Hey ed i was just wondering what u think on scot parker, i know hes old but he would add bite to the midfield and if west ham go down he would be cheap enough, id say 7-8 million!
Also i think Gervinho would be a good striker to get as the back up, we don't need attitudes like bezema in the squad!
Finally i think ashley young would be a brillant buy, cheapish and proven in the premiership!
Ed whats your view on parker? {Ed001's Note - I don't think any of those players you are calling for are good enough. Parker has already shown how little he can add to a big team, he is at the level that suits him best.}

Ed. Rumours please!:) why do you think benzema would fit in and do you think there'd be enough money left for wingers and other positions? {Ed001's Note - I don't think he would fit in, I think he is lazy and doesn't work hard enough for the team. But buying him would still leave money for wingers as well.}

02 May 2011 23:13:38
Ed won't it be good if Roy dodgesign could sign koncheskey, poulsen even take jovanavich that would be 3 deadwood gone. {Ed001's Note - it would be nice, but I can't see it happening.}

Martin {Ed005's Note - Although that is your opinion - I would take Sissoko as we already have a DM in Lucas. And sorry but I know Gerrard is a legend and that, but Sissoko is more than capable of being a long-term replacement. And one advantage he has over Gerrard is the fact that he works a lot harder, chases people down and can defend aswell as offering good offensive ability.}
- - - - - - - - -

I know what you mean, Ed. Sissoko is a really good player, and if he was to be the replacement of anyone other than Gerrard he would easily fill their boots but from what I've seen of him (which is quite a lot, tbf) he doesn't offer quite as much as Gerrard does and there are other players who would, imho, do a better job of replacing our captain. I also read he has a history of attitude problems, but as I said, I'd still be happy if we signed him - just not over the moon.

As for your point about Lucas being a perfectly good DM; I agree wholeheartedly with that statement. Lucas is a very good DM, but (as one poster so aptly put it a few days ago) I see Lucas more as a 'bomb-dismantler' than a classic Mascherano-like DM who goes into tough tackles regardless of whether or not the odds are in their favour. You don't see Lucas going into 50-50 challenges at every opportunity; he's more skilled in breaking down opposition attacks, getting the ball and running with it so as to give it to the attackers who will make something happen.
M'Vila is a tough-tackling DM. He wins the ball in midfield, doesn't matter if an opposition attack is on or not, he'll go flying in and win the ball to give to the attackers. Most tough-tackling DMs are dreadful at passing (ie, Mascherano), but this kid is highly skilled at picking a key pass and unlike Masch he can actually keep the ball.

I'm not saying sod Lucas and go buy M'Vila, just that M'Vila would give our midfield much more aggression and bite (which won't happen with pansies like Meireles and Lucas about the place) and would, imo, be money better spent than on Sissoko.
It would also be interesting to see M'Vila and Lucas as partners in a 4-2-3-1, anchoring the play with their mixture of ball-winning skills and technical ability.

King Kenny need to be quality not quantity
The downfall of Rafa is he bought in too many players which is not suitable to play in th Premier League £226m for 76 players
I hope King Kenny don't make that mistake

02 May 2011 23:04:28
All these people who are saying all these stupid rumours about us buying 6 or 7 players for 10-20 million are all wrong. Kenny is gonna be given 50 mil and any money he gets from transfers off the players he sells.
The rumours I have heard the most about are Sylvian Marveaux, Bojan, Ashley Young, Lavezzi, Barton, Enrique and Iker Muniain (all from BBC sport gossip coloumn). Ed's out of 10 what's the chance of getting these players ?? I don't think we will get all of thesebut I think wewill get Marveaux definatly, but I aren't sure about the rest.
The only thing is kenny isn't gonna give anything away so we can't be sure about who were going to sign. But I do see good things ahead for us! CMON LIVERPOOL YNWA :)

If we end the season on 64 points each with man city, they would get 4th on goal difference.

The only way we could get 4th if is Man city loose 3 and draw 1 and we win our last 3! Would be a dream come true but unfortunately it prob wnt come tru :(

RedChris
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Not entirely as City now have 62 pts and if they finish on 64 they have to lose 2 and draw 2 (drawing leaves goal difference unchanged while losing reduces it). As it stands their gd is 7 more than us and to finish on 64 would reduce their gd by a minimum of 2 which gives them 5 more than what we currently have. To match them on 64 we would have to win our remaining games which would increase our gd. But to be above them on gd would require us to for example beat Fulham 3-1, Spurs 2-0 and Villa 3-1 if the 2 games City lose were lost by only 1 goal. If city lose by at least 1 goal more though we could score one goal less. Honestly though this would all be too dramatic.

Anyone know if Dani Pachecos deal to Norwich is likely to be made permanent following there return to the top flight or does KD have him in his plans for us next season ??? Cheers Riles YNWA14

Hi Ed. Don't know if you watched the game against Newcastle but i was quite impressed with Enrique. I think he'd be a great addition to the squad. What are your thoughts on him if he was to join us? Cheers Ed. {Ed001's Note - what impressed you about him? Was it his ability to pass the ball to a red shirt continually?}

Everyone on this site really wants M'Vila and Sissoko to join Liverpool but is it came down to just one of them joining who would it be?

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

M'Vila. Whenever I've seen him play he's always struck me as a player who could potentially become a mix of Claude Makelele and Patrick Viera. He's strong in the tackle, quick, could keep the ball all day, can pick a good pass when he wants to and is partial to the odd goal or two - despite being a defensive midfielder. He'd also add some much-needed bite to our midfield.

Whenever I've watched Sissoko I've found he's a good player who could potentially be very good, but he's nowhere near good enough to even be considered as Gerrard's replacement. While I wouldn't be disappointed at all if we signed Sissoko, I'd much rather we look at Martinez of Bilbao for centre midfield who, in my opinion, is a much better all-round midfielder.

Martin {Ed005's Note - Although that is your opinion - I would take Sissoko as we already have a DM in Lucas. No problem Mick! I was intrigued to see your post and decided to look it up, looking forward too seeing how it all pans out this summer its going to be a mad one that's for sure!

You are right about Mihaylov, he has rich goalkeeping heritage (Father and Grandfather), young (22/ 23), and has talented enough to develop well under the right leadership.

Insua and Aquilani should give another chance
Insua is play good in Turkey and should brought back to the left back
Next Season Liverpool should spent on two world class Winger

Robben
Ribery
Both want to left Bayer and £60m will secure both of them
Wickham and Alex Chamberlain (future) should add to the squad as Wickham is option for forward and left side and Chamberlain is option on the right wing and centre both cost £10m each
IF we play are card right we might get two Frenchman free Marveaux and Mexes
Owen might be option what ever people say about him, he still a good player and KK fancies bringing him back and he is free

Liverpool would have spent £80m and player sales £20m total £60m

Flanagan, Robinson, Coady and Shelvey
they should get more chance
I know they are still young
as old saying if you're good enough you're old enough

OK people I just don't get it? Why spend 30 - 40m on two central mids in Sisoko and M'vila? We would effectively have Sisoko, M'villa, Gerrard, Marieles, Lucas, Spearing, Shelvey, Suso. . . . a bit over crowded don't you think???????

Sissoko is seen as a long term replacement for gerrard and could be paired with Lucas and M'vila as Defensive mids as i'm not too sure over meireles as he is quite inconsistent and is reaching 29 so with those 3 in midfield for years to come we will have a very strong backbone to the side, with some quality wingers and maybe a CB we will be challenging for the title as well as CL football

Regarding Sahin, it's been reported on Marca and one or two sites earlier today that the deal with Madrid was done, now there is a story that Sahin and his representatives will decide on his future and will announce next week.

It also says in the Marca article that his buyout is 6 million euros (fixed or base not sure), crazy buy for whoever gets him!

Marca is hit and miss in my experience of it, (announced Khedira and Ozil deals well before it was widespread but have been inaccurate regarding others) so lets wait and see! Although I did see a post on the main page stating it had been reported on French Tv so??

As eds have pointed out he has the pick of many clubs including those with CL to offer so unlikely he would choose us, but a steal for whoever he goes to!

All we need is replacements for those players that we bought the last 2 seasons that are (hardly)not playing.
konchesky
poulsen
aquilani
jovanovic
soto
aurelio
ngog
maxi
cole

flanagan kelly johnson cara skrtl agger robinson +2
spearing lucas gerrard meirelles shelvey+2
kuyt carrol suarez +3

we need 2 left footed defenders kelly will play in the middle soon.and flanagan and robinson need time to get more games(maybe looned out)and 1 central defender to replace soto
we need 1 defensive midfielder and attacking midfielder.(poulsen aquilani)
we need another striker (ngog)and we need 2 wingers.
we need 8 players and i think we will need 2 seasons to get what we need.4/ 5 this season and the other 3 next season.
KENNY is giving the young players a chance and i think he will continue to do so next season.
to win the league we need a strong squad, first eleven is not important.
KENNY knows what kind of prospects we have in the youth teams, he will buy what he thinks we have missing.
maybe KENNY does not want to buy a right winger because of sterling and in tthe mean time kuyt johnson could play there.
we are not that far behind the top 4 this season, with agger and gerrard fit we would have had more points.
if KENNY gets the backing he needs from HENRY THIS SUMMER we will be back next season.
all players are giving KENNY that little extra, THE PLAYERS LOVE HIM.
we already have some very good players we need some investment and some time.
ed? {Ed001's Note - I am a little lost as to why we need to replace players that don't play?}

I m not saying Liverpool don t need a few new players and all, and that there are definitely players that they have absolutely no use for but
Has anyone actually been paying attention to the team that they ve already got? They ve actually been doing pretty well, and quite frankly, should be as fear as Manchester United at this point, and they ve got 4 out injured. Including their captain.
So why all the constant insistence that a major shake up is coming? Bringing in new players doesn t mean that they ll improve the team chemistry any.
I think they need a Left Back, while Johnson, Kelly, and he rotate, with Flanno and Robbo for further cover.We need a Left Wing.We have none at the moment, really, and no one in the academy on the left, really. Meireles belongs in the center. Maxi can stay to fill in on either side. Keeping Kuyt in to play the RW isn t a bad plan, even though he s not a winger. Putting Kuyt in any particular position doesn t seem to have a point he s everywhere anyway, and he s useful as such.
But we may want a RW. Raheem Sterling can get worked in over the future.
We COULD get another striker, or simply work in Kuyt as neeeded, and bring through Adam Morgan. Pacheco may have found his groove. So non-essential.
That s really it. 3-4 are really all that s needed. Make them big name signings.
CB? Carra s got at least a year left, Skrtel s turned it all around, Soto might go, Agger could be replaced, but they still have Wilson, Kelly, Wisdom, Ayala Plenty of CB options.
They ve got Suso, Shelvey, Spearing, Lucas, Gerrard, Meireles Do we REALLY need a new CM?
We could go for more, but honestly, I think they re better with 3 huge signings, rather than 5 or 6 mediocre signings. {Ed001's Note - you do realise that Raheem Sterling and Tom Ince are both left wingers don't you? And that Silva plays on the right, but is left footed and can also play left wing? I am lost as to why you think there are no left wingers in the academy!}

Y would tottenham giv up on more revenue its silly tht they would rather finsh 6th than getting money of five and and getting the money off going thru to the knock outs its stupid people would so next they won't be competing in the fa cup and the league cup so they can compete soundly in the league every team wants to finsh highly as possible

In response to this:

I heard Tottenham were planning on giving up 5th place because europa league will ruin their chances of getting back into the champions league next year.

Liverpool will go for 4th but if they end up in the europa league they will give the young players such as sterling, morgan, suso, coady and Silva a chance so that it won't get in the way of our premier league campaign.

No more selling our promising youth players to championship teams!

Have you watched the U18's much this season? While Sterling looks excellent (decision making and ability) I think Suso has gone off the boil (tbf it's his 1st season playing in a different country etc. ) and Silva is either brilliant or very poor; he doesn't anticipate where the ball is going to go and some of his decision making isn't great (again he's v young and hopefully this will come).

You might be right about Coady getting some matches but I would expect us to still want to win the competition so Wilson, Flanagan, Robinson, Shelvey and Ayala are more likely to be regular starters IMO.

In terms of selling promising players to the championship we haven't had that many to sell; when you look at Man Utd they have sold players from the reserves for millions (Campbell - £7m - we sold Hammill, Anderson and Hobbs for little more than £1m a couple of seasons ago).

Ed, any chance of us getting sahin if real madrid deal doesn't go through and if it does then any chance of xabi alonso coming back? {Ed001's Note - there is more chance of getting Alonso, Sahin has his pick of clubs, it is very unlikely he would pick us. Alonso, on the other hand, has a great affection for Liverpool, it is hard to see him picking someone else if he has the change to come back. Hard to say if Madrid would be willing to let him go, but it does seem Sahin is a replacement and their chase of Schweinsteiger also seemed to be an attempt to replace him. He obviously doesn't sell enough shirts to stay in the Madrid team!}

The probably is that we probably won't stomp the cash to pay for him. Unless Madrid are willing to let him go cheaply (15-20 million) then I don't see us getting him.

Sorry Macca,
but have to disagree with you mate, downing is an average player with a decent left foot and Young is hugely overated who reminds me of a joe cole, not a out and out winger that we need, tends to play through the middle and would be out of his depth at LFC even with kk in charge and i doubt the latter would want to be a squad player and he isn't good enough to be a regular at LFC either. Both young and downing may be both english but villa won't sell their two best players cheap and in my opinion theres alot better out their available and cheaper options take payet for e.g. who is an outstanding prospect and just 23 whilst young and downing are both 26, 27 mark. NO thanks

I think if there is anyone on the free transfer list, I'd go for Seb Larsson of Birmingham. He'd be a very good squad player and will eventually learn to play like we do, could be big. Bigger acquisition then Marveaux in my opinion.
We should sign another young winger for the left and a class marquee signing for the left wing.
A good defensive left back who isn't shy of breaking forward and whipping one in, a midfield player like Moussa Sissoko and a talented young striker, now that Kuyt has stepped up to plate.
The players who I think should definately be on the way out are:-
Fabio Aurelio
Kyrgiakos
Poulsen
Jovanovic
Others leaving will be Insua, Aquilani, Konchesky and the like.
I wouldn't mind one bit if we can get a Hyppia kind of centre back in the summer, how amazing would that be, oh dreams. :/
I do know one thing though, we will be a force to be reckoned once again.

What like Alonso did just before he offed his clogs to Madrid? Means nothing now all that. Stopped our kids getting names on their shirts this year and so glad we did now. I remember seeing a kid of about 6 years old in the new home kit with Aquilani's name on just before he got shipped out to Juve, poor kid.

To the poster who enquired about Nikolay Mihaylov, here is the interview, he did it end of March apparently,

Nikolay Mihaylov, the 22-year-old Bulgarian goal keeper, revealed Liverpool goal keeper Pepe Reina was desperate for an Anfield exit. Mihaylov signed for Liverpool in the 2007 season from Levski Sofia but due to lack of first team football he transferred to FC Twente on loan. After three seasons with the Dutch side he established himself as the first choice keeper and in 2010 made the move permanent.

Mihaylov was confident of the rumours regarding Reina s wish to leave Liverpool, he said while speaking to reporters, I know from my agent Pepe Reina wants to go back to Spain. His desire dates back one or two years. It's not difficult to see this. I know him well - he's one of the best 'keepers in the world but his current form is not as it should be in a club like Liverpool.

Even though the Bulgarian international signed a three year deal with Twente in 2010, he revealed he would be interested in going back to Liverpool if Reina did indeed decide to leave. Previously he was unable to stay at the club, having failed to acquire a British visa, but the 22-year-old does not face that problem any longer since he will now be able to get a work permit.

He admitted his desire to return to the club, he said, Liverpool are a huge club. It wasn't possible to get a work visa when I went there but now there'll be no such problems because I'm playing regularly in the national team. I think [the buy-back clause is] absolutely real. The option was made when Rafa Benitez was in charge.

Make of it what you will, who knows??!

4) VDV, Sniejder and Robben failed at Madrid as they weren't good enough and didn't try hard enough. Why keep high wage players who don't try hard.

And yet all three played in a World Cup Final, two played in a Champions League final and one won a domestic treble including the Champions League the very same season they were cut loose by the Galactico's. Behave will you.

{Ed002's Note - Actually I think the expectations are probably a little high in some quarters. Champions League qualification is critical. Some folks think the Europa League is somewhere to give the kids a run out for a couple of games. Believe me, Liverpool cannot afford to easily give up the potential Europa League income. It seems to be easy for some to see spending vast amounts of money without considering where it is coming from as a viable way forward. It isn't I am afraid.}

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I think that the younger fans have watched Chelsea & Man City spend huge amounts of money that they "didn't make" (even J. Henry stated he could not believe that Chelsea had a record loss for the previous year, but spent 70 million on two players in January). I have to believe that these fans claiming the club will spend 200+ are actually living in a fantasy world populated by Chelsea fans, City fans & Madrid fans, as these are the only clubs that actually throw money away like they are at a strip club.

FSG have a plan, the club will be sustainable and the money the club generates will go back into the club. Europa league, although inferior to champions league, is still a trophy & a money generator. We need 3-4 players at the most. I have faith that the players we get will be LFC quality & I will support them as I have all the others (although it is not always easy)

Regards to Sahin to Madrid.

1) People say he will be a squad player and won't be successful there; needless to say he is younger than Xabi and Lass and has a long career.

2) Of course he'll start off on the bench and work his way to a 1st teamer.

3) Regards to being a flop and sold in 2 years for half the price; Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira; identical things were said about these two and surprise surprise they turned out amazing.

4) VDV, Sniejder and Robben failed at Madrid as they weren't good enough and didn't try hard enough. Why keep high wage players who don't try hard.

IF he goes to Madrid he will be great there and it is undeniable that he has bags of talent and will be a success.

I say we sould go for real madrid outcasts in gago and drenthe both of them combined would cost as much as one M'vila. gago is a better at both tackling and passing than M'vila just duno if gago would get a work permit has he got a EU passport or has he played in enough international games recently to qualify? and Drenthe is still young, he's strong, has speed, skill and versatil. both young and would be interested in a move to liverpool.

I see what your saying and there was a time i thought he was poop, but this year i think he has come a long way and will continue to do so. Think he needs to do a soccer AM though and hit the weights lol {Ed001's Note - that won't matter, his problems are the usual ones of a player who is designed for speed. His hamstrings and back are always going to suffer niggles, slight niggles which will lead to tears and those injuries will take the edge off his speed. I doubt he will stay fit long enough to work on his physique enough to cure the problems.}

Just on this

Ed wts the deal with nikolay mihaylov spell I knw he dint play for us work permit I think and he's at twente but is he there permanently and if so is there a buy back option and would he be of interest and if so is he good enough cheers {Ed002's Note - He was transfered there permanently.}

mihaylov has recently said on lfc.tv that lpool have first option and he wants to come back if pepe goes , ill try find the link on lfc.tv and post it, he is a really good keeper.

just my own info i heard : young and downing for 32m combined but villa may want insua and joe cole as part of deal heard of my friend who is villa supporters chairman of ireland.
ngog is to be used in a deal for babafemi gomis off lyon.

Ed, what chance will Arsenal listen to an offer for Theo? He never completes 90 mins for them, even when he looks to be the main threat he comes off and i think the dissapointment shows more and more.
He has come a long way this year and i'd like to see him at LFC. What sort of price would they want? How longs his contract?
I think they paid a fair bit for him as a lad so i guess 20 mil before they even thought about it? {Ed001's Note - unlikely they would sell him, he comes off to protect him, he is very fragile. I would hope we would not even consider him, he is a winger who can't cross or a striker who won't shoot, neither are of any use to us! His contract has a couple of years left yet and he cost them something along the lines of 11m + add ons.}

Have we ever replace those players whom are been consistance for us
Alvaro Arbeloa replaced with Glen Johnson defender can't defend great going forward
Javier Mascherano Hodgson replace him with Poulsen different Class
Xabi Alonso Rafa try to replace him with injury Aquilani you all know what happen
Yossi Benayoun Hodgson replace him with free transfer Joe Cole pass his best
Peter Crouch - haven't replace him at all
Fernando Torres - KK bought in overprice Andy Carroll time will tell
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Arbeloa-Johnson Johnson is a fine player and has been great under Kenny.
Mascherano-Lucas A fantastic season for Lucas
Alonso-Nobody
Benayoun-Cole Yes fair play Cole hasn't been great. .
Crouch-Carroll. . . . .
Torres-Suarez. . . . . .

I know Suarez was brought to play with Torres but it didn't work out that way and i would rather have a front 2 of Suarez and Carroll then Crouch and Torres.

Ed, I feel like in the summer we should be focusing on top quality players like Hazard, Hulk and Benzema for example rather than adding more average players like adam, enrique, wickham or many others that we are linked with. Just wondering what your views on that were? {Ed002's Note - My views are all over these pages about the players you have suggested. I wrk on media city in salford on one of the building sites, today i met a brazilian lad who has been wrking on there an got talking about football, he seems to think the following brazilians will be moving clubs

douglas costa- inter milan he'll choose the italian league over the prem because he doesn't like the physical nature of our game

neymar- ac milian not chelsea because he has been pursuaded by robinho who was like a mentor to him when he went back to brazil on loan

willian- has the option of alot of clubs around europe but has decided he wants a move to england with either chelsea or liverpool, if we get european football next season my friend tells me that willian will choose us over chelsea

kaka- he also told me that a shock move may be kaka to go back to brazil, i can't see it happenin but he seemed adamant

michel bastos- chelsea bound so it seems to replace zhirkov

oh and another thing he told me after raving about our boy lucas, if he continues to produce these fine performances for club and country when the world cup goes to brazil he'l get the captains armband

ed would love to hear your views {Ed002's Note - Well you never know - stranger things have happened. Or have they?}

@Ed002

Lol! Well, I wouldn't see it as giving up, just being realistic with my expectations.
I've always been of the view that, whilst a CL place IS a sure guarantee, there's only an outside chance of the Prem tiltle.

If we can have a good start and remain consistent, hover around third, we'll have a good chance of winning if we can capatilise on slip ups of the main challengers.
When you're comfortably in third, there does exist a chance.

Thing is I don't really see Chelsea going through anything like we saw some months.
It's possible, but the bad performances and inconsistencies of this season and, to an extent, the past one, won't be that common next season.
Also, if City can chuck out Mancini and get in a proper manager like Van Gaal, who'll far get the best out of the attacking talents they have, they'll be a force.
But if Roberto stays then I see that battle for a top 4.

As you say, ed, you never know. Liverpool could win the league, after all, we'll have, I believe, a team stronger than that of Arsenal and, though, of United's, and Arsenal could easily have won by now.
So it's very much possible.

Personally, I'll be happy with the Europa, Super Cup, FA Cup and Community Shield plus a Champions League spot, more especially when you consider what could've happened about 8 months ago.
If the chance to win the league is there, then hell yeah go for it.
But for now, I'll keep my expectations moderate.

Do you think I'm setting my expectations rather too low, ed?

Fowler Bless Ye All
Cudroe

{Ed002's Note - Actually I think the expectations are probably a little high in some quarters. Champions League qualification is critical. Some folks think the Europa League is somewhere to give the kids a run out for a couple of games. Believe me, Liverpool cannot afford to easily give up the potential Europa League income. It seems to be easy for some to see spending vast amounts of money without considering where it is coming from as a viable way forward. It isn't I am afraid.}

After reading several rumours (and also many unrealistic wishlists) I believe the most viable and preferable team for next season is:

Reina

Johnson. . . .Carra. . .Sakho. . . .Enrique

Payet. . . . Gerrard( if fit). . . Sissoko. . . Elia

. . . . . . . . Suarez. . . .Carroll

Subs/ Reserves:
Gulacsi
Kelly
Skrtel
Robinson
Flanno
Coady
Lucas
Meireles
M'vila
Marveaux
Kuyt
Lukaku
(Sterling)
(Suso)

With Ngog, Shelvey, and Spearing on loan

In:
Sakho 15m
Enrique 10m ( would prefer Cissokho but price is an issue)
Sissoko 15m?
Mvila 15m?
Lukaku 20m
Elia 12m
Payet 10m
Marveaux Free

97m (max.)

Out:
Agger 8m
Poulsen 3m
Jovanovic 5m
Cole 5m
Insua 4m
Degen 2m
Kyrgiakos Released
Aurelio Released
El Zhar 1m
Darby 0.5m
Irwin 0.5m
Maxi 3m
Aquilani 13m

45m

I believe this is a strong squad which could contend for major honours next year. I believe these transfers are not too unrealistic as they all keep with FSG's policy along with a reasonable budget of 50m (which has been rumoured); and with the outlay of several players, there will be a free-up of wages which can be used to lure in the top targets (Lukaku, Sakho, Sissoko) along with european football and hopefully champions league next season.

What do you think Ed's?

YNWA {Ed002's Note - I never comment on teams but "broadly" the targets are viable.}

This Europa League issue's a big conundrum.
I don't want any Thursday night trips to the middle of nowhere.
I feel it low and totally unbefitting of an institution of our stature.

But, as a matter importance, I want my club to finish as high as possible.
5th is and always will be better than 6th.
An added bonus, of course, will be finishing above those cocky and delusional Londoners and condemn them to eternal midtable mediocrity.
After the start we had and disparaging we got from them, nothing would please me more than to overtake them.

But come to think of it, it's no point even discussing the issue. What will be will be.
I don't expect my players to deliberately drop points.
The way it's going, we very much WILL be in the EL (boy do I HATE saying that).
There's bugger all we can do about it.

Let's use it to give our young lads some game time and win it if there's a chance to.
A trophy's a trophy, and we exist to win them.
I'm sure many won't be too displeased if we win it and go on to face the CL winner (likely to be Barca) in that European Super Cup, or whatever it's called.

If we win that, that's two trophies, an FA Cup trophy and a Champions league spot end of season.
Three trophies and a CL spot all in one season would be massive.

We go to Wembely for the Community Shield (hopefully against we old friend, Torres).
We win that and go into the 2012/ 13 season with four trophies (Europa, Super Cup, FA Cup and Community Shield) and back in the Champions League.
That's four trophies, folks.
And you know what, it's all VERY POSSIBLE.

From that perspective, the EL wouldn't be as bad as believed to be.
So fellas, let's give it a go. No "going through the motions" or "riding it out". Let's give it a prope go.
In the grand scheme of things, it'll be of some importance.

Goodness me! Talk about a complete somersault, bloody change of heart.
Ed, what's your take, not about the money it would bring but generally about it as a trophy, glory?

Fowler Bless Ye All
Cudroe

{Ed002's Note - Well you never know. But I notice that you have given up any thoughts of winning the league next season and decided to hand that to Chelsea and focus on the FA Cup instead.}

"Romelu for me is the one who'll eventually put pen to paper.
The kid is the best striker prospect in Europe, what with him likely to be as good as, and potentially better than, Didier. He's tailor-made for the Prem and his age is another plus factor.
£26m for this kid would be money well spent."

I live in Belgium - was speaking with an Anderlecht season ticket holder yesterday at a lunchtime party - he was all nervous bless, because he was going to see Anderlecht play Brugge in the league playoffs yesterday (0-0 btw). . I told him the English newspapers were quoting 25/ 27 million sterling for Lukaku. . he laughed and said for that money Anderlecht would bite anyone's hand off. Yes he's a good player, stong, quick, and a stand-out in the Belgian Jupiler league, but that league is weak and he's gone well off the boil recently. I think paying that kind of money for someone who's only played in that league is madness.

It is rumoured that Liverpool already have made under the table verbal deals. Silvain Marvoux and Ezekiel Lavezzi will be Liverpool's first two summer signings. Expect Liverpool to sign a left back, Center back, Left Winger and a world class player. It is believed that in total there will be 11 players leaving with several youth academy players promoted to the squad. Daniel Hanwell YNWA

Could you elaborate a bit on this please pal as for me signing Lavezzi would be the finishing touch to a formidable strike force. Suarez, carrol and Lavezzi! My goodness, they'd run amock next year. Lavezzi's a fantastic footballer with good centre of gravity not to disimilar to Messi and ideal for the premiership. A solid centre half and a defensive left backand we hav a squad to push for the Title.

I agree totally.
Steven Gerrard will be playing more as a defensive midfielder in his last years at Liverpool, possibly more then often next season. Ezekiel Lavezzi will be used as a center forward behind Luis and Andy and could play on the right midfield if needed. Leighton Baines and Gary Cahil look likely to be put straight into the first team next season with Fabio Aurelio, Paul Konchesky and Kygriakos leaving.
Reina will sign a 4 year contract taking the number 1 shirt.
Marvoux and Joe Cole will be our left wingers. Lucas & Gerrard, Spearing & meireles as our central midfielders. Glen Johnson and a surprise signing will play on the right. Carragher, Agger, Cahil and Skrtel will be our centerbacks. Kelly and Flanagan our right backs, Robinson and Baines as our left backs. Andy, Luis, Lavezzi and Dirk Kuyt will be our forwards. Rahim Sterling, maxi and Danny Wilson will make up the 25 man squad. With a few more players going loan including Shelvey. The balance of the squad is most important when rebuilding a team. I think Kenny and Damien have it spot on With the youth players and the more experienced players. The bench will be very balanced too, I can't see any players complaining too much.

I have nothing to prove you either believe it or not. Wait and see. .

For those asking. Big Sami said he will be coaching in Germany next year with Leverkusen, whilst also working with the Finnish national team and completing his coaching badges. He said so in an interview I read earlier today, he said he's committing 100% to coaching, he won't be approaching his new career half-assed! Thats big Sami! {Ed002's Note - Squad players don't all sit on the bench all the time you know. He is young, going to a major club, he has to prove that he is worth a start. Tactically there will be games where he will start from the bench and sometimes not be included at all.}

He'll be on the bench more times then not. He'll only play when Alonso doesn't. If Alonso went to Madrid instead of going to Liverpool, I am fairly sure that'll he wouldn't have become the same player he is today.

I can name countless players who went to Madrid to be "squad players" only to never get a game, loaned out or sold for half the price. {Ed001's Note - I could do the same about any club.}

Ed can you suggest any good free signings that would be good enough in being apart of a liverpool squad to get us back in to the top 4 and even a push for the title

Jones, Kyrgiakos, Degen, Poulsen, Konchesky, Jovanovic, Ngog, Aquilani, Insua, Aurelio, Irwin, Darby, Pacheo, and Joe Cole all set to leave Liverpool in the summer.
Lavezzi, Shane Long, O'Hara(if Adam goes to spurs), Payet, Marveaux(free), Tawio(free), Enrique, Given (worked with Kenny at Blackburn, Newcastle and celtic), Gary Cahill, Conor Thomas and Nick Powell(youth signings). All signins are young (except given)and decent and will have a high resale value.

What do you think?

02 May 2011 13:58:20
Kk makes things look simple all he has done as up the tempo and told the players to get extra players in the box get shots in and be there for rebounds we lacked that when we relied on torres and gerrard wenow look like a team with torres sold and sadly stevie out injured when steve is fit and we solve our lb problem and get in the wingers the smiles on the liverpool fans will be beaming next season and watch for some great displays next season give kk a 5 year deal

02 May 2011 14:00:07
Possible signings for this summer:

Nicholas Douchez to sign on a free transfer from Rennes, 30, great GK who would be an excellent number 2 to Pepe and wouldn't mind playing 2nd fiddle.

Scotty Dann to sign for £8m, top draw CB and a life-long Liverpool fan, former season ticket holder. Replacement for Soto, him Carra, Kelly, Skrtel, Agger, Wilson would give great competiton for CB. Good to have EPL proven players, age 23 and will be even better in a few years.

Leighton Baines for £15m, best LB in the country and lifelong Liverpool fan. No-brainer, Moyes will replace him with Izaguirre of Celtic who he's a big fan of. He would want the move if we were interested, fact.

Charlie Adam to sign for £7m from Blackpool. Haven't had a good Scottish player since Sounness, been too long and would fit right in well. Would create healthy competition for CM, better than untested foreign central players - too important position to gamble on ie. Poulsen

Sylvain Marveaux to sign free from Rennes too, great left sided utility player. Can play LW and LB and great cover, better than player centre mid players out wide.

Ashley Young for £12m, G.Barry was worth £12m when he had 1 year left on his Villa contract so same should apply (unless there is a bidding war, hopefully not) - Him and Glen Johnson are great friends, would form a great partnership on the right flank, can play left sided and an EPL proven player.

Pablo Hernandez to sign for £15m, quality right winger made available by Valencia who still need to sell player at the moment. Will be the surprise signing, aged 25 would fit perfectly and is good friends with Pepe. Him or Dzsudzs k, but concerned over him playing in a poor league. Pablo scored a beauty against Barca a few months ago.

Bojan of Barcelona to sign on a season-long loan with a view for a permament deal. Quality 3rd choice striker, 21, take into account if Suarez were injured for a few months, we'd have no quick strikers who can get in between the play and squeeze defences. Commoli pulled of Dos Santos to spurs a few years ago, he'll do the same again. Loan better than paying ridiculous £20m or something.

02 May 2011 14:01:39
Ed who has the last word on transfers dalglish or commoli i hope we don't buy anymore donkeys like previous managers have who are the best targets available in your opinion {Ed002's Note - The Board has the last word on transfers in order to release the funds - Tom Werner and perhaps Ian Ayre. As far as choice is concerned, Comolli is in charge of transfers but I am sure Dalglish has significant input.}

02 May 2011 13:49:04
Reading on here that Sahin is on his way to Real Madrid come the summer. Why any attacking would want to go there with Mourinho in charge is beyond me. His tactics are worse than Hodgsons, except Roy did have £200M worth of attacking players at his disposal. Mourinho has been exposed.

02 May 2011 13:46:30
I trust kk and don't think he will bring in to many top player he will get the wings sorted and a lb and maybe a couple of youngsters for the future i see more leaving making liverpool over half the money back that we will spend in the summer and then if needed he will strengthen in jan i see we have agreed to sign maveraux for free i think wendt is free and would be lb and then we only paying for turan to play rw and a couple of youngsters and we could make between 25-40 million in sales i am so looking forward to a great season from liverpool next season can't wait for the summer of comings and goings

02 May 2011 13:45:09
Worried about some of the poor names being suggested as targets, LFC need to spend all their money to sign 3 top class players the likes of barton, nzogbia, mccartney, downing , adams etc will not improve squad at all. we have enough strength in depth as cover we need to sign players like suarez who are world class and will go into the first team straight away.
i still maintain we should re- sign alonso and go for mata.
what does ed feel about the average names being touted about. {Ed001's Note - I trust Dalglish's judgement and ability to know what the team needs, after all he is the one who knows exactly how they will be utilised.}

@ All the rumours involving Jack Wilshere.
Am I the only one who thinks he is well overrated.
When he won PFA Young Player of the Year he only had 1 goal (Villa 2-4 Arsenal) and 3 assists. I think that is pretty poor for ''The Fututre of English Football''.
I am not saying he won't improve but he is well overrated.

I totally agree , i think the media got carried away with his real ability after the excellent 45 mins he had against Barca.the problem with the PFA awards is they vote in Jan so whoever is hot then tends to win .Im not saying he is a bad player but Arsenal play a decent style of football so his ability will be heightened with the players around.He is no better then Fabregas was at 17 and i rate Aaron Ramsey higher.

He is a decent player and seems to have fit into arsenal perfectly by having that losing mentality at a young age.As an england supporter i wish he was a good as the media says he is but then again we all know that media believe engand has the best team in the world.I will keep an open mind on Jack.If we were willing to sign him your looking at 35m+ as English players get valued like this

can use right foot- 10m
can use left foot- 10m
can use head-5m
can pass-5m
can shoot -5m
add on 1m per good game they have and 2m per media good game.

I would rather spend the money on Neymar, Christian Eriksen, Sanchez, Bojan , Canales, Pastore, Pato or give a chance to Suso or Coady.

He is a good player but please none of this talk of a great player 1 season is not enough you only have to look at messi's achievements to see where the bar has been raised.

Milner is so overated and where is merieles?? Fans player of the season not even in the squad?? I'd have him over Milner any day and tbh Lucas has been quality this season, i'd rather money be spent on wingers and the defence rather tha M'Vila although he's a good player

I think this team is near enough spot on, I am glad that somebody has picked Stevie Nicol, as I think he must be one of the most underrated players in Liverpool history, rarely gets a mention, but could play anywhere and I don't remember him ever getting destroyed by anyone! Plus he won player of the year also, which is a good achievement for a defender as its usually forwards/ midfielders that win it!

what the hell is the fair play league?!

JSR34-YNWA

{Ed002's Note - Their is a series of Europe wide fair play leagues with teams ranked for number of yellows, reds, nifty football etc.. The three highest ranked leagues (at present Norway, England and one other I cannot recall) each get one extra place in the Europa League. This goes to the highest placed team that has not already qualified for Europe. The last time I looked Chelsea were at teh top, but they had already qualified, and Fulham were second - so they are best placed to get one of the three additional places. The idea is to reward the good guys.}

{Ed002's Note - I have no real preference but think Marveaux will go ahead and Payet would be the best option for the right (if PSG's interest can be overcome). Perotti and Muniain are not out of the questions. For a versatile forward, Van Wolfswinkel, Gervinho and Park Chu-Yong are viable options. Young may also still be an option.}

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

i'm not too sure on marveaux personally only due to his injury nothing else though, he's certainly the right style of winger we should be looking at same with payet from what i can gather.

gervinho or park chu-yong i wouldn't mind but i'm not convinced by young or van wolfswinkel. i don't like right footed players on the left or left footed on the right as there only ever gonna do one thing which is cut inside, so unless messi or ronaldo decide to buy them selfs out there contracts declare there love for lfc and take massive paycuts to come and play for us i'd rather look at other options.

i'm not a fan of van wolfswinkle either i thought he looked weak against us and didn't really threaten us i'd rather the lavezzi thing came good as he was a real handfull.

Got talking to one of the stewards at anfield yesterday. He was telling us that the descision to redevelop anfield has been made and will be announced after the spurs game apparently planning permission granted. He also said that the work will begin this summer starting with the annie road, followed by the main stand after next season. Apparently giving us a capacity of 60,000 + on completion. Has anyone else heard anything i find it hard to believe that it could have been kept quiet if building is to begin this summer. However not sure why this steward said what he said without some truth in the story.

Ed if a player sign's for a team and play's seven or eight games and that team won' the premier league would he qualify for a medal? {Ed002's Note - No, the League Champions shall further receive 21 commemorative medals to be presented by the Club to its Manager and to such of its Players and Officials as it thinks fit provided, in the case of a Player, that he has that Season played in a minimum of 10 of its League Matches. If more than 20 players have played more than 10 games, then additional medals may be presented with the consent of the FA Board. Manchester United have argued special cases in the past, and Chelsea had an additional medal struck for a player who had been out injured for much of the season meaning he could not have a medal.}

Hi Ed002's Note

Spurs will finish higher than Fulham so wouldn't they get the extra place as they are from London, think you might be wrong no extra place for London clubs
mkdlfc

Just wondering what the script for the Europa Cup is.

Last year we had to start in the 1st or 2nd qualifying rounds really early because we finished 7th, so by finishing 5th(if we do) do we have to do the same or is it the teams that qualify through the FA and Carling cups?

Ta {Ed002's Note - It should pan out like this by my reckoning:

Fulham: First Qualifying Round
Birmingham: Third Qualifying Round
Liverpool (if fifth): Play Off Round (after third qualifying round)
Stoke (assuming Manchester City are in Champions League): Play Off Round (after third qualifying round)}

{Ed002's Note - Actually I was kidding. The place goes to the highest placed team in the fair play league not already in Europe. At present it is Fulham and looks like remaining that way. Next, interesting, is Spurs.}

{Ed002's Note I will answer what I can Fester. There is nothing concrete about current Lavezzi to Liverpool rumours. However there may be a chance, but keep in mind that Liverpool's interest in Lavezzi pre-dates the January window. He has an agent in Frederic Guerra who does a really good job of talking up his players without being pushy; and a fabulous technique where he denies interest in his players from major clubs thereby attracting attention to them. It is also possible that he will stay at Napoli who will almost certainly have Champions League football next season. The Moussa Sissoko rumour is good though.

Valencia may be preparing for life after Mata but it is unlikely that he is Liverpool bound. Although there is no known interest at the moment, it would not be entirely out of the question that the club could move for the player it remains very unlikely. Piatta is a more likely target for Liverpool.

My opinions on Charlie Adam are well known.

For centre back, as I have previously said there is serious interest from Liverpool in Sakho and he can cover at left back if required. He fits the bill for me far more that Cahill, Richards and the like.}

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

thanks for the reply, i hope there is some legs in the lavezzi thing but i'll try not to get too excited in that case.

i can't recall ever seeing sakho play so can't really comment but i'll take your word that he's upto scratch, sounds versitile so should be usefull eitherway if he can cover the left, who's he in the same mould as?

i'll keep my fingers crossed over mata though as we are due a marquee signing (apparently) and he would fit the bill.

cheers fester

{Ed002's Note - I am no good at comparing players but Sakho is strong and versatile and I think a good addition. I am not sure how everyone has come to a comclusion that there will be a "marquee signing" - perhaps that will be Sissoko.}

Controversial. I'm gonna go :

Reina
P Neal. Hansen. Hughes. G Byrne.
Gerrard. Souness. McDermott. Barnes.
Dalglish. Rush.

Wasn't sure with wide right, but I felt Stevie had to play.
Who'd be yr manager ?

Hi Eds,

Just wondering what the script for the Europa Cup is.

Last year we had to start in the 1st or 2nd qualifying rounds really early because we finished 7th, so by finishing 5th(if we do) do we have to do the same or is it the teams that qualify through the FA and Carling cups?

Ta {Ed002's Note - It should pan out like this by my reckoning:

Fulham: First Qualifying Round
Birmingham: Third Qualifying Round
Liverpool (if fifth): Play Off Round (after third qualifying round)
Stoke (assuming Manchester City are in Champions League): Play Off Round (after third qualifying round)}

Ed what is your Lfc dream team please put t down and thanks {Ed001's Note - Ray Clemence, Rob Jones, Alan Hansen, Emlyn Hughes, Alan Kennedy as my back four, a midfield of Jimmy Case, Graeme Souness, Terry McDermott and John Barnes, with Kenny Dalglish and Robbie Fowler up front. That was hard to do, left back in particular as all are recent ones have not been up to standard! There are so many I feel bad for missing out. What's yours?}

Mine ed is

Neal, Hansen, Hughes, Kennedy
McDermott, Gerrard, Souness, Barnes

Ed what do you say we make Kuyt our first choice penalty taker. Also what do you think of Park Chu Yong of Monaco? {Ed002's Note - Both Kuyt and Gerrard have done well when called upon and I guess it will be left to them to figure it out themselves. Park Chu-Yong would provide an excellent choice as a squad player.}

From what I saw in yesterday's game:

BARTON - didn't do anything to demonstarte that we need him at LFC - Newcastle had so many set pieces that he delivered. Half of them were very poor (overhit often) and some couldnt even make it past the one man wall of Merieles. Showed no "bite" in midfield and posed absolutely no real threat in general play, even up against Flanno in the second half.

ENRIQUE - I thought he played some decent passes in attack, linking up with the Argie fella, but defensively he was not good enough. I think GJ does a better job, and Aurellio definitely does. We should look elsewhere for our new LB in my opinion.

Great game by the boys - I think we can beat Spuds to fifth, but no easy games left - it will be a very interesting run in.

Personally, I would be happy with the team we have at the moment. Under KK we have beaten the big teams and shown a run of form worthy of champions. I'm not saying we shouldn't buy more players. .just that the team doesn't need too much tinkering or to be upset with new megastars with egos. 4 or 5 players to back up the positions we have now and who won't make the crowd groan when they are brought on from the bench.
Anyone who is suggesting Stevie G should be sold while his value is still high should hang their heads in shame. Torres took a slating for choosing a bank cheque over club loyalty and you are asking LFC to make the same choice about Gerrard. He may not be the player he was but he deserves loyalty from the club and supporters after all he has done instead of looking at his monetary value unless you think LFC is purely a business (in which case why complain about El Sulko)? He should always be offered a role at Liverpool whether its first team, subs bench or ambassador - it's one of the things that makes LFC different to other clubs.

What do you think ED {Ed001's Note - I am not convinced, but it is hard to tell right now. But it seems that the January targets are no longer the ones we intend to aim for this summer. What I have been told is that Premier League players, such as Adam, were targeted in January as a short term fix, players that wouldn't need much time to settle in to the country. But, now we are no longer a team in disarray and players coming in will have a pre-season to bed in with the team, we are looking abroad for longer term solutions to the needs of the team. Hence the likelihood of it being Sissoko who arrives for central midfield rather than Adam, which is backed up by Adam making recent preparations to move area.}

I know the Channel 5 cup is a poison chalice but think about this:

1) 30m in T.V Revenues

2) A great chance of winning something

3) The youth can gain lots of experience from it

Those factors alone should say how good it would be for us; plus the morale boost of going from 19th - > 5th in 6 months.

For me, Suarez is the nearest thing I've seen to Keegan in a red shirt. He's got that " go and drop hand grenades son " impact.
Anyone else think that ?

I got a rumour for everyone, made up by me.jack wilshere to liverpool for 20 million.what an investment, we did it with carroll y nt him?he is class, pure premiership quality, style n class.only a baby n what a signing he would be.not only about champ league, we r a much bigger club goin places.oh ye suarez, best sighnin of the season. jonny m

If your gonna start a rumor, at least make it realistic. 20 million wouldn't get you Wilshere. Try 40-50 million then Arsenal may start talking.

Looks like Sissoko may be on the cards if we are looking ag a central midfielder. He's berh similar to Wilshere, slighty bigger and stronger.
