It doesn't matter if lambert is 22 or 32 the man will give us a different option up front,
And he will score goals we need a squad that can cope with the amount of games we have Brendan and the scouting staff will have done there home work and if they think lambert will do the job so be it,
He gets goals and I'll back him 100%
He will be an excellent signing IF we get him

Ricky Lambert. Silly signing

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Nah mate, you're the silly one.

Agree0 Disagree0

No mate, Aspas and Borini have been poor signings.
If it is Lambert, he knows where the goals are.
He played a stormer when Liverpool got stuffed there last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry redhead you're way off the mark

this guy knows where the goal is.

Agree0 Disagree0

Alright lads wait and see, don't want to see any hypocrites if he doesn't perform though

Agree0 Disagree0

Redhead.

Seeing as though you posted in the teams section with Agger at RCB, Pogba for midfield and mo Henderson in your team I'll take your musings with a heavy dose so salt. You don't seem to have a grip on reality. Most true Liverpool fans will think this signing is perfect. We are effectively swapping no goals Aspas for 13 PL goals Lambert meaning we have a 65 goal strike force. Lambert is a really good player. He's massively motivated. He's a TEAM player. Give that head a wobble.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hahah, so he is a romantic (or delusional).

Can no one see the positive from signing lambert for £4M it obviously means suarez is staying around next season at Least

Believable1 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 22:42:22
Obviously lambert is being signed to bulk up the squad, 60 goals in the last 3 years?
A very good squad signing I'd say

Believable1 Unbelievable0

60 goals in 3 yrs and wants to be a back up? Sign him b4 Chelsea come in for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

He may sign as a "back up" but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him play his way into contention for our starting XI.

Agree0 Disagree0

He'll play loads of games. Our season will be at least 10 games longer next season. Sturridge won't play twice a week. And you can't predict injuries. I like the fact that we seem to going after players we know we can trust to deliver in the Prem. I was hoping at least 50% came ready prepared and that's the way it's looking.

Evening eds well t seems like we are starting to make sum early moves hopefully the moreno deal comes off and I think lambert will be a pretty good signing plus if we can get can, lallana and shaqiri it will be a pretty good window in respect to them 3 do you have any updates hoping for some news on lallana we made a bid but still no word weather its been rejected or not if it gets rejected do you see us trying again or do you believe we will try for a cheaper option.p.s also all this bout us rippping off bournemouth is b******* we don't conduct our business like that.thanks again for any updates love this site

Just had a glance at the BBC football website and had a double take on the headline. Lambert for £4M plus add ons.

Great bit of business.

Proven goalscorer and would be whole heartedly committed to everything that is LFC.

Just for the record I haven't posted for a while as things change a lot.

Firstly I only ever mention what the players believe is going to happen.

At the time I can 100 percent confirm Willian was ready to sign, the players thought it was done, but things change, the same with Salah.

I don't claim to be in the know, I just pass on what I hear. The reason for that is because I know how frustrating it is for us fans.

Definite targets and transfers that would appear close is.

Lovren
lallana
Lambert £ million
Moreno

This what the players believe to be close.

Again they may not happen.

Cheers

Macca

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - My understanding: I am aware that Willian would have signed but the money was not there to make it happen (his words). Salah was a serious screw up - he and Basel were truly pissed at what Brendan said.

I struggle with the word "close" because of quantifiability - but I speculated on Moreno earlier, Lovren will need an increased offer, Southampton expect Liverpool to include a player and possibly a loan in a deal for Lallana but will listen to other interested parties.}

What players are we considering offering Ed? Is it just Enrique or are there others?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Alberto has screwed up, so a loan for him would probably suit all.}

Great stuff Macca, glad you're back, you and the eds are what the site is about. Enough of the brown nosing from me. can't believe you deserted us for so long!
I think lambert is a shrewd bit if business he offers such a different threat which is possibly something we missed a bit last season plus you know he will play for the shirt every time he gets on. Lallana would be great as would Moreno, lovren I haven't seen enough of to comment properly but seems as though he had a good season. Have you heard anything on shaqiri?think he'd be another great capture similar to when we got counting and sturridge, eager to play and prove his value.
Keep the info coming Macca and the eds it's appreciated!

Ed002.

Now you are out of the wedding dress.

What do you make of the Rickie Lambert story?

I don't like any of the insinuation that there has been a deal done to lower the Lallana price.

But put that to one side. As a transfer how do you see this panning out?

A good buy for LFC or not?

And surely (and I know you don't like discussing money) the price's being quoted are not factually correct are they?

Y.N.W.A.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is padding and no more to me. I suspect this will be Aspas out and a more useful option arriving.}

A good buy surely depends on the fee doesn't it?

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Ed. I think he will be an impact addition from the bench and to cover injury and tiredness.
Cannot see him being a regular starter unless he is going to rotate S&S onto the wings.
I remember when we got McCallister we had the same bull5h!t on here.
Let's just remember if he signs he will be a Liverpool player and as such, will get my respect and support.

End of the day, if Lambert is the only signing we've signed by 1st September, have a (slight) moan, because in my view it's the start of a good window. Forget about your Cavanis and Agueros of this world, BR will get in who he thinks will do the job he wants next season and if that job is only to play cup games and be on the bench at other times, so he can concentrate of the league and CL, then so be it!

Hi all- welcome to silly season

Just wanted to say thanks to Macca for breaking the story hours before BBC/Sky did. Back on form la!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 22:28:06
I think Lambert would be a quite shrewd signing if its a reasonabl fee. I guess Aspas will be on his way and whatever way you look at it Lambert will have more impact than him. So it is an improvement regardless of his age, although its not Costa or the likes but we where never going to sign a forward of that calibre without Suarez going. Just also to say that Macca doesn't always get it right. Not a critisism, more an observation and his info is always greatly welcomed.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 22:26:35
I know it's a banter page and everyone has an opinion, but surely we have learned how wrong most of us have been in terms of pre - judging players before they sign or even within their first few games. People complained about Sturridge, Coutinho, Hendo, Lucus, Sterling even Stevie at some point. I'm pretty sure BR and the scouting team don't do their scouting on Youtube then form an opinion like allot of us do. Have some faith and don't complain all transfer window because if some had their way allot of the players mentioned above would never have signed or would have been sold along time ago.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed001/Ed002/Macca you guys are incredible! Your insider knowledge is astounding! Thank you so much for sharing what you know! I know it doesn't seem like it a lot of the time but myself aswell as a lot of the other posters really appreciate what you do! Keep up the good work! Liking the Lambert news (even though I didn't see that coming at all!)

Ps, the ripping off Bournemouth talk is BS! Why would people want to encourage such vindictive behaviour?! Shameful!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 22:25:48
Lambert. Very out the blue that one. Macca has been gone for ages then pops up with that.
Very good player and a shrewd buy, Sturridge needs back up badly. I'm guessing aspas and or borini will be sold then.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - All I heard was the thumping of that old V-Twin and the flash of a badge which read "1%" as he rode off in to the sun.}

29 May 2014 22:25:20
hey Ed002 been hectic today for ya first Moreno now lambert. just want to no if you have heard any thing on lambert I no Macca says its done but what do you say? if true would love it think he is a truly underrated player!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to chase it, I will take his word for it.}

29 May 2014 22:24:19
My tuppence on today's news. With the attempt and Moreno, I Definitly see Enrique being sold, with flanno and smith the back up to a new lb. With the signing of lambert, and pursuit of lallana/shaq or other wide forwards, I think borini and aspas will be off to help fund these. We only need 3 strikers, I know we play with 2, but if s or s become injured, we can easily revert to 1 up top. Lambert will be a great signing, think about it, how much would you of loved him during the Chelsea game? Carroll bullied defenders, lambert can do that and play ball. Well done lfc, and cheers Macca.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree with everything benny except Borini.
Brendan said he wanted to keep him at the friendly with Shamrock so I think he will stay.
Although he could be just keeping the price high for a bid from Sunderland etc.

Sorry this lambert rumour has to be nonsense?!
Macca has got many things right and some lately wrong. I fully appreciate him risking himself to post on here and its always nice to get a little more information by someone who obviously knows more than most of us posters.

Just do not see this happening at all and as good as he is I do not see him fitting into LFc at all, unless we have agreed to send a good player in the other direction in both lambert and lallana. maybe aspas?

29 May 2014 22:15:52
Rickie Lambert!

Dont know about you fellow Reds but i'm delighted!

1) Life life LFC fan, commitment won't be an issue
2) Squad leader, like Gerrard. Worked his way up through the leagues, will help keep the academy kids grounded.
3) 15 goals and 10 assists in a PL season are very respectable stats, all playing for a mid table club.
4) That club is Southampton, a club with a very similar playing style to us. Reads the game well, great through balls, so he won't take long to be integrated into the system.
5) English. Chemistry with Gerrard, Hendo, Sturridge, Sterling etc
6) Won't mind sitting on the bench at 32, and should easily be able to play 2-3 more seasons at the top if not playing every week. With extra games next year a striker to back up SAS would be very useful with the jury still out on Borini.
7) Gives us a different dimension if we need a bit of strenth in some game.
8) Dead ball specialist. Great penalties. And imagine Suarez Gerrard and Lambert all stood over a freekick. I wouldn't want to be the keeper.

All that for about 4m+ add ons? Big Andy cost us 35m, and which ones in the England squad?
Anyone still complaining now needs to grow a brain.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi eds, think lambert if it comes off could be good business wondering your opinion?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It provides an option that might be very useful on occasion. Stoke away on a wet February night. He'll be fine.}

Do you see it as the start of a player exodus from Southampton ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I told the Southampton fans 10 days ago that the manager and a number of the players were likely to move on and they went ape. Yes.}

What I thought but also don't think he's getting enough credit for how good he really is on here haha his vision and off the ball runs! Still think it's a wind up but would be very happy better option than borini and aspas

29 May 2014 22:08:42
Some of you people are absolute fools!
Rickie lambert waste of money should get bony blah blah blah
Bony & others like him wouldn't come & sit on a bench!
With lambert your getting experience, guaranteed goals, a different option & passion.
I've been going to watch Southampton play since they were in league one with pardew as their manager & I always said he would play for England one day!
Quality player!
Would be a very good signing.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We are progressing with a good number of young players.
Signing Lambert is a backward step.
I would much rather we look to the future and buy a younger player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Craggan.

Agree0 Disagree0

Better than Bony for a start. Can play in various systems so gives an option for route 1 and of course the Liverpool way. Loves the club, which helps. Hits orgasmic free kicks. Offers far more than Aspas who I think was signed for similar money. We couldn't sign a world class player to sit backup to Suarez and Sturridge so I gusee a nice bit of business.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 May 2014 04:58:55
And who are the younger players going to learn from?
Experienced players like lambert.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 22:05:33
What is Rodgers smoking, rickie lambert 32 yrs old, no pace or skill an we would be lucky to get 2 seasons out of him, why did he get rid of big Andy when he is similar type of player only younger an more of a threat, does'nt make any sense to me. Eds is this actually going to happen?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lambert has 29 goals and 17 assists in 75 PL apps, he also doesn't rely on pace, so I think he'll be able to go into his late thirties, he's a life long red fan therefor he'll give it 110%.

He got rid of Carroll because he's a drunk lazy slob, who lacks any ability to play football and doesn't look after his body, and attracts unnecessary attention by beating up his girlfriend.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lambert Knows he won`t be first choice all the time and will always give his best because he breathes LFC thru and thru. At his age, he`s the Plan B people have been asking for and is quite prolific from dead ball situations. Shrewd business if it all works out.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 21:58:19
Maybe Rodgers is anticipating a penalty shoot out in the champs league then? Or. maybe he just liked the way he stuck one on Vidic in the last game of the season!?

Haha only joking, tbh we could do a lot worse than Lambert who has quality but will play his heart out for us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

After hearing from my mate who is a huge southampton fan and reading the posts on the southampton page I think we should be very pleased about the Rickie Lambert signing. He is a huge Liverpool fan and the move would be a fairytale for him and a genuine fan playing for us and grateful for any pitch time.

I do not like the general consensus of opinion that it is being done in some way to drive down the price of Lallana to screw bournemouth which would be a deplorable act. 18-23m for Lallana is a fair price range and one I expect us to meet and it would be up to southampton to accept or reject.

9m would be a fair price for Lambert given his excellent scoring record in the prem and the fact that he know he would not be first choice, his age really doesn't come into it for me, we need a bit of experience with all of the youth we are promoting.

One last point is for all of you to observe. My mate and all of the posters on the southampton page wish Lambert well and do so with dignity. Some of you should try showing a bit of that yourselves.

I for one am delighted if we get Lambert, proven prem goalscorer, offers us something different than the other forwards we have, his age is the only downside but take that as experience. The money ismt coming out of my pocket so if Brendan thimks he's the right man for the right price who are we to judge? And he's a Liverpool lad which always helps, let's get behind him before he even pulls on a jersey!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed - Would be a good signing

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 21:18:48
Gutted about the Lambert news.

We're either playing along with a scheme to cheat Bournemouth our of the full Lallana funds due to them, which shows a total lack of ethics, or we really are paying 9m for a mid-table striker with one top season left in him, at most- which is just bloody stupid.

If this is evidence of an increasing influence over transfer activity from Brendan, I am starting to worry about the future.

I slated the lethargic transfer committee when we failed to sign a winger in january, but at least one of them will surely have pointed out the minimal resale value of a 32 year old, in comparison with a 9m price tag. And been overruled by BR, it would seem.

If the selling price of Lallana is set below 20m as part of a joint deal (or whatever offer was rejected by Southampton), I would expect Bournemouth to take action, and if we are taking the p*ss out of Bournemouth, I don't see how we will get away with it. You have to look at the judgement of the people involved in this, they are letting the club down badly.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Chill man nobody's signed yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh my god its 4 mil plus add ons remember sly sports say we paid over 20 mil for hendo so fickle

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest, Lambert at 4m is a different proposition to paying 9m, if that is what the fee really is.

There are strikers available for 9m who will get a similar number of goals to Ricky, but who will still have a good resale value after 2/3 years, and we do live in a world of FFP, so you can't just ignore that issue.

So ok, he has no resale value, and I'm not sure if he'll get his regular goals tally because he won't play as central striker very often, but I must admit there is a lot to be said for a player who loves the club, and I'd really love to see a scouser and boyhood fan succeed for the club as a player.
Still got mixed feelings about it- and I hope we aren't going to get into a mess with Bournemouth.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gutted for what exactly? Lambert has shown to be very lethal n hs time at in the PL and will be delighted to finish his career at the club he has ALWAYS supported. He will give his heart and give all the effort that some players simply don`t have in them. He`ll be a leader in the dressing room that the young players can learn from because our team lacks leaders. Great bit of business. If`u`re still gutted, I suggest U go see a doctor.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would we pay 9m (as you say) to cheat Bournemouth and save ourselves, or Southampton a bit of money?

Agree0 Disagree0

Can you name these strikers then?

Also will these strikers be happy being a squad player, won't cost more than Rickie, will support the club like you and me, is used to playing in similar system to us, and is proved in the PL?

Agree0 Disagree0

"Shocker"

That was my first thought of the Lambert deal.

But the more you think of it the more it makes sense.

Sturridge has injury worries and will be subbed a lot this season.

More game's due to CL qualification for S&S meaning more games for Lambert in the league and cup games.

Will not mind spending time on the bench like some of the other players we were linked with.

Proven goal scorer. Will work his socks off for LFC.

Only worry for me is he's 32. But look at Gary Mac and Stevie to allay those worries.

29 May 2014 21:16:33
Two things really; have Liverpool gone to Southampton specifically for lambert or do you think they were told that he was on the market? And secondly depending on how much, I think there were times at the end of the season when sturridge was out that the players we had on our bench weren't strong enough for the teams we were up against. Age is just a number, and I think that we would all love a £30m striker, but who would sit on the bench? And maybe with all the other places that we are desperate to reinforce we can't afford the big names just yet

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 21:16:28
Not sure I get this Lambert buy, does it fit our purchasing policy?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Value for money.

10 assists, 13 league goals for (reportedly) £4M plus add-ons.

That's not much more than we paid for Assaidi or Sahin's loan.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 21:14:05
Why are people moaning about Lambert coming in? he's clearly being bought in to act as cover to Suarez and Sturridge, do you expect us to sign Aguero for £50M (£200k+ week wages) to sit him on the bench? Lambert has 29 goals and 17 assists in 75 PL apps, if I remember correctly he's scored 40/40 penalties, he arguably has one of the best free kicks in the league and to top it all of he's a life long red, so if you believe there's a better 3rd choice striker out there (who will willingly sit on the bench) please enlighten me.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Couldn't agree more with you mate, I'll be very pleased if we get him, although I hope all the talk of cheating bournemouth isn't true, I'm sure it's all nonsense thrown around anw

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree! People want bony or benzema! That's only happening if Suarez leaves! Some people don't understand they want want to be second/Third choice!

Agree0 Disagree0

Don`t want Benzema nor Bony. Lambert is perfect for the role he will be asked to play.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 21:11:34
Eds fellow reds, the echo saying fee for lambert is £4 million with add ons, great price and quality from off the bench when needed on those champs league evenings .aspas will be gone now .for any of the fans not to sure .if at the start of last season we would have said sign aspas or lambert for same fee which one would you choose?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That's more like it 4 million I'll take that

Agree0 Disagree0

At last sensible people

I don't understand the interest we hold in Lambert. Yes he performed well in Southampton but in my opinion he does not play the style we are looking to play. He is a striker that is great with his back to goal and holding up the ball, but that's not what we need in a striker. He worked well in the system Southampton play but I'm not sure he is well suited to our style.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Soton don't exactly play all that dissimilar to us, to be honest. They're not exactly West Ham.

Agree0 Disagree0

You obviously haven't seen the lad play too often then.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed good post

Agree0 Disagree0

Against teams like chelsea that is what we needed though.

Agree0 Disagree0

My opinion is BR must have picked Gerrard's brain regarding the player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Southampton plays the exact same way we play and Lambert has thrived in tha system. I suggest you inform yourself before whining.

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree with you MG but I respect your opinion and I won't criticize you for expressing it. Its all about opinions.
I'm delighted as me Ma is from Kirkby.
I wonder if Ricky went to Roughwood school?

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 21:06:51
Ed I no you don't like talking money so I won't suggest any figures, however the Echo are reporting the fee for Lambert is some what half of what ssn are suggesting. It would make more sense believing the Echo. What's your take on that please?

Also would you expect Aspas to move on?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no interest in discussing money - you will only become confused - eventually bumping in to stuff.}

BBC are saying 4mil plus add ons as well. The add ons might take it to 7-8 and maybe that's what the confusion is. Eg if we win the league, champions league, if lambert scores over 20 goals that might take it higher. Just a guess though.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 21:00:53
To be honest guys, Suarez, Sturridge, Lambert and Borini (Potentially Sterling too) is not a bad strike force for a champions league squad. Its not Real Madrid, but if our main two need a rest, the addition of Lambert will secure some quality up front. Its not my money, and Brendan knows best I guess.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 20:58:53
Got to feel a bit sorry for saints. Good Manager gone, looks like they will lose shaw, lovren, Lallana and lambert. Whole spine ripped out. Hope they stay up next year I have enjoyed the games I have watched this year with them in. Good footballing side.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They should buy valbuena and bafetimbi gomis to replace Lallana & Lambert. and net a healthy profit.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, quite sorry for the Saints fans. But they have shown they can come back and I suspect they will have some cash to burn after all the dust has settled and will be a decent team next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 20:55:47
Dont understand all the complaining on here to be honest. I can understand why people feel that 10 million is too much for lambert but I can see exactly why the bid has been put in.

We need a backup striker and just having borini wouldn't cut it, he's too inexperienced to cover for suarez or sturridge all on his own.

Lambert is 32, and will be more than happy to sit on the bench at such an age, coming to the end of his career. His experience is exactly what we need for the role, a teddy sheringham
if you will.

In fact it is his likeness to seringham that will make him a smart buy. Pace isn't his game, as like to sheringham, who played til he was 40, so a decline of a dramatic sort is unlikely to be of occurence.

He is an lfc fan, a local boy, and we could never buy the commitment we would get from him anywhere else.

He is proven in england, scoring the exact ratio of goals youd expect from a backup striker (10-15 a season) and would provide a different dimension that we desperately need, but without sacrificing our play style, as he has about 10 assists for this season I believe, and is adapted to our play style having been with southampton- in short, he is very good with the ball on the floor.

Other than the slight possibility of a decline, and doubts over whether he is good enough for europe, I only see positives in bringing lambert to the club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 20:49:03
i love how people think we will go buy a super start striker as backup(and saying tht lambert has a good goal scoring record)!and more to the point pulling players to peices before they've even pulled on the shirt!GET A GRIP!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

News down here on the coast ( southampton)
Lambert, loveren and lallana are the deal. Lambert and loveren take the deal up with lallana price going down to roughly 2mill so bournemouth get less. That way it seems we pay over the odds and saints get the money they asked for.
Any truth in that eds? Seems reasonable.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - An excellent way to get Everton a place in the Champions League.}

If we do something so underhanded just to screw over a smaller team that could probably do with that sort of cash injection then I will think a lot less of my team, could be a worse PR disaster than the Suarez saga and would ensure that no one would ever want to deal with us again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Edd. If southampton are wanting it that way, and Liverpool pay the desired amount for all 3 regardless( even though paying let's say 15 m for lallana), you can't fault Liverpool in this . i'm also sure Liverpool don't want the price of lallana excessive fair enough. But surely its up to the saints at what they sell their players at . Even though it seems underhanded at short changing Bournemouth, which is a shame . i'm of the opinion, that the club receiving the fee is more inclined to want it this way

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You have to be some sort of fucking idiot. Liverpool would, if found guilty, given a transfer ban, possibly a points reduction and UEFA rules would certainly see them out of the Champions League. But you could pop along and see Everton play in it.}

Nicely put Ed, we would deserve it as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with ed totally, we are not sharks like on Wall Street hey we all like to make £££££ but this is ridiculous and is 100% bull.

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpaul88, that is ridiculous. If we did that we would rightly be punished and the club would go down in my estimation. We will do things right and if we sign lallana Bournemouth will get the 25% they deserve. We can't rip off other clubs or no-one will deal with us as well as being morally and wrong in the eyes of uefa and any right minded fan.

Agree0 Disagree0

No idea if the reported £4M + add-ons is true, but if it is I'd say we're underpaying for Lambert, if anything.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sort them out ed

Agree0 Disagree0

Hang on a minute, Bournemouth narrowly missed out on the playoffs and could have been a premiership team. We're not talking about Accrington Stanley.

Lambert record last season:
14 goals
10 assists

Pretty impressive for somebody who wasnt seen as first choice at the start of the season.

He is an excellent goal scorer, has free kicks in his locker too, brilliant hold up play and a link with the midfield.
He was pivotal to Southamptons style of play last season, with intelligent movement and passes.

His attitude is top class and he would fit in with the team spirit Rodgers has built in the squad.

Providing Suarez stays, any striker coming in knows they won't be first choice so that limits the potential options straight away, unless you increase their pay packet which attracts mercenaries.

I think he will be a great signing and can't believe people are slagging him and the club off already.

Give me him over Balotelli or Benzema any day.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 20:54:11
Heard about Borini?

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree grate player also a lfc fan!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Excellent points and I for one think people will be saying what a bargain Rickie Lambert is next season. He will link up well with either Suarez or Sturridge. I just don't understand why people would be so against this deal yes maybe the little inflated but if you know anything about football you can't deny how the lad has developed into a top striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 20:45:05

Imagine what lambert would have said if you told him when he signed for saints that in a few years he'd be in the BPL and get the chance to play at Anfield and make the bench for an England friendly?
Now looks like he is about to sign for us and board a plane to the World Cup in Brazil!
Would be a great buy and give us options AT the right price, but going to follow the eds advice and ignore money talk at the moment

Jamesee

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes, we signed him on a Bosman

Agree0 Disagree0

Imagine how good it'll be for Jack Dunn, Samed Yesil and to a lesser extent Fabio Borini to learn from both Luis Suarez & Rickie Lambert. Like Steven Gerrard learned from Gary McAllister.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gary Mac was almost 40 when we signed him and he turned out to be one our best signings in decades. If Lambert makes that type of impact, he will be loved forever like Gary Mac is now.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 20:42:16
Ricky Lambert. Im.not sure.on this one atall. he's 32 and.had.a.decent season. What about borini or youngsters given a.chance. How will they feel? doesn't make sense me this interest.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 20:40:49
Assuming that Lambert does now sign, as Southampton would have to be out of their minds to turn down anything above 8mil for a 32 year old, would you think that it is to 1) provide cheap cover for Sua/Stu 2) encourage Llana to join aswell.

I personally rate Lambert he contributes well with goals and assists but I can't see him having very much effect in a title chasing team

Thanks

BDOT

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I personally really hope it is something to do with '2' as the two players obviously know each others strengths and have built up a very good partnership over recent years. However I think it is most likely just '1', with Lallana joining being unrelated but still possible. Seriously hope that it isn't the £8m figure being touted about as he most likely won't play much and he is 33 in February, despite being a good player.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 20:38:13
Got to be said, I do no Ricky personally from our younger years and I'm do delighted we've got him, his wife and sister and cousin have all confirmed to me today that's it's dine pending the medical, great signing, please any doubters if Ricky leave your names below so I can laugh at yous in12 months time, hel play a major role next year, he's got goals wherever he's played and can guarantee you as a local lad he will give 200% every tine he wears the liver bird in his chest, he's a proud red and still associates with the friends he grew up with, very grounded and respected fella from by ours as is his family, by all accounts this is Roy if the rovers stuff! Delighted red tonight, start if a good summer me thinks :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Great buy John end of. The lad will be fantastic next season and he fully deserves the move. Forget his age what's the old saying that's been used recently by Rodgers if your good enough your old enough. Rickie Lambert may not be 18 but the lad has ability in abundance. I can't wait to see this deal concluded. Great to welcome back to the fold a true red and scouser.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 20:37:44
WooooooooW

The most interesting part is nooo fan would have even thought lambert would be linked or even mentioned to be connected in any Liverpool transfer rumour

I'm not even going to say whether Liverpool should be going for younger players or not
For me I just hope Brendan starts quick and soon with quality signings that's needed in the right positions

Cos this ain't good at all . Even if it's false it would stil be a waste of money when the boy borini is ready

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lambert has 29 goals and 17 assist's in 75 PL appearances, if I remember correctly he's also never missed a penalty scoring 40/40, on top of this he arguably has one of the best free kicks in the league and he's also a life long red, I think he's easily be the best 3rd choice striking option Liverpool could of gone for.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 20:35:50
oh my god can everyone stop moanining lambert will be an excellent back up and different option his record speaks for it self and as tony barret of the time says its for 4 mill plus ad ons witch re will recoupe from aspas and let's face it who would you rather have the guy is a Liverpool fan give him a chance before you right him off!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 20:29:57
Please god I hope it's not true, but it looks like it is, just
having a quick browse at this site I didn't know we had so
many RICKY LAMBERT followers, at the end of last season
I didn't hear anyone say YER KNOW WHAT I HOPE WE SIGN
RICKY LAMBERT.".
We're is the quality you mentioned BRENDA.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Your a fool he is quality rather him over a lot of over priced players we have been linked with or bought over time

Agree0 Disagree0

Lambert is a quality player, he's a massive Liverpool fan will do a job for the team. He's a change of pace from what we've got up front at present and will provide a presence up front that we definitely lack. I think Brendan has done more than enough to prevent so called fans from referring to him as "brenda"

Agree0 Disagree0

I posted this a month ago or so:

"29 Apr 2014
Actually I do think if Lambert were available at a reasonable price and is willing to be in a bit of a secondary role for us (and I have no idea if either is true), he would be a pretty good pickup as a third choice striker. He's decent in the air, but he also is pretty good with the ball at his feet and has a fair amount of assists/chances created for Soton this season so he's not purely a target man per se."

Short version is I think he's a great signing. Tied for 13th in goal scoring last season with Gerrard. Tied for 4th in assists with Rooney. Created more chances than the likes of Sterling, Toure, or Oscar and near as many as Henderson. What's not to like?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think its a good signing, that has come from out of left field. Yes he is 32 but has great ability and has matured into an excellent modern striker who will be an asset If only for a couple of seasons. 5 million would have been a more reasonable price. I firmly believe you will be saying what a good buy at the end of next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wembley, you're clearly not a Liverpool fan, you're a dense twit who comes on here to stir things up, wouldn't surprise me if you're Harry or The Word, what so called Liverpool fan calls Rodgers "Brenda".

P.s It's Rickie not Ricky.

Agree0 Disagree0

Remember RDL saying that and thinking it would be good but wouldn't ever happen! I like the lad. Great back up, great attitude. He'd play a huge role in the dressing room, a bit of experience will help guide the talent we've got coming through. Great move. don't care about the money, that's down to the club to worru abouy

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember RDL saying and I remember replying positively to it.

Wembly78, the only thing lacking in any quality right now is your pathetically poor posts.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol great post made me laugh. I asked for a dining table they brought me a lamp famous saying from who?

lambert is 32 years old, this is just stupid.why do we always waste money.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

How do you know its a waist of money? he hasn't even played yet!. Do you have a crystal ball?

Agree0 Disagree0

Lambert will make an excellent replacement for Suarez. April fools day in May!

Agree0 Disagree0

Look at the past Campbell, lambert is 32 and we have a list of money wasted.aspas, alberto, borini and lambert will be added to that list.so much talent out there and we buy a 32 year old who never played for a top team.i am die hard fan.really thought we would get a worldclass striker to rotate with s&s.

Agree0 Disagree0

At least everyone will get the players with the PL experience they have been ranting on about. be happy

Agree0 Disagree0

Would a world class striker want to play second fiddle to Suarez and Sturridge? No they wouldn't. Would Lambert? Yes, it seems as if that's the case. He hit double figures with goals and got a fair number of assists, it's a shame at how negative you are.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aspas, Borini or Alberto aren't 32. Why is ti a waste of money. You are spouting plain rubbish now.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 20:15:41

lambert is a good player but not lfc quality.bony is younger better.
i cannot believe that we are intersted in lambert.i am sorry.
malta

Believable0 Unbelievable0

And possibly three times the cost - also had one good season.

Any signing is a risk.

IMO would work his socks off to get a game and be happy coming off the bench if required; would also get enough game time if Sturridge is injured.

Agree0 Disagree0

There is also like £12m different in value and Bony who will command a higher wage + keep Sturridge and Suarez happy as our no.1 strikers, as well as managing the expectations of the player coming in.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bony looks a bit lazy and wwot be 3rd striker

Agree0 Disagree0

Why isn't Lambert good enough for LFC? He has been very good for a player who not so long ago was playing in League 2.

He has had to work his way up, proving himself at every level and at 32 he was 1 of the 15 players in Europe's top 5 leagues to have scored and assisted 10 or more last season.

At 32, he has a well deserved opportunity to play for the club he has always supported and being able to play CL. He would also be not unhappy sitting on the bench and being a squad player.

Some not so bright folks are saying BR is a hypocrite for buying Lambert after selling Carroll. They are not similar players dimwit (wembley78).

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 20:03:58
Well, as much as I really rate Ricky Lambert, I think £8-10m is far too much. He's 32, would presumably not have a big role in the squad, and have no resale value. Still a talented player though.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

BBC saying £4m, much more reasonable, I don't see us paying £8m for him to be honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 20:02:57
Guess borini will be sold then.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why?
we need 4 decent strikers, and with saurez, sturridge, borini and lambert
that looks pretty good to me.
its all about having a strong squad and I believe he would be a good, affordable option

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 19:55:03
ssn reporting 8-10 million for lambert we can now put that rumour to bed doesn't fit our transfer policy that price for maybe 1/2 seasons no chance

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 20:19:31
Sorry, we won't be paying that kinda money on him, Unless Borini is off

Ssn maybe wrong. Lots of different sources have quoted different figures; 4 million, 7 million, 8 million, 9 million, 8-10 million.

So clearly, no one knows.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 19:42:39
If Lambert comes in, Where would that take Borini?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why Borini? Seems as if Aspas is more likely to leave.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets say we get a similar amount for Aspas as we do for Lambert (or a couple of Million difference); who would you want on the bench out of the two (no dig as Aspas I actually like him but can see the sense in buying Lambert as a replacement).

Agree0 Disagree0

I would say both would leave now.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 19:41:23
Lambert
Are you lot sure. You don't rate him etc.
Those of you old enough will know, the FIFA generation look it up, Aldo, that's john Aldridge, scouser scored goals, not generally fancied by others but did us a great job. Lambert will as well, holds the ball up brings people into the game and Scores. If you have a problem call him Lamberto and imagine he's from barca B team.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I know this is getting ahead of ourselves, but if we sign Moreno I would be very happy. I am a big fan of opposite style full backs, eg Moreno looks to get forward, whereas flanno (my choice for rb) is more defensively inclined. Especially with sterling likely playing in a rw position occasionally, then it allows him space in behind exploit his pace. Additionally, if we have coutinho lw/lm, he is not as quick, allowing for Moreno to overlap and get in behind also, and creating space for coutinho himself to cut inside and still have a wide option. I've seen spurs play a few times at whl, as my dad is a big fan, and they had a problem with walker and Lennon both looking to exploit the same space and although they are quick, it was easy to read! City play with opposite style wingers a lot too, with navas right, and Nasri/silva left, allowing for the same opportunities to arise! I hope he comes as I've heard good things!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I hope we get a left back who can defend well and then occasionally roams forward when appropriate.

Agree0 Disagree0

I haven't seen much of Moreno (apart from the U21's last seaon (can't remember if it was the U21 euro's) but he looked a good player; can't comment if he is good enough etc.

But with Moreno and Flanagan; Johnson and Kelly then that's not a bad combination of full backs.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 19:47:29
Why would we pay 9m for lambert when he is 31, and doesn't suit our style of play?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why do you say he doesn't suit our style of play. Rickie is a superb striker who can set up play as well as finish. He has matured into a terrific modern striker and fits the bill perfectly. Yes he is 32 but will still give us 2 seasons at his peak. If he can help us lift the EPL next season it will be 9 mill well spent.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's ok, he's 32 not 31 :-)

Mcallister was great at 34/35 when he joined us. btw Free agent doesn't mean he doesn't cost anything.

I think he would be a good signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lambert is nothing like Carrol and is a much better footballer and I didn't say the Lambert deal on its own could win us the Premier league. He will give us much better options than we had last season. can't see Suarez and Sturridge being injury free all season and we have Champs League as well. So get real look at the facts forget the lads age 9 million is a bit overpriced but he will be an excellent addition. Rather spend 8 or 9 million on Rickie Lambert than Aspas. Oh and isn't he going to Brazil.

So. Ricky Lambert

Of course there's no way of knowing if its done or not but I like it.

He would add another dimension to the squad, seems a real pro and loves the club.

Maybe not too dissimilar to the role Claudio Pizarro has at Bayern?!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree, we had no idea Brendan Rodgers would ever sign a player like Lambert, but what a great plan b and when the team need to rest strikers for the European games, he may be invaluable.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 19:41:07
He is a Liverpool fan.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 20:22:32
I don't know what's this plan B with Lambert. If its more like Long balls, Whose going to whip in?. Are we going to buy some specialist Plan B wingers, like downing or Jarvis?

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 19:01:01
I wish the people who keep saying we are going to rip off Bournemouth would stop it. It's embarrassing to have fans that want to cheat a lower club who have done nothing whatsoever except have the foresight to see one of their players may get a big move in future put off their money.

It's wishful thinking that Lallana is included in this deal and I think that we have probably dropped or interest in llallana due to the price and will look to shaquiri instead as a player with a price which suits us more.

Either way stop encouraging cheating, good be angry if a team did that to Liverpool and you'd have good reason to be.

{Ed002's Note - Southampton has said that there have been no acceptable offers for any players and their efforts are in getting the manager sorted out first. Surprisingly, given the news we have seen, they have said no "done" deals.}

Totally agree, shame on a great club like Liverpool if they were involved in anything like this.
Its because of the smaller clubs that big clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal become big clubs.

I'm not saying Liverpool are involved in anything sinister, because they are probably not.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 18:41:46
I like Lambert a lot as a player, as you could probably tell by my username, seems a top lad from his interviews as well, it does seem a strange transfer though, probably a plan B option but still odd. Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can't believe we'd even consider buying him to be honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

According to tv, the offer is between £8m and £10m, I can't say I'd understand the real figure, as the Eds have pointed out, but it does seems excessive for a player that I can only see being a backup for only a few seasons. Great player, but I just can't understand it.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is a big surprise, Brendan Rodgers has never shown any interest in such players but he should prove invaluable.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seems like a lot of money for a 32yr old.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets say we buy him, he stays fit and plays approx 30 - 40 games a season for 3 years then leaves on a free.

Is that better or worse than signing a younger player who gets 10 games a season or has to go on loan for 2 seasons only to leave after their third season on a free?

He could come in - score 15 goals win us the league or champions league and everyone will be saying what a great decision and I knew he'd be a good player for us.

Regardless of age would he improve the current squad? IMO yes he would.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 18:37:02
Hi eds fantastic work as usual. Are you softening up a bit? I much preferred the sarcastic version ;) I ve been following the site over the last month or so an feel most players mentioned aren't really going to set the pitch on fire. I hope we don't dwindle shed loads of cash on fillers. If we can't get our primary targets don't settle for second best push the young lads through. Suso ibe Kelly Flanagan etc maybe we need a bench striker and pepe to sit on the bench but save the money Brendan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 18:35:16
IF we sign lambert I think it'd be a shrewd bit of business, great player I think although it does seem strange we would target him given his age, but he always impressed me his goal record is excellent.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 18:34:15
Lallana to move to LFC for 5m.

Lambert to move to LFC for 15m.

Suits all except Bournemouth.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - You think cheating is a good thing to encourage Liverpool to do? And cheating a lower tier side out of money they are due? If they do this they will quite rightly be charged by the FA. I assume the consequences are meaningless to you? You can of course then bleat and whine about it being an FA conspiracy by against Liverpool.

I am constantly appalled by some so called football fans?

......trash..............

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Do you want to go the same way as the others?}

Totally understand the moral implications of this ed, and rightly these suggestions should be stopped, however, despite blatant cheating, how is it illegal? Cheers mate

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is not legal. Liverpool do this they will be charged by the FA and if found guilty certainly a transfer embargo and a being kicked out of the Champions League would be looming.}

29 May 2014 22:22:12
I agree that cheating is not something we should support and I am sure Liverpool will do the right thing.
But Ed002 you are looking trigger happy today for sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are an honourable club like all, but perhaps one, English team. They should be supported.}

29 May 2014 18:29:19
Ed, is the rumours about Emre Can true as there suggesting a move is close worth £12 million? Also if he was to sign would he play in the first team or go out on loan? Do you expect him to sign?

Thanks, great site

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Done to death. Certainly would not go out on loan. RTFP.}

29 May 2014 18:20:24
Think Lambert is a great signing myself, he Loves the club, has the hunger that Brendan. He reached double figure last season in both goals and assists. Remember the amount of games we have to play next season, he will be great in the domestic cups and is sure better than Aspas, with no disrespect to the guy( I got him on the back of my shirt lol). Ed001 has mentioned how Sturridge has to be subbed of for medical reasons, well lambert will be great to bring on. Mind this is all only applicable and great if he's a bench player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He will be an excellent squad player for us if he signs. In 75 PL appearances for Southampton, Lambert has 28 goals and 17 assists; excellent stats IMO and we all know how he plays.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree, I think he'll fit in nicely as Saints play a good brand of football and Lambert has proved he can perform well and has adapted well to that style of play. He can score different types of goals, offers a bit of physicality up front and something different to turn to as a plan b, plus he has been solid under pressure and takes a good penalty. If it's true and the price is sensible it's a good piece of business and shows BR is recognising areas we can improve upon within the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree mate, many people will be moaning because our THIRD striker isn't world class

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 18:18:21
If the Lambert news is true, I personally would think it was a superb deal.

Similar forward in my mind to players like Zamora and Heskey, very intelligent on and off the ball. The stats speak for themselves.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Oh well, if he's like Zamora and Heskey, when can he start! I hear both those players can hit the side netting from anywhere on the pitch, and are top draw at winning a goal kick for the opposition! I think Lambert's got a bit more about him that those two.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 18:05:51
Lambert to Liverpool! Can't believe it just call us southampton next season! Clyne, Lovren, Schniderlin, Lallana, Lambert! Who we linked with next Rodriguez!?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We were linked with Rodriguez a while back, during his Burnley days I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Spurs will be interested if he can prove his fitness in time.}

Everybody chill!

Macca has said it, so I certainly give it more credence than the vast majority of other rumours out there, but let's just take a look.

Macca also said that Salah was a done deal, Tello would be signed on loan and that Suarez would definitely leave.

I would say that Macca is infinitely more accurate than most but still has a poor hit rate. That is the crazy world of transfers we live in.

I won't believe anything until I see someone standing next to BR's pearly whites holding the shirt.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 18:03:29
we've already been linked with loads and loads of players and its still over a month away from the actual window even opening. I imagine that number will atleast triple during the world cup with people catching MOTD fever. we should start a drink fund for the eds. they're going to need it!

29 May 2014 17:43:16
Ed002

Seems like everyone's been whipped into a frenzy about this Moreno news. Have you heard any confirmation of a bid? Or could this be in fact the other Moreno, Hector?
If we're to take the media's word as gospel, Can, Lallana and no doubt a hundred others should be Liverpool players now.
I'll await confirmation from you.
Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Hector has moved on and is interesting and interested in Manchester United. There is plenty of pontification from me about Alberto already.}

29 May 2014 17:34:38
Ed002, I believe you stated earlier that you were unsure as to whether Liverpool had put in an offer for Sevilla's Alberto Moreno, but do you know, bids aside, whether the club actually holds an interest in him? Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The much speculated interest in Moreno of weeks past was very well respected centre back Hector Moreno - who now has suitors from Manchester. Alberto Moreno makes sense as he is a left back, everyone knows Chelsea have stepped back and so a bid is perfectly plausible - I did, unusually, speculate about this in an earlier post.}

29 May 2014 17:38:41
Ed we all know we need another striker wondering if you could shed any light otaste kees were looking at as sky repairing were looking at lambert please put our minds at rest as surely he's not good enough for Liverpool?

Great site, thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is the Brazilian Lambertinho and the papers got it wrong. Better?}

He was one of the stand out players in the PL last season.

jDONTloveLambert.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do some dislike Lambert so much? I quite like the thought. He's a decent striker, a Liverpool supporter, and much more than just a target man. He had the 4th most assists in the league last year at 10 - more than Oezil, Silva, Toure, etc. He created almost as many chances for Soton as Coutinho did for us.

Honestly if the price were reasonable I'd be quite chuffed about him coming into the side and think he'd be a very useful player for us next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely agree RDL. He would be an excellent player for if we got him. He would also be happy to be a squad player being a huge huge LFC fan.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on there RDL. Hopefully some other posters think before shooting him down now.

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember about 2 months ago saying lambert would be a good addition, strong, good in the air and can play football, and I got laughed at by most! didn't start every week for Southampton and still got double figures! I think he fits the bill of backup perfectly, something a bit different, but not as clumsy as the likes of Carroll!

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to agree, as long as at a good price he would be a good addition to the squad, plus a good option for crosses in the box

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with all the Pro Lambert posts; what is £7, 8, 9 or 10 million if you win the league or Champions League?

He's impressed me with England and can offer something a little bit different but still suits our style of play IMO.

No offence to Aspas but he will probably get more game time than him and get his fair share of goals.

The amount may look a lot but then again Van Persie went for close to £30m at 29 and i'm sure Lambert's wage demands will not be anything like his.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 17:43:46

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't know what to make of that one.

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

Not in Liverpools style of play? Southamptons is very similar! Possession and counter attacks? He still plays well for them

Agree0 Disagree0

Bit of a surprise that, if true.
Fabio Borini will surely be sold if this one happens.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - How about Aspas rather than Borini?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi Eds02,

Any chance you could let us know the reason for the Chelsea-Moreno deal breaking down.

Also what are you thoughts on us constantly low-balling teams with initial offers. We've had our fingers burnt before where other teams steam in when we've been in talks for a while. Is it overconfidence or bad negotiating tactics? I do really hope we get a deal sorted for Lallana.

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The Moreno situation is not for discussion. The other stuff was dealt with yesterday.}

A west ham tattoo was spotted on his left cheek when he has his medical.

Agree0 Disagree0

You really have instigated my curiosity with this moreno and Chelsea thing ed
What could be wrong with him?perhaps some injury concerns

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is easier just to ignore it.}

Don't tell me he sold one of his kidneys on the black market or something!

Agree0 Disagree0

It's because he could be signed for less than 25m, so Chelsea pulled out.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 22:14:15
Is there still a chance of Luke Shaw for Chelsea Ed002?
The only reason I ask is because I told everyone that this would be the first transfer to happen>>> I have not given up hope!
Also do we have any interest in Mo Diame. From what I am reading he was desperate to join us a couple of years ago and still wants to apparently. Cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - As of Friday Chelsea asked if they could be kept informed of any developments - that is where we are right now.}

29 May 2014 16:56:25
Now I'm lost- we're not just odds-on, but 1/6 to sign Ricky Lambert before September. Where the h*** has that come from?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 16:05:14
Orite, I have few queries first of all how good is Alberto Moreno, I see a lot of people excited about him but is it because he has been touted around the top clubs people think he is a top player or does he have the skill to back it up, I just get a bit skeptical when we beat any top teams to players as I always assume if he was good enough he would of been bought by Chelsea? what was there reason for dropping interest?

And secondly I feel as though we will miss out on Lallana now, which again there are more fish in the sea, but who do we actually have declared interest in if we don't get Lallana?

Thanks get back to me when you can, I know use are busy :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - (a) Nobody doubts Moreno is a good player. (b) Southampton have made clear that there efforts are focused on sorting out the manager rather than worrying about transfers and that whilst there have been bids for players, none have been acceptable and there are no "done deals". Liverpool have shown an interest in both Will Hughes and Parejo as well. Shaqiri is of interest and the window has yet to open. No need to panic just yet.}

Sometimes Europe's elite are asleep at the wheel.

We signed Suarez, and Coutinho cost peanuts relative to his potential.

I hope this is one of those times. If we manage it, it will be quite a coup though. A lot of top/wealthy sides are being linked.

Keep your testes crossed m8!

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 15:52:00
I would be P'd off if we offered Suso on a permanent basis in the bid for Moreno. I would rather us offer Alberto back for a fraction of what we payed for him than give Suso away…
but on the other hand if it's only a loan deal then there probably isn't another club that I would be happy Suso joining, big step up from Almeria.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 17:07:10
They won't need Alberto, Who on earth would pay 9 mill for a player from second division apart from us.

Agree0 Disagree0

While we're at it why no offer Aspas as part exchange for Sanchez.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nobody has said Luis Alberto will cost 9 million, only you Harry. And, you don't know if Sevilla want him or not, so again you are speculating, and even then irrationally.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suso is only half a year younger than coutinho and coutinho has much more potential IMO! If we get another attacking option, that's a lot of players to keep happy in similar position! Maybe another loan, and if he comes back amazing then fair enough, but I don't think he will be better than what we got, or coming through the youth!

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 19:48:27

Are we still interested?

Ed001. SUSO?

What's the story.
Only a year left on his contract and if reports are to be believed being hawked around as a potential departure in the summer.

I really rate this guy from what I have seen of him.

Do you think BR does?
Or do you think the reports are correct and he will be leaving this summer?

I would have thought a new contract and some playing time at Liverpool would be what the guy needs. He seems a awesome talent and IMO has earned a contract extension. Your thoughts?

(b) An offer was made to Porto by a third party - the offer included Suso. I put this down to a rogue representative which crop up regularly at this time of the year. (c) I suspect BRs issue relates to how to give him enough time playing for the first team at Liverpool. (d) At the very least Suso will want some assurances that he won't be sat in the reserves. (e) He doesn't need a new contract. (f) Does he want to be first pick, how far will he compromise etc.. (g) Much is expected of him, I am not sure that "awesome" is the right adjective. Adam West as Batman - that is awesome. (h) He might be open to an extension. (I) My thoughts? A little strange, you problably don't want to know.}

Ed, you've mentioned that Suso was included in an offer made to Porto, can you elaborate on who the Porto player player is?

Great site, thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 15:13:51
Hey eds, would you guys be happy with moreno for suso? I've read the posts but can't quite make out if its a loan or a permanent exchange.

I can't imagine with another loan and our interest in lallana/Sanchez that there is a place for him at Liverpool.

Tis a shame because he looks a really decent player.

its a s

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Sanchez?}

As in, if sanchez comes in there is 1 more mid/attack player to squeeze into a starting 11 already brimming with talent.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - What makes you think Sanchez will be moving to Liverpool? If Suarez were to move it might be viable financially.}

I'd give him a season on loan to Sevilla before letting him leave. Luis Alberto or Suso…Suso for me all day.

Agree0 Disagree0

So we can cross out Sanchez unless Suarez is sold. That leaves one of Lallana, Shaqiri, Pedro, Tello or Konoplyanka.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I would cross off Tello as well. Real Sociedad and Barcelona have discussed a one year loan deal with an option to buy or a straight exchange for Claude Bravo as a back up to ter Stegen.}Liverpool has not spoken to Dnipro about Konoplyanka since January.}

I'd be happy to let Suso go with a buy back clause in the deal.
That way, everyone's a winner. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Can buyback clauses be inserted for a player moving from a side in the Premier League?

I rather suspect Suso will want o move permanently after being treated like he is not particularly wanted at LFC.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 14:39:34
Hey eds and reds,

If we sell suso, I would probably be a little bit upset. But for a quality player like Moreno, it has to be worth it. It wouldn't be, but we have a player ready to make the first team breakthrough in Teixeira, one that has impressed me way more than suso did for the first team. I honestly don't see much difference between the two players at all. I'll probably catch a lot of stick, but Moreno would be a big statement of intent.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - A "statement of intent" eh?

Yeah, it's early, idk why I said that, it would be a great signing in a spot we need cover in.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we get Moreno then I think Brad Smith should be bumped up to first team as well. He has the physical attributes, got pace he just needs that with the first team to mature a little and feel apart of the first team, same goes for McLaughlin we know johnson isn't going to stay fit whole season and to only have 1 back up right back isn't wise. kelly should get his chance to impose himself as a CB.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Haych. I wanna promote the youth more!

Agree0 Disagree0

I would think it is a very poor deal is Suso is include in a permanent deal for Moreno.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 14:26:14
Eds, I have 2 questions for you's.
1.) what's the RB situation like T the club? Are we likely to sign someone to fill that starting position, will Johnson keep it, or will Flanagan swap sides when we bring in a left back?
2.) Although everyone loves Stevie G, do you think he will be a regular starter next season, or will his long term replacement be signed and played regularly in the first team this season?

Thanks,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - (1) I am only aware of one right back being looked at in recent months and I very much doubt it is a priority. (2) I have not decided how many games I will play Gerrard in next season just yet.}

Hi Redhead, I was looking at my crystal ball there and I see that Johnson will still be 1st choice next season but he will be under more pressure to perform. Stevie G will start approximately 75% of our matches.

You're welcome, Sean

hey Ed's,

with city heavily linked to benatia and the player admitting he is unsure, I wonder why we haven't approached. surely we should invest big money in our defence. lovren is 20m+ and surely benatia is worth the extra money on top.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Try not to simply make numbers up. You need to write to the club and asked why they have not yet bought Benatia for you.}

Like we invested big money last season?after signing 3cbs and a goalkeeper we still looked poor defensively.
I think rodgers needs to look at his coaching rather than buy more centerbacks.Maybe he should consider bringing another assistant to work with the defense

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 14:07:06
hey Ed's,

sky reporting the moreno bid, assuming that suso is a loan for a year. if this goes through do you imagine that we will look to buy two advanced players such as lallana and shaqiri or just one?

I thought we were going to buy one but have suso, the thinking must be that itll be better for development of suso to play regularly. what are your thoughts on the moreno bid and us and how suso going affects our prep for next season?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Clubs do not buy players to replace others whilst on loan - economically that makes no sense.}

Its a player plus cash deal not a loan.

Got to say this bid for Moreno looks genuine. A lot of different media sources are now reporting it, all with a very similar fee (£16m or €20m). Only difference is some are saying Suso on loan others are saying Suso as a player exchange.
Will be happy if Liverpool do sign someone for this problem position.

Only problem for me is that Jon Flanagan did so well to make that position his, I mean he's gome to the World Cup as back up having being no where near the first team this time last year. He has never really looked uncomfortable at Left Back and has been really consistent. Will be a shame if the lad loses his position in the first XI without ever putting a foot wrong. Hopefully we will see him start taking over RB.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - You realise they are simply repeating the same story?}

The ed is correct.

Real journalists get to where the story is happening aiming to find out real truths and getting real sources with access to dealings to divulge what they know.

Most online 'media sources' are just stories made up by unpaid aspiring writers repeating what they read online. This not journalism, even if these types call themselves journalists.

There is no merit to the vast, vast majority of media online.

That said; The Guardian is about as good as it gets really, as long as the report is stand-alone.

Their daily gossip section is what they say it is. Gossip.

I hope we sign Moreno too, but a long way to go yet in negotiations, and there is a lot of interest in him.

Finally, I don't think Flanagan has 'not put a foot wrong'.

He has done admirably, yes. Particularly as he's been playing out of position too.

But at times he has been overrun and exposed; to the extent that he has been targeted by the opposition in some games.

His positioning needs work, he has been lucky to get away with some overly rash decision-making and challenges at times this season.

He still has a lot to learn, and this 'RedCafu' twitter-campaign, whilst being a laugh at first, is pretty ridiculous.

Flanagan is a good backup, and again, he has done well, but if he wasn't a local lad there wouldn't be the same type of support for him that seems oblivious to his weaknesses.

If he earns a place in the first XI it should be on merit though, and he hasn't done enough to convince that he should start. At times BR has even hauled him off early in games as he has struggled at times.

It is for these reasons, I feel we definitely need to sign a top-quality left-back.

(Enrique is a decent option, but is injury prone)

I agree with Anfeld Andy however, in that I hope to see Flanno challenge Johnson at RB next season. It's his natural position and I hope he can settle there. Perhaps playing at RB is the most likely place for him to succeed at LFC.

As it is, his versatility and ability to play both sides to a decent standard is good for the depth of the squad, and I hope he can continue to improve. I like the guy and his progress so far has been astonishing, but he's far from the finished article.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with you (SuarezisaGenius) on Flanagan and it's nice to read somebody who hasn't gotten carried away with him. He's a local lad, an extremely hard worker and he's as committed as anyone could be. Slightly lacking compared to top quality but has great potential. I too think he has been targeted at times and then at other times I've looked at some of his tackles with my jaw dropping. He can lunge two footed and full blooded at the half way line to give away a throw - close to a zero danger situation and, imo, risking a red card. As a hard worker and a good listener I'm sure he'll listen to BR and improve in this area, amongst others. Great to have him, a good option.

Agree0 Disagree0

I personally feel letting Cissokho go, bringing in Moreno to challenge Enrique and letting Johnson and Flanagan battle it on the right is the best business we could do this summer for our defense. You have Wisdom likely supplementing CB/RB, Kelly is coming back, and potentially Ilori, in addition to Agger/Skrtel/Sakho. unless one of them is going, or an obvious improvement is available, we don't need a CB IMO

Alberto Moreno is a Top player, and would cost any club a Top figure. He would indeed solve our LB issues for the next 10 years, with him and Shaqiri/Sterling, would be devastating.
But Not at the Expense of Suso. Y not Alberto?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Maybe Sevilla don't want Alberto back or are insisting on Suso? Use some common sense Harry. Even if we don't want Alberto for the future, and we don't know that is the case, we can't just use him in a deal if the other club aren't interested!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The one thing for certain is that they will not be "insisting" on Suso if he has indeed been offered.}

I feel pretty sure Suso has no future with us. I don't deny he is talented but I just don't think he's mentally capable. As Rodgers would put it - "not enough fight". Just a personal opinion though

Agree0 Disagree0

If we lose Suso I'll cry.

Selling him would be a massive mistake imo. Sensational talent.

If we sold Suso and then signed Lallana for the reported £25m. I think I might throw up.

If the £16m and Suso on loan rumours for Moreno are true then although I would be very happy with the deal (I think Moreno is a quality player) I can't help but think that Suso may never get the chance to prove himself under Rodgers. I appreciate he is still a very young player and more experience is only a good thing for him but surely this summer would be perfect for him to prove himslef if Rodgers really believes in him?

Also, you mentiones interest from Spain in Alberto - probably on loan. Are Sevilla interested in re-signing him? Because if they are then surely it would make more sense to offer him on loan than Suso?

Hey ed's.
Last summer we weren't guaranteed top 4 this season, and we came under some criticism about how we went about transfers, such as bidding way under what teams valued their players at. Next year we have champions league but it seems this year already a few teams havn't been happy at the bids we have out forward. I'm just wondering from your opinion, and knowledge of our transfers, are we actin the same as last year, and if so how much damage can this do for us going forward? For example the lallana situation, us offering 10 million less then they want, would that then affect any bids for other players like loveren?
Cheers in advance,
Joey

Just read a post from Waltondave, it's all about opinions dave, but for me allen is an average player, worth only a fraction of the fee we payed for him.

I played football at a decent amatuer standard for years and have been a season ticket holder for 31years 5 of which I was a steward at the club, andi wouldn't mention allen in the same breath as Ronnie Whelan, does this mean i'm an expert? NO! Does this mean i'm clueless for having my opinion on allen? NO! It is what it is dave, an opinion, but you sound like your in danger of dissappearing up your own arse lad, but again it's your opinion and your entitled to it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hey Waro.

Did someone here compare Allen to Ronnie Whelan!!!

That is truly ridiculous. Truly.

Ronnie Whelan was a colossal player. He had it all. Ian Rush reckons he was one of the best midfielders in Europe throughout the 80's, and I'd have to agree.

I like Allen, but when people make silly comments like comparing Allen to Whelan, it is hard to take their opinions seriously.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 22:16:37
The comparison was not like for like. WaltonDave basically said that there are some attributes which a footballer has which fans do not get excited about. The unseen things which Henderson has been praised throughout the season for doing.
He said that Allen was similar in a way to Whelan in that he does a lot of the unseen work and is viewed as a cog in the well oiled machine and not the World Class Superstar like Suarez. Every team needs them.
I don't think he actually said that Allen was as good as Whelan but if I am wrong then I'll hold me hands up!
Would not be the first time hey Ed002:)

Going by reports Liverpool seem to be targeting:

GK: Vorm
CB: Lovren
LB: Moreno
DM CM: Can
RW LW AM: Lallana
RW LW: Shaqiri

Opinions?

I'd forget Lovren and keep Agger and Skrtel. I also wouldn't buy Can as I don't really think he is what Liverpool need right now. Is love to see Sanchez signed at the expense of Lallana.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We absolutely do need can type player . An imposing centre midfielder who can play in other positions at the back or through midfield . That was the difference to us and city last season . i'm not saying can is an equal to toure but a type of player like him is essential . Lucas wasnt it ( not critical of him as he's had some bad injuries) . We need a top strong midfielder in front of the back 4 .

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to say mate I disagree, would rather Lovren partner Sakho and sell either Skrtel or Agger - possibly both depending on the situation with Ilori.

I think Can would be good, we need a midfielder who can cover for Gerrard with defensive responsibilities but he's also versatile and more mobile.

Would be happy with any of; Shaqiri, Sanchez or Lallana tbh.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know much about Can but I agree with RobInRed on the centre back position. I'd be happy with a 1st choice pairing of Lovren and Sakho, selling possibly both Skrtel and Agger. We'd still have Ilori, Toure, Kelly, Wisdom. Coates will surely go as well and that should free up some more wages. If Can is able to cover CD as well then that's another plus for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we sold both skrtel and agger we would need to sign another young CB or give Coates another chance if we didn't get any acceptable bids for him.

Lovren, Sakho, Toure, Ilori, Kelly, Coates - would be acceptable.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Haych - you'd take Coates over Wisdom so. I wouldn't myself anyway. Coates has looked far too slow for the EPL when he played, a long time ago now but still. And I was delighted with his signing initially as I had seen him in the copa america and he was a beast but that was as part of a 3 man centre back partnership and it just doesn't look like he'll cut it in the EPL.

Either way we're talking about the 6th choice CB so I think that in itself should be enough reasons to say we wouldn't need to sign another.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 12:08:00
Perhaps I was being a little harsh :-).

I was getting wound up by the criticism of our transfer policy and the stressing about missing targets IN MAY! There's no need.
Some of these players are facing a month of highly competitive international football in searing heat. We don't know how they are going to stand up to that and you want us to punt 25-30 million pounds on them. Bear in mind they will have limited rest and pre- season due to the World Cup. Next season will be tough for players to integrate into a new team. Let's not shoot our load in May.
On Paul Stewart, like I say, maybe a tad harsh, but hear me out. Stewart was an effective player for Spuds at a similar age. So much so we blew a huge amount on him. He couldn't step up to a higher level and flopped. I see Lallana in the same way. He doesn't have the right attributes to get a starting place in our team for me and therefore I would value him in the 10-15m pound bracket. So'ton won't sell for that, so we move on. He will crumble under the expectation of a massive fee. He's not an elite level player, he's decent. We have other priorities I believe.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Lallana is a very good player, but like you say, no way are Soton going to sell for the fee you quote.

We seem to be on the fence with this one, but again, like you say, it is only May and plenty of time to get a deal done.

My feeling is that we will have to overpay for him and I rather look elsewhere. For example, Xherdan Shaqiri.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you've got a point there Ken. Nonetheless, I still think our transfer policy stinks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Make your mind up which side of the fence your on AG, it was only last week you were saying it was good to be prudent, now your saying we should over pay on transfers.

Agree0 Disagree0

My apologies AG, I didn't read your post in full, specifically the bit about the cheaper alternative to Lallana.

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly Ken I remember them days very well. I think Lallana is a very good player but we already have very good players at senior level and ready to break through.

It is still only May but I would like our dealings done early. Though we should not pay over the odds. If we can get 3 or 4 players in who are going to push for a starting place I'll be happy. Which is exactly what will happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ken, paul stewart was an england international and playing with some very good players at spurs i.e mabbutt, gascoigne, nayim & lineker so I wouldn't say the step up he couldn't handle because that's rubbish…. Basically he enjoyed the better wage and the more nightlife which let him down @ Liverpool

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry everyone, this was meant as a reply to the Lallana thread below (where I compared him to Paul Stewart).

Agree0 Disagree0

More nightlife in Liverpool than London? If you say so Chiswick.

Liverpool need a confident, pacey left winger that can put an outstanding ball into the box. Raheem has of course been mouth-watering this season but when it comes to crosses I think he is lacking. Are we looking at any left-wingers? Also, DM is of course a major concern and I think we seriously missed out on Fernando in January, any chance of him coming?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Konoplyanka, Shaqiri, Fischer, Tello and Tadic are all players who can play comfortably on the left and have been of interest.

I don't think a DM is a major concern. With Gerrard and Lucas there, we have no real need for a DM; however Emre Can has been looked at and is of interest.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 11:04:58
I hear Townsend could be available for 8m . at the beginning of the season he looked like a star. great pace shot and work ethic . feel he would fit into our system and not over priced . what do you think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 May 2014 13:01:09
Shot???/. To the stands.
Work Ethic?. Run all day from one end to another.
He is massively Overrated.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he's available because he's not much good. One of the most over-rated players in the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Townsend is a poor player and if we bid 8 million, it will be a waste of 8 million pounds.

Agree0 Disagree0

I said he would be a good addition a few weeks ago. We don't need a first choice winger as we have Raheem. Imagine having a player like Townsend available to come off the bench when the opposition are tiring, or to come in for cup games or when Sterling is rested. He would be a great squad player to have who has the potential to become world class under the correct management.

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought that before his injuries last season he had all the raw attributes essential to becoming a top winger, with both his England appearances springing to mind. However since then he's not even been able to get into a struggling Tottenham side ahead of Lennon and Chadli, which makes you wonder if he really is as good as he appeared. Having said that he did have injury problems and is the type of player who I believe BR could get playing to his best, but at £8m+ I think we would be best sticking to our current targets as he probably wouldn't be first choice.

Agree0 Disagree0

Guys instead of buying loads of players I hope we keep the core of the squad together. I know we need a few new signings but we don't need wholesale changes when we finished second in the hardest league in the world. I for one want to see some kids given the chance in some games. All I ever see in this site is questions about random players who the eds have to say we have no interest in. I'm sure even Rodgers has not heard of half of the players we have been linked with. All I want to see is maybe three quality players who don't cost the earth and help to improve what is already a competitive team. We don't need world class players for silly money we just need players who can slot right in to the system we play. I don't care if they come from a team in the champions league or the championship as long as they improve what we already have. Some people do not even know how good some of our academy players are and if we sign loads of players it will not help their development.

Mig needs to command his area a bit better, but with the first season over him I expect him to get better look at de gea at utd he looked like a u 12 playing senior football in his first season at utd, I think Brendan needs to settle his defence a bit and stop all this changing that's going on as for mig I feel his shot stopping is up with the best in the world I wouldn't be too hasty loosing this keeper I think we would regret it.

Mignolet's shot stopping has been excellent this season. He isn't as good with his feet as Reina which doesn't suit our style of play, but he's still very young. I don't think he's had a bad season at all. The defence is meant to protect the keeper, and ours hasn't done that this season, I can't think of many goals conceded that were Simon's fault? Look at De Gea, his first season was awful, flapping about in his oversized shirt. Looking at him now he's turning into a decent keeper. It's also interesting that if you look around at the reaction from seville fans none are too upset about moreno leaving if they get suso in the deal. I think we'd be insane to let suso go.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would be seriously pissed with Rodgers if we are actually willing to pay 20m euros along with Suso for Moreno.
Moreno I think is a top notch LB, but Suso will be a world beater in a couple of years. If its a loan, then it s agood deal for us. If its a permanent transfer, then we have gotten mugged good and proper by Sevilla.

But offer such a deal, Irrespective of the outcome is pure blunder.

Agree0 Disagree0

If it's a loan then ni problem as we may have two new CM's this summer
but selling would be nuts

Agree0 Disagree0

Suso part is a loan, will be good to get him experience competing at a higher level in a quality squad & play in European competition.

Agree0 Disagree0

The Suso part is not a loan from what I've read. As far as I can make out we (allegedly) have offered £16m plus Suso. now, if true, this is bound to make many LFC supporters unhappy but truth be told Suso will not sit waiting for a chance at Liverpool and he is unlikely to become a regular for at least another two years as we have talent in (and coming through) that area of the field. Moreno represents an improvement over what we have as he has ability to play all along the left flank.

Agree0 Disagree0

However Suso only has 1 year left on his contract. So unless he signs a new one, any loan this summer is effectively a goodbye and a free transfer for someone!
Pity he has the potential to be a great player but BR doesn't want him!

Agree0 Disagree0

From what I've read it was definitely a loan

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you sure he's only got 1 year left? He signed a "long-term" contract in 2012.

Agree0 Disagree0

A loan makes no sense unless he signs a new contract this summer with us. His contract expires in 2015 and so a loan without extension is giving him away for nothing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Really hope it is just a loan for suso

this kid is the real deal

we would definately regret letting him go

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2014 17:41:02
Suso has one year left on his contract I believe. As Ed002 has said many times he would want assurances about playing time before penning a new deal. He won't get them. IMO a technically gifted player but one who lacks pace and an ability to influence games on a consistent basis. Of course that may come and I wouldn't be against agreeing a new contract and loaning him to Sevilla with a view to a place in the squad in another seasons time. We have Texeira and Luis Alberto (who has more goals in him) so perhaps Suso is viewed as expendable.

Each to their own, I suppose, but those who voted no on the Joe Allen poll really need to have a word with themselves. I fear it's the football manager brigade who wouldn't know a good player if they fell over one.

I think he will forever suffer from Ronnie Whelan syndrome. Which just confirms to me that there will always been a section of fans who know tiddlywinks about football.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As you say Walton Dave, each to their own but I totally disagree with you.
I feel like I have a pretty good eye for a player and whilst I admire Joe's enthusiasm and determination there are so many aspects of his game that I feel are just not good enough.
He cannot shoot whatsoever, his long passing is non existent, he shows no composure when he gets a chance in front of goal, although he hustles and harries players well, he is very lightweight in the tackle, but perhaps most infuriating for me whilst watching him is his lack of ambition on the ball. He never looks for a defence splitting pass, instead choosing to pass back to a defender or laterally (now I know this keeps play moving but if there's an opportunity to create a chance, he should look to take it).
I think he seems like a good guy and a decent young player, I hope he can improve on all these aspects of his game, but for now he is not an integral part of our team.
Also Dave just because others may not agree with you try refrain from assuming it's because we're all championship manager fans.

words not mine, now RODGERS has got
has got the new PIRLO playing in that
position, if JOE ALLAN was so good
surely he'd be back in ahead of a 33yr old with no legs.

Correct JASON, very correct.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe he is a player who is there to hustle and harrie and show a lots of enthusiasm and keeps moving things along?

Not everybody is in the team to score plenty of goals like Suarez and Sturridge or open up the defense like Coutinho or Gerrard.

Walton Dave.

I disagree, You cannot complain someone's opinion on any player. He, like last season wouldn't be starting too many games next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on Walton Dave - it's good to see we have fans with a better eye for a footballer than Brendan, reckon he only paid £15 million for him because he thought he was average.

As Dave said - he could be described as our modern day Whelan, although I will admit he does need to add a few more goals to his game

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with you Walton Dave.
I think Allen gets extra stick because people see him as the managers love child.
Any excuse to have a go at the manager in my opinion.
Sad, when you consider that we just finished second.

Agree0 Disagree0

Allen will be grand backup for Henderson but I too hope to see his quality of passing & shooting improve next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just out of interest how many in this thread thought mascherano was good? Zero passing ability, never ventured forward, complete liability, yet many loved him because "he ran around a lot"

Allen in my opinion is not amazing but he is tasked worth the same thankless work that lucas has been, interceptions and recycled possession. I think many are still coloured by the comments on MOTD. Yes he does not play splitting 40 yard passes but then neither do many other players, including Xavi. He has some potential and he works hard with his head down despite receiving public and fan criticism, that kind of mental toughness is what made lucas, and Henderson a success.

He probably wouldn't start in my midfield either at present but I don't think he warrants the criticism he constantly gets.

O & the poll did ask if he was 'vital squad player' and since I think he's a fine 2nd choice midfielder (depending on formation opposition) I said yes. No need to take a swipe at anyone who voted no though.

Agree0 Disagree0

The same things were said by most Liverpool fans about Henderson before he proved them wrong. Allen is a very good footballer and well worth his place in our squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

What we've got to look at as well is his form prior to Liverpool when the chap went on some incredible dribbles and played eye of the needle balls and scored some goals so it's not like he can't do it. since he joined what's his longest stretch in the first team been? I doubt it would be over 10 games apart from maybe when he first joined and was only settling in. if any midfielder got injured for 5 or 6 games I think Allen could keep them out of the team as he definitely has all the attributes in him. so saying he can't play 40 yard passes etc when he did a couple of years ago regularly enough is a bit off to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

100% agree with Jason and RedKev.

Walton did you read the question in the poll 'vital' squad member?

I voted No because I think he's a decent player and a decent member of the squad but he's by no means vital, imo. A vital squad member and we wouldn't have noticed Henderson's suspension at the end of the season. And ya maybe you should read the poll before slating people for voting on their own opinions - voting No didn't mean people necessarily think he's sh*t.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I don't believe Joe allen is a good footballer. If you can only do the simple things right in football you are not a great footballer. He can't spray the ball around, he has no pace or strenght and he can't score goals, on numerous occassions he has been in perfect positions in front of goal and he's has ballooned it. I would like the people who think joe allen is such a good player to our squad what other strong team in europe has a player of his ability in their midfield? I wouldn't say any because he doesn't do much else but hassle and harrie. henderson does this plus much more. if joe alen is as good as people claim if he was placed for sale by the club how much of the £15 million we spent would we retreive back, I doubt even 50%

Agree0 Disagree0

How can you criticise him? He never gets a run of games.
I've never thought of him as being good enough to start for LFC and he has done nothing in 2 seasons to make me eat my words.
To be honest, he's too limited. He wouldn't get a regular game for any of the top 4 and most of the top half of the premiership. It's nothing against him as a lad, but he's just a very limited footballer.
I think he was a panic buy by Brendan, like all the others in his first summer - Yesil, Assaidi, Borini, Sahin, Allen. Perhaps we gave him too big a budget to start with.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think the same things were said about Hendo. Hendo had quality, he was just inconsistent and lacking in confidence. Before Kenny signed Hendo, he was being courted by Fergie. I don't recall anyone lining up to sign Allen before we did.

Agree0 Disagree0

Respect and completely understand most peoples views about Allen.

I however disagree with most of you and rate Allen very highly.

I get the feeling that next season we will be see a slightly different style of play - I think someone in between the possession football we played in Rodgers' first season with quite a high line and the dynamic football we played last.

I think this will really help some players - Allen, Lucas, Johnson and Suarez, but will maybe make it a bit more difficult for Sturridge, Enrique, Skrtel and especially Sterling.

Watch Allen when we don't have the ball. He's our best player for tracking back when we lost the ball. Even better than Henderson. I also disagree with the lighweight thing. It was an issue when he had problems with his shoulder but since that was fixed he is very fiesty in the tackle and wins more often than not.

Certainly needs to work on his shooting but has shown real desire to get on the end of things. I think if he could get confidence in front of goal it will be the makings of a great player because he gets in there.

Best of all, this player has fight and desire to improve. And is young. Never complains. He has my full support and knowing this type of character, I not only wish him to succeed, I know he'll succeed.

Patience!!!

Well eds and fellow reds I think its pretty clear now that we can say bye bye to lallana to lfc because with spurs now involved we are almost certain to lose out to them just like b4 we obviously don't rate him as highly as soton do but spurs will come in and the asking price making us look weak in the market again and yet we could end up. With bolasiei just hate getting my heart set on a player coming and then it never coming off eg willian, mktaryian, kono and salah not bitter just don't understand our policy he is meant to be our top target yet once again we trying to get em on the cheap so frustrating sorry for the rant.p.s eds you said that if we make another offer for lallana it could involve a player which player do you believe would make soton wanna sell thanks a lot for all the work

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I am actually the opposite. I am glad we try to get players for as cheap as we can and won't pay stupid prices. If we can't agree on value, we shouldn't pay over what we value the player at and the selling team shouldn't sell to us. Our policy has served us well so far. Yes, we have missed out on some players that could have been hits, but possibly flops as well. We already have a good squad and I don't see the need to spend silly money on one player. If anything last season should have shown us that we need to have a little faith in the systems and policies that the board and coaching staff are implementing.

Agree0 Disagree0

So you seem to care what Spurs do or think about us. Remind me where they finished again? If we did our business based on what other fans or clubs think, we would already be in administration languishing in League One. If Spurs want to pay 30m for Lallana then they can have him because as u said we don`t rate him that high. There are lots of 30m pound players but believe me when I tell you that Lallana AIN`T one of them. We almost won the league w/o paying over the odds for players so I reckon our system (which does need an overhaul) is globally working n btw, the TW hasn`t even opened yet and some fans are already whining about things that haven`t happened yet.

Redohio

Spot on. At 30 mill. let them or any club have him. I would personally drive him to WHL. there are many better players underrated and undervalued out there.

Agree0 Disagree0

If spurs get lallana? And its looking more likely down here! Do you honestly think levy will spend that? Probably £20 and a reserve player thrown in… someone like rose
