Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

29 Jan 2015 23:28:09
Rumours going around about Danny ings and loaning hum back to burnley. Why would we do that? It's needless money we will b spending. We have origi coming in the summer aswel along with players we already have. Ibe isn't going to get a look inner season which will b a big mistake I think he will b ready next season to step up to the big stage.

I hope this Ings talk is nonsense paper talk. He is value for money for some club but he will not do well at Liverpool.

If we are to get a striker he needs four things:

Pace: To keep up with the pace of our fellow attackers this is a must. (Ings is lacking the pace necessary)

Workrate: The workrate has to be put in to press and try and win the ball back (Berahino lacks this)

Ability to see a pass: This might be an odd one for a striker but its vital in our system. With so many runners in our system, the forward needs to link the play from time to time.

Know where the goal is: I'm not even going to go further into this one.

With FFP we probably cannot get what we need so it is far better to get nobody. We cannot go wasting money on Ings or any other cheapie we'll just be stuck with and can't sell.

For me there are three standouts. Get these or leave it off.

Vietto, Laccazette, Dybala

Pretty sure you just described the ideal footballer for any system.

Agree7 Disagree1

My point is Liverpool are at a stage now where we need to buy the very best available. Not more quantity. Squad is way too big.

Agree6 Disagree5

30 Jan 2015 08:05:48
Ings is hard working, pacey and scores his decent chances. He'd be a great buy, but I don't see it happening

Agree8 Disagree2

Hjikle,

He's certainly not of the pace and hard work required for LFC. And he suffers regular niggles.

He's a terrible buy and you should know this.

I'm not saying he is a bad player but he is not suited to Liverpool's style.

Since it seems to be true I think it is the final nail in the coffin that Rodgers and the transfer committee are absolutely clueless when it comes to transfers.

I mean why buy anyone if we cannot buy the top class we need now. Why waste more money. even if its 3 million it's a waste. Give the 3 mill to me. I could do with it. God the money common sense could have saved Liverpool. I suppose we will surely make the 3 mill back on him but in terms of improvement, he will only offer minor improvement to our bench. Minor improvement to our bench seems to be liverpools criteria for buying players. Utterly Utterly Utterly Useless. Hopefully changes are rung yet again in the summer in this department. Normally I think the manager should have the say on transfers but Rodgers should have no say. He simply cannot see the players that would best suit his style of football.

I know I'm rambling here but I literally cannot get over this stupidity. Monkeys could do a better job.

I'll just keep praying it doesn't come off but of course it will because he's on the list of players I don't want.

Just in case anyone representing Liverpool is visiting this page, tell FSG to "SAVE THE MONEY"

I wish I could put that in giant text.

Agree1 Disagree5

Yep. Got a lot of disagrees on Balotelli too. We'll see what happens. Bet we struggle to sell him off in a years time.

You people disagreeing got to think, someone to challenge Sturridge. Stop thinking backup. there's enough f*cking backup.

Agree0 Disagree2

You lost all credibility when you said he doesn't have the pace required for LFC.

1. Pace isn't everything, Suarez was hardly electric.
2. Ings is probably quicker than every striker we have at the club; yes even Sturridge!

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to disagree with you there EMS, Sturridge is considerably quicker than Ings and though Saurez wasnt Lightning quick, the ball stuck to him like glue and he was quick with the ball at his feet and running at full pace at defenders often was what caused problems. I just don't see that Ings has anything special, just another average striker who rodgers will look to move on after a year.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not saying I want us to sign Ings, but his lack of close control and consistent finishing is a far better basis to an argument against signing him than calling his pace and work rate into question when they are arguably his strongest assets.

I wouldn't be disappointed with Ings or Austin but they're not exactly going to take us to the next level. Sturridge may be quicker, but I bet it'd be a close race over 30-40 metres.

Very best of luck to Danny Sturridge on his return, I genuinely hope he averages a goal a game + in the run in.
Some players and people are beyond club rivalry and for my money Danny is one of them.
Excellent player and seems like a really nice lad too, best of luck to the boy

29 Jan 2015 23:20:50
It's strange because before the move to liverpool everyone was talking about how selfish and how poor of an attitude Sturridge had. I'm glad he proved everyone wrong. Top player.

Agree7 Disagree0

I am also happy with a goal a game on avarage. Say a hatrick against Arsenal and then two games without one.

Agree2 Disagree3

Nice post mate, always welcome here lol
Still wonder what would have been this season had Sanchez chosen us, quality player yous got there - think him and Sturridge woulda been great but yeah, can't wait to see Sturridge back for us

30 Jan 2015 00:41:25
You always see him saying he wants to help the team, he's at all the games he can be at, and watched us when he was in the US. It's nice to see.

Agree1 Disagree0

I'd take Daniel Sturridge hatrick against us as long as we win 4 3 :-)in fact in my ways it would my preferred result.
As said I think he's a top striker and represents himself club and country brilliantly both on and off the pitch

When I was over in Goa I gave my Liverpool shirt to one of the waiters and never once saw him wear it. I am pretty sure he sold it on. I found most of them support either us or the mancs. I watched the game when we beat Barca 2-1 at the Nou Camp at 2.45 am an the bar was pretty busy

Hi Mbrock99, I am from Goa. I visit this site everyday. I have been supporting LiverpoolFC for a just over a decade now. We do have LiverpoolFC suporters Goa Group and do have match screenings(mostly in the South-Colva beach). We do have few LFC passionate fans in Goa. It would be great to meetup and chat about our club. Kindly let me know when you are Goa - Favol Mendes

Agree0 Disagree0

ManU and chelsea have the most number of fans in Goa, due to their sucess in recent years. Last year since we very playing well I could see lot of guys poping up wearing LFC jerseys, Even though some of them were not authentic jerseys still I was happy people supporting my club. Most waiters in Restuarents in Goa are either Nepali or North Indian who don't watch football. Liverpool Jersey will be valued by a LFC fan or true football fan.

Eds,

A quick question, Bar Mike Marsh is there any other past players involved with the coaching of first team? I know a few work with the younger players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't know of any other past Liverpool players involved with coaching the first team. I am assuming you don't mean people like Corrigan and Pascoe who played but not for us.}

Richie partridge is one of the massuers if I remember rightly

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, but there was interest.}

Gutted if he has gone there, he looks the real deal, and a good head on his shoulders by all accounts, I was hoping he would be a long term replacement for Gerrard. Karl Robinson, (scouser) his manager sung his praises and I know he is in touch with various people at Liverpool, I really thought we would get him. Hope we don't rue missing out too much as I wish the kid all the best.

He is a cracking player and all the best wishes for him. We had interest along with Will Hughes.
2 players Closest to Gerrard.

Agree1 Disagree2

29 Jan 2015 20:35:46
He is good enough to be a solid squad player for any team in the league even at his current age. He is so calm and has great technique, and he is also quite a unit. If we weren't overloaded with Midfielders I think we would have tried for him. Just a shame that one of said Midfielders is Joe Allen.

Agree0 Disagree1

Pride, your right mate, he does look like he could become "the next Gerrard" hope it isn't a done deal to Newcastle and we have a go at getting him. I read him really really highly.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jan 2015 22:35:32
Joe Allen isn't a physical specimen nor the strongest lad in the world, but he doesn't half get some stick on here. Is it all really justified?

He's a lot better at protecting the ball than given credit for because 'he isn't strong enough'. He recycles play particularly well, and he isn't exactly a lazy player, he works and gets about plenty.

He doesn't fit in this system unless you leave out Hendo, which just isn't a possibility right now. But despite this, I think he gets a bit hard done by.

His game isn't at all suited to the high paced transitional play (offensively and defensively), which we currently utilise. So, sure he doesn't currently fit and I wouldn't be upset if he left, but I also wouldn't be totally against holding on to him as a squad player.

But finally to suggest that Dele Ali, is better than him, and would play for most top teams in midfield? At least try to be realistic and hide agendas. I know it's a current trend, but the constant agenda posting is becoming tiresome, it just leads to unrational arguments.

Agree1 Disagree2

Joe Allen is an appalling player, no pace, knocked off the ball easily, can't head the ball, can't tackle, can't pass the ball more than ten yards back or sideways, offers nothing going forward, can't shoot, has poor positional sense, loses 50/50's and offers absolutely nothing to the team. i'd rather try Dele Alli as he is a talented player and can only get better, Joe Allen is as good as he will ever be and that's not very good.

Agree1 Disagree3

30 Jan 2015 00:59:08
Yes personally I would take Alli in my squad over Allen, and I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of managers in England were asked, they would choose Alli. It is clear that I rate Alli highly and I believe he will go on to be a top England international so yes I would like us to have in our team. Allen doesn't offer enough to the team to justify his wages and his consistently not good enough performances justify the stick he gets. Obviously that can be said about more than just him for our current crop, but at the end of the day we signed from a team who were at the mid table, and a mid table team is where he belongs. I don't see the problem with people on a football banter website expressing their dislike of a player. It's not like it's just Allen either, the players who deserve stick get it here. That is the purpose of places like this, to vent opinions and frustration and discuss with other fans.

Agree2 Disagree1

30 Jan 2015 08:09:00
Good season in league one and it's clear he's going to be a top international, alright then. Kid looks good. He'd not get regular game time in any of the top half teams in England except maybe Soton. He'd be a waste of time for us, in an area we have plenty of young talent of our own to try. Good luck to him and Newcastle - don't bother learning your managers name kid, he won't be around long

Agree0 Disagree0

If the lad signs for Newcastle and turns out to be every bit as good as his current manager says(and having seen him he looks head and shoulders above his team mates), then if we then want to sign him it would cost a ridiculous fee, he is well worth a punt.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jan 2015 14:02:19
03beef, I don't have issues with anyone expressing opinions on players, but why can't people do it rationally? Why is it always just tunnel visioned destruction of a player? My post clearly outlined Allen may be best off moved on, yet I also stated what he offers and does well. According to everyone else he has no qualities as a pro footballer, let alone an international.

Everyone keeps pointing to poor performances, this is just scape goating, particularly seeing as until recently (he has played once since injury) we haven't been performing as a team.

Again, I'll reiterate; has qualities which could allow him to be a very good squad player for us, just unfortunately he doesn't quite fit into our style currently in a 3-4-3. Because of this, maybe best for him he moves on. He definitely gets more stick than he deserves.

Agree1 Disagree0

Sorry, but Allen is a championship player at best. Nowhere near the quality we need. He's blocking a route into the first team for Jordan Williams and Jordan Rossiter if he is only a squad player. Allennever had an effective game for us since signing and is a complete waste of £15m.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Big E.
It is easy to say "Allen" an awful footballer championship at best". than to say why they don't like him in sensible terms.
I would state this. Allen is a better footballer than everyone who reads this site except for me.
And if he wants to test me.
I'll pass on my details to the eds. Let Allen get in touch and we'll sort a 5 a side out at Kirkby sports centre.

A bit of positivity here.

Henderson is looking much more comfortable in the central midfield role and is starting to dictate play much better. He has a lot to improve upon if he is going to get to the level of Fabregas or Yaya who make on average over 80 passes per game, but he is looking much more comfortable lately especially alongside a solid defensive midfielder.

Emre Can has proven his quality in defence, showing strength, intelligence and confidence. Which ever position he ends up playing in the long term, I think we can all see his world class potential.

Skrtel has been top class lately. We know he can have lapses in concentration and likes a good wrestle, but he seems to be sorting his act out now and is looking like the top centre back we know he can be.

Lucas is arguably the player who has made the difference since his return to the first team. He has found the form he showed before his injury problems and has become a very important player for us again. I just hope he is over his injury problems and can have a long run in the team, because he is vital in his role of protecting our defence.

Mignolet has also improved a lot lately. It seems he has given up on trying to be a top class goalkeeper (trying to make difficult passes out wide and playing dangerously at the back) and has gone back to basics. I feel much safer now he just clears his lines and gets the ball up the pitch. If he continues to concentrate on what he is good at and stops trying to be the goalkeeper he's not, then he could do well for us.

Lallana has been one of our better players this season and has shown his creativity and work rate. I love the way the ball sticks to his feet and his intelligence on the ball. He will be a top player for us over the next few years.

Coutinho always looks like the player who can make things happen, he will be a top player for many years, there's no doubting that, but he needs to concentrate more on keeping possession and looking for passes instead of running into trouble. His shooting is looking much better lately though.

Sterling, like Coutinho, is going to be a top player for us, but he too needs to get his head up more and start looking for the pass. I'm sure this will come in time, and despite that aspect of his game he always looks a threat. Hopefully with Sturridge back he can get more into a deeper role where he can have more influence on the game.

Gerrard is looking more like the Gerrard we know now he's playing in a less demanding role. I'm still not convinced he should be playing the full 90 minutes of matches but for me he is playing much better.

Sakho is proving to be a big presence at the back. I love his passing ability and his confidence, but as we know he is prone to the odd error or 2 which can be very risky. He needs to stay switched on for the full 90 minutes and he can be a top defender for us for a long time.

Markovic is starting to show why the club payed so much for him. He has pace, skill and has shown his quality on the ball. He is still young, but we can see he has world class potential. Hopefully he will become a top player for us.

Moreno looks more suited to this system and I have been impressed with his offensive threat. If he can improve his game defensively, he will be a top class fullback.

Also, credit to Rodgers for finding a system that suits the players he has had available. There is nothing wrong with the 433 system he likes to play, but if you don't have the players to play that system you need to find an alternative, and he deserves the credit for that. With Sturridge nearing a return, we will have that quality up top to get goals. If he can stay fit for the rest of the season, I am sure we can finish the season on a high.

Red Rum

Believable18 Unbelievable2

Agree with a lot of that Red-Rum, things are looking a lot more positive recently, hopefully it can continue.

I think it takes time for new players to settle at massive clubs like Liverpool and Utd, especially when they're just kids. A lot just crumble and fade away, this lot look promising.

Hopefully next season our starting eleven will be virtually established and won't require a massive overhaul, this should enable us to hit the ground running.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Origi, aswell. I feel that he can be an immense player in the Prem, he's got all the attributes you need, has played in a world cup, and is having to grow up fast over in France at the moment.

Agree5 Disagree0

Good post Red Rum.
Lallana for me needs to stay fit.
Not his fault on the injury front but I am worried he might be a bit like Sturridge in that sense.

Nice post mate, One of the two reason you play 3 at the back is to utilize your Wing backs.

Markovic is much more than just a WB.

30 Jan 2015 08:12:05
Great post Red-Rum, but disagree about Skrtel. Between Sakho and Can he gets kept in line. As soon as one of them leave, he goes back to his own little world.

Pride - don't quite get your point about Markovic. He's tackling well and getting in great positions running from deep and carrying the ball out of defense. What's 'just' about that? If anything he's probably doing better than he would as a winger or wide forward because he gets a running start at the defenders and gets to show his pace! Just because a position isn't the flashiest in the world doesn't mean anyone is too good for it

It would be interesting to see what a tony pulis type manager would do to a squad like Liverpool's. He seems to get his teams playing and punching above their weight. It would be interesting to see a manager like that manage a big club with world class players.

Believable4 Unbelievable14

Yes it would, but not ours thanks. I'll stick to supporting the style the existing manager had us playing last year and we are seeing a lot more of again now. Give Studge a few games back and we'll be at a much better level.

Agree6 Disagree0

29 Jan 2015 14:18:54
We shouldn't be in a 'punching above our weight' position. We believe we are a top four team - therefore we should only be buying players that play to that level, only hiring coaches that coach to that level and only have a manger who accepts nothing less than that level.

It's an experiment that get's tried quite often with players and managers and very rarely works:

X player/manager, with Y support/resources, did Z

Therefore is X player/manager was given Y+ resources, surely they would get Z+ results!

Unfortunately doesn't work often. Some managers just find their level and their neiche. Harry Redknapp is probably the best example - specialist at avoiding relegation so given spurs on the assumption that he's use that same ability with a much better squad to push at the top. But all he really did, as he did with the relegation threatened teams, was keep them around where they should be

What I've learnt about Brendan Rodgers.

- He is Irish, not Scottish
- He was once a van driver for Waitrose
- He shares his birthday with Jose Mourinho
- Is partial to a bit of 'cosmetic enhancement'
- can't be trusted with great sums of money
- Can be trusted to make a person out of himself through the media
- His favourite two words are technical and ability
- He is very good at evening out his San Tropez
- He is a excellent coach/trainer
- But not such a great manager
- He surrounds himself by yes men
- He strives on authority
- Heard he's a fan of De La Soul
- De La Soul isn't a South American footballer by the way (for those too young)

Have a bit of respect; I know he is not everyone's cup of tea (I cringe when he makes stupidity remarks in interviews as well), but he is young and only going to improve. This season still has a lot to play for, put on the performance like we did against chelski in the two legs then we have a good chance in both top 4 and the FA cup.

He went from Genius to mentally challenged in the space of 2 months with most people on here ! if that is not fickle people need a dictionary to understand the definition. I am behind him until the season is over. people forget we still have like haf the season to play and a top 4 finish will make it almost impossible to sack him. And NOO he didn't spend over £ 100 m, our net spend is like 50 M € in transfer fees. Turn it around and put it how you want it, it is IMPOSSIBLE to spend over 100 million because he needed to sell for like 90 million first. So the money spent came from somewhere. So its the NET SPEND that matters.

maybe it is not relevant for this post and i appologise for that but is very relevant when they are thinking about replacing him believe me. Looking for your opinions on our coaching (coaches and their tactics).
1. Why in nearly three years can we still not defend on set pieces no matter which selection of defenders we put out.
2. Why do we (especially our defenders) look so poor at attacking the ball when we have a set piece.
3. Why is Sterlings and Coutinhos shooting so so poor. Please let's not do the "he's only 20 years old" thing again. They are long enough with the first team that they should be improving this critical activity.
4. Why is our goalkeeper so poor at distributing the ball (a great shot stopper but there's more to go than just that).

I'm just interested in people's opinions of whether we don't have the quality of players, or quality of coaches, or is it our coaching methods or is it something else.
Thanks.

1. Why in nearly three years can we still not defend on set pieces no matter which selection of defenders we put out.

A combination of the wrong players being out there and poor training.

2. Why do we (especially our defenders) look so poor at attacking the ball when we have a set piece.

In attack - considering the numbers we scored from set plays (and not just directly) last season, I'd actually be looking at the deteriorating quality of the balls in. If you meant whilst defending, you've just asked the same question twice

3. Why is Sterlings and Coutinhos shooting so so poor. Please let's not do the "he's only 20 years old" thing again. They are long enough with the first team that they should be improving this critical activity.

Because neither of them are strikers or natural finishers, and being in a team whilst developing so far with 2 exceptional finishers in front of them has meant that they had other much more important priorities to work on such as positional sense, passing, holding the ball under pressure, dropping in perfectly weighted through balls etc. The fact that Sturridge has been injured and Suarez hasn't been replaced in the past 4 months doesn't mean these two should suddenly become something that they aren't - the longer we're without depth up front, the more they'll work on it but for their day to day specialist training it won't have been the top priority at any point so far. So you might not like the fact that the reason is they are young but it's the truth - they are young, they haven't had time to work on every one of their weaknesses and so the other that was the biggest strength of the squad at large until recently will not have been a priority.

4. Why is our goalkeeper so poor at distributing the ball (a great shot stopper but there's more to go than just that).

Partly bad coaching, but he was never great and never will be. The better question is why don't we make ourselves more available in less risky areas when he's trying? Does every ball need to be a perfectly weighted one to someone on the line, on to a CB being closed down by 3 players with no room for error?

Agree5 Disagree11

Thanks Hijackle, point 2 was when we have a corner or a free kick, I watch how aggressive Terry, Cahill, Ivanovic are but don't see the same when our guys are in the oppositions box. Skertle and Sakho are real big guys but don't seem to attack the oppositions goal in the way that other CB's do. Maybe it's an art that is starting to disappear from the modern game.

As for Couts and Sterling I still think that their finishing is below par for players of their quality regardless of whether we had good strikers last season but again that's just my opinion.

1. We have been defending much better latley conceding 8 in the last 11.

2. We scored the most from set pieces last season so its a pointless point. its rather the deliveries of Gerrard that has been very weak this season. He was the assist leader because of his set pieces last season but this season that is not the case.

3. Why should we not have he is 20? what is he 30 in disguise? He is 20 and the other is 22 and they have immense pressure on their shoulders. Just cast your memory back to the pre season game vs City where sterling scored 2 world class finishes you haven't seen before or since. Why? because it was a friendly, no pressure! He is carrying this club and is the top scorer if you take away Gerrards penalties. Once others more experienced around them and in form the presurre on them will be less and they will score more. Specially as the coaching staff has been giving both coutinho and sterling extra finishing sessions.

4. Anyone who critisizes mignolet of late needs to give there head a wobble. he has been excellent in the last 5 games and not only his shot stopping but also his command of the area has been very good compared to before and he has been improving his handling as well so he flaps a lot less. his kicking is weak but that is a weak argument to judge a GK by anyways. Pass pass pass is nonsense and has got us no where so i don't mind him kicking it in the stands under pressure instead of inviting more pressure.

As i said your post was a moan about nothing. and it doesn't worry me one bit because i have serious worries. LOL

Red if you think this seasons football as a whole, the managers mouthing to the press and the lack of passion in players like Balotelli is acceptable then that's fine for you, I personally don't accept where we are in the league regardless of the half a season left to play especially when we went out of the champions league with nothing but a whimper and by playing most of the games without a proper striker, we also took so long to get back in it i don't see how Rodgers could then say we weren't going to challenge this season on any front when he had the funds and chance to put us in a stronger position after Luis left and make us more than capable of at least having a go, If your happy that's fine, me, and lots like me are fed up of the constant players bought to go out on loan never to be seen again, the non playing of promising youth who go on loan never to be seen again when to be quite frank a lot of them are better than the players we've signed to play in their respective positions, and the always signing players with so called promise instead of the one or two world class additions that would make all the difference, the clubs a shambles let's not sugar coat the whole thing due to a small handful of performances lately that to be fair weren't actually that good, goals make results, and good defending helps too, we have neither end of

In regard to the defensive problems.
Every formation has it's plus and minus points.
The key to it is to work out what the weakness's are for a particular formation and work on them in training.
It means that you know what the opposition are going to try to do in terms of stopping you and that in turn gives a better understanding of the formation to the players because they know the weak points.

Eds could you explain what is wrong with liverpool football club according to your opinion? is it all just bad management since 1992? seems like we have always had one/two great players and average/below average squad for the past two decades. we hardly have anybody stepping up from academy or scout great talents. is this generally because of the fall of quality players in great britain, nations like ireland, scotland ?

Believable5 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it is poor management at the highest level, above managers, that has seen us fall behind badly. That has handicapped managers. Gillett & Hicks tried to rectify the issue but ran out of money, now FSG are trying to bring us up alongside the competition.}

Agreed Ed001.

I wondered why they employed Rodgers ?

Hey everyone,

Was just thinking of our striking problems, and was wondering, how many of you would take Chicharito? I know the odds are about the same as Ed002 revealing his/her identity to us all, (besides the alias that is Batman), but I just thought I'd get your opinions. I think he's better than Borini and Lambert and would suit a pressing game. But, what do I know?

Believable0 Unbelievable3

Chicharito brings work rate, pace and finishing but he severely lacks in build up and hold up play and his passing is below par.

Hi ed01 can I ask how the club deals with the problem they face with ballotelli and others like him in the past. By this I mean it's been made obvious the club want rid of him and he would like out of the club. The problem is no one is willing to pay what we want. So at what stage do the club decide to take the best available offer on the table. I presume it will run until the summer. We will almost certainly not get our money back on him and the fact we have him on highish wages and is not contributing to the team and possibly blocking either a young player or a new player to come in makes little sense. Is there a bit of pride involved with not wanting to be seen to have made a mistake or a bit like poker where your hoping a club will get desperate and offer a ridiculous amount. The moment he signed my feeling immediately was if he doesn't perform we are going to be stuck with him due to the costs involved. Let's not forget his super agent will be looking for a payday out of his next move too. Not asking to discuss actual amounts just wanted your opinions. Btw would love us to have however negotiates Chelsea's deals. Some of the fees they have received for players they were prepared to offload has been phenonamal and I wouldn't bet against them making a profit on Shurrle and Sarah despite them hardly playing

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - technically, unless he agrees to tear up his contract for reduced terms, we have to pay up his contract, so it becomes a poker match. We are looking for someone to reduce that huge cost.}

28 Jan 2015 19:24:18
