Didn't watch the match. Sad we didn't win. . Glad we didn't lose.
Also glad we scored 1st. Seems our goals problem is getting resolved.
I hope we can secure CDM and defense next. But all in all. Happy we can score now.

Ron the red

"didnt watch the match"----- "ron the red", ron the die hard didn't watch the match red ha. . . . . . . . . . . . andy.

I don't want to put words in Ron the red's mouth but there are many reasons why someone cannot watch a particular match. You sir, are a fool

Puzzled

Puzzled, I was coaching my sons under 9 footy team on astro from 6 till 7 then popped home and pressed RECORD yes its a new and novel idea YES you can actually RECORD things now clever aren't it ? then went and played 5a side from 8 till 9 then YES your getting it I went home and WATCHED the match like I do EVERY match, how can people like "ron the red" come on here and comment about a game they didn't even bother to watch ? and then there is you agreeing with him nowonder your name is puzzled, puzzled by life me thinks. . . . . . andy.

Andy, I'm not puzzled by life just sad that our educational system churns out people like you

Puzzled

"our" educational system ? does that mean it is something to do with you then ? or are you just another "we" "us" "our" man got to love the labour brigade, I have a decent education and now own my own buiness, and belong to lots of clubs, I manage/coach a footy team and I am socially very active, YOU ? oh yeah you didn't realise you could record a footy game, shame YOUR education system churned you out, like I say must be hard when life is such a puzzle. . . . . . . . andy.

not a bad result we would take a draw before this game. henderson a big positive and good to see enrique back. thought we defended very deep and didn't keep possesion for long enough. the defence is a bit worrying we always look likely to conceded.

Liverpool have tonight matched Chelsea's bid for Butland. It's a buy with immediate loan back.
Up to the player now.

Stoke have bid for Butland tonight. This is interesting as Bergovic wants to go to United, also Chelsea are meant to be sniffing. .

Let's have it right, Arsenal at the back were absolutly shocking and we defended to deep at 2-0. But before the game we would all have taken a draw so we just have to take it on the chin and hope we get something at City.

Just for the record, the people who have slagged Reina off all season, STILL RATHER HAVE JONES IN GOAL WOULD YOU? Henderson was fantastic and Carra ( who should have played a lot more this season, especially at Oldham ) was brilliant. Think before you slag players off who have been class acts for us in the past but maybe have had an iffy 18 months ( not Hendo, more Stavie Pepe Carra. ) As I said last week, FORM IS TEMPORARY CLASS IS PERMANANT BIC**ENDS!!

Waro

Reina made some nice saves but the Walcott goal was soft. He hit it hard but from a bad angle and it was in the middle of the net.

Carra is a legend and one of my all time favourite players but he is not the player he was and should not still be starting on a regular basis

Henderson is better than allen but is he the answer as he should have scored when he hit it over the bar but respect to him for his hard work and attitude

Who is this Waro person? (and yes I typed 'person' it wasn't a substitute for anything else)

Puzzled

Must admit Henderson is turning into a terrific player.

Neilp

A better player

30 Jan 2013 23:22:24
One thing I noticed tonight about our team was that some players were lacking in stamina towards the end.

Adam

We've been like that for a few seasons now. I don't know why exactly, but in general our fitness levels always seem very poor compared to whoever we are playing.

Two players gave their all stevie and louis and worked so hard even the 6million doller man would be tired if he put a shift in like they did my repect goes to them well done and thanks pepe for showing people who you are the number one lfc gk

To be honest, I was afraid that this would happen when sturridge first signed for us.
Taking a player (Suarez) who is the 2nd top scorer in the league out of the position in which he got all these goals and moving him to a position where he isn't ''as much'' of a goal threat and where he must think about defensive duties also is ridiculous!

There is no doubt suarez has the ability to player pretty much anywhere along the front line, and possibly just in behind it, but the fact is that he will get us goals when played through the middle, and will ultimately help us win games.

And yes I know he scored today but anyone who watched it will agree that he didn't look his usual self, altho he did do sum fantastic tracking back. which brings me to my next point.

When he plays as the main striker he gives incredable workrate! its like having an extra midfielder aswell as a centre forword.
He will close down the keeper much more than sturridge did today, he will drop in to help the midfield, and he will run his socks off to and from whichever defender has the ball.

Lets be honest, sturridge may want to play through the middle, but I for one would be a lot more worried about playing suarez in his best position than sturridge in what he considers to be his

Jak

But Suarez scored. .

I think tonight was a bit of a strategic decision by BR to play a more defensive, counter-attacking game rather than 'tippy-tappy' like some on here call it. I've heard many say he doesn't have a Plan B, I would say we saw one tonight.

The whole setup was different than we might normally play (park the bus combined with hoof it to Sturridge and, less so, Suarez). And to top it off, it arguably worked (at least for the first 60 minutes for sure), so as much as I didn't really like the style of the game we played, gaining a point at the Emirates isn't a bad day.

RDL

Should have been played central tonight, sturridge missed a few good chances and suarez seemed a bit lost on the left. He might just take a while to get used to that position and working together with sturridge as they haven't really had the time to forge a partnership yet I hope they do. Dog J

Gods sake. I've just seen that Vermaelen handball again. Like a basketball player.
We were unlucky there.
Did anyone else have trouble with First Row Sports tonight - adverts popping up every two minutes, freezing up ?
I missed half the action.
Still better than £80 odd in Rupert Murdoch's back pocket tho.
The Juicer

I alway have problems with FRS, but as you say better than giving money to the Sun in disguise of the TV. The worse is that I've been recently searching the web tools and now I keep getting Adverts with Wayne Rooney flashing up every where.

Wayne Rooney flashing?

Eds, I notice that my strike rate for published banter
is on par with Andy Carroll Liverpool goals. Is there a reason for this?

30 Jan 2013 23:15:43
Short and sweet. . Well done Hendo, great game!

30 Jan 2013 23:14:24
Bad Ben wherever you may be, you spouted hindsight a trait of me, Before game again I said 2-2, now we see no sight of you

If I knew then what I know now about you, I would never have said what I did. But of course you knew that didn't you?
My mum also said 2-2 and Suarez to score first.(she only told me this after the game though. . )

BigBadBen

Sad Ben- {Ed001's Note - this is not a site for personal abuse and vendettas, either grow up or go elsewhere.}

30 Jan 2013 23:14:14
Until Liverpool find the right mentality and toughness to be able to hold on to a lead they will continue to be mediocre regardless of any players they bring in!

Unacceptable to let go of 2-0 lead away from home against Arsenal. These games are defining when it comes to top 4 and CL and Liverpool is simply not good enough.

I really hope this changes next year.

Haven't won there for 7 seasons.

We won 2-0 two seasons ago

We beat them the other season on a horrible rainy day my wife and I got soaked in their fantastic stadium ynwa

And its Arse-en-al Arse-ne-al fc,
they're by far the greatest team,
the world did ever see. .
Were my ears decieving me,
did the Arsenal fans really sing this?
It was not just the away fans taking the pisz?

I'd just like to tell all Arsenal fans, who have not seen the glimmer of silver for about 10 years,
you're nothings!

30 Jan 2013 22:52:39
What happened to the "ince deal is done. . "

Things change and nothing is set in stone really until the clubs come out and officially announce it. That said, I'd assume Ince looked pretty nailed on for the Eds to believe it was imminent. I'd assume that we didn't want to step up on the fee being asked if anything because we don't value him as highly as Blackpool do.

ChrisMiz {Ed001's Note - I am pretty damn sure I always said nothing was done with him actually.}

We don't need Ince now. He should play as much first team football as possible not play academy games for Liverpool.

31 Jan 2013 00:18:42
Who cares. .

30 Jan 2013 22:48:34
Good point, but could have been 3 great points. When we went 2 nil up I thought a couple of substitutions were needed. Well done lads and with spuds drawing no harm done. Reality Red

30 Jan 2013 22:48:33
Some of the posts in here are just pure stupid . Blaming Sturridge, Reina, the whole of back 4, the manager for shaking his head in a particular way . how ridiculous is that .
To me it was a fantastic game of football from 2 teams that love to play the game as it should, clean and technical, some fantastic individuals and brilliant passing team play.Yes we lost a 2 goal lead, but sometime you just have to step back and admire the quality in the opposition, in the last 30 minutes Arsenal were excellent and scored 2 good goals, their number 14 have a very good shot on him, Podolski was fantastic for them.
Our whole team did well today, the defence was very good; solid for most of the game, and Reina made a couple of special saves.
People in may 2005 when we came back from from 3 down it was n't because Milan were suddenly rubbish, no it was because we turned it on and played brilliantly they could n't cope with us . well Arsenal did it to us today in the last 30 minutes.

Roy

30 Jan 2013 22:46:26
everyone of our lads deserve great praise for the effort they put in tonight

reina 2 world class saves hendo ran his socks off
carra immens

one thing brendan needs to spot when players are tiring

lucas and sturridge both should have come off after 60mins. both were clearly strugglging with the pace of the game

suarez ultimate team player defended brilliantly forastriker

30 Jan 2013 23:11:10
Alright everyone.

Well, kind of disappointed with the result but it's only because we were 2-0 up and the importance of the next game and how many points behind Arsenal/Everton we are. I pretty much agree with what Carragher said after the game. (Who had an outstanding game btw.)

Anyway, the reason I'm posting. Anyone else disappointed with Sturridge today? Kept falling over, seemed to lose the ball a lot, and every time he fell over he stayed down. . look at Suarez when he's pushed over or trips; he's back up chasing before you even notice he fell! Look at Hendo's goal, you'll notice Sturridge sits down and just watches on. . he should be up, chasing for any rebound! (You'll notice Suarez was sprinting up to Hendo's side - for rebounds.) I like his positioning and his previous games he has played well, but I wasn't too impressed with him tonight.

My wish from tonight: I wish Carragher was 25!

Looking forward to see Coutinho.
Thanks, Ell.

30 Jan 2013 23:10:34
Is 2/2 away at the gunners that bad a result ?? Take away the 2/0 up is it really that bad !!! BR learning more and more about are players and so are the young players we are a young small squad only going to get better and bigger, for most ov the game we really looked up for a fight every last player sum thing we did not have in us in are last game !!!!!
YNWA lfc linc

30 Jan 2013 23:08:03
Thought we did alright all things considered but my only criticism is that Sturridge would have buried that late Suarez chance on the rebound. .just get a slight feeling that BR doesn't always believe what his team can do. . Great game from Hendinho, carra and of course seor Suarez. Now lets nick a win off those citeh tossers. . YNWA tobiwan

30 Jan 2013 23:06:06
Haha. the way johnson struggled with walcott's pace, I felt sterling could have come on his pace would have hurt them on the break, we also need a solid defensive midfielder.why rodgers hasn't bought one is really strange. lucas was all over the place, he has really struggled since he got injured
Imo I felt reina should have saved the second goal, there was only one place walcott could put the ball, what was he thinking of?Any Liverpool fan here complaining is a muppet we could have easily lost the game, I was sad they equalized but I would prefer we draw than loose

Most players would struggle with Walcott's pace.

You can call yourself a fan but I don't consider you one.

You can write henderson is not good enough to wear the shirt. You call yourself a fan but I don't consider you one.

You can write BR can't hack it after a draw away to Arsenal and within half a season before he's done anything. Sure you call yourself a fan but I don't consider you one.

You can say new young promising players like Allen, Borini etc. and henderson, lucas previously are crap before they've been given a chance. Sure you can call yourself a fan but I don't consider you one.

You can say the owners should leave and even have death threats sent even though they continue to support us and saved us. Sure you can call yourself a fan but I don't consider you one.

Liverpool fans mean something more to me.The words "You'll never walk alone" is the foundation of this club. We as fans respresent the club as much as the players. We lose this motto and we as a club are finished and it will be because of us. Nobody else.

We finished 8th last season. 8th. Want me to say it again. 8th. We are moving forward because now we a 7th. You might not think it but we have the power to accelerate this transition and make Liverpool a world power again.

We can be a voice that sends shudders to our opponents and spirit to our players and manager.

They do not walk alone because we shout the loudest.

When they are one nil down, they will fight. Because we still have fight left in us.

We are Liverpool fans. We give up on nothing and certainly not our team. Its time to unite. Its time to fight for this fourth spot.

You are not alone FSG, You are not alone BR, you are not alone Liverpool FC. We are here and we support you.

Now come. Man City next. Come on LFC.

Davey Sulls.

Bit too dramatic for me there, Davey.

Zeus Katz

Ha. Reading it this morning I have to agree with you there Zeus.

That's what a few beers does to me. I go all Braveheart on your asses

With Rodgers saying no more signing this window where does it leave the Ince deal

Off I suppose

30 Jan 2013 22:37:14
Thanks to all the Eds for the hard work and patience through this transfer window.

As all our transfer dealings have now been concluded, you guys derserve the day off tomorrow as I am sure Ian ayre and co will also be off home early again.

30 Jan 2013 22:35:51
Am I the only one who thought Downing played alright. . Who's the scapegoat today then. Hendo was brilliant, Gerrard, Carra were both fantastic and Allen didn't play. All the trolls must be fuming. End of the day I'd have been happy with a 2-2 at the start of the match. It was disappointing to let a 2 goal lead slip in such a short space of time however Arsenal could've but a few past us on a different day. All in all there is still room for improvement. When we went ahead we just invited Arsenal onto us. Good to see Enrique back from injury and we have a new signing too. Let's just move on to Man City next week.
derryred

Downing played ok? Definition of a Downing cross, smack the ball as hard as you can so that is passes at least 2 meters above the head of everyone in the box and goes out for a throw. Have you ever seen him make a simple cross across the fact of goal to be clipped in far post?

Can't wait til we sell downing, such a fanny and he doesn't give a toss about the club. ant

The cross that assisted strurridge against Norwich

Are you suffering from Amnesia?

Sturridge tap-in goal against Norwich!. .Who provided the cross?

Hope you won't miss this. .if you actually watch games!

If rodgers is not prepare to play robinson at LB then he should sign a cover for enrique. Wisdom is not ready yet. Great game we had.

30 Jan 2013 22:29:20
Rodgers has said there will be no more signings this window.
A small squad stays small. 2 out and 2 in. Would of liked one more personally. How you feel about it eds?

Thanks kyle {Ed001's Note - a couple each window is fine with me, too many signings can cause disruption.}

With Borini back from injury he'll help the burden on the squad, as will/might Assadi when he's back from the ACON, I think? Not sure what's happening with him tbh.

But obviously a not featuring Joe Cole on massive wagers and an unsettled Sahin who's not here for the long term really wasn't what we want. Sturridge in who's got a point to prove and has got off to a flyer and Coutinho also needs to make a statement and cement himself into the team. Hungry players with points to prove for a decent price with years in left in them. Yep, I think overall we should be really positive about what's happened this January.

30 Jan 2013 22:28:55
"Liverpool are our first choice, " said the agent of Lazio defender Modibo Diakite, although only on a free transfer in June.

The 25-year-old centre-back has only made one Coppa Italia appearance this season due to a contract dispute, as he has refused to sign an extension and turned down several transfer opportunities.

"Liverpool are our first choice for June, " declared agent Ulisse Savini.

"It would be very difficult to say no to a club like that."

Diakite has also been linked with Juventus in recent weeks and will be a free agent at the end of the season.

30 Jan 2013 22:28:03
Rodgers is so tactically naive it's not funny, admittedly he can only work with what he has got but when is he going to realise that to play "tika taka" football you need the players to do so . .as much as it pains me to say our squad is light years away.

Arsenal break, three passes and they have a shot on goal, we break, five passes and we might just be on half way, alternatively, we will only have either Suarez (or Sturridge) up on their own crying out for support but alas our immobile midfield are treading water back on halfway!

Our movement, or lack of it, off the ball is a joke, nine times out of ten the reason we have to pass backwards is because no one has busted a gut to run five metres into clear space, instead they pass the ball (and never one touch) and stand there admiring the fact that they have acheived a pass - poor, extremely poor!

Luis Suarez is not a left winger/midfielder, and is absolutely wasted out there.

The only way to eventually successfully implement a strategy is to stick with it and get the players use to it, as well as adding players to the group.

Plymouth Red.

Suarez who played left wing for ajax and the suarez who scored today and almost set up another for sturridge? Clearly he is wasted there

Mate are you serious? the work suarez did out there tonight was incredible. Tracking back like i'd never seen him do before amd helping to hold up the ball

Agreed, henderson seems to be the only midfielder willing to bust a gut and get up to support the strikers, as well as do his defensive duties.
If others arent going to contribute in this way then the likes of suso, henderson, shelvy etc should be given there chance to do what needs to be done offensively

Luis Suarez has the freedom to play across the front line. He chooses his movement. person you know nothing about the game.

I really wish people would get this tika taka non-sense out of their heads.
I think the only problem our players at times is confidence and to be honest I'm not suprised with all the petty, childish slagging off that they constantly get off their own so-called fans. Most of which I'm convinced aren't actually Liverpool fans.

30 Jan 2013 22:27:26
Eds

With Enrique back from Injury and the signing of Coutinho do you expect Johnon to go to right back and Enrique left back. Wisdom on the bench. He sometimes looks like making a dangerous mistake.

GAM# {Ed001's Note - yes, Enrique just needs easing back, too much for him to play twice in a few days right now. I thought Wisdom did ok, he used his strength to great effect, he just needed more help from Downing in front of him. He could also do with being directed when to press and when to drop, he was dropping when he should have been pressing because he wasn't being told to press. That can only come with experience or from the players playing alongside you covering so you have faith in being able to press the ball.}

Agree with Ed001, Wisdon did ok, I'd say even very well. Johnson is simply best RB in the country and should play that role always. Hate seeing him LB. We should just buy a great LB if this is the problem. But personally, I don't sse the problem with Jose.

30 Jan 2013 22:27:11
So, it appears that Brendan Rodgers has came out and stated that no more players will be joining the club this transfer window. Is he telling the truth or will there be a surprise signing, what do you think Eds?

Joker {Ed001's Note - I think he is saying what he believes. Obviously it could all change in a moment, if a player's agent gets in contact to say X player is available. Or we get a ludicrous bid for someone and we can go and grab a replacement. I doubt either will happen though.}

Ed is the x-player you talk of going to sign by tomorrow night and who is he?
my guess its neymar.

30 Jan 2013 22:27:07
Cant believe some of the posts on here tonite. I thought that performance was gutsy tonite especially after what happened on Sunday. Another defeat could have reallt hit us hard.

Reina I thought was excellent and showed why we need a proper number 2. Carragher had great organisation and was constantly shouting which was great to see. Henderson was also excellent.

I really do think slowly we are getting a strong side together. I believe Rodgers when he says it will take a couple more transfer windows to get the right squad. If we had this squad starting the season we would be higher in the league.

What we need to do is stick together, keep supporting. We can't keep swapping managers. Stability is the key. Rodgers gets LFC understands this club.

30 Jan 2013 22:25:11
Eds can you tell me what has happened with skytel have they had a fallen out, don't get me wrong I'd rather carra in my team anyday as I've stated on here before he is without doubt our best defender {Ed001's Note - no, he is just not playing well so got dropped.}

30 Jan 2013 22:25:06
Why don't you kids understand - tonight we lost our 2 goal lead because of bad defending and sitting too deep when they were on top

30 Jan 2013 22:24:57
Scandal! We played like girls. We couldn't manage to keep the ball, and get calm. Agger is dangerous when we have a corner, but also when our opponent has one. So angry that Walcott gets all that space, and Poldi was not covered Well the entire match. Danieldenmark

Statement, played like girls is unacceptable. Remove immediately. I have two girls and both of them will play for Liverpool.

30 Jan 2013 22:24:26
2-2 at Arsenal is a good result. But, But, But,
we have to start winning games like that one,
at 2-0 up you need to control the game.
we have a lot better talent in the team than
we play as a team and this is Liverpools problem.
We hardly seem to put two passes together at times
and if we do one of them is to Reina.
LFC was built on a simple passing game.
where and when did it all go?

30 Jan 2013 22:21:54
Congrats Jamie see lad with man of the match, well deserved. If we are really trying to contend 4th spot we really do need to play a lot better than we did today. Playing Suarez on the far left really took him out of the game then his usual self. Should put behind Struidge, that is a position where he does excel himself. Bring on City.

FowlerGod.

I think if Skirtle was on the pitch, we would not have conceded the first goal and defended much further up the pitch. WE should have played 3 centre backs, Jose and Johnson in their strongest positions. Hendo, Gerrard and Lucas in midfield. Suarez and Strudege up front, 5-3-1-1. BR has still lots of ropes to climb.

I've said this a few times but I love Dagger and I think we struggle a bit sometimes in defensive mid. I'd rather have Gerrard going forward, because him Suarez and struidge going forward will test any defence. Playing Dagger in D.M with Lucas will help out loads, he's strong, wins headers, can bomb forward, quality left foot, quality tackler. He is an exceptional defensive rock.

FowlerGod.

30 Jan 2013 22:21:53
for all the dim wits saying we should of won its shocking were rubbish and everything else arsenal scored two great goals that simple we were great today showing that steel everyone says we don't have big up jamie see and to the fool how said he doest see wat hendo does I hope you realise now!
look i'm gutted we didn't win but like I said thought we were great could of and maybe should of scored another we should of had a penalty aswell so everyone get behind them for city I said before the game ill take 4 points from these two games and its still there for the taking cheers

mike

Carra was superb. Yet another player that the negs wanted sold earlier in the season (along with Gerrard, Downing, Hendo, Allen).
Keep the faith, keep supporting and we will get the performance AND the results

30 Jan 2013 22:21:34
Really unlucky tonight. carra and henderson outstanding tonight. last 20 seconds suarez should of won it. Sturridge and Suarez should of played upfront together and we would of been double our lead. Heart broken but looking good

GAM#

LMAO what game where you watching, for 70 minutes arsenal mullered Liverpool, they could have been 1 or 2 up in the first half alone with another 4 in the second half.and talk about unlucky lol what about the 2 Liverpool goals.its just that arsenal have a worse defense than Liverpool but the rest of the arsenal team is a level above Liverpool

Level above?! ha! Granted they played well second half, but The only players I would take from arsenal are wilshere, cazorla and Walcott. Otherwise, every other position we are stronger.

Cheers,

Luc YNWA.

30 Jan 2013 22:19:56
Poor tonight, Rodgers tactiks all about possession but yet we can't pass or keep the ball.sitting far to deep, no midfield, Rodgers said we were unlucky not to win the game. Someone needs to tell him we wasent playing in red tonight. 2 lucky goals sloppy defending from arsenal.

But overall happy with a point away at arsenal, just need to play a lot better, a lot better.

P.s loves seeing jamie out there tonight, played awsome, he's a legend!

Big john {Ed001's Note - but we were unlucky not to win, we had chances to do so.}

So did arsenal have chances to do so Ed, more chances than us at that {Ed001's Note - we had the best chances though, we were unlucky not to win, especially when it very much looked like we should have had a pen in the first half, or could is probably a better word.}

30 Jan 2013 22:18:39
Cmon boys get a grip and give the EDs a break. We played Arsenal at their ground, we would have done somersaults for that score before the game. Arsenal know they have missed an opportunity here.

A little disappointing after being two goals up but its a decent point at the Emirates. I thought Carra was superb. We are getting better all the time under Rodgers.

30 Jan 2013 23:01:01
You so called fans depress me on this site. . .for 50mins we were the better team. .getting a point at Arsenal is a decent result, not many teams manage it.
Also I wonder how many of you fans actually know anything about football? Stupid comment like why is Suarez out of position?.answer. he is not, he played wide for Ajax . .Why did Enrique not start? Answer. Just back from injury. BR had only one of his signings playing, he doesn't trust his own signings.answer. Joe Allen needs a rest, Sterling needs a rest, Borini just back from long term injury and Assaidi has been away playing in the ACON.
Last point . .this is a year for rebuilding, get it into your thick skulls, it WON'T happen over night, christ get a grip!. Spoons

Yes we are improving under BR, and he has just bought two attacking players, we scored two goals away, got a valuable point, and there is lots of room for improvement, in all areas, so we can expect more points soon, as our team gels and think we can put in a strong 2nd half to the season .

Formation and tactics too defensive, but somehow managed to go 2 up. Lucas is not fit enough yet, let so many runners through. Suarez as a defensive minded left winger? Really?? At the very least he should play in the hole and let him hassle the defence. Sat way too deep. That Arsenal defence was there for the taking. I think if we were given the penalty for the double handball and Henderson would have made it 3nil rather than 2nil, I couldn't see them scoring.

I thought suarez was excellent. Man of the match for me. He defended superbly and still destroyed them at the other end

I think that we had a decent game plan, hitting them on the counter attack, we could have got a third goal and maybe won the game, most of us would have taken a draw before the game, so am pleased with that big point, and for once Jamie gave us a very good report on tv .
redforever

Suarez was very good defending. He did leave johnson out to dry for the walcott goal bur otherwise good. Maybe if suarez was in the hole we would have kept arsenal back alittle more, I agree with you there.

ri red

Suarez is an exceptional all-rounder. He scores, he defends. . . and did anyone see his couple of Stevie G style long passes played perfectly with outside of the boot? Put the whole debate to bed as to who is the best player in the PL. RVP is talented but our Luis has way more dimensions to his game.

Right. That's a good point. I don't really care what the moaners say. Quite frankly, I'm sick to death of you and I wish to god yee could go off and support Man United.

Carragher looks to have rejuvinated the defence and henderson is becoming a revelation in that attacking midfielder role.

The moaners will no doubt say they had more posession but to be honest we were lethal on the break at times. It was aresenal we were playing. Although yee love to disrespect any team that is not Liverpool, Arsenal are no jokes. This was a good point.

Work to do no doubt but future is still bright in my eyes.

I think we are better at beating the so called bad teams than arsenal and spurs and I think all is to fight for in this season still. We definitely have the best run in of all the teams challenging for fourth. If we can get something against Man City I fancy us to have a real charge.

Once again I'll like to say to the worst Liverpool supporters, Go support Man United.

Again, Go Support Man United.

Again, Go Support Man United.

Again go Support Man united.

You have no idea how much I despise you. You are the worst fans ever but thankfully, you are the minority.

Think said it best when they said the minority have to speak loudest because nodbody listens to them.

Come on BR. Shut this fools up. Liverpool will come like a train in the second half of the season.

Davey Sulls.

Well said Davey.
My plan was to give stick to all the moaners and remind them that football is a funny old game. Personally I think most of the moaners on here are only following Liverpool since 'The Miracle' and don't know what it means to actually SUPPORT your team. So take a bow my man well said.

M

Davey, they we're Lethal on the break, we were playing in black mate, not Red.

Nice one Davey, thank god this site gets infiltrated by true fans or the kneejerk trolls would run amok.

I cannot agree more with this post. Carra was a rock tonight and his presence shored up the defence after such a poor performance at the weekend - and it's a bloody good job he did! Arsenal showed what we already knew - bit dodgy at the back but frightening going forward. I can't believe that people on here are having a go at Henderson, Wisdom and even Downing - he did some good work in defence as well as supporting the attack when he could. Oh, and then there's the persons blaming Pepe for Walcott's goal - my goodness, it was a thunderbolt and right out of the blue!

People slagging off BR, saying how naivehe was tactically - what a crock of it! Brendan showed that he could acknowledge the failings from the weekend and rectified them quite well. Suarez is not a winger or a LWB but he did what he needed for the team - Walcott is a danger man and they had to try and shackle him as best they could.

Basically, give it a break people, and SUPPORT the team and the manager. A point at the Emirates is nothing to be downhearted about. 4 points from these 2 games would be a great return - though I'd be satisfied with 2 points tbh.

Disappointing result after having led 2 nil. Gerrard's not the same Gerrard...90 minutes are becoming too much for Stevie. Also, we have conceded another goal from set piece...again poor cellective defending. We still haven't beaten any of the top ten and with City next, I think that dismal statistic will continue. On a positive note Jordan was my man of the match with Jamie also showing why Skrtel should be dropped. BR has done well to bring the young Coutinho who could become world class but we really need an alternative to Gerrard.

You must be kidding, Gerrard was immense sat in front of the defence, protection for the hole game make crucial interceptions when arsenal would have been through time and time again, without him tonight arsenal would have run wild, led example and got stuck in md did ll the dirty work,

This poster is clueless gerrad along with the rest of the team were brilliant have you ever realised that teams can score great goals witch arsenal did simple as that

mike

Gerrard needs to be given a role at the moment he's neither Arsenal nor Elbow. He's too old for box to box.

30 Jan 2013 22:14:54
For god sake, why are some so called fans expecting instant success, This season is a rebuilding season, we have new players bedding in as well as the manager trying to impliment new ideas, think of all the experience the young players are gaining this season, surely that will bare fruit next season and for many seasons to come, personally I, ll be happy with a mid table finish this season.
We don't have a god given right to beat every team we play so accept the result whatever it is and get behind the team + manager

30 Jan 2013 22:51:22
"Instant success"!! Right, let me tell you that we had 4 more points last season. So what are you talking bout??

I think we can do better thanmid table. I think 6 maybe 5.

ri red

We also had different experienced players and different manager last season, did the 4 extra points we had last season at this stage get us a top 4 finish. . . No. . . so what are you talking bout?

30 Jan 2013 22:14:08
Good point overall. Never easy to get a result there and we showed some resilience under a lot of pressure. Arsenal were good second half and not many teams can live with them when they play like that. I would have settled for a point before the game and although we let a two goal lead slip I thought we deserved our point.

30 Jan 2013 22:13:46
A bit disapointed to be honest. 60 minutes gone and 2-0 up, you would expect to see it out. So we still have to wait to beat a team above us. Bonuses? Spurs drawing, Hendo's performance (should have scored earlier tho). Negatives? Everton winning and Downing for long parts of the game, oh and my bet! Suarez first goal and Liverpool to win 2-1!

Hendo - he will become a club legend.
Sturridge - nice hold up play, need' games, and power if his going to play center forvard.
Carra - again huuuuuge balls of steal, he should borow some to Downing, I am yet to see him go one on one with anybody.
I hope we do something (defensinglywise??) in the market till it ends.

Shouldn't it be Balls of Steel rather than Steal!

Hi Eds. Just a question. I understand that Coutinho is recovering from an injury when we signed him. What injury is it and how long will he start playing again? {Ed001's Note - no idea sorry, I didn't realise he was injured.}

From 21.40 downwards there are eleven continuous negative comments. This is the modern fan for you.

Personally, I'm made up with the point.

DaveyBootle

That's a modern LFC fan for you, would you have accepted a point in the 1980's? Would Paisley? Would Shankly. There is a difference between winners and loosers.

Just the same old delusions of grandeur from the instant fan contingency, which worryingly continues to propagate itself on the boards after a tough game.

Since Stoke beat us we've been very good in the League, QPR 3-0, Sunderland away 3-0, Man United (League leaders) beat us 2-1 at Old Trafford, we destroyed Norwich 5-0 and now Arsenal managed to work back a point at their own ground in last nights 2-2.

So, that's lost 2, won 3 and drawn 1. City next and if we get a surprising win it will be euphoria on the boards from the same people who slated the team tonight. That's the company we seem to suffer, it is the cross that we bare as one of the biggest clubs in the World. If we lose, then we can expect much the same as we've seen tonight. ''The mob is fickle Brother''.

Sooo annoyed! I mean a draw ain't bad considering but when your 2-0 up you need to hold onto games like that! So frustrating to watch when we had that in the palm of our hands! But that all comes with experience which we ain't got unfortunately but hopefully soon enough we will! Also got to give it too Henderson he's battled his way through and got a terrific goal so well done to him!

Just look at the Chelsea game they have get a good team but as well as us they have basically branded a new team together and there messing up!

Still i'm optimistic I think a draw ain't the end of the world! Bring on the city mancs!

Shame we let in 2 goals in a short period of time. BR possibly closed the door a bit late when he took Sturridge off, he's still not fully fit and maybe should have come off 10 mins earlier.
However, the positives; Very good team all round performance, nobody played poorly. Hendo and Carra immense, particularly as they have not been fancied. Gerrard showed he's still the best. Hopefully now BR knows his first choice 11, and in particular his starting midfield trio. We've got to keep this intensity until the end of the season, there's an outside chance of top 4, Spurs and Arsenal remain inconsistent.

Second arsenal goal was easily created because Saurez failed to track back, that's why Rodgers shored it up

Until this position is sorted then we will continue to cause pressure to our defence which will cause goals conceded.

What joy it must be for our rivals supporters to come on to this site and see how our 'fans' support the team (see the 10 or so posts below). What a pack of losers; you fail to see that there are actually two teams on the pitch and Arsenal played really well in the second half. We were great in the first 60 minutes or so and I though we showed a lot of character to keep fighting after they scored 2 in 3 minutes. Well done lads, good point, shame about some of the supporters on here - I wish those who choose to see every single goal against or spell of pressure for the other side (gasp! shock! amazement! Arsenal at home had sustained possession and pressure - who would have thought it?) as an excuse to slag off the team and the manager would just bugger off; totally shameful the lot of you. Liverpool played well tonight.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and i'm sure a lot of the people posting worries would put up good posts if we looked ok,

30 Jan 2013 22:09:35
Defensively we are terrible, unable to organise the defence on free kicks or provide enough cover for our defenders. All this tikka takka is fine going forward but not very good at defending. We kept getting sliced open. Brendon has to learn how to close down games. How good was saurez, played out of position but was up there with the attackers then in midfield then defending.MrT {Ed001's Note - he wasn't out of position, he played wide mainly in Holland.}

Dont want to worry all our fans, but that was our best team out there tonight !!!!!
We were out played for most of the game and only Arsenals shoddy defending helped us.
Were is the passing system BR was harping on about pre season. IE == A player will always have two passing options HHHMMMM What about none most of the time.
Saurez wide left ?? Looked bad and wrong shape.
Just listening to the boys on SSp, Redders saying that was our best performance all season ? I must be wachin something else.

Nope I wouldn't take a draw we have improved our team lately and we are in no position accepting draws if we want to compete for top4 and improve our league position then these are the games which we need to win don't forget Arsenal have been average this season this is the time to take advantage but nope we look out of our depth despite improving our team its shocking!

30 Jan 2013 22:06:52
I watched the game and I felt we were not that bad, apart from two goals we conceded I think the defence did a good job, what Liverpool lack is a strength in midfield someone who can boss the game and make those runs I'm middles like gerrard use to do, he can't do anymore, I still think he was one of our best players today,

Suarez was lost as he had to defend as well as attack which probably wasn't good for him today, I always said last year whenever I criticised KD, I always said Henderson will improve, he shows that signs but he has no strength to go forward and is very cautious player, if he wants to become a great player he will have to up his game and take more risk,

Maybe Liverpool came with a draw in their mind as the team was set up in that manner, we could have played a bit more attacking on second half we could have scored more goals,

Liverpool is almost there where they need to be, few more addition in squad in summer maybe a bit of strength in midfield will improve the team massively, hope by them we still have Suarez with us

Have a good one Liverpool fans,

DK London

No idea why you say that about Hendo. His goal was purely the result of strength and taking a risk

30 Jan 2013 22:06:51
Right here we go.
Reina-2 quality saves first half couldn't do much about 2 goals.
Wisdom- Getting better, is strong and pacey just needs to calm down a bit when in possesion.
Carragher-Outstanding performance, if only he was younger. Organising defence the whole game.
Agger-Quality enough said.
Johnson-Kept Walcott quiet for most of the game. Defensive duties are much better.
Lucas-Looks a bit out of sorts and not fully fit but still does a great job.
Gerrard-Playing deeper nowdays and looked very tired at the end. Always dangerous though.
Henderson-Was running around like headless chicken early on and gave the wrong ball a few times but was pleased for the lad for scoring.Obviously working hard and not letting his head drop.
Downing-Worked hard for the team but must get better quality balls in from wide positions.
Suarez-Always a danger, never know where he is going to pop up.Worked hard for the team tonight on the left.
Sturridge-Decision making was poor at times but again always a danger and making the defenders work.
Overall a very good performance closing down was excellent for about an hour but you cannot do that for the whole game, tiredness kicks in working that hard. We let Arsenal off the hook tonight but must start protecting leads. Lets all get behind what is trying to be done here.A youthful side that can only learn and get better.Lets push on to the next game and support the manager and players. The game is about opinions and this is mine.Liverpool is in my blood and will support them through thick and thin.

30 Jan 2013 22:06:03
What's with all the negativity? For 60 minutes we have walked all over Arsenal and made them look distinctly average. OK in the end a game we should have won ends up with one point but it's another sign of progress. Give Brendan 12 months and he'll have us back where we belong. Have faith.

Wow must be hard to see the game with one eye closed. We probably had dominance for the first 10 minutes but didn't see us boss the game after that.

In fact we appeared to set up to defend for the rest of the game, and almost all of the rest of our chances came from their atrocious defending.

Good point away from home though, but that Arsenal side is what tiki taka football gets you, a lot of the ball but not many points

Disappointing draw! Thought we'd closed the game after Hendo's great goal. We just invited pressure on ourselves and we payed for it. The first 50 minutes were great! We are definitely improving we just need to learn how to see a game out. I am still mistified as to how we haven't beat a team in the top half, maybe were just camera shy. 30 Jan 2013 22:02:49
Personally, Unless we do something unexpected tomorrow I think the transfer window has been a big failure for our club.
BR addressed one key area which was to get in a striker but surely everyone can see we need some physical presence and a real CB. Skrtel unfortunately not good enough and people have been saying so for years, at least we should have brought in a decent back up.
The lack of a real holding midfield player is also an issue. Lucas adjusted to the role well but since his injury has looked too lightweight to play there. Coutinho may be amazing but I feel BR is being too stubborn and in the end it could be his downfall. We have an abundance of pacey wingers and second-strikers. We need someone to really strike fear into opposition.
A poor performance tonight. All out hard work undone in 3 mins is a good summation of our season. Not yet beat a team above us and I am starting to get the feeling we have given Rodgers his big chance too early. His acquisitions in the transfer market have been equally as bad as KK's and also cost stupid money. I worry for our club, if we can't hold onto a 2 goal lead against a team above us, we really will struggle.
I hope we improve drastically against the bigger clubs, its them we need to beat.

I said last week that draws away to Gunners and Citeh would be a good result.

To lose a two goal lead in that short space of time is what you generally see happen to lower teams, not a team that believes it should be top four (or even 2nd as Rodgers remarked a couple of months back).

So frustrating, but that's the beauty (and ugliness) of this game.

In the end, disappointed we didn't win, but happy we didn't lose!

30 Jan 2013 22:01:03
I think anyone with half a brain would have took that result before kick off. Shame we threw away a 2 goal lead though.
Still, Not losing still gives us a good chance of leap frogging them by the end of the season.
Can't understand all the negative posts, did you all just expect to turn up at the emirates and leave with 3 points?
I doubt there is a team in the world with that level of confidence.
We have a long way to go before we can call today a bad result.
Defence needs a rethink in the summer.

Wenger exposed Wisdom, Rodgers should have Known!!2-2 and take a striker off ??Yet again, Rodgers demonstrates his tactical ineptitude !! Uglygeordiegenius {Ed001's Note - you mean trying to protect the left flank as Johnson was struggling with Walcott's pace and Enrique needs cover to help him defend too? Hardly ineptitude.}

Well said ED001.
Why was Suarez playing on the left?
The ineptitude is the poster not understanding the game.

Second half Podolski was all over Wisdom and all their play was down that side. Johnson should have replaced Wisdom, Enrique gone left back and Sturridge stayed on.Shutting up shop away from home at half time at 2-2, inept you mugs!!Oh, and Sturridge didn't look too pleased coming off either, so great man management to boot.Did you watch the game or just MOTD ?? 30 Jan 2013 22:00:02
Well, a hard fought draw in the end, we were superb up until arsenal scored and we just buckled under pressure, we all know that arsenal are a good team when playing at home so I'd take a draw! Got to say that Jordan Henderson take a bow son, absolutely superb tonight! We just looked tired at the end but could of nicked it with Suarez! I've said all along that we aren't ready for the champions league, I don't think we will get it...... To all those negative comments, let me say that it took fergie 5 years to win a trophy and he nearly got sacked, it took man city Afew years to win a trophy when they got rich, it took Chelsea time to achieve what they wanted when they got rich too, arsenal aren't won a trophy for 9 years, everton aren't won a trophy since 95.....My point is everyone needs to have a plan and stick with it, we are not even 1 year into our plan of action, so things are going to take time to sort out and create the sort of team that brenden wants! Yes we have had rubbish results this season but that's what we should have expected, I think some of you thought we would be challenging for the premiership this season ! All I'm saying is we need to be more realistic in our expectations, forget champs lge coz we aren't good enough yet! But in time we will get there!

Ack17

If I was Liverpool's manager, I would not be happy with Hendo. For every good thing he does he makes a bad play, he's only at 50%. This is a great progress from last season, where he could not do anything right. At the top, players need to be close to 100%, the good moves need to far out weight the scewups. When and if Hendo gets close to that consistency he will be one hell of a footballer. The coach has to manage and guide him towards that level.

30 Jan 2013 22:00:00
I just think that we were lacking a real combative defensive mid. Wilshere and Cazorla kept dropping in to space and playing whatever passes they liked. Our gameplan was obviously soak up the pressure and then hit them on the counter and if we had taken a couple more good opportunities in the first half the game would have been over. They just seemed to have more men than us in every area of the pitch. Letting a two goal lead slip is disappointing but we probably deserved a point. I really felt we could have stood toe to toe with them but if we managed to nick it at the end I wouldn't be complaining.

I can't believe it, all you haters must have been sitting by your computers waiting to slag the players off. You should be ashamed of yourselves, by all means have constructive critisism but slagging off is just daft.

Actually surprised we didn't lose that match.

Our 2 goals came from very poor defensive play from Arsenal, although credit to Hendo for wriggling himself through on goal.

At 1-0 up, we knew what was coming, at 2-0 up, we still knew what was coming...and we all thought Arsenal were going to win; even at 2-0 up. I am sure most of you will admit that!

So why do we always have this feeling of our own demise during games?

One reason is after we score, we become sooo static and don't close down the opposition, it happens all the time and we just invite the pressure. Why do this?

Possession football is nice and all, but it doesn't win you matches; you have to be creative, to score goals, and we lack creativity up front too often and in too many games.

When you're 2-0 however possession football is what sees you through...but we are the polar opposite. 0-0 or 1-0 down we'll knock it about to and fro going nowhere fast, but go 2-0 up and we don't want the ball to control the game, instead we let the opposition have it and control the game.

Our football is really unattractive! I am sure some of you will agree that we see the following things every game:

* A lack of creativity

* Most players passing with the power of a baby elephant (Making it difficult for the other player to receive and hence losing possession)

* Passing around in our own half with no intent to go forward

* Lack of movement off the ball

* Making sure Pepe receives at least 150 passes a game, otherwise the game would have been pointless.

There is a lot more, but those are just a few of the frustrating things that occur everytime we play!

Suarez and Sturridge were also way to far apart tonight to make a difference together.

Thought we nicked it at the end with Suarez' effort. How bad was Szczesny?

In the end, I am really glad we got a point from this game.

SR (AKA StrabaneRed)

I'm pretty sure most fans thoughts we could win it before the game let alone 2-0 up!

Great post, mate!
Everything is just spot on.

Nikki

30 Jan 2013 21:57:36
Gave too much possession in the 2nd half - but gooners had to go for it after going two down, weren't they? Great performances from Hendo, my MOTM, Johnson and Suarez. Look - we're all disappointed we couldn't come off with the win, but the signs are positive! Singred

30 Jan 2013 21:57:24
Wisdom is shocking can't pass the ball forward, kept stitching reina! Downing is awful against good teams and goes missing!

Downing ha a good game mate you must be watching a different game tonight

Wisdoms a beast **** off or get behind us

30 Jan 2013 21:56:47
Dissapointing that we couldn't defend a 2 goal lead but...

Well done boys, good point away at Arsenal (I think we would all have settled for an away draw at the Arse before KO)

PS.

All you BR bashers, still want Benitez back??

Devon Red

30 Jan 2013 21:56:38
need to take the positives from this game
would have to a draw before hand
henderson looking superb
carragher proved he can still a job
reina looking back to his old ways
4th spot still not out of sight

30 Jan 2013 21:55:35
Just come on the site to see how everyone has reacted and the first half dozen posts say "we are rubbish" "rogers is crap" .. etc - I can't believe you people - Arsenal were terrific at times their passing must be a nightmare to play against when they are in the mood - no wonder they got 4 in ten mins against west ham the other day - capitulation would have been a 4-2 loss tonight but it wasnt. We hung in there when it would have been easy to fold and got a point - its made to look bad because we were two up, but please give the boys some credit.

You weren't so negative when we were two up and what did you expect Arsenal to do .. give up .. they threw everything at us and fair play they got themselves a point. But we played well in the first half and dug in during the second half -

Same effort and creativeness against City please.

Terry Mac

Agreed Arsenal had a lot of energy pressing the ball. was surprised they were able to keep it going, they only really tired in the last 5 min.

Agree with largely everything you said.

Until your last sentence.

We didn't really make an effort when we went 2-0 up and our goals weren't through creativity, but by Poor Arsenal defending.

So more effort and creativeness please, for me.

I'd take tonight's result at City too.

Just my opinion.

SR (StrabaneRed)

30 Jan 2013 21:54:45
were was our tiki taki stupid passing, &we played 5in midfield just invited them on to us every time no pressing them on the ball at all, we looked all over the place tonight, why take sturridge off for enrique, shouldve took downing off& kept sturridge on & went 442, at least wed have had abit off pace up top, downing has no idea at all, i'm sick 2-0 up with half hour 2go, & we were lucky to get apoint,
city will destroy us the weekend if we play that system
im sick how can we just crumble like that we need abig strong quick cb before tranfer window closes asap

30 Jan 2013 21:54:19
Only Liverpool let a 2-0 lead slip and look like losing the game. Although in the end I think we where luckey to come away with a point I still think if we had held that lead for at least 10 mins we would have got all 3 points. I have no idea why enrique did not play, but wisdom cannot play in these big games. Henderson had a fantastic game and is miles ahead of allen so i'm happy with a midfield trio of henderson, gerrard and lucas. Suarez was out to wide tonight and he doesn't look as comfortable as when he was CF. I think a 7th or 6th place finish would be a good result at the end of the season. This is reality, we are simply not good enough for 4th place. Maybe next season when the manager is in his second season and things have settled and gelled together. Happy with the addition of coutinho but not looking forward to man city on sunday.

Any idea why Mancini was at the game tonight? hmmmm {Ed001's Note - because we play them.}

30 Jan 2013 21:53:59
All the comments here are saying the same thing, everyone knows this, every manager, player, fan, armchair manager, they ALL know the one truth in football - YOU CANT SIT DEEP, DEFEND AND EXPECT TO WIN. Liverpool were disgraceful if you ask me. We were so lucky to get a draw. We were 2-0 up and looked afraid!! Why the hell didn't Rodgers bollock them at half time and get the full team attacking. We are definately heading for 7th or 8th again this season. We have played 24 games and failed to beat a team above us. So disheartened and not lookin forward to going to City. We could get put out of our misery there!!

What are you talking about we were 1-0 up so why would BR bollock them at half time. Our problem tonight is airily we are weak and always look like conceding to free kicks and corners. We seem to switch off and not attack the ball. Happy with a point but hopefully a settled and experienced back four will help things.

Jesus. . ok mate, i'll see you at just around the same time after city. I assume you'll say the same things. i'll set my watch by it.

ok, deep breath. for a final time, we are a new side finding it's feet. we should not get carried away by stunning performances like 5-0 v norwich. like we shouldn't get too down about a point at arsenal. equally so should we go down battling 2-1 this weekend. we're moving slowly onwards, adding some creativity to the side this very day! it's called progression.

30 Jan 2013 21:53:46
The absolute rubbish some of youse post on here is absolutely laughable, lets sack BR, Alan Curbishley isn't in a job as far as I'm aware, he's much better, or maybe we should try and get Pulis? We should get rid of Suarez because he only scored 1 today, Allen was poor again don't even think he touched the ball all game! Henderson and Downing aren't even conference standard players and Sturridge isn't even worth 1.2m...surely most of you nameless doom mongers must be trolling!?!?

Alan Partridge

30 Jan 2013 21:53:40
Good result, defo would have taken that before the game. Herndon had a great game as did Carragher. We could have easily just fallen apart there and went into hiding but fair play to the boys they dug in and got a good draw.
Looking forward to the remainder of the season and I really believe that we have the right manager in place to take us on the the next level.
I also believe that he has been quite shrewd in the transfer market because 21 odd million for countinho and sturridge will end up being very good business. Take care guys. Jaffer81

30 Jan 2013 21:53:06
just a few points, still have'nt beaten a team in the top 10. won't get a better chance all season, could'nt defend a 2 goal lead. reina looks like he don't want to be here so get rid, did'nt make a move for their second.both our full backs look good gowing forward but neither can defend a ball in the air.lastly what the hell happened to our possesion football, all we did after going 2 up was sit on the edge of the 18 yard box and hoof the ball up the park straight back to them
rant over, but play those same tactics next sunday and we are in for a hiding
fforestfach red

30 Jan 2013 21:52:00
First half we pressed high up the pitch forcing Arsenal players to panic and make mistakes and got what we deserved. Second half we dropped off, we stopped pressuring their defence and midfield and dropped far too deep inviting them onto us. There's an old saying, the best form of defence is attack and the two halfs prove that.

30 Jan 2013 21:49:54
What a brutal season..

30 Jan 2013 21:49:16
If you told me before the match, that we would draw, I wouldn't believe you, because of our recent performance. OK, we let a 2 goal lead slip, but it's not like we are playing easy opposition. We are playing a team, away, who are in the latter stages of the Champions league. This is a step in the right direction.

Piledriver

It's nice too see fans like you that understand the direction we're going. Top post!

30 Jan 2013 21:48:15
Sure Rodgers said something about being able to defend by retaining possession. How are we supposed to do that if we play with a lone striker and 9 men behind the ball from like the 5th minute of the game? The resulty is not too bad but the performance was very poor - don't think Wisdom is good enough, seems to be caught out of position everytime, Arsenal were battering his side of the pitch for that 2nd half and with good reason as well, abysmal.

Goal from the free-kick was a horrorshow to concede, do we have a defensive coach at all? Shouldn't be getting caught out in such a basic way.

Very angry right now, game was there for the taking at 2-0 and we have let 2 valuable points slip against a CL rival, so disappointing.

30 Jan 2013 21:47:55
We were complacent when we got the two-goal league and we were punished, but that happens and we will learn from that! Nevertheless, a draw against Arsenal at the Emirates is a good result for any team! A win would have done wonders for a push for 4th spot we still have 14 games to turn this around and I can't see Everton staying up there for too long if I'm being honest. A win would have been great but a draw will have to do. You'll Never Walk Alone!

30 Jan 2013 21:47:40
Could've and should've won, final ball let us down 1st half.Have to say Achilles heal is our backside falls out when we conceded-pure panic! also Wiltshire and Giroud=cheating gits

Wiltshire may have conned the ref but I would have him in my team anyway. If Arsenal did not have him and his drive they would have lost tonight. He is quality.

30 Jan 2013 21:47:34
Henderson is starting to become a smashing midfielder.MATTYLFC

Funny that most on here wanted rid of Henderson a few weeks ago

30 Jan 2013 21:47:31
The biggest thing that worries me was how br was after they drew level!! Lots of head shaking etc etc reminds me of woy rubbing his face !! This job might be a tad early for br !!
Hope I'm wrong
Redjay

Couldnt agree more although he is a better manager than him.
personally I would have kept sturridge and brought suarez in middle play on counteract

In his first 5 years at Man U, Ferguson finished 11, 2, 11, 13, 6.
The expectation that a manager is going to walk in and make championship contenders is ridiculous. Frankly, supporters need to get off BR's back. Afterall, he inherited a team that had "relegation form" written all over them in the 2nd half of last season.

30 Jan 2013 21:47:27
That defence is very poor! when you play a team that can pass the ball better than you and you give them time on the ball will cost you which it has. And not marking there there danger man in the air what a bunch of plonkers.

look at arsenal when we had the ball in are faces and being out numbered.
BR learn from there example on closing down and pressing then maybe top 4 may be in reach.

disappointed we could get all 3 points but least we didn't lose lol congrats jordan henderson take a bow didn't stop all night adn scored a decent bt lucky goal.

What are you on about ! Our defence was far better than Arsenal's, in the first half there were all over the place and our defence was solid. We conceded 2 good goals, sometimes you just have to accept that.

Roy

30 Jan 2013 21:47:11
Talk about soft centred. Why can't anyone see we need to spend serious money on this team if we ever want to win things.

30 Jan 2013 21:46:38
i thought before the game we could have won this to go 2-0 up was amazing thought we had it in the bag but to be real an honest we was lucky. To come to arsenal an defend all game hitting them on the break is a joke.I thought we wanted to play the passing game like arsenal what a joke am sick of this rubbish now I really do think were gona be playing uefa football again nxt season

Not sure what game you were watching but Arsenal were the lucky ones

Said wouldn't get beat loads.Proud but should've won. g.j sold himself turning back on cross that led to second. If Enrique fit for bench, what not start? Or is it this match fit stuff again? But got to say didn't agree with Sturridge taken off.Shouldve taken Wisdom off and switched Johnson to natural position.Enrique leftback

Kept walcott quiet that's why

Sturridge could n't play 2 full games yet . He played the full 90 on Sunday and we need him for this sunday coming .
Roy

Oh did Walcott not score then? Must've missed that dohhhh

Enrique didn't do much because he just came back so it's good that he played left mid instead of left back

a draw against arsenal away from home and people are complainin sayin we are a disgrace..if you ask me the guys postin this crap are the disgrace! happy with the result..henderson was outstanding..same again on sunday YNWA

NIDGE

Thought arsenal played well and we dug deep and took our chances. .Chelsea, City & Utd wouldn't expect a win at the Emirates. .all the moaners expectations are either too high or they're deluded!

Alf

Arsenal not the team they once was and today are very much beatable. us on the other hand are too weak.

I think people are complaining because we threw away a two goal lead yet again, but if your happy with that then maybe you should go and support Villa

30 Jan 2013 21:44:18
If BR believes we have a player ready to take over from SG then he'd better start playing him.
If he doesn't believe we have such a player then he'd better hurry up and buy one

Chris in Tamworth

Jordan Henderson or Coutinho?

World class players cost money mate.

DaveyBootle

Chris, is this subtle criticism of Gerrard?. I though he had a good game today . defensively and offensively .

Roy

Why? Because he got tired chasing and pressing a very fit, young, and fast Arsenal midfield and attack? Or because he's played more consecutive games this season than since 2008? Or maybe because he's scored 5 goals and had 8 assists in the league so far this season? Or maybe because between him and Suarez goals and assists they've accounted for 32 of the 42 league goals LFC have scored this season?

SpudRed

My OP wasn't in any way a criticism of Gerrard, the opposite in fact, I'm worried how we'll cope without him

Chris in Tamworth

30 Jan 2013 21:43:26
Really good performance bit unlucky not to get all three points. Henderson and Suarez stand out performers.

kidmillions

What are you smokin?? We were penned in our own half for the full game. Look at the possesion stats, we gave the ball away, gave away a 2-0 lead. We were terrible and super lucky to get a draw. OMG get real.

30 Jan 2013 21:42:04
Man City all over again, absolutely awful marking of Giround.
A point is a point though and that is always better than a loss.
Congratulations Jamie on man of the match.

30 Jan 2013 21:41:57
Very dissapointed we didn't get 3 points tonight considering at one point we were 2-0 up Reina really didn't do well on Walcotts goal he didn't even move which to me is the exact reason why were even thinking of moving him on come summer. Other then that the boys did alright at least we got a point considering we were stuck in our half the majority of the game.

Yes but reina made other saves! Just enjoy a draw away at arsenal

You should n't ignore the 2 super saves Reina made .
The second goal was an excellent shot from Walcott, it was hit with such venom no keeper could've done anything about it.

Roy

30 Jan 2013 21:41:50
Happy with that, although gutted we through away a 2-0 lead.

Never ever thought i'd see the day when a Liverpool fan would be happy with throwing away a two goal lead.

First of all it says 'gutted' about throwing away the lead, secondly it's called realism.

30 Jan 2013 21:41:37
Can we buy a new back five in the next 24 hours please because our are rubbish .

Someone didn't watch the game

30 Jan 2013 21:40:05
Coutinho went through that match as if he wasn't playing!

30 Jan 2013 21:39:41
Never seen us sit so far back and give the ball away so much. Arsenal made us so panicked at the back. Very frustrating to watch. Wilshere is a player worthy to take Gerrard's No. 8 shirt though. A class apart from the rest.

-Shane.

30 Jan 2013 21:38:55
Well a draw is better than a loss I suppose. I really thought we had a win in the bag there for a minute. Shame the bag had a hole in it!

2-0 up and then we fall apart when the other team gets to put us under slight pressure, soft or what.

Jumpy

Flat track bullies that's what we are

30 Jan 2013 21:34:11
Sorry to say as don't like to criticise the side but we have been poor. No attack whatsoever.

Cara has been class, Hendo great as well.

Poor tactics from Brendan, Suarez is our best player and is played on the left!!!!

Suarez scored whilst playing on the left what are you talking about?

30 Jan 2013 21:32:03
BR ever going to be able to beat a good side??????

30 Jan 2013 21:31:22
This game just about sums Liverpool up. Showing the two ends of our spectrum from good to bad.

30 Jan 2013 21:30:58
all that good work and just like that they throw it away against a rubbish Arsenal side. This team has no backbone. They are missing that Rafa steel. Not Rafa just that X factor Rafa instilled in his Liverpool teams. To throw away a 2 goal lead like that is unforgiveable. We should be hammering these tools.
Capetownred {Ed001's Note - they stopped pressing the ball once they got 2 ahead again. That has been happening for 20+ years now.}

Er hello, did you see the Chelsea v Reading result . . great Rafa teams who never throw away a 2-0 lead . .

Think you're being a little disrespectful calling Arsenal a rubbish side. Credit where it's due they moved the ball well and pressed the game.

30 Jan 2013 21:19:25
I'm worried - just over 25 hours to sell Reina! What a fall from glory

Your having a laugh, he made some great saves, i'd like to see how much you would move when a ball is kicked that hard from so close.MrT

30 Jan 2013 22:33:17
Reina was terrible toda. .

Oh no he wasn't though, was he?

- Something Red -

30 Jan 2013 17:32:00
EDs now that we've bought Coutinho, how would he be deployed (once properly settled) and what do you see as the best starting 11 with everyone fit and available? We have quite a few players in Mid, do you see anyone like Shelvey, Suso, Downing leaving in this window?

Cheers ShuMan {Ed001's Note - I have no idea how he will be deployed, sorry. I also don't know how anyone can say a best 11 when it depends on form. I only expect loan moves out as things stand.}

30 Jan 2013 21:24:00
We look terrible now, can't even kick the ball

What game where you watching fella? Thought we played well for first hour and deserved to be 2 up! Then we stopped playing and looked nervous, sat back and let the gunners back into the game. Could of won it at the end.., YNWA

30 Jan 2013 21:23:45
What an apsalout joke we are now 2-0 away an we let it slip looking like a 3 or 4-2 loss right now... Rodgers hasn't got the experience to win such games were gunna beat most small teams next year but no CL means no big players means no wins! Simple as that...

Hahahhah mugged your self off there

Well, your post certainly was simple.

SpudRed

You Muppet of a "supporter" what as it got to do with Rodgers that the players throw away a 2-0 lead.

How about say Agger for losing his man for the first

Lyndon

God I am sick of people like you. Grow and support the team, if not do one!

How can you blame Rodgers when the players on the field go from attacking to sleep walking, Glen Johnson is overrated, he looked out of his depth at LB. the players just looked not fully committed, carriages and Gerard wer giving it their all, the rest didn't look the part to be using that shirt, extremely disappointed with the way these players are performing

Final score 2-2 so wasn't a loss and nearly nicked it at the end. {Ed001's Note - nobody think we should have had a pen for handball? Just wondered.}

30 Jan 2013 21:22:11
Oh we'll. looked promising for a while but we completely disintegrated. Gerrard too tired or just she'll shocked.

Or maybe it had a little something to do with playing away from home against the team that has scored the most goals at home this year so far and has a bunch of attacking speedy players in form. Just saying.

SpudRed

30 Jan 2013 21:21:51
Don't think much of our so called tika taka football. Seems to have gone out the window against a better side.

Come on boys at least try and scrape a draw.

:-(

Arsenal play the same style of football so and have similar quality players but they have more experience of this style of play. They also have a better manager than us but they have won nothing for 6-7 years or something like that. It was a good game at the end of the day and we played some good football but we should have marked Giroud on the FK as he is in scoring form.
Scouse_Pride

30 Jan 2013 21:20:01
What did I say earlier ? Its 2-2 now and aresenal will score again, we only scored because of two individual performances, but were playing crap. I don't see this passing game were known for . Its like old ham all over again . And for some reason the manager has decided we should start defending more, this is just sickening .

It is called mixing it up.

30 Jan 2013 21:18:50
Defending far too deep as usual, midfield none existent, gerrard and lucas need to get a grip, and we need to cut down the back passes to reina, suarez having a blinder

You are kidding right?

Agreed, Henderson is beginning to look like a top player. I don't understand why this has more disagrees than agrees, some liveprool fans are truely dumb. no footballing IQ what so ever

Not a rumour but who was in the three envelops? I'm guessing downing an hendo but fair play for getting there head down an improving...

There are no names in the envelopes

The three names are Brendan Rodgers.......in all of them!

Apart from being 1-0 up this is a sluggish performance partly due to suarez out wide he doesent get enough of the ball out wide

guys...

in big games...like today
just watch henderson and downing.

when the ball comes to them with time and space...they pass it anywhere just to get rid of it as they have............ZERO CONFIDENCE

i see why we struggle because its like being in 9 men

so give brendan time..cos its hard when you have players who don't feel comfortable taking charge or want the ball or make good judgements when they have time and space

just watch today

Ed's just wanted to know of the keepers around who has the same or better ball skills than Pepe, is it easier to find Keepers with ball skills now than it was maybe 5 years ago? No speculation I was just interested. Leem {Ed001's Note - no, they tend to end up in goal because they don't have the ball skills to play out on the pitch.}

ed1 you called me a laughing stock, after watching sisoko for 5 minutes proved to me he is better than joe allen, and I thought joe allen played well for the 1st couple of games, but he is light weight, camolli said he was a good player, but that's is job to look for good players, and you have not given my prediction time to call me a laughing stock, as I said eds he will turn newcastles season around, lets wait for the end of the season before calling names hey ed1, but I called BR for him to go because of his failure to see past swansea and today we are linked with ashley williams, guess where he is from, i'm sure there is better defenders out there not from swansea, I guarentee he will also go for swanseas left back who has a broken leg at the moment I think his name is neil taylor he broke his ankle on the 1st of september, and is out for the rest of the season, now I don't know what other fans think but my club is Liverpool f.c. not merseyside swasnsea f.c. and if you think i'm a laughing stock for wanting better players than swansea have then that's down to you but, lets wait to see who is right hey ed1

as I said its not because of the results or selections, its because BR only looks to swansea for players for us, borini, allen, linked with ashley williams, which will mean suarez will leave because of the statement ashley williams came out with calling suarez all kinds, suarez will leave in the summer if we get williams, and as I have said, i'm convinced he will go in for neil taylor swanseas left back, now you eds know a lot about football and all the rumours, but have any of you heard about Liverpool looking a niel taylor swanseas left back, I have not, my source is knowing where BR looks for players and that's swansea, well lets hope i'm wrong and your right, if i'm wrong I will come on here and admit I was wrong about BR, but sissoko will be a very good player for newcastle, that's what I think anyway, but if i'm right ed1 will you come on and admit I was right and you was wrong

mickey b {Ed001's Note - you are talking crap, that is why I called you a laughing stock, nothing to do with predictions. You have no idea what you are on about, this is just utter nonsense that I can't be arsed to read. Now grow up and try supporting instead of whining.}

You're a laughing stock because in one breath you say, "lets wait for the end of the season before calling names", and then you say we need to get rid of Rodgers now.

Oh, and Sturridge, Coutinho, Assaidi, and Sahin never bloody played for Swansea and Borini had 6 games for them. So, 1 of Rodgers purchases does not constitute a point, mate. You're making yourself a punch line. Have a quiet word with yourself.

30 Jan 2013 19:11:48
Why on earth is BR playing Carra against Arsenal? He was slow when at his peak but now he makes Andy Carrol look like Usain Bolt. Arsenal will rip him to shreds! Carra would have been in his element and added massively to the team against Oldham helping organise the young players and help lead the team against the physical but slow Oldham attack.

I'm a fan of BR but I do find this a strange move.

Carra was always going to start tonight after Skrtels performance at the weekend.

Hyypia was slow but his position was excellent, as is Carragher's. People are calling for more experience, enter Carragher!

I'm happy he's playing as he's one of my favourite players just for being the man and legend he is. If he's late for a tackle here or gets caught for pace there, then so be it. But he's a dog of war and if the manager picks him then he'll do his damned best.

30 Jan 2013 20:39:02
Looks like he's doing a good job so far. Agree that's he no way near the player he once was, but he's done well so far. Hope it continues :)

You clearly know nothing as he has been our best defender so far in the game. It's not about pace, it's about standing up and making space an he's doing it superbly. The problem so far has been the full backs playing us in to trouble and coming in-field too much.

Sorry, what were you saying? Didn't quite catch that.

ND

Our defence in the Oldham match was ripped to shreds. Carra is a seasoned pro and knows what it's all about. Probably why he was chosen against the Arse.

I'm glad he's been picked TBH

Crowman.

A big improvement! We were hanging on by the seat of our pants yet again. Carra is an absolute legend but needs to hang up his boots before he spoils the memories

30 Jan 2013 18:58:34
I for one am very happy for Carra, I was one who was at the forefront for him to be dropped last season, as he was becoming increasingly mistake prone.

Since the away 3-0 away win against Norwich last season, I have seen the revival of a legend. Last season Carra rightfully was omitted as both Skrtel and Agger were outstanding, but this season has been very different. I think Agger has been awful, constantly being destroyed by distinctly average player (Benteke, Walters and K.Jones) he has been almost unable to win a challenge in the air, but what he brings to the team technically is the reason he will always maintain his position.

Skrtel last season was immense in the air, the one game that always sticks to mind was the 2-1 away win at Stamford Bridge, where Skrtel reduced Drogba to nothing. Yet this season he has been plagued with the same problems as Agger, unable to complete with Average players physically. I personally cannot make sense of it, as he has the physicality to compete with anyone, so there must be a mental problem to not want to compete, and as he does not offer the same ability on the ball as Agger, he should rightfully be dropped.

If the current squad are under any illusions about what it takes to be a Liverpool player, they need but only look in the dressing room at Jamie Carragher. A man that had been touted for retirement (myself included), yet still fighting for a first team spot at the age of 35.

Just to finish, our best two defensive performances this season have been the 1-0 win away at Udinese and the 5-0 victory over Norwich, both games Carragher started.

Do not be surprised if he produces another solid performance tonight. If he is not offered at least a year extension, I will be shocked.

Jatt YNWA

Why do people always want more, eds wouldn't you agree that if a team buys to many players in one go its takes twice as long to bed the team in and get them playing together as a team, teams like man see and Chelsea have proved this before I'm personally happy with the way January has turned out we needed options up front we have that now don't we ?? This time last year we banged on about not putting the ball in the back of the net now there is more players to provide that remember we are rebuilding we have been for a couple of years since rafa the only way we can finish the rebuilding is sticking by the manager and believing in what he is doing is right for the club, I for one is happy with the way the club is progressing witch there is no doubt it is and I'm in no doubt BR is the young manager we have needed for sometime our very own SAF with a mission to get us back to where we belong Brendan rodgers YNWA!! {Ed052's Note - Buying x number of players wont mean double the settle in time, but generally, the more signings the longer it takes}

Can someone tell me what Henderson adds to the team, seriously? Apart from all that 'energy', 'determination' and ability to shift the ball with no real invention, from side to side (occasionally forward), because I can't see any reason why he is preferred to any other centre midfielder in the squad.

Carl

Because he's in better form then Allen and Shelvey who else are we going to put there? and Hendersons done well for himself showed real determination to get a spot in the team you sir are blind.

That moving the the ball side to side is called keeping possession, the opposition find it harder to score if they don't have the ball.

Why so negative the lad score a screamer the other week and has begun to hit form and look more like the player he was at Sunderland.

Fester

Hendo has been one of are best players of late do you watch us play don't think you do norich goal and asist for me has to start with gerrad and lucas every game

mike

Carl,
With Henderson you get a lot of energy and work rate, he passes the ball much better than Allen (at least he looks for the forward pass and not the simple 5 yard cross pass) and he has a very good shot on him (he showed it with his goal against Norwich).
For me its between him and Shelvey, it depends who is up for it on the day, something the manager decides.

Roy

Why should we try..

Moutinho is a quality player though Ed wouldn't you agree?

Chris in Tamworth {Ed001's Note - excellent but Spurs have been trying to sign him for years, they were willing to go in excess of 20m to sign him too.}

I think because it rhymes with Coutinho.

30 Jan 2013 18:22:09
Do we know where Rodgers will deploy Coutinho? I'd imagine he'd go wide left?

Didn't Rodgers say that he wanted players who could play in various positions.
derryred

Well, considering we don't play a wide left or right player, that's unlikely. :-)

He'll be played as one of the forward 3 inside forwards, interchanging. And occassionally as a no 10 in the Zola-zone.

Ed, a lot of speculation to do with a new CB.

However, do you not think that when Kelly is back and fit he could make his inevitable move into the middle?

Especially with the emergence and promising display of young Wisdom.

Cheers pal

ToonRed

I have always believed Kelly will be our future Cb and future captain, IMO he is the most important prospect our youth system has produced since Steven Gerrard himself.

IMO Kellys talent is at such a high quality he could play anywhere and he would do a good job, his positional sense at RB and LB is something of Carragher-esque.

He is the only player IMO who could replace Gerrards leaderhip while still maintaining that scouse heart, and signing him to a long term contract is beyond importance of any other player.

LOL yes I am a fan of his.

Jatt YNWA

p.s. McLaughin will be the future RB mate, Wisdom will have to fight for a place as a CB or the bench.

really like some feedback from yourself ed and everybody else.

players and manager alike are all saying we need to bring in some experienced players to help the youngsters and brendan rogers has said a number of times that the squad maybe could do with 3 or 4 players to build it up

daniel sturridge is a great targetman up front for suarez to feed off of but his lack of premiership games over the last couple of years hardly brings experience to the side

coutinho is a cracking buy but at 20 years old its that experience thing again even if the thomas ince deal goes ahead tomorrow its still the same thing

with joe cole already gone and rumours of downing and coates moving out the door as well we have still got the same squad size but even less experience than when we started.

if Liverpool can sell coates this window it looks odds on ashley williams will be a target but with a cup final waiting will he want to move

id really like to see a strong midfielder arrive allen, henderson and shelvey don't look ready for me and diame at west ham would be a great buy to strengthen the center of the park with a big name striker as well

I would love us to go for a deadline day move for diame as we need a hardnut in the middle of the park and also what is everyone's problem with skrtel. Also where we really interested in diame when KD was manager and when BR came in the interest had gone because of new manager.
Thanks guys

thanks {Ed002's Note - There is of course interest in a number of these players from a number of clubs.}

Hi Eds. I am sure we are all more than happy with our 2 signings but Rodgers previously said we need an experienced player, so even if this is a loan deal, who do you think it would be? I doubt the Ince deal will happen as he will bring no experience to the club and Coutinho has already covered the "1 for the future" that we looked for. Are we looking at any players that can give us atleast 3yrs? (Kamal)I'm a Red 4 Life. YNWA. {Ed002's Note - I would not hang off every word the coach says Kamal.}

Very happy, but want more? :):)

Just before everyone starts judging Coutinho, give him a chance, kid has plenty of potential, full on raw materials and providing we develop him properly he could be a real gem! Remember he's only 20 and he will need some time to settle and get into the English game! Please don't turn on him after 1 game or so! He needs our support just like the rest of the team do!

MoMo

Totally agree, luckily in the Premier were actually playing ok lately, so were not desperate.
I always feel that games at Anfield when your winning 2-0 plus with 30 minutes to go is the right time to introduce new young players.
No pressure on them, just play and build confidence get the fans on their side.
I'm very old school! though...impatient quarters won't agree..

Not a rumour but what about Scott Dann? A scouser, was desperate to play for LFC a couple of seasons ago, age, 25? I remember him forming a superb partnership with Samba. Just a thought...

He wasn't so great when they got relegated

Just a quick question for anyone that can help, is there any way that you can stream a game to an iPhone?
Downloaded a "flash player" and tried myp2p but no luck.
Can it be done?

Ashy

I don't think so mate I've bin trying for years... Screen just stays blank

Ashy,

I'm sure there are other ways but this is what I used. I found the best app to use was Skyfire. The app is free to use for a couple of days and then costs about 2-4 for the license, so not sure how much in pounds. It will allow you go to sites like firstrow, etc and access the flash content on any site. I've been using it and it seems great for the price.

M

Get a samsung:)

Apple don't like it.

Thanks for the info M il look into that now.
So does it actually work on a Samsung then?

Ashy

Easy if you know anyone who has the full tv package at home get their sign in details and go to skygo watch it there on your fone or your laptop I've been doing it for years now hasn't cost me a penny and I plug my laptop into my 60inch led and watch it in full hd free for ever

Download puffin browser costs £2.99 I think, firstrowsports website and one of those links should work. Click the link, should start playing on screen- few secs later a pop up will occur with a play button, click that and it will be full screen

Hope this helps

all the fans naming players they would like to have from around the world don't becuase BR can't see past swansea, its getting embarrising, I thought our club was called Liverpool football club, not swansea cast offs f.c.

Yep because Coutinho, Sturridge, Yesil and Sahin all had fruitful Swansea careers. HullRED

Sturrige and Coutinho did really well for swansea! MUPPET

allen played for swansea
borini played for swansea
assiadi never played for swansea
sturridge never played for swansea
yesil never played for swansea
countinho never played for swansea

tried to sign dempesy never played for swansea.

Swansea Cast Offs F.C. has got a nice ring to it, though.
Rigsby.

50% have come from Swansea. We do not need Williams. BR needs to start aiming higher. Coutinho indicates he seems to be learning to look beyond

I've had enough of him signing players only from swansea, chelsea, bayer leverkusen, heereveen, inter milan and roma. For god sake can't he look past these teams and sign someone from a different club

I agree, with the posts not all his buys have been from swansea, but half of them have and there's rumours of more swansea players being linked with us, ashley williams, why buy assaidi and not play him the same goes for yesil, maybe they are the players with potential just to sell on at an higher price after a few years, sturridge again I agree and couthino was most probs lucas recomendation, who the ex swansea player we are linked with who went to city, there's a pattern forming, swansea cast offs l.f.c.

let me ask you whos was and is there better players than joe allen and borini out there that we could have bought, I think there is, why go back for players he has coached and played at swansea . if i'm wrong and we don't buy any more swansea players I will hold my hand up and admit i'm wrong, this ashley williams is the same one who hates and slated suarez, saying he was the worst diver in the prem, he must not of seen gareth bale play, but if he come I can't see suarez staying and if BR had to chose he would go for ashley williams all day long

mickey b, {Ed001's Note - half his buys? You mean Allen is half the players we have bought? You have to be on the wind up, no one can be that stupid surely?}

30 Jan 2013 16:55:40
its an interesting one with the ashley williams transfer, he hates suarez, so if we do get him, then i'm afraid suarez's days are numbered, so if he come you know suarez will go, maybe not in the window but defo the summer

mickey b

Not even with bias can you pick ashley williams over one of the premier leagues top goalscorers and players.

A warm welcome to Philippe Coutinho! Good job by the powers-that-be for making it happen.

I've no idea if he's going to light up Anfield but there is obviously a lot of talent there. Let's hope BR can bring the best out of him.

I, for one, am very excited to see him in action. Hope he turns into our long term #10.

28yr old Samba from Anzhi to Liverpool for £5million
20yr old Mirin from Valenciennes to Liverpool £5 million
25yr old Diakite from Lazio to Liverpool for £1.5 million

Which one do the Eds think would help our midfield the most, and who are we most likely to sign?, Is there a high chance one of these players may join tommorrow? Personally i'd choose Samba, by far the most experienced for the prem.

You do know that Samba and Mirin are defenders, not midfielders.

Which defender would help our midfield the most? I think a midfielder would help ours the most

Assuming we send a couple more players out on loan I'd say 4 players in would make our squad look very strong for the rest of the season.

Strong Midfielder (e.g.Flamini),
Defender (e.g.Diakite),
Winger (e.g.Ince),
Loan Forward (e.g.Zarate).

What do you think are the chances of us actually getting 4 more in? How many would you expect?

Thanks a lot
RedKev

I expect 10

but then again perhaps, perhaps, perhaps none

You want 6 players in a Jan transfer window. Seriously?

Zero and none

You do realise it's deadline day tomorrow? And you think that we will not only send some players out on loan, but do three deals with two Italian clubs AND a then a fourth with a certain Mr. Oyston, in just over 24 hours? Can I have some of what you're taking please?

This was a rumour type question for the Eds, sorry. {Ed002's Note - There is no chance of four more players arriving tomorrow - zip.}

There MAYBE one more last minute signing. I wouldn't hold you breath for four more haha some people are mad!

Whooo people. I didn't say I expected 4 more. All I said was that our squad would be practically complete with 4 players in those positions. Obviously we're not going to spend much more money so I mentioned either cheap or loan players as possibilities. I understand my question was not clear enough, I will rephrase it.

30 Jan 2013 15:48:24
If we are to buy a new centre back I'd prefer us to wait until the summer.

My preferred choices would be either Hummells or Subotic. I know this would be a long shot but I would at least want the club to look at the higher quality of player rather than the potentially good calibre.

Either of these players would play well alongside Agger. I know there would be massive competition for either of these, and if they were even interested in moving. Theres a huge list of other great centre halfs who we could go for but the above two, would be my preferred choices.

Who would everyone else preferred two choices be?

Jonesred

Ogbonna or Badstuber. Varane for backup.

30 Jan 2013 15:34:37
hi eds, great work

Why do you think Rodgers is allowed to follow this flawed system of total football when is evident we do not have the players capable of playing such a style. Chances are we will be outplayed by Arsenal tonight, out muscled by any team with an aggressive midfielder and centre forward to match. Is it not time somebody at the club took the bull by the horns and said enough is enough. Rodgers might do a good job at youth level developing the style of play he likes if that suits the club as a whole but I fear we need an experienced coach to get the best out the current crop. On a side note what is Dario Gradi doing at the moment and Roy Evans.

Thanks

Please tell me this isn't a serious post?

It's called a building process, over-time Rodgers will build and compile a team capable of playing this "flawed system" hence why Coutinho has been signed, so how about for once you get behind the team you miserable git.

Plymouth Red.

We will win if we attack them they are programmed to push forward so there defensive play is not as good as their attacking play same as man united attack their defence and their game plan has to be ripped up .

Genius! You've struck gold here, mate. Anyone that wants to be a top team should only ever hire a manager that fits the players currently at the club. Brilliant!

Of course it'll get a little tricky when we all jump up and down screaming for him to buy new players as he'll have to keep one eye on who the next manager is going to be.

SpudRed

I'm sure we're 4th in the form league and I'm sure the players we've signed address our two main problems - goals & creativity. Add to that we've successfully offloaded players who arent our future I can't see why your moaning,

30 Jan 2013 15:33:19
Do you think BR will start Carra alongside Agger again tonight after not playing him against Oldham, or will Skyrtle be back in?

Skrtel Agger. Has to be.

AZ

I expect the back four to be

Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique

30 Jan 2013 15:32:14
Hi! EDS: and fellow Reds what do you think the chances are of us playing 3 centre backs tonight with Johnson and Enrique(if fit ) making it 5 at the back with 2 holding midfielders in front.
Johnson and Enrique's are both at their best when pushing forward when we have good possession.
The 3 centre backs and covering midfielders would give us good insurance against counter attacks (when Arsenal are at their most dangerous)
Keep it tight with our 2 classy fullbacks always ready to support the attack and sooner or later Suarez, Stevie or Sturridge will do the damage.

Going into the game tonight, I think one think missing on the pitch is a bit of passion from the players. And I don't think we are going to get much from Emerites without it. BR just does not seem to get the players going for some reason, that bit of fight, that bit of fire always seems to be missing. Or is ticky tacker football played with the brain and not the heart? You can't play football with out passion, IMO.

Barcelona & Spain do not lack passion

I think Martin Skrtel has been one of our better and most consistent players over the past couple of seasons. Having seen almost every game some of the criticism appearing in the forum seems unwarranted.

For my tuppence worth I'd be surprised if BR considers replacing him.

Yeah agree and didn't he recently extend or sign a new contract?

Completely agree with you, I just believe he's off form recently, just made a few mistakes but nevertheless brilliant player very very consistent. I don't think he's as comfortable on the ball as Agger but them 2 together have been really solid for us before.

MoMo

MArtin did sign a new contract recently and he has been one of our best defenders over the last few years mind that would not be hard!

Martin is a steady player not the best but adequate in most areas.

The abuse about him on this site is totally undeserved but then again Kenny and Stevie get lashed here quite regularly so what can one expect?

30 Jan 2013 14:58:59
gotta feeling JC will play tonight. TEAM might look something like this; Reina, Johnson, Carra, Agger, Enrique, Lucas, Stevie, Hendo, Downing, Suarez, Sturridge, subs jones, skyrtle, wisdom, allen, sterling, jonjo, suso. Not sure bout carra with pace of arsenal attack but I think we need his organisation, positioning to be honest. Well that's just my take on it, feel free to comment, YNWA Simonpw

Carra up against possibly the quickest strike force in the league, I hope not

I think Borini will def be in the squad...likely wisdom will miss out.

I would happy with that team later.

I'll be watching Jim White get all excited tomorrow as usual, but I hold out no hope of LFC being involved in the hectic final throes of deadline day.

We'll have Coutinho done by early tomorrow, and BR and Ayre will have their feet up with a cigar on.

I'd love us to move for another DM but I just don't see it.

We seem committed to a 4-2-4 formation with all the forwards we now have available. :-)

It would be nice to see us carry out some last minute dealings just to make tomorrow more interesting but I'm not holding my breath.

1970Red

We seem committed to a 4-2-4, why exactly? Because we tried it once against Oldham? Seriously?

SpudRed

Maybe its a 4-2-4-0 formation? The famous 'ghost 9' ?

Borini, Luis, Sturridge and Shelvey also maybe Coutinho could play across the front interchanging (is that a word?) making deep runs which would cause havoc for any defence...who do you pick up?

30 Jan 2013 14:45:00
have to say love the Liverpool fans on here they are all going mad with hendo- allen -shelvey-all young players that played every game for there clubs before they came to Liverpool yet they are all rubbish players for Liverpool not Liverpool standerd yet Coutinho dose not get a game for his team and he's the best thing since slice bread + not a lot of them liked Sturridge because he's english aswell what's the story with some of use

In an earlier banter post, one of the eds mentioned that if Lucas and Gerrard arent playing we can get bullied by more physical teams.

Does anyone else think that maybe Carragher would be better suited than Allen or Henderson if the above two are missing in the DM role.

Do any of the Eds have an opinion?

Just trying to start a debate here. {Ed001's Note - I agree with that, I think he would be much better suited to sitting in front of the back four and protecting them than anyone else we have.}

Yes, that's a great idea, Henderson although he is one of the best in the league for closing players down, I feel he is much better in a more attacking role. Carragher as cover for DM? Good thinking!
TedRed.

Slow and can't pass, yeah brilliant! Legendary centre back for a great club but he is no dm.

Id have to disagree with that, when carra has played that position before, he did ok, but all his passes went sideways, when lucas breaks up play his head is up and usually gets the ball forward

He has done it once or twice under br when we are seeing out the game

x

Hasn't he played there for England on occasion? Could be mistaken though.

RobInRed

Isnt all this "we're too soft" nonsense a complete over-reaction? Two teams, Stoke & Oldham, have bullied us all season. We've played 37 games in all. Our main problem is creating and converting chances. Weve signed Sturridge (3 in 4) and Coutinho (once dubbed the next Ronaldinho).
We play good football and we have a young and evolving team. We are not going to sign Chris Samba, Mohamed Diame or any other "big lad" because they might help us avoid defeat against a handful of teams.

PieInTheSkyMan

I watched Wisdom, play some games for the reserves at DM and he did ok, Lets stick with the youth and leave Carragher in the past, as he's sucking in air warming up these days

30 Jan 2013 14:03:48
Fernando Amorebieta is a free transfer in the summer. Any reason we've not made a move? He was linked before.

One thing Eds, could you clear up if you know the answer.

BR plays a Spanish style, schools at Barca and is fluent in Spanish. LFC has a strong Spanish link, with big sucess stories of Reina, Alonso, Torres as well as some good but not great players, Reira, Barragan

Swansea are picking up good cheap players from Spain, so they have some available in that league

Question is it seems obvious with LFC recent history (shows Spanish can settle in Liverpool) BR style and passion of Spainish system/play/culture....Why are we not seeing ANY moves for Spainish players ? {Ed001's Note - because the right players are not available.}

30 Jan 2013 14:01:14
From a angry LFC fan us fans no wat we need so why can't the owners see it I mean there's a lot of quality out there on 6 months left on there contracts I understand we can sign every 1 we should try to get a holding midfielder like diame 3.5million a bargain we also need quality on the wings I think we have missed a trick this window AGAIN don't get me wrong our youth is and will be quality in 2/3 years but we need for now JON96 YNWA

Brendan Rodgers picks transfers not the owners. They've provided funds for who Brendan wants when reasonable. The owners already splashed 20 mill this window spoilt little *person*

Cannot believe the negativity toward Jordan Henderson on this site, have you been watching Liverpool play lately? he has been quality!

Also fair play to Downing his displays on the pitch as of late have been of a much higher level than he has shown previously.

Just goes to show what a bit of confidence does to a player and his performances, and as supporters its up to us to give players a boost in confidence.

friendly gooner here.

the game's barely hours away and I just wanted to wish you lot a good game tonight. a win here means more to both our clubs than most derby fixtures because it's crunch time today.

for us, it'll mean a last bastion of hope that we can push for fourth place, for you it's for credibility and not being a "mediocre mid-table club" as some choose to mock you.
we're both kinda in the same ship, with having to deal with sensible, albet limited investments coming it, lack of depth in resources, a shaky, unpredictable team, and fans that have more mood swings than a pregnant cow.

i just hope we get a cracking game and let the better side walk away with all three points.

Well said, there are a lot of similarities between the 2 clubs and the expectations of both sets of supporters are higher than what we are getting right now, but you are right whoever losses can kiss goodnight to that 4th place!. Jir63

Great post. Agree 100%. Good luck man, think it will be a great game tonight.

I will be watching it with me bestie who is also a gooner =D

Noshbag

What are you talking about?
For us it also means a chance of finishing 4th

The fact that it's basically one great big shout out for 4th place was implied there. I mentioned it differently because Arsenal's just getting type-casted now as the team who fill in the last slot by default and don't care for much else and this is our last chance to do so this season (unless the spuds and toffees make a royal mess of it) but for Liverpool, it's more than just 4th now. I think the clubs gotten a fair bit of stick for early on in the season and the Oldham loss means that the jokers want to keep pouring on. I would it means more than just three points here, but hey, what do I know?

glad to feel the love. enjoy the game.

Hai ed..great site..and good work..

Countinho + Joe allen.
9mil + 18 mill

Jovetic 20mill..

should ahve signed this kid...what a cracking player he is...
lucas and gerrard as perfect in Midfield..nd Jovetic behind suarez and sturridge...

We missed a sitter......

If only it was that simple!

Another Fifa happy "fan". Getting bored of them now...

RedSpud

Clearly you know something our management and board don't. Perhaps you should apply, knowing the ins and outs of all completed and 'proposed' transfers. So you should apply for a role. I think there is an opening for a 'Head Scout for FIFA PS3 version', the Xbox guys already got his foot in. Sorry "/

Redfellar

Yeah, Stevan Jovetic is a quality player and would love to have him. But I don't think £20m will get him as Fiorentina don't want or need to sell. Man Citeh are interested in him, so the wages go up immediately to obscene levels as well as the price. I know Wenger wants him at Arsenal as well.

We, unfortunately, have to be realistic about who is and is not a viable target.

Lets get Daniele De Rossi as well, while we are wish listing from the Italian market.

The problem with one wonder signing as opposed to those two (good) players you have mentioned is what happens if Jovetic gets an injury or loss of form?

1. Because we didn't want him
2. He's so cheap because he's in the last year of his contract
3. It's Levy and he's certainly no genius

RedSpud

Daniel Levy is a slime. At best. I'd rather Coutinho. Holtby isn't reallty "all that". He's the German U21 Captain... great... well Hendo is Englands.

Spurs have paid more money to bring Holtby in during the transfer window instead of the Summer, which is why Spurs are entertaining offers for Huddlestone.

His contract is running out and he's an Everton fan, maybe he couldn't bring himself to wear the red whilst being a blue underneath?

Who knows?

They finished 4th and are probably better than us right now?
Les

The buzzword on here at the moment is { Lightweight } So I don't think he'll be any good he's too little:):)

kidmillions

Apparently Steffen Freund persuaded him as they have worked together before.

How do you know we were in for Holtby?

Hans

Did we have any interest in him if not its wouldn't have been hard to convince a player to move to them over us if we had no interest

Hi just wanted to say why it takes Liverpool so long to get player in transfer window other clubs see a player they go and buy it job done lfc drag it on so long and someone else comes in and takes the player.

Forgive me, but didn't we sign Daniel Sturridge in the first few days of the January window? That's hardly dragging things out if you ask me.

We got Sturridge nice and early, didn't we!?

Coutinho is a complex transfer, it involves the home office. Now, that takes a chunk of time to get them to stop drinking their port and eating their cheese and sort out some filing and paperwork.

You could say, ''it's politics''. Be reasonable, the lad is Brazilian and he hasn't played much for Inter and hasn't played for Brazil since 2010. This deal was never going to be plain sailing.

Hi eds, I was wondering why Luis Suarez tapes his hand and whist up is there any reason that you know off?

Cheers:) {Ed001's Note - he had an injury, not sure he still needs it now though, I think it is more about superstition now.}

Michel Bastos signs for Schalke on an 18 month loan with option to buy, isn't this just the deal Liverpool should be looking at to get us through to the summer?

Pretty upset - just found out I'm sitting in deepest Gooner territory at Emirates for tonights game. Also been told there's a bunch of mouthy kids sitting in front of me. Already bad enough that I can't wear club colours. Now I can't even cheer the lads on.

Still better than sitting at home ;-) Hoping for a big response from the players tonight. Come on You Reds !

Sing loud and proud brother, you'll most likely never see these people again, so.... who cares?

Hope you have a great night and that we get the win.

30 Jan 2013 12:12:02
f Allen form doesn't pick up, any chance of a bid for cabaye in the summer?

I know from a very good Geordie friend that Cabaye is very happy at Ncle, he has had a big influence on the French signings and has now got his best friend Debuchy there. He is also going to be made captain with Colochinni leaving in the summer. Anyway they would want around £30m for him.

30 Jan 2013 12:09:17
Hey Ed001, how're you today mate?

Just out of interest, in terms of realistic targets, who else would you like to see at Liverpool thsi January

Apples ;96; {Ed001's Note - not sure, it is very difficult to gauge realistic targets mate. The players I would have liked us to add are Gary Medel and Keisuke Honda, plus a keeper, left back and centre back, if possible. Not sure who I would go for though, I haven't been really looking this season.}

Other than count I doubt we will sign anyone else as we would have heard in the media.

I won't mind as at least the club has another striker which is what we needed.

The new young lad will need tie to settle.

Honda is brilliant, I would like us to look at a cheaper option, but no means less talented, takashi inui, he plays for frankfurt, brilliant little player

30 Jan 2013 12:07:11
I think Christisn Benteke would be a brilliant sighning. Only 22 years old. Will cost about 10m and with Aston villa in bad shape he would relish the move. What do we think?

He has a terrible shot and is rubish at heading, takes about 20 attempts to score!

R

I read that Villa will want around £18 million for Bentenke.

Must have missed 19 chances prior to scoring against us.

I've just looked at profile of David Syers from DRFC, so as he looks like a pretty smart lad and promising footballer even if he is 25 years old, think he could be revelation for Premier league and LFC... I have some feeling he could easily adapt and had a quick progress due to his good physical and intellectual attributes... {Ed001's Note - your first name wouldn't happen to be David would it Mr Syers?}

Course not Ed, it's obviously Paul - David's dad.

For the first time in many, many years I'm so unexcited about potential signings and most of the time unexcited about even watching Liverpool play. It's like watching an academy game every time. Apart from the obvious few MEN, the team is far too lightweight and the manager is not ready for this job at all. Decent coach, very average manager. I'm NOT saying bring him back, but Kenny's last season in charge is starting to look pretty good now eh!?

Kenny's last season in charge is starting to look pretty good now eh!?
----------------------------------

Let me think about this ..... No

Best way to relieve your boredom at watching the team you supposedly support..... Don't watch them, go and support someone else and leave us real fans to it. Bye. What an person.

The captain

Er, no, kenny made some of the worst signings in history last year, adam downing, carroll though we do need a physical presence in the middle of the park, and a strong mobile central defender. would be happy with williams and diame coming in but don't see it happening

You are completely mental. Those 18 months under Kenny made proper fans of the club dread watching games. You saying you actually enjoyed the FA Cup Final? Even forgetting the defeat the performance was atrocious. Catch yourself on.

The fact that this even has three agrees at the time I'm typing this is a serious concern about Liverpool's fanbase.

It's funny how your 'opinion' coincides with the exact profile from Sunday's game. It's almost like you have sat back, waited for a general opinion to form & then you have constructed an imflamatary paragraph designed to iritate. You can't even be bothered to sign it either...

dd

I bet your the partly the reason Anfield's gotten quiter. Shush up.

Redfellar

We lost 14 games under Kenny in the league last season. Fell off a cliff from Feb & without the early season points would have been flirting with relegation. And the football was awful. And I'm a big fan of the King and all he's done for my club. We are now repairing the damage and starting the long slow climb back to at least challanging for the title.

Prediction for Arsenal game: BR stays with Allen in midfield and starts Sterling on the wing. In my opinion these are both mistakes. I suspect he will think that since Arsenal like to play football and not be aggressive then these players will do well. Personally, I think they are both in poor form, and will be liabilities. I am not saying that they aren't good players, just that now they should be watching from the sidelines.

Midfield: Gerrard Lucas Hendo

Front: Suarez Sturridge Downing

Canada Red

Sorry but I would not have Henderson anywhere near the first team, only my opinion.

Don't want to see downing play, no heart

30 Jan 2013 12:53:56
Agreed, if Enriques fit him and Johnson to slot in at full back, and maybe Carragher at Centre back with Agger, his experience will be vital in the next 2 games!

WelshBoyDave

Agree with the middle, but I would have Borini with Suarez and Sturridge to start. Borini will not get match sharp without game time. RED LENIN

Nice read something that some one has thought about. Totally agree with you. Allen and Stirling are good players but there form is not great. Rodgers is def the right man. As Rodgers said he will pick on form and not age. That is the team that is in the best form. So should start with them.

Eds any news on countinho meeting with the fa. It is today isn't it.

KUMBER {Ed001's Note - what meeting are you referring to? If you mean his work permit hearing, that is not for the FA to decide and that is today, but may need to go to appeal.}

I think its easy to sit on the armchair and say this and that about players form. maybe some players need to play on and get through the bad form they are showing maybe they have personal issues imo allen is a cracking player this will be the case again sterling jose can really get at them arsenal full backs c"mon the reds Y.N.W.A.Tommy Irish Red

He won't play Allen or Sterling from start. He will play the Midfield and Front pairings you have listed.

Same lineup I d go with canada

but I think you are right and allen will start

tom1975

That would be my front 6 too.
Henderson improving, with Lucas and Henderson working hard in the middle it allows SG to have more of an impact in the game.

30 Jan 2013 11:24:06
ed..is it wise to buy a suarez kit now?
i mean come 6 months and if he leaves...
i would be embarassed....
cant trust...the only kit which can be bought anyday day is off gerrard... {Ed001's Note - I never buy a kit with a player's name on it.}

It is wise..

I seem to have a good knack for choosing players to put on kits, all my choices have become legends (never got Torres, for example, but have Alonso and Agger). My sense with Suarez is it's best to leave it.

Whatever happens a Suarez shirt is well worth it.

30 Jan 2013 11:23:14

30 Jan 2013 10:23:03
Is there any chance of sinclair moving to another pl side? or has he played for two teams and therefore not allowed to play for another this season

30 Jan 2013 10:21:14
Eds how do you rate Sissoko ? I thought this player would of been great in our midfield because like Macca said we struggle against physical teams. Obviously we're not going to get him because he moved to Newcastle but do you recon he would of been good?

Londonred {Ed001's Note - he has been poor for the last couple of years, it would have been a huge risk. Personally I think he has made the right move for his career. I am glad we didn't move for him.}

I watched the Villa v Ncle game last night and Sissoko was immense, especially first half. He has a good engine, can tackle, beat a man and is not afraid to shoot - just the type of player we need in midfield - we have missed out on him big style at a price of £1.8m.

30 Jan 2013 10:16:59
hope they sort ince out and don't put all they eggs in 1 basket ie like dempsey and end with nowt. any idea on loan player

We have already added coutinho and sturridge.. put the money away until the summer.. in the summer we will let spearing carrol and coates go.. i'm sure a few others may go too

End with nowt, so Sturridge and coutihno don't count ??.

30 Jan 2013 10:11:39
hi eds, I know this isn't a rumour, just gettin it off my chest. Liverpool are in desperate need of a holding midfielder, someone like macherano. We can get bullied in midfield, it's happend a few times this season. Knowone wants to kick the oppostion back (execept SG) its all too lightweight. The opposition arent scared to play against us. Saying that I think we'll win tonight. {Ed001's Note - Lucas and Gerrard are fine at that, it is when they are missing we get bullied.}

I think Henderson is also more than capable

30 Jan 2013 10:06:19
While I am happy we signed Sturridge early in window, we certainly haven't "done all the business early" as BR originally suggested. Or perhaps the business is all done?

30 Jan 2013 09:59:56
Whats getting up my nose is that hardly anyone mentioned that we were soft in the center of the team until Sunday and now everyones having a moan saying why hasn't he brought a powerful midfielder. Yet previously whenever we mentioned signing another midfielder everyone moaned that we were signing to many midfielders and not strikers etc

Previously everyone said what a player Allen was, just what we need etc and now he's hit a bad patch of form and suddenly he's paper thin, useless etc etc.

Remember form is temporary, class is permanant.

In my eyes I do believe we need a strong midfielder, but we have had other priorities in the transfer market e.g. goal scorer, creative midfielder to unlock stubborn defences.

Maybe we are looking for such a midfielder but just because it hasn't been splashed across the net or papers doesn't mean we aren't looking, or maybe we arn't and he has seen such a player in the reserves who knows. Or maybe he doesn't see it as a problem or he does see the problem but is trying to solve it with the player we have.

But I do believe that we are going in the right direction and if we can add a bit of steel in center mid and center defence now/in the summer I think we have enough talent in the final third now, to unlock most defences.

Sorry for the long post, I tend to go on and on and on and on...........sorry.

SA

Exactly mate.
I was saying yesterday, this has all happened before. We had a lovely slick footballing side in the mid 90's. Then it was decided we needed more bite and the side was slowly turned upside down.
And remember even more recently when Mo Sissoko was brought in to toughen things up. Then a year or two later he was ditched because he couldn't pass the ball properly in favour of a better footballer - Xabi Alonso.
I hope Brendan takes no ****ing notice and sticks to his guns.
Of course, if you can get a ball playing hard man type (Souness, McMahon, Keane, Viera) then fine. But guys of that quality are few and far between.
The Juicer

I think our midfield is fine, our defence is fine. We have enough strikers. What we need is a couple of good wingers who can score goals. I rate Sterling but he should not be the best winger we have. Downing is not doing too bad lately, so if we could bring in one quality winger before the window shuts as well as coutinho, I will be happy!

Ed001 you're one awesome Liverpool fan! Proud to say Y.N.W.A!

Numbers had much more relevance back in the day, GK were always number 1, not anymore. Used to be Ikr fashioned number 9, now it is irrelevant. It isn't about the number but what you do in the pitch to make the number important. Carra 23 etc

30 Jan 2013 08:56:57
Eds, or anyone with any info on this, could you please help me, as I don't know anywhere else I can turn.
basically, I setup and run a new football team this season, in my local leagues. during the season we had a big over haul of players, and we had gone from losses and draws, to winning comftably. during said transition, we played a player not signed on, and we held our hands up to a 50pound fine.
Now every week we win, the league body are getting false claims from teams, so they keep accusing us of illegal players, which isn't true.
It just feels like harrassment from the league body, with non stop emails, phone calls, fines etc, and it seems I can do nothing about it because what they say goes. its more of a "guilty till proven innocent" instead of the court of law way. they are dragging me out of town monday night to a meeting where I have to defend playing a player who wasnt signed on apparently....yet they are wrong, and have no evidence! but still feel they will just fine us.
some of the eds would have a much bigger clue than me to what I can do, is there some organisation I can turn too, above my towns district league? somewhere I can make a complaint too? please help with any info you have cause i'm losing hope. I see why grass roots football is on a decline..
Benny baller {Ed001's Note - I am afraid that you will have to speak to the FA, they should have a local grass roots rep in your area. They are the ones above the league you play in. Not sure how much use they will be though.}

Benny, you have kind of made a rod for your own back but if what you are saying is true you should request that I.D cards are made by your league when players are registrated. This allows both managers (if they want) to check the other squad players (Photo I.D). Any problems the referee can be asked to be 'independent' and view the issue.

This will stop or damage the retrospective complaints, in essence safeguarding you to a degree.

If this is already in place (you should have no case to answer) or they refuse to do this then make sure after your meeting on Monday you write to them (it is important).

Your letter should set out your problem, how you would like it resolved, what has been said to you (letter changes it from hearsay unless they challenge it) and what was said in the meeting.

This then gives your problem a stand point (not just their view). If it cannot be resolved at this point you may have a case to complain to your local FA (or if it is them) the FA regarding victimisation. Just make sure you get as much in writing as possible and if you are not happy write to them expressing why ( always in a reasonable manner) it might be a pain but it should help you resolve it (no one likes their desk being filled up with paperwork).

30 Jan 2013 15:30:48
Thank you. Yeah we have a card system in place, and since our first disciplinary about when we did break the rules, we have requested each team to show their cards.
I just don't see how its fair they can drag me out of town on a monday night, and not cover travel expenses. Yet if we want to appeal a decision, we have to pay 25-50 pounds to acquire their time.
I'm a grand down from the original setup, yet they make my job so much harder.
Also the board are made up of some of the teams managers which I also find disturbing. What can you do eh?

30 Jan 2013 08:42:57
Lets be honest I back BR but he needs to win games against the big clubs tonight and Sunday we have to get some points! A win tonight puts us level on points with Arsenal that would be a massive boost for the players and the fans. If we loose again we will find 6 points hard to claw back from Arsenal. Also if we loose today and Sunday we will not make top 4 in my eyes. Arsenal could be 9 points ahead by next Monday and with spurs looking good and the small club down the road I think we are all fighting for one spot tonight is vital for our season.

30 Jan 2013 08:36:53
I think Zarate on loan and Coates exit from the club will be the priority business for LFC in the next 24 hours.
I was spot on with Sturridge and Courtinho at least 48hrs before those deals were confirmed...... Although I am less certain of Zarate but I am happy to wager 70/30 chance (in favour of him not joining) at this time, still a chance!

What you think Ed's? {Ed001's Note - if we sign, and play, Zarate, then we can forget European footie next season. He is not good enough.}

Zarate is not good enough ed ?' he is far better then Borini. {Ed001's Note - no he is not, Zarate can't cope in Italian footie. Have you ever watched him play? He has one flash of skill in a match and then wastes possession for the rest of it.}

this is going to be a very interesting end tothe season

it has gotten very tight down at the bottom with qpr closing he gap to 4 points. I think we are going to see some surprising results before the end

norwich looks like they could get sucked back down into the mire very easily.i expect improvements from newcastle and sunderland but fully think any oneof norwich fulham saints wigan villa reading and qpr could go down.

at the top united look strongand can't see them slipping up like last year.city will be secondand then it gets interesting... stamford bridge could easily implode, spurs however are looking strong.i mexpecting a late run at fourth from arsenal and Liverpool.i feelthe trio of arsenal Liverpooland everton will just comeup short though with very few points seperating them in 5th 6th and 7th.

this is my guess anyway....huge game tonight....hoping for a backlash from the lads to go to the emirates and snatch three points

If we start with Sterling tonight I can almost guarantee that we will lose, the boy is a liability and a passenger and one of the worst players we have on our books.

Mate.. he is a kid and a very good one at that.. has he played too much this season? yes and he has suffered as a result.. will he be a future star? yes he will

Suarez-sturridge-downing

cant see raheem starting

Liability? Give the kid a break! What is he? 17 years old? He deserves a rest that I agree, he has been overused at such a tenderly age. But no doubt he will be a star!

Chaki

Wow, that didn't take long. A few weeks ago he was the Messiah, now he's a liability.

I think the lad has got a bit complacant and lost a bit of form, but he is a youngster for goodness sake give him time. It makes me sick how some so called fans turn on players after a bad spell.

Remember form is termporary, class is permanant.

SA

Well said. One of the worst along with Henderson, Robinson, Allen, Borini, Downing and definately Allen.

He is 18 years old. You are a disgrace of a fan.

At the moment he does not offer anything to team! He needs to learn from the bench from now on
Kp

Hes young and he's very small. The prem was always going to be tough for him to adjust to. Needs to be rested now and brought on in games. Liverpool will definatley be looking to build him up as they did with lucas. Hel have a lot of weight training sessions scheduled and that should hopefully help him adapt to the physical side of the game.

Butland for £3 million is a no brainer.

Now then Brendan before the few excuse merchants start saying rest of us, wise after event .And you start the wrong side/formation for what's required= (Oldham, Stoke, Villa, Man u) Arsenal are quick on the break with Giroud coming into form, supporting Walcott through the middle.Often arriving late in the box either side of Walcott Particularily on the break. We all know Arsenal ain't over physical, except maybe Wiltshire. So lets see a side capable of dealing with their pace on the break-both personnel wise AND formation wise. I hope and pretty sure we'll get a reaction tonight.Get start, side right (for once) rather then chasing earlier mistakes, and we can win this. Fancy us to at least not get beat-2-2 or maybe even sneak it. COME ON BOYS lets go for it now.IN Leauge and Uefa-not much LEFT to lose!

Wiltshire physical? Are you having a laugh. He suffers from small man syndrome. Goes around the pitch like a hard man but as soon as any sort of challenge is made on him he goes down like a sack of as spuds. A younger gerrard would destroy him.

If Reina wants Barca in January or Summer, surely - we should try and get Julio Cesar from QPR, immense keeper and would add to our little brazilian chemistry; Lucas & Coutinho (fingers crossed) along with the other south americans.

REDjav95

Cesar has been a liability for QPR up until a fortnight ago.

He would have very large wage demand.. I think we should look for a prem proven keeper as we have seen what happened with United.. I understand that foreign players tend to be better value for money but with keepers they can be a big risk..

He is on 170k p/w according to certain media, would we pay this for a 33 year old come the end of the season? I think not, we should get Ter Stegen instead.

If Suarez does move to Bayern Munich or anywhere else then Liverpool should set the fee at a minimum of £50m but looking to get around £60m, as Torres went for £50m, and Suarez is a better player around, creates chance for his team mates, scores goals for both Club & Country unlike most good forwards these days and also has had a brilliant season so far.

V need to be signing more physical players. V lack strength which is the main attribute in premier league. Bringing in Coutinho wil be gud because he has pace, skill, technique and creativity. But v need a physically strong, experienced defender and a midfielder, while Rodgers mentioned it. Rodgers hopes to bring atleast one are two players other than Coutinho.

Why are you writing in a German accent?

V find it difficult to take your posts seriously as V don't know what 'V' means

How much pi**ing harder is it to write WE instead of V ? ....And GOOD is only one letter more than GUD !!

Coutinho is not the player we think he is. Inter don't get rid of good young talent - they WANT rid of him and we are willing to pay £8.5m. He was on loan all last season to Espanyol and has rarely figured in the first team at Inter this year. And, by the way, has Rodgers actually been over to see him play? I don't think so.

V all wish you would type We its only an extra letter!

I thought it was a funny post. Vell done poster.

For a classy player to retire takes an instant. For a classy player to develop into Xavi Hernandez or indeed Steven Gerrard takes quite a long time. who's to say the player is even born yet? Steven Gerrard is nearing the end of his career. To find a replacement that has the same impact he's had over the years will take some time. It may not even happen! Yes there are and have been better midfielders than Stevie. But can we say with any certainty that these other players would do for LFC, what Stevie has done for this club.
It's not only about the induvidual player. It's about where he fits into the team, where other players fit in, the style of play, the style of player needed and of course, Whether there is chemistry with the club and of course, whether this player was born at the right time.

Xavi, Pirlo and Iniesta. arguably the three best midfielders on the planet. Would they be able to match their world cup and champions league winning exploits with Liverpool. Maybe, maybe not. They may never have turned into the players they are, had they played for us. Likewise, SG may never have reached his true potential outside of this club.

My very long-winded point is this. Trust the staff of this club to choose the players that will shine AT LIVERPOOL FC. not your generic, dime-a-dozen "star" players that may or may not fire here.

Above all. Have some faith in the universe. The odds that a player like Xavi plays at Barca at this point in time and the odds of Stevie playing for Liverpool when he suits the situation are extremely long odds. It's not always a matter of the right transfers being made. It's more a matter of a certain man, being born on a certain day. A certain man sustaining an injury and becoming a manager. A certain scout witnessing a certain pass that may have been made because an opposition defender missed a match through suspension. A certain man watching a certain player on TV and deciding to play football.

There are so many factors, so many hiccups and miracles that can come in to play when these once in a lifetime things happen. In football, it just happens to be those "once in a blue moon" players and managers.
Surely, all we can do is do our best to support our club until the next one of these miracles comes about. Not try to find somebody to blame for the lack of these factors coinciding and giving us another player, perfectly fitted to our cause.

The amount of kids playing football. The amount of them that turn professional. The amount that have the talent to become international quality. The amount that become world class. THEN. Out of those few. Who plays a certain way? Who fits a certain style? Who bonds with team-mates? The list is forever being narrowed down to a point where nobody fits the bill. We await the next generation... we hope...

If we want to blame somebody for not having these players. You could blame a parent for encouraging music. You could blame a see-saw manufacturer for breaking a kids leg at 4 years old. You could blame a local council for having terrible sporting facilities. But that'd all be a little silly, wouldn't it? Sometimes it's nobody's fault. Sometimes you need to sit back, support your team in trying to unearth these players... and wait...

Red7.

Agreed. A little intense but I still agree.

A good read Red7

When Stevie started to appear for the first team you could see straight away he had something about him. He played at RB to start with if I remember right and you knew he would be class. Chased everything down, ran as if being chased by the devil, had the confidence to play the dangerous pass....

Best post I've ever read on here.

Christian Eriksen is the man to replace.. We don't need to go like for like.. He would be a real gem if we could get him

And he only threatened to leave twice

Expect Liverpool to put a late bid for a defender loan or transfer. Liverpool needs a new cb.

"The Oldham game actually makes decisions going forward much easier for me. We've got some good young players, but they're not that good. I don't have a young player here like Steven Gerrard when he was 18 or 19, or Jamie Carragher." BR
Harsh harsh words from BR, what do you think ? Reality check for the reserves or trying to poke their egos ?

I think it was said more to motivate anybody going forward, but again can you honestly say we have anybody like that coming through? He was indeed very special.

Rk

Exactly what the youth needed - a kick up their back side.

they are talented and good players but need the kick to become great.

Look what Downing has transformed into after a kick.

mgz

I dunno which article you read but he never compared them in such a way he simply said that the youth of today are brought up in a different way to how carrager and gerrard were. That's not the same as comparing them to Steve and Jamie

I agree with him but I'm not sure about him saying it publicly.
A lot of our players have potential and aren't ready or are just not good enough. We can get away with playing one or two, depending on the oppostion, alongside our 'big' players but the problem is when the 'big' players don't play or don't perform. The young lads or shadow players don't really step up and take their chance and they just become passengers.
There isn't a youngster that I would really trust in a big game to make his mark, like Gerrard, Carra or Owen would.
Yet, anyway.
Rigsby.

30 Jan 2013 09:48:34
The biggest problem with the young lads is in their heads not so much their skill.
This will be a realty check for the youngsters, if thy want to make and ty at the best football club, pull your finger out and move yourselves.
Show us you want to play for the best football club in the world. If not, go and play some where else.

this talk of suarez joining city is probly a load of lies but some of the crap that Liverpool supporters are spouting is unbelivable
suarez is not worth more than £50 mill, he is not in the elite players.he is a great talent but last year shows he is not 1 of the best, his finishing is avarage at times and although he is having a great season I still don't rate him in the same bracket as messi, ronaldo, rvp, falcao etc
some of the players that the fans want to replace suarez if he does leave is also crazy villa, aguero, tevez, lewandoski, cavani, Liverpool would never be able to attract these type of players in the current position they find themselves.so if suarez does leave I think Liverpool are going to be in a lot of trouble as they won't be able to replace him as no1 as good as him will want to come to Liverpool and fight for a mid table position
Liverpool fans need to realise they are no longer a big club and that they're best players will leave when big clubs come in for them
dont hate on me now and start giving me abuse, its the truth so wake up to the facts and stop living off past glorys

angry red

Suarez is one of top 5 in the world and will get even better. Not messi or ronaldo level but he's right up there
Hop

Are you even a Liverpool fan? It seems like you believe that we won't ever achieve anything again. Yes we are currently mid table yes we have been for a couple of seasons. But that does not mean we won't be able to come back from it.

You should be call 'angry green'............with jealousy. Suarez is one of the top 5 players in the world at the moment.
The funniest bit about your post was where you slip RVP in between the worlds best - he's a very good striker but does not belong in that bracket - shows where your red allegiances lie

cozinoz

I'm all for people and their opinions but in my opinion Suarez is more valuable to LFC now than Torres was when we sold him to Chelsea for £50 million 2 years ago. Torres was 28 and out of form when we sold him, as well as being injury prone. Whereas Suarez is 25 and smashing the goals away and hasn't received any long term injury nor any reoccurring injury, which brings us nicely onto RVP.

RVP, who has been blighted by injury throughout his career, in fact he's only managed to play 30 Premier League games or more for Arsenal once out of his 8 seasons their, due to his injury problems. So, criticising Suarez's first full season at Liverpool, which ended with two finals at Wembley and a cup win is slightly rich when RVP at Arsenal didn't win a cup, beside the charity league pre-season exhibition match in his first season!

Also RVP only reached 20+ goals for Arsenal in three out of his eight seasons the first in in 08-09, then in 10-11 and during his last season in 11-12. So for five seasons he didn't reach the 20 goal mark.

Also, if we look at their careers side by side for games played and goals scored, it's quite interesting:
RVP has played a total of 382 games and scoring 175 goals.
Luis Suarez has played 313 games and scored 180 times and with 66 assists (i can't find RVP's assist record). Now we can compare the Premier League with the Dutch League and scoff all we like.

So let's look at Suarez since he's been at Liverpool, Suarez has played 84 times for Liverpool and scored 42 goals and created 21 assists. During this time RVP has had his best two seasons on record, to date. He has been tremendous scoring 37 goals for Arsenal last season and scoring 22 so far this season, (again I can't find his assists).

Both of their international careers are worthy of comparison as well, RVP has played 71 times for the Netherlands scoring 31 goals. Suarez has played 60 times for Uruguay scoring 30 goals. So I think these two players are very much in the same class and on the same footing. Also let's not forget that Suarez is 3 and a half years younger than RVP.

BoriniCanDoIt.

So players don't progress year to year? Oh... that's a little odd, isn't it?

Suarez is a better player now than Cavani, Aguero, Lewandowski and quite a large number of other "star" players. It's also a little silly to put Falcao and RVP in the same category as Ronaldo and even more ridiculous to put any of them in Messi's category! Just because their FIFA13 OVR's are all similar, doesn't mean they're really anywhere near each other as complete players. Barely any of the names you vomited could even be considered complete players! Luis is well and truly on his way, and not too far off being the complete footballer. His vision and mind-boggling passing this season has been second to none in the Premier League.

Last season? Why even mention it?

Red7.

For a start it seems to be two different top brackets of players; Messi and Ronaldo ... And then Falco RVP SUAREZ etc, if he isn't that good why do so many clubs seem to want him?

Also you say a lot of players would not want to come, but lets be honest IF the owners decide to go against their wages thing then we would be able to get a big name because unfortunatly football is so money based now! Look at players like Robhinio and Yaya Toure, why would they leave Milan and Barca (where they where starting players) to join City when City where not even in champs league yet, they joined at the very very start of the City regeneration. They clearly only joined due to money! So surly if we wanted to buy another big name to replace Surez we would be able to if we offered the right wages

I hope every one thinks Suarez is not that good and leaves him alone

Yeah, because Torres when we sold him was in the elite 5...

Shush up.

The Squirrel

I'm not sure that Suarez is one of the best 5 players in the world, I am convinced however that he is one of the top 5 strikers in the world, which I think is an mportant distinction to make.

In order to be one of the top 5 players in the world your all round game needs to be flawless and as much as I love Luis, there are significant defecits in his all round play, not least his temprament.

That said, i'd be gutted to see hm go, even at £50m or more

BR needs to get rid of young players who arent performing to their wages and price tag e.g. Jordan Henderson and Seb Coates were terrible on Sunday I think they need to drastically improve.
Our old midfield 8 Gerrard 14 Alonso and 20 Mascherano
Now Gerrard 8, Hendo 14, Shelvey 33/ Lucas

I rate all of these current players but they don't perform to LFC standards look at the old midfield how can we lose so much quality in such a short amount of time
YNWA

You may need to acquire some patience, as so the young players have the time to ''develop''. Constructive criticism is always welcomed, i'm a critic at the best of times, but being constructive allows for improvement, slating and slagging young players off and demanding that they be sold is knee jerk reactionary b.s. which is tiresome and dull.

I'd rather you changed your favourite football team than we sell the youth lads. Sure some of them won't make it, but i'd rather that was decided over a few seasons and a lot more matches than one F.A cup match against Oldham.

BoriniCanDoIt.

Coates skrtel jones borini all had nightmares, Robinson didn't exactly grab his chance with both hands but hendo was alright
Hop

Henderson played fine on Sunday. And he's played better than fine for the previous few matches

Rafa alienating star players that's how.

Robinson let himself down really badly

Got to hold your hands up, take it on the chin, learn from it and do better next time.

The Squirrel

It's not the defenders hus having a bad game its the midfield 1 thing I've notice its that wen Allen plays the defence its always on the pressure, so Allen its the biggest flop, and this guy its that much flop that make another player looks flop like hendo hu has started picking up, wy the hell he let aqua man goes and replace him wit Allen, this kind of moovment a good manager would never do forget about w class manager, this guy dosentve a clue hu to buy or sell, look bayern spent 30 millions in one player becouse this its the player they wanted and becouse of that that they are unstoppable on their league and that player was baines, or javi Martinez, and they got Martinez bowing he will cost 15 millions more than Baines, so in the summer we needed a finisher, and this guy instead of sorting out that position, he mess up our midfield. {Ed001's Note - Bayern Munich are one of the richest and more profitable clubs in the world, they can afford to pay extra. We make a loss, no matter how much you fantasists want us to spend ridiculous amounts, we simply can't. FSG are already covering huge losses.}

How can bayern be wery rich, if they don't even own their own stadium, its Munich council stadium, and they can't afford a big salary, bcouse their league its crap. That's wy dortmund coudnt holdon on kagawa, they cudnt match the salary that manpu was offering him, despite Dortmund havin 77000, council stadium. {Ed002's Note - Bayern Munich has assigned a very, very significant transfer fund for next season and have identified a list of prospective targets that has been agreed with their soon to be manager.}

We need to start feeling good about ourselves again, we must get a result against Arsenal.

A song for Coutinho

To the tune of Poor Leno by Royksopp,

(you know it even if you think you don't!)

Coutinho,
Where you from? Vasco
Score a cracking goal
Dribble on, Coutinho......

Haunting little melody, I don't know who picks out the tunes for players songs or if its just by chance after a loss, too many beers and an ear bashing from the wife?

Perhaps it's just my taste that is poor....anyway....

Big believer in showing support through thick and thin and a player must feel great to hear his name sang by the fans...maybe under performing players need the attention of (tuneful)vocal support instead of the keyboard bashing hating?

the studio awaits...

All good fun, cheers

Takk (Helen Hywater)

This is a good post. The support would do then well and can't understand why it doesn't happen

John Lennon Airport - the hub of world football. Everyone's spotted there. David Villa (300 odd times) Coutinho, Cavani, Torres, Raheem and Tom Ince were doing kick ups out there earlier apparently. God love this site.

I would take Zarate on a low fee in this window.

He's only 25 and he's not been happy at the club for ages. Could turn out to be a real bargain. I'd also like us to make a move for Fernando Gago. Wants out of his current club and we could get a loan to buy deal.

Would add some steel to the centre of the park, which we are crying out for. Could potentially get these two for as little as 10 million combined, and would add a wealth of experience the squad.

Attacking wise we would possess Sturridge, Coutinho, Suarez, Zarate, Borini and Sterling. All still 25 and under.

Jonesred

Zarate he's the pooh version of Lavezzi, at least in my opinion. But he's versatile and he's a trier. I don't think he'd cost more than £6 million to be honest but I don't think he's the top echelons of quality but certainly could be useful if he could gel into the system (becoming a cliche' but it's true enough).

He's not an out an out striker, as many think, he's more a winger, although he can play the striker role, sometimes. Pending wagers i'd take him on a loan, although he has been shipped about a lot so far in his career. I'd like to see him next to Suarez and Sturridge but personally I think once Borini clicks he'll be much better, for all his detractors I have genuine belief in that lad being a success.

BoriniCanDoIt.

Gago is so overrated he only looks good when he plays for arg, that's because the opposition puts their focus on messi, aguero, higuain, tevez etc

He's more like a winger who can't cross and a striker who can't finish. As for being someone who tries, I think Borini gets a lot of s*** for doing that from our own 'fans'
