Banter please eds.
Just playing fifa 14 (I usually do at this time of year with no prem to look forward to) and who should pop up.dani Pacheco! What ever happened to him, I understand he's now at betis but I expected him to be the next big thing. So to take the attention of signings and borini! Who were you guys expecting big things from only for them to disappear into obscurity?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

29 Jul 2014 23:37:16
Mark Gonzalez, Harry Kewell and of course Fernado Morienties, to name a few!

Agree0 Disagree0

Ryan Babel surely has to be up there! His potential at the start of his career was huge. I suppose Fernando Morientes & Aquilani also fall into the big flop in relation to their quality/price tag category. Admittedly I also thought Joe Cole was going to turn out to be the signing of the century lol.

Agree4 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 23:49:16
Has to be Ryan Babel for me, looked amazing at the u-21 World Cup. Looked like he had everything to be a star; pace, power, height, powerful shot, and could go past players. Also big Henry fan so the skilful fast winger turning to striker made me think he could be like him. turns out he had very little between his ears and apparently less dedication (least what I heard). Though always has that goal against arsenal in the CL, great night that!

Agree1 Disagree0

Well with all the hype surrounding them.
Pacheco
Bruno Cheyrou
Anthony Le Tallec
Neil Mellor
Andy Carrol
Connor Coady
Danny Wilson
Salif Diao
El Hadj Diouf

Agree3 Disagree3

Florent Sinama Pongolle! I even got him on the back of my jersey. That's how much I thought this guy was going to be the next big thing!

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - The next big thing was your top if you had that on the back! I've got a Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink tattoo... ;)

30 Jul 2014 02:25:15
Don't mention tops have a keane, aquilani and a Carroll!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - What did they sing?}

30 Jul 2014 07:57:52
I got a Fowler top once about a week before he was sold by Houllier

Agree0 Disagree0

Sounds like a very shoddy firm of solicitors! :)

Agree0 Disagree1

30 Jul 2014 09:46:19
I used to have a Riise and Alonso shirt, along with I'm ashamed to admit a Torres shirt!

Agree0 Disagree0

Bought some Umbro Owens the year before he left! Part of why I became a young fan over in the states. I think they were 90 dollars :)

Agree0 Disagree0

The list is huge, Cheyrou, Diouf, Le Tallec, Pongolle, Kewell, Biscan, Carroll, Morgan, Gonzalez, Pacheco, Babel.
These were all players we were led to believe were going to go on and make Liverpool the best team in the world again only for them to massively disappoint!
They were all massively talented individuals who due to injuries or bad attitudes or just not developing the way that was expected all faded off into obscurity.

Agree0 Disagree0

Paletta, Kvarme, Cole too

29 Jul 2014 23:08:26
I wasn't sure what to make of Origi seen as I've only watched him in a handful of games at the world cup. But Rodgers certainly seems delighted with it! Can't get much higher praise than what he said. Anyone watched him play a bit more regularly?

And happy birthday ed.

Greizmann signs for atleti then. Rule that one out posters n move on. Is ruess really possible, isco, son, the list goes on and on and on

For me we really need someone who is going to put fear in to, the opposition. Last yr other players scored because the opposition focused on Suarez allowing others time n space they won't now be afforded. If opposition stick two on sturridge he won't get many goals so need that player to create space and problems. Appreciate lallana and marcovic will do this as will lambert when played but they won't necessarily score the goals we need to challenge. I'm pleased, with the additions but think they would have come anyway as BR wanted a bigger squad 4 CL so now we need the LB and a 2nd striker and we will be a title challenge again

Believable3 Unbelievable4

Sturridge, Sterling, etc. equally created space for Suarez. I have no idea why people seem inclined to try and give credit for all of the goals the entire team scored to Suarez.

Agree4 Disagree0

Maybe we should've kept Suarez and waited until October for him to put fear in the opposition?

Agree2 Disagree2

Or maybe we can get a better goalie, we can win games 1 - 0 and still win the prem, last season showed me its not what you score but how many games we win, we did score over a hundred goal and still never won the prem, we made too many mistakes which led to goals and conceded too many goal, so imo we need a better goalie

Agree0 Disagree2

Forgot to add Jackson Martinez to the list, is he likely to move eds and are we/have we shown interest? Older player (well He is 29! Whilst me n eds001 are both 40! That's old) but still doing the business and tim vickers of bbc rated him highly as an 'out n out goal scorer'

Hi eds / lfc supporters
I don't get all the negativity towards borini is he was injured for his 1st season here he went on loan to sunderland and was there best player he mite not give us 30 goals a season but he's def got double figures in him his commitment and work rate is fantastic and I bet he's one of the hardest trainers around the guy is going to surprise a few people this year just start getting behind him how do you think he feels if all this negativity creeps into the crowd he's a confidence player who just needs an arm round him somone in his ear telling him how good he is cheers guys great site

Believable13 Unbelievable3

He wasn't there best player . ki was they're best player n a few others in the final games . borini is a likeable guy and its admirable he wants to fight, but he's just no good enough for lfc

Agree6 Disagree9

Totally agree with the first post. Borini should be given a chance. All of these "fans" who slate him and say he's not good enough based on a few games in his first season are just sheep and following what a few idiots say. We don't know really how good he is or how good he can be yet!
At least he's got prem experience, unlike Lacazette who has had one half decent season in a poor league!
Back Borini and if he gets his chance and under performs then so be it.

Agree5 Disagree3

For me if Borini stays he will give us a different type of striker. He is a poacher, Pippo Inzaghi-like. Whether he will shine or not depends on how Rodgers set the team. If Rodgers set the team to defend deep and launch quick counter attack then Borini will not suit that style. For me he doesn't have enough pace or dribbling for that style of play. But if Rodgers set the team to control possession and the opponent put a lot of players inside the box, I believe Borini will flourish. In game like vs Chelsea at home last season when we pressed Chelsea in their half Borini will be very useful.

Fellow Reds and Dear Eds,

Just a quick postcard from my holidays in Denmark,
Jan Molby and Dan Agger land! Really loving it, beautiful place and the Danes are just fantastic people,
hope Agger stays and we sign even more of these Danish guys to sign for us and we get Carlsberg back as our shirt sponser. Spent today one one of the massive beaches here with the family. Hope all is going well with LFC, looking forward to the start of the season, to 'we go again' - made up Gerrard retired from the England rubish. Take care all and Eds - take a holiday or at least a day off!

can anyone tell me how much did origi cost us?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

10 Million pounds according to ssn

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it was more like £11m, but they agreed around 900k to take him back on loan for a year. Odd way of doing things, but it gets there in the end I guess!}

29 Jul 2014 22:01:10
Yes I can.

Agree0 Disagree0

6 mill with add ons rising to 10 mil apparently! Think this will be a good signing! The kid seems intelligent so ihopehe has an excellent year at lille. I'm sure he will though!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes that is odd Ed - I would've though they would've included that in the transfer - still not complaining.

According to reports, Liverpool have met Bayern Munich's £17m valuation of Swiss winger Xherdan Shaqiri.

Liverpool have apparently also agreed personal terms with the young star, meaning that a move to Anfield appears imminent for the talented midfielder.

Shaqiri had reportedly been willing to stay and fight for his place at the Allianz Arena, however Pep Guardiola refused to give him the assurances of first team action that he was looking for.

Believable0 Unbelievable14

Hope these reports you heard are not true, imo we don't need another winger, a LB and quality striker would be enough until jan at least

Agree6 Disagree2

Where are these reports coming from? Hope it's true :-D! Doubt it though!

Ed's with the signing of origi (and loan back to Lille) I think we need to look to sign an older more experienced forward (like Lambert) in the 28-30 range that can start this year and then play a backup role. Next year we will have Sturridge origi as starters and Ibe pushing his way into the team. That's a lot of exciting young talent and we shouldn't be looking to bring in a big name that we will have to accommodate when we have these great players I think we'd all rather see. So another forward and a left back (so flannagan can play right back) and I'd be happy with our transfer business. I'm looking at next year as a bit of a rebuilding year. We'll be competitive but I don't look for us to win the league. If we can maintain champions league and maybe win fa or league cup I'd say its a great season that should allow us to have a great and experienced team to make a title push in 2015-3016 season

Simple question, wouldn't mind 01 to answer as well as posters. Should we be so quick to disregard Coates. Let's look at the time line. When bought, he was regarded as an up and coming star in South America. Winning the young player of te tournament at copa America. Under kenny, he very rarely got a game, and when as his appearances were so far an few between, the guy looked on egg shells any time he got a game. Then I think many will remember the Oldham game, in which their big cf bullied our back four, and to be honest, not one of our defenders came out of that with any glory, I remember people calling or skrtle to be sold after that. Then the knee injury that put him out for the season as well as his loan move. Now we are here in pre season, and well, he's looking pretty damn good! Maybe because the pressure is off, he's expecting to move and doesn't care? Allowing him to relax and play his game. Despite his lack of speed, I see many many pros to his game. Heading, obviously, he is strong, his long legs make it hard to go around him, his position is great, he's techniqually very good and comftable on the ball, aswell as a good passer, who doesn't mind throwing a long diag now and then. So my conclusion, I'd like to give him a shot. I'd like sakho and lovren as our cbs, with ilori to replace rcb and Coates lcb if either of those two miss a game. Sorry for the long winded post, but I really think he deserves a chance?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he is an excellent player technically, but he falls to pieces when it gets rough and fast. Sorry but I don't see any signs of him making it with us the way we play. Waste of time judging in friendlies, Voronin looked top class in them in previous years, so anyone can do.}

Too slow, too clumsy, not good enough.
You can't judge players on Pre season friendliest, he's been around long enough to win over Managers and Fans,,, time he moved on

Agree4 Disagree1

It wouldn't surprise me if he excelled in the Italian League.

Agree7 Disagree0

How fast was sammie and carra, all he needs is game time in the prem, when he came here he was very young at least give him the same chance as johson gets, I don't know why GJ isstill at the club, he is getting worse each season, I really can't waite for him to go as it will free up his wages and his spot in the team

Agree1 Disagree2

30 Jul 2014 01:37:36
V quick t criticise Coates , looks decent whereas Johnson should be arrested for impersonating a defender!

Dbol, clumsy? You must be talking about your posts, as he's far from clumsy.

Hi Ed(s)

Many thanks for your hard work, I know it is still early to start panicking but I have.

Can you see us signing a very good striker or an attacking midfielder who can score goals i.e are we going to sign a goal scoring machine

Thanks

Believable2 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - so what do you call Lambert, Markovic and Lallana? Nothing like supporting our players is there??}

I think it's a fair point Ed. I can only see Sturridge getting over 15 goals this season for us. No doubt he'll be the main man this season, this isn't knocking any of the players we've got but there's only one out and out goal scorer in the team now. I can see us bringing another in

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he didn't ask that, he asked if we were going to bring in good strikers and attacking midfielders. So his point was little more than a ridiculous bitch at the players we brought in. By the way, having two players scoring over 15 goals each won us sweet FA. It is the teams with lots of scorers taking a share of the scoring that win trophies, not those reliant on a couple of strikers, usually.}

A sub, a wide man and a midfielder

Agree1 Disagree1

Hi Ed(s)
I did not mean it that way what so ever, I like all our players and will always support any player wearing the red shirt.

and my point was to see if we are after a better player than what we have already signed.

Sorry for any misunderstanding and many thanks for all of you for the hard work

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - ah ok, well that depends on your point of view and opinion really.}

29 Jul 2014 18:29:29
Hi Ed001, do I remeber you saying it was your 40th birthday today? If so . happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Ed001, happy birthday to you!

Believable7 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, you have a great memory, it has been a good day too. Just got back from seeing Transformers 4, which was boss, to us signing a new striker, which is even more boss.}

Happy Birthday Ed001
Thanks for your commitment to this site

Agree7 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate. It is still my baby, I am just hoping this baby doesn't suddenly grow up and talk about 'hot boys' while I am in earshot!}

29 Jul 2014 21:37:09
Transformers 4?! Oh deary me Ed001, clearly your judgement and knowledge of films isn't as good as your football haha!

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - I grew up on Transformers! Not keen on the previous one, but this one was much better than any of the other 3. I am guessing you haven't seen it so are in no position to be anything other than judgemental! You sound like my daughter, she didn't want to go either, but loved it.}

29 Jul 2014 21:54:18
What about hot strikers Ed001? ;p

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - if they were hot, I am sure my daughter would suddenly develop a proper interest in football!}

29 Jul 2014 22:01:22
You know a lot more about football than films, because Transformers is an abomination to the medium of cinema.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - have you seen the new one? Or are you another judgemental type who decides something is crap without even taking a look? I enjoyed it, and not just because the woman sat next to me was stunning either, though that might have helped.....a little.}

Yeah Ed001 happy birthday! Your comments are always top notch, keep it up!

29 Jul 2014 22:43:07
maybe LFC fans just love to argue as part of their nature?

Agree1 Disagree1

Happy B'day Ed, cheers for all the hard work!

Although, I have seen the new Transformers film, and I thought it was roundly terrible. 2.5 hours of action scene with some dialogue bolted in to string the scenes together. And Mark Wahlberg looking confused and annoyed for the entirety.

That being said, there is nothing cooler in the history of everything than Optimus Prime riding a giant metal dinosaur, so swings and roundabouts really!

Agree0 Disagree0

Many happy returns Ed01!

Being of an age growing up on the Transformer cartoons, I disliked the films, yet am compelled to watch them.

My favourite Transformer was Jazz, so I was gutted how the first film effectively reduced his rank and killed him off.

What was your favourite Transformer Eds and reds?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - my favourite was always Grimlock, he was thick but what is cooler than a dinosaur who could kick anyone's arse???}

29 Jul 2014 23:06:27
Please ed001 don't be one of those who decides that because someone says they don't like something you do, they mustn't have seen it! It's just as bad as judging something before having seen it! You're better than that man!

{Ed001's Note - if you say so.}

Very Happy Birthday Ed001. Appreciate all the work you put into the best rumours site on the net. Always look forward to your comments. Have a cracking day!

Happy B-day, Ed! Like you I grew up on Transformers BUT I disagree, T4 wasn`t as good as the last trilogy. Anyway, Happy B-day!

Hi Ed - can't wait to see the transformers film now and happy birthday.

On a serious note do you see Brendan Rodgers as an Autobot or Decepticon? ;o)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - hmmmm good question, as he is on my team that depends on whether I see myself as an Autobot or Decepticon? I am going to go with Autobot as they win....}

Ed001 your starting to sound like comic shop guy from the simpsons, I have seen it and optimus is way more agressive he must have been watching suarez biting players, dawn of the apes I 3d was great

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I haven't seen Simpsons in years! Is the Apes better than the previous Apes film? That was woeful.}

30 Jul 2014 08:04:43
I have seen it, I am a film and media teacher, thus I get free tickets regularly. I recommend Boyhood, a masterpiece from Linklater.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - ah a film snob! I recommend you stop trying to teach and start just enjoying a bit of mindless fun sometimes. Nothing wrong with enjoying a bit of fluff in a film, action films should be about the action, not a story. A story is just there to create more action, nothing more. That is what T4 did well, lots of action, so who cares about the story? I don't watch a film to be preached to or get a message, bad enough I have to take my daughter along to watch films like 'Fault In Our Stars' or films of a similar rom-com vein because she loves them. I just want to be entertained, I don't want to think, I just want to switch off credibility and relax. That is why comic book movies are amongst my favourites.}

Ed001
Although t4 was pretty awesome (like on another level) you need to go watch the dictator
pure comic gold

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - really? That the film by the guy who did Ali G? If so I didn't enjoy it.}

as we know Liverpool fc tried to sign on alexis sanchez offering 35 million . Unfortunately it chose arsenal . but what we demonstrates that Liverpool is still looking for a world class player with qualities similar to suarez. , I'm sure the club will sign a player like: Reus, Lavezzi, ISCO . kind of player who will pay 30 . 40 million. very excited

Hi Ed. Have heard rumours norwegian super talent called odengaard (15years old). Liverpool scouts have checked him 3 times. Real Madrid have place bid for him around 12 mil euros. Do you know if some of suarez money could be use for him? Biggest talent in scandinavia of all time. (better than zlatan, litmanen, laudrub, larsson that age)

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Stromsgodset's Martin Odegaard has been linked with a move to Celtic to continue working with Ronny Delia who left Norway to take over in Glasgow, and now that Deila has brought in his development manager from Stromsgodset, Haakan Lunov, it looks like Celtic's chances in enticing the youngster to Glasgow have taken a turn for the better.}

Believable4 Unbelievable2

29 Jul 2014 18:09:02
Just wanted to put it out there for all to debate, anyone else quietly optimistic about the new season as I am? I have my concerns abd worries which is natural human behaviour but regardless of that maybe because I'm a red I find more to be optimistic about than worry about, will we miss Suarez? Do we miss our gorgeous exes? Yes sometimes but life goes on and life can be better without the ex sweetheart/person ha, I believe that we are a proper team in that if one person cones out if the side then another can come in abd the team won't lose shape or it's way of playing, obviously the teams effectiveness may be affected but that's a whole new discussion, digressing slightly I apologise, anyway back to the original point I feel our start to the season will be key, nothing but a win on opening day will do due to our next few fixtures, man city away and spurs away are not the ideal away trips to start with, but if we can get 7 - 9 points from our first 3 games then that really will set us up for the season, anyone else excited or concerned it could go the opposite way and add pressure to us? Thoughts please guys?

Believable11 Unbelievable4

The start throws up 4 fixtures in which we collected just 4 pts last season. And the chances of winning 6-0 at Spurs again are slim! I'd take two home wins and 2 draws at City and Spurs all day long.

Agree2 Disagree0

The "do we miss out gorgeous exes" made me laugh out loud

Then I seen your picture and some wee came out

Agree3 Disagree0

Would love to be mate but I still can not understand why with a few weeks before the season starts we have not yet secured a left back and an additional striker. For all borini offers and in my opinion this is limited, yes he scored a few goals at Sunderland but to be fair his first touch is shocking, his overall vision akin to aspas and we are challenging or meant to be for champions league football and some silver wear, borini is not what we need, we need a game changer. We will not get a luis replacement but we need a player who can score form nothing, someone with the audacity to take chances etc. this is lacking and a concern.

Agree1 Disagree1

I have to say that this season I have absolutely no idea what to expect, I do think the start will be key, as a poor one will ramp up the pressure, I suppose anything lower than fourth would be a disappointment, but realistically you'd expect Chelsea and City to take two places, I also can see united being top after six games and their confidence will grow under a good manager, arsenal will be there or thereabouts, so all in all a very exciting season.we really need everyone to get behind the team, especially with so many newcomers, and stay behind them even if results don't go our way early on.my prediction for first six games WLDWWD

Agree2 Disagree0

Citys squad is much more settled and potentially even more effective than last season. Our new boys will really have to hit the ground running to get a result at the etihad, but you have to keep hoping. We will gel more and get stronger as the season goes on, so hopefully we can make a decent start. Lots of new additions is always a worry in terms of team performance, but hopefully we will come roaring out of the blocks against the saints, and just keep going.

29 Jul 2014 20:37:53

regarding borini, he proved on his loan spell he can score goals in the prem and that was only last season, when he was with our team he had suarez in his way so balls went to suarez instead of borini if he stays with us this season and has a run of games then I think he will score even more goals, but that's just me, he is a good penalty taker too, last season he scored 10 goals 7 in the prem and 3 in the cup, it tells me the lad knows where the back of the net is, in the Liverpool side he will get even more chances, I wonder what his conversion rate was, plus if a team is willing to pay £14 mil for him then they must know he is a goal scorer, well we will find out if he stays with us, I hope he gets his chance over 10 goals from him would help cut suarez's loss

Believable8 Unbelievable7

He won't get the chances.brendan would likely sign another striker making him 4th choice.

Agree2 Disagree2

Lord no, no no no.

He is at very best a squad player, hopefully sunder lands squad. I mean this no way disrespectfully but he is not a strong enough player for us. Wayward running, lack of pace, poor decision making and a real knack of scuffing shots. Plus he is 23 and I've seen no sign of a strikers instinct. Hard working no doubt but not up to it

Agree0 Disagree6

29 Jul 2014 21:02:21
The finish against city shows his quality in front of goal.

Agree1 Disagree0

His goal vs city was well taken but watch how many chances he scuffs, shanks and slices or simply mis controls the ball and looses the shooting chance, this is the difference between a mediocre and prolific striker. If he was 17/8/9 you could argue he is still learning but he's 24(?) and to be honest at that age most players have hit the peak of their natural ability. This ain't a criticism, just my opinion And I'd love for him to prove me wrong this year, just can't see it happening

Agree1 Disagree3

Spot on North Down Red. It's the wayward running that frustrates me more than anything and as you say there's just no strikers instinct.

Agree3 Disagree5

{Ed001's Note - I am sorry but wayward running? That is insanity. His runs are his strongest feature, he has fantastic movement in the box. It was a lack of ability to spot them by his team mates that saw him suffer.}

Rodgers needs to sit him down and tell him he won't get game time and it would be better for him to go

Agree0 Disagree1

Amen, Ed! Borini`s runs and movement are sublime. Playing with Couts, Sterling and Gerard will give him more scoring opps. I still believe in this kid and unlike the other "fans", I will not give up on him until he proves me wrong.

Agree1 Disagree1

30 Jul 2014 09:56:07
Agreed. I used to sit screaming at the computer 'Put him through' but most of the time the easier option was taken.
I hope he gets a run of games this season, he shouldn't be short of Ammo with Lallana, Sterling and Coutinho pinging balls to him. Borini was also injured by the time Coutinho came along, so during most of the time he was fit and with us, we didn't really have a playmaker to ping those kinds of balls into him.

Only ever a positive poster, so don't want to buck that trend. Very happy the direction the club is going in. Young, hungry, felxible players being brought in for BR's master plan. But 10 mil (as the numbers are being reported) for someone who has only scored a hand full of goals in 40 games, and then being loaned back?! This is the only transfer that I question. Seems frivolous.
He looked confident in the World Cup, and he scored obviously, kept Lukaku out of the team for the most part, and has played a number of positions.

But 10 mill?

Regardless, I will support anyone in a red shirt that puts 100% into there game.

BR and his scouts must have seen something in him.

Welcome to the greatest club in the world.

Believable6 Unbelievable7

29 Jul 2014 18:41:56
You have to realise he was playing out wide for Lille. Hopefully he will get a central role this season for them.

Agree2 Disagree0

Is all the money up front though? If not then it doesn't matter. We won't be buying as many players in years to come. Hopefully just a starter and a top notch kid each year. The average age of the squad is ridiculously young and about to get younger as Reina, Agger, Johnson, Lucas and Toure leave over the next 12 months or so.

Agree1 Disagree0

The world cup will have a lot do with the inflation of the price.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know what you're talking about to be honest mate. £10mil seems like a coup for me and I fully expect Origi to be worth at least double this time next year, he's a bit raw but from what I've seen of him he has all the rudiments of a truly great striker.

I personally would like to see Johnson moved on if possible but sounds like we are struggling to find any takers due to his high wages. I think fullbacks are an area we could definitely use an upgrade in but apart from that I am quite happy with the team we have got atm. Will be tough to get top 4 again but I'm hopeful of a good season + looking forward to being back in the champions league again.

Agree1 Disagree1

Apparently we have been looking at him for a long time Davey.
If so, then it is not just a knee jerk world cup fever thing.
I would be more happy to have him this season to be honest.
I think we need either a player that provides goals and assists to go with what we have already.
Maybe Ibe is that player who knows!

Agree2 Disagree0

I wasn't suggesting it was world cup fever and sure he could become a great signing. But if the idea was to spread the goals through out the team, strikers' values are based on their goal return, of which, his is only a few, very few assists too.
Again I won't judge the guy until I see him play more often, and as long as he is a red, I support the guy, but the stats are not doing him any favours.

Agree0 Disagree2

29 Jul 2014 17:31:17
It looks like Origi deal is done with him going back on loan to Lille. I am happy with this signing. I enjoyed watching him at the World Cup and have a feeling he will do very well for LFC once he starts with us next year.
I will also say that I am happy with all our other signings so far and feel our attacking options are much greater now than they were a year ago. Still some work to do in this window but I am still as excited now at 50 yrs old as I was as a young boy for the season to start. Roll on the 17th, quickly.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

From the matches I saw him in the world cup (especially the knockout rounds - please note Stella may have impacted my judgement slightly) that he didn't receive particularly good service / opportunities - something he would get game in game out with us.

No1 knows how he will trurely turn out but he has the attributes; also playing in Europe and getting lots of game time next season might actually be more beneficial than being with us this season.

Time will tell

Agree1 Disagree0

He reminded me more of Sturridge than anyone else I can think of.

I for one am very pleased with the signing of Divock Origi, he was class at the world cup, reminded me a bit of a young Thierry Henry with his pace & skill, his finishing could use some work but it will come, he's only 19, he's gunna be a class addition and worth at least triple what we paid for him in the future at least imo

I wonder if Sandro would become available if they complete the signing of Morgan Schneiderlin? They'd be completely stocked in central midfield.

If Lucas were to leave for Napoli then he could be a good addition. Don't really think we should make to many changes now as we already have 5 in! But just a thought, a player I like. Doubt Spurs would sell to us and if they did would except a hefty fee!

Believable2 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Sandro may well be leaving.}

I was thinking this the other day, sandro would be perfect for us but I don't think levy would sell to us cheaply

29 Jul 2014 16:12:47
I must say that even though I am less optimistic about the coming season than some of the people here (but hope I am wrong), one thing I have to give credit to BR is the amounts of optimism and good energey he produces. I think LFC suffered two big traumas recently, one is not winning the league after being so close, and second losing Suarez. While this could have been overwhelming for some managers, this didn't seem to affect BR who is full fo smiles and continues to spread very good spirits and confidence around him and this seems to affect the team which from what we here seem to be in a good mood. We will have to see how all this hold if and when results are not going our way - clearly this year we have more to lose - and the competition at the top seems like is going to be fierce . But starting the season with confidence and optimism despite Suarez going is important (for me to be as optimistic as him though I would need one more big signing, the kind of Vidal/Gaidan/Rues - but let's hope I am wrong and the youngsters will do the job)

Believable5 Unbelievable6

I can't agree with any of this.

Coming 2nd was better than expected and losing suarez was expected and the price we got was better than expected. Suarez re negotiation was specific and tailored for this move. They knew it would happen even before the Jaws 3 incident.

BR would have to show optimism and energy. it happens to be a part of his job and lfc pay him very well.

We will do fine this season!

Agree9 Disagree0

Tbh if I was getting paid millions to manage a football team I would be smiling in my sleep let alone on the training field.

Agree2 Disagree0

I think Suarez has been good for some of the players development; Sterling has come on so much that a year ago he was a good young player to last year being an incredible player capable of being world class.

If the players can carry on and get better and with the new arrivals it could be a real interesting season; especially as a number of players can play in different formations / positions; we may have a real chance this season if we get off to a good start; IMO that will be key to where we end up at the end of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on. That`s the sign of great player. Suarez made his teamates better. He made Studge, Raheem, Couts and Hendo better players. He especially had a brilliant on-field relationship w/ Sterling.

Hi eds, a lot is being said about a new striker, but with the wingers system we play do we really need one? Could we give it a go till jan? maybe just let jordon Ibe have more playing time as he has baggs of potential.what do you think? Would be good to hear your opinion.i can't wait for the season to start, hopefully we're as exciting to watch as last season. Come on the red men! Amazing site guys!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I think an option such as Remy would have been good - Lacazette, Huntelaar might also bring options. Origi, we'll see.}

As you know Ed I'm quite a fan of Lukaku, could we look to him now that Remy is not happening? Were we ever interested?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - It seems unlikely Chris given no previous interest.}

Hi Ed001, a question for your experience and opinion if I may regarding Borini.

Whenever I have seen him play his movement off the ball is excellent as is his workrate. What I can't quite understand though is why, when he is making brilliant runs at times, do his teammates not play him in? They always seem to choose another option and I was wondering if you knew why or had an opinion on it?

Maybe he never scores enough in training or similar? He will never get the quantity of goals unless this cvhanges.

Many thanks

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - because the other choice was usually Suarez.}

Hi Ed, thanks for replying. I should have been more specific. I meant more in these pre-season games etc when Borini has played as the main striker

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 14:43:28
If there thinking of signing Origi for this season instead of bringing another striker in we can kiss top 4 goodby!
U can't replace Suarez with nobody, Sturridge has proven he's injury prone and is more loyal to England then Liverpool, hence his comments last year.

We can't just rely on Sturridge, lallana is a great signing but him being injured is going to leave us very short against Tottenham & city away.

Right now were going to be starting the season with no Suarez replacement, I know our spending isn't done yet but getting CL football AND getting 75m for Suarez without buying another top striker?
Does not make sence to me atall.

Believable6 Unbelievable17

Lambert, Borini? You seem to have forgot about 2 other strikers we have on the books.

Also, we are changing the system this season so instead of playing with 2 strikers it will only be 1 with 2 wide forwards.

That is where Markovic, Lallana Sterling, Ibe and Coutinho come into it.
Goals will be spread around the team and I have every confidence these guys will chip in to cover the loss of Suarez.

Why the negativity!

I do think phil can step up. If he could just be a bit more consistent.

Agree1 Disagree0

I don't no who? But if City sold Aguero and if UTD sold RVP for 75m and replaced them with Markovic and lambert we'd all be laughing are heads off at them.

Agree4 Disagree2

We already have a top striker in sturridge and another very good backup in lambert.bony would have been great but he's too expensive

Agree0 Disagree0

Benny. SAF once replaced three big hitters with a gang of kids and never looked back. Everyone thought he was mad. Depends on the quality of the players surely? You seem to forget we had the PLs second top scorer as well. And Sterling (one of the best players in any team from Feb onwards) got 10 and wasn't a regular until Dec.

Agree2 Disagree0

United would be laughing for selling van Persie for 75 mil.

Reminds me of January this "if we don't sign an attacking midfielder we can kiss goodbye to top 4"

Agree3 Disagree0

BennyC
It's all well and good to say we'd be laughing at them but the reality is who would they replace those players with?
Don't you see it's time to create some new world class players? They have to come from somewhere, they were all a Markovic once

Agree1 Disagree0

That is a midnight on the 30th August post!
We are all going to dieeeeeeeee

Agree1 Disagree0

Why don't we all be a bit patient? the window is still open and will be for a while yet, even if we don't buy anyone we still have good players, let's back them eh! once the new lads settle and get to know what is expected and needed we will be able to judge.

Agree0 Disagree0

I see Lavezzi is being linked to LFC. He is the kind of forward player BR likes. Plays exactly Suarez and Sanchez in that he could be played in a front two or wide. Presses high too! Runs in behind and towards play! He would suit LFC really well. Only issue is age but I suppose you could make an exception as there isn't another player of this style out there.

No player in the world plays like Suarez, he is truly One of a kind!

Good dayfellow Eds and reds,

Just a quick point on some of the abuse from posters regarding some of our current players.

Seriously guys, no matter how much you dislike a player the over the top comments made about LFC players is just bang out of order; a lot of the times the player will prove you wrong ala Henderson, Lucas, Flanno etc. if the player can't make that step up, at least the poor guy tried; he doesn't deserve the rubbish and abuse spouted on here by some.

we should be supporting all of our players! and want them to do the best they can for LFC. If they fail, thank you and move on!

But for some; for goodness sake just give them a chance! I really like Borini, his game is not just about goals, it is his off the ball movement, and game intelligence which is great, and given the chance I really hope he shoves humble pie down some of the posters throats! yes he is not a marquee player but the lad will give his all in a game which is all you could want from a player; what would you rather have, a lazy luxury player or one who grafts like a trooper playing his heart out for the full 90?

People who spout on about these marquee players etc need to realise that this is Liverpool football club, we are a team, not a team of individuals; we win as a team, and lose as a team; it is the moving parts of the team who contribute towards our victories and losses; and as long as we have this team ethic we will succeed.

This whole situation is like de ja vu with the whole Henderson saga.

For Goodness sake some you just need to take a chill pill.

Peace out!

Well said mate. Germany don't have a "marquee" player. Just a team of "troopers". Borini is very similar in style (although not as good) to Thomas Müller. He will be great for us next season if he is given a shot. Can't wait for him to prove everyone wrong.

Agree5 Disagree3

Hi EMS mate;

Totally agree with you; as per one of my previous posts this obsession some have of a marquee signing is just OTT! these are the same people who then argue that if we buy X and Y player, then how come we aren't giving the youth players a chance etc etc You just can't please some of the people on here no matter what they do!

I wish all of our new players success with the club.

Boys totally with you yeah on the whole supporting your players. I backed Hendo and Lucas to the hilt but sometimes you have to be realistic.

I would love Borini to come good but sometimes things just don't work out. Similar to Aspas. I think 14mil or whatever is very good business for a player who has struggled. Bring some youth through instead.

Hendo and Lucas are also different to Borini as he is judged on goals and assists and we can't afford to be to nice about it. I was up for givin him another season to make a decision in the hope he wil come good but maybe we move on.

Agree2 Disagree0

Great post. Some supporters don't know how to support!

Agree2 Disagree0

Good post Red Sanity
I'm not one for constantly having a go at our players but when one in particular shows a total lack of effort and his performances have been consistently poor, ( not to mention his contract situation where is he is assured of starting! ) this is in my opinion a fair enough reason for us to vent our frustration.
Saying that if he starts against Southampton I will still support him for 90 minutes.
Flanno is an improvement to last seasons right back, get a replacement for Flanno at left back and we are almost there.

Agree2 Disagree0

Completely agree, and it goes as much for Borini as players like Johnson/Enrique, who have been written off by some fans who are so keen to see young players brought through they're willing to slag others off

Agree1 Disagree1

Borini with all his movement and workrate isn't the quality we need next season.if sturridge and lambert are both injured, borini leading the line doesn't fill me with confidence

Believable4 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - yes, he is good enough.}

ED's :How is Rossiters physique? The lad is still very young and I'm worried about putting to much on him early.

Gerrrard struggled with injuries early on (From growth problems?) and Owen was propably also being slightly overused.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - hard to say, he seems fine physically, but the injuries come with growth spurts usually. Not sure if he will stay short, or if he is a late bloomer, in which case he will have to be used sparingly.}

Hey after failing the Remy deal I think Lacazette will be a good option. He fast like Remy can score goals, he's younger and a better dribbler. He will cost more however the highlight video I've seen from him a few of his goals were because of a bad goalkeeper. What are your thoughts? :)

Believable5 Unbelievable0

29 Jul 2014 13:21:45
I think Lacazette would be a good option also mate. A few reports now though are saying that Origi could be with us this season and not go back to Lille on loan. Eds has said that hs price would obviously go up but it sounds possible.

Agree0 Disagree1

If we keep Origi at the club for next season, Lacazette is not an option worth considering for at least a year after we've seen how Lambert gets on. I think that was the plan with Origi. He get's a year of football whilst we see if Lambert can up his game and maintain his fitness. I could be wrong. Just seems as though that was the plan:

Sturridge, Remy, Lambert (Origi).

Lambert retires, Origi comes back in. Instead we will now have:

Sturridge, Origi, Lambert

Lambert retires, we move for another player (Lacazette etc.)

People here must consider that Lambert has a severe back problem that limits his playing time and he will not prolong his career and risk permanent damage.

Perhpas Borini will just stay though and spend a year competing for a wide role, and then when Lambert retires in 1-2 years, we already have the replacement. Who knows? We can only speculate.

Agree1 Disagree0

The fact is the club accepted a bid for Borini. However we dress it up we were happy to let him go for just a small profit (if that considering wages/input ratio). If he was the answer or has a long-term future we would have issued a firm hands off surely?

what is a cheeky bid? my understanding if the reports are true the offer is around 18m which is not cheap for a 29 year old player that wants out and his club looking to sell .
Also I hope we learnt by now cheeky bids are nothing but a waste of time , how many times we lost out when we offered way below the asking price . just look back at last year's posts

As Ed002 has said, he is purely just holding out for a better contract (wages/length) and has no intention to move clubs. Even if he did LFC would not be spending that amount of money on him regardless of the fact that he would want to come to the club in the first place. Your better just forgetting about a player of this level/status coming in as you will only be disappointed when it doesn't happen.

Vidal gave an interview to a Chilean newspaper last week saying he would not be playing in Manchester - he wants CL football. Hi eds, question for banter page. How is it felt that those responsible for transfers have performed so far this summer? Ian Ayre got plenty of abuse in the past most likely from those who don't understand the complexities of transfers. I think so far so good. Key signings in early and more ambition shown in calibre of signing. BR is definitely beginning to put his stamp on the squad which has not been easy considering the majority of players at his disposal to date were signed by 3 prior regimes. Particularly interested in ed01's view, thanks

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Liverpool tried to do business early last season but failed to close many deals , the big difference from last year is being back in the champions league which makes it easier to convince players to join and allow us to spend a bit more. As for the calibre of signing ; this is open to debate that need to be had at the end of the season, for me I don't think anyone signed is better than Coutinho or Sturridge, but I am looking forward to seeing them play and be proven wrong.
The criticism Ian got last year was unjustified , people were quick to forget he brought in a couple of good young players for a decent price

Exactly what I have been saying Ed001. We have Sterling who IMO would be a fantastic CF if played there. With Lambert and Borini along with a great selection of youngsters and Origi coming next season (when actually signed) is sufficient.
I think we will set up with Sturridge up top being supported by Sterling and Markovic and Couthino AM. So really it would see the other strikers benched Including any new arrival.
What do you think Ed?

Markovic as well

Agree1 Disagree0

BR plays revolving tactics.

We press in one formation, defend in another, with the wide men swopping sides, depending on how the game is going and who we are up against, and there formation

Henderson, and probably Can will press which allow the likes of Lallana, Markovic, Sterling, Countiho, or whoever happens to be on the pitch to press the 18 yard box and join in the attack

we don't play 4-4-2

Agree2 Disagree0

Sterling is going to score goals, he is developing so quickly into an incredible player - I personally think his goal tally will double this season.

Though we have some good youngsters, I doubt BR will be happy with just 3 outandout strikers in the squad given his comments about Jovetic last season. United and City both have 4 strikers they'd have no hesitation about trusting in the first team; Arsenal have 3 plus Sanogo. We have 2 plus Borini who we all hope will make it as a Red but, in complete honesty, is yet to show he can be trusted to play to the required level in a Liverpool shirt. His equivalent in other squads is Sanogo/Zaha at United/Guidetti at City. a good player but yet to prove himself. And all of these teams also have talented kids. So I agree that we could use a 4th striker in the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Plus, Borini's been injured for most of his time here, and if the season started today we'd only have 2 fit strikers to choose from.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, I think that Sterling could go from being a wide player to a very good CF, just like Thierry Henry did.

However I think he'll be with us for 2 more seasons at the most.

Hi Ed's

Yesil - Has he gone to Turkey? Do you think he will recover from his injuries, so much was thought of this guy when we bought him, how did he perform before the second injury?

If he hasn't gone, any chance we would not buy anyone and give him a chance in a few games or is that too risky?

Thanks

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't know to be honest mate. It is very rare a player with his injury history ever recovers though.}

It will be a great shame for the lad if those cruel injuries ruin what potentially was a great future.
I hope all goes well for him.

Hey ed's and reds,
As I get the feeling that Mr ed001 was not a great advocate of remy!
I was just curious as to who ed001 would realistically go for as our backup striker/winger?
It's seems like lacazette might be a viable option and he certainly has the versatility required, the only worry there is how quick he can adapt and the fee.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated
Thanks

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - personally I would save the money and give Ibe and Dunn etc a chance, if need be. I am just thankful we didn't get lumbered with Remy the mercenary to be honest.}

Tend to agree with ed on this one tbh as Ibe looks very good but just needs to be given the chance like Sterling was, I've not seen to much of Dunn to comment but it looks like Borini will stay so that gives us Sturridge, Lambert & Borini with youngsters available if the price is right I would go for El Sharaway as I think he would do very well for us or even Luis Muriel.

Agree1 Disagree1

That does make sense tbh ed001 especially as getting someone from abroad is always a bigger risk.
Just one last thing what is your view on borini and his possible role/future with lfc.
Personally I love is attitude so I would always back him in an lfc shirt, however I do feel he just lacks that bit of quality to play for a top end epl side.
Thanks again

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I think he has great movement in the box and the potential to be an excellent predator. I am not convinced he is suited to playing wide though, despite his workrate, which almost makes up for the weaknesses in his game out there. If he gets the chance to play centrally alongside Sturridge, I think they could be a good combination. He has Suarez's work ethic, he doesn't have his skills though, but we have improved elsewhere to take the burden a little off the striker's shoulders. I would like to see him given a chance, see if he can make the grade given a decent run in the team. At the very least he provides a completely different option from the others in our side, so it allows us more flexibility.

Unfortunately for him, I am not convinced he will get the chance to prove it, but then who would have thought Hendo would after being set up to go to Fulham? Maybe he can follow that example and make himself a valued member of the team, just like Henderson has become.}

As always ed001 good reply and I agree with your points. I was going to mention the Hendo Fulham situation as well. If anything JH and flanno are an example to all the fringe players of what working hard and believing in yourself can achieve and from me personally their the players I like to see with the liver bird on their chest.
But whoever is representing our great club I will always support.

Have to agree with what your saying ed, however I still think that he will be sold this summer, let's hope whoever fills his spot has the same work ethic

hi all, a question, what has happened to all the so-called young talent everyone has been bleating about on here over the last 2 years, everyone on here was saying Liverpool had the best acadamy in england, stars for the future, blah, blah, everytime I pick up a newspaper another so-called young star is on his way out and lfc are now being mocked and called scousehampton, liverhampton ect ect, so what happened, was it a case of deluded fans blowing their own tuneless trumpet, just asking, that's all

Believable2 Unbelievable21

Flanagan kelly sterling robinson coady rossiter peterson ibe suso carlos texiara are all players to have come/coming up the ranks within the last 2 years, be patient.

Agree9 Disagree1

Martin Kelly, englands future RB or CB graduated and has played 30 games, it would be a lot more if not for his injuries

I believe you may have been introduced to sterling

Agree1 Disagree1

Jon flannagan played 23 games last year.

Agree2 Disagree0

They can mock all they want, we finished second last season and have added strength to our squad.

Sterling and Flanagan play in our first team, Kelly has had some bad injuries but is still a good player, hopefully will recover his form.

Wisdom is going on loan to WBA, is still young and will be a good RB/CB, Suso is class just has a lot of competition, as is Ibe.

We also have lots of younger talent like Wilson, Sinclair, Trickett-smith, Rossiter, Robinson, Phillips and many more who are potentially very good, some players don't reach potential some do, not every player needs to burst onto the scene at 17/18.

Which players are you on about in particular that have left, that have been hyped?

Agree2 Disagree0

So just wondering if you missed Flanno, sterling, suso, wisdom, ibe that have all played for the first team with distinction in the last 2 years? Brad smith also came on as a sub against Chelsea & is rated highly by the club but isn't in the same league as the likes of shaw but is a potential lb of the future for us. Then there's McLaughlin who although being constantly held back by the management is a key performer at rb in our u21's an is regularly
called up by the Ireland team he represents. Add to that 16 year old harry Wilson that played in a world cup qualifier for Wales & isn't even the 2nd or 3rd biggest talent in our u18's. Then there's Rossiter, who will no doubt captain Liverpool in the same way pogba would of (if you could have hung onto him). Then there's brannigan who looks to have the qualities but may get lost in the cue. There are players like chirivella who is Spain's u18 captain I believe too. Center back Lloyd Jones could also start to challenge within 2 years. However, we do not have the best academy in the country, we have a clear pathway into our first team unlike the other big clubs in England which is making is more attractive than city, Chelsea, utd to younger players meaning that the ones not motivated my money see us a better chance to get games in our first team meaning we can buy the best talent which is what we did with most of the players I've named

Agree1 Disagree0

Bless you. What an embarrassing post.

Do you expect all of our youngsters to just burst on the scene at one time and go straight into the starting line up?

Little by little youngsters are integrated into the team.

Raheem Sterling - came through the academy to become one of the best wide players in the league at only 19 years old.

Jon Flanagan - Came in and done an excellent job last season. So good that a lot of fans are calling for him to be first choice right back.

This year will probably see Jordan Ibe have an opportunity to come in and do well, Etc etc.

Our young players will do well, maybe if you ask this question in 5 years time, we can see if they made it or not, but the question is a little premature.

As for Southampton, we have strengthened our side with some top players that were available at a club struggling financially. It was well known that their best players were available before the transfer window opened.

Jealousy will get you nowhere mate.

What and where is southamptons pre season tour? Are they off in the other side of the world or close to home? I only ask as I agree with lvg to an extent that the first game of the season you can see bad performances by top teams who have been all over the world!

Actually that poses another question what do people think of pre season tours in Asia America etc. And what do you think of these pre season tournaments?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Southampton has not gone far at all. Liverpool went further but based themselves broadly in one place. Others have varied their plans - having such a long season over recent years and a WC this summer, Chelsea decided against a pre-season tour and gave players a longer break to get ready for the coming season, organising a few games around Europe only. Some other sides seem to have dug a hole with the travel with MU making numerous time consuming short hops and Newcastle heading for New Zealand.}

Yeah I would have said that any major tour should be confined to off summer's so every second year between euros and world cups but I suppose few club's will want to lose out on the commercial revenue and all that jazz

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Right.}

Wenger referred to Arsenal's schedule as impossible. They're driven madly by money nowadays sure, and I mean almost all clubs not just Arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree0

The thing is every year people seem shocked when teams cause upsets in the first couple weeks. Look at Everton they went to Asia and Australia over the last couple years if I'm not mistaken and they are now considered as just slow starters. the tours obviously have a part to play

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't think the tours would effect the teams as bad as Everton have tended to start. I'd say more along the lines of ropey performances the first 3 weeks not 2 months of under performing like Everton.

If you're playing other teams who have had similar pre-season madness then it can even out anyway so you might not necessarily be losing your 1st matches you might just be rustier than you should be. That's what I'd think anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair to Everton, they had a new manager last year and their best striker was a loan signing, so they did very well getting where they were, partly because of Tim Howard

Agree0 Disagree0

Everton did superb last season. The posts were about them starting slowly and Shane said he thinks it's due to pre-season tours them travelling so far.

Morning all.
After trying to get tickets for a game last season which became like gold dust I am now going with my son to the Liverpool v Dortmund friendly.
Can anybody help with best places to park the car?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi there, glad your finally going to experience Anfield. You won't be disapointed! Try and get there nice and early, you will find numerous businesses and schools that open up there grounds for a small fee. If you leave it too late you can park on the strreet but will be some distance from the ground and you will have to pay fee for the neighbours to look after your vehicle

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 10:02:01
There's a secure car park behind maccies on County road that's a fiver and normally has space. There will be loads of people walking by so just follow them up to Anfield and soak up the atmosphere

Agree0 Disagree0

The Vernon Sangster at the back of the Anfield Road charges £6 per match I think, and it's rigt at the back of annie road. If not there then park down streets around The Anfield area, as long as its legal to park there (i.e no double yellows) then you will be sound, but you won't get a spot on any street within a 10 min walk in truth, but the walk to the ground is always good for the atmosphere anyway. I always park near St Johns Primary School, about a 10-15 min walk up to the ground. Its always safe (despite what away fans claim, just to give us a bad name!) i've parked and walked for over 15 years and never had anything happen to the car!

Agree0 Disagree0

I live just off priory road and have a visitors parking permit if you want to use it, it will be under a 5 minute walk to the ground, you can use it free for that game

1) Has Borini officially said no to Sunderland, or is he still thinking it over?

2) I know you hate Qn's about money, but in regards to Lacazette, without mentioning a fee, what Lyon will want for him, would we be able to afford it?

Now this thought came into my mind yesterday
a lot of people want a natural holding midfielder like bender or Martinez in our team?
but does anyone else think that we may be set up in the future with two box to box midfielders and no holding midfielder
gerrard isn't going to stay around for long
so maybe next season a 4-2-1-3 with hendo and can providing the energy and lallana/coutinho being the 1 the creative input
this way when one goes forward the other can stay behind and protect the defense
a bit like Germany with khedira and schweinsteiger (both of whom are b2b midfielders )
alternatively we can see Rossiter being the holding mid?
what does everyone think?posters and ed001
again this just a suggestion

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I think we will just see someone else holding when Gerrard is gone, if Rodgers is still the manager then. Not sure if it will be Rossiter or someone else, but I think he likes to play that way.}

Ed1, I know a football manager's job is always insecure but things really would have to go awfully for Brendan to lose his job in the next couple of years- and I can't see Stevie playing on for much longer than that.

I feel horrible for remy in regards to his dream move being ripped from him and wish him all the best in the rest of his career (just not when he's playing us 0:), but this really could be a blessing in disguise. I have no doubts remy would have been a valuable addition to the squad, but I believe borini needs chances. He needs to be given a run of games and not suffer anymore injury problems. Think about it: in his first season he was pushed to the wing to accommodate suarez. He always looked a little uncomfortable in this position and honestly I think he just let his nerves/pressure get to him. Not to mention suarez was our only have decent player in rodgers'first half season (anybody remember west brom 3-0? I was screaming at Shane long from my couch). Then he got injured right as rodgers was going to apparently give him a more central role (via daily mail) and when he gets back sturridge has arrived. His loan last year showed he can play given the opportunity. He's got potential to be better than remy, his attitude is close to the best I've seen, and he is a good squad player going into next season. He just needs to bulk up a bit and work on his positioning. His dribbling skills and finishing are already pretty good. Remy would have restricted the opportunities for borini(Not to mention origi is probably coming in next year). That being said he'll probably be off to a top 6 Italian side next week now that I've posted this.

Oh and one more thing, borini did not stop the club from signing remy. If we didn't let suarez hold us hostage, why would we let borini ffs.

It's not holding anyone hostage to want the chance you were promised in your contract, and to show real fire and desire to play for your club

Agree3 Disagree0

'Dream move' might be playing for a massive club with huge ambitions and in elite European competition, maybe?

Let's be fair, when we were kids we wanted to play for our dream club, being Liverpool. But not many of us became professional footballers of that standard, if any. But if we had, if we played for a team in the conference for example and got a move to say Nottingham Forest or Leeds United, again, for example, you surely probably see that as a dream move playing for such a historic club and in a much higher standard than where you were before.

Surly that would be a dream ambition, to progress on your merit and performances. So maybe that's what is meant by 'dream move/club'. I don't think it's meant as a boyhood club. But who knows?

Agree4 Disagree0

Really man Shane long? Really?Really?

Agree4 Disagree2

I think that lad we signed two seasons ago should be given a chance personally, what's his name. 'Faborini'. :)

What he did for Sunderland last season was really promising considering their shambolic season and lack of quality in attack, he was feeding on scraps and ate pretty well considering all things. Scoring 10 goals in 40 games, sounds underwhelming but he was their joint top goal scorer with Johnson, such were Sunderland's means last season.

If the Sunderland faithful call him Saint Gus up there, for his belief in 'miracles', they're probably calling Borini the second coming. :D

With Remy's deal being called off and Aspas and Suarez not here anymore, I think Borini is a good option and I truly believe he would fair so much better given the quality in midfield and attack we have.

Last season he was a striker for Sunderland in parts of matches and a midfielder/utility man in every other part of the match, he worked like a dog. I think we should hang fire and see what's in are locker before spending. We possibly have Origi signing to come in next season, so Borini, Lambert, Markovic, Sterling and Sturridge can all help and keep us in the goals, among others. Just my opinions though.

Agree2 Disagree0

I think Shane Long is a decent player.
