When do lfc have to give a answer on the stadium.  thanks for all your work ed good job {Ed001's Note - there is no definite date to give an answer. There is no time frame to adhere to, it is just a case of getting on with it as quickly as possible because we need the capacity.}

Thanks for a good answer. I think we need a new stadium. love it at anfield was there for the Bolton game. I no that mufc have 75,000 so I think we need at lest 70,000 if we leave anfield, but then again wot do I no. In kenny we trust. YNWA

Long post but makes sense as to why our squad is thin..
Barcelona are renowned for pass and move football and that being the philosaphy throughout the youth system and reserve squad. Who bought through the likes of messi, fabregas, pique and goal keepers reina and valdes? Rodolfo borello. Where is rodolfo borello now after kenny dalglish's appointment? In charge of our reserve squad. Think about guys and girls, we under kk play pass and move football so our reserve squad is playing exactly the same style so if and when we require a player through injury and suspension they are accustomed to our style of football. Kk has saved the club thousands on wages from players who dont suit that style/stroke players who dont want to play for our great club. With the likes of coates, wilson, spearing, shelvey and coady all playing our football it is a master stroke! Kk is and will bring the club foward like barca. Anyone remember pep saying the only team that will rival barca for there youth policy is liverpool?
Ed any thoughts on the post? {Ed001's Note - I do have a few reservations, Rodolfo plays the Barca system but Kenny doesn't use quite the same tactical formation. While the differences are slight, there are still differences.}

Why has he left barca in the first place, does anyone know?

Rafa recruited him and we offered pay better.

So it was really Rafas masterstroke that did not have time to pay off for him?

Rafa will be remembered.

I know Rafa lost the plot at the end and was too busy with the infighting going on at the club when the Cowboys were in charge, but I honestly think his overhaul of the youth set up and academy will pay big dividends over the next 5 years. Whilst I understand that there was uproar at the time, I believe his changes has given us one of the strongest youth set ups is Europe and will save the club millions in fees if we can get 3 or 4 from the current crop to be first team regulars. There is a good chance of it with the likes of Suso, Stirling and Coady all starting to mature in addition to what we have already seen from the likes of Flanno & Kelly.

Most likey to feature in the liverpool squad in 2-3years: in no order
coady
suso
morgan
sterling
flano
robinson
silva
jonjo
adorjan
Villyan Bijev
nacho

pos
sama
Michael Ngoo
mendy
Jakub Sokolik
regan
baio
moli

and wow didn't know that moli was only 15!

No he left because Guardiola got promoted to manager the Barca team when Borrello believed it should have been his. This was seen as a major snub by Barca as Guardiolas image playing a major role in Brand Barca or so the story goes.

Juan Mata, Scott Dann and Gonzalo Higuain will be Liverpool players before September 1st

Now i'll probably get a load of stick for this but trust me The deals will happen. Not entirely sure on figures but I beleive they will in total be £55 Million+

Remember the name;

Dab Bog

I particularly liked this 'rumour' and kept it to see if Dab Bog knew what he was talking about.

Of course he knew **** all.

Care to respond Dab Bog?

But you did remember his name mate, which is what he asked for.

First time poster, and i dont expect this to be posted, I just wanted to express my gratitude to all the Eds for helping make this silly season pass by more quickly. These posts have made this off season bearable while awaiting the real season to begin. Again, thanks for your time and efforts, and here's to a new (and successful) season {Ed001's Note - I am just looking forward to not spending every post-match wading through whines after yet another poor Roy-inspired performance.}

Eds, Hi I posted this comment yesterday but it did not make it..Has anyone noticed that no one is wearing the famous number 10 shirt now that JC has gone to Lille? Since it did not go to Bellamy, do you think it is being reserved for someone in the January window?..(my dream is that it will be for Hazard...and I think we will go for it if Lille are out of the Champions League by then)..Bookmark this post until then :-)
KBT

I have it on good authority that Aguero's favourite number is 69 (please don't ask how)...i notice that no one in our squad is wearing that number...aguero must be joining in jan!

I think the only thing about Mireles leaving was the timing. Me thinks that this has been lined up for 5-7 days. We've all been talking about Raul all summer and why he should stay and why he should go. The only thing that supprised me, was he didn't leave earlier in the window.

Us not giving Raul the pay rise he deserved, should have give it away really.

Blair Mayne YNWA

Ps. How good is Downing playing, he's grown a lot as a player.

Raul stuck to his guns after what previous ownership promised him. New owners wanting younger talent thought differently.

I also think he was not going to get much starting first team action under Kenny.

Boas will give him starting berth in a midfield that has lacked creativity. He and Mata may alter that, but will take time to bed in.

For me, I liked him. He was a little lightweight but he had a knack of being in right place at the right time and taking his chances. However, he is gone and we got very good money for unhappy player.

here is a link for people interested in what the redeveloped Anfield looks like

www.sports-stadia.co.uk/#1145008/Redeveloped-Anfield

Hey Ed, should Liverpool re-develop Anfield than do you have any idea what the capacity will be?
Personally I like the look of H&G stadium plans above all others should we move. Unique stadium for a Unique club. Just hope either way our capacity can rival United's maybe 70,000 seater {Ed002's Note - I understand from what teh owners said it will not be more than 60k.}

With Meireles now gone hopefully Shelvey will get more minutes on the pitch. I think he's gonna turn out to be a fantastic player in a year or two!

Andy Carroll?

How can u miss Carroll ? Good team yes but feel that Aqua and Merles there then its Rock

Carroll can play in Defense or even be a goalie!

Read the post, apart from doni/reina/carrol, those 3 players can pnly play in one posistiob,i.e. doni and reina in goal and carrol as a striker, simples. quite simply the moral of the story is what a fantastically flexible squad we now have!!!

You forgot gk for Suarez

Reina could play in midfield no bother at all

You forgot gk for Suarez

lol true, made a wonderful save in world cup didnt he?

A. I don`t care
B. I hope no LFC players are on the pitch
C. If they are, I hope they don`t get injured.

Watching england and we have to get Cahill to replace carragher he s mustard

No need for Cahill, we've got Coa'tes. This kid is a real talent and only cost 7 mill? This could be the best bit of buisness by any European club, during this window.

Blair Mayne YNWA

Cahill will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement in Jan so yeah I'd take him, great business if you ask me.

To have a pick from of Cahill, Coates, Agger, Skrtle and Carragher would be
excellent, plus he'd be free and English ( fair play rules remember).

If we nab Cahill in the summer and manage to get one of Adam Johnson or Ibrahim Affelay in January (or hopefully both by summer you never know if we bought one in jan and a second in the summer). I'd be very happy with how the squad was taking shape.

Carra has been giving away cheap free kicks and at times penalties. No doubt he has done us well in the past but let's not get sentimental and stick with him at the heart of our defence for 90min. It's time to get Cahill in January. We may have Agger,Skrtel and now Coates but we may need a bigger squad in time to come. Future is looking bright.

Looks like everyone got it wrong about Brad Jones being released... He has been named in LFC's 25 man squad for the season! {Ed001's Note - no one got it wrong, he initially asked to be released to spend time with his sick son. The club are willing to let him go to be nearer his son but it never worked out, that is all.}

For everyone who thinks were lightweight anywhere in the team-

1. Jones (GK)
2. Johnson (RWB/LWB)
3. Enrique (LWB)
5. Agger (CB)
6. Aurelio (LB/LM)
7. Suarez (AM/ST/Wing)
8. Gerrard (Anywhere)
9. Carroll (ST)
11. Maxi (AM/Wing)
14. Henderson (CM/RM)
16. Coates (CB)
18. Kuyt (ST/Wing)
19. Downing (Wing)
20. Spearing (DM)
21. Lucas (CM)
22. D Wilson (CB/LB)
23. Carragher (CB/RB)
25. Reina (GK)
26. Adam (CM/AM)
30. Suso (CM/RM/LM)
31. Sterling (Wing/ST)
32. Doni (GK)
33. Shelvey (CM/AM)
34. Kelly (CB/RB)
35. Coady (DM)
37. Skrtel (CB)
38. Flanagan (CB/RB)
39. Bellamy (ST/Wing/AM)
41. Hansen (GK)
47. Wisdom (CB)
49. Robinson (LB)

So,
5 who can play RB
8 CB
5 LB
4 GK
9 RM
9 LM
9 CM
5 ST

Now, get over who we could have bought, shouldnt have sold, we have a good squad.

Hello Ed(s) posted something the other day that didn't seem to come up. Was just wondering exactly how much we spend in the summer on players and terminating contracts and how much we received?

Thanks {Ed001's Note - I honestly have no idea mate, nor will anyone for sure until the accounts are published and we can see exactly how much we paid out to get players off the books.}

02 Sep 2011 18:18:00
Does anyone else think Maxi should be used more as a striker than a winger? Because his skills with the ball are average at best. But when he is allowed to get more forward he has good poaching abilities. If you think about the majority of his goals at the end of last season and his goal against Exeter, they were mostly a result of being in the right place at the right time. I think he knows how to place himself well. Let me know your thoughts.

LIV3RBIRD

Being in the right place at the right time is a very underrated talent. Towards the end of last season and the beginning of this one the players are free to roam and pop up where ever they like. Which seems to bring the best out of Maxi and i'm sure Stevie will relish the freedom as well, at times under Rafa he looked restricted almost harnessed.

Right back to the Houllier days the players have sort of had a fixed position meaning the strikers stay upfront the wingers stay out wide, which was fine but the free flowing football under Roy Evans and now the King is far more entertaining to watch, plus so far seems to be successful. Suarez is a perfect example of how effective movement can be, last season i remember watching Hangeland try to mark him at time and at times he had been dragged up to the halfway line and just looked lost.

always a red

I dont agree really because i think he was there to snatch those goals by running from deep and his opportunities were also created by the runs of the strikers in front of him, taking defenders with them,

Has marco bueno played a match yet for the u18 or reserves yet if so how did he do?

02 Sep 2011 17:10:43
Anyone watch U21s last night? Flanagan was an absolute beast! Reading the game brilliantly, looked solid and confident. Henderson was excellent, a couple of nice passes and a superb goal. Shelvey too had a great little cameo at the end, played about 5 pinpoint long balls in the 10 minutes he had. Hope to see him given more chances now Meireles has left

I have question to the Eds or anyone who knows the answer.

Coates is currently 20 but turns 21 this year (in September or October or something like that), so will he have to counted in the 25-man squad or not, for this season.

Jolly Red {Ed002's Note - No.}

The cut off birthdate for the entire 2011/12 season is 01 January 1990 so Coates , Henderson , Kelly , Flanagan , Shelvey , Robinson , cannot be named .

We have only 19 players that can be named in our 25 man squad , but with youngsters like these , no worries .

Cheers for clearing that up.

Meireles was tapped up. Yes, he wanted to go and chelsea held interest but today it appears he was indeed forced to put in a transfer request but from Chelsea. {Ed002's Note - He was not "tapped up". Liverpool had given him permission to talk to other clubs weeks earlier.}

Firstly i want to say a huge thanks to all the Eds and Macca! I for one have asked so many questions and everytime i got a perfect answer! These people don't get enough credit!
Secondly, i want to say how pleased i am with the signings we made over the summer!
Doni-great backup to Pepe (Although reina never misses a match anyways but if he got injured then Doni would be great)!
Enrique- I wasn't sure about him but he's perfect! He's a lot quicker than people think and his partnership with Downing is growing all the time
Coates - From what i've heard, a cracking youngster who will become a fantastic centre back. Already named the young player of the Copa America which shows how great his potential actually is! Hopefully this will also keep Suarez happy aswell with them both being uruguayans!
Downing - For me, the signing of the summer. He loves to play, can cross a ball expertly....makes things happen. Doesn't get enough credit! Especially from the likes of Capello!
Adam - loved him at blackpool, love him even more in the red shirt. He admits he's not at the best fitness he'd hope to be but his left foot is arguably one of the best in the premier league. Can spot a pass from a mile off! will be great to provide them cutting edge passes to Suarez and carroll (who people need to lay off)
Henderson - gets way too much stick! the goal he scored against Bolton was class and he scored for the U21 last night! He will make the doubters eat their words just like Lucas did!
Bellamy - His pace will be fantastic towards the end of the matches and i can see him and suarez gelling together!
All i all i'm a very happy kopite!
Lets all support out beloved team!

thanks Eds again!

Totally agree mate. well said.

Sad to See Raul go in the Last day. Few young player with the team from last year they may step up to take the Raul place. I think Jonjo is the one. May be Suso and Raheem will get few game this year.

How reliable is tribal football website? They are reporting good old Jose to PSG next summer with a blank check for purchases. Don't think PSG job has enough glamour for him, but he has been like a wag shopping when it comes to player purchases. There could be some truth to it, atleast on PSG part. Question then, would it be wise to make our shopping for next year during January's window? As much as I want another winger, think we need another Suarez type player more, one he can't do it all every game, second, if he keeps up his form, madrid, barca, or even PSG will throw crazy money at him to leave. Thoughts? Targets?

Suarez is not for sale!!

I have no idea what you're going on about - totally incomprehensable post. May have well been in mandarin chinese for all the sense it made.

Hi Editors and all,

Thanks Eds for your very hard work, also people who kept me reading for new rumours.

What a clear out, £30 mil of the wage bill with some very exciting players in, well done to the board, manager and the deep pockets of our fine owners.

I assume with Miereles exit we will see more of Spearing, close of last season he was awesome.

I see in Jan more youth investment, we are building for the future and have a very strong squad of 1st team players, can't think of any areas except right wing that need enforcing.

So right wing candidates: A. Johnson hmmm I wish, Affellay, possible I guess but should have come earlier! Navas, he won't leave home still! I think except Johnson we will look elsewhere and so the new names will come...

Thank you and opinions welcome, Eds thanks again.

Hope you don't mind the copy and paste, in memory of the great man:

Taken from Bill Shanklys autobiography...it sums the man up:

Above all, I would like to be remembered as a man who was selfless,
who strove and worried so that others could share the glory,
and who built up a family of people who could hold their heads up high and say

'We're Liverpool'.

May 2012

1) Man City
2) Man Utd
3) Chelsea
4) Arsenal
5) Tottenham

It is really difficult to decide between Man Utd or Man City. Man City have such a strong squad, I therefore expect them to win.

Wenger will sort out Arsenal.
Harry is shrewd.

Liverpool will fade and be a disappointment.
John Henry said it himself, "Liverpool are years behind Utd."

This is a realistic assessment without fan emotion.

If you want to understand my position, watch Barcelona.

Liverpool will finish 6th or 7th. After a promissing start

-----------------------------------------------------

John Henry was talking about commercial revenue when he made the statement about manu, not on the pitch. I love anonymous keyboard warriors that take quotes out of context.

I watched the manu v. arse match & arsenal quit. How you think Wenger will turn that around, I have no idea.

Harry will do to the spuds the same he has done to all the other clubs he has "managed"; drag them down.

LFC 1st thats a little optomistic but we will definately be in the top 4

If Lfc were to sell the naming rights to the new stadium ( i they build one) , Shankly would turn in his grave.

Gotta move with the times son!

Shankly is probably turning in his grave already at the ridiculous amounts of money in the game today and the greed of all those involved!

Although i agree with you about shanks i think us fans need to understand that the owners are business men so if selling the naming rights for a new stadium brings in £150m-£200m then there going to go for it and if this helps us get a new 70,000-80,000 stadium then we need to accept it and move on and stop living in the past, yes our great club has an immense history but lets start looking to the future.

We should call it The Shankly Anfield

Its amazing what a few days do. Time is a great healer and Merelies did get a lot of praise with Luis for turning the Arsenal game. But the hard work was done of wearing Arsenal down, they reaped the rewards, praise and accolade's and rightly so. I always try to look for the positive in Liverpool players because to many posters look for the negatives and although i was initially gutted about him moving. I think it was the timing of it more then anything else that pissed me off more then anything else, in the cold light of day i'm over it and my Utd mate laughed when i told him last night and said already, thats quick for you ha ha . Ed009,i do agree that Jones and Smalling are quality players but and could be Englands centre halves for years, but watch out for the lad young Dawson who played for the under 21's last night. I've not seen a centre half throw himself at the ball like that last night with total disreguad for his own safety since Steve Walsh the former Leister City (my spelling is terrible sorry)skipper, also made the other centre back look very ordinary when bringing the ball out of defence. I know the opposition wasn't great but he was mighty impressive. Dont know if anyone could've stopped him at any level for the first header, also amazing that that was his first app at any level for England and i foot know how many other players have scored with their first touch ever for their country either. Think he'll be pushing the Spam brothers hard in a couple of years. Also,we all know that Martin Kelly's default position is widely known as centre half, but he's 2 dynamic and powerful going forward when playing at full back and is great at defending at the far stick as he showed against Arsenal when covering the centre halves when the odd cross did come in,he dealt with it,no messing. Also very hard to take on the outside because of his rapid acceleration. I just hope and pray that he can overcome his injury woes once he's fit again for good. It'll be a real shame if he turns out he never realise's his full potential because of being injury prone, really hope its sorted soon as. I truly belive he could be our's and Englands right back for years to come because you dont see many full backs as tall as him, never mind one who can take off like road runner and it will be an a pure travesty on Martin's,England's and Liverpools part if this problem isn't sorted. Jonson6

The future England Right-Back will certainly be one of Kelly, Walker or Richards. I think it will end up being Richards personally, with Kelly as back-up due to being able to fill-in at Centre-Back too. Johnson is not the answer to the Right-Back position. Great going forward, but can be horrendous at defending.

Uncle Malcolm.

To all Liverpool fans everywhere, I gather today would have been Bill Shankly's birthday, football supporters all over the world remember him fondly and especially us Celtic supporters, story goes when Celtic won European Cup in 1967, the first person in the dressing romm was Shank's and he said to the equally great late Jock Stein "John you are Immortal"
no hint of jealousy just one football great to another.
YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE. hail hail Timalloy

I concur, on both men. Another little tale. After Liverpool & Celtic had met in a battle royale of the 2nd leg of European Cup Winners Cup semi in 1966 at Anfield, both managers were in the now empty stadium. It was littered with empty bottles left by the Celtic fans. Shanks said "Do you want your share of the gate money Jock or shall we just return the empties" !
The Real KB

Fair play to you Timalloy! it's a great shame that we we're robbed of a European cup final place in 65! but both Shank's and Jock Stein are immortal to both our set's of fan's anyway! YNWA goodshout in it! Alphared

HE MADE THE PEOPLE HAPPY!

We are now safe in the knowledge that our new owners and management team together with a talented and fully committed squad fully intend to make us happy again.

I firmly believe we are on a 3-4 year journey that will put us back on our perch,we will be European champions again and by God will that make the people happy again.

Rest in peace Shanks the institution that you created is back in business, normal service has been resumed.

If anyone can bring us back to the top its the king, shanks would be very happy with whats going on at L.F.C., kingkennykop7

Just thought we could spare a congrats to Danny Wilson for being the last Hodgeson signing to stick it out....What a balanced team we finally have, can't wait for the new 2011/12 squad pic!
And thanks very much to the Eds and Macca for amazing transfer window coverage, I've been an addicted member of this sight since the 2005/06 season when Simao and Raul Gonzales were the "100'% on to sign" rumoured players to join... Can safely say this has been the most fulfiling window since the Torres, Babbel and Benayoun window and by far the best as a collective effort by our posters. Feels like everytime we signed a player we scored as a rumour team...
Until the next window, cheerz YNWA

Well what a transfer window that was, couldn't have asked for any better really. Still cant believe all of the unwanted player managed to get moved on, i think in particular a big thanks should go to Evian for taking Poulsen off the wage bill. A little surprised to see Meireles stay in England he is a good player but lacks the grit and i guess to a certain extent nasty streak to play in England, Gerrard being a perfect example lots of quality but will never hide away from a tackle. As much as the players that left have had a lot of grieve from fans i'd wish them all the best. For me the way to look at it, imagine if Kenny Dalglish rang you up next week and asked if you were free to play against Stoke, would you say no thanks i'm not good enough or would you jump at the chance.

Now on players in delighted to see Craig Bellamy back, i personally rate him highly, he adds some extra pace to our squad which has been lacking for a while now. It seems Liverpool now have a quality squad of players capable of competing with any team in the league.

Good times ahead.

Finally all over! Firstly Meireles, okay I thought he was good, but if a player hands in a transfer request, let him go, look at Modric, hes been poor for Spurs so far cos he dont wanna be there! Secondly, Bellamy will be a good signing, think back everytime we were struggling and brought on Ngog, itl now be Bellamy and to me thats an improvement.

Finally, Joe Cole left leaving the coveted number 10 available.... any big money signings in January, Hazard, Higuian... Aguero? Sorrry eds...

Peace. {Ed001's Note - I doubt that a number being empty means anything other than that there is a number not being used.}

The disagrees are because alonso will be older at the end of this seqson and the owners will not bring in him as he old and there are other good players out there

Hi Eds, and everyone else, it's been a very entertaining summer on here, and I am pleased with our new acquisitions. Some of you are still complaining a lot about certain deals and it puts me in mind of the summer of 1977.

We had just won the European Cup and we were on a real high, but Kevin Keegan was leaving us and that felt like a bit of a kick in the teeth. I was 13, and Keegan was my hero...

I was playing football in the park when I heard the news that we were signing some Scottish bloke called Dalglish. We were paying a club record £440,000 for him. I have to tell you I was absolultely disgusted!! I'd only seen Kenny playing in the Home Internationals for Scotland, and I remembered him scoring through Ray Clemence's legs. I thought he was nothing more than a 'goal hanger' - well I don't need to tell you how wrong I was!

We'd only signed the best player to ever wear a Liverpool shirt. He made Keegan look ordinary.

Now of course, before you all start, I'm not suggesting that our recent signings are going to be as good as Kenny (Suarez is looking a bit tasty though eh?), but my point is that you can judge people too quickly, and I even complained about Kenny' arrival. Players can look different in a Liverpool shirt and playing the Liverpool way.

And I would also say that Kenny has a system that he wants to play in, and he knows the type of player he wants in the positions he wants to fill. I dare say that he's had some disappointments with players he would have liked to sign, but trust him and he's going to deliver a very exciting season - and beyond.

The owners, Kenny and even DC have over delivered against our expectations already. It's time to start enjoying it.

Brian YNWA

Very very well put! There is not one signing this summer I wasnt critical of. However the system the team spirit has been superb and as I had to admit I was wrong about each player as they bedded in I still didnt give Henderson credit until he showed what the King had saw at Anfield against Bolton. I hated Souness reign and moaned I thought Evans lacked the ability to take the club the final mile I couldnt stand Houlier(esp for his treatment of Fowler) And Rafa seemed like he was his own worst enemy at times, Roy well the less said the better. But now with Kenny in charge its like it was with Shankly and Paisley I HAVE NOTHING TO MOAN ABOUT! I CANT DOUBT THE GAFFER LOVES THE CLUB AND UNDERSTANDS THE CLUB BETTER THAN ANYONE! Now as a fan I can relax and enjoy watching an LFC that feels once again like LFC.

Ed,what's the number of home grown players you need to have in a squad? Also do you think cleverly is better than henderson?personally I think jordans better but fabio clearly rates cleverly more.thanks.

King luis {Ed001's Note - there is no rules relating to a minimum number of home grown players needed. The rules simply state that you may have no more than 17 who are not home grown. I don't see how a comparison between Cleverley and Henderson can be done when they are such different players.}

I thought it was minimum 8 homegrown players ed

Red Ollie {Ed002's Note - No, a maximum of 17 non-home grown. So you could name a squad of 20 with 17 and 3 for example.}

this window was only to replace players tha were getting old or not good enough.
we did not spend all that much money, the reason is that we need cl football to attrack the best in the world and next summer we will.i believe the money is availible but the timing not right.

soto coates
poulsen adam
aqua henderson
cole downing
ngog bellemy
meirelles ?

KK must have trust in shelvey coady spering to cover for meirelles.
if this trend continues we will replace.
aurelio
maxi
kuyt
cara
and we will add 2 more players because we will have many more games to play next year.
and this year the youngsters will get a chance to prove them selves.
i was hoping we would get adam johnson and christian erikson this window, maybe we will get them once we start winning.
LFC FOREVER

Did not spend much money? you must be joking

Net spend of approx £38m on 7 players? which what City spent on 1. We will be spending money in the next few windows on world class players once back in the Champions League.

To the OP: you've listed Adam as Aquilani's replacement. But Aquilani was not here last season so did not need a replacement in the squad. So, in effect, Adam has replaced Meireles

LFC need another Suarez type player in Jan. Dread to think what would happen if he got injured as we haven't managed to score yet without him being on the pitch. Carroll may come good but he will never be able to open up defences the way Suarez does. Bellamy is more likely to do so than Carroll.
On another note really sick of ppl going on about Meireles leaving and even giving him credit for the goals against Arsenal forgetting that Suarez came on too and he was the one that made the difference. If Meireles had come on alone he wouldn't have made an impact....it was Suarez. Hence why we really need to get another 'impact' player like him!
Not a rumour but please post in rumours Ed's.

PB

We already have another 2 mate a fit stevie G is a massive impact player and craig bellamy with his pace is unplayable at times, we will be fine we have enough pace and guile now and steel to match it good times ahead.
REDhunty

The "not being able to score without Suarez" stat shouldn't be taken at face value. When he joined last season he played practically every game. This season he didn't play for 70 minutes against Arsenal, who played very defensively and with Vermaelen having a stormer. He is only taken off towards the end of games we are winning. So not having scored without him does not mean we can not function without him. There are a number of options for line ups if Suarez is injured, my favourite of which is the attacking 4-2-3-1:

Reina
Johnson--Carra--Agger--Enrique
Lucas--Adam
Bellamy--Gerrard--Downing
Carroll

Is anyone else wondering how smalling got in the England team over Kelly..

Maybe because hes injured

Kelly is injured - hamstring

Kelly's injured

Not at all, Smalling is a very good defender. {Ed009's Note - A fantastic player. The one reason I am happy about Jones to United is that they have potentially the two finest centre backs England has seen for a long time. They will gel at club level and that will help no end at International level too.}

Kelly's injured mate.

Blair Mayne YNWA

I expect Smalling & Jones will be the England & United CB pairing for many years. I can see Micah Richards replacing Johnson at RB for the Euros and being the long-term England RB. Kelly will always be a England squad member because of his versatility, but I think Richards is a better RB.

Who will be future LB? Gibbs is far too injury prone, is there anyone else coming through? {Ed009's Note - I imagine Baines will fill that spot for the next five years. By then, Robinson could well be ready.}

I think Baines may well be the LB to take over from Cole. There are a couple of top quality LB's around the 17 mark. Robinson like you said and Blackett for United is a very good prospect too. He was part of United's FA youth cup winning team.

I would say England are flush with some good future talent in attack & midfield too. Sterling, Welbeck, McEachran, Morrison, Wilshere, Cleverley, Jonjo, Tunnicliffe, Sturridge & Will Keane.

We've heard this all before. One golden generation after another. It's never gonna happen. The players just aren't as good as the media hype them up to be, & the epl is only as good as it is because of the foreign influence.

I have heard a very strong rumour that we enquired to the availability of Adam Johnson on the last day of the window but were scared off when told he was only available at +20m. However i believe talks are ongoing with a view to a January transfer.
My own opinion is by Jan he will be bored of sitting on the bench or playing in the carling cup and push for a transfer. With all the dead wood loaned, sold or contract cancelled, we are in a good position to follow through on this rumour!

Jan Molby isn't wiping away any tears as a result of Liverpool selling Raul Meireles to Chelsea.
The Portugal midfielder moved to Stamford Bridge on deadline day after both clubs had spent quite some time negotiating a deal.
Many supporters were saddened to hear that the popular figure had been sold, especially to Chelsea, but former Reds ace Molby doesn't think he'll be missed.
He said: "I am not too sure what is behind that move, but once he made it clear he wanted to be elsewhere, he was never going to be kept - and Liverpool can certainly do without him.
"He had his moments at Liverpool, but consistency-wise he wasn't quite there for me. I used to watch him, and could never decide what type of midfielder he was. He wasn't a playmaker, wasn't a passer and wasn't a tackler; he fell between a number of stalls for me.
"It will be interesting to see how he does, however. He has experience in the Premier League, which could be to Chelsea's benefit. But Liverpool needn't shed too many tears."

A top class english player will make his debut towards our revival campaign -100% not a rumour! He is a first team starter for the national team and can play rw quite well.. since many of you believe that position is compromised, I'm sure this will be considered a positive addition to what we've seen so far this year. Also, we have signed him from OUR FEEDER CLUB- CHELSEA! His name is Glen Johnson and please no more shiiitee about our stars being cherrypicked by them. Truth is whenever a player skools them, they develop a 'crush' and start to believe that player is the best ever. This is a symptom of their ego, thinking CFC is so good that anyone that shows them up is class. It shows shallow ambition and zero knowledge of what it takes to succeed. That is the Roman way. El nino, raul, and yossi- I loved them as members of our team, but that changed when their values got lost in this ego-mania. We have a wise manager in KD, a savvy talent scout in DC, and owners who support them... not to mention players that want to play for our club, our tradition, and our future. I'm not worried one bit about chelsea getting stronger or any of that nonsense bc they don't have 'it' and eventually they will show that deficiency when on the big stage. Rmbr Terry missing the pk for euro cup? Rmbr what lfc did in Istanbul? Class vs Ass. Simple as that. Forget Raul and look forward my fellow reds. We are thru the storm, and awakening to a beautiful bright future. YNWA azkop

Hi Ed's

I was speaking to a close pal of mine, he was explaining to me how the ownership of Liverpool is being conducted. Is it true that John Henry is the 'front of house' so to speak and we are actually owned by Mexicans? If this is true he was explaining the head guy who actually owns liverpool is in the top 10 richest people in the world.

If you could clear that up for me that would be massively appreciated

Thanks guys

Adzii {Ed001's Note - FSG is made up of a group of American friends who got together to buy into sports franchises. Think of it like a bunch of mates buying a racehorse, because it is along those sort of lines. John Henry is just a front man for a group.}

Carlos slim, richest man in the world is rumoured to own a 10% stake in FSG.

Carlos Slim owns a stake in the New York Times group. Who own 17% of FSG/LFC, but the last i read the New York Times, were looking to sell their stake in FSG.

morning one and all
just thought i would give my opinions on the transfers etc so here goes
firstly Raul put a transfer request in so he goes,no debate he doesnt want to play for us - theres the door mate we are LFC thanks and goodbye.
tra nsfers in this summer have been and will be quality,Downing is looking great,Enrique a bargain if he continues like he has started ,Adam settling in nicely starting to hit those passes all over the pitch and we have started the season well apart from 45 mins against sunderland. The team is starting to gel as players learn each others game and all without Stevie G, fingers crossed could be a very very good season.
would just like to say welcome back to Bellamy, i really like his style of play 100% effort every game, speed and attitude and he excites every time he gets the ball.
the owners have been very clever too, i read 7 players in 24 out spending 112m and recoubing 82m but saving 30m in wages- if this is true they are very clever as the image to us fans is the squad is better and they back the manager however it hasnt actually cost them a penny.now i am not slagging them for not putting mioney in, and nobody else is because they have been very clever and long may it continue.
my final thought of the day is for the great man himself, i am lucky enough to share my birthday with him Bill Shankly if he was still with us i think, would be very proud of what the King has done since is return and once again see that Kenny is trying to build the bastion(spelling) of invincibility once again RIP Bill still in our hearts

Great site Eds, I have read every day for the past 12 months and its getting even better !!

Nice article in Telegraph today by Rory Smith, the numbers are very interesting. In kennys summer of the long knives 19 players have left ( 14 + 5 on loan ). We have £20 million raised from Sales. Only 2 of Hodgsons signings still with us ( Wilson and Jones ).Only 3 out of 14 of RAFAs signings in last 2 years are still with us.

The squad is now trimmed to 22 senior players plus support from youth, with a combined salary of £13million...I found it hard to believe this figure but its certainly a very modest figure compared to the figure we had before. According to the article, we have reduced the wage bill by a STAGGERING £30 MILLION a year !!!....and have a much better squad and work ethic in the team.

Our finances are definitely improving...remember the debt we carried only 2 years ago ?( not surprising when you see the wage bill we had ! )

This is the start of a brand new Liverpool, filled with real quality and experienced players who are passionate about LFC, not just highly paid players in it for the cash. They all want to fight for their places, and anyone who didnt has been moved out in the culling.

This is our blueprint for the future, we are not there yet but Kenny will take us on our new journey , supported by owners who have the 100% backing of all the LFC supporters....they have been magnificent in their handling of the whole situation.

A big THANK YOU to John Henry and all the team who make up our wonderful club....I have never been so happy about our future, we are in safe hands now !!

YNWA
TEl 1949

A little clarification here. The figure quoted of £13 million is not the wage bill for the 22 man senior squad, but as the article states, 'with this summer's six signings, Bellamy apart, earning a combined, and relatively modest, £13 million-a-season in wages.'

I would be very surprised if our squad earned 'only' that much.
Now i don't confess to knowing much as to how contracts/wages/bonuses are structured, but a little bit of simple mathematics here- a weekly wage of £20k per week equates roughly to £1 million a year. So if we ONLY paid the 22 man senior squad, and forgot about youth, and we ONLY paid them £20k per week each, this would equate to roughly £22 million. Now how many of the '22' do you think are earning 'only' £20 k per week?

Ed, marvelous site, read it two or three times a day.

While I don't normally disagree with Mecca, and while I'm sure what he has heard is true re the owners intentions for Anfield, I can't see a redevelopment working.

Two reasons

1. The City council are very keen to regenerate the area, a redevelopment of Anfield would not assist with this the way they had foreseen whereas a New stadium would give more scope and money from European council to boost the area.

2. It doesn't make that much financial since long term. If we boost capacity at Anfield to 60,000 that's it for the next ten to fifteen years. By which time Scum Trafford will be at about 90,000, even Sh**y's ground will be the same size when they extend, and they'll still have oil money to boot.

I'll cry when we leave Anfield but it must ne done. Our owners, while excellent, do not have limitless funds, investing now in a new 60,000 seat stadium and working hard with the council over the next five years on infrastructure to allow it to grow to 80,000+ is the only way to keep our revenue streams competitive.

Sometimes we have to make the hard decisions for the good and future well-being our our great Club.

Don't want to find ourselves with an old ground and so much debt in ten years of trying to keep up that the banks refuse us credit and we are not a viable proposition for investment.
Who does that remind us of?

The current economic climate is in absolutely and utterly no way conducive to providing us with £300m + funds for a new stadium at the moment. That's the bottom line. U*d are lucky that they've got the space to gradually add on to OT and City have the Arab wealth to fall back on. We don't.

re the stadium, even if we did build a new stadium, the anfield turf would always remain. Tour guide was telling us this week that because of so many people having ashes scattered there it is now sacred ground. So prob be marked off as a village green of some sorts. Is this true eds?? {Ed001's Note - I am not sure of the rules regarding consecrated ground or burial sites, but I very much doubt it would be able to be destroyed, it would have to be re-sited somewhere else at the worst.}

how can galatasary bid for Carlton cole with the window closed?

I don't know if this is the case, but different countries/regulatory bodies have different start/end times for their transfer windows. for example, russia's 'january' transfer window extends into february at least. So, if turkey's window closes on, say, the 14th, turkish clubs can sign new players, even from non-turkish clubs, until that date.

Do ya think we need him ?

Because the Turkish transfer window doesnt shut until Monday

Our 25 Main Squad off top of my head. Looks pretty good to me.

While this is likely to be our rough squad, kelly, flanagan, coates, robinson, shelvey and henderson wouldn't actually be named in the squad, as they are all under 21.

I also imagine jones will be named in the squad, even if there are plans for him to leave in the near future, as we do not have any other back up goalkeepers.

I think the under 21 players don't count.
So that's flanagan,Robinson and shelvey

LAVERS

Dint know for sure wether under 21's counted thats great that they dont need to be. Shows what a great squad we will have

Lavers add coates to that list

On the debate about the sale of Meireles, Im firmly on the side of 'oh well, no great loss'.

Jan Molby added his weight (!) to this in the Echo this morning with a great comment which I think sums the player and the sale up perfectly....

JM "I used to watch him, and could never decide what type of midfielder he was. He wasn't a playmaker, wasn't a passer and wasn't a tackler; he fell between a number of stalls for me.

It will be interesting to see how he does, however. He has experience in the Premier League, which could be to Chelsea's benefit. But Liverpool needn't shed too many tears"

That for me sums it up nicely. Would have been good to keep him as a squad player, but nevermind!

Red Gart

Very good point made by big Jan there and I must agree. I have previously said that I felt the only position he played well in last year was just behind the striker without any defensive responsibility. However this is not a system that KK likes to play and he is not suitable as an orthodox central midfielder and he is definitely not a winger. If Chelsea play him behind the striker I am sure he will do well for them and people will be saying we shouldn't have sold him but I agree I don't think he will be missed.

do craig bellamy or chalie adam counts as homegrown or as a foreigner for the 8 homegrown players? {Ed001's Note - Bellamy is homegrown, Adam is not.}

Now the transfer window is closed, the hard work realy begins,KK and SC will need all our backing to encourage the new signings to express themselves, and to gel within the squad, any doubters should be pre-paired to take the wrath of the rest of the posters, who believe this is the turning point in our history,so no more moaning, just sit back and enjoy.Clapham Red

I know news on the stadium will be released later this month so this question may be a bit premature but wondered whether expanding the main stand and anfield rd end would gain us 15,000 extra seats alone? Just thinking if that was achieved without filling in corners then maybe there would be scope to expand further in the future. I wouldn't expect the council would allow anything bigger at the moment in any case as I don't think local road links and current infrastructure would cope with the demand of say an extra 35,000 at present. To be honest just glad we will be staying at Anfield, also Stevie G wouldn't miss the chance to lead the team out at a new stadium. Bet thats a massive weight off his shoulders!

Cheers
Greggers

To add to this - there's absolutely loads of houses & shops all boarded up now. Not only around the ground but right up Walton Breck Rd. Has the Council got a 'planning masterplan' for the area, do you know ed?
It seems to me that if & when LFC decide, the Council will have to get on board to redevelop the entire area cos it has never been more run down that it is now ?
The Real KB {Ed001's Note - the council have always been happy for the club to redevelop and regenerate the area. The problem has been getting all of the houses in the area, some people refused to sell for any price. Now the problem is more about developing road and rail links to cope with the increase in people to the area. But the council are not likely to oppose it, they understand how much Liverpool FC brings to the city through tourism. I read somewhere, not sure how correct the figures are though, that something like 30% of the city's income could be attributed to football. Not just fans going to the games and visiting the stadiums and club shops, but also to the raised profile the city is given around the world.}

Stage 1 Complete.

We have just got rid of loads of deadwood and wages of our team - great work DC and KK, so from now till January the squad will be given the time to gel etc.

In my eyes we are 1 DM, 1 CB, 1 RW missing from a perfect squad , to cover Lucas (DIARRA) , replace CARRA (CAHILL) and a Winger.

I still reckon Maxi will be next to go back to his homeland and a younger replacement found.

I think in January we will take stock of the team/individual performances before pushing on for the CL spot and other players.

We really need to keep some experienced players when we get back in Europe. We may not be able to get every new name we want, due to various circumstances.

Morning ed(s), do u know if stevie g is nearing fitness to push for a few mins against stoke next week?
Cheers

I'm not quite sure why sm ppl r moaning. I think all involved hv done a terrific job this summer. We now have a squad that's much stronger than last year's n we'v managed to move most of the unwanted fringe players on(all signed by benitez n hodgson, btw).

Of cos it would've been nice to hv an abundance of midfielders the way sm Man Utd clubs keep harping on abt hvg 7 strikers, but i'm happy to see the back of players who don't wana stay.

On a side note, I suspect we'v cleared up so much space in the wagebill n squad so that we can bring more ppl in in jan. I suspect Keisuke Honda cld b a real possibility as he wld b on a reasonable price as e russian league wld b over. He'd provide a whole host of options in attack(left, right, centre, support striker etc), not to mention merchandise sales in asia n esp japan.:-)

Anyway, i'm pretty optimistic abt the season ahead. We could really hv a decent season, maybe even push for the title. Who noes?:-)

Anyway, Singapore plays China 2nite in a worldcup qualifer. David vs Goliath. 5mil population vs 1.3 billion. Away at altitude. All the chips stacked against us. But we always hv hope. Go Singapore!
(Singapore is my national team and 2nd team afta the Reds. Haha)

Singapore Red:-)

Yeah China are definitely beatable, but they love to play in Kunming because of its high altitude. And out of our 5 mil population, half are foreigners -.- Thank you PAP ._.

98 years ago today god put a man on earth and that man was the man to build liverpool football club to greatness - bill shankly we salute you - r.i.p!

corkpoolred

Thank you for the reminder corkpoolred. The greatest manager ever in the history of the game in my opinion and the man who laid the foundations at the club. I could spend hours just listening to him talking about football with his gruff Scottish accent, his passion for the game was so infectious. Some of his quotes are legendary - "If Everton were playing in my back garden I would draw the curtains" and "The two greatest teams in Liverpool are Liverpool and Liverpool reserves" Every Liverpool fan should pay their respects to the main man. RIP.

Well said corkpoolred, a true legend in all senses of the word. RIP Bill Shankly

Absolutely gutted we let Merieles, Aquaman, Cole go and missed out on Aguerro, Connor, Jones, Mata and we never went in for Cahill and Dann and Turan.....man what a team that would have been.....Chelcity United we could've been called.....why didnt we buy these players? We could have finished 4th or 5th but nooooooo we have bought premiership proven awesome players that actually want to play for us and damn it...will work their socks off when the going gets tough and wont need gloves and scarves when winter comes...whats worse is we may challenge for the title......tut...how could we? ...;-p will peoole stopgoing on about players that dont want to be with us. This has been the best transfer window for yeeeeears. We look like we can score everytime we go forward and we are now not soo predictable. transfer window is now shut....so all yee fellow supporters lets enjoy the football and Support the team

Speedy

I totally agree, the fact that we've got a squad full of players who want to play for us, no agitators, no dead wood, lot's of youth dying to come through (with a chance to do so), young british core (who aren't going to want to go home in two years time). Great work all round.

I just think there is a great blend of players who feel like a team, scousers, north east lads, spanish, now uryagians (spelling?), I can see Carrol learning from Bellamy, Suarez and Kuyt buzz off each other you can tell, Dalglish has got Adam feeling like he's the best long ball passer in the game, Downing is chuffed to be playing for us, so is Enrique, I bet Spearing and the youngsters are feeling ten feet tall after we've released Cole, Meireles, and Poulson rather than them, Lucas is now the boy (and I'd put money on him being skipper sooner rather than later)

As for Meireles, was good, but come on, he was obviously going to cause trouble and prevent someone like Shelvey, Spearing, Coady, Amoo etc coming through. I know it's only personal conjecture, but the way he celebrated the goals against Arsenal set the alarm bells off for me - it was more of 'how dare you use me as a sub celebration' rather than anything else. Best to get shot of him.

I agree entirely apart from Mata. I think we could have singned him if we wanted and him and Suarez would have been up their with the best in Europe. Fantastic player. Anyway, a fantastic transfer window.

Morning Ed's

The door is now firmly slammed shut until Jan.I for one look forward with optimism,The team have started to show that they are becoming a compact unit, don't get me wrong our biggest challenges lie ahead,Stoke for one but we can now mix it up with either brute force or deftness.

A big thank you has to be said to the owners who funded large quantities of cash for these purchases, I can honestly say that I was a bit dubious about Henderson at first as I had seen him play for Sunderland on numerous occasions, but seeing his goal against Bolton reminded me of the potential he has to become a truly great player. He is young in years and will certainly improve

Iv been getting very frustrated at everyone moaning about transfers, meireles this aquilani that, we needed this position. Dalglish is happy with the team he wanted, not a team we voted for, and personally i think ill trust him over any of you or even me. We have the squad we have and the transfer window is history so get behind the team, and vent your frustration in January. For now the only rumours on here should be stadium plans/ideas or.rumours about the squad for certain games e.t.c, not transfer stuff, because it doesnt matter until january. I for one am happy an will back our STRENGTHENED SQUAD every week.

Hey ed/fellow readers of this awesome site, do you know if the LFC online store has some exchange policy regarding players that were sold? I bought a Meireles jersey(the new away kit) back in May and I feel like returning it and getting a new one. Thanks a lot.

Keith YNWA

I don't think they have. buying a jersey without 'carragher' on the back can always be seen as a risk.

All my Liverool shirts I have bought have no names at the back, and never will. You should understand that players come and go, never the club.

Zoula {Ed001's Note - I only have one shirt with a name on it, and that is purely because the lad gave me it himself. I would never buy one with a name on it, I always have JFT 96 on mine.}

Have you tried a tin of white gloss paint and a black felt pen ?....it worked for me

I always get a carra kit 'he reminds me of baresi the way he palys now' Absolute class
AJW

You can peel the name /number off and send it back to the shop to have another put on- dunno maybe 8,23 or 7 would be nice! Directions on how to baptise your kit can be found in rumour archives from day torres was sold, or on the net someplace. Good luck YNWA azkop

Good transfer activity all summer, Mereiles is no great loss as we don't have a European competition to consider rotating the team too much. I expect that we will see a regular starting eleven for the first time in years. This could herald a return to the old days when a settled team meant almost psychic understanding between the players. The players sold, loaned or released were merely adding to the wage bill without contributing a huge amount to the team. Raul was good last year but in a poor team, I think he may realise that at Liverpool he would have been a squad player whereas at Chelsea he has a good chance of pushing for the first team. This is not an indictment of Chelsea's midfield, merely an observation that with the Champions league and an ageing midfield, opportunities would be greatly enhanced. Looking forward to the rest of the season and who knows, if Adam Johnson gets too many splinters in his arse he may relish the chance to join the new red revolution.

My take on our sumer signings:

Doni

Good to see an experienced backup for Pepe. Havent seen much of him, but hopefully he will be adequated if needed.

Coates

Havent seen a minute of him on the pitch - from what I have read from various pundits etc, sounds exactly like what we needed (am so glad we didn't get Cahill for silly money).

Enrique

Will hold my hand up and say I didn't like the idea of this signing. So far, I am eating my words - he has impressed me a lot - I think he could turn out to be a very good buy indeed.

Hendo

I have liked this signing from the moment it happened - not only one for years to come, but one for now as well. He will be immense for us in my opinion.

Adam

Another one I wasn't thrilled to see us target - again, eating my words - he looks exactly like what our midfield has lacked since Xabi left. I will go as far to say I think he will surpass Alonso for LFC. Some improvement needed on his all-round game, but his vision and passing excite me no end.

Downing

Speed, width, crossing ability - just what we have been crying out for - well, we have it finally. Every tiime he gets the ball, we move forward faster. We will get some good service out of this fella.

Bellamy

I am happy to have him back. Loved when he joined the first time. Love that we have forward and attcking options and cover for injurys. He offers so many options, as well as impact from the bench - about time we had this luxury.

Overall

The skill is there, experience is there, youth is there - but most importantly - pride and passion are there.

Kenny, Comolli and FSG have done us the fans, and the club, proud this summer. I am one very satisfied and happy supporter. I hope you all feel how I feel, because it feels damn good!

7 quality players in, 24 out. Squad looks lean and mean. Been on holiday last 3 weeks in New England (Boston area, USA). The Red Sox are massive here and the owners ( our owners) are hugely admited for respecting tradition and making them a serious team again. Their rivals are the Yankees, it's easy to support them for neutrals, just like Man Utd. Red Sox have proper hard core following like us and fans are knowledgable and respect lful of other teams like us. I think our knew owners understand what we all want and are smart enough to deliver as they've done at Fenway Park. Good times are coming, jus ask anyone from Boston L19 Red ( hurricane survivor!h

Get one thing straight. If we want Cahill in January or next season,we'll get him over you.The only reason any player like Benayoun came to you over Liverpool is because he'll spend more minutes on the pitch at your crumbling club then ours. He'd have been lucky to have made the bench to be honest.Your left back,Santos, good at going forward, cannot defend for sweets.Like rest of the Arsenal players so he wont be out of place with you.Now because you've not signed Hazzard all of a sudden he's not worth it.Get with the programme.I cannot belive how deluded you are on this site. Are the rest of the Arsenal fans like you lot.Considering the Emirates is one of the quietest less atmospheric stadiums in Europe, simply down to the fans,a shambles of a season ahead. One last thing,i'm sure Gary Cahill will remember how much you really wanted him with the most miserly offer of the window bar none. He'll end up at Spuds before your crumbling team of jokers. Utd fans coming on here on a regular is just a complement to how worried they are. If it wasn't for a few dodgy decisions we'd have a 100% record as well but things will even themselves out over a season. And the no name ball bag,Henderson was used as a holding midfielder in the Euro's but was played or took it upon himself to play further up the field today, still dropped deep at times but only because his confidence has is sky high and wanted the ball all the time. What was he ment to play like today anyhow? His mindset? Oh i'll play s**te today,i'm only captaining my country in a Euro qualifier and i better play like as bad as Carrick on his best day incase any Manc turds bring up the ENGLANDS abysmal showing in the Euro U/21's on our banter page. By the way, with a keeper whose legs are made of pasta and wrists made of chocolate, he'll cost you the title min, probably more. Mark my words he'll will cost you some crucial points this season and a cup tie or 2. Every save he's made has been one a standard Prem keeper should make inc Van Perisie's weak pen, whose body was opened up so much and his run that curved,Van Persie would've had to be triple jointed to stick it anywhere else. You've got away with it so far but in 4 games he's fecked up and cost Utd 3 goals and nearly a 4th when Defoe hit the post after flapping at a cross like a red tit, i mean a blue tit. Dont know why some of us have such an inferiority against Utd. Arsenal gave up,plain and simple. They threw the towel in,heartless, gutless call it what you want but they gave up. And after missing a pen still scored 2 and should of had more and they stopped playing. I'm really glad of that freak result because it'll make Utd more complacent then ever, more arrogant and cocky then ever, and that Manc whose complaining about homaphobia. How do you know the poster wasn't dyslecsick like me, or could've been a typo. If you cant stand the heat jam rag, do one back to your own site. Jonson6

you should be over the moon with the capture of bellamy he is a handful, tackles and has an eye for goals.Show respect, support and next year once we are in champs lge again KK will go a notch up on the calibre of players that can be bought in.

You seem like a very angry young man. Don't you have more important things to do than spout lies on a rival's rumours page? Perhaps your homework, or you could pick out the book you want your mum to read you tonight ;)

You can have your Jones and Smalling - they're both just older, overhyped, less talented versions of the great Uruguayan giant we've bought! We sold Meireles because he couldn't get in our team! Says a lot if he's supposedly our best midfielder.

Foolish boy

Martin
--------------------------
Is this the same Phil Jones that was 'The Next Jamie Carragher' and 'The best young Centre back in the world' on this site before he signed for United. The same Chris Smalling that was the only English player at the U-21 Euro Championships to get in the team of the tournament. You do realise that Jones is younger than Coates don't you.

Foolish boy!

G.A.G.U.S

But has Jones won more honour's than Coates? No Bagpus! Alphared

Okay, If I'm honest, I never rated Jones, He is fat, overhyped, and Average. However Smalling is one of the greatest young centre backs on the planet. If Coates is as good as him, which I anticipate he is, we have South American gold dust. Smalling will be England's deputy captain, second only to Jack Wilshere. Part of being a great club, is being graceful in regards to other clubs players. If they are poor let them know, but Smalling is far from that!

Have to say that i'm not bothered in the slightest that raul went. wasn't that good for us anyway and at least we got the money we paid for him back. i've got a good feeling this season will be the foundation of things to come. I have no doubt that our beloved reds are going to get better and better as the season rolls on, Don't know what other people think but i think The scum will be in trouble as soon as they get a few injuries, citey are going to self implode at some point coz not everyone is going to get much game time as they have way to many top players for not that many positions, spuds look alot weaker this season for some reason and Chelski have too many oldies and a striker that could'nt hit a barn door if he was stood 2cm away from it. All in All gonna be a great one for us Redmen..... Great site eds and thanks for all your hard work over the past month and also thanks macca for all your hard work 2........YNWA TrUeReD

All of these people saying that Mereiles is no great loss for us, when we've lost the one cultured player with that bit of creativity in the team.

True, Mereiles didn't like to get stuck in, but he is no midfielder, which is partly why he didn't seem to feature in Kenny's plans - probably a 442. He couldn't play in this formation, just like Aquilani.

As he wasn't in Kenny's main plans, he wasn't offered a better contract which he clearly deserved after a very successful debut season in the Prem. He impressed mid-season playing as that attacking midfielder/support striker, behind Torres when he was there and then behind Suarez, before Andy Carroll was selected in a 442 - costing Raul his place in the team.

There's no doubt we finished the season strongly, but I am really concerned about Carroll's lack of movement and how he slows our game down. It might sound more attacking playing 442 than a 4-4-1-1, but when there's no fluidity and no link between midfield and attack - then it's pointless.

I honestly believe that Kenny had a change of heart in his team selection after Raul's introduction to the Arsenal game. I wouldn't say he was brilliant when he came on, but his style and his positioning - something Henderson could not get to grips with in the first half - meant we were a more fluent team. I actually think Kenny fancied him as a first choice player, until Gerrard was back at least.

Requesting a last minute transfer obviously meant it was hard to keep him, but not impossible. To sell a player for 500k more than we bought him for, after his success last season, is pretty poor! Other teams keep hold of their players when they want to go and we should have made more effort to keep him.

When Gerrard's fit, hopefully Kenny will select him as the support striker. He was sooo good playing behind Torres and his attacking game would be wasted playing in a 442 in my opinion. However, can we keep him fit for the full season when he's back?

I do think Bellamy will do a decent job playing in one of the wider roles - but we've made a big mistake in letting Raul Mereiles leave!

Love the site by the way!

IMO you are way too hung up on formation. The difference between 4-4-2, 4-4-1-1, 4-2-3-1 is minimal and can change during a game based on the situation. Since Kenny has come on (other than the games last year when we played 3 at the back) we play with 2 center midfielders. One of whom is a creative playmaker and one who is more defensive. This will be Adam and Lucas when healthy. The front 4 is extremely fluid. These 4 guys will switch positions and roles during a game and Kenny will select which 4 he thinks best suit the game. The formation will be based on which 4 guys he chooses.
