If BR is are new manager( are coach ) then it's not a bad appointment although I'd prefer someone different I think he knows alot of people and has worked at big clubs there for will no big name players also he is a friend of mourinho who has a lot of time for Rodgers which won't be a bad thing as I'm sure if he was interested in a player that played for mourinho before then I'm sure mourinho will speak well of rodgers

Marty mcc {Ed016's Note - How do people mix up Are and Our, and no its not BR}

Ed 005 says its most likely BR, who would you guess ed 016? Just curious? ....... {Ed016's Note - Martinez is my educated guess. Swansea have also been spoken too though. But at least we can all agree it seems pretty set either to be Martinez or Rogers and they are two fantastic young managers}

Ed016- how are you so sure it not BR? You must know something, from the inside. Not just a statement 10 days ago. Remember we said we aren't selling torres and yet look what happened. {Ed016's Note - How did you not figure out Torres was leaving that Jan? His body language after scoring in his last one or two games for us said it all. I have NO inside info, I just see a lot of info all day every day and my educated guess comes down to it still being Martinez and not BR.}

Ah, an epic Ed005 versus Ed016 battle! Any side bets taking place between the Eds on this one?

Personally I think Martinez the more likely as well, but who knows? Just goes to show that the only thing we know is we don't know.

Does anyone think we would have a chance of taking Lukaku on loan from chelsea? He's not getting any games there and i'm sure he'd prefer a loan move to us where he'd get a decent amount of games and get to play in Europe than move to a small club but getting played every game. What does everyone think?

Who was the last player to be loaned between rival teams?

cozinoz {Ed016's Note - Why would we develop one of their players for them? yukky}

Benayoun - Chelsea to Arsenal last season

Why would we want Lukaku? He is over overated and is pants.

Adebayor.

OK guys, if we get either Martinez or Rodgers how long are you prepared to give them to be successful. 3, 4, 5 years? or if we finish 8th in the league next year will you want their head?

Honest answers please.

FT

If we finish 8th next year will the owners want their head? I'm really hoping whoever we get is allowed at least 2 seasons to make an impact. Kenny should have stayed another year imo as he had relative success. Id hate to see us changing managers every year as it retards our progress and affects continuity.

cozinoz

As long as they're playing good football and giving it 110% every game we'll shoot up the table. I wouldn't ask for them to be sacked, it takes time to gel, took Ferguson how long to get United ticking? I actually can't see us finishing 8th to be honest. We just need a tactician like Martinez or Rodgers who know the tactics to counter other teams which Kenny did not unfortunately. I am thinking top 4 next year, no joke. All we need is a direction from the manager which they rately received.p.s. I am a big fan of Dalglish but he was never the long term solution, I think he knew in his own heart and soul he'd get 2 seasons max, he was a stopgap!

It all depends for me, FT. Even if the results aren't what we want, as well as everything else seems okay (players seem happy and are working hard on the pitch, sponsors are happy, substitutions are logical, starting lineups and formation seem reasonable, players in/out make sense, etc.) then I'm quite happy to give them as long as it takes.

On the other hand, if the results aren't there, the team is shambolic, the manager is putting out weird sides and playing people out of position consistently, and the media reporting on us is having a negative impact on the club, then a sacking may be in order.

I guess my point is I think it's far more than simply league/cup position.

Eds, Wat hours do u work? Is it a shift pattern? Is macca Jason mcateer??
Cheers
Howcouldheplay {Ed016's Note - Haha, I moved to Canada 6 years ago, so I just come on to edit posts when I get a chance so that Posts are pretty much being put through 24/7. Because I am 8 hours behind the U.K time I am making sure that North American reds and reds that just can't sleep can still post on the site. Think of Macca as The Stig....we don't really know and don't really care to know his identity we just appreciate the work he does and I am glad so many reds get to enjoy this site}

Are you going to be able to make it to the Toronto game, Ed016? Is there a big Lfc following over there?

cozinoz {Ed016's Note - It depends, I did talk to my missus about it and she was up for it, she has some family in Ontario so I am thinking about it, if I want tickets it's not going to be too difficult to get them. But I am eyeing a roadtrip to the other coast this summer as I plan to move there so it all comes down to funds and getting away from work. Canada is a big country and all, I would probably have to fly to Toronto and its still a 5 hour flight away...I might prefer to spend that money on a real vacation somewhere hot....as I spend 8 months out of the year frozen}

So it seems as though Friday is D-Day. Rodgers vs. Martinez. I can't wait to see who we get in and see the beginning of what should most certainly be the beginning of a future BPL-winning club. NESV will win. Trust them. They did it with a self-proclaimed "cursed" club that hadn't won anything for far longer than LFC.

AmRed {Ed016's Note - Martinez and do not think of Friday as 100%}

29 May 2012 23:30:43
We have been doing our dirty washing in public for years now, which has not done our club any favours. Just sold more rags every week.finally a bit of professionalism is being shown by our owners and half our fans go nuts.

Just ignore the rubbish in the papers and hold out that fsg get the right coach and dof when they are ready and sure.( for me I'd be happy with BR & LVG if we started playing proper football and competing on all fronts, probably be a few seasons project before progress)

The one position I truly hope FSG address is that of a Public relations officer/ director, we have being crying out for a strong unified professional voice for LFC for years. Would have taken an awful lot of the heat off of KK this season if had of been so.

Eds who has been responsible for this role in the club since h&g era?

Aldred

29 May 2012 23:29:06
Hi Eds.. Great site love it. If BR get the job which of his current players at the Swans would be good enough to wear the LFC shirt? {Ed005's Note - Joe Allen and that's it.}

Leon Britton? seems a decent player

I wouldn't mind Vorm either, honestly. Find him to be a pretty decent keeper overall.

RDL

Joe Allen and Michel Vorm if Reina leaves. That'd do me just fine :)
KR

Leon Britton completed about 2000 passed last season but not on went forward

29 May 2012 23:21:04
This whole manager thing is really puzzling me. It doesn't make any sense to only talk with Martinez and then come back to England and go straight for Rodgers and on top of that say there will be an announcement this Friday. What if Rodgers genuinely doesn't want the job? what then? If they've decided not to go for Martinez and Rodgers doesn't go for it then what do we do? Personally I don't believe anything I read in the papers on this one and I wouldn't be surprised if FSG have fooled us all.

29 May 2012 22:49:52
Rights Ed's I'm coming to the conclusion its going to be van gaal as dof, rodgers manager, with steve clarke as assistant. The philosophy of all three are simular and i believe the owners are looking to emulate barca. Give me a clue am i close?

Red Grand {Ed005's Note - If I were a betting mad I'd bet on that mate.}

Why cant we create our own philosophy we or anyone else will never emulate barca with the players we have we should be playing more direct

Sounds great to me, I will be delighted if that is the set up.
Red Derry

More direct. You mean, we should be playing the hoofing game? Not for me, mate. LFC deserves better.

29 May 2012 22:49:14
its time to count down for the amazing signings, it will begin with a famous manager( not martinez nor Rodgers!), plus 3 big signings ( exclusive)

Cheers
Mido

Are you one of them mido??

web site runs to slow now use to be on the pluse boring sarcastic eds {Ed005's Note - No bath from mum tonight sonny? Don't waste both our times.}

29 May 2012 22:43:30
Manager win ratios:
1st Van Gaal 61%
2nd Rodgers 41%
3rd Martinez 38%

The first two as a combination or 1st and 3rd, good enough for LFC? Van Gaal has great CV in conjunction with an up and coming young 'coach' who would fit the profile of FSG for being media friendly?

EVO YNWA

Van Gaal - media friendly? lmao shows you dont really know huh...

29 May 2012 22:33:54
Hi Ed, do you know the reason for Kenny Dalglish sudden sacking. It doesn't seem like a FENWAY move. They normally get their guy in first then elbow a ledge in the face. Why did they do it this way? Kenny would of understood and moved into diplomatic role for the club.

Did the media find out and wanted to know if it was true if Kenny was getting sacked come the last day of the season. In which case, they have been calling for his head all season. So a story like that wouldn't of really meant anything new.

The whole things looks like a big mess, Kenny Dalglish was sacked on 16th may, So this is the third week of unknown.

Is Mohamed Diame move from Wigan to liverpool now off. I thought he would of been a good free transfer considering he would cost nothing and is a very strong competitor in the park

{Ed005's Note - If you believe reports he was offered his resignation twice and FSG had no other option. But I would cite the poor buys, awful league performances, poor handling of the racism row and poor handling of the media as contributory factors.}

29 May 2012 21:48:28
Hey eds/macca, great work!

My question is whether or not there is still interest in Muniain and whether or not you see him as a likely signing or whether he is likely to go somewhere else?

Cheers {Ed005's Note - To be honest it depends on the new Dof and manager - I would like him to sign though good player.}

29 May 2012 21:19:19
Hey Eds/Macca,
please can you put me out of my misery, is rogers or martinez likely to be out next manager? OR is this just a bluff and someone else (hopefully better) will suddenly be reveled soon?
Thanks G {Ed005's Note - To be honest mate I would personally say Rodgers and he would be my personal preference.}

29 May 2012 21:09:35
Eds, Is it likely the manager and DOF will come from the names tossed around by the media or could we be in for a surprise {Ed005's Note - If by a surprise you are thinking Pep Guardiola then I wouldn't get too excited.}

29 May 2012 21:02:03
eds, I'm pretty sure that we have held talks with van gaal and it's not just paper talk, so i was wondering if there was a chance of him joining as manager rather than DOF? as he has a lot of experience, and i feel he'd do well.
YNWA {Ed005's Note - If you are pretty sure we've held talks with him you must know what's going on behind the scenes, so why ask me?}

29 May 2012 23:14:53
Brendan Rodgers can be a very good manager for Liverpool FC.
His philosophy, hes young and british.
Wat he'll get at Liverpool is experience and success!
Hes gunna be a wise choice by FSG

Harry5:)YNWA

Not sure that being British is a pre-requisite for success (Fergie being the exception)

Whether British or Non British is not a must but we must get behind the new Manager.........trust

29 May 2012 23:12:06
All I ever read is 'Rodger's and Martinez's teams play nice football'.
Do any of you lads actually watch LFC or do you just watch Wigan and Swansea. King Kenny had us playing fantastic football for the majority of last season, our only failings were a keeper having an off season and strikers who were goal-shy. Kenny's team played better football and had better results and won more and now you all think Rodgers and Martinez are the answer? Reality check needed

Spot on

I am personally waiting for the only man in the know, so that I can give him" the respect that he deserves".... The leg end that is Daniel Hanwell

29 May 2012 23:08:02
Banter aside, how is Martinez or Rodgers an improvement on Kenny? Did FSG really think this through? To be successful at Liverpool the manager will need to have 100% of the fans behind him or it will be the Woy factor all over again. Even with a handful of fans not being happy with the manager will create a bad atmosphere at games and it will spread over time if results do not go Liverpool's way. I think it the appointment needs to have the fans full support or it can only end one way. If Kenny couldn't get the players motivated could Martinez or Rodgers? Very strange IMO.

Disney!

It's not strange Disney mate. Don't buy into this media bull****, we as a club have said nothing. But I keep reading ex-players, club chairmen, so called pundits etc. Saying how bad we've handled this situation? How can anyone say anything about the conduct of FSG when they know nothing about them and what's going on concerning a new manager?

The truth is mate. If we don't know what's going on, the gutter press and you don't know either.

Dave (bucket mouth/SlySports darling) Whelan said on Sat/Sun that Martinez was meeting FSG today, what happened to that? If we talked to Martinez today Whelan would have been straight on the blower to SlySports, shouting it from the rooftops.

Now it appears Dave Whelan knows noting either!
Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed016's Note - Blair watch your language mate. I won't edit it next time I will just delete it}

Apologys Ed mate. Just hate to watch LFC fans being manipulated by the gutter press. I will take a couple of valium and watch Pretty Women, to calm down.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed016's Note - Haha, well you would hate to be an Ed, you should see how much the press influences people. I have to do real digging to find out what is a reliable source and what was actually said and not just taken out of context or made up ENTIRELY ala.....most of the newspapers.}

I believe my eyes and I seen Martinez having a meeting with John Henry on SSN. This was also confirmed by Dave Whelan. It may have been the run of the mill interview and nothing will come of it, but at this moment in time you have to say that Martinez and Rodgers are the two favourites if the manager is going to be named in just two days time. I would say that's just enough time to talk to Rodgers and then decide on whether it's going to be Martinez or Rodgers. But like you said no one knows anything for sure. Perhaps FSG have been shrewd and struck a deal with Pep Guardiola whilst fooling everyone and Liverpool will kick-on and next season will be Liverpool's season, OR perhaps FSG are in-fact clueless and have chosen Rodgers or Martinez which will not sit well with all of the Liverpool fans and will be like bringing in Woy all over again. I guess we will see soon enough.

Goodnight.

Disney!

Disney is Sidney a utd fan!

I agree Disney mate. We will just have to wait and see, we've no choice.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Maybe 'Disney' is just his alter ego when he's supporting Liverpool. Seriously though, we should welcome other fans' input if they they are not here as antagonists

Although the club won the Carling Cup and reached the FA Cup final, Liverpool finished 8th in the league

As far as I'm concerned, Kenny Dalglish will always be a legend at Liverpool"

: "From a business point of view, it's up to the owners, but Kenny has had an extraordinary year."

: "We were starting to win again, we were a goalkeeper's glove away from turning the FA Cup final around, it could have been very different."

After Roy Hodgson's departure in January 2011, Dalglish returned to manage the club for a second time, initially on a caretaker basis.

He was made permanent manager in May on a three-year contract.

Will Kenny Dalglish be getting his full payoff from his time at the club. He got £4million this year, but will be of gotten a golden handshake of £8m from FENWAY.

I think they owe him every penny, he should collect as much of it as possible. Will kenny now have to get lawyers involve to get his money or has the club paid him off and given another role in the club. Kenny went for that meeting with the owners where he was wearing a full suit ext, so what was going on their. Was he already sacked but had to wait until the end of the season.

Do you think Maca could fill us in on the last games of the season. Did they know the score with the manager and what was going to happen because the last game at anfield, kenny looked like he was saying goodbye to the club forever.

it was a nice moment, with family and players.

29 May 2012 23:00:19
please post. breaking news tonight. liverpool ask to spk to rogers. this is defo. eds your thoughts please?

29 May 2012 22:55:34
look guys really do we want rogers or Martinez as both at low league clubs and one just survived relagation not being funny but guna be another Roy hog

Y not experience like rafa avb klopp pep

Funny one wud be Roy keane as said would love to manage us

How has AVB become experienced after one and a half season of management?

29 May 2012 22:54:14
eds why is i taking so long to get either RM or BR , if these are the only 2 we are looking at then it must be an easy choice , so i think the reason for the delay is because its not going to be them 2 , its going to be someone who needs us to wait , maybe finish an holiday , {Ed001's Note - or maybe because they want to make sure that they are the right ones.}

29 May 2012 22:54:09
Not an in the know, or whatever, first off. Secondly, the longer the managerial situation is prolonged and the more quiet Rafa stays, the more this situation says 'Rafa's coming back.' I think we'll be singing Rafa La Bamba in the Kop next season.

Thanks Eds, and if you wouldn't mind, what's your opinion of my post?

YNWA {Ed001's Note - Rafa has not been quiet, he has been all over Spanish radio and TV touting himself for the job.}

29 May 2012 22:35:59
I'm guilty of judging Rodgers when I never knew a thing about him. I'm now really excited about him being our manager

I would actually rather Martinez than Rodgers

Still not convinced it's going to be Rodgers myself, there have been that many twists and turn's that I wouldn't be surprised if it was still going to be Martinez.

29 May 2012 22:33:24
Just been hearing that Dave Whelan has requested that the Leveson enquiry get wrapped up by the end of this week, as he wants to know if Wigan will be receiving significant Sky Sports money for the next few seasons, which may be subject to what becomes of Rupert Murdoch!
He has also asked the Premier League to issue next seasons fixtures by lunchtime tomorrow as he wants to ensure Wigan are fully prepared for next season.
Any other requests Dave...??!!

29 May 2012 22:23:21
Hi me again.

Just a couple of snippets. Avb is already giving his targets to JH and LVG. Erriksen is the main target and he is prepared to blow the entire budget on him which is thirty three mil.

Who is this? why would you say this, and what was the point

I think AVB found our site...

29 May 2012 22:20:43
Hello Eds,

Do you think the reason why Rodgers has been made odds on favourite to be our next manager is due to the fact alot of people are betting on him and the bookies have had to change him to odds on, or is their a reason he's odds on?

Also, Reina out? have any legs or just BS.

Thanks
TPLFC {Ed005's Note - Odds are determined by betting patterns, not inside info.}

I think people have been betting on him, you know when their is a sure thing on, when the office boy puts on a lunch time bet. Then those guys know because they are working in the office.

But I think he isn't the guy.

It just seems too messy from the owners. not sure why they did it like this.

29 May 2012 22:16:02
eds, i know with no manager in place transfers are basically suspended but what the latest with luuk de jong? thought other teams may make a move for him. also i read that brendan rodgers is a fluent spanish speaker and is also learning italian. thats sure to impress mr henry {Ed005's Note - I'm sure De Jong will still be strongly suggested to any new manager.}

29 May 2012 22:15:07
FSG have failed to pursuade Klopp and now it seems Rodgers. They've offered one of the most prestigious jobs in club football around like it's some 2-bit w***** and everyone except the Wigan manager has told them where to go. I'm not surprised Martinez wants the job to get away from Whelan, but one can't help he's jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire with his choice of owners.
What an unholy mess!

Alex Ferguson is a winner, Wenger is a winner, Kenny is a winner in premiership terms. (chelsea's mourinho)

IF Kenny was given a full season in charge with those guys, plus he could buy in the players to correct the squad. Then we could of judged him next season.

At the moment, Kenny wasn't given enough time, he wasn't given enough control to turn around the fortunes at the club. A season is not enough time to make a difference with a team.

All that will happen, is that the players will not respond to the new guy, and we will have another mid-table season. Then people will start to think, its getting expensive if we keep sacking managers.

Our recent managers have have not worked out because of time. they where not given. Kenny could of turned it all around if he was allowed to buy players in january. So really the FENWAY are to blame for the poor season. They saw how it was going with our limited squad strength and sometimes one loan signing can make a big difference.

Look at Arsenal, they could of easily endded up 5th with chelsea, if it wasnt for the Henry loan in, that got them believing

29 May 2012 22:12:27
Please post Eds,
People saying that Rodgers is not the man and that FSG are clueless could not be further from the truth.

What FSG are creating is an innovation of barca 2003. 6th in the league 20pts from Madrid. now look at them.

Pep segura has/will be promoted to first team technical director. Lvg will be appointed as sporting director. Valero will be return as GK coach. Rodgers is just the final Cog in a well oiled machine that will see Liverpool return to greatness.

Just wait and see.

Thanks cam

Spot on!

29 May 2012 22:08:10
Brendan Rogers - for me hasn't got enough EPL experience.
Reminds me of Owen Coyle. Protential, nice
Football but what can he do under
pressure? Is he another 1season wonder?.

Roberto Martinez- plays good attacking football. Can change
Formations. Players enjoy playing for him.
Gets players cheap. My concerns are..
1) he lost 9 games on the run for Wigan
And his credentials were questioned.
2) can he handle the pressure.
3) would he realistically be here for the
Long haul.
4) is he proven.

You can't say that "well be buys players cheap".. Because the player value almost doubles when clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, Utd, Chelsea and now City become interested.
Rogers is still using the foundations Martinez brought to Swansea. Martinez has a worse record on wigan's league positions than his predecessor's.

For me! Both managers don't fulfill me with confidence that they should.
However most successful manager become a success when under the radar.
Strange one for me.
SL76

We have van gaal to assist Martinez in any way possible. And to help him handle the pressure. And if he can't, van gaal can takeover.

Firstly, like to say great job eds. Macca you are alegend. Not really a rumor but opinon mostl. In the three years I have been reading this site anyone who mentions smoke screen is a muppet. There haas not once been a smoke screen. Why would a reputable club string along a decent prem manager just to use him. All the people who say the owners are a disgrace should take a look at them selves. Any normal job interview involves a process to, a find the right man and b,make sure they are happy with the role. So with that in mind I am happy to wait and make sure we get the right management team. So lets get behind the owners, new manager, new dof and the team and have a decent season. Ck7

29 May 2012 22:02:45
Liverpool will unveil Louis Van Gaal as Sporting Director and Brendan Rodgers as Team Manager in a press conference on Friday afternoon. Steve Clarke will remain Assistant Manager. Watch this space.

Macca were are ya? We need ur info!

Hopefull Red

29 May 2012 21:59:18
Matt Jarvis was coming to Liverpool for around 6 million but I do not know the situation now as this was with kd in charge eds? {Ed005's Note - Don't think we would have got him.}

This came from the agent of the biggest transfer of an english player in the prem so we will see

29 May 2012 21:56:34
Like most of the people here, I have no idea who the next manager will be.
I've learned more about Roberto Martinez & Brendan Rodgers during the past week than I know about my own family members
I think Martinez & Rodgers could both do a good job for us. I don't get the negativity. I suppose you can't please everyone.
Personally I like the sound of Rodgers with Van Gaal as DoF.
Hopefully we'll know soon, can't wait til Friday!

Cheers Eds & Reds!

29 May 2012 21:54:11
I'd take Rodgers over Martinez, although both are risks!

My friends, you just never know... Rodgers could turn out to be the next 25 year manager who brings a philosophy of playing to the club that over 5 years puts us back where we belong. Or he could crash and burn for two seasons but if we can't get our Pep, Klopp etc.

Rodgers would not be a bad punt, he's studied the game and not just kept Swansea in the league, he's done it with style! If it's Rodgers, guys - get behind him with all our hearts, come on!

29 May 2012 21:52:17
Eds, would you say it is fair to narrow the potential managers down to Rodgers, Pep, Laudrup, Louis Van Gaal, Martinez? Cheers
AntGerrard {Ed005's Note - I would say narrow it down to Martinez and Rodgers for now.}

29 May 2012 21:49:05
Just a quick question to the eds or anyone else out there- when Brendan Rodgers worked at Chelsea was Steve Clarke there at that time? If he was it would make sense that fsg could see them working together again?
{Ed001's Note - yes and possibly but who knows.}

Who cares !?

29 May 2012 21:44:05
Hi eds, not a rumour, just a question for everyone as im fed up with the fantasy football generation of Liverpool fans. So, a few years ago before taking over at Barcelona....would Pep Guardiola have been a "big enough name" if Liverpool had decided to appoint him instead of Rafa in 2004? If last season we had got rid of kenny and appointed new Barca boss Tito ? Would he have been accepted? If we had appointed Klopp instead of Roy Hodgson would that have been accepted at the time? Jose Mourinho went from a Barcelona reserve coach to a champions league winner at Porto. Alex Ferguson came to united from Aberdeen. David Moyes came from Preston. Wenger was a nobody. What I'm saying is that all these so called great managers have to start somewhere. Should we appoint Rodgers or Martinez on Friday then what is the big problem with that. They deserve their opportunity in my opinion. However the only way they will succeed is with the support of us fans who need to be patient and realise that this isn't going to happen overnight. We can't go out and buy Van Persie, Hazard and co like the rest. We need to invest in youth, believe in the players staff and owners and SUPPORT our club.
Andy

Well put mate, I posted a similar thing yesterday

how come a lot of fans on here are already calling RM and BR , they may not have come from big teams but they play some nice football , some fans are writing them off already without giving them a chance , who knows they may shame them all into apologies , i am willing to give them a chance , and i would prefer RM , because he has been in the prem longer and has bought some decent players , so he knows about the little gems everyone misses , until the owners come out and tell us who the manager is why dont you all stop moaning and give our owners a chance before you start doubting them , i would love it if they pulled one over on everyone and got a top manager , you are all making assumptions on them , which are not valid , as ive said give them a chance to show us what they can do

29 May 2012 21:38:37
Great site !! maybe martinez and rodgers are both decoys ,with a high profile manager comming in because it seems odd that a wigan and swansea boss will decline our great liverpool . 5 champions league , 18 titles no sence.

29 May 2012 21:33:20
How can reports say the Rodgers deal is DONE when there have not been any talks between owners and Rodgers and not even any permission off Swansea to speak to him. Am i missing something ed?

I'm not sure either I starting to think alot of it is set for betting.. If I had bet Fred and millions went on Martinez I would pay someone to start rumours and blogs twitter etc like talksport and skysports have there own bookies. If Brendon's gets the job I will be surprised because Martinez has had a interview and having another it, would be rough to drop him if you had someone else lined up.

Perhaps Swansea are not chucking a Wigan and blabbing everything to the media ala little man Whelan.

For those that think that Martinez and Rodgers are not good enough, maybe they should take some time and consider what qualities a manager needs to be succesful? Is it his reputation? his Record maybe? Or is it the glamourous club he has come from?
Maybe, just maybe he actually might have to understand how we like to play the game.
Rodgers was brought up a liverpool fan, i was listening to him on the radio a few weeks ago telling how he would watch them on the telly with his dad also a fan, and this is where he picked up his style of playing.
Bill Shankley was manager of Huddersfield and mid table for the 3 years prior to coming to us (thats mid table in the second division by the way), he would not have been given a chance with some on here. Bob paisley had never managed before he took over. Now I have no idea who it will be, but lets not write them off before a ball has been kicked.
But there is a warning for the owners, a certain Mat Busby was offered the job once, and when the board would not give him the control he wanted he decided on Man u instead, a good manager will always want to build his team.
The owners were not part of Shank's Holy Trinity they were just ther to sign the cheques, now after sacking KK they have redefined their role, I have been working this afternoon with a swansea fan who is desperate to keep Rodgers, and he was right in what he said, they have lost their shield now. Lets hope they get it right then.

Shanks may have been a second division manager, but at the time the club was at the same level. Bob paisly throug years of loyal service learnt the rips and earned the right to take over. Both Brendan Rogers zn Roberto Martinez may or may not have a bright future, but they are novices and should our flub really be taking such a gamble when there are others who have a track record of delivering success. The whole process of KK's sacking and the interviewing process has been amateurish. FSG may be great business men but they too are learning the ropes as to how to run a football club. Too many amateurs is a huge risk. Who ever us our manager we will of course support 100%, but do we really need to take such a gamble. Reality Red

29 May 2012 21:32:40
Ten green managers sitting on a wall, ten green managers sitting on a wall..... Two green managers sitting on a wall and if Martinez should accidentally fall there would be one green manger Rogering us all. Surely out of the 3 names supposedly left only van gaal has the pedigree. It would be a huge risk to take on a novice. Novice owners and a novice manager has the potential for being a disaster of a combination. Reality Red

29 May 2012 21:30:42
Rodgers is staying put! I'm a Swansea fan, talks were held today between our chairman and him, nothing about the speculation just transfer targets, sigurdsson is signing for us because of Brendan. He turned down a chance with his predecessors in the form of Chelsea in January as he thought it was too early in his career and so is this. And I know this sounds like utter s**t (i don't care if u believe me im a swans fan) Brendan's daugther is in my son's school and has stated it will not be fair to change school and exam board to an English one until she completes her GCSE's (2 year's time). Everything relaxed down here, Brendan ain't leaving (i hope haha). Another factor is Martinez started our style of football off, Brendan continued that and he is taking all the credit. Martinez is a better fit.

It's probably gonna be Rodgers as our next manager so get over

also FSG have interviewed others but they don't all work for Dave 'the mouth' Whelan

I agree, don't think he is coming but to be honest there is no difference between the two, both unproved at a level that demands to top four Finnish. It's a risk but you never know... Just hope which one it is he is given a chance by the fans... {Ed005's Note - Guardiola was unproven,

29 May 2012 21:30:39
im very dissapointed with what has become of our club what is going on here? these yanks are useless and don't have a clue, im fed up of hearing so many stupid rumours, what ever happened to Liverpool FC... mid table team for along time if we get Martinez.. sad but true, like it or not, also thanks to the eds, your work is excellent.

You don't have a clue what is going on at the club, and that's the point, we do stuff behind closed doors

Txiki Begiristain has come back into the limelight today as a likely Director of Football through one of the broadsheets and with is track record with Barcelona until 2010 and FSG's desire to follow that style of management, do you think this is the surprise on the cards? Pep maybe or Martinez for sure? He as been working in consultancy too recently in London so is he FSG's advisor?

Can you give a link to the broadsheet's site where you've seen Txiki linked?

RedSG

Believe I picked this up on telegraph yesterday but it seems now that the forums are confirming this as the deal - just google Txiki Begiristain and see what develops. If so an absolute coup as Chelski tried so hard to get this guy and with a young manager the future is very rosy isdeed.

So a round up of today's rumours.
Rodgers is definitely talking to LFC and is odds on for the job?
Or Rodgers is defo not interested.
Martinez has had a second round of talks with LFC and is odds on favourite.
Van Gaal is getting a job with LFC but No-one knows what job. If its DOF then Rodgers and Martinez will refuse to work with him. He's now odds on favourite for the top job.
Dortmund are selling all of their best players, so we can appoint Klop? Hes odds on for the job, except his chairman said no chance.
Gaurdiola is odds on favourite as his name hasn't been mentioned for more than 24 hrs, so he's nailed on, defo.

I am checking this site (which is brilliant and highly amusing at the same time, nice work Ed's and Macca) SSN, twitter and about 20 other apps and web pages. All of which makes little sense.

What makes me laugh is the so called experts like Lawrenson saying "there doing it the wrong way" "the best we can finish next season is 6th!!" "to have 12 candidates is ridiculous"

FSG or LFC have made very few official statements on all of the goings on (and rightly so), I for one await with a huge sense of anticipation of the Friday press conference ;-). Whomever it is will get my full undying support. I honestly think good things are around the corner.

On a total Business approach, Why sack a manager when you dont know 100% who is coming into the role is definitely going to improve? Do FSG really think Rodgers/ Martinez is that much of an improvement that they would pay compensation to Kenny?

Personally I dont think last season was good enough but unless theres a big spend this summer I dont think Martinez/Rodgers/many others will be able to change that. A few shots that hit the crossbars/posts whould have made a massive difference. Remember Downing, Enrique, Hendo, Adam and in a way Carroll in there first season learning to play with each other and Gerrard in and out. Thats nearly half the team! Ifs and buts i know but to not have a definite replacement thats I know is definitely better?? Sounds odd.

The Big G

I agree!.
We now dont have stability.
They sacked kenny to early and the same with the old regiment with Rafa.
It takes years for a manager to get his feet under the table and show authority within the club.
It take years to build a team.

Now we have to start from scratch.

29 May 2012 21:05:52
BBC Northern Ireland now saying Rodgers is favourite. No comment before. Wonder why they are now? What and how do they know.

They are just reporting the bookies odds, and as he a local , its more news worthy to n.irish people...............lfc

29 May 2012 21:04:39
If FSG get it wrong again with the DoF and Coach appoitments this time round - will we be looking for new owners this time next year ?

If I was one of the investors (part of FSG) I wouldn't be too impressed with what Henry and Werner have delivered so far
- probably paid too much for the purchase
- stumbling blocks with the plan A of redeveloping Anfield (planning issues/ purchasing the properties need to expand Anfield etc)
- turnover of senior mgmt
- failure in transfer Market not the best £100m ever spent by FSG
- way off desired league position
- the Suarez saga
Etc

Only the warrior and SCB deals are the highlights of their tenure

"Liverpool plan to make the announcement of their new manager on Friday, ESPN understands. They have whittled their list of candidates down to Wigan's Roberto Martinez and Swansea's Brendan Rodgers, after a thorough search for the right man to replace Kenny Dalglish."

Just seen Brendan Rogers walking his dog in Stanley Park. He was obviously letting his dog put it's scent down so it doesn't get lost in it's new environment.

Another clear sign was that he arrived at Stanley park in a Enterprise rental van he has obviously been moving home!

29 May 2012 20:52:43
Liverpool's next manager....... We'll find out when we find out eh?

29 May 2012 20:52:17
Other than here ESPN are the only ones running with an accurate story. They are declaring that WE/LFC will not be appointing anyone in the immediate future as the appointment process is in early stages.

That said - and like all other media out there...there is no direct quote from any Liverpool source. The only direct info from a named source is the same old nonsense from Dave Whelan :

Quote - "The Wigan chief also confirmed he wants a resolution over Martinez's future by the end of the week..."

"But it seems unlikely Liverpool will speed up their process just to satisfy Whelan.

29 May 2012 20:44:01
Roberto Martinez is the new Manager.

Louis van Gaal is the new D.O.F

Steve Clarke has left the club, the new is coach Andries Jonker

Goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek will be brought in, he worked with Pepe Reina, Pepe regards him as the best goalkeeping coach out there.

Physio will be Ruud van Dyke.

The Mirror was correct after all. But you have had confirmation from here first will be announced by Friday!

the reason we are getting rejected is the director of football ..thing ...no good manager would want to work under a dof.

BBC Sport reporting we've approached Rodgers and are talking to his representatives. Surely they wouldn't report such a thing if it wasnt true. They don't usually even claim to understand, only report on the facts.

Can any Eds/Macca back this up?

Cheers

No, the press making stuff up, that almost never happens

Hey Eds just a quick question I noticed that some of you said that Liverpool fans would be happy "when they see they whole picture" in regards the new manager. This kinda got my attention do you guys know something that we don't and are keeping to yourselves? {Ed001's Note - well I don't, sorry.}

29 May 2012 20:32:24
The re-structure of the club commercially, operational management, legal and medical departments, plus the footballing side with a new manager and a DOF type role; would indicate an intention run the LFC franchise in a much more leaner and more productive perspective that would set the club up in a manner that would be responsive to any changes in the market place. Such as the renewal of the TV rights deal, increase in internet and mobile phone formats for viewing and the already mentioned preferred option (by Ian Ayre) of negotiating direct instead of as a PL package. Ensuring the footballing structure is as good as it can be to be 'future proof' in line with the business aspects of LFC is obviously on the agenda for FSG to make their LFC franchise successful. Expansion and further exposure into the North American and Asian markets would appear to be clearly in the business plan, with the Warrior deal being one example. So do FSG have a great vision for LFC? I'm sure we will see a naming rights decision made to aid the redevelopment of Anfield rather than a new stadium. Only my thoughts and analysis on the current situation, whether this is good or bad we will have to wait and see. One thing is for sure, I will always support my club no matter what happens.

Who's the better manager..

Martinez
Rogers
Coyle

The reason I mention Coyle is because we was linked with him before Dalglish and was the next big thing.

Are these managers more successful or greater than the top 3 listed..

Hodgson
Bruce
Hughes
Pardew
Allardyce
Pulis

Who has the cheaper wage?

They are all the same... You never know if it clicks into place.... Or not.

You act like he had millions of money to spend and decided to buy all these players for less than 2 million or on a free. You also ignore that fact that he was managing WIGAN, so what is your actual argument? give the guy a shot and stop trying to make up reasons why he's a bad manager.

He's cheap, will do as he's told, will not interfere with transfers, young and has a foriegn name.

No one else wants the job!.

So much for your Gauriola/Mourinho ideas lol.

The speculation around martinez and rodgers is not a smokecreen and the decision is firmly between this pair with meetings being arranged with FSG (JH in person) and the new DOF with the Barcelona t-shirt - Luis Van Gaal.

Dave Whelen is determined to keep roberto hence his insistence that martinez would be ill advised to work with a DOF. LVG will sell himself to the two up and coming new managers who will benefit from some gentle tweaks to the tiller.

Pep, Mourinho, AVB way of the mark - Klopp/Bielsa had been approached and I still suspect its worth checking the airports this evening with flights from Germany.

LVG will draw the signings and a young manager will have the energy and enthusiasm to sort us out. Budget no more than £40m with incomings added to approx £55/60m. Suarez/Carroll going nowhere - Reina moving on to Juve for £12m, Spearing and Kuyt £5m between them and some small fees for Maxi and reserves who wont cut it.

Signings expected to be LB, CB, Versatile Wide Player with pace, Striker/winger, young striker. Expect kids to get bigger chances in carling cup, etc.

FSG are in this for success and I believe they are getting it right.

Eds - look no further than Everton £15m, Villereal £5m, Wigan £8m(rising), Napoli £25m and Huddersfield £3m (rising) for this.

I will repost in August to confirm success.

YNWA - sources from the Accountants!

Probably the closest post to the eventual outcome I have seen yet

im confused, there has been a story saying liverpool are in talks with ryad boudabouz but if we dont have a manager or a sporting director who has approached him from the club :S anyone help with this and if its true would he be a good signing, cole should get second chance to save funds for a good right sided winger/striker with cole as back up maybe luuk de jong? aqualani kuyt maxi sold, lets hope the next liverpool manager doesnt spend alot of money on MORE CM seems to be a common thing -.-, we have hendo shelvey gerrard lucas adam aqua spearing(needs to be sold) heard a very bad rumour that liverpool are interetsed in cavani and lavezzi... never going to happen unless suarez is sold to raise funds. wish we would sign huntelaar him and suarez were sick at ajax :)

Don't buy more centre mids the one place we were short on players last season was centre mid, with gerrard lucas and adam injured we were left with spearing and henderson both inexperienced and in spearings role just not up to standard. I think we need another strong centre mid to cover injuries and maybe even switch gerrard wide right or further forward. He is getting older and will suffer from injuries and fatigue more now. We need a good right sided player, another striker, another centre mid and another fullback left and right. Not neccserily big names but quality hard working players who will do a job and push the current players for position.

Hi Eds & Reds,

It looks as if possibly it is between Martinez and Rogers for the job with Louis van Gaal as Director of Football.Lets just say in the event of getting neither, perhaps the best candidate would be Rodolfo Borrell.I think he would fit the FSG mould, a good, succesful coach at youth level, knows the how the club works and plays an attractive brand of football. Now,I am open to correction here, but perhaps one of the best things he has going for him is that he woul not be able necessarrily be able to demand a big budget of 50-60 million, we say the like of a Rafa Benitez or other proven manager would demand, people say Rafa had to dip into 2nd and 3rd choices in transfer markets under H&G, but he is the man who forked out 20 million on the great Aqualani !!

I think given a modest budget of 25-30 million, under the guidance of a van Gaal figure, LFC could make some very astute signings as well the development of such players as Wisdom,Sterling and Wilson.

I think what a lot of people are missing out on here is the fact of putting in place the right structure to move the club forward and if that means not meeting dave Whelan's never ending changing deadline, well so be. We must find the right man.

A lot of people have come on here complaining FSG are only shower of corparate sheisters et al. Simply NO, they saved Liverpool Football Club in their hour of desperate need and righly so want to get a return on their investment after loosing approx 100 million (open to correction) in first 18 months. Now if this involves implementing a structure and processes that allows us to gain a market share like Manchester United posting profits of hundreds of millions a year. FSG want to make us a bigger, greater global brand than our greatest rivals.

This brings up the little old nugget that is the Anfield redevelopment/ new stadium arguement. Well I am of the belief that FSG, that once the club is on profitable path that these plans will persued, crawl before you can walk. I believe that this issue should have been addressed nearly 20 years ago, but thats another days arguement.

To their credit, FSG have conducted their business in a manner Kenny Daglish talked a lot about when he was in charge, since his acking: The Liverpool Way.

Nobody knows what's going on, we will know when the time is right.

If have a theory about Dave Whelan, I tried posting last night but unfortunately to no avail, in my opinion, I dont believe for one minute that he would miss out on the 3 million compensation he would get if Martinez to leave, now if this meant trying to rush Liverpool into a decision and thus try sus out Aston Villa's interest I think he would. I think Whelan realises that there is a possibility that he would end up with egg on his face, scenario been, Liverpool and Aston Villa both snub Martinez, Wigan get relegated next season and he's backed his manager to the hilt with result getting progressively worse each season he in charge despite Whelan saying what a fantastic coach he is.

Sorry for the lenght of the post folks, just wondering what yer views are?

Hi Eds. This question is for you. Do you know if this is the most comprehensive overhaul (of management personnel) at one time, that LFC has had in the last 20 years? Did we have identical clearouts during the H & G purchase of LFC or even earlier? ra1969 {Ed001's Note - I have never known anything like this, but then the club has never had this amount of staff to dispose of in the past.}

Thanks for the reply Ed01. I asked because it looks like there might be some "method to the madness" by FSG, after all. They must have overhauled both personnel and the system because they could see it hasn't worked in bringing about the success of the Shankly & Paisley eras. Who knows? Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part. But I can see its going to be very divisive with the LFC fans. Mutterings of going against the "Liverpool way" can already be heard. Maybe we're seeing the FSG way? I'll be happy if it's Rodgers with Van Gaal as DOF. I want LFC to play the continental game with all the players, tactics and strategies that involves. That's the only way LFC can recover past glory. ra1969 {Ed001's Note - but they put it all in place initially, the likes of DC were their men, they created the role for him.}

Also Ed001, remember that after only 6 months they promoted DC to the Director of Football position after initially saying he was director of strategy or something. What seems odd is that they believed it was working, praised the jobs everyone was doing then just cut it all down...

I would have felt less nervous if they had at least some of the key positions within the club lined up, especially DOF...

Rodgers!!Martinez!! we are becoming a laughing stock,is it any wonder senior players are looking elsewhere? It's Hodgson all over again neither would attract big players.KK should have been given another year or bring back Rafa.

Clee Red

Whos looking elsewhere? dont just come on with random scaremongering comments then vanish! So if you reply give some credible info on whos leaving.

Mike

Relax mate.

Have our owners come out and said they are only interested in BR and RM , no they have not said a word , if i was you i'd wait until the owners came out and said who the manager is otherwise its all speculation ,

Rafa, is not coming back, I am also sorry to inform you that Evans and Houllier are also not being reconsidered for the post.

The only reason this all seems a mess is because everyone is guessing who it is going to be. Nothing has come from FSG, it's all come from Whelen and the press.
I can't see what is wrong with the owners taking there time to appointent the right person. In a ideal world they would have had a number 1 target and gone straight for them but oviously they didn't have one which meant they wanted to talk to several candidate.

If things go well next season everyone will be applauding what a great decision they made.

No we are not, get a grip mate, Wigan may be able to choose from one applicant, but many will have wanted this job and FSG have the type of manager in mind, the they are spending this time WELL to get the right man, not only for next season but to build the future for our club. Rodgers or Martinez, close call but they will both be top managers very soon and highly sought after. Be patient and you will be rewarded.

You forgot the structure is now a DOF with a coach along side him ...have you not being following any of this Clee Red?

29 May 2012 19:46:50
I have absolutely no information. Just a very strong gut feeling. Call it 6th sense if you like. I keep getting a premonition, that it will all end in tears. FSG will appoint the wrong people. Our league position will suffer and important players will leave.
I have had the same feeling about negative things that have happened in the past. I have not been wrong yet.

Can't help wondering how you must have felt at half time in Istanbul

Very good question. I fell asleep with depression. Then woke up and it was 3-3.
I don't think that experience will happen again.
It was totally a different feeling from the bad gut feeling. Which generally happened a while before the event. Not so with Istanbul.
However I do have a good feeling about Rafa. Make of that, what you will.

saw ken aguero buying football manager today, he said scouting for his new job - dont shoot the messenger but its him sewn up for the job, get down the bookies {Ed022's Note - I have seen this so many times now, and I have to ask, who on earth is Ken Aguero?}

It's sort of a personal joke from ages ago when rumours of kun aguero moving to Liverpool were flying around. I can't remember how exactly it all started though think someone called him ken accidentally ring serious and it took off from there

Isn't he one of Kun Aguero's twin brothers?

Ken is kun's fictional brother, some bloke once wrote ken instead of kun, then everyone was jumping on the bandwaggen. thought this had come to a head, but it seems some people just cant let go

Kun's Brother

KoPeNdFaN

Only the old school posters will understand

ToonRed

Ed022,
I have two answers regarding your Ken Aguero questions:
1. Prior to Aguero joining City, there was much speculation on here (surprisingly) to him joining Liverpool.
One unfortunate poster, whose spelling left a little to be desired spelt his name as 'Ken' as opposed to 'Kun'.
Ken Aguero has at any given time been spotted on park benches, drinking out of paper bags, and willing to sign for any tean offering 8 Ace.
He had been invited to Boston to interview for the managers job, but he turned up in Lincolnshire instead.
2. To quote the Ed's, 'use the search function'......

Redjinal

Lfc were going to buy ken, last season and defo the season before.
that guys brothers mate gf`s bosses window cleaner,
kept seeing him at jl airport and in loads of taxis on his way to melwood!
then citeh bought him..
i tink dats rite?
does that help ed?
dbadger..

Garbage. He's going to be liverpools new director of communications.
I spotted him the other day buying loads of dry ice, for his smokescreen machine.

MIKEY

We should all get down the bookies and put a couple of quid on ken aguero and see if we can get him revealed as the favourite on the sky sports yellow band.
Dave wheelan will be getting interviewed saying he hopes Liverpool choose ken instead of Martinez.

MIKEY

Ed you told us kun aguero was unrealistic so we couldn't take it hence ken aguero was a realistic target

It began when I lad came on claiming that he worked at the Hilton in Liverpool and he had seen Ken Aguero checking into the pent house suit. He was dead serious, but called Kun Ken. His name comes up every transfer window since.

Scott78

He could have been a legend at lfc, but once he popped he couldn't stop he piled on the weight.

It's true, Ken Aguero is indeed our new first team coach; with his twin sister Kim Aguero installed as sports director.

I didn't say the hilton I said the crown plaza

Hi Ed. Posted earlier and mentioned 'baseball'? During mid/late 70s, early 80s there was only 3 places in UK that played English baseball. Cardiff,Newport and Liverpool. Regular internationals were played between England and Wales, both home and away. We would regularly go on tour to Liverpool and The Willowbank pub would be our pub. Ithink the baseball lads in Liverpool made it their HQ. Be interesting if any of the txters remember 'the good old days'? Anyway, hence the baseball quote. Cheers Ed. {Ed022's Note - I don't think I quite get the point mate.}

Used to play for The Willowbank.Used to have some great weekends in Cardiff and Newport. Great help for when the reds where down there every year while Wemnbley was closed. Our yearly fixture was against Gower sports

Hi macca, Villarreal got relegated this season, any chance of us making a move for Rossi and Nilmar? Both very good players and I feel Nilmar would link up well with suarez? Cheers. Cymraeg red {Ed022's Note - Impossible to say about Nilmar, but Rossi is out injured until next April at least, that is if he doesn't retire.}

Retire at 25??

Yeah his injuries are so bad these days that there is talk he won't come back from it this time. Villarreal would have never have been relegated with a fit Rossi this last season.

Ed

How much compinsation roughly did Benitez, Hodgson and Dalglish get each?

How much have we forked out in compinsation in the last 3 years?

If the new manager doesn't work out then that's more compinsation to be forked out..

Liverpool must have money to burn

SL76 {Ed022's Note - We have spent a fair bit, the most went to Rafa.}

As far as i am concerned as much as compensation may be surely its a small amount compared to a mediocre player. What have we paid out aprox £12 million max that gets you a Charlie Adam and a littel more Compensation payments should not guide you if a change is needed surely.

Mike

No stability in the club.
They shouldn't of got rid of Benitez to early..
They should have signed Hodgson on the back of a cup run..
They shouldn't of sacked Dalglish to early..

Benitez - 6.2m
hodgson - 8.00m
dalglish - 3.00m

The king told the owners he didn't want compo but to put it towards the transfer kitty. Yorkshire Red

Rafa gave a massive chunk to liverpool and even everton charities

Im sitting reading a lot about the way liverpool have broadcasted the full msnagerial process, am i the only but when did john w henry or snyone say we have 10/12 managers to interview its all pure speculation. The only confirmed is martinez snd thats because of big mouth whelan who wanrs the compensation.

You're absolutely right, I'm sick to death of the media saying LFC have turned this into a circus. It's the press that have done that, LFC haven't said anything apart from when they said that Martinez hadn't been offered the job.

A would really like martinez and believe it will be him. not many ppl will agree but at least the guys put in effort and showed he wants the job. Why else travel to miami n come straight home from a family holiday to discuss further? his brand of football is what Liverpool need! he is also very well respected in this country but also in Europe in particular Spain where in my eyes we should be trying to find talent or make purchases from! macca has been quiet but i no he only comes on if he receives genuine info so we might not be any further along the line of a new manager.

Hi Eds,

Ae you able to shed any light on Friday's meeting please? Have you any insider info that suggests it's solely to announce new sponsors or could be to announce manager or DoF?

Thanks

B-Red {Ed022's Note - I have nothing to share on it.}

29 May 2012 19:08:04
From ESPN
"Liverpool plan to make the announcement of their new manager on Friday, ESPN understands. They have whittled their list of candidates down to Wigan's Roberto Martinez and Swansea's Brendan Rodgers, after a thorough search for the right man to replace Kenny Dalglish."

I like ESPN mate and think they are usually reliable. But unless somthing offical comes from the club, I'll take this story with a pinch of salt. The media, bookies and especially that knobhead Whelan. Have turned this saga into a frenzy and has sent most of our heads spinning.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Ps. I f*cking hate SlySports. {Ed022's Note - Amen to that.}

Not that thorough. Seems like there were only ever these cheap options or bad choices (take your pick) in for consideration. I don't believe that FSG even looked beyond either. They are either misers or they have been badly advised.

But in spite of all the shenanigans, LFC will still be the greatest football club ever !!

Kris

Isn't this the day Wareior takeover the kit deal?

dmedly

After a thorough search for the right man to replace Kenny Dalglish FSG have not been able to find him so have settled for Martinez or Rodgers.

29 May 2012 19:02:01
Listen guys it is plainly obvious that John Henry and co, are playing their cards very close to their chest. The press in general do not have the faintest idea what is happening with regard to our next manager. The only reason they know anything about Martinez is because that person Dave Whelan has been blabbing rubbish to the press at every opportunity - perhaps he is doing his best to torpedo any potential deal for his manager. Whatever the truth it seems to have worked and perhaps Liverpool's interest has cooled in Martinez. However, I would not be surprised if Liverpool appoint a manager who NO-ONE has even considered! Either way the more that is speculated in the press the more you realise that these trashy journalists are just inventing stuff cos they don't really have a clue but have to entice us fans to buy papers by trying to convince us they know something!

I hope it`s someone compleatly off skys and the other gutter presses radar imagine their faces if it was a great manager who nobody has thought of someone like lowe (SPELLING) the german
I would love that.

I know you always say don't listen to the bookies but yday they were 3/1 about Kloop being manager and ED016 said no chance now he is 40/1, he also said no chance about Rodgers however he is as short as 1/8 with some bookies maybe he got this one wrong or do you still believe he will not be our next manager? Just seems very short for them to go on what seems to be guess work by them?

Big Mike {Ed022's Note - Odds are based on betting frequency mate. If I put £100,000 on myself to be the next Liverpool manager, my odds would drop significantly.}

Just like your bank balance!

Fair enough Ed good answer :) BM {Ed022's Note - No worries at all.}

Hi,

Could someone explain why so many messages say to get rafa back, yes he had trouble with the owners but was it the owners that stated they wanted other players to come in making the likes of alonso feel like they were not wanted

29 May 2012 18:53:19
Hi eds.

I just want to question the nature of the Director Of Football role.

If rumours are to be believed and LvG gets the role, then what exactly is the "broadness" of his duties?

Is it limited to transfers, contracts and middle man between manager and owners?

Or is it a little more involved, ie, telling players thier roles etc...and mentoring the current manager?

I imagine the word director and can picture a movie director telling his actors to do this or that...(silly I know), but it got me wondering.

If LvG does have a mentor type role over the manager, then I think it would work wonders for whoever the new boss is, as they'd be learning from one of the games finest!

StrabaneRed {Ed022's Note - This has been covered in detail before by Ed002, search for it mate and that'll beat any answer I can give you.}

29 May 2012 18:49:14
Ed/Macca,

SkySports are suggesting that an announcement is expected to be made by Liverpool, on Friday, regarding the vacant managers job.

With Martinez and Rodgers appearing to lead the way for the job, can we seriously expect either of these two to be unveiled as Liverpool manager??

I dont mind either (prefer Rodgers) however, Friday seems too soon considering they havent spoke to Klopp and Guardiola. And the Van Gaal issue is quite unclear also........

Can you shed any light on this?

Thanks

Kam {Ed022's Note - I expect an appointment to be made soon mate, but nobody has a clue on what's going on at the moment with candidates etc.}

Ok fair enough. Just out of interest who would you prefer if you had to choose from Martinez or Rodgers?

Thanks

29 May 2012 18:43:05
Can someone tell me what makes Brendan Rodgers and Martinez a better option than Van Gaal? Please i'm very confused, we want to bring in swansea or wigan's manager over the former Bayern Munich one who reached the champions league and has worked with players such as Robben Ribbery Gomez Lahm etc. I'm lost. What have I missed, did Rodgers/Martinez reach the champions league final as a mananger? Erm non, so why are they seen as front runners ahead of him? Anyone?

If Rodgers ends up as manager and Van Gaal DOF, I personally will be very happy. Van Gaal can attract the names and Rodgers has the right attacking and play football, mentality which is what we need!

If its the case then all I can say is well done FSG! Wish people would stop moaning about not knowing anything. isn't that what we always wanted!

Top work FSG!

CHickey.

29 May 2012 18:37:10
We need a strong coach ( cant say manager because we arnt after a manager) who is not afraid and can handle ego players.
Look a Hodgson and AVB for example.. They let the players win the dressing room.

We should continue the attacking football Dalglish started.

Dalglish did not play attacking football.

NotInTheKnow {Ed022's Note - To be honest, I'm unsure why we did. He was a top player for us and gave everything in every game. Strange one indeed.}

We would have scored a few more penalties with him last season too. He's the best taker of pens in th game IMO. I always thought it a rash decision by Rafa.

Nick

Nick.

Danny Murphy was a slightly better version of Jay Spearing with a few goals thrown in.
He's done well for Fulham but that's more his level.
ANFIELDPETE

Unbelievable, did you ever SEE Danny Murphy play? DM was class and he didn't just run around with his arms out.

We replaced Danny with Alonso, a better player than him. We then recruited Sissoko & Mascerano and had "the best midfield in the world".
Danny was surplus to requirements. Now he would walk into the side ahead of Adam, Henderson, Spearing, Shelvey, etc. But for most of the last 8 years we have had better players.
SDM will always be a legend for the winners at OT & the treble winning season!

Rodgers or Martinez? Who knows which of them would benefit us most? BR is a bit frightening when he eyeballs you and RM will be completely bald by 2014. Difficult choice.
Seriously though, I like Rodgers' attitude, the Swans' style and the fact that Mourinho selected him to coach the Chelsea Youth squad.
He must have noticed something.
As for those who doubt his experience - Bill Shankly came from a so-so Preston North End to change our history.
Martinez is a good guy and he speaks Spanish but no job offer yet means he isn't top of the list.
If you read this, John Henry, (and I hope you bloody well do) here's one oldtimer's vote for Brendan. Good luck to either of them - we all surely need it.
Apologies for the fact that I can spell proberly.

29 May 2012 18:25:08
All this confusion around the new boss, here's hoping that FSG are playing a blinder and creating a big smokescreen before unveiling a top class manager! The optimistic side of me thinks that, however realistically FSG may be an utter joke and mess this whole process up by appointing Martinez or Rodgers!

Ed/Macca......Any names that have been mentioned previously that you think could be being kept out of the spotlight........... with the media focussing on managers from England where leaks/info would be near impossible to keep quiet, could FSG surprise by going with De Boer, Laudrup, AVB for example?

You'll notice I didn't mention the K word!

Leffeman101 {Ed022's Note - If it is a surprise, how could we possibly know? My opinion is that I'm hoping FSG have been doing a hell of a lot of work behind the scenes away from the media, because right now I feel things are a tad chaotic and is creating a whole load of instability, which is what we've only just got out of!}

29 May 2012 18:23:00
How about van gaal joining now as dof and taking care of the transfers, then pep guadiola joining in time for pre season??
Think pep will managing in England next year so its either us or Chelsea?

29 May 2012 18:22:08
So its between Martinez and Rodgers. 1 of them will be announced on Friday. What has happened to our club? We are Liverpool. We are up there with the likes of Barca, Madrid, Man United, Chelsea, City, Arsenal. But yet if 1 of them was looking for a new manager then theres no way Martinez or Rodgers would even get an interview and yet all we have to choose between is them 2, Shocking. Sad to say but we are not a big club anymore, I think Kenny made us a laughing stock last season when he wasted over 100m on Adam, Downing, Henderson, Carroll and Coates. We cant attract big name managers and we cant attract big name players.

The appointment of our next manager is vital, especially after Hodgson and Kenny failed so badly, If Martinez/Rodgers fail then we'll be looking for another manager yet again, I cant believe bigger managers around the world even turned us down for interviews

Im not looking forward to next season, We've be going backwards the last 3 or 4 seasons, When will we be able to go for a league title again? Martinez or Rodgers will not get us there. Phil

Completely agree mate.

Both are very good young managers although I'm really hoping we get Rodgers with LVG as DoF. We are still a great club and still one of the biggest globally but our team is not as good as we all wish it was. Someone wrote earlier that we finished 7th, 6th and 8th the last 3 seasons. Seeing it put like that was quite shocking and I for one am wholeheartedly behind FSG who seem to be doing a very professional job. I wish we knew more but what can they really say other than we are looking for a new manager?

29 May 2012 18:20:06

come on, the owners cant sack KK and think brendan rodgers and roberto martinez are going to put the club back in the champions league they both have never won a cup other than a play off final win. Cant the owners see that 99% of fans dont want these they are good at there own clubs but not a club as big as liverpool. Surely another, much better manager is in place otherwise the club will be in a much worse state than it was last year.

29 May 2012 18:02:18
Whisper....di canio....you heard it first

Actually.... I heard 'Di Canio' before.
As for him being our new manager, I somehow doubt it.
FSG, I would imagine are keen to avoid any possible future controversy, and I can't see them appointing a known facist as manager of our club.

Hi Ed,

Am I missing something regarding Brendan Rogers or did he have a twin brother at Reading?

At Reading he took over a decent team & turned them around in the opposite direction. He didn't have a clue even though he had the full support of the chairman John Majeski. The end result was he left & the running of the team was taken over by Brian Mcdermott (who turned things around).

I can't believe FSG would be stupid enough as to hire a guy who isn't proven in the premier league yet.

Before others have a go it isn't unusual for a team to do well the 1st season & then struggle the next. If Brendan has another good season (along with Norwich etc) then maybe in the future they should be considered but not yet.

That's why a DOF and Technical Director will be installed - to help him do better. Have some faith.

29 May 2012 17:29:46
people on here talking about the next manager and what are style of play is going to be , Martinez and Rodgers style of play wont suit some of our players ,has Rodgers or Martinez had a tall pony tailed target man , no they have not they like the ball played to feet and pass and move ,with a bit of speed thrown in , again tall, pony tailed target men are not quick , so you can see theres going to be some problems straight away , downing is one of the worst players liverpool have ever had , and then you think how much we paid for him , my eyes are watering again , maybe BR or RM may keep him on the left and play him as a winger , and not an attacking midfielder , and they might tell hm to cross the ball instead of shooting ,

Am I not right in saying that, whilst Downing has neither a goal or assist on his record last year, he did provide a lot of chances that weren't converted?

So many crazy rumours! Some are saying that FSG have already got their man and simply waiting to announce. Some saying it's Brendan Rodgers, and some are saying Rodgers is just a smoke screen, so FSG can wrap up the Martinez deal under the radar.

For me personally, it is so hard to call between them both. But it really wouldn't bother me, as long as we have an experienced DoF in that isn't Louis Van Gaal. Txiki Begiristain to be precise.

I suppose if I had to favour either Martinez or Rodgers it would have to be the former. That though is just because I have a love for the 3-4-3 formation; that he so effectively used...

Been at work till now and haven't heard any thing so does any one know if Martinez has done his conference yet? if so what's the out come?

29 May 2012 17:17:44
Ed's can you tell me what you think, hypothetically about how Van Gaal as DOF will get on with Rogers or martinez if they get the role as manager. I say this as i don't personally thing Van is the right man at all. I think he would be amazing as getting us some excellent quality players from holland, which in mu opinion is a great place to grab talent from, but in terms of his role i think he would almost be deliberate in undermining his manager perhaps? I do think someone like AVB, or any far more experienced managers would be fine with him as they could stand their ground but feel the touted 2 (martinex & rogers would be looking over their shoulder
What do you think?
Also if you have time do you think if Van gets us access to some great players from overseas that that is perhaps more important that the manager + structure at this moment in time?

gareth {Ed001's Note - I think Rodgers and Martinez would be better choices to work with Van Gaal than someone like AVB. AVB would stand his ground and that is not going to achieve anything with Van Gaal.}

What's the thoughts on Laudrup and Van Gaal? I dont think hes out of the running just yet!

Cheers for response eds, your right again! AVB would stand his ground and that wouldnt work with van the man

In saying that though, sounds to me like Van the man for all the great signings is perhaps not a great thing at all for LFC. i personally as i said above do not want him regardless of the talent he could bring

Hey Ed's!
Just a suggestion but could you maybe create an Ed's info page where you share your knowledge of what's happening? It would just make it easier to locate the info and would stop (most) people from repeating questions!
Thanks! {Ed001's Note - we tried that once, it didn't work.}

Might be wrong but after all this is a rumours site...

Been told Rodgers is in Boston talking to FSG right now. He is set to be announced as manager on Thursday/Friday as far as I know... People close to him tell me that he is gonna be the manager aswell.

Klopp was high on our agenda but we are finding it hard to lure him away from Dortmund, understandably.

Duncan Jenkins has tweeted that Liverpool's search for a new manager is over. My bet is on Rodgers.

Not going to happen. Martinez is manager.

Brendan rodgers or roberto martinez as HEAD COACH.

DOF LVG to be annouced soon.

or atleast i hope so becoming the laughing stock of the league,

there is a big plan for LFC which the owners are putting in place it will either revolution football clubs or get a bif fat told you so, personally they are capable people mr werner etc and i think given time it will work and work well,

they are aware they cannot compete with likes of chelsea and man city financially but somtimes brains win leagues not 300 million every year,

29 May 2012 16:52:01
Hi Ed's. Post in rumors if possible please. Just an observation. Their have been some comments from former players and the odd one on here saying the way the manager selection has been handled isnt the Liverpool way. That may be true but does anyone else think the Liverpool way has failed miserably the last 4 seasons or so. The last two managers got us no where in the league and KK spent an awful lot on average players. Perhaps the Liverpool way needs tweeking a little. If we end up with the right person does it matter. Especially if they can bring in players of the quality we need.

Thats the whole point, there has been no liverpool way for the last 4 seasons

29 May 2012 16:46:12
Just saw coach from south wales outside the ground. Obviously this is why there are strong rumours about Brendan Rodgers?

I think we should be looking at Teeratep Winothai and Teerasil Dangda. Both of them are excellent players. Borh from Thailand,and since I spend all my soare time in Thailand i been watching them.

And since I doubt we will pay for kagawa or honda or what not,theese players are good and great for business(fsg).

Hi eds, is there any reason why we are supposedly trying to appoint Van Gaal as Director of Football, rather than manager? {Ed001's Note - because that is the position that FSG feel he is best suited for.}

29 May 2012 16:31:51
Odds heading in favour of Martinez now, all guess work and rumours, nobody knows anything, the bookies must love twitter {Ed001's Note - I wish Sly would stop stirring it with talk of Rodgers having a 2 hour meeting with his chairman. Every manager has long meetings with their chairmen at this time of year, it is to sort out targets and to prepare for the new season. Sly haven't a clue what is happening, just like me, but at least I just say I don't have a clue rather than making up stories!}

Obviously you don't own a bookies Ed!

Can one of the ed's please clarify whats happening with the managerial situation. News just broke that Rodgers hasnt been approached. Are we struggling to attract the candidates?
itsjef {Ed005's Note - We are struggling.}

If we're really struggling surely one of van gaal or rafa will do the job nicely !

We would'nt struggle if we approached Rafa!

Are we just left to Roberto now Ed?

Thanks Ed

Burnsy {Ed022's Note - Who knows.}

29 May 2012 15:49:59
I can't understand why so many people are saying, Martinez and Rodgers are not big enough to attract top players to LFC, as I understand , the manager may point out players who he thinks would add to the squad but it is actually the DOF etc who will bring the players in.
The managers job will be picking the team and deciding tactics,
is this correct ed's?
Martinez and Rodgers both play good attacing football, so why can they not do well with the liverpool squad, which only requires a couple of players to compete at the top next season.
With the squad these two managers had last season , they both did very well and all those who say if any of these are apointed then we will be in the Championship, then that must mean that Swansea and Wigan both have better squads than us .
So why not look at the big picture and get behind your team.
FSG are not quiters and will do what it takes to get to where they want to be and if the correct player comes along they have said they will make funds available.

kevc {Ed005's Note - The main job of the manager will be the team although I'm sure he'll have a say in players coming in.}

29 May 2012 15:48:08
Brendan Rodgers (good football, but not a big enough name Liverpool need, cant attract big European players)

Roberto Martinez ( same as Rodgers)

Andre Vilas Boas ( Portuguese Title, Portuguese Cup, Europa League, can attract top European players, only 34 years old, wasn't given a chance at Chelsea)

Louis Van Gaal (Stability, Experienced, Can attract big players, numerous titles)

Jurgen Klopp (dosnt want the job, simple)

Rafael Benitez (ridiculous signings at the end of his tenure, would be just going backwards, he has passion for Liverpool, he is adored by Liverpool fans, he would be able to attract big players, but wouldn't want to work with Director of Football)

Personally I would like to see ANDRE VILLAS-BOAS appointed with LOUIS VAN GAAL as Director of Football, giving him a £50-60million transfer kitty to work with. We will certainly get top 4 next season.

Rodgers and Van Gaal to aid the process would attract players. I'd be happy with that structure.

EVO

No way. Those two would not work together. Not just are they different but both VERY single minded and arrogant. They wouldn't last 6 months.

Stone YNWA.

I bet if rafa was approached and told you could have the Liverpool job under the structure they are putting in place or miss out on the opportunity, he would jump at the chance.
I would love to see him back where he belongs.

Roberto di matteo isnt a bit name manager.
money is everything... XD

Why is everyone assuming it is going to be Martinez or Rodgers, just because the press believe to think or spread these rumours, FSG have made no indication of whom there choice is or who the candidates are, its people assumptions, I personally think wigan owner is trying to get rid of martinez, he has kept them up the last 2 seasons but previous wigan managers were finishing much higher and he knows he can get Steve Bruce back.
FSG could shock everyone and our next manager might not be who we think it could be. Guardiola made a statement because he most likely is talking to a club due to the timing of his statement could well be us. There is always wishful thinking. I think us fans could also influence Guardiola by telling the world press how much we would appreciate him.

29 May 2012 15:41:46
I am loving the way FSG have put the entire media into a state of confusion. The Liverpool way is back!

I love it too mate, all these fans wanting to know what there doing don't realise this is how business should be done. If this was hicks/Gillette we would be getting running commentary making us look even worse!

Unbelievable for rodgers

How long will it be before Van Gaal upsets someone?
How long before the supporters are calling for Rodgers or Martinez to be sacked?
Like one of the editors I am not keen on either Martinez or Rodgers.
Andre Villas-Boas would be interesting, although I am not sure about him.
FSG will find it expensive if they don't get things right.
I know it is pessimistic, but I am not confident. I haven't been so for quite a while.

29 May 2012 15:19:09
First time poster here

If Liverpool are looking to appoint Brendan Rodgers as the new manager(New favourite with bookies and macca) i have 2 questions?

1) Why are swansea looking to get Gylfi Sigurdsson on a permanent transfer? will he not be a Rodgers signing?

2) If Sigurdsson is a preference for Rodgers why are Liverpool not putting a bid in to bring him with Rodgers to Anfield great player and at 22 has a great career ahead of him.

let me know what you all think?

Sorry forgot to sign off Jimbob85

Both valid questions however i don't feel we would actually need another CM with Lucas,Adam, Gerrard, Shelvey, Henderson already available with the likes of conor coady coming through etc. Maybe it was the one last thing rodgers wanted to do for swansea was secure that transfer. Personally i feel martinez is more realistic given rodgers has already publicly turned it down.

Shelvey and henderson, two of the reasons we are a poor team. red mick tag {Ed022's Note - Oh come on be serious.}

29 May 2012 15:17:51
What is going on with this Rogers situation, Swansea have come out twice and said that Brendan Rodgers has told them that he will be staying and is not interested in speaking to Liverpool but all the Bookies have him as favorite, some with odds as short as 1/4. Eds can you shine any light on this, are Liverpool talking with the Rogers or what? {Ed001's Note - it is just known that FSG like him, so people are assuming, it might well happen, but there is nothing done yet.}

I have been told today by a good source from Liverpool that liverpool will definately unvile Brendan Rogers as the new manager by the end of this week. Im based in Ireland but have a relative who is good friends with a number of ex reds. Everyone was finding it very hard to gather any information as the owners were keeping things very much to themselves in America but they are finializing plans for the unvieling and possible backlash from the fans. Oh and I believe people are in for a surprise with some other appointments which will be made. FSG have a clear plan.

Was your source sky sports, haha

I think the best we can hope for now is van gaal to be manager. After weeks of rumours and approaches to the likes of pep, avb, deschamps, klopp and de boar, it's down to a two horse race between Martinez and Rodgers. I've spent weeks trying to be possitive whoever gets the job, I've just got the same sick feeling as when hodgeson got the job. Think I would prefer Martinez over Rodgers though.

To all those who are linking Diame with Martinez and LFC .. wake up!

Martinez kept Diame out of the team @ Wigan as he refused to sign another contract, Diame fell out with Martinez over this.

Do you really think Martinez wants Diame and or diame wants to play for a manager who benched him for most of the second half of the season?

Use your little grey cells before you post..

This is making me laugh "we need a big name manager" "Rogers is not good enough" "Martinez not big enough for LFC".
If you look back on what managers have acheived success for us you will find none of them were big name managers. The great man himself Mr Shankly came from Huddersfield, Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan were promoted from the backroom and The king was given the job and he was still a player with no experience whatsoever in management.
What we need to do is back whoever takes charge and above all support the club and the owners, not slate them.

Can't believe all the Brendon Rodgers rumours, if the man was an ice cream, he's lick himself. He got the team from Martinez. Martinez will get the job, that is certain! I would love Rafa back or even Pepe, carra as number 2 because he will be our manager in the future, I'm sure of it. I think Martinez will be great but not sure if he can pull players although Liverpool can. Just need one right winger, get rid of Dirk 'so bad its untrue' Kuyt and we will fly.
{Ed003's Note - You have just made me want an ice cream,back in a bit}

He didnt quite get the team from martinez when martinez joined wigan he took 3 swansea players with him rodgers replaced them and got promotion something martinez failed to deliver in 2 years

So would i have Rafa back! In Rafa we trust!

29 May 2012 14:53:42
Would like to show my appreciation to Macca who nailed it once again said weeks ago that Rogers will be high on the list to be the new manager of LFC. Cheers for all the info you give. Thanks

29 May 2012 14:53:06
A question to people saying that rodgers doing well at swansea is all down to martinez.

How is it martinez hasn't done the same with wigan?

Surely rodgers must be doing something.

LAVERS

Some people will find the negative in everything to vent the frustration of being trapped in a s**tty life that they have created for themselves.

Exactly!!
The football we played under Woy disappeared when KK took over.
The football played under KK will evolve into the style of play the new manager wants.
Just because Martinez started it and Rodgers has the team still playing attractive football, could be because they have similar philosophies on how the game should be played.

There's no doubt Martinez laid the foundations at Swansea, Rodgers has just took it to another level.

However, I do believe that if it weren't for Martinez' foundations then it would have taken Rodgers a lot longer to have got his philosophy going.

That's my hunch anyway..

29 May 2012 14:44:51
As far as I'm concerned Adam and Downing were the worst signings this year.

Adam looks overweight and slow and Downing just doesnt have that killer instinct that he seemed to have at Aston Villa, both players were big fish in small ponds at their old clubs and now they are out of their depth at Anfield.

Personally I think Matt Jarvis would be a suitable replacement for Downing on the left wing, he'll go cheap too now that Wolves have been relegated.

Regarding midfield until Lucas returns somebody along the lines of Hatem Ben Arfa would be a massive signing for the club and would make the competitoon for places a bit tighter

Carra needs to move on.
Liverpool have a solid back 4 and Skrtel has really come into his own in the last 12 months. Somebody like Bassong would slide in their nicely.

As for up front, I think we're safe enough. Carroll is starting to come right although the Euros will tell alot, they key to success in next season is that the new manager will have to realise that Craig Bellamy is the main playmaker now, not Gerrard. Bellamy single handedly won the Carling Cup last year.

I imagine Kuyt will go to Hamburg too.

He might wait to see the new manager but if he isnt getting pitch time he'll go at christmas

Irish_Fan91

I think Adam was a good signing until Lucas got injured. 6/7 million is a standard offer for someone like Adam. I'm sure he is our top assister and he has like 3/4/5 goals to go with them. He isn't bad at all he just had a couple of bad games but for the first 15 or so games he was a revelation.

BthekingB

Up front is where we need strengthening most mate. Suarez and carroll can't do it all on their own. Kuyt will go and Bellamy will only be a year older. We need a striker to replace kuyt and a right winger to replace what kuyt does on the right.
We need a midfielder to cover for Lucas and a left back to cover/ provide competition for Enrique.
This would be my minimum this summer. Although I do expect a few more outgoings and incomings especially with a new manager/DOF coming in.

MIKEY

Matt jarvis is a poor man's downing

Just an idea, how about we aid Conte and Juventus' problems by taking Elia and Krasic on a season long loan, paying half of their wagers.

We can agree a deal in principle say £9 million for Krasic and £7 million for Elia.
We could put a trigger in both deals, 25 games or more would mean LFC have to bid the agreed amount for the players.

It would give competition within the squad and any new manager would have much more choices for players at possibly good prices.

It became impossible to justify the signings made by kenny.

First 15 games he was a revelation?? Charlie is that you?

Jarvis? Talk about a big fish in a small pond!

Although no formal announcement has been made, Louis Van Gaal is obviously nailed for DoF. I think this is a huge plus in our corner when trying to attract quality players! LVG will more than likely dictate style of play and have more authority with regards to football side of things than the "coach" (yes they are appointing a manager, but this will not be a manager in the traditional sense, more someone that follows orders)... a similar sort of role to Fergie and Wenger which actually works very well for clubs in spain!... LVG has won trophies almost everywhere he has gone and has always attracted top players! who ever the manager is, as long as he does as he's told, we'll be alright!

Please feel free to correct me anyone thinks i'm wrong.

Danski

I think you are right about LVG, but dont agree with your logic. No manager will join if the DoF can interfere with team affairs to such a large degree.

Red G

I feel LVG is the backup option should the manager fail to deliver the goods.
These owners are clearly not afraid of sacking.
If they can show no mercy to dalglish then they won't think twice of sacking a Martinez/Rodgers.
That's exactly why I think the set up will fail. The new manager will have LVG breathing down their neck all season, the threat of a sacking will only be a few bad results away next year and very few managers are going to want to take on that pressure.

Not a rumour just my thoughts, for what there worth.
Think our timing is poor in with no top managers available at the moment, fsg could maybe have done a deal with guadiola and kept kenny in place till he was ready too come. Kenny could have been informed and started working on pep's targets?? Pep has recently stated he could be enticed into a new job in a few month's, and after leaving spain england seems the obvious choice, that would leave us and Chelsea and would depend which 'project' he liked the look of

Maybe that's what we did and dalglish walked. That's actually taking the piss out of dalglish.

MIKEY

Obviously Kenny would of had to of agreed, but be if new he was going and felt he coulf help the club I think he may have done it as a labour of love. I would've loved Kenny to have been given longer but it wasn't to be

Why are people slagging off the owners for not giving any information, when, saying nothing until there is something to say, is meant to be "the Liverpool way"
The only clown who's been blabbing his mouth off with half truths is Dave Whelan. For me, the owners have, so far, acted as a true Liverpool supporter should want them to.
People may argue that the appointment should have been done quicker, but don't we all want them to explore every avenue and make the right decision in the end knowing that all possibilities have been exhausted.
I agree that the longer it goes on it could be to the detriment of making any signings this summer. But we are talking about building for the long term future of our club. This cannot be rushed for the sake of signing Diame or whoever else.
We have a decent enough squad to get by to start off with, and if we have time to make a few decent signings then all well and good.
I'm not saying that we may not have cause to criticise the owners in the future. We have to wait to see who their appointment is, how he works out and how they support him and the club. Only then can we judge in a positive or negative way.
I did not want Dalglish to go, unless they had a top class replacement. My view was, why make a sideways step, Dalglish could've got us 4th IMO, so any change would need to do better than that.
However, I'm prepared to bite my tongue for now and see what transpires.
We should all do the same. In a years time you could all be shouting about what great owners we have but, if that happened, I bet none of you would admit to being one of the fickle ones slagging them off now. And if it goes tits up then I'll be jumping on your bandwagons.

Aintree Red

This is why I didn't agree with the open letter from "Spirit of Shankly" group. It is hypocritical to say things should be done the "Liverpool Way", and then send a letter blasting the owners for not letting us know whats going on, have faith in FSG people, they want to be winners!

Me and my group of credible sources can confirm that there will be an interview the coming Friday. This will most likely be to announce the new manager.

P.S. Don't rule Swansea boss out as I can confirm he is one of the frontrunners for the job despite claiming he wasn't interested a couple of weeks ago.

It's funny because you look like you're saying you're 'in the know', but the reality is that you forgot the name of 'Swansea Boss'.

This Rogers fella looks a good choice to me, anybody who gets the sack ( sorry leaves by mutual concent ) at Reading after 6 months is obviously top draw...but on the other hand this Martinez fella might be right up our street with his attacking style that got them mullered 9-1 at Spurs and 8-0 at Chelsea, oh I forgot, it wasn't down to him it's because all the Wigan players are crap apparantly! Come on FSG get one of these top top candidates in a.s.a.p. so as to put us on the path to glory once again!!

Eds, can I say what a brilliant site you are running here, and also a great thanks for all the hard work. I am still amazed you have the patience to constantly reply to questions which you have clearly answered numerous times, and people just cant be bothered to read!!

This is not a rumour, but just a point I would like to make regarding people who are slating FSG, or think that FSG have made the process of looking for a manager a joke.

I think it is obvious to see that FSG are brilliant at keeping everything on lock down, and the only people who know what is currently going on behind these closed doors are FSG.

The media (bless them) are the ones who are making our great club a joke. Because by not having information they are the ones proposing all of these different contenders for the managerial post.

The only things we can say with certain is that we have approached 5 managerial candidates - AVB, Martinez, Rodgers, Klopp & LVG. After this we know diddly squat. Everything is being done behind closed doors away from the media (apart from bless him Dave Whelan, who feels it necessary to fill us all in).

I am full of confidence for the first time in many years, that by conducting our managers search in the way that FSG are, that we will get the best candidate for us, whereby FSG are not letting emotion come into their decision.

Regarding some of the candidates who have been mentioned - Pep, Mourinho, AVB, Martinez, Benitez, Klopp etc.....it is important to say that no-one can predict the future. No-one can categorically say that X or Y manager is better and will win us the league, if that was the case we wouldnt have been waiting 21 years for the holy grail. Yes some look good on paper, but that does not mean that they are the best. I am sure FSG are trying for someone who matches their own beliefs and whos beliefs matches theirs.

So to all my fellow members, please keep the faith...I for one applaud our owners, and have total faith that they will pick the best candidate and as such will support him fully.

BrummyBoy

Good post mate. At last someone talking sense for a change. I agree with all your points there.

Andy kophead.

Great post BrummyBoy. I have faith in FSG to ignore all the negativity created by the press and followed up on by gullable fans. Whatever decision they make, its clear to see they are hear to win so lets have some faith in them and not drive them out! They saved us from administration lets not forget and showed last year that they can splash the cash. What more can they do?!

If after 5 years they have not delivered, then critisism would be fair, but not yet.

So many fans and former players (including Lawrenson) called for a return to the 'Liverpool Way' of doing business behind closed doors after H&G. Now FSG are working behind closed doors, fans and former players (including Lawrenson) are critisising them.

Whoever FSG appoint, it will be a decision based on protecting and enhancing their investment, which means creating a winning team and selling shirts and merchanise!

Red G

Lets all just for one second assume that that FSG are here for the money (i.e. to sell us on and make a huge profit), then it is in their best interest to win and win well, invest in a stadium (or enhance Anfield), sort out the marketing etc.. as only then can they realise a profit.

Lets all assume that they are here for the long term and not just to make a quick buck, even then they are born winners, and will want to restore us to the top.

With FSG it seems that its a win win situation whether you are from the camp that dont trust them or from the camp that respect them.

I predict that next year we will invest to get back in the top four, and after that on to win the league.

Brummyboy

Would just like to make a couple of points about the 'FANS' we need to take responsibilty for a lot of heartache at the club in recent times i have been a season ticket holder for the last 12 years and have witnessed the up's in support and sadly in the last 3 years the downs, it used to be a rocking stadium that people feared coming to, but not any longer because all of us sit there and pick on players and staff now our focus is on the OWNERS THAT SAVED THE CLUB we need to get a grip as fans and start backing the club, WE MUST DILUTE THE MILITANT out look that is inherent in us scousers and stop playing the victim card because we are slowly becoming the masters of our own downfall. If we have clubs such as swansea and blackpool coming to anfield and knocking the ball around like barca then there is a problem because them same teams go to the emirates, WHL, old trafford and the Ethiad and crumble. Thats mainly due to the confidence that the team draw from the stands. I sit in the main stand and have listened to people baracking henderson, stevie and even suarez at times i mean for gods sake why. I just think in this media infested world we loose perspective and we want instant rewards and gratification for minor things, we must always remember that we part with our hard earned cash for the love of the BIRD and everything we used to stand for such as being HUMBLE in defeat and victory as well as accepting that JWH parted with his hard earned cash to save us. We are in it together the board the fans and most of all the PLAYERS lets get back to where we belong by pulling together and showing the country that we are nor bitter has beens but we are the future and once more watch the bird rise from the ashes and we shall again be the ones that burn the most in peoples hearts, as we loose a generation of support we must always have in mind the next generation, and if you want to look at the future if we dont change our ways then look at the BLUE half as we arernt that far from being them.

Paper Pusher

Good points, well made! A whole lotta truth in this.

Great post!

That has to be one of the best posts ive seen on here. Thats put things into perspective for myself BIG time. Your absolutely right, and speaking for myself I need to have patience in the re-structuring of our football club just as much as anyone. My opinions recently have been based on the advice given to JWH regarding certain things, but as you say barracking the club or the next manager or group of players via interet, being in the pub or at the game isnt going to help our situation. congratulations on a great post!

Fed up of the 'FSG apologists' saying 'give them a chance and stop asking for instant success'. To them I reply- We had instant success, Kenny won a trophy in his first season and was runner up in another, but FSG sacked him.
It's clear FSG set the 'instant success' benchmark. One trophy and one runners up in your first season will not be good enough.
If whoever comes in doesn't win more than Kenny next season I expect FSG to sack them, otherwise they are guilty of poor leadership and double standards.

It's all about the league the cups are a bonus if you win them but their not priority FSG made the right call he couldn't be trusted with another penny with the players he bought

I think success is judged on how you do in the league and getting in 2 the champs league if your a club like liverpool and kenny did terrible in the league nowhere near champs league.I would have given him another season but obviously the owners taught different.

In what way was an 8th place finish 'Instant Success' ?

Did you see where we finished in the league and the football we played this season? Wake up and get a grip. Winning that cup and being runners up in the fa cup is not good enough for LFC and our owners know that and that`s why they are taking their time to get the right man. If you can`t see that mate you need to go to specsavers.

Andy kophead.

Isnt it a good thing that we have owners with very high standards?! We are LFC.... 2nd is nowhere, let alone 8th!!

Red G

That's fine Red G but we're going to go through more managers than Chelsea in that case.
Sooner or later we'll need new owners because sacking a manager who doesn't win the league in their first season will soon see the club bankrupt.

In the famous words of Victor Meldrew ''I don't believe It.''

I do not believe that Liverpool are interested in selling Jordan Henderson, not after spending the best part of £20 million on getting him.

Charlie Adam, i believe he could be sold. Jay Spearing should be sold, Aquilani needs to be sold. We need Cole of the £90k a week he's on and all, and no, i don't care what he said in his interview, or how well or did or didn't speak of the club, fans and City of Liverpool.

Jordan Henderson we should keep, he's going to be very good in time, i think it's the ugly duck syndrome, much like Lucas went through. Even new boy Roy has given him a game for England and got Henderson on the reserve list.

That's great news, with an actual game plan to follow, like Henderson had at Sunderland, he and Shelvey in the coming years could be very good together.

In fact, as the season progressed and it was apparent that Liverpool FC were going to be in for a bumpy ride, again. I thought the likes of Carroll and Henderson's character was phenomenal.

It took Carroll confronting the Newcastle fans at St James Sports Direct Arena and being subbed after cracking from the abuse for Carroll too realise that we, LFC is his new stomping ground. Once that game was over, he's been a man possessed.

Sorry as this post is not a rumour, it's in spite of a rumour.

Good point about andy Carroll, I never thought his recent form could have anything to do with his return to newcastle.
Obviously it's not the only reason but something may well have clicked in his
head and we are reaping the rewards.
I'm hoping he has a great summer and comes back full of confidence.

If it's baseball they want to play, can somebody please send them down to the Willowbank, it's only a five minute walk from the Kop.This whole sad saga is a disgrace and we are now a complete laughing stock. We seem to get all our news from Dave Whelan! As for Martinez, well if you have to THINK about taking a job like this one? Tells us all we need to know. I agree with this post, if were really going for martinez and rodgers then this fsg have brought the wrong club. What do they think they bought ' pound land '? No wonder why they dont contact benitez, because he would find them out straight away. Instead they want a 'yes' man. We will soon see if they are any better then the last lot, or worse! RedTurk

They're bang on the ball as far as I can see. everything kept 'inhouse' as it should be. They have no control over mouthy tools like whelan like wise the gutter brit press who have actually reported that our next manager has already turned us down. I like what they're doing, a top DOF who can get players in and a manager, who knows the prem league, that can get them playing as a team. I maybe alone in thinking this but it's what it's going to be. Get over it already( as the yanks might say )

Leave the willowbank ,i play pool in there

Couldn't even be bothered to find out or know if they were buried or cremated "as with Bill Shankly" before you used the old line of fools "they'd be Jumping/turning in their graves.

I actually think its the media and to some extent the fans that are making this club a laughing stock. Shanks WOULD be turning in his grave if he knew how some so called fans are behaving...giving the media plenty of fuel for the fire! Support the team through thick and thin! I don't think some supporters know how to do it. If we're not careful, the fans will be the downfall of the mighty reds.

Hi eds and macca why do you think Martin O'Neill was never considered by the owners would conpensation to sunderland cost too much? great site thanks for all the info. {Ed001's Note - because he is simply not a very good manager. He constantly throws tantrums about money, he has a team of favourites and plays those 11 players in every match, regardless of any tiredness, unless injuries interfere. The football his teams play is dire, all about one big lump up front and hoof it up to him. He buys expensive players, on big wages, only to sit them on the bench and never give them a chance to play.}

29 May 2012 13:28:23
If Roberto Martinez doesn't get the Liverpool job, then Martinez should give Dave Whelan a big thank you and a bouquet of flowers for being completely unprofessional during Martinez's chance at moving on too a much bigger club with a genuine project, instead of relegation battles after relegation battles.

Which after the player exodus at Wigan is over, they'll be extremely lucky to survive the drop next season, even more so than usual.

Truthfully, i'd not want to go back too Wigan if i was Martinez, how could anyone want to go back after Whelan's helped torpedo your chances, which may have been slim to start with, but have not been helped one iota by unprofessional Whelan.

Forget FSG's offer to Martinez, forget Martinez's issue about lack of total control, if he moved to Liverpool as manager.

Just the basic premise of discretion being desired as well as professionalism, with the owner of Wigan blabbing everything to the press, after he demands that Martinez keeps him a breast all developments.

If Liverpool don't grab Martinez up, then i hope Villa do and Wigan's Whelan end up with Steve Bruce back in charge.

I understand Whelan feels he is duty bound to the Wigan fans, but even some Wigan fans are upset that Whelan is acting the way he is. Their is even talk of Whelan begging Martinez not too leave. What the hell is up with that, if true.

Steve Bruce should include a gagging order on Dave Whelan if any potential job interviews arise in his time, should he be made the new Wigan manager after Martinez leaves for either Liverpool or Villa. Otherwise Bruce's chances of getting a better job will also be torpedoed by the U-boat that is Dave Whelan.

You need to ask yourself how Whelan knows so much about the process. He is being unprofessional by blabbing to the media all the time, but Martinez is being just as unprofessional by updating Whelan on everything LFC say or do!

If I was going for a new job, I certainly wouldn't share every detail that is discussed with my current employer?!

If the media circus costs Martinez the job, he has himself to blame too!

LFC_SA

Martinez has gotten far too chummy with Whelan, because Whelan's like that, so Martinez, unless he wants to have a non existent working relationship, should he stay at Wigan, has to keep Whelan in the know to a degree.

Especially now that Whelan has been making deadlines and moving them back and creating unneeded pressure and media drama.

Martinez has always been between a Rock and a hard place. Whelan promised Martinez that he would never stand in his way, should a big club offer come in, Well since Liverpool's interest has been known and confirmed, Whelan has been leaking everything he can to wobble the boat.

To write this off as ''Martinez's fault'' is ridiculous, when Whelan is breaking Martinez's trust and the chance of getting a job at a better club.

As a rafa fan, I'm still not excited but I'm now feeling a slightly more comfortable with the idea

I read this interview following a link posted to this site. Definitely worth a read. My favourite part:
He will watch the recording of a Wigan match as many as 10 times, particularly when they lose. He says he cannot move on until he is satisfied that he understands exactly why they lost.
'I have a 60-inch pen-touch screen that allows you to write on it. You link it to your computer so it becomes a 60-inch computer screen really and you can use the ProZone software with it.

People should not suggest Martinez will be anything like Hodgson. Roy is still trying to work out how to connect his vcr to his tv so he can tape motd.

Could someone please explain to me why there seems to be more support for Rodgers over Martinez? The style of play and the majority of the Swansea team was constructed by Martinez...so why is the man who, to a certain extent, inherited the work of Martinez being given more support by some over the man responsible for it in the first place? Just genuinely curious and would quite like the fans' opinions on this!

Two words....... DAVE WHELAN

Both as mediocre as each other

Good post, I was thinking the same

Maybe Martinez had taken Swansea as far as he could, and Rodgers came in, added some pieces, and took it further than Martinez was able to take it. If that is the case, I'd rather have Rodgers over Martinez. Just another way to look at it.

I know Liverpool Will bring the Players we needed with in the the end of the Transfer Window but if can do as soon as Possible, it Will benefit the team on and off the Field.

Has anybody even thought of the possibility of steven gerrard becoming player/coach just like dalglish,he has experience,alls that hes missing is a few daily rags bigging him up for the job.In my opinion its a step in the right direction,with a solid football director at the helm,and perhaps didi hamann or of similar ilk to didi pulling the strings in the back ground it could just be that the man who wears the captains arm band for club and country,could be one of our best options.just a bit of food for thought.47 years of joy and tears and i wouldnt change it for anything.ynwa..the gafffer tape

Renia, Johnson, Skertl, Agger, Enrique, Kuyt, Gerrard, Lucas, Cole Suarez and the big man Carroll up front in a sort of 4-5-1 switching to 4-3-3 formation. Funny thing is that the bench will be Doni, Carragher, Adam, Henderson and Downing

29 May 2012 12:50:11
It feels sick seeing liverpool manager search last this long...other clubs chasing all the world class player while we trying hard to talk to mediocre managers

And what world class players are these ? muppet

Grow up

Its a joke Lawro speaks for you,me and suspect a lot more in Mirror,check it out {Ed001's Note - not for me he doesn't. I would expect most of us can speak for ourselves and have no need to get some nonsense out of a tabloid.}

Obviously Ed i apologise as your more knowledgable then an Ex Red player

29 May 2012 12:49:56
Not a rumour but more of an observation, all this talk of Martinez has only been coming from Dave Whelan. Has anything actually come from LFC or FSG? Surely there must be someone trying to get Pep Guardiola in the hotseat, he has said that if a club seduced him enough he would consider (even though he also said he wants a year out). Do you think that something maybe happening in the background trying to do everything they can to bring Pep in as the next boss?Also, why would Van Gaal be saying he expects LFC to announce this week reference his appointment? Van Gaal DOF and PG as manager?? Any thoughts?

Why exactly would pep be the man for the job? Clearly you know nothing and think he's great because he was at barcelona. We need a proven manager. .even martinez is more proven than pep. And would be a hell of a lot cheaper..

29 May 2012 12:49:20
Ed(s), am I wrong to be concerned about Louis Van Gaal becoming our DoF?

For a Head Coach & a DoF to work together they both have to be diplomatic. With what I am hearing LVG seems very single minded and arrogant. So how could he possibly work with a Head Coach & make it successful? The only way is if the Head Coach plays as the puppet - LVG's yes man if you like. But, no manager strong enough to take on the Liverpool job is weak enough to be a 'yes man'.

Please reassure me if I'm wrong...

Cheers,

Stone YNWA. {Ed001's Note - that is exactly the same fear I have. Unless Van Gaal is employed for a limited period, to set the club up, then leaves to give the manager more freedom. But that makes a mockery of the idea behind a DoF, who is meant to be the long term overseer, giving stability to a club, even in the event of a managerial change.}

Okay, cheers Ed001.

Do you know if Txiki is still in the running? If he ever was like...

Stone YNWA. {Ed001's Note - he was certainly an initial target, I really don't know if he is out of the running or not.}

29 May 2012 12:46:40
Pep is on the way!
Txiki was secretly installed as DoF the day after KK was sacked and Pep has already agreed to become manager, but both have bought in to FSG's policy of conducting business behind closed doors. There will be a substantial investment in 2-3 first team players for the coming season, with the long term aims of continuing the good work at the academy and building a new dynasty.

BigBadBen

I have been waiting for a post like this for days now, but no one with any 'sources' has bothered to make one up. so I made it up. I feel better now.

29 May 2012 12:46:25
More passing and moving? Come on they are all proffesionals and can pass the ball. Plus, andy carroll has been getting into pretty formidable form of late, so why sell him?

29 May 2012 12:43:34
A big surprise for me would be Di Matteo as after all he's done at Chelsea they still can't give him an answer, he might just jump ship to us.
KernowRed

He will be the worst choice. He was just lucky to beat us and bayern in FA cup and CL...

May aswell have Terry Lampard or Cech

I don't understand why people are calling us a joke.

It's the end of season so we can afford a couple of weeks in finding our new manager , who the owners hope will stay for a long time.

Managers coming out and turning us down have no choice.

If managers announced to the world there having interviews with other clubs they face a backlash from fans.

We only know of martinez because off whelan.

FSG aren't stupid they know we need to be getting top 4 atleast , so I'm sure they will get the best manager they can.

LAVERS

Good post. Makes a change from all the mindless rubbish. Some of our Supporters are starting to sound more bitter and twisted than some other well know supporters

29 May 2012 12:41:59
im really suprised that most people here havent said how worried they are

i think lfc are in big big trouble..........sacking id say was the right decision..but not having any idea of replacing him straight away..is so schoolboy.

when you sum up everything that has happened with lfc so far......you have to agree...these owners or management really aint got a clue..

i guarantee some of our top players will be gone before the season starts... and THIS TIME...i wouldnt blame anyone for leaving...

It's actually the opposite of 'schoolboy'. In most successful businesses, if someone,is under-performing they will take decisive action and sack them. Then they look at opportunities to replace them. If someone under-performs and execs hang on until they've got a replacement before sacking its actually procrastination and a daft way of running a business as the mismanagement of the employee continues during the new candidate review process. Don't expect you all to agree but it is how successful corps act

It's only been 2 week! I'd stop reading the press, they obviously getting into your head. They no nothing so have to make out that Liverpool are clueless when in fact it's them. Same goes for DW

Only ?

29 May 2012 12:41:23
All you Kenny haters are the ones on here blowing smoke up FSG's arse about how astute they are, clever men with a long term vision for the club! They are turning us into a laughing stock, the amount of texts I have had ripping the piss out of us is growing day by day, with no defence from me because there is no defence. Funny how the ones who wanted rid of Kenny have been very quite about praising FSG for doing it, your kissing there arse because they delivered what you wanted so you have no other choice but to praise them to high heaven! Brace yourselves for the bararge of abuse aimed at you when they drag are club further into the mire!

Waro

Whats wrong with you? getting all upset because youre mates are slagging you? Grow a set and keep the head ffs.
galls

Did someone hurt yor feelings? Do you want me to get you an ice cream to make you feel better?

Get a grip mate, things will be taken care. Mayb you should run the club, I'm sure such an experienced business man such as youself could easily take on the day to day running and restructuring of the club? And you woul have probably had this mangerial buisness all wrapped up by now? Right?

davethebutcher

Waro - I would like to praise FSG for relieving Kenny Dalglish of his duties.
That clear enough for you ?

Puzzled

Stop being so small minded and concerned about winning arguments with your mates and take a course in business. FSG are doing it by the book the same as any other big club would do. Fans wanted KK, he's a legend and we love him but he took us further down the table so owners have bought the right to look for someone they think can be more successful. It's people with your attitude that are giving Liverpool fans a bad reputation.

Only time will tell Waro mate.

Get a grip man. Who cares what your Manc mates think, they'll try and rip the piss regardless. You need to grow some thicker skin.

Sky Sports News have hust announced Brendan Rodgers is now massive favourite to take the managers job. I had a look on Paddy Power and he is now 1/2 with Martinez 2nd favourite. Something must be happening. Expect an announcement this evening.

No it means more people are putting money on Rodgers now than Martinez, that's all

Is it possible that Martinez could be DOF with Rogers as Manager?

a question to the edds with inside connections and macca,it seems a lot tighter to get inside info,do you think it is a good thing?and because the media are writing negative stories about our situation is because they haven't got a clue as well.
frankyscouse
{Ed001's Note - I think it is a great thing for the club, I hated everything being in the open, even though it was better for the site! The media will just make up stories, rather than saying nothing, negative sells more, so negative is what we get.}

29 May 2012 12:23:38
rodgers would be a huge gamble by the owners, hes had one good season at the top level, then again it could be a masterstroke..

LFC-IRE

Surely every manager is a huge gamble when they are appointed, Rodgers has massive potential and working with Van Gaal makes it even better for the club. Rodgers is a class act and if he can bring what he did at Swansea with very limited facilities and funds to Liverpool then he's the man for me.
Boozley

Your post could start a good discussion. My only question to anyone is why are some fans so happy to take a gamble on Rodgers who has only managed in the top flight for one season and yet they say it is wreckless to take the same risk with Martinez?

You could look at it as Rodgers inherited a team constructed by Martinez; or you could look at it as Martinez had taken a team as far as he could, and Rodgers took over that same team, and took them farther.

29 May 2012 12:21:17
it seems to me that over the past few season, players we are linked with all decide to go to another club.
unless you count top top signings like downing and adam :)

29 May 2012 12:20:11
Van Gaal/Martinez should be a good combination if:

-Van Gaal makes a few quality signings
-Martinez plays pretty football
-They both get respect from the players/backroom/fans

Here's hoping.

His agent has worked on Henry and got him to at least have a chat with him.
He may not get it but he is in the mix again.

Maybe he just wants to invite him for a barbecue.

He is the only manager for the job! Not much of a gamble like Martinez or Rodger's! In Rafa we trust!

29 May 2012 12:10:25
The more I watch interviews of Brendan Rodgers the more of a good feel gut feeling I get. I think back to last season and some of their performances, with their two wingers causing havoc at times at some big teams. Aside from that, he conducts himself well and with a confident yet strong personality. Something feels right about this. This is the football Andy needs.

DaveyBootle

Davey
From what I understand, FSG are looking to go Director of Football, a Technical Director to "ensure clarity of vision across all levels of the club" and a Head Coach. No one man will have sole input.
It seems to me that the senior role calls for an older, more experienced man and the coach role a younger person who is young enough to adapt to change and listen to the advice given.

Brendan Rodgers is expected to meet Liverpool's owners in the next few days as they continue their search for Kenny Dalglish's replacement,' says the Daily Telegraph, who claim that Roberto Martinez is not enamoured with the idea of working under a director of football, expected to be Louis van Gaal.

Can't see it myself, but this is another tabloid guess anyway! What do you all reckon?

I reckon the Daily Telegraph is a broadsheet and not a tabloid

Im sick of people saying that adam was a bad buy when he clearly wasnt if you look back at the season he creates most of the goals and downing is not a poor player he had a poor season but he is not a poor player

He loses the ball far too often! Even Blackpool fans said that, but he can't get away with that at Liverpool like he did at Blackpool.

Just heard that the new manager with be skydiving on to the anfield pitch on 1st June wearing the new liverpool kit. He will then run the length of the pitch, jump over the advertising boards into the kop where JH and TW will be waiting for him to sign his contract. Our new signings including Messi and Hazard (he will annouce his change of mind on Twitter in the next48 hrs) will then be fired from cannons out of anfield into Stanley Park with spades in their hands where they will commence digging the foundations of the new 75,000 seater stadium.

Its all coming together nicely

To some extent i agree with the Whelan - Liverpool are becoming clueless in their search for a new mananger - the owners are begining to show their true colours and ambition, especially when you think about their top targets ie Martinez/Rogers. They simply want a manger who operate on shoe string budgets, Im afarid if this is the road we are heading down, then we are doomed for mid to low table finishes until these American Owners are out!!

With very little net spend in the transfer market since theyve come and their lack of ambition in search of a manager shows they were really never in it for the long term - Roma who they also own find themselves in a similar position - managerless, clueless and unable to attract a top name manager!!

{Ed001's Note - they do not own Roma.}

If you agree with Whelan you are a complete prune. Whelan wants to know by Thursday - if he doesn't hear what is he going to do? Sack Martinez? Tell him he can't leave? Order FSG to make a decision? Whelan is not in control and is just squealing to the press.
As for the comment about owners with very little net spend....compare this with the comments like KD spending 100 million on poor players. Some people will just make anything add up to make their point sound sensible. Fortunately this un-named poster is not a fan and is just trying to spread cr*p.

I believe kloop was top target was he not that is definately not lack of ambition is it

Whealn is doing what any other owner would do - get a decision and move on, Martinez is contracted to his club so he has every right and you forget one thing Whelan gave permission to his manager to speak to LFC. Clearly you are not a fan and referring to the Kings signings as poor - IF YOU ARE A FAN YOU DISSAPOINTMENT ME AND MANY OTHERS, CLEARLY WE CAN CANNOT RELY ON YOUR SUPPORT!!

just a quick question, everyone is talking about how kenny signed players like henderson, adam, carroll etc. But he is not the one that signed these players was he? it was damien commill wasnt it? and thats why he left?
thanks, zack

Yeah but Dalgish had final say from his own mouth. Kenny told Comolli who he wanted and Comolli got them. He lost his job as he couldnt sell food to a hunger person and LFC got ripped off.

Kenny bought them, he admitted it himself...

You must have been born in a barn without a tv. Kenny has come out and said they were his choices move on kennys record spoke for itself he had to be sacked no one is more importantant then the club not even kenny.

No, kenny said he wanted those players

Make no mistake about it they were all dalglish signings..

It was kenny

29 May 2012 11:27:48
hello all, i think that its time we just sit back and wait and see what happens with the manager situation. i mean honestly we might as well call it fort anfield these days for the lack of info that comes out of it. does anyone actually know what the situation is and who the yanks have got it mind?....answer is simple ...no! no disrespect to the eds or anyone else whos guessing who its gonna be i just think that soon enougth were have our answer! we all want whats best for our club but believe me when i say the yanks have a bigger picture. keep up the good work eds. Alan {Ed001's Note - I agree with you mate, I have absolutely no idea who they are going to pick.}

Alan,
Very true assessment mate.
Notice all the press and Sky News always report on what Whelan says, a couple of pics and mainly what the bookies say. This tells me, nobody really knows and I suppose that's the way FSG do things.
If we get the man that produces next season, I couldn't give a crap whether it is the right or wrong way!
I am very excited anyway and the Eds have been excellent on here, thanks to them.
Bazzaa

Ed001,
Is Paul Tomkins taking the pi55 when he writes "a friend of a friend says FSG are talking to David Moyes" ?
If they are, I mean fair play in a way, cos Moyes has done a decent job.
But, if they are, what the f do they expect to happen there ? Moyes is NEVER gonna come to Liverpool.
The Real KB {Ed001's Note - the fact he says friend of a friend, would suggest to me he has his tongue firmly in his cheek.}

29 May 2012 11:26:55
I wonder when FSG will be making the annoucement on the new manager.
I know its only been two weeks, but it feels like much longer.
The lack of information is driving me nuts.

I bet if they told us everything you would be going nuts that we are washing our laundry in public ha-ha-ha-ha

29 May 2012 11:24:21
hi eds
do u think lack of action in appionting a manager is goin to effect the transferd players coming in to the club, they will need time to settle a learn the way we play? i meen utd got there players in early last year and it looked like they wer there a long time. or do we hav targets all ready with out a manager. and when we appoint that manager wat if he does not like the look of that target/player
fagan81
{Ed001's Note - impossible to say, it will all depend on who comes in as to what happens.}

29 May 2012 11:23:04
this is not a rumour but i'd like to add something , is whelan liverpool's new spokesman or something ? all he's talking about is liverpool being linked to martinez , i think he doesn't like liverpool and that he wants martinez to go at anfield to turn them into relegation battlers , in the middle of the season he didn't want martinez at wigan when wigan were like 2nd last on the table and now he's talking him up as some sort of world class manager , FSG should stop wasting time and sign the proven manager van gaal not gamble on the likes of martinez or rodgers , yes they could become great managers but that takes time and liverpool don't have that , van gaal would almost guarantee an top 4 spot because the guy is a specialist in terms of finishing at the top of the table and finishing 4th should be an minimum target for liverpool !!!

29 May 2012 11:21:33
Have fsg even considered pep? Seems to me Martinez is the only one they've even talked to or is it just good business an they are keeping their lips tight on the others the reason we know about interest in Martinez is the Wigan chairman mouthing off.hope they surprise us thanks great site ynwa

29 May 2012 11:18:04
Roberto Martinez will be installed as Liverpool Manager by Thursday, and wants to bring Victor Moses, Hugo Rodallega and Mohamed Diame with him. Martinez wants to bring this trio with him as a show of intent that he means business. Three good additions to the Liverpool squad which shouldn't cost very much, with Diame coming in on a free.

I believe that Rodellaga is on a free too. These three will give good strength to the team, and with another striker and a winger, would put us ready for next season.

Burnsy

So if Diames

Diame as cover for lucus that is all
Then I would like Munian Ramirez and de Jong

Or we could save even more money by simply closing Anfield down, leave Martinez and his players where they are and we could all just go up the east Lan'cs and become Wigan supporters...jeez!

SHOW OF INTENT TO WHO......I'M SURE CITY ARE QUAKING IN THERE BOOTS.

personally i wouldnt mind having rafa as manager again, i know there would be issues with rafa having complete control of things, but i reckon he could help the club progress, he has a proven track record and if it wasnt for the problems with the last owners we would probably still have him as manager. and during his last couple of seasons our team was playing the best we'd seen under him due to a change in formation , with a back 4, 2 holding midfields , attacking mid linking up with the attacker and midfielder, then the 2 wide players, and then a striker.
I would welcome Rafa back.
but then again, they do say dont come back for a second try
whats everyone elses opinion on rafa maybe coming back?

All for it! In Rafa we trust! {Ed001's Note - jesus it is like a cult!}

Why don't you want Rafa back Ed001? {Ed001's Note - he had his chance, he came in on a remit to win the league, he failed miserably and played boring, defensive football. He never sorted out the weaknesses in the squad, preferring to play players out of position to fill gaps. He put players on huge wages, putting the club into severe financial difficulties and leaving us with a wage bill way over what the club could possibly afford. He also washed the club's dirty linen in public and refused to accept any responsibility for his mess. He also alienated a major part of his success, Pako Ayesteran, and was a shadow of a manager without him.}

29 May 2012 10:52:38
Hi Eds,

Someone mentioned an interesting name to me on the weekend.... Marco van Basten. Its a bit 'out there' admittedly, but has he been mentioned at all and would he be available? He could work well with Van Gaal as DoF and would seem to fit the FSG profile.

Any idea where he is and if he could be an option?

Cheers

Red G {Ed001's Note - he has been mentioned, but no one seems to think he is a viable option. I have no idea why though.}

He will join Heerenveen as their manager next season ED.

AG

If LVG join as manager then MVB will join his assistent .

Maybe because he has flopped at every club he has managed?

Silly suggestion. I wish people would check managers credentials first before just throwing their names around.

He's a rubbish manager...hasnt proven anything or demonstrated he has any managerial ability at all.

Glad Ed001 is not involved in picking our new manager, if it was upto him we'd have Biesla who cant speak a word of English or Van Basten who has been a catastrophe everywhere he's gone.

Yet Ed001 cant stand the thought of a very qualified Benitez, madness. {Ed001's Note - don't talk nonsense, I have never suggested Van Basten, I don't want Van Basten. So please stop lying to try and sound like you know anything. I want Borrell, though Bielsa would be my first choice, like to know how you know he doesn't speak a word of English though? I am quite sure he would know a word or two at least, no matter what you may think. You are the mad one, who wants to bring back a man who failed and left us in this state. It is madness to keep trying the same thing over and over again after failing, which is what you want to do by returning to your beloved Rafa. Move on and grow up.}

How did Rafa fail Ed001? we we're ranked No.1 in Europe for 2/3 season's! Alway's in the CL bar his last season! He made some bad signing's but every top manager has made bad signing's! Plus he made us a substanstial profit on a few of our previous player's! I really can't understand how you can brand him a failier? And was'nt it upto person Parry to sort out wage's for player's! H&G left us in state not Rafa! And the state we're in now has got nothing to do with Rafa! He's been gone 2 year's And look how far we've fell since he's gone! In Rafa we trust! It's not a cult just how i sign off! {Ed001's Note - he clearly failed! Why do you cultists talk about crap like a ranking, it is irrelevant, he failed to win the league. He was brought in with a 5 year plan to win the Prem, that was his remit, he failed miserably to win it, and it was all his own fault because he refused to let the players attack until it was all too late.}

I believe the delay in announcing a new manager is because FSG are trying to pull out all the stops to bring in someone world class. They dont want to appoint a lesser name just because they can do it quicker, as many 'supporters' want them to do.

Have some patience people. Player/Manager contracts generally are still active at this time of year (from 01 June or 01 July), which will have an impact, as will the transfer window.

FSG said they would under promise and over deliver. Lets give them a chance to do so, as this is the first real chance they have had to stamp their presence on the club.

Quick vote:

Agree - Be patient to get the right man (Guardiola, Klopp, Loew, Biesla, Rijkaard, Laudrup, etc), even if it takes until the middle of June...... or

Disagree - Speed is key. If we cant get our ideal targets straight away, approach our second tier targets for immediate start (Martinez, Rodgers, AVB, van Gaal, etc).

I heard that Chelsea will be paying up to 78m for Hazard.

Now is it just me that thinks that 2x Cavani.... He may be talented but come on...

That like saying he is in the Ronaldo & Messi status in the football world. Only ever done it in France.

Really good player, but 30- 35m max, until he has proven it in a top european league.

redphil {Ed001's Note - the 78m includes wages.}

Hazard have to be ready for warming bench for sure. I mean look at the chelsea midfield ? they bought 2 more midfilder who they going to drop ? Mata , Ramirez Lampard ?

has Andre Villas Boas met with Liverpool ?
If he is to be the new manager, could he persuade Hulk to join us ? How much would Hulk cost ?

29 May 2012 10:41:11
I personally am delighted we didnt sign Hazard. All he is, is a money grabbin c**t. Playing with the media saying he 3 clubs to choose from is disgraceful. Obviously picked club who offer him more money than apperances. Disgrace. Hoping for Villas Boas as manager and LVG as Dof.
YNWA

The part about him picking money over appearances is not true man city were offering him more money but he had a lot more competition ie silva nasri ageuro hence him joining chelsea where he is almost gauranteed a starting place lets be hones we would all have loved hazard at liverpool dont know why their is so much sour grapes about him going to another club we never even tried for him we couldnt offer him the same sort of money as chelsea or man city. I think it was more his agent playing with the clubs to get his 6 million fee he allegedly got for his part in the deal fair play to him at least with him going to chelsea he stayed away from the manchester clubs got to say it would have been worse if he had joined whiskey nose imagine the gloating they would have been doing come to the biggest club in the world and the usual tripe they spout lol

aye eds,
been thinking that van gall as DoF and laudrup as manager wold be a good combination and realistic, what do u feel the likelyhood of this is??
cheers,
obsessed with the site
MrJimmy {Ed001's Note - I am not convinced Laudrup would work with Van Gaal. Van Gaal has a track record of upsetting people he works with, Laudrup has just left a job because of issues with the DoF.}

29 May 2012 10:33:11
I know this isn't Liverpool related but does anyone know who is responsible for buying Hazard and Marin at Chelsea as they don't have a permanent manager in place?

Hassan {Ed001's Note - the manager isn't responsible for buying players anyway. They still have a scouting structure in place and advisors who pick and seal deals for players. Basically a DoF is doing it, in all but name.}

29 May 2012 10:32:43
Martinez has just landed in England just now. The owners are are on mersyside too.

29 May 2012 10:32:02
Again just passing on what i have been told.

I am sure the names i get given will change..

"The talk from the players is the owners really want Rodgers..

Again i am only posting what i have been told, i am sure things will change..

I suppose the only people who know are the owners..

Also Kenny is happy to have left as the pressure was really starting to affect him..

He believes they are after Rodgers as well..

Cheers

Macca"

Many of the Swansea supporters are saying it will happen. Got to give credit where credit is due as Rodgers had declined an approach before this was posted. That appears to be my next manager prediction gone which was from the horses mouth. Anyway, I got 10/1 for this one as a sneaky bet. Nice one pal.

Liverpool to announce Roberto Martinez as new Liverpool Manager between 12 and 4, at the same time Louis Van Gaal will be announced as Sporting Director.
Martinez seen at a Manchester airport to throw reporters off track as he will now travel to Liverpool to hold further and final talks with the owners where they will finalise the move.

Ryad boudebouz liverpools version of Valencia from man utd? The kids definitely got some skill but I'm not sure what his attitude is like.. Very good squad player and would not only be the best winger at our club if we were to get him (minus any other wingers bought), he would add plenty of depth to our squad, especially for competitions such as the Europa league. I don't think he'd cost too much and wages wouldn't be extreme either. It's a tick from me! YNWA

hi eds

do we know if this press conference by Martinez at Wigan, is still happening today?

Cheers {Ed001's Note - I think you will have to play it by ear, things change so often it is impossible to be sure. At this moment, it looks like it won't be today, but in ten minutes time I am sure it will be back on, only to be off ten minutes after that. It really depends on Martinez, if he has made a decision, it will take place, but I don't know him personally to ask if he has!}

Liverpool Football Club today remembers the 39 football fans who died when a wall collapsed at the Heysel Stadium in Belgium on this day 27 years ago.

Managing director Ian Ayre will lay the club's floral tribute at the foot of the Heysel Memorial Plaque in the Centenary Stand this morning.

The tragedy unfolded on May 29, 1985, at the European Cup final between Liverpool and Juventus, when what should have been one of the greatest nights in the club's history turned into a nightmare.

Instead of leaving Brussels having seen our team lift a fifth European Cup, Liverpool supporters travelled back to England having witnessed the deaths of 39 football supporters including 32 Italian fans of Juventus, four Belgians, two from France and one man from Northern Ireland.

Completely sick of hearing Dave Whelan, I'm sure he loves the sound of his own voice but really he's irritating and embarrassing at the very best.
How dare he say the LFC owners are clueless? That's his opinion based on the fact we have approached him in the RIGHT way to speak to his manager about a vacancy we have. Sadly some of our fans piggyback on this opinion based on the fact nothing else is coming out of the club.
FSG are quite rightly taking their time to make the right appointment, not only manager, but other key areas of the club to ensure it functions correctly, which it hasn't done for 20 years or more.
Whelen may be able to replace the manager at the drop of a hat, but in a much larger organisation these decisions are vital and must be right anf they must look at many people to bring in the right person.
So Whelan, please stop belly aching about LFC and publicly bullying your manager in the media, go ahead make your smug and pompus annoucement that Roberto will stay - but for the record, if I were Roberto and would rather nip over to manage Blackburn than hang around you.

Rant over.

Morning Eds and all,
This is not a rumour and has not come from any sources, simply a thought.
Van Gaal seems to want to join, sounds positive from the rumours anyway, he would like a crack at managing rather DOF. Would it be considered that he manages this coming season with no DOF, with a view that he moves to DOF role at a later date and makes all the preparations of the team ready for a new manager?
If I was FSG it would be sensible to me and could save a lot of money, let's face it Van Gaal has pedigree.
Bazzaa. {Ed001's Note - personally I think he would be a mistake, he has never worked well with others for long and the DoF is meant to provide stability.}

Ed001, I see your point and thank you for your reply.
Do you think it is something they may think about if they struggle to get the right candidate for manager? It buys them time if they decide on Van Gaal as DoF.
Excuse my ignorance but what's Hiddink doing these days?
Bazzaa {Ed001's Note - Hiddink is not an option. If he was going to take a job he would be at Chelsea. I don't think they would consider Van Gaal as manager, except to step in when one leaves and needs to be replaced in the future.}

Van Gaal has won league titles in every country he has managed and has a european cup under his belt.

Who cares if he upsets people if he's delivering the goods?

Would you rather a yes man like hodgson or martinez who will get along with everyone and finish 5th every year or Benitez/Van Gaal who will come in, ruffle some feathers and deliver champions league football every year?

You fans need to make your mind up about what you want.

The most successful people in the world in every facet of society are usually people with a ruthless streak and a big ego who upset status quo.

Decide what you want because if you think we're gonna have a mr nice guy who will deliver results it aint gonna happen.

Van Gaal needs to be at our club in some capacity. When results are bad the players need to know that there is an authoritive figure breathing down their necks waiting to wield an axe.

Martinez is too nice. It will be a welcome balance with Van Gaal in a senior role above him. {Ed001's Note - the point is that he has only brought short term success and then it has descended into chaos. That is fine in a manager, but a DoF is meant to be a long term appointment, to provide long term stability and long term success.}

29 May 2012 10:01:08
I know it wouldnt/wont happen but who thinks Di Canio might be a shrewd appointment for an EPL team? Personally I think he,d do a great job.

Would rather have gus poyet than di canio gus looks a real promising manager
riley

I wouldn't want him at Liverpool just yet but I think he could go on to be a good manager. He took a Swindon side that was falling to pieces and dragged them straight back into League One, and he certainly seems to know how to get a team playing with passion. He's always getting sent back to the stands for running onto the pitch and celebrating with the players so he's clearly a bit of a nutter but the fans of any team he's in charge of are never going to have a dull moment. It would be interesting to see how he would do at somewhere like Blackburn. -SH-

BUT..have you seen today's news about Di Canio referring to a loan player by the colour of his skin...do you think the media would overlook that if he came to Liverpool...now or ever?

Can i have a quick moan Please? I know the sun is out (here anyhow) and i should be happy but surprised by the lack of faith in some supporters

Firstly find the amount of abuse Kuyt is getting hard to take and embarrassing! He has been a great servant and he is right, if you sit on the sidelines for games on ened of course you will not play great, but the guy is still a dutch international player, whether regular or not and the last time i checked the Dutch national team were pretty bloody good, Lets face it a lot better than the English national team who have spent far too many years playing boring football and seem to find it impossible to play with imagination or spirit.

Secondly, all this crap about we wish Martin Skyrtel would leave, or is at route of our problems blah blah blah!!!!!!??????

He is not hypia, but then not many players are or could ever be but Skyrtel has been great for us. Yes, he will give away the odd stupid penalty away, but without him we would have lost a hell of a lot more games! Cannot believe people are so stupid to suggest we should sell him! I shouldn't say stupid but i find it hard to tolerate is all

Also, i love Gerrard but i find it amusing that he never gets stick and personally i do not think he was great when he did play last year. In fact i would say he was poor! However, he does seem to been in a bracket of excused for injury and lack of match fitness blah blah, while Kuyt to many is deemed rubbish.

Also give some of our new players a chance. I personally thin Henderson is the worst of the bunch, but its not his fault we payed over the odds for him. Downing has great potential but seems to be nervous about running with the ball and has obviously lost confidence.
Adam is raw talent and just need time. He ran the show for blackpool and ran circles around LFC that year also. Yes he may be only excellent when the focus player but give him another year

ANYWAY, SORRY ABOUT THAT but please post eds just so i can see how many people spit fire at me lol

Gareth

Henderson is the one with great potential and Downing is the worst of the bunch. how can you talk about a 27 year old attacking player in terms of potential? he'll lose his pace soon and become a championship player

I wanted to agree with everything you said..But..I think Henderson is ok and will be very very good. I also think Adam is finding it very difficult to accept that he is good enough for Liverpool

Puzzled

Okay thanks for opinions though guys, i appreciate what people are thinking. Maybe im wrong about Henderson but to me he looks really wooden and not the type of player who is ever going to see a great pass often etc etc...
As for Adam, i think this year he will prove his worth, if he plays regularly. As for Downing, i know what you mean by potential but what i meant really is that he seems so low in confidence and there is no doubt he can run with the ball and i think like Torres he just needs to forget the price tag attached and enjoy playing again

Key question:

As a liverpool fan which would you rather have next season.

Playing strong organized structured football. We win the FA Cup and get 4th place.
(Mourinho Style at Chelsea/Inter Milan and Rafa Bentitez Liverpool style of a few years ago.)

Click Agree if you prefer this.

We play flowing attacking football thats beautiful to watch. We finish 5th and no trophy. (Arsenal style under Wenger/Swansea style this season)

Click Disagree if you prefer this.

Not going to influence this in anyway.

Davey Sulls

Sigh. .

I'd rather we played fast, flowing, attacking football and finish 4th and win the FA Cup.

Brendan Rodgers price with William Hill to be next Liverpool Manager has tumbled from 2/1 down to 8/13 favourite this morning and Martinez has drifted from 4/7 out to 2/1, that's a massive swing in prices.
So according to the Bookies? Rodgers will be our Manager.

29 May 2012 09:20:45
the liverpool way was... choose your new manager offer the job to your new manager and he accepts straight away or give him 24 hrs because if he needs to think about it then hes the wrong manager .please lets get back to the old values see if john aldridge would accept in one second or people like him who love the club not the contract ..these so called interviews leave me amazed and embarrased...

The LFC way ?

We need a 'Totally New Philosophy' - one that is 'Tactically aware & Technically astute' to focus the club on for the next 25 years , not one that stopped winning league titles 22 years ago .

The boot room's time is past due . Bring on the front office .

EdWood

What would you want our owners to do?. Rush and get a manager in right away and risk what happend last season again or worse. Or wait till they find the right man so we can have a bright new future ahead of us. I know i would rather wait and get the right man.

Andy kophead.

Hi eds, a question that's been on my mind since Benitez departure, why has Phil Thompson been over looked as our manager having done such a great job when GH was taken ill? Just baffled me as he knows his football, the club and his passion is unquestionable. Cheers eds YNWA {Ed001's Note - because he did not do that good a job. He is not a manager. He had a good couple of weeks with Ged in his ear, hardly indicative of a man to take over is it?}

To be fair to Phil Thompson he had a really good 4 months when Houllier was ill.
With him in charge we got better results and played better football. I agree he has never professed to be Manager Material however is very unfair Ed 1 to belittle his achievements as a caretaker! {Ed001's Note - you do realise that Ged spent those entire 4 months constantly telling Thommo what to do don't you?}

29 May 2012 09:11:35
my prediction:
liverpool to hire Van Gaal as DOF
either rodgers or martinez as manager.

Midway through the season the manager and DOF will have a fall out. Liverpool will finish 7th. Both will be sacked.
Rafa to be appointed as manager for the 2013/2014 season. Liverpool to win the league in 2016/2017

It just shows fsg lack ambition when we are going after diame instead of sissoko. When they are going after Martinez instead of someone with experience. When they still have not said a word about the stadium issues. When we sold this club we should have sold to someone who could build a new stadium not another bunk of yonks

The owners have got to pull something special out of the bag for manager or they are in BIG trouble. Ultimately it is fans who hold the ley to the success of their investment. They can only fail unless they have the fans on their side. If they are smart businessmen they will know this.
Already this summer we have seen them upset some families of Hillsbrough victims. It is hard for them to recover from this position. Then they go on to invite our living legend King Kenny over to Boston to sack him. The managerial appointment is make or break for them, get it wrong and their investment will look very bleak. It will be 3 strikes if you will.
That is why it will not be Rodgers or Martinez. They are too much of a risk. We know Guardiola is waiting for an offer, we've all heard the avb and Klopp rumours. To appoint a lower league manager with no track record of winning after their other 2 strikes would be football/business suicide.
Time for FSG to step up to the plate...

Wow, you need to get over yourself.

1st PG is taking time out! He will not manage any club at the start of the season!

2nd Klopp said NO to use!

3rd AVB has not been approached!

They clearly are successful business men, far more than you or I, and as for as your 3 strikes and your out crummy baseball reference.... SMH.

I think you and a lot of others fail to understand the problems FSG have face since taking over the club. It was run into the ground for 20 years and had no solid foundations to rebuild on. We had been left years behind the Mancs, Arsenal and Chelsea in all department. The only quick solution would have been to throw £Billions at the the club, like City have (Not smart business).

Give them time and have some patients... We will not have instant success that you crave but we will move forward and in time become great again.

The fans want Rafa or Kenny.

So it's fair to say the owners will not be listening to the fans this time. And they will take their sweet time, and do things their way.

What rubbish

29 May 2012 08:37:47
I personally feell that a martinez has been manager for a few days. I think that the owners and martinez want to keep things quite for a week or so while they set up their scouting for euro's and any potential players they are interested in. Hence we are hearing reports of players claiming interest from Liverpool. I think the relationship between Whelan and Martinez has been damaged a little because of how out spoken Whelan has been and therefore Martinez is simply saying he is just talking to LFC about Job rather than he has taken it and talking about the future.

Just a thought, stranger things have happened! The owners like to keep things secret.

Jd

If Martinez had been offered the job there's no way Dave 'Can anyone hear me' Whelan could keep his mouth shut about it.

cozinoz

I am sure it is illegal to say you don't have a different job even though you do, adding the fact that he is still in the wigan job.

29 May 2012 08:33:15
Can i just hasten the Dalglish/FSG Haters, The players brought in by KD where to steady a sinking ship. The restructuring by FSG clearly shows there was/is more wrong with LFC than Charlie Adam. The new appointments of Jen Chang and Billy Hogan show that FSG have practical knowledge in expanding LFC as a global franchise rather than having us as a "look at our history team".

When you appoint an new member of staff to a workplace you dont go at it lightly. they say on average a new starter cost £5000 in the public sector, can you imagine that being scaled up to EPL manager? its not a decision you rush into lightly. Due care and attention will be needed to sound out the best possible candidates for a 3-5 year plan not an impulse appointment to quash the "speak to rafa" muppets.

LFC Fans should really step back and stop being so fickle. support the direction the club is heading like we should, encourage our youth to develop rather than berating them and give up the witch hunt on FSG.

i predict our next manager will be, young, creative, innervation yet disciplined enough to work within the bounds of an FSG regime. so it would make sense our next manager being someone who isnt already massaging and overinflated ego.

I have worked away for years and always said to other fans how good our fans are at not turning on our players or managers too soon, it's a pity I can't say this anymore due to all our football manager fans wanting instant success! I think from our short list of managers the only one who could cope with our fans is van gaal due to being under pressure at a big club wanting success instead of getting a little team playing football and if they lose it was no surprise! Is van gaal still in the running ed? Thanks mate {Ed001's Note - he is still there as an option.}

Van Gaal is well known to take a season or more to drill the players into his way of playing. Whoever comes in we must give them time to get the squad and the philosophy right

Hazard for Chealsea is DONE , Martinez and Brendan wont join Liverpool - mark my word. We have surprise manager coming in to day for meeting with owner. Dont be surprise if its former Barca manager. YNWA

Not surprised. He was first choice from day one for FSG, I think

What has Hazard got to do with our next manager?

Right im looking at it this way right now as even im getting tired of at least no sort of comment from John Henry et al about the procedure theyre going through to find a manager......
Why?.......If Martinez ends up being announced have we gone through all this rigmarole and nonsense and putting our beloved club through the circus hoop again when we could have just offered him the job straight away and got on with our business quietly.......Hes the Wigan manager for shanks sake he should have walked from Wigan for the job without all this nonsense, I understand they claim to want to go through the options but i think we all sense it might be Martinez, just get on with it, were looking disorganised, NOT stupid as the press claim as id understand them doing their jobs behind closed doors but disorganised and more than a bit bumbling...........get it sorted FSG and quick.
The Guv 81-9 YNWA JFT96

What rigmarole? What nonsense? What exactly have fsg said? They are doing their business quietly. Almost silently, the only media circus is created by the media and Dave whelan is the only person to have spoken to them directly. Give them a break!

Stupid post. Clearly some of these posters have no idea of how a business works. FSG have a longterm plan and the manager position is crucial so why on earth would they not do due diligence with potential candidates

It wouldn't have been a 'circus act' if Whelan had kept shtum! FSG are going about things quietly so it isn't a 'circus act'..

Myk

29 May 2012 08:05:22
Manager situation is becoming a joke now...
Whelan needs to shut his trap and keep things private, it's clear to see he wants max compensation for rm and exposure for Wigan.
Heard klopp and Rodgers but they have either denied contact in swansea or declined the opportunity for klopp
Fsg need to make their minds up as ATM it is clear to see that they don't know who they want as manager they won't announce a dof and seem to be interviewing anyone the can manage
I know we need the right man but...
Bean

Why is it a joke, problem with fans today want everything now, just because you can click menu on a PS2 game and change things around, this isn't what happens in the real world

Heyy eds

Just heard in that roberto martinez WILL be named LFC manager (not sure when though)

Why you guys think Its going to be Klopp I really don't know.....cos it won't!!!

I think we'll let Kuyt go and get in Boudebouz and another top class strikers to play off Carroll or Suarez

Great site

YNWA FOREVER
{Ed001's Note - I am quite sure none of us editors have said anything of the sort regarding Klopp. Do you just make it up in your mind as you go along? You certainly haven't read anything I have said!}

I think the Klopp bit was aimed at other posters, not the Ed's.

Tommy Walsh {Ed001's Note - well he did address the post at us editors, so I wasn't sure, but just wanted to make the point just in case!}

29 May 2012 07:25:05
Guys, can we clip the Klopp rumours! Not happening, if LVG is to join wich appears increasingly likely your not going to have a very high profile manager vying for buying authority - too risky doesn't make sense at all... My 'guess' is LVG as manager because Martinez wants full control and FSG will go with pedigree not risk, might not be the solution they wanted but there's less chance of friction and continuity that way.

Be good to have some closure though so we can move on...

Just been told that Liverpool will announce their new management team on Friday to coincide with the new kit sponsor. LFC will be unveiling their new manager, DOF, Technical director and 1 other. Sorry but wasn't told names. The first signing of the new era will follow shortly afterwards.
Roll on Friday.
LFC82

Hopefully

High time we get started when others have already crossed half way in the race

In other words you just decided to make this up. The kit has nothing to do with anything you muppet

The kit sponsor is already standard chartered. its on the new kit already so why would be announcing a new one?

Sounds right because LVG has been saying it will be him thats announced

Not a rumour just an observation and wishful thinking ! Louis van Gaal was manager at Barcelona when Pep Guardiola was in the team , so already know each other and have worked together .

Get a Grip!!

Whats your point pep would never come to liverpool get real

29 May 2012 06:27:30
Hi eds, macca. Do you think FSG would hold off in terms of unveiling our new manager and DOF until after the 1st june so that in the press conference they can be surrounded by the new warrior sponsor logos etc instead of Adidas which runs till end of may? Or would this not matter?Just a thought! Thanks in advance for a reply. {Ed002's Note - It would not matter.}

Some so called fans make me laugh slagging of Dave whealn since kk departed they hav wanted info on who is going to be next manager he give u info u slag him off for it you can't hav it both ways

Dave just likes to be the centre of attention. He is a d**k

Yeah but we dont need him to update us every time someone asks him a question. We knew last week that RM was going for an interview we dont need him saying we are a mess and that RM should turn us down and slagging us just to keep RM give him transfer funds and a pay rise that might keep him now slagging us in the media

29 May 2012 05:58:43
Martinez is the only candidate to be interviewed,
which make him the most likely to be the next manager.

The_Anfield_Swallow

And how would you know ?

Stupid comment.

If he's the only candidate, why bother to interview him. Stop making things up please

Or rather he's the only candidate that we know for certain has been interviewed.

Sam.

What are the chances(out of 10) of us getting AVB as our manager?

Hi guys. I'm sure LFC will make a move for either of the Napoli strikers, Lavezzi or Cavani. Both strikers will be perfect support for Suarez and Carrol so its about how much we willing to spend and which of the two we will move for. If we sign either, that will be the only striker in and the owners will concentrate on our midfield so we can play a better passing and attacking game. Maybe a strong defender will come in to support Agger as I think Skirtel will leave and Cara won't be the first choice any more. Can't wait for the season to begin. Thanks for the updates Eds

I expect that the club is hoping that Downing has a good showing in the Euro's to do one of 2 things: justify his price tage, or raise his value for sale. Glen Johnson is reported to be wanted elsewhere and I think that he is the most replaceable older player, Kelly would do a good job for me barring injury. If Downing does well in the Euro's the 2 could raise 25M which could go to A. Johnson who I think should be the Club's prime Target or at least a RWM. Also, Clint Dempsey if at all possible with some change to spare. That would greatly upgrade the wings without breaking the bank.

Kelly offers little or nothing going forward. If he has a future at Anfield, it is as centre-half. If Johnson is sold, we will need to buy.

I don't understand the hype surrounding Adam Johnson! If he was that good, then why hasn't he even made the England squad for the euros?

Theo Walcott and Stewart Downing made the squad ahead of him for Christs sake.

I'd have Milner instead anyday. He's strong, can pass and cross and does his defensive duties, he's twice the player Johnson is.

Where did this Adam Johnson bandwagon come from? I wish it would go back.

StrabaneRed

How can you say Kelly offers nothing going forward?
Are we talking about the same Kelly I've been watching?

He's class, his only downfall is his hamstring issue

Siggle

Kelly has to be first choice right back next season.

For the price of those two you could probably buy Ibrahim Afellay, Gaston Ramirez/Ryan Boubaouz AND Markel Susaeta. I know who I'd prefer to have in the squad!

Milner over Johnson?? are you mental, Milner is rubbish and cant buy a goal. Johnson is quick, skillfull and has a great eye for goal. I dont know why Downing is in the squad ahead of him but maybe its because he's had limited first team footbal cause Mancini doesnt seem to like him or maybe because Hodgson is a turkey necked muppet who doesnt have the slightest breeze what he's at. Johnson would be a great buy if we could have him

He didnt play enough, but he's good.

I stupidly used to be a member of that site. I can confirm that it is the biggest waste of money. He just rehashes everything the media is saying and the so called insiders on there post utter crap getting the hopes up of all the sites members. Atleast the eds and Macca say it how it is and dont give false hope {Ed016's Note - What site is that?}

I assume KopTalk Ed016.

Nice of anonymous to make reference to what site he was talking to us about though ;)

I dont mind what the news is now i just want to know that its coming now...

Hello eds, ive just seen an interview on diame from wigan on skysports new apparently kenny was in talks with him and diame was very interested and gutted kenny was sacked, if we get martinez do you think the interest will still be there, And u think it would be a good move? {Ed005's Note - It doesn't matter whether we get Martinez or not, there is still possible interest there.}

Hey edds with the possability of l.v.g as dof what sort of players you think he could attract and has he got a name for spotting talent. All of this talk of being a mid table team is killing me but i fear its almost true i sayif we finish next season lower than 6th then am sorry but we a mid table team wow couple seasons no champions leauge thatskilling me aswell really cant wate for next season just think this year arsenal comeback against the spuds and utd beating arsenal 8.2 and sh**ty beating utd 6.1 we got 2 cup finals Already craving for the 1st game of season to kick off wonder if we put a cheeky bid in for r.v.p surely we win the leauge haha nyt peepz STEMLOCC1

We have to face facts - there are 4 if not 5 teams in a better place than us. Chelsea, Man U, Man C and Arsenal are all better in that they either have more money or a far more settled squad than we have. Even Spurs are currently probably in that bracket. Last season my heart said top 4 but my head said 6th. so 8th was disappointing. Next season we shall improve as long as we don't make too many sweeping changes. But with a change of manager and structure of the club, my head is saying 6th again.
On the playing front I think it is time we let SG sit alongside Lucas in a CDM role and find a new AMC. We do have Saurez who could fill that role with Big Andy up front of course but we need strength in depth.

Playing a back 4 negates the need for 2 defensive midfielders. A back 4 and 2 defensive mids equals boring ass football.

Alex Ferguson really knows what he is talking about, youth, youth, youth. The club is build on their young players. {Ed016's Note - Lol and they can not go a season without Scholes or Giggs.}

Finnally ed16. Your back..

How many players from their Youth system since the Late 90s!!!

Its all well and good slagging united off, i love it myself, but the hard truth of it is theyve been winning and challeging for tiltes while we have been a decent cup team

Diame had spoken to Dalglish and had set his heart on signing here, before Kenny was sacked. He would have been a good squad player.

29 May 2012 00:49:08
would it be far to say Martin Škrtel is the route of all our tactical problems. he is unable to press very high up the pitch, or start attacks in any meaningful way.

We should find a midfielder say someone who can run anymore (gerrard) turn him into a cultured cbk/mid. Push very high up the field and it will be alright.

What the hell? I've never heard anyone say something so ridiculous. Where do you want the Centre backs to be? In the opposing players box? Agger is the one who dribbles it out of their half and Skrtel is the sweeper. Simple.

BthekingB

Lol - i thought i was relatively uneducated when it came to footballing tactics, formations etc, but at least I think i possess more footballing intelligence than the original poster (notwithstanding they appear clueless).

Do you mean our player of the season ?

29 May 2012 00:42:47
Klopp's philosophy is premised on team cohesion and the maxim 'we are only as strong as our weakest point' is embodied by this Dortmund side better than any other in the league. Rather than putting the focus on star players, Klopp takes the belief that the team is bigger than any player to a whole other level. That doesn't mean that Dortmund hasn't had some star performers, quite the contrary- players like Matts Hummels and Mario Gotze have made the transfer wish list of some of Europe's finest. However, unlike Bayern Munich which has relied heavily on massive performances from star players (of whom they have plenty), Dortmund creates team goals, they score team efforts, they win and lose as a team and that's why Gotze's absence didn't do much to put a damper on their title charge.

It's that attacking and defending as a team mentality that provides the cornerstone for Dortmund's style. Any time you take a break and go down to any local/ community game between two amateur sides in any part of the world, you'll notice one thing, the players go where the ball goes, they tend to flood the area where the ball is. At professional level, players are expected to maintain shapes and defenders are expected to play in defence, midfielders in the middle and strikers forward.

In more ways than one, top teams are returning to the very basic tenets we see at amateur level. Guardiola explained early on in his tenure that he wanted a space of only 30 meters between his attack and defence at any given time which meant his team attacked as a unit and defended as a unit.

This is where Dortmund excels, they squeeze the pitch as much as possible and defend from the front. Strikers press the opposition defenders, midfielders follow suit and defenders push higher up the pitch closing down the opponent almost to the point of claustrophobia. The key difference between them and Barcelona is their approach once they have the ball. Rather than spreading out to widen the pitch and playing from side to side to control the possession, they look to attack as quickly as possible.

Sometimes they lose the ball quickly and start the pressing process again which makes their game seem like a chaotic high tempo. Doing this takes a lot of running and it was no surprise that they covered the most distance in one game in this season's Champions league group stages against Marseille (courtesy of opta stats). Somehow, they still managed to lose that tie.

Narrow 4-4-2/ 4-2-3-1 shape
Being strategic does not mean to tell others what to do. A large part of it is to define where not to tell them what to do – Jurgen Kopp.

Some have earmarked this shape as a 4-4-2, others a 4-2-3-1, 4-4-1-1 or even 4-5-1. While we can quibble over nomenclature, such is the disparate style of Dortmund's approach that those tags are right and wrong in equal measure. While the team's basic structure remains intact, Klopp believes in altering shape and movement depending on the opposition. Klopp is a student of the methods used by the legendary Freiburg coach Volker Finke. Finke, a straight shooter with his players led Freiburg to 3rd place in Germany's top division in their first season after promotion playing an entertainingly attacking brand of soccer with meager resources at his disposal. Never shot of a bon moot, he once remarked,

I don't want leaders in my team. That's a line of thinking that buries other players' strengths. The only kind of discipline that the team needs is that the players use their heads and make their own decisions."

Movement in possession is crucial in Klopp's eyes, but the key to his vision is movement off it. This is what makes Kagawa's role interesting. He is employed as a playmaker with a free role, an auxiliary striker or as a playmaking midfielder tasked with tracking the opposition's anchor-man. All this depends on the opposition and that's what makes it hard to brand Klopp's favorite shape.

For the most part though Dortmund employs an attacking 4-2-3-1 shape that presses high up the pitch and utilizes a very high backline. Matts Hummels' ability on the ball is crucial to Dortmund's strategy of playing from the back, he simply plays as the libero initiating attacks. In midfield, Bender/Kehl is tasked with breaking up play while Gundogan provides the link to the forwards. Whatever the shape, Klopp's men pepper the opposition's goal {Ed016's Note - You wrote all this and I can 110% garantee you will NOT see Klopp as our new manager. I can not stress this enough.}

I was gunna write what ed wrote. I stopped reading the post soon as i saw klopp!

FENWAY LOVE THE SWANSEA MODEL: what they have achieved but it took 5 years for them to get to this stage. Sucess is not a overnight thing

The Club moved to Liberty Stadium, Swansea.20,532 making it the largest purpose-built venue in Swansea.summer of 2005.

The following season saw manager Jackett resign mid-season to be replaced by Roberto Martinez.

Martinez's arrival saw an improvement in form, The famed "Swansea way" of playing football was upheld as the Swans played a style and quality of football that belonged to a much higher standard that their League One position would suggest.

consensus among League One managers was that the Swans were by far the best side

2008-09 - Roberto Martinez' second full season in charge saw the Swans compete for a top-six finish in the Coca-Cola Championship

Swans went on to impress managers and pundits alike as their fluid style of attractive football kept them in contention in the top half of the table.

2009-10 - It was all change for Swansea's second season in the Championship after manager Roberto Martinez left in the summer for a new challenge in the Premier League with Wigan

Taking: to wigan
Jordi Gomez
Jason Scotland (£2m, Swansea City)

Left
Àngel Rangel - 2007 Roberto Martínez
Ashley Williams -2008 -Roberto Martínez
Nathan Dyer - 2009 Martinez signing

Rogers signings
GK-Michel Vorm - Rogers
Steven Caulker - Loan - Rogers
Scott Sinclair - Rogers 1.5m Chelsea
Gylfi Sigurdsson - Rogers

Bradon Rogers Vs Roberto Martínez

When comparing the two managers, I think Roberto Martinez gutted the heart of the team and took it with him to Wigan. The creative guy in midfield, the strong target man, and wondering loan signing Dyer running on the wings. (surprised he didn't take him to the wigan/premiership)

Martinez also bought Ashley Williams who has wonderful passing for cbk. So the style was set up by Martinez.

Bradon Rogers fixed the team by finding 4 great players for next to nothing. gk been fantastic , Caulker was a good loan signing. But getting Scott Sinclair for 1.5m from Chelsea. Gylfi Sigurdsson was a great loan siging

Martinez at Wigan, what has he achieved?

2007–2009 England Steve Bruce
2009– Spain Roberto Martínez

Steve Bruce bought in some good players and got them to mid-table, Martinez has kept them in and around bottom three since he got their.

In 2009 he spent 3.9m in total including signing James McCarthy and let Valencia leave for 16m. 2010 in Gary Caldwell & Victor Moses

Roberto Martínez may be a very good operator in transfer market.

Eden hazzard: 24 months ago " if i ever move to england it will be only for liverpool" 6 months later, he expresses his desire for a move to arsenal, 6 months later, united is the only place for him, 1 week ago, he would love to join the premier league champions man city. Today, joins chelsea.

Anyone else think this guy is a complete and utter tool?

Martinez is being used a media smoke screen.
