Thought Alan Hansen made a very good point about how players go well over the top with their reaction after nailing Suarez. Something really needs to be done over this nonsense that's cost us big time, and will cost us again if it ain't boxed off asap.

People still want to disagree with me over playing jones instead of reina?

Another mistake, he makes at least one every game. I'm just fed up of reina and his lack of passion

Benny baller

Did you see jones midweek? why replace a goalkeeper making mistakes but with exellent distribution with a goal keeper making mistakes with poor distributrion?

Get a grip. Lack of passion? What have you been watching? Certainly not our games if you think he lacks passion.
ND

To be fair, he was good in the first half.

Kaizer

So you didnt see the mistake Brad Jones made in his last game then? Or the shot-stopping by Reina against Norwich?
Reina has wobbled a bit in the last year but he is still light years ahead of Jones in terms of ability.

Ed just looking at MOTD here and Mark Halsey had another bad game today. How in the name of god did he get another prem game this weekend after his nightmare last week. He missed a clear peno for city and gave fulham a very bad peno just like last week and then the panel don't highlight his errors because they say he had a bad week. I think all these bad errors should be over highlighted as there is a lot of bad ref errors lately and they should be made to explain or be punish by not getting games for a few weeks. Sorry for the rant.

There was a post that Suarez don't pass cause he lacks confidence in his team. Lets look at his options from last season Adam Carroll Henderson Downing Lucas....Lucas is an excellent tackler & we all know how important he is to our team but there was no one for him to really run with.

Ed is cole injured or just ery out of favour?
Thanks {Ed002's Note - He is injured.}

Does it matter if he is injured or out of favour? He's going. He serves no purpose at Anfield and never has. RED LENIN

30 Sep 2012 00:46:23
Just can't see any place in the starting 11 for Cole at the moment.Third choice at best. He's got to move just to get playing time in a first team for the sake of whats left of his career.

REDBILL 16

Joe cole is a good lad he wanted to do well and tried too hard got sent off and then got injured.

So looks like BR has decided who is going to be part of his squad and whose not...

I'm not going to slate players etc... but to me the following look like they will be out the door (buyer's/price being acceptable):

Joe Cole (probably free/mutual (hopefully) freeing up around 4.5m a year (90k per week)).

Enrique - not sure on the price - if Newcastle they will probably say bite the bullet give him us on a free blah blah - but hopefully 4 or 5m.

Downing - back to Villa? who knows - hope we get at least 8m for him.

Out on Loan - Spearing (hey i wont say he's crap he does what he does, not his fault if he's not as good as the rest) 3m

Carroll - hopefully 17m.

Now i'm not going to speculate who we could get etc.. but what i would say is those players leaving would not effect our 1st 11 - the squad yes but not the 1st 11.

If the owners allow a £30m budget + sales from the above and we replace them with 4 or 5 players deemed to fir into BR's system/philosophy then things are looking good in the future (and the wage bill would look healthy as well.

I've been impressed with the way we've played this season (remember 2 seasons ago under Hodgson - the brand of football made us want him out). Football is about results however I'm pleased with what BR is doing, i'm also impressed with the players - they need to be sold this way and most are buying into it.

I don't know what will happen this season; what i do know is that young players will get a chance and also young players will want to join us because they get a chance (that might make a difference to the next big thing).

The next 5 years are going to be an interesting time.

Suarez had a brilliant game today loved the set up of two young wingers in raheem and suso even tho suso aint a out n out winger hes jus soo classy on ball wana see sterling shootin more often too but brilliant game,,, wisdom was brilliant too hope hes 1 of our future centre backs coz he has everythin wana see ngoo given a chance on thursday
Basy

Suso seems to be the same type of player as iniesta, can play in the gap between the attack and mid but can do a job out wide. very good player imo

700 odd passes in today's game by Liverpool. Fantastic, it set a record.
Lee73

Be nice if you said which record it broke.

My guess is a passing record

30 Sep 2012 02:46:51
734 - Liverpool made 734 passes today, which is the most by #LFC in the history of PL.We also had 67% of pos.Tiki-taka

I think that reina will move on in the summer, he is making far 2 many mistakes which are being punished. Ed's do you think mandanda of marsielle would be a viable option ?, if not who do you think could replace him in the future ?.

Nuri sahin is really starting to show his true class.I hope he decides to stay with us at the end of the season.Suso is another quality and very gifted young player, who is a breath of fresh air.

If Real Madrid can show initiative to place him in the starting XI, he won't stay.

Reina need taking out the firing line for a while. He just looks like he's lost all his confidence.Time to give brad jones a few games.I belive the club will try and sign a keeper in january,as the amount of mistakes reina is making is getting ridiclious.

He has gone downhill since xavi valero left and the lack of competition has made him complacent!

As Bane said to Batman "Victory has cost you your strength". Alright, so I'm stretching the analogy a bit...but you get the point....

Mantis.

On Irish radio during the week the former Leeds midfielder Johnny Giles seems to think that Reina's nerve is gone and reckons that when this happens to a keeper it is very hard for them to recover. Also said he is surprised as keepers usually keep getting better with age citing Brad Friedel as an example. He also said that goalkeeper is, of all positions, the one where you simply cannot keep an under performing player indefinitely as it is just too costly when he keeps on making mistakes.

Anyway it is sad to see Pepe playing so badly and hopefully he will snap out of it.

Mantis,

Just watching today's game again and without wanting to sound negative we are still giving teams encouragement by the way we play it about around our own box. The possession is great but the teams that are best at it keep possession in the opposition half not their own. Same thing applies to Allen, sure he keeps the ball superbly in the first third but if he's to be compared to Xavi or Iniesta then he needs to do it in the final third.
That said it is early days and hopefully we can improve a lot through the season and its looking promising

Allen is playing where Busquets plays. When Lucas is back, he will be able to push further forward.

If Lucas was in the team I'm sure we'd see some more creativity from Allen. As it is I'm more then happy for him to continue being the man when it comes to ball retention.
JohnBoy

If Lucas was in the team, we'd be letting less goals in too!

Keith

We cant have 3 creative midfielders all pushing forward therefor allen has to sit back untill lucas is back

A question i m wondering, where would Lucas play if Allen - Sahin - Gerrard continue to play the way they played yesterday especially with Shelvey on the bench and will be back after the game against Stoke?

BR must be loving this conundrum even in such a thin squad as ours.

I have said a few times that downing's time is up at liverpool, now the manager has pretty much confirmed that unless there's a huge turn around in his form he will be off in january.I just cant see how he can get back in the team, ahead of sterling, assaidi, suso, theire just simply better players.I also belive pepe reina wont be with us much longer either,he is a shadow of his former self.

Downing is unlikely to be sold in January.

29 Sep 2012 21:12:36
I think my favourite goal today was Sahin's one. It was a good team goal, with Suarez not going for a hatrick but passing it not once but twice. Suarez also didn't go down from the contact first time which is good to see and Sahin is proving to be a bit of a fox in the box wit two goals like this in two games.

Jolly Red

I like the look on Norwich fans faces after they laughed at Luis for his miss. 10 seconds later he was celebrating his second goal.
I just can't get enough :)

In one of my posts,i said i thought we were going to give someone a real beating, and today norwich got it!.Although i was delighted with the 5 goals and all round attacking performance,im really worried about the amount of goals were letting in.Maybe rodgers would be wise to bring in a defensive coach, just too try and cut out the silly mistakes we keep making.

Was thinking exactly the same thing, defensive coach is needed. We were so unorganized at the back today!

As I've said before, I don't care to a large extent if we let in goals, as long as we get more at the other end and still win the match! Clean sheets are nice, but you can win the league with all our matches ending 2-1 in our favour, at the end of the day!

End of the day, we are scoring goals and that's a big plus for me and the goals are coming from more players now too! Can we class Suarez as a finisher now?;)

Last 4 games......

Young boys. 3 - 5 Liverpool
Liverpool. 1 - 2 mutd
WBA. 1 - 2 Liverpool
Norwich. 2 - 5 Liverpool

3 wins and 1 loss

13 goals scored - 8 conceded

The tide seems to be turning keep the faith reds, BR knows what he's doing. Averaging 3 goals scored a game and conceding 2 per game. It's now time to tighten up at the back BR to sprinkle some of his magic at the back.

Wizards sleeve.

And the mancs were lucky

29 Sep 2012 21:02:35
Don't wanna take shine off today because we were excellent, but personally I'd be bringing Coates on instead of Camera and even think of starting him before Skrtel. Between him and Pepe were gifting teams at least a goal-a-game which really has to stop. Make sure teams have to really graft to break us down like it seems teams do to us. Coates has impressed in every game I've seen him play for us. Like I said brilliant today but nit picking I'd like us to be a bit tighter at the back.

29 Sep 2012 21:00:01
Continued progression of performance from last season, but without the near misses and hitting the post. Good to see the old guard are finally putting it together where it matters. Don't bring in any more wannabes BR the quality strikers made the goals today.

Would a second striker- like a Dempsey- make a difference against the bigger teams. One of either Gerrard or Suarez are bound to be missing for 4-6 games at some point, leaving a hole.

But BR please stop whining to the refs it looks poor. Best not to do it so publicly, on the back of the documentary it comes across painfully.

30 Sep 2012 01:03:16
What's the difference between BR moaning about referees and Wenger and Ferguson doing the same?
They seem to have had some influence in the past regarding decisions changed in their favour in later games. Definate penalty on Suarez today so perhaps BR is not moaning enough?

Is it me or has Reina really lost form? As much as I like him, I'm starting to fear that he will cost us more points this season. Norwich's first goal should have been saved.

29 Sep 2012 20:09:50
Thought Suarez was unplayable today..a genius at work well done Luis outstanding son. RED RUSS

Its just amazing how he ca knock a ball through someones legs so many times

29 Sep 2012 20:09:32
It's a concern that's hardly gone unnoticed this season which was also evident last season which I'm sure BR will already be making plans for after another inept performance today, I'm talking about Teflon Pepe Riena's dramatic loss of form.

It's hardly a secret that Reina was very vocal about BR appointment instead preferring a return of Benitez instead. Whatever is going on in Reina's head, many say that the selling of Torres to Chelsea was the straw that broke the camels back. Whatever it is its clear to most that Reina is not the Reina he once was.

I honestly believe this is Reina's last season with us and I feel Reina as set his heart on a move back to Spain next summer. I think it would be a shame if he left as I rate him as one of the best in the business when he's on his game. BR is a fantastic man management person, if BR can't motivate Reina no one can.

Reina's mistake today for the first goal was clear for all to see that it's now becoming a regularity, he no longer as the confidence he once had and I feel all our defenders know this that's why we are conceding goals in all games.

It's a shame As Reina as been such a great player for us, but if his heart is no longer in it for the reds then its time for a change which I'm sure BR will almost certainly be planning for....

Curled1

Just think he needs to stop formula 1.driving for ferrari seems to be his main priority these days, who does he think he is, pretending to have hair.

Maybe if Lloris in still unhappy and not playing come January, we could snap him up as Pepe's long-term replacement. I know that's very early to be making an extremely important transfer decision, but I cannot remember a keeper lose confidence so quickly for such a long time, once again today. Its now our most serious team problem.

Pepe will go down as one of the great keepers in the Premier League era, and before his reputation is damaged anymore he should look at a new challenge. Its such a shame, he's the best keeper LFC has had in the last 20 years. I am trying to be as respectful towards him as possible for his commitment to our team over 7 years, but surely enough is enough.

Every time the ball is played back to him now everyone's eyes are watching nervously. Everyone needs to stop pretending this is a 'bad patch' of form, and I hope Brendan has courage to make a decision on this soon. If think 2 keepers may need to come in, one as an understudy to the new GK, with Ward/Belford competing for the 3rd GK spot (Jones and Doni to go).
RC

29 Sep 2012 22:32:14
In relation to the many posts about Reina, consider the Benitez and Torres factors, but also consider that 2 seasosn ago he was asked to stay 1 more year - which I honestly believe that he had thought the likes of Malaga or Arsenal would come in for him - however with Malaga's finaicial meltdown and the emergency of the young polish lad, (wasn't gonna try and spell his name). He's desperate for chamions league football, so I reckon he'll be Italy bound next year.

Liverpool are contemplating of replacing their current manager Brendan Rodgers and Marcello Lippi is rumored to be one of the top candidates, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

Although the Reds would prefer Roy Hodgson, he might be unavailable should he continue to take charge of the national team.

Alongside Lippi, former Internazionale coach Rafa Benitez is also listed among the top suitors.

Liverpool have had a dismal start to their season, picking only two point from their first five games.

Not been on this site for a bit as all the negativity was just far too depressing by some so called fans, however a couple of wins and 'hey presto' everyone is on a high and i just spent 30 mins trawling through posts since the wba win and its like a different site. Even though we lost a couple of games during a tough fixture period you can't deny we were playing a better brand of football than the results showed. My point is, keep the faith, the future is bright under BR.

Great to see a manager finally pick a team based purley on form. Wisdom instead of Enrique, sterling instead of Downing and Suso instead of Henderson.
Dalglish will always be the man but he stuck with underperforming players for too long last season and it affected the team because we knew what we were going to get from them and so did the opposition.
Hope Borini is on the bench for the next game because his recent performances dont warrant a starting place although I do think he will come good in the end.

Jay

At this rate, we will see in form card for both Suarez and Sahin

I want IF suarez!!!!!

What do you mean? suso was in as a winger and hendo has niether started regularly, nor played poorley when he has played.
derryred

Some people just have a go at players like Henderson for nowt. If they knew a little iddy bit about footy they'd realise Henderson has been very good when played, not the most spectacular of players but does the simple things really well and grafts his bollox off. Good player to have on the bench for sure.

hi edds great result today i hopr its the first of many i no some of the edds belive we dont need to sign anyone due to how good the kids are but i think we could do with just 2 signings a quality left back maybe bastos and also a striker and i beleve then we could realy move forward thoughts edds cheers

mike {Ed001's Note - Bastos is not what I would call a quality left back, I would rather have Downing there myself. I think Johnson, Robinson and Downing + Agger are plenty of cover for left back. Striker is a different matter, we are light there, but we do have such a strong youth team, it would need to be a top class striker or not at all.}

Just because bastos is good in fifa. i agree with the ed a striker is a priority, however i would also like a new goal keeper and for reina to go, only if theres a good available keeper but.

Some of you guys who have posted about how Sterling played today and theirs been a few. You ought to hang your head in shame having a go at a 17 year old who's been nowt but a breath of fresh air since Rodgers had the nuts to start him on a regular basis. He's young inconsistentsy can be a problem with youngsters, but it ain't hit Sterling yet. Let's hope it never does for a while yet. Moanin for sake of it
JohnBoy

Get over yourself already. No one's having a go at Sterling- worst of it was 'he looked a bit lazy' (which is true) or he didn't have his best game (also true). No one's thrashing the lad- just fairly I think pointing out that his effort in the 1st half was not quite there, but the 2nd half was much improved.

No read the posts no name. You've just explained your assessment of his performance, and pretty crummy it was too. I didn't read words like you just wrote or even words to that effect. That's it lad build em up then knock em down, leave the lad alone for now full stop
JohnBoy

Yeah but he still created a goal. If he had done that in his first appearance we would have been saying why haven't we played him before now. We have to be a little careful that we dont build him up to knock him down. Dont forget this is a young man just out of school, you cant expect him to set the world alight every game he plays its just not fair.

I Hate it it looks cheap with the tribal pattern. Hutch

We should always wear red when we can and the refs should wear black not red

29 Sep 2012 17:49:48
Delighted with the result. Suso's passing is magical. That defense though is scaring me. I think it needs some more work.
Andrew

Totally agree with the defense comment, if Norwich can cause us so many problems then the bigger teams will punish us even more. Thought Wisdom had a great game but Reina is getting more and more unreliable and Skrtel's mistake was similar to his early season form (West Brom defeat?). Would like to see more protection from the midfield for the back four so opposition players can't run at our back line so easily.

Jay

29 Sep 2012 17:39:11
Seriously hate the way liverpool played for the last 30mins against Norwich. They are too arrogant with all that possesion football in their own half. Though they played well in the first half to have a good cushion, that does not mean they should put their legs of the accelerator and play all the dangerous backpasses in their own half which have resulted in mistakes that lead to the two goals. They should remember that goal difference counts at the end of the season. Even the midfeild and forwards are interested in attacking with back passing after reaching the final third. Boring boring boring for a liverpool fan. {Ed052's Note - Mate, we had scored 5, and after scoring that many, you have the right to be arogant on the ball. It swelled possession and passing too}

The reason the youngsters fit in so well so quickly is because they aren't scared. They know if they make a mistake that their manager isn't going to destroy them after the game. The players are encouraged to take chances and be aggressive all the time. Is this going to lead to some bad goals being allowed? Yeah, but overall it will lead the team to be attacking and positive and the overall affect will be great for us.

Boring boring boring for a Liverpool fan? Did you watch the same game as everyone else? It was a great performance, 5 goals scored, three young lads from the academy starting and Suarez finding the net consistently. Clean sheet would have been nice but getting the first win was the main thing, especially with two winnable home games coming up.

Jay

You are a boring boring Liverpool fan . You even said it yourself . Can't even leave a name .
Jamesy

We play exciting pass and move footie, we score 5 goals, we win our first league match, mighty Louis hits a hat trick, we play kids we've been demanding get game time
Then a complete muppet like you comes on with a boring boring comment?? Go back to school mate. Maybe they can educate you about football because I dont think i can!
Tommy

29 Sep 2012 17:31:06
Even with our struggles early in the season at least there has been a point to it. Young kids are getting time and experience, which should pay dividends down the road. As opposed to last year which was basically just a total waste.

Seems to me like when Borini comes back his role should be to back up Suarez for the most part. Sterling, Suso and Assaidi should divy up the time on the 2 wide forwards among the 3 of them.

Sahin is showing why 2 years ago he won Player of the Year in the Bundesliga. That's a really good league and to be named best player in the entire league is something special. I've said before between Sahin, Allen, Lucas and Shelvey we should be really good in midfield for quite a while. Hopefully we can make Sahin permanent. He's already expressed a desire for it to be permanent and with Madrid adding Modric it seems likely they would be willing to sell Sahin to us.

Lastly maybe not getting a forward in the summer was a blessing in disguise. Would have been great to add someone but unless it was going to be a star type player we may be better off. I mean what would we rather have Dempsey getting minutes or Suso who could be a star down the line?

Suso all the way, he's already better than Dempsey and when he's finished he'll be ten times better.

Quick question, when did Sahin express his desire to make the deal permanent? can you do a link
Cheers
Tommy

What really struck me was how seamless the kids have slotted in with the seniors, and my word! They played without fear, as if they've been in the first team forever! Wisdom and Sterling were awesome! Singred

finally a good result to match our good performance nice to see but a long way to go
side note still confused how people are rating rodgers good and bad based on what happens in one match Ive said it be4 and ill say it again we cannot judge rodgers performance at all untill were at least 10 games in

Think we should all get behind Rodgers, he has been consistent from day one. You can see the team developing each week and playing the passing game better and better. The last few weeks have been building up to the great performance and result today.
Rodgers has always stuck to his principles and although the early results were bad, we could see the path forward.
Glad to finally have a manager who picks a team on form and who can fit his style.

Hey, great win for the lads today, it's about time, pity we conceded two, Suarez is magic, it's a pity that We never got to see a suarez Torres partnership for Liverpool

You never know we might still . Fernando llorente Torres . Here is hoping .

It must be an easy job being a commentator for Liverpool matches nowadays - you only have to learn the names of one set of players! ;-)

Great performance by all - Wisdom is gonna be hard for Kelly to move when he comes back. Would like to have seen more of Assaidi - I am really excited by this guy - but no complaints about the team at all. Also loved the singing of "There's only one Brendan Rodgers" - fantastic. YNWA.

They'll move Wisdom or Kelly into central defence

Fully expected a win today after the way we've been playing, but perhaps the biggest surprise ( tongue buried well into the cheek ) is yet another Reina howler - really didn't see that one coming.
Yet again both goals conceded really down to very bad mistakes.

John B

There is no doubt reina is a class keeper but jones looks a lot more comfortable with the ball at his feet, id be tempted to give him a crack

Death by Football. RIP Norwich.

30 Sep 2012 12:47:03
according to Opta, Liverpool made 734 passes yesterday, which is the most by Liverpool in the history of PL. We also had 67% of possesion.

29 Sep 2012 17:00:35
Great performance! Finally the Liverpool we want to see. The only thing that worries me is that even though we dominated, we let in 2 weak goals based on sloppy errors, which we cannot afford to do in tighter matches.

I'd take 5-2 every week myself. Don't mind if we concede a few, as long as we score more.

29 Sep 2012 16:59:44
Solid Result Solid Performance well deserved Suarez was a class act today nice to see however reina was sloppy, ref was poor and dissapointing we couldnt hold the lead another defensive error still 5-2 get in

29 Sep 2012 16:59:13
Just looked at the match stats on bbc website at the end of the game and they have possession as 50/50 - clearly whoever is in charge of stats for bbc in this game was out on a late night bender and has not recovered!! :-)

BBC site had technical problems today - the scores only updated at 6pm - so that might be the reason.

Opta match stats say 67% to the mighty reds

Great to see the ball hitting the net, playing great football, all very very positive.
But, as I have said before, just to take a little shine of the result, not keeping a clean sheet again.
I feel that this may be our undoing in games to come.
BR seems to have got us playing well when we have the ball, now he has to address the lack of clean sheets.
Great result though. Well done boys, stick together and the only way is up.

29 Sep 2012 16:54:39
Real positive performance by reds.just give BR support FSG.
But day dampened by 2 lazy players pepe whose poor distribution led to a goal and then skertel gave second.

No clean sheet again ed but real positives.

Liverpool took there foot off the gas and a few players went to sleep. Up until the Skrtel had played well, and Pepe made some good saves early on. Player i was most disappointed with was Sterling, just didn't seem up for it.

29 Sep 2012 17:30:38
Sterling had two assists. He is only 17 and his tracking back was outstanding. Can't believe the negative comments we put 5 past a premiership team away from home. Great performance. Two more victories and we are right in the mix for champions league places.

??? sterling was heavily involed in saurez first and gerrards, the kids 17, hes not going to be amazing every game but he was full of running tracked and tracked back alot.

29 Sep 2012 18:33:18
I've tried explaining this before:

A 17 year old is not going to play brilliantly every week without a break at this level, no matter how good he is. That's why you have to be patient with them and not be expecting them to be able to fulfill a first team role week in, week out.

Sterling's done brilliantly and has been our best player this year so far. He's entitled to an 'off' day (and it's not like he played terribly either, btw), if you ask me. I think his current prominence in the team because of our lack of numbers up front is an unfair ask of a lad of his age, and it's a testement to his ability that he's answered it.

It may not be a popular opinion, but I don't want Sterling playing 50 games this year. He's going to need a break once in a while, and not just in mid-week either. Hopefully Assaidi will provide some real competition up front. There's a good reason why David Moyes 'managed' Rooney's game time when he was Sterling's age.

29 Sep 2012 16:54:25
I HOPE WE DONT PLAY AROUND WITHE BALL AT THE BACK LIKWE DID FOR THE LAST 10 mins

It causes too much problems and defensively we are still wide open and weak

But good away win..no away will b easy

So I hope over the weeks we become solid at the back

Pete

I don't mind conceding 2 if we score 5 every game!

You might at the end of the season if goal difference denies us a top 4 place

+3 goal difference every game isn't exactly going to cost you a place in the top four

I think if you win EVERY game 5-2 goal difference won't be an issue!!!!

Puzzled

5 star performance from the lads! Death by football! Suarez was awesome - I know he'll get the plaudits but my MOTM is Sahin - pure class! His reading was fantastic, his goal was sublime, our fox in the box! Thoroughly enjoyable win! Singred

Yeah , sahin is class as you would expect , I hope we can sign him permanently in the summer madrid got essien and modric and with a whole host of other midfielders we could get him for a fair price , but suarez was MOTM for me today ,unplayable upfront.. hope we sign suso ,wisdom on long term contracts as well .. if we could sell a couple of our fringe players and replace with cheap buy quality young players we will be having a top notch squad..

It is time to drop Reina for a few games to see will it buck him up a bit. What do yiz all think.

Brad Jones

I've been saying this for a while. He has been poor by his own previous high standards since RH first took over.

Yeah I agree, drop Reina for a few games

Peter Gulacsi

Jones is not good enough, I agree that Pepe has not been at his best, but he's still etter than Jones I am sure Brendan will be keen to bring in pepe's replacement, because imo Pepe will leave come the end of 2013

I agree! Definitely can use some rest! By the way, anyone know of any cheap flight tickets from South America?

You don't need a cheap flight Doni, you get paid enough sat at home ;)

Brilliant first 45 for the most part, but think I would drop Sterling in the 2nd in favor of Assaidi. Raheem is looking a tad lazy for me today and a reality check may be needed.

Sterling was a beast in the 2nd half but assaidi deserves a start i think

I wouldnt say that hes just young and played a lot recently he could do with a break

He was better in the 2nd, so maybe it sorted itself out at half time. Good performance for the most part. Scary thing is it could have easily been 7 or so to nil barring the mistakes from Reina and Skrtel.

More of this in the future and we'll be alright I think.

Well played mate

Doubt you'd get an immediate response let alone one at all from the FA - my gran could hand deliver a letter from Dover to the Orkney's quicker than they can place their quills back in their ink pots (and she's been gone close to 15 years now). If you think, it took the FA 23 years to admit their fault at Hillsborough - useless waste of space.

Great performance from the team today. Stand out performers - Suarez, Suso, Sahin, Allen. For the first time this season I'd say Sterling is the worst player on the pitch for us. Maybe a BPL debut for Assaidi in the second half?

If you are the worst player on the pitch and you create more than Downing has in his whole Liverpool career then you're alright by me.

The more I see the red card last week, the more I can't understand what the ref was thinking. Was a great tackle.

Side footed.....Got the ball.........didnt really touch Evans.

Are you not allowed to be commuted in the tackle anymore?

Jonjo does need to learn not to dive in. I think it was a red, but Evans should have walked too.

davethebutcher

Totally disagree dave,if evans had the ball and jonjo dived in on him like that then yes but not when its 50/50 and two players are going for the ball,it was a full blooded challenge from both players but i didnt see intent or malice from either player. The ref completely overreacted to the situation and doesnt what it takes to ref big games

Having watched part 2 of the Being Liverpool FC documentary last night, I wish some of the younger players would have got off their backsides and shaken John Henry's hand and shown some manners instead of the embarrased grunts that they did. It looked bad in my opinion.
Also what a compete slob Charlie Adam came over as. Slagging off Baseball to John Henry. All he had to do was just smile and congratulate Henry for puting on a great show at Fenway park. Instead he sat in his seat with his stomach hanging over his shorts.
Finally Aquilani looked totaly 'friend less' and completely out of the group.

Maybe some shyness from the youngsters. Lack of confidence maybe.

They say its our worst start in over a 100 years, I say its one of the best . For the first time , we lost against the mancs and i was proud to be an lfc supporter, a loss against Arsenal and a draw at City . And i couldnt feel and prouder of the mighty reds. My teams is the envy of every supporter out there , we are paying no mecernaries , and we havent looked any less deadlier. I would very much love a win today, but win or lose , i know every team is shaking in their boots of what we will be in a year or two to come.
i just hope every true fan can realise this and get behind BR,
Lfc forever.

Well done again Brendan Rodgers. All fans were calling for under performing, high earning players to be dropped, and the talented youngsters to be given a shot. He's doing just that.

18 players there today and 5 (Wisdom, Suso, Sterling, Gerrard, Carragher) via the academy. Also, the average price for a player in the starting 11 is £7million.

That's some good work since the Summer.

The performances are there and the results are coming. I'm behind this guy 100%

Front 5 of Suarez, Sterling, Suso, Sahin and Stevie...with the little Swansea maestro behind. It's all about the 'S' !

Its not just a goalscorer we're lacking in the first team its someone like suso who can dribble past a player and stick a ball in opening up the oppositions defence.

My team today would be
Reina, johnson, coates, skrtel, enrique, sahin, gerrard, suso, sterling, assaidi, suarez....

We need them amazing through balls and each of the 3 mid's in this game can do that.

Been flat out busy so no time to post anything - might be late with this but the second Sahin goal is the best goal we've scored for a while in my opinion. Proper team goal!

Not Gerrard thumping in from 30yards (although that would be good again as well - please Stevie G)

Not, give the ball to Suarez for him to go past the entire oppostion before scoring... (although we need that at times as well)

Not, just a goal from set pieces and corners... (although we need that at times as well)

But a well worked, fast moving play that resulted in a tap in at the far post - beautiful!

29 Sep 2012 11:52:19
am i the only one in not wanting any transfers in january. fair enough if we go for a world class player at 30 - 40 million but i cant see that happening. alot of people saying go for walcott and sturridge. for me on the wings i would rather rotate assaidi sterling suso and suarez there and give pacheco a bit of time there when were a couple of goals up. also cf rotate borini suarez and yesil. these young lads have shown alot of quality and they are ready for the step up. they already look better players than walcott and sturidge and if these lads play from now until jan then we go out and buy walcott and sturidge and players like sterling get put back in the reserves whats that gonna do to there confidence and will they want to stay at the club. the squad did look thin at the end of the transfer window but with the youth stepping we dont need any average players that are gonna want 100k a week

gaz {Ed052's Note - I agree mate. I really dont want any new signings. The youngsters are better than any other options anyway}

Strewth Mate

ITs just keeps gettin weirder on here!

Were in a relagation battle and everyone wants the kids

I bet the kids are terrifying Citeh, Chelsea and Utd {Ed052's Note - The ''KIds'' terrified both UTD and Citeh}

29 Sep 2012 13:47:32
Agree with keeping kids, however, a striker is necessary. And I don't mean Carroll. Sturridge would do for me, but if I was dreaming, I would want Higuain.

I just worry with injuries, we might run out of decent options. Kids are brill but please do not ruin them playing 38 gamed a season. aklfc

A real out and out goalscorer is a must though I feel, and a little bit of depth maybe (though I suppose that's what the youth is becoming).

ChrisMiz {Ed052's Note - As I have said, I actually think we already have that striker, that out and out finisher that we already need - whether it's Morgan, Yesil, Ngoo or Sinclair - I am not sure - but it'll be one of them who will solve our problems}

Agree with Ed
Leave it until summer, there's no value until then. {Ed052's Note - POTD!! Haha}

Agree, it would be great for Rodgers to have a full season to evaluate his entire and the young lads coming through then come summer he can begin by integrating 1 or 2 players that will really make a difference to his team, like FSG have said Rodgers is under no pressure to get champions league football this season although i still believe that is more than possible.

A striker in january is a must we are hardly banging goals in now and if we were to suffer anymore injurys we would be in serious trouble

29 Sep 2012 10:07:12
i think we culd get a 2-1 out of the game today. this will give all our players the need of confidence. a clean sheet for reina would be good for him though!

robinson was awesome on wed night so i would go with him at LB with johnson at RB.

sahin allen and gerrard have to be the midfield - sahin ran wed night.

up front sterling suarez and assiaidi or suso. but then again pacheco looked good so would be good to see him on the bench plus i believe he was on loan at norwich.

we have to give BR time all our senior player clearly love his ideas

29 Sep 2012 13:30:33
This is the problem with our attitude as fans at the moment and possibly the attitude of some of the players aswell, yes on paper and by rights we should destroy Norwich, but to go out there with the attitude that the game is won before a ball has even been kicked is suicide.

Hi Eds/Macca, Is anyone aware of any recent news on the redevelopment of Anfield or of a new stadium? Does anyone have any real knowledge around where the club is in the decision making process and what timeframes apply moving forward?

ConnorsLFC {Ed052's Note - There doesnt seem to have been anymore movement on it recently, but this is down to issues regarding the two possible options, and no doubt financing the project. I would say that whatever happens in the league this year could determine what will happen regarding the stadium next summer}

ed are you saying we need top 4 to get finance to redevelop anfield {Ed052's Note - Not necessarily. I think the option we will take could depend on how well we do, and where we finish - or improvements we make. That's only an opinion, and gut feeling though - not based on any information}

Hi Eds ,

I just thought I would ask if there are any teams tracking some of our potential january leavers , the likes of Cole ,downing etc .I believe the club will give money to BR after the dissapointing summer window but have not heard any realistic interest in any of our players .

Also I would love to see us sign a poacher with a bit of experience , the names banded about are all well and good but unrealistic do you have an idea how much money may be available without selling in January as I think that we will struggle to get players like downing etc to agree moves .

looking forward to the Norwich game hopefully another game where we progress .

cheers

kobi {Ed052's Note - Firstly, I am not too sure that I can post your ''lastly...'' bit - I am sure you understand. But anyway, onto you questions and points. Firstly, I am not too sure there will be much interest in our players, or atleast the ones that we dont mind leaving. I think Cole could be a hard player to get rid of due to his highish wages, but I dont see the need for Downing to go. He is very versatile and can play a lot of matches for us this season. As for money, I doubt the owners will invest hugely in January - and I also see no need for it. The squad is not bare at all. The younger players and better than the older players we have just got rid of in the summer. I agree however that perhaps a central striker may be on the wishlist, but I would suggest that Yesil may have made that spot his own by the time January comes about. We also have Morgan, Ngoo,, Sinclair etc. And mate, we will torunce Norwich - well I hope so anyway!!}

The younger players will get injured easily and then we'll be fooked

For the EPL you need seasoned warriors

Is that you Alan (Hansen)?

Above all, I would like to be remembered as a man who was selfless,
who strove and worried so that others could share the glory,
and who built up a family of people who could hold their heads up high and say

'We're Liverpool'.

Many thanks, "Shanks" RIP.

why the hell are people thinking of getting rid of Jose Enrique surely thats just crazy he was proably our best player last season would be a massive loss to me and just further dissapointment of whats happening

I wouldn't activley look to sell him but if we were offered a fair amount I would consider it because he has been poor for the last 18 months. It's not like we spent stupid money on him either so we wouldn't make a huge loss (if any). {Ed052's Note - I would defo try to get rid. We have 3/4 better left back's than him}

Rodgers is on a crusade to get shut of all the Kings Signings

Lets not hope it does not bite him in the aspe

Agree we have better left backs but I think its a risk to sell all our experienced players and rely on youth. If Robinson gets injured (which he has been prone to in the last season or two) and wisdom loses form it would be unfair to keep him in the team, remember insua? And I dont think McLaughlin would be ready to step up just yet. Atleast Enrique would be there as back up when the games start coming thick and fast. {Ed052's Note - Good point mate. But I would still sell him!!}

Yes because they were all so successful.

Enrique flattered to deceive, when he arrived he looked the best left back in the country, anyone who saw him play after 4 months will tell you he made Degan look a good player.

Would like to see BR start Allen, Sahin, Stevie, Sterling, Suarez & Assaidi today. If Allen & Sahin sit that will allow Stevie freedom to pull the strings. I feel a good Tonking coming for someone as we've been very unlucky! Let's hope the ref gives us the decisions we deserve & we get a good result which will kick start the season. Keep the faith!

i would love a win after today's game, my girlfriend is a man u fan and she has been abusing me since our lose, so i have decided to blacklist her usual phone numbers and also stay late at work in order to miss any chances of her meeting me. Hope BR and lads will save me from this hiding game.
cheers, Felmil GH.

Nice post matey....I suppose you could remind her that we are playing far superior football to them. Not sure if that works on girls tho. I'll be thinking of you when we put 4 past Norwich.

Len

Thanks for caring (Lens) mate, I appreciate it.
cheers, Felmil GH.

She must be one good looking girl mate.

I'll take a 0-1

Homestly i hope sahin will stay at lfc, hes been quite a positive addition to us, hes attitude has been fanatastic! Hopefully this spell will chnage hes mind and stay at lfc :)

Just noticed that Suarez has a record of 24 goals in 59 appearances for Lfc - we all know he could have scored more but it is still a decent strike rate. Just needs to work on his assists.

cozinoz

That will happen when he has confidence in the other forwards. I think it's just around the corner TBH.

Len

It will happen when he looks up and gives and goes and isn't so bleeding ball greedy!

Hi eds... Just wondering if anyone had caught it but does BR touch the 'This is Anfield' sign before vominb on to the field?
Ynwa

How could you not do it? For me, it would take a supreme effort of will.

Len

Ive seen him do it

I am not there in the tunnel on match days but surely he does touches it what would be the sense in restoring the old 'this is anfield sign'.

He does.
