He is out for about 2 months and the injury happened when he went for the ball and punched Lovren's head instead. During the match, from where I was sitting, the goalkeeper came and completely missed the ball, and Lovren who headed the ball to safety was punched instead.

im not a doctor, but presume it depends on exactly what is broken in his hand. i broke my wrist once and it was painful for over 4 months. and it took me a while after that before i could use it properly. if its a single broken bone, i suppose it is more straight forward. any doctors out there who can advise?

another reason why I liked the time in football when goalkeepers used to catch the ball, all modern goalkeepers punch when most of the time its easier to catch the ball, having said that I wish him a speedy recovery and we have to get behind the migs for the first two months because quite frankly the idea of manninger starting does not fill me with confidence, there is always the goalie who played up front ( sorry I forgot his name)

Thats a big blow, was really hoping for a good start to the season, but its always the same, they give us a tough fixture list, then we lose two or three players . and I like many others wanted to see an end to the two players who cost us so many goals last season, now we know who will be in goal, and it looks like you know who will be at left back . don't want to sound negative, but expect a lot of goals conceded once again .

Manninger, I wonder how many premier teams would have him in there team . he does have his role to play, passing on his experience to the younger goalkeepers, but playing against the top teams, if we want some points on the board, we need our best team out there, we can't be playing catch up, after only a few games .

How do you rate Firmino? Statistically, he has been very good, but he goes missing in a lot of matches. And, I personally feel he is too lethargic and careless. How does Klopp rate him? Does he plan to use him as a striker or behind the striker or a squad player next season?

Hendo doesn't get the credit he deserves for his passing range and can be that player from deep, as could Can who brings the ball out well and with coaching might do something more productive with it.

I like Hendo and yes, he does have a good range of passing and a great engine. However, he's not a quality passer of the ball in the mould of Alonso. Alonso always had time on the ball a bit like Molby.
Coutinho and Firmino don't have the range of passing that Alonso had/ has and I can't judge Georginio until I have watched him closely. Coutinho is quick, full of tricks and fond of quick short passes to instigate attacks. Firminho as Ed001 mentioned works his socks off both on and off the ball and try's things other players wouldn't think of. Firminho will become more vital to the team once he finds a better level of consistency. He can score goals though and that's the beauty of the team Klopp is moulding together.
Going back to my original question, out and out playmaker's are a dying trade in the premiership.

Saw on the rumours page something about Henderson going to Spurs.
Now I don't think it's true. But who would you guys like to have as captain if Hendo did leave?
Personally I can't see anyone in the squad who is 1) the sort of character needed to be a captain and 2) going to play regularly enough.
Perhaps a system like United had when Neville was getting towards the end of his career. He was the "Club Captain" but there was a "Team Captain" for the games, Ferdinand or Giggs usually.
Anyway, just thought it would be an interesting discussion away from left backs etc

Fencey I agree, it's one big accident waiting to happen. Markovic did ok at rightback but there was games where it cost us and I can see this being the same. Not the best strategy for a team with top four ambitions. It's still early days and there's still time to get a LB yet. Maybe Klopp still sees something he can work with in Moreno and doesn't see LB as the priority we do. Maybe Chilwell was just cover and competition so isn't particularly worried. This maybe where our faith in Klopp comes in.

It is especially strange this time of the year when we have a whole month to the end of the transfer window and we had money to spend and we knew already at the end of last season that this is an area we need strengthening. It is not as if we got to March 2017 and suddenly both our LBs are injured.
If I had to choose a player to cover LB though it would probably be Sakho.

Just wanted to comment on our transfers. We seemed to be targeting key areas, new Gk and players in defence. Looks like the areas that need attention are being dealt with. Mane offered us something we lacked on the wings. Not sure on GW as I have not watched him play much. Again though gives us options and is versatile regarding the positions he can play in. But the one key area LB we seem to be stalling over. I'm not of the opinion that moreno should go, just we don't have many options back there. I know klavan can cover but really hoped we would get someone quality in for that position. One to push moreno and of course be better over all defensively. Just seems odd to me and the mistake we always make of not buying for the position that is needed
I know it's early days and the window is open for a while, just get a feeling that nothing is going to happen. Does this seem a bit strange to you ed's.
Regardless can't wait for the new season to start. Think its going to be exciting with so many teams pushing for the top 4 spots.

I know there is a business model of sorts in place but surely a more experienced player circa 25-26yrs for example, would be better suited than another raw 20yr old to fill a position that seriously needs addressing.

I feel that the Chilwell saga is similar now, we have missed our chance to sign a big talent. However, I believe Klopp will have a plan and has not failed to see the weakness in our LB situation.

I would have thought that at the end of the last season the priority would have been to aquire a new left back.
However, this has not happened as of yet.
This makes me very wary for the season ahead. I get the feeling that Moreno will be our left back for next season - a chilling thought.

If it is to be Amavi then I really hope that fans judge his ability on the fact he plays for Villa, he's a good player in both attack and defence. He's a really aggressive player when attacking and loves to run at the defence, which also shone at Nice. I'd prefer Chilwell, long term, but I think Amavi is better equipped than him to start the season and is only marginally in 2nd place for me.
