Any comments on Justin Rhodes of Blackburn and Charlie Austin of Burnley?
Remember Ian Rush came through from the lower divisions?
Might be worth a punt {Ed001's Note - Rush was a lot younger, he was just a teenager, these two are both in their 20s. Neither are top class, Rhodes lacks pace, lacks a lot in link up play too. Austin, I wouldn't touch, he has a lot of off field issues.}

Hey guys, not really Liverpool related, but I was watching the Madrid derby yesterday and before a free kick was taken, a Real Madrid player moved the ball back a bit and then an Athletico Madrid player pushed him over. The referee was right next to it and yet no card or anything was given.

Am I right in thinking that if this was in the premier league this would be a straight red card and are Spain less strict in their refereeing for dissent?

B101

It was barely a push, he just made the most of it in my opinion so no I don't think Spain are less strict than the Premier League

No, just shows that refs in Spain have more common sense and aren't fooled by play acting and childishness in the same way that our refs are.

All I see yet again is sterling this and sterling that.... Man utd are interested n so are Chelsea..... Blah blah blah.... He has said that he has to wait until he's 18 to sign with us, so when he does turn 18 he will sign a pro contract with us.... These rumours make me laugh, Chelsea n man utd can't offer him 1st team action like we can, if he did go elsewhere he would be sat on the bench all the time.... All this talk about him wanting high wages too are a joke, he can't hold us to ransom at 18 years old, he will get a basic offer for an 18 year old n it's up to him to accept or go elsewhere, we do not need an 18 year old demanding high wages at our club being a premadonna before hes a proven player, if he doesn't like what he gets offered then get lost n go!

Lfc forever

Cut the lad some slack will you, most of the remarks on here are paper talk. Get behind him we want him to sign a contract when he's 18. He is just the sort of player we need, he's doing a great job at the moment and needs a rest from playing and person posters making all sort of assumptions and induendo's, wages should not concern us that's between LFC and him

Look! Worst case scenario with Sterling is that if the club is unhappy in any way regarding wage/contract issues? They will just give in to demands ( if it's true ) get him signed up on a long term contract and then sell him for 20M + :

any chance of adebayor ? as boas isnt his greatest fan and im sure he will have his own targets who he wants to bring in. {Ed002's Note - I would doubt it.}

02 Dec 2012 20:50:20
where are the rafa lovers now?3 games no wins an 1 goal scored with star players all over the field!In Brendan we trust!

To be fair.

I am loving Rafa even more - long may those sort of results continue. Rafa isnt with us but he is still doing us all a favour.

That''s Torres and Rafa now doiing thier bit for us. Maybe Downing would like to help out too.

RedOz

What do you mean where are the rafa lovers now. Did you not see how we began the season. Only two matches in

02 Dec 2012 20:47:23
Listen all this talk of sterling and 50k its bull(I hope) if he or his reps asked for that they shud hang there head in shame if he wants to warm the bench elsewhere for that money off u go we are lfc bigger n better than any 17year old JON96 YNWA

Hi eds what's the latest regarding Liverpools interest in Gary Hooper?

Mighty reds {Ed002's Note - Quiet so probbly waning.}

02 Dec 2012 22:07:09
I think all the talk of BR going aint worth much, its a stick or twist choice really if we twist and move him on who can we get? At the min I don't think we can attract a big name. also if you think about it BR is the first manager FSG are able to call their choice, they inherited Roy, Kenny was, I think supposed to be interim but then forced their hand by doing well and they went with it, and then BR was chosen from all they had to choose from. I feel they will not be in a rush to admit error and will give him time. While I am still undecided on BR some signs are promising but I still see him in that being Liverpool not really looking like he could inspire much in players. Time will tell I have supported the Reds since the sixties and will support the club whatever, the next 2 transfer windows will define BR, for all the talk of him being shafted in the last window anybody could see we needed proven forwards in the summer and he had the whole of the window to sort it and bought Borini. Lets hope for better in the next 2 windows or he will I feel be gone and we start all over again.

If Brendan did walk i hope Borrell would get the job! Promote from within like we use to do!

i see quite alot of people on here slagging of fsg saying why didnt they buy a striker blah blah is everyone forgetting fsg saved us from adminastartion without them we probably would have ended up like pourtsmouth and leeds also i have noticed the past 2-3 seasons anfield is not what it used to be our crowd used to be the 12th man even though we still have some of the best supporters in the world the kop is no where near like what it used to be also people are moaning about not getting top 4 this and that do people not remember what happened with man utd when whisky nose took over they went 5 years without a trophy infact there is alot in common with our situation now and theres back then they had very good young players waiting to breakthrough we also have very good young players e.g sterling,suso,ibe,smith and lots of other very good youngster if we could develop even half of our young players to there full potential we will have a world class team imagine how good sterling,suso,
shelvey will be in 5 years time we are just starting a rebuilding process some fans need to come to terms with the fact we are not guarenteed top 4 every year we will once again be a force to be reckoned with but we just need to be patient.
sorry for the long post

A lot of fans are saying we should sell sterling. Reality is we can't sell him if he doesn't sign then he will go for free.

At the sametime there are lots of youngsters getting big wages exampe

Borini

Henderson

Shelvey

If you think sterling is better then above players then he should get the same but we are just offering him 20k aweek. I know still its a lot of money but compare to above and your sterling will you except 20k aweek or want same as above.

Above poster, your talking rot, you cant possibly know the contract details of the players mentioned certainly not how much Stirling have been offered or is willing to accept. That's between the club and the players concerened.
A lot of posters have been having their 2 penny worth based mostly on paper talk, get real and leave it to the club officials, don't you think players read these pages,who would want to sign for us with the amount of tripe coming from so called fans...rant over

Like many of you i'm trying to second guess Rodgers for his front 3 for the West Ham. Assuming he plays Lucas Allen and Gerrard in midfield . Got a feeling he may put Sterling into the strikers position, Enrigue on the left leaving maybe Shelvey or suso coming from the right maybe even Cole. Cant see him chucking Morgan or Yesil in from the start
Your guess is as good as mine

Sterling left suso right shelvey middle

so many names linked some who i wont mind n some i dnt want.
Gomis has been strongly linked recently who is decent but i feel we can get som1 better.
Gomis has been scoring this season n gt 9 in the lg. And the past few seasons had scored 14,10,10.
Not really prolific especially last seasons top scorer who had over 20gls is struggling at Arsenal. N a league wer Joe Cole was a 'star'
I really hope we look at BONY simply becus he has been scoring, is fast strong only 23 n wont be overly expensive.
Also even BA if he really has the 7.5m clause.
He has been scoring since he came to England.

Sturridge has been linked for so long n i knw many people dnt like him but i think he could be a good buy. But only 12m Max.
Wen he was given a chance at Bolton on loan he was on fire.
And under AVB he scored 11 league goals in just the first half of the season but since then has been missused.
He will suit our style interchanging positions coming frm the right or going through the middle.
He has flare n can beat people and some call him greedy but i think we need someone who has the audacity to take it on n take chances instead of looking for likes suarez to be the only one.

I would b happy with 2.
A combo of Bony & Sturridge or Ba

Sterling and Suarez to be sold in January, to help finance a total rebuild of the squad. BR wants to get 2 defenders, 1 midfield and 2 strikes and possibly a goalkeeper, in the Jan window. Kopdrop

What utter tripe! Why even post crap like this? What does it acheive?!

Thats right we are going to get 100 mill for the 2 of them to rebuild the squad.

is BR not doing that just now.

Sigh, of course they will.

And if i get you...thats over and out for you....

You realise, players such as those will be central to the rebuilding of the squad? That's even if a 'total rebuild' was coming, which it isn't. Where do you even get these stupid lies?

Do you really see 6 players signing in January? We'll be lucky to see any more than 2! At best we need at least a couple of new striking options, and at a push a dependable LB.

I'm happy to say that I doubt anyone by the poster will take any grains of salt from here.

ChrisMiz

150 mill for the pair i'd say go for it

Ha ha ha best joke I've heard in a while..... Plus Surely you can't sell sterling when he's not signed a pro contract with us yet lol.... Tickled me that joke

02 Dec 2012 22:16:45
there would be riots if that were to happen mate

Two defenders?! Even though we got one of the best partnerships in the league?! Okay then

He is man u fans, if ever fsg or rodger sell 1 of our star 2 old dirty firgy, il b convinced that them lot work for him and not 4 the sake of lfc, so no player shud b sold 2 old wisky nose, if they want cash, so cash it wif city, or chelsea.

Ed's as Suarez is banned at West Ham, do you think we will play Morgan or give Yesil a start?

FowlerGod. {Ed002's Note - Yes and I don't know - perhaps Asaidi.}

I think it's more likely Jon jo will start upfront, he's already tried it once

Jon jo had a mare up top the last time

Raheem through the middle?

AZ

Cant see Asaidi gettin a game myself, think BR may go 3-5-2 to cobat the aerial bombardment from Sam, possibly Sterling and Shelvey up top but I hope Morgan gets a run out hes been playin well for the U21's

Liverpool to put in a 12mill bid for Shane Long according to a few newspapers/websites. Any truth in this?

Cheers, Jamin.

Raheem Sterling is not 18 until next Saturday 8th December.

Once 18 Raheem will then sign be able to sign his first contract, all this talk of him going to the is tabloid trash.

Raheem will sign his first professional contract with Liverpool within the next 14 days mark my word...

Stirling - Yes, he still has lots to learn but we seriously can't afford to lose players like Stirling as we certainly can't afford to buy the beggars anymore!

What's he worth? - Errr, Utd. City, Arsenal and Chelsea are sniffing around - it's a clue! They aren't looking to buy Downing off us are they!!!

Before anyone say's the usual of - if he doesn't' want to play for the shirt blah blah blah - there aren't many of those football players around these days!!

I hope that STERLING stays as well.

Lads.

Not had much chance to watch the reserves, so was wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to how Yesil is getting on? I know there's a massive amount of hype surrounding the guy back in Germany but just wanted to know if he's doing well? I know it's early days with him but opinions would be much appreciated.

He hasnt played much due to injury and international commitments.

The poster who mentioned Fernando Aristeguieta earlier, props! just checked him out and his record, this guys is a BEAST and only 20

Hope what u said about Suarez giving a nudge about him to BR is true coz he looks like a future superstar and would only cost 3/4 mill

Get him Rodgers!

Shak Attack

While his record is good, he was injured for most of 2011 and he is playing in the Venezuelan league, hardly the EPL or even the Championship. Would still be interesting though.

I know we are in the market for a striker but unlike previous examples of when we have been in this situation there doesn't seem to be a obvious or even suitable striker to go for such as Torres or Suarez.

The top quality strikers such as Cavani or Falcao are too expensive and are targets of the richer clubs.

The likes of sturridge and walcott are to wasteful and overrated and there are good reasons why they don't feature heavily for there clubs.

The likes of Huntelar, Adebayor, Llorente, Bent don't fit FSG' age and wage transfer policy.

While any others remain unproven at even a remotely high level, Bony and Ince.

There doesn't seem to be that ideal £15 - £25m reasonably young striker who fits the bill.

Thoughts?

Our start to the season has dramatically reduced our options.
Anyone coming in us basically saying to themselves that they're happy with no champions league football next season.

That basically rules out anyone half decent or with any ambition.

I think in January we either don't sign anyone and hope to the heavens that we don't lose Suarez to rich clubs/injury/suspension or we go for someone like Darren Bent on loan.

A loan deal until the end of the season is our best option I think.

Marcus Aurelius

Damioa and lewandowski could be that striker if we could offer them about 80k a week.

Bony would be the right choice if we could get him

As I've said before I believe Remy would be a great fit for us and at the right price unfortunately I can see him ending up in London

Chris in Tamworth

Rossi,gomis,di santo

Rossi, Son, Adrian Lopez, Harnik, Jeffren...

list goes on

AZ

Guys this season by January we could be third. Everyone has been playing awful and dropping points left right and center. Week after week on Sunday we talk about how all our rivals lost points Saturday and we need to take advantage because who knows when this will happen again. Then next Sunday everyone has dropped on Saturday.
We are 4 off 6th and 7 off 3rd. Considering our start I am ecstatic. With a run of 4 or 5 wins who knows how high we can climb.
Andrew

My dream striker to buy would certainly be lewandowski

If Liverpool let ANY player go to Man Utd let alone one with the potential Sterling has then the owners right down to the groundsman all need to be banned from football forever. This would be an absolute cardinal sin and cannot be aloud to happen, whatever it takes to sign Sterling up we HAVE to do. I'm not saying that he's the best winger in the world or anything like that but can you imagine if he was aloud to go to Utd and turned out to be as good as we all think he's going to be? We would be a total laughing stock. I really hope it's just some bored journalist making up nonsense but even the thought of this happening is making my blood boil.

So we should give him 50k bcos he has played about 20games...he his a talented footballer,but if he thinks he can hold liverpool to ransome..he should go to another club asap...what makes you sure he wont loose form when he is 22...he isnt even the finished product yet he still has to make a lot of improvements physically and technically...though i would miss him badly if he goes...there are other youngsters waiting for their chance..suso is even a better player so whats the fuss about sterling

If old dirty fergy didnt alow us signing a player hu he didnt wanted, after giving him letter that u can go to any team 4 6millions gabriel hainze, the old dirty fergy took us to the court so this transfer dosnt happen, so wy we willve to give him our raising star, becouse everything he think shoud go on his way he can get one of the most raising star.

He wasn't even in the reckoning last season, I'm sure we'll cope if he leaves.
There are no guarantees in football, he could get injured next week and never recover his early season form.

He's being badly advised, if he's making demands now what will he be like in 2-3 years time? It'll be more money more demands.

Let him go to Man Utd if they want our rejects.

Second poster you're missing the point mate, we can't take the risk of losing him to utd. You're right in that we shouldn't offer a massive amount but we have to offer better terms than the likes of man u, they're not as rich as people think with their debts and all and if we at least match what he's offered elsewhere then we've done all we can, if then he goes well sod him but losing him to man u would be awful.

I agree, but he'll look at the ex footballer that is joe cole on £90k per week and think...."£50k is value for money vs you".
Pieboy1812

The kid looks trouble to me he isnt making the right noises or showing any loyalty to the club if we could do a swap with walcott i would.

I agree..thats the only thing that would hurt...if united are interested then give him 40k

Everyone needs to calm down. We don't know what's going on as he can't sign anything until he's 18 so the club can't announce anything to put our minds at rest.

This is all lazy journalism...especially the manc link!!

He'll sign, no worries :)

Stop believing everything you read in the toilet papers.

02 Dec 2012 16:49:05
edds according to the tabloids today, we are after every striker in the world! do you or Macca having any inside knowledge who the likely players are that we are after signing?

cheers

Huntellar will definately be targeted.

Hi Ed002. I've seen a couple of times you say that you support Chelsea "this season". Do you change your loyalties every year? {Ed002's Note - Of course, don't you?}

02 Dec 2012 17:47:06
Can you hear that guys? Every time Ed002 trolls someone, an angel gets a pair of wings.

Great work 002!

How come your a Chelski fan living in the states? {Ed002's Note - I left the States in 1981 and moved to Chelsea. Since then I have lived mainly in Monaco, Cap d'Ail and England with .}

Nearly as often as Chelsea change their manager then.

You will be supporting Monaco when Beckham turns up then Ed? {Ed002's Note - I could never support Monaco - I hav a strong affiliation with Marseille.}

Can i come and live with you ed002? {Ed002's Note - Mother, I told you we don't want you living with us.}

Macca,is it true that Sterling has fallen out with Rodgers??
MAnoj

I was talking to Raheem in a hairdresser's and he said Buck was the best manager he'd worked under! {Ed002's Note - I have seen Sterling and I am pretty sure he has never been to a hairdresser.}

To be fair ed I follow sterling on twitter (I know, I know) and he goes to the hairdressers often. {Ed002's Note - It is code for his mum. She just puts the cat on his head and cuts around it. Saves him £7 for a haircut.}

HAH nice 1 ed :>

Ed002 I took my son to get his hair cut in a Hairdresser's on Lodge Lane called Rasta's! He was in there with his mate and both of them were getting their hair cut! I was talking to him for about 20 min's! So i can assure you that he was in a hairdresser's and he did say those word's to me plus alot more!

02 Dec 2012 16:42:14
If whatever ED002 says is true that westham have to buy caroll no matter what if they are not relegated (Depnding on caroll's willingness to leave for westham) then i would say rodgers has pulled off a gr8 deal for us. We might be able to sell our asset (caroll) for 6 to 8 m more than its (his) market price

But i am still worried that westham might pull another aquillani on us
u know Ac Milan willingly not playing him in the min. no. of games to trigger the buyout clause.

I am not saying that westham also have a similar sort of loan contract for caroll but hopefully by the end of the season they dont find any loop hole in the loan cum buy contract to screw over us

I think we should probably assume he is coming back, unfortunately. So much wasted potential.

02 Dec 2012 16:13:59
let Sterling talk to Anthony le tallec thats where he's going because of greedy advisors

No, Sterling will probably join a club with a bit of ambition, who know how to nurture young players and go on to become a regular England international, winning countless honours along the way.

Man City then?

Why not stay with us then .

02 Dec 2012 16:13:15
With Suarez suspended against West Ham, Liverpool should go with the following selection against the Hammers. This selection also takes into account the physicality and aerial threat of West Ham. Goalie-Reina. Rightback: Wisdom. Centrebacks: Skrtel and Coates. Leftback: Carragher. Rightmidfield: Johnson. Centremidfield: Lucas and Shelvey. Leftmidfield: Enrique. I would put Agger at Centreforward and put Gerrard as the linkman.

Fans will say it makes no sense playing Agger at centreforward. However, look at the way he turned his header yesterday and he started his youth career as a striker. There are also examples of players who have played both centreback and centreforward in the top flight such as Dion Dublin and Chris Sutton.

This has to be a wind up

This is hilarious, just heard brendan rodgers is gona play up front, thinks agger cant shoot rite.

I can see you having more potential than red nose ..

Let Rodgers select the team - it is his job, not yours.
DJP

Shelvey will probably play striker and Gerrard AM behind him and they will swap between themselves during the match. RED LENIN

And Assaidi as keeper ?

Considering this season we've had Downing at LB, Enrique at LW, Hendo at RB and Shelvey as a lone striker........maybe Pepe is the man to bring us goals?

cozinoz

Bein fair to Agger, he does have a screamer of a left foot, remind's me a a little of Arne Risse, but his left foot was a rocket

Hi Ed's,

Just a quick one... Are WHUFC contractually obliged to buy Carroll if they do not get relegated? Is it water-tight? Is it £17m?
If I was a west ham money man I would be worried... He is spending a lot of time on the treatment table? That plus his return of 1 goal in 10 games makes me think they'll want to send him back to Anfield?
Cheers
Eddie {Ed052's Note - If they stay up, the deal is that they will sign him for £18m I think. However, Carroll could reject them, making the deal collapse}

If we give 2 mill to caroll..suerly he wont reject...he is the worst no 9 liverpool ever had

Didn't El Hadji Diouf wear number 9?

He is definitely worse than Carroll

Diouf scored more goal's than Carroll!

02 Dec 2012 16:04:46
Does anyone of u guys know for sure abt the loan contract of caroll with west ham
some say that if west ham stay up they have to buy him for 17 m or so. Is it true?
If its true, then west ham have to be dumber than us and we should be thanking them {Ed052's Note - If they stay up, the deal is that they will sign him for £18m I think. However, Carroll could reject them, making the deal collapse}

02 Dec 2012 15:27:45
This could be an option, liverpool have around 10-15m in january at best plus any sales. We dont have many assets that would demand a good fee other than reina, who over the last few years is a shadow of his former best. Offer to arsenal for 12m plus walcott. Offer joe cole to QPR for free but ask that a small fee change hands for julio cesar, say 2-3m. We now hav a good keeper, a forward and around 25m to spend. Also downing is never gonna be a left back and needs to be moved on, any offers around 5m i would take.Henderson should get to the summer at least. So now rodgers could potentially have around 30m. If on top of that he could get another striker such as sturridge or bent then that will give us options to mix things about. I would love to see big name players arrive, but the reality is without champions league money we cant pay the wages. This season if nothing else has given the young players a chance, wisdom looks a great player suso and sterling look fantastic in patches so the future isnt all doom and gloom. Theo, bent and suarez would be a great front 3. Allen lucas and gerrard a good midfield with wisdom srktel agger and johnson a good bk 4 and cesar in goal. Good bk up off the bench in enrique sterling, borini shelvey suso etc.

Matt28

Earth to matt28, do you read us over.
first off who told you we have 10-15 mill to spend? show some faith in the owners, they said the money is there is the right player is available for the right price. rodgers has said we dont have much money, because every man and his dog know lfc need a striker so the price will be hiked up when we make our move. reina has not made a mistake sense he came back from injury and you want to dump him for casar who was dropped by inter, because he was not good enough. he also cant join another club till the summer. do you think you we are the only ones that know pepe is not the wall he used to be of late, so why would arsenal pay 20mill for him. downing is not playing great but he is worth more than 5mill 10-12 would be my value for him and if no one will pay that put him on load for rest of season to up interest in him.

KUMBER

Why are you taking the p**s out of him Kumber? I actually agree with what he's saying. QPR have a goalie excess and Arsenal can't decide on first choice. What makes you think they wouldn't use the contract problem with theo to solve a first team problem? Plus you think that pepe deserves a first team place at Liverpool after his performances for the last two years? The reality is that we have to balance the books and overpaid players you can get a fee for should be sold. Downing won't go for anything more than £5m, his stock is rock bottom

eds whats happening with pacheco he doesn't seem to be getting a look in anywhere. {Ed052's Note - Its due to attitude and ability. We have more able players within our ranks than him}

You mean..downing and henderson??...
common how is blind person become an ed? {Ed001's Note - what are you talking about? Does Pacheco play in either of their positions? How silly do you want to make yourself look?}

Pacheco continues to think he is bigger and more important than he is and that he can be late for training as and whenever he likes. In short, his attitude stinks. RED LENIN

Cheers for the reply ed i just wondered as many seem to think pacheco is a great player, but gets over looked by all our managers.

Just started playing football manager 2013. Thought some of the stats might be of interest to some of you.

I'm playing as Bradford in lg2 and were doing OK.

On December 2nd (in the game) Brendan Rodgers was sacked after a 2-1 away defeat to Villa followed by a 2-0 defeat at home to Chelsea.

They are in 17th position with 14 points.

p w d l +/- pts
13 3 5 5 -7 14

Results;

Soton 0-1 LFC
Lfc 2-2 Fulham
Reading 2-3LFC
LFC 1-3 Arsenal
Lfc 0-2 QPR
WBA 3-0 LFC
LFC 1-1 W.Ham
NUFC 1-1 LFC
Stoke 2-2 LFC
M.City 1-1 LFC
Norwich 1-2 LFC
Villa 2-1 LFC
LFC 0-2 Chelsea

-----------------------------------

What is the point of this you may be wondering. So am I to be honest.

It does show a real lack of squad depth however you look at it. The game is well known for being accurate in many areas (not all). And managers are sacked in the game at a pretty ruthless level despite some of the real-world clubs being far more patient in their approach.

I think the point is that BR is doing OK in my opinion. Fair enough, he is partly responsible for the small squad size but I'm not privy to what goes on behind closed doors and how these decisions are made.

Anyway, as the eds have said on numerous occasions; it is what it is. You can either come along for the ride or not.

Thanks for reading.

Len {Ed052's Note - I'm not sure how you can call the game ''realistic''. Look at all the goals it says Liverpool scored. Totally impossible :P}

And the papers were saying the replacement would be...

Rafa Benitez (obviously the game doesnt know he went to Chelsea)

Javier Aguirre
Luis Aragones
Co Adriaanse

It's not a terrible list of options. I doubt it would be that good in the real world though.

Ps ed 52. I'm sure there were a few oggies in there ;)

Len {Ed052's Note - haha, probably}

Haha,funniest post ever !
who was the new manager roped in ? Rafa i guess !
plz post again once the january window closes in your game and let us know who the new manager brings in ..

The lads that make football manager, the collyer brothers, are in fact massive everton fans. May have something to do with it.

It's very sporadic, I was playing with Milan and saw Liverpool 2nd during the January window.

eds, we all know that the first priority in january is to strengthen our attacking options. do u think we will look for defensive players as well? {Ed052's Note - Not this Jan no, not IMO anyway. We have other, more pressing concerns}

As others have already mentioned, it really was quiet at Anfield yesterday, though I have to say it was on the Arctic side of cool, which is not necessarily conducive to doing much more than shivering. Perhaps the the slow start to the season has contributed too. After two relatively uninspiring performances in South Wales and North London, a win against an improving Southampton side was close to being essential. Thankfully that objective was achieved with a reasonable degree of comfort, if winning 1-0 can over be described as comfortable. Not a spectacular performance, but with some plus points. It was nice to see Pepe Reina building on his sound performance two matches ago at Swansea. Perhaps he can take heart from Jose Enrique's proof that a return to form after a spell in the doldrums is possible. Southampton hardly tested either player though and were fairly ineffective, largely because the return of Lucas Leiva allowed Joe Allen to play higher up the pitch, meaning that pressure could be applied on opposition players in possession rather more rapidly than has been the case of late. Under pressure Southampton found themselves having to clear their lines, playing into the hands of Lucas, Daniel Agger and Martin Skertel in particular. How much greater might last season's achievements have been had Lucas not been injured for so much of it? Let's hope his injuries are behind him now. Another plus for me was Daniel Agger's imperious display. He really is a extremely composed and elegant player to watch live. Some more goals from he and Martin Skertel would be invaluable, especially if Glen and Jose can get forward and into dangerous positions as well. The defenders may need to contribute in the attacking third next weekend, with Luis unavailable. Luis was his usual industrious and dangerous self and will no doubt have a role to play in mid-week. It was a shame he could not have been put through on more occasions, however Liverpool's final ball was lacking in composure yesterday. Perhaps that will improve if the team can manage to put some wins together and become a little less anxious and a little more confident. That might give the crowd the boost they need too. Victories against Udinese and the Hammers would't go amiss in that respect, although there is still a vast amount of work to do if Liverpool want to make this a memorable season.

Guys, who do you think should play as a striker on Sunday (Vs WestHam)?

Is any one of Morgan/Pacheco/Yesil worth a starting place already?

JJ/LT {Ed052's Note - Morgan for me with Suso and Assaidi along side}

Daniel Pacheco

Shelvey will play as a false no9

I agree eds, i also think assaidi should get more play time. He is a great player.

Just to make a point, i bought Fifa 12 for about £3 pound from my friend who loved it and has just wasted £45 pound or whatever on the new one.

I have just started playing the career mode as a manager, of Liverpool and i have about £30 million to spend on new players. But here's the thing, i've just loaned:

Bale, Neymar, Sergio Ramos, Thiago Silva, Hazard, Ganso, Lucas (from Sao Paolo) Thiago (from Barcelona) and Good Old Xabi Alonso to reunite him with Steven Gerrard.

All i have to cover is wagers, which is fine because i don't need to actually spend the transfer kitty now, as i have all the players i want in the game, at my team already. So this is obviously out of the realms of stupid and entering into impossible fantasy fluff crap.

But i only did it to make the point now mind, now back to Championship Manager, the old school one from 1996. Bwahaha. Fowler is God!

Please will somebody at the club give Suso a big slap and take his phone away from him. His twitter remarks about Enrique were stupid and ignorant. Hope the club fine him heavily. Being Spanish is no excuse for homophobia.
ND

What are you on about?

He must of deleted some tweets because I can't see much wrong with the ones left.harmless banter

They are really good friends. That kind of language is evident everywhere. Calling someone g*y doesnt mean you are saying that he is gay, rather his actions are strange. however he should not have said something like that on the internet.

I don't know what he has said, but Enrique and Suso are good mates.

I think that it was intended to be a joke about a colleague and friend. It's the sort of thing that is said in private but shouldn't be put on to twitter.
DM2012

That's exactly the point I was trying to make DM.

If you had any teenage kids you would know that when they use the term gay it does not mean homosexual. Why are people always trying to make something out of nothing?

I think Gerrard should start up front against west ham with a middle 3 of Lucas Allen and Shelvey I would rest sterling and play Assaidi and Suso I think it would be tough for Morgan or Yesil against a physical west ham side to start the game. What would you do ed001?

Square tomato {Ed001's Note - Gerrard on the right, Morgan middle and Assaidi left for me, Sterling does need a break.}

Swap morgan for shelvey in my opinion:
......lucus....allen
.....suso.....gerrard
..........shelvey........assisidi(on whatever side he wishes)

I think Pacheco might get a chance in place of Suarez. {Ed052's Note - I dont think that there is even a remote chance of that happening. Furthermore, I cannot see Morgan playing either}

Why isn't there a chance of Pacheco playing, he deserves it more than Morgan, yesil or ngoo.

ed001, who is mike jeffries? {Ed001's Note - do you mean Mike Jefferies? Just checking because Mike Jeffries is chairman or CEO or similar of Abercrombie and Fitch. Mike Jefferies is the producer of the Goal film series and is currently making a film about Hicks and Gillett's time at Liverpool if I remember rightly.}

Didn't a mike Jefferys play for the barcodes in the early 90s?

Well what a difference a weekend makes the table makes slightly better reading now,

P PTS
10. Arsenal 15 21
11. Liverpool 15 19

Only 2 points behind Arsenal, a team that has been built by their manager, a manager that has been there 16 years now i think. Where as Rodgers has inherited this team and in his first season in charge is trying to stamp his own authority.
There's no hiding we have had a bad start but this month we can climb up the table and over take the likes of Stoke, West Ham and Everton. The teams above us will drop points and Liverpool have to capitalize for once, if that happens we could be top 6 come the United game.

One thing that does make me laugh is people come on here and quote the papers as gospel, when was the last time the papers had anything good to say about our club. Bad news whether its true or not sells. Maybe Sterling wont sign a contract but the last place to look for answers is the papers.

Always a red

Seems your proud AFC are as bad as you.you are both carp

You r happy with a 9th place finish.If we cant be a top 4 club i at least want them to be in the fight for it till the end. when they play itseems the best we can hope for is a tie,when they win its a surprise. for me unacceptable.

Who mentioned a 9th place finish, not me for me 9th place is terrible. Does that mean i'd want Rodgers sacked? No because that would send the club back even further, but empty headed boo boys like yourself don't see that.

always a red

I find that a bit disrespectful to Wenger. He has produced quality players and maxamized their potential. If the mercenaries like RVP, Nasri and co stuck round, arsenal would be in a much higher position

02 Dec 2012 12:32:58
Anybody else notice that Sterling is very one sided. Everything is done on his right foot.

And Messi is all left foot, and he's not a bad player either is he?

He's right footed, so that would kind of make sense don't you think?

Rubbish a footballer should be able to use both feet! i can remember when i played football as a kid i used to kick a ball up against a factory wall, left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot! a pro footballer should be able to use both feet its just lazyness otherwise!

ian the red

Ian the red did it help you? because I see sterling playing for Liverpool talented players don't need both feet example robben

ACMD RED

02 Dec 2012 20:13:33
Yeah how far did that get you? Some players are mainly one footed suso, messi, bale, silva, mata, they not lazy and I'm sure they had better trainers than a factory wall, the skill levels of modern day or outstanding their fitness levels their work rate on and off the pitch shouldn't be undermined, have some respect for the profession. Leem

Depends how good your one foot is. Shelvey always seems very one footed to me? He's doing ok but he'd do a lot better as midfield player if he could go left and right.
kidmillions

Leem they play football for a living mate they should be able to use both feet! how often do you hear he couldnt shoot at goal because it was on his left foot? or he had to cut inside to deliver a cross instead of going down the outside to the byline to cross it in? they have a ball at their feet everyday of the week they should be able to play with both feet simple as that! my dad always said, there is no excuse for not being able to use both feet, its their profession! its a matter of working at it! lets put it this way, emlyn hughes could use both feet no problem and he wasnt half bad was he? just keep your eye out for the next time a player cant use his left foot infront of goal its so frustrating!

ian the red

Oh and dont knock a factory wall pal, its just like someone passing it into feet. Left foot, right foot so simple!

I don't think we need that many players in January. If I was manager I would go after Fischer and eriksen from Ajax for a combined 26 million. Sell downing cole spearing Henderson and Carroll which should raise around 35 million.

Thanks.

I agree with purchase pricing with Ajax. Disagree that we'd get 35 million for the sales though. Firstly, nobody wants to buy any of these players, except perhaps Carroll, however, he has only one goal this season and now is injured again. He will fetch about 10 - 12 million (unless the west ham for 17 million goes through). The rest would fetch a total of 12 million. Cole, Spearing are essentially free. Downing maybe would get us 4 - 6 million. Hard to comprehend when you consider how much we paid for these lads, but unfortunately, we bought them at the peak of their performance and potential, and are selling at the nadir.

Sorry but we are not going to buy erikson and people need to stop think that we will. Realistic targets from now on people. Sturridge, Walcott, hunterlaar, jeffren, bent, bony are more realistic for a January transfer. No more llorentes or Torres or eriksons or cavanis or damiaos.

Eriksen is realistic although may reject us. cavani and falcoa are unrealistic. damioa is realistic as would likely cost around 20 million and not on crazy wages similar to eriksen.

Watched Lyon - Montpelier yesterday . Fortunately Lyon are almost bankrupt and Gomis is a beast , he makes Falcao look like Sean Dundee !

A huge over exaggeration regarding Gomis, don't get me wrong he is a good player probably one of the best strikers in France and would improve our squad, but to compare him to Falcao is way off the mark.

always a red

02 Dec 2012 14:12:04
Gomis is as good as any center forvard in EPL right now, apart from that Duchman in

Lyon are all but "near bankrupt."
They just need to get rid of 1-2 players with big wages.
Their financial management is good.

If Gomis is considered as good, then Falcao is God.

Gomis is an excellent striker what are you talking about mate (to the last poster). He's the type of striker we should be looking for. But I agree that falcao is on another level and is probably the best striker at this moment in time. I don't see us going for gomis personally and Wilfred bony would be a better option. Scores more goals, would be cheaper and easier to purchase and he is younger.

Gomis is far far better than Falcao.

I didn't say that Gomis was a bad player : he is a good striker, but needs plenty of occasions to score one. I'm french and I can watch him play regularly... He scores an average 15 goals per season.

Do you even know how many goals Radamel Falcao scored these last 3 seasons ?

02 Dec 2012 11:03:51
hey lfc fans

im a bit peeved that for 2.5 mill...assaidi never plays!
im sure that money could be spent on an actual player that would play regularly because we have all seen players like michu or dembele who were bought cheaply and just flourished, so you dont always have to spend 20mill on a player all the time.

so i dont see the logic..is he good enough or what brendan...cos to me he has wasted that money from having someone else in the team..its clear we were short of players..so why spend the money on someone you aint gona play.......so what does he do..plays a player like shelvey out of position and hope for the best.

i understand yesil as hes slightly younger......but assaidi..2.5mill...hardly playing.....= waste of money

red lobster

Tbh. 2.5 mill aint as much as some of the money we have wasted. and it a squad player at the end of the day.

Would you rather we had a £40m signing that didn't play?

Confused :/

StrabaneRed

You aint going to get a regular first team player for 2.5 mil, he was obviously bought as a squad player,and when he gets a chance he has to show what he has got, which in my opinion he has'nt up to now
welsh red

We have 35m player who dont play for us...

Notes has bought plenty and some for less
Piennar 2.5(first time) Gibson 1/2 a mill

02 Dec 2012 14:19:04
He looked like much more than 2,5 mil. every time i saw him play. Should keep his head up a bit more, doesn't seem to see a simple pass at times.

02 Dec 2012 10:44:12

02 Dec 2012 10:42:20
Hello Eds,
I have no idea what Liverpool are going to do but selling Sterling is not a good move. I understand that the club gave the player a great chance to play and mature. Raheem should be grateful and being so young should sign a contract at LFC. I don`t know if the club wants the player to stay, but the manager looks happy to play the youngster and not sell him. Both, for the club and the player, will be better if he stays. We will wait and see what happens. But letting him go to Arsenal and taking Walcott will be just hard to understand. all the best to club fans and Eds.

We poached him from QPR.

He has no loyalty.

We can't moan if he doesn't want to stay. Just stick him in goal for the reserves, and let him train with the keepers. That's what I do with my contract rebels on FM 2012.

02 Dec 2012 10:41:02
I don't have twitter but someone told me sterling has deleted his account anyone know if its true? Really hope we don't lose this kid.

This is true his page is no more.
More than likely couldn't be bothered with the abuse he got

Footballers are generally too stupid to have a twitter account without putting their feet in their mouths repeatedly. They would all be better off doing their talking on the pitch.

Why would that mean he is leaving???

02 Dec 2012 10:21:02
IF owners back Rodgers in January then we have got fantastic chance to push for top4. If you see some of our top4 rivals are average at best.

This is the time to nail on top4 if owners are inteligent just need 2 players.

4) Tottenham Hotspur played points goals
15 26 5

5) West Bromwich. 15 26 5

6) Everton 15 23 6

7) Swansea City. 15 23 6

8) West Ham United. 15 22 2

9) Stoke City. 15 22 2

10) Arsenal. 15 21 8

11) Liverpool. 15 19 1

We are in with a decent chance of top 4, we just need a good second half to the season, something we didnt have last year (ignoring the cup runs obviousy). I remember we played Arsenal at home last season, they were 4th and we were seven points behind them, a win would have put us only 4 points off but we lost making us ten points away and we collapsed from that point.
We are 7 points off top 4 now so with some good buys in january we could be right up there come then end of the season.

Jay

What garbage!

We are MILES off top 4.

Bren was right with his target of 8th. Time for some fans to wake up and get real!

Don't waste anymore money in January, wait until we can attract some decent players.

M.Aurelius

How can we attract some decent players if we are finishing 8th? We need to strengthen ASAP so we have a chance of challenging at the end of the season.

Hi eds, I have just read in one of the papers that Man U are gonna try and snatch young Raheem from us before he signs a long term contract.This would Make sense now about old purple noses comments the other week about the club burning out Michael owen and not letting him develop better.Honestly who does he think he is someone should tell him to do one I can't stand the lieing,two faced,control freak manipulating sh.t.The sooner he's gone from the game the better.I think of old Bob Paisley and then think of that piece of crap and it doesn't take a genius to work out who was the gentleman.

Just waiting for Fergie to "do a Cloughie" and stay on 1 year too many and take them down to the Championship.

I wasnt around when shankly was at Liverpool but wish I was anyway, I taped some program's off LFC about him and watched them with my kids and all I can say is Wow what a absolute gent and true legend and what got me was his aura that he gave off, even my kids shutted up and listened to him talk and all I can say is what a honor for a supporter to have a figure to represent us,cheers pk

02 Dec 2012 09:59:49
All these talk about Sterling. I am not sure how true is all these rumours about him demanding massive wages. If they are true, my opinion let him go. If he has no respect for the shirt and the club and the fans, then let him go. No player is irreplaceable. Sterling should respect the fact that it was LFC who developed him and it was LFC who gave him a chance at 17. If he does not respect that he is no good in the LFC shirt. Other players left the club for money and glory( i will not mention any names)and look at the now. From legends to rubbish.

As far as sturridge is concerned I am not convinced he is what we need at the club.

I would say yes for walcott but not for sturridge.

jole cole on about 100k a week, hednerson and downing on god knows what, all three of them on the bench due to sterling, sterling better than all three of them put together! why can he not ask for 50k a week? we all know what happens when BR plays hardball over wages! thing back to the sigurdsson deal! {Ed001's Note - because he hasn't earnt it yet. He is a kid and he needs to grow up and keep it in his pants before he deserves high wages. Is 20k a week not enough for him?? He is playing every week for a great club at the age of 17, that should be reward enough.}

Joe Cole is not a standard to measure future contracts against. It's a daft argument to say Sterling deserves X because Cole's on Y. His wage was a mistake we're desperately trying to correct and not make again. And don't believe media BS that suggests Hendo/Downing are on £70K or whatever either

Well said ed

JJ

Im with you Ed, id rather Sterling be on his way than pay ridiculous money to a 17 year old brat that hasnt earned it yet.

BrisbaneLFC

If we give Sterling 50k now, what happens in 3 years time when he is still only 20 and he wants 100k on his new contract? Then in three or four years time he wants 150k-200k? We cant give him it all at once and let him believe he is bigger than the club.

Jay

Ed...you are true...but what kinda standards you kept wen giving downing and henderson and caaroll the wages?
if performance...then i dont have any answer... {Ed001's Note - their wages are not relevant, especially when Henderson is not on much over 20k a week anyway.}

Trouble is if we don't give him £40k a week, Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Spurs & Utd probably will and we will lose one the brightest English talents for next to nothing.

To replace Sterling with a player of similar ability, we would have to spend big money (which we simply don't have) and no doubt pay the player more than the £40k a week Sterling is demanding.

Eds, what will happen with Suarez now regarding yellow cards? When he returns from his one match ban, will he have a clean slate ie he needs to get another five before he is banned again? {Ed001's Note - yes, 10 yellow cards is the next ban, not a clean slate though as the ban is longer for reaching 10 yellow cards in a season.}

Raheem sterling claims he hasn't received a new contract. BR wants to bully the star to sign without getting a contract. Its clear BR has no experience in dealing with big starts. He has never been in this situation before. Can't blame him, small team manager can't put it behind him. He is dealing with big money stars.
Going to the media and calling him a fool isn't good enough for a LFC manager. He should apologise and get a contract to Sterling"s agent before saying anything else.
Small time manager who accidentailly arrived at LFC. {Ed002's Note - Nonsense. Rodgers is not responsible for contracts.}

-Any interest from Liverpool on Ajax Victor Fisher? i remember he played well and caused our youngster a lot of problem in youth tournament. He also can play winger right?

Thnx eds.
Good win for us vs Soton. We should've score more in this game. Happy to see Lucas back.

I could understand the original anger of letting Carroll go with just Borini and Suarez left as the two senior strikers listed in the squad, however is it really true that if West Ham avoid relegation, they must buy Carroll for £17m? Is there any confirmation of this?

If so this could be a great bit of business by Liverpool, he's already set to miss 3 months of football if you combine the two months he is out for now with the month he missed earlier in the season.

They have the possibility to buy him at that price, I don't think they are binded by contract.

he's is been injured and crap for most part of the season so far and westham have to be dumber than u fools to pay u guys 18m to buy him. looks like u will be stuck with him for one more year atleast. Buy the have a gr8 season(s) of transition

West Ham will remain in the Prem and he will recover from injury. West Ham will be obliged contractually to buy him for £17m. Smart move from Rodgers.

I believe the contract states that if west ham stay in the premier league that they will purchase Carroll personably for a decent fee (£17-18mill last I heard). Hes your flop now :).

Would somebody please translate this gobblygook into English for me. Thank yoy

Don't listen to the negative press..raheem and his reps can't demand 50k..they are just trying to make liverpool feel he is irreplacable,and put themselves in a strong position to negotiate..and if raheem wants 50k he should better go play for another club,who would pay him that kind of money and the first team football he gets at liverpool..so I don't believe he would stagnate his career that is just beginning

Raheem can do 2 thing . distroy his carreer for few thound pound or can be next C.Ronaldo if he join team like city or chelsea for money then he will lost his 1st team football warming bench and may lost his touch. the guy just 18 he can earn hell of money in his whole life just be paitent 2/3 more year.

I know its not gonna happen but I really wish that LFC and everyone associated with LFC would refuse interviews to the BBC and all the other anti Liverpool media outlets . They treat us with utter disregard, so why not give it back to them. The BBC give us the last slot on MOTD almost every week (we moved up 1 place this week).At first it didn't bother me, but its got to a point where I think they must be going out of their way to try and antagonise us. They didn't even bother to analyse the game this week. They showed very brief highlights of the game then simply moved on to QPR. And with regards to the newspaper reporting, Ok, we lost against Spurs but in the 2nd half we put up a very good fight, and at the very least deserved a point. But, If you didn't go to the game but read the papers the next day you would think that Bale absolutely battered us on his own for 90mins
At the time I wished Kenny would be a little more open with the media, but once again KK you've proved that you know best, and that you saw the media for what they were.

And on a side note, Eds, not that i'm doubting or questioning your info/knowledge but almost every player thats gets randomly touted on here, it seems AC milan are after. They must share their scouting network with tottenham.

Try not to perpetuate the 'victim' myth. I saw BBC coverage regards Spurs & it was flattering toward us not them. Having a lower slot on MOTD is part of being currently mid-table, it's life. There is no dark agenda.

Yip your right about papers especially the DM , I've noticed they can't wait for something not to do with football to run us down , I don't go near there site simply as that.
As for motd we aren't fighting for 4 place yet so we don't deserve to be one of the highlighted game's .
Us Liverpool fans think it is our right to be mentioned with the big boy's of the premiership well it's not we have to earn it .
Shout and be heard get behind the team and hopefully we can earn our right like every other team.
Wake up fsg and support our manager

Switch off the BBC and watch the games on the Internet

After the lies from the media over Hillsbourgh you can see a trend of anti LFC ( and Liverpool as a city) mush coming out from a pro Manc media.
We will continue to see this as they try to deflect the role of the media and the FA in the Hillsbourgh cover up.
They will make out everything we do is bad so not to look at them.
We don't forget and will not rest until justice is done.

Disagree with the above poster there has been an anti Liverpool agenda for 23 years & it will continue for a little while longer after the media/establishment were forced into grovelling apologies in the attempt to avoid litigation,the testing of alcohol in the system of dead (possibly still alive) 10 year old boy (amongst others) & the subsequent collusion with the police/establishment is a dark agenda the media tricks are just tactics to permeate the myth of moaning scousers we will simply have to be better in all areas of our thinking we should not be difficult....

Just watched the MLS final, Robbie Keane looked in remarkably good form (against sub par opposition).
What do the eds think on trying to get him on Loan for a few months to tide us through to the summer before we sign a proper striker :D :D

As a Galaxy and LFC fan, the only one from LA I would consider having in red is Jack McBean (for the academy, not the first team, obviously).

Can we stop thinking of getting our old players & just move on!!

Chaki

Wouldnt have him near the place the man is full of it and thinks he is a cut above everyone else. A very average player

I'm going to be consistent and maintain that the result is all important.
Couldn't give a fig how we played, how we failed to convert chances and how we faded in the 2nd half.

If we do that every game until the end of the season and win them all 1-0 I won't be concerned.

Looks like the Mirror are stirring again. How can Sterling be a "contract rebel" when he's legally too young to sign one.

Really starting to dislike that paper!

Yeah, ridiculous expression.

Br can't handle him. he can't accept that raheem is a star n demands what he deserves.Lfc should pay him top wages if they need his services. imagine cole at 90grand.

Thats allrite for u to say that but its not u thats gonna pay it he is too young and may loose his form and be another cole to be paid that kind of money

...if you will take notice of the mirror!?

Cole is an established footballer and won lots of silverware , as it stands could forget more about football than sterling knows. He is a star granted, but he needs to play a season or two to earn his reported 50-60k deal.

It's been the 'Manchester time's' for years, regardless of scouse journalists working for them.

A paper full of tripe and celebrity shabite.

Not only is the last poster (declaring BR can't handle RS) factually wrong (maybe you should have watched Being Liverpool properly!) but s/he sounds like a person that reacts to every newspaper story with negative vibes. Take a second and breath deep is my advice to you.
