Well done Benteke, taking points off our rivals! He has undoubted talent and it's nice to see him using that but it's just a pity he couldn't cut it at Liverpool.

Laleaving the chasing pack behind while closing gap at top.

Hope all goes to plan tomorrow :)

30 Sep 2016 23:08:02
Benteke handled himself brilliantly when leaving LFC.

No spite invoved.

Very classy

He's scoring well now as palace play to his strengths.

Good luck to him but I hope he doesn't come back to haunt us.

01 Oct 2016 00:36:40
Always said he was a good player, just not for us. I wish him the best, aslong as it's not against Liverpool I hope he smashes them in as much as possible. very profiessional man from what I know which isn't a lot but he seems to be a sound bloke.

30 Sep 2016 21:57:57
Just turned over to 405, THE MIRACLE OF ISTANBUL, oh my god it brings it all back, unbelievable!

lol yeah man, incredible, i can't count how many times I've re watched it. thing is, when you watch it, it kinda feels like a distant dream, to have that again? kinda thing. but I beleive we will. under Klopp, he's going to make us the team we should be, early but signs are there.

Good evening all from Cyprus We are coming to the WBA game at Anfield on 22 Oct with our sons and are very excited. We have 6 tickets in the Carlsberg dugout. We need one more for another family member. Are there any dugout ticket holders who are willing to sell one ticket for the game . Eds hope we are allowed to post such request :)

Believable1 Unbelievable4

30 Sep 2016 22:52:36
Good luck. Wish I still lived in Cyprus, I've lived there a total of 5 years at Dhekelia, near Larnaca.

Baz.

01 Oct 2016 05:38:10
Tks Baz- indeed we live in a blessed place :) ) )

30 Sep 2016 18:23:52
Early kick off tomorrow, so lads who would you have in goal, Migs or Karius, personally I'd stick with Karius, I'm also hearing that Ings is on the bench as Origi is carrying a injury.

Believable7 Unbelievable4

30 Sep 2016 18:32:27
Karius, no question.

30 Sep 2016 19:43:47
Karius is already confirmed to be in goal. and a right decision in my opinion.

30 Sep 2016 20:09:14
Karius was brought in to be in goal as he fits the system we play. Mingo does not. The question answers itself.

30 Sep 2016 22:05:04
Ings wasn't on the U23s squad this week so you'd have to guess that he's in the team for tomorrow.

01 Oct 2016 00:40:30
I know Ings is no first choice or anything but I'd love to see more of him, I think he can be incredible for us given a chance, hopefully he can get some time in tomorrow.

30 Sep 2016 17:34:36
Why do people abuse the Eds? Just why, jt perplexes me. They give up time to provide us with info we can't get anywhere else, which is normally accurate aswell.

Believable10 Unbelievable12

30 Sep 2016 18:20:43
Because Roz the Ed's don't go along with/ tell them what they want to hear mate.

30 Sep 2016 17:56:41
Just Trolls mate. I wouldn't put up with the stick the Eds take if I was paid for it. Let alone for free.

Although I don't like this Ed025 lad. He's a cheeky one! I think Harry should get him a set of shackles and put him in the dungeon with Ed001 ;)

{Ed025's Note - if they were pink and fluffy i would be all for that MK .. :)

30 Sep 2016 19:06:45
Now I'm intrigued.

I mean, errr, worried? Yeah, worried!

30 Sep 2016 19:15:41
If we didn't have people abusing the eds I would never have known what a glifnard is to be fair haha.

30 Sep 2016 15:33:52
I'm not sure Ed001 came up with the name or borrow it but his description of Fat Scam did make me lol.

Never has a description been so well put since Cashley Cole almost crashed his car.

Believable3 Unbelievable9

30 Sep 2016 16:04:56
Applies to Uncle Scam too.

30 Sep 2016 18:02:39
That was a good one, g1dgo.

30 Sep 2016 14:19:35
Ed one

I saw you listed the best managers below and whilst I don't agree nor dis-agree with your list as I know very little about most of them, I was wondering what in your view makes for a great manager. In my view a lot of people get confused about what a great manager does, With Klopp for example I would not call him a manager but a leader he doesn't sit in his comfy chair ordering people about he leads by example working harder and longer than anybody else for the benefit of Liverpool football club. He also is intelligent enough to share his responsibility by surrounding himself with coaches who excel in certain areas of the game, Tactical specialist, opporsition specialist, scouting specialist and so on. Plus everyone right down to the cleaners and tea ladies feel there part of the success of the club. I also feel he never makes anyone feel dropped of benched for games just makes others feel selected and those who are not feel opportunity to be so next game. Just my opinion on what a great manager is.

Believable1 Unbelievable11

30 Sep 2016 15:00:51
You don't think Moreno feels dropped?

30 Sep 2016 15:52:06
no annie I think klopp has made him feel taken out of the firing line from complete and constant criticism to work on his game in training so he can try come back a better more mature player. let's not forget Moreno is seen as a flop because of the price we paid but he is still a young player who is still to reach an age were you would expect better from him, maybe it won't happen for him but Moreno was the butt of all jokes and klopp has taken him away from that, for me that is a clever thing to do. there is still a future for Moreno here if he can earn it, so no not dropped at all and more focus on helping him.

{Ed025's Note - he does have a future jay..i hear Mcdonalds are hiring.. :)

30 Sep 2016 15:58:16
I feel Klopp is a fantastic manager, results are proving that, early or not. but yes as Annie has said. Moreno dropped (rightly so), sakho. (again rightly so due to his attitude), ings? who in my opinion should be given a chance but there you go. Klopp is the manager, he has a lot more knowledge then I do so ill go along with it. I think Klopp is a perfect example of a good manager.

30 Sep 2016 18:10:47
If Moreno feels dropped, that is his fault and no one else`s, Annie. The guy is awful and lacks any form of football intelligence. I understand why Klopp is doing what he`s doing in public and not slating him but defending him. Why? because he knows that some time this season he may well need Moreno to step in and play the game of his life to help us win hence, he is keeping him motivated and protecting him which IMO, is excellent man-management. But don`t get it twisted. Behind the smiles, the bro-hugs and his infectious demeanor, lies a strict and ruthless disciplinarian who does take crap from nobody, period. If you don`t believe me, go ask Sahko, Balo, Benteke and the others at BVB or Mainz who have felt his wrath.

01 Oct 2016 00:17:00
Moreno played at leftback almost constantly for a couple of seasons and then what? He was asked to relax for a while, take it easy? Work on his game, let Milner look after his spot for a bit even though he's a midfielder, enjoy being protected from the mean critics by sitting on the bench? He's been DROPPED.
Im not criticising Klopp and i don't rate Moreno highly but he's not been given a cuddle and taken out of the firing line imo. He made too many major mistakes in recent games and he has been dropped. Its now up to him to improve his game and usurp the best leftback we've had in recent years.

01 Oct 2016 00:45:04
Yes Annie I agree, it's as simple as it gets he has been dropped lol nevermind sugar coating it. he got dropped and deserved to be. thank god!

With us not signing a new lb in the summer i was worried but now seeing milner playing how he's playing i'm very surprised to say the least. see. perfect management in my opinion, he could've got a new LB. he knew what he was doing.

30 Sep 2016 13:56:43
Afternoon Reds and Eds,

Just wondering on everyone's opinion of Steve Finnan?

He was the starting RB at Liverpool when I was about 12 years old. Being a right-back myself (although I was terrible), I always used to idolise him. Unfortunately for me, I can't remember whether he was actually any good or not because I was 12 and had no idea about anything!

Believable1 Unbelievable9

{Ed025's Note - average for me 10M..

30 Sep 2016 14:21:26
he had average ability but managed to make the absolute most of it, definitely a player worth looking upto.

30 Sep 2016 14:24:34
Very dependable with a pretty good cross as I remember. Always a 7/ 10, good injury record,

30 Sep 2016 15:02:09
I always thought he was superb at what he did. Rarely made a mistake.

30 Sep 2016 15:59:51
I thought he was excellent.

30 Sep 2016 16:42:26
I always really liked him, not spectacular but was very tidy. a Tad underrated in my opinion.

30 Sep 2016 18:13:28
Loved Finnan. Not the most gifted but boy, did he do the simple things well. Very good at defending and not bad going forward and had a few goals in him as well. He is an example of how a player with less ability than others can actually make a very good career out of football, which he certainly did. A UCL winners medal is not too shabby for a guy like him, really.

30 Sep 2016 18:25:17
A very solid and reliable defender.

30 Sep 2016 21:18:24
Having played against Steve for a good few years as kids I can say he was an excellent player, could read the game like nobody else for his age at the time, very strong and fast and luckily was noticed and went on to have a great career, bumped into him last xmas in a local shopping centre while he was back to visit his family etc, apparently he's in the construction business somewhere near London now.

Such a pity we don't have FB's with his calibre in the club at the moment, no disregard to clone or even Milner but if he was still playing in their age bracket today he would be a certain starter every game for me. Great attitude as a kid and seemed to not have changed that as a pro.

30 Sep 2016 21:41:55
A manager's dream of a player, because you could send him out with instructions and he'd follow them to the letter.
No frills, just reliable and dependable.

30 Sep 2016 21:59:10
Exactly Ron that was the point I was trying to make above even as a kid he was trying his best to lead by example, sadly didn't really work out back then as he was in a terrible team we trounced them over and over lol.

30 Sep 2016 23:38:09
IMO at his peak he would get into my team above Johnson, Clyne and arbeloa. Not a stylish player, but very consistent defensively and had a good cross on him going forward. Not well remembered unfortunately because as said above he didn't write the headlines but a very competent and reliable pro.

30 Sep 2016 13:03:16
Ed, is Alexander Arnold highly rated and expected to be in and around the first team in the near future?

Cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - he is excepted to push for a squad place at least.}

30 Sep 2016 14:27:16
Ed if clyne gets injured . May he get a chance or Milner to rb.

30 Sep 2016 14:47:43
He's good enough that we don't need to buy someone to cover clyne. Clyne injured throw Alex in.

30 Sep 2016 14:27:16
Ed if clyne gets injured . May he get a chance or Milner to rb.

{Ed001's Note - it could be a possibility. Hard to say as it really depends on the opponents and how so many others are doing at the time.}

30 Sep 2016 11:39:06
Morning Ed001

2 questions for you that have nothing to do with the Liverpool game tomorrow (i don't want to jinx it )

Do you know who the FA are going to turn too now to manage England?

And who would you go for if you had the choice? i personally would not mind Hoddle getting another crack at it

Hope all is well on your end

Thanks.

Believable2 Unbelievable7

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea who it will be, I know they would love it to be Wenger, so maybe this is finally time to move for him at the end of the season.

Who would I go for is a different one. It has to be Bielsa. The best coach in the world. That should be the thinking. No more fat blokes in the team because they play for a big club, he would pick the best players for his system. He would make England worth watching.}

30 Sep 2016 11:52:12
when you say for his system ed, are you talking about the 3-3-3-1 formation he played with chile? or do you mean he won't do classic England manager tactic of square pegs in round holes? think he would be great choice though chile were always a joy to watch under him.

{Ed001's Note - he sets the formation to suit the players, but he also expects the players to be able to show intelligence on the pitch and switch their places to best effect the game. The main issue is the lack of technique from English players, he would have them working hard to improve that.}

30 Sep 2016 12:25:55
Cheers

Do you reckon Wenger would do a good job of it?

Also is there going to be a match preview for the game tommorow?

30 Sep 2016 12:55:21
Biesla is a lose cannon. England some stability Ed after this whole ordeal with Allardyce.

I would agree he is a fantastic tactician and he would have us playing some entertaining football.

However, he's just not worth the trouble in my mind.

{Ed001's Note - England need to become competitive, Bielsa will bring that. There is no one else around who could stand any hope with this England squad.}

30 Sep 2016 13:37:18
Any chance Swansea might go for Bielsa Ed- or if he'd even be keen? Heard rumours a while ago and would love him in the PL.

{Ed001's Note - he doesn't speak any English, which I would expect to rule him out sadly.}

30 Sep 2016 13:43:50
Ah but does he speak Welsh Ed? Nah shame that. I could also see that being a stick used to beat him with by the wonderful English media.

{Ed001's Note - exactly, plus it makes it difficult to get his instructions over to the players.}

30 Sep 2016 14:48:54
Wenger simple.

Southgate to hold the ship till end of season.

30 Sep 2016 17:33:53
Alan Pardew or Harry Redknapp.

30 Sep 2016 18:18:28
Ed, I agree that Bielsa is a great coach and a disciplinarian. However, he has a lot of history of throwing his toys out of the pram and just leaving his position in the dead of night because things aren`t going his way like he did at OM last season. That is my fear with him as I`ve seen him do it not only at OM but elsewhere. If not fo those things, I would have had him at LFC pre-Klopp in one go. Is he the right one for England? Competent wise, absolutely because he is the one that can make the tough decisions to get some right wretched players (they know who they are) out of this team and whip them into shape.

{Ed002's Note - He speaks very little English.}

30 Sep 2016 21:21:46
What about gus hiddink I know he's still involved with the Chelsea setup but his record speaks for itself.

{Ed001's Note - I am not a big fan, he just gets his teams to work hard. Definitely a very good manager, but nowhere near top 5, especially not now.}

30 Sep 2016 21:41:10
But isn't that what's wrong with the England setup all along and this is from an outsider ( I'm Irish )

Getting players to knuckle down and do what they are supposed to, to the best of their ability. There's massive potential there in the England squad for years but nobody since Glenn Hoddle or even the late great bobby robson has any other England manager ever managed to get the squad playing to the best of their ability. Just my opinion but I also see your point in a way ed001.

Cheers for the reply mate.

{Ed001's Note - apologies, I thought this was the 5 best managers thread. I do see your point, but England needs someone to raise their technique, which is not Hiddink's game at all. He is more of a Fat Scam/Tony Pulis-type. Gets the most out of average players but they don't really improve as players.}

30 Sep 2016 21:54:12
Who would you like to see if you in your own opinion as the best available at the moment who might actually be brave enough to take it on as it's often seen as a poison chalice. In other words if you don't do well within the England setup and your out there's no real comeback to any top flight club again as if your career gets tarnished?

{Ed001's Note - Bielsa, but he would not fail.}

30 Sep 2016 09:53:38
Ed001
Who are the top 5 mangaers currently.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - Simeone, Klopp, Mourinho, Bielsa and I can't think of another off the top of my head, which is what has taken so long to reply as I couldn't think of a 5th, even though I have said it recently.}

30 Sep 2016 11:59:14
No pep Ed.

{Ed001's Note - nope, his teams get gradually worse over time as he coaches them, that is not the sign of a top coach. Also he overcomplicates the game. It should be simple at its best.}

30 Sep 2016 12:18:02
Ancelotti, ed01?

{Ed001's Note - he has failed to lift as many league titles as he should have to be classed as a great. In my opinion.}

30 Sep 2016 12:47:08
Ranieri?

{Ed001's Note - I like him, but not sure he can be classed as a top 5 after his time in international management.}

30 Sep 2016 12:50:30
Perhaps Pocettino? Wenger?

{Ed001's Note - Pochettino has not proven himself yet. Wenger has struggled for too long.}

30 Sep 2016 12:52:04
Allegri? Tuchel? Lucho?

{Ed001's Note - Allegri is the one I was thinking of. Tuchel has not impressed me at all. He is a poor man's Klopp. I am not sure who you mean by Lucho?}

30 Sep 2016 13:06:47
So do mourinhos ed? How come you selected him?

{Ed001's Note - no they don't. Jose usually leaves when they are at their peak. His last job was a struggle, but he has had a lot going on off the field, to me he looks like he needs a long break.}

30 Sep 2016 13:27:42
Ancelloti?

{Ed001's Note - no mate, missed out on far too many league titles with the best team in it.}

30 Sep 2016 13:31:00
Ancelotti ed?
Up the pool.

{Ed001's Note - see above.}

30 Sep 2016 13:42:16
Unai Emery? Low? Koeman? Sarri?

{Ed001's Note - Emery is a good shout, he has done well. Loew has not proven himself other than as manager of the team with by far the best players, in Germany. Koeman, not even close, not even good, in my opinion, too much of an arse. Sarri I do not know enough about, prior to Napoli, to judge him.}

30 Sep 2016 13:59:12
Sampaoli?

{Ed025's Note - ED01 knows its koeman back, but his red tinted glasses wont let him actually say it.. :)

30 Sep 2016 14:21:39
I love ed1s reply above, can't be more correct.

30 Sep 2016 15:49:45
ed001 how about Roger Schmidt?

30 Sep 2016 13:50:26
Do you think Emery may come to the PL one day in the future Ed?

{Ed001's Note - probably. I hope so, he certainly was keen at one time, not sure about now.}

30 Sep 2016 14:08:02
Sorry ed, meant Luis Enrique of Barcelona. Also, couldn't you argue the same about how Bielsa should have won more than he has?

{Ed001's Note - meh, hard to judge Enrique, he did nothing to suggest he was special before Barca. Bielsa has never had the best teams like Ancelotti has done repeatedly. Ancelotti is just too nice for me.}

30 Sep 2016 15:49:45
ed001 how about Roger Schmidt?

{Ed001's Note - I don't know enough about him to consider him a top 5 manager in the world.}

30 Sep 2016 16:40:26
How about Jorge Jesus eds?

{Ed001's Note - he needs to win outside of Portugal. Or do a bit better in Europe.}

30 Sep 2016 17:29:51
What about international managers?
I think Jochim Löwe has done a good job despite his personal hygiene issues 😁.

{Ed001's Note - yes but he is managing Germany, who are much better than the rest, so he needs to prove himself elsewhere.}

30 Sep 2016 18:22:23
Ed regarding Leow, he built that German team from scratch since 2006, bringing through all the great players we now know of today so shouldn`t he get the credit for having the best players if he is the one that brought them through? I do agree that he needs to prove himself as a manager of a club or elsewhere as well because he was a failed manager at Hamburg where he got the sack.

{Ed001's Note - did he bring them through or did the club academies not do that?}

30 Sep 2016 20:17:24
I see your point, Ed. I meant that he brought them through the national team through the national team youth ranks when many may not have deemed it fit. I agree that Germans have revamped their club and national team youth systems since 2008 which has kept the assembly line coming with talented players. In 2009, Khedira, Neuer, Boateng, Ozil, Muller and Kroos all came from the U21 team that beat England in the 2300p Euro U21 final (players in that England team have disappeared from the football landscape, in contrast due to poor professional choices and bad management) . After that, these boys all went on to start for Germany at the 2010 World cup. That is to Leow`s credit, IMO for having the gonads to play them and they did not disappoint. 4 years later, these same players won the World cup. I just think he should get credit for actually giving these boys a chance? Just asking.

30 Sep 2016 21:46:13
Why not give it to Gary Neville he talks rubbish 24/ 7 the press would love him 😀

And the irritating Michael Owen as his mini me

I'd pay to see that

Maybe because Of my Irish roots I'm saying that, well actually I am but OMG anything could happen these days.

30 Sep 2016 10:42:28
Question for the eds if they are about (i know this isn't really the place) but what have you thought of Dundalks performances in Europe this season? Surely Steven Kenny is catching some attention in the lower leagues in England also?

Believable0 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - I haven't watched it to be honest. I don't really enjoy European football, so I don't tend to watch it if it is not us playing.}

30 Sep 2016 12:52:46
Quite the story, semi professional team from Ireland who have picked up 4 points in the Europa League when an Irish team has never had even 1 point before. Missed out on Champions League qualification by 2 late goals in each leg. Have drawn away to Az and just beat Maccabi Tel Aviv at home. Managed by the last manager to qualify an Irish team for europe.

30 Sep 2016 18:20:24
Kenny's done an excellent job at Dundalk, the club have always been traditionally behind the Dublin clubs and Cork City, had nearly gone out of business a couple of years he joined, only just had escaped relegation the previous season, and basically had no players when he joined (contracts in the Irish league tend to be one season at a time) . He managed to get a squad together and finished 2nd straight away, before winning the league the last two seasons.

He's really instilled a lot of belief in the side. Player for player, they're not the best league of Ireland team to play in Europe, and he also has a tiny squad, but I've never seen another league of Ireland side try to play football and bring the ball out so consistently in continental competition before. And they've been rewarded for it.

He might get poached, but he did manage in Scotland before unsuccessfully.

30 Sep 2016 21:27:41
Rumour around here is Sam allardyce was asked if he fancied coming back to limerick they are even offering the cortina he was given to drive around in and all the pints of wine he needs in the horse and hound 😀.

30 Sep 2016 07:30:39
If you look back to last week I did a prediction post and said Liverpool would beat Hull 5-1 (wish to hell I'd of put a bet on)

Let's try again.

Predictions for tomorrow?

I think it'll be our first clean sheet. I think we'll hammer them 4-0!

So glad to know Karius will be starting as well.

Believable5 Unbelievable9

30 Sep 2016 08:33:47
Swans 1 Liverpool 3.

30 Sep 2016 09:21:50
Think it will be a tough game, Swansea have played better than their points.

We love leaking a goal so 3-1/ 2-1.

2nd game of weekend so let's win it and close the gap at the top.

30 Sep 2016 09:29:52
im going for a 2-0 first clean sheet i hope!

30 Sep 2016 09:50:46
Two nil but any win will do
Up the pool.

30 Sep 2016 09:54:10
Mattaldinho your not wrong mate I get what your saying, they aren't doing bad at all, but I just think on our current form, we'll hammer them. well I certainly hope so anyway! they've been playing good - we've been playing incredible.

To be fair I'm predicting 4-0 but i'd be happy with 1-0. a wins a win, get them 3 points!

30 Sep 2016 10:08:50
5-0 Pool.

30 Sep 2016 11:12:46
2-1, expecting a tight one away but a Mane and Firmino goal to see it home.

30 Sep 2016 11:31:25
3-0 to Liverpool.

30 Sep 2016 12:00:45
3-1 Lallana first goal I'm going for!

30 Sep 2016 12:26:59
This will be a very very tough game, they've been playing quite well just results have been going against them, I'll take a scruffy 1-0 right now. Don't care about performance, this and the next game are solely about points gained for me.

30 Sep 2016 14:22:57
I agree waro. 1 nil will be fine.

30 Sep 2016 15:22:28
We're scoring goals for fun at the minute, 3-0.

Swansea is a very difficult place to play as we have only won there once in six tries so I don`t get why people think we will just turn up and whip them. It will be a tough game for us especially with the manager`s job on the line, the players will be up for it. Let`s just hope that we can weather the first 20 minutes and move on from there.
