31 Jan 2013 22:54:43
Were we ever in for Butland at any point today? 3.5 million seems like a bargain!

Given that he rejected chelsea and man city, i even if we did go for him, I doubt he would have signed for us. {Ed002's Note - The critical point for the player would be wanting to have first team football.}

Bargain. I assume you didn't watch him this season

31 Jan 2013 22:54:10
We've just signed Benzema and Ozil you guys. £49mil did it for the pair but we've off loaded Shelvey and Borini to help fund it. Ill just 'save it' now and that'll put us in good shape for City away. I'd play on but my control pad needs charging, good night.

Nice to see suarez speak out for himself and show his love and loyalty to our club, hopefully it will shut these people that think its alllllll for the money up!

How long can you keep him without champions ieague football?

Dont think from today's show of loyalty from saurez means he be there next season with us, if the likes of Barcelona, Madrid, are bayern for that case comes in with the right offer luis will go, we won't be playing chps lge next season and I don't know what the year will bring after that, but saurez is going to want it if we can't give it, the lad will go, he deserves to be playing in it, I pray I am wrong. rd

I would suspect you are in fact correct. If any of the 3 you mention come in for him in a big way (40M-50M or thereabouts) I believe he will be off.

In the meantime, he's still here do let's just support him and the team and let the chips fall where they may.

I hope Luis is sincere. I recall El Nino saying the same thing in december, then requesting transfer in january.

West ham co Chairman David Sullivan has confirmed that NO BID has been made for Diame, despite very strong rumours to the contrary, plus John Pearce Liverpool Echo confirms no mid from LFC

31 Jan 2013 23:27:03
Missed a trick here, really do think he could have made a big impact in our midfield and don't think he would have cost that much in wages, if he produces what we have seen in the first part of the season would have been a steal at 3.5 million. Jir63

He would have been a bigger steal last May on a free when Kenny wanted to sign him and a lot on here were saying that that proved Kenny had lost his marbles but there you go.

Mantis.

31 Jan 2013 22:40:57
This has been such an uneventful ending to a transfer window! SO booooring.

I wasn't expecting us to sign anyone else and I'm happy with our singings but I was hoping for some drama with regards arsenal, city, utd, chelsea etc but absolutely nothing zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Do you remember five moths ago when we were all hoping that we'd sign Michael Owen because we had no strikers?! How nice it is to get players in early :)
Think Sturridge and Coutinho could both be really good buys. Do wish we'd signed a bit more cover at left-back to be honest. Apart from that, I'm happy with this squad until the summer.

31 Jan 2013 23:23:03
what are you on about all wishing 5months ago that we sign owen is this joke your avin a laugh lad at no point have the real fans ever wanted that judas dwarf back

Django

I'm with you Django but unfortunately the topic was brought up more than once on here.

31 Jan 2013 22:32:55
That's that till summer, 2 good signings for us fingers crossed they do well, can't see peps heading out to arsenal, if he goes it will be to barca in the summer.
Ince will probably join in summer, I'd like
To see a face at the club someone with experience like carra and Gerard to help the young lads along

31 Jan 2013 22:32:03
Is Ince available in the summer for free? Cause if so Blackpool are throwing away 6 million! {Ed002's Note - No, there is a optional year.}

And if ince refuses to sign a years extension would he then be avalable ona free?

tom1975 {Ed002's Note - I really don't know the terms of teh agreement.}

31 Jan 2013 22:27:55
Very good window for me. We have a striker that now takes a bit of focus from and creates more space for Suarez, and they also look to be starting a nice partnership. We also have a very exciting young talent in Coutinho. Perhaps another defender would have been nice, however its not the biggest disaster in the world. Before people start slating FSG, they have spent over £20m this window, and the club have also focused their resources on the right players, rather than the quantity of players. Anyone expecting some superstar this window were always going to be left disappointed. I think the squad now looks much healthier now than it did a month ago, and all we can do now is get behind the team to do everything we can to get that 4th spot. With only 14 games left it will be challenging to say the least, however its not impossible.

El Pi**edolero

31 Jan 2013 22:23:00
Steklenberg coming to LFC? Doubtful to say the least, He's made more clangers than Reina and isn't nearly as good at distribution. Reina still has a lot to offer but if he wants out to Barca, I think Leno, Ter Stegen would be a good replacement.
All speculation on my part, you won't here no "inside knowledge" red herrings on my part.

mozzilfc

I think reina is a non seller because whom ever youd bring in wouldn't lace his boots

livlim

I can't see Barca being overly interested in Reina- makes little sense. Courtois to Barca, Reina to AM? Now that's a possibility.

Ever since one of the Eds mentioned Trapp (not necessarily interested but pointing out talented young Germans other than Ter Stegen) I've been keeping an eye on him and looks like he could develop into a top keeper.

31 Jan 2013 22:22:06
Have it on good authority, well, a guy I know whos brother cleans windows for a friend of Steven Gerrard.
Anyway, he says, that the transfer window closes in about 30 minutes, and once the window closes we won't be signing anyone else until the summer.

I believe this.

George Formby

I'm not sure I do.

31 Jan 2013 22:20:35
ince would have been nice if he had been spelled differently

I enjoyed that a little bit too much.

Any chance of a straight answer, do you think there will be a player signing for us in the next hour?
Then I can go to bed. {Ed002's Note - You can go to bed. Even if "he" does arrive, I am sure he will still be around in the morning.}

This is getting a bit stupid now. We don't need to rush a signing through. I'd be quite happy To wait till the summer transfer window finished. Couple of signings in jan. I think the pressure some Lfc fans are putting on getting people in is crazy. Like kids in a sweet shop. Most are mentioning names like Cuenca. Honestly has anyone ever heard of him before? Not me. Didn't see many posts today asking for BR's head after last nights encouraging performance. Fickle and football fans goes together like a fat old pro and Wayne Rooney.

31 Jan 2013 22:11:08
Brendan Rodgers said probably no more business, but then we find out that we have had a loan bid rejected for Cuenca. Just shows how little information we are given and how anything can happen in this last hour.

NoNameYet {Ed002's Note - THis loan bid will not have bneen rejected in the last hour.}

31 Jan 2013 21:49:32
Not Liverpool related. And i'm not the biggest fan of david beckham but his decisiom to play and go to work for nothing fir 5 months of his life just to help a charity is a great touch w few players should learn from him.

Sterling has been funding schools in Jamaican for disadvantaged kids. He's got much less money than Becks and doesn't get anything like the publicity. Not taking anything away from Beckham but our young lad has proved not all footballers are mindless persons!

And don't forget our very own Carra, Gerard, Dirk Kuyt and Bellamy foundations that do huge amounts for kids in need. Good lad Becks but you just got more publicity, that's all

Bellamy runs school in Africa. Essien paid 80% of his salary to football schools in Ghana. Can you beat that?

I don't think he needs more publicity do you? If he goes to PSG then it's 'just for the money' but by giving his wages to charity he's 'doing it for the publicity'? Just accept the guy is doing a good thing because he doesn't need the money and there is unfortunate children who do. Good on you Beckham

Beckham is so wealthy I hear he actually owns the moon. not just the dark side either. all of it!

We need to strengthen in the middle to help Lucus as a defensive midfielder - Diame at West Ham - £3.5m release clause would be perfect.

31 Jan 2013 22:16:18
I bet the top four would be she*ping themselves if we got him. Set your standards a bit higher lad. 3.5m shouldn't he be signing for stoke or Wigan?

31 Jan 2013 21:26:22
Sky just reported we missed out on a loan deal for a barca winger

Apparently it was a barca whinger to go with all the rest of you moaners

AJH

Yeah, barca were willing to let him join LFC on loan but the player (cuenca) had chosen to go to Ajax. {Ed002's Note - After Valencia said they could not afford Cuenca's wages, someone did mention that Liverpool had made an approach to Barcelona after Liverpool had been turned down by Sporting over a loan for Jeffren. I knew nothing of the approach.}

I did think the jeffren loan would go through

livlim

31 Jan 2013 21:25:32
apparently we bid for cuenca but he went to ajax, does this mean that BR still wants another addition maybe?

31 Jan 2013 21:23:39
I perfectly understand that fans are still clamouring for more signings this window despite that we have spent a little over 20m - more than any other club in the top 10 - and we have nearly every position covered.

Now, would it be right to say our two recent signings - Allen and Borini were made simply because the manager knew them and had worked with them, and not necessarily because they were what LFC needed as a football club? I say this because, if they had been what we needed, I fail to understand why they were not considered good enough to play against Arsenal, who featured all of their 3 recent signings in Carzola, Giroud and Podolski?

Amazingly, Rodgers has once again gone after Coutinho, a player he claims to have known since the lad was 15, and not necessarily because he can cope in the EPL, considering his injury records.

Now, Inter on the other hand have smartly used the money we gave them for this kid with the proverbial potential to sign two top class players in Mateo Kovacic and Zdravko Kuzmanovic.

In this result based business, a manager is judged by his signings and league position and I hope Rodgers can get this group to perform and restore our lost glory.

If he fails to do so by the end of this season, then we must be brutally honest and tell him why it has not worked for him and the need for him to have a rethink on his approach.

But if he remains obstinate and continues to push LFC unto the fast lane with more average signings, then we should all get behind him and push him out of the club before he completes his mission of saddling our squad with familiar but ineffective faces.

Top 4 is what we need and anything below that cannot be deemed as success, considering the amount we spend on transfers and the wages we pay. Again, it is the only way we can maintain our global patronage and sponsorships, reason being that Adidas cited our poor performances on the pitch as their main consideration in parting company with us.

Unfortunately, I have heard that Warrior Sports is the top loser among other shirt sponsorship dealers and this may not be unconnected to the fact that they are new in football and do not have many partners as other sponsor. But I bet you that they would also be compiling their reason for not doing well by now.

There is no doubting the fact that the job of managing a big club like LFC is one that carries with it an enourmous responsibility and whoever that cannot satisfy these responsibilities is not worthy to manage it in my humble view.

Abroad Red.

Brendan Rodgers was not brought in to deliver success overnight, he was brought in as part of a project to get us back to the top. We need to give Rodgers time and belief that we can push on as a club and return to past glories. Have you not watched the Ed's video 'in Brendan We Trust 3'?! That will tell you all you need to know buddy. Rome wasn't built in a day.
Cheers,
LS7.

I understand and share your opinions on borini and allen weren't impressed with the sigings from the start but coutinho is class and instead of sitting behind a computer whinging about these things why not just get behind the team and support the team and manager regardless of who they are

31 Jan 2013 22:22:54
I was going to read the post but after the first paragraph of you being negative and waffling on I decided to skip it. Mate get behind the manager and the players. Your supposed to be a supporter not a critic. Plus what makes you so educated in football? If you or any other Lfc fans think you know better than BR then why didn't you apply for the managers job when it was available? Because you know nothing so keep it down.
Albert

Wasn't it that Warrior offered a much higher fee than Adidas to sponsor our shirts. ? Adidas were offered the chance to match but turned it down in favour of other types of sponsorship within the club.

Borini is just back from a broken foot. Allen is off form and Henderson is hot on form was picked ahead of him. I would also say that Henderson is hot and in form is due to the current manager and both the backing and coaching he has given Henderson. As Hendo himself has said. Sterling is also a first team player because of the current manager and his coaching. Sturridge was a good purchase, I believe Scousinho will be too. Allen was a class act at olympics and at the start of the season, his form has dipped. He is only 22.

The fact that these 2 players (Borini and Allen) did not start against Arsenal is no reflection on either their status as LFC players or the manager. In the future, even if the pair of them are worldies but off form, I expect them to get dropped for someone else in the squad if needed.

So, get a grip and have a word with yourself.

SpudRed

1 thing you forgot to mention in your negative post about our manager was the golden rule. that which most Liverpool fans adorn easily, which is if all trust you have lost in yourself becomes too unbearable to conceive the fact you no longer are of the cloth that is LFC take a hike.
top 4 is what we strive for previous admins saw to that.
amazingly rodgers buys a player with real potential again and he may go on to be player of europe and who knows the world. but along with sturridge and borini will you be saying you gave them a chance.
regarding inter milan I will say could it be plainly this without the understanding of milk you will never make good cheese.
NOW coming to the only point I agree with our management carries great weight on their shoulders but I supportet LFC for over 30 yrs and I say a great man will carry that burden and you got to give him a chance to do so, if he fails you can criticise. but don't fail a person before he has tried.

im going to use this opportunity to call all Liverpool fans to highlight there experiences following Liverpool and let some of these so called fans see what this club is about. it is not essentially about winning it is about being the best you can and if you are the best you can and you are Liverpool you are 90% ther.
So to all true Liverpool fans get behind the team they are not 9 million miles away and we know it but maybe we got to educate the schoolboys.

Petermolly

To be honest I think Rodgers said we were too lightweight before he got to know the younger players, I think he has more faith in the younger players now than he did at the start of the season, hence the reason why he doesn't see it as a big problem. May not be the case just an idea.

Eddoo2 I think it was you mate when asked about damiao the Brazilian stiker that he was worth a lot of money according to his club, maybe 60million his club wanted? Do you think spurs will sign him as I thought he would be a tatget in the summer? {Ed002's Note - His club values him at a very unrealistic 60M euros and he has complex ownership issues so it will not be an easy ride for any potential buyer that wants to negotiate a low fee. The player says wants to move to Chelsea but their interest would only be there if other targets were not achievable, but they have taken a look at him. }
Thanks. edd. for the reply, thought I might have been well off with the 60m figure. Eddoo2 can I ask who your favourite player anywhere or who admire?

{Ed002's Note - I don't really have a fovourite but there are plenty to admire out there over the years.}

Dirks Engine Room

Ahoy Chris in Tamworth,

The repellentness of the Redknapp clan continues to astound me, from JR Superstars role at the heart of our wilderness years, to his mincing along the beach with his shirt off taking Thomas Cook to the brink of bankruptcy.

Arry's continued destruction of football clubs and lining of his bank accounts is a joke, and he will bankrupt QPR just as he did, Portsmouth, and almost West Ham and also Spurs.

Also Mr D Beckham would be taxed upto 97% as a top bracket earner in France, as he has confirmed he is based in London charitable donations can be offset against his UK Tax Liability. I think he may have met Jimmy Carr's accountant recently

We will not pay stupid greedy agents a percentage - it's the agents and the hangers on causing so many legal and contractual problems.

We have tried to sign certain players, but the owners won't be drawn into certain contractual clauses which will put us into difficulties.

Sometimes the players need to show some courage and not listen to the nonesense demanded by their 'representatives'
. . theses people are leeches, trying to get the possible deals for themselves and not the players they purport to represent.

FSG are absolutely right in their stance. . we won't sign mercenary players, who will bleed the club dry.

Very true. Such as the last day of the transfer window, it's a agents paradise.

Wigan wants suso on loan and suso needs game time to continue his development, and with game time looking increasingly unlikely for him at Liverpool this season, a loan to wigan to work with manager roberto martinez for the next few months would seem especially beneficial to both parties.

"I'm making it clear that I'm not going on loan to Wigan, " said Suso, taking to Twitter less than an hour after the rumours broke to put an end to them. "I'm really happy at Liverpool and will try my best to play here every game. "

Monreal, 26yr international attacking left back is exactly what is needed. Going to Arsenal for £8mil

Another good player missed in this window

Rolando a top centre back? Go away

Not that I would want him back mind, but the stories during that window were great fun.

Evening all,

Drove past Melwood this evening. . All very quiet. . Quite a few young uns hoping to get on tv but ended up providing good trade for the Century Chippy. .

A good transfer window in my opinion (for what that is worth)

Eds, genuine stuff here - I believe that we have missed out on 346 possible transfers that we didn't go for during this window.
What on earth are FSG up to, no money me thinks. . .
Ultra red

Absolutely correct Ultra Red. That 20 plus million this window is still from the Torres deal!!

Every player we bought was from the Torres money. When will FSG put in some of their own money.

And to be clear, becuase most of the FSG moaners are clueless,

THAT WAS SARCASM.

PS> Best to mention that in your post Ultra. Just in case. You may think its obvious but its laughable some people on here.

Is it just me that thinks we should of got more steel in the team i. e didi or masch, players of this ilk. . we have soft center when we get attacked but we continue to try or do sign fancy dan footballers, this is not the spanish league brendan, I support brendan by the way !

Lucas when he gets back to his best is a beast. It takes a while to get back after injury but he will. Give him time.

Perhaps the manager feels a better deal for such a player can be made in the summer.

Its important to remember BR can't improve every area of squad in the January Transfer market where prices are hiked and perhaps the players he wants don't want to move mid season.

Davey Sulls

I appreciate how good lucas was pre injury but lets be honest and not kid our selves, great lfc midfielders who sweat blood for the cause case, souness, hamann, mc mahon, whelan, and dare I say it mascherano all players who don't leave the good passing teams of yester year leaving the defence like sittin ducks ! lucas not there yet my lfc friend !

I told you it was all talk about nothing happening at LFC Reina is now going to arsenal for 20 million and we have got skeletenberg on loan and bought ince & mirin with the money!

Cheers PDLFC

'Skeletenberg!' As long as they make no bones about it.

31 Jan 2013 19:22:00
interesting, Eds:

Danny Wilson, no. 22 - 'on loan' stamp next to his aquad number - still listed as 22. on LFC website

Andy Carroll - no. 9, Dani Pacheco - no. 12, Jay Spearing - also on loan. . but no squad no. listed on website

after to more senior players, perhaps?

in other news, I rarely post any actual rumours, but Fulham are trying to take someone on loan - probably Suso, but something tells me they may be after Shelvey.

Hi Eds. I know it's deadline day and I should be talking about seeing Susaeta as I went through Crocky on the bus, however, i'm after some info re: Flanno. Is he injured or has he just fallen off the radar with BR? Seems he is just 4th choice RB behind Johnson, Kelly and Wisdom and it's just a matter of time until he's offloaded. Shame as I thought he was progressing pretty quickly. Any clues would be great!

Flanno was just back from an injury and then picked up another on Jan 14 playing in the U21 1-0 win against Southampton. Brad Smith got injured in the same game.

Arsenal set to sign left back Monreal from Malaga for only 10m Euro's. A real good piece of business in my eyes, someone we should have looked at.

31 Jan 2013 19:38:09
yeh only thay we don't need a left back. Do we just buy people if we don't need them now?

Albert

So who do you propose is better than Monreal in our side ? Downing ?You obviously haven't seen him play. Our full backs are exposed to pace, evident against Arsenal, United and Everton. We had to revert to 3 at the back to contain Mirrallas.

Enrique is far better when pushed further forward, therefore a quality left back at £8.5m would have been a real coupe.

31 Jan 2013 22:36:29
Never heard of or seen Monreal play. Didn't even know he existed before tonight. Why don't you manage the team lad it seems you've got it all worked out. Do you sit at home working out tactics on your clip board or do what I do and let BR sort it out because wait a minute oh yeh that's his job. You know nothing about tactics you certainly don't know what goes on in training at Lfc so keep quiet and let BR do it he's the professional not you.

Albert

Have you ever seen him play? I know 2 arsenal fans that aren't even excited by signing him so why should you be bothered that Liverpool weren't interested?!

Exactly, you've not seen him play, probably like a lot of other people on this site.

I watch the Spanish league and he's good.

And no, I don't have it all worked out and your comment about the clip board shows what an person you are.

Talking of tactics, did you watch the away game against United, in particular the first half?Where you there - probably not. Did you watch the second half against Arsenal when we retreated deeper and deeper? Where you there? Probably not.

Please don't go on about armchairs Lad, as I'm there home and away for most games

To the second poster. I watch the Spanish league and I think he is a good player - That's why I am bothered that we weren't interested in him.

I can not under stand BR and FENWAY because we are told the sqaud is thin and yet we allow 3 or 4 players to go on loan and bring in 2 player.

I agree mate. It's actually just confirmation that we have not rich enough owners I'm afraid.

Herbert Von stoppenbach

Yes, but those players who left were never going to play so were wasting space

It is (was) thin in terms of quality, not quantity. I really don't know why this is so hard to understand?

Your thesis is dumb. you don't count up the absolute number of players you have and call it deep or thin. You loan Pacheco, get rid of Joe Cole and Doni. You add Sturridge and Coutinho. Yes it is a net loss, but are you deeper? Of course you are! You now have two potential legitimate starters for your lineup every week. The other three were playing no role at all in the first team.

I for one love the fact that they stuck to their guns on price and got two solid young players. Will they be great, I have no idea, but do they have the potential, emphasize potential, to be front-line players for a BPL contender, my answer is yes.

Now your answer might be I don't want potential I want legitimate stars now. We all do, but if you go down that road you'll be bankrupt in 5 years.

Seriously? No, Really?

Sold: Cole
Released: Sahin, Doni
Loaned: Pacheco, Morgan, Ngoo, Wilson

Loaned some kids that weren't ready, released 2 guys that weren't getting a game, and sold one total and complete flop that was costing us 90k a week.

Bought a starting striker and a rated talent to replace them.

Our midfield is not thin, other than missing some muscle in there. (which a fully match sharp Lucas will bring).

Or Defense is not thin, other than an out of form CB and a LB coming back from injury.

Our Attack was thin but now we have 2 first name on a team sheet guys for the front 3, plus a striker back from injury and teenage wonderkid that just needs a little less pressure and some rest, backed up by a potentially great new no. 10.

In what way are we *not* stronger now that Dec 31st?

SpudRed

It's a clearing out so that funds and wages can be available for the summer, I think it's a wise move, no use having a goal keeper on our books that has only played 4 times in his entire PFC career

31 Jan 2013 19:42:01
persons. Look at the top 3 spending clubs in the premier league in the last 3 years. Liverpool's name will appear in that list. cant believe we are linked to sinclair and ince. why pay more for someone we let go and wasnt good enough as for sinclair very average at best player. but knowing us well bid crazy mony and squad not improved. I believe city will come in for suarez and skirtel, reina will go back to spain and if gerrard gets injured we are doomed surly the board has learnt its lesson believe in the youngsters wisdom sterling robinson etc and don't go down the road we went 2 years ago big mony bad signings on impulse

31 Jan 2013 19:30:16
i agree an posted this the other day RVP 29yrs old 1 year left on contract = 24 million or round that figure

luis suarez 26yrs old signed 5yr contract a couple of months back so do the math suarez is easily worth £60million if torres was worth £50million but don't really matter because he wants to stay in Liverpool

Anybody that thinks we can get 4th should wise up, sweeping changes needed in the summer, reinas poor aggers soft as custard, Allen borini suso sterling too light weight, we need a bit of muscle in this squad or we will be going nowhere fast

May agree with Allen, Borini, Suso and Sterling being a bit lightweight, and maybe Reina being poor (at the moment), but no way is Agger soft, by far and I mean far our best defender, just a shame Jamie ain't 5 years younger, because that is the type of player Agger needs beside him. Danny is the ball playing defender, as opposed to the stopper, which is what we need.

31 Jan 2013 17:19:23
{Ed001's Note - Vorm, a couple of German keepers, one being the lad everyone seems to love Ter Stegen, I have been told there is a couple playing in Italy we are monitoring, but I don't trust much coming from Italy. One thing for sure, we will be going for one who can play out from the back, that is what we are looking at. It will probably become clearer after the January window shuts and the scouts settle down to watching keepers more closely. }

It would be foolish of us to replace another experienced senior with a young inexperienced player, i. e ter Stegen. Not just for the obvious reasons, but it will also hamper the progress of Academy starlet Ryan Fulton, in 5 years time (possibly even less) he will be ready for the first team.

We need to sign a GK that fits the playing profile, but also age and most importantly, experience. Claudio Bravo would be my personal shout.

Mr Steinhaus.

That Mexican lad with 11 fingers.

Take it this is Ryan Fulton talking?

I hope we sign Begovic in the summer if we lose Reina. Seeing as Butland rejected Chelsea talks because he wants to be first-team, he isn't going to agree to be second-fiddle at stoke - Begovic is definitely leaving come summer if that transfer goes through. Arsenal, City and Spurs all have keepers who I can't see them replacing, I don't see United dropping De Gea after just two seasons and Chelsea might want a keeper but whoever goes there would be playing back up for a while at least so I'd say we'd have a great chance on that one

31 Jan 2013 16:56:21
Given that it doesn't seem likely we're going to do much of anything transfer wise today, what are everyone's thoughts on BR first two windows?

My opinion is overall I think the overall squad we have now is substantially stronger than what he started with, but I have to admit I'm not really sure that our first 11 (who that is exactly is difficult to identify) is possibly less strong (or at least not really improved). What I mean by that is if I look at the bench from the game against Arsenal we had Jones, Enrique, Skrtel, Shelvey, Allen, Borini, Sterling. That's what 40M or so worth of players on the bench? Not a bad thing necessarily and much better than what we had previously, but I wonder if perhaps instead of having Allen and Borini on the bench (although personally I quite like both) it might not have been more effective to have spent that 25M plus the 12M on Sturridge on a stronger strike partner for Suarez? Then just have say Suso and Yesil on the bench instead?

I guess my question is it better to have a very strong starting 11 (on a more or less permanent basis, baring injuries and suspensions which could be covered by youngsters) or is it better to have a less strong starting 11 with a stronger bench to back them up? Thoughts?

RDL

The idea, obviously, is to have a strong first choice XI and then a strong bench and some youth pushing to get selected. Without competition for places, a lot of these 'professionals' take their proverbial foot off of the pedal and coast for a few games.

Not to mention, that even with competition pushing you on, there will be dips in form and spikes in good form that means you need to be able to rotate players in that are of high enough quality to keep the team winning.

If we had a first choice XI and only players like Suso, Yesil, etc on the bench then the pressure to be top of your game or your get dropped just goes away. Plus, one or two suspensions, injuries, or dips in form means you lose a few games that you should take points from.

SpudRed

Good reply, SpudRed.

The difficulty I see in trying to have a strong bench (which is what I think BR is shooting for) is you're also going to have a fair amount of unhappy players (e. g. neither Allen or Borini are probably very happy right now). I'm also not sure rotating several players (potentially) a game is really a great idea as then the team doesn't really ever gel together very well.

On the flip side, what you say has a lot of merit as well, so I'm a bit torn on this one.

RDL

31 Jan 2013 16:23:08
if we were to sign someone today, which area do you think needs the most work, the defensive midfield position or the centre back position? Or couldn't we just sign a player who can play both like a Mascherano type player where he can play both positions just like at Barcelona.
Thanks eds

Like masch, so a 5 foot 6 centre back?

I'd have to say CB, or preferably a LCB that can play LB as cover. Honestly, by the time a new CDM beds in to the team Lucas will probably have regained full match sharpness anyway, or Allen will have found his start of season form again.

Ideally, a Luiz Gustavo signing would give us CB, LB, CDM cover. Not a chance of that happening, but this is a reply to an 'IF' statement.

a great move for borini, readin, swansea and roma, a nad Liverpool, BR knows how to pick them, I just hope we get some muscle and experience in defence and midfield before the window shuts, maybe the we will have a chance at getting close to 4th

we were unlucky last night, but the midfield let the arsenal players run through them again, we need a big strapping def-mid with a bit of nouse, hope fu;;y we get some one, oldham showed all the other teams that we have a soft midfield

This kind of post drives me nuts.

How, exactly, did Oldham demonstrate anything at all in regards to LFC other than our kids are not ready and the rebuilding project is far from finished?

We didn't start our two first choice CM's in Lucas and Gerrard, and the whole team is still in the rebuilding phase anyway, and the kids that we picked just didn't have the experience to deal with an overly physical side and a horrible pitch. And yet, somehow, this shows all the other EPL teams that all they have to do is play like Stoke and they'll destroy our first choice team at a moments notice.

I think my post makes perfect sense

Scouse Red.

Billynoname

Because posters don't have to sign their posts mate. I sign as ''BoriniCanDoIt'' at present. But I don't always type it out at the end of a comment. The words someone types are more important than who typed it, and it leads to less ad hominen attacks. In a sense, I don't want people to agree with me because of something I said/typed previously, or because my name is or isn't ''regular'' for example. I want people to agree with me because what I said was sound of mind and logical, or truthful.

I don't post ''rumours'' unless I source where i've got the info from, also I usually trash the source as to show my take on the gossip, I post ''confirmed'' transfer news if I see it and think it's relevant from the BBC/Sky or LFC website. Some people take a lot of negative comments for their honest heartfelt opinions at times, which is another factor. The net can be awesome as the propagation of good opinions and ideas generally outweighs bad opinions and ideas on the internet.
So their are many reasons as to why people don't sign posts.

I love the anonymous factor where it still exists but it can be hard to find previous posts you've made unless you sign it and have a reference to track back. Double edged to a degree but obviously the editors get the chance to see a bit more than the common footfall do. So if someone's making a jackass or nuisance of themselves and causing some mini hysteria the Ed's can always intervene, put a post into context, or straight refute the opinion with a rebuttal. It doesn't much matter in the grand scheme of things.

I also think when people first stumble across the site, the temptation to post every bit of news about their club can be quite tempting, this can also lead to people drawing conclusions, making assumptions and assertions and delivering it in a way like it's happening. If people posted ''in my opinion'' at the beginning of their posts it would be a lot more rational.

BoriniCanDoIt. (just for your sake mate :)

Um 'Scouse Red' is hardly signing off really nor is 'Belfast Pete' for that matter but its what we do. .

I did read your whole post, in fact I did so twice and took a few notes on an old bit of newspaper (along the lines of 'dagger floating! Suarez 'did little' SG 'Pottering about!)' before responding - as I said, no offence, I just thought that your criticism of the players was out of line with how they actually played in the match and a wee bit rubbish.

Belfast Pete

That was me earlier.
I know a little of what mike marsh does because I work at the club and have met people who have worked with him and they say good things about him, what he does as a coach and mention the fact that he came through the system at Liverpool, and with so many young players being brought through he's a good link for that and is helpful to them.
Marsh as a player was actually, esspecially as a young player, a very good player and hadn't he got all the injuries he had would have gone on to be a very good player and had a good career. At that time I was on the old kop every home game.
I didn't agree with what you said about Agger because he's a top class defender and pretty much any team in the premier league would love to have him. He's one of the best centre halves in europe and should be played in his best position, esspecially in the peak of his career. Downing is not and never will be a left back or a defender in any way shape or form.
If we're talking about the team moving on and becoming consistant, playing half the team out of position is certainly not the way to do it. You know that and I know that.
So in reallity your post doesn't make sense and I gave my opinion, which I'm entitled to do and I'm under no obligation to sign my post. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

we are going down the same road as kk did2 years ago (henderson adams downing) desperate not good enough signings sturridge 12m chelsea must be laughing all the way to the bank, now the milan midfielder who I've never heard off if he's that good why are they selling. predictions we will not make europe next year mid table finish lose to zenit next week and worse suarez will leave. gerrard and suarez needs rest but we got no one to fill their boots, they are starting to look jaded. rodgers was out of order slagging young lads at oldham. carrager should have started and should have been captain we lacked a leader rodgers should have seen that {Ed001's Note - the fact you haven't heard of Coutinho just suggests a complete lack of knowledge of football, rather than there being any issue with the player. You don't even know enough to know that Milan are AC Milan and we bought him from Inter, who are never referred to as Milan.}

Ah si, Internazionale! Forza Coutinho, forza forza!

. . sorry, got a little carried away there.

Red Ollie

Yeah in your face !
Well said eds

Who'd heard of Hyppia? Who'd heard of Agger? Who'd heard of Skrtel? Who'd heard of well you get the picture. Have faith.

Haha Brendan was out of order slagging off our young players. Oh dear this has got to be a joke !

London red

Coutinho is a magician will all be singing his name very soon, he will be an excellent addition to our team as much as suarez did when was singed up or even more, hw will need time to settle.

Brendan did what any good manager should do, and kick the youngsters up the rectum for a woeful display. They had a chance to make a point and they blew it, I don't see your problem.

Sturridge at £12m, in a January market, is really not bad business.

As for Coutinho. You're one of those fans who will be telling everyone "I told you he was gunna turn good"

nothing to do with the transfer window but i'm beginning to wonder when will BR realise we're a much better and more fluid team when Joe Allens not in the team, all he does is slow the play down and continually play the ball backwards, he can't tackle and offers little going forward, the welsh xavi, come on BR your avin a laugh ent you, atleast this transfer window has been better than the summer.
paul d {Ed001's Note - funny, that is exactly what all the Barca fans used to say about Xavi until he reached his mid-20s. Not comparing the 2 as players, they are light years apart, but I would have thought Liverpool fans would have learnt to give a player time to settle in before they judge them.}

Wasn't the point of buying English players to reduce the time they need to settle since they have premier league experience? Maybe in the future, we need to target players who have high level experience, as the adaption from mid table/bottom half side to champions league contender side for me seems more difficult from other leagues to prem.

RDR

Wow - of course BR should listen to some of the fans that want to pick the team - if you ask nicely he may even offer you some of his wages.

To all the moaners and groaners, I'd like to ask a question. What would FSG have to do to get you on side? They've invested ridiculous amounts of money into the club. They've spent over £150 million in transfers and covered huge losses which I believe total around £100 million.
They saved us from oblivion and are investing to bring us back to the top. What do you actually want from them? We should be a self sufficient club, and not rely on the owners pumping in millions. They deserve more respect from 'supporters' who threaten and abuse them.
But yeah, it'd be interesting if someone answer me why FSG are viewed so negatively by some on this site?
Daniel YNWA

Because people love to moan, which reminds me - why does my Mrs keep leaving her dirty knickers on the kitchen floor?!
Loves ya babes xx :)

Mate, they could spend £100million and people would complain about not signing him, him or even him.

31 Jan 2013 15:52:15
Omg I wish the eds would tell us what happened with doni! The website ed02 says never works :( my only guess is that he got home sick and refused to come back lol {Ed002's Note - We have zero interest in gossip.}

Zero interest in gossip that's what the site is isn't it? {Ed001's Note - no, transfer rumours, not gossip, there is a huge difference.}

You might not 002, but we certainly do. Lol.

I know ed02 it's one of them things that you can't help but wonder! It must of been bad what he done if you won't say

Am I the only person who doesn't get why Liverpool should sign jack butland? I've watched him at Birmingham and he's not that good, infact we are better off sticking with jones, unfortunately, don't waste our money on him at all and let stoke buy him instead, disaster averted

31 Jan 2013 15:43:25
Hi edz, thank you for all your work on this site it has me hooked all the time! Think we have done some great business this window! Do you think there might be another in today? Either way still great business! GaryLFC

31 Jan 2013 15:42:39
Cant believe we arent making another signing here on deadline day! going to be a mid table finish at best as its proven we can't rely on our youngsters! So devestated and upset to be a Liverpool fan!

Maybe you want 'arry to be the manager and sign players for elevated prices and wages, like chris samba 12.5m and 100k a week and bankrupt the club like he did at portsmouth and like he's doing now at QPR.
If you knew anything you'd know that january isn't really the time to do business, let alone transfer deadline day, and the fact that this month we got sturridge for 12m and coutinho for 8.5m for me is brilliant.
Our proper business will be done in the summer.

Oh yer, you sound sincerely like a Liverpool fan
Boring fool. . .

Jesus christ, what is up with people. . We have spent well in this window. Players need time to bed in and adapt to the system
All you Joe Allen haters will be eating their words, this boy is a big talent and has a massive future, I just hope it's with Liverpool

Macca, Now that pacheco has gone on loan. Do you think this will be a last bit of transfer business? Or is there a chance of a late bid for ince? Or anyone do you think we will do any more business this window?

Zach

31 Jan 2013 15:35:44
Not a rumour but 100% Fact, heard this from Rodgers himself. .

Going to do business early, looking for 3 players, thin squad so have to improve the depth there aren't enough players here.

100% fact not rumour. Tom Werner - This is going to be an exciting window, lots of targets, working on targets to improve the squad that is too small.

Outgoings: 5 players

Incoming: 2 players

100% Fact not rumour, from FSG - Brendan can have who he wants, we can compete in the transfer market with anyone. BR wanted more players coming in then going out as the squad is too thin. BR wanted Ince amongst the incomings.

100% Fact not rumour

Rodger's 01/09/12. Bitterly disappointed not having a striker that we so desperately need. Would not have let certain players go out if I knew we didn't have anyone coming in. Was told we would have a forward player coming in.

The Sturridge deal was that deal, it was left over from August 2012, hence done within days of January 2013.

Fact 100% not Rumour - F$G have mugged the LFC fans off with this poor transfer business yet again, but still expect 4th place Champions League and to compete

How is spending £20 million on new players a 'mugging off'?

Adam

Are you going to leave your name or sources or are we just going to believe that when you say "100% Fact" that you are telling the truth?

100% FACT, from Andy Carroll- "I didn't feel at home at Liverpool. I understand I was the greatest player they had but they wanted to replace me with some small Argentinian lad from Spain. "

Give over.

Redfellar

Concentrate on Chelsea Rafa!

I don't think the window was bad at all, happy with the Coutinho and Studge but do agree the owners need to say less in the media, as I've said all along!

K-Man

Good Post Antrim Red

Fact 100% not rumor- you have no idea what you're talking about.

I think perhaps you need to stop taking things people say so literally.

'Thin squad' isn't in terms of quantity, but quality.

We were looking at 3 targets, 2 of them panned out, the third doesn't appear to have- get over it.

It was an exciting window with two good transfers in.

The owners said 'we have the resources to compete with anyone' they did not say they had an unlimited checkbook. By resources that means things other than just money (e. g. the youth setup).

And finally, writing down 'F$G' makes you look like a mug, not them.

RDL

So, Rodgers was disappointed in not getting a striker at Swansea last January?

Mate you are such a tool it's unreal. 'Mugged the LFC fans off' - have a word with yourself. One of the highest spending teams in the summer and in January. How exactly has that mugged you off? Do you have shares invested in LFC or something? Can't understand how you think you matter in regards to any kind of transfer business. Jerk.

Fowler99

"Argentinian lad from Spain"

Who's that then?

Just some fella from Barcelona, I think Crowman. Apparently he's been scoring for fun. . no clue though as to who it is. .

Where are all the rumours about a mate's brother's missus talking to a taxi driver who's a mate of Falcao's saying he was definitely signing for the Reds because he's a lifelong fan, 100pc true?

This is supposed to be a rumour site on transfer deadline day! ;-)

31 Jan 2013 14:45:51
Ok, so a quick overview of the expected LFC last minute signings today:

Momo Diame, Modibo Diakite, Julian Draxler, Viktor Fischer, Luiz Gustavo, Mauro Icardi, Stevan Jovetic, Mauro Zarate, and of course David Villa for a bit of experience up front.

Should be a busy day. But I still feel like we're missing out on someone.

SpudRed

It's Jesus. We're missing the "LFC are signing Jesus because they need a miracle to get 4th" jokes. Because they're not old. Not at all. .

Redfellar

Butland! We missed out on Butland, but it was not our fault - the new player's bus was so full that he fell off the window at Stoke, and Pullis mugged him into sighing for them!

Be warned - pathetic clowns prepared to say anything in order to convince Fans that FsG are the devil. reason for this - Kenny getting the sack. .

Ince in (if blackpool realise they will only end up losing out in the summer) and if reports are to be believed that ince only wants Liverpool move then they will lose out in the summer other than that I can not see us doing any more buisness.
unless all this propaganda about Skirtle triggers a late move.

This is for EDs001 & 002 if possible? I understand it a busy day & you guys must be hectic with all the gr8 wrk you guys do but uf you could give me you opinion on lfc, as I understand EDs001 supports lfc & 002 Chelsea? Jus wondered if you thought the progress made by both clubs this season frm opposite direction, I.e EDs 001 on Chelsea & vice versa? & if you believe future is bright for either both clubs?
Many thanks love the site. {Ed001's Note - hard for both of us to reply to one post with our current system, sorry. You will have to settle for my reply for now. In my opinion, Chelsea have bought good young players, they are in a period of transition, but will be in good shape when they have a new manager in place.
We are also in transition, but we need some stability, to settle down and get used to way Rodgers wants us to play. The youngsters should improve and gain experience and we should get stronger over time. We do still need to strengthen the team and squad, but we can now settle down to evolve it over time.}

31 Jan 2013 11:36:55
Hey ed001, what are your thoughts on last night's game? It looked like a perfectly executed match, but then Arsenal just overrun us - I haven't seen such a trampling in a very long time. Are they getting into a good form, or are we weaker in midfield, if anything, I thought our midfield would have advantage, but their passing and speed seemed too much for us to cope with.
Still, it seems like two points missed, but I think we achieved the minimum goal for the match which will keep us on the fringes of the top four battle - we are one strong push away from storming into the mix!
Do you think that with some good form and consistency against the weaker sides, we could overrun Arsenal and possibly Spurs?
And also, I no nearly nothing about team fitness, but some of the team looked really tired towards the end of the match, does this spell bad fitness, or would it be dealt with before the city game? Basically, Manc' squad is weakened, and we should have a fighting chance of walking away with something from dread Emirates, but they do have a day more to rest than us. .

Cheers,
it's an entertaining week!
Drigan {Ed001's Note - the problem was more that we stopped pressing them, probably due to be being tired from constantly having to chase after the ball following our players giving the ball away. We do still have a few confidence issues in the team, clearly shown by the way we put no pressure on the ball carrier every time Arsenal broke on us. We were allowing them to run it into our half as every player was too busy getting back into position, rather than the nearest player having faith and confidence in his team mates to cover if he pressure the ball. That will take time to come though, players need to play together and grow together to gain an understanding. I think top 6 is our likely finish to the season, any more is a bonus when we are doing a rebuild.}

Ed001, I agree with you about the way the midfield let the other team run at us through the midfield, I've witnessed this over the last 2 seasons, we just let players run through our mid, I can't understand why we can't tackle them further up the field

mickey b {Ed001's Note - I would hope that would be the next step, it is needed to play possession footie, the high press. Otherwise you give the opportunity to your opposition to take control of the ball and rest their legs.}

31 Jan 2013 15:27:15
Do we have an interst in Ron Robert Zieler? top notch German keeper who could replace Pepe. I don't mind that we have lost out on Butland to be honest.

Amorebieta would be my first choice to replace Skrtel if he goes in the Summer. I think Amorebieta will also be available on a free in the summer? Diakite looks no world beater from what I have seen of him and if he was to replace Skrtel I would be shocked. I think cashing in on Skrtel is the right thing to do. We will get a hefty fee from Russia and we have got the best from Martin.

if anyone can enlighten me that be great why is it we had to loan pacheco again what kinda contract is he on I mean its like aquilani its holding us back keeping these players talk about not having the "steel" required

I highly doubt pacheco is on the same kind of money aquilani was even if it is a lot for a youngster. I can't believe sterling is on 40k a week

Anyone see the collapse of the fencing barrier in Brazil?

Let this be a lesson and reminder to the pro-standing boys 'n' girls.

For many of us, we need no more reminders.

DaveyBootle

31 Jan 2013 15:38:27
while I agree we should not bring back barriers like used to be I think why would there need to be pens why couldn't clubs just rip up seats an let people stand that's what happens anyway. no metal fences not barries nothink this way if there was a problem people could just go on to the pitch without any problems

If your logic holds true you wouldn't be against banning planes, trains and automobiles as well.

Celtic fan here, I seen on The Ranger's 5088 banter page that Stevie G's testimonial match will be against them, surely this is a wind up boys? Why would Liverpool want to play the newest team in Scotland? These Zombie's forget that there a complete new team, just a tribute team to The old Ranger's. Be good if it was against us, Atmosphere would be bouncing, all the best lads for the Europa League and top 4 chase. DaleBhoy1888

31 Jan 2013 14:10:41
What a rubbish window we all had high hopes what did we get 2 squad men from chelsea. Inter br said before the squad was thin we have got rid of 2 & bring in 2 we needed experinced players not a kid from inter we had a chance for champions league but that's gone with these buys

We've signed a striker who SHOULD have been starting for Chelsea. He's a damn sight more prolific than Torres anyway. Sturridge is a a quality striker who has a very good scoring record. I don't know much about Coutinho, but I do know that many have talked about his potential, so we'll see what he can do. There's a reason why Inter Milan, recent European Cup winners brought him in the first place.
Remind me, how often were Cole and Sahin playing?
They were both sucking money out of the club and for whatever reasons not playing. It was critical to have them leave.
Once again we have been one of the highest spending teams in a transfer window, yet you believe it has been 'rubbish'.
I have to ask the question, what would constitute as a good transfer window in your eyes?
Daniel YNWA

Good job your not the manager

You fall for his blarney all the time, now samba would have had the experience we need

It's wonderful to see how supportive you are of the new boys. I'm very disappointed with that Chelsea 'squad' boy who's a starter for us. I mean, he's only scored 3 and stricken up a really good partnership with Suarez! Pathetic!

And that Coutdingo fella. . I mean wow. He can't even get a game for us! Didn't even make the bench for the Arsenal game!

Support your team and buy a scarf

Not expecting any transfers in today but Pacheco gone back to Spain on loan.

Have the Ed's heard anything about MODIBO DIAKITE from Lazio? Available on a free transfer in the summer.

I'm sure we'll be looking at defenders in the summer with question marks over the futures of Carra, Skrtel & Coates. {Ed002's Note - Search engine please.}

31 Jan 2013 13:52:52
What is happening to reina?? Why did he not come out and comand his area by punching the free kick? Think we need to get begovic from stoke and cash in on pep. .

31 Jan 2013 18:01:57
Cos the freekick was too good?

No 'keeper would've gotten to that unless they'd knew in advance where it was going and stood further off their line whilst waiting for it, in which case the free taker would've put it to the near post instead leaving Reina stranded.

I know that professional football punditry suffers from the defence consensus, whereby every goal is the result of a defensive or goalkeeping error, and that rubs off on the fans a bit, but sometimes the attack is just too good.

31 Jan 2013 13:49:30
I didn't get back from the game untill the early hours last night so I've had the day off. I'm watching the game now. 23rd minute 14 seconds, Arsenal chance where Podolski pulls the ball across the box for Giroud. If anyone's got it taped, watch Gerrard. He starts off behind Giroud, comes across him and intercepts what would have been a clear goal scoring opportunity. Quality from the captain. You don't get that anticipation from the kids, in fact you don't get that from Johnson and some of the other experienced players and it's a fundamental flaw in the team. You need that type of anticipation throughout the team and untill it's addressed Rodgers can try and play as much tikki takka football as he likes but it won't win a thing.

Ozone

31 Jan 2013 14:47:28
Maybe it's because Gerrard is the best English midfielder in decades that he was able to read that, and nothing to do with Rodgers style?
Johnsons an international, but as you say he wouldn't have done it so just buying experienced players wouldn't sort it out per say!
WelshBoyDave

It had nothing to do with tiki-taka, it was stamina and concentration, which we lacked. I think we get ahead and suddenly start to relax, this is something the likes of United would not do.

Adam

I'm not saying it has anything to do with tikki takka Adam, I'm saying tikki takka won't work untill Rodgers addresses concentration levels etc. I agree with what you say. It is the big difference between us and Utd. The quality in thir team isn't a great deal better than ours. However, their players attitude, stamina and concentration is far superior to ours and consequently they not drop points uneccesarily like we do.

He's not actually that good.
And we can't just sign every single player that every club buys!!
'Get Negredo because Everton might get him'. 'Get Siem De Jong before he goes to Newcastle!' It's pathetic!

31 Jan 2013 13:46:10
How many of you would like us to sign Frank Lampard on a 1 year contract.

He maybe 34 years old, but has 9 goals so far this season, he is certainly experienced and in my opinion would be worth a punt.

Red Lee

We should learn from our country's lessons.

Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard cannot play together, and out the two, like England, I'd rather have Gerrard.

Gerrard and Lampard? If only that worked sigh

Why have fat frank?

31 Jan 2013 13:42:37
I posted a while ago with regards to Gerrard dropping into the back 4 alongside Agger.
Well again last night you couldn't fail to notice how quickly Steven can get to players who look likely to score he's still got great speed over a couple of yards.
Johnson, Gerrard, Agger, Enrique with Lucas sitting in front would give us the platform to go and play.
Steven Gerrard is the one player in the whole Premier League that could consistently hit pinpoint 40yd passes out of defence, he can read the game, tackle and is also a great header of the ball.
I stated last season it would extend his career by at least 3 seasons and with the players we now have at the club and the right sided cb position a problem.
I can really see it happening and Stevie doing a Lothair Mathias; that's how highly I rate our captain.
We will have a solid back 4 with pace class and experience and a mix of youngsters and class in midfield and upfront with pace, enthusiasm and energy and goals!

Its not Blackadder, its Fawlty Towers, your sources are dodgy.

I heard that Ian had popped around with a menswear catalogue so Brendan could choose a new jacket (one that actually fits).

I reckon those in close proximity to him last night feared for their safety, because if that zipper had of blown it would have certainly taken someone's eye out. . except Wenger of course, because he doesn't see anything!

I know it is unlikely now that ince will sign this window but other clubs seem to be able to do deals which leave young players at current clubs for the ret of a season with a commitment to buy / already buy a player (zaha for example) is this a possibility and if not why do we not look at these types of deals? I worry fsg commitment to youth etc will lead to us becoming a feeder club for other euro teams especially when they openly talk about buying players which will have a high future sell on value

any chance of a strong or experienced defender or midfield? Diame, lampard, Parker, all ideal. I think we need a big strong defender too.

Just an opinion like, its very unlikely but I would like us to sign a defensive player, centre back or defensive midfielder. Some one who can handle the more physical players who seem to bully us so far this season.

Hi eds, is there any information as to why Pacheco couldn't make it at Liverpool? I doubt it is a talent as he has plenty of it. Does he not work hard enough? Poor attitude? Off field problems? Any definitive answers? Much appreciated {Ed002's Note - Search engine please.}

Attitude, lack of desire, lazy.

All this supposedly ''No more transfer business" is all a bit dull. Couldn't you pull out one little transfer please? Something to get us all a bit more excited about? Pretty Please!

Not a bad result in the end last when looking back. Would have definitely took a point before the game, no so happy with it after being 2 up. 2 Basic defensive mistakes in the space of 7 minutes let us down. On the right path though, future is bright. Roll on Ciiiteehhh. YNWA.

Suarez has officially told that he wanna be long term at Lfc. So please stop those rumours. And like Sturridge, Coutinho is a excellent bargain signing. U'll c. I expect this to be our first 11, Reina, Jose, Agger, Carra, Johnson, Lucas, Gerrard, Hendo, Coutinho, Suarez, Sturridge. I feel is a best attackin line up. One more physically strong defender instead of Carra would be complete. While Diakite has told his 1st preference is Liverpool, and v can sign him on a pre-contract.

So it's "V" for victory then ?

Not quite sure what to make of last nights game.
Carra was fantastic.
Thought Jonjo could should have come on, toghen up the mid field.
A bit disappointed with Lucas though, just not quite right, Wisdom and Johnson were poor.

Sadly two desperately needed points squandered.
We really have no answer for the top teams at the moment, that is worrying.
I still don't see the progress I would expect.
4th place does not seem possible!.

we don't have the pace on wings. .
downing looked awful. .
but still a point at the emirates is wonderful. .
giroud, waloct, wilshere, carzola and podolski. hammerd us in sthe second half. .

Johnson was excellent he gave 100%

Liverpool will not be singing anyone else this window. Rodgers said no more, so there will be no more. Last window when he said no more on deadline day, everyone still had their hopes up on a last min overpriced purchase of Dempsey, the same thing will not happen again this window with Ince or anyone. We have 2 players on, Sturridge quality, and hopefully coutinho is the same and can stand up to the physicality of the PL because he looks a bit lightweight. Anyway no more deals. Hopefully next window some more top quality because we're still not good enough for top 4. Cheers, Gareth

Even though Liverpool did try to buy Dempsey on the last day. Don't read into everything you hear. If the club can negotiate a good deal for someone today, they will

And torres definately won't be leaving for £50million

31 Jan 2013 11:10:43
It's not Skrtel's form we should be overly worried about.
Daniel Agger is a good footballing centre back but not able to mark his man is costing us goals.
# 1 Kenwyne Jones goal vs Stoke.
# 2 Van Persie goal vs United.
# 3 Giroud goal vs Arsenal.
I like the lad but feel he needs to sort out his concentration.
That's only 3 goals off the top of my head but there's definitely been others like it this season.
Hope he sorts himself out, but until then I'd rather play Skrtel with Jamie.
Think our window is done now too.
In the summer:
Think we need a dominant centre back of the Hyypia mould but not many out there at the moment, unless Coates can beef up in the summer which I'd prefer.
Also would like a battler in midfield with height for the Stoke type games (6 foot plus). (Diame?)
And would like one more poacher - spend whatever is left in the summer budget to get a fox in the box. (Would love David Villa but unlikely due to age).

Ian Ayre's ear lobe's wrinkles.

I thought the same last night as well.
How can he be so dominant in the opposition's area and then completely mis-judge a ball in our area. For a centre half to do that I thought was poor. Agger seems fine winning a header from the keeper but is suspect when it comes to set pieces and corners.
Only my opinion. . I don't want him sold or anything but that goal cost us big time as Arsenal looked bereft of ideas before that goal and as soon as it went in you knew it would be 2-2.
Gave them just the lift they needed.

Many on this page says top four should not be a priority this year. Well it is your opinion. But if Suarez, Skrtel, Agger, Lucas leaves. We will get a gard time the next 10 years

31 Jan 2013 10:08:23
Hi eds, your opinion pls, we have Stevi, Henderson, jonjo, Allan, suso and assaidi as attacking midfielders and now we got continuo!! Do you expected any of them to move on? We all know that we are in need of defensive midfielder, left back and center back, do you know why we keep bringing players in possession that we are well covered? Thanks {Ed001's Note - Steven Gerrard and Joe Allen tend to play deeper for us, Jonjo Shelvey has a very good chance of going out on loan. Assaidi is a winger and Suso covers the wings as well. We bought Coutinho to provide more goals and assists, that was our main weakness and our priority had to be to fix that. So Sturridge and Coutinho arrived. I don't understand why you see it as a problem?}

31 Jan 2013 09:40:41
Hi eds, instead answering all the questions, could you not add info to the rumors page as you get it (bit like you did with the 'sneijder note' ie, if you hear of a concrete offer on say Coates, to have that at the top of the page)

Just a thought

Cheers

Ray {Ed002's Note - It was tried before - sadly it makes no difference to the level of questions.}

There is no way that we will receive a fee for Coates . . . like Cole and Aquilani, we will have to pay a club to take him .

Sad but true .

Eds - maybe you should put an info tab at the top of the page saying;

'Don't ask about putting the top story in this info tab as it doesn't work'. .

The amount of times this gets asked, I don't know how you all maintain your equilibrium; I'd be launching my laptop out the window (again).

Before the silly season comes to a close a word of thanks to the Eds for puting up with all of us (and no, I'm not saying that 'to get posted')

Baffles me why LFC haven't signed a Left Back and a CB this window. All the focus has been on attacking play, whereas our defending has gone to pot. Does Rodgers even know how to coach a defending unit?

Certainly you agree that attacking was our priority. Our defence certainly needs work, but it's not horrendous.

Hi, Great Performance to get 2-0 up last night, defended stoutly, but does anyone else think we should have brought Skrtel on, and enrique at that point, and taken wisdom and hendo off (He had been immense but was tiring). Gone 3-5-2, and just added a bit more steel to get the result. I thought we switched off at 2-0 and we didn't get back on it until they equalised. Still, despite the disappointment, I think BR would have taken the result at the start. Another good performance against City at the weekend, and we can push on. Keep the Faith Reds, the good times are close. Coutinho could be that playmaker that we have been lacking.

While watcjing the game yesterday it was at times scarey to see how easily Ersenal just ssemed to walk through the mid field, Thought Carra was very good, Johnson at times looked very suspect as did Wisdom,, Up front we still seem "lightweight" Suarex was out muscled as was Sturridge,, I think at times we could still use Carrol or some one like, to put their weight about against big center halves.

Your right mate, we were lucky last night. Wilshire ran the show and when they broke we looked vulnerable. Luis looks lost on the left and it took 2 Arsenal goals before Rodgers made the change on the left (to little to late, Walcott had been threatening that all game).

Arsenal were the better footballing side, they gave us a lesson in counter attacking football (far more effective than possession crap). What Brendan fails to realise is you have to fight for the right to play tikki takka type football, you earn it. Your not given a god given right to play it just because you have a team of midgets and that's what you do on the training pitch. We were lucky that Arsenal are vulnerable at the back.

We still haven't beat anyone above us and I can't see us getting anything at City on Sunday.

Ozone

Personally, I would have took Luis off last night after they scored their second goal. Walcott had been threatening that down the right all night. Sturridge better as the loan striker. Why was Johnson started on the left with Enrique being fit and needed or his pace to contain Walcott?

Ozone {Ed023's Note - Enrique wasn't 90mins fit. Suarez off, our top scorer who had already scored on the night and who was unlucky not to get a winner at the end?}

Stevie was injured in the first half which slowed him down

I don't think you'd call the setup against Arsenal 'tikki takka'. BR was playing to not lose, thus the deep laying defense. It was more or less classic 'park the bus and hit them on the break' football designed to get at least a draw.

I thought Sturridge looked more of a goal threat on the night Ed0023. I felt that Luis didn't appear to be getting any change out of their defence.

Ozone {Ed023's Note - I wouldn't of took Sturridge off either. Downing off was the change for me and switch Henderson to the right so Wisdom gets the same defensive protection Downing gave him. Put Suarez in the no 10 role and Enrique on the left.}

A couple of points on last night, firstly on Wilshire. He proved to me last night like he often does, what a truly quality number 10 can bring to the team. I for one am hoping Coutinho can have a similar impact for us, as it can have a huge baring on the positive/negative impact of our attacks.

With that in mind I'd like to congratulate Jordan Henderson. We've seen signs of his quality, Blackburn last season, Norwich last week etc But that's commonly been against weaker appointments. Last night he showed how far a wonderful engine, plus some grit and determination can get you. He's unlikely to ever hit Gerrards level, but he may just prove to be his box to box successor.

I've noticed a few negative comments on Lucas, which I think is shocking. The lads been out with two devastating injuries, which not only physically but mentally sees players never recover. He's been excellent in recent weeks, hence the improvement to our side and Gerrard in particular. But against the top sides, with world class pace and movement, he's not quite up to pace. That will return given time, possibly not even this season. Those questioning him need to watch back around 18 months ago, when he man marked the then best player in the league David Silva put of the game, dominating Yaya also. He's a beast of a player and you'll see that again soon.

Overall despite the dissapontment I'm proud of the players last night. Arsenal away is a tricky game for most teams, as despite there defensive frailties they are so deadly going forward. The mental strength and confidence to beat top teams will come, let's just hope it arrives sooner (Sunday) rather than later.

Papa G

Wilshire was allowed to stroll round with the ball. i'd look quality with that kind of space

Wilshire gets too much protection from referees. Look at the free kick he got when no-one touched him. A joke. A good player no doubt about it but he constantly fouls and gets away with it but if anyone sneezes on him he goes down and gets the free kick straight away because its "poor little" Jack.

Ive said in previous posts, Agger I think would be better suited in a floating midfield role for me, he's not that great defensively, especially in the airiel battles.

Skyrtle I hope is on his way out and we replace the CB pairing with defenders who can jump, head a ball and not be bullied by forwards, for me this is a must fix situ NOW.

Lucas and SG were more miss than hit last night, SG was just pottering around midfield not tackling or tracking back, maybe play him 1 game on 1 game off as the fitness levels of the squad seem a way off for some reason.

Downing I think would be better off at LB and move Johnson forward maybe? He again blows hot and cold as a winger, last night ineffective and against Sandro who is not the best defender I've seen.

Suarez looked a little out of it, worked hard but did little I thought, I know he scored but he wasnt his usual self, tired maybe or not happy playing support?

Hendo was ok tonight, industrious, but I felt he was let down a bit by Lucas and SG, and SG`s passing was woeful last night, maybe a day down the opticians for some of the lads as i'm sure they are colour blnd when passing.

Im hoping the new fella Coutino will add a little more going forward but when you let goals in as easy and at the rate we do then surely the management team must address this as soon as.

And can I ask what does Mike Marsh bring to the management? Anyways once again i'm a little dissapointed the way things turned out last night especially with other results.

On a brighter note I thought Carra was immense last night, I think used sensibly he may have another season in him.

Scouse Red.

Mike Marsh offers plenty on the training ground and is a tremendous trainer and is a football man through and through.
How dare you question what he offers in the management in the manner you did when you quite clearly don't know anything about football.
So put Agger in midfield and Downing at left back, even though Enrique is back. Tell you what why don't we put Suarez right back, with Gerrard and Sturridge at centre half and Jones and Reina up front?!

Think Gerrard won the battle with Wilshere personally, great effort especially tracking back.

RobInRed

Sometimes I just end up rubbing my eyes in disbelief and wondering just which football match people were watching.

- Agger in a floating midfield role? Floating? WTF? Do you mean DM or Sweeper? You'd deploy our most mobile CB floating around the midfield? Who would play CB?

- OK, Skyrtle is off form and maybe he's on his way but suddenly now he can't jump or head the ball? He's had some pretty solid years doing a lot of jumping and heading not to mention weighing in with a few goals a season so lets not slag him off too much eh?

-SG 'just pottering about the midfield'? You what? Yes one or two passes went astray in the second half but his tracking back (which you missed apparently) was immense - like the experienced player he is he saw the danger when Johnson was caught upfield and ran back to cover all through the match - definately a 6/7 out of 10 performance from him.
-Suarez 'did little'?!; this is where if you haven't already you start to depart from reality; tracking back, tackling - one great shoulder to shoulder moment on Sagna summed up his industry, also there was his customary reliability in the penalty box (always comes away with a chance or a corner), some fantastic passing - simply put he was all over the pitch doing everything he possibly could for the team, as usual.
-Hendo was 'OK'? I think a player who has been so maligned deserves a little better than that for the way he has started to overcome his lack of confidence by rolling his sleeves up - you can see he's respected by the other players and the coaches as they are all so happy when he plays well. I think we can upgrade 'OK' to 'a really good, hardworking and effective performance capped with a goal which owed more to dogged tenacity and luck than skill but they all count - never stopped running, never stopped closing down and showed he was developing an understanding as to when to run through from midfield to provide an outlet up top - 8/10'.
-As for all this leading to some questioning of Mike Marsh - what do any of us know about what any individual member of the coaching team brings to the equation? I've heard nothing but good things about him and there must be a reason he's now with the senior squad.

So, Scouse Red, no offence mate, we're all on the same team but I think we could all start seeing the positives a bit more rather than these very negative interpretations of players performances.

Belfast Pete

Anyone that says play Agger in midfield? Doesn't know what the hell there talking about?
Agger is left footed and can't use his right.
Great left sided defender but honestly limited as to what other position if any he could play.

People who are happy with last nights result are clueless. To be 2 goals up and draw just shows BR aren't got a clue about tactics. Most of the signing's he has made have turned out to be flops. Allen could not get into most championship teams and he was the biggest signing at a mighty 15 million. How much did the sahin loan set us back? Assadi is crap he offers little or nothing. Borini could not score a goal if he was a yard out and there was no goalkeeper. He has spent the money and we still look crap in defence. He should be judged on signings and results and he aren't really getting any higher up the league. We don't need anymore lightweight flops we need some powerful midfielder like Diame but no we sign another lightweight player who is a big risk considering he goes down like a sack of potatoes anytime he has been touched.

Theres nothing like positivity is there. Allen was excellent last season and the start of this one, in premiership teams. Borini is an italian international, who has been injured and getting his fitness back. Assaidi has only played a couple of times and looked good . Get a grip. . oh and leave your name so we know who you are.

Some people study body language. I study the written word.
Just read through your post and I see you have used the words Crap, Lightweight and the descriptive phrase "Sack of Potatoes"
Crap is a word commonly used by people with low self esteem, they might have social problems, be not very good communicators.
Then you go to use the word Lightweight? Nothing exceptional there until you see the phrase "sack of potatoes" and when you put the two together you start to build a profile of the writer.

UPDATED PROFILE
You are a loner that likes to write to incite, you are overweight and have been called a couch potato, which really hurts you? You dream of being fit and lightweight just like a footballer.

Nothing personal to brendan but could someone explain to me why we have a defender like carragher on the bench johnson playing on the other wing than he plays for his country and
nothing personal to wisdom but he is still only learning but it seems to me that You should have your best quality players on the pitch and leiva nice bloke maybe but not your top 12 yet you consider puting carragher on the transfer market I hope I heard wrong i'm sorry but you really need to look at your decison making even if he is getting older surely he has shown to day he should be on the pitch and if you look at supporters that put him up or close to the top in ratings it seems to me brendan keeps changing his players in positions and not allowing gerrard to come up and making his forwards and midfielders doing defence. Skirtel may be a good defender but how many times has he turned on a free kick at yet carragher wouldn't

Hi eds and fans, I thought well done to the lads the game was good to watch and they did I well. Just slightly concerned the lads in the end looked tired, maybe not recovered well from the last game? Ed001 why did BR take Sturridge off and bring in Enrique ?
Good game lets forward tothe man city one now. We are only getting better, good to see.

He took of Sturridge because he realised that both Arsenals goals came from the left hand side. They needed more support on the left and that's why Enrique came on also Suarez was tired after 70 minutes of stopping Sagna getting forward.

Defenders caught napping. .

Random mistakes, for which we were punished.

Isn't this what Arsenal fans are also saying?

If we had no mistakes every match would end 0-0!

DM2103

I certainly wouldn't say the lfc defence where guilty of mistakes for the arsenal goals, they where just good goals and I don't think the lfc defence could have done much different.as for the 2 lfc goals it was a comedy show by arsenal they had at least 3 opertunities with each goal to clear the danger and didn't defenders at that level should have done a lot lot better

Agger missed his header for first goal, nobody picked up Walcott's run.

Kerryred

A 6-4" attacking striker is usually going to get the run and jump on a defender.and nobody knew giroud was going to play a sublime lay off to walcott, he could have done somthing completly different, you can't man mark everybody, they would have prob scored those goals against real madrid

terrific he is. .his heading capability. movemnt. .and link up with walcot. .fabulous. .
should andy caroll learn from it. we would have never loaned him back. .
the way he heads the ball. the power he produces. .is awesome. I have become a fan of this lad. .
Negrado is a similar mould. . If everton get him for anywhere near 10 mill. .then that's a steal.
we should go for him. .

There's a lot better than Negredo out there.

Our players will be very tired from last nights game. Lucas and SG all looked knackered towards the end. Just hope they can pick themselves up and Cara can play.

For me Man City on Sunday is a massive game as we still haven't beaten a single side above us/around us and with the players we have IMO not acceptable.

Suarez played well on the left last night but IMO he has to play down the centre with Sturridge or by himself.

Changes I would like to see on Sunday are Enrique and sterling back in the side for downing and wisdom, Suarez up front just behind DS.

You missed out an IMO in the last sentence IMO.

Sterling isn't playing anywhere near well enough at the moment. It would be a liability to continue playing him when he is clearly not producing anywhere near his best.

Match Analysis
Played well in attack. Suarez looked shattered when moved upfront after clocking miles down the left. Pleased with a point before but gutted after going 2-0 up. Carragher gave us that leader at the back and it really helped, he was superb. I really think Arsenal were simply sublime for 10minutes and put us to the sword. Henderson was great, few stray passes but never stopped all night and fully deserved his goal. Were definately improving.

Tom Ince. 15 goals in 27 games, in a tough league. . Surely worth a gamble at 6 million. . Certainly at 21 and played more than 70 games, he is a much safer gamble than those which KD and DC took?. . If we don't get him now, I can see the vultures around in summer.

Ince would probably be worth a gamble for 6million, but Blackpool WON'T accept that fee.

Weyland Yutani

But they are happy to accept 8 million even though we have a 35% sell on fee. I hope Reading buy him for 8 and we get 3million for the deal and then do not ever again do business with Blackpool again.

Last nights game shows what determination and passion can do,
even 2 down Arsenal put their heads down and kept working, an attribute that LFC is nowhere near,

why did we sit back and let them attack, where was the passing? everytime we put a couple passes together someone kept punting the ball long upfront, were they thinking somehow Carrol would be up there?

makes no sense to see how players give up so easily, maybe LFC can learn something from arsenal,

lucas, johnson and wisdom looked very suspect last night, Henderson seemed to be to delay his pass by a split second which allowed Arsenal to close up gaps when LFC were in good positions of attack, if only Hendo could start to make that telling pass without having to think it through

Lads look at tonights game from a bit of a different angle, last time we played them they pretty well put us back in our box like a toy they didn't want anymore. Now the opinion is of most that since then arsenal have improved and become better, so taking that onboard for us to be 2 nil up and playing the way we were surely means our improvement is ten fold theirs, same goes for most of our opponents. Using this theory we should continue to improve we just might make a decent push up the table but if we don't look at the signs for next year. I know there are so many holes and cracks in this theory or any other really for it to be so simple but its football and football can be so simple. Plus 1 magic thing bout this wonderful game of ours there is always next season and there always will be.

Incredible game tonight, nice to see Liverpool fc dounterattacks back to their old best (benitez ruined them)

The best defensive performance of any team I have seen this season, amazing performance from the lads. They played with so much grit and determination the defence and midfield were outstanding.

People saying lucas wasnt very good, I thought he was sensational tonight. Broke up so much of arsenals play, what wouldn't igive to have wilshere and cazorla

There was a play from Lucas where I swear he dived in front of a shot from an Arsenal player and blocked the shot with his head. Love to have the game on video to check this one but if anyone also saw it let me know, or upload the video for us to see.

U were watching a diffrent game

Are you on drugs the best defensive performance of the season you must be crazy. We were 2 goals up you muppet. Its useless tactics

You are right. Lucas did dive in front of a shot in the second half. He was superb against arsenal.

Unlucky? Yes, but it was not due to faults in our team but the fight in Arsenal's team to grab them two goals. Suppose by the end of the match I was happy with a point although I would have been completely made-up with Suarez or maybe even Sturridge scoring the rebound in the dying seconds. Carragher's die hard attitude was there for all to see. Truely a Liverpool legend and I for one hope he stays on for atleast another season. Also special mentions for Suarez who not just attacked and did his part but also did his defensive duties to a T. Henderson's confidence is growing and growing and his name is slowly but surely becoming a regular in the starting 11 with Downing who also played his part. Reina, it has to be said, kept us in the game on many occasions tonight and all those fans on here slating him really are really just wrong. . Walcott's goal was unstoppable and came from nothing and Giround's was also a nice, neat finish. Agger also defended well. Great to see Enrique back too! Two player's who were slightly dissapointing for me tonight were Sturridge, who seemed to be scared of the presence of Vermealen and Lucas whose stamina levels really showed tonight. Hopefully that was just a once off from them two. All in all a point at the Emirate's from an in form Arsenal team is good enough for me. Bring on Manchester City. Please God we can get a win! Also, great to see Spurs dropping points again tonight! Not far off top 4 lads! In Brendan We Trust!

Can't be too upset with a draw on the road. I'm glad that BR has come to terms that Joe Allen is not better than Henderson, who gave great effort. Suarez was spent and couldn't pull off any late magic because he worked so hard the first 70 minutes. I like Suarez playing where he is with Sturridge as the striker, but I would have expected them to rotate a little more. It would have kept Suarez more active in the closing minutes. I know we were on our heels in the last 30 minutes of the game, but I would have liked to have seen Sterling come on for Downing in the last 10 to run at the terrible Andre Santos, maybe we would have been able nip a cheap one late. Other than Sagna none of their backs would be able to run with him. I worry that BR didn't bring Sterling on to punish him for the Oldham game. Anyone come up with a Coutinho chant yet?

Suarez nearly snatched all three points at the death but for the keepers finger tips and lick of paint from the post.

Suarez uses his energy extremely efficiently, he worked hard defensively and was puffing but once Sturridge left the field Suarez was rest biting quite smartly, he's a very intelligent player with and without the ball positionally, he's not the quickest but he's the biggest trier.

How many months will be on Ince contract in he summer, 12 month?

31 Jan 2013 00:09:41
I believe we will go for Ince in summer because Blackpool yet AGAIN are taking the p***.

15 goals in 27 games for Ince so far this season. He's not playing as a winger whenever i've seen him, he's been up top. But I understand Blackpool's position and reasoning. We let him go for chump change, no one else's fault but LFC management with hindsight.

Why do we need Ince?

Everton going for Negredo on loan and might sign him end of season for 13 million. How have they managed to make Sevilla think about this!? {Ed001's Note - Sevilla are broke mate.}

31 Jan 2013 08:38:35
Ed001, do you think Sevilla would be willing to sell Navarro or Medel if they got an offer from us?

Hounsred {Ed001's Note - they would sell anyone, if the money was right, they have no choice.}

Erm, because everton are a far more attractive club at the moment than Liverpool or arsenal, going the right way instead of mediocre players and performances again like Liverpool and arsenal

Everton couldn't afford the wages, or the transfer fees

Haha to the guy above Everton are this seasons overachievers like Newcastle last year and look at them now !

We should have wrapped that one up easily. We dropped points not because Arsenal were so good that they forced their way back into the game and their goals were inevitable, but because we decided to help them out as well.

Sometimes we can't do the simple things and in that second half our team was abysmal, all the weakness's in our team were again laid bare.

Suddenly we had no basic passing skills, were unable to hold onto the ball, we kept ceding ground, preferring to sit back and invite waves of easy unchallenged attacks against us, there was schoolboy defending of course, no pressing, slow movement, a total lack of any creativity or forward threat to ease the constant pressure, and when we did go forward it was slow and ponderous and guaranteed to just fizzle out without putting their defence under any serious threat.

We should have been battering that flaky Arsenal defence, it was there for the taking, instead we allowed those guys to come forward from defence an attack us, I bet those Arsenal defenders couldn't believe how lucky they were, any determined team would have chewed them up tonight. We were very lucky not to lose in the end.

Wat

For those 6 minutes Arsenal were amazing, every ball was perfect, we battled hard and defended but they got the break, twice, almost three or four times.

We did the same, it was a back and fourth with the momentum, Arsenal had more shots on target after 90 mins. they were booed by a section of their support. We did well and so did they. It happens but throwing a two goal lead away always sucks the big one. But that game was wide open.

I second it Mate!. .Absolutely gutted with our performance. I am 100% behind BR and this rant is neither against BR nor FSG. .but somehow I wasnt able to comprehend our performance yesterday. I can't believe how many chances we got in 1st half to atleast double the lead but could not due to some poor judgement. .Our midfield was not able to string more than 3 passes when Arsenal pressed. .

Ultimately, when we did doubled our lead it took them 24 seconds to cancel it and we ended the game fingers crossed and happy with a point!. . God! Arsenal were piss poor on the day and their defense was in shambles but still we could not get a win. .This is what is killing me!. .Is it BR fault?. No. But Yes we need to shore up defense. A player like Diame would had been excellent for matches like this. .Against bottom half table teams we can go for kill but for games against top teams we need a strong Defensive Mid like Diame. .I think Lucas is still struggling with fitness and probably afraid to put crunching tackles. .Infact, apart from SG nobody is willing to put aggressive tackles which is annoying, after all this is contact game and not Basket Ball.

On another day I would have been very happy with a point against Arsenal Away but not today. .

Wat? Did you watch the game or just the high lights? Reina made some amazing saves, agger and carra were immense in central defence wisdom and Johnson both excellent in fact our whole team tracked back and defended for big portions of the game hitting on the counter. Yeah we played some great football and their defence was woe ful in first half but we didn't throw away 2 points arsenal fought their way back and scored two very well worked goals draw was deserved.
Very pleased with the team, a draw at emirates a great result. Well done the whole team, hat off to carra Henderson and wisdom.

We need a new CB soon. Sick of this terrible defending, Agger needs a better partnership

Agger made the initial mistake for one of the Arsenal's goals. Carragher got man of the match because he was a beast for the game and threw back the cloclk. A new cb is needed but that can wait for the Summer, if we stick with the personnel at present and Carragher is assessed honestly at the end of the season.

Giroud and Walcott scored, they are top players and in good form, Arsenal have been scoring more than us after all. Suarez added another goal and unlucky not to get a third at the end. Henderson scored the other and if you didn't know any better you'd have thought it was Suarez with the twist and turn then fortunate rebound which he initiated and then the loose ball fell to him and another Hendo goal. It was Suarez'esque all the way, I think it's called learned behaviour and self belief.

My point is Henderson isn't a serious goal threat usually, but he's flourishing of late showing much less fear and finding himself in threatening positions, other players are now chipping in, Allen the other day with another fortunate goal, we lost but he made his own luck. Although Norwich were already rolled over, Sterling made his luck for the fifth goal against them, albeit an own goal and Sturridge has 3 since he moved.

The team is taking shape much better, we'll still get the flappy moments as we saw tonight and have the odd match were we just do not turn up, but it's becoming much more cohesive and fluid. Counter attack against the counter attack masters in their back yard shows incredible versatility, as we don't usually play that way but it suited us for parts. We have to look at the positives.

BoriniCanDoIt.

If you're blaming Carragher, which the post implies, you were watching a different game to the rest of us.

Do we really need more new players? Or do we just need the team to settle and start playing football together? Enough to chop and change, yes to pass and move and back to the Liverpool way.

I think we've done very well to get Sturridge for £12 million, I think he's been in a difficult place at Chelsea surrounded by top dogs and ego's and always being the ''youth lad'' or back up option as it's been. It's good he's got off to a quick start as it takes some of the pressure off.

Also seeing the fans reaction to your instant productivity does wonders for your confidence i've heard. Scoring even in defeat against United is always going to be appreciated whoever you are, i'm waiting to see his psychology after he finds a difficult patch, as all players do. Borini is in one at the moment of sorts after recently returning from injury, he's buckling down hard and doing extra training sessions to help get him up and running.

Coutinho I haven't seen play much, we've all seen the youtube clips but I haven't seen any length of play from him, but Benitez rated him and he did have a decent eye for youth players imo. So I wait with anticipation to see what he can bring to the club.

BoriniCanDoIt.

Downing still not good enough, wisdom a bit clumbersome

Couldn't agree more mate. A lot of fans are very fickle now days. When we win a game it's all fine. When we lose a game they want 6 replacements. BR is doing a great job for the circumstances and I'm sure even he's surprised with the squads transition to the new style, he said realistically we wouldn't qualify for CL this season but we are in with a shot. Sure we don't play it to a tee week in week out but it's defiantly there. We need to do our bit and give our players and manager 100% support and make their lives easier, which has always been the LFC way. In 3 years we will be thanking BR for putting his hand up and being brave enough to stick with these players through their tough times.
You'll Never Walk Alone

Don't listen to Rodgers last comment about not doing anything tomorrow! There will be activity for sure he's just playing a game with press.

We MUST sign Diame as the midfield has no power far to light weight and has no mentality to be consistent! Again if Rodgers wants to keep his job at LFC he must learn FAST! Tonight proved it.

My preferred players to come in tomorrow, Diame (MUST BUY), Diakite & (Zarate on loan) BIG, Strong experienced players! i'd bring in Ince too only if we paid no more than 4 million and include pacheco, suso & robinson in the deal if not walk away!

Have fun watching deadline day!

Cheers PDLFC

Ed001, what's your opinions on Glen Johnson's performances this season? {Ed001's Note - mixed, very mixed. Brilliant at times, awful at others. Sometimes looks so much better on the left, then he is faced with a winger with pace and struggles badly, like tonight. He needs a player in front of him that is willing to give him some protection or to be playing for a team constantly pressing the opposition, in my opinion. If he is asked to drop deep and play as a defender, he just isn't very good. Put him on the front foot, as an auxiliary winger, and he is top class.}

FO Ed001. If GJ could play 100% time RB he would be fantastic for Liverpool. He has had to switch to LB for the last two years. I could not imagine Fergie ever doing this. If he had the best RB in the country he'd play him RB every game, so he could maintain consistency. GJ, has to play there, stay there, play there, stay there. Period. LB has to be solved. That is good management. Playing him LB in the premiere league is just plain dumb. {Ed001's Note - except that he wasn't playing well at RB last season, but played really well when moved to LB. So using him as cover for left back would make sense, on that basis.}

Beg to banter with Ed001, I don't agree GJ ever played bad RB. Last season he was also covering LB. GJ is in my opinion better than kelly and better than Wisdom. Both of whom are fantastic players. GJ is the best RB in the country. If he has an off day, we should not put him LB for cover. He should play and compete for the place of RB. {Ed001's Note - you may not agree, but it is the truth, he was not in good form. He can't defend, if he is the best RB in the country, then that is because of a lack of top class RBs in the country, rather than his own greatness. Yes he is great going forward, but Zabaleta is able to do both and is a much better player. You are deluded if you think Johnson matches him.}

poor defending. . .if Rodgers insists on playing from the back then why oh why does he not buy some defenders who are comfortable with the ball?
Agger and Johnson can play but are defensively suspect (tonight Agger misjudged the free kick for their first goal and got sucked underneath it).
Hansen & Lawrenson could defend, dribble and pass but modern defenders who can do both well seem few and far between.
The philosophy cannot work if you keep playing the ball from the keeper to defenders who can't pass and have static midfielders who give few options. We give the ball away so much in our own half because of lack of options to the player in possession and the player on the ball scared to get rid because the manager forbids it.
All very well buying forward players but if we need to score 3 or 4 to win games because we let so many in the other end then, as has happened, we won't beat the quality sides.
No objection to trying to play the right way but we can't keep carrying defenders, Wisdom, Robinson, Kelly, Flanagan all have potential but we need top quality brought in. Skrtel is not top drawer, Agger has been exposed defensively against Van Persie and Giroud recently, Coates is well. . . .like a giraffe on ice and Reina, though still capable of top class saves (Walcott tonight straight after we scored), is now prone to flat footedly watching goals go in. . . Ramieres FA Cup Final and tonight for example.
I hope we score some goals between now and the end of the season as come the summer we need to look to improve at the back and in central midfield (Allen & Lucas are too limited whilst Shelvey and Hendo show great promise we need one more quality CM right now).
Very much a work in progress, Rodgers needs a very strong start to pre-season and the first 6 games next campaign. This season is simply now about playing for pride and some sort of respectability.
ALB.

Spot on there I have been saying that all season long but i`m not sure mr rodgers thinks the same way as we do. I want Rodgers to sucseed at Liverpool but if he doesn`t solve that problen with our defence and static midfield he is going to fail badly. Surely he can see what our downfalls are by now. If we can see them so should he.

Andy Kophead.
