Daily Mail

Uruguayan Olympian Gaston Ramirez is moving closer to a move to Liverpool after his agent admitted he was in talks with a Premier League club.

New Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to bolster his attacking options and the 21-year-old - who scored a sublime free-kick as Uruguay beat the United Arab Emirates 2-1 on Thursday - fits the bill perfectly.

Ramirez, who is rated at £20million by his club Bologna, has enjoyed two successful seasons in Serie A after leaving Penarol in his homeland in 2010.

I don't know if it's just bs but if gaitan and Ramirez was snapped up I'd be happy with that. People will still moan though

People are moaning because it's been mainly bad news. Kuyt, maxi, aurelio, aqualani have all been sold. Borini is the only player that's come in. Carroll and bellamy look set to leave. Getting offers from big clubs for all our best players. Suso goes straight back to the reserves after showing some great potential. Adam and spearing are still Liverpool player. It's pretty much been bad news. I stay optimistic because the season hasn't started and there's still a month left of transfers.

Ed002 - interesting note from Macca. Can you elaborate further on the major signing we might bring in on loan. Maybe position which I would guess is a striker or even nationality? My guess is Alonso or Higuan? Interested in your views. Cheers Nick {Ed002's Note - I really know nothing of it - I have posted already on those mentioned. I said I would try and find out.}

Liverpool should be pushing for champions league with their squad

Man city, Chelsea, man united, spurs all have better squads than us at the moment. I normally don't say this but Liverpool really do need some quality signings. I see us finishing 5th at best at the moment

Spurs have a coach who'se tactics didn't fit the premier league. we have a better squad than everton.
derryred

We have a better squad than Utd, a better squad than spuds too. BR will get the best out of them, then i hope all the negative moaning ginny anne take themselves off

Genuine question from an ignorant fan:

What more does Allen offer than Lucas? They certainly play in a similar position, so is it Allen's passing that metronome rhythm that keeps the ball moving the thing that sets them apart?

Is this partnership going to be similar to Alonso and Masch?

YNWA

No because Allen's passing comes from short passes not long penetrating ones like Alonso makes

I agree, saw the game tonight and thought he looks very safe and secure but so does Lucas, we do need someone that can give that killer ball on occasions. Gav

Gerrard, lucas, allen in a midfield 3 seems good to me?
Ruben

I think shelvey can match joe allen in most departments with probably a better shot on him so why splash the cash

You answered your own question dude

I've watched joe Allen these last two gb Olympic games, yeah, he can pass a ball, but that's not enough, he won't create anything, and at 15m , he's about 10m overpriced, shelvey's a better player and a better prospect for the future, the money would be better spent on offensive players, Allen doesn't offer anything different to what we already have.

They don't play in a very similar position. Have you got that notion from watching the Olympics? Allen isn't really a defensive midfielder, he's just played there by Pearce because GB don't have any.

Red Ollie

Not sure that Allen has anything over Lucas. The main worry is that he'll stop Shelvey's development who I think will develop into a class player

They are quite similiar, which is not a bad thing at all. Allen has more pace and is nearly as good as Lucas at tackling. Both players have not reached their full potential and it makes the Allen and Lucas partnership a very exciting prospect. They have the ability to control almost every game. They give the 4 players ahead of them a constant supply of possession whilst providing the 4 players behind them with a very good shield indeed due to their tackling abilities, shielding of the ball and 90% plus passing accuracy.

I don't think that Allen and Lucas would compete for a place in the starting XI. I think they and Gerrard would make up our 3 midfields in a 4-3-3. I also think that Allen would probably take up a more advanced role than Lucas, with Gerrard taking up a similar position to one or the other.

Red Head

Neither Lucas ot Allen are any type of Alonso

Lucas is a better footballer than allen

In order to play the kind of football that Rodgers is looking for it calls for consistent pressing of the opponent in order to get the ball back. If you watch Barca you will see that when they don't have the ball there can be an average of 3 players trying to surround the opposition, close down the space and retain the ball. Allen and Lucas would be sharing the same responsibilities but one may sit back as the other presses higher for ball retention.
This is only my opinion but as much as people get caught up with the tiki-taka passing game, it is pressing the opponent and having enough players around for a short safe pass in order to retain possesion and build attacks from that.
Again only my opinion but I would guess that Lucas/Gerrard/Allen or Lucas/Gerrard/Henderson are the options. Adam is slow and a poor tackler, Aquilani is also weak in the tackle and Shelvey is the possible replacement for any of the Lucas/Gerrard/Henderson/Allen trio.
McB

Allen started as a right winger then moved to cm. He only recently moved back into a def mid position to accommodate Sigurdsson.

To explain better i would compare to the barca model and their players -in no way am i saying they are the same or as good as barcas but will instead try to copy the roles these players take up.

In my opinion Lucas will be def mid (Busquets) Allen will be the man to control tempo and keep the ball going (Xavi) and Gerrard will be the attacking driving force to take on defenders and play killer passes (Ineista).

I do agree that Shelvey can also play Allen's role. However with Europa league we may play 60 odd games. For Rodgers system to work and be rotated comfortable we need to have 6 centre midfielders. So Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Shelvey, Hendo and one of the other fringe players will fill theses spots.

To Summarize this essay i've written id say Allen would be a welcome addition to the squad and offer a different dimension to Lucas. With the benefit of being able to drop back and fill in for Lucas if needed.

K-Man
Just out of curiosity does any eds agree or disagree?

Surely we need two similar players in each position? Lucas' injury last season scuppered our chances so Allen can play instead of, or with, Leiva.
6 central midfielders of which 3 will most likely be employed per game - Gerrard, Hendo, Shelvey, Allen, Lucas and one out Spearing or Adam

I haven't seen Allen play any long balls or even ones that cut through a defence, like alonso did. Only players we have that can play any sort of those passes (inferior to alonso) are Adam and aqualani and we just sold aqualani who passed the ball alot better than Adam. A month left time is ticking

Alonso is world class lucas maybe one day and allen well haven't seen enough to really judge him looks decent but not in xabi's class

RED KENNY

That Allen. All he does is get the ball and pass it to a teammate. It'll never catch on that type of garbage. Can you imagine the World and European champions picking players that didnt beat a man and just passed it simply to each other?

Eds any idea who we are looking at on loan?

Thanks {Ed002's Note - See earlier answers.}

Eds,
what actually is the point in Lebron James being part-owner of LFC?
Does he make profit with this investment or why is he doing this?
Couldn't he give a few of his millions away to fund a transfer?

Cheers

Phil F {Ed002's Note - He traded a tiny amount of ownership for representation by FSG - he will not be funding transfers. It is simply part of his investment portfolio.}

Basically means he has been given shares

29 Jul 2012 21:21:04
Thinking about what Macca has just posted there is only two club with enough stars who can afford to loan them out, city (dezko) and real (higuain), don't think there are to many more options

Higuain wont be loaned not a chance!

Mike S

Who else could it be then

Kaka or sahin could be

I personally think Kaka been injured needs to be playing.

Mike S

Why not Affelay or Tello? Kaka doesnt make sense

cozinoz

Well Barca, Madrid and Man city immediately spring to mind. Now we will be looking for a winger or forward so who is surplus at them clubs, however they must also be big stars already; affellay(spelling), villa (if barca sign another striker) or adriano maybe. i only see us getting a madrid attacker if again another striker is bought for them; could be callejon(spelling), higuinor or di maria(wishful thinking on higuin and di maria could become surplus) now mancity could give us adebayor, dzeko or balotelli although i think it highly unlikely that is man city will loan us one of their players unless they want one of ours. im really just pulling names out of the sky.

Now team GB are winning and uraguay lost watch some people come out with we HAVE to get joe allen, we dont need ramirez, lol, wait until the next game, if GB lose and uraguay win it will be a total reverse, lol, football fans fickle as anything

Not really I'm sure more people would prefer Ramirez to joe Allen. Both would be pretty good but let's face it, Ramirez is a game changer and Allen definitely isn't.

One is a defensive midfielder, the other attacking mid. Let's get them both.

29 Jul 2012 21:20:59
What is with people? They bang on about signing Ramirez without actually seeing him play, an now people don't want him because he had one bad game - in an international! Damn if Messi was judged by his performances for Argentina no one would want him! At the same time, a decent vid on YouTube isn't good enough to decide a player is great!

What about Suarez? If people judged him on his olympic performances so far how wrong would they be about his ability?

I think we will see someone sign for us this week. The possible players I have put below and ask you which one do you think is most likely.

1. Star loaning signing as we know Macca has said a star player on loan is possible. Everyone has been guessing who this could be and there is a few. Whether it be Tevez, Kaka, Pato, Alonso or Higuian.
Personally I think it's Kaka and I would think if it was there would be a very good chance this could be concluded this week. 80%

2. G. Ramirez. We know all about the press reports, radio and agent talk on us be interested, but as yet nothing has been confirmed as concrete. I doubt if we do sign him it will be this week, but I hope we eventually do. 50%.

3. N. Gaitan. We have also heard the reports on this player over the weekend too. It's quite possible we have made a bid due to benficas financial problems. At the price reported it would be a great deal for us. I would give this one an 75% chance of coming this week.

4. J. Allen. I think with the rumours of a star loan signings a lot of us have in mind it's a central midfielder. Due to this I think we have walked away from any deal for Allen due to the price quoted. 40%.

Would be interested to see who other people think is likely to be our next signing will be? I know people might not agree with it being this week that's just my opinion.

Jonesred

That's just guesswork, there's not much to say about it really. Just support whoever does come in, and don't worry too much about whether it's this week or in a month's time

Gaston Ramirez closing on Liverpool for £15 million. Two clubs in talk for Nicolas Gaitan. Would love to see both of them playing together alongside Steven Gerrard....YNWA...!!

29 Jul 2012 21:14:39
How about we buy the UAE olympic team and just improve their defending a bit.

How about Honduras instead

Because UAE need the money dont they

Just number 15 will do

29 Jul 2012 21:14:35
kaka will be our loan signing watch this space

Ka'ka does not play this tiky-taky nonsense. He is Brasilian. He plays football.

Nelsinho

29 Jul 2012 21:11:40
If Skrtel doesn't sign a new contract he'll be sold and I'm told by a journalist (who's often quoted on this site) that we could move for Udinese's Mehdi Benatia to replace him. Don't know too much about him myself but it seems most of the Premier League big boys have been tracking him.

Who do u want to shown the door from our beloved team?
My vote goes to:

Wee jay spearing
Eccelston
Wilson
Adam
Aquilani
Cole
Downing

I think if we want to be a top team again..we have to get rid
Of these guys..sorry..too average or too lazy .

Who do u think deserves the axe?

Think wilson needs a chance!

Downing will stay as he should the only thing missing last year was his finishing

I would give downing a chance and add to that list Bellamy hes too old...
Ruben

I would put all at LFC on the list except Gerrard especially Tom & John

Only thing missing was his finishing!! Are you having a laugh, a winger should have assists - how many did he have?

29 Jul 2012 20:58:09
I need a favour. I'm not on twitter. Could someone who is post that we are interested in Neymar? Just so as I can laugh at spurs tomorrow....

BigBadBen

Me neither but i think AVB follows most liverpool fans

29 Jul 2012 20:53:42
Don't know what all the hype is with Allen. Watching team GB and he is nout special. Leave the midfield and concentrate on someone who can score goals

29 Jul 2012 20:51:19
According to the Talk-Sport Liverpool are looking to bring in Ricardo Kaka of Real Madrid on loan

They haven't said that..

29 Jul 2012 20:45:36
won't be higuain or bezema they want cash for replacments

might be kaka or pato

29 Jul 2012 20:33:45
Alright guys! Great site! Just wondering what you thought of that Mane who looked really good for the Senegal Olympic team against GB the other night! Looked a really lively young player with some nice touches! Cheers, JD.

Kaka on his way to Liverpool, lucas had a word in his ear

29 Jul 2012 20:15:40
I like the look of Andre wisdom And sama they both look good . But watching Coates does anyone think Danny Wilson looks like a really good back up to the usual centre halves . He doesn't seem to lose the ball and does everything simple plus he seems like he has pace and can pass . Just wanted to know what you all thought .

Cheers

Jamesy

I would rather have coates to be honest.

Was really hopeful for Wilson after his performances in Scotland and at such a young age. He really looked like a rock at times, I think he was even vote POTY in his breakthrough season to the first team. Shame he really hasnt progrssed with us, would much rather have him than Carragher (I know I'll get slated for that!) on the bench or covering for injuries

This thing that liverpool does in trying to psych the youth into working harder buy publicly stating so and so isn't ready and so on is the reason that they don't make it.

What they do is make them think that they aren't good enough or that the will never get a chance. i feel sorry for them.

Yeah, you're never going to make it if you work harder, eh?

cozinoz

29 Jul 2012 19:59:10
I hope we don't sign Ramirez, he's clearly a very technical player, but he is to slow, he doesn't press quickly or work hard enough and he likes his Hollywood long balls. He's basically a much better Charlie Adam, he's a good player but very anti tiki taka, he won't fit our style. Allen is a much better buy.

And you've learnt all this from on e bad game today when the whole team played poor,

so really if we were linked with suarez after watching today theres no way you'd want him,

or say the apparently 100 million euro rated cavani, after todays performance, you'd not want him either,

Why all of a sudden are people on here master sscouts after watching maybe one or two matches, or maybe it's those expert 3 minute compilation youtube clips,

sad !

I think nico gaitan would be a much better buy

Ramirez>allen

Um no I watch serie a as well lol, it wasn't a conclusion I drew off 1 game at all, at no point in my post did I say after watching the one game Ramirez played today......

who agrees with me on this....

In my mind I've seen soo much of Suso and Sterling that to me they are already first team players. They might not be this season but they WILL be INSPIRATIONAL for LFC and they will make the path for those behind them much easier.

Haych

You are putting too much pressure on too young shoulders

They are not first teamers yet, could you really say you could rely on them to play 90 mins every week and perform? Both still have plenty of learning to do. The good thing is that the talent is there but doesn't mean they are necessarily 1st teamers already...

You obviously haven't seen that much of them, if you did you would realise they aren't ready yet, yes they can be good but it's a massive step up from reserves to 1st team, the thing that worries me most is the physical nature of the PL, suso would be the best bet to cope with that, he has the skill to trick players, sterling has pace but as of yet not much else, I watched the games and say suso could make the step up to the bench and maybe make an impact late on in games but as for sterling I thought he didn't look that impressive, ok running at one player but when teams doubled up he was lost, just my honest opinion

Ok maybe some of you took a glimpse what i wrote and decided half way through that you were going to right a report on how i should know they aren't ready yet.....read my post again and see that I said "they might not be this season" so i do recognize that they aren't ready, i'm just saying from what i've seen of them they are first teamers (which if you need me to spell it out for you means, in my opinion they will be on day with certainty).

It was a positive thought that crossed my mind and so I thought I'd share it but I guess all everyone wants to do is discredit someone's opinion and/or information. it's sad really

Haych

Don't be so sensitive, Haych :)

29 Jul 2012 19:47:18
the squad is back and BR has had a good look at the fringe players. i expect a few outs from the midfield.

adam - cant tackle hence he cant be played as a holding mid. he is very slow so cant be played in an advanced position. with henderson, shelvey looking sharper he is surplus.

aquilani - doesnt try hard enough. doesnt try to win back the ball. also doesnt want to be here. sell him or even loan him to anyone willing to pay his entire wages. we dont want anyone sulking.

joe cole - he has should good attitude since coming back. i hope he is given a chance. but wages are too high for someone coming off the bench. he has to be given a more central role (CAM) as he tends to go missing while playing out wide. tough decision for BR.

spearing - he works hard, credit where its due. but he makes quite a few mistakes in the entire 90 min. poor passing and forward movement but can anchor the midfield when lucas is not playing. sell if a replacement can be found.

i think a attacking midfielder with a few goals in him is all that is needed now. is joe allen that kind of player? if we do sign him i would like to see shelvey go on a season long loan. no point in him being wasted on the bench when he can get valuable experience elsewhere.

oldmonk

I'm guessing you used the search function to get a summery on Aquilani.....

Haych

None of those 4 players are good enough for Liverpool. Lucas, Gerrard, Shelvey and Hendo are way better

Is it possible that our loan signing cud be the real Madrid player sahin.... After all those rumours have been doin the rounds that he's being loaned out to premier league for a season...

'Major Star' ? Doubt Sahin. To be honest, I have no idea, but if it's major, kaka would come to mind. Yeah, I know it's extremely unlikely and i don't think for a second it'll happen, but he's been linked to both a loan move and liverpool..

To be fair Sahin is a star that is being wasted at Madrid.
Anyone that seen him play at Dortmund will surely agree that his talents is undoubted.
I would certainly be happy if he came to Liverpool.

29 Jul 2012 19:22:11
Last season we were short of atleast 2 players a striker and a winger but till now we have added only Borini with Kuyt and Maxi departing.
Nothing against Rodgers, he has been absolutely wonderful since the day he joined but just worried that with a lot of more games to play this season our squad depth is not looking that good.
No doubt the youngsters were gr8 but it will be better to let them develop into better players by sending them on loan deals.

September 1st is it? transfer window closed is it? haven't they just had nearly 2 weeks in the USA? seems difficult to sort out transfers from there no?

to say were linked with allen, dempsey, walcott, and this potential loan star, nothing at all has been sorted or said whilst they were in the USA, mystery or what, expect things to pick up now there back with ins and outs

29 Jul 2012 18:53:53
Suarez Coates and Ramirez were absolutely brutal today, Coates just hoofed the ball forward anytime he could and was shocking when defending. Suarez was obviously effected by all the booing and you could see he was angry and frustrated. He's in for a tough time next season if he stays with us. Ramirez was just brutal, simple as that. He seems like a hot head aswell.

Who cares?! What's important is how they play for us when their back.

Chill out with the moaning already.

Sorry, could someone clarify the use of the word 'brutal' in this context? To scandinavians, fans of Metal, martin skrtel and MMA commentators, the word 'brutal' only has positive connotations, so saying 'Ramirez was just brutal' makes him sound awesome!

Have to agree with you. Frankly I think Suarez is occasionally capable of being brilliant, but more often than not is very wasteful. If I were the Uruguay coach, I would move Cavani to the middle and put Suarez on the right...

No good explanation for Ramirez because tbh he wasn't that bad. The whole uruguay team didn't play well not just those three. I bet your the same person that keeps on saying Ramirez isn't good enough but Allen is. Stick to your armchair mate

Vargas to cover LB, Gaitan instead of dempsey as Fulham dont want anything below £12 mil. The loan deal I have no idea about, could be Tevez ...

Fulham want over 12 million quid for a 29 year old dempsey in the last year of his contract? what last shower of rain did you come down with ? haha

29 Jul 2012 19:10:24
Ronaldiniho is the loan player
DV>>D

Isnt ronaldinho a free agent eds if so he cant be loaned

Macca, is this loan signing likely to goto the wire or is it quite close to completion?

I suspect Macca is talking about ALEXANDRE PATO. AC Milan keen to free up space in their squad and his contract expires in 2014 so the loan with option to buy scenario would be attractive as his current value is less than they paid for him (sound familiar?)

PieInTheSkyMan

My guess on a Macca's "major loan signing" would be between two Brazilians.
Firstly, Pato with a potential swap loan deal between him and Carroll - very possible as Carroll is clearly not part of Rodgers plans here and Milan are looking for a big, strong centre forward after the loss of Ibrahimovic. Adding to that, Pato has struggled in recent seasons in Milan through form and injuries so he would love fresh start and with Lucas already here persuading him to make the move to Anfield may be slightly easier. My second guess would be Kaka, not only because of the friendship between Rodgers and Mourinho but also Kaka still has a few years left at the top level but right now he's currently just getting old on the Madrid bench.
Both would be incredible signings but I believe both are very possible and would give our attack a much needed reputation and boldness to scare our opponents - something we've severely lacked since Torres' departure.

Chris
YNWA

Thought Carroll wanted to stay in England .

A Friend close to Dave Fallows, say we are scouting a DM/Attacking CB in Italy, contract with Agent & progressing well.

An attacking centre back?

RedSG

Does anyone know any good cdm or attacking center backs in Italy?

An attacking centre back wtf... does that make Ian Rush a defensive centre forward? lol

De rossi perhaps? That the only player who fits that description that I can think of.

Brisc93

New position in Rodgers' 180 page manifesto? Perhaps this is a role Sktrel was trying out for yesterday?

(kidding)

RDL

People are questioning the use of the term 'attacking CB'. how can you not understand how defender can be good in attack when we support a team with Dan Agger??

It's not an attacking CB though is it lol it's a footballing CB!

Just posted the name Mehdi Benatia in rumours (Udinese player). A tip from a journo with decent links to LFC. Could be the ball-playing centre half you refer too.

PieInTheSkyMan

I have no idea who the OP could be on about, but to the poster who asked about good cdm in Italy - Vidal of Juventus? Not sure if he is an attackin centre back kind of person, but he's a pretty good cdm.

Yikes! Uruguay looks really quite ordinary at the moments. Down 2 goals against 10 men with Suarez, Coates, Ramirez and Cavani in their side...

Time to offer 2m for Cavani then

cozinoz

29 Jul 2012 18:37:27
If all the LFC fans wanting ramirez are watching the match..you can see that he defensively very poor and can get frustrated at times..missed a penalty and gave away a goal. poor game for the lad

He does know how 2 take a free kick tho- someting we lack in a lot of our players

Well we have defenders to defend

It was a poor game for cavani and suarez too, plus Ramirez had the best chances.
By that knowledge your saying you wouldn't want cavani...

Yea, i wasn't too impressed with him today to be honest. No doubt he has the ability, but i would be concerned about his pace and defending, although to be fair he isn't a defensive player.......time will tell, still better than Spearing though!

Big Red Mac

Gerrards one of the best in emgland at taking set pieces, downing qnd adam seem to take over.

He's playing cm when he is normally a traditional number 10.

Ramirez didn't give away a goal and he never took a penalty. Specsavers exists for people like you, check them out.

29 Jul 2012 18:34:26
Jay spearing is awful.....nowhere near good enough for our club...... get what we can for him n put the money towards a better player......spearing has no vision what so ever, never plays a killer pass and gets caught in possession alot, he puts the effort in but I'm sorry spearing should be playing for someone like Blackburn.....get rid asap

Andy k

Yes he isnt good enough but you must have seen (even pre season) that he is better when not standing next to Charlie Adam

Nice comments about a lad thats LFC though and through I agree he may not be good enough to moe Liverpool forward but no need to slag the lad off!

YNWA jns

Swap for Danny Murphy?

Totally agree, runs around a lot but has zero quality. Constantly getting caught in possession. Get him off the books!

So because he's liverpool through and through he doesn't deserve to have the truth told about him?

i dont think so, without charlie adam stood next to him he looks even more lost, he's absolutely rubbish, his passing woeful if it requires more than a 5 yeard ball, his tackling always erratic and dangerous and he needs to leave or get back in the ressi's !

Hes better off selling sausages in the asda,he could do the chosen by you ads justice.

29 Jul 2012 18:21:54
After watching cavani, play tonight, I'm not sure he'd be good enough for the premier league, I like the look abel hernandez, looked a talent :-)

29 Jul 2012 18:19:51
am i the only one that doesnt rate cavani that highly?

Agreed , he plays well in a poor league, hence the number of goals he scores. He was useless in the champions league and doesn't score that many for Uruguay either

Yes you are

No, he's another that lives of reputation, he's very good but nowhere near as good as some people think and NEVER worth the reported 100 million Euros

MR EM

No you are not

What the hell has cavani got to do with this site we've got absolutely no chance of getting him, christ almighty we do get deluded at times

Didnt say anything about wanting him at anfield because he would be worse than sean dundee. deffo not we need at this club. especially when we have adam morgan coming through

the thing is i just think hes over-rated. i could name at least 20 strikers that i believe are better than him. so i find it dumbfounding that so many people cream over him

Imo, Cavani is the best ST in the world atm

To above poster cavani is over rated by fans and media in my opinion higuan is best strike imo and I regular watch italian and spanish league

29 Jul 2012 18:19:41
I can understand Suarez getting booed at Old trafford, But why is he getting so much hatred at Wembley today? I doubt he will stay with us much longer if this keeps up

Did you watch our games on mute last season? He gets booed everywhere he goes..

Most mancs are from London mate so that is probably why.

He gets booed wherever... remember the world cup hand ball. He thrives on the boo's (his own words) so stop trying to stir it ...

Majority of Man Utd fans are based in London

He is only hated because he is soo good.

29 Jul 2012 18:16:19
All this talk about Kaká, do we really need another CM even if Allen doesn't join?!

Yes if we selling aquilani and adam and spearing.

He was a CAM the last time i checked

29 Jul 2012 18:15:21
if we are after joe allen then the loan player will most likely be a winger or striker, so no kaka and alonso

29 Jul 2012 18:14:23
U bunch of muppets! Tevez as the loan signing? The guy who didn't come off the bench in Munich? The guy who went AWOL? Get a grip I don't want him anywhere near the club

Totally agree, he's much more trouble than it's worth

Yes thats the one, he won the league with Utd and City and stood out in both teams.

His AWOL still amazes me. how can you go when you are paid close to 200k a week for playing football

oldmonk

I'll admit the guy is world class, but also a spoilt little brat and he didn't win city or utd the league- they do it as a team! Not on their own

Won the league WITH not FOR!

Hi ed,
who is more likely to join gaitan or ramirez?

cheers

shivamlfc {Ed002's Note - You need to read what has been said about both. Try the search function.}

29 Jul 2012 18:13:26
Kaká said that the team he would most likely prefer to join would be AC Milan.

29 Jul 2012 18:07:38
Football Italia are reporting that Vargas could be exchanged for Aqualini. Could be some truth in the eds have said we hold an interest in Vargas. Have the eds heard anything?

Cheers

QPR have had a £5.5mil bid with add ons bid rejected for Charlie Adam. Liverpool holding out for a fee closer to £10mil. Mark Hughes wants both Adam and Bellamy to be signed by the end of August.

Cheers Kieran Douglas

Lies......... we would take 5.5 with add ons for adam soo quickly

God we can only hope!

NS

£10 mill for charlie the sloth, BR's having a laugh. Luckey enough to get rid of him let alone 5.5 mill

Hats off to br if he pulls that one off, deal of the summer lol, wonder if he would get as much stick then about his dealings in the transfer window

A chicken fried rice for Stodgey Adam, throw in a twix and you can have him.

29 Jul 2012 18:03:43
Evening EDs
With regards to the talk currently of Liverpool maybe bringing someone in on loan, was just wondering what is the current situation with Bojan? Does it look like Roma will take up their option to buy,or is he set to head back to Barca?

Cheers

PM {Ed002's Note - It won't be Bojan. He will stay at Roma this year and likely return to BArcelona next year.}

29 Jul 2012 17:58:43
I would agree with what the ED said earlier about who the loanee could be and Rossi having only six months left on his contract. I think this makes sense, in that he was injured and wants to get his carreer back on track. {Ed002's Note - He still is injured - I was kidding.}

29 Jul 2012 17:56:13
Eds who, other than maybe kaka who i would have thought unlikely, is a star player available for loan? {Ed002's Note - Try reading the posts.}

29 Jul 2012 17:54:19
Ive been told BR desperate to sell AC to fund villa, could be a 1 year loan deal option to buy. Villa big mates with reina.

Jimbob

There is no question Villa is a quality striker but he's well over 30 years old I can't see FSG spending big on a striker with very few years left and unproven in the premier league!

NS

Not going to happen mate

29 Jul 2012 17:48:58
Hi eds watching Senegal v uruguay and this young lad konate looks good in an attacking mid role not saying we should buy him or we should be interested in him, but from this game alone he seems to have good positioning and eye for goal any info on this young lad and any interest from anywhere {Ed002's Note - West Ham, Copenhagen and PSV have shown interest in Konate.}

29 Jul 2012 17:45:42
kaka on loan...??

29 Jul 2012 17:44:17
When suarez was booed the other day when he was playing for uruguay i thought it was only because it was at old trafford, but today he's playing at wembley and the booing is much worse. I cant see him staying in england if im honest

So he's gonna move every time he gets booed ? get a grip, he thrives on it

Best thing he can do is score to shut the r*****s up ! It will in time make him a better player.

Baz F

He wont get booed at anfield thats all that matters we love him.

Im expecting boos for John terry as well. If he doesn't get it then I have no idea what is happening with football fans.

29 Jul 2012 17:40:34
When R the boys due home from America n {Ed002's Note - I would expect today.}

They flew back straight after the spurs game

When do you think the business will start happening n transfers in and out n {Ed002's Note - Borini has arrived, several have left already.}

They are already back

There back already, lucas was the brazil game today, they came back straight away

Alright they didn't then

29 Jul 2012 17:31:43
The big name loan signing were lining up is Kaka

Mark

29 Jul 2012 17:24:38
Evening fellow Reds,

1. I'm excited who this loan player is, if I were to guess it would be either Alonso or Tevez and either one I would over the moon about, whether it's one of them it remains to be seen.

2. Sterling, Suso, Samba, Shelvey have all impressed me. I hope Suso doesn't get to dishearten as his earlier twitter eluded to, he is a real talent his touch and composure is of someone years ahead of him, with the right nurturing and coaching he could become world class as he definitely has the ability to.

3. Players I would like to see moved on but might prove harder than many think due to the high wages these players were given when they joined (this does not apply to all) that I am about to mention. Joe Cole, Downing, Spearing (in an ideal world where I had it my way Spearing would of been out the very minute the transfer window opened) Charlie Adam, Aquilani.

4. Players I have hope in that can develop into good players are Henderson Shelvey, Suso, Sterling, Samba, Robinson, Coady.

5. Enrique, now at the first half of the season and bare in mind I watched every game we played looked unplayable and the best left back in the country. I honestly thought we had bought a real gem, now can someone tell me where that player has gone because he seems to of done a runner. His form after Christmas was dire at times and his lazy approach at defending cost us some goals when it would of been better to just kick the ball into touch or pass to a team mate. I am hoping he will find this form again and more importantly like now as I don't want this form continuing into the new season.

Born LFC Die LFC

Enrique had a few good games at the start of the season, what we have seen since is his normal form. I'd play Robinson every time.

Baz F

Sama not samba

29 Jul 2012 17:24:07
Aquilani, Adam and Cole were getting alot of game time simply because rogers has them on display. These players all had considerably high wages for their ability and putting them in the shop window could attract bids. Once Rodgers clears those wages off the payroll it would increase the transfer kitty. He's clearly not too concerned to get his top players used to his style of play. He simply is trying to display and offload. This season is just a transitional phase. Rodgers knows what he is doing.Durban Pirates YNWA

29 Jul 2012 17:17:50
Hey guys can someone actually tell me if aqualani has actually left cant find this story anywhere on the net...

Actually he hasnt

He hasn't left yet. Nothing has been agreed yet. Probably the worst transfer in the history of our great club.

Jimbob

29 Jul 2012 17:13:55
Just a note for everyone wanting ramirez to sign, he was just at fault for Senegal's goal. Good to see he can defend...

mdp

Good thing he is not a defender then and an attacker and this is one game remember
pato108

Totally agree. His free kicks look to be his only strength. Has no pace and refuses to get back to defend.

So? for 1 mistake we should not sign him?

He's an attacking midfielder/winger he's not going to be bought for defending. What a bad excuse, two best chances fall to him but because he couldnt stop a header which wasn't his job, we automatically shouldnt sign him. Stick to your armchair

£20 Million after a free kick last and now he messed up and a goal was scored dont want him then. Im glad football is this simple!

Everyone wanting Suarez to stay even though he had one bad touch where he lost the ball.

Fair play. You base this on the first game you've seen him play. Didn't see you posting about his free kick the other nite or all the other good bits, but no you have to point out only the bad. Hench why he's an attacking option not defensive then isn't it. Sad really

I think the posters point maybe that people are insisting he is signed when most people re going by a 4 minute youtube compilation, or his foreign name, so it's all about perspective. Don't judge whether someone is good or bad based on highlights and one incident, as people where on saying sign him after one free kick last week.

29 Jul 2012 17:09:38
eds reds watching re runs of our games in usa , i really think suso , pacheco , stirling , morgan acoady ,( where is coady?) all should be in 25 man squad. we need to move them up , otherwise we may lose them. steviep62.

They don't need to be in the 25 man squad.

They dont need to be in the 25 man squad, under 21's dont need to be registered

Suso, morgan, sterling, shelvey, flanagan, robinson, sama won't be on the 25m squad they are all under 21

kelly, gulacsi, wilson, henderson, spearing, borini and the rest will be(if they are still with liverpool) because they are 21 and over.

29 Jul 2012 17:05:13
Suso has had a major breakthru in the Euro U-19 and played well in pre-season. If he's not promoted to first-team this year with only 1 year left of contract, im afraid we could lose him. A shame.. the kid has skill. I would swap him for Adam and Spearing any day.

T23Hero

Agree I think he would actually perform better than sterling in the first team

When he is ready he should be promoted. He is at Liverpool and moved here from 16 years old. he said he loved the club, city and country. He could be amazing but he aint ready yet... let him develop at the right pace.

Let him develop a the right pace is the motto that 100% of our next big so and so don't ever make it with liverpool.

29 Jul 2012 17:04:02
I hope this loan signing isn't Kaka, what I saw of him last season he looked off the pace I think he would find the EPL hard going!

YNWA jns

Lie.......he was class he is on his way to getting most of his form, i admit he will never be at the same level as he was at AC but if he is 75% of that level then he will be a 50% improvement from our current lot.

If he was so Class why is he looking to be loaned out!?

29 Jul 2012 17:00:55
With all the names bandied about being the possible star loan signing, I can only think it will be out of the below.

Kaka. C.M. Not wanted at Real and they need room for the impending arrival of Modric. Good chance.

Alonso. Possibly surplus with the arrival of Modric and or others at Real. Long shot but still possible.

Villa. Been out for six months with leg break. Barca could very well be looking for him to gain fitness or even move on at the right price. Good chance for this one.

Tevez. I doubt it would be Tevez, but no question id take him on a loan as a front three of Tevez, Suarez and Borini would be excellent. Long shot but slight possibility. Could possibly mean we have agreed a deal for Skrtle with them.

Pato. Seemingly unwanted at Milan and possible they want rid of him. I would not be too impressed with Pato arriving, he hasn't been anything special so far in his career.

Bojan. Currently at Roma but still tied to Barca in some respects. Move to Rome didn't pan out great and it's unsure if Barca want him back. Good chance it could be him.

Sahin. Madrid another who could be surplus to requirements and who has also had injury problems. Can't say I low much about the lad. I would say this is possible due to Real wanting to loan him out.

For me out of the above I would prefer Tevez as first choice. Although I do think it is likely to be Kaka on a Eason long loan with an option to buy in 12 months.

If it is Kaka can we presume there will be no deal for Allen due to the price quoted? Same can be said if its Alonso or Sahin.

If its Tevez does it mean we have agreed another deal in principle for Skrtle to go to City?
All hypothetical at the minute and all will become clearer soon.

I also hope we conclude deals for Ramirez and Gaitan, but I doubt we will go for both. I would also hope that we at least make an enquiry about Dzagoev. He's a quality youngster who has 6 months left on contract we would be stupid to not even try.

Jonesred

I bet this loan move doesn't even happen. Just like dempsey and Allen do not look like happening.

Or like the £26m move for Karim Benzema never happened

29 Jul 2012 16:42:04
Every 1 looking at real madrids players could it be barcalonas maybe villa or affellay hope so

29 Jul 2012 16:39:24
Alexandre Pato is the big loan signing

PiInTheSkyMan

Ac Milan just sold ibrahomovich why would they allow their current best striker on loan.

Because he might be a liability for them next season if he gets injured again and they don't want to through all their eggs in one basket maybe?

plus they want Dzeko and maybe Tevez as well.

29 Jul 2012 16:35:10

I'm going for Balotelli...might seem unlikely but makes sense for a few reasons...City want to free up space in their squad for RVP...Balotelli looked set to leave after annoying Mancini too much but a great Euros has probably affected his thinking...it would make sense to loan him to another PL club to see if he can cut it in this league...unlikely but imo no more so than Kaka/Villa etc

Its cheech outta cheech n chong, the liverpool south american lads worship his movies so the board see him as a potential guru to them, that my friends wiil be a quality signing in my oppinion.

I'd go for Nuri Sahin personally.

GSpot

There are strong rumours that Afellay is the loan move.
FowlerGod.

I definitely think he is South American

Perhaps Kaka, (he speaks English & previously said he would like to play alongside Gerrard), knows Lucas and Doni very well.

and imagine the stars we would have in our team. Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Lucas, Gerrard, Kaka & Suarez.

Adding Kaka would be like rich "important people" buying buying art as a statement piece.

I mean just think of the attraction & positive media response we would get if it was Kaka and not a fringe player like Sahin or an ex Liverpool player like Alonso.

Lets make it clear upon what the rumours are saying...

According to many sources gaston ramirez is in fact in talks with liverpool after a fee of £16million seems to have been agreed. ( i personally believe he is close to man city transfer)

Many reports surfaced yesterday of nicolas gaitan transfer although it remains to be seen how accurate it is though many sources got the information in quick succesion.

Joe allen seems to be waiting till after olympics though seems interest is rising.

Clint dempsey personally i believe it will be done next few days he wasnt playing for fulham last night.

Apart from that i see a pissible loan move for a certain spanish striker to cover andy carrols loan move then permanent striker when carrol is sold next year.

Many of the moves seek to be gathering speed due to albert aqua 90-000 a week wages are due off books and seems few players will be off the books soon.

I reckon more will become clear in next week when arrove in emgland the tour has shown depth isnt really there.

Current liverpool team is a team full of average players with bog fees on there head on high wages. Bar 2 or 3.

Thing is not the players that were bought fault they had chance to come to liverpool its only human though its down to 3/4/5 years of constant terrible purchases its so bad surely we can get better we cant seem to buy great players i mean no offence allen is w cracking player though at 15million surely theres more value in players abroad hence why newcastle arsenal man city are succesful by abroad better chance.

Heres hoping for a good year for liverpool things can surely only get better for us than last year great chance this year arsenal and spurs weakining lets take our chance!

I'll have one of what you have had .

Cheers

Jamesy

Ramirez's agent flew into London, might have got a shuttle flight up to Manchester, OR might be talking to Tottenham or Chelski, pos Arsenal {Ed002's Note - Or not.}

Ramirez's agent is either talking to representatives from Manchester city or Liverpool. No one else is interested. {Ed002's Note - There are plenty of interested clubs - as I have explained repeatedly.}

Yes but I meant from England, hence why he mentioned arriving in England to talk to English clubs. Man city and Liverpool have shown more interest than any of the others...

29 Jul 2012 16:19:12
hello eds, any idea who this "major loan" player could be? higuain maybe
thanks {Ed002's Note - I very much doubt it will be Higuain.}

Kaka baby lol

Who do you think it might be ed002?! :)

Zero {Ed002's Note - I don't know who it is but of those mentioned two of Real Madrid's midfield have already left. Sahin may be available and Kaka certainly is but wages are high. Barcelona are happy to have Villa off the books but he has never wanted to leave Spain. AC Milan are interested in buying Tevez so any loan might be last minute if nothing else can be done. Cheslea have McEachran and Lukaku available for loan in England and possibly De Bruyne. So I have no feeling for it but will try to find out.}

Its Nuri Sahin for sure

It's Torres.

Cheers for the reply ed, much appreciated as with the fantastic job you do on the site mate, you certainly do not deserve the sh*t some posters give you! Same for the other eds too ;)

Where's the big signing loan move come from?

29 Jul 2012 16:06:22
Suso has 1 year left on his contract
Watch him leave next year
DV>>D

If he does just means he wont cut it at a higher level

He is better than Joe Cole right now.

29 Jul 2012 16:01:36
Hi Ed's

Just noticed Theo Walcott is 1/1 odds to join Liverpool on ? have you heard any recent news on his contract situation ?

Pug {Ed002's Note - No.}

29 Jul 2012 15:55:58
Its clear to see that suso isn't happy to be back with the reserves but to be fair he always produces and doesn't get a chance so you have to sympathise with the lad. If he isn't going to get game time then loan him out and that should keep him happy.

Sign him on a 1 year deal Loan him out to Fiorentina they want him on season long loan because fiorentina might not want to take him on loan if his wages are ridiculous for a raw talent. Then sign him on a proper 5 year deal when that is done, Although he might like living is Florence too much and not come back.

29 Jul 2012 15:55:51
the major star is tevez, city want rid to fee up space for rvp, exciting times ahead lads

Its defo 100% alonso

Out of Tevez and Alonso, Alonso would make more sense.. Madrid want to buy Modric.. Alonso Loves Liverpool.. prolly wont be either!

Modric and Alonso don't play the same position?

Why would we sign a cm on loan when we have Henderson, Shelvey, Aquilani and Adam already and look set to sign Allen?

Hendo and Shelvey won't start...
Aquilani and Adam will be sold...
Allen will not be signed...

Can any of the eds confirm this supposed deal for aqualani? if ye got 7m for him then everyone would wana stop criticising LFCs transfer policies thats a great price for a FLOP and thats all he was folks he basically spat on the crest we all love so much he never wanted to play for us....

and for the people who rated him he played with AC Milan last year and didnt make the Italian team just shows even in his own country hes not held in high regard!

Dub_Red YNWA

Whos words are you taking for that. When did he ever say I don't want to play for Liverpool. He played for us when rafa was here. But as soon as he left hodgson and daglish put him out on loan and replaced him with Poulsen and Adam respectively. He then comes out and tells us I got forced out on loan twice, which quite frankly looked the case. He never has had the chance to play for us to be regarded as a flop. Adam and spearing flopped. Dont hate just ecause kenny said so, do your own research and you will realise why he has mixed feelings about lfc.

Stupid guy don't even know facts.

Hodgson and Dalglish basically pushed him out as soon as they got a little power.

Every game he played for liverpool under rafa he showed he was getting back his class. (the guy broke his freakin ankle)

to me Juve and AC tried to play "us" Liverpool Football Club as fools as we made it clear to the whole world we are fools with the way Hodgson and Dalglish performed in the transfer market.

If rafa was here when FSG took over we would be talking about winning the PL title now and not 4th place.

but we those 2 managers let us down BIG time and now we move on.

Kenny never let the club down

the players he signed let him, LFC and themselves down

Hi Eds,

has Suso really been demoted by Rodgers? or has some muppet just started a false rumour?

cheers

numondo {Ed002's Note - No idea, sorry.}

He's back to reserves , it was on his twitter

Suso is back in the reserves,

majestic69

Suso was never OUT of the reserves.. he got taken to USA along with other reserves so the manager could have a look at them and to make up numbers.. If he expects to go straight in to the first squad based on 2 preseason games and a couple of weeks training then he needs a kick up the backside. Gerrard says it all.. you have to prove it in training, Everyday, not just when u get 10 mins on the pitch.. Its up to Suso to push for a squad place and prove he is better than anyone else.

It just means he isnt in contention for the europa game, only those players will train with the 1st team. doesnt mean he wont feature the rest of pre season

For me its a wrong move to send him to the reserves for this season.

let him train with the first team this season even if he isn't going to be in the match sqaud list week in and week out. training with the first team will help him develop more than the reserves he has had a season and a half at the reserves.

If he gets upset that he isn't given some game time this season and doesn't sign an extension because of it then i will SUPPORT him all the way. He more than deserves his chance, last season he played better than Sterling and yet sterling gets a call up but not him.

(and i do think sterling also deserved his call up i'm just saying he played better.)

Thanks people...I just read it...he didn't actually say anything negative on twitter but has he said anything behind the scenes?
Just concerned because he's clearly one of the best rising stars in the world and seems to love our club and life in Liverpool...and would be tailor-made for Rodgers' system...

Erik Lamela looked a real player against us last Wednesday. Have LFC ever had any interest in the player? {Ed002's Note - No.}

29 Jul 2012 14:51:24
Do you think John Allen and Gaston Ramirez will be LFC players in the next couple of weeks...

Who's John Allen and who does he play for, I thought we were after Swansea's Joe Allen. If you don't know who the targets are stop being lazy and asking silly questions and do as the Ed's say and read the posts

Joe allen maybe

So he got Allens name wrong. No need to have a go at thim.

Ken aguero...

Yes it does mean we should have a go; its only banter... and its basic stuff. If we were having a kick about this bloke would probably pick the ball up... I for one would take the Mansell... erm I mean Michael!

Yh the 1st reply is a bit harsh isn't it?

Just 33 days to go and the Transfer window closes - then we start again speculating who we are going to sign in January! It's about time the whole system was closed down so that transfers can be discussed in a normal civilised (!) manner.
Dutchmal

Well said mate, it's crazy. i'm surprised it has never been challenged as illegal, it's a restriction of trade.

33 days...we have a transfer deadline countdown!

in the background I can hear the Eds screaming...

hey eds,
reports in spain that madrid are willing to loan sahin, also he has been linked to en epl club as he along with kaka and carvalho as well as some others dont feature in mourinhos plans for this season atleast.
could it be liverpool?

is he a realistic terget?
good player imo

It's Arsenal

Major Star on loan, Carlos Tevez?

29 Jul 2012 14:40:52
Liverpool have agreed to offload Italian flop Alberto Aquilani to Fiorentina for £7million, Aquilani's £100k-a-week wages going off the payroll.

Asger#E

That's probably Euros mate....so about £6m. Saving £100k p.w.(£5m p.a.) it's a fantastic deal considering he hates us. The big winner in all this is his agent...the agents always win!
ANFIELDPETE

29 Jul 2012 14:37:35
Major star might be............... seriously can't think of anyone realistic except kaka.

Sahin or Coutinho not the major stars. maybe Kaka, Rossi, Tevez. Maybe Adebayor?. ed do you know any major star available for loan?
st
YNWA {Ed002's Note - I have no idea what a "major star" is but am sure Rossi could be available for a 6 month loan from Vilalreal.}

Let me help you out ed
Canis Major is the biggest star but there are a few to pick such as Ursa Major

Is the rossi suggestion due to him being sidelined for a further 6 months?

29 Jul 2012 14:34:19
i reckon the loan star will be Adebayor

He already signed for spurs didnt he? {Ed002's Note - No.}

You are forgetting that adebayor is not a star player, he is a crap player

Not saying I want him, but could it be Tevez

29 Jul 2012 14:33:09
Nuri Sahin arriving on loan.
Interest in Joe Allen has cooled although depending on outgoings a deal is still possible.
Bulk of budget to be spent on Ramirez.
Expect a big name striker to come in if Liverpool can offload Caroll to Newcastle for 20mil.

KC

Sahin overrated...not a star in my opinion

29 Jul 2012 14:21:13
any real interest in Fernando Amorebieta

29 Jul 2012 14:22:38
Gerrard, Lucas, Henderson, Shelvey and then possibly Allen?

I'd rather see our 4 current boys ahead of Allen if I'm honest.

ForzaRed

Maybe so but realistically if we want to compete for top honours again we need a big and capable squad.. We will be entering 4 competitions this year and players will get injured and will need resting, so I'd much rather have all 5 and maybe another CM

29 Jul 2012 14:18:22
i know this is a rumour site but edd 002 i just wanted to get your opinion from pre-season games? Which players made good impact to you shelvey? pacheco?. Also little worry about enrique, didnt play very well. Are we looking another left back or could the coaching stuff give an opportunity to jack robinson?

thanks you r a legend {Ed002's Note - Sorry but I did not see any of teh preseasons games.}

Imo all the youngsters did really well except eccleston , shelvey had a really good tour henderson done well last night when he came on , downing wasnt to bad , joe cole imo had not fantastic but fairly steady tour , enrique had a better game last night in the 1st half then robinson came on in the second half and looked really good so all in all yes we didnt win any games but pre season isnt about that but i think with the majority of the youngsters we have and the present senior players the future looks bright we dont need major changes i would personally like to see a bit more pace in the final 3rd then i think we will b fine , players who didnt perform well again my opinion were adam , spearing although he did try hard and as i said earlier eccleston , hope this helps .... steve

29 Jul 2012 14:06:24
How many times last year did spearing give the ball away which led to a goal, yesterday did anyone notice he gave the ball away in the 1st and Lennon should have scored! He is not fit to wear the shirt, useless! Get rid of him Rodgers!

Doesnt help the fact commentators 2 games in a row refer to him as shelvey though..bet jonjo is wel p***ed off

What makes somebody fit to wear the shirt? Is it simply ability? If so surely morientes is one of our best ever players and carra one of our worse!!
I don't particularly think that spearing is a world beater, but, no-One could doubt that he gives 100% every time he pulls on the shirt and can you ever ask more than that?
Andy H

Surprised by the amount of opportunities Spearing gets to prove himself...I'm guessing that Kenny and Rodgers are willing him to somehow turn into a good player? we've had so many players that have been let go that were better players than Spearing...it's really a bit weird...unless Rodgers is trying to showcase him for a move away?

To be honest Andy. If I was on the pitch, I'd give 100% aswell. It doesn't mean I should be getting a game though. Spearing is just not good enough. He'd be better off at a smaller club like Reading, Norwich or Everton

Spearing gave the ball away nearly as much as Adam!

Both of them id like to see moved on - just aren't good enough.

Thought Shelvey showed he has far more to offer and he is younger than them both! Also I believe Henderson will be a stronger player this season coming just like Lucas he will develop. Adam is a stubborn player that thinks he knows better than his talent allows him and Spearing isn't going to get any better.

YNWA jns

Jay Spearing is a decent Championship player....nothing more, nothing less.

£18m bid imminent for Nicolas Gaitan according to ESPN. Would be a quality signing and much needed natural width IMO.

29 Jul 2012 13:46:12
Hi Ed's
Why isit taking Liverpool so long to complete new signings?
Rodgers has delaired interest in Dempsey an Allan! No bids yet tho!
Im worried Henry doesn't have as much money as we think

Maybe because thay are both overpriced. We are probably sick of being ripped of for players.

Kev.

Worrying is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but it doesn't get you anywhere. Shhhhh

We should just buy STARS that are available and want to remake themselves. pato & kaka want to remake themselves. vargas also wants to start fresh and coutihno would just be a better attacking option than Joe Allen. (We have Shelvey and Henderson for future CM roles and coutinho could be a good attacking pacey, tricky addition to them)

Pato - £23m (that would give Milan the funds to buy both Tevez and Dzeko).

Coutinho - £14m

Kaka - £4m loan with option to buy £18m next season - funded by bellamy, kuyt & maxi with their 1 year salaries that they leave/left at behind (thank you boys)

Vargas - £2m plus Aquilani and suso on season long loan.

1. ST; borini - £10.5m
2. ST; pato - £23m
3. AM/LWF; coutinho - £14m
4. CM; kaka - £4m
5. LB/LM/LWF; vargas - £2m
= £53.5m

selling
carroll - £18m
bellamy - £2m
adam - £5.5m
downing - £10m
aquilani swap
maxi free
kuyt 1m
bellamy 2m
jones 1m
= £39.5m

= £14m spent in total.

reina
johnson, skrtel, agger, enrique
lucas
gerrard, kaka
suarez, pato, vargas

doni, kelly, coates, henderson, shelvey, coutinho, borini.

looks like a good core of class players that could easily get us in the top 4, then add 1 or two in the jan window and a solid base to to then attract "big name" players next summer with the attraction of champions league.

29 Jul 2012 13:37:33

eds,, can you plz giv us a update on the andy carrol situation is he now likely to stay?
And wats happaning with allen bid?

Basy {Ed002's Note - I expect Carroll will go and Allen will arrive.}

Andy Carroll is history,mate.
The £17m will buy Joe Allen. The £18m we get for Skirtel will secure Gaston Ramirez. The sale of Aquilani will mainly fund the purchase of Clint Dempsey.
What we get for Spearing, Ecclestone and Cole will cover the coach-driver's tip for the West Brom game and maybe chips and pie on the journey back.
ANFIELDPETE

That's 7m over the value of Allen

29 Jul 2012 12:58:31
Hi everyone,

Just been looking through the posts, and I was particularly looking to see whether anyone had mentioned this - but can't see anything...

Last night, when Spurs hit the post, Jamie C immediately turned to Enrique and had a little dig at him for losing his man. Did anyone notice it? The fact that we don't get any post match analysis on these ESPN games means that no-one discusses the errors in the game and I'm left thinking about my own opinion with no-one to discuss it with.

Is this just a result of it being a friendly? and lack of match sharpness? Enrique, whilst he made a good start at the club, has been culpable on a number of occasions last season, particularly when he tried to come away with the ball when perhaps it would have been a better decision to boot it into row Z. Is he a liability? and should be looking to strengthen? I thought Jack Robinson looked good last night, but he's still very young.

I'm not looking for abuse or arguments here... just some thoughts ...

Brian YNWA

Hi Brian,

Immediately after the game(if you have sky) go onto channel 429 which gets you Liverpool FCTV. You will have post match analysis and a live phone in.

29 Jul 2012 12:55:32
It seams, as with many of our deals recently , that when the deal is close for us the unimaginative and and frankly very sad spurs come in and inflate the market to ridiculus levels thereby making targets that would have been bargains into expensive risks on lots of wages (see siggerdson)
So basically I'm asking if Allen, a player even at 15 mil I think we very much need, still looks set to be a red and join Rodgers or if we are leaving them to give him £90,000 a week etc
Also any news eds on Ramirez, gaitan and our defensive targets is obviously welcomed.

Major star? They are Iniesta, Messi types. Only one I can think of who fits into that category who is available and that is Kaka. Fits Rogers style of play and with his relationship with Mourinho, who knows!?

Do you have an idea of the players (other than carroll) expected to leave when they return?
who do you think will replace carroll?
when do you think dempsey and allen will sign?
and finally is there any chance of us getting gaitan and gaston ramirez?

Do you know if will be a loan with a view to sign?

Villa or Kaka perhaps?

Kaka???

I dont think it will be kaka as we have lots of midfielders. It could be tevez or david villa though?

Its Gerard Deulofeu. Youngster from Barcelona. A 'star' in the making. Has been likened to Cristiano Ronaldo.....

But if I was to be wishful I would say possibly Ozil if Madrid get Modric. Kaka for the same reason. Or.........Higuain??

Major star signing on loan, well for me its andy carroll signing on a loan to west ham, he is the star of liverpool isnt he?

Wot's 'nacked'

The imminent arrival of modric at real madrid will undoubtedly push players out the window or down the pecking order under mourinho.

st
YNWA

He played about as well as anyone can play in one of the most boring matches you will ever see, lol

everyone looked absolutely drained as it was in the mid 90's, borini showed a couple of flashes of what he can do, but you can't express yourself in a game when the other players hardly got out of first gear, though you can hardly blame them in that heat, and the pitch was awful, ball hardly moved on it, more to come from borini though, that you could tell

Alright spose missed a decent chance and chased well but the match was awful and not many players proved their worth in it

Thanks.

29 Jul 2012 12:18:28
Well Suso is training with the reserves onwards, and he is completely right, nothing changes at Liverpool. We might aswell say goodbye to him, he is rightly incredibly annoyed and if he doesn't leave this summer for a small fee, he will go next year for nothing. What happened to "if you're good enough you're old enough" Brendan? Saying what you think the fans want to hear me thinks. How about Cole, Wilson, Spearing, Adam and co go and train with the reserves? They've had their chance and shown they aren't and never will be good enough. Suso should have been played on Thursday, it was the perfect chance for him to be given a game. He is up there with the most match fit players in our squad after playing in the U19's but no, let's play Spearing and Adam, great. Before you start with the he isn't ready rubbish, he is certainly ready to at least train with the first team squad.
Angry Red

Or because of his involvement in under 19s and the fact he's still a kid. That the club want to give him a rest.

Owen was ruined later in his career due to the amount of games he played as a youngster, same with Torres too.

Jonesred

If this demotion and his statements are accurate then he will definitely be on his way...he is far too good to be in reserves and he won't improve until he's in the first team squad...I am very surprised Rodgers doesn't consider him good enough even though we have a few players in the first team squad that should not be there...Suso has paid his dues and worked hard for our club so for this to happen is a huge worry...

'Liverpool... Back on tuesday with the reserves.'

that above is a copy and paste of suzo's actual tweet.
where is there anything to suggest the words 'nothing changes' in that tweet?!

29 Jul 2012 12:09:25
this maybe a stupid question but how do you think would be best to introduce the youngsters in to the first team squad? i read gerrard saying that they need to show their worth etc in training .... but if we have them playing to early surely they will become another owen? also what do you think pacehcos future is likely to be as to be fair he looked very good in preseason i know his attitude in the past hasnt got him anywere but he looks like a very good player to me? ajh316

29 Jul 2012 12:07:55
Hello Eds and Fellow kopites,
anyone seen the Suso tweet. The lad is not happy being sent back to the reserves. Seriously feel pissed off at the club over its handling of youngsters. Please oh Please start moving the dross out of the club.

Maybe he should shut up
If he thinks that playing his face will improve his chances of being in the first team then he is sadly mistaken
If anything Rodgers may question his attitude

Don't think he'll be pissed off, has had good experience with the 1st team on tour and will be back with the reserves and I would imagine he'll get a few chances this year, he's still a young lad.

LFC are close to signing Bologna's Uruguayan winger Gaston Ramirez for £16m. #Daily Express

29 Jul 2012 11:54:45
By the way the owners have been talking if we get even close to champions league they will put it down as a good season. I really don't agree with, I think this year we will see a van persie less arsenal and a spurs team minus modric, king and possibly adebayor drop further, I also think Newcastle punched way above there weight and will be found out. A couple of decent signings and a bit of luck which lates face it we have had none for a while should see us to 4th!

For 4th place we will need around 68-70 points...16-18 more than last season. Its clear that if we win most of our home games against the non big 5 teams we should be able to do this...but that means a big change from the last few seasons

A spurs team minus king..? they have been minus it seems forever as the fella is ALWAYS injured, lol, you forgot to mention chelsea who continue to add quality players, hazard, who finished 5th last season, if anyone is going to replace spurs in top 4 its going to be chelsea not us, there is no way were going to from 8th to 4th in one season and jump the likes of spurs and chelsea or even arsenal, you say newcastle punched above their weight, what for a whole season? no team is lucky enough to go a whole season on luck alone, we have an awful amount of catching up to do, 6th or 5th is probably our aim in brendans first season

Clutching at those straws again !

Much love

29 Jul 2012 11:52:56

It's nice to see Liverpool linked with some ambitious signings rather than second rate signings from the Prem. Wondering (hoping!) that Allen is a smokescreen so we can get the Ramirez deal done. Realistically though, what's the chances of these names who we have been linked with over the last week? Amorebieta, Ramirez, Gaitan??

Reina, Johnson, Amorebieta, Agger, Enrique, Lucas, Gerrard, Ramirez, Borini, Suarez, Gaitan looks pretty decent for next year, and certainly stronger than Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Enrique, Lucas, Gerrard, Allen, Borini, Suarez, Dempsey!

Defiantly stronger as you have only picked 10 players in the second team .

See ya then suso, nobody should demand to be in the side. Who the hell does he think he is..... Sayin that not seen the quotes so probably doing him an injustice.
FowlerisGod

Why are you acting as if it's his loss that he might be leaving Liverpool. I'm pretty sure another top club would grab him and he'll do well for them and we'll b scratching our heads saying 'i told you so'. Suso deserves some first team action and if he doesn't get it next season, then it's our loss. Trust me if he leaves it would be worse than sterling leaving.

It is his loss. You don't demand a first team place. Don't care who you are. Le tallec tried that one with Rafa and look what happened there

Is he demanding first team football?...no. He's proven that he deserves some first team action and that he is well above reserve level at the moment. Either he goes on loan to get some first team action elsewhere or he'll leave us, and ultimately we lose out on a very promising player.

29 Jul 2012 11:04:51
Is it me or does Henderson look like a better player in yellow boots.

Pork chop

The whole team should get yellow boots then as they were all ordinary last night

Or a yellow stripe down their shirt

"There has been a lot written about Andy, but you saw here he's happy to be here and he's worked very well since he's been here.
"The reality is he's still a Liverpool player, he can fit into how I want to play, and he's happy here. I'm certainly not wishing to push him out of the door."

FACT

Translation:

"I'm absolutely desperate to get rid of Andy but so far nobody has come in with a high enough bid"

It is "fact" that these were rodgers words.
But get real, you know that most words don't reflect the real position or intentions of the speaker

29 Jul 2012 10:57:33
We badly need a defensive midfielder to step in if Lucas isn't playing. Jay Spearing has to be one of the worst players to ever play for Liverpool. An awful player. Yesterday we kicked off, the ball was played to Spearing who passed it to Bale within 5 seconds, putting us on the back foot. He is a waste of time. Need to get rid of him, and take Charlie Adam with him.

Kev.

Ship adam and spearing..and cole too...we need ramirez, and allen...

Don't knock Spearing...apparently he's a much better player than Suso!

If suso was to leave and spearing was to stay (even though they play different positions) I would put that down as one big mistake by BR already.

29 Jul 2012 10:52:00
Bad news! Rodgers thinks Downing is good. Maybe we don't buy a winger then

Players that play front three: downing, Carroll, Suarez, sterling, borini, Pacheco, Bellamy. Bellamy will leave, I'm quite certain of that. I personally feel that of Carroll was to leave and we get a good sum of money from him that his replacement is either Ramirez or gaitain. So then we have Suarez, Ramirez/gaitain, borini, downing, sterling, Pacheco.

29 Jul 2012 10:44:52
Leeds want king kenny

They don't have the money for king kenny to waste.

29 Jul 2012 10:26:11
I doubt their is any substance to this rumour but he is a Martin O'Neill type of player. O'Neill tried to sign Kevin Davies in January and he signed Heskey and Carew at Villa.

29 Jul 2012 10:19:41
I hope our transfer activity is the following.

Outs.

Spearing 2-4 million. Eccleston. 1-3 million.
Downing 10-12 million. Adam 4-7 million.
Aqualani 3-7 million. Carroll. 20 million.

Ins.

Ramirez. 15-17 million. Gaitan 14-18 million.
Munian. 20-25 million.

I think the above (if reports on Gaitan and Ramirez are true) are obtainable this summer. We would also need a striker, but Ramirez could fill that role too due to his versatality.

Ed I can certainly see all apart from (unfortunately) Downing being sold this window. this would raise a food amount of money for Rogers in the region of 30-40 million.

The manager must also have some Money there still from funds, which could take the pot to 50 million or so. Which would be a big plus in signing players of the above quality.

Question I have really is if somehow we did sign Gaitan and Ramirez, could you still see us attempting to sign Munian and a striker in addition to this if the above sales happen?

I know you have explained these players before with varying detail, but is it possible that all three could be signed this summer?

Jonesred {Ed002's Note - No.}

I would say one out of the three you have signed are really necessary, there all similar types of player!
maybe a out and out striker and cm (allen)

liambarr93

I wouldnt say they are too similar to play in the same squad really. If all three were to sign it would line up as

Reina.
Johnson. Agger. Skrtle. Enrique.

Gaitan. Munian/Gerrard. Ramirez.
Lucas/Henderson.

Suarez. Borini.

I think we already have the funds for at least one of Gaitan or Ramirez with 10 there in place for the other.
Which would mean the sales of

Carroll 20 million.
Adam 5-7 million.
Spearing 2-4 million.
Eccleston 2-3 million.

Would cover the 25 million fee for Munian and make up the rest of the Ramirez or Gaitan fee.

In addition if Downing is sold we would still have some funds for a further player.

Jonesred

Its a good way of thinking but not very realistic. Just get it out of your head that we will go for munain, he will want top tier football and I would imagine that to be in Spain. Ramirez and gaitain look more likely (especially Ramirez) so 1 out of these two is needed because the only players that look a threat going forward are Suarez and gerrard if I'm hounest. Then I think it will depend on who's sold, if we get rid of spearing and either aqualani or Adam then I would expect Allen to come through. If Carroll leaves then I expect a striker to come through.

29 Jul 2012 09:56:54
good morning eds!
just wondering that if we do sell andy carrol for 18-20m who are we most likely to bring in?
is there any names floating about?

thanks
LiamBarr93 {Ed002's Note - I would not want to speculate. Much will depend on who else leaves.}

29 Jul 2012 09:54:43
Hi everyone. Watched the game yesterday, as everyone could see, the 2nd half was much better than the 1st. Few things to take from the 1st half, I thought Jonjo was brilliant, can see this lad being a key member of our team in years to come, he is still only about 20/21 I think. Also the main thing I noticed is that Morgan was constantly trying to run in behind the spurs back line. The amount of threaded throw balls to him, weather they came of or not was great to see. I cant remember the last striker we had who actually done that on a consist basis. Torres, Owen, Fowler are the only ones which come to mind. Therefore my main point is that i genially do believe that this young lad Morgan will be a top draw player.

Charlie Adam , absolute disgrace and a waste of human sinew ! Should be fined and banned!

Much love

You don't seem to be spreading the love!

henderson and shelvey are going to be very good in the future, both just need more time.

29 Jul 2012 09:14:29
The Express are reporting that we are closing in on Ramirez. I know its not the most reliable of sources. But any truth eds?

Thanks

I heard his agent was in london talking to spurs?

Hello Eds,
do you think Liverpool would sell if reported fees were proposed for Carroll (20m) and aquilani (7m)? thanks. tom. {Ed002's Note - I would suspect if such an offer existed for Aquilani it would not be pounds.}

Ed if his buying then we could do the deal for that price yes,i will tell sly haha.jay essex red for life red till dead

Hi EDs and Reds
i thought last night we yet again saw the potential of some of the younger players. i think that we need to invest in the creative department. hopefully BR will get rid of the average players in our squad, so that the development of the younger players can progress.
Thanks
LEP72

I agree with bringing through the younger players, but then I doubt we would get into the top 4 with them, and then would this be classed as failure by FSG and would they then get rid of BR, even though they haven't set any targets. Think a mixture of Young and experience is the way to go.

Sooty

am i right in thinking that we still have a friendly vs leverkusen left?

Eds
Is it true that aquilani once faked an injury so he didnt have to train? Thanks

Redman

Keep it low til we get rid of him.

29 Jul 2012 08:48:05
After the Spurs game, BR was asked about Andy Carroll and said:

"Obviously, I'll know more when we get back. There has been a lot written about Andy, but you saw today he's happy to be here and he's worked very well since he's been here.

"The reality is he's still a Liverpool player, he can fit into how I want to play, and he's happy here.

"I'm certainly not wishing to push him out of the door."

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Personally, I think this is good for the club. Andy has shown he has improved as a player, especially towards the end of the season and at the Euros. I hope we can hang on to him, but if an offer came in of above £25 million, I would expect BR to sell. Just my opinion.

LFCBilly

Eds, Does the transfer window close at the end of next month? also if a player is in the squad but doesnt play...does this still make them cup tied? just looking at the carroll situation thats all if we are in uefa on the 2nd Aug. {Ed002's Note - Yes, No.}

29 Jul 2012 08:36:34
I thought Rodolfo and Pep introduced a policy where the younger lads under 21s where to stay at the club and not go on loan so they could develop the LFC way. The weren't getting the games or development when the went out? Isn't this why we entered the nextgen? Therefore I wouldn't expect Suso, Sterling, Coady, Samma etc to go on loans.

29 Jul 2012 08:36:12
Would absolutely love this to be are starting line up for the majority of games: Reina, johnson, skrtel, agger, new lb? Lucas, henderson, Gerrard, gaitan, ramieraz, Suarez

Borini will play.

Its either gaitain or Ramirez not both

29 Jul 2012 07:55:08
The Difference of Kenny and BR is Kenny use big amount to buy few unproven player. BR not use that Big yet. £12m for Borini is not a big amount.
and so far his Biding price for player is not that high too.

r-r

Ed was it not 8m for borini jay essex red for life {Ed002's Note - Try searching on 13.3 Jay.}

Do spurs actually have a scout seems they want to sign any player where interested in

Dont remember any interest from us in Modric, Van Der Vart, Bale, HUddlestone, Carrick, Dawson or Berbatov.... Oh wait but they did get Siggurdson so someone at Spurs must obviously be spying on LFC and prepared to spend 30+ million pounds just to disrupt our transfer activity as we are their biggest rivals, not AFC, MUFC, MCFC or CFC.... get a grip

FJM

They also scouted allen two years ago!

Spurs is a joke of a football club, if u think of the players they've been interested in and missed out, u can fill this whole page: damiao, ganso, oscar, hazard, remy just to name but a few. i mean do they ever get their targets? bar verntoghen who forced a move and gylfi whom they hijacked...

i can't remember the last time i was excited by a player.

Sergio Agüero was exciting debut.

I saw the 87/88 team lose a pre-season friendly 5-1. They didn't do too badly, won the league by first weak in April and were robbed in the FA cup final. Stop panicking and get behind the team.
THE QUAGGAR

It was 88-89 - we lost 5-1 at Atletico Madrid - it was the year of Hillsborough and we lost the league in the last game to Arsenal. I get the point you make though.

29 Jul 2012 04:54:51
For the deluded fans,

Many of you must be impressed with Chelsea's summer signings. If you look at the starting line up for the three games Chelsea have played they have put in most of their first team including stars like Hazard, Marin and Lampard. On the other hand, Liverpool are playing a mixture of experience and youth and have not made any big summer signings.

Chelsea have lost two and won one of of their 3 pre season games whereas Liverpool have drawn 2 and lost 1. Comparing the starting line-ups Chelsea obviously have a stronger line up than Liverpool but what they don't have is the ability to play as a team. I guarantee Liverpool will impress many people in the forthcoming season without spending half the money Chelsea have spent.

The point I was trying to get across is other teams are struggling in pre season with better squads so stop slating your team and start supporting it!

Red Chopsticks

Sensible post, we always seem to be the only fans paying too much heed to what is nothing more than a training exercise to gain fitness and test out a few ideas. No player is going to bust a gut in friendlies and risk injury. No other fans are going to be as judegmental over it as us.

Yea...Youre also forgetting Chelsea were playing MLS Allstars, PSG and AC Milan. Us Toronto( bottom team in MLS?) Roma which finished 7 th in serie A and Tottenham. Im not trying to be negative and just like everyone alse am waiting for the new season but we have some tough games at the beginning and if our team is not well prepared and organised we might be in deep trouble come october.

29 Jul 2012 04:50:27
Sounds about right. I would think there's a few players that would need to be moved on for sure. I firmly believe that BR will bring in the right players for us though. Thanks for the update - I hope you are right about Joe Allen - I rate him really high. -red norwegian-

29 Jul 2012 03:20:20
I took a lot from tonights game but the main one was that Adam is no where near LFC quality. Henderson keeps on impressing was me next one.

29 Jul 2012 03:04:21

Nice work eds!
Didnt get a chance to watch the match but did Sig feature for spurs? If so, how did he fare ?
I know its a friendly and really early to judge a player, but just checking if he hit the ground running.

If you had a chance to choose beween gaitan & James Rodrigues, who would you choose. My pick would be JR.

Looking forward to the new season with optimistic belief.

Cheers,
Raul

Sig was in the Spurs team but you would never know it. No big loss

Thanks cozinoz

Could the fact that a bid of 7m might have been placed on Aquilani be the reason that he didn't play against Tottenham and therefore BR wanted to give those minutes to players that will most likely be playing in the Europa league next week?

29 Jul 2012 03:12:44
Eds ty for the great 'job' you all do. Ive had enough of this Im going back to the seventies and not going on any internet footy sites, not watching sly sports news, not even coming on here, just going to go to the games and have a bevvy with fellas who dont talk carp lol been good tho this is the only site for LFC rumours. The Robster.

29 Jul 2012 03:08:44
Looks like Brendan is backing out on selling Carroll either because he has rethought or the owners have told him to fit a 35m man in his plans or he knows no one will offer what the owners want

"Obviously, I'll know more when we get back. There has been a lot written about Andy, but you saw today he's happy to be here and he's worked very well since he's been here.

"The reality is he's still a Liverpool player, he can fit into how I want to play, and he's happy here.

"I'm certainly not wishing to push him out of the door."

this from his interview with lfc now on slysports

many thanks
nabeal

"Backing out"?? Rodgers had barely said anything to the press. It was sly sports and the tabloid rags who have basically been inventing stories. There has been little from Rodgers regarding Carroll (or any player actually) - theonly things he has said is he will look to loan out a few players and that everyone has a price - thats it. Don't believe everything you read.

SMc

Only BENITEZ, can make him play like world beater, the way he did wif crouch, this is the skill that manager like rodger are lack of, he is afraid on not having a clue how to use carrol in the, remember wif crouch liverpool were on top of euros, ceouch flips and garcia tips.

Yes and it took Crouch, what, 19 games to score.

29 Jul 2012 02:07:46
Forgive me if im mistaken but did Spurs score either? It was just a friendly, id rather BR make sure fully what players are competent enough to be taken into the league with him than fielding a team that would fight tooth and nail with Tottenham over a "friendly".
What was evident today was that Spearing, Adam and Aquilani might not just be part of that bunch? Also that Shelvey is a massive talent? Henderson did a good job too? Etc
Calm down!
RedSox69

29 Jul 2012 02:07:44
Some people on this site need to calm down and chill already writing us off already saying Brendan dont know wot his doing its so stupid . We are fans who stick together through thick and thin some of you should remember that . .

Why is it stupid to say brendan does not know what he is doing?

LFC is an experiment for Rogers

A manager with one year of experience in the EPL with a team (swans) that was expected to achieve little and he got 11th with them

29 Jul 2012 01:53:04
I've enjoyed these warm up games, the results weren't great but it's been fun seeing the players we've got coming thru.

It's pretty disappointing seeing a lot of doubters on here. I think BR has been pretty impressive with his selection thru out the warm up games. There was a few players(suso, agger,pachecho...) left out tonight that I was surprised at to begin with but I figure they've made the cut, there safe ;) Then there's the likes off spearing, Cole and Adam who have had a lot of game time. I'd say it is likely that he is off the same opinion as most of the fans about these players and where better to test them than on games that don't count for anything. That's why he's the manager.

I reckon there will be some outs pretty quick after they return

Cudge

29 Jul 2012 01:32:05
I believe that Andy Carroll WILL leave, especially if (per rumours) we sign Gaston Ramirez, Joe Allen and Clint Dempsey.
Personally, I'd be delighted with our Summer if the above happened and, somehow, we managed to offload Aquilani,Ecclestone,Spearing and Cole.
We NEED to keep Suarez but the devil in me suspects that the owners are looking to embrace Brendan's vision AND make a profit/break even!
If they sell Carroll and Suarez (£50m), Cole and Aquilani (£8m) along with others (£10m) plus all of their wages, they'll be well-placed to buy their reported targets AND tell their fellow shareholders that they've conformed to "Brendan's Dossier" without spending a dime (including the cost of hiring Bren.)
Furthermore, if they sell Skirtel for £16m(approx) and Adam (£4m) then they'll be well in pocket. With Kelly, Coates, Coady, Suso, Morgan, Sterling, Pacheco etc. to polyfill the gaps I think they'll believe we'll be okay.
However, IF Suarez is to be sold (for whatever reason!) then he needs to be replaced with a massive signing (Munain?, Pepe?, Ozil?)
I'm not having a dig at the owners and I don't think they'd penny-pinch to the extent I've suggested but they do need to appreciate what it takes to turn in a good season...especially now we're competing with billionaires.
Personally, I'd keep all of Kenny's signings until,at least, January....Carroll,Adam,Downing,Enrique and Henderson.
All of them should be given the chance to show what they're made of and none of them are bad players.
All of what I'm saying is pure speculation. I've never pretended to have any "inside info" but I'm a long-standing season-ticket holder with an opinion (which I've tried to express) and a dis-trust of the obsession with wingers (I'd prefer full-backs and midfielders who can put in a decent cross regularly than "dedicated" wingers).

My "Dream-team" for 2012-13 (based on realism)
would be the following;

GK's; REINA, JONES, GULACSI (DE VRIES?)
(n.b. Tyrone Belford is not good enough!)

Full-Backs; ENRIQUE,JOHNSON,FLANAGAN,ROBINSON,KELLY

CB's; COATES, KELLY, AGGER, CARRAGHER, WISDOM, WILSON

MIDFIELDERS; GERRARD, ADAM, HENDERSON, COADY, SHELVEY, DOWNING, ALLEN, DEMPSEY, RAMIREZ, SUSO, LUCAS LEIVA

FORWARDS; SUAREZ, BORINI, RAMIREZ, PACHECO, MORGAN, STERLING, DEMPSEY, SUSO, NGOO.

EXTRAS; HOWARD WEBB

N.B. Some of the above are duplicated because they can cover more than one position (except Webb who's only position is a foot and a half up Taggart's ar5e!)

ANFIELDPETE

I almost agree with your post but you said your dream team is based on realism. But hell would freeze over before we manage to get Howard Webb from Man Utd

Cant believe you have valued carroll at £1.99 with the combined transfer value with suarez

29 Jul 2012 01:09:46
a response to Macca, I agree too many average squad players that need to be shipped out and replaced with less numbers but more quality.

I would like to see Shelvey kept and given more opportunity and hendo to be kept but less prominent role this year.
Spearing and Adam to be moved on, downing last chance saloon. Carrol I'd keep but if a 25m world class replacement is purchased plus a quality wide man then fine if he must be moved on.

I'd get rid of Wilson and purchase a threat to Enrique, get rid of Aqualani full stop.
Let Suso go on loan, Ibe on loan (if he's old enough), Sterling & Morgan more 1st team substitute appearances.
We need to add goals so Borini, Dempsey, Suarez, possibly Ramirez? and another goalscoring forward/wide player need to be added. Our creativity will rely on Suarez/Gerard and big pressure on Allen if he signs, personally I'd play Lucas, Gerard and Shelvey in a 3 man midfield. Suarez, Dempsey, Borini up front with Sterling, Downing, Ramierez to come off the bench.

If Suarez gets injured then we lack any creative threat so we must sign another player who can produce that bit of magic in the final third.

I hope if we do move Andy on then a world class player is bought as Dempsey and Borini alone will not be enough attacking threat. I'd keep Bellars but at his age without the guarentee of first team football surely he must move on and play the rest of his career in the prem or getting Cardiff up there.

ALB.

29 Jul 2012 00:30:48
I probably feel the same as a lot of you ( hi everyone ) , I am looking forward to next season and believe we can only improve on eight place but feel we need the injection of optimism from at least one signing that makes you think ' yes they could really help us score goals' ? Although I would be reluctant to sell sell AC I would expect to end up feeling hopeful but ultimately let down at the end of most games. The youngsters are still not quite there so need an out and out goal scorer. Difficult to attract a top quality when you finish eighth.

29 Jul 2012 00:23:38
Just watched the Lfc vs spurs game, how great the young lads played.the future looks good our team did not look to be out played by a spurs team with more first tram players than ours.the future looks good ynwa.

28 Jul 2012 23:50:41
Has anyone else read Rodgers comments on the offical website bout tonights game? I tink he sounds like he knows exactly the state of the team its making me alot more positive..

He states that sterling, shelvey and henderson all stood out as young performers which im sure we all agree with? and he talks of how he will get the best out of henderson and downing knowing exactly how he intends to play them... He also praised gerrard but we all know hes pure class..

Still hasnt really backed andy carroll but says he wont force him out the door and i dont tink he will let him go unless LFC recieve a very good offer!

More to the point was the players that didnt gaet a mention adam, spearing, aqualani, cole I tink these are the obvious choices to leave with the likes of morgan, wilson, gulasci, eccelston, sama, robinson going back into the reserves next season and if BR can add one or two more decent players to the 1st team I tink we will be fine..

Really cant wait for the season to start and get suarez into that team he really is a class above the rest and will make a massive difference to the team and hopefully borini will step up to the mark..

Passing, passing, passing.
Passing to nowhere.

It's 3 games into pre season... Good god! Look at other preseasons it's always the same and we played another good premier league team! You'd probably take nil-nil away to spurs in the league!
