Soldado is quality and the real deal. More likely to be top draw than de Jong. He would pay his transfer fee with CL qualification. Only problem, he would want to move to Madrid/ barça if it went well, whereas do Jong would probably stay. On balance I would still go for Soldado, then we will be having first dibs, or close, on the very best.

Soldado has already played for Real Madrid.

A nice 6 - nil win tomorrow night will see us in 4th spot!
Ultra red

I'd be happy with a 1-0, just as long as we get the three points. It will put us on the right track and will show our strength by being the 1st team to beat Man City at the Etihad Stadium this season.

Mate, its an league cup match not a premier league match

What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty ? Cant beileve some of you so called fans are giving in and agreeing with the FA. Ok to slate players and call for kenny to be sacked everytime we loose is one thing but giving in to thos corrupt f***s who have absolute no evidence besides one mans word is shame
And to those who are saying lets just give up and accept it..... Your forgeting where LFC your forgetting istanbul your forgetting we strive on these oppotunities and knock down who ever stands against us
as long as luis suarez is a liverpool player hell never walk alone

Why keep going on about buying a striker because of Suarez's ban? It's 8 games, for crying out loud.
Do you really think we would buy a player to cover such a short period?
We could well buy another striker but it's not because of the ban.

Rigsby.

8 crucial games. Suarez could even leave. Don't forget that every fan outside of Liverpool will hate him, and no matter how thick his skin is, why wouldn't he want to go to Madrid?

Suarez leaving and him being banned for 8 games are completely different things.
I can't comment on him leaving because I don't know anything about it. But I do know he's been given an 8 match ban, for which signing a replacement would be silly. Let's deal with facts.
Rigsby.

I know what your saying same with lucas why should we sign a replacement?
i do think that a striker should arrive in this window and a winger in the summer

02 Jan 2012 23:06:54
KD won't bother with a striker. Kuyt, Bellamy and Carroll can do a job up front. Just need to strengthen right side with someone like Andy Johnson and Carroll will start firing! Forget Torres, when he's not sulking he's injured.

Adam johnson surely?

Kuyt not looking the part this year, and Carroll will take some time. We need a poacher now. Every top squad has 3 or 4 good strikers.

Every squad has 3/4 good strikers?arsenal= rvp and Henry,Chelsea=drogba and sturridge,man utd=rooney and chicarito.There's only citeh who have got 3 good strikers

To be fair, Berbatov would qualify for a good striker if you include Henry, Drogba and Sturridge

Has henry signed yet

02 Jan 2012 23:00:33
I think we need to play Carroll tomorrow, We are to play with him a lot know when the ban kicks into place so he needs to build some match fitness and confidence - McMenemy

Carroll upfront alone.

Luis Suarez roaming

Henerson + Adam Man Marking *keeping eye on David

If Gerrard doesn't start i say don't start with Carroll

I must say guys, I understand how the Suarez situation looks bad... But this certainly isn't the worst thing to happen to us... (Anyone remember fowler snorting the goal line when loads of kids idolised him and he's like a god here still)! Like someone else said, a few anti-racism campaigns an apology and 2 months down the line the only people who will remeber this even happened is the dirty scum fans!

Let's get behind the whole team for the citeh game tomorrow, gerrards back, luis ban hasn't started yet and if lady luck is kind enough to smile on us perhaps citeh will be the team that gets the pasting that is definately due!

Hi Eds,

I was after your opinion on something, i have read read and heard stories of late about Saurez.

Apparently now that the club have received the report from the fa action might now be taken by the police, similar to the Terry case.

I have also heard that saurez is looking to move on because he doesnt feel he gets any protection within the EPL, and with every thing that has gone on he wants to get away from the league.

do you have any info on any of these stories? {Ed002's Note - The police aspects are a result of a statement by the Federation of Black Lawyers - it won't happen. The reprt was not from teh FA but an independent panel.}

The federation of black officers?how racist is that,you have the federation of black police officers,if you had a white federation of police officers the world would be in up roar,how much pc do they want,

02 Jan 2012 22:52:41
Time will tell if Kenny and Suarez have fallen out and a transfer request from Saurez turns out to be true - but it is clearly plausible and the very scenario I have been fearing for days. Liverpool are walking a tight rope here between support for their player and appearing to condone racist language. Despite the rights and wrongs of it all, it's all about perceptions. Ferguson and his poodle Evra have done us good and proper this time (in simple terms he knows how good Saurez is and was more than happy to pursue this with the knowledge of how it could turn out). Unfortunately Saurez's naivety and a willing FA have also contributed.
Vic

There's no tightrope being walked here. If LFC back their player to the hilt, why is that appearing to condone racist language??

Your caving in on the side of the "Is it because I is black" brigade. Like I've said previously, the whole thing is a result of Evra getting stitched up good and proper on the field of play by a superior footballer.
He knows it, Ferguson knows it and the FA panel fell for it (using linguistics experts from a Manchester University , no less!)
Evra's a proper w*nker - any one who has played the game at a reasonable level knows this.

Aside from that and not wishing to be cynical, did anyone notice that Ferguson seemed to have problems with Rooney immediately after the release of the report? He hasn't had a word to say on the PE/LS issue since, despite his involvement at the very basest level in this saga. He's a dog - greatest manager in the world? Slimey bar steward who will never be in the league of gentlemen like 3 x European Cup winning Mr Paisley, more like. Don't underplay his part in this race issue.

two unrelated things that could happen in the club this transfer window.

We have been looking around for a midfield player and now a cover striker for Luis ban.

1. We buy a striker + Midfield player for around £35 million. This could be possible. damien comoll has a £35m shopping budget

Liverpool where looking into buying a winger/midfield player and they also looking at cover player for Suarez's ban.

on the last day of the transfer window Suarez hands in a transfer request, the agent tells him to force a move through and move on away from england.

2. suarez hands in a transfer request and leaves for real madrid for £35 million.

Could it be possible that once the money has been paid for these two players and Suarez decides he has had enough of england.

1. FA Ban (8 match ban)
2. More wages if he moves + signing on bonus
3. New country, new start and more in the way from controversy
4. better weather in spain
5. everyone speaks spain,
6. real madrid are in champions league, great players like Ronaldo, jose mourinho is a great coach.

The next step in his career would a move to real madrid or even barcelona.

So what are you saying exactly? And why the obsession with 35 million?

Chris in Tamworth

Two points, Where did you get £35m from? and secondly if he wanted to go to Madrid he would have gone last year instead of coming here. Think you need to have a word with yourself Chris in Tamworth, and stay in Tamworth. He got a ban, big deal, he serves the ban and then we move on. He is not a racist. Too many people on here seem to be going on about this.

Sooty

Get a grip of yourself with the "Suarez leaving thing" will yer!

Your playing right into the hands of the likes of Ferguson and his spoilt brat of a left back!
Carl66

Well the club are looking to protect themselves against players leaving or injuries.

So will buy a players if they are about or make inquires ect.

But the magic transfer number must be the amount that Luis is worth at this moment in time. £35m

BTW he wouldnt get a game for Madrid anyway!

CT13

Give yr head a wobbele lad,if suarez was to go who would you shout for?has any liverpool player given you as much excitement as luis,he has made the scum defenders look like statues every time he has played against them,
you really want a player of his calibre to leave lfc?cos im sure i dont,and im sure the whole of the epl would want to keep seeing the likes of LS inepl,i know he will get bood everytime he plays but im sure,rival fans would rather boo a superstar like him than a nobody,i really hop to god he dosent get sold,

If Torres was your First love Let it go he's gone. Like your mum would tell you Never go back it just wouldn't would out. But in the future you will look back and think she was a bit of a old dog anyway!!!! Oh! and remember she cheated on you.

Dont always take any notice of yr mum,when i was a teen every girl i took home my would say,oh shes not right for you,shes a flighty madam,shes too fat,shes too thin,so i eventually met a girl just like my mum,took her home and my dad didnt like her,jimmybosun

There's nothing better than unrequited love

But then we took Carroll home to meet our mums and she wasn't impressed. And that nice Luis, he bit mum's Yorkshire Terrier and abused her next door neighbour, Mr.Patel.
Come back, Fernando; all is forgiven.....ha ha, only joking.

Question end's? 1st when lucas got hurt KK was doing a interview and a reporter asked him if he considered bringing Aqua back and he said if the reporter looked at the situation that he couldn't come back. Is that because AC Milan have played Aqua in the required number of games for them to buy him? If so when would the sale take place this window or summer. Just wondering because that money could be put in the transfer pot.

Also can Joe Coles loan be turned into a transfer this window?

---Jester--- {Ed001's Note - you can't recall a player when the loaning team pays a fee for the loan.}

ED, I am confused people are putting Suarez in there ideal team for tommorrow, so have I missed something is he eligiable and why?, when he wasn't for newcastle...or was he? -McMenemy {Ed001's Note - he had a one game ban for the Fulham finger.}

Thank you understood, He is still eligible because of the appeal stage, I thought that ended before Newcastle game, but he was just serving the finger ban...sorted -McMenemy

Is that like tennis elbow ed?

The Real KB, I thought you were joking earlier when you talked about Matt Sparrow but maybe not! He's scored 2 tonight and one of them a screamer! Are you some kind of soothsayer?

Sparrow could help us get that one leg back on our perch.

02 Jan 2012 22:29:30
My team would be usual 5 (although I rate Kelly higher than Johnson)
Midfield - Spearing, Gerrard, Bellamy, Kuyt
free role - Suarez
Up front - Carroll

Outfield Subs - Hendo, Maxi, Adam, Carra, Downing,

It's goals we need and except for Maxi the starting forward 6 offer the best chance of them. I like Maxi but this will be a physical encounter more suited to Kuyt and Dirk has a habit of finding goals in big games.
This would give the newbies a chance to see the standards Luis, Stevie and Bellers can set plus keep the momentum of Gerrard supplying Carroll, given Andy netted twice against them last year also.
Don't expect it's how KK will go as he seems to prefer his own signings but it's all about opinions eh.......ALB

How the FA withheld vital Evra evidence from Liverpool
Is this true or bull, just found it, here is the link

I see so wouldnt make a difference to an appeal?.

i feel for saurez, evra has well over reacted again and got someone in big trouble scum. {Ed002's Note - All of this clutching at straws seems to assume Suarez was not defended, but he was.}

Suarez and Kenny have apparently fallen out due to the club wanting to withdraw their appeal against Suarez ban. The club (j Henry) feel that if they persue this appeal it may hurt their global image, and his image as owner in his persuit of investment both at Liverpool and his other ventures. Suarez feels let down by the club as such and has apparently threathened to stick in a transfer request as a result of Henry sticking his nose in, hense the falling out with kenny who supports henry!

Complete Rubbish.

Either party now has the right to an appeal and must reply by 13 January 2012.

If liverpool carry on with the appeal. Suarez can carry on playing,

Interesting post from Prof of Hispanic Studies at Brown Uni in USA ripping apart the linguistic evidence in Suarez case

forums.liverpoolfc.tv/showpost.php?p=6859329&postcount=1148

tweeted by ian rush

Interesting report. If it is true...is it racist to say 'dont touch me, South American'. Would it be racist to say 'dont touch me, black'? Is one worse than the other? Minefield.

It's hard to judge whether anything is acceptable based on the views of the USA. They haven't even signed up on human rights after all. (laughable I know)

You may as well go to North Korea to get your standards..... At least they respect International law there......

BJH YNWA.

The US have there own form of human rights in their constitution, they cannot joining the ECHR as they are not part of Europe. They were one of the major nations in the creation of the United Nation (UN) and drafting up the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In saying that European protocols have more structure and protection for their society. Plus you still have capital punishment in some states, but my post is just to say they still have human rights procedures.

Ed,

Do you know if we ever scout the asian leagues? There are some excellent players in japan, especially youngsters. They usually have a high level of natural fitness and are very professional and hard working.

Rewflo {Ed001's Note - I don't know sorry.}

We recently took a couple of youngsters from Asia on trial there coming back in the new year and apparently were establishing some good cone toons within the Asian leagues. Read it on lfc.tv

Really looking forward to the match tomorrow night. We've nothing to fear playing City, on our day we are as good as any team, in the PL. We've got Luis and Steve back and i'm really looking forward to watching both play together, it's been a while.

Totally agree with Rewflo's earlier post, we should leave the Luis discussion, for now. Let the club, Luis, FA and the owners, sort this issue out. We can do nothing to help or hinder, this process.

Would love to read some posts on formations, who should start,.should Stevie start? etc, etc. Lets get behind all our players ( not just Luis) for tomorrows massive game.

Blair.Mayne YNWA JFT96

I'll bet anyone a 20 spot that Jay Spearing is surgically attached to David Silva tomorrow.
The Real KB

After the Newcastle performance, i'd keep the same line-up but stick Stevie in for Hendo.

Just thought he looked a bit lost in the last game myself.

I'd also swap Johnson for Kelly but that's unlikely to happen..

Stu.

I would play the same team that beat Newcastle. If Bellamy can't play I would bring Gerrard in to play RM and whip those crosses into Carroll, and move Downing to LM. I think that team has a solid look about it with lots of attacking options and potential goal scorers.

I personally don't think Suarez is suited to the lone striker role so I would start him from the bench and use him as an impact sub if and when required.

JRG

Henderson = man marking David Silva

its a game for kuyt, Carrol, Suarez, Downing

Great job with the site lads! looking at all the posts it's funny how everyone is so quick to write off carrol! he hasnt been starting week in week out and i thought he had a good game against newcastle ( despite a few mishaps in front of goal ) on the whole he impressed me. when we have stevie G whipping in top quality crosses nobody can handle him in the air ( not even the over rated super Gary Cahill soon to be playing alongside super JT). Im not saying we shouldn't buy another striker to cover for the suarez ban and any injuries we might pick up over this busy period, but we don't want to spend over the odds for an average player like Darren Bent, yes he scores the odd goal but he not got the quality that us LFC fans pay to see week in week out and he's hardly spring chicken anymore! I like the look of luuk de jong and believe he would be a great signing. I desperately think we need a top quality right winger, Adam Johnson seems like the perfect man for us, skill pace, excitment and he scores goals. He would also link well with players such as henderson, downing and gerrard. He has the ability to play balls along the ground for suarez and whip in a cross for AC. Is it likely that luuk de jong and adam johnson (who hasn't featured too regularly for citeh this season) will join in january or do you see us waiting until the summer land some top players?

Adam johnson is too similar to downing . we need a right footed right winger

No point in thinking like that.

A right footed winger may well play on the left under Kenny. I hate it too. But Kenny is the boss. We'll see how it goes. He's not doing Downing any favours playing him on the right imo. But at least he's better than Kuyt there - he can at least maintain possession of the ball!

BJH YNWA.

team for tomorow should be : reina , johnson , skrtel , agger , enrique , spearing , adam , gerrard , bellamy , suarez , downing .. a massive result is on the cards i think ..

No. Carroll must play and he must play at least 60 minutes. He has got to get the game-time to sharpen up otherwise once Suarez's ban starts we will have serious problems. RED LENIN

Liverpool should start looking at more top players if we want to earn a place in the champions league . Players like bent and tiote that I've heard people say might be interested in signin don't step up to the mark . It would be godd for the club If we good sign a world class player

...oh yeah! Thanks for your input.

Vingaard of kobenhavn? Ganso of santos? Vargas or biglia of anderlecht? Dempsey of fulham? Mavuba of Lille? Farfan of schalke? Barnetta of Leverkusen? Dos santos of spurs? Danny of zenit? McGeady of spartak? Shaqiri of Basel? Jus a few players I rate at the moment I have picked realistic targets in my opinion we need to start signing the best players available! Some may disagree but I would of had Landon Donovan he can play on either flank or upfront think he would have done a job as a loanee. If u agree with everything or parts what I've suggested or said click believable if not the unbelievable cheers lads!

You're obviously deluded if you rate Mcgeady

No actually he's a gd player

McGeady very nearly ended up at Anfield but it required Babel to go to Birmingham as part of a merry-go-round and the deal collapsed. He even changed agents in readiness. Good player at times, off field lifestyle not top flight standards.

He defo is an LFC mate. I watched an interview he did for football focus (i think) whilst he was at Southampton. He said his team was LFC and he watched the 2005 CL final, in the local pub. He had to carry his dad home that night because his dad was also a massive LFC fan and was 'celebrating' too much and could barely stand. His dad was singing YNWA all the way home, which was quite 'embarrassing' he said.

The linguistic abilities of the FA are completely under question here, and they seem to have been key in their grounding of the case. Let's see how lousy their understanding and use of Spanish language is, by looking in detail at just another part of the reasons alleged by the FA:

"284 (...) Mr Comolli said to the referee that Mr Evra first said "you
are South American" to Mr Suarez who responded with "Tues Negro" which translates as
"you are black"." Endquote.

It is ridiculous that the FA, after careful consideration of everything, would even consider relevant whatever Mr Comolli might have understood from Suárez, when it is clear Mr Comolli can barely understands what he himself is trying to say in Spanish. I say this because "tues" is no Spanish word. And "tues negro" cannot be translated at all—let alone into what the FA says it means. It's simply not a Spanish expression, so it cannot be "translated". Comolli recollection from his chat with Suárez just after the match is unreliable. A pity since it arrived to the FA jury through a Liverpool official, but the language is so ridiculously wrong it makes me laugh.

In sum: Suárez could not have even said "tu eres" negro, which would be gramatically correct in Madrid, because in the Rio de la Plata area we would never say "tu eres negro", but "vos SOS negro". And that is a fact, not a matter of the opinion of anyone, not even the language experts consulted by the FA, of course. I am a native speaker of Montevideo, a PhD in Spanish by Stanford, and currently a professor of Spanish at Brown University, and if I was called to court on this, I would categorically deny that Suarez, who lived his adult life in Montevideo—despite being born in Salto—could have said other than "vos sos negro". There is no way in the world he could have said to Evra, spontaneously and as a reaction to Evra's words and attitudes, "porque tu eres negro"—and much less "tues negro", that doesn't exist. Simply "tues" is no Spanish.
Despite of that, the FA makes it stand and transcribes it in their report, and substantiate their conviction on these words.

***

Reading Evra's statement, I understand it could happen that Evra misunderstood Suárez at some point. When Suárez said "¿por qué, negro?", Evra might have assumed that as a racial insult, while Suárez—even in the heat of a discussion—could perfectly have said that as a way of normally expressing himself (not exactly to calm Evra down, but just because he normally would talk like that without thinking about it). This point is where the cultural clash seems more important, and it is working against Suárez because nobody in the jury (let alone the Daily Mail kind of media) seems to even start understanding the common way we use the term "negro" in the Rio de la Plata area. They heard their experts, and their experts explained the different options of our use of the word depending on different contexts and intentions. Then, the jury just decided that the whole thing was an equally aggressive clash by both sides, and because of that, they concluded Suárez could have not use the "negro" word to Evra in a descriptive way. Why? Their interpretation is not clear to me and doesn't seem to be the only one possible. "¿Por qué, negro?" (after Evra said "Don't touch me you South American") is not offensive, but a question, and a very common one indeed, where "negro" is a DESCRIPTIVE noun, not an adjective loaded with a negative connotation. I completely understand why a British or an American might start not understanding the tone or the intention from Suárez. But I myself can clearly understand the account Suárez does and it seems consistent to me. I hear it more as a common (unmarked and uncharged) addressing to Evra.

Finally, the whole verdict seems to be grounded on 3 elements:
1) The FA tends to believe Evra is more reliable than Suarez (a purely subjective element)
2) The FA does not seem to have understood the Spanish language allegedly used --even though they grounded they verdict on their own interpretation of that very Spanish language.
3) They believe the word "negro" cannot be used just in a descriptive way in the context of a discussion--which means they don't really understand how we do use it in the Rio de la Plata area. This made them feel Suarez was unreliable and probably aggravated them.

A pity. The most important thing here has to do with proportion. Suárez's name has been destroyed and now the FA has shown there is NO EVIDENCE whatsoever of Suarez saying any of the things Evra attributes to him, exception made of Evra's own statement.

Evra convinced the FA. And I wonder how much of racial prejudice (against the "wild animals" South Americans are supposed to be after Alf Ramsey's famous remark) there is at play on the FA and media heads.
jimmybosun {Ed002's Note - It was nothing to do with the FA - they did not hear the case nor write the report. There were also language experts used. I assume you have taken this from elsewhere otherwise you could not be so wildly wrong in what you have said.}

I think we should leave this discussion now. Nothing more can be said, and no amount of discussion will change anything.

Rewflo

The language experts said that the words
used could mean iether of the interpretations depending who you believe .
soul man,

This post needs to be sent to the language experts at manchester university . who by their translation sent luis to the gallows

Well said totally agree and it is most certainly not wildly wrong! {Ed002's Note - So you think all of the references to the "FA" are correct?}

I have to agree in part with the above poster, A South American linguist would have a different slant than an English one......That said we will never beat the FA they hold all the cards and pull the strings....accept the ban and move on, Utd had to do the same in the end after backing Cantona...I also think that the FA has appointed Atkinson for the match against City on purpose, that is to cause a crowd reaction against him,,,I can't make the match tomorrow but I ask all LFC fans not to berate the referee, you fans are the main stay of the club show the media we can support our team and support it with respect the media and FA would love an adverse reaction. Bobbinred
lets have headlines on Wednesday by beating City.

I really dont understand where you are coming from here ED02 ? The post was very well written and clearly he knows what he is talking about. the least you can do is accept that there could be some grain of truth in what has been said. I am a little dissapointed in your response to be fair

tel 1949 {Ed001's Note - because it was not the FA, how difficult is it to understand that it was an independent committee and not the FA?}

The difference between Cantona drop kicking a spectator, and Suarez 'supposedly' saying something to Evra with no witnesses is hardly comparable is it ?

Chill guys, the legal team will tear it to pieces and humiliate the fa et al, the fa will end up eating humble pie, again ! {Ed002's Note - You have a real shock coming.}

ED I totally understand it was not the FA, thats is not the issue. the MAIN issue is that the evidence used against Suarez is flawed and the independant panel have taken Evras word against Suarez. there were no witnesses and if youve seen the video that shows the start of this whole affair i.e the kick on Evras knee, it is an absolute joke. suarez did not kick his kneew, and it most certainly wasnt a dangerous or dirty tackle. Evras rolles around on the floor like hes been pollaxed! there is a clear injustice here and that is why a lot of LFC fans are disgusted, including me.

what I find even more annoying is that everyone tries to pick on the fact that is wasnt the FA, so what is was still an unsound verdict based on the panels law of probability and the evidence of Evra.

Evra initiated all this on the basis that Suarez called him a n*****. Fergie then went to the refs and said Suarez has called Evra a n******. Now Evra admits that he did not use this term and that Suarez is not racist. This is all so wrong and I am not a hppy bunny as you can imagine.

Sorry to say it how I feel it, but its the way I was brought up and I always will speak what I believe is the truth!

tel 1949

I think that is the problem an issue such as this is to much for the FA hence the evidence was given to the panel, one could argue that the FA pays the panel so could have some influence on the out come. In my opinion having a QC to chair the panel was a mistake. A QC is employed to get results for their clients a guilty or not guilty verdict.
I think the FA should really think about having an outside body like the Sports Council to investigate the more serious cases of this nature...Bobbinred {Ed002's Note - A QC was agreed jointly to chair the panel and he was not a client of the FA. Also, the panel were not paid by the FA, they were paid by Suarez.}

Hi ed

that piece was actually by a Professor of Hispanic Studies at brown university

Sorry to cause a stir eds,i know it wasnt the fa but a panel acting on their behalf,but i would sooner trust a phd from usa than anyone chosen by the fa,jimmybosun,

The difference between Cantona drop kicking a spectator, and Suarez 'supposedly' saying something to Evra with no witnesses is hardly comparable is it ?

If your refering to a previous post I made, I was making a comparison with the two cases over the media attention, and the fact that united did not lose any financial gain by the outcry...Bobbinred

Even more reason to find him guilty

But this QC was put forward by the FA, he has represented the FA in many cases...Bobbinred {Ed002's Note - He was agreed by both parties and paid for by Suarez. Questioning the membership is something to be done at the start not the end of the case.}

Again Wenger moaning about the ref when getting beat.

KT!

Watched the game . if luis does want to go in the summer because of the fall out then dembele would be the ideal replacement for me . same as luis only more stronger and quicker . has fantastic ability and potential . ideally would like to see him next to louis and stevie frightening

Dembele's good but Not on Suarez's level, saying that i reckon he is a good player and could be a good player for a to team.

Ruiz is looking good also after a horrible start to life in the prem

Liverpool definately have to buy a finisher. Looks at the amount of sitters we have missed and the amount of points we have dropped against the poor sides (norwich, swansea etc..) I think if we had a world class finisher upfront with Suarez then we'd definately be 1-3 in the table. I don't know what strikers we are looking at but I get a feel Kuyt and Maxi will leave, they just don't look happy on the bench. Meaning we will probably need to sign a winger as well as a striker. If Hazard goes to Man City then I suspect Adam Johnson will be leaving, he'd be a world class signing imo. Also alot of rumours about Bent going around, I wouldn't mind him to be honest.

Thank you for telling us all what the whole world already knows.

BooDaBooze

Credit where credit is due - Norwich and Swansea put up a fantastic fight, and it's not fair to call them "poor".

02 Jan 2012 19:59:04
I don't no if this has come up but eds do you no of any bosmans that are available and would boast the quality of the squad? Pops. {Ed002's Note - They do not become available in January at all.}

02 Jan 2012 19:50:27
ed do you reckon the ban would be a blessing in disguise? with him burning the candle at both ends over the summer then back in if he gets a break we could see him finishing shots hes missing at the moment i know people arnt decided on what to think about the thing with evera not even getting a ban or anything id like to see what the clubs next move is i have been south for a few days so dont know what people think anyone with abit to put it is welcome:)

jayblair89 {Ed002's Note - The case and the ban is not any type of blessing.}

Nor you got me wrong ed i dnt mean it like tht obviously he will be missed badly i mean he needs a break he hasnt had one since january last year playing in the copa america during the summer i mean abit of rest might do the lad some good

jayblair89 {Ed002's Note - Sure he will be getting a break.}

I dont think ed002 has got you wrong at all!

Maybe a satanic blessing

Yeah, I agree. Was a blessing when Gerrard got injured too. And when Houllier had heart problems...

Ummm no, they are all really bad things. I think what you meant to say is that the one (and only) positive that can be taken is that Suarez will get a rest.

Well if you think so put your name with the post im putting my point across if you got an opinion id love to hear it :) otherwise leave it at that

Tht wot im exactly saying im what else would i be saying apart from tht i love the lad to pieces and i hope he proven not guilty

C'mon you Reds!!

So we've got the best defence in the league, our captain is back and a win tomorrow will put us right in the mix for CL. We're still in two cup competitions and we are playing good attacking footie.
Apart from missing a few chances I don't see what all the fuss is about...everything seems to be going according to plan..?

ps. Shame about Arsenal! :-)

I think that Twitter should be banned full stop. It should just be renamed stalker.

Nope, Facebook, and I'm guessing, no?

02 Jan 2012 18:52:31
Hi ed's any news on any incoming transfers for january? Seems easier this way then asking random names a may have heard on other sites... {Ed002's Note - None.}

02 Jan 2012 18:52:08
Eds would walcott be a possibility? I didn't believe he was a supporter untill checking wikipedia. Him and downing on each wing would be dangerous. Also podolski? Thanks {Ed002's Note - Read the posts please.}

Walcott is not good enough, i like him as a player but he is not what we need right now.

Agreed! The name walcott would raise the price on that boy and we would pay ~20M for a player that possibly could become good but is s**te in arsenal and has been s**te for too long.

02 Jan 2012 18:37:45
One thing I know for sure is that LFC are in the market to get a defensive midfielder as as well as a striker. We are definitely going to get two players in this window {Ed002's Note - So Dalglish did lie then.}

No he isnt! striker yes, everything else remains to be seen.

ACHILLES.

Why would we be in for a dm when jay spearing signined a new contract last year lol think about it realistically please. All i can say is if i was kenny i would try and sign a natural right winger and a striker. (if available)

Daniel Hanwell

02 Jan 2012 18:26:19
I would take Walcott if he's going, he has blistering pace something we lack, OK his end ball is a bit lacking at times but if Andy Carroll is one for the future Walcott is actually younger than him.

GuvTOB

Walcott isnt a football player. He is a sprinter that accidentally got signed in football.

02 Jan 2012 18:18:19
"When you speak to the younger lads like Martin Kelly and Jay Spearing and see them in the first team now, you see the impact he's had on their careers and he should take a great deal of credit for their development"

Reina
Johnson skrtl agger Enrique
Adam spearing
Gerrard Suarez Bellers
Carroll

Team for tomorrow against city!

Yeah but 4-1-2-3 with Spearing in front of back 4, Adam and Gerrard as the 2 and Andy up front with Suarez right and Bellars left.

Agree completely, I didn't know whether to put henderson instead of adam but i think Adam is more experienced. I think he'll play downing instead of bellers cuz of is knees.

02 Jan 2012 18:10:23
Hi Eds,

Noticed a lot of people are talking about Theo Walcott signing for us, I don't know how likely that is but from what I have seen of Walcott he has pace to burn as we all know but we also know that his crosses aren't usually up to scratch, this would essentially just leave us in the same situation as we are in now, great getting to the line but finishing the move with a bad cross.

What I was wondering then is if they would be looking to use Walcott as a striker rather than a winger, he says striker is his prefered position.
What do you think?

Ashy

I don't see how Walcott can say he's a stiker, he can't hit a barn door, he's got pace and that's it

Well I'm not exactly a Walcott fan I was just trying to figure out why we might sign him. I have personally never seen him play in a direct strikers roll, and also every player performs differently in different teams.

Ashy

The wallcot has pace, control and intelligence and he's young and English. With the right guidance and training he can improve. Would be a positive signing considering right wingers are hard to find nowadays.
Daniel Hanwell

Control and intelligence?
Theo Walcoot lacks ability in both of those areas, especially intelligence.

KT!

He definitely does not have intelligence. He is mentally slow on the pitch which is why when he has no space to sprint to he is disposessed easily.

If we force a replay against Oldham in the cup and go through! that's three games of his ban gone already if round 4 is in the right time, so will defo be back for the spam game and kick Evras apse and make him look like a complete Muppet for 90 minutes again!
Or am i getting this completely wrong!

Add that to the two games against city in the Carling cup that's three games (red Card) LOL

I would like us to go for Theo Walcott.He 's now the right Age to come down and play for his beloved LFC.I think he would deffo give us another dimension going forward and on his day can be frightening.Come on Kenny lets get him, Theo would play for the shirt.He and his father are life long Liverpool fans.I for one would love to see him flying down towards the Kop in our shirt.

Micheal Mouse

Another Babel?

Did no one see him play at the weekend when he was through on goal?

ACHILLES.

He lacks confidence which I believe KK / Stevie and the Kop could give him. He cant be worse than Downing at shooting plus he always beats his man and at least he looks up for a pass ahead of him and is not so bloody conservative.

From a post above

Did no one see him play at the weekend when he was through on goal?

No more wasteful than suarez

Happy new year everyone. Hi eds i know that bellamy as bad knees do you think he could start tomorrow so soon after newcastle?

Also would it be fair to say that this transfer window is still pretty unclear and team are keeping there cards close to there chest.

Also a very sad day today Gary Ablett was one of my favourite players when i was growing up and always looked happy.

Rip Gary Ablett

mighty reds

Regarding Bellamy that will be down to our staff, also remember he suffered a facial injury in that game.
RIP Gary Ablett

My sincere condolences to Gary Abletts family.
Idid not know Gary but bumped into him quite regularly over a number of years,he was always very friendly,smiling and had no trace of the arrogance that a lot of footballers show.
A gentleman and no mean player into the bargain , a very sad loss.

R.I.P Gary

Hi Eds

I am very surprised that Å ime Vrsaljko has not been mentioned by anyone yet. He is a very good young RB and with Johnson supposedly leaving in the summer surely he would be the ideal replacement. Also will Gerrard be starting tomorrow?

Cheers Benno

{Ed002's Note - I assume he is very good on the football fantasy games.}

02 Jan 2012 17:33:02
Personally, i believe we need a right back, as Johnson is a decent player, but i don't feel he is good enough if we want to progress, we need a strong, reliable centre back and we also need a fast, skillful, right winger.

I personally would like to see this line-up:

Pepe Reina

Kyle Walker
Martin Skrtel
Gary Cahill
Jose Enrique

Hulk
Steven Gerrard
Lucas Leiva
Stewart Downing

Luis Suarez
Gonzalo Higuaín

Subs:

Brad Jones
Daniel Agger
Charlie Adam
Dirk Kuyt
Craig Bellamy

So i'd buy:

Kyle Walker - 15-20 million
Gary Cahill - 7+ million
Hulk - 20-25 million
Gonzalo Higuaín - 25+ million

This is the type of player's I believe we need to buy in order to progress the way we all want LFC to, we need to be spending money on BIG PROVEN players, not players like Andy Carroll who played well for 5-6 month in a team who play a totally different style of football to us.

We may spend between 70-90 million, but I believe we need to!

I'd also loan out players like:

Jordan Henderson
Sebastian Coates
Jay Spearing
Danny Wilson

Try and loan them to either Premier League or Championship teams, they need more playing time, in order for them to progress they way they can.

LOL What a load of cr*p. There is nothing wrong with our defence, plus we have Kelly for right back.

And as for Spearing and Henderson, they are doing great for us.

Martin Kelly...

Kelly is more than able to fill Johnsons boots

Hendo is coming along nicely.

Spearing is required as cover.

Dont need Walker, we have Martin Kelly

All the best.

KNEE JERK

Why is there so many people on here saying they would bench anger? The way he is playing just now... Get a grip. There isn't another CB in the country that I would put in his place.

Spearing isn't doing great for us at all, 3 games, 1 red card, no assists, no goals -_- hmmmmmmm

Hulk? 20-25 million? You must be joking man. His buy out clause is 100 million, Chelsea were looking to bid 84 million for him to try and swipe him away from Porto.

Henderson loaned? No way, he's already made 21 appearances this season, he's going to be fantastic.

Gary Cahill instead of Agger? Kyle Walker instead of Martin Kelly?

You must be joking.

RenegadeRed

Spearing is a defensive midfielder you tool, check out how many tackles he has won instead of goals etc

Fantasy Football by original poster and cant believe the amount of agrees, you will all be disspointed when the window shuts.

Too many spam fans on here, because no Liverpool fan will be pressing disagree to Martin Kelly being a first class replacement to Johnno.
Kelly is top draw, and kyle walker 20m?
You mad?

I Think it's obvious to everyone who has read this that you know nothing about liverpools strength and weaknesses and you should never try and be a manager even on fifa.

Daniel Hanwell

Noticed no name on this one eh ed, whoever they are they need to have a serious word with themselves or go back to their own page...Seriously though, why do a number of people want to change our defence. It's currently the best in the premiership, the table doesn't lie..

02 Jan 2012 17:11:59
On the suarez debate, the report released by the FA makes it obvious that any appeal wouldnt suceed IMO. If Liverpool bite the bullet and take the ban after the city game then he would be back for the United game in february (providing we beat Oldham on Friday). If we appeal then he would either get off (unlikely) or have his ban extended or rejected (more likely) which means that he would miss out on the run in towards the end of the season, something which could be very damaging to the chances of us getting top four.

I know we need to support Suarez etc. but the FA have made their report near watertight and as Suarez has admitted to using the word he has shot himself in the foot in effect.

I think we should take the ban after the City game and get him back in February

{Ed002's Note - There is no FA report on Suarez. Until somehow you grasp this you will probably never be able to understand what has happened.}

My apoligies, the independent panel

Lol We should do that so he can play the important games.

Sorry Ed but going on about exactly who wrote the report seems a bit odd. When that wasn't actually the point of this post. The tribunal may not have been exactly (FA) but as it was appointed by the FA, it was in effect the FA. Anyway, we get your point but please let people make their posts if the FA nomenclature accuracy isn't an issue?
Let's draw a line under this farce, and take the ban at the least damaging time. After the next game makes sense. Let's look forward to a fresh Luis to help our final months.
Cheers ND {Ed002's Note - No, you really don't understand. The FA got the report at the same time as Liverpool. They had no influence on it whatsoever they were one of the two parties in the case - the other being Suarez. The panel was entirely independent and was chaired by a Barrister who both parties agreed to. Many of the posts are failing to see the independence and are concluding it was a sham as the FA tried their own case.}

The report was independent; though some might question that - personally from that side I don't think it's worth the argument they have made a very tough decision in light of the Blatter comments and come out and taken a stand.

It's disappointing that due recognition was not given the the instigation of the incident by PE and the decision not at least made reference to the equality of future decision making where admission of the use of racial slurs are concerned - that would have been helpful.

What worries me more is the stance of the club, reading what I have LS has to recognise that he was at fault under the rules which apply here. I hope that 'no player is bigger than the club applies here' and common sense prevails!

Is the ban too heavy, IMO yes, a little. 6 matches (given the extent of ambiguity would have been more appropriate) and I do think that the club should as a measured and and balanced response should instigate and deliver a full cultural awareness programme for all non uk players that join the squad. This should could be part funded for the pro players and really should be a committed part of their contract to avoid this occurring again.

if that were the case, responsibility would lie with the player, as it should when their behaviour is in question...

LS is a brilliant light for the club, but please make a proportionate response and ask for a reduction withe the additional action taken by LFC - that would in my view be a sensible approach. Or, don't appeal and serve this penalty (after taking the three points away again tomorrow) just a point of view, but on this one everyone has one and it's passionately help.

Suffolk'n Red

I wrote this post and I have read the majority of the report and findings. IMO Suarez has been victim of the kick racism out and he isnt racist and he has shot himself in the foot for accepting that he used a word deemed racist in england.

There is absolutely no point in appealing, we dont have any support from the media and the football community in England and as much as they say they are not, there is an influence with this.

We should take the ban after the city game and have him back for the middle of Feb against Man UTD

Thanks Ed for your patience. I get your point now.
Cheers ND

Who appointed the "independent" panel???
The FA?
If yes, then this was not an independent investigation, how could it have been if so?
Toodles {Ed002's Note - Both parties agreed to a QC to Chair the panel and he appoint the two other members and one reserve member. It was independent.}

Fair enough then if so.
Silly boy Suarez then it seems.
Very very silly boy.

Hey Eds
Do you reckon Steven Fletcher starting on the bench today for Wolves has anything to do with a possible transfer? I know there has been a lot of games lately but surely Wolves would not leave him out of the starting 11 against Chelsea! Be good to know your opinions. {Ed002's Note - No. Do you think Steven Gerrard starting on the Liverpool bench for the last two games indicates a move?}

You got owned

LOL ed
Got to love him xxxx

02 Jan 2012 17:06:56
Just proves you don't need any kind of form to win these days all you need is luck. La pard should have been sent off then he wins the game right at the death. Shocking form this season lots of luck still in the cl race. Lfc are in good form but no luck and still in the cl race. If we get a bit of luck cl is in the bag arsenal have no depth to go all season rvp will burn out or get injured and arsenals goals will dry up bring on city let's give em a hiding

02 Jan 2012 16:51:59
I posted some days back on the potential outcomes relating to the Luis Suarez incident.
LFC find themselves in a difficult situation on the matter, in that do the club continue to pubically support the player, or more urgently address the negative public perception and potential backlash that may follow. Our dear club has always prided itself on the highest levels of integrity and standards of conduct and behaviour, sadly all this will be forgotten and overlooked in light of the recent developments. As a international brand, the club can not afford the continued "bad press, and media persecution" arising from the clubs response on the matter. Not only does this damage the clubs proud history, but will seriously undermine its ability to attract new players, business partners and investors.
This matter is far greatter than a 8 match ban, fine, and player being labeled a "racist", it undermines the operations and impacts on potential revenues (which are vital for growth and development).
With this in mind, I do believe that the owners will have no choice but to let Suarez go, that said selling him might prove difficult as other clubs do not want to be seen as supporting his behaviour.
The fact that Suarez proved a "unreliable" defendant and his version was frought with inconsistencies, does not help in his defence.
As a lifelong Reds fan, I want this matter over, so that all concerned can move on.
I await news on the owners response, and hope their course of action and intent is seen in a positive light, and helps settle matters.

RIP Gary Ablett.

Food for thought {Ed002's Note -

So you want to throw Suarez to the wolves.
What a great supporter you are. IMO he did nothing wrong. Evra abused him, Luis defended himself. This should have been sorted out by the clubs. But not Manutd. A perfect situation to stuff it to Suarez, a player that fergie had already criticised.

Not Wolves, Real madrid read the posts.......fu@k sake, all the best.

KNEE JERK

Clearly some folks do not read the posts correctly. If they had, they would have noticed that I said that the owners might not have any choice but to sell him.
I think this particular person who responded to my post, obviously can not see things in perspective and has a blinkered view of the whole event.
The club always has to come first.
Food for thought.

what went on between ls/pe no one will ever know only two people . the owners have an excellent friendship with lebron james and will have to distance themselves from luis .also has howard gayle made any comments on this saga . i know john barnes has would be interested to know howards feelings as a fellow red what he says will also be my view .

Well said Alan.
Its about bringing the club into disrepute is it not.
The owners will have to take action soon.

Ed's re FA statement
Not defending Suarez but how Liverpool FC is being treated by the FA reading the statement pick a few queries.
1. Evra said that Kuyt called him a F---- person but Kuyt denied this how that makes Evra a credidable witness.
2. The FA withheld damming evidence from our lawyers of meeting held with Evra on the 20th Oct besides other information only ordered by the commision to give a day before Suarez was interviewed in Dec and our lawyers question Evra and yet no extra time was asked to view the evidence.

Thanks Ed's

ok lads please help. i know this is an annoying question but none of the normal streaming sites seem to be working (firstrow was brilliant for example but not anymore) . any suggestions? thanks in advance. {Ed002's Note - Try myp2p}

Myp2p has been shut down. It has now resurfaced as 'Wiziwig'. If you download a 'Sopcast media player programme' (Google it) you can then watch one of the streams. I recommend the 'BloodzeedHD' stream, in English (Sky) & full HD looks amazing on your pc & does not freeze of jump.

Thats one target that we wont be getting. May the rumorus now stop!

Hi Ed's your doing a great job i was disscusing this before do you think that liverpool will get rid of suarez at the end of the season i know it sounds stupid but think about it the club itself is getting alot of stick for sticking up for suarez and it is ruining our reputation so i think he is a liability to our club what do you think ed's?? {Ed002's Note - I think we need to wait to find out the view of the owners.}

Id be disappionted if we were to get rid of Suarez because of a misunderstanding bewteen him and Evra, but could understand if we did decide to cash in, the problem is tho if we cash in we probley wont get his true value(£30m - £60m) because of his ban and that would leave a massive hole in the team which would mean us paying over the odds again(like we did for A.Carroll - £35m) for a new striker.

BigD

Ruin our reputation? thats a bit much dont you think? i think everybody should chill out over the whole thing.

It is not a bit much at all.google jwh and racism

Would yee all be saying to 'chill' if it had been rooney abusing johnson for example!!

Sadly some of the fans who responded to the above posts, do not have the full perspective in mind. Might I speculate that some fans do not fully understand or comprehend the severity of negative public perception. Businesses are dependant on positive perceptions, good relations, and positive brand opinions.

Bottom poster is absolutely correct. It does have a large impact on sponsors. Britney famously got dropped by pepsi for continuously being pictured eating Mcdonalds.

More recently Kate moss got dropped by just about everyone due to drug use.

The report said Surez has disgraced English football in the eyes of the world. But the FA backed a player who assaulted another from behind whilst on International duty. You can't win...Just back team

Ed Any chance of seeing Adam Morgan step into the first team squad this season with the Suarez ban? Could save the club a lot of money with his finishing talent! {Ed002's Note - I would expect that there must be a decent chance.}

02 Jan 2012 15:27:50
Would like to start a little debate here, who has been our player of the season so far? 19 games gone, half the season, who has been our best performer?

My pick, absolutely has to be Jose Enrique. Came in for an absolute bargain of a price and has established himself as the best LB in the league. A Spain call-up must be on the cards for him. I'd like to put Suarez in my top 3, but in all honesty, I think Bellamy is second behind Jose and then Skrtel 3rd. Skrtel's been a revelation this season, keeping Carra out of the squad, in addition to 2 goals and an assist, great work from him.

Would also like to give a shout out to Pepe Reina. He was captain for a lenghty period of time he's kept out a tremendous amount of goals this season.

So who's your pick? 002, would like your opinion as well.

RenegadeRed {Ed002's Note - Skrtel and Agger have made a huge difference to the season, so I would opt for them.}

1. Enrique
2. Skrtel
3. Lucas (would have been 2nd but for injury)

dmedly

Agger, simply for the stabilily he brings to the defence..
Hoping he has an injury free 2012.

KT!

Bellemy, Enrique, Agger.
QUIGZ23

Enrique is clearly, for me, the best buy of the summer so far. But player of the season must be Skrtel thus far, with Lucas being first if he had not gotten injured.

J

Agger, Skrtel, Enrique or Bellamy for me.

davethebutcher

1. Enrique
2. Bellamy
3. Skrtel

1. Jose Enrique- I read somewhere that he has played the full 90mins and started every single Premier League match we've played this season . He also has been a rock and hasn't faltered much and has provided a solution to a position that has caused us problems over the last couple of seasons. He's a bargain buy and is defintely providing a goood attacking threat on the left
.
2.Skrtel- One of our most improved players. I saw him as a tempermental player last season who was inconsistent. But this year he has earned is postion in our defence with strong performances and is more than capable of filling Carragher's shoes.

3. Lucas- Before his injury he was playing his best and was embarassing his critics. He was a solid and influential player in our midfield and we have definitely missed his presence since his injury.

One word - Gerrard

^^^but Gerrard has been injured most of this season so far?

02 Jan 2012 15:08:33
Not banter related but more of a concern, I'm so disappointed in ex red legend Phil Thompson he's become a joke on Sky and is so far up Jeff Stellings apse it's untrue.

I understand everyone's entitled to there own opinion but it makes me cringe when an ex red legend like Phil comes out with a verbal damning of the Suarez like he has done today.

The club the manager and all the players at the club have come out in support of Suarez whilst the investigation was carried out and have since still stood by Suarez. And yet Thommo who should know better has taken his 30 pieces of silver and sold himself out...

Very disappointed red

The Grand wizard...

I don't know what he said but he's allowed his own opinion like we are.

If he's said something along the lines of Suarez was an idiot, i don't want racism at the club i love and i couldn't care if he was sold then i agree with him.

KT!

Thommo might be a Red Legend but you might cast your minds back to what Robbie Fowler had to say about him. No one's perfect and Thommo isn't above criticism that's for sure. Hope he doesn't get stuck in Stelling's 'apse'!

Lots of people still saying suarez will be sold. Think logically and you will realise we are not going to sell him, least not in Jan anyway.

1. There is not one single replacement of equal quality within our budget who wants to play for a team with no european football.

2. While he is out suspended with his latest incident it reduces his value and we wont get a decent price for him.

Maybe in the summer but I would rule out a Jan move. It wouldnt make sense from a business perspective or a footballing one.

Rewflo

He's not going anywhere. (other than Uraguay for a break)

But keeping him may cost us more through lack of investors willing to sponsor a club with him in!

All sponsors run a mile when the word "racist" is mentioned.

dmedly

That is over the top dmedly man. relax. the reputation institution that is liverpool fc is well respected for its values around the world for years and that wont change because of this. {Ed002's Note - The reputational aspects for both the club and FSG is a major concern. The potential impact on sponsorship is very real.}

Ok ed i accept your point, but im wondering if that is your opinion or if its based on 'inside ' information. if not i will hold fast the thinking that its storm in a teacup talk (with all due respect)

L dont accept that one bit your right mate dmedly was over the top! keep to your own views on the matter pal dont let someone else sway it. {Ed002's Note - Sure, FSG don't give a damn about this at all. Just let it blow over.}

Of course f s g care. Its their money. What i was saying is that it makes more sense to sell in the summer. Luis will have played more games by that point and increased his stock again. We may be in a better position to buy a good enough replacement by then.

At the moment we are likely to sell at a loss due to his racist tag and his previous history, in addition to this who could we spend the money on? Nobody of equal ability is available or willing to move to us.

Rewflo

I'm not quite sure why my post was "over the top?"

Surely it's obvious that major companies will not want to be involved in a racism case and not want to invest their money with this hanging over the club?

If Warrior were supplying us with their shirts from now do you think they would have Saurez as the poster boy for their new worldwide campaign, or do you think they would wait until this "storm in a tea cup" has run its course?

With FSG looking for new investors, sponsors, etc...at this moment in time would it be easier to sell the club to them now or after Saurez has been sold?

Will LeBron James want to be wearing a LFC shirt with Saurez's name on the back?

I like Saurez and I hope he stays, but I would fully understand if he were sold.

dmedly

Rewflo...

I fully understand what you are saying, but if holding on till the summer gets us an extra £10m from the sale but a naming rights sponsor for the new stadium (if built) pulls out before then, because of this issue, we will lose more in the long run.

dmedly

I dont think it will cost naming rights or sponsors if the sponsors are aware that we will sever our ties with something that will discourage them from sponsoring.

Plus the best thing about a big fall from grace is pulling yourself back up, everyone loves a renaissance man and if Luis conducts himself well and is a model professional until the end of the season maybe get a good PR agent and sdo some image work then he and us will be fine.

People recover from much much worse. He said one thing which upset alot of people but its not something which he will be eternally damned for, biting someone was worse really.

Rewflo

And surely selling him when we cannot buy a replacement and failing to get champs league football will be a bigger deterrent for sponsors.

Rewflo

We dont need all these superstars as mentioned, we need a good balanced squad to get CL status again. Forget about winning the league, CL that is our target. In any case i would rather have a superstar squad, than a squad full of superstars. We have a good work ethic in our squad, and they play for Kenny thats half the battle won there. I Would love to see Ozil etc, but we just need a couple prudent additions, and time to let the current squad including Andy evolve. Time and patience, all the best.

02 Jan 2012 14:03:09
I have been reading the posts on the Torres rumours, and understand people wanting info from the eds etc. I have seen that the response has been near on a big fat definite not happening. I for one would love Torres to return, lets just not bury our heads in the sand and refuse anyone who dare leave the mighty LFC, ok the boy made a mistake (he knows it). But no one and I can 100% say no one can say he wont return whether it be this month or another stage. Unless you share the boardroom at either club or can hack into mobile phones you can not rule this move out. I would love to see the reason's for being almost 100% sure he wont be back.
Lets see if anyone or the eds are prepared to put their reputation on the line here. As I say again, if it is for the benefit of LFC then bring it on (as Fergie did with Owen) the Club comes.

ps. - I am from Belfast and the Rory Donnelly thing from the team I support Cliftonville never had any legs, he was looked at, no offer was ever made, so the lad never had a choice to make.

Phil, (Belfast)

Bit different with owen and fergie. He was signing someone elses cast off. Not admitting he made a mistake and buying someone back again.

Fergie would never do that and I dont think it would be good for Kenny or Liverpools image too either.

Rewflo

Phil ,

I know this wasn't really your point but do you honestly look at Torres now and see the same player from three years' ago .

Personally , I have nothing against the guy but , in my opinion , he isn't even half the player he was then .

I am interested in your opinion .

Ritters

To the first reply LFC or KK would not be admitting the made a mistake, simply bringing back a player who wants to play for the club once again, and also at a fraction of the selling price, to Ritters, I know he does'nt look like the player from 2 or 3 yrs ago, but look at his face, his body language etc, even from his first interview on chelsea tv the day he signed, he was not happy, and I believe that has carried into his playing career there too. with the quality at Anfield now compared to what was there when he left, the goals would surely return he could'nt help but score in this current team.

to get the best out of torres they would have to play a 4-4-1-1
they need juan mata to play behing torres for him to start banging in the goals
its the same for liverpool look how carroll had minimal chances against newcastle the gerrard came on and supplied the ball to him 4 05 5 times and twice he should've done better.

There was only 1 reason why Torres scored so many goal "Steven Gerrard". He is one in a million and Chelsea will not sign anyone as good as Gerrard, so therefore Torres will not be scoring goals like he did a Liverpool, Ever. Fact

Hello scousers. Poolgunner with free advice. Seeing as you are playing City tomorrow and that it is in our best interest that you get a result, herewith my advice:
* Play a tight game and hit them on the break. For effective counter attacks employ Downing on the left and Bellamy on the right, with Suarez up top. Please don't start with Andy Carroll, bring him on with 15-120 minutes of the game left.
* In midfield, you are not blessed with talent seeing as Mr Lucas is not available, however i think Gerrard, Adam, Henderson and Maxi should do the trick. Please don't start with Mr Spearing he has too much youthful exuberance and may get red carded.
*Stick with the tried and tested back four and goalkeeper.
* Play a patient game, pass your way around.
*Keep a check on Silva and Yaya Toure, these are the dangerman- if you keep these two under leash you will get a result.

By the way, don't take more than a draw, otherwise you will go above us as we have a tough game against Fulham.

All the best.

Poolgunner

Im sure kenny will give this a read thanks for improving our chances

Ill call kenny now!

Not blessed with talent but you mention Gerrard in the next sentence?
All your advice is therefore pointless.

KT!

Pool gunner do you think man city will mind us playing 4 4 3?

HI PoolGunner,

Just noticed you want to play with 12 players..
Dont worry we shall be fine with 11 players ...
Suarez and Gerrard need to be in Check by City...

I was enjoying that till you said "Don't get more than a draw or you'll go above us" which is fair enough, but what's not fair is saying we need 12 men on the pitch to beat them. I think we're better than that! ;0)

Chipkin9 (EIRE)

You need to check what you wrote bring carroll on with 15-120 minutes left . agame only lasts 90 mins.

Was just checking on the intelligence and pettiness of scousers.

Question for the eds. How much was rauls wages last season and how much of an increase was he pushing for?

I've gotta be honest, I thought it was a terrible decision at the time by kenny and dc to get rid of him but looking at his performances for cfc this season I will gladly hold my hands up and say I was massively wrong. Very average, wastefull and half-hearted in nearly every performance I've seen.

Cheers john1892

if fenway sports group dont allow kenny to invest into top class strikers they shouldn'tve but the club. if they cannot understand the traditions of liverpool and know where a club like liverpool should be in then it was money mispent buy them we need 2 strikers in the transfer window then its guaranteed that liverpool won't have to spend again

I'd like to see how Much of yor own money you'd splash about if you owned the Club! These people have made their money from Being Business People.

If you want to understand how FSG operate with regards to buying players go and watch a film called Moneyball. It wil give you an idea as to how they target players and how they achieved the remarkable success they did with the Boston Red Sox baseball team. That said, i'm glad they are our owners, they are success orientated businessmen who understand that the success of our beloved club = profit for them and they will spend accordingly to ensure that success which every LFC fan wants.

suarez
cavani-lavezzi

suarez was a CAM at ajax and he had great success.

{Ed002's Note - And where is the £65M coming from?}

It will be coming fronfenway sports group and they converted the boston red sox into trophy winners and thats what they want for liverpool and thats how it should be {Ed002's Note - If Suarez is sold I am sure the proceeds will be made available and perhaps we will see significant spending on a striker. Otherwise, I really think you will be disappointed. CAvani will not be moving to Liverpool in January.}

Id also try to buy KEVIN STROOTMAN great prospect.

ACHILLES.

One of are owners is carlos slim the richest man in the world and we have endless funds available {Ed002's Note - You really are in for a shock I am sorry to say.}

All i am trying to say that fsg need to dig deep into their pockets and afford a top class striker that is guaranteed to have 20+ goals a season and thats has godd skill and pace but if liverpool do get cavani and lavezzi it would be a transfer sensation {Ed002's Note - You are living in a fantasy land. Cavani and Lavezzi are not going to be moving to Liverpool in January.}

Suarez played as RWF at ajax.

We are suppose to be the fans with the most knowlegde an yet comments like the ones above are being made lol. i can uderstand people wanting cavani great player but then they say we are owned by carlos slim yes he owns a stake in fsg.
people really dont know how clubs are run.
dont know how you cope eds lol

If Liverpool beat City tomorrow night we'll be 8 points behind them with 18 games to go.

That would blow things wide open imo.

With Stoke and Bolton up after, we could well shake things up a little.

So has everyone still written us off for 4th?

Without getting carried away, what does everyone think of our chances of the League this year?

We've already had our bad fortunes, and maybe it's the other teams' turn.

R.I.P Gary Ablett. I never had the pleasure of watching you play.

Chipkin9 (EIRE)

I would only start to think about the title after we are confident of finishing top four cus ATM 4th spot is so tight but I do have confidence we can do it especially with arsenal Chelsea spurs all yet to come to anfield

Square tomato

We should win the next game and then the game after that and take it game by game, winning the league will be great but we have 5 teams ahead of us and they have better chance of winning it, will be more than happy with 4th spot this season.

abbs

Sound advice about securing top 4 spot first and then see what we can do in those crucial last 10 games.

I need to stop thinking that far ahead lol. But I have a strong sense of belief today for some reason.

Transfer season fever?

Chipkin9 (EIRE)

We should aim for the title, that way if we dont make it or second or third we could end up with fourth! Aim for the stars and all that!

NS

Bill Shankly once said "Aim for the sky and you'll reach the ceiling. Aim for the ceiling and you'll stay on the floor."

Thats what Kenny is trying to instill in the players now he's trying to build another dynasty

Its easy saying if we win we are 8 points behind, but you could also say if they win they are 14 points clear and then we have pracrically no chance of winning the league

manno

02 Jan 2012 12:26:23
Eds - The recent dropped points for the other teams around us (except arsenal) and man city's poor form have blown the title race right open. If we beat man city and Newcastle draw or beat united on Wednesday night, we will only be 8 or 9 points behind the leaders. Our performances so far should have us much closer !

Do you think that FSG will make serious money available for top players and have a real push for the title, although it would be extremely difficult other teams will drop points and finishing in the top four would be an acceptable achievement this season, and would enable us to sign higher quality players in the summer.

Billericay Red {Ed002's Note - They do not have "serious money" to make available.}

You beat me to it by minutes Billericay Red. Fair Doos.

We could defo push for the title if we beat City.

Out of the big 6, we have the easiest of the "last 10 showdown", with only Chelsea in there.

While Chelsea have us, Spurs, Arsenal and City :)

Could be interesting if/when we win.

Chipkin9 (EIRE)

The sky sports pundits believe that if Liverpool beat City tonight they are back in the title race, however they also believe that to be in the title race Carroll needs to start firing again and lead the line.

Do you guys agree? think there's a possibility of overcoming an 11 point deficit?

They'll have a job beating them tonight!

Its tomorrow night dude
Hope we do win or i pay double for my windows to be cleaned, a little side bet ive had for years, i usually sit in the garden and watch him clean every window!

Paul the red

City game is tomorrow mate.

Anything is possible in football, especially the Premier League, who would've guessed that City, United and Chelsea would all lose?

Although I do agree that if Carroll starts to fire then we'll easily claim a top 4 finish, but in order for him to start firing Stevie has to stay fit.

Renegadered

City will be out for blood after losing to sunderland yesterday.

ACHILLES.

To get into the title race we need to win at the Etihad and Old Trafford due to the points we have dropped at home. We would also need to beat Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal at home.

I think this is too much to expect. Our target at the start of the season was qualifying for the Champions League and possibly a cup win, which we're on target for.

JRG

If thats the case, then Arsenal are back in the title race then!

Hi Eds and Macca,

Sorry but it't the same old question from me. I thought Gerrard has looked really sharp in both sub appearances so far so my question is whether you think he'll start at the Etihad? I think we played well before he came on against Newcastle but you could see the quality delivery for Andy Carroll we were missing. An Andy Carroll with a little more confidence would've stuck 1 or 2 of those chances away. I'dlove to see him start personally but I've got a sneaky feeling he'll be on the bench one more time before starting. Cheers as always and keep up the good work. :-) {Ed002's Note - I am sure he will start when the club, player and medical staff are certain that the risks associated with starting are no more. I am sure that is not too far away.}

I think he should come on for spearing because spearing us lacking big match experience and he should play just off suarez so he can thread those balls thorugh and adam's passing is good but he cant supply it to suarez well enough but definitely another striker is needed

Why does everyone think spearing is not up to it i for one think hes done brilliant this season an the end of last season. hes exactly what we need in the city game closeing down quickly biteing into the tackle breaking up play an his passing is actually quite good.
spearing steve and hendo in the middle bellamy downing on the wings an big andy up top. think suarez would be good to bring on for the last 20 to 30 mins when citys defence tire.

Lot of people saying no to Bent (can't understand why) but with him we could line up like this next season

De Jong====Gerrard=====Downing

===========Suarez============

============Bent=============

Add Adam Johnson in the summer and bobs your uncle

Chris in Tamworth

So you would play with one actual cm who would cover the defence and agger is better than Cahill

What a joke you mean!! How could you leave agger out and dont get me started on wallcott he is tripe

buy back Torres or buy Tevez , maybe that two boys are the perfect solution of goal scoring problems . Besides that , find a center midfielder to replace Lucas Leiva , like , Ever Banega or Danielle De Rossi

I thought the whole of point of our transfer strategy was to buy players with good attitudes who want to be at the club.

REPLACE LUCAS what the hell are you on about he's injured, that doesn't mean we should replace a player who quie frenkly brilliant. Go away you're either a fool or a troll -McMenemy

Well so far Kenny didnt seem too bothered about buying players with bad attitudes.

Bellamy seems to have trouble everywhere he goes.

Suarez bit someone and took groningen to court to force a move to Ajax.

Carroll broke his former captains jaw.

Not exactly models of professionalism are they?

I can not believe the mentality of some of our fans.
Suarez has a problem and instead of all of us to support him to overcome the problem and convince him that the fans are behind him some fans are suggesting to sell him and buy. It was not long ago everybody was saying how brilliant he was. Now they want to get rid of him.
Are these people true LFC supporters?

He cant score goals for liverpool thats what he was bought for,take 50 million and get two class strikers in thar score goals and dont get suspended,nobody is bigger than liverpool he is dragging our good name through the muck,

Even if he said such a thing do we need to cut off his head or the FA should have banned him from BPL. Come on reds people make mistakes we have to forgive he has not murdered someone. Everyone can redeem. then make sure he won't repeat it if he did repeat such a thing then his time is up at the club...

Give Suarez the support..... YNWA Luis,

Take them blinkers off!!

Its what most of the fans are doing mate. i wouldnt worry about the whingers who have a platform here to vent their own unhappiness.

Suarez reminds me of a poor Peter Beardsley he trys to take a player on too many times needs to be quicker getting that shot in.

02 Jan 2012 09:50:41
We are all being emotional about Andy Carrol - The fact is that he was a knee jerk reaction buy to Torres Leaving - one that KK secretly regrets. Look at all the top clubs around us. Not one of them plays with a lumbering, slow paced forward, Those that did, got rid (Arsenel with Bendtner, Spurs with Crouch)....The way forward is with fast fluid forwards whose movement off the ball creates just as many problems for defences as when they have it. Andy's game isn't like that - not his fault, just a FACT. IF we concentrate our attacking efforts to supply him with long balls pumped in,. our strategy will be along those of Stoke and Bolton of old.Best thing we can do is admit we made a mistake in buying Andy, offload him and get in someone whose movement off the ball fits with the modern game. Can you imaging Barcelona these days with a striker who roots himself to the spot?...I know I will get loads of stick for not getting behind the team etc etc, but if we want to compete at TOP levels, then we need to play in a modern style. Who can fit the role???

Whilst you might be right that other teams do not play with a big forward, that does nt mean we should nt. We already play good attacking football which clearly does not suit AC, but then what happens when we play against a team more skillful or just at tactically astute as us. DEADLOCK. Barcelona do play great football but i can guarantee you for a fact they have no plan B..... These so called top clubs could not handle an on form and fit AC. What better player would you want while playing away or in a tight game to pressure and bully their defence. He is unstoppable. No one is saying we make him the focal point but if we can get him to fit into our style of free flowing game and also have the ability to switch with him up top on his own, and put 5 men across the middle of the park then we are capable of going anywhere and picking up points. Its called versatility. If we never had him and carried on drawing at home, despite us creating loads of chances then you and your ilk would on here demanding a more physical presence, or asking Kenny to change the way we play to a more direct game. Just be thankful we can mix it up with a young future England international.
P.s You tell me one game where we have looked or played like Bolton or Stoke you muppet

Taffytel

Is it just the case that posts like this tend to be unsigned 'just in case' the lad comes good and they look a fool?
When Andy Caroll starts getting decent crosses (which 'footballing' teams still do by the way) and still cant score, then you may have a case. p.s writing 'FACT' in capital letters does not make it so.

D

Come on mate spurs tried to buy carroll

What happens when we play against a team more skillful or just at tactically astute as us.??

I tell you one thing - we shouldn't resort to five in the middle and pumping it to the penalty spot hoping someone gets on the end of it. This isn't versatility, it's outdated, outmoded tactics. We didn't even anticipate having Andy on board until Torres left, so don't advocate a total tactical change to accommodate an outdated style of play. Better players with the brains to unlock defences , rather than battering them is the way forward.
ps - I didn't say we played like Stoke or Bolton - just that those tactics may lead us to looking like we did. So read again. And thanks for the compliment - I love the Muppets - Christmas Carol ( no pun intended) is boss

02 Jan 2012 09:42:06
Just a quick question for the Eds'

Are the FFP rules that are said to be in effect from next season really going to have an effect on the way clubs do their business or it is just BS?

Because i really can't see the likes of City and Chelsea ( and a lot of other clubs) being able to balance their books in the next 10 years ( let alone three) with their transfer costs and the wage structure they have.

Thanks

Sunny {Ed002's Note - They kick in from June 30, 2014 but data is already being collected - so a while yet before anything of note will happen. Nobody knows how much bite they will have but I suspect we will initially see a reduction in spending and clubs claiming to be moving in the right direction. Fears of a breakaway will probably stop any major punishments being handed out. Manchester City are actually quite well placed to "balance their books" in the short term simply due to the size and value of teh squad. Selling on those out on loan or not being played will give a significant return. Chelsea are worst placed for the short-term because their turnover of players is very low so many have gotten old together and they need to rebuild.}

Thanks for the reply Ed002

Sunny

im fed up with a lot of people saying we should accept the 8 game ban.
we should only accept it if we think hes guilty if not then we stand by him and fight it all the way.
people are ignoring some of the evidence just because
they want to make an example of somebody.
if we think hes guilty then accept the ban.
its not our job to punish innocent people just to make
a stand.
soul man

I can understand your frustration on this, afterall he is such a fantastic player, but unless there is clear cut evidence that will prove him inocent then I think LFC need to move on and accept the ban and stop people talking about it. The more that is said in the papers and on the news could be worse for Suarez and Liverpool than a 8 match ban.
This could also work in our favour, after all Suarez gives 100% for 90 mins, so a few weeks break will give him time to recharge and as he allways wants to play he could come back with a massive bang...
maybe 8 matches is a bit steep, but lets just get them out of the way and get him back doing what he does best, terrorising defences

kevc

I understand your piont of view but surely if hes not proven guilty surley hes innocent untill proven guilty not guilty till proven innocent.
soul man. {Ed002's Note - Suarez has been found guilty of two charges by an independent panel. If you had read the report you will see all of the evidence was addressed and it was not "ignored" as you say.}

Ed 002 thats whats wrong with what people are saying the evidence didnt prove it one way or the other just because three people say they believe evra rather than louise doesnt mean thats been proven.
soul man. {Ed002's Note - You are clearly never going to accept what has happened - fortunately I am sure the club will be more sensible about what happens next.}

The ban would be half over now . he could of scored two at old toilet and put his two fingers up to tell the crowd he scored two goals

Im sorry ed 002 just because we dont agree with each other it doesnt mean im not being sensible.
im just looking for the evidence before i condem somebody i would do the same with anybody in any walk of life.
soul man {Ed002's Note - You don't understand the process, you clearly struggle over the report. Are you demanding to see the additional video evidence where Suarez changed his story again?}

xavi could join liverpool next summer. nowhere has linked him with liverpool but he could easily be persuaded to sign for us. a few years ago he said that anfield was the best stadium he has ever played at, he loves the fans and stated that steven gerrard is a huge inspiration to him. he is quite old so despite his talent wouldnt be too expensive and would fit in perfectly to the team. i doubt this will ever happen but he would join if we gave barcelona the money

Now hes at real madrid and if u ask him now he will say bernabau is the best place toplay football

Poster above, xavi hernandez plays for barca
Xabi alonso plays for Madrid

He's chatting about xavi hernandez of Barca not xabi alonso of Madrid

Now I know Gerrard is not fully match fit yet but I figure better to start him and try and get a lead in the game, then if we are leading by 60-70 minutes and he looks tired get him off for Spearing to come on and sit in front of the back 4 to protect the lead. Thoughts?

Sabian378

Id love to see Maxi, Gerrard, Bellars and Suarez in a game together (maybe not vs City). 4 players capable of fast and accurate one touch passing - would destroy most defences near the penalty box.

cozinoz

I'd love to have those 4 and Carroll, if he mises the header, someone will always be there to pounce for it.

Reina
Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
-----------Spearing-----------
Gerrard Maxi Suarez Bellamy
-----------Carroll--------------

Gerrard on the right, cause he's a better crosser of the ball than Maxi, and Maxi is extremely good at finding positions to tap the ball in.

Renegadered

Gerrard won't start

Kenny will not go all out for a win either

Counter attacking football will be the order of the day

Love that team Renegadered but maybe a bit too cavalier against ManC - Id love to see it against the likes of Bolton though

I think the following team list is more likely:

-------------Reina--------------
--Johnson-Skrtel-Agger-Enrique--
-----Henderson--Spearing------
---Downing--Maxi--Bellamy----
------------Suarez-------------
This will allow Maxi, Bellamy and Suarez to link up well like they have done in previous matches. With Downing and Henderson providing some attacking strength on the right.

With Carroll and Gerrard likely to come on close to half-time, resulting in the following line-up:

-------------Reina--------------
--Johnson-Skrtel-Agger-Enrique--
------------Spearing------------
--Downing---Gerrard---Maxi---
-------Suarez-----Carroll------

With Gerrard able to play behind Carroll and Suarez leaving Maxi and Downing to provide the supply on the wings and Spearing in the cente at Defensive Mid.

G'day Ed's , i'd like to ask if it came down to us against the gunners to sign podolski , do we have a chance against them ? , voyeur is known for not spending over the price for targets !! {Ed001's Note - the only person that can tell you that with any degree of certainty is Podolski. It must be remembered that they are still in the Champions League, which has to be an advantage.}

It also comes down to wages and Arsenal have a salary cap where as we do not. Hence why Van Persie will leave for one final pay day/ last contract {Ed002's Note - It also comes down to any interest being shown and Arsenal, Lazio, Lokomotiv Moscow, Schalke, Anzhi and Zenit have a declared interest in Podolski.}

Liverpool should go out and buy Kyriakos Papadopoulos

Just love the name, plus he cbk.lol he plays for Schalke 04 and he is 19

No, Bolton should buy him and you can just hear his name in the commentary against us

been working with a few bolton fans recently,none of whom rate cahill as a defender and say he would not improve our defence and they watch him week in week out!
3 players in max, if expected departures happen... de jong being one coming in, johnson situation being monitored at city,also both tiote and diarra are admired by the club!

Ed 002, I wish you would be more positive concerning Liverpool's transfer targets. You said that you couldn't see why Podolski would come to Liverpool because he wouldn't be an automatic starter. Then you said if he does come to England he would most likely move to Arsenal. At Arsenal he would be in direct competition with Van Persie who is a similar sought of player, both being left footed centre forwards. Especially with Van Persie being in the form of his life. I must admit you are very accurate but you show negativity towards Liverpool. Slodge {Ed005's Note - He doesn't show negativity he gives facts and when needed his honest opinion.}

Stfu Slodge. Not a word against any of the ed's.

Real Madrid should bid £35m January to take Luis Suarez to real madrid and everyone moves on. Darren Bent Villa/england forward comes in for £24million. £11 is spent on a midfield player.

I have noticed the owners don't like spending money on players, unless someone is walking out of the front door to balance the books.

Maybe we will take another £35m for Suarez and see what happens.

Some how i can not see liverpool making a lose on Carrol transfer of £35million unless they made that money up somewhere else in the team.

Darren Bent to replace Suarez in the team. lol

Does anyone here think QPR would be willing to do a deal at this stage of the season. It hasn't worked out for them and i could see them going down.

It might be worthwhile for them to sell us SWP. We really don't need any players, but could get a deal done for the summer move.

If QPR go down mate, SWP would've been part of the reason, they went down he's rubbish imo.

Just clearing up the Walcott nonsense. If Arsenal won't give him a wage increase then why do people think Liverpool will pay it, considering we're trying to get players on a lower wage who actually want to play for the club. Also, Torres won't be coming back to Liverpool, he walked out on us when we needed him most, a move back would only be for his benefit, not LFC's, and his form is terrible! Andy Carroll going nowhere as well, he was bought for the future.

NB

Torres 's form is terrible because he doesn't have a Gerrard there for him.

Other than Kelly Ed, who would you want us to play at right back (as a matter of interest) if Kenny has a plan for Kelly at CB?!
Flanno is clearly not ready yet so who would you bring in if Glen left on a realistic level?
Personally i'd like Arbeloa back but that'll never happen.
Cam {Ed005's Note - I'm sure there are plenty of quality full-backs better than Johnson to be got. I mean, how many of us heard of or rated Arbeloa?}

I like Kyle Walker of Spurs. I think he would be a good signing but I think Kelly will be our RB, for a long time ( when he gets in the team). Especially with Skrtel and Agger playing so well, with Coates as backup.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

I thought it was pretty interesting before the Newcastle game that Johnson specifically went round every player and shook there hand. He never does that, and none of the other players did it either. Was he saying goodbye? Or is he just a leader in the team?

Johnnyy

We'll see if he plays tomorrow... I wouldn't be crying in to my cornflakes if he left anyway! I only want players who want to play for Liverpool.

Hi Eds I was wondering if there was a possibility of arsenal's theo walcott coming to liverpool and could you give me an update of de jong and bent and also what is the podolski situation

02 Jan 2012 01:12:08
hi EDs, do we think theres maybe a possibility that theo walcott may be snatched up by liverpool?

Walcott wud be a waste of money. Loads of pace, but no end product. Adam johnson wud be better.

------------------------Reina---------------------

--Johnson---------Skrtel----------Agger----Enrique

----------------Henderson---------Adam-----------

--Downing----------------------------------Bellamy

Subs: Doni, Kelly, Carragher, Shelvey, Gerrard, Maxi, Kuyt.

I know Suarez can play, but i just hope that the club take the 8 match ban and dont bother appealing it. As much as we debate it, the chances of it being overturned is next to nothing and an increase only seems likely.

Gerrard wil start against city

02 Jan 2012 00:56:29
The most annoying thing about the Suarez saga is simply I don't know and the only thing I know is that i'm bias so until I know further i'm going to support Suarez.

I want the right thing to be done and for the FA to be consistant afterwards for all similar cases. If Suarez said things due to nievity then he should be banned as he has been in northen europe for a while and should no better but and 8 game ban seems extreame.

On the other hand if he atually racist (what I doubt very much) then he should serve his time but then get back to playing football. just because cantana got supported by the united fans after his kicking didn't mean that united condoned kicking people in the face.

-McMenemy

If this was Glen Johnson making a case against Rooney. Would you feel justified supporting a black player with his fight against racism in football.

1-Is racism still in football and does the FA need to re-educate none-english players as to proper conduct in football games.
2-Players swearing in football games.
3-Behaviour towards the referee/swearing at the ref.

Liverpool need to tread carefully with their next steps on this as it could damage their reputation and potential sponsorship deals especially need to look at how the US press will be Reporting and how It will reflect on FSG.
If it wasn't evra and Man Utd I don't think it would be Such a big deal. But at the same time I can't see LFC wanting to apologise to UTD. If it was a couple of Mid table teams and low profile players would everyone be so quick to defend after the report was published

There is no problem with supporting Suarez, but Liverpool should acknowledge that what happened was wrong!

That is what Liverpool have failed to accept.

The defence put up by Liverpool that Suarez didn't know that to refer to someones colour or race is wrong after being employed in Europe for over 4 years, and that his reference to colour was done in a heated exchange as an act of concilliation is implausible. Nobody could reasonably believe that.

United supported Cantona because he reacted to an insult about his Mother, and although wrong, you could sympathise if you were put in the same situation. He paid a heavy penalty.
Liverpool and Suarez need to accept the same, say sorry, and move on.

It is also worth pointing out that Evra's statement has made it clear that he does not consider Suarez to be a racist!

02 Jan 2012 00:51:10
This argument that Johnson should play RM is getting a bit annoying now. He's neither half as bad a RB or half as good an attacker as many claim. He's hardly been fleeced by a winger or provided that many quality crosses. I think he's where he should be.

D

Jack of all trade and master of none

D
You must be watching a different right back mate! As a right back, GJ is often caught out of position, often doesn't track back and often shows poor decision making. On top of that, he seems to be unable to stop a cross from coming in (in my book, a pre-requisite to installing someone as a full back in your team).

On the other hand, he seems to be able to glide past players and head into the box, and gett a decent cross/ shot in - USUALLY!

Carl66

Ya he's hopless and means the defence is poor......oh, hold on, we've the best defensive record in the premier league........

If Kuyt leaves then push Johnson up to RW and Kelly as RB - just my opinion.

Ed in todays Liverpool team, do you think the likes of a young Rednapp, Mcmamman or Folwer would get in. Or would they be loaned out or made to weight untill they had missed the boat at anfield. {Ed001's Note - Macca and Fowler stood out a mile, they would have walked into our present team. Not so sure on Redknapp, I don't remember him all that well, I remember us buying him from Bournemouth, but I don't remember seeing him play until he got in the first team for some reason.}

I will ignore that Ed1 referred to Steve McManamanaman as Macca but will YOOOOU? All the best.

If we could get players like McManaman, Redknapp and Fowler in today's team, we would breeze into top 3.
Macca is like Gerrard, a one in a generation player that we have never been able to replace. And the same goes for Fowler.

Guys, watch the video on the Liverpool Rumours site about the incident that started the whole Suarez saga. It absolutely diabolical what Evra got away with, and Fergie calls Suarez a diver !!!

tel 1949

But Suarez is a diver! Good player, but he is a diver. Everyone knows this, not just the greatest manager in the world. Do you think this is a secret silly? Ask any supporter of any other team in the PL.
You know he's a diver as well, so why present your post that the greatest is the only person to realise this fact? Another weird Liverpool supporter me thinks, or are you desperate for friends?

I wonder if the FA Hearing noticed PE's propensity to go down for nothing and pull the wool over the players/refs/crowds/FAs eyes, when they watched the video of it?

I can just hear Ferguson now - "Oh it was a foul alright, there's no question about that!"

Face it Ferguson, our guy can tie your guy's legs in knots. You don't like it and your left back doesn't either. That's where this accusation of racism stems.

Carl66

I think the point tel 1949 is making is that PE dives to earn the foul, you noodle.
Anyway, get back you your own page, you Manc - and sign your post next time.

Carl66

Thanks Carl66. If you watch the video Evra trips over Suarez boot, avery innocuos foul, not a dirty foul at all. the point is that this is what supposedly caused Evra to be in a state of 'shock'. It was a nothing foul and Suarez didnt kick Evra in the knee as Evra claimed. Suarez absolutely roasted Evra and made him look a fool and he knows it. Everything that followed this incident was caused by Evra not Suarez.

Any fair minded supporter can see that Suarez did nothing in that tackle....yet Evra went down like hed been booted all over the park ??

Cheat and a liar comes to mind Im afraid. Evra should be ashamed of himself, hes finished in football now and even the mancs want to get rid of him !

tel 1949

Because Evra had been at these hearings a couple times before (and lost) he knew how to act, so I don't think people saying he was calm and collected, had anything to do to whether he was telling the truth or not he simply knew how to act in front of the panel.

I tried to post early this morning but I cannot find it now. Perhaps an issue with my connection as I have been having some recently.

Anyways, I was just wondering how many players my fellow readers and the ed's think we need in.

Personally I think it's just two, a central midfielder and a striker. The most likely signings would seem to be Moussa Sissokho and Nigel De Jong.

Ed, any information from the Toulouse side on Sissokho. We seemingly had strong interest in the summer and I remember something about Comoli telling him he was "the next gerrard" but will we follow that up now?

I think he'd be perfect for our midfield now and could play alongside Lucas upon his return.

I'd appreciate all thoughts,

Anfield Rapstar YNWA {Ed001's Note - I would say 3, a right winger as well would be good for me. As for Sissoko, it has all gone quiet regarding him and I have no idea why, I can only think he is envisaged as a next level signing. For playing in Europe, rather than to gain us qualification.}

Who do you see as a likely midfield target then? I'd have Tiote but he has ACON. Any targets that have been sounded out?

Anfield Rapstar

2 strikers (Bent & Cavani - i don't ask much lol) & a right winger with pace & a good cross cause currently we have players who simply cannot cross other than Gerrard & Kelly who i feel has a good whipped cross in his locker.
Summer time, we need top class CM & maybe another striker for in the Kuyt mould as i feel he'll be off.

Why didn't the club accept the FA punishment over Suarez? I really can't see the problem in getting this thing over and done with. The thing has been Continuing for a long time or longer than usual and has become very lengthy this game took place in october.

Saturday, 15 October 2011 .Barclays Premier League
Liverpool 1-1 Man Utd. Two and half months on and we no closer to getting this mess over and done with. In feb we play Man Utd again.

Their is always a risk in going to appeal. Failing at the appeal trubunal could mean not only the punishment being upheld but there was a risk it could be increased.

We could lose Luis Suarez out of action for the whole of the season if the FA decide to be vindictive by showing a strong or unreasoning desire for revenge. Now as I understand the rule of law. Punishments are handed out measurable basis. So is banning Luis for 8 games a over the top reaction to "so called unproven crime". Remeber if both players where calling each other names, then they should both get punished equally.

If the FA increase the fine and ban, then the only other way foward may be court room. As an option.

If the FA are being totally unreasonable. Maybe the threat of taking them to court at the appeal process could get them to play ball.

Now from a legal point of view. it would be impossible to challenge the FA's decision in court. normally you could challenge such a decision by the way of judicial review. Now the FA are not a goverment organisation ot quasi-govermental authority so this is possible.

Now We do have another party that could get involved. FIFA, world football goverming body has strict rules stating that no football association from any nation must engage or allow one of its members to engage in legal action. This FIFA directive mean that all national football associations have to make sure any dispites were settled out of court.

So this means that if any club where to take legal action against football association. Then there is a chance the english FA could be Punished by FIFA including being removed from all FIFA events. EG banning england from Worldcup, european cups.

Liverpool could bully the FA into reducing the ban or I would want the ban applied to both players this includes Patrice Evra.

Liverpool supporters are so dim...I rest my case with this post!

Retract my statement. It was just a cheap trick I thought Liverpool could use in negotiating with FA.

Although I did notice that the FA where not labling suarez as a racist and when out their way to say as much. (suarez could had them for defamation of character)

Patrice Evra account of the events seem very unreliable. (calling Evra black "negro" 9 times) Is very difficult to judge without evidence. They have said that Patrice Evra version of events was unreliable

"There were also inconsistencies between his accounts given at different times as to what happened."

Suarez was found guilty on the "balance of probability" - a lower standard than the criminal standard of "beyond all reasonable doubt".

According to the report, Evra admitted that he begun the exchange with Suarez by referring to the Uruguayan's sister in Spanish. (Patrice Evra Incited it. We can all guess what he said)

And man u fans are dimmer judging player potential on there fifa ratings check your page ul find it lol

This has to be the most ill informed post ever put on these pages. Ed why do you allow it. I think it must not of come from a red. {Ed002's Note - It was not me who let it be posted and you are correct that of the court/FIFA/bullying stuff is simply rubbish. I assume it is just a child idling away the Christmas vacation.}

I would take it to the lawcourts and get nick freeman to rep suarez,mr loophole would rip fa to bits,

I think we should accept the ban after the Man City game. This was at least 3 out the 8 games he will be missing are in cup competitions and therefore he will only miss a handful of pl games and we can push on for 4th place.

01 Jan 2012 23:46:47
Based on names we've been linked with and realisticly we shud sign.
1. Luuk de jong.
2. Gaston Ramirez
Plus maybe try a 'big' signing if possible.
Podolski/Bent/ A.Johnson etc.
However we could sign Cahill even though the stories may be false. He wud be cheap gud CB n British.
Maybe Defoe/Hooper for ST option. Gud poachers and British.
Yes we shud get quality foreign players but shud have a strong British foundation especially with the UEFA rules.

Here a link to an article on the Suarez thing.

quizzicaleyebrow.wordpress.com/2012/01/01/a-race-to-judgement/

some of you might find it an interesting read. personally, im tired of it all. Ive predicted that Suarez would get himself and the club in trouble since he arrived ( I think anyone who is capable of biting and pulling hair has real issues).In my opinion it was only a matter of time. I still like him as a player, and i dont believe he is evil or anything like it, and we should keep him (I think its sensationalism to say he will leave as a result of this). but the ins and outs of the case arent getting me too worked up . I cant imagine any other player from Liverpool getting himself in this sort of sticky situation. Lessons should be learned and move on, I dont think its worth it to fight it out any longer regardless of injustices or imbalance regarding the sorry excuse for a man called Evra

Why not give us your name if your our such a genius and predict the future

Are you nostradamus?

Chris, red in exile

I believe it is time for the club to accept the ban and get back to playing football. However, the tone of this article does not have a neutral tone and therefore lacks credibility.
