Lets be honest, Coutinho is the kind of player we have been crying out for. Knowing that we have him Suarez and Sturridge up front is making me feel confident and they are all the right side of 26! Well done to FSG for January's deals I've been quick to criticise in the past but it shows they are learning and well done Rodgers it's been a hard season but we are playing some really good football and coming into form!

02 Mar 2013 21:46:03
Wow. Imagine if Suarez took all his chances! He'd set a new record in PL. only 4 more goals in last 10 to tie Fowler's team best. 10 games to do it. Wouldn't want him to pass Fowler though

Robbie would be the first to say that records are there to be broken and why not Suarez, in the form he's in, he's more than capable.

So, what do you want him to do? Get 3 more then pack in for the season? Records are there to be broken - good luck to him - go for it Luis. Fowler was a better finisher, so doesn't that show how good Suarez actually is because, if he took all his chances, Robbie would be trailing well behind.

Gianluca Caprari linked with Liverpool, could be a top class player in the near future

Coutinho is the bargain of the century, he has been a breath of fresh air. He did seem to tire though towards the end. Downing again has improved vastly as well, well done to him for persevering. As always fantastic from Suarez too. I am very happy today made my weekend after a hard week at work.
Hibsylfc

Well I wouldn't call him bargain of the century just yet but he is looking good

03 Mar 2013 00:46:17
Have to say, our two winter acquisitions seem to have an unnaturally telepathic connection with Suarez.

Sturridge, Coutinho and Suarez will hopefully be a potent threesome for years to come - pace, power, technique, skill and an eye for a pass and a goal too.

Think coutinho will end up a legend if he stays fit and at Liverpool, looking very promising, not the most physical lad, and he's said the pace of the EPL is a big adjustment coming from inter, so will take time to adjust, and only 20 so probably not stopped growing properly, once settled and starts building his strength will be even better I think!

Can we all agree to not put "YNWA" at the end of every post? It cheapens the meaning behind the phrase completely.

Okay.

tv leading goals scorer page has Suarez down as 20 goals not 21?

It's 21 now

Hi eds and fans, today was a terrific day all around for tactics and performance Reina was sublime, just fantastic.
The boys were amazing nothing more can be said. Keep it up and fourth might not be too far off. Although I do not see us getting near there but you must always believe.
Eds did you watch the match and what do you think?
Hibsylfc {Ed001's Note - decent, controlled performance. I would have liked to see Suso come on, and better use of the subs in general, but that is my only real gripe with today. If that is the only downside I could see, then I am not going to complain! Yes Wigan were poor, but we pressured them from the off and forced them into a lot of errors. Did anyone actually have a bad game today for us? I can't think of one, everyone seemed on it, which is good to see after going out of the Europa League. I was worried there might be a bit of a hangover following that, but there was no sign of it at all.}

Completely agree 01, I'm not sure I see the merit in bringing Henderson on when the game is safe, others could do with she much needed match experience namely, Suso, Shelvey, Assiaidi Coates and Wisdom - would have loved to see Wisdom on for Carra with 20 minutes to play as it would have given everyone an indication about his ability to play alongside Agger next season.

Still loving your work 01!

The Doctor46 {Ed001's Note - I do find Brendan Rodgers usage of subs frustrating in games we are winning easily. Still, so long as we are winning easily, that is the bit that matters!!}

Thanks for your response as always ed001, hope you are well. Hope we can a similarly pleasant conversation next game.
Hibsylfc {Ed001's Note - fingers crossed mate.}

Good, easy win today although the rest of the results didn't work for us (yet). Thoroughly enjoyed watching it (normally don't since I feel I jinx them) with a group of Reds at a Doha bar. Wasn't stressed for a single minute for a change (after Reina saved Kone's shot in the opening minute).

That said, some 3-beer perspective.

We still look shaky at the back even though we seem better organized - Agger has lost some form defensively in my view and Allen still looks off the pace. We could've let in 3 or 4 easily today, and better teams are more likely to make us pay for it.

That said, lots and lots of positives. Coutinho, Suarez, Downing, Johnson, Enrique played extremely well, SG and Lucas did what they had to, although was afraid Lucas was going to get himself sent off at times.

Best of all - Pepe played a blinder! What a difference it makes when you have a keeper playing like that. Give the back 4 and the DMs a lot of confidence to keep pushing forward.

10 to go - let's make a real push for it and see what happens.

02 Mar 2013 21:00:59
Just two things I was impressed by (aside from well-earned praise for Reina/Lucas/Countinho/Suarez already mentioned)-

- The traveling supporters were fantastic! Don't think I ever heard the rest of the DW make a peep.

- It was very, very nice to see men get into the box today. Allen/Downing/Countinho/Henderson/etc were quite often in the box rather than hanging around outside of it- that sort of attacking intent I don't recall seeing for quite some time.

Overall, well done to all involved!

02 Mar 2013 20:00:45
now I am worried a bit. if suarez keeps on scoring like this.
pep will break all the german banks.
coz. simply. messi is barca bound. ronaldo will never work with him. that leaves with only one genius in this planet. and that's suarez.

Ed. can we restructure the buyout clause from 40 mill to 60 mill?

Lucas has been outstanding. I did counted. he won 5 tackles in first half.
his passing is also real good.

Wonder we should have started henderson over allen. and we should have scored more.

impressed with pepe.
johnson still needs to work defencsive duties.
but attacking wise. he is the best in the league.

I would love to sureaz to score another couple against spurs. and say them. this is anfield. not white heart lane.

Harrscousser Ynwa

I honestly cannot see why Pepe would splash out 40+ million for Suarez when Bayern currently have 2 top strikers already at the club for a team that will likely play with one up top.
dr

Disagree with you about Allen, I've been a big critic of his but he played well today and has done a lot better in recent weeks. looks better playing higher up the pitch. Still loads to work on but at least showing progression, your criticism is a little harsh.

SMc

Can we stop talking about Suarez leaving! Are some of you wishing it would come true, so you can say, 'Told you so?'

He's said he's happy, we should be letting him know how much we want him to stay, never mind how much we expect him to go! Tell him that, when he wins the Premiership with Liverpool, he will experience a feeling that nothing else in football anywhere in the world can compare. The outpouring of emotion when it happens will be unbelievable.

People said Gerrard should have left to win a Premiership. Lots of players have won a Premiership, some of them pretty poor players actually. Only one player can be the best ever player in Liverpool's history. Take a bow son!

redmersey

03 Mar 2013 08:24:39
no mate. I never want luis to go.
just bought an away shirt of suarez.
he is the best. and fact the best are chased by the best team in the world.
would have loved to see suso pairing with countinho.

As Ed said. Br substitutions are shocking sometimes.

lets welcome gareth bale with open arms. and show him. why suarez is miles better than you.

harry scousser

Gerrard is the only player to score a goal in the champions league final, F. A cup final, league cup final, and Europa league final, could still win a prem if we build a solid team in the next few years and he stays.

02 Mar 2013 20:52:14
It will be interesting to see the team selection for the Spurs game, if Sturridge is back. Will Rodgers go very offensive and play Gerrard and Lucas in midfield with Sturridge, Suarez, Coutinho and Downing in attacking roles. Or will be play it a bit safe and add another center midfielder in Henderson or Allen and pull one of Sturridge, Countinho and Downing?

I think we'll put out a similar team and formation as we did today, although I think Sturridge will come in for Downing.

Coutinho, Sturridge and Suarez in attack, Allen Lucas and Gerrard in midfield and Enrique, Agger, Carragher and Johnson in defence with Pepe 'safe hands' Reina in goal. Just a guess though.

BCDI.

The ideal is Reina -Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Jose Enrique - Lucas, Allen, Gerrard, Henderson - Suarez, Coutinho. With Downing and/or Sterling coming in if we are behind after half time.

02 Mar 2013 22:31:02
Can all the rodgers haters please stand up, you are all extremley quiet these days.

I'd like to see us start similar against spurs, maybe Hendo for Allen (Just a personal preference even though I thought Allen played much better than Hendo did when he came on late). I love Sturridge but I wouldn't want to mess up the chemistry out there today. If things are not going well I would like to see Sturridge on at half though, not the typical waiting till it is too late that Rodgers has done in the past.

I think Allen will drop to the bench and Sturridge will come in couthino will join Gerard and Lucas in midfield. Suarez may operate around Sturridge.

We all go on about the need for experience in the squad, and I know this has been covered time and time again, but what about david villa? One of my favourite players of the last decade, barca don't want hi, he's still prolific and is a true class player. Hel be able to play brendans tiki taka football too.

Anonymous woolback

32 years old and will command a huge salary. I personally can't see FSG green lighting Rodgers to move for someone at that age with that sort of wage packet. He'll be after a 3 year contract at least, i'm sure, so it's not likely to happen and this is before agent fee's/transfer fee's, etcetera are taken into account.

I have always liked Villa as a player and it's a shame he's never played club football in England but he's done very well at Barcelona, Valencia, Zaragoza and for Spain. So he's going to sleep well when he's retired.

BCDI.

02 Mar 2013 20:42:50
Lets hope Suarez gets the Golden boot this year.

02 Mar 2013 20:41:15
Hi Eds

Haven't been on for some time, as the abuse and negativity got up my nose. However I had to come on to say that all those Pepe, Carragher, Gerrard Bashers should be ashamed of themselves, without true professionals like these the team would be nowhere.
To support the club means supporting the team, even if players are not going through the best of times.

The abuse some so called fans give out sometimes makes me ashamed to be a Red, we have seen how the plastic fans treat their own and hopefully we will never go down that road.

Although you have a point this is just as bad as those who bash the teams i'm so sick of reading LFC fans having a go at other LFC fans for discussing players and their abilities on a banter site!

Yeah I actually agree, when we win there are fans saying,
"Where are the (insert players/managers name here) bashers tonight" then when we lose its the same story.
dr

02 Mar 2013 20:30:27
Team selection proved to be spot on.
Well done to all the lads.
Just a word on Coutinho his assists for the first 2 goals were top draw, was also impressed by his tracking back and workrate and he can take a tackle and get stuck in.
Impressive!
I think it's the Luis Suarez factor having a huge influence on the whole team/squad, supporters. He's infectious!
I just can't stop smiling when I watch him play
Well there was 33pts to play for? We've bagged the first 3 just another 30 to try for. If we have a bit of luck for a change to go with our current excellent form.
Who Knows?

02 Mar 2013 20:29:25
Early day's but I'm very impressed with coutinho, the boy is a typical brazillian, just oozes class and ability, keep it up.

02 Mar 2013 20:18:34
Great win, let's enjoy the victory. What a display by Suarez, but full praise must also go to Coutinho. Keep it up sir. Really looking forward to the Spurs match, should be a great match.

Ello Reds

great result today, we looked dominant throughout the game if we can keep this up i'm sure we can get into Europa next year, I think if suarez stays and a few additional players a bought in, we can walk into that champions league!. coutinho looks great to looking forward to seeing him more!

02 Mar 2013 20:10:19

02 Mar 2013 20:06:00
Who cares?
Not for sale.
Sorry to tell you mate as you clearly do not know but everyone has a price, Ronaldo 80million from a champions leaugue and premier winning team? Naive response mate.
Theres a suarez will go as the Eds pointed out if the price is acceptabke and he wants to go. Il back suarez to the tooth against anyone and my son loves him but every club is bigger than the players.

02 Mar 2013 19:59:54
We have to give Downing some credit for today's first goal.
If he didn't score within the two minutes the final score may have been different.
Congratulation to downing and the rest of the team. Without the team performance like today's games will not be won.

Alex7777

02 Mar 2013 19:57:41
Great result and performance today.
Although Wigan wasn't at the races.
Coutinho looks to be an excellent buy and can only get better.
Suarez as usual outstanding.
Reina kept us in the game in the first half with 2 outstanding saves. Still look a little light weight at the back in defence from crosses etc. Need to get some bigger guys in I think.
The team seem to be gelling and getting the idea of what Brendan wants.
One game at a time at the moment as we seem to take 2 steps forward and 1 back.
Building for the future.
The future is bright the future is Mersey red.

03 Mar 2013 08:40:10
Wigan weren't in it because we didn't let them be in it from the start, not because they had a rubbish day!

02 Mar 2013 19:56:21
Great performance from the lads, we were solid defensively, Reina seems to be getting back to his best, lucas and allen bossed the game, Suarez was unplayable and aimar. I mean coutinho was great. Also Brendan Rodgers showed why we paid all that money for him, his tactics were spot on.

Did Allen play. Well done the rest why and w a

Disagree with lucas and allen but apart from that bang on

JA had a good game. He's quality and will get better and better

02 Mar 2013 19:53:24
Just a quick one, if and I mean if, noted went on to lift the champions league! Would they qualify as champions and 5th place prem team go into quals?

No UEFA clarified the qualification process after the fuss with us after Istanbul. It now states that only a maximum of 4 may qualify from any 1 country.

ChrisE

That is why Spurs missed out last season even after finishing 4th.

Red PG

02 Mar 2013 19:51:33
That's a great three points and earned well. Now we can sit back, rest up and wait for Tottenham to have 3 games in 7 days, Arsenal tomorrow, Inter on Thursday the final one coming at Anfield next Sunday. A tough week looms for them no doubt about it.

Everton have some tough games as do Arsenal and Tottenham, as long as we worry about our own work and go about it well, not every game is going to be a stroll to victory but let's hope the squad has found it's feet, as it looks as though it has in recent matches and can keep this level of consistency going.

02 Mar 2013 22:21:58
I've had a crack at predicting the last 10/11 games for us, the north london sides and the toffees and I think we finish 6th. That fourth place looks a straight race between Spurs and Arsenal and I can't see us overtaking the loser. I do see us passing Everton by a nice margin tho.

How can it be a race between Arsenal and Spurs if Spurs could be above Chelsea by the end of Sunday? A draw tonight in North London would be great for us. Good performance last night from the boys.

Andy K

02 Mar 2013 19:50:59
I'm genuinely excited by our South American trio of Lucas, Coutinho and Suarez! Those 3 were absolutely magnificent! Pepe was top class - saved our skins and determined not to let anything past him. Really top class performance from the whole team, from Stewie (has come on leaps and bounds) to Carra (solid and dependable). Onwards!

02 Mar 2013 19:48:42
3 games 12 goals we are looking more like a unit the players in them selfs there body language all workin for one another playing for the jersey can see us going good run now an pushing on now really do hope Suarez gets golden boot an player of the year he really deserves it

02 Mar 2013 19:46:28
Lets get ready for the 4th place brigade

3rd looks on

02 Mar 2013 20:45:35
Chelsea fans are too busy making banners about Rafa!

As I acknowledge that people here do get carried away after a win the people who slag off those people often get equally as carried away when we lose so let's just enjoy the form our team is in for now.
dr

02 Mar 2013 19:42:39
Great performance today!
However in the summer we still need to address the defence. We always look as if we will give chances to the opposing team'. Attacking wise I would love a top attacker/striker, downing is still not good enough, we are beating the lower teams but to beat the bigger dogs, we need more top quailty in the final third. Suarez, sturridge, gerrard, coutinho, are a great platform for next season. let's keep improving and winning"

02 Mar 2013 19:42:20
Hello Eds,
hats off to Pepe for a fantastic performance today, the same to Louis but most of all to Philippe Coutinho. Great result, let`s hope Liverpool will win all of the remaining games and that the fight for 4th place is not over yet.

02 Mar 2013 19:41:33
That was the reina I know and love. Did what he had to do and did it well.

02 Mar 2013 19:35:59
Inter must be kicking themselves right now. March on you mighty red men!

AndyKopLiverpool

02 Mar 2013 19:32:42
great support for rafa today. Liverpool fans know how to look after their own

02 Mar 2013 19:23:09
I find it really annoying that Rodgers does not use his bench in games that are finnished long before full time reckon it would really help the likes of assaidi to get 20 mins in games like this great win bring on spurs

02 Mar 2013 19:23:05
3 goals for Suarez
2 assists for Coutinho
1 Liverpool FC
YNWA!
Scouse_Pride

02 Mar 2013 19:20:12
Gareth Bale worth 60million plus? he's 23 and had scored 13 goals this season. LUIS suarez is 25, has. scored 29 goals in all competitions so far and would adapt in any league in the world even in a barcelona team whereas bale is not a barcelona player full stop. Suarez has to be worth 60 million plus and bale less, fact#

Who cares?

Not for sale

Both of them are quality players. Both are not for sale neither. Lastly a player is worth what his current club value him

02 Mar 2013 19:15:46
Great win the red men 4 nill and a clean sheet, I'm well happy with the way we played well done LFC played em of there own park, wow the super SUAREZ his stock just keep's rising walk on boys. jay essex red for life red till dead and as always walking on with hope

02 Mar 2013 19:12:12
I think reina will stay.

02 Mar 2013 19:11:35
Spurs lost tomorrow, we beat them next week?

6 point gap.

UP THE REDS

CodeRed

If that happens, then Arsenal will probably be in fourth, and so the gap will be bigger than 6, probably 8.

02 Mar 2013 19:05:43
Lucas, One word. Amazing. Coutinho reminds me of Pablo Aimar. very solid performance today.

02 Mar 2013 19:36:46
Owen said something very similar on MOTD2 recently.

He reminds me of a Fraggle. He can certainly play though!

02 Mar 2013 18:44:12
Wow can't express how happy I am we have a player of Luis suarez ability, the guy is frighteningly getting better, what a player!.

02 Mar 2013 18:39:19
35 mil pound my arse.

AJ

What does it weigh in kilos?

Luis Suarez = Indispensable

*NOT FOR SALE*

It must be pretty hard for you to move with an arse that heavy :)

Haha nice one guys, I am athletically built with lean muscle, but I do feel my ass looks little bigger for my rest of the body, but I don't mind, Girls love it. :D

AJ

02 Mar 2013 18:33:59
Good win fellow reds, let's keep enjoying it and stop with transfers from now to the end of the season

02 Mar 2013 18:33:14
Three cheers for Pepe Reina

Damn straight he was switched on when other keepers wouldn't have been when dominating the game so heavily, he was constantly keeping the defenders on their toes screaming for concentration and positioning.

02 Mar 2013 22:14:28
Form is temporary, class is forever.

02 Mar 2013 18:31:47
so much for r fellow red derek Mcgovern in the mirrior giving wigan as the bet of the day at 7-2. lol

02 Mar 2013 18:27:53
Coutinho and Allen running the midfield

Allen? are u serius I think u want to say Lucas. he is playing for 1 and half player. suarez is the best in the world.

Allen put in a good shift today!

02 Mar 2013 18:27:09
That's the pepe we all love top saves let's hope he continues till end of season and I think buck has found a lil jem in our number 10 YNWA JON96

02 Mar 2013 18:13:54

02 Mar 2013 18:07:17
Downing has scored but he is not having a good game his final ball is shocking

Give it a rest with the Downing bashing will you its getting a bit old now

02 Mar 2013 19:46:14
why be like that, he played well scored a goal what more do you want, support the team and stop having a go. I hope the players never read what the so called supporters say about them

02 Mar 2013 18:01:50
2 assists from Coutinho so far, he is looking to be a very good signing

02 Mar 2013 18:01:42
How Allens in ahead of Henderson at the moment is beyond me.

Taking teachers pet to the extreme!

Lyndon

02 Mar 2013 19:41:05
Somehow I can't imagine an apple on B. Rs desk would do it.
Seems an outrageous statement. Surely they are picked on merit in training?

I'm not trying to cause an argument mate, but he's nay but a kid, didn't affect the result!

Not a dig at Allen but Support for Henderson who's been great over the last month or two.

Lyndon

02 Mar 2013 20:51:13
Hendo got some pitch time when he was out of form - probably trying to keep a young player's morale up. I think we can all agree it's worked and we have a solid squad player with potential from a player most people thought was on his way.

I think BR has been trying the same with JA, he's been dropped to perk him up. I think he's been in for a run of games to try to pick him up. Not sure he'll start against Spurs now tho', today was his chance to shine and he blew it.

02 Mar 2013 17:58:17
lucas. what a game. how many tackles.
someone plss. get the stats of tacklings won.
lucas will sit right on the top.

countinho. and that's what we call him. the NO. 10.

suarez. keeps on scoring. scoring. scoring.

02 Mar 2013 17:55:51
When did suarez start wearing number 10!

02 Mar 2013 17:54:42
I still think pepe is a great keeper and most get better as they get older. Still feel like he could play with us for a few more years unless a team is willing to pay a decent amount for him.

Et

"Man United hold a lot of sway over the press here and are always going to use it. " Luis Suarez on ESPN Interview - Love it I do, legend.

02 Mar 2013 16:59:46
I love how when a dodgey paper story turns up there are always 3 or 4 random posters that turn up with their "nailed on" rumour that someone is signing

A little like Honda today he is rumoured to be free in the summer and now he's signing with us in the summer. Not!

He's not free in the summer. Contract is until end of the year.

02 Mar 2013 16:53:14
Everton Swansea Chelsea all winning bad weekend for us so far! Come in boys!

02 Mar 2013 16:49:21
Eds, could you give us any update on the plans to redevelop Anfield/ move to a new stadium. Have the club got any further?

Linc Red {Ed002's Note - You need to use the search function.}

02 Mar 2013 16:47:19
I'm sorry, I just get infuriated with the fact that Henderson gets a seat on the bench. The lad has give it everything he has got the last few weeks and has been arguably out best player after Suarez. He never stops running and plays in any position he's been given. I really hope Rodgers has a place for him at this club, I see big things for him.

3-0 at half time suggests BR knows way more than you do. We use more than 11 players throughout the season and Hendo will get more chances

Im going to say 2 -0 today

Pessimist ;)

02 Mar 2013 16:45:26
With today's team I think I would of preferred to have seen Sterling playing on that left wing and then Coutinho playing behind Suarez instead of Allen. Or even just Henderson over Allen playing behind Suarez.

Dont think Sterling should be anywhere near the starting line up for rest of the season.
He was poor in the under 21s against Manu!

The 4 players Liverpool should purchase in my opinion:

Honda
Eriksen
De Vrij
Benteke/Bony

02 Mar 2013 16:38:00
For those who said I had a bad theory to who the starting 11 were. I wrote in yday saying those in orange bibs wer our starting 11 and I was getting dogs abuse. Well looks like i'm right? No sturridge and allen in?

Medal is in the post.

Everyone knows bib theory it's nothing new so stop acting like your an itk

Lots of names being thrown around but as usual, just rumours:
Alex pearce- reading CB
Arda Turan - athltico madrid CM
Stefan de vrij-CB ajax
Christian Ericssen -CAM Ajax
any more???

The only people throwing around Christian Eriksen's name are the deluded people on here who actually think he will be coming here. Wake up to yourselves, its not going to happen so get used to it.

BrisbaneLFC

I wouldn't completely rule out Eriksen this summer. Unlikely to happen, yes. However it seems like he will be moving. He wants Real or Barca but I can't see either going for him. He's rejected City a couple of times. Competition for him would probably come mostly from Roma, or either of the Milan sides I would imagine

He's very pally with Daniel Agger.

02 Mar 2013 14:35:42
Does anyone know the latest info on wether Daniel Sturridge will be fit for the Wigan match today?

''Huge doubt'' as described by the tv preview of the Wigan-Liverpool match, sadly.

02 Mar 2013 13:29:40
Hey lfc fans.

Hope we win today, we haven't beaten wigan at their ground for a looooong time, so I hope we get the job done and start well.

Secondly to eds and other fans. I believe that lfc should try and buy scott sinclair from city for a cheeky price!

Fast, skilful, best winger at swansean very direct and would score more than downing and stll young!. So your thoughts guys?

Red lobster

I think the 'Run In' starts now, every game is a must win for Liverpool and I type that as a fan who's not expected Champions League from the get go this season. But Wigan today, Spurs next Sunday (after they've had Arsenal tomorrow and Inter Milan on Thursday) and then Southampton away, then it's off to get revenge at Villa before West Ham come to Anfield. 12-15 points is a realistic challenge in the next 5 games not easily walked, not many games are these days but a challenge, especially being that the League is all we need to concentrate on.

We've been up and down and struggled to win many matches that we really should have won, doing the hard things and letting the basics bring us down, but with Sturridge at the club we have two genuine goal threats up front, Borini's season is a write off which is hugely frustrating because I rate him very highly for a young striker, so I hope the fans, like Rodgers is patient with ''the Borini project''.

But now we have two goal threats who look like they can play well together, it's going to open up the oppositions defence for our midfield, whether through the middle or, on the flanks to start having a much more obvious effect in defining matches. Two strikers is what we've missed so much for so long, only Kuyt and Suarez for Kenny in his ''care taker'' period have offered this double strike threat. So I think we'll start to see a much more balanced and well shaped team, Rodgers finally has his striker to play with Suarez.

"I totally disagree with you, when Roy Hodgson came into the club we as fans accepted him and wished all the best, Chelsea fans have berated Rafa from day one with banners and songs, it was only a matter of time before he snapped. "

You're wrong.

DaveyBootle

In fact our fans are so tolerant that I am organising a petition to bring Woy back as manager. Anyone want to support?

Listen, some won't like it, but a lot of anger over the owners at the time was directed at Hodgson.

It was bang out of order.

It's not necessarily a reflection of the mentality of the fans but that of a frustration regarding the pathetic situation the club stood in.

DaveyBootle

I think when Northampton beat us in the cup and we touched 17th in the League it all looked like it was going to become grim and rising there on in. I like Hodgson and thought he did very well for Fulham and after Liverpool at WBA he looked like he forged some strength in the club and has done pretty damned well for England.

But at Liverpool he was shockingly bad and when Daniel Agger broke his silence and talked about the state of things it showed that even the senior players were starting to question Hodgson 5 months in and it was becoming obvious he had lost the faith and belief of the players. Torres was readying to leave in the up coming transfer window and I think it's fair to type that the club was very much in a crisis, so the right decision was made to sack Hodgson when we did.

Sadly roy had no cash and he bought poor players who he knew but were not up to it, a bit like rogers, roy and rogers got the job because they were flavour of the month for doing good things with smaller clubs whose fans do not expect what we lfc fans desire again. red mick tag ynwa

I think the problem with Hodgson essentially stemmed from the signings he made - bar Meireles, you look at the likes of Cole, Konchesky, Poulsen, Wilson et al, none of them even managed to come up to par let alone shine. Add into the mix Konchesky's mum going renegade and lambasting LFC fans due to her son being pretty poor then it all reflects on the manager, whether that be right or not. Hodgson looked clueless - you could see him looking utterly bewildered during matches, which in turn unsettled the fans, and rightly so.

I think most fans had their doubts about the appointment, but I wouldn't say there was a massive rally against Hodgson from the get go (maybe I was clueless to the whole situation?)

Either way, the supporters made their voices heard, which in turn led to Dalglish, which led to a Carling Cup and an FA Cup Final, which lead to Brendan Rodgers, and the likes of Sturridge and Coutinho coming in, playing an exciting brand of football.

Whether you think the treatment of Hodgson was unjust - I think it was warranted, and the fans in the end were bang on.

We never made songs, banners, were near relegation when we began to boo and were fighting a war with h&g who nearly sent us into administration

Chelsea are currently 2 positions higher than they were last season and booed before rafa even stepped foot in his office

Cant compare the two at all please post this ed (the truth£

Roy alienated a lot of fans with his interviews after games.

Hey Ed, do you think 'Search Engine' will move on this summer?
We'll be fooked without him.

Mr S. Engine has been courted by many forum pages around Europe. The president of the Juventus Banter Page is said to be very interested:

"Search is a fantastic asset to any page. He always gives 100%, he has a great engine on him. Doesn't give up, has good vision and can find anyone on the website with his great searching passes"

It's going to be a struggle to keep him to be sure.

They still stop going on about Suarez, do they?

James Pearce of the Echo. hold your head in shame mate as you're as bad as half of the blerts on here.

That's typical of the sensationalist Manchester based journalism and pollution which smothers our once great paper.

As for our little Uruguayan one, relax and enjoy what you see.

Davey - can you put a link to the article? {Ed002's Note - I would have thought going to the Echo web site would be easier for you.}

02 Mar 2013 11:43:11
Can I just say, our starting XI looks so much stronger with Sturridge and Coutinho

I don't think i've seen enough of Coutinho player for Liverpool to make that assessment yet.

Sturridge has looked sharp and hungry for goals it's worked well so far, I know he's a bit like fine china but he's been very positive.

It's all well and good Coutinho scoring in a 5-0 romp to victory but how is he going to match up aginst United or Chelsea, the harder teams or physically against Stoke or West Ham? I don't think we can fairly judge this yet, only guess work.

02 Mar 2013 11:36:30
If you had the choice of one player to leave who wouldit be?

02 Mar 2013 12:45:46
Suarez for sure. His attitude stinks. His antics are a constant embarrassment to the club. His image and persona don't reflect that of this humongous club compounded by a stingy attitude on the pitch. Get rid at the first opportunity.
RedBeer

02 Mar 2013 13:10:48
Gerrard - as much as I love Suarez, I want Stevie to finish his career the ultimate Liverpool legend

02 Mar 2013 13:33:24
Sorry about the previous comment re Gerrard, I misread, I thought you said who wouldn't we want to leave. don't think we should really be talking about who would we get rid of, kind of disrespectful towards the people who represent the team we are meant to love

See ya Sebastian Coates. Far too slow and sluggish although he scored a spectacular bicycle kinda kick from a corner last season.

I think he'd be very good in the Italian league where things run a bit closer to his pace, shame because he looked fantastic in the Copa America, really though we had found a new type of Hyypia styled centre back. But no, now Coates needs to be playing first team football regularly and after 2 seasons near three he'll have missed out on important game time, so from his point of view he needs to go in order to play and reach his potential.

BCDI.

Red Beer's comments absolutely disgust me, as does this type of topic in general. Support the players, and never take watching world class players such as Luis Suarez for granted.

02 Mar 2013 11:14:47
looking at our squad we all can see that we need 2 defenders a creative midfielder and a winger. carra will retire and need to be replaced. skrtl will proberly leave. gerrard at his age needs to be rested once in a while so we keep him fit for 3 years more. we have been 1 winger short all season sterling is young and his lack of form is very normal at his age. carrol and skrl will gice us around 25mil, why don't we spend that money on hummels one of the best defenders out there. and spend big on let's say erikson and a winger. not getting in the cl is costing us unbelieveble money we should spend big this summer erikson hummels both young. maybe I am wrong but I think with the squad we have 3 worldclass players would make all the difference. we are as good as anyone on the day let's buy and get up there

Hummels is slow, incredibly slow and dortmund leak goals. I'd rather have an absolute monster in defense along with agger. We can't have two ball playing defenders

He will eventually join Munich like all the best German players, i'd much rather us play Kelly or Wisdom at CB and bring through McLaughlin to cover RB.

Can we all agree that this season was now about giving the new manager experience, trimming costs and setting a foundation of financial sustainability. I must admit that compared to our rivals and considering who we are, I am frustrated that we have dropped this low. However without the oil billionaire or heavy debt there is little alternative. Therefore I conclude that this season must now be about BR shaping the team that he thinks will be successful. His must complete this by the end of the season. As educated fans, we will judge his progress rationally. I think these last 11 games are more interesting based on whether the team has truly improved to be a top 4 team. League position will be a secondary issue because of current points total is so low.
Following a summer of final ins and outs I suggest that only after 8 - 12 games of the new season can we finally settle on BR as Mgr.

"Can we all agree"

Answer: No.

'giving the new manager experience' - are you serious? This isn't a traineeship he's on

Beancounter has got a point.

I'm not convinced FSG expected the world this season.

To be fair, they've probably got more experience and a sense of real football reality in a short period of time, than half of the glory-hunters on here.

Our manager would not of taken the job on a one-season contract.

DaveyBootle

It used to be the case that when a new manager was at Liverpool. He was given 5yrs to find success. I would like us to give Brendan the same amount of time.
And to be fair, out of all the managers we have had since Daglish in the 90's there have only been 2 that I was not sad to see leave. Souness and Hodgson.

02 Mar 2013 09:17:09
i think what we really need in the summer is a good defensive midfield player, to break up play and protect our defenders.

Yep, and there's talk in london regarding song who has failed to settle in spain!

What happened to Lucas?

Lucus is starting to show his form again. That was an awful injury but the last 3-4 games he has been outstanding

To the 3rd poster,

what if something happens to Lucas? last season all over again then?

Luis Gustavo would be a very very good buy as he will most likely be available for around £10M and can play LB/CB/CM/CDM also it would give Lucas strong competition.

On the topic of Chelsea fans and Rafa:
1) Am I surprised? No, because Rafa loves LFC, and he makes no secret of the fact. Secondly he replaced a Chelsea man, a former player who also won the champions league and FA cup with the club.
2) Was it 100% a mistake to make him "interim" manager?
No, in fact DiMatteo had a similar title and through success made himself full time manager, as did Kenny Dalglish at LFC. Rafa had an opportunity.
3) Should Rafa have taken the job? I believe he should. He's been out of the Premiership for a long time. He was losing his profile in this country. We know he wants to stay in the Premier league, his family are settled here. Chelsea have some quality players, but they are not a team. Terry and Lampard have too much power and influence. It was a good opportunity for him but a very difficult job especially with the fans audibly against you from day 1.
4) Are the Chlesea fans an "embarrassing joke"?
No, they are not. Unless we wish to hold a mirror up to ourselves and talk about Roy Hodgson. To some a respected experienced manager. To others too old, out of touch, not good enough, speaks funny, plays poor football etc etc. Hodgson was hounded out of LFC. It may have saved us further pain in the end, but it is not a period we should have any pride about and it is almost identical to what has happened to Rafa.

In summary, we cannot be critical of Chelsea fans without being complete hypocrites.

In summary, who gives a sh** about Chelsea and their fans? Rafa and Liverpool are long over, and I don't care where he goes and what he does, or anyting Chelsea for that matter
I'm here about the team I love and support, LIVERPOOL. Get behind Brendan Rodgers and support your club, don't worry about other managers and other teams

RD

I totally disagree with you, when Roy Hodgson came into the club we as fans accepted him and wished all the best, Chelsea fans have berated Rafa from day one with banners and songs, it was only a matter of time before he snapped.

Rafa Benitez lost my support after his last season with us and I thought the time was right to get a new manager in to freshen us up, rafa was a great manager and gave us some great memories and I thank him for it but he had to go! He had taken us as far as he could and lost the plot! You got to look at his transfer dealings, yes he brought in Torres, Reina, mascherano, alonso, Skrtel, agger to name a few but he was the sort of manager who was never happy with the players he had at his disposal and was always looking to sell and buy players every season, he bought over 200 players in his time with us, you look at when we finished 2nd that year and what did he do? Instead of building on it and adding one or two players to take the next step and improve the team he sold our playmaker of the team in alonso and wanted to buy barry? stupid comes to mind! he got offered to buy david silva but refused because he wanted barry! Rafa reminds me of houllier in that respect he got to a point were he had a great squad at Liverpool and instead of buying someone like david silva, he bought a diouf and took us backwards, every club he has been at he's always been at war with the owners. Valencia, Liverpool, inter, it has always got him the sack, and if anyone thought that Roy Hodgson was the answer to our problems they were out of there minds, he was the worst manager we have ever had and the owners were stupid to even get him in, he bought players like poulsen and konchesky, and got us playing the worst football I've ever seen, he didn't have a clue what to do at Liverpool and was like a rabbit caught in the headlights and blew it big time! Thank god we sacked him! Rodgers on the other hand is different, he's got a plan and will do everything he can to make it work! yes he was always going to face the backlash from fans this season because of the way kenny got sacked, yes kenny could of had another season with us but the owners thought differently and thought its time to start fresh with a new young up and coming manager with his own ideas how he wants to play the game, they know Rodgers needs time to build his team and get them playing the way he wants to! So hopefully he will get the time he needs to take us back to the top! You got to look at how happy the players are with him as manager, Suarez, gerrard, reina and co have come out and said they believe in his vision for the future! So let's get behind rodgers, the team and the owners! let's get back to being Liverpool fc as one family supporting the club like no other team can match! We are the best supporters in the world and every other team knows it and its why other fans hate us so much and Are jealous of us. Sorry To quote rafa. FACT! (Rant over)

Ack17

"In summary, who gives a sh** about Chelsea and their fans?"

Why comment then if you don't give a?

There has been a lot of discussion about this topic. If you're not interested why are you acting like you've got sand in your v?

Hodgson got sacked after 20 league games. He hardly had a chance.

02 Mar 2013 12:22:35
"4) Are the Chlesea fans an "embarrassing joke"?
No, they are not. Unless we wish to hold a mirror up to ourselves and talk about Roy Hodgson. "

Did a fans group come out and say Hodgson shouldn't be manager before a game had been played?

Was he booed when announced to the crowd in his first game? Did we hold up banners and placards saying we wanted him out on his first game?

Did we chant for Rafa back from day one?

We may not have covered ourselves in glory with our attitude to managers over the last two years, but we were never as bad as Chelsea fans were to Rafa.

Roy Hodgson is, and always will be a joke of a manager! I never supported his appointment in the 1st place! I was proved right in the end! No clue what so ever and dire football

James

To the guy slating Rafa for not building on after finishing second, you don't know what you're on about. He actually wanted Silva, Alve and Jovetic, but instead the two personsdidnt provide any money. In fact they kept a third of the money from Alonso's sale

not really a rumour; more of a thought.
does anyone else not think that Andreas Weimann from Aston Villa would be a decent purchase in the summer - cheap, young, can score goals, very versatile

anyone else think the same?

cheers BB

Decent yes. Going to get us top 4 no

Of two minds on this one. On one hand, I think Weimann is a very good player and I see him as the sort of forward BR likes- can play central, as a wide forward, or even as a more traditional winger versus say Downing who is more an out-and-out winger only.

That said, he's also very young and if we had him he might have a negative impact on Sterling's progress since they'd be in similar roles (although at the moment I think Weimann is much more rounded player than Raheem).

Good shout though- overall I think he's exactly the sort of player we should be considering.

02 Mar 2013 07:51:32
If Surez leaves we will obviously get
Edinson Cavani

Obviously

02 Mar 2013 12:30:53
I don't think Suarez will leave this year, however if he does we will really struggle to replace him. he is much better than Cavani in my opinion.

02 Mar 2013 00:48:05
Lets get this straight from the off, i'm not saying these people are targets, just should be in my opinion.
When I watch our team I can't help thinking we lack a creative force in the middle of the park, Gerrard can do it but who else? Allen and Lucas are both defensive and Henderson is still learning.
We also need an authorative cb, an organiser who will bark at those around him and ensure we are well organised.
We also need a gk to replac Reina.
Now we are selling Reina, Skrtel and Carrol in the summer, you would hope for £30m from these.
Personally I think we should go for Cabaye for cm. he's creative, young and has prem experience, but would be hard to get him away from the France training camp in the North East.
For a CB i'm a bit unsure, I think Dawson would do a good job but he is aging, yet he is a vocal cb.
For keeper I really think that Jones could hold his own for a year, if not then Al-Habsi or Krul would be superb replacements for Reina.

All these players are affordable, would add something to our starting line up and have prem experience

Thoughts guys? Any known interest from us or others in these players eds?
Anfield Andy

Need a win tomorrow but just looked at a stat that's not good!
Liverpool have failed to beat Wigan in each of their last five meetings, with their last win coming on 16 December 2009
Need to get rid of that monkey!
Paul the red

We beat them 3 nil the last time we faced them? what do you mean failed to be them in each of their last five meetings? If you mean away from home then maybe you should have said so.

When lfc start to show promise they let you down. That's the attitude. We will get beat today!

I've a good feeling today. 4-1 to the redmen.

Wow, what team do you support mate?

RD

Sorry I read an old stat we did beat them 3-0, it was the five games prior.
Common the reds need it today,
Paul the red

Downing and Henderson will be gone in the summer. The pair of them are not good enough for Liverpool.

Henderson is superb - what do you know about class?

Muppet!
