It may not be the end we craved, but thank you Eds 001 and 002 for your patience this window.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - thank you mate.}

31 Jan 2014 23:41:27
So Ed, with no money being spent in this window, do you expect a couple of top players coming in the summer? I don't mean if the players will come but more in reference to the financial backing by the owners. Do you think they will fund big signings considering we spent nothing this window? Cheers,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - yes, I would expect them to, they were ready to fund them this window, so why not in the summer?}

Well have.stiff competition.for.konoplanaka against.CL teams, will we be CL?

Agree0 Disagree0

But Ed001, they aren't ready to fund top players because unfortunetly they always have greedy agents and other teams in for them. We can't compete against this when we have other teams willing to trump us with ease. The policy is admirable but hardly realistic for 'top top' players - because every team wants these players. It's OK for the Aspas' of this world.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Aspas was wanted by Chelsea, but we managed to get him.}

31 Jan 2014 23:40:46
Team for next season:
Garuda
Dunkin Donuts - Standard Chartered - Carlsberg - Gatorade

Thomas Cook - PaddyPower - MBNA - Stanley - EASports

Jack Wolfskin - Warrior

Good work Ian.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - is Chevrolet on the bench? They won't be happy with that.}

Isn't that 12 players ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 23:40:35
Don't think I've ever been so gutted over a transfer saga before (except maybe Andy Carroll's arrival for £35m). Don't think it can all be pinned on Ayre. Sounds as if their owner dug his heels in deep. Real shame for us and Kono as it seemed as if he was very keen. If we're all honest with ourselves a winger wasn't the most desparate of positions that needed strengthening but as one of the Eds said it would have given us a nice lift. Let's hope the guys we have at the club now will get us in that top 4. YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:40:28
Unbelievable, the club needed that transfer to boost everyones morale for a big push for top 4, now the mancs will catch us and get 4th spot, Ian Ayre has to get the boot

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not fussed about 2 players we were after - Sterling is in good form, rather him than Salah. Konoplyanka was always a no-go because the owner was playing hardball. Would you sell your club's best player? It's just like FSG and Suarez.

Not sure about mancs catching us, but the least you could do is to keep the faith and confidence that we'll qualify for the CL end of the season

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 23:40:10
Ok the deal for Kono has failed I hope fans don't get too upset. I'm not Ayer heads biggest fan but can't help but feel his hands are tied somewhat. I believe a fee was agreed just problems with the payment structure. Ayer can't be held responsible for this as it's not his money. The owners could of told him to just pay the fee upfront so then there's no complications. Does anyone think Chelsea are paying for Salah in instalments. The owners told us from the start they had a long term plan and thanks to BR we are ahead of schedule. FSG are ensuring the club remain on a sound financial footing and when we get CL back at Anfield I think they will then become more aggressive in the market to enure we remain at/near the top for the foreseeable. Let's put this window behind us and get behind the players we've got as we can achieve our goals this season with players returning and others hitting form at the right time we may just surprise ourselves and finish strongly. Now let's go to West Brom and ensure the squad know were behind them. That's what YNWA means. Sorry for the rant and this may be the beer talking but after smashing that lot across the park and Stevie G having his best game by far in that holding role I'm very optimistic the second half of the season will see us go from strength to strength. We are LFC bring it on.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think after a super spell, and most clubs have a purple patch, that it evident that the squad needs strengthening. We have failed.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 23:39:50
Hi eds soooooo if we fail top 4 this season who gets the bullet. Rodgers or Ayer. It was always going to b a tough window but with the wc prices are going to be higher and we need 3 players to be sure of getting top 4 consistently!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't think either will. Well, having said that, it depends how far off top 4 we finish.}

31 Jan 2014 23:38:55
Great site Eds. Very disapointed tonight. Considering we needed reinforcements and good players were out there (M'Villa, De Jong, Konoplyanka, Salah) do you think the club needs an overhaul in the MD department? We have been made to look very Amateur this window and if anything it has dampened spirits amongst the fans. First time poster, keep up the good work. YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - not in the MD department, just a change in how transfers are handled.}

31 Jan 2014 23:37:48
Ah well, goodbye Luis.

Justin bieber smashes a phone box window.

See, there are more important things than a stupid transfer window.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I wouldn't mind but I was in it at the time!}

Clark Kent's fuming

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 23:36:11
Not buying into all this rubbish about Ayre. Yes I agree his record isn't very good with the transfers but he's very good with the commercial deals. I don't think he will be sacked I agree with ED001 I think that all transfer dealings will be done by somebody else from now on. I reckon this deal didn't go through because of greedy agents, which I agree with our stance on this! don't forget how much money we threw away under the old ownership, it brought us to the brink! hasn't Kono got 3 agents? Its them I blame not Ayre!

Have faith guys and believe in our team and together we will prevail!

YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:35:36
If their owner didn't want to sell, we have nobody to blame. Here's to a great finish to the season!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why are we over there acting like arse lickers then. Obvious another poor transfer window.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 23:35:36
As frustrated with this window as everyone else. The frustration of not completing the deal is making all of us very angry. Still think we need to hear full story before asking for Ayres head! Not sure Kono's agents have done best by their client. The biggest frustration is that we are a massive club with a glorious past and a golden future, but right now we can't compete with the mercenaries and bank rolled plastics out there. Current players and managers need our support, only Manchester United strengthen in this window, so our realistic target at the beginning of January is still a realistic target now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:35:20
Another transfer window goes by and we fail to Kop our targets. It has been painstaking all day to see if the deal would get done but true to form sweet fa. We have had one good transfer window out of 4 since BR took charge. That is not enough when you're playing catch against your rivals. We must now hope we don't lose the SAS to injury before the end of the season otherwise our top 4 chances will go east, just like Ayer and co.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:35:15
My frustration with the last 2 windows is that we were told as fans our signings will be for starting 11 players. 2 windows and we have not achieved this. We are standing still which in footballing terms means we are going backwards.

We seem with our transfers to lurch from one embarrassment to another which damages the reputation of the club. To have your Cheif Exec to fly over and still fail does not sit well

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Have you looked at the league table recently

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 23:34:58
Liverpool fail to sign Konoplyanka

This is now becoming a very noticeable trend.

Our negotiators could not negotiate their way out of a revolving door.

This needs to be addressed. Surely

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Listen to the news. This was nothing to do with Ayre.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 23:34:18
Alot of questions to be asked. Edd001 if you have time' your input would be great'
Liverpool offerred in excess.if 16million, salah went for 11million, we wernt supposingly prepared to offer more.
Konoplanaka failing to materialise asks the question if the president was strongly against selling, why waste three days, negotiating and medical? Something is not adding up behind the scenes. Our first target went for less for what we offered for second target who wanted' to come. Money, ayre, amateurs negotiating? Looking at our last two windows, .Liverpool are humiliating themselves and clubs will not want to negotiate with us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it was not because of the fee alone. We were close enough on valuations for negotiations to be worth entering in for both sides. We got close enough to doing the deal to sort out the details with the player. The issue is all the surrounding details. When and how much the payments would be. The size of the up front payment. The number of agents that would be taking a cut and who would pay them. Then there is the greasing of palms for officials etc.}

Sounds like small details to miss out on a player

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 23:34:11
heard BR is sending full scouting party to assess the potential on a new bog cleaner. Ian Ayres is highly rated and seems to be gaining experience transfer window by transfer window. It is believed his talents could be purchased for about 50p but JH feels this fee is a little high and reiterates his stance on LFC will not be bullied into price wars. A spokesman for IA said that Ian was flattered at LFCs interest.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:33:36
Evening Ed's.

Thanks for all the good work tonight, must have been annoying with all the posts quoting tv over and over.

With Salah being our well known 1st choice target, and Konoplyanka our second, it was widely regarded we were willing to pay up to £16m in add ons etc, but only around 8-10m for Salah depending where you read. Is there a reason for this? Or was Salah considered a cheaper option for us for a similar player?

Thanks again for all the work.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - correct. He was seen as playing in a weaker league, being more of a player for the future than Konoplyanka. If you can get one pretty much as good for less, leaving more in the pot to get other targets in, you go for the cheaper option. If you are only aiming at one player, you go for the best within your budget.}

31 Jan 2014 23:34:32
will we ever know the truth behind failed signings?it is mainly rumours and paper talk. Felt we needed a little lift. let's back the club. If the deal stinked and we couldn't seal it, then respect to all involved. Bring on the baggies! YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah I agree . Who really knows what goes on at these meetings. I can only believe that ayre has Liverpools best interests at heart or at least the owners.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree
I have just spent 10 minutes trying to write how it is the president of the club simply refusing to sign the paperwork, not Ayre that has stopped this deal but frankly the doubters don't listen or care so I can't be bothered.
I guess I'll just support my team on Sunday and let the moaners find another reason to slag off the owners, manager and directors

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 23:33:21
Well, anticlimactic isn't the word!

I'm pretty gutted that the deal for Kono hasn't gone through, maybe we will hear why at some point.

Lets hope if we want him in the summer we're in quick to get it done as I can see there being a lot more competition then.

Missed a great opportunity tonight it seems.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:32:29
Guys it's been fun. I'm going to go enjoy what's left of this "date"
Well done to Ayre, he tried his best and today has been exciting too say the least. HOWEVER he has failed again, going for another target and not getting them. Of the top of my head that's now, Dempsey, sig, mk, willian, Costa, salah and now kono. A whole load of wasted time and effort. Time for him to move on from transfers ed?
Night

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I told you to just go enjoy your date, but you had to jinx any chance of the transfer happening by watching......
Yes I am trying to shift the blame for being a Jonah on to you ;o)

I accept no blame for this falling through, even if I did ask Ed001 if he felt it would happen! Only way out of this Ed is if we blame the committee. It was definitely the committee!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - by committee do you mean Benny Baller and his date? I am with you on that one!}

Benny your on a date with a POF and you couldn't stay off this site. Just proves the age old question what's more important to men sex or footy. I'd of advised you to go for doggy then you can do both. Bit of advice don't get caught, the wife hasn't let me back in the big bed since the last deadline. Tried to blag her I was filming it but she knew I was lying. Anyways good luck for the rest of your date. YNWA

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 23:32:18
Where is everybody on here that said we've got him

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Vinny O'Connor and James Pearce said fee agreed, medical done, personal terms done. Whatchu going to do?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 23:32:13
Ahoy there eds,
BR will be feeling strenghtened tonight.

Finishing 5th or 6th will not now be considered his fault.

Do you have any ideas as to where Suarez will go after the World Cup?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:50:00
chelsea I expect

Agree0 Disagree0

After net weekend we could well be second again. Why would not getting one (unproven) player in a position we don't really need mean we are suddenly a second rte team. Go to the games. Look at the football. Be a fan and not a complete .

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 23:30:13
Oh well, not meant to be once again.

I really hope we get another good result on Sunday as otherwise many will start blaming Ayer.

Seems strange that it fell apart so late, but hey that's Russia for you.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ukraine isn't Russia.

Agree0 Disagree0

No that's Ukraine, different country.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 23:29:33
If Ian Ayre cannot push through transfers then why is he still in a job? The man has failed so many times its maddening. I know the owner was being awkward but surely dealing with these sorts of issues is were Ayre earns his dosh? I think many people want him sacked and you cannot blame them.

Just curious eds but, at board room level, what is the opinion of the job Ayre has done? Is he respected? Considered a quality member of staff?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - yes he is. Look at the sponsorship deals he has helped to bring to the club.}

Perhaps that is where he is strong and should be his role at the club. Was he not the commercial director before?Business world and football transfers are two different animals.

Just does not seem to be as streetwise as other clubs negotiators.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I agree, it is a completely different mindset in his previous role. There is no rush, you can just negotiate the best deal and take as long as it takes. Transfers, on the other hand, need to be done quickly.}

That's true our sponsorship deals have been very impressive. Commercial negotiations and player negotiations are completely different beasts though. Maybe we need another individual to conduct our transfer negotiations as this January has been a mockery. Continued strengthening is the key to success, we have missed the boat big time - it would only take a couple more injuries to really derail our top 4 ambitions.

p.s. I am not blaming Ayre for the failure to sign a player - the club, at board room level, must take collective responsibility. We need a new signing, maybe two. This January could be pivotal (for the wrong reasons) to our final league position.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have you ever dealt with a Russian billionaire who doesn't want to give you something. My guess is that we actually did pretty well to get close to be honest?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 23:29:26
Some of our fans are very fickle how can you blame Ian Ayre without any facts or details??

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:29:04
ssn is a pantomime

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:28:41
Good old ian ayre never fails to #### it up does he? He couldn't negotiate my kids going to bed. What on earth is this bloke paid for?. For gods sake he's been over there for 3 days and still cocks it up.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:28:19
So that's it then, really disheartening that, let's wait for the reasons and or excuses trotted out by club, if it is we didn't value the player at what they valued the player at it will be a disgrace if under say £18 mill which looks reasonable for a player of his quality.
By the way son is a pantomime

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:28:02
Quite frustrating, the fact that this deal fell through. can't believe it after all that effort made! Thought it would have really helped us.
Hope this doesn't affect our chances for top for, or this failure being blamed if we don't make it.

A frustrating day!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ah well
Not for us.
Move on sterling and Ibe given there head.
U wanted the kids to be given there chance so be it.
Dodgy dealings aren't are way.,,
To be honest scoring goals isn't are issue anyway is it, money in the bank for the summer. Good results Saturday and 3 points Sunday . Happy days. Back off Ayre not his fault

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:25:18
Whoever, who bloody ever, was in charge of negotiating has let everyone down!
Why go for a player if you're not sure he wants to come? Why go all the way there, wasting money and time, to end up looking like fools!
First Salah, now Konowhat'sname. had medical, agreed terms but ended up belly up!

Couldn't get Veronin if they tried! Bunch of clowns, if you ask me?
If we can't afford the player or want to do deals different form anyone else this is what you end up with. sweet fanny adams! Having trouble understanding this! If the player had second thoughts why bother in the first place.

What a rest of the season we're going to have. Let's hope we don't get any more injuries.
And, sorry Luis, I know they promised you players. they tried, they failed. They're bloody rubbish!
It's all a masqurade, if there are dodgy gangster types involved, DON'T BLOODY GO FOR IT!
THERE MAY HAVE BEEN SEVERAL AGENTS INVOLVED, SO WHY EVEN BOTHER WITH THESE TYPES!
I'M SO DISAPPOINTED AND KNOW THAT IF WE FAIL TOP4 EVERYONE WILL POINT TO THIS MONTH AND AND THE DAMAGE WILL TAKE A GENERATION TO REPAIR. OUR RIVALS MUST BE LAUGHING THEIR ASSES OFF.
WHO EVER IS RESPONSIBLE MUST 'LEAVE' THE CLUB, FFS!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:25:05
Wtf! What a joke. What a total let down! Good night all. Gutted!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:24:01
I'm gutted! What were they doing for 3 days? I hate Liverpool being so cheap! We're always a laughing stock in the transfer market. Almost 50m spent in the summer and which of those players are going to start on Sunday? Nobody!
Something needs to be done! Aspas Alberto for 14m? Hernanez just got sold for 14m ffs.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I guarantee mignolet will start. Sakho could too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah but we'd be looking to pay £8m

Agree0 Disagree0

Gutted, disappointed, angry, looking for someone to blame for this fiasco

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:22:53
i wonder how much not signing konoplyanka has cost the club?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not a lot to be honest. It will help Sterling maintain his stint in the team. We all wanted him, but luckily our forwards are scoring enough for it not to be a problem.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 23:22:20
Ok time to get behind the team now. They will need more from us for the rest of the season.

Disappointed with the fiasco this window, especially going so far with the Kono deal. surely some indication of agreement between clubs would be reached before we sanction a party going on a trip to the Ukraine?

Anyway, let's move onwards. and hopefully upwards.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good point BobbyF

Bloody expensive jolly if we had no indication a deal could go through

Perhaps Spurs backed off earlier in the window as they had done their homework and knew the deal would be complicated to get through

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 23:22:07
Maybe I'm the only one who didn't realize this but apparently we have until 12:00 to complete the kono deal because it's a international deal. There you go.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:22:01
Looks like the amazing Ian Ayre strikes again! The only plus point is the team is playing so well as is, although a little thin on the ground.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:21:42
rubbish it's off over fee. Really annoying

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:21:36
Ben Smith said live on bbc that ''the deal is off.''

Gutter, well at least we tried. We've got 15 games left and we have the legs and the mental strength to keep the good times rolling.

Let's hope that FSG really support the team come the Summer

Believable1 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:21:21
Seriously, this is a shambles if this has not gone through, because if we are serious about keeping our top players and challenging for top four really we have to be decisive and cut throat in the windows. We say this every window but we do not seem to really grasp this simple concept.
This policy of really taking their time and treading on egg shells when doing deals is going to keep us mid table I fear.
I am not saying spend mad but when we have a target we should just GET IT DONE FOR GODS SAKE this is frustrating!
Not happy very disappointed and people at the club from owners all the way down should have a very good statement to explain to the fans with some very good explanations, and not the normal jargon!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:21:00
Transfer window closed and not only is Suarez still a Liverpool player, but there hasn't even been a rumour of him leaving. Whine all you want about not having new toys to play with, but we got our most important business done early.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:20:50
He hasn't signed. ssn are usualy correct. It is the as I speak. Oh well, we have a strong team anyway. Could happen in the summer though.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Doubt it, knowing LFC they'll go for someone cheaper.

Need to get rid of ayre

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:15:03
Konoplyanka deal off, Ian Ayre failed again he has missed out on 6-7 players in 2 transfer windows to either not getting deal done or to other clubs, EDs do you reckon we are going to get another MD?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no, more likely he will just hand over all responsibility for signings, if a change is made.}

ssn reporting that the deal is dead! Absolute joke if this true. We have had months to scout players and January to try and sign at least ONE player.
Woeful effort from whoever is in charge of transfer dealings at LFC. Just hope this doesn't end up costing us 4th place.

Sky reporting kono is staying put deal is off Ayre couldn't fix the deal lol I said earlier we wouldn't get anyone all a big smoke screen if we couldn't get Salah for 11million why would we pay 16 for second choice

Believable0 Unbelievable0

'Cos we left it too f'ing late to complete it and should have started at the beginning of January

If Utd overtake us ill be absolutely gutted.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 23:31:08
Just confirmed by Ben Smith, deal off for Konoplyanka. Un fu**in believable. What a transfer window eh. They're doing their best to ruin all the good work done by Rodgers with some amateurish dealings in the transfer market. We are becoming a laughing stock. Please don't blame it all on Ayre as he is only doing the owners bidding, even though he does appear to just be a yes man who is sadly, for us, out of his depth in these transfer dealings.

players won't get upset over signings for their positions
we are not leeds united
we are currently in a champions league position in the league
we beat THEM 4 - 0 only a few days ago

Eds, they did'nt forget to bring a translator with them to the Ukraine did they? Ian's going to come back paying 16 Mil for a Plank of wood. He did that a few seasons ago already, at Newcastle, blew 35 Mil. that time though.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - that is a very good point!}

I think Ian would have an easier time of attempting to understand the Ukraine language than the Geordies though.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that is an even better point. I remember my parents living up there and visiting them, I honestly thought the guy I was talking to was a foreigner and English was his second language. Turned out I was half right, English was his second language, Geordie was his first.}

I know what you mean Ed. My father is a geordie, I've known him 21 years and still now, I barely understand what the hell he's on about half the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Actually he is a cool guy. Whilst he speaks highly of your sister, he remains unsure whether or not you are capable of doing anything with your life. I have some other stories about your sister as well.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I have never ever known a more insanely topsy turvy day in my life? How many Liverpool fans are have been pressing refresh/F5 in unison all over the world since this morning! I went to run some errands for a while and I've never experienced a rollercoaster of emotion like it. I nearly crashed the car 5 times. He's signing he's not signing he's signing he's not signing. Has he friggin signed yet? I can only imagine what the boys in Ukraine must have gone through. And I can't believe i'm saying this but kudos Ian Ayre. I can't believe i'm giving Ayre plaudits for doing his job. that's how bad he is! Eds 001. Got any fingernails left buddy?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no fingernails or hair left mate. Pulled both out before 7pm!}

Haha, love both post and ed comment! YNWA

Agree0 Disagree0

Eds001 this is ridiculous mate. Surely the powers that be have to look at ending this farce of deadline day. This is no good for anybody apart from maybe players who make money. My nerves are a mess i'm frazzled. Can you imagine how Ian Ayre must be feeling?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I don't know, I am not on my 50th mug of coffee and the hallucinations are boss! I even thought I saw Senderos has signed for Valencia and is set to face Messi. Mind not as bad as some of my earlier hallucinations that Ngoo was called 'highly rated' and a 'starlet'. Even that doesn't compare to yesterday's one when I thought somebody said Ngog was a Premier League player!}

Your cracking me up here eds001. too funny. I was hallucinating yesterday that Ngog used to play for us. Now that was some good stuff no wait up realisation has just kicked in. he did play for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - the time to worry is when you read something Ed007 writes and it makes sense.}

My favourite was the headlines when N'gog signed for Swansea: "Swans land former Liverpool star N'gog".

Clearly they never saw him play.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am fearful for Laudrup, he has signed one of the few players that make Ngog look good, Emnes.}

31 Jan 2014 21:56:07
Going down the page and I haven't seen the name Konoplyanka being said in a while. I've seen Kono and The Ukrainian but still no Konoplyanka. So when are Kono and The Ukrainian signing?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 21:54:29
Eds would konoplyanka be allowed to have a medical if an agreement wasn't going to be reached?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it has been known. I can remember deals being announced officially by the buying clubs, only for the selling club to pull the plug and leave them redfaced.}

31 Jan 2014 21:50:53
Never mind the kono saga, its nearly 10pm. The question we all have on here is 'how is Benny Ballers date working out?'
Any updates Eds?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - obviously not that well, as he is back at home watching the deadline day mayhem!}

Now eds let's not jump to conclusions his date night if wanted to watch deadline day too, he could if hit the jackpot

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - she can't be the jackpot, she supports Man City! That is defo the booby prize, and she better have great boobys to make up for supporting them.}

But is he watching the the deadline day mayhem alone? Or is he cuddled on the sofa with a cute doe eyed new recruit to the LFC family?.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - she supports Man City mate, so he has a lot of work ahead to teach her the error of her ways.}

She is sat with me watching ssn, poking me and asking when I'm going to give her attention. Flicking between BBC and here on my phone. She just asked who's Benny baller. Awkward.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I would suggest this is the time for lies. Tell her Benny Baller is extremely cool and witty, things along those lines.....}

Ed I bet I'm better at convincing her to join lfc, than Ian Ayre would be!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I wouldn't be so sure, he has a Harley and you know women love something big and throbbing between their legs.}

If you do get your own radio or TV slot, I am a good PA, and make a wicked cheese on toast ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 21:11:01
Ed02, if you are about, what exactly happens during this negotiating? I mean, Ian Ayre, for example is in Ukraine, talking to Dnipro. What exactly do they talk? I mean, in between, there will be breaks during which the owner could be consulted of LFC's offer, then what would Ayre do while he is awaiting a reply? Does he take his Harley for a spin? What if the response is slow, does Ayre get up and shout for answers?

Just trying to picture this negotiating.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The issues will be the price and the structure of payments. There may be some bonus issues but I have never known those to be an issue.}

Deadline Day may be great to follow but spare a thought for FIFA's Transfer Matching System. There have been so many signings around Europe that FIFA's system for registrations has been unable to cope with the demand. No transfer can through without this TMS system. Tonight FIFA has confirmed it's moving more slowly than normal, but FIFA has told us they hope to clear the backload. Any deals held up will be given the green light.

Hey ed001 looking at your recent posts it looks like you really want this deal to go through. Is it because he's the real deal or because we all want a lift or just to keep the moaners off your back.
Personally I think we've missed the boat with Salah and we are going for second best, but if this transfer goes through and it's not detrimental to are future transfer dealings, then bring it on.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - because I think it would give the club a huge lift. The way the transfer has been built up, it could give us the buzz similar to the one Arsenal got from signing Ozil.}

I agree. It would definitely lift the fans, show an intent and prove that FSG can see that this is a great opportunity to put us back up with the best where we belong. Just hope he's not another Asprilla. Remember what happened to Newcastle.

Anyone that has done business in Russia or the Ukraine will know just how difficult it is over there. Everyone wants a cut of any monies paid. Full marks to the Liverpool contingent for sticking with it and pulling this deal off. It really is hard dealing with anyone over there. Ian Ayre has come in for a lot of stick recently but credit should be given to him. The amount of work that has gone into these negotiations would of been massive. Thank god it's over now. Look forward to 3 points this weekend and a big push for top 4 minimum.

Konoplyanka, 24, has been the Reds' one and only target on deadline day.

Anfield chiefs have been busy trying to thrash out a deal before 11pm and TV station Russia-24 claim the move has been completed.

The reports suggest he will earn £58,000 a week at Liverpool. However, Starsport sources are still to confirm the news.

The deal hinges on Dnipro's billionaire owner agreeing the switch.

That has been the main sticking point of a possible transfer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 21:00:49
Fair enough its a fairly well respected source in Russia that has reported the apparent"done deal" but why do they have the news before any Ukrainian sources? Surely they would be closer to the player? If we sign him then great, if we don't we have Sterling who's improving with every game

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it is about the payments, but not just the fee. Agent's fees and who pays for them are a major issue.}

Seems a bit odd that a positive communication between LFC, club and player must have taken place prior to us to sending a contingent all the way to Ukraine. Surely if the player is all set to make the move the club would not mess about with the deal to the extent they don't complete as this just messes with the players head and quite possibly effects his performance if he stays at the club. Is this really Liverpool? Dilly dallying instead of delivering what the manager need? Really, is this us now?
Seem every deal we are involved in takes longer than other clubs? Are other clubs; Arsenal, Tottenham etc daft for closing deals so quickly?
And where's the DM we desperately need? I can imagine Stevie G making that position his. Class players don't take long to learn new positions but what about the cover? Is Kono enough back up to carry us to CL? With FA cup matches to come too?

There may be last minute signings but I doubt it because it's hard to believe we, Liverpool, would ever sign a player quickly!

We didn't sign Kono or Salah unfortunately, but just like last year when we "missed out" on players, we signed 2 gems in the following window. Maybe its a blessing in disguise! let's just push on with the players we have, and who knows, we may just get top 4. As long as we all give 110% support to the players our commitment may get us over the line. Then maybe, in the summer, we will have some world class signings to brag about. Life goes on!

Hi Eds

Firstly great work today especially when it seems every question is about Konoyaplanka.
Just a quick question, is Ian Ayre the only one dealing with transfers?, just wondering that while he's in Ukraine if something come up over here or in Europe could it still be done?, just seen that Arsenal had a loan bid for Soloman Kalou turned down as his club wanted permanent deal. Allegedly his buy out is low, I think he would be a very useful player for the price quoted, scores goals from wide & far better option than Moses. Plus if we were to make a late bid or loan move for De Jong or Rodwell is there time to get these deals through, more so De Jong with him being in Europe?
Thanks in Advance Eds, not long left :-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - we do have other people capable of completing a deal, Fallows for instance.}

31 Jan 2014 19:39:54
I would just like to say a big thankyou to Luis saurez for his services to lfc . il get them in now because I won't get a chance when he goes. In saying this because personally I think the club is a disgrace. We aspire to be the best we can but in the transfers windows we just show people we can't compete . Transfers policy's are ok but when you haggle over a player ie salah, kono common sense should prevail and you should bite the bullet and pay it,, if you pay the extra and make the champion league because of maybe something that player did then its genius. and shirt sales would even get the money back . let's face it lfc are only a average team in transfers windows

Chris, 100% with you. It's no coincidence.

Hi Ed01. Getting to that time of the evening where anticipation and excitement is threatening to turn into mild disappointment for the fans. Question for you though, after Tuesdays performance, with all our defensive injuries, do you think it's a big deal if we don't get anyone tonight? I understand the frustration that's aimed at the recruitment team, and I don't know what goes on with Ian Ayre and the rest of them, but I can only trust that they're trying their best for the club. Appreciate your take on it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - naw, it is not a big deal, just a disappointment because a signing gives the whole place a lift.}

Keep up the good work though!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 20:09:42
Nah, I jinxed it 'cause I'm following in Canada (took the day off). Every time I do this we have terrible TDD's. Sorry all. Canada is sorry. (It *is* what we do best.)

On another note, all this complaining is a bit silly since it was just a year ago we brought in Sturridge and Coutinho - who were signed early and are brilliant. So we really can't say we're awful at this transfer business.

Now, chasing unrealistic targets. that may be a bit of a poor decision. FSG will figure it out, I'm sure. They've slowly improved everything about the club. Look where we were when they started. Now they have a manager continually improving the team, are working diligently in the back room to improve the staff there, and are working on decking out the new Anfield.

Seems like a succession of positive moves to me.

So here we go again, strangely wait until 2/3 days before window closes to get in depth negotiations going (why not straight after salah deal fell through?) then offer less than required or so everyone is saying then miss out as it looks at the moment anyway. Reading and watching different sources and it seems we have offered £12 mill ( in instalments) they want £16 mill lump, well if correct I think that's a load of b*llocks on our part, I'm no hedge fund manager or Wall street wizz kid but surely this guy would have given us say a 50% better chance of Champions league next season and therefore 50% better chance to earn another £30/£40 mill, FSG come on ffs.
As for people defending Ayre and saying let him do his job, I wish he f****n would.
I for one won't blame Suarez if he's off next available opportunity, we will not be able to attract another player like him in a million years the way we are set up at the moment. Thanks Luis is was great while it lasted, pure pleasure to watch.

At least we tried.

Apparently according to radio fee agreed just they want the money up front and we are pushing for instalments. Would love the player rate him but unfortunately he appears not to want to put in a transfer request and they hold all the cards. But if it helps I promise to buy a home kit with his full name on the back, should cover least half his transfer fee! But seriously would like the player (personally like him when I've seen him) think he'd improve the team and depth, but if we did sign a cm instead would be happy. Only reason I would be gutted if don't sign anyone is we have been heavily linked with two players I like and also everyone loves the player driving into melwood in a blacked out car and all that!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 19:01:31
Everyone is blaming Ayre and FSG for the Kono deal not happening. I personally blame Ed001, at some stage today he must of thought we signed Kono and jinxed it! Haha only kidding Ed, love you guys!
Cheers,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I am beginning to wonder if I did jinx it myself!}

31 Jan 2014 19:01:08
I reckon that's it then peeps, I'm on here every minute hoping for a positive update or a glimmer of hope that we will get him and I can't see it now. So so frustrated again. We've got to real fight to finish in top 4 with our squad depth.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Radio saying that we can only pay for the player over a period of time where they want cash upfront.

You would have thought all this would have been partially agreed before we spoke to the player.

Can't blame Ayre if we simply don't have the money.

We've got less money now, its not cheap to fly to Ukraine you know.

I feel that we will sign Konoplyanka before the deadline passes as I believe that Ian Ayre will get us our man. I would like to see Rodwell join us but with his blue connections I doubt that is feasible.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think you will get your man eventually, I don't think Liverpool can afford to come away empty handed. It's Liverpool's best chance of a UCL spot in years due to other clubs being in transition. Arsenal should have paid what Schalke wanted for Draxler too, they will not get a better chance to win the league this season.

As I said last night, this one will go all the way. I really think we'll sign him, probably minutes before the deadline. if there's one time we should ever pay 'over the odds' is this. Kono is a ready made prem player from what iv seen of him (which is plenty in the Europa and a little in the league) fast, very skilful and rarely loses the ball, has a good shot and just very difficult to play against. Think this lad would really make the difference for us. Come on Ayre and find those pennies from somewhere!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 18:38:41
A mate of mine was working at Melwood today (no it's not one of those dodgy stories. ). Anyway, he says he was watching the players training and he reckons Texeira (sp?)looks the business. Was proper raving about him. I haven't seen the lad play myself - what's your views Ed? I know he is only young and maybe not quite ready yet but is he one to get excited about for the future?

Sorry to distract you from the nitty gritty of the transfer window.

Hi Eds,

I think our window has slipped past now, I think the mistakes were not necessarily today but earlier in the window, spending too long going after a player we weren't going to get. Moving on from that would've given us the time to get the Kono deal done, and maybe another 1 or 2.

However, after the Clint Dempsey debacle (how lucky were we to miss out there?) FSG decided that they needed to release a statement about why the deal wasn't done. Do you think they will be compelled to do the same if we don't sign anyone this window? OR have they said all they need to say?

Cheers! Not long till you can have a G&T now!

YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I will let Ed002 have my G&T, as I don't drink. I am sure the club will release some kind of statement, they are very much keen on keeping fans onside.}

31 Jan 2014 17:47:27
Well, I have never criticized anybody in Liverpool for lack of transfers or failing to sign a player. I know the process is complicated. But I must say that out transfer committee is definitely not the best in the PL. Ed001, who do you think is responsible for the way we handle our transfers?
Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - the whole transfer committee are responsible. Like I said in a previous post about this, we seem to be targeting players that are not really viable targets. Salah wasn't keen on us, now we are going for one that the club are not wanting to sell. If you are going to go for these kind of players, then you have to be prepared to overpay. If you don't want to overpay, then you have to target players keen on a move to us and that the club are willing to sell.}

So is there any chance that the committee will be changed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I hope so, FSG have certainly made changes after looking at previous windows.}

31 Jan 2014 17:58:55
Rumour now is that a deal will be struck if we'll pay the full fee up front, plus whatever ludicrous fees the agents want on top.

We appear to want to pay in stages, as is normal for transfer deals.

Given there's five hours to go until the window shuts I am not sure we're in much position to negotiate payment terms.

My guess is that the deal will go through, but for more than we wanted to pay - and definitely for more than our first target, Saleh would have cost.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know, just give the committee loads of money to blow on crap like the other clubs and forget about the genuine signings we have made who have contributed and actually wanted to join and play for our club.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 17:37:46

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 17:36:17
chaps, at the time I write this it hasn't been posted so forgive me if it's been mentioned already.

but apparently the deal is falling apart due to the club's (billionaire) chairman holding out for a higher fee than initially agreed.

as I understand it, we've agree terms, length of contract. player and family are keen on making it happen. we've met the buy out clause the club set only for at the 11th hour the club's chairman to ask for a higher fee as he is derperate to keep the player.

big IF, but if this is true, even I as a fierce ian ayre critic can't really begrudge him walking away. the chairman sounds a right stroppy &^*&^*.

fingers x'd still though.

The Merseysiders have scored in their last 13 games, netting a total of 40 in that spell.
Steven Gerrard has scored in his last three league games, his best scoring run since four in a row in December 2012.
Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge have played a combined 33 Premier League games this season and scored 36 goals.

They're letting Rodgers down. The committee or the owners (whoever it is) are taking him for an absolute fool.
I had a little debate on here the other day about BR being punished in the transfer market because of Kenny's signings. This Ian Ayre guy, he might be good at getting Donut sponsorships and Warrior Kits,, but in terms of getting identified players that BR wants through the door, he is useless

Believable0 Unbelievable0

How on earth is Rodgers being punished? You make it sound as though he has never bought anybody?

Nacer Chadli? Seriously? Let's hope that ones not true, especially when you consider he can hardly even get into the Spurs team.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just as coutinho couldn't get in the inter team,

Difference is the Coutinho is a good player. When Chadli has played he has been awful, did you not see the game when we gave them a shallacking?

Long time since posted eds but on the edge of my seat all day from 6 this morning and tv just reported kono deal into the balance and we r looking at other targets and we r looking at nacer chadly. Hope not because I think that's panic buying

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed, sky just reported we have swapped targets and now looking at Chadli from Spurs, it's just been on the radio too mate.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

i don't mind if we sign konoplyanka or not, I personally rather have yarmolenko, and to be honest we don't really need him our squad is strong enough. plus I'm hearing we want chadli from tottenham, its ridiculous. we can get so much better

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 16:54:15
PLUS if it's true about their owner saying he won't sell, then why would he not warn us he won't be sold before Ayre flew over? If it's true, and he has just said he's not for sale, then he's a complete b*llend. Making Ayre fly all the way to Ukraine, making him believe a deal could be done, then saying he's not for sale, and wasting our time in doing so? If it is true (which I don't think, deal may have just stalled), then that owner of theirs has cost us time, money and the possibility of signing anyone in this window. Let's hope its all just rumours, otherwise we have a real struggle on our hands if we are to sign anyone before tonight.
Cheers,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - we always knew they didn't want to sell, so the comments are nothing new.}

Eds do u still see a deal for Konop being sorted then or with what's been said that they don't want to sell making it a no go?!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I have never been all that hopeful mate. Still, the fact we are still going at it suggests there is a chance.}

31 Jan 2014 17:00:38
ssn just broke that the Konoyaplanka deal is in the balance & Liverpool are switching to other targets including Spurs Nacer Chadli on loan.

Is it possible that Jack Robinson is going to Swansea? Laudrup has said he won't sell Taylor to Fulham until he has a replacement no.2 LB. Robinson would fit that brilliantly and push Ben Davies for his starting spot in the near future?
Personally i'd rather keep Jack, he's a very good young english talent who I see in the England squad, along with Shaw, in the next few years if he gets the game time.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Also no idea what to reply to this either. Judging by recent posts we have some really dumb fans.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed quigz, no one on here has the ins and outs of the transfer dealings, but are happy to whinge, if we get konop then fine, but I only want players who are keen to come to us, not ones who need to be begged, people need to realise we simply haven't got the financial clout of city or Chelsea and cannot judge our transfer dealings against theirs.having said all that I do thing Ian Ayre is not then right man for the transfer dealings, commercial yes, transfers no

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 16:28:08

31 Jan 2014 16:24:22
Oh dear people get a grip, No-one is quoting anything reliable on twitter, Rodgers says nothing has changed as of yet, The commitee can't comment as their in the Ukraine trying to do a deal, Why in the name of anyone would they stop to leak out info for the daily rags or goal dot com forward slash know nothing.
Give it a chance, If we don't get him that's just how it is sometimes, we move on, we get top four, we get a better standing for big players wanting to come, easy. lol

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You get a grip. How do think we get top four without signings in this window the squad is thread bear, we need reinforcements . We will not get top four with this current squad . Then Suarez leaves in the summer and we are in even bigger trouble. Now is the time to push on and show our intent cause were not that far away.

Agree0 Disagree0

No we're not, we're in the top four already, everyones going daft over a player most have never seen kick a ball in anger, I do agree one or two would have been nice but if not then we move on, its called support mate.
And for everyone including yourself saying without re-inforcements we won't get top four, i'm glad your crystal balls are all working overtime and you can see into the future, I personally think we'll get top four anyway and i'm not worried, especially as our massive goal difference is like an extra point, people need to chill
YNWA

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm very chilled about the situation I'm just not as sure about top 4 as you are . Villa should have been 4 up at half time the other week. When Lucas is out the back four get no help at all, not to bothered about the Ukrainian coming or going, I just think a good combative central midfielder is needed along with a left back. Attacking wise I feel were top notch .

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed on the DM and poss a fullback but i'm not worried if we move forward with Flanno and Kelly, If Stevie plays like he did against Everton then i'm confident we'll be ok till summer, just seen a report saying we might be in for Chadli. now that I wouldn't be fussed with.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with guv. We are a very good side and the squad is nowhere near as threadbare as you seem to think coniere, maybe you could consider getting a grip.

people constantly moan at the club for not paying that "extra few" million on players, how we desperately need a player or two to push on for champions league, and our cost cutting on transfers is mocked daily by posters. Now a few sources saying kono will be on 95k, and its suddenly now " a huge gamble "
FSG just can't bloody win! fickle fickle posters on here. I feel so bad for fsg.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah I really feel sorry for FSG, multimillionaires: MY HEART BLEEDS. Bottom line is we need to add to the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

It must be so hard being multi-millionaire figureheads of two of the biggest sporting institutions in the world. although it is slightly annoying what you mentioned about the fickle nature of keyboard people.

Agree0 Disagree0

FSG didn't get to were they are today buy throwing money at ever problem theve paid a lot of debt an don't forget the money kenny spent plus all the wages they've paid off to fringe players that have left the club in the last couple of years.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 14:48:56
We desperately need a defensive midfielder. Gerrard was immense against Everton but those performances are not the norm for him in that position anymore. It would not take a great deal to enable us to beat the top teams on a regular basis. De Jong would be perfect.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Gerrard did play very well, but there was still a lot of space better players would have exploited.

For a 15 min spell in the 2nd half, we let Leon Osman look like David Silva. I have a feeling we will get punished in that area if we continue with the Gerrard, Henderson pairing - which we're probably going to, as we don't have a player for that role (other than Allen)

There were a lot of "blocks" in and around that DM area against Everton, ideally you want the stop the supply before it get's to the last ditch blocking stage.

Not a dig at Stevie but just a reality check about that position.

For what its worth i'm confident in what we have already for top four but just having to see/hear all the transfer nonsense we seem to go through sends me crackers lol!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I imagine if it was, an advert wouldn't be long enough, it would have to be a 6 part mini drama, probably resulting in him loaning a tub of flora from his mate and jar of branston pickle that was 25p cheaper than the HP sauce. Then he'd drop it on the floor.

Still believe Fernando is still an option, as he isn't in the Portuguese national team and will surely want to get into it for the World Cup, this is why I don't think he will go to Man City and fight for places with Yaya, Fernandinho, Garcia and Rodwell, they usually only play 2 central midfielders too.
I think he will move on from Porto today and I hope it is to Liverpool.
The Porto manager has also said Fernando is an important player, but not irreplaceable. Seemingly willing to let him go.
Fingers crossed.

Not sure many on here would agree with me on this but I would rather we get a CDM like de jong (loan or permanent) in over Kono if money is an issue. 16 million plus signing on fee and 95000 pounds a week wages just seems to smack of desperation imo.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree on the CDM issue, but I guess the club see Konoplyanka as attainable now. This could probably mean we won't sign a winger in the summer and most definitely means Moses's loan won't be made permanent.

I don't know where you are getting that wage from, but most sources are saying it's closer to 60K.

Agree0 Disagree0

A couple of sites are reporting it to be 95000 pounds a week which imo is a huge gamble.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Victor Moses signs a permanently I think it would be safe to assume he has compromising pics of JWH, Tom Warner, Ian Ayre and Brenda! Biggest waste of money, time and space ever (my apologies Victor your second behind my ex girlfriend)

Agree0 Disagree0

I doubt we would offer that much, even if he is a very good player. Remember, the likes of Sakho, Sturridge, Coutinho are all well below that mark.

The only players close to that level are Agger and Johnson I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

Moses will go back to jose and they will sell him to a team like fulham or palace, grand as back up for a year but no more for me

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 13:57:20
No matter what today brings us, and hopefully it will be good, the owners deserve a bit more respect from us fans. They are trying to bring good players in, balancing the books with extra income from sponsors and working on the ground improvements. It all takes time to do it right unless you are a super rich Arab or on oligarch. They are doing it without a lot of fuss, unlike other owners. We must trust them a little bit more, they are earning it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 13:57:11
Why all this melodrama from fellow fans?

If we get a player or not, so what? We have a squad and reserves/academy already.

The club shouldn't be held to ransom by any player, agent or club.

So if we walk away from a deal, or a player rejects us, or wants too much money and a guaranteed starting place, then I wouldn't want him at the club anyway.

Bottom line is winning the next game, so forget about wasting time wondering who we will or won't sign.

Eds and all my fellow redmen. My apologies If I post on here copiously today I've taken the day off (phoned in sick to be honest) especially to follow the Transfer deadline day. I've lost $200 in wages and have been up since 4.30am (east coast time) to take in all the drama and i'm on my 4th cup of coffee. But if we sign Dave the Ukranian (cant spell his name) De Long and a left back I will feel its all worth it. To be honest even if we sign Dave and De Jong I'd be ecstatic. Buckle up ladies and gents and let's ed's 001 take you on a ride!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I would be happy with any signing. I dread the thought of this site if no one signs!}

Bloody journos Ed
Just making things up - this morning I heard konyoplanka was in La Manga on a training camp and now apparently the deal will take place in his home country
12.30 in the car a radio station were claiming that all but complete but on tv they said it was still 50:50
Easiest job in the world - make things up and get it out there

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - you only have to look at Balague, a few days ago Tello was going to move, now he says he is staying put. Does nothing but cause us problems when we point out they are making up stuff to stir up hits!}

31 Jan 2014 13:29:35
While we're waiting for transfers to do through, thought I would ask you all a question:

who would you prefer to manage us in the future, Gerrard or Carragher?

all replies appreciated, including the eds

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - has to be Carra, I would have more chance of getting info off him and his family!}

Carra has pretty much ruled himself out of management hasn't he. Said on TV he saw the stress it put on houllier and benitez and wants nothing to do with it.

I do hope Mr. Ayre is able to sign this KonoPaulAnka fellow. Not only will he give the team EVEN MORE terrifying speed, but his lounge version of Smells Like Teen Spirit will be a big hit in the Liverpool karaoke pubs.

Ed001 you are a one man wolf pack today you sound like a mix of Jim White and Chris Kamara I can actually hear excitement in your post keep up the good work #LFCdeadlinedayhero

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't want to get excited, it only tends to lead to disappointment.}

You don’t want to buy my god you are haha also if there are issues around the deal and kono offered a pat cut any chance he would hand in a transfer request to move things on or are we past that

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I don't believe that will be necessary.}

31 Jan 2014 12:54:31
is Konoplyanka the only player where looking to bring in this window or is there any chance of any loan deals coming in cdm or left back?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Gringo, Eds has said we're possibly looking at 2 or 3 ins but Konoplyanka is priority

Agree0 Disagree0

Andrea Dossena for $44 million transfer fee, 10 year contract on $15 million a year and a clause in his contract saying he can party in Ibiza all of September and October for the closing parties. Personally I think $44 is a bit high and Ian Ayre should be sacked for making this deal. Many a true word. lol

Hi Eds,

Thanks for the great work you are doing. What do you realistically feel will happen with Konoplyanka?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I am not going to say anything other than I expect it to fall through so I don't jinx it!}

I'm exactly the same as you. presume the worst and if it doesn't happen you haven't built your hopes up and if it does its pleasant surprise.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is more that I tend to jinx things when I get excited. When I don't allow myself to believe, they go through. Not always a good thing, such as when Cole had a choice between us and Spurs, they were offering more but he chose us, unfortunately.}

Thanks Ed001. Fully understood. Any chance of anyone else apart from him? de jong etc?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I wouldn't expect anyone else, but it is not out of the question. It is more likely that the other deals will end up being left until the summer.}

So one minute eds 001 am I reading correctly your taking the blame for Joe Cole coming to Liverpool. Purslow and Woy will be relieved men

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no!! I would have to put the blame on Gerrard and Carragher, as they talked him into joining us. I think they can be let off for that mistake though, they have done a couple of things for the club after all!}

To be fair ed's 001 we all thought Joe Cole was going to be a libero type signing and would kick us on. Hindsights a beautiful thing.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - actually I was never keen on him. I have never rated him at all, not at any point in his career. Even as a kid I thought he was too thick to be a top player. I used to take so much stick over it. I was really hoping he would ram my words back down my throat when he signed for us though.}

When Joe cole joined when I got home my dad was waiting for me in the hall & we jumped around the room together went straight off to get his number 11 shirt which then the next day was swapped to 10 gutted

No chance I'm going to do well on a physics test today. The suspense with transfer deadline day is rough! Ed001 any chance you can help with physics so I can focus on this stuff?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - depends on what kind of grade you would be happy with? I could take the test if you don't mind failing.}

Ahaha that is so good.

Agree0 Disagree0

Looks like that's a likely outcome anyways. In Ed001 I trust.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - you never know mate, the human mind is a funny thing, it can dredge up things you never knew that you knew when you let it.}

Really hope we go through with this Kono deal. Just because I want the mood of this site at the moment to persist throughout the day; My mood will no doubt need perking up after this test! Unless you're secretly a physics expert.

Eds sorry if I'm interrupting your lunch but in regards to kono being on 100k you said he is willing to take a pay cut for a move to us but what sort of cut are we talking bout surely anything below 80k would be to much of a cut what are your thoughts on the situation also seeing a lot of reports of him boarding a planet to the UK probably not true any thoughts thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he is not on a plane and he will fit in with our wage structure.}

Ok thanks a lot mate I no we have made a bid for kono but has it been accepted so many different reports don't no what's true and what's false could you possibly clear it up

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is now about sorting out minor details mate, though those can often be the hardest bit. Such as payment dates, what amount is paid when, how much up front etc.}

Ok so patience is key so hard though when there's not long left nervous times

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 12:19:08
David maddock from the Mirrow saying our chances on Konop only 50-50 Ed. Do you have any trust in this guy what so ever? Surely chances are greater than that?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no trust in anyone from the Mirror, it is a comic.}

31 Jan 2014 12:14:29
Good morning my fellow redmen. I think todays is the day that FSG will come of age and we will be praising them instead of chastising them. Ed's001 this is your daily mood check how ya feeling buddy? Long day ahead I hope you've had three shredded wheat! I know you don't want to jink deals for players eds 001but can you tell us how many players we are genuinely trying for? Much appreciated and everyone kick back relax and let the drama unravel

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I haven't had a chance to grab brekkie yet! We are genuinely trying to get 2 in, it may be that there is attempts on a 3rd, if we can seal those quickly enough.}

Thanks eds001. So am I safe to assume were trying for Kono, De Jong and can you reveal the third guys name or not?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure who the 3rd one is, just that it is a case of 3 positions to fill but the priority is Kono, everything else waits on that.}

LW, DM are the two positions everyone knows about, but what do you think would be the third if it does come to that?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - left back. I don't expect that to happen, nor a DM for that matter. I think it is all about Konoplyanka now.}

So three deals hinge on one player. flipping heck I thought my life was complicated. If where in for a left back this must mean that Flannos playing right back for rest of the season and that Enrique is out for longer than expected. Doesn't look good for Cissokho's future. Kelly back up for right back.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Cissokho was only ever intended to be a back up.}

Left back? Do we have any in mind if it gets to that stage Ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am told we do, but I haven't been given any names. I would assume that is because they would be targeted in the summer.}

31 Jan 2014 12:52:01
Cissoko gets my back up - rubbish!

Agree0 Disagree0

Cissokho is actually Djimi Traoré in disguise, decent athletically shocking on the ball.

Jesus getting bad feelings about konoplyanka spurs have shipped holtby out on loan and talk is there upping the chase for kono Please not again!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Kono is supposedly on the plane (which would be from spain).

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 12:09:47
i am life long lfc fan, and often I do not understand the way the club tries to strengthen the squad.
we should have brought in a left defender, cissokho is giving me heart attacks when he is on the ball or the ball is near him.
buying a winger is a good idea but the need for a left defender is more urgent in my eyes.
malta

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree! We seem to be able to bang in goals on a whim. let's reinforce the weakest spot right now which is clearly left back. Even Shaw wouldn't be much more expensive than what is being spent on Kono. Cissoko has a great attitude but he is poor to put it nicely.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 11:52:32
Hi eds, couple of questions for you.
In regards to the transfer window, what is it exactly that has to be completed before the deadline? Is it a fee and a contract that needs to be agreed? Also, has Liverpool agreed a fee with Dnipro and a contract with Konoplyanka yet?
Thanks very much

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it is all about the paperwork mate, that has to be received by the FA by 11pm.}

Can a medical be performed after the deadline Ed, if the paperwork has been approved before?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yes, they often are completed after.}

31 Jan 2014 11:38:27

Danny!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - £80m+ as he scored and created goals. Goalscorers are the most expensive.}

I wrote yesterday saying I had a good feeling we would get Kono and its looking likely I think more so now!

Stupid to say I know but if we do get him and he is given maybe the rest of this season to really get to grips with the speed of the premiership I think he will prove to be one of our best players for a long time!

Is it just me or doesn't he even look and play like a LFC player? His attitude and commitment and great, not to mention pace, touch, vision and footballing intelligence. He is not selfish but equally will take some chances too.

I think he will make a fairly immediate impact actually but if we do get him I am sure next season and onwards he is going to better and better.

I can already see LFC receiving high bids for him in a year or 2

GOOD LUCK AND FINGERS CROSSED

31 Jan 2014 11:15:32
Hey Eds,
Just wondering if there will be more than one deal completed today (first team signings) or are we in talks with a number of players? Can't see that myself but would be happy one decent addition to the first team for a big push towards champions league next season!

YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - possible that there will be more than one, we are trying to get a couple over the line.}

31 Jan 2014 11:15:14
Why are people excited about the M'vila Rumours? I've seen him play, and to be honest, he looks quite average in an average league. Also he has a poor attitude, that's why he ended up in Rubin kazan.
But I will wish him all my best and support him if he joins, and I hope I'll have to eat my words.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The lads 23 and got bags of potential he may have an attitude problem or he is just not enjoying the league he's found himself in. It wasn't two year ago that nearly every big team across Europe were scouting him my personal opinion of him is he's a great prospect and can do really well over hear

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he went to Rubin because of off field issues. Google it, they are there, along with a court record, to show what kind of a tit the lad is.}

Fair play ed I never tend to get into players life's to be honest mate so I don't know what kind of rap sheet he's got or any of his antics off the field but ill take your word for it bud thanks for the heads up

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is a shame because he was highly regarded as a kid.}

It does prove that football is more than just talent and ability. I have seen players with less talent aand less ability achieve many things through hard work, commitment, and being professional.

so many players with such immense talent and ability wasted due to not having the right attitude etc. its so much worse than having to retire due to injuries. atleast injuries are unpredictable and u can't really control it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - very true.}

31 Jan 2014 11:10:37

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 11:08:14
Hi all, If this deal for Konoplyanka goes through? Is there any reassurance you can give me, that this Ukrainian lad will not be an expensive flop like Andriy Voronin or Andriy Shevchenko? Is he realy worth the money? I've not seen enough of him to make my mind up?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No way he will flop! He is a far better player IMO than voronin and has more pace than Shevchenko which always helps in the premiership

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 11:25:52

The same assurances I can give you when Suarez joined from Ajax. The player before Suarez to join from Ajax was Babel, and in some capacity, he promised a lot and didn't deliver.

To be honest, I am not entirely sure about the Kirovohrad Messi, but he is young enough to adjust and improve if he finds it difficult in the beginning.

Who do you think is better, Mata or Silva?
Mata for me

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Silva for me.}

Very tough call. Silva right now but that's only because he's been in better form (and playing) this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Silva by miles

Agree0 Disagree0

Silva for sure, better player for sure, I think united over payed for mata but only time will tell.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tough call, but I would choose Silva over Mata.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 13:04:01

Silva is much more dynamic than Mata and offers much more creativity for his teammates to exploit. He also times his runs better and has better vision.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - yes, but they have yet to figure out how to switch it on.....}

31 Jan 2014 11:12:56
Yes but no ink

Agree0 Disagree0

You mean they've figured out how to plug it in? Maybe the FA know what they are doing after all.

Its going to be a long day Ed's so good luck and try not to let them get you down.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that could well be the issue with switching it on mate, I will pass that on to them, and remind them to switch the socket on too.}

Well I hope we get some sort of advisers fee for our fantastic input ;)

Why teams wait until the last hours to push deals through is beyond me, I appreciate it minimizes the risk of being out bid by a rival but its so much stress.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is normally that the selling club is only willing to let those players go when they absolutely have to.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

But sometimes it can be a fantastic fun day, with all the editors on our widget passing on info and taking the mick out of each other. Though our Leeds editor is currently sat in the corner with his arms round his knees crying, bless him.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - good point, except that I would have the ability to break the jinx if I was in charge. Of course I would keep the site, I would use it to confirm the signings first!}

Would you be influenced by our opinions on players? I.e. mainly youtube and what we've read elsewhere :)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - god no, most people on here want us to sign players like M'Vila, we would be relegated with dross like that.}

Is it a possibility Ed? Haha.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ya loads of crazy posts on here, people go mad. I'd personally like to see De Jong for DM as he would toughen us up and he still has enough quality on the ball. I'd have liked to sign Wanyama during the summer though I think that could have sorted us with him rotating with Lucas this season.
A lot of people keep posting about Diame and Nzonzi and I wouldn't want either of them anywhere near our team but it's all opinions! Sure we'll see what happens anyway

Hi all,

Question for Ed001, you said this yesterday;

"Worrying for Everton, in that Martinez had no clue how to change things to cope,
not a single tactical change of note and their entire team looked completely lost."

From what you saw, how good is Brendan Rodgers in changing things to cope during matches? And does Liverpool's lack of depth actually has restricted the changes that he can make in games?

Thanks Ed001 in advance. :)

{Ed001's Note - he has made mistakes a few times this season, in that he got it wrong to start with, but no one gets it right every time. I have been impressed with his ability to make changes to fix the issues at half time. It seems a lot of lessons have been learnt from our start to the season, where we blew teams away in the first half and then faded badly in the second. You are correct, the lack of depth has affected the changes available, most have just been getting the players on the pitch to play a different way or alter their position. Such as moving Coutinho into the middle from the left etc.}

If we can get Konoplyanka and one of Yann M'Villa & Nigel De Jong it will be a successful transfer window.But let's hope LFCTV don't do a transfer window special like 2 years ago when they spent 3 hours talking about who we never signed.

Jeez! remember that. poor Ry Evans did'nt know whether to have a shave or a haircut!

Hi eds
Not related to January window but was just wondering in terms of the summer with the transfer policy if Madrid which one of the eds mentioned of jus buying players for the sake of buying then could some of these be available?
This season illaramendi and casemerio have only started like 5 league games between them and that's with long term injuries to both khedeira and Alonso so clearly they are young players but would they be happy with not playing?
And even a player with supreme talent like sick has only started 15 games again partly due to lots of injuries to the two midfielders and bale
Do you see them letting any of these go? All seem cracking players when I have seen them

{Ed001's Note - they prefer to loan them out rather than sell them.}

Supposed quote by konoplyanka. Konoplyanka is keen to leave Dnipro and says he is excited by Liverpool's interest."LFC?, " he said. I"m so excited about it and soon you will know where I will play.""It's all very serious. I'm shocked myself. It will all be clear very soon."

Found some stat's today you may find interesting, based on current squad, irrespective of signings. According to statistician Constantinos Chappas (@cchappas) Liverpool now have a 65% overall chance of finishing in the top four.

Chappas’ model is based on data from each Premier League match so far, to provide a statistical probability of each team’s likely positional finish for this season.

“The model is based on match stats such as goals, shots, shots on target etc.” explains Chappas. “Based on these figures, the performance of each team in each match is assessed and used for future predictions through a statistical model which in turn results in probabilities.

“I then simulate a large number of times what may happen in the matches yet-to-be-played and produce probabilities for where teams might finish.

“Even though the model is not really designed for end-of-season predictions but rather for match-to-match predictions, it has been quite accurate for a few years now.”

The model calculates that Liverpool have a 3% of winning the title, added to 62% probability of finishing second to fourth.

Everton’s top four hopes are ranked at 21%, Tottenham’s 19% and Man United’s at 9%. good aye!

You could also use the simulate mode in FIFA

Evertons top 4 hopes went with oviedo, lukaku, distin, coleman.

Their injuries make villa look a lovely price at 6/1

Greetings Ed1 and Ed2. If I was to suggest Kono and De Jong coming in tomorrow would that be reasonable? I'll be working all day tomorrow so I will miss out on the deadline day madness. Thanks as always.

Evening all

The other side of the family (we don't like to talk about them) are blues they have been saying for two days how they were the better team we were lucky ect. Assumed they just tried to wind me up then went on their banter page they genuinely think we were lucky and that people like Henderson are weak links and the ref gave us everything and they dominated the game bye the way this was from one of their eds.

My point is appreciate the balanced view of in house Ed 1 and the well informed view on all things football (no axe to grind) Ed 2 we may not always like what they say but at least we can always say they are not complicit in our delusion.

I think Ian Ayre takes a lot of unnecessary flack, yeah he looks a bit funny (Wouldn't look out of place on the set of Lord of the Rings) but the club still command great commercial respect. The club is actually becoming sustainable (FSG obviously playing a huge part) & after all the club have thus far stuck to our guns, resulting in signing Sturridge and Coutinho for 12m and 8m respectively; meager fees when you consider their talent.

It's not in Ayres interests to lose players to other clubs, the club are very clear about sticking to their valuations on players and some aren't worth the money. Let us also bare in mind he is a fellow fan who understands the club and our values and I would much rather him in charge than someone who does not understand the club.

Eds how much say does Ayre actually have when it comes to deciding how much to pay for a player? Is the decision the committees?

If we recall Robinson as cover for left back, and with Tom Ince being loaned (most likely to Palace not anywhere near us again - thankfully), then will Blackpool want to take Ibe on loan?
Be nice to see him get some regular game time.

Hi Ed, you just said that we weren't to far off the price to begin with in the Konoplyanka deal but then why are they taking so long to get the deal done? Surely the closer it gets to the deadline the stronger the position of the selling club becomes and also the higher the chance of being outbid by a desperate club that's willing to pay over the odds? It seems a very risky strategy. Anyhow I hope we get him. It wouldn't look good if we lost out again to another club at the last moment.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it takes time to negotiate a deal when a team isn't keen on selling.}

Is all the bargaining power with the selling club though? When does Kono's contract expire?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - doesn't matter, bargaining power is irrelevant, it still takes time unless you just throw money at a deal or a club is desperate for a sale.}

Imagine his salary is also too high to give him a contract based on expected CL. might have asked for him to take a cut until we qualify with incentives if he plays a big role and wishes to stay with the club. That way if he doesn't pan out we won't lose any more than the already substantial transfer fee. Worth the risk in my opinion, but sadly I'm not in Ayre's ear haha. ynwa azkop

I am starting to think people are clueless. there is not a warehouse or superstore full of players that we can buy for cash and carry out in a shopping trolley. these things take time. everyone please chill
