust our players, manager and the coaching staff to learn from those mistakes.

So i am positive, in a strange way, the day after a sour defeat.

We will be in this situation again and we will fight for trophies again. Next time maybe we'll have the luck and/ or ability to get it over the line. But we where very close yesterday - painfully close and i prefer painfully close to painfully far away.

I want my pulse to go crazy. I want to be jumping on my seat every cross, header, clearence, shoot, pass, deadball, tackle, mazy run and interception - and i did that.

I was tortured and entertained and i enjoyed every second of it right until the end.

Now i can't be happy - but full of hope for another chance to live the game, feel like a football fan - a Liverpool fan. And a Liverpool fan i am!

Up next is Manchester City. What a blessing - let's put this right. The united games - let's put this right. The derby - let's put this right.

Lets go and try to win the Euro League. Get us another final, another chance to be football fans - and let us be football fans, yes let us be Liverpool fans and not pathetic internet trolls.

Lets believe and let's be proud.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

29 Feb 2016 09:17:12
I was at Wembley yesterday and I thought we did well to get it to extra time to be honest as in the second half they created a lot of chances anyway I am really proud of the effort and guts we showed, my only slight concern was in the second half was that one pass seemed to slice us open time and again, question for ed1 who is a massive fan of Lucas who was brilliant yesterday would you keep him at Centre back or would you put him back in midfield to stop us being sliced open as easy as a simple pass?

Believable6 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I would keep him at the back and look to work on improving the midfield.}

29 Feb 2016 09:27:47
Yeah fair enough and Stewart could play that role when fit, I have to say Lucas reads a game brilliantly.

{Ed001's Note - exactly mate. I would feel much more comfortable with Stewart in there.}

29 Feb 2016 08:55:56
I am a bit tired of all those 'show support and don't criticise' posts. This is not Enfield. This is a fan banter site where fans share their enjoyment after wins and frustration after losses. Nothing to do with support or lack of support. A fan should be able to tell to his fellow fan that a certain player is not good enough for us or that he was rubbish on the day. If you can't stand it you can open an 'only positive comments' banter site.

Believable8 Unbelievable11

29 Feb 2016 09:21:17
I have never seen you show support to the team or the players, Last night was by no means a perfect peformance but it does not warrant the amount of abuse being thrown around by so called fans.

29 Feb 2016 09:24:16
Constructive criticism is ok, mindless b. s. is not!

29 Feb 2016 09:29:51
@fanobip : ok after a regular game if you bash some players, we can understand.

But this was a final. There was no doubt about the efforts put in by the players. We equalized in the latter part of the game, throughout the game we showed an attacking intent and were rewarded by some good chances.

Its very very easy to criticize the players but you need to understand that these are OUR players. You can't change them halfway through the season.

If Klopp is what we all believe, then he will be looking at the performances and quality of these players and make suitable changes at the season's end.

They gave it their all. We lost, I am hurt but I am also proud of our players.

P. S. : not trying to tell you or anybody how to support your team. I know it hurts to see lack of quality in almost every part of the pitch and with maybe only 2 or 3 really good players but Rome wasn't built in a day.

Plus sometimes passion > talent. City with all their talent still came to penalty shootout stage!

29 Feb 2016 09:50:57
When I am in a match I show my support to the players, when I discuss it with friends I say what I think. when I go to a film with a friend if I don't enjoy it I tell my friend it was a bad film or that actor isn't great. I don't feel a need to support the actor. Of course if I am ever invited to the Oscars I will clapp my hands when he gets a prize out of redpect.

29 Feb 2016 10:09:22
@ fanobip: don't your friends get tired if you bitch abt the same thing over and over again for a year?

29 Feb 2016 08:41:14
Morning redmen

Before the loan update just a quick word on the final.
I don't like seeing players bashed after these games, they got us there in the first place!
If we are gutted imagine how they are feeling, especially those who missed pens yesterday.
Finals are the 1 game where you know each and every player gave everything they have and left it all on the field.
I hope Anfield really gets behind our boys on Wednesday and shows there appreciation.

On a side note who thinks Lucas should play cb for the rest of the season? The man has been assured and hasn't put a foot wrong since playing there.

We will now win the Europa so not all doom and gloom 😉

Now for the loan update.

Allen and grujic didn't have games before people ask.

Luis Alberto played the full 90 as deportivo lost at home to Granada.

Ballotelli played for the final minute as AC beat Torino.

Awoniyi started again!
He played for 85minutes as relegation threatened FSV got an away draw.

Yesil kept the bench warm as Luzern lost 3-1 to Sion.

Vigouroux saved a penalty as Swindon beat Peterborough 2-1.

Portsmouth and Fulton got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Cambridge.

Canos played for 83 minutes as
Brentford lost to Rotherham 2-1.

And there's your lot redmen.

Greetings all,

Just like to say embarrassed to read the lack of support to our team in defeat.
We are a mid table team, in transition with a number of players with questionable fitness after injury. City are just hitting form for the first time.

Some of the comments on Klopp and personal attacks on individuals frankly a disgrace.

People need to remember we have never bought world class players, we have made good players better. Remember the abuse we gave a young lucas?

We are not the best team, we don't have the best players but we are Liverpool!

Couldn't agree more Kobi. Reading some of the posts and comments on the live chat leaves me shaking my head. It's about time people realised that we have been in decline for years and we are where we deserve to be.

29 Feb 2016 08:00:17
Exactly kobi some fans are so negative it makes me sick. unlucky to the players staff thanks for your efforts, if your one of those horrible fans man your life must be miserable.

29 Feb 2016 08:07:08
Have not read the pages this weekend on purpose for reason not sure i want to read on tbh. Was going to say props to the team for showing guts and not caving in after the migs mistake. We could have even won it in extra time, so great effort and on we go.

29 Feb 2016 08:50:17
Well done Reds, not the desired result but lots of guts shown and we can look forward to better outcomes with a bit more luck. Overall proud of almost all for the effort and fight shown.

Beat Man Utd in EL and I'll be happy overall!

29 Feb 2016 09:10:32
I haven't read many of the posts following the final and it appears I should not waste my time doing so.

I thought the live chat was a great idea but found that there was too much negativity and abuse of players there for my liking, plus I struggled to keep up with it and focus on the footie.

A win would have been great for confidence but the team needs support from us now to see us through to the end of the season when we hopefully will strengthen key areas give the players a rest and the allow Klopp a good pre-season with the boys. Onwards and upwards!

29 Feb 2016 09:22:29
I don't agree that we have made good players better. I think our main problem in the last two years is that players that came to play for us lost it and their level dropped for some reason. Benteke, Balotelli, Lambert, Lovern, Lallana, Markovich and I can go on about it (Mings? Henderson of this season, Milner - could he have been that poor in City? Firmino) . Other players didn't progress much - Ibe, Can, Moreno, Clyne.

It may be our style of play, it may be the pressure, it may be other things but I think most of our players consistently under perform.

Really loved the Game last night, full 120 mins, then penalties. Awesome night and an awesome experience for the Players who shall be staying at the club.

AM i allowed to say that we lost because our finishing was poor. How the hell did Origi's header didn't go in? Loved the pass by Milner to Origi even that could have been buried.

I feel its time Migs is being replaced by a better Keeper. Although he kept us in Game but he could have helped saved the 1st Goal.

It is obviously very sad to loose a cup final on penalties but we should feel ourselves lucky to stay in the game till 120 mins. I feel very sad for Klopp and the lads but some players were not up to the standard in this final. Sturridge and Moreno for me were aweful and should not play in the next game. I have not seen the stats but the number of ball lost by Sturridge was shocking. He should have been replaced by Origi instead of Firmino. Anyway we can repair it on Wednesday by beating the Citizens and increase our chance for top 4.

Thank You Salim! I was getting really frustrated with Sturridge, every time he got the ball he gave it away. Awful performance. Hopefully they will work on that in training.

29 Feb 2016 05:48:21
Sturridge is very much like Ozil. Out of the 90mts, he waste 45 mts trying all the tricks and turns, gets dispossessed, goes down to the ground and never tracks back.

29 Feb 2016 15:21:26
he had a poor game yesterday that's all, he needs games to build his fitness, still a top player imo, hence all the whinging when he was not available, I would like him to build a understanding with firmino/ origi that would stand us in good stead for the future.

29 Feb 2016 05:26:52
I know i'm not a exactly a regular, but reading down the page, just about all player slateing today seems to be from names I don't often see. We were not poor! Why not come on here when we play well and give praise when praise is due? It really stinks to me. Yeah its disappointing. Yeah if only this or only if that.
Personally I thought City could have won easy if they took a few good chances, plus Moreno's foul on Aguero should have been a pen. City is built to win trophys. We are meant to be. but the reality is quite different.

City were unlucky the match went up to 120 mts. Aguero and Sterling missed 4 sitters between them while our only shot on target came in the 83rd minute.
We relied on luck and got us to extra time.

just watching utrecht vs feyenoord highlists in the ads on site. well this lad Dirk Kuyt looks ready for liverpool :P.

he takes good penalties as well I hear!

Has Man of Match ever gone to a player in the losing side?
Kompany was good yesterday and perhaps I'm being a little biased but Lucas was awesome in that centre-half role and was definitely man of match for me.

Lucas was our best player by a mile imo.

29 Feb 2016 15:26:58
lucas leiva was outstanding, how many times does this guy get written off he was up against one of the very best and he held his own, anybody can miss a penalty even Ronaldo or messi, ed001 you beat me to it I would keep him there for the rest of the season.

29 Feb 2016 04:36:54
Ed's or fellow posters if you could help me out: is Henderson still carrying an injury of some sort? Since coming back from his last injury he has been a shadow of his former self, really off the boil. Is this just bad form or are there some other underlying reasons for it? Cheers for any responses.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - still injured, he is carrying it.}

29 Feb 2016 05:09:52
he is carrying the injury and it is of the kind that will stay with him for a while is what I read when he was injured.

29 Feb 2016 07:21:05
Thanks for the responses - this makes way more sense than a simple loss of form - I really like the lad so hope we persist with him and see him come through this injury the player we know he is capable of being.

{Ed001's Note - I think that is why he is being given more of a defensive role than usual. He is inhibited by the injury, so is unable to make those lung bursting charges forward, best to just make the most of it for now.}

29 Feb 2016 04:24:04
well tough luck, we rode it a bit in normal time but great old Willy took us out in penalties.

Now a sweet revenge would be beating them at Anfield come Thursday and effectively denting/ ending their title chances. That shall also open up the top 4 race for us (long shot but still), west ham, united and city :P

-- well done to Mignolet apart from the goal he really kept us in the game. I do bash him a lot but he played well. still shouldn't be our first choice though.

Such a great game and we created oor own luck to stay in the game until penalties. Even creating our own chances to almost steal it! But that is football and ya just have to move on. Hope the lads can pick 'emselves up for city again! I think a fighting performance win or lose in the next one will be a great indication of the team's growth.

Ed001, do you think Lucas has the potential to switch to a permanent CB? I think he looks more comfortable each time he's played there. If Masch can do it for Barcelona why not? Would save us a few pounds and I've always wanted him to stay; I think his days at DM may not be too long with Stewart emerging and rumours of activity in the summer.

On a similar note, what are the most interesting changes of position from players you can recall? I can think of Sutton, Dublin, Halford but I'm old enough to remember Keegan was once a GK!

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - players change position all the time, Lucas should play out the season there and then we can re-examine it in the summer. By the way, I don't understand why people go on like Mash has done well at the back, he is constantly caught out of position and making ridiculously rash challenges. I guess when you play for Barcelona it is so rare you actually have to do any defending no one notices that they can't defend.

It is hard to pick any out, Sutton and Dublin both played up front and in defence, rather than being moved into defence permanently. One of the Holdsworth's did the same, as have many, many more. There are so many examples that none really stand out. Players positions evolve throughout their career.}

29 Feb 2016 06:32:35
I was going to suggest the same thing. For me he hasn't put a foot wrong.
He has just played against Ageuro for 120 minutes in a cup final and for me was our best player. You are not going to get a much tougher challenge then that in world football.
Him, sakho, lovren and the new lad (forget his name) should be our 4 choices.

29 Feb 2016 02:27:19
Hi eds,

Do you think lucas need to play as cb as it would remove our cb issues.

He is winning all headers as cb just like when he was in dm pos.

We already brought in a new cb, do you think, there is an imprivment needed in midfield.

It seems we only need a winger and gk. In midfield stewart, grujic and rosssiter.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - Lucas looked good at centre back, I would certainly give him a run there until the end of the season, so he can be judged properly.}

29 Feb 2016 01:34:14
Eds I was wondering, has there been a single Liverpool player who hasn't been ridiculed by the "fans" yet this season. I have seen attacks on Lovren, Skertle, Sakho, Toure, Mereno, Gomez, Clyne, Lucas, Milner, Henderson, Lallana, Can, Firmino, Coutinho, Sturridge, Origi, Benteke, and Migs. I used to love coming on this site because you eds do a wonderful job and always provide the best information but now I can't stand it. The so called best fans in the world should be ashamed of themselves. The boys played their hearts out today and the only way we can bring back success to this club is if we all work together. YNWA.

Hate to say it but City deserved the win - if it wasn't for Migs saves and a blind referee (what on earth was Moreno thinking) they would have finished us in normal time quite comfortably.
Great to see us battling to retrieve the ball late on in the game and players like Lucas and Milner giving their all. Also, glad to see the kid with a stick-on beard on their left wing miss a couple of sitters.
Good game and we showed a lot of heart but ultimately lost to a better team on the day.

the worst part of morenos "defending" is that he ca'nt even be arsed, he is not tracking back he is not offering anything going forward and worst of all he is not even being subtle about his tackling which is basically sticking out a leg long after the player and ball has gone. Nice to see muttonchops finishing has not improved one bit since he left, he still loves us after all.
