Hey Eds, I am hearing all this suarez talk and that he might leave but I am just thinking of likely replacements. I hear about Real Madrid strikers Benzema and Higuain perhaps being included but what about Jovetic? Do you know if we would show interest? Seems more of a fit like Suarez besides from a front man like Benzema. Thank eds, really think Jovetic would be perfect because many others would have very high wages. {Ed019's Note - Jovetic looks Juventus/Arsenal bound unfortunately}

I can't see any top madrid player coming to midtable team! Its almost 8 years that Liverpool are struggling to break in to top4,

Top players go to top teams to win top honours!

Now players just use Liverpool as stepping stone!

Agree0 Disagree0

8 years? really? I believe we were second only around 5 years ago

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought we won the CL 8 years ago and 2 years later lost a final and were rated number 1 in Europe around the same time. strange that we've been struggling for 8 years, I can't wait to get back to them days - if that's struggling bring it on

I am absolutely delighted by the iago Aspas signing! Trust me if we can control this guy he can go to the stars! He is that good. The fans will love him but he needs to control his passion on the pitch as he can be a little crazy!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sound like any other player at Liverpool? He definitely was worth the risk

Jackson Martinez anyone? Saw that perhaps there was interest a while ago, but only IF suarez leaves. Well that might well happen now it seems? Thanks eds :) {Ed019's Note - He has an extremely high asking price}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Suarez for JM. not for me mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Any player in the Portugese league will have a ridiculously high buyout figure.
The board members must sit around a table and just throw stupid numbers at each other until it sounds ridiculous enough to make them all laugh. Then advertise that figure.

It won't be long before we see the first billion euro buyout clause requested.

Hi eds I don't really understand the release clause suarez has. Does it mean an offer of 35 million that Liverpool have to accept just like on football manager or is it more complex than that?

Thanks for the help {Ed019's Note - An offer in excess of £40M would be a starting point for negotiations}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can think of a couple of clubs that'd be more than happy to offer more than that.

Agree0 Disagree0

£45m flat would do it for me. in fact £38m + Jese Rodriguez (going to be HUGE)

Eriksen, Diame, Papadopolous and Begovic (Plus maybe Higuain and Honda if Suarez goes) what are our chances and do you think those additions could get us into the Champions league?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2013 23:15:41
Being realistic, I'd say that were suarez to go, It wouldn't be as massive a blow to us as many are making out.

Yes he's an amazing player and has been very good for us this season, but as shown by the latter performances he's not vital. The team isn't going to capitulate without him.

W'd get a fair amount of money to replace him with a similar player and probably one who is frankly less of a trouble.

I would like to see him stay, for sure. But I wouldn't be devastated if he left.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Personally, I wouldn't miss him at all.
I've already moved on after his last little display.
Cash in, I say. He's a tool.

a person is apparently going to announce another LFC signing tomorrow! I can't help think he speaks poo but It would nice to be true! Any ideas who he might be referring too eds or fans? He said to be excited!

Can't help think that Suarez is being a tad disrespectful to Liverpool. He has a worse agent than Rooney! Don't want him to leave but I think he is tactfully closing the door on his LFC career!

Cheers,

Eds fellow reds, I have a couple of points if that's ok.
1. Luis Suarez should give us one more season to see if we get in champs league, I think he owes it to all us fans who have stood by him well he has dragged our clubs name through the s*** over the last two years.
2. If fsg sell Suarez I think it's time the fans were told exactly what there plans are because its starting to look like awe are feeder club for Europes elite. Rather than getting back up there with the elite. another hicks and Gillett starting to appear.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's a tough one, mate.
A player cannot be forced into staying here.

No player is irreplaceable leave him go if he wants to Go everyone thought Torres was irreplaceable and look what happened. Players can always be replaced out great club does not need the agro that goes with him. He has dragged our name through the mud in numerous occasions and enough is enough let him go I say. Don't get me wrong I love having him at Liverpool but not at s cost to the clubs reputation. Anyway cheer up its not all doom and gloom.

a person has just posted again on twitter ref LFC

I will let you know about another Liverpool signing tomorrow if I get it confirmed. And I am as excited about that one as I am of Aspas

And then

that LFC signing confirms the policy of the club: clever, potentially good signings. Potentially being the key word. But exciting nonetheless

Then finally

enough stuff going on today with Aspas and Luis Suarez to keep going for the rest of the day. And Pellegrini confirming he is off to City.

Looks like there maybe another player from La Liga on there way?

I hope will can finalise this deals.

Did Untited have Suarez last season they did alright.

Did Chelsea did Spurs did Arsenal and they all did just fine.

What i'm saying is sure they had great players and maybe one or two outstanding ones but they weren't Suarez.

So this means that maybe Suarez isn't a singular entity and there are others who can play football who would love to play for us.

I like Suarez but don't cling on to him like a first love maybe because my heart has been broken before I have learnt that after one hero leaves another emerges.

1. is there any truth to the stories about a navas inquiry from Liverpool
2. have we held talks with schalke over papadopolous
3. anything new with the eriksen situation
4. if suarez leaves do you think we will sign a proven top quality striker, if so who could it realistically be, or do you think the team will be built around sturridge as the main striker
Thanks {Ed019's Note - 1. He has been looked at but there has been no enquiry and it would be very unlikely 2. We will 3. No 4. We will buy a striker and a winger if he leaves imo}

The situation with Suarez is no different than it has been for a considerable time, namely if he wants to go, we couldn't stop him.

Rodgers and FSG need to handle the Suarez situation pretty carefully. He has invited the offers in but webhave to show we aren't desperate to aell, even though the majority of the fans have had enough now. being polite, just who the **** does he think he is! All the disgrace he has dragged the club through, degrading a club legend in front of everyone, cozying up at juve over the summer. At the end of the day as good a player as he is, he definitley hasn't been worth the trouble. i'm surprised he thinks Madrid will put an offer in for a liability like him especially as they are trying to rebuild their reputation after Mourinhos outbursts. We can build a top four challenging squad from the proceeds of a suarez sale. Neel

Just because he is only costing us 8m, doesn't mean he's crap! Coutinho only cost a few quid more and has done just fine! Don't make your mind up before you've even seen him in a Red Shirt!

If Suarez leaves we need to replace him with a versatile forward not an out and out striker, he can play anywhere along the front line the replacement needs to do the same can't think of anyone of the top of my head, we'd have a lot of money to spend on a replacement if he did leave tho, the dream for me would be Marco Reus but that won't happen.
The other option would be to by an excellent finisher like Jackson Martinez or Higuain then hopefully sign Eriksen to play behind with Coutinho, all that being said I really hope we can keep Suarez!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Cant Borini play a versatile role across the front line there's one player to get you going before you think Suarez is the only forward who is able to play slightl out of position.

If Suarez wants to move what can we do? As long as we get good money and it is given to BR that's all we can ask.

We are not in the CL or even Europe so won't be able to attract someone as good but we might get lucky.

As LFC fans we need to be realistic in terms of transfers we can expect, free tansfers and £5m to £12m signings.

i can't believe some fans on here moaning about suarez wanting to leave, ffs he has had a bead time from the press and our f. a. he should have won something this year but he never, he is by far the best player in the prem bale only played well for 4 months while suarez was doing his best to keep Liverpool out of relegation by scoring the goals he did before xmas, and most of the goals he created himself, so if he has had enough of the press and the f. a. then just say thanks and we understand, we might not like it but I was wondering how much he could take and now we know he has had enough of the english we will miss him badley if he goea, but I for one wish him all the best and say thank you for lighting up the Liverpool side and prem with his style of play

Looks like 1 step forward with the aspas signing and 2 back with suarez. This is exactly what I feared and posted about last week. We cannot afford to keep changing are team every season! Now that will be suarez, carroll, reina, skrtel, carragher gone with possibility of more! that would be insane and will ensure for me that we will get no were near top 4 again. And even if we do get 80 million for suarez and carroll, that will be another 2/3 signings to gel into the team. Makes this season a complete waste of time. I'm sorry I am ususally optimistic but these are facts. If these players leave we will be nowhere net season. cheers

The FA, we all know what the letters stand for, may have driven one of the best players in the world, away from England and worse still from Liverpool FC!
There is hope that the press do exaggerate stories and lots are lost in translation.
Let's hope Suarez is man enought to withstand and come and win things with Liverpool!
I hope the owners aren't encouraging this to generate money for further transfers.
Really really sick that Liverpool is going to.

with the new reports about suarez has said, it makes me feel he is closer to a move away then ever. what I wanted to ask was if he does leave who would you think would be a good replacement? I have been trying to think but I can think of a player that can bring to Liverpool what suarez has (in terms of creativity as well as goals, freekicks etc) I know some of the eds suggest sanchez as a viable replacement in the past but it looks like he will not be available.

Suarez admits he would find it 'difficult' to turn down Real Madrid as Liverpool face battle to keep star man.

'I've worked hard since childhood to get where I am and I keep getting constant criticism from the English press. It makes me tired. Liverpool want me to stay, but do not know what will happen, ' he said.

He added: 'It would be difficult to say 'no' to Real Madrid. '
Suarez said the Reds had treated him well and he had 'only words of thanks for the fans'.

He added: 'So far I have not received any official offer from Madrid. '

Like I say - never get attached to any player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2013 22:03:21
if and that's IF we lose suarez it will be a huge blow but will also offer brendan an oppurtunity to push for 2 or so really young big talents who are currently performing already. A player like lukaku would be perfect, clinical strong and quick. Whether chelsea would let him go is another story but we could afford to offer a large sum aswell as offer 1st team football. After seeing what BR did with 20m in jan it may be exciting to see what he could do with 40-50m. Asin other fan I am gutted to hear the suarezquotes but no one is bigger than the club and I believe we will get another world beater CF in, as we always doI think the right way to look at a possible suarez sale is optimistically rather than mope about a situation that has been coming for a long time now. Keep the positive attitude, BR and the boys need us next season more than they need any player.

Sent a message in this morning, just making a comment about what Balague said about Suarez and someone with the ridiculous name of samsam9000 or something got on his high horse and told me to spend more time in the real world, well the situation looks a bit more real now doesn't it? Just to clarify I never said that what Balague said was true did I? Whether you think he just knows about the Spanish league or not he doesn't normally say anything unless he's certain about it. This is the kind of story Liverpool fans don't want to hear, but it has happened before and will happen again -it is law of football and a consequence of the stage the club is in, progressing but not at the level where they can expect their best player to ignore interest from other more successful clubs. Liverpool Football Club are resigned to lose Luis Suarez and are preparing life without him. They are aware of the interest from top clubs in Europe and Liverpool feel they have done as much as they can to convince him to stay, and everything is now in the players's court.

He is happy in Liverpool, the club has looked after him and he feels settle for the first time since he left his home in Uruguay. The family atmosphere has helped him grow and he feels the club has done everything that it was required so he could focus in his game. We all have read the interviews, I have heard him say it himself. But.

At this stage of his career, he would like to test himself in the biggest stage, the Champions League. He hoped Liverpool could provide that but it hasn't been the case. He expects the progression of the team will take them to the top four at some point but he has heard there are clubs like Real Madrid, Atltico Madrid, Juventus (he is preferred to Higuain), even Chelsea that have shown interest. No offer on the table yet but there will be more than one put during the summer.

His parents in law live near Barcelona and his wife tends to spend time there. Spain is then their preferred destination.

He has a buy out clause which some sources put at £35 million and others at more than £40m. Liverpool will demand the totality of the buy out clause to release the player. There will be clubs willing to pay that. And then it will be all up to the player.

Notice, I DID NOT SAY HE IS GOING TO GO. I am saying, the club is resigned to his departure if he decides to go. And he is aware there is interest from top clubs and is considering his future. That is the stage the situation is in.

This is taken from Guilem Balague's blog.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Gonna put this out there but just maybe he likes the idea of his wife being in a diff country from time to time. staying with her parents. let's hope this is the case.

hi guys a long time since I have been on here well since jan 30th I sit on this site 24/7 when the transfer windows are open. ok its not a rumor but I feel a good talking point. so suarez is off. now not writen in stone I no. but the lad has shown interest in a move away from anfield and as far as I am concerned with his history lfc have to get shot off him. for him to claim the media is on his case ect. he only has himself to blame. but once again lack off commitment on his part surly forces our hands. major problem in world football may I add is the fact a contract stands for nothing these days. so its got me thinking. am I right in thinking alonso still hasn't signed on that dotted line. well if that's the case a 30m plus alonso surly would work out great for us. but then again would madrid sign bale and suarez after all one off these great talents will end up at madrid. think him leaving for a large sum could be a blessing for us. {Ed019's Note - I'm glad you like the site}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I am not sure Madrid have the resources to sign both due to the need to tighten transfer budgets because of the investigations into their funding and possible financial fairplay compliance. Think they would need Ronaldo to be sold to really be able to fund this double signing. Interested in your thoughts Eds?

I have spoken with my agent and saying no to Real Madrid would be difficult, ” Suarez said in an interview with Spanish radio station COPE’s Latin American correspondent Martin Charquero.
“I am happy with Liverpool, I love the club, I have nothing but praise for the fans, but this year was very difficult for me, my wife and my daughter.
“I have spoken to Brendan Rodgers, and he knows what I want. I have a family, a daughter and I am not prepared to continue this way with the English press. ”
He did, however, deny that he was already in talks with managerless Real, as had been reported in the Spanish press.
"So far I have not received any official offer from Madrid, " he confirmed, although any contact is likely to come after Real appoint a new manager.

Regarding the Toure signing, the negativity around it is completely wrong.
First off, every player that comes to the Kop must be made to feel welcome to become a success. Look at Lucas' start, and the abuse he received did not help him develop. for them too be a success we have to support him from day one, at least give him the chance to succeed.
Also, to all the people that are slating fans on this site for daring to be positive about the signing, by saying how they are now accepting the drop to being a mid table team is again a terrible mentality. We as fans cannot chose who we sign and really have little or no impact on a signing so really the only thing that we can do, as stated in the first point, is be positive and hope to hell that BR and he team sign the right payers and they help with the project to get us climbing the table again back to where we should be!

hey eds, so luis suarez has reportedly said that he may have to leave LFC as the english press get on his back too much and he can't cope! well luis you have to look at why they react that way towards you! us fans and our great club has backed him all the way through things that were all of his own making! and now reportedly he has the cheek to use this as a reason to leave LFC! if what he says is correct then he should be sold asap for the largest amount possible so then we can quickly (not andy carroll quick ha) reinvest before all the realistic targets join other clubs. This cannot be left to drag on all summer.

It looks pretty clear now that Suarez wants to leave for Madrid. I understand he may be fed up with the British press, but whose fault does he think that is? And does he think the Spanish press will be any different when he starts doing stupid things in Spain? He's a terrific player, but he owes Liverpool big time for all the support they've given him! So if he wants to leave then let him go! we really don't need any more grief from him! The club has put up with enough from him already!

With signing Aspas for virtually 8 million.

I'm wondering at this present point with no sales yet made, how much does the manager have now to complete deals for say Eriksen, Grenier, Digne and Papadopulos?

If the 20 million kitty is true we have in the region 12 million to sign a player. This would only cover one of the above, and of its true that the club do want the above players should we assume some are already in place and it's just a case of money changing hands?

Just wanted to hear other people's opinions on this.

If Suarez wants out then let him. Yes for me he was the best striker in the prem and top 5 of the world last season but what is the point in keeping a player that does not want to be there, he will not play well, so if he wants to go then sell him to the highest bidder and hope we can get a replacement to tide us over until we get into the champions league and draw in some real talent.

I guess the end is high Suarez. Has had his moments of brilliance but has also trashed the good name of LFC. No player is bigger than the club we've lost the likes of Keegan, KD, Rush, Owen, Fowler and Torres in each case they have been replaced although some have taken longer to replace than others. I think Susrez going will be a loss but in someways feel bittersweet about the likely exit of this player. This will give other players more freedom to express themselves. Despite no CL or Channel 5 cup games surely we can attract another up and coming striker with the passion for the shirt and a better disciplinary record than Suarez. As good as he is he's a liability and it would be interesting to work out the number of games he has missed over the last few years for all clubs due to disciplinary issues. Be interested in all your thoughts on this likely scenario. I think his signing was a risk but suited both parties but perhaps both parties have evolved and it's in the best interest we move him on. Sorry to reiterate bo player is bigger than LFC!

1st lot in will ONLY be dependent on the sale of Andy Carroll these are; Kolo Toure, Iago Aspas, Christian Eriksen, Kyriakos Papa. etc. leaving the spending at around £23m-£25m (which is the "unofficial" budget BR will be given).

The 2nd lot in WILL be dependent on departures. Most likely GK, CB, LB, LW, RW.

Those expected to be leaving are Reina, Skrtel, Coates, Assaidi and Downing.

Those in likely to be; Diego Alves, Carlos Zambrano, Aly Cissockho, Christian Atsu & Son Heung-Min.

After those transactions in & out, will leave around £3m to spare which will drop the net spending to around £21m

Then the likes of Spearing & Pacheco will 99% leave with Shelvey, Ngoo and Coady sent out on loan. all for around £4.5m. Reducing the net spending to just £16.5m meaning BR will have around £8.5m to play with in January.

The need for a Defensive Midfielder will not be so important as Papadopoulos, Zambrano and Kolo are all capable of playing there. BR will give Coady a year out on loan to prove he can stand in for Lucas if/when needed. BR also likes Yalany Baio who may make a few first team appearances next season, but he won't quite be ready for at least 1 more season (which he will spend with the U21).

End of the day we will likely see 9 in - 7 out (9 if you include Carragher and Wilson)

my god, he is a forward, and am loosing faith on some Liverpool supporters. doesn't score much? he has a great scoring record for celta since they moved him from right wing to "striker" 25 goals last season and 12 this one for celta vigo one of the worst spanish teams! He has loads of assists too and it seems he will single handedly save them from relegation before he comes to us after securing them huge 3 points last game and if they win their last game they will stay up!

His team isn't even relegated and I can see the BS coming from rubbish supporters already, why we buy players from relegated teams! why we not buy Cavani? why FSG do this? why rodgers do that?

you would think all these fans have studied the sport and know more about it than pros! its ridicoulous, get a life mate or watch a game of aspas who will propabaly be ahead of downing, and you will love what you see before you come on here and critisize the whole universe! Its getting really boring.
I swaer to God if we signed messi tomorrow some would still talk s**** about how he is too light weight or his wages are so high or his price tags, I think you are forgetting your roles as fans, to support the team, go to games, buy jerseys extra. not to think you decide who buys players! the comitee made Brendan Rodgers buy Iago Aspas instead of Scott Sinclair and Kolo Toure instead on Williams, great JOB!

Agree0 Disagree0

60 goals in 130 Games is pretty good 1 goal every 2. 1 games

60 in 120 is a goal every two games on average in a team which battles relegation every year. I'd make that a very good record.

You have to remember he is in a poor team and Cristiano Ronaldo (62) and Lionel Messi (45) have both created fewer chances this season than Iago Aspas (65). Why are so many down on the Toure deal?!

A very, very good stop gap while the likes of Kelly, Wisdom, possibly even Coady (slight position change) etc come of age?! I think so.

And since when has 32 for a centre half been past their sell by date especially watching Carragher this last six months.

The majority of the squad are young so some experience is essential especially with Carra bowing out.

Two names off the top of my head that were ageing but class signings at their given time are Speedie and Mcallister. Both turned heads initially for the wrong reasons (age) then the right ones (class performances).

We're not in a position to sign the likes of Pique so for me this is a very savvy signing

Well done Rodgers and team :)

Hai ed great work.

Iago Aspas, signing confirmed. Looks a decent player. good pace. and pretty good finishing. 8 mill is a fine price.
since he is a left footed, this should end downing nightmare at Liverpool.

was watching some of his goals and assists. I can't believe we payed 36 mill for caroll who cannot score a single goal shown in that video.

I wish. yes I wish. we had 35 mill in our bank. {Ed019's Note - Thanks for watching the video}

Eds,
With the more than likely signing of Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo, does this pave the way for a 50m or more bid to take Suarez away from Liverpool? If so who are the possible replacements, Christian Eriksen, Clement Grenier or Isco from Malaga? Thanks in advance,

Iwan {Ed019's Note - Aspas should not effect the Suarez situation}

Eds, why is it that Barcalona always seem to get players for cheaper than they are valued at? They got Sanchez for about 23 million when it was being quoted that he was worth 35, they got Alba for about 10 million after he'd just had a fantastic Euro's and now it seems they're getting Neymar for about 25 million when he was valued at about 50 mill? It doesn't seem fair to me that they always get players for cheaper than they're valued at.
Cheers {Ed019's Note - Neymar will cost an excess of £50 due to fees being payed out to other 3rd party companies}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It was only 25m to Santos, It's being quoted between 50m to 78m overall including 2nd and third parties. Sanchez was around 35m euros. Alba was a bargain but Valencia had to raise money somehow

Agree0 Disagree0

80 million euros mate, how is that cheap? on what planet am I on? Santos are getting over 50 million euros and neymar is getting 30 million euros in wages for 5 years! I wish I was a footballer, when I was 15 I playeed in Norways U21 national team, I ruined my knee in the 2nd division and never recovered in a right way. So neymar can enjoy his 30-40 million euros!

Iago Aspas deal agreed in region of 7-10m euros, 7 if they Celta Vigo go down. left footed ST that has scored 12 goals in 33 games so far. Tthat means we now have Suarez, Sturridge, Borini and Aspas. Is 4 good or too many? Could someone else be on the way out? Say Assaidi, Downing, or even Suarez or Borini?

Thoughts Ed (s)?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm sure it will be just three strikers come September.

Borini - Sturridge - Aspas

Agree0 Disagree0

Good job as looks like stirridge is nackered looks serious

This is my view on what will happen in the summer:

Out:

Carroll- £10 million
Spearing- £2 million
Assaidi- £5 million
Reina- £8 million
Coates- £6 million

Total: Around £30 million

Ins:
Aspas- £6 million
Begovic- £8 million
Papadopoulos- £15 million
Atsu- £10 million
Toure- Free

Total: Around £40 million

Not a bad summer, with little spend. Realistic prices too.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Atsu 10 million? wow!

Agree0 Disagree0

Spanish newspaper reporting that we've signed Iago Aspas for 8 million. Only a report but he seems like a decent player that we can use as cover for Suarez. What do you think Edds? {Ed052's Note - A decent player, who is versatile, fits our system, cheap, low wages, scores goals, young, and a good sell on fee. Lets hope he starts well}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Haven't seen this guy at all. but I don't know about this one. 8 mil is steep for a player in a relegated team in a mediocre league

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldnt call 7 million cheap, never heard of him before today. not sure about this at all tbh ed sounds like another borini why not just sign proven quality sigh

Anyways hope he does well but his stats aren't that much better than downings, albeit in a far worse team {Ed052's Note - proven quality is expensive. SO your saying we should never have signed Coutinho, or Sturridge, or Suarez. A bug transfer fee, lots of international caps and high wages doesn't equate to success.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Give it to him Ed, it's amazing how some fans start criticizing players without even seeing how they go. I like him he's quick, direct and gives it all he's got. Michu was signed for 2 million last season from a lower spanish club and went on to hit 18 goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed you can't add Suarez to that list he was a very good player for Ajax and everyone could see he was going to be world class well before the World Cup {Ed019's Note - He played in the Eredivisie - not the best league}

Agree0 Disagree0

Not exactly a prolific goalscorer for 25 though, averages about 6 goals a season. Not had a bad season but still 12 in 33 for a forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez was already class ed prior to moving

Agree0 Disagree0

Aspas is a good ball playing forward. but he has a temper

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez was proven and 22.8m is expensive. Scoring nearly 50 even in the eredivisie is amazing. Plus he helped Uruguay to the world cup semi's. That's proven quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

7 million euros is really cheap, about £5m, cheaper than players like Adam or Downing etc

Agree0 Disagree0

Eds if as a lot of people are expecting and Reina does sign for Barcelona what will Ter Stegans destination then be?

I'm aware you have stated that you expect Ter Stegan to move to Barca (if not this season in a few seasons time), but if he won't move to sit on the bench and at present Barca think he's too young, surely we could be a club who would be able to lure him with first team football.

The other top teams across Europe already have a quality keeper in place, so why couldn't we lure him to Anfield?
I know you've answer similar questions before but not quite this question from what I can find.

The club are expected to make further announcements this summer with regards expanding Anfield and Henry explained that "renovations at Anfield will finance themselves".

Erm. Has this always been the case? Thought when FSG took over LFC THEY were going to build a new or expand Anfield?

If FSG are not going to pump ANY of their cash into LFC for players to push for CL each season as a minimum, how would LFC generate enough millions to take Anfield to a top stadium?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Maybe they were referring to naming rights or a potential new investor. Henry did mention that they just started dipping into the pool of investors which to me hinted that they are working on more potential deals. Imagine selling the naming rights of training shirts, academy naming rights, plenty of places for investment.

intitiwetrust {Ed052's Note - Yes. I think in couthino sturridge suarez gerrard we have plenty of goals and if we can add one or two goalscoring midfielders for say another 25M spending total of 50M iam sure we could recouperate most if not all of that in outgoings carroll 15M skrtle 10M PACHECO 1m SPEARING 3m SHELVEY 3m DOWNING 8m plus at least another 10M from kids who are just not going to get a chance (man utd paid 30M for rio ferdinand and never looked back defensively)

last season all questions were answered we do not need too many players, we will not be in europe. skrtl/cuates do not fit into the system. carra retiring. assaidi never had a look in the team. 2 cb needed toure arrived so 1 more. and a winger/attacker needed better than we already have. the only reason we are talking about carroll is money we did not have him last season. I would not sell downing although a winger needs to score at least 10 goals a season. if we can sell for skrtl, cuates, assaidi, spearing, carroll, shelvey (i like him but I think he won't make on mentality he looses it) total 40mil. buy 1 cb and 1 left back so don't use johnson there for cover, 1 midfielder. with 40 mil we should be able to land this greek defender/digne and eriksen (both very talented players. we would do some good business. with the budget we buy a right winger attacker. add these for 4 to the squad we already have I see no reason for us to fear anyone in the league. money is not the real problem we have we have to many players on the books that are just not good enough. if we do this we be in the top 4 next season and kick on from there. if we had a cb as good as chielini/vidic/silva this season we would have had 10-15 points more. we need a worldclass 1 on 1 defender next too agger. we are on the way up. from sunny malta

I'd be happy if we signed players like-
Begovic 10/15 million
Pepe 15 million
Atsu 3/5 million
Aspas (as back up) no more than 5 million!
With the signing of toure in the bag, this will prove that not only will Liverpool have experience in defence, but they also have a young defence (Kelly, wisdom) etc.
However to get these targets, we
'D need to sell players like-
Reina 10 mill
Coates 3/4 mill
Skrtel 10 mill (however I like skrtel, he's like a rock)
Downing 7 mill
Carroll 15/16 mill!
If all these players were sold, then I'd like it if Liverpool made a sneaky attempt to lure the mighty alonso back to a field! May not be realistic, but I'd like all this to happen! Thoughts and opinions wold be much appreciated, thanks:)

Another question for you which I'd be eternally grateful if you answered. With the Mirror claiming that Jesus Navas is available due to his clubs financial issues, have we shown any interest, is it likely we might? With BR preferring to play Downing on the right, we could do with a pacey natural left winger.

Right let's get down to business what do we need this summer to crack that top four.

1) We need an experience defender to fill that Carragher shaped hole at the back: The answer it seems is Kolo Toure. DONE DEAL.

2) Skrtel hasn't cut it this season, so he'll probably be off. We need a top notch centre half anyway. The solution = Papadopoulos.

3) Suarez will miss the first chunk of next season, so we need more firepower up top, plus Carroll's off to West Ham (probably). It seems Iago Aspas is set to sign.

4) We lack genuine width at times, and Assaidi looks set for an early departure after failing to provide that. Rumours are rife that Christian Atsu of Porto is a genuine target.

5) Our midfield is pretty strong, but could do with a bit more depth and quality. Shelvey and Spearing don't seem to be part of Rodgers' plans. Perhaps one of Eriksen (unlikely), Strootman (probably not) or Grenier from Lyon could provide that.

The other signings will depend on departures:

6) Downing could be off, yes he's improved but is he really good enough? At his age perhaps now is the time to cut our losses and sign a more direct winger. Tello and Navas, as unlikely as these signings would seem, would be perfect.

7) Coates hasn't really cut it has he? He seems certain to be heading for the exit door this summer and it's rumoured that Tiagi Ilori of Sporting Lisbon could be next in through that revolving door.

8) I hope Reina stays, but the lure of Barcelona might be too tempting for the Spanish international. If he does go then it's important that we replace him with a top goalkeeper. Rumours of Begovic are still lingering, and whispers of Vorm, Mingolet and Ochoa (amongst others) are rife.

9) Finally there is talk of another left back coming in. I think Enrique is a good enough option in that position, but I wouldn't be opposed to the idea of some competition for the former Newcastle player coming in - Lucas Digne has been strongly linked. Not a priority position though.

Overall I can't see us signing NINE players this summer, but rest assured it is set to be a busy and intriguing summer for Liverpool fans.

I keep reading that Suarez is worth £40M, yet Bale is worth £65M, Jovetic £30M, Cavani £52M etc etc, How on earth can Suarez only be worth £40M when he is one of very few players that score regularly for Club & Country, makes something special happen from nothing, creates his own goals and is probably the 3rd best player in the world behind Messi & Ronaldo, If Suarez goes which I hope he doesn't then it should be for nothing less than £50M Cash, although i'd tell interested parties that he will cost £60M. {Ed002's Note - You cannot equate the values of players - it is a hopeless waste of timer. On that basis if Suarez were "twice as good" as Coutinho he is worth £22M.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's only worst what someone is willing to pay. And with his excessive baggage what people are willing to pay drops & drops

Agree0 Disagree0

You can use it as an excuse to ask for a price. Liverpool will look for 50-60m and if Madrid want him bad enough they will negotiate probably including a player or two like they normally do.

What would you prefer?

A) That the club is taken over by Arab or Russian Billionaires, we buy some of the worlds best players such as Bale, Cavani, Mata, Aguero, etc for £50m+ each and win the title next year?

Or.

B) That the club continue to steadily build a winning team over the next few years, investing wisely in promising young players, and working hard as a unit in order to become genuine Title contenders within 3-5 years.

Winning the league and competing in the Champions league is the dream, but to acheive that in the manner Manchester City and Chelsea have done is not as great an acheivement as working hard and EARNING your place within Europes elites.

As much as every Liverpool fan is desperate for us to compete, is this what we want our GREAT club to be associated with?

The Gunners who are generaly considered to be a very good technical side, and comftable in possesion appear to be willing to pay 12m for Skertle.
So why exactly are we letting him go?
And as were on the subject who noticed that Carra came back into the side just at the same time Lucas was getting over the injuries and back to fitness. Would the deffence have looked better with a real holding mid infront of them at the beginning of the season?
I'm not sure we are going to get a better deffender than what we have without spending very big.

dear eds. my first time posting. I have a big worry and that worry is if suarez was to leave this summer and gerrad about 2 years max away from retiring if we didn't sign any class prospects in this summer window. who would want to sign for us in the near future I accept we aren't far off being a mid table club I mean another year without europe its getting quite sad I know we have players like couthino and sturridge for the near future but what is stopping them from in 2 years time saying this club isn't competing at the level I want to compete. surely that would spell disaster for lfc I think that the next time we will be a top four club is in 5 years time when maybe carra or gerrad are handed the reigns no offence to rodgers he's not a bad manager but what was once the biggest club in england and a machine in europe is now a former shadow of itself. what do you see for lfcs future and do u see us getting into europe in the next 3-5 years. thanks bornred1986 ynwa

Hello eds, what's really starting to annoy me is the number of Liverpool fans that think that torres will return this summer, its all I seem to read. So I was wandering if you could explain to guys and girls why he won't come back. If I remember rightly it will never happen even if the two teams agreed a fee as too much was said when he left the club, too many bridges to build.

just a thought,

owen, torres and now suarez. if the Gossipe is to be belived . Now I do realy know how much u can trust english whether and media. And suarly br won allow suarez to go, at least at this state. I had a thought like,

for the above mentioned guys does it comes in mind that they aren't playing with their class. I mean why would a player like suarez won't like sharing the dressing room with ronaldo and kaka etc or messi etc. Here at anfield except gerrard, there is no player of suarezs class, I think this factor does gets into head.

Liverpool have failed to create or buy a group of such players in same time. Like suarez is alone. So was torres. The point is a player like suarez, torres wants to be with players like him.

Thats why u need to buy guys like villa, shinygder (spell?). though they won't give you too much I mean just 2-3 yr with no resell value. But a club like Liverpool must have a star power and atractiveness. They also add some experiance. We need a mixture.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Give Coutinho a year and he would join Luis' class

Puzzled

Agree0 Disagree0

So you're saying we should buy players just for their 'big name' for a big fee, knowing they only have a couple of years left in them with no resale value, just to keep a star player happy, when you have no empirical evidence that Suarez is unhappy and is asking for big name signings to keep him at Anfield?

There are so many discrepancies in this post it makes my head hurt.

It isn't about buying a 'big name' to keep others happy. It's about buying the players that are right for the TEAM. If one player doesn't like it then they can jog on, regardless of who they are. Nobody was frothing at the mouth when Coutinho joined and but lit the Premier League alight in the second half of the season.

@JF 96.

Well thankx 4 taking interest in my point. But if u just read the last line, I said mixture. I don't want a 50miln blue toress or shevchenko. i'm saying abt stra signings like villa or snigder. Perfect example of it could be. Spurs signing vand der vart. That type of signings who can perform and also give that star aura to the team.

In no way i'm saying that we should though money. But then if we can spend 100miln for guys like caroll, adams, downing, what's wrong with signing atleast one big name even if we don't get much resell value. It would certenly not that bad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well again as u said again and again the line to make a player happy,

im talking abt players like suarez etc. It is easyer said and done that no player is greter than club. But everyone knows at what stage we are. The team is built around such players. So yes club needs to keep them happy. For better of both.

And also the point is more abt the club then the individual.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hypothetically speaking, IF Suarez does think that way I would gladly see him leave. But that is not the case here and that is not the type of guy he is.

KrishnaYNWA

Agree0 Disagree0

Krishna yaar, its not abt suarez. Its more abt Liverpool. Owen thought same, torres did. And no wonder if suarez does.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Suarez doesn't go this year he'll go next. He'll miss a stack of games next season and a whole heap more if he oes one thing daft (highly likely based on the evidence of his career to date). His value is what a team are prepared to pay but I would doubt it will be more than 35-40m. It's a risk selling and a risk keeping. On balance i'd get shut.

Not about Liverpool but something regarding the smart if not devious business that City have taken part in.
This New York team they are setting up may just seem like a drive to tap into a relatively young market that could be worth massive amounts, but it is so much more than that and has a direct connection to financial fair play.
Just as renaming the stadium was a rouse to get round financial fairplay previously so is the New York franchise. Man Citu could now transfer, for free, their highest earners to New York, for example Kompany, Aguero, why Toure. Their combined wages would be around £700,000. By transferring these over they have now freed up that amount in fair play rules to pay new stars. They then loan the three players back to City from New York but the loan contract states that New York are paying their wages. This would mean the wages go down on New Yorks books, not Citys! Essentially they can have an even better squad because of their American franchise.

Eds, I believe you would agree a very scheming way of reducing the wage bill without truly losing players? And the financial fair play rules do not currently outlaw the above. A loophole that only the wealthiest of clubs can afford!

Anfield Andy {Ed002's Note - This is rubbish - you don't understand the MLS transfer or wage system at all.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

MLS has a very strict wage cap with each team having only 3 players eligible to go above the wage cap. If city tried that it would take all 3 places and FCNY would have no marquee players and would lose money as a franchise. It won't happen. that's not even to mention that MLS as a league controls all transfers (not the individual teams) and would never allow this. Nice try though. {Ed002's Note - It is not even as simple as that.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont we have a dodgy rumours page?

In all honesty I don't understand why we need eriksen.

We have Coutinho and Henderson.
Then Suso and teixeira. We really need cover/competition for lucas. I would be more happy if we signed Manuel Iturra on a free and promote conor coady instead of spending £15 million on eriksen! That would at least show me we are trying to adress our problems now, not making signings for the sake of it. I like the Kolo Toure signing because I have watched him 5-6 league games and in the african cup of nations and he is far from over it, he is still a leader and a beast! We needed to replace carra/skrtel (kelly and wisdom replace coates) and now we need 1 good younger CB, zambrano, botia, someone in that mould!

People are already having a go at Toure saying he is past his best or too old.
But if Toure was 20 we would not be interested in him. We are buying his experience and organisation skills. Skrtl was faster, and better in the air than Carragher but Jamie got the nod because he is a better defender. Toure will be a good signing hopefully like McCallister was.

Carragher replaced Skirtle mid way through the season to ensure an experienced player could control our back line. It worked very well indeed, allowing us to tighten up our defence.

I hope that Kolo Toure can do the same thing for the next 3 years.

I think Liverpool signed Kolo Toure so we could spend big on another CB. The other CB will be Papa from Schalke. We are offering 12 million and they want closer to 16m. A deal will be done for around 13m in my opinion.

On an other note go look at Kolo Toure videos from last season. You know those ones that show every touch he has. He was top drawer! I didn't want him but I think he could be a big player for us after looking at those videos. He is very good technically too.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2013 15:19:34
Valencia HAVE GOT TO sell him as they simply cannot run, so 18 million euros is very plausible. He isn't even that good anyway, decent shooting but mediocre play. Hi eds,
all these names being reeled of on here, let's be honest are a lot to ask for. We know we don't have the financial backing unless we sell players. I believe if the right offer comes in for saurez we should not hesitate in accepting the offer, with the money we generate from that plus other departures such as skrtel, coates and downing we can get a goalscoring striker e. g. papa cisse, berbatov? I would still like to see carroll come back into the squad and try and prove his worth, with sturridge and couthino around him I think we can play 2 ways direct straight in to him and also on the floor with sturridge and couthino. What are your thoughts eds? {Ed052's Note - keeping Carroll would be a wasteof time, money and points}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Eds Why are LFC not moving in on Erikson of Ajax?
Overmars has confirmed BD have not bid. It seems Ajax will sell and this players who a season or so ago was worth around £20-£25mil looks like he could be bought for around £12-15mil.
Erikson has never said he wouldn't move to LFC and surely Agger could sell the club to him.
I see Monaco and Barca securing their targets. Cannot understand how Erikson is not a top top target for BR? Aged, style, everything matches what LFC/FSG/BR are looking for?

Why no official move?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree he is a great player, but does he not play the same position as Coutinto?

Agree0 Disagree0

Would we not be better going for a wide player like Tello or Mertens ahead of Eriksen so that Coutinho can play in that free central role, of which he is far better than Eriksen at. So the logic and money might be best aimed at get a good wide player that's got pace, adds assists and adds goals.

also I believe reina, skrtel, coates, shelvey, assaidi, carroll and spearing will go however do you think downing is likely to depart as I believe he has really improved this season and would be a useful player to keep in the squad?
Also how likely is sow, atsu, capel or aspas as I believe one of these would be a helpful backup player especially with suarez being banned. however if I had the choice I would take a good look at kone of wigan as he is a real handful, has there been any possible interest there?
think this will be a very busy summer for all clubs and I would appreciate the feedback thanks
deanokop77 {Ed052's Note - nothing new on CMs. Atsu and Asaps are options, but I dont see us going for them at present.}

latest I've heard is Popodopolous will be playing in Germany next season most probably with Bayern, Reina will go, and we will possibly lose the race to sign Begovic to arsenal (European football) Vorn will be brendans obvious next choice! Williams will NOT sign for us (thank god) so Rodgers will go back in the hunt for Douglas (FC Twente) and we've also heard he will get Skrtel to stay. expect Shelvey, Spearing, Assaidi, Carrol and Kelly all to go, and downing for the right price

Personally don't see Kelly going, lots of versatility, potential not to mention the new contract not long ago. I also reckon Skrtel will go

According to a lot of people, our new method of business is

1) Praise a player
2) Sign him on a new contract
3) Sell him within 6 months of that signing

br wants to other type of players. skrtl/cuates/assaidi/caroll need to be replaced in his vision. they don't have the quality for his type of game. enrique/hendersen/shelvey/downing will be squad players. br will need a few more windows to achieve this, I believe deep down he does not rate enrique and downing. hendersen on the other hand is good to keep he can play in different positions. its no surprise to me that he would be interested in eriksen he is a class player that can play on 3 positions in midf and will be gerrard succesor. we got toure as a back up, now we need another cb 1 mid a winger and striker and if there is money a left back to compete with enrique. we will have 7 defenders, 7 midfielders and 7 wingers/attackers. should be enough knowing we are not in europe.

29 May 2013 11:02:01
If we sit back and willingly accept mediocre players and players past their sell by dates then we'll end up in midtable mediocrity.

Other posters slating me for my views seem to willingly go along with being a club without ambition and to slip into obscurity.

I as a fan who questions the ambitions of the club, the professionalism of the players and the ability of the managers does not make me a 'person'!

Fact is, the transfer window is unlikely to be as great as people think and next season is already being lined up as another one in transition - the excuses have started already.

Have to be realistic folks - at the moment we can't compete.

Ask yourself, how long ago did we last compete!?
Were we really that good last season?
How many teams in the top 10 did we beat?
Where did we finish?
Did we win any cups?

Not good enough!

M

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes you are right. so why don't we go protest at anfield and demand an explanation from ayre and brendan?

Agree0 Disagree0

M, face it. You wouldn't be happy unless BR had come in, spent £500m, won everything and didn't conceed a goal all season. You don't question anything, you moan. You don't know, you assume and treat you assumptions like facts. Just for an example - Toure past his sale by date. Since when were CB's washed up at 32? Rio Ferdinand is 35 and was (quite rightly i'm afraid to say) in the TOTY this season! You obviously haven't watched any of the games he's played this year, you know nothing about his current ability but there is juuuust about enough momentum of criticism for you to jump on and use it.

You aren't a fan, you're a glory hunter who wants it all and wants it yesterday. You aren't realistic, you're negative and they aren't the same thing however grandly you like to proclaim they are. And the only people making excuses for NEXT season before they even start are people like you to try and emphasis your utter non-point.

You are a master of self-flagellation and you'd rather decide there is no chance of anything good and ride that blame train then actually allow yourself to admit that we have the ability to form some reasonable chance of success. You'd rather criticise people who choose to enjoy the sport and club they love, then remember why you love and support them in the first place. And you'd rather start angry at the failure that has not yet happened than be disappointed if it materialises.

Maybe when we were top of the world in every way, your type of support could be tolerated. But modern Liverpool are not City or Chelsea, and we have no time for you anymore. We get it, you don't like anything about Liverpool FC. Unless you have something new to say not the same old tired, regurgitated rubbish then pipe down.

How long ago did we last compete? 4 years ago. Much more recently than Arsenal, Spurs, Everton and everyone in football league except for City, United and Chelsea.

Were we really that good last season? Yes, but not consistently enough

How many teams in the top 10 did we beat? 3. How many teams in the top 10 had a positive balance against us over 2 legs? 3. Which puts us right in the middle, and we believe we will tip that balance the right way.

Where did we finish? 7th. Did we win any cups? No. Is this good enough? No. Do we understand why? Yes. Are we working on the 'why'? Yes. Is there a realistic reason to hope that they 'why' will not exist come the start of next season? Yes. Do we have it within us already to do better? Yes.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

"Pretty much" "100%" - that's brilliant.

You're approximately spot on.

Agree0 Disagree0

What if the higher management at LFC suddenly perform a U-turn and decide that Reina is actually the best realistic keeper that LFC can have at the moment?

What if our number one target (Asmir Begovic) desides to stay at Stoke at last minute?

What if Barcelona decide to buy someone else instead of Reina meaning that he will have to stay at LFC?

That is why its 'pretty much' 100% confirmed.

I have been looking at our squad depth again and think BR could be on to something you know with going down this Toure route I think I've been looking at this all wrong, how would you guys feel about a couple of cheeky bids for Ferreira, (wealth of experience, Portugal International, can play both RB/LB, is an EPL winner, F. A. cup winner, ECL winner). And how about Malouda, (wealth of experience, France International, can play both flanks or CM, is an EPL winner, F. A. cup winner, ECL winner). Both would take a wage cut I'm sure, modest signing on fees, sounds like a win win to me.

Come on BR let's get this business done nice and early SIGN these boys up and show the rest of the League we mean business.

Waro

Kolo is a lion! He made a mistake going to city, before that he was awesome.

"Kolo is a lion!" LOL, he wasn't that good in his prime. A week ago Liverpool fans passed it off as paper talk and were not happy if the story was true. Now he is a lion, a true leader, awesome, great signing, one of the invincibles. Sol Campbell was one of the invincibles why not sign him? LOL.

Papadopoulos is pretty decent on Football Manager but I've never seen him play in real life. Not even in the champions league. As long as he can speak english, read the game, tackle and pass, that's all is required. Obviously there's more to it than just that but that is the core of it. In Rodgers I trust

Believable0 Unbelievable1

29 May 2013 09:38:50
Apart from the experience and ability of Kolo Toure. The ability he has to play at Defensive Midfielder is an even greater asset. He's played in that position for Arsenal before being moved to centre back.
We won't have to buy cover for lucas now and can focus on completing our attacking options. Also BR won't have to keep pushing henderson and allen back to cover for Lucas when both are more useful higher up the pitch and do not possess the ball winning grit required in that position.
If Lucas needs substituting all BR got to do now is bring on the young CB (soon to be purchased) and move Toure into Defensive Midfield. ROCK SOLID!

I don't post on her very often but I just wanted to express my disappointment in the attitude of some of our so called fans.

Last summer Brendan was abused for investing in youth too heavily and people were crying out for experience. Now we sign a 32 year old International and BPL winning CB who boasts a wealth of experience and the organisational skills similar to Carragher (which contributed to our improved performance at the back end of the season) and people are moaning that he is past it and therefore a poor signing. Even if Kolo doesn't get game time he can offer our young defence experience, knowledge, support and hopefully the will to win. He might also be used as a representative in his homeland, which could increase shirt sales and the potential for signings from within the African Nations, which is a market we don't currently exploit.

Please support our team and manager. We can only be great again if we pull together. I have been going to Anfield since the end of the Rafa era and have to say that the football has improved no end this season from the dross served up by Hodgson to the disappointment of the millions wasted by King Kenny, and although Rodgers has made mistakes I feel he has learnt from them and provided us with a good footing for next season.

Once again please support our team. If you want the millions of the Chelsea's and City's of this world I'm afraid you need to take a long hard look at yourself and find a new club to support, as FSG and Rodgers are doing their best with what they have, which also seems to be the opinion of the EDs who let's face it clearly know more than us else we wouldn't be checking these pages every day.

Well balague saying Suarez wants to leave eh? First bit of really believable info I've read as this guy rarely talks rubbish and is not a sensationalist journalist. I've always thought that if we can get good fee then we should take it, we are not the sort of club who traditionally courts such controversial players are we? Look at what Sturridge does without him in the side, he CAN be replaced with someone better, ok maybe not better but different and just as effective. Liverpool will go on without him if he quits and if this is true it may be a blessing in disguise and WON'T be the end of the world as some people would have you believe.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Balague rarely talks rubbish and isn't a sensational journalist? You need to get out there a bit more mate. I know Ayre is incompetent but that is lunacy. We bought him close to 30 million euros.
Any I genuinely don't believe it to be true. I have only once heard about a clause in Suarez's contract and that was close to 40 million Euros and all it did was allow Luis to talk to interested clubs not the final fee. {Ed052's Note - we have told you what we know and know to be true about Suarez. 40m euro lets him speak. Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2013 05:47:14
I wasn't for toure but depending on the circumstances Rodgers convinced him to sign for us I think it may well be a great addition. as long as he's not on huge wages we have a guy with experience who in my opinion will want to start every week but knows he will need to perform well to do so. Carragher and the 4/5 others that are leaving. skrtel, assaidi reina etc will clear room for wages so a free transfer and hopefully not a great signing on fee makes sense for what we need. a young up and coming centre half will no doubt be brought in to add to our growing group of talented youngsters who I believe will again step it up to another level from last season. add 2 or 3 young but experienced players to the squad and it'll be a great summer for us. no European football will benefit us greatly as well.

Hope some see sense in my post and I look forward to the next 2 seasons where we will grow into a top 4 or title challenging team.

Sparky now in Sydney!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

People are only knocking toure because of his price tag, fans see the free bit and think its a sign of things to come. Personally I think toure agger is a better partnership than agger skertle. Proven player with bags of exp. I'm looking forward to the future even if we don't spend the millions.

Mike, soon to be in Sydney

Agree0 Disagree0

You are having a laugh if you think Toure will not be on huge wages - I reckon he will be one of the top earners at LFC. When I watched him last year for City he was not very good - bad buy!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah bad buy based on last year give the guy a full preseason playing most friendlies get his sharpness back anyone who plays football knows confidence and match fitness is the difference for anyone

Agree0 Disagree0

Toure signing could work out well, he'll not rock the boat if subbed when were in a comfortable winning position to bring on Kelly or Wisdom who will benefit greatly from getting on the pitch in such circumstances.
And if Kelly or Wisdom manage to keep him out the side? Well then, we'll really be pleased.
Kelly and Wisdom are fantastic prospects for CB and Kolo will be a big help for them to grow into the position.
So I can only think it's a no brainer signing given the development potential of Kelly and Wisdom.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good point kidmillions. IF BR believes in the young defensive talent at the club can develop over the next few seasons, then a 32 year old Premiership experienced centre half is a perfect fit for now.

God. remember the day's when fans were just happy the club signed a new player.

Because football has changed, and these things matter. It's no surprise since the Sky money came in that fans want to be aware of their club's financial situation. It's a different game to 1988 now. Why shouldn't fans be interested how much we pay our players? For example, the wages given to people like Maxi Rodriguez, Joe Cole and Aquilani were putting our club in financial trouble. So why wouldn't fans want to know?

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2013 07:58:27
Its just people who want something to moan about! Signing Toure just saved us 12 million on williams! And williams would get the same wages and signing on fee!

Also williams is not half as good and everytime city played with toure they looked so solid at the back, defenders are like wine, the older the better, vast experience, strenght, pace, great tackler and works his socks off! Good signing and once he has played 15-20 games he will prove to be a great signing!

Now I wouldn't mind if Liverpool signed Douglas from twente on a free, and blind daley from ajax on a free. all our defensive problems solved! Daley plays LB, RB, CB, DM has great techniche

Agree0 Disagree0

Kolo will have received a signing-on fee too, but the point is Kolo is probably costing less than Carragher was costing. Question remains, is this an improvement on Carragher and is this signing blocking youth?

Disney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Whether this is blocking youth is irrelevant, Toure is the only leader in the back line we now have.

Re: Kolo Toure signing
Toure is an excellent defender who may not be the fastest but he can read a good game and organise a defence, he is decent in the air and has won the league with every club that he has played for. Our record with Bosman signings over the last decade has not been the best and I can only remember two players actually improving our squad Babbel & McAllister not only did both of these score in the 2001 UEFA cup final but both helped our future legends Carragher & Gerrard by training with them during their formative footballing years. I believe that in 10-15 years time we will be saying that either Lloyd Jones or Stephen Sama learned a lot from Kolo in similar circumstances and how he was a good signing overall. He hasn't even signed yet but some fans are unhappy with signing this is exactly how many of us felt with Gary McAllister but look how that turned out and Kolo is a lot younger than Gary was when he signed, the future is definitely red. I am going to apologise to all none Liverpool fans as the future has already begun.

Hello eds and fans, just a quick speculation on our goalkeeper situation I don't really feel there is at the present time anyone better than Reina. I would just stick to Reina and call it a day for looking for a substitute, but I would certainly look for an understudy. As for Toure welcome to the Liverpool family and hope he will be a good addition, after all he has lots of experience, so can't be all that bad.
Now let us brace ourselves in hope of more quality additions. We certainly have to give it a proper good try this season for fourth.

Which goalkeeper would you Eds and LFC supporters like to see replace Reina should he leave? My choice would be Begovic.

Recently Liverpool have done well with signing players who have a point to prove. Just seen a name who was big stuff a few years ago but has slipped under the radar. What about Ganso from Brazil for an AM role. I doubt he would be too expensive neither!

Ed what is the situation with Ganso by the way? I know he moved to São Paulo but is there any European interest?

Thanks. {Ed002's Note - Not from Liverpool.}

Great point you make mate, about LFC signing players, talented ones, who have lost their way a bit, being bought in and given a chance so as to re-kindle their career. Bit like LFC really!

What a signing Toure is, he is exactly the type a player we need in our squad. he's a winner, experienced and will never give up. ideal pro who will help our young defenders develop and improve their games. few more signings of his quality will improve the team leaps and bounds

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Should we buy Overmars and Kanu too?

Agree0 Disagree0

Obviously not but the squad is quite young and lacking in senior players, our young players have bags of potential but need experienced players around them. just like what giggs, scholes and ferdinand have been doing with united for the last few years

Raheem Sterling, Suso, Martin Kelly and Andre Wisdom will be massive for us next season.
If they all step up to the plate we'll be laughing.
With Coutinho, Suarez, Gerrard, Agger, Lucas, Joe Allen and Henderson we'll have a competent squad.
Personally, I'd love us to buy Strootman, Papadopolous, Phillips, Begovic and Tello.
Realistically, we'll buy lesser quality.
I hope we don't go for some of the cheap crap knocking about right now. Kolo Toure?

quiet a mixed response to the signing off kolo toure, personally I think it is an excellent signing, he has experience is a natural leader is competent with the ball at his feet and is as strong as anything a good replacement for carra I think obviously we will be signing another cb but an excellent start to the transfer window!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Have to say I completely agree. its nice to see somebody with optimism who actually she's its a win win signing (assuming it works out cheaper than buying him would have been

So Felipe Santana has gone to Schalke from Dortmund. This must certainly mean Schalke are preparing for a defender to leave! It has to be Papadopoulos because Matip and Howedes are still first choice.

Oh my goodness, I'm so ecstatic that our messiah King
David B has signed a player who will gives utmost to the club and not simply becoming here to collect his money.

He is going to change our season and take us into Europe.

You see that's the quality of player we need- world beaters like Kolo Toure. and my oh my, he had a cracking season didn't he!

I wonder who else we'll sign. tell you what, how about getting Sol Campbell to partner him!

This is going to be a long disappointing transfer window.

I question what players we are hoping to sign and actually do. !

M

Believable0 Unbelievable1

This site has definately been infiltrated by people wanting to cause lfc fans duatrwss and M is another one, he talks like some ex posters who went under other names that stopped posting not long ago,

Anyways, Br has got more points in his 1st season as LFC manager than rafa kenny dalglish (both times), hodgson and gerard houlier

We had title contending goals scored and we just drew too many we only lost a couple more than united

We need to then those draws into wins and I see nothing wrong with a two time title winner as a squad player

By the way to me yoy are no LFC fan and if we heard yoy talking some of the mundless ramblings at anfield we'd kindly escort you out

Agree0 Disagree0

Everyone was crying out for us to sign experienced and prem proven players last window. We finally make one of those signings, someone who has won the league not once, but twice, and you still have the nerve to moan. Who knows how Kolo will play, but please stop writing players off before they have played a game in our Red.

Agree0 Disagree0

Grow Up!

Why don't you wait until he's kicked a ball for us before you start whining like you've got sand in your vagina.

Agree0 Disagree0

Crikey. you're a bundle of laughs aren't you mate?
Oh and here's a thought . we've got a very young inexperienced squad and Kolo's won the league with 2 different teams - seems like a sensible signing to me?

Agree0 Disagree0

Yawn yawn, M for Misery is back with yet another wrist-slitting update. Keep sobbing into your blue hanky, M, the rest of us can judge Toure on his performances.

Yeah let's all give out about a member of the Arsenal invincibles because we got him on a free and didn't fork out 20m for him. What is wrong with people here? There was a time not to long ago where Toure was one of the best of the best and if he gives us even half of that ability and experience he's worth it.

Irish redman

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Spot on mate!

Agree0 Disagree0

What's wrong is some people are people and don't have a clue. Instead they will moan about any player who is signed because it doesn't agree with what occurs on their fantasy football game. There was a time when a player was given the chance to prove themselves for the club they sign for. The persons on here complaining would have rejected Shankly because he didn't manage a big club; they would have cried and moaned at paisley for signing a player from lowly Chester, and no way would they have Kenny take over as manager, while still a plaey, because he was too inexperienced. I actually give up on some of the fans on this site. Fortunately I don't follow them I follow LFC so I'll trust their judgement over the whining fools.

If real did make an offer of 25million euros + both Alvaro Morata and Jese Rodriquez then i'd take it.

Reason; They are both worth around £8m and both still only 20. by the time they are 22 it could double.!

Jese is a David Vila type Forward the Morata more Michu type. Both styles we don't have in the first team nor in the Academy therefor won't affect the youth. perhaps Yesil but doubt it, he will get his chances.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Or they could turn out to be rubbish like Granero who dalglish was targeting (thank the lords that never came to fruition)

Agree0 Disagree0

Person. That is all I say to you.
You want to accept 2 kids from Real for our top Striker.
And even then they retain a buy-back option on both the kids so if they perform well they can sign them back.
I think you are " AS DUMB AS A SACK OF ROCKS" as Ed002 would say.

"If you're good enough you're old enough" can work both ways, for the younger AND the old. As long as Toure provides sufficient performances for our team I couldn't give a damn how old he was. Judge a player and the managers judgement once he's actually kicked a ball for us.
