Tactical Question to any Ed's listening.

How do you feel about the splitting of the CB's and Lucas slotting in between them? I stuck on the fence to it either helping us play from the back with another man at the back or hinders it going forward due to having one less man in midfield.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it annoys me, it is pointless and drops our team too deep. Why can't a centre back receive the ball centrally and play it forward to Lucas another 10 yards forward? Are they really that poor at passing that they can't do that? Also, why split them anyway? Centre backs work as a partnership, they need to be kept in tandem as much as possible, especially when it means they are then passing the ball across the box! If they are within the width of the penalty box, they can still pass it between them, it just means the full backs have to hang on a bit longer before bombing forward. I personally don't see why that is now seen as a bad thing, it makes sense for them to be moving onto the ball at pace, rather than stood up receiving the ball at a standstill. The wing back is at his best when providing pace and width, they are not wingers, they are not going to beat a man easily from a standing start. Whereas, a simple nudge past an advancing defender into space, where they can then whip a cross in, would surely be better for their abilities?

I could go on for hours about this, to be honest, as it is one of my pet hates, the splitting centre backs with midfielder dropping in. It is just taking a risk for the sake of drawing out a defence, which never happens. It just ends up inviting pressure on your own defence, when they are picking up the ball so deep, full backs advanced right up the pitch and the opposition pressed up against them can easily nick a goal.}

Interesting points. I do recall one of the Ed's making a claim that Agger doesn't fit our new style of play and had always wondered what they meant.

Instead of splitting the center backs why not play the center back who is comfortable enough on the ball to do the job without Lucas having to come all the way back?

Agree0 Disagree0

Splitting to three at the back pushes the full backs on. thusly taking back the oppositions wingers, too mark our full backs. whether its good or not is for your own opinion, but that is why its done.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree on that Ed01, strange to watch your centre halves so far apart isn't it, I only brought this up with my son at the Hull game.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's to push the full backs up the field everyone knows that. Standard tactic when your implementing a passing philosophy. I personally think he's tying to get these defenders knocking it about like Bayarn Munich but let's face it,, ain't happening with the personnel in our back line

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm just giving you my opinion Ed, it may be utter BS I should warn you haha. We start our attacks from the back, right? With Lucas playing ahead of our back four, he may or may not be in a position to receive the ball given how well the opposition attack without the ball. So if Lucas is eventually taken out by an opposition player, the defenders have no other option but to hoof the ball, which is against our principles. So with Lucas coming a bit deeper, we can play the ball on the ground. And maybe it also gives the defenders some confidence. Its almost like 'you go ahead and pass the ball freely, don't worry about the opposition. If you lose it, I'm here to deal with it'. Remember last season's Man City game where BR defended Skrtel for giving away the ball cheaply to Tevez (if I'm right) as he played exactly how BR wanted to -on the ground. So basically Lucas is there to: a) keep the passing game ON and not hoof the ball, b) to give cover for the 2 defenders. Saying all this, I would wish our defenders to improve on their passing (they do make some stupid decisions with passes, Sakho mainly) so Lucas doesn't have to drop always, and Gerrard as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

But the center halves split apart so they can start building the game from the back easily. if they stay in the middle and take the ball, it is easier for the opponent team to pressure them. specially now, all the teams know we like to start the game from the back, so usually three attackers are rushing pressuring the defenders. if we have a midfielder like Alonso, who can distribute the ball well and can still defend at the same time, then this is a good way to play. also if you want the full backs to be higher on the field. it may look scary when the fans see it, but I haven't seen the defenders making costly mistakes because of it.

Hi guys, it seems as if though salah could move to LFC in the summer according to world of twitter

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed002 said they would look to sell in January if they didn't make the CL knock out stages which they have not.

02 Jan 2014 21:55:28
I no were only 2 days into the window but I just get so annoyed with how slow we are with transfers I can just red this salah deal going on for the entire window just because we wanna spend the entire time trying to rate a few million I only say this because I really think we need some players in before we play stoke they put a real fight up against everton

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Really? your nuts

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jan 2014 23:12:42
What? Sturridge came in on this day a year ago, we made early signings in the summer. Transfers are hard to complete without being ripped off with January being the worst time. Give it a rest.

Agree0 Disagree0

3 days into the transfer window an your slagging the owners off already, why not just get behind the club and trust BR and the owners to do the right thing or are you really not happy with how things are going, maybe you preffered the chaos of the hicks and gillett era, myself I couldn`t be happier with how everythings going, YNWA jft96

So if Salah does indeed sign for Liverpool in the near future, when would he have to be signed/registered for a possible appearance against Oldham in the cup?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Jan 2014 21:47:50
Right so Tello is off to Valencia on loan and Salah isn't moving in January . Next!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Jan 2014 21:02:57
Right, so who have we signed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The answer to that question is nobody since all we do for the entire window is haggle with other clubs trying to get the price down and then lose the player to another club but we sure didn't have a problem paying 35 million for Carroll just saying

Agree0 Disagree0

At the time we had 35M for Carroll thanks to Chelsea. At the moment I don't think we have 35M sitting around waiting to be spent on players.

Agree0 Disagree0

What goes around comes around though. when the time comes no one will want to pay us value for players we sell #louiiee

Agree0 Disagree0

It's only January 2nd, I'm sure the club know what they are doing, at least wait til the window is shut to judge the clubs deal making capabilities, because God knows people will be posting tripe about how terrible the players we bought are anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jan 2014 20:53:33
If the twittersphere is right, we've agreed a fee for salah and he'll be a lfc player subject to medical. The guy is an awesome prospect, skilful, lightning fast, and got goals in him. He has also demonstrated with Basle that he can produce the goods at the highest level. Crucially he is a player who can improve the team now and will only get better with time. Fits FSG player profile perfectly just like Coutinho. Now for a defensive midfielder who can score goals, and also a left back, although Flano has shown that he is more than capable of playing in this position. Can't wait for Chelsea to some to Anfield and play Salah, and watch him torment them like he did in the Champions league

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just for a change on the Salah and Mata questions.
Would like to hear people's first experience going to see the reds at Anfield. Ed002 have you been?

My first game was against Brondby in the Uefa cup. We were brought over on a school tour. Nothing better than a European night at Anfield

Liverpool v Norwich when I was six in the original Kop.
Pretty sure it finished nil nil and was boring as hell.
Strangely enough the Last one I went to was Suarez' latest hattrick at anfield against them.
I lost my lucky scarf on the way and dreaded the worst.
Great night.

Went to watch us vs Blackburn, WAAYYYY back when Michael Owen was still with us. He scored a hat trick and we won 4-0 I think.

Liverpool vs Tottenham in the 1991/1992 season, the game finished 2 nil with an Ian Rush brace .

I had travelled to Anfield in the midweek before for the Eufa Cup game against Genoa, it turned out to be an all ticket game and I had no ticket . Genoa beat us home and away that season but the game against Spurs the following Saturday made up for that disappointment .

My first game was the 3-3 draw with Manchester United. What a game that was. I think it was a Tuesday night and the change in mood from being 3-0 nil down after about 20 minutes to being 3-2 down at half time was unbelievable.

2011 I think it was, I have supported lfc since birth and always wanted to go but couldn't afford it. On my 22nd bday all my mates got together and got me a ticket! I was delighted and sat at home waiting for months. There was only one team I wanted to see us play against and that was Tottenham. We were really starting to struggle against them. Went to Liverpool 2 days before the match against Tottenham, toured the town, ate in carraghers restaurant. Match day rolls on and I get to anfield hours before the game. Ticket in hand I walk up to the stadium and I get told "sorry mate the snow is too bad we couldn't dry the pitch so the match is off" I was gutted! Haven't been able to afford to go again since! It's not all bad though, I flew through Manchester airport because it was cheaper and on the way back I met the whole utd team in the airport. They were going to a cl game. Got autographs and pics with them. I know they are the enemy but still you got to respect scholes and giggs ( the only ones I got in a pic with)

Your thoughts eds? Pending for a few days, the signing of Mohamed Salah at Liverpool seems increasingly imminent. Monday, Al Jazeera reported that the Egyptian midfielder is going to sign for the Reds for a 4-year service.

He will be released by FC Basel after a check of € 8 million is disbursed.

Real nugget of Egyptian football, Salah is considered a worthy successor to Mohamed Aboutrika now retired. At FC Basel he was able to convince everyone.

Besides Liverpool, many other European ogres such as Tottenham, Chelsea, Everton, Juventus, Inter Milan and others are in his footsteps.

Best player in the Swiss league last season, Salah is highly anticipated on the banks of the Mersey.

i have a laugh for the readers, I have just bin on the everton page for some banter and what I saw was way way better than anything I coulda hoped for

from everton fan "the fa really need to look at the loanee rules because we conceided yesterday from a player stoke don't even own(assaidi)is that fair only lower leagues should be allowed to get players on loan?" haha I would love to know how many goals were created and scored from there loanees this year what a joke

Everton fans just get ahead of themselves don't let them bother you, there having a good season solely because of there loan signings, what are they gunna do next year? they sure as hell can't afford to buy them except maybe barry. they are getting excited which they should be but bigger teams fans like us can see there not going anywhere, no money and when they send there loan player s back they will be screwed again.

Hi Eds.

First time post and more asking opinion than a rumour. With Sturridge injured and Aspas clearly not cutting the mustard, we are light up front. God forbid Suarez getting a bad knock!
I know it is rumoured that BR has looked at Danny Ings, but I was wondering if Berahino would be worth a look? He has EPL playing time, Has looked sharp and scored goals, has done well for England U21. Also not a regular starter for the Baggies so wouldn't be a huge change to be on our bench. I know there is always the issue of how much other clubs charge for young English talent, but as a young forward, to supplement what we have and given the experience he has, does anyone else think it is worth a cheeky enquiry?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Jan 2014 14:15:31
Sturridge would be back for VIlla/Stoke, Suarez would be ready for stoke. No more Strikers. We have 2 best with us. let's not waste money on buying another striker who could just score. we need some spark in the middle.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would absolutely love this to happen, i've followed Berahino for a few years now and have always thought he looked a class above the youth team levels. I really think he is England's next striker, hopefully coupled with Sturridge. However having just signed a new contract and with him playing so well at only 20 years of age he would certainly command a fee of upwards of £10m which is not really a priority for January in terms of positions we need to look at.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that another striker is also needed to push for fourth or more. Yes, SAS (I'm just lazy) are great. But, fatigue, injuries and form take their toll on a squad. Also, BR has to do a better job of using his bench. When the game is won, Suarez, Sturridge and Gerrard should be taken off. It's ridiculous to give minutes to Aspas against City and Chelsea and none in the 4 matches we won comfortably prior to that. A striker needs to be confident to be effective. Yesterday, Aspas looked awful but you have to give a forward every chance to look good before you send him packing and buy another.

Ed001, is Ilori supposed to be god? We paid £7m for him at 20 years old, so he must have some ability! Would love a reply. Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - yes, he is a very bright future prospect.}

He is a very composed young CB but Brenda doesn't have the balls to play him

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont see why we need another left foot cb when sakho is for now and the future. Along with alberto a waste of money when we are so short in other areas.

Agree0 Disagree0

I do not agree even one bit. He most certainly is not GOD.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is right footed. He is an excellent young centre back, very composed and comfortable with the ball, but very quick and agile too.

If he progresses well, he could reach the level of Ferdinand/Kompany.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ilori isn't playing because he has to develop his strength to be able to cope with the demands of playing cb/lb in the EPL expect to see him next season sometime.

Agree0 Disagree0

The lad is only 20 with a lot of experienced Cbs at the club. I'm sure he will feature more next season as there will be a clear out in the summer

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jan 2014 13:23:34
Am I the only one that thinks Lloris' tackle on Young wasn't a penalty? I mean fair enough he took him out, there was definite contact and he was nowhere near the ball, but what makes me think its not a pen is the fact the ball was already gone when it happened. Young had already crossed the ball in when he took him out, so its not like he prevented a goal being scored. If Young had knocked it ahead of him and tried to run onto it and Lloris took him out then its a penalty, no question. But the fact Young had already passed the ball on, even though it went straight to a Spurs player, shows he had in a way played the advantage before the foul. If that had fallen to Rooney or Welbeck and ended up in the back of the net this wouldn't even be up for discussion. So for me its borderline and can go either way, but I wouldn't have given a penalty.

People will say if that was Suarez I would be raging but I would understand why its not given. Sure I would think it should be a pen, as would any fan if it was there team, but he wouldn't have had an impact whether the ball ended up in the back of the net or not, and I think that's the way Webb seen it too.

Overall though I think Webb had another game where he made one or two bad decisions (not the Ashley Young penalty appeal). Some people might say its similar to the Suarez appeal last week, and I would agree to an extent. Both kind of off the ball, but the difference is Suarez had a chance of retrieving the ball and was blatantly taken out. Young had already released the ball so couldn't exactly retrieve the ball.

Now that's just my opinion on the matter, some will agree, some will disagree, but at the end of the day its just my view.
Cheers,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Definite peno. He took him out. He could've landed on his feet and scored if Lloris didn't nail him one! It's his reputation that didn't get him that one which is where you have to say fair play howard webb

Agree0 Disagree0

Ball had already been played, young was never going to get it anyway. It was never a pen in my book. Good call webb

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jan 2014 14:17:45
He had more than 15 penalties awarded for absolutly No reason. So suck it and move.
For the First time ever I saw howard Webb being a Referee. all these years he was UTD man.

Agree0 Disagree0

To the OP - I know what you wean. In the Liverpool Hull game, when it was still 0-0, Sterling had a run on goal, got a shot off, and just after he got his shot off (which was saved), he was cleared out by a Hull defender. Nobody thought this should have been a penalty (including me), but he was taken out similar to Young. Although I don't think it was a penalty on Sterling, and I do think it was a penalty on Young, there's actually not much difference between the two late challenges, apart from one was from a goalkeeper, the other a defender. Someone help me.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we get penalities once ball has been released, Stirling got clattered after his attempt yesterday. For me, I think young - llori was a pen but not sending off. Young victim of his own diving reputation.

Agree0 Disagree0

When you see some of the tackles that attackers get after they have put the ball in the net, which are more often than not reckless, it was one of those. The ball had already left his feet and play had gone on. Plus it's Ashley "Daley" young! He's got form and recognised diving credentials! Good shout Webb. I wonder if ol red nose had been on the sideline

Agree0 Disagree0

As a former keeper I feel this is a very contentious point. I feel each penalty is it own unique circumstance. It really annoys me when a player uses his pace and simply touches the ball first and kicks it out of play and then gets caught by the keeper. At no point was that ball under control. It's like kick a ball for a throw in then running into a defender and claiming obstruction.

I feel that referees should judge whether the ball was truly under the control of the player. Although many would argue this would make the decisions for penalties VERY subjective.

Did Gary Lineker annoy anybody else last night on MOTD?

He bleated on about Arsenals ability to win ugly (a scraped 2-0 at home to a team currently sitting just outside the relegation zone with no manager) then he played down Liverpools ability to win ugly against Hull City (a comfortable 2-0 win against a team who are currently 10th and have been one of the most stubborn sides to beat in the league this season, with a stable manager and team). When Fowler mentioned it showed Liverpools ability to win ugly the BBC quickly skipped to the next match and Gary Lineker dropped a cheeky last word in of "But Hull did look tired". Hull looked tired? Their last match was a stroll in the park at home to a dis-interested Fulham side, whereas we had just come off the back of playing the two strongest teams in the league, both away from home! Hull probably were tired, but its hardly like our guys were feeling fresh! I was glad to see Suarez punish Hull for their persistent fouling on him anyway. They tried to kick him off the park and he still scored against them. God knows how they ended the game with 11 players on the pitch.

Shame about the goal he had chalked off for being (just) offside. You see them given all the time, in fact Bony scored an similar offside header against City and it stood. There is no way the linesman could have been certain Suarez was offside, so what happened to the benefit of the doubt going to the forward? For example, Borini's Sunderland had a goal wrongly disallowed for offside because the linesman was too trigger happy with his flag. Still, I'm not annoyed that Suarez's header was disallowed, because at the end of the day he was and if that happened against us we'd feel disappointed. Last year against Everton though we had an onside goal ruled out incorrectly for offside, and Sterling was robbed of a chance on goal against City due to a deperately poor offside decision. A lot is being said about goal line technology, but do any of you guys think we should look into offside decisions being left to play whilst they are quickly reviewed, and then if the player was offside you can pull it back after about 10-15 seconds. Kind of like an advantage to the attacking team whilst a 5th official has a quick review of the footage. Perhaps it would slow the game down a bit, but I'd take that for the opportunity to get the correct decision on something so black or white as an offside. It is like a goal in a way. You are either onside, or offside. It crossed the line, or it didn't. It is not like a foul where the decsion must come down to the opinion of the ref (e.g. did the player go down to easily, was it reckless) as I beleive that stuff should be left to the refs discretion. When it comes to penalty decisions/free kicks, you win some you lose some, and I don't want football to lose all it's contentious issues. They make it a great sport to discuss every Monday morning at work with the lads. But black and white decisions like goals and offsides should be monitored by a 5th official in my opinion.

YNWAdam

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good point Adam. Actually in cricket the review system checks to see if there was a no ball. There is time taken to do this but in Rugby the clock is stopped while the review is made. The time taken for this does not seem to upset the flow of the game or the attitude of the players. I have long thought that the referee should call "time off" when there is an injury or some other stoppage. The game then ends on 90 minutes and no more Fergie time.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't understand the excuse FIFA & UEFA wheel out regarding video decisions.

Offside- The only time this would need review is when a team scores a goal, play is already disrupted while the scoring team run around celebrating so how would a quick video decision affect the flow of play?

Harsh challenges- Again, the referee stops play while both teams mill around mouthing off, so a video review is not going to disrupt flow here either.

Cricket & Tennis have adopted limited "challenges", it does take too much imagination to apply it to a football game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Welcome back adam glad to have you back bud.hugs?

Agree0 Disagree0

The joy of football is, whatever level you are playing at, is that you are playing with the same rules as those at National and International level. The more you introduce technology the more danger there is of moving away from the roots of football.
Likewise, the officials can be crap at refereeing an Under 14's match like those refereeing Liverpool's recent matches.

Ed I haven't heard much on the whole Rodgers comment being investigated debacle, anything happen on that front? Also looking forward to Moyes' comments being looked at after yesterday, he actually questioned the referees ability, and although he is right about these refereeing decisions, until there is a change then I'm afraid you just can't say stuff like that. So whatever about Rodgers comments being reviewed, Moyes should definitely pick up a fine. If Moyes' comments aren't even reviewed, serious questions will be asked, especially by those charged by the FA so far this season for their comments. So yeah, that's my opinion for today.
Cheers,
ROI.

Alright eds and reds
Anyone got any info and ideas on team for the fa cup?
Surely with so many matches and so many injuries recently some of the young lads must be knocking in the door, anyone got any idea which ones might get a run out?
Hope we got a fee poorer teams in the cup this year would be good to see how young lads cope, as you never know till they make the first team. Always thought Robinson was quality and destined for first team, while wisdom would probably be let go but when it came to first team chances Robinson struggled and wisdom looked much better than expected so always excited and interested when young lads get their chance

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Maybe Rodgers will go back to the 3 5 2/ 5 3 2, it makes sense if he wants to give some youngsters a run out-

Toure Kelly Illori at the back- makes it a bit easier on Kelly and Illori than playing as a CB pair (yes I know positioning is slightly different in a 3, but personally think it makes it easier)

Jones + a fit RB- again playing as WB gives them a bit more cover.

Midfield we will have to field atleast 2 of Gerrard, Lucas & Henderson, don't think it is a game to introduce someone like Rossiter. Alberto to play in front of a midfield 2?

Forwards- Here we have a few options but I still expect Suarez to play, maybe Aspas alongside him.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jan 2014 10:58:46
we should put a offer of 28 million to sign mata eds do you think it can happen? or no chance ynwa

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no chance.}

No chance we would rather pay for four 7 mil player who are either "for the future" but will get sold in a couple years for a loss. Or are crappy squad players that are just there to make the numbers up. BR is a good manager but he is working on a shoe string budget, we are skint and that's the end of it.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jan 2014 14:16:32
Yes one100, because it's a dead cert that Mata wants to be here, Chelsea are prepared to sell to us, and there are no other clubs that might get involved that would be a preferred destination for Mata.

One100.
You simply doesn't have a clue on our Squad.
Mata is a Gem, quality player. But do we need him?. That will push coutinhio / hendo out of their best position. Do you wanna that to happen?.
We need pace on the flanks. and a proper DM/CM.
And Moreover, You honestly believe Jose would let him come to us?

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually Harry we could do with Mata. But I don't think Liverpool would would do for him. He will look for some other club away from England but he stays in England maybe Arsenal are my best bet.

Agree0 Disagree0

You make it sound as if Rodgers has had no money to spend which is not the case. We are cetainly not skint. Although I do agree on buying too many players for the future.

Agree0 Disagree0

One100, we are certainly not skint but the owners are most certainly balancing the books in an attempt to make the club profitable once again. I for one wholeheartedly support them on this. They are being very creative on the marketing front to generate new revenue.

The £7M superstars of the future is a great strategy but very hard to get right and I'm sure we'll win some and lose others.

And just a final point, FSG have supported BR with some big purchases but for varying reasons the likes of Mihtarian, Costa and Willian didn't materialise.

The future's looking good

Good morning eds,

Question for ed 001 if possible. With suso having a good year so far at almeria do you see him getting more of a chance next year? Does the loan include an option to buy?

A journalist friend of mine said atletico may be interested do you know if this is true?

Thanks eds

Nevada

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Atletico showed interest in including him in any deal for Costa, though we never managed to agree one, that shows they had an interest back then. It was one of the sticking points, as we were not keen on letting him go.

I expect Suso to get more of a chance, I can't see much reason for him to stay with us otherwise. He is at the age he needs to play, though I wouldn't be surprised if he made another season long loan move. As far as I am aware there is no option to buy in his current loan move. I very much doubt we would allow one when there was a lot of interest in him, Almeria simply don't have any money, so could never pay as much as he is worth.}

Another loan spell will be the best for him. And when he eventually returns he can go straight into the first team.

I was watching a replay of last night's match, and could have sworn I was watching the chavs all over again! I mean Hull's away strip looks exactly like the chavs home strip. Anyway I believe Coutinho is coming back to his best - long pass to Agger for the first goal, pass to Aspas, who laid it for Hendo to almost score, and a couple of shots on goal as well.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Aye! If that's him coming back to his best we're in trouble. Two pass completions finding its man all game. One shot on target straight at keeper all others off target. Long ball to Agger? It was a corner!

He looks very pretty with the fancy footwork granted but 90% of the time the footwork culminates in a possession losing pass. Interpreted as a false economy. If he could find the pass and develop his shooting skills he'd be a fantastic player but as things stand I see what he does as generally non productive.

Just watch the Chelsea game for an illustration as to how this gets punished against quality. Chelsea's first goal. Irish Rover found this task difficult but if you press rewind on the remote from the time the ball hits the back of the net to the point where we lose possession, you'll see how dangerous Phils game can be when on the left with our left back pushing high up the pitch.

Agree0 Disagree0

Free kick I think it was ozone.

Agree0 Disagree0

And lay off the lad he's young and has loads of potential, maybe that's not good enough for you.

Agree0 Disagree0

On no we've got another one. Press rewind on your remote. It was a corner.

I'll say it as I see it untill we get perfection big ears. If he gets his passing and shooting right, I'll come on here and sing from the rooftops about him. Managers from winning teams of yesteryear wouldn't have accepted it so why should the paying fans, what was it Shankly said 'if you are first you are first, if you are second you are second', he also said 'football is like a piano, you need eight men to carry the thing and three to play it', well Phils one of those who has to play it, so we need better if we want to be first.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry misquoted 'if you are second you are nothing'

Agree0 Disagree0

He definitely needs to improve his shooting, both him and Henderson.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ricky bobby 2006: if you ain't first your last.

sorry my mistake thought it was a free kick. whern are you doing your streak?

Agree0 Disagree0

I really don't get you ozone, and I give up trying because this isn't banter this is pure hatred for our team and I couldn't be arsed with you and your negativity.
I don't think I have ever seen a positive post about our club from you, its all hate you sprout on here, maybe your mammy didn't give you enough cuddles or something and I really couldn't care, so il just scroll past whenever I see your handle,
Have a super 2014 Ozone.
Peace

Agree0 Disagree0

So basically Ozone your a sing when your winning type of "supporter"

Agree0 Disagree0

No problem ears, just make sure you do. Did you always accept mediocracy as a kid? I always played in winning teams at the level I played at and untill we were over the line with a cup or the league, every manager I played under kept us on our toes and pointed out where each and everyone of us could improve our game. Implying I hate a team I spend thousands on each year to follow is just down right childish. It only goes to show you've clearly never engaged personally on a competitive level. Do you think Rodgers exchanges love letters with the players each day in training or do you think he endeavours to improve their game. Have a word with yourself.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ears, if it's not banter, what is your idea of Banter? Everyone coming on here exchanging love letters about the club? Everyone's got an opinion about their team, the difference of opinion from individuals creates banter. There wouldn't be any banter if we all agreed. Seriously, you, the Irish rover, Bigbadben etc, need to have a word.

I see how you all throw insults at Harry. What Harry posts is his opinion. Some I agree with some I don't but those I don't I'm not going to throw churlish remarks at for the sake of ensuring we have 'peace man'.

Agree0 Disagree0

No Irishred, I'm a sing at all the games and get behind the team, because I go all the games home and away, then I'll say it as I see it after the game, type of supporter.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the thing of it is, Ozone, is you say things like you'll 'sing from the rooftops about him' but I honestly struggle to remember you ever saying anything remotely positive about anything Liverpool related. Fair enough to have a bit of a pop at an underperforming player/manager/team, but you never seem to give any sort of credit when things go well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozone I agree with you and between you and harry and few others you do really contribute to keeping these pages really good inc ynwa adam but your really hard on rodgers and that is simply unfair he is doing a better job than benny, kenny, and hodgson benitez got us to the c.l and won it but his weekly swaps and decisions were horrible to watch get behind your team ffs come on you over do it with the abuse towards your own team we are finally not over paying for players and won't be letting players out without getting well compensated we are in a better situation than we have been in years is that so hard to admit?

Agree0 Disagree0

Where you happy to accept mediocracy when.Kenny was in charge Ozone? Just asking as I didn't see you on bitching about him. Hipocracy maybe?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozone once again spot on lad

Agree0 Disagree0

A carling cup and FA cup final after dumping Everton in he semis mediocre? Listen, at the end of the day I buy into the traditional way of playing football. That's how I played it and that's how I like to see it being played. It simple, 442 all day long with a boss and a ball player in the middle, two lumps for centre halfs capable of playing Stoke City one week then Real Madrid another. Marry that with the right partnership up front with pace along the flanks including on one side a defensive type full back and on the other an attacking type full back (Phil Neal/ Alan Kennedy) and your not going to go far wrong. Incorporate pass and move in a 442 (the Liverpool way) and your on your way. Kenny implemented this but some of the signings let him down and we all know who they are. You say this style of football under Rodgers is attractive. I disagree, possession football isn't pleasing on the eye. I remember the night we beat Chelsea in the carling cup, it was pass pass, pass and we were in the their half with men in the box, exciting football expecting one thing to happen.

In my opinion, this method of Rodgers with the interchange and swapping formations doesn't necessarily require a 'buy off the shelf' type footballer. In other words, in a 442 you need a fast natural winger who knows nothing but paying on the wing. You cannot ask a natural winger to play any other way except as a winger. The different systems Rodgers enjoys enables him to scout technical young players on the cheap then drill them into the system on the training pitch. Theses players canbe bought on the cheap £7-10 mill market and sits nicely with FSG policy, providing for a cosy relationship between Rodgers and FSG.

Granted, it's clear that Rodgers has got something in terms of bringing on young players, I'll give him that, Flanno, Sterling etc., but I just don't buy into the overriding package, it's not for me, I think it can only go so far but I hope I'm wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You need to register.}

Sorry Ed, forgot, the post starting with 'a carling cup' is me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hence, with the above post in mind, Rodgers will not even consider Mata. He's ideal for Utds 442.

Saints boss rounded it up by saying Oscar and Willian made the difference when they came on for Chelsea pointing out they created space. Rodgers systems are all about spaces. If the opposition don't allow us space we are generally non effective. The system worked reasonably well against City, we got the spaces as they wanted to attack, we just didn't quite have the quality to take our chance. Hence the phrase 'not good enough'.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think I have ever said the style of football is attractive. Quite frankly without winning the league for so long I couldn't care less how we play. I want success but unfortunately I don't think that comes in the terms of a Carling Cup final victory and an FA Cup defeat. They are nice but in 2014 success is top 4, Leagues and Champions League. This is the reality. that's why I support Rodgers at the moment, no other reason. If he gets us top 4 then he desrves respect. I also think 442 is outdated but that is your choice. Yet, like I say, they can hoof it from one end onto Carrolls head or play like the old Arsenal and win 1-0. If we end up were we did last season then I will be the first to be calling for his head.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1S0uFXR6wJ0

Coutinho's highlights vs Hull. I don't think he was anywhere near his best vs hull. I think what Ozone misses is Coutinho's ability to make space. More often than not he's got himself 5 yards of space and forces a mid/defender to close him down and takes him across the pitch drawing him out of position.
Giving Ozone some credit here, a few passes went awry, I feel this though is because other players around him aren't on the same wavelength, he needs to take some of the pace off his passing as not every one has his control.

So the invincible Kopites win a home game against the mighty Hull City ( the same side that turned you over big style at their place a few weeks back). Based on the reaction I've read you won the League yesterday? Already made top four? No you scored two goals at home. big deal (although the beaver's free kick was a good one tbh). Classic misses from your midfielders however.
EFC? Did they lose? No. They dropped points, yes; although they battered the Stoke goal hitting the woodwork twice with some desperate defending from the Potters in the first half. Remember this is a Stoke side who've already beaten Chelsea and drawn with City at home this season.
So enjoy the day you loveable Reds. I know it means so much to you. Bring on the Derby. COYB.

Delighted with the three points yesterday. Hopefully, the lads can get a rest and some of the bench and the young ones can do the job versus Oldham. Also hoping for a good transfer window of Salah and a midfielder. I'd be happy with Rakitic, but I just wish we would show interest in Matuidi. Not going to slate Johnson, but maybe BR needs to give him the same talk he gave to Downing and Hendo, tell him he's free to look for another club. We need to see the talent we all know he has, and a little bit of fight wouldn't hurt. This is the best I've felt in years as a Liverpool fan, fellow Kopites. Long may it continue and improve.
Oh, one last thing though, I've tried to avoid saying it because he's wearing a red shirt, but am I the only who thinks Victor Moses needs to FSG-off back to Chelsea. I'm genuinely wondering at times whether Maureen sent him to give the ball away everytime he touches it, have zero end product, foul people unnecessarily and just look generally uninterested. On the other hand, I have time for the Cissokho's, Aspas' etc. because they show effort.

Moses and Cissokho should head back to their respective clubs
Cannot Believe These two staying with us when we pushed Sahin to Dortumand.

Moses I think has an attitude problem, effort is great but it's not enough when going for champions league

Mate that would cost us 40 mill and Jose wouldn't sell to us as we are sitting just 4 points below them and they are yet to visit Anfield.
We need width and pace on the flanks and a DM in the middle. Mata is quality but for the next 18 games, Restricted Budget, We should adress others.
Mata would score and create Chances, But As long as we have Suarez, he would do both.

Have you pressed rewind on the remote yet Irish Rover?

Please hit the mute button ozone for gods sake, did you do your streak yet?

I've told you ears, at one minute past midnight New Years day, we were 5th, as predicted. My assertion was 'we'll be out of the top 4 by the new year' and we were. Are you and Irish Rover related, as you seem to conveniently read and see what you want to see to suit an argument.

Nice victory today but gutted with the number of shots off target match after match. Some players definitely need to work their shooting in training especially Henderson and Coutinho. Anybody knows if we could return Moses back to Chelsea in January coze he is very far from the player some claim he is.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lads after rewatching the hendo miss although a woefull miss it looked to me like the defender did just enough that hendo couldn't get around the ball right he hit it off balance a bit but hey in the box take the bloody contact and if you don't get the pen its the refs fault and not your own

Any chance we could swap moses for assaidi?
Anyone think we should keep him next season?
What about borini?
Hoping we sign 2 versatile attacking players
Mendez, tello, salah all being mentioned I'd take any 2 haha
Who do you guys think we should sign, realistically!?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Oussama Assaidi is a little goal machine, despite initially seeming a bit clueless and fragile tactically make no mistake the lad has a shot on him and has some skills, which many of us are noticing during his loan, in which he's scored 4 goals in 11 games for Stoke City.

But if someone looks back to his days in the Erevdivisie in the Netherlands then we can see that he scored 9 goals in 30 games for Heerenveen in the Dutch league in 2010/11. Then in the following season the little Moroccan scored 10 goals in 19 games for Heerenveen in the Dutch league during the 2011/12 season, the season before we bought him. Now needless to mention he wasn't given much of a chance with us, for one reason or another but he's quick becoming a major goal threat at Stoke, only behind Crouch for goals and knowing how Stoke like playing to set pieces, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Assaidi has scored more goals than anyone else at Stoke from open play, but that is only a guess.

hope you had a good new year Eds.
I heard that we were looking at Diego Costa? I think he would make a great addition to our team, with Suarez skilling players like there is no tomorrow, Diego costa would give us even more fire power. I think he would be the one that could help us against the bigger teams like Arsenal, Manchester city, Chelsea.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Somebody could have at least let rooney know. he had a "what team are you on" look on his face

Agree0 Disagree0

We do not need more firepower mate, we have them in Luis and Daniel. What we need is a CM and a RW (M. Salah please, he is so good).

Jesus Christ. the same costa who turned down us once and has signed a contract with AM.
Moreover they are almost there to beat Barca and Real for the Title.

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolutely no chance of us getting Diego Costa mate. He would cost in excess of 30 million pounds and there are already a host of top european teams lining up for his services. W could not afford him even with the Champions League money as we need to strengthen in a lot of areas, not just in the striker department.

If it was 2 years back. UTD would ahve won this with two late penalties

After messing up for Liverpool he had to have a good game all eyes were on him
