Anyone know a good site to watch highlights of all todays matches? Except for FootyTube.

I just missed MOTD, and the BBC don't repeat it on iplayer, yet every other programme is repeated bar the news and weather.

So anyone got anything? I'd appreciate it!

Thanks

Chipkin9 (EIRE) {Ed001's Note - MOTD is repeated in the morning.}

101greatgoals.com

Haha, I know that Ed, but I want to watch it now online, as I don't rise in the morning ;) {Ed001's Note - I was thinking you could record it and watch it later.}

Our household hasn't the luxury of sky digital yet Ed hehe...We're first time "Housers".

Besides why do you want digital when you got the interwebs?

thx to poster who suggested 101greatgoals.com

It's similar to FootyTube but with longer "Highlights" and not just goals. Cheers

Happey New Year Eds and reds!

Chipkin9 (EIRE) {Ed001's Note - I don't pay for Sky, but my comps have TV tuners and my TV can record as well mate, you just need to get in the 21st century!}

Espn {Ed001's Note - good thinking.}

Download espn goal its on android and apple. u get to c highlighg.20mins after the match is finished the highlights b uploaded.

I have read the FA report completely and I am amazed at peoples interpretation of it. My own interpretation is inevitably different, and of course I am a little biased....but I can still think clearly.

Suarez has been painted badly in the report and by the newspapers in general, but the whole decision is based merely on the acceptance by the panel of Evras statement and not that of Suarez.

Without going into every single paragraph:

1) In Suarez own words, he referred to Evra ONCE as a Negro AFTER Evra had referred to Suarez as his sisters C**T.

2) The decision by the panel is based purely on them believing Evras story in preference to Suarez, i.e that Suarez called him a negro on more than 5 occasions.....why believe Evra ?

3) For some reason, a lot of the report also focuses on Suarez pinching Evra...cmon guys get a grip! When you see some of the tackles going in during every Prem game !

4) The whole report is clearly biased because Evra was supposedly a very good witness and it then refers on many occasions to things 'supposedly' said by Suarez and treats them as fact !!. Its just one persons word against another yet the panel have treated Evras words as fact !

5) How do they expect Suarez to act in a strange English court with interpreters who are not even English lawyers?

6) Evra fully accepts that Suarez is not racist, and he now admits that Suarez didnt call him a n****r despite his original testimony saying that he did....yet the panel still choose to accept that he is a more credible witness??

7) This whole case has been brought because of the words as described by Evra after the game, yet he now accepts that what he said was not correct !!

8) To put things in perspective, during the game the whole incident was initiated by Evra because Suarez fouled him. Unbelievably, the report actually says that Evra was still in a state of shock from the previous foul when he called Suarez filthy names. How biased is this? Why should the panel make excuses for Evra being offensive in the first place and then subsequently initiating this whole affair ?

The bottom line is that Evra started the verbals on the pitch and as a result a bit of winding up has gone on from BOTH sides.

Suarez was happy to let it go, but Evra wouldnt and told lies to Fergie, the ref and the TV crew. He later retracted what he said and accepted that Suarez did not use the word n****r.

Despite the views of a lot of people on here I think Suarez still has a justifiable case to appeal, and im sticking to my guns

Tel 1949

I agree with supporting the clubs position whole heartedly .

The FA panel actually make it clear that the inconsistencies they identified in Suarez's testimony , led the panel to favour Evra's account .

However I'm fully behind Luis Suarez and will support all further action the Club and Players may take .

Qwerty

I have just spent a couple of hours reading the whole report too and I agree with all of your points.
Stitch up.

KJS

And you're forgetting that this "independent panel" are also calling Kuyt a liar

Well said Tel

I've struggled through the report too and i agree with you Tel 1949. On page 37 they dismiss Kuyt's evidence as unreliable due to inconsistancy with Evra's.
The language experts are from Manchester Uni, i kid you not!!
On the whole they have, as Kenny has already alluded to, decided Suarez is guilty of whatever Evra decides was said at the time. As Rafa would say, FACT, Evra has changed his version of the words Suarez used - twice now.

Bang on mate.I've read it too and agree with everything you've said.I've never been one for believing in media conspiracy v lfc but the reporting on this has shocked me.incidentally,well worth checking out Carrie Baird and Jen changs views.yosser

Hey, guys, just want to hear your take on the 115 page report. They decided evra was more trust worthy bullsh1t, language expert said on Suarez testimony his use of the word was not racist. Maybe he should give testimony in spanish. Coincidence that Suarez will be available for man city game to help us win so that man u can gain 3 points on them, very convient. P.s. If you put an email you should get emailed when people post about somehing you posted. I think that would be handy, just a thought.

Did the management not feel Ayala was upto liverpool standard ed? Always thought he looked fairly promising.

Everybody with therir own opinion on the issue of Suarez , interesting really because each individual believes themselves to be correct .

I suppose we are fortunate to have such Professional principles in place such as Kenny Dalglish , Tom Werner & John W Henry to tell us what the official position is .

Here is looking forward to a great football future under the guidance of great men , with the clubs best interests at heart and the right kind if support behind them .

I think if stevie g remain fit Andy Carroll will get 15 goals him and Aurellio seem to be the only ones with accurate enough passes to give the big man the service he needs...no further business until Cam league places sorted...possible a few youngsters

I understand that the club wanted to show solidarity with the suarez statement but I hope that the club now realise that making statements can put serious egg on your face.

I remember when the wrestler Chris Benoit died and they had a tribute to him on the following night. Then the next day the police released the details and it turned out he had murdered his family and then committed suicide. Vince Mcmahaon went mental about it.

Not saying wrestling is the same as football but there is a lesson to be learned from it.

I'm not going to condemn Suarez, but I will say that this incident should be past now and he should learn (along with the litany of other things he has done before). No need to sell him, time is the best healer and by the time he comes back it should be water under the bridge.

Thats my two cents.

I've supported Suarez so far but having read the reports of the FA investigation I've come to the conclusion that Liverpool should just accept the punishment, let everything quieten down, read the riot act to him behind closed doors and plan for the next 8 game without him.

That's why you can't put your name to the comment

I agree with the original poster. Not like you signed your name, second poster

People to chill re Suarez, let it play out and die down. Did people question Rooney's moral compass when he banging granny prozzy's, and then more prozzy's when his mrs was pregnant! (alledge) Or when he swore at the camera, it all goes away after a while. All the best.

Why do people keep talking about Darren Bent we are clearly not interested as when we sold 2 strikers we replaced them with Suarez an Carrol.

Plus i remember Comolli mentioning an ruling Bent out saying he was not what they were looking for?

31 Dec 2011 22:17:02
proper joke all suarez said was negro 6 times. Something that he didn't even mean in a offensive way. Its obvious that he is not a racist but that is what he will be known as now unfortunetly.

Danny {Ed001's Note - if he had not bothered reacting in the first place, none of this would be happening.}

Yeah but its still not fair on him. He reacted in a manner that he thought was appropriated and any other player would have reacted also. but they would have knew that he couldn't say that.

Danny {Ed001's Note - which is why both should have been punished, in my opinion.}

Yep ed both should have but only one was.
k-h

You know how it is ed. United get away with murder anyway. But hey theres always a positive at least stevie is back and the newcastle win should give them some confidence.I know we can beat man city. we have came the closest out of all the teams this year to beat them. so come on the reds.

Danny

Except chelsea lol they came a bit closer than us but i know what your saying we took them to the wire and were unlucky not to come away with a victory heres looking to a good hopefully great 2012

Suarez - who will want to pay 40M for him if he is sold?

Apart from his box of tricks and his baggage what else does he bring, he does not score enough goals?

Maybe we could swap him for a Barca or Real striker
(no not Messi)

Just taken from Utd page....Its in tomorrow's papers,Rooney went out for a meal stephens night with evans gibson and their old dolls...fergie found out and snapped on rooney plus made them train on their day off and big fines,apparently rooney made a joke about fergie kicking the boot at beckham at their xmas quiz night and fergie told him that comment will cost him.

Fox in the box

Is it me or is this just stupid?

31 Dec 2011 21:49:34
Just read the FA report and nothing has really changed for me, it's still one mans word against anothers. A bunch of speculation and no clear evidence of guilt or maybe I'm to stupid to see it. So Evra is a more crediable witness then Suarez because he remembers the incident in great detail. Wich would not be suprising if Evra is making the story up, but of course that could never happen.

I have backed Suarez all through the case and i still do and believe that he should have a career at Liverpool and as the case as proved he is not a racist. But the thing is now is that every ground he goes to he is going to get a load of stick and the thing is as he got the temperament to put up with it every week. He is goiing to be labelled a racist by every other fan.

Unfortunately i think if Kenny and the club dont think he is up to handling it and think the club is going to be damaged then just maybe he might be on his way sooner than we think. As long as the club can move forward thats the most important thing.

To everyone on this page. Torres is not coming back to Liverpool anytime soon. Not in this transfer window, not in the next, and most likely will retire having never worn a Liverpool kit again.

Not true, I have heard from a reliable source that he sleeps in a Liverpool kit, so that he dreams of playing at anfield again

Just been for a float around the mancs page and some of them are wanting Torres for themselves..! They have absolutely no shame!

Myk

That he Torres dances Naked at the full moon in an attempt to connect with the universe so that the Law of attraction will bring him back to Liverpool what the hell its new year may as well be an person too

Just shows you what they (UTD fans)know about football, Torres is finished and they don't get it

31 Dec 2011 21:13:57
Do the EDS think all this with Suarez is likely to make the club think about selling him or will it just make us stick by him more?

Mat lfc {Ed001's Note - more likely to sell.}

Ed, if I understood you correctly, LFC 'may' consider selling Suarez. I don't think that option makes sense right now...not after all the support the club has provided so far. True, the fallout could be damaging but surely, selling Suarez this window would be an admission that the support was not based on genuine motives. I think the best solution would be for Suarez to apologise about the episode. This shouldn't be taken as an admission of guilt but to close the episode once an for all.

Eds, do you believe there is a good chance we will try to sell him now? i hope not but i dont know anymore {Ed001's Note - no, more a chance an offer will be accepted.}

Hey ed you say that bu do you thinks its likely we will sell him or unlikely? {Ed001's Note - I think it is more likely he will go, if the right offers come on or the right deal can be done.}

How would people feel if we sold Suarez in the summer and got Pato or Higuain. Granting we get champs league?

DanLFC

I for one would be gutted if we got rid of luis,geez im just getting over torres going,no other player excites me more to watch than suarez,
we all know hes not a racist and im sure time will be a good healer,jimmybosun,

HI ed001 I was just reading your responses to the others about suarez, there seems to be a big change in lfc's stance towards him, ithought a player with his skill was very hard to come by and why do we want to sell him , we are really lacking in the area woth players of his quality. Do we have anyone in mind, because I don't think de jong is in the same ilk.Has suarez said he wants to leave or is it kk that wants him out ? wouldn't it be a victory for ferhie over us by pushing one of our best players out, i mean the guy is so skillful and good. thanks for the info.
hibsylfc {Ed001's Note - it is more that he has Real Madrid as a suitor and they have players we want that they are willing to part with.}

Who are we looking at from real ed?

KopEndDannyLFC {Ed005's Note - Interest in Ozil as the other eds have said however much depends on whether we get CL football, and of course unless he doesn't move before the Summer. However CL football still wouldn't automatically mean we would get him. Worth noting R.Madrid are looking to get one of our players.........}

My boss in work is a Utd fan and he told me the chant that they have got for Suarez next time he plays against them. In the Luis Suarez song change his name to racist b*stard, how original.

Listen, I think it's time we drew a line under this whole affair. It doesn't paint Suarez in the greatest of lights. It's really damage limitation time now. I would be very surprised if Liverpool appeal anything to be honest. Take the ban & learn from it.

I actually would love for a foreign club to come in & offer anything over £35 million. Highly unlikely in January I know. Suarez had enough baggage before he came & he hasn't helped himself since he's been here. Before any muppetts come out with " support the player" bull, I support the Club! Players just let you down I'm afraid.

The Irish Rover

The football Club is in total support of the player , always have been and have made themselves perfectly clear , this is where we stand .

Hey Ed!
Haven't posted in a while but would you mind answering a few questions for me please?
1) do you think Liverpool will still appeal?
2) have the FA got any concrete evidence of Suarez racially abusing Patrice Evra?
3) are you backing the FA or Suarez on this one (as in who do you think right like are the FA making a fool of themselves or Suarez) ?
Cheers, looking forward to your reply mate.

31 Dec 2011 20:35:10
Here's how I see the Suarez document.
A Uraguayan is accused by a Frenchman of saying something to him in Spanish and maybe something in English as well. A Dutchman tries to intervene. The Frenchman comments at some time later to his team-mates, a Welshman, a Brazilian and a Mexican. He then speaks to a Scotsman who takes him to see an English Referee. After that the Frenchman speaks to another Frenchman on French TV. The English Referee interviews the original Frenchman, The Scotsman, another Scotsman and then another Spanish speaking (not fluent) Frenchman then puts in a report. The whole matter is then looked at by a panel of 3 Englishmen and their evidence includes that of 2 other Englishmen (?) who are fluent in Spanish and know all there is to know about South American Culture. Two English (?) Barristers for the Frenchman and the Uraguayan argue their cases and whilst the Frenchman gives his evidence in English the Uraguayan does so mainly through a Spanish Interpreter. No wonder there is confusion and discord with so many different languages, cultures and perceived attitudes involved. Does anyone eklse think this was always doomed from the start and that the FA have opened up a real can of worms?
Good luck with the Appeal Luis and Happy New Year.

And dont forget the irshman Giggs too plus De Gea !

Giggs Was born in the same hospital as me in Cardiff, which is not in Ireland my friend!

Sorry, forgot to sign the original post but my whole take on the issue is that Luis had to play catch-up as soon as Evra made the accusations. Luis was on to a loser as soon as the various languages, interpretations, cultures, inuendo, body language and visual aids were used to put the case together. Two points touched on and may be important to any Appeal are about the procedure on the day. First, the Referee never interviewed Luis due to language barrier, but he did interview Evra - disadvantage straight away. Second, the contemporaneous notes taken by the 4th Official on interviews conducted by the Referee on the day were destroyed after being transcribed. If this were a criminal case both discrepancies would automatically cast doubt on the procedure adopted and make the chance of a conviction highly unlikely. Problem is, this isn't a criminal case and the FA seem to be able to make up their own rules on procedure to suit.

wow, we've had some tough times oourselves, but its pretty bad for chelsea right now, lol. i can only imagine what there fans are going through. they have wolves next, that should be easy for them but then aston villa? they've been playin crap. the only reason us liverpool are in the hunt for forth is how bad chelsea have been playing and for arsenal appauling start. we are lucky for that and we should kick on and grab 4th place now. money wont help chelsea (maybe abramovich should be manager then he wont be able to sack him self) and arsenal are already doing well in the transfer market and are getting henry on loan, haha, while liverpool are getting better with each game and could add some additions to the team...

31 Dec 2011 20:13:08
Evra admitted starting it all by admitted he referred to Suarez's sister in Spanish. No sympathy at all for Evra. He should know that its not nice to call peoples sister in our culture. {Ed002's Note - Actually he used a term the literal meaning refers to a certain part of a sister's anatomy - but it is not an insult of his sister, but of him. But there was no racist element to the insult and it was certainly not a term that has been widely discussed.}

I guess LFC will accept the ban and move on. I'm convinced Suarez will learn from this experience. Let's admit it...we all make mistakes and Suarez is only human after all. I still think he's not racist and anyone who calls him a racist is a bigot. LFC should continue to support Suarez but a word of advice about future behavious is required. KK will know how to deal with Suarez. In the meantime and in any event, the club need an additional striker.

Best wishes for the new year, ED. {Ed002's Note - Have a great NY.}

Wow ed, wow...

the word negro is in the concise english dictionary. does this make collins press racist.

You are a thick y**t!!! That is in there too pal. By the way, I support Suarez fully and will continue to do so. I don't like Evra, I don't trust him and I suspect that he is a liar with a chip on his shoulder.

Here is a honest opinion on whole suarez matter.
1.suarez should be told in clear away improve his behaviour.
Cut the diving and improve his conduct.we all make mistakes but let's improve as humans.
2.buy 2 strikers n get cover for luis.jan came at right time.
3.sack the PR manger who so ever wrote the statement was idiot.
4.tell kenny its good to stand by ur players but LFC is now a global brand and bad things which come into media should be condemmed so don't go over the top.
5.build bridges with FA again.

6.move on all LFC stand for more and something better.

Happy new year.

Red indian

Or ... continue as Kenny Dalglish intends the club to go and , support the football club in it's efforts regardless of outsiders opinions .

Who cares what anybody else thinks ? We are LFC and need nobody to be ourselves , long may the club continue to ignore the status quo .

Kenny the Master forever .

"Who cares what anyone thinks"? Are you serious? You realize that the reputation and image of the club is a large reason why fans get up at odd hours all over the world to watch, to buy merchandise, and travel to Anfield when they get the chance? Get a clue

31 Dec 2011 19:46:00
If the FA upholds Suarez's 8 game ban, then the LAST of the 8 games he misses is the clash against none other Man Utd. To thin if the FA had not postponed their decision by that weekend, Suarez would have been available for that clash.
Stink of Ferguson's interference. Really hate the FA.

PITSILFC {Ed002's Note - I don't think we would know when it is. There is two weeks to appeal and then an unknown period before the appeal is heard.}

31 Dec 2011 19:41:49
when you look into this situation regarding suarez i think we just have to say
the ban is deserved, painting him as racist is irresponsible.
lets move on yesterday was a great result without him so its not the end of the world. we're mot a one man tean.
lfc all day

31 Dec 2011 19:40:47
What's happened has happened we coped without Suarez yesterday we've hopefully got some top players coming in the next few weeks so let's support the team. Shads did what he did and he's being punished for it if we continue to play like we against Newcastle it will be fantastic and Suarez can give us a masive boost when he comes back. Let's try to look at this as a positive.

31 Dec 2011 19:29:58
"We found Mr Evra to be an impressive witness. He gave his evidence to us in a calm, composed and clear manner............."

"..........the Commission asked Mr Evra why, then, did he not tell the referee that he had been called n****r, as opposed to black. Mr Evra's answer was that even when he pronounced the word "n*****s, it was not a word he liked to use"

"..........he (Comolli) received telephone calls from Canal+ who said that Mr Evra had been to see them in the tunnel after the game and said "I want to talk on TV. I want to report my record because I've been abused racially by Suarez ten times". The television representatives asked Mr Comolli if he was aware of this and he said "Yes, I am aware of what happened after the game, because Ferguson went to the changing room saying he's been abused five times"

"Mr Evra added, in his supplemental statement, that when he answered the question, he mentioned that a word had been said to him ten times. He told us that he did not mean this in the literal sense, it was just a way of talking"

While it is clear there seems to be some irregularities in the defence supplied by Suarez and Liverpool, and their version of events changes when presented with new evidence, I think calling Evra an impressive witness is a stretch of the imagination.

I will say having read the majority of the report; it looks very embarrassing for both Suarez and LFC.

31 Dec 2011 19:28:52
C'mon lads I thought no one player was bigger than the club? Yeah Suarez is banned but we still have 20 odd other players to get behind! We proved yesterday we don't need him to play well. Accept the ban and get on with. Noone likes it but what happened has happened and it's time to move on. Luis will come back stronger than ever but now we have to concentrate on getting behind the 11 players Kenny chooses to put on the field.

On another Craig Bellamy, what an effing legend. Under different circumstances, I would have loved to see him 'pit one on' Collocini. Can't wait for citeh!

Have a good night everybody and happy new year.
davethebutcher

Your right dave. But I can understand why people are pissed about the suarez ban. like myself. Have a happy new year mate and everyone else.

31 Dec 2011 19:26:41
The club, FA, and Evra don't believe that Luis, is a racist, that's good enough for me. He's got the 8 game ban which could be reduced pending appeal (if there is one). If the FA thought for one moment that Luis was racist, he would have got at least double the punishment he received (and rightly so). Like Canadian Red said, we make plans for life without Luis. Get 2 strkers in this January, not one.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed002's Note - I think that you may well be spot on there Blair.}

I agree, although I think we should get 1 striker, preferably Soldado and maybe another winger-cum striker and go for a front 3. Suarez-Soldado-(de Jong?)

Ash

What do you mean blair? you mean we think we should sell suarez and prepare without him in are team altogether or use maybe some of are summer budget to buy two instead of one striker while keeping suarez. Personally I always thought we needed a couple more strikers as carroll and kuyt are hardly prolific.

Danny

But blair you never know, we might not even get 1 striker In nevermind 2.I don't want us paying over the odds for players again.

Danny

What I mean is Danny mate.

I said if Luis was guilty of being a racist, then we should sell him asap. But the club, FA and Evra have all agreed, that he isn't. Which tbh mate, i'm glad they did. I still don't want any racists playing for our beloved club, but everyone agrees he isn't. I defo don't want to sell him now.

This is the buisness end of the season and losing a player like Luis for 8 games, could derail our Carling Cup, CL and FA cup hopes. It's the same as the Mancs losing Shrek, Arsenal losing Van Persie, Spuds losing Modric, Chelsea losing Torres (lol) for 8 games, they would struggle. We don't need a winger yet, because we've got Bellamy, Kuyt, Maxi, Henderson, Gerrard and Dowing, who can play on the wings. IMO we should make 2 strikers our main priority now. The 2 strikers I would love to see coming in would be, Gomez and Rossi.

But realistically, I would take De Jong and Bent.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed002's Note - REgardless of the racist issue Blair, I suspect there may still be significant repercussions for the player. This report will have caused very significant embarrassment for the owners who will additionally be concerned about any impact on sponsorship.}

Well in that case I agree with you mate. Suarez doesn't deserved to be bullied out of the club by the owners, by the opposition fans or by the manager. If he gets on with his football he should stay as we know he is a great player and is NOT a racist. Looks like de jong is the most likely and I would certainly have him. personally I would love higuain as I think he is just what we need a clinical finisher. but I suppose we will have to wait and see. thanks for explaining mate

Danny

I read an article on NESN, taken from The Boston Globe (I think) Ed mate. They said that Mr Henry and co, had zero tolerance for racism and were widely known and respected, for this stance in the US. This kind of publicity will never look good, but everyone concerned with this case agrees, he's not a racist. This is were FSG's PR machine, will have to work overtime. This could all have been avoided if Luis could've just kept his f^cking mouth shut.

I think we will appeal, if we do what do you think the outcome could be, thanks.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed002's Note - I doubt the verdict will be appealed. Until I read the report I thought the punishment would be appealed and still think it might. A secondary view will be around your above statement where perhaps the owners will not want this dragged out any more because I suspect it would bring more bad publicity. If there is an appeal then I would guess nothing will change and the punishment upheld. The reasons that would be used to support an appeal were presented as mitigation already - and they are dealt with on an issue-by-issue basis in the report.}

- This could all have been avoided if Luis could've just kept his f^cking mouth shut.

Blair, totally agreed mate. I've been saying this from the moment it started. What gets to me though is that evra is by no means innocent which makes it much tougher to stomach (BBC: "According to the report, Evra admitted that he begun the exchange with Suarez by referring to the Uruguayan's sister in Spanish.")

Cuchulainn's Hounds

I am reminded of another 'infamous' incident with Zidane and Materazzi (sorry if spelling is incorrect), did'nt it also start with comments about Zidanes sister or mother!.
Its sad that some footballers resort to this, and others are so easily provoked, then again we all have a certain 'breaking point'.
The problem is, everyone (fans and supporters alike) now know Luis Suarez's breaking point, so he will be in for 'extreme heckling" at every ground.
"Liability or Asset"??.
Food for thought.

Blair is full of she*p omg

Ed what r ur views abt the conduct of management after reading report on the statement that we relased after verdict and the T shirt fiasco at wigan.
I thought at time both were naïve and not good thinking and it has it seems left us isolated.
This was awful PR.

The club is far too self respecting to be concerned about the views of outsiders .

Few football clubs can comprehend the level of pride LFC takes within itself , we will continue to look after ourselves with the highest regard - irrespective of other opinions .

No problems by the way .

As far as I'm concerned the club has made it's stance perfectly clear and repeatedly so .

To be a 'Club' is to be a union with one goal , standing with each other and supporting those who are important .

The 'Club' cannot make itself any clearer than it already has and deserves the full support of fans to the end .

While the FA evidence looks quite damning, you must remember the context in which Suarez is suggesting it was used. Basically the comments made by Suarez are seen as no more racist in his culture than, for example, the phrase sweaty or taff or mick or paddy are in our culture. {Ed002's Note - You really need to read the report before submitting your embarrassing comments.}

31 Dec 2011 19:11:27
hey ed you said you expect liverppol to appeal to the punishment and not the findings?
1)if so would you expect the ban to get decreased
2)could suarez sue the FA or any tabloids for defamination of character (something i heard on twitter)
3) if nothing comes of an appeal would you expect liverpool to appeal to a higher court?
Thanks ED its good to get an unbiased view
lfc all day {Ed002's Note - (1) I don't know - the absolute minimum it could be reduced to is four. The club may decide that they wish to limit further publicity in relation to this matter and not appeal on the players behalf - no doubt they will take advice. (2) Certyainly not the FA. If a tabloid has published something libelous then he could take them to court and perhaps get an apology and financial compensation. I doubt this would happen whilst still at the club. (3) No.}

31 Dec 2011 19:08:23
The report states that they do not accept Suarez used the term the way it is used in his country on a daily basis but then says
We find that Mr Evra's use of the phrase "ten times" was a figure of speech and not meant to be taken literally. and that this is because sometimes in france they use this phrase, just this little snippet alone stinks of double standards.

Is not figure of speech and not taken literally the same as unreliable and inconsistent . he called him black isnt this want black people want to be called . bemused {Ed002's Note - I assume that you have just read the headline and not the report. I also think you may well be under estimating the potential fall out and implications from this.}

No I read the report and would stand by my original thoughts, My argument would not be one along the race issue it would be about fair treatment. evidence presented by Evra has been accepted because it is part of his culture yet evidence by suarez has not been accepted on the same grounds had they both been accepted equally then the FA could have released a statement that said unfortunately Mr Suarez has commited an act that whilst acceptible in his culture is not acceptible here. they could have then taken the route of the four match ban they should have imposed (the two matches had he been sent off plus the doubling on being found guilty). All I would say is they seem to have gone out of their way to show PE in a good light when they could have used the same reasoning to have saved LS being slaughtered as he is. {Ed002's Note - There is no way that you have read the report if that is what you think.}

We now turn to consider the exchanges individually. We remind ourselves that Mr Evra
started the conversation with an offensive phrase. Although the literal translation is
particularly offensive, Mr Evra's use of the phrase should be understood in the sense of
" hell" or "you son of a bitch", as the Spanish language experts suggest.

Dont want to get into an argument with you 002 If you read the report it is littered with statements like the above in support of PE I understand LS should be punished for what he said but still feel both parties were not treated equally in this case {Ed002's Note - There was no case agaisnt Evra. It was Suarez who was charged.}

Yes but it was one mans word against another in this case the sun shone out of one mans and the other was the devil in disguise! {Ed001's Note - not true at all. The only issue is why Evra has not also been charged with a minor misconduct charge.}

31 Dec 2011 19:05:57
I am a little bit surprised that people are putting so much time to debate the Suarez-Evra report. Aren't we all football fans? The FA has ruled. Luis has been banned. I can guarantee you that the truth is probably not worth writing a 100+ pages about. I am a black man of 36 and the last thing I would ever do is to put a 24 year-old or a 30 year-old footballer (how old is Evra anyway?) on a moral pedestal. Footballers are just like everyone else, they do very stupid things sometimes and you know what ... good for them! Eight, six or 5 games are the same. The club will have to carry on without him, same as if he were injured. What else is there to say? Now, allow me to wish you all a happy 2012 (no matter who you support) and to open my first beer of the day.

Canadian Fan

Lets not let all this detract from the fact Utd lost 2-3 today.

31 Dec 2011 18:49:51

'We found Mr Suarez, in contrast, to be an unreliable witness on critical parts of his evidence. His evidence was inconsistent with contemporaneous evidence in the form of video footage, especially with regard to his claims of pinching as an attempt to defuse the situation, and using the word "negro" in a conciliatory and friendly way. He changed his account over time in a number of respects. This all combined to cast grave doubt on the reliability of the remainder of his evidence on the main factual disputes.'

31 Dec 2011 18:45:15
I've not read the whole report just the report on the BBC website but, in summary, it appears that the panel believe Evra to be a credible witness and Suarez to be a less than credible witness and therefore they have given more credence to Evra's testimony than Suarez's. Coud this be the same Evra who was a less than credible witness at the FA hearing into an altercation with a Chelsea groundsman? {Ed002's Note - That is dealt with in the report and was not considered. Before anyone screams that it should be, a particular previous incident relating to Suarez was also ignored. It would make a lot of sense to read the full report.}

31 Dec 2011 18:43:21
So, let me get this straight.

Evra claims that Luis had said 'Becuase your are black' + 'I don't speak to blacks'

Yet he doesn't think Suarez is a racist?

Is it just me or is that extremely inconsistent?

Stu. {Ed002's Note - It is just you. It is perfectly possible to make offensive remarks referring to race in the heat of the moment without being a racist. Nobody is accusing Suarez of being a racist.}

The report supports Ed2 in saying he is not a racist -
'We do not believe that Mr Suarez meant it when he said that he had kicked Mr Evra because he was
black or that he did not speak with blacks. The comments were made in the heat of the moment. They were not said with the deliberate intention of getting Mr Evra sent off. When provoked, Mr Suarez overstepped the mark and responded in a way which is unacceptable.'

No its not just you. You dont say I dont speak to blacks in the heat of the moment. Anybody hearing that would think its racist. Plus an incosistency is that Evra states that when he had said Suarez used the term 'at least 10 times' was merely a figure of speech. Thus he is saying that the term wasnt used as many times which means he was exaggerating yet that didn't affect th FA's line of thought. {Ed002's Note - You clearly have not read the report. You need to also distinguish between someone being a racist and someone simply making a racist remark.}

31 Dec 2011 18:41:00
'Mr Suarez's account of his admitted use of the word "negro" changed several times. He seemed unsure of when the admitted use took place and what triggered it. His account seemed to change in an attempt to fit in with the video evidence.'

'This finding is in line with Mr Suarez's original recollection that he made this comment after touching Mr Evra's head. However, what remained troubling was the way in which Mr Suarez was prepared to change his account having apparently formed the view that it was contradicted in this respect by the video evidence.'

31 Dec 2011 18:39:37
just seen on sky sports the written report has been made public.
they state the reasons why Suarez has received an eight match ban is because in laymans terms they(the FA) believe Evra over Suarez - the FA also state that they do not believe suarez to be a racist as does evra yet they feel as he used the word n***o 7 times the ban is proportionate- as if suarez had been sent of for verbal abuse it would be a 2 game ban, as it was racially motivated then it would be doubled to 4 and because he used the word 7 times they thought 8 game ban was right.

this raises the following points in my head
1. he was not sent off for verbal abuse - therefore the referee did not hear it
2. evra said he used the word 7 times, suarez said he used it but not in a racial manner( friendly term in south america) so the FA believe evra
3. if a case is "his word" against mine - how can the case be proven?

surely LFC will appeal this decision and get the ban reduced,
i believe that Suarez is guilty of using the word, as he has admitted but not in the context the evra has portrayed it.evra has also admitted using abusive language and a threat of physical violence to suarez and therefore should face the same charges.
i would accedpt a 2 game ban and the fine and believe suarez has learnt that the use of the word in the EPL could be construed as racist and offensive and has promised not to use it again.
if i had been accused of such an offence at work and received a disciplinary record for such an offence i would appeal and take it to an independant tribunal to have it removed from my record - and i would win because of the lack of evidence.his word against mine does not stand up, there has to be independant witnesses to colaborate evidence.

bigg2966 {Ed002's Note - You need to read the report. Your summary is not even close to what it says.}

31 Dec 2011 18:35:38
Even as a Red it looks like Suarez's evidence was a real shambles. This is in the report -

Not only did we reject this evidence of Mr Suarez, but we found it remarkable that he sought to advance a case that was so clearly inconsistent with any sensible appreciation of what happened. Even Mr McCormick accepted in his closing submissions that the pinching could not reasonably be described as an attempt to defuse the situation. To suggest otherwise, as Mr Suarez did, was unarguable. Mr Suarez's evidence on these topics, which was shown to be flawed, profoundly undermined our confidence in the reliability of his evidence.

{Ed002's Note -

Is punching some one going to defuse the situation. id rather be pinched than punched

31 Dec 2011 18:25:48
I have read the findings and they dont look good for Suarez.

The panel believe Evra has no motive to lie about the version of events.

They also think that although Suarez's grand farther is black, his teams are black and he has black friends, people in the heat of the moment when under pressure say or do things out of charachter.

Also Suarez's version of events is a lot shorter than Evra's and based on the video evidence there was ample time for Evra's version of events to have occured.

In conclusion because Suarez's version of events has more inconsistentcies than Evra's they have chosen to believe Evra's version of events.

Bet we will buy a striker now the FA have released the findings. Might mean Kuyt stays as well.

And yes, in addition to my other comments regarding the judgement, I believe this accelerates even more our need for a goal scoring striker.

I would just like to say well done to the lads yesterday we played well and finished the game off. Gerrard gave us the impetus to go for the throat and kill the game off and i can see this being a massive turning point, especially with the other teams around us drawing.
I hope Suarez's appeal goes well because Gerrard will inevitably help the lad find his goal scoring prowess, and his pin point passing also aided Carroll yesterday, heres to 2012, The Return of the Kings, into top four anyway, hopefully! Haha

Hi eds - please could you shed some light on whether liverpool will appeal the suarez case - it seems very biased toward evra in there findings. It certainly wouldn't have a weighting in court as its one word against another and they are just accepting evras word as gospel.

Cheers once again eds and happy newyear ! You do great work on here !

Suarezinnocentynwa {Ed002's Note - It is tough to see how you see it as biased - did you read the entire report? As I said before, I don't think they will appeal the findings, but I think they will put together a case to appeal the punishment.}

Evra should get punished as they said it was an agrument and didnt evra admit to calling suarez something that was abusive towards south americans? and the fact that he admitted does not change anything as suarez admitted to calling evra negritto i think {Ed002's Note - Read the damn report. There is every reason to agree that Evra should be held to account - but the charges were against Suarez and not Evra.}

I've read the whole report and to be honest, if he did indeed say those things, an 8 week ban is pretty lenient.

I think any appeal based on what I've read is pointless and if the club are not careful, they could even increase the length of the ban.

I have no love for Evra or an Manc player and I know he can be a whining s**t, but the issue at hand is beyond player and club.

We shouldn't be blinkered just by the fact that we love Suarez as a player and will naturally back him, but now the decision has been made and reasons published.

Will accept any verdict if it is fair. {Ed002's Note - There is no doubt that he was given a fair hearing and the report explains in detail what mitigation was accepted and what was rejected in terms of the punishment.}

FA have published the evidence from the Suarez Evra case.

115 pages !

Evra's statement

5. The FA's case, in short, was as follows. In the goalmouth, Mr Evra and Mr Suarez spoke to each other in Spanish. Mr Evra asked Mr Suarez why he had kicked him, referring to the foul five minutes previously. Mr Suarez replied "Porque tu eres negro", meaning "Because you are black". Mr Evra then said to Mr Suarez "say it to me again, I'm going to punch you". Mr Suarez replied "No hablo con los negros", meaning "I don't speak to blacks". Mr Evra continued by saying that he now thought he was going to punch Mr Suarez. Mr Suarez replied "Dale, negro, negro, negro", which meant "okay, blackie, blackie, blackie". As Mr Suarez said this, he reached out to touch Mr Evra's arm, gesturing at his skin. Mr Kuyt then intervened. When the referee blew his whistle and called the players over to him shortly after the exchanges in the goalmouth, Mr Evra said to the referee "ref, ref, he just called me a eff black".

Video evidence !

12. During the interview, the FA and Mr Evra watched some video footage of the match. Mr Evra pointed out to the FA, by reference to the video footage, when it was during the match that Mr Suarez made the comments about which Mr Evra had complained. This information enabled the FA to ask broadcasters to provide video footage of what appeared to be the key moments of the game, so far as Mr Evra's complaint was concerned. This video footage was provided in due course. It contained material which was not broadcast, including footage of the exchanges in the penalty area in the 63rd minute taken from a number of different camera angles.

Not looking good for any appeal based on that. Although Evra's statement is entirely uncorroborated.

However, IF Suarez has admitted the above 8 games seems a light punishment..... {Ed002's Note - You need to read the entire report not just pull a couple of paragraphs.}

The FA and Evra, have both admitted that they both don't think Luis is racist. This could help, in his appeal.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed002's Note - There is no question that he is a racist Blair. The appeal will likely be against the harshness of the punishment rather than against the findings of the case.}

Im confused Ed, the FA find him guilty then say they don't think he is a racist?

Can you explain why the.FA said this, its to complicated for me, thanks.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed002's Note - He was not charges with being a racist - and there is no question that he might be a racist. He was charged with using offensive language and that in doing so he referred to Evra's origin, colour etc.. The evidence he gave immediately, and then later in writing and verbally after seeing the additional video footage saw him repeatedly change his story. You should take an hour or two to read the full report and I think it will be very clear. Certainly one can make a racist comment without being a racist, particularly in the heat of the moment. But the report will be at the very least very embarrassing for the owners of the club.}

Hes not racist ed2 mister know it all. if you were south american you could have a case. but since you are not your views will be different and therefore would want to punish without finding the reason behind the word and meaning. because you/media don't think about foreigners and their culture. {Ed002's Note - What sort of idiot are you? I have been defending Suarez as not being a racist. The problem people like you have is that you don't read all of the words - or if you do, somehow they don't sink in.}

If there is audio evidence why hasnt this been broadcast as this is surely evidence. reason why because there isnt any. {Ed002's Note - There was additional video evidence presented to the panel.}

Ed2 not trying to have a go but maybe you should have said their is no question he is NOT a racist. instead of their is no question he is a racist as it implies he is unquestionably a racist {Ed002's Note - I would agree if that is what I said, but I didn't.}

And the word that is missing im not having a go ed i just feel that the terminology of the reply implies he is a racist and have read many posts which you clearly defend him i just feel the above reply is not very clear once again i am not having a go nor am i defending suarez he was big enough to open his mouth therefore he should be big enough to deal with the implications of his actions {Ed001's Note - it is perfectly clear to me, perhaps it is your understanding of the English language that is the problem?}

No ed i understand the response fully now it has been altered and the words might be have been inserted it gives the response a totally different context as i carefully copied the response (nice touch up though) either way it is clear now {Ed001's Note - it couldn't be altered, the only people capable of making the changes are sat right here now. Ed002 doesn't have the ability to go back and alter previous posts, just to remove a thread altogether. The two of us that have the capability to do so have been having a meal and so not even at a computer.}

Great to see Stevie back again. his crossing was outstanding, just shows what happens when a player with a bit of creativity and guile plays. without Stevie we were just trying to play in wingers who barely crossed the ball. im not a fan of downing but he played well. The only player in history we need is to get Torres back to where he belongs and if you cant keep up to what ya all sing"Youll never walk alone" then you should change te words to "youll never walk alone" whils at Liverpool but youll always walk alone if you leave us!! Forgett the past everybody deserves a second chance!!
Torres is and will always be Liverpool!

I thought I'd make a correction,

Torres was and never again will be Liverpool

RenegadeRed

First and foremost, to everyone who keeps banging on about Torres, just leave it. He's moved on to different club, it was hs decision to push for it and now he's dealing with his misfortune. He said stuff that was offensive to Liverpool fans and isn't welcomed back, thats why 'you'll never walk alone' doesn't apply to him. It still applies to those who are with us and those that have left Liverpool with their dignity. Also if thers's anyone player who I'd want back now (considering current ability) is Xabi Alonso.

Torres plays for money,he cares nothing for any badge,colour of any shirt or songs that fans sing. Torres is purely motivated by cash. He used to be motivated by ego and cash,but has been humiliated to the point it is now bank balance alone that is his focus.

Absolutely. Xabi was proper Red and remains so. I'd love to see him back with us. That's not looking backwards instead of forwards, as we should be doing; it's just that he would enhance any team, and given his ongoing affection for LFC, who wouldn't have him? Not that it's likely to happen, of course, but we can always dream.

This turns out to be a pretty good day for us. I tell you what it feels much better to be a Liverpool fan than a Chelsea fan. If they can 'attract' names in January, so can we. They are a mess at the moment.

bent on the bench against chelsea... went shopping when we beat the Villans. what's goin on 'ere then?

31 Dec 2011 16:28:10
So we end the year in 5th (joint 4th if Villa do us a favour..) and yet people come on and still moan and complain about our current standing in the league......perhaps they would like to reflect and consider our league position this time last year, 12th with 22 points or the year before 7th with 33 points.

No doubt the moaners will say we are only 2/3 places and 1 point better off than 2 years ago, but I don't think they can doubt the style of football is so much better to watch. We are a team in transition, no sorry a club in transition and I feel we are heading in the right direction and believe what we are seeing are the roots of a new dawn at Anfield, a young side playing good football, a top player in Luis and the return of the second best player I have ever seen in a red shirt Stevie G (Kenny being the first). We have a stable and solid back four, a steady midfield, though with Stevie back (and when fit Lucas) without doubt on par with any top 4 team. As mentioned we have Luis a magical (and frustrating, at times) player fit to grace any team...this brings me to a playing partner, having watched Andy Carroll closely during the last 2 games you can see there is a talent waiting to explode and hopefully a run in the team playing with Stevie firing in those crosses we may just get to see that talent, be honest only for a little bit of luck he could have had 3 goals in the last 2 games and what a difference that would have made to us/him!.....and yes I know he should have controlled the pass from Stevie and scored, but we've all seen Rushie, Fowler and Torres miss chances....here's hoping 2012 brings all us reds the success we dream of and that the boys continue to progress as they have done in the last 12 months.....all the best for the New Year fellow reds, have a good one! - TMac

Hear hear good post
Carlos79

Plus a good few of the draws we've had down to poor finishing. At least the chances are being created.

Quite agree. We now have 34 points off 19 games, exactly half way. If we go on playing like this in theory that is 68 points by the end of the season. That was good enough for 4th last year. Moreover, if you look at our past 38 competitive games we have a record that would translate into 73 points over a season, enough for 2nd place last year. Coupled with the good chance that surely we will play better in the 2nd half of the season, the shots that have hit the woodwork will start to go in, Andy will get the sort of service he needs from Stevie G, Suarez will come back refreshed, and hopefully Downing will carry on like he he has in the past two matches, there is plenty of room for optimism. And that's without factoring in any players we buy in January. Arsenal's squad is paper-thin, and Chelsea (thrashed at home by Villa!) are clearly in the sort of trouble that throwing money at won't solve overnight. CL football next year is ours to lose. Hope all fellow Reds have a good New Year.
-SH-

We have the spuds, arsenal and chelsea all at home in the second half of the season. If we manage to go on a good run with the other teams and pick up 3 points from these games I don't see any reason as to why we can't finish 3rd. At least in the mix thereabouts.

Dont keep saying that Blackburn's result at Utd makes our result seem ok. Drawing with bottom of the league at home is never a good result.

Them beating United doesnt change the fact that they are an abysmal team. Lets not make excuses for ourselves.

Rewflo

I don't give a toss who beats the Mancs, Rewflo mate. As an LFC fan it brings a smile to my fa everytime they get stuffed.

Did it not bring a smile to your face, after todays result at OT?

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

What wasn't ok Rewflo was people calling for Dalglish to be sacked - that's the point I want to make.

Hey guys get real here...we won , united and chelski lost...HAPPY DAYS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR for us.

Anyone who calls for KK to go is a plantpot

Tel1949

Fair point dd.

I'm never really too bothered about Mancs to be fair Blair. To quote Rafa "I'm just focussing on my team."

Its just my opinion that other teams results shouldnt have any bearing on whether we consider our results good or not. I dont think that just because blackburn beat Manchester united that our result against them was good, all it does to me is highlight how poor united are not how good blackburn are.

I cannot wait until tomorrow to see the news we have signed Roberto Carlos, Franco Beresi, Beckenbour, Cafu, Johan Cruyff Maradona, Pele and Puskas to compliment Pepe, Stevie and Luis and help us go on a run to win the league this year.

Ooops, sorry, I was sleeping again.

Jock mate reckons Jelavic is good enough for us.I aint got clue about him.Your view please Ed? {Ed002's Note - I have no idea but others may.}

31 Dec 2011 15:52:59
Ed just a view(unsure some posters, let you have anymore,without being called Manc etc)Would you use Suarez in a Modric role?He'd get more room,open defences.As he appears playmaker more than out and out Goalscorer

Maybe not quite as deep as modric, I'd play him more like Messi at Barca in the false number 9 role. I do agree he is more creative than clinical and with the space inbetween mid and def lines he will score more.

Rewflo

I was thinking that too in a 4-2-3-1, Suarez in the middle Gerrard on the right Downing or Bellamy on the left on the left, it could be very fluid aswell.

GuvTOB

I don't think he pays much attention to formations, suarez always plays everywhere

31 Dec 2011 15:52:49
With Danny Wilson on loan to Blackpool it looks like Shelvey will be staying with us for the rest of the season rather than going back to Blackppol on loan. Good news!

Not a rumour or anything, but going for a pint (or 10) soon so would like to take this opportunity to wish all my fellow reds a very happy new year and thanks to all the Eds for all their ongoing hard work. This really is the best site on the web. If i had one wish for the new year i would ask all reds to get behind our great club, manager and fans (on and off the pitch), sure we will disagree on players, tactics etc but what has made us the greatest club in the world is us (the fans), so come on, in 2012 lets be positive, positive and positive at all times.Think back just over a year ago and see how far we have come.

Post of the day for me.

Too right there mate, less of the negativity and more of the support! You really don't know what's going to happen in the 2nd half of the season. Happy New Year to reds fans everywhere! Good luck for 2012! Slainte!

at start of season, it was man u fans telling us how they were going to beat barca, signing unrealistic targets as they are broke and owners bleeding them dry. a few months on the mighty basel and blackburn are turning them over with ease. (lol) man u fans are a carrolls biggest critics for two reasons.
1) they dont like liverpool having 35 million to spend on one player.
2) cover over there own bad purchases
30 m berbatov (flop)
18 m carrick (flop)
20m young (flop)
20m jones (too small for centre half,
average in midfield)
we had stevie g out for half season, if we had him and man u were missing rooney in the first half of season we would be second. just look at the last game for each club.
cant wait for second half of season.

B o H

Even as an LFC fan, Phil Jones is a very good player, both in CDM and CB, the money paid for him will prove to be worth it, unlike Young.

Bit OTT there mate, Berbatov scores goals, Carrick is Alonsos favourite midfielder, Young has done more than downing and has only played a few games, Jones is a beast of a player that i would love to have seen sign for LFC.

Spot the manc above ^^^^ happy new year

We destroyed Blackburn last week, they didn't deserve nothing but got a point. The Mancs deserved nothing and that's what they got, nothing.

Would love to hear from the Mancs that felt the need to post, their constructive criticism (bullsh*ep) after Blackburn scraped a draw, against us.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

I have just been trawling through all the tripe that the United fans posted on here after the Blackburn game Blair; you should do the search it's fun to read. Particularly Disney! with his 'ambulance chasing' style of banter.

You should also read his prediction on the United page a few days ago saying they will score a load of goals against Blackburn..............

JRG

Cheers JRG mate, that's the 1st time i've used the search engine. Had to use my PC, to remind certain Mancs, of what they said and posted it on their page. I'd be very supprised if I get any 'agrees' today. lol

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Yes but we lose 1-0 to fulham then man utd beat them was it 4 or 5 nil, comparisons like that just cannot be made

Lol Blair mate I have seen your use of the search engine on the United page! I think you right not many agrees today.

I like the fact they suggest you only visit their site when United lose! Yeah that is nothing like Sydney and the other United posters who come on this site when we have drawn. As I say 'ambulance chasers'

Keep it up Blair mate.

No it doesn't, we should have beat Blackburn. Just because United made a balls of it too doesn't mean we're allowed to get off the hook.

I would like an apology off all the doom mongers and idiots who called for Kenny head after Blackburn game. The same team who have just passed the scum of OT. If they do not respond can you all scroll through the history and name and shame them.
P.s like the look of Morris for Blackburn. Young player with promise.

Taff calm down you fool, great result today yes but last week we murdered Blackburn and yet we only took a point. This has been the story of our season to date.

Get real Taff u no I'm right...

Do you realise the error of your ways. We battered Blackburn and were unlucky to only have a point. As you say story of our season. we have been unlucky. But we have not lost to these teams. We are not far away from giving teams a hiding. We just need to click or find that missing jigsaw piece.
Step forward Stevie G. The futures bright, the futures gerrard.

31 Dec 2011 14:10:40
Looking at the game last night and since Lucas has been out, the problem is the midfield Adam can't defend and his passing and shooting with his good left foot has been very poor with a couple of exceptions. Henderson doesn't offer anything at all never makes a tackle pulls out of tackles stops a couple of yards short when closing down always looking for the safe option never got forward untill Gerrard come on, and then he was like a different player. Downing on the right doesn't help as the times it's set up for a right foot cross in the box he comes back to his left and by the time he decides to cross with his right carrol has lost out on the chance as the defence is now set for the cross. Carrol's trouble is he comes to deep to get himself involved that by the time the ball gets to the box he has to much ground to make up to be were he should be, because you have the 3 midfielders holding hands doing the same job. Which when Gerrard come on he looked a lot more dangerous because he had Gerrard looking for the ball further forward so he could stay and wait for the ball and not go looking to do the midfields job.

31 Dec 2011 14:01:45
Hey all, not sure my last post got posted so I was after a bit of advise, I am going to the stoke game on the 14th, where is a good place that you would recommend staying over night? there is 3 of us coming from Norfolk.

Many Thanks
Elliot YNWA

Stay at any of the hotels on the albert dock. Book a taxi up to the ground in good time though, although the buses are quite close and very regular. You will be close to town in the evening....we went to Carras restaurant Cafe Sports England in the evening....had a great night. Need to book though...see on internet
KJS

There are plenty of managed apartments in the city centre which are top notch and will work out cheaper than a hotel. Worth a look. Just google it.

Oh.....thank God it was just a dream (PHEW!).

Macca question for you ( maybe the Eds may know)..

Is it true that when Torres was still at Liverpool and Chelsea came sniffing, Torres gave Liverpool the ultimatum 'match Chelsea's wages and he will stay or don't and he's off'?

Is this the reason while Carroll was signed as Carroll is English, protential, big, powerful and great left foot

Can people just shut up asking questions on Torres he's left now and will never be the same player again RIP Fernando.

happy new year to everyone
i don't come on here and moan, this is the first time in fact because i think you should always support your team, but yesterday i was so dissapointed in
glen johnson theres is no excuse for him at any level.
he was so bad he kept passing to newcastle wats gone wrong with him ed.
was pleased with andy yesterday he tried so hard . but the delivery was not to good. the fans were a bit better last nite but only when we were winning , so come on please sing more.
doing a fab job eds.

all the best
chrissy {Ed001's Note - hard to say, perhaps it was just too easy for him? We saw last season, when he played on the left, he has plenty of ability and can be fantastic. Maybe the challenge of playing out of position made him concentrate more, because to me he just seems like his mind is elsewhere.}

I agree with you chrissy, i think glen johnson time is up now!
i really think for the best of the team he should move this window, kelly should be starting now.
johnson needs too much help/cover thats why downing is playing on right instead of left, kuyt/hendersen who are outta position runs lots, but downing covers n provides more even on weaker side.
maybe his mind is else where, realising everyone who is getting grief/abuse
(carrol/hendersen/downing) is doing so coz johnson wont play on the wing? my mind would be elsewhere too if it was my fault, confidence was low or outta form, coz of my selfish overpaid cry baby bum!

Maybe he relaxed because he knows he can't be dropped due to contractual issues?!

I agree jay spearing is a really important player for Liverpool especially now that Lucas is injured. He is a sure starter against city. It will be interesting to see if he goes with three in the centre of midfield against City and if we risk Gerrard.

As much as we all want Stevie G to start we dont want him to be out for rest of the season. But spearing gets stuck in and gets the others playing at vital times.

As i said last night cabayes tackle on him was a bad challenge. A lot worse than the one spearing got sent off for. But spearing is becoming a really important player for our club and i love his passion.

dont be satisfied with result yesterday...we liverpool,top team in the world..think what dream and what the mission for liverpool..we need to challenge the title,not just to win 1 or 2 games..liverpool need more quality ..to ensure we can challenge title next year..liverpool really2 need to buy striker,with clinical in in front of goal..please check top score table..what you can see is?you can see the striker score 10 to 16 goal from another club..where liverpool striker?suarez 5 goal...liverpool really2 need striker who can challenge top of scorer table...to ensure that liverpool can challenge the title..you can see quality in bellamy and maxi..came from free transfer but high scoring quality...while both of them came play,both of them can score goal..but bellamy and maxi have old age...them cant play every single game like daglish said..please liverpool buy the high quality scorer..i love liverpool..i cant see liverpool down and down again...please prove that liverpool not a historical team and can be stored in museum...

Did anybody else feel that we seemed more of a team last night?

Suarez is an outstanding player but I think recently when he's been on the pitch he has tried to do far too much himself and the team also seems to expect far too much of him.

Be interesting to see if in next game we finish our chances as much as we did last night, just a funny coincidence that Suarez is out and our conversion rate increases.

Great post exactly what i put on yesterday.
Suarez is a great player but i think we rely on him to much to do the closing down etc.
All the other players needed to up their game and most of them did.

Think that's a tad bit unfair on Suarez. We only looked like a real team yesterday when Gerrard came on the pitch. That's because all the players feel more confident when God is on the pitch. For the last few matches Suarez has been trying to do it all, both create and finish...now with Gerrard back he knows that there's someone else capable of creating. Now we just sit back and watch his goals fly in.

-Shane.

Hey Ed's this one is for ed 001 Ed do u thik liverpool will sign more players in jan than summer
{Ed001's Note - no, I only expect a couple in this January, unless we sell a lot. The summer could see more business, but it will depend on where we finish in the league.}

31 Dec 2011 11:43:32
To be out for practically a year and drive through newcastles defence and finish with his weaker foot through the keepers legs from an acute angle was absolute class, weve missed him so much!
Having him back is gonna give the whole club a lift YNWA

Eds regarding podalski if first team place is guaranteed would he be willing to join us??Cause frankly with his class i dont think he would be on bench....is there a good chance of him arriving?? {Ed001's Note - he will not be guaranteed first team football with us, Kenny will not do that.}

31 Dec 2011 11:37:59
Who was the manager who said passing was not about long or short pass but the right pass?

Gerrard showed the way last night and hopefully will give the others some confidence to be a bit more direct.

31 Dec 2011 11:29:28
Ed, what are the chances of buying nobody this January? To be honest I think there's only one thing we need: time. Thanks Ed, love the site btw. {Ed001's Note - we do need time, I fully agree with that, we are playing good footie, once it clicks we will be fine.}

31 Dec 2011 11:28:45
Eds we all no we need a forward. But do you think kenny will go of prem exp ( defoe, bent,) or someone from outside the league ? {Ed001's Note - outside the league, there is no value in the league, all the strikers in the Prem demand ridiculous wages.}

Afternoon Ed001 I hope you are well today, I actually think Bent would be a player who would come to Liverpool for the chance to play for us over the money. I've always thought he really would love to prove himself at a genuine big club and remember there are only 2 big clubs in England, us and united

When you actually look at our squad we have the strongest spine in the league. I believe we only need one addition and that would be a rightsided player in midfield, someone with a of bit craft.
3rd place this season and throw in a league cup.
EVERYONE ELSE IN THE LEAGUE NEXT SEASON BE VERY AFRAID !

Aguero, silva, yaya, kompany and hart is probably the strongest to be fair.

Ash

Suarez, Gerrard, Lucas, Agger and Reina are definetly the strongest.

Can't believe no-one has mentioned what a great game jay had last night the way he was going into tackles shows what scouse pride is all about! Well done lad!

Thought the same,the only person he didnt tackle was the ref,jimmybosun,

You deserved to win but Newcastle were awful 4/5 players off their game anyway well done but you'll get stuffed at St James and wont get silly freekicks in front of 52000 Geordies

On sauce already?!

im absolutely over the moon in general at the way things are shaping up for the rest of the season. we are in a fight, not just for 4th, i believe spuds will hit a dry patch soon and fight for automatic CL qualification is on. stevies back! a massive boost, for the team in general, for the younger players and for the fans.. we have always been at our best in the second half of the season and i believe it will be no different in 2012. downing is a decent player, needs a bit more lift in his crosses to beat 1st man, but the whip is there. stevie could spend an hour with him on the training pitch showing him how its done. watch carroll become an animal as he tears through defenders as he grows in confidence with improved delivery from gerrard. i will be disappointed if we dont finish top 4 after the progress we have shown over last 12 months but unlike some 'fans', i wont be calling for heads to roll if we dont. we are called SUPPORTERS for a reason, SUPPORT YOUR TEAM!

Ryan C (Belfast) YNWA!

Having stevie back is like the transfer window has opened early and we have bought the best midfielder in the world,

sunderland fan here, congrats for the win against the spam, I think Carroll will come good just needs abit better service, funny how suarez was banned and you win comfortabley, should of heard the sad geordies saying they would beat you on their site now the excuses are out

Been saying it for a while, when Suarez plays everything has to go through him, he gets all the opportunities and everyone else seems to just expect him to do something. Until he finds his shooting boots we will struggle when he plays.

Chuck Norris

I think your suffering from media fever! Suarez created his own opportunities most of the time by regaining possession on his own. You have to look at chances wasted by Adam, Henderson, Downing, Carroll and Kuyt. Fact is they have all not been good enough in front of goal so dont blame it all on Suarez - you should be lucky he is in our squad.

jose enrique, What a great signing! A must for a Spanish cap

You seen Jordi Alba play?

Chuck Norris

Yep. Not a patch on Enrique. Good offensively, shocking at the other end. The only reason Enrique isn't a regular in the Spanish national team is because he plays in the Premier League, like Reina. Both are the best players in their respective positions available to the Spanish.

Martin

Probably the best and most underrated, Spanish player in existence.

For all the people slating Andy Carroll. yesterday highlight, his game (as many of the great forwards) relies on the service he receives. With Steven Gerrard on, he started to receive some fantastic service and began to look like a threat every time the ball was knocked into the box, looked sharp and hungry and with a little luck should have had a goal and maybe a penalty. the only worrying thing is why other players cannot provide the service that Gerrard can. Yesterday proved how good Gerrard is and reminded everybody why Torres scored so many goals, his vision and passes cannot be replicated by anyone in the premiership, pure class. With Gerrards service Carroll will come good, he cannot fail

everd

Totally agree with what you say, Carroll just needs to lose his man and get the free header like someone else mentioned earlier, we're on the up.

Hi ed's just a crazy thought cause its new year and all... We all know that Carroll's big issue is confidence If we could get every fan to cheer when he comes out.. Imagine the feeling that would give him, he would know that we are 100% behind him and I reckon his confidence would shoot up tenfold!

The southern red

Sure that would help. No pressure... Lol

To all the moaners regarding Hendo Carroll and Adam
It's a big shirt to wear when you sign for LFC, expectations go up 10 fold, you are expected not only to win but play with style, it takes some getting use to.. They all have the ability they just need a little time.. 2011 has been a great transition, the only thing missing is putting the ball in the net.., so support the lads and moan at your missus instead
Pistol pete

My Missus moans at me...in fact she has left! Still do not have to listen to it anymore!
Iggypop

Well said pete, just 99% of the negative lfc fickle fan bashers. aint got a mrs!!

1 question tho. downing on the right?
is it because johnston needs lots of cover from his wide man infront?
ie. dirk, does lots of running great to see but no end product, but covers/helps johnston lots.
hendersen when played there, same answer again. bellamy should play but cant help/cover johnston, coz of knees i`m guessing, so bellamy plays on left, wrong foot for him! however enrique does`nt need help/cover coz he`s top class!
so downing plays there lots of running, covers/helps johnston n better chance of end product.
if thats true? then we should be blaming johnston for downing/carroll/hendersen so called poor form/play. coz in fact they all are being affected coz of johnston`s contract demands n poor play or form! n all the abuse they get, should be directed towards johnston. who refuses to play on right wing n stopping kelly from getting a game, who is a better defender!!
my answer sell johnston asap! this transfer window!! then buy a right winger with cash, keep everyone else. everyone can play in natural positions n no spoilt over paid cry babies at club any more. happy days eh!
only my opinion tho. great site. happy new year to all of ya ed`s, ya do an amazing job, deciphering everyone`s ramblings. lol
let the disagrees commence. lol
dbadger...

Probably KK's reason for playing Bellamy and Downing where like they do is so that they can cut inside onto their stronger foot and leave space for overlapping fullbacks

Redpath

Downing was better on the left and combined very well with Enrique earlier in the season. Hopefully we bvuy a RW and he stays on the left.

Was such a relief to actually turn all that domination into some proper points for a change.
We can all see that Andy Carroll is working his socks off, and whilst he's a Liverpool lad we must pump him up and get solidly behind him. But let's be completely frank and honest about this. He is not up to it. Pure and simple. He is ungainly, immobile, does nothing quickly enough, and his touch is reminiscent of the way torres's became in his last year at anfield. His hold up play is ok, and he's strong and decent in the air, and he'll bag a couple if Stevie stays fit. Hell, I could bag a couple if Stevie stays fit, such is that boys quality. I just feel there's a fair bit of denial going on here, and I appreciate that we must get behind the red shirt- but I just don't see Andy Carroll being any sort of solution.

I thought we had the 1st or 2nd best defence in the league. With this being so how come Carrol actually smashed OUR defence single handedly while playing against us. He might look ungainly but when the boy is on form he is unstoppable.

First of all i'd like to say how happy i am with this year and hope for better things for the remainder of the season. I would also like to say that when we had H&G as owners as Hodgson as manager, we used to moan even when we won due to the fact our football was dire. At the time we wished for a change and guess what, IT HAPPENED. We have new owners and a manager playing inspiring and attacking football. You could actually be watching a great team from yesteryear such is the style of our play. I feel that this negativity affected alot of fans who even when winning were not happy. Our once great fans (albeit rightly so at times) started booing managers and players alike and the once great roar of the kop started to dwindle. It was as if a sickness engulfed us all.
So this my friends SHOULD BE OUR COLLECTIVE NEW YEARS RESOLUTION;
Have a reality check and realise we truly are on the up. The days of a bad manager and owners have disappeared. All the bad feelings in club have gone. I understand some of you don't like certain players, buy hey, its the same at every club. Lets all start the year off as new fans and get back to what we are because I truly believe we are in for a great ride. We might not win a trophy or a cup this year and we shall all be gutted but as long as we as a collective get together once more then we shall be unbeatable. When we win lets take it as a win. The sooner we start enjoying the wins and find some happiness together the quicker and further we shall move up the league.
We are the 12th man and we are Liverpool Football Club. Lets all act like it.
Peace and love. YNWA

Why can't certain 'supporters' just lay off Andy Carroll. Its not his fault that he was sold for £35m. I see it like this..

We bought Torres for 20m...sold him for 50m = 30m PROFIT

We added another 5 and bought Carroll...so what's the issue with the price?

Carroll is NOT an out and out striker...he is more a TARGET man with strong aerial ability.

He did very well yesterday. Just a bit unlucky, not to score. Keep it up, Carroll. YNWA

The price is £35 million.

Ash

Real supporters do not care one bit about the price - you loser .

Andy Carroll is an LFC player and real LFC supporters are backing him BIG TIME .

Us LFC fans are supposed to be the best in the world! Judging by some of the posts on here that will soon slip away.

Sick of reading about people calling for Carroll to go. We were all chuffed to bits when we signed him.. why? Because we'd seen the potential he had while at Newcastle, he was to be the next England Star. We've managed to take the confidence away from him.. all he needs is a bit of luck and then he'll start scoring regularly. The same people who slagged of Lucas & Maxi... who now hero worship Lucas, and question why Maxi is not starting every game.. Carroll should receive just as much support as them while he's our number 9!

Look people.. this if Liverpool F.C.. its more than a football club, it is a family.. a culture.. a way of life.. Show some respect and back all of our players!

I wasn't chuffed when we signed carroll I knew he wasn't going to be good

Think adam deserves the support some give Carrol.He aint as bad as people say.And Hendo been poorer last two games

Its adam who is poor, not hendo. Adam was just a big fish in a small pond called blackpool. Not liverpool quality imo. Hendo atleast gives a 100% every game. Future star definitely. Btw, he did get an assist if u didnt notice.

Bit Worried how we lost our shape in midfield for a spell when coming under pressure.4 of them dropped so deep on centre halfs toes.was like a wall of eight,we invited pressure.Stevie changed that,we pushed out more.We werent as condensed(schoolboy footy style)Where you could throw a blanket over midfield.We kept our shape.If we come under a spell of pressure off Citeh like that,we cant back off or lose shape.It invites space and pressure off opposition.like to see a leader organizing that in midfield,when Stevies unavailable.Think charlie should step up,for that role

31 Dec 2011 09:35:52
Why is it that our so called supporters always find a negative to focus on !?! First it was Lucas now its Carroll ! I thought he did well lastnight and was fustrated by the lack of service...but of course when captain fantastic came on all that changed. I bet if you asked Stevie G about Carroll off the record he would say what potential this youngster has and so on. It was like he instantly wanted him to succeed by giving him the balls he needs, now with a decent run in the team he will start putting these chances away.... Carroll is not a Heskey he has much more to his game and the goals will flow... so all you doubters and haters bug off and support Man shi*y. A real 12th man would support all his team mates !!! YNWA Tobiwan

31 Dec 2011 09:30:19
Just watched a re-run of the goal Stevie scored. the build up to it was just sublime.Spearing made a superb low hard pass from the wing into a dangerous position to Henderson. Henderson controlled the ball brilliantly in a very tight situation, despite being surrounded by defenders. An ice cool pass from Henderson into Gerrard was all it needed to let Stevie do his magic.

A brilliant 'Barcelonaesque' type of goal and shows all the good things Kenny has been trying to get them to do, and this time it worked perfectly.

the football was sublime, the passion amazing but most of all it ends 2011 on a really high note and were back in the goals again. I thought Carroll had a brilliant game, causing havoc to defenders all night.

Happy new year to the Eds, or Snovem Godem as they say over here !

A bit disappointed with a few posts about charlie adam. Ok didnt have a great game last night but i thought had a good game. Set up the first goal and he is always looking to probe. And i really like his intentions. People also seem to forget he was creating a really good partnership with Lucas and he has been asked to change his game. Maybe just needs a games rest as looks a little jaded.

But i would give 8 out of 10 for first half of season and at 7 million surely bargain of the season. And the frightining thing is he is only going to get better with stevie g to learn off.

Mighty reds

Not just last night he don't have a good game last 3 match. miss penalty score won goal. lots of miss pass. he is lost a bit of touch and Hendo become very hard working in all this match.

Adam is okay. He only needs to stop trying so hard to be the "Mr. Liverpool". He is no longer at Blackpool.

BooDaBooze

He's been hopeless since Lucas got injured. This doesn't mean we should write him off, however, as some knee-jerk numptys are doing. People were saying he was signing of the season after the Chelsea game, a month later and apparently he crap. Fickle isn't the word.

The word on the street is that KK is looking to bring in another wide man and a striker....I don't think there will be a bid for Cahil as they need to strengthen in the above areas....Expect 2 signings in January

There won't be any Cahill signing, alright. He has been all but snapped up by chelsea.

His set pieces r awful at the moment,he must be doing ok in training otherwise he wouldn't be taking them,he just falls to bits on match day,it's so frustrating when we get a free kick just outside the box expecting something to happen but it never does.

Hi Eds....

I just wonder why at the end of the Sky Sports coverage last night they had a section on Eden Hazard? I know Joe Cole was in the studio, but it did seem a little weird that they started to talk about him randomly....

If we managed to get him with Joe going the other way permanently then I would be over the moon....

Any chance? What did you think about the coverage? {Ed002's Note -Hazard will not be moving to Liverpool in January.}

thought downing had his best game in a liverpool shirt tonight but theres still more to come,andy carroll was imense and really unlucky not to bang a couple in,his luck just ain't in at the moment but the that will come.bellamy as usual gave his all and was all over the park and scored 2 good goals,pity he had to go off as i thought kuyt knocked us down a gear when he came on.little spearing was a colossus in the centre,the only suprise was he didn't tackle the referee because he tackled everyone else that moved.the back 4 were solid enough again apart from that lapse for there goal,with enrique and johnson getting forward really well.adam i thought looked tired and imo could do with a couple of games rest.which leads me to stevie well where do i start,the lad is on a different planet from the rest.the difference he made when he came on was there for all to see.the transformation in oter players like henderson was amazing.he just ooze's with confidence and that confidence is contagious.it is vital we have him fit from now until the summer.so all in all lads it was a great display.i reckon if we could just pick up a quality striker i.e higuin champions league would be a shoe in.eager to hear your thoughts guys.YNWA and have a happy and prosperous 2012 all L.F.C supporters REDMICK

Good result. Some good performances. But once again Andy Carroll and Jordan Henderson are just not good enough.

I dont know what game you were watching, but I presume you didnt see the ice cool pass from Henderson for the 3rd goal, or the havoc big Andy caused in front of the goalkeeper for Bellers goal ? Why not try supporting the team, Im fed up with people saying good result ....but....but..... GET BEHIND THE TAM !!

Did you watch the game last night? Carroll menaced the defenders, he'll be key next month. Henderson? You joking? That ice cool pass which set Gerrard up for the goal in that tight situation. I think he'll be brilliant in the future.

I think tonights game showed the real reason AC has been disappointing this season an it's down to the service and style of play. At Newcastle the team was always looking to get the ball into Him early and tonight when gerrard came on that was what he did , quality early crosses which made him look a real threat.

Have to say I thought we would struggle with playing 1 up top and when we went 1 down thought unless we got Bellamy up there we were going to struggle to score but was proved wrong.

Great end to the year.

Luis Suarez
Craig Bellamy

They have been top quality signings for us so far. Hit the ground running with no fuss at all. The rest will get there they just need time. Promising if we can spot the types of players to suit us though.

A bit of positive news now.
We are joint 4th at the moment.
We have Arsenal, Chelsea & Spurs to play at Anfield.
If we can keep scoring at home now we can definitely claim 4th.
Carroll needs one to hit his ponytail & go in & they'll hopefully flow then.
If we can add a striker at least in this window of good speed & can finish i think we have as good a chance as any of 4th.
Come on Andy!
Keep trying buddy!

I'm not Carrolls biggest fan at all, however, for all of you fellow posters who are saying 'ship him out in the summer unless nets 187 goals between now and the end of the season!'. You are being ridiculous, he is clearly desperate for a goal (shouting at johnson tonight to get more crosses in), and is that not the kind of player that we want, a player who wants goals for us? Personally I feel sorry for him, he worked his socks off tonight in front of a crowd who half of them are barely supporting him, so his confidence is low forcing his first touch to be weak and luck not to be on his side in front of goal. However, I agree he has still got a long way to go, but the effort is there! Also many of you lot will have had Lucas, Crouch and our Xabi shipped off early if it was down to their first season. Just try and have a little faith, you never know, you may end up enjoying a game without having to find a scape goat.

ToonRed

Carroll working his socks off, I dont think so! More of the same ordinary performances we have come to expect. Now you expect people to believe its the crowds fault for his poor touch! He simply isnt up to Liverpool standard!

Steve

Im not a believer that he is going to be our next torres, but he is working hard. just not in the right places. his positioning is all wrong when we have the ball and he has no touch or fluency about him. but he could be a good third option. every club needs striker to compete with each other and at the moment he is the only no9 if we get de jong i will be very happy.

Steve,

I was at the game last night, and the Blackburn game, Andy Carroll is working really hard and getting in good positions. On occasion he is a little bit static, but that could well be because he doesn't believe in the crosses/passes will get to him.

With Gerrard returning we will see his worth.

My major concern with the team is confidence, Had to tell some lads behind me to shut there faces because even at 3-1 up they where screaming at our players, calling Dalglish a senile scottish c**t and being generally vile to everybody on the pitch with no regard to who was sat round them (a couple of kids, women and old folk where there last night)

Steve , did Carroll try to drown you when you were kids?
Your rambling is getting on everybody's nerves.

Just dont get Carrols good posts.Want him to be,he aint at Mo.95% of fans by me at game,say same.And before you start,everyone wants him to do well

Carroll got 30 mins of Gerrard Class and maybe should have netted one of the 3 excellant crosses that came his way, if SG continues to play AC will get his goals, so get off his back and support the lad. Another good right sided winger will have big Andy spoilt for choice. KernowRed

The game against Newcastle was a well-earned and well worked victory. But there is a need for a reality check and fans should show more patience as the 'work in progress' develops.
The new owners seem to be well considered in their approach and have created a stable base for the future. King Kenny is held in high regard throughout the footballing world and has an incredible knowledge of football and man management. Appointing Steve Clarke was a masterstroke and provides knowledge of new ideas and methods.
When Fenway came in they practically wiped out our debt saving the club. Over the years the club has been operating at a loss and even with my limited knowledge of big business I know the main reason for this is more money going out than coming in.
The commercial side of the club seems to be improving with the Standard Chartered sponsorship (from the previous regime) and the Warrior Sports Kit deal amongst others. It also seems like a lot of consideration and hard work is being done with regards to a new stadium and raising the necessary funds. Ultimately this too will increase match day income and benefit the club and team.
12 months ago we had number of players on large salaries many of whom were not up to the level of LFC. The club has moved on most of these players or are in the process of moving them on. This has comes at a cost in the short-term but should prove to be beneficial in the long-term.
As well as players leaving a number of players have arrived at a net spend of around £30 million and there is no doubt the squad is stronger and more unified than this time last year. Remember six of the team who started against Newcastle were not even at the club twelve months ago. Some players take more time to make their mark than others.
Kenny has hardly been able to call upon Gerrard, who has hardly played with Suarez. Playing with Gerrard will massively help the newer players whilst they are trying to find their feet. Players should not be barracked for not being the same class as Gerrard, they should be encouraged to try reach that level and supported accordingly. Some may never make the grade at Liverpool. This is football but whilst these players wear the red of Liverpool they deserve our support.
Our history does not entitle us to anything, we need to earn it together, have hope in our hearts and let the players know they'll never walk alone.

Crazy Horse

Well said Crazy Horse, a country mile the best post i have read on here.

I really thought after the character and class of us to show the heart,commitment and desire to beat a very good Newcastle team,that most posts would've been positive and the posters happy. I still can't believe all of the folk who do nothing but piss and moan regardless of the result. Red i only speak the truth Turk and the usual suspects are still at it. I really can't believe how contracted some of so called supporters are. I thought Adam had come into his own the last couple of month' he's getting slated again. He has run into bit of bad form but he's a quality footballer. As some smart asse post before that he ain't fit to lace Gerrard's boots are just plain stupid and very dim. Gerrard as pointed out by someone earlier that he's a once in a generation player who most players aren't fit to lace his boots. Most fan's perception of of Enrique wasn't great but look how he's turned out. Carroll gettingd blamed because off RedTurk because Gerrard passed to him,f***in ridiculous. Spearing was wrote off as not good enough and a let down by most,is now the great white hope of defensive midfieder's. I like him as a player but he was certainly considered not good enough for us. Talk about fickle,the team has played well all season bar a couple of sub par performance. Our centre half partnership is second to none in the Prem. I don't know why things like that are hardly mentioned. Top 4 is in our own hands,and i'm more then confident that a couple of additionan's in Jan and we'll be back were we belong,in the Champions League and not nearly as hamptstrung as this season with the calibre of player we can attract to have a proper crack at a league title challenge.

I thought Carroll was much better in this game and we saw how much better he played when gerrard was putting in those beautiful crosses. Anfield's singing was better and the team was playing with more flow.
Siegel was amazing, and Bellamy, and last but not least Gerrard. we really did miss a world class player like him, you felt he was miles ahead of all the rest. Very well done. A much improved Carroll.
Hibsylfc

Gerrard was putting in high quality crosses to Carroll and he continued to do his best to mess it up. When are you people gonna wake up. He was overpriced and overhyped. His touch is poor, he lacks technical ability, he fails to hold the ball up when under pressure, continues to act like a tree stump when in the box, thats when he actually makes it into the box. He fails to provide any forward pressure against defenders and he simply doesnt fit into the pass and move philoshphy of Kenny. Slate me if you will its just my opinion.

Steve

Ill slate you - you talk rubbish - Andy had a good game alone up font - much improved. You, however, Steve - should be supporting your team (although maybe youre just a bitter Newquay fan?

cozinoz

Here we go again,guy has opposing view and he should support his team.Or hes a Manc.Sickve saying it_Views make footy the game it is,respect others then

You are definately not a Liverpool fan Steve, so stop typing utter rubbish on this site and go back to your own, all your posts are negative. KernowRed.

What are you expecting? I thought he held the ball up well and did the best he could with the service! Only when Stevie came on did that change! Do you enjoy having a go at the players Steve? You dont belong in the same bracket at most Liverpool fans,because from what i can see,you dont get behind the team! All you do is bit*h!
WelshBoy Dave

Cozinoz - Its not hard to be much improved when Carroll has been nothing but mediocre. I stand by my assessment of him until he does better on a consistent basis.

Steve

Welshboy Dave - You would be correct in saying I dont belong in the same bracket as most Liverpool fans. I dont watch Liverpool games with the rose coloured glasses on that most of you seem to wear. Instead of being objective about the games and player performances, its easier for you lot to slate the person with a different opinion than the majority.

Steve

KernowRed - If you know that all my posts are negative well then maybe, just maybe, you are spending a little too much time here. I dont need to justify to you or anyone else what sort of liverpool supporter I am. FYI I have supported this club for 35 years. Im just a bit more of a realist than a lot of you people.

Steve

Good for you steve lad,aint entitled to a view by some real childish posters on here at times

hey eds,

delighted stevie G is back, although adam is doing a fine job imo. As are all the players since kk returned. the squad we have now is good enough to get us top 4, in your opinion are the players we are targeting for immediate inclusion in the squad or ones for the future? I ask because some of the big name signings being touted are ridiculous and just expect lesser known quantities from this window {Ed005's Note - We'll sign one or two for the first-team and one or two youngsters for the youth teams I reckon. Think we've already managed to sign a young player from a lower-leage team although I can't recall who.}

Jordan Ibe??!!

Or ojo? MK Dons kid

good that we are being able to out compete the other top sides for the next generation of top class English youth.. The future is bright

Southern red

Adams getting abuse he doesnt deserve,yet wheres all the support for him,that Carrol gets?

31 Dec 2011 01:56:18
Some of you posters seem to expect that the transfer fee guarantees 'immediate impact' etc .

We are talking about players in the shirt , giving their all in a good cause , under 'Kenny the Master' . This is The Kings first full season and the first full season for many of the players .

The Title run in is going to look alot better than this . With much more support the team will surprise everybody over the next few years etc .

I just can't find any reason to be negative about this LIVERPOOL team .

Not much of a mention from people for Spearing last night, so I just wanted to say I thought he had a great game. More games under his belt will definitely see his game improve further.

WalRuss

I wonder why the Newcastle player wasn't sent off for making much the same tackle on Spearing as Jay did in the Fulham game. Not that I want any players sent off but I think there is a massive inconsistancy between refferees. KernowRed

Yep! Spearo had a great game in the middle of the park last night. The reason why Kenny will not be bringing in a new DM.

BooDaBooze

I thought Spearing was lucky,he also made an identical challenge to the one at Fulham on Dembele,difference is Debemele made a meal out of it! Agree with kernow dont want to see anybody sent off but if the refs showed a bit more consistency he'd be in trouble again!

I've got to say in the main I was hugely disappointed with are signings that were bought in the summer in this game and overs as well. Downing was a awful signing. 20 million for someone coming to the end of there footballing career. In his position you need pace and he lacks that to take on the modern days full backs. He I think has been the worst of are signings. why buy him when maxi is a better player? waste of money no doubt. I am a fan of adam but he was poor today. his set pieces haven't been up to the high quality that they were for blackpool. Henderson was shocking simple as that. The lad looks so scared when playing and pulled out of many 50/50's which is always disappointing to see. unlike spearing who i thought was one of are best players if not the best. Obviously I will give credit were credits due and bellamy was an absolute steal. great bit of business from kenny. enrique fantastic are player of the season so far. Carroll well poor. I'm afraid peter crouch was a better player. He would have had a couple of goals tonight. Give morgan a chance very young but a lot more talented and someone who actually puts effort in. I always said I will give carroll to the end of the season but he needs a kick up the backside.

Danny {Ed001's Note - surely Downing's problem has been that he has beaten the full backs and then not produced a decent end product? Certainly hasn't lacked any pace at all.}

Correct me if i'm wrong ed but was ryan taylor playing LB? In the first half I thought well it seemed that downing had the beating of him i agree but that is the first time i've really seen him beat his man In a long while. yes the delivery was obviously not the best but I really question the signing of him. Don't you think like me that maxi is a better player than him? and downing was the man that was mean't to supply carroll. I have to say gerrard is the only one in are team who consistently deliver top balls in. fantastic player if we can keep him fit.

Danny {Ed001's Note - Santon came on at half time for Ryan Taylor because he got such a roasting. No I don't think Maxi is better, they are totally different players, impossible to compare the two. Maxi can't play every game anyway, his body isn't able to cope, like Bellamy, who was immense.}

I would like to see Downing get to the By line and produce, rather cut inside. i know its part of the modern game to play a winger on the opposing wing of which ever foot he favours. So they cut in and cross/ shoot towards the keeper. This does'nt help Andy either, i like a winger to either go for the by line or create a bit of space and put the ball in that bit of no mans land between the 6 yard box and pen spot. All the best.

KNEE JERK

He won so many freekicks. he sometimes go with his right foot too much. but that was a good game for him,
and im not gona say unlucky andy because gerrard have him it on a platter with extra on the side.

Contrary to knee jerk, i would love Downing to make early crosses rather than having to get to the byline first before putting them in.
Downing's crosses always get blocked at the byline due to very tight space available. Downing needs to cross the ball whenever he has more space in front of him.

is it just me or has carra been phased out quite easily and without any media fuss or backlash im very surprised... although i am very impressed in agger an skrtel forming a very nice partnership :)

Very short memories!
Remember Crouch?
How many games did it take him to score & go on a run?
Didn't he end up being a success until Rafa decided to bench him more often than not as he & Torres didn't play together as well as Gerrard & Torres?
Beardsley was awful when he first came too & look how that turned out!
Very short memories indeed.
The only way for Carroll to succeed is for the fans to stay behind him.
Yes his first touch is terrible at the moment but his confidence is clearly shot.
He can be a fantastic player for us if & when he finds form again - just give him some support & we'll see.....hopefully.

But crouch works hard carroll doesn't.

Danny

He (Carroll) has worked harder in the last 2 games so maybe the penny has finally dropped & now he just needs 2 or 3 goals in the next 2 or 3 games.
If he repeats what he did vs City in the next game then he might well hit a roll.
If we don't support him, he'll never do it!
Do you see what you should do?

He has to provide us with the performances first for people to get behind him im afraid!

Steve

I would prefer Kuyt. Good first touch, smart move & pass, better finishing.

No just you Steve - the rest of us here are SUPPORTERS

cozinoz

Do you go to games Cozinoz?

31 Dec 2011 01:11:03
So if Stevies out,no one can provide crosses of quality Carrol likes?Would like a striker who can help make things happen himself aswell.

You mean like Suarez?

SB9

Personally I think suarez is better in the air than carroll. suarez can peel off his man and get a free header, while carroll competes and never scores from them. He hit the bar but it should have been a goal.

Danny

I think Carrol gets man marked by the best CB luis doesnt get man marked in the box for corners an free kicks as much so its easier for him to get a 'free header'

But i do remember Suarez missing atleast a couple of easy headers this season already, whereas carrol has had to compete for every header an was really unlucky today.

SB9

That wasnt unlucky that was miss, if you say that was unlucky then same could be said about suarez, but when did suarez miss a header chance like the two carroll hit against the cross bar? there was one that was far out against qpr but thats nowhere near as close. and he scored two from headers already.

Do You really think Suarez is an accurate crosser of the ball

Funny every time I watch him he squanders 10 + chances while in front of goal

Must be a different suarez?

Suarez has a box of tricks and that's all, good on the eye to watch but can't find the net, maybe he needs NET-NAV

Suarez missed a very easy o unmarked back post header against Blackburn.

hi eds and fellow pool supporters.
first time post but i think king kenny is doing a great job.
In my opinion he has not improved the starting 11 but has improved the squad and all he has to do now is add a couple of class players and we will be title contenders.

Skrtel excellent at Mo,as is Agger.Sorry Hendersen looked lost again!

Apart from the assist for gerrards goal? simple pass maybe but he was there to make it, i believe the boy is an will be a very good signing.

SB9

Yea aint lost faith with lad but been lost of late,talking about overall game last night

31 Dec 2011 00:48:33
I've just finished watching the game for the second time and reading the posts I am absolutely staggered by the amount of people who thought Carroll played well.
I have layer off the bloke for ages because I was told he should be given time but I'm sorry that was one of the worst displays of forward play I think I have ever seen.
Dirk Kuyt (who has had an up and down season) showed more desire, composure, ability and skill in the first 2 minutes that he was on than Carroll did in 90.
Apart from the total lack of ability from Carroll I also saw a few very unpleasant reactions to his teammates and I would like to bet that he's a bad apple. Anyone who thinks he played well knows absolutely nowt!

Chris in Tamworth

-------------------------------------------------

Chris, im not Carrolls biggest fan and whilst I was again unimpressed this evening, there were signs of improvement. He did look a threat and more comfortable with Gerrards deliveries.

Similarily to you, I believe Carroll does not possess any ability, certainly not with the ball at his feet, although I am hoping a run in the team and more game time will prove to the contray.

Ozone

Not good enough ,never will be,we need players who make an immediate impact, not players that we hope will come good,we should sell him in the summer unless between now and then he miracuously transforms himself into a striker, on a positive note stevie g was excellent

I Gerrard plays, he'll come good!

dmedly

Couldn't agree more with you chris! I'm fed up of carroll's laziness. Henderson played poor as well but he works very hard on the pitch and in training. he will be a good player in time carroll will not. simples!

Danny

If gerrard play he'll come good?
so that might aswel be ngoo playing and starting and saying dw ig gerrard plays he'll come good. ngoo btw has more strength and ball control. lfc reserve player if you dont know

Spot on Chris most accurate post match comment so far.

Derek

Surely its time to move on now Chris? We know you talk sense with your posts and we know you dislike Carroll,but lets just try getting behind the team? Maybe shout about them,sing about them? Hell,maybe one day,SUPPORT the team? With you people breathing down his neck,no wonder his confidence is low! Some of you are worse than the media!
Maybe im being niave,maybe in modern day football you dont get time,(sighs)! Sorry guys,rant over!

31 Dec 2011 00:48:01
Ed what do you think about adam's set pieces I think he's only had 1 or 2 good ones all season...every time he's over a free kick or corner I'm expecting something good but they've been really poor.still like the player though. {Ed001's Note - he has disappointed with his set pieces, he spent most of the season deferring to others, I just think it is confidence. It is like he is still looking round wondering if it is really true and not stepping up and taking over like he did at Blackpool. Hopefully it will come in time, it needs to because it is a huge part of his game.}

Its almost the only part of his game and gerrard is reaching fitness with each game he needs to step up big time.

31 Dec 2011 00:47:46
How many pro Carrol posters go to the game?The lads awful,lays off ball and stands still.Doesnt make far post runs.Played ball out wide,and shouldve burst gut to get in middle for return.Just trotted casually forward.His touch threw on goal was embarrassing,struggeling as he is.He aint good enough!Everybody was willing him to do well by me,and we all came away shaking our heads again.A neutral sat nearby,seemingly syaying with family said-hes carp-cant believe LFC signed him.Harsh,but mainly fair.Granted Stevie only one to whip a ball infrontve lad with pace,and he nearly scored.But stevie had to b k lad to move,and get in there.Not LFC standard although still hope proved wrong,seriously doubt will be.Do we want him idoling around area just waiting for a ball he likes?No real benefit otherwise

31 Dec 2011 00:46:28
after seeing some of the passes stevie was putting into carrol i think he will be the man to kick andy on this season his delivery's are amazing pace and curve on them and perfect hight not long looping balls just thrown into the box.
JJ blackpool (buzzing)

Wasnt that guy suppose to be henderson? "he had the most crosses last season" was everyone saying, as with downing and adam and enrique. everyone was bought to accommodate carroll yet they dont do what they did at their ex clubs bar enrique.

31 Dec 2011 00:44:34
I am very happy with the result but extremely upset yet again with the ref. Newcastle should have had two straight reds and they got away with none. We have had the same treatment since Sunderland at the start of the season and it is getting beyond a joke. I know we won and I am made up about that, but this red needs to be suspended on that performance, utterly shocking.

31 Dec 2011 00:41:32
I dont mind being shot down coz its a game of opinions so here goes...
Does any1 else think we'd b much more affective without suarez? We lookd more like a team tonight and not like a one man show which i'm getting sick of.
I think hes so overrated personally. Some of his decision making on the ball is awful and he cant finish a packet of quavers. Plus hes trouble etc

31 Dec 2011 00:35:10
hi eds.. just a question for u. all this talk of de jong going on here.never seen the guy play.whats your opinion of him? {Ed001's Note - he looks very suited to the English league, he is big and strong. He is not lightning, but he is quick, good in the air, versatile and has good technique. The worry is if he will be able to step up to the higher level, it is difficult to say for sure, but he does have good enough technique to do so.}

Thanks for the reply ed. will it not be a gamble bringing in a player(if he comes) who is unproven at the highest level? will it not be better to try and bring a proven goal scorer? would we have the funds and willingness to for such a player? {Ed001's Note - all signings are a gamble, Morientes was proven at the highest level and was awful for us. De Jong looks well suited to a pass and move style of play, he also looks capable of coping easily with the physical style of the English league. The option is to go out and spend huge sums trying to get a player who wants Champions League football, the only way to tempt them is with huge wages. Then you have everyone else wanting pay rises for parity and it becomes a huge financial burden on the club, at a time when we have to be looking to invest in a stadium.}

Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Robin Van Persie, Denis Bergkamp (via Inter Milan), all made the grade in the Premiership from the Dutch League. (Marco Van Basten - albeit AC Milan). All class forwards educated the Dutch way, can't see any reason why De Jong won't follow suit.

MidlandRed

Thanks for your input ed. i agree with you to some extent, but im hoping the players that are bought adjust, perform reasonably quickly because some of the other teams are performing rather well and we dont want to be too far behind which also leads to good players wanting to leave the club looking for trophies..

31 Dec 2011 00:35:02

31 Dec 2011 00:31:15
just got back from the game and read a few posts and think people bein a bit harsh on a c thought he had a decent game held the ball up well worked hard poor lad just needs a goal to boost his confidence . Showed desire and all those knockin him for havin a go at team mates should watch wot was happenin . Carroll was makin great runs and losing his markers yet time and time again johnson and downin were gettin in good positions but taking to long to get the ball in the box it was frustratin to watch no wonder he was gettin annoyed . He will get his goals now gerrard is back he is different class best player on pitch by a mile true red

He was making some good runs agree and the balls should come in quicker but he needs to score when through or at least force a good save i was there tonight he made some great runs but i'm happy 3 points in the bag we just need to make sure we are better than arsenal or chealsea that is who we going to be battling for fourth place with.

31 Dec 2011 00:29:32
A few people have said tonight that kuyt did ok when he came on I don't know about anyone else but I think we should let him go now he's not going to get in the team every week like he used to and I would hate to see him just sat on the bench for the rest of his time here because he has been great for us over the years and if all he's going to get is 10 mins here and there I would rather see one of the young kids get that 10 mins or so. Dirk has been fantastic for us but I think its now time to thank him and let him go.

Mat lfc

He did good, he should play in cm he played their for holland in either a qualifying game or in the world cup one match.

31 Dec 2011 00:27:15
Quite surprised to see Kuyt and Maxi on the bench i mean, they are both 10 goal midfielders and help with assists. We play hendo and downing who neither score or get as many assists out lineup should be

kuyt gerrard spearo maxi
Carroll Bellamy

Kuyt and Maxi are yesterday's men. Henderson and Downing are the future. They need the game time so that they wil improve. Kuyt and Maxi can never improve and have passed their best. RED LENIN

Henderson has scored more league goals than kuyt who by the way is a great servant for our club, but he is also the future of lfc did you notice the difference in his all round attacking attitude once Stevie came on the pitch. This is our future and Kenny knows it will take years for us to challenge for the premiership due to our finnancial position against Citys etc therefore it being cruical we build now for the future and hopefuly bring class players through from the accedemy alongside these young players to enable us to make a reaistic challenege for premiership in future years.

31 Dec 2011 00:25:01
Let me start by saying how great it was to get 3 points at Anfield tonight, and particularly the return of our captain Stevie. There were a number of things to take from the game and the return, goal and ability to play the right balls into Carroll, clearly show the value of having Gerrard back. Let's hope he can stay fit and provide Andy with the right service, and if he maintains the level of commitment shown tonight then the goals will surely flow.

I was also really pleased with the performance of Craig Bellamy showing tremendous movement, energy and his overall effort for the cause. He must play more often in 2012, than he has done up until now.

For my next point whilst congratulating Henderson for his assist in Gerrard's goal, I was really disappointed with his all round performance once again. I can't remember one tackle or one occasion when he closed one of the opposition player's down forcing a misplaced pass. His performances to date give nothing for Liverpool Football Club with a lack of passion and drive. He needs to look at Gerrard to see how it's done and for that matter Jay Spearing who had a solid game tonight. I really can't understand why we spent £16m on him. Maybe a year or two in the fringes and he may deliver something, but right now it's like playing with 10 men with him.

Let's hope a couple of new signings in January (Striker and creative midfielder) will push us into the top four by the end of the season.

Vic

I will admit that I think Hendo was quiet tonight, but we won, and as its a team effort I'll give him some credit.
Just wondering what Ed001 thought of his game as I'm not the best at seeing how the game is read.

dmedly {Ed001's Note - he disappointed me, he just seemed a bit lost, lots of running around but no real idea of what he was doing. I think he has ability, but the tactical side to his game is in desperate need of work. He needs to be put in a position and be played there to learn it properly I think.}

Don't know what gane you were watching mate. Henderson wasn't as good as he has been, but he still put in a good shift.

When we first bought him you thought he would play on the right, which he has, and be played similar to Houghton. From what I've seen he seems far better in the centre going forward.
He's young and can learn, but I'm concerned that maybe were doing a "Rafa" and trying to change him to suit our needs?

dmedly {Ed001's Note - he does seem to be suffering, confidence wise at least. He still shows good technique, so he has the makings of a player, he just needs coaching now to get the best from him. Maybe moving Downing to the left, so he can hit the byline and cross, Henderson and Stevie interchanging on the centre and right, could be the answer? I think Stevie's crossing is too good to not have him on the right as much as possible, but we clearly need him in the centre as well!}

At the mo... Id be quite happy with downing LW, Lucas DM & Gerrard/Hendo CM/RW as you say interchanging. Even though Downing seems to play better on the right?
Hopefully playing with Gerrard may give him Hendo some confidence.
But yet again it does look like we're waiting on another season to see the potential of our current squad, just worried we're starting to get left behind, 4th place is looking like a tough nut to crack this season!

dmedly {Ed001's Note - Downing doesn't provide good enough quality crosses on the right, I would prefer him on the left if Carroll plays.}

Good evening all,

A good result, but a so-so performance. We've played better and drawn, but 3 points is the most important thing. Again thought we were quite careless with the ball when it really mattered, but had the feeling we were never gonna lose.
I Thought Carroll worked hard and wished for the world that the ball would go in for him, but that lack of confidence showed when clean through on goal. But if the last 30mins is anything to go by SG will get him banging them in sooner rather than later. Maybe Henderson and Adam are hitting a little rough patch of their own but as long as they keep working and plugging away I think we can forgive them. Now for the star of the show Mr Gerrard, £100M spent and it still all boils to Stevie. If he last the rest of the season we'll finish in the CL places.
Also, Skrtel is getting better and better. Now he seems to have cut out the silly freekicks, he looks a world class defender.

Tomy Walsh

This win will do wonders for the confidence of the team.I will take a few more so-so games if we get 3 points.

Try listening to the Staff and the Players , verbage et al :

we are a work in progress ... we are all in it together ... we will keep doing what we know how ... etc etc etc .

There is so much football to be played yet and our team is only going to get better for the long term .

I have to say I am really enjoying supporting the team and all of our new signings , they can have all the time they need as far as I'm concerned .

Love it ! They are a hoot to be fair , regardless of what other teams are doing .

Eds, regular posters,

Do you remember some time back when we had a run of FORM a few posts were put up here questioning whether or not Stevie G would even get back in the side. Watching him play this evening I thought of those posters and the quote ' FORM is temporary, CLASS is permanent' sprang to mind.

Watched the post-match interview and liked the way Stevie G said that Andy needs service, I think the quality that Stevie provides caught Andy by surprise with the first chance and although he hit the bar I think there were encouraging signs, Frustrated a bit with the lack of quality crosses into him until the master came on. Adam get use to that bench!!!!!

If we had downing on left and gerrard on right supplying crosses for Andy C the sky is the limit as to how many goals and assists he would supply for us.
