Anyone else hoping for a Borini Balotelli start the weekend??

Believable28 Unbelievable2

Here's hoping my fellow Dezyboy, but I'm not sure BR will playnwith 2 up away to Newcastle.

Agree3 Disagree0

It is this type of stubborness that will b his biggest undoing. We have shown life in games where we played w/ 2 up BUT I`m afraid Borini will not get the strt w/ Balo at St James`. We can all see it BUT for some reason, BR refuses to take the risk.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sadly I agree but Rogees may surprise us borini at Sunderland last season Newcastle match to kick start his Liverpool career why not

Agree1 Disagree0

Read today's echo boys.

It looks like he will start.

Rodgers needs to realise we only started doing really well last season when we played 2 up front.
We need to start positive and get back to making teams fear us in that first 30 minutes like last year.

Did anyone see Aspas scored a hat trick last night, including a worldy? Fair play to him.

Believable12 Unbelievable0

31 Oct 2014 01:34:51
I still think he didn't get a fair shot; but how could he with Suarez and Sturridge in front? Aspas impressed me every time he got to play as a striker. On the wing he was pretty lost.

Well done lago that's his level I'm afraid not good enough for liverpool.

TIR

"that's his level"

La Liga

Playing for a top 6 team

Your attempts to put him down astound me

He didn't barely get a full game at Liverpool, i felt for the lad because he got stick for not being as good as Sturridge and Suarez

31 Oct 2014 10:00:31
The team he scored the hatrick against we're a second tier team in Spain.I have my oppinion you have yours I do not think he is good enough for liverpool if you do fair play to you.

Agree1 Disagree1

He is far far too lightweight for the premier league . I think that was shown in the games he played

I'm not saying I want Rodgers to be sacked but does the eds think that Gerrard could possibly be a candidate for the job ? Vast experience as a leader amd played for club and country in many competitions. Would love to see him as manager can just imagine him giving a bollocking to the team in the dressing room anytime there losing haha At least it would give him longer to get a premiership
Cheers eds

How many times do we have to tell delusional fans that hiring legends to do jobs they aren't:
1. Qualified to do
2. interested in doing

If we do it, we get people in who have good track records and is trained in the position they are assuming

Agree7 Disagree1

31 Oct 2014 00:19:17
For gods sake.

Yeah, let's replace a good manager who guided us to 2nd last year with a man (albeit great player) who has zero coaching and zero managerial experience.

Agree2 Disagree1

31 Oct 2014 03:58:29
There's a reason why Ed002 keeps berating fans on here who worship club legends who more than likely, are not suitable for the roles they want them to take (not saying you`re doing that, Shane). I tend to agree with the ED. We need to get someone who is capable and qualified instead of some one who is capable and qualified because he is a club legend

Would you agree that our best centre back pairing so far has been Toure and Lovren? I'd like to see these 2 start at the weekend as well.

Red Rum

Believable5 Unbelievable6

I think they had a good game v Swansea more to do with having Lucas in the side to be honest . In my opinion lovren and sahko our best pairing

Agree11 Disagree0

I agree Lucas made a big difference and also deserves to start.

Red Rum

Agree5 Disagree1

But for the mistake that caused Swansea`s goal, I thought Toure and Lovren were solid together BUT I will say that Gomis and Emnes weren`t much of a threat until the mistake happened.

After watching a few games of Benfica last season with Markovic playing I was extremely excited for his move.

Not just because of the fact that he is a known young exciting prospect, but also because of his flair, pace and dribbling abilities.

However right now it is not working for him at liverpool. Of course much is expected of him considering his transfer sum, but he is also a long time investment considering his age. We do need players right now that can make an immediate impact though.

Our recipe for scoring goals last season relied mainly on fast high pressure play and through balls to our attackers. For me I see quite a bit of similarities between Torres and Markovic and it would be interesting to see him play as an attacker in the diamond together with perhaps Balotelli or Lambert.

With his pace he can make more room for his other attackers as well as giving Coutinho an option of playing more through balls which he (Coutinho) is so good at.

We are desperately lacking more movement up top at the moment and even though we cannot put all the pressure on a 20 year old who is yet unproven in the premier league it would be interesting to see him play as an attacker. At least we have to change something or try something else, because right now, well … something is not right.

Chakob

Believable4 Unbelievable1

30 Oct 2014 12:32:59
Chakob, there is a trend in modern football that a player should instantly adjust to a league through the demand of a supporters appetite for them to succeed straight away.

There is also an unjust expectation that all players should be adaptable to many different positions.

These two things combined make it near impossible for any player, never mind a foreign player to succeed straight away.

The 'biggie' though is the expectation of Liverpool Football Club, as it seems to me that many players crumble with the expectations and simply fade away, only to have a career in tatters and sold off to a vulture club somewhere else.

Many players have failed over the years, and many will continue to do so, but in relation to the player mentioned, we need to consider all the above circumstances before any of us pass judgement.

Play him more!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree1 Disagree5

Marcovic is absolutely nothing like Torres how can you even compare the two . Marcovic is a direct quick wide man who likes to take on a player . Torres was a quick accelerating forward who played on the shoulder of the defenders and was a deadly finisher

Agree6 Disagree3

How is that an unjust expectation though? When you pay £20 million for a player the team and the supporters will naturally have their expectations.

You can argue that it is unjust to put those expectations on a 20 year old boy, and that is not fair to him by the buying club, but still the expectations are there.

Agree6 Disagree0

30 Oct 2014 14:30:22
We all expect good things mate, but we have to be reasonable when the player hasn't had the opportunities.

It doesn't help that the team is so low on confidence either.

Is it fair to judge a young lad, with high expectations, at a big club, in a big league, who has sporadic starts in a team plagued by a lack of confidence, with high league expectations and issues?

Not really, but I do get your point mate.

In saying that, the same applies too many of our new signings (with the exception of the Italian who THINKS he's the next big thing, has Premier league experience and is a lazy get!).

Agree1 Disagree2

30 Oct 2014 17:24:53
He's naff tho. Possesses nothing Jordan Ibe doesn't have.

Agree8 Disagree5

Im sure markovic has all the technical ability in the world, but at the moment has absolutely 0 application of it.

And that's not a matter of getting used to the premier league either, its just downright ridiculous and unacceptble. Consdiering he was talking himself up in a few interviews upon his arrival, its actually quite embarrassing how much he appears to cower on the pitch.

Refuses to shoot on goal, all backwards and sideways short passes, never takes on players, and tries to set up players with feeble little through balls that will never reach them.
He seriously needs to grow a pair and improve.

Agree6 Disagree0

Pre-season is v important for new players (especially from different leagues); Can and Markovic both had injuries so missed a large part of pre-season.

Also players returning at different times from the world cup would not have helped. Confidence is low in the team based upon results so expecting him to light up the team is putting a lot of pressure on the player - he didn't set the transfer fee!

I think your a bit harsh to judge him so soon.

Agree1 Disagree0

Fully agree DBOL, from what we've seen of MARKOVIC to date he doesn't warrant being a 20m player, what we need is a manager who has faith in are youth academy surely JORDAN IBE would of produce more. . there is a reason why CHELSEA wouldn't pay 20m for him. . also what happened to JORDAN ROSSITER on Tuesday surely we know what LUCAS can do by now.

Agree0 Disagree4

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea did not need to pay £20M for Markovic. A total of about £12M would be about the price.}

31 Oct 2014 00:21:36
Yes we know what Lucas can do, but Rossiter is a young, albeit talented lad. Just being in and around the first team is valuable experience right now.

I posted when we were linked to Markovic and said that he could be an exciting talent, but also that he isn't one that will start and pull up trees instantly. Honestly, as others I've been let down a little. But I'm still confident he can be a big player when he gets going. Just hope he can adapt and get confidence soon.

Think the Ibe comparisons are a little unjust right now, Markovic a player nominated for golden boy award alongside Sterling. So he obviously can't be a bad talent. Ibe as good as he can be, and maybe is, may not be seen as ready, and if he truly was there would be a host of prem clubs, maybe even foreign sides looking into a loan, not championship clubs. Both have big big futures in my opinion.

As for the Chelsea thing, yes he would have cost them far less, but they have so many attacking options in their first team and even out on loan. They genuinely just had no need for him.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Oct 2014 07:05:16
I hate to say it but Markovic is a dud, all this talk about needing time and lacking confidence is BS, you can tell he's out of his depth and he's not good enough.
I can see another aquillani situation happening, can't get anywere near what we paid for him back so he'll be loaned out for a couple of seasons then sold dirt cheap!

Agree1 Disagree0

Two thirds of the Saints team this season are new recruits in their first season in the PL and they dind't need any adjustment time, but hit the groun running. Markovich was bought in order to make an impact this season and this seems unlikely. There was probably a good reason why Chelsea decided not to buy him.

Agree1 Disagree0

Two thirds of the Saints team? You mean Pelle, Alderweireld, Tadic and Forster? That's about a third assuming they're all on the pitch together. And they're all in their mid to late twenties unlike Can, Markovic etc. Forster is also English anyway so grew up in British football. I'm sorry but to use Southampton to prove your point is ridiculous.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Oct 2014 13:24:17
Great point EMS, and Tadic is an established international unlike Markovic, if memory serves!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I suspect his point was based on other sides not needing as much time to settle as Liverpool. If Liverpool gets a new cat next summer you'll be asking for "a year of transition".}

"Liverpool are in pole position to sign Marco Reus"

It must be true guys the Metro are reporting it!

Believable8 Unbelievable1

30 Oct 2014 13:32:20
It's alright lads we'll sign a 17 year old instead, the next reus in 8 years rather than the Reus

seems to be our policy these days

30 Oct 2014 17:03:50
If Reus wants to leave Dortmund it will be for Die Bayern or Real, not Liverpool

Agree4 Disagree5

30 Oct 2014 17:14:22
Yeah we should steal reus and force him to sign for us. He doesn't have to want to sign for us.

Michael Edwards (Director of Performance)
=================

Ed002 if you still around, do you know what is "Director of Performance", what's the remit of his role and responsibilities? I tried googling it and the only one I found football related is the Scottish FA Director of Performance, but it does n't say what he does?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - He came from Spurs as a Comolli "signing" and is responsible for the analysis of how the players at the club and players who are looking to come to the club perform on a match-by-match basis.}

30 Oct 2014 07:16:27
Why is newcastle always in such goof form when we have to play them? I mean seriously every season for about 2/3rds of the season they are bad, but on form for us. I fear for us in that game.

But i would definitely play borini in the game cause he played really well against the swans and that he always scores against newcastle be it for pool or sunderland.

And yea pair him up with balotelli

Believable9 Unbelievable0

30 Oct 2014 09:27:37
Aston villa r the same they play relegation football and then we play them they look like a top 6 team.imo against Newcastle we need to put more pressure on their full backs than we did against hull.

Agree7 Disagree0

Haha yea Villa or any team managed by Tony pulis is our boogey team.

Put pressure on full back and start with two up top playing high pressing game like he did most of last season

Agree2 Disagree0

Newcastle will be VERY tough the Sat. The boys had better b ready
