Depressing to hear we've started contract talks with Lovren, thought we were leaving the years of mediocrity with klopp at the helm. Why are we offering him a contract as he is simply not good enough, lost for words. A truly awful decision.

Believable7 Unbelievable12

29 Mar 2017 22:58:08
Sakho is that you?

29 Mar 2017 23:11:50
Contact only means more money these days if the club sell .

29 Mar 2017 23:18:13
This kind of attitude is just childish. Get behind our players. We all know Lovren has his ups and downs but it doesn't give you the right to dig into someone who has been a good professional for us. No lack of commitment from him.

29 Mar 2017 23:19:24
Not a bad backup option but should no way be starting 11 imo, the defence is our biggest problem and he is at the heart of it.

29 Mar 2017 23:22:07
is that like the contract we negotiated with suarez before we sold him? anywho, that is a lot of being sad for no reason bro!

29 Mar 2017 23:43:15
Look guys, I'm all for the idea of protecting his value to keep the sale price up, but to be giving him a pay rise. Insanity, he's one the main reasons why we have been awful defensively for the last few years. No agenda here just don't rate him and can't understand why he's being rewarded for years of utter appalling defending.

30 Mar 2017 00:39:47
Mignolet also got a new 5yr contract last season.

These 2 must have the best agents in history.

30 Mar 2017 04:38:08
Or pics of Kloppo 'greasing' Ian Ayre's Harley!

30 Mar 2017 14:31:01
I took plenty of sticks for claiming this very early in the season. Loves is a terrible player like Simon Mignolet. Klopp will learn the hard way.
So we could all put off a new defender coming up in the summer. After shipping a record 50 goals we are moving into the right direction offering Lovren a new contract.

29 Mar 2017 19:01:03
Three issues with a squad that lacks depth:
1. injuries
2. Loss of form
3. Player fatigue

Sadly, we have been victim of all three. Had we not, I think we could have pulled off what Leicester did last year.

Believable2 Unbelievable15

29 Mar 2017 20:10:55
Injuries are part and parcel of the game. We aren't the only sufferer. Arsenal has been dealing with it from decades.

Loss of form is subjective : We couldn't beat a well organized team who sit back and counter, If that's the excuse you are making.

Fatigue: No way this should effect us. We were out from all possible competition long ago. No CL and No EL. Totally unacceptable excuse.

29 Mar 2017 20:33:07
Our squad has much More depth than leicester though so it's not the best comparison. They were fortunate with injuries, mainly with Kante staying fit. But loss of form and inconsistency does continue to plague us. Whether that's down to the manager or players remains to be seen. We are still a pretty young squad to be fair.

29 Mar 2017 21:36:58
Agree with you Harry. You have suddenly become very sensible. Long may it continue.

29 Mar 2017 23:22:34
that's why what leicester did last year was magical.

29 Mar 2017 23:57:42
And why LC cannot replicate it., Faith.

30 Mar 2017 00:32:12
We unfortunately played Leicester 2 weeks too late.
All the press uproar about sacking a manager who won them the league and was Still in the latter stages of the champions league caused the team to galvanise together.
The senior players who the press blamed for Ranieries dismissal rallied around Shakespeare and found the 10% that had been missing in their prem. Form this season.

That been said we still played bad.

29 Mar 2017 16:02:11
Hi, quick question for ED02 if possible. Do clubs have a customer relationship manager to deal purely with agents? with it being such an integral part of the business I assume this would be important? Love the sharkopod by the way. You have intriguing multi media skills.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No not a Customer Relations Manager. Normally it would be the Sporting Director who deals with agents - previously Mr Ayre did it.

Thanks for the comment about the Sharkopod.}

29 Mar 2017 21:22:27
Would it be difficult for someone like Edwards, who I assume hasn't previously been involved in such situations, to get involved and complete deals?

29 Mar 2017 14:25:59
A question for ed001, why do people think clyne is one of the best full backs in the league. I mentioned that he isn't good offensively and defensively. The people there reacted as if I had committed a crime against humanity!

Believable4 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I have absolutely no idea. I remember saying the same when he was at Palace and Southampton, he has not improved, but he is even more highly rated. I just don't get it. I suppose because most people only watch highlights and even those that watch the matches tend to follow the ball.}

29 Mar 2017 18:30:01
Spot on, he's been very average for us. Vastly overrated, due to his pace he's been let off criticism. Going forward he offers nothing, his passing is beyond average. Always slows down the attack. Been at fault for several goals this season. Really expecting TAA to displace him next season.

29 Mar 2017 20:11:47
He has pace and that's what keeping him at the club. Klopp loves who runs fast.

29 Mar 2017 20:49:46
His delivery is shocking from wide areas.

30 Mar 2017 00:02:09
Wrong again, Harry. Klopp does not value running a lot if you are a headless chicken. If that was the case, Ibe and Smith (who can run a lot) wouldn't be at B'Mouth right now. Klopp doesn't think that much of Clyne and that is a fact. Why? He wanted him replaced last summer as Ed said cos he knows he's not good enough. He's only here cos Klopp can't move him YET. TAA has more ability and end product than Clyne will ever have so your snide remark at club is bogus.

30 Mar 2017 14:33:37
If Clyne starts as the RB next summer then you are proved wrong else I take the blame N red.

29 Mar 2017 13:51:31
Ed I see Chelsea have a successful affiliation with Vitesse in the dutch league as they send their young players there to get experience playing with teammates.
I was wondering if liverpool have any affiliates like this? I think I remember seeing us signing an affiliation with a Uruguayan club after buying Coates forgive me if I am wrong. Is there any Clubs in England we are affiliated with and do you think it is a good option to send our youngsters to these clubs to play competitive football?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No, Liverpool has no affiliated clubs that they send players to on loan. Some clubs have one or more agreements (Chelsea have several such agreements).}

29 Mar 2017 14:48:13
I think it would be a great idea it gives the youngsters experience playing competitive football alongside teammates on loan from the same club. I think a team like Huddersfield under Wagner would be ideal. Cheers Ed.

29 Mar 2017 15:10:14
A season in the championship doent prepare a player to be in the PL. If we had such a deal we would need to follow Chelseas moodel and have it in a league that's at least top of their country.

29 Mar 2017 15:38:11
Doesn't Klopp have a manager friend at Huddersfield where something similar might be possible?

{Ed002's Note - It is not something that is the responsibility of the manager to sort out with his friends.}

29 Mar 2017 15:43:28
The championship is a much harder league than the dutch league hjikle.

29 Mar 2017 16:13:44
Just out of interest, how many of Chelsea's loan players who went to Vitesse are now playing in their first team?

It is not a trick question, I genuinely do not know. I am just skeptical of there actually being any benefit to this "affiliation".

It is just that from where I am sitting their entire starting XI and most of the subs bench are signed players at an average cost of about £25-30m. Correct me if I am wrong though.

29 Mar 2017 17:43:37
I'm tending more towards Adam (and Ed001) on this. At first I really envied Chelsea's loan system, and from what Ed002 has said, they properly kept in touch with their loanees, not like we have done in the past.

However, it does seem to be hoarding young talent for profit rather than developing players for your first team. Correct me if I'm wrong but the only loanees of recent times that have made the first team are Courtois (courtesy of AM rather than Vitesse) and Zouma? The rest seem to be filling the profit coffers once they have worked through their apprenticeship, a prime example being De Bruyne who was sold on for a large profit following a loan spell.

I would rather more players broke into the first 11 and then you are building an academy system, with loans where appropriate, which makes your club more financially secure in the future, and with an ethos being built at every youth level.

Of course, you could argue that making £5-£10m profit off each player whilst they spend their late-teens on loan is equally beneficial, financially, as (for example) 3 sale profits would pay for a ready made first teamer to be bought in at their peak.

However, it just doesn't seem quite right to do it that way (albeit its a great way to accumulate wealth in Champ Manager! ) .

29 Mar 2017 19:51:39
Out of curiosity. What's the point in keeping the youngsters at U23 level? What would benefit a player like Stewart who is 23, Bench role or proper league appearance on loan? Let's look from the players point of view and not club!

29 Mar 2017 20:45:13
Zouma doesn't count. St Etienne sold him to Chelsea in the Jan period but kept him on loan for rest of season. Whereupon he joined Chelsea first team the following season.
However Ake will probably make the grade so he should be included
Problem is it apparently takes around 10 years for changes to an academy to actually show. So would expect players to start coming off the conveyor belt now.

{Ed025's Note - conveyor belt phil?..its full of cobwebs mate.. :)

29 Mar 2017 22:30:36
Good point Phil, not Zouma but Ake looks good.

I know what you mean re the 10 year horizon, Rafa made the changes 10 years ago. This is where a DoF would come in useful to provide continuity, as in the intervening 10 years we have had 5 managers, so plenty of chopping and changing.

29 Mar 2017 23:52:55
I genuinely hate it when people say "youth" and "profit" in the same sentence. any club should have a vested interest in developing their youth for profit. the people with red mist in their eyes are missing the fact that if their investment is good enough to improve their own first team then that is obviously very very good. and if they end up being duds but someone will buy them for more than you paid then that is obviously very very good too!

Hi
Have recently seen a few talents come through ....

I will be doing the Yorkshire three peaks (24 miles of walking over Yorkshires tallest peaks) for Winstons wish, a charity that supports children going through bereavements within their family.

I'm hoping to raise £500 which will help fund the support phone lines for a day. if you can give a little it will be greatly appreciated.

Interesting reading the injury stats for the 16/ 17 season no team in the top 6 has had players injured for more days than us. Only 5 teams in the league have had more days missed by players and they're all fighting relegation. Squad game.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

29 Mar 2017 13:17:23
Leicester just won the league basically by being able to field an identical team in almost every game, near record small numbers of injuries and suspensions. It's the same every year - so little to pick between first XI's that whose available most is the clincher.

29 Mar 2017 17:03:30
That sturridge lad sure would diddle daddle with those stats probably inflates them by 150 days or more. Jeewiz, genie mac, bugger me sideways these sure are some silly stats I say I say. Any who funny how funny how despite these injuries the suppose king of developing players and bringing through youth has managed to barely give any premier league minutes to youth players opting to just run the players into the ground oppose to makes sub, either speaks volumes for the lack of quality our youth players possess or just that people have wildly exaggerated klopps reputation On this department who knows, not me maybe other, I don't, it would really be a shot in the dark for me to, not like shooting fish in a barrel at all.

29 Mar 2017 18:41:12
zoom what on God's (or whatever other mystical deity people on this site may believe in, maybe there's some sort of Norwegian God that the majority of our fanbase believes in) green (not always green of course but whatever floats your boat (or other transportation device) earth are you talking about?!

29 Mar 2017 19:29:28
I think he's saying
1) Sturridge inflates the stats
2) Klopp needs to bring through more youngsters to solve the problem
3) it's easier to shoot fish in the dark if they're in a barrel?

29 Mar 2017 19:32:12
You've summed up the situation succinctly there Zoom 👍🤠.

29 Mar 2017 19:58:22
oh thanks for clearing that up zimbo, i don't know why the creep didn't just say that instead of beating round the bush, I mean why did he have to go and say that you would have thought he could have got to the point in a flash i mean holy harry potter what's the big deal what's the hold up, anyway back to my point about him not beating around the bush, his post is ridiculous and long winded in fact i've never seen such a long winded post in my history (which is a fairly long vengeful one especially over the last five years where i went away and did some soul searching) but thanks for clearing it up anyway zimbo, someone had to.

29 Mar 2017 23:55:31
took at least 3 or 4 attempts to read your post through all the parentheses tho prometheus. lol.

29 Mar 2017 11:32:57
A question for the Eds - do you think the club will look to put a Director of Football into place or has that ship well and truly sailed now with the appointment of Edwards in his Sporting Director role?

A second question would be, if the club does decide on searching for a DoF who could we realistically attract (assuming that the likes of Monchi, Zorc and Walsh are impossibilities)?

Finally, how badly damaged is the club's relationship with other clubs in Europe as a result of the overzealous and arrogant approaches to recruitment/ negotiations during FSGs tenure?

Thanks in advance.
FPF.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - (a) They should but they won't. (b) N/A. (c) Two clubs wrote last season and informed their FAs. Now we have this investigation over the kiddie from Stoke. Clubs don't like to be messed aroun d like this.}

29 Mar 2017 13:24:42
Now 'we' have this situation.

Closet red, Ed002? :)

{Ed002's Note - I occasional pop my head out of the closet.}

29 Mar 2017 14:28:31
Thanks Ed002. So what will it take for FSG to accept that one is needed - setting fire to another 150m?

Out of interest, asides from the obvious names who are the well thought of up and coming DoFs out there these days?

Thanks in advance
FPF.

{Ed002's Note - FSG have a performance analyst in the role of Sporting Director and he will assist Klopp in finding young men who can run very quickly towards the opposition. Antonio Cordon, Fabio Paratici and Olivier Pickeu are three who are very well respected although Pickeu of course has broadened his horizons.}

29 Mar 2017 15:13:28
Many thanks Ed. Olivier Pickeu is an interesting one!

{Ed002's Note - He is very ambitious and will at some point appear elsewhere - but he will want commitments.}

29 Mar 2017 08:50:01
Hey Red's and Ed's. I'm back after a fairly lengthy sabbatical (formerly I was Brenda's_dentist) . I just want to say that Emre Can will come good and can we abuse Harry some more please. only joking about Harry! Ed's 001 I know you've missed me and I'm truly sorry I sent the flowers back you sent me but I was in an abusive relationship and if my boyfriend had found out another guy was sending me flowers he would have rearranged your face and made my life a living hell. He just gave my mobile phone back to me after a year because I didn't cook his macaroni cheese to his liking! Anyway life goes on without Adam Lallana. As some French guy once said '10 games to greatness'.

Believable0 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - have you been drinking heavily by any chance?}

29 Mar 2017 09:16:41
Welcome back brenda.

{Ed001's Note - don't welcome them back, they might stay this time!}

29 Mar 2017 09:22:27
I drink to forget the times we shared together 001. Unfortunately there's not enough alcohol in the world to drown my woes.

{Ed001's Note - trust me I know that, which is why I gave up drink....}

29 Mar 2017 09:39:59
Thanks Ron. I implore you not to take head of Eds'001's bunkum he has repressed feelings for me that he knows will never come to fruition. Unrequited love is a slippery slope 😜.

{Ed001's Note - something like that....}

29 Mar 2017 16:24:35
This banter made my day!

{Ed001's Note - easily pleased then pankaj? Brenda will like that, it is just her type as she is easy....}

29 Mar 2017 19:32:08
Though doth protest too much Ed!

{Ed001's Note - you can never protest too much zimbo! Treat her mean, keep her keen an all that mate.}
