just thought
how many players would have been in the England squad if we had a good season.

we trusted the king, but we were told he bought poor English, then Roy who owes us nothing goes and picks them all

Can one of the Editors tell me what really made Rafa sell Robbie Keane? He was brought up in a conversation I had today and someone pointed out that Rafa clearly said he wasn't going to be sold and then he just suddenly left...

Any of the Eds know anything we don't? {Ed001's Note - it was off field activities, he was completely unprofessional. Contrary to what most people believe, Rafa did want to sign him, he didn't leave him out in a fit of temper or to prove a point. It was not a petty move at all that saw Keane left out of the team and then booted out as fast as possible. It was purely disciplinary.}

My understanding is that Rafa did want Keane but he wanted Barry first. He said he didn't want Keane if he couldn't get Barry - which of course... he didn't.

BthekingB {Ed016's Note - Because Liverpool fans were chanting "You can shove Gareth Barry up your......" It was pretty clear Rafa never wanted Keane}

I dont know much about the Robbie Keane saga, but I heard Rafa wanted both Keane & Barry, but the price paid for Keane didnt leave much in the kitty for Barry, thus why he never signed (I'm probably wrong but...)?

On a lighter not I am very fond of anagrams and scrabble...

"Injects Ruin Upon" sums up Robbie Keane quite well!

dmedly

Keane had a fight with Edgar Davids at Tottenham, after a late tackle occurred on the training pitch.

The players had to split them up and then Edgar Davids stormed off the training pitch.

I know Davids was a tool in his time, but Keane has been a tool from all accounts as well.

Rafa wanted Villa (then of Valencia) if i remember correctly, who was willing to come and Valencia had not much choice about selling, (as they had financial difficulties into the hundreds of millions) and the old Liverpool owners decided to get Keane instead, as he was £7 million cheaper.

I might be confused but i think that was about right. Rafa did try with Keane, but it was pretty clear from quite early that Rafa's system wasn't able to make good use of Keane.

Bellamy was a terror and he was ''got rid of'' for things off the field. He's matured a little in his latter seasons and just wants to enjoy his football.

I always thought Bellamy had great ability from his Norwich and Newcastle days, he's played well for Bobby Robson and he played well for Kenny, two people Bellamy had lots of respect and love for.

Let's hope the Cardiff boy gets on with the N.I. born and Adopted Swansea Jack hero. :)

So what did keane do to get himself jogged on?

And he was awful in a red shirt

cozinoz {Ed016's Note - True that}

Do the anagram and you'll know!

Ed is it right that there bring our away kit out at 12am? And that it's black and red? Hope not! What will it be are 3rd black kit in 3seasona, just with Gray then sliver now red :s

Please post thanks. {Ed001's Note - not sure mate, I expected them to give it at least a week before the 2nd kit is released, to make sure they don't affect home kit sales.}

How long will it take for Rodgers to grow a goatee beard?!

The fact that Brendan Rodgers is so well respected by world class managers(mourinho,del bosque,van gaal, to name a few)should be making us all excited. I don't understand some of you guys who say, he hasn't won anything,he's only 39,etc etc. We just hired a long term solution to the problems that were so well highlighted this past year. His philosophy is ball control,pass,pass and more passing,tactically we will be much better because we will not be sitting back anymore,we will be pressuring as a team in a style I think will be great for us and for the style of the Premier League(see swansea results). Gonna be interesting to see who he wants to bring in to play this system although i believe we don't need many new faces.
Would love to hear the ED's thoughts on Rodgers as the long term future of the club. I for one think he's going to do very,very well. Thanks for all the work sifting through the rumors and gossip Ed's. This is my site for info here in America,so I appreciate it a ton ED's. Walk on.

phillyred {Ed001's Note - I think he has the makings of a future great manager, I can see why they picked him, he was the best outside of the club that was available. He plays the right style of football, he inspires players with his training and they all love him. While he wasn't my personal choice, I think he is head and shoulders above Martinez.}

Only issue I see (and this is just my opinion) is I don't know if our current squad (with a few exceptions) has quite the legs to run around like what is needed for 90 minutes to implement this style. Just seemed to me a lot last season we looked a bit tired compared to our opponents.

Hopefully I'm just wrong or with the proper coaching/training we can get to where we need to be, but this does concern me a bit.

RDL {Ed016's Note - His fitness coach also joined I believe. I agree, Downing seemed to loose his legs a lot last season. It's also about motivation to play in that style. I think it takes a fair amount of solid mental attitude to WANT to run around all game.}

Not just LFC, but the premier league should hope he succeeds. If the EPL is to be more than just the richest league, it needs Rodgers and his style of football.

31 May 2012 22:05:13
I for one am looking forward to next season now with great intent. It may take a while for Rodgers to implement his style, but we usually had decent possesion anyway last season and we have a couple of months to work on it now. A few players especially may take a while to adjust eg. Enrique & Downing who need to be quicker on the ball. I think that Aquilani will definitely have a place in Rodgers' squad as will Joe Cole as they both suit his style. A stat that should get you excited for the football we'll play next season and in the coming years: Only Barcelona, Manchester City and Bayern Munich had a better pass completion rate than Swansea last season. Cheers for posting eds!

Eds & fellow Reds...

Is it sad that I want to go to bed right now, so that the press conference tomorrow morning, arrives ASAP?

'Really excited' is an understatement...

Does anyone know when we get news about a new stadium will it be a completely new design or will it be one of the previous designs.
I know china airlines are rumored to be investing heavily for the naming rights and a announcement might be made at tomorrows press conference I just dontknow if the owners have had a new stadium designed.

31 May 2012 22:27:24
liverpool team 2012/13 (IN MY OPINION!)
reina
johnson skrtel agger enrique
lucasm
sigurdsson gerrard
boudebouz ba suarez

subs
gordon
carragher
coates
diame
bellamy
carroll
what do you think eds? {Ed022's Note - Optimistic.}

Henderson?
Adam?
Downing?

Even if by some freak turn of events, Adam and Downing were shipped out, there is absolutely no way Hendo is going anywhere.

31 May 2012 22:20:28
Luuk De Jong, Sigurdsson and Muniain would make for an excellent summer. Your talking 45 million, but we'd likely recoup £10 - £15 in player sales, plus get a lot off the wage bill so not completely unrealistic.

Papa G

Sounds great! I'd by my first shirt with a name on the back Muniain Sad right.

How would you fit all of them into the team?

LW: Muniain
CM: Gerrard, Lucas, Sigurdsson
RW: Suarez
ST: Carroll/De Jong

Hmm?

31 May 2012 22:02:06
A question , so according to whats gine on it seems that the role of DOF may not happen anylonger , surley rodgers alone will not be able to attract the calibre of players needed to get back in the running for champions leauge! If we had the likes of tixi or LVG then players may be attracted. Great work eds

I've seen this sort of comment quite a lot and I'm just curious- what caliber of player is needed to get back to the Champions League? Do we need a team full of £35M players? £25M?

I don't personally care how much a player costs or what team they come from, the end result is what matters most to me. Put it this way- at the beginning of last season would you have put money on Newcastle being above Liverpool and Chelsea at the end of the season? Didn't think so...

RDL {Ed016's Note - It's not really about the initial cost of the players. I mean we spent a fair amount last summer on transfers but we saved a lot on wages. Wages are where clubs get really suckered. Chelsea are going to pay Hazard 270,000 over how many years, that's over a million a month, that we can not afford. If the rite player comes around try not to think "they maybe too expensive initially" well if their wage demands aren't ridiculous then they could very well be a target .... for example there is still a debate why didn't we go for Mata over Downing, similair prices...well not really when you look at how much Downing was asking for per week and then you see how much Mata wanted. Also taxes for players in England are very high, Hazard won't see half of his actual pay but even more so of a reason to demand a higher pay so what you do get is still substantial. Others play football because they love the game and they are not blood sucking leaches.....Chelsea rent boys!}

If we can reproduce the Swansea style, we won't need big name players. We just need the first teamers and the youngsters to buy into his system.

Haha beautifully put Ed016

I think FSG have played a blinder here. They kept they're mouths shut, didn't brief the press, and got on with the buisness of finding a new manager behind the scenes. I think the whole Martinez thing was a massive curve ball for the press to latch on to. Mr Whealen helped with his running commentary, which helped facilitate the cover story. Meanwhile, the REAL work was going along just nicely out of sight. Because all of a sudden, BINGO, Brendan Rodgers, New Manager, just like that... Well played FSG, well bloody played. Now for the Stadium. This should be interesting. We've got the biggest Shirt sponsor in the world, we've got the biggest Kit supplier deal in the world, now, we just need the biggest Stadium Naming Rights deal in the world to round it off... THEEEEESE Yanks know what their doing folks, have faith.

Stevie, Never Forget The 96 "YNWA"

Guys like Henry and Werner made their fortunes in very competitive businesses. They are not fools.

And I have a sneaky feeling there is a lot more news to come. They have just gotten started.

31 May 2012 21:59:25
Why are some people assuming we are getting Swansea players? Brendan Rodgers will see the scout reports from Liverpool and he also may suggest new targets. I'm also sure there will be a "gentlemen's agreement" not to pursue any Swansea players anyway. Very happy with the appointment!

Square tomato

"Gentlemen's agreement'! Harry Redknapp had a "gentlemens agreement" not to play Saha against the Bluedopes then played him claiming injuries forced his hand.
You will be laying you fake Lacoste tracky over a puddle next. {Ed016's Note - 'Arry is a crook}

Team next season; Rodgers - Manager

-----------------Reina----------------
---------Skrtel---------Agger---------
Johnson------------------------Enrique
-----------------Lucas----------------
-----------Gerrard--Muniain-----------
------Suarez---Carroll---G.Ramirez----

Other potential signings -
Luuk De Jong/Soldado
Boudebouz/A.Johnson
Tello
Matias Suarez/Dembele
Keep Aqua man

JM95

Muniain is definitely not a central midfielder. Sigurdsson seems possible so I'd stick Muniain on the left wing instead of Ramirez and stick Sig next to Gerrard.

BthekingB {Ed005's Note - Sigurdsson isn't a central midfielder either. He can play there but he's not a natural CM.}

I think Muniain would like to play a little further forward than where Leon Britton played last season. Would also cost a ridiculous amount of money.

Red7.

Muniain and g.ramirez would swap places

31 May 2012 21:53:41
Evening eds / macca and fellow reds anyone know what the feed back is from the players on the appointment . Cheers psv

31 May 2012 21:51:44
Everyone stop and spare a thought for Jay Spearing - he's no chance of catching the team now.

Thank god.
kopfiend 1978 ynwa

Let's hope so

Thats good news, i know he plays with his heart but his feet have let him down.

31 May 2012 21:50:46
Well the manager merry go round finally stopped spinning on Rodgers and I for me am quite pleased. Martinez was my choice, but I don't think theres much between the two really, both have very exciting footballing philosophies, both are young and ambitious, and I think Rodgers time with mouriniho should have furnished him with some excellent man management skills.

Overall I think this may be the start of a great new era for our club, especially if the owners back Rodgers with a bit of cash in the transfer market and I think they will. I believe we are only 2 genuine wingers away from being a really robust top 4 team.

I for one wish Brendan Rodgers all the luck in the world and look forward to seeing what he's going to do with the team. I hope we can all get behind him and not become really negative when he loses a couple of games after all he's one of us now

Andy H

31 May 2012 21:47:46
Hi, 1st of all thank you Eds for keeping us as up to date as humanly possible, I'm curious to know what's going on with Van Gaal as Martinez refused the job as he didn't want to work with a DOF so FSG turned to Rogers as presumably he didn't have a problem with it, now I'm hearing that Rogers does not want a DOF to answer to neither, Are we still looking to appoint LVG or not?
Huge mistake if not, we could have a great set up if the 2 could work together as they both have similar ideas of how the game should be played, many thanks
Kopkeef {Ed022's Note - As far as I know nothing has changed regarding a DoF.}

31 May 2012 21:47:36
Hi eds, do you think we have a chance of signing Matias Suarez, his approach play and physical attributes are similar to Luis Suarez. Would be great, do you think they'd accept 18 million euros?
There manager said he was "technically better" and they could get more money than they got for Lukaku..
Cheers, YNWA. {Ed022's Note - There was previous interest in M.Suarez from Liverpool, but unsure of how strong the interest currently is.}

31 May 2012 21:44:04
Just want to no here fellow reds, dis anyone else receive the new home shirt today, as I did?

31 May 2012 21:41:47
Expect Coates to be a key player for BR. Remember young player of Copa America.

Coatsey!!

I think he'd promote sama(reserves CB) to the first team as well, he is a big guy 6'2" and 19 years old and a very modern ball passing CB

as well as senior reserves who have what is takes to play his system like; Suso, Sterling, Toni Silva, Adorjan, Teixeira.

31 May 2012 21:41:07
Henderson in the England squad, well done lad, looks like we will be watching Liverpool at the euros! Lol

Remember Liverpool 5 Germany 1

That would be impressive if one of the players in the England squad was German born

31 May 2012 21:39:32
hello edds were gona get linked with a few swansea players over the next few weeks but theres one player i would love to see in are midfield an thats that sigurdsson i think hes gona turn into a real talant an would try an get him before one of the orther clubs get hold of him what do u think edds an how old is he an is he german {Ed001's Note - 22 and Icelandic.}

31 May 2012 21:32:30
Can we have Vorm as well please ? Tobiwan

31 May 2012 21:29:43
Has Steve clarkes resignation been or beIng accepted? Only asking as br is bringing an assistant manager with him

31 May 2012 21:25:02
Strootman, Narsingh, Sigurdsson, Ramirez and Diame on a free. That would do for me! Let's tiki-taka the s**t out of the league next year!

-Shane.

How do those players make us top four?

Can't simply be made top 4, you've got to earn it. So, now that Liverpool have put Rodgers in place then these players would be great additions to the way we're going to play.

-Shane.

Strootman, like Elm(not mentioned) would really help us reach top 4, wonderful passers. We'll be using 3 central midfielders so there's room.

To the second poster, have you seen Kevin and Ramirez play ?

In 3 years along with suso, sterling, morgan, toni silva etc etc etc etc duurrrh.

CM; Strootman - £10m
RB; van der Wiel - £10m
Wing; Elia - £7m or Gio Dos Santos
FWD; Muniain - £25m
Wing; Walcott - £16m
LB; Aly Cissokho - £6m

= £75m

downing - £10m
Johnson - £15m
adam - £5m
aquilani - £6m
cole - £5m
kuyt - £4m
spearing - £3m
maxi - free

player in £75m
players out £48m
Total Costs £27m

Along with players we already have, why not? new manager, new system, new belief, healthy squad...have faith

31 May 2012 21:24:59
glen johnson to gerrard passes it out to downing swings it to carrol knocks it back to henderson he's done he's scored the winner in the euro final
if carlsberg done finals

Ruled offside even though it was onside! Would be more Carslberg to me!

Downing still needs to go,henderson will come good,

31 May 2012 21:08:36
Hey Eds, I know its early doors you may or may not know, but I have heard rumours that Rodgers did not want DOF so that idea has been scrapped by FSG! Can you please clarify to the best of your knowledge. Also any idea what will happen to steve clarke it would be a shame if he goes as he has alot of knowledge.

Thanks for clarifying!! {Ed001's Note - I believe the rumour to be correct, that the DoF plan has gone.}

YES! traditional managers role. Good to see IMO, no need for a DoF.

31 May 2012 20:51:36
have to admit iam a little confused. RM was our first choice? he in the end turned us down? any reasons why? plus whats the position on the DoF, will we wont we?

any answers to this will be appreciated Eds.

Red Rout {Ed001's Note - both him and Rodgers didn't want a DoF, but we took Rodgers anyway, I think that tells us conclusively that Rodgers was the first choice, not Martinez.}

Cheers Ed001

compensation for Brendan Rodgers and three of his backroom staff has now been agreed upon

Rodgers, assistant manager Colin Pascoe, performance analyst Chris Davies and performance consultant Glen Driscoll will all leave the club.

31 May 2012 21:11:03
is the rumor about walcott, true? apparently, we were sure to sign him! and then kenny got sacked!

Dodged a bullet, then. Awful

Iv just heared that aswell dunno were its come from tho any idea eds/macca

Phew...!

He probably would have cost 20mil and then everyone would have whinged that we could have had Ramirez or Muniain for that money! Glad it didn't happen 'cause I don't think I could have taken a season of that again.

LIVERPRES

Would've been where all rumours come from, tabloids! I don't believe that one for a second.

Walcott is a sprinter that owns a pair of football boots {Ed016's Note - Perfectly sums him up}

31 May 2012 21:09:45
Hey eds, just done a degree in Sports at Loughborough and decided to specialise in football. A common theme of my lecturer was the football Brendan Rogers implemented at Swansea. His philosophy revolves around winning by keeping the ball. A player at Swansea that does this very well is Joe Allen. He isn't flashy and doesn't play the glory ball too often. This I think may interest Rogers a lot, especially as the two have a good relationship. Just a possibility, keep up the good work eds, Ian Westhall

Personally I feel Lucas will be perfect under that style of play, I would enjoy seeing the clubs tactics change as it is still a passing game but more possession based than counter attack, as for joe allen I feel we have similar players and won't bring anything new to the club -McMenemy

If only Leon Britton was 5 yrs younger...

31 May 2012 21:09:19
just read a good article on news now 'bredan rogers tika taka to anfield' Gives an idea of what a team under rodgers could look like. It suggests skertle and agger out in more solid passer and pacy centre backs. new creative midfielder and suarez to move out wide making way for a new striker.

seemed to make sense to me out with carrol ,adam, enrique,kuyt.

bring in fresh faces likes of ramirez belsa etc

new style of football to finally take us to the top?

maybe just maybe go on rodgers! ynwa

We have almost all the players we need....We need a couple of buys at the most plus replacements for those who leave.......

Football style will remain almost the same...All I can imagine is that the tempo will be slower than when under Kenny....

But it will be a continuity of the same philosophy with a tweak or two from Rodgers....

I hope our fans are not on his back immediately as I dont expect us to have a good season till November as the pre season wont be great due to Euros plus we have a US tour as well followed by Olympics.....

We need to back our manager with the famous Liverpool support

LiverBird

I wouldn't get rid of Enrique or Carroll.

MIKEY

"agger out and bring in more solid passer and pacy centre backs" ? If that's the case, then probably best to keep him lol

if i was brendan rogers my 1st signing would be dembele from fulham he is very comfortable on the ball and would fit into our new system of ball retention. he was amazing against us before he got injured and had to go off. seen him a few times this season and each time he been quality. what do u reckon ed's and fellow reds {Ed001's Note - I don't see anything outstanding in him, decent player but not worth what he would cost for me.}

Reports suggesting £10 million as chelsea and man utd sniffing around not a great amount of money ed001 {Ed001's Note - I don't see what makes him worth that much, I would rather spend less than that on Nick Powell, who offers all he does and much much more.}

Finally, thank you ed, someone who agrees with me. I've been trying tell people for ages that he's really not that special a player. Anyways, ed if Rodger's bringing his own assistant manager, what of Steve Clarke? If he stays what do you reckon his role would be, here's hoping he stays

Vik

I would get seedorf in - great passer and possession retainer

31 May 2012 20:56:46
Who are the three dudes allegedly coming with Rogers to Anfield? Will this mean the end for Steve Clarke and forget Scott Sinclair, he wasn't even good enough for Plymouth Argyle...............

One of them is a spanish kid laurdez

Yeah but Helen Flanagan is a bit fit

31 May 2012 20:54:15
I try not to do this FIFA Manager stuff but I'm starting to get excited (delighted with Brendan as manager and the style of footie which we can look forward to!)..........
REALISTIC business this Summer;
OUT's.........Spearing(3m), Kuuyt(4m), Cole(2m),
Reina(13m), Maxi(3m), Aquilani(6m), Skirtl(9m),
Eccleston(1m), Amoo(sold), Wilson(2m), Johnson(8m), Aurelio(gone), Darby(free).
APPROX.50M Squids
Sterling, Suso, Robinson, Morgan, Adorjan, Silva, Coady, Mendy, Ngoo, Sama, Texeira, Flanagan and Wisdom to get chances to "shine" under BrenRog.......Pacheco might be enthused by the new regime and pull his finger out (or may just leave!).
KEPT(as squad-players) ; Carragher, Adam, Downing, Henderson, Maxi(?), Spearing(?).
n.b. To me, Adam, Downing, Spearing, Henderson(will come good), Carroll(could come good), Enrique(?), Maxi and Kuuyt are no more than bench-warmer-quality and Kenny mis-judged the owners when he brought in most of these. His "vision" cost FSG a lot of dosh (110m?) but he felt it was worth the investment in the future but the Yank money-men are more impatient than they are football-fans!
Don't get me wrong...I actually support FSG regardless of the "teething-troubles". They've done everything they promised they would so far;
-They've listened to the fans and it cost them £7m(£67,000 a day) to get rid of Hodgson!
-They've given the fans their own commitee
-They made 2,000 more season-tickets available to fans on the list for nearly 20 years.
-They've done wonders commercially and guaranteed us big-bucks through sponsorship without which we would be Leeds Utd!
-They've played their cards close to their chests which they said they would do (only to be slagged-off for doing so)
-They set Kenny (who the fans demanded) a target of at least 4th place and gave him £110m (arguably) to assemble a good squad. He didn't meet their target and was sacked. Fair enough.
-John Henry's missus is gorgeous
-They got rid of a self-absorbed Frenchman who could've done more damage than person Parry could've only dreamed about!
-They aren't David Moores (the Club's biggest mistake in over a century!)
-John Henry's missus is gorgeous
-They've appointed a manager whose references couldn't be a lot better. His CV is a bit thin because he's only 39 years old but I'd have thought about re-newing my season-ticket if we'd have got Mourinho or Guardiola. This is the right choice of manager owing to his style of football and the respect he has commanded from his peers so far. Shanks, Paisley and Dalglish were novices by comparison (Our best manager, Paisley, was a physio FFS!)
-Brendan Rodgers was FSG's first choice and he falls right into their philosophy. They haven't lied RedMen!.......Any fickle Hicker who wants to try to compare them with the snake-oil salesmen they relieved us of needs to take a few steps backwards. The stadium can take a bit of a back-seat at the moment due to the recession but, if rumours are correct, FSG have already secured naming-rights via China Airlines.....True or not, only a fool would leap into a massive building-project without certain assurances.
Many (too many) posters on this site are focussing on the "negatives"......most of which are self-created and ignorant of any true knowledge, imagination or information.
FSG + BR+ (LVG) + SC+ KOP= EPL !!!
Simple mathematics !
Above I've given my "outs" and below my "possible ins". It's all fantasy based on a very limited knowledge of overseas football.
Whether anyone agrees doesn't bother me. But what does bother me is the "village-mob" attitude of some "fans" who won't think twice about marching through Liverpool with burning-torches and effigies as soon as someone tells them to do it (S.O.S.?)
REALISTIC IN'S.....Clint Dempsey, Joe Allen, Jordan Rhodes, Siguurson, Jnr Hoillett, Rasmus Elm, A.Johnson, Luuk De Jong/O.Giroud/J.Martinez (2 of 3).
All bollox of course. I hope we can stop with the pretence that Spearing, Kuuyt, Carragher etc. are good enough for 2012-13 success. I really,really hope we can see Raheem Sterling a lot more next season.....he raises the noise of the crowd invaluably.
Which brings me to the crowd!.............Get behind the team for a change next season lads! Don't wait for Man U, Everton, Chelsea and s**tty to come to town. Let's make the same noise Brendan Rodgers is used to at Swansea City!
We're in this together whether we like it or not!
ANFIELDPETE

Excellent positive post mate and cheered me up reading it.

It has to be said that Rogers is a massive gamble by FSG but it could turn out to be a masterstroke. KK was a kid in comparison when he took over for the first time.

My guess will be, that FSG will have some kind of sweetener to get the fans back onside (remember Carroll) as a statement of intent so I think we may see a surprise flagship signing...

Time to get behind the new man from 10am tomorrow.

MikeinUSA

Well said mate, great post!!

Spot. On.

Well said mate...

Hi all, this is my 3rd post to you good work, last post were I quote " brenden Rodgers will 100% be our new gaffer" my source me on a flight back from barca, " now everyone get behind our new no1 this is the dawning of new age ynwa

31 May 2012 20:47:22
ok ill get slaughtered for this but here goes liverpool 2011/12

................................REINA...........................
....................GERRARD..........AGGER................
.......JOHNSON...................................ENRIQUE.
.................................LUCAS.........................
..................SIGNURDSSON....ALLEN............
............SUAREZ................................RAMIERES..
................................CAVANI.........................

yes your right gerrard is at central defender he is struggling for fitness and this position will reduce the strain of playing week after week and he will be brilliant at starting moves from the back.
johnson and enrique will push forward under rogers as thats his style but i have concirns over enriques pace .

we need 2 quality play makers in midfield adam has no place in rogers style of play and henderson and shelvey are both progressing but long way off standard we need bring in gylfi signurdsson and joe allen might be perfect for that job and gaston ramieres for left wing . do not think carroll will fit either there was rumours of ednison cavani cant see this but if true what a team.

If that's your argument, then imagine Gerrard trying to control Aguero......it'd be worse than Carragher.

Jack D.

You know that the next season will be 2012/2013 right

Are you actually being serious?
No Skrtel?
Questioning Enriques pace?
Carroll is just coming good now

Wise up!!

Tyrone

Actually turning Gerrard into a centre half is a fantastic idea. He'd be well able for it, good players can adapt. It could give him a few more years at the top. He is struggling in midfield now and his distribution from the back would be great. Didn't Lothar Mattheus switch to centre back late in his career?

Hugh Pugh.

Breaking News - I just bumped into Daniel Hanwell and he confirmed that Brendan Rodgers will be appointed Liverpool manager at a press conference on Friday morning at 10am. Although some of Daniel's previous predictions have been slightly 'off' he's 100% confident that his 'source' is reliable this time.
Have to say if he's right about this then I think a lot of people on this site will owe him a massive apology.
Get back online soon Daniel. The Eds and Macca can't run this show by themselves.

PS - I probably shouldn't be saying this because Daniel swore me to secrecy but apparently the club are also going to launch some new kit deal or sponsorship thing in the morning too? Don't hold me to that though because Daniel said this info came from a different source who's based overseas.

Anyhow if he gets both predictions right then... I dunno... maybe give him the respect he deserves and hand the bloke his own page?

Martin,
Dublin

This Daniel fella is really 'switched on'! WTF? Ha Ha!

Pmsl!
Somehow I don't think Mr Hanwell will show his face for quite a while

Chris in Tamworth

Lol I'll be surprised if he ever posts again... What a tool he is

G BOX

Well done a true god mystic meg of football.
then again i have been reading the papers all week as well

This is a joke right? I feel dumb for asking this because the Eds have told us all of this countless times. So... this is a joke right?

just dreaming but my dream lfc team 2012/13
-----------reina------------
johnson--skrtel--agger---enrique
-------lucas----gerrard------
Suarez----Ganso-----ramirez-
--------huntelaar-----------
just the starting eleven and just a dream
now that is a champions winning team

Pepe want to leave Liverpool.

Ganso 25m euros
Ramriez 20m euros
Mario Suarez 18m euros

Is what we would need to be a championship wining starting 11

Ganso, i get M. Suarez, good player and affordable. But the price we'd have to pay for Ganso would be disgusting! significantly north of 25m euro, and his wages would be huge because the clubs that have offered him contracts, would have offered him the world.

31 May 2012 20:29:35
Joe Allen is a must by for Liverpool

Matt

And let the mediocre player rumours begin..

Allen completed 500 more passes last season than the highest on our team, Enrique; and completed 110 tackles which was highest from both Swansea and us...if he's mediocre then what does that make our players? {Ed005's Note - If the stats tell you that then did Adam have a better season this year than Alonso did many years for LFC? Given that Adam's stats are better?}

31 May 2012 20:24:56
The formation that I believe Liverpool will have next season and the players that I think will be brought in
------------reina-----------
enrique--skrtel--agger--johnson
------lucas-------elm---------
suarez-----gerrard------ramirez
----------de jong--------------

subs-doni, coates, kelly, henderson, downing, carroll, sigurdson

Actually quite realistic. I'm impressed...

31 May 2012 20:23:28
Hi Eds, I know it might not be possible to say but is Brendan Rodgers still planning on spending 4 days with Spain in their pre-tournament training camp?

It was all arranged whilst he was still Swansea manager, but presumably he'll want to take advantage of such an opportunity (and who knows, maybe whisper in a few ears!!)

Joe {Ed022's Note - I really don't know that one, it's an interesting question though.}

31 May 2012 20:21:47
A press conference has been called by the club for 10am tomorrow. It's on LFC TV, and the club are Tweeting proceedings as well.
I'll be very dissapointed if we don't get the usual 'new signing holding up a shirt' picture.

Redjinal

Be disappointed Redjinal.....Brendan Rodgers and Warrior Sports will occupy any press-conference (plus new back-room staff and possibly Louis Van Gaal as technical/sporting director).
I've no inside-knowledge but I'll bet my house on no new signings (if I lose the Council will be furious!)

Hi eds, do you know what the situation is with Steve Clarke? Or is that a silly question? Il be disappointed if he does leavee but suppose he doesnt fit into B.R's new plans. I thought with his assistance we produce some great football with a fairly average squad, just lacked a clinical finisher. Any info would be appreciated eds :)

Red Danders {Ed001's Note - I don't know yet, he knows Rodgers so I am hopeful he will stay.}

31 May 2012 20:04:31
Brendan Rodgers is not the man to lead us to success. He's not ready. Have we not learned from past mistakes of big fish in small ponds, Hodgson. I can't believe that this is the person that we actually think has the ability to even touch what the King achieved.

They asked the Fans on their twitter account, who do we want to succeed Kenny, I'm starting to begin to question whether that was serious, or if it was a publicity stunt, because if they was serious about our opinions they would be going above and beyond to get Rafael Benitez at the helm of Liverpool were he belongs.

Rodgers had a couple of good seasons with Swansea, Hodgson had a couple of good seasons with Fulham, same sh!t different day.

I know it's a bit premature to be blowing him off, but geezus christ, we're a club, were the fans have been used to stability since the inception of the club and it appears to me that these yanks are to prepared to gamble on a manager that has no proven track record. Rafa's been there, done that. 1 champions League, 1 FA Cup & we almost won the league under him. He constantly contributes to the Hillsborough foundation and knows the club inside out. Rafa wouldn't just bring success, I believe he would bring stability.

I don't think Rodgers will be given the time he needs to grow into the role leading to more manager turnover and more instability in and around the club. We'd be lucky not too lose a hell of a load of players this summer if we don't make the correct decision in terms of the manager position.

Just my opinion guys, You'll Never Walk Alone.

Pistolero

How do you know he's not ready?

He's 39, with 14 years of coaching experience.

Carra will be 50 before he's at that stage!

Give the guy a chance.

You ask in your first paragraph "have we not learnt from past mistakes", but then you go on raving about Rafa!!
I am quite looking forward to seeing some quality football returning to liverpool, the liverpool way of playing, which got lost when Houlier took over and then Rafa carried on Houlier's work and the Roy.
I think Brendan Rodgers, could be the spark that ignites this football club of ours back to greatness.
Hopefully tomorrows press conf will not only see the unvailing of Rodgers but also a change in managerial structure and positive news on the stadium issue. I am feeling positive about next season and hopefully after tommorows announcements this positivity will increase.
Dr A

Well most of the website poll also BR is 50/50 choice. no point to any agrument. wish him good luck and time will answer this gamble pay back or not.

r-r

I think you mean small fish in a big pond

Tactics son read about them...

Brendan Rodgers is not a big fish, and LFC are not a small pond. (I think I get what you're alluding to though).
He's got a great footballing philosophy and his coaching education is very impressive (spent time at Barcelona, Real Betis, Seville and clubs in Holland). How can you state so matter of factly that he'll be a failure?

Also, I don't know how you normally greet new playing and coaching staff, but I will most certainly not be blowing him off. Not until he wins the league anyway.

Well Rafa only had a few good seasons with us and 1 or 2 decent ones with Valencia but I do remember hearing the Valencia players loathed him... {Ed016's Note - A few good seasons....2 almost 3 champions league finals one win, one point off of a title and broke defensive records all over the shop oh and the FA cup and a Carling cup final. But yes his man management is known to be poor at best. But to call it a "few good seasons" is slightly insulting to the man considering it was the best few seasons in the past 22 years.}

31 May 2012 20:04:10
seen on bbc that press conference at anfield tomorrow 10am is this true ed's

RED KENNY {Ed022's Note - Yes.}

31 May 2012 19:55:44
I have to be honest and say that the euros may actually do us a bit of good for next season! We have Johnson gerrard henderson downing and Carroll training together during a period when players from other teams will be larging it up on holiday... If it does nothing more, it will keep their match fitness up ready to kick off the new campaign!

Danski

Or they will pick up injuries/tired & be f****d for pre-season, B******S to England...... LFC all day

And saurez and probably coates playing for uraguay in the olympics maybe kelly for england

31 May 2012 19:37:00
Ed's please tell me we getting a director of football, just read report on SSN that we are not getting one. {Ed022's Note - I have no reason to believe that we aren't getting one at the moment.}

I really wish LVG or the Spanish Tixi one of them join us so we can bring few good player. as new manager may fail to bring them in Liverpool

31 May 2012 19:53:25
In BR we trust, lets give him a chance I think with his style he'll pull us right back up, id personally be happy with top 5 next season I think after whats gone on that'd be a good place to finish, cant wait for the transfer market and next season now

Really hope he can sign joe allen from swansea. his keep position in the middle is wot we need. henderson cud improve with him also

31 May 2012 19:47:56
why does everyone keep knocking the likes of Downing and Henderson ? give them a chance they only had 1 season Downing got man of the match couple of times Hendo showed he has potential but needs time to settle in ,these pages were full of people slating Lucas a couple of seasons ago but look how we missed him this year ! personally i think the only bad buy Kenny had was Adam, even Andy came good we have a very good base to our team just need a couple of proven goal scorers ,Bellamy will hopefully see out his career with us and Andy will go on to be a legend but we need back up , Kuyt and Maxi had there day ..........

The thing is we paid about 35m for them both and they have done VERY little to prove that they are worth that amount. We could have signed so much better players for that but our obsession with British players led us to spending stupid amounts on pretty average players. For this amount you expect instant results, but so far NONE of the british players brought by Kenny have performed at the level expected when you pay this amount of money.

RDR

31 May 2012 19:46:15
is it just me who is thinking Roy is trying to Tire out as much of our squad as he can for next season?
it means that the following players will likely start pre season later which will means that the summer transfer window is very very important.
Johnson
Gerrard
Henderson
Downing
Carroll

I think it's a good thing for all them for different reasons for each player good luck to them I'm glad they there hope they enjoy it win or lose play or not
Lfc linc

They will be home end of the group stage don't worry

KoPeNdFaN

Behave mate, they'll be home at the end of the group stage

If they do well, their transfer value will rise and we will benefit. Hopefully Downing and Johnson have a good tournament, especially.

31 May 2012 19:46:09
seen a interview last night from 1 current player and 1 former player of brendan rodgers, 1 said about his training is tottally different every session they never do the same training session twice and the other said he demands his team win the ball back in 6 passess. they both spoke very highly of him and also said they will love his training sessions and he is a real man manager. his style is very much like barcelona as this is were he went to learn training methods while doing his coaching badges. bring on the good times come on red men and i wish you all good luck in the world brendan.

31 May 2012 19:43:39
SSN reporting that Rodgers will be confirmed as our manager in press conference at 10 am on Friday 1st June.

Why would somebody disagree with this persons statement, its been made official know your facts before disagreeing with somebody

31 May 2012 19:41:59
When Martinez was favourite to get the job people linked us with Victor Moses,Hugo Rodallega,Diame(realistic) and Al-Habsi!
Now that Rodgers is going to be the manager ov the club now people are linking us with Joe Allen,Scott Sinclair and Sigurdsson. .
I love reading the posts on the site but the majority ov it is utter c**p!
Lol Karim Benzema -30 Million. .
Some people post a players name and a price tag wich obviously is wishful thinking.
Again. .if you don't have anything to post please spare the Ed's time on utter bull.

We will have a manager soon and hopefully a DOF next week. .be patient,The americans have everything in control.

Take Care!

31 May 2012 19:35:29
I don't see why people are insulting Joe Allen. He is a young talented midfielder, with great ball retention and is unbelievably calm with the ball at his feet. He currently boasts a 89% pass completion rate for the whole of last season with an average of 103 passes per game. He is composed and has the ability to pinpoint passes, yet still some individuals manage to insult him because they expect him to be a useless player as he plays for Swansea. Do some research and you'll find he is great midfielder and would be a great addition to our team.

I'd also like to say to all LFC fans to get behind and support Brendan Rodgers when he is appointed, he's going to be our manager; so you might as well give him a traditional LFC welcoming!

Lee Wickham JFT96 YNWA

He's not as good as the stats make out believe me.

Agree there m8 people including me have this silly thought that if they don't play for top 4/5 clubs they not gd enough but I grown up football players getting to the top is a lot about ( not all ) luck and taking your chance at the right time We ll be ok I think we will cum good and the players we got and buy the same I have hope
YNWA kk lfc linc

Couldnt agree more his stats were right up there with xavi and iniesta. not there class yet but he s just what we need

I think he may be an ordinary player in a ordinary team he looked good now and again just like adam and we all saw what happened to him.

Was rafa not interested in him back in the day

No Rafa was too busy gettin Dossena and Josemi for 60 grand a week wages...... {Ed016's Note - They were signed in the days Parry dealt with wages}

Lucas will do this job til the cows come home and win the ball back alot more regularly!

31 May 2012 19:29:05
SSN- LFC Press Conference 10am tomorrow!

31 May 2012 19:26:38
Have Steve Clarke and Rodgers worked together before at Chelsea? If so, Clarke may have had a big say in this... Would be nice for continuity if so.

31 May 2012 19:26:11
hi just wondering what is happening with afellay? He is quite cheap 6 mil i think so whats happening with him

I believe he is quite injury prone and as such something of a gamble

Broken bones heal, but ligament damage stays with you forever, he'd need 6m worth of medicals! {Ed016's Note - Injury prone indeed. Not worth the risk}

31 May 2012 19:25:55
All the pundits going on about Jorden Henderson getting called up, i know he has been poor for us a fair few times but as England under 21 captain, whenever ive seen him play for them he has pretty much been my man of the match each time and scored some awesome goals. Could be the making of him this and benefit us for next season, here's hoping...

Come on jordan come back better!!i think you ve got lot of potential

Potential to be rubbish again

Just shows what football people can see in players that the usual negative punter can't.

Red7. {Ed016's Note - Just shouldn't have played on the right for us all last season. He is a CM}

31 May 2012 19:25:51

I wonder what it could be to announce......

New training footballs ?.

Brendan rodgers will be unveiled as liverpool manager

Smokescreen, we're getting Martin O'neill - manager, Rafa - DoF;)

With the Swansea assistant and others joining does this mean Steve Clarke and Kevin Keane will be leaving?

Gp.lfc

31 May 2012 19:17:55
For me I'd like to see

Roberto Soldado 20-25 million
Rasmus Elm 8-12 million.
Ibrahim Affelay 6-9 million.

And the long shot one of Lavezzi or Munian at 25 million. Here's hoping

Jonesred

We don't have the management to bring the player like Lavezzi , Munian , Saldado.

Please not Lavezzi...overrated

The management to bring those? i don't think it's anything to do with management, so much as it's to do with affordability. They'd cost significantly more than 25m each.

Red7.

31 May 2012 19:16:37
eds any ideas how were going to attract good players when according to reports were now not getting a d.o.f and no offence to br but he is young and relatively inexperienced with top players and how to sign them dnt get me wrong i think were making a mistake with rogers but i am a true red and will support the guy as us reds are known for 1 being the best supporters in the world and 2 we stick by people when most others teams wont {Ed001's Note - are you for real? It isn't all about having a big name manager! I don't know where people get the idea that a young manager won't attract players.}

Money attracts players. Ambition attracts players. Managers attract players. The club itself attracts players. The weather or the city the club is in will attract players.

In other words, what attracts a player to a given club depends on the player! People like Hazard it'll be money, people like Gerrard because he grew up through the youth system, etc.

It's not as simple as 'Mourinho = guaranteed success and access to all of the best players ever'.

31 May 2012 19:15:08
Ironic isn't it, Liverpool have more players representing england at the euros and yet kenny got crucfied for signing most of them

He didn't get crucified for that - he was criticised by me and others for not knowing where and when to play them - Carroll needed a long run in the side, and definitely should have started Cup Final, Henderson was never a right winger, and does he know where Stuart Downing should play - right or left?

John B

Well said and just imagine if England were to also win the Euro's.
Skurks

Does it say something about kenny or something about england?

Thats because roy is in charge

Just because they play for England means they're good? They might be considered some of the best in England...but that's not really saying a lot is it? The English team don't really set the world alight.

-Shane.

The reason for this is obvious...quality of English players is average and bar United the top four don't have that many English players.

Not as Ironic as England failing to get past the group stage.

England do not have many good players to pick from just like us so perhaps they will be like us and finish mid table.

31 May 2012 19:11:28
What's with this clown from Wigan. Some said he was 'respected' ?? If he is that respected why is he talking about other clubs business in public (L/pool and A Villa). Would expect much better from a chairman. Don't wish it on RM, but hope Wigan go down next year, maybe that will keep Mr. W quiet for a while.

31 May 2012 19:07:50
Made up with BR,however I heard on talksport this afternoon on the Hawksbee show talking to a German sports correspondent and he was saying that he was on his way to LFC but now they have somebody else,so I assume he was talking about Klopp as I only heard the end of the conversation.
Any opinions eds

alan50

They were talking about someone going to west brom

I stopped reading when i saw the word talksh**e

I caught a bit of that as well. I think it may have been Ralf Rangnick that was mentioned, as he's looking likely for the West Brom job.

Redjinal

They were talking about Ragnick who was a possible candidate for Liverpool manager when FSG took over in late 2010.

31 May 2012 18:44:43
All this "Brendan rogers" won't attract quality players!... Players go to play with players like Suarez, gerrard, pepe, they go to play for the club... Clubs attracts players not managers! How do you think cavani and lavezzi ended up at Napoli, falcao ended up at athletico... I'm not saying that is always the case with the exception of perhaps mourinho an guardiola etc... But if they went and managed Swansea, you think messi/ronaldo would follow them! Get behind the manager and stop actin like prima Donnas!

Danski

So true mate managers come and go but its the club that players should be attracted by

31 May 2012 18:43:03
Think our top players will leave now , thought if DOF was there we had a chance . Not now and the new players will be avaerage at best .very low times ahead

I suppose you are a YNWA sort of guy then

John B

How about you become a real fan and support the team

Shut up you muppet

How do you even know who the new players will be you can not call them average in advance i don't even get why 2 people believe this garbage

JJ

31 May 2012 18:38:04
Anyone else notice that Brukner whom FSG sacked before the end of the season has been replaced by BR's appointment ?

I'm not much into coincidences, therefore perhaps this has been a planned move for some time ? (would fall in line with Macca's view of KK going due to our no.1 target becoming available ?).

Thoughts ?!

Phukkit

Sorry I don't understand

Well BR has brought in is own medical expert by his appointment. Brukner was relieved of his duties some time back for no apparent wrongdoing. In fact, Agger has had the longes fittest period of some time, so he was definitely doing his job well enough. Perhaps BR's appointment has been neg'd for some time with the agreement to bring his own sports science guy in ?

Just thinking......

Phukkit

Rodgers is bringing his conditioning coach with him. Prof Brukner is a sports medic of world renown and reportedly was sacked because he disagreed with the management team on length of time players should be given to complete their rehab to prevent reinjury.

Maybe they needed to fill that position so BR recommended bringing him along?

31 May 2012 19:05:20
Eds I'm just wanting to know how well is the red sox ruin, and can we expect the same from FSG for Liverpool {Ed002's Note - You cannot really compare the two. A different sport, in a different country, a minimum of 162 games per season ...}

They play baseball nearly once every 2 days for the whole year? {Ed001's Note - pretty much every day throughout the season.}

They typically play 3 games in a city on consecutive days. So, something like Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday in Chicago, Friday, Saturday, Sunday in St. Louis, etc.

They even play double-headers sometimes. Usually the starting pitchers are on a rotation though as no way they could play back to back. Everyone else usually plays the full season though, baring injury of some sort. Baseball is not exactly the most physically demanding game...

To Ed's points on the subject, baseball teams probably get a larger portion of their take from the gates just due to the sheer number of games then most sports.

RDL

The Red Sox currently aren't having a great year, but they are consistently a successful team, they typically always make play-offs (which I guess you could compare to making Europe) and they won there first world series in almost 70 years under these owners. Another thing that leaves me confident is that the Red Sox buy players when they are needed and have players come up through their youth system (farm league)

31 May 2012 18:54:34
To all those who say that Brendan cannot attract big name players this is maybe but maybe LFC and the owners want to be making the next big players instead of buying them.

Kopping a feel

I think rodgers keep ball style will bring out the best of what e already have. dare i say even henderson

Hederson going to EURO's! Hope it is the turning point in the LFC career!

Hendo in for England....Come on lad prove all your critics wrong...

Red PG

Well said, let's get behind the lad. What happened to our famous reputation of standing by players even through their bad spells? I remember Crouchy not scoring for months when he joined but we still loved him. I'm beginning to wonder if there is a new band of supporters that are going to trash our reputation over the next few years. Let's hope not

Would be nice but doubt he'll get on the pitch.

Don't be so sure mate, there are a few injuries, I can see him making a few cameos. He obviously won't be starting matches, but he'll play 30mins here and there.
I say obviously, but there is a chance he could start a match in the group stages if everything goes to plan in the first 2 matches. {Ed016's Note - LETS BEAT THE FRENCH!}

31 May 2012 18:49:39
All this news about the manager, I would just like to say congrats to Henderson who will most likely get called up to the England squad after the injury to lampard. Most feel that he isn't good enough but I personally like Henderson and would like to see him there.

To all these all these... 'I'm giving up my season ticket' 'We're only a mid-table team' moaners. Where exactly were you in the 90's? Remember when Souness was manager, he also took us to an 8th position (94). In fact Roy Evans (Loved the man) & the 'Spice boys' weren't exactly threatening the premiership summit either & this was when Oil barons & princes weren't involved.

To say Liverpool have fallen a dizzy height & are now not worth supporting suggests to me that these 'fans' either were not supporting in the 90's or just have terrible memories.

dd

I was there mate and the 80s but i dont want to go back to the 90s that why were moaning simple.

Agreed, I was there in the nineties and it was awful, I live in Manchester and everyone I know is a Utd fan so you can imagine how painful it was when they were cleaning up and I had to sit there with them taking the flak. That's what supporting is all about and these people need to realise that success goes around in circles. Our time will come again and FSG are doing exactly the right thing, we needed a massive clearout from top to bottom and I'm very glad and looking forward to seeing how well Rodgers does. I think we'll be fine.
Jud.

Fair play someone else who like me got drawn to the team in the ear;y 90s.
I get badgered all the time by people saying bet you feel well down at the mo bout Lpool and insults that just dont bother me as I support who I support and dont have these notions of glory just happy watching my team play football.
I also dont get upset when Liverpool lose like some but do get upset when they dont try to win this I feel is disrespect by the players to me the fan who spends his money too watch the team play.
For so long we have needed a no nonsense manager we have the players now tell em they better play or else f**k off.forget best positions your a footballer go out and play football.

Kopping a feel

90's was when i fell in love with this club, i don't care if we're in the Blue Square Northern, this club will have my support!

Red7. {Ed016's Note - Well said}

Quite excited about the appointment of Rodgers. I didn't expect to be but after thinking about it and reading various articles about him and what he has done. He does look a manager with a clear philosophy, which LFC have lacked since the early 90's. I just hope he is given time to mould the squad into what he wants. Do the eds agree? I also think the best signings he could make would be, joe Allen from Swansea as he knows him well and he would add that technical ability and passing we have missed since alonso left. I'm not saying he is in the same league as alonso but I believe he has huge potential and when you look at his passing statistics this season he is only behind xavi and iniesta. The next two signings are obvious in a way as we need width and they are, Adam Johnson at 10m wud be a bargain and would provide that flair we have missed for a long time on the wings. And also belhanda, as he is young, fast and explosive. When you look at Swansea Rodgers clearly like having pace on the wings so they make sense. The last one wud be Luuk de Jong because he has been deadly this season in holland infront of goal and I think he woul fit the style that rodgers likes to play. I also think carrol will come good next season because contrary to popular belief he isn't just a good header of the ball, he also has a great touch and good link up play. Thanks eds, hope u post this and let me know what u think to it all! Cheers, LangLFC

31 May 2012 18:19:30
Is it true that Liverpool will now not sign a DOF because Rodgers said he wants full control? Do you think this is a good or bad thing for the club eds?

Thanks

In:
Gylfi Signurdsson £6.8m
Ibrahim Affellay £6-7m
Gaston Ramirez £15m
Luuk De Jong £12m

Out:
Kuyt £1.2m
Maxi free
Bellamy £1.6m
Adam £4.8m

Cheers..

Stichi

Why give Bellers away - that makes no sense. No to mention the other one who ALWAYS puts in a proper shift - Kuyt.
ND

Like the ins not to sure about some of the outs mainly Bellamy

Putting in a shift he may well do but its time to move forward.. we need better players than we have if we are to become a better team.. as much as we love Kuyt n Bellers, its time to say goodbye!
ItsNotRocketScience

Hasnt sigurdsn already agreed a deal with Sawnsea? I doubt Rodgers will want to undermine them any further than he already has by leaving, but this is football so who knows you may be right
Andy H {Ed022's Note - A fee was agreed yes, but Liverpool could still bid I suppose and get him.}

31 May 2012 18:16:48
We need a right winger with pace, flair and skill e.g Belhanda (NOT dyer, sinclair, moses or any other over rated premier league players playing for the sunderlands, fulhams, swanseas, norwich etc etc).
Another striker, who is a proven scorer at a good level/club e.g Soldado.
A creative central midfielder to replace Adam who needs to go! E.g Honda
And if Suarez sadly leaves us, we need a very similar type of player who we may need to spend big on, I dont know who but it needs to be a 'marque signing' of some sort!

31 May 2012 18:09:20
Eds fellow reds . Got to ask all lfc fans are we / you bussing inside about what has happened over the last week ? Is this the best team of coaches that was availible to Liverpool at this time .think villa will be better than us next year if they get lambert I have to say I'm very disoppointed . Cheers psv

Lambert isnt that good, oh and its buzzing

Stop being so negative and support the new manager. LMC

31 May 2012 18:03:43
Brendan Rodgers will give Henderson, Adam and Downing a year to prove themselves. If they don't improve drastically they will be sold.

And you are obviously his advisor in all matters football I guess. Henderson will be at Liverpool for years to come.

John B

I hope Hendo stays, makes some very nice passes UP field and shows alot of potential. I know he's not perfect yet but hope he gets the chance as I saw flashes last season.
Bazzaa

Rodgers is the manager Hendo needs...he might make a big step up next season...serious doubts over Downing who was given every chance by Kenny but couldn't handle the pressure... {Ed016's Note - I feel Downing has no excuses. He has had plenty of experience and he should have done better last year}

31 May 2012 17:24:00
What the hell is this obsession with Pacheco??!! Its embarassing. Its as if he's the next Messi, but why arent all the top club fighting for his signature? Drop it kids.

He's talented for sure, but he doesn't have the drive to make it at the club!

We should be concentrating on Sterling and Suso...they are our future

Team next season;

----------------Reina---------------
-------Skrtel-----------Agger-------
Johnson----------------------Enrique
----------------Lucas--------------
----------Gerrard--Munian----------
-----Suarez---Soldado---G.Ramirez--

What a team - imagine BR style of play with those players, top4? premier league champs more like!

Now the owners need to see this and reach into their pockets. :)

I m sure john henry is on here reading liverpool banter daily

Munain cm? are you mad?

Great team but only 3 of them will grace the fields on a field road next season .gerrard Lucas Enrique .

31 May 2012 17:18:24
Just been watching skysports an BR said no for a d.o.f he said he wonts to take full response ability of liverpool does any 1 agree

If your gonna get the sack you
might as well get it doin' it your way.........

auntie annie.....

31 May 2012 17:17:35
Eds fellow reds , said a few weeks ago we would find out where our owners were taking our club ,I think that has now been answered .mid table team without needing to spend anymore money.sad but true cheers psv ps a least it will be easier to get tickets

What a tool.

So what do FSG get out off us being mid table then?

LAVERS

Lavers - you're wrong - a tool can be useful, can't believe the person writing such drivel would even want a ticket. Good to see people are giving the new manager their backing, I suppose psv could change his colours if he wants an easy ticket.

31 May 2012 17:17:24
Latest from various media sources is that there will be no DoF at the club. The topic was discussed during meetings with BR and the club, but BR refused to work with a DoF. The club were so keen to recruit BR that they have agreed to give him sole control of football matters.

Red Rob

Didn'y RM want full control too ? but he didn't get it so he walked.

31 May 2012 17:16:49
There may not be a DoF as Brendan Rodgers wants full control. We'll see...announcement could come in the next couple hours. Would like to see an announcement today, so that they can start focusing on transfers!

Tomorrow 10 am

31 May 2012 17:13:15
Eds Sky reporting that Rogers will not be working with a DOF, u hear anything bout DOF plans being scrapped? {Ed022's Note - Nope, as far as I know things remain the same at the moment.}

31 May 2012 17:54:36
Hi edds/ macca,

Excellent site read everyday while I'm out in all weathers delivering mail.

Ok so with Brenden Rodgers to be announced as manager soon I think we as fans should get behind him, FSG should give him the time and funds. The main thing for him to have a successfull time at liverpool is to get off to a good start next season. The main goal of next season is a top 4 finish and to win the Europa and if we got the FA cup it would be great! Another item on his agenda list should be to find a long term successor for our captain fantastic Stevie G, in my opinion Christian Erikson of Ajax is the man for the job but not to be signed untill next summer as he wishes to continue his football education at ajax like bergkamp did. I am sure suarez would love to play alongside Erikson once again in an LFC shirt.

Y.N.W.A

Kyle

Guess you haven't noticed a certain Connor Coady who already has a red shirt...

FatJanMolby

31 May 2012 17:53:36
One of the factors in Rodgers taking the job is that he's been promised he can definately buy a certain three players, thought to be Sinclair, Affelay and Gylfi Sigurdsson if not too late

31 May 2012 17:51:23
I really hop BR don't sign up Swansea players we are better than that i think it will show good character if he don't as he knows we are better than that.

I would rather have scott sinclair than downing any day ,

Yea true but Downing should b in a team worse than swansea.

Swansea season ticket holder here. Sinclair drifts out of the game for long periods. Not much end product either. Good at penalties though! Dyer is better but not Liverpool class.

31 May 2012 17:50:13
Real Madrid's Hamit Altintop has confirmed that he has agreed a move to Galatasaray, another false rumour, all our target will have changed due to a new manager being put in place

Altintop was NEVER,EVER a target....No chance,no how,no way!!

31 May 2012 17:45:22
dont know why evryone is talking about sigurdsson. when gerrard was 1 year older he was captaining us in a champions league final. what has sigurdsson done to date ?

Exactly i don't want one Swansea player we are better than that...

If you compare everyone to Gerrard at their age, You'll never be satisfied with anyone again. Gerrard has been exceptional over the years.

31 May 2012 17:41:38
Brendan Rodgers will be fully in charge of Liverpool, unfortunately there will be no DOF, was hoping for Van Gaal.

Lvg would just have fallen out with br
pato108

31 May 2012 17:39:17
Is it me or are you abit worried that we will not attract big name players without the DOF in place?
Rogers is not capable of getting these type of players?

Not worried at all. He will succeed with the board and the fans backing

John B

31 May 2012 17:30:35
think we should play 4-3-2-1 next season with need for extra striker (2 if suarez leaves) and creative support (a la silva, mata, nasri...etc)

should play lucas and henderson as the 2 DM's; henderson has been played out of position all season, think he will flourish in proper role esp. with support of lucas. then best 3 we currently have is gerrard, suarez, bellamy with Carroll up top. just need to sign good competiton in these roles.

31 May 2012 17:02:40
Rodgers, along with three members of his backroom staff - believed to be Colin Pascoe, Chris Davies and Glenn Driscoll - will leave the Liberty Stadium to take control of Liverpool after a reported £5 million deal was struck

31 May 2012 17:02:15
To the fans who say Swansea only play nice football because of Martinez and not Rodgers get real and get your heads out of your arse,If Rodgers wanted to set up Swansea with 10 men behind the ball that's the way they would play, but no he set them up to play good football that's his way clearly certain fans haven't got a clue, give the man credit for how Swansea played last season because if he had any other style of play they would be set up to play that way, some fans are never happy and always moan about something I'd say the same fans wanted rafa out then roy and kenny, get real and give the man a chance and stop saying Swansea are playing Martinez way cause there not its Rodgers way it's our future way.
Cheers
Des

To back up your arguement, dont forget that Brendan Rodgers actually took over from Paulo Sousa at Swansea.... not Martinez! Swansea definately play BRs football.

Red G

Well dosnt matter its goin 2 b beautifull play or classic play or anny attaking game, but rodger take it 4 sure he wont atrak players like benitez used 2 do, so forget muniain, javi martinez, llorente, van persie, lukas moura etc, becouse the hell they dont reconise rodger as a world class manager, he is not even popular out side championship, forget premier, look barca may need manager if he is good they might go 4 him, remember guardiola said he will take a year off may be hes not, he may go 2 chelsea, well barca said they will go 4 interin manager but thats not true, and now they might go 4 benitez, if thats happen forget liverpool to get him back 4 another 10 years, so no dream 4 a team like alonso, masche, lucas, torres, and etc. etc

Some people are just unhappy, and use anything they can to spread negativity.

Nameless poster with poor grammar- do you really think we had a shot at any of the players you mentioned with any manager? You are completely deluded.

They are all well above what we could likely afford at the moment.

To the fella that dosent post his name, firstly barca have the new manager in place it was guadiola's number 2, he is clearly not a world known manager but I wonder if he will be able to attract world class players because he is not a wold known coach?? God barca might be in turmoil now!! And rafa wouldn't have a hope inn helps chance of getting the barca job, now your on about the players rafa brought In the dream players you called them, were they world class players be4 we bought them?? NO, we made them world class, the name Liverpool football club itself can attract the kind of players we need, and any player who sees the way Rodgers plays the game will want to be apart of our club,I don't think Rodgers will have any bother attracting players the question is with no champions league football can we afford the transfer fees and mad wages of some if these big name players? probaly not as the best players want to play in the champions league, last season nearly everyone gave out about having a dof now we don't have one people are still whinging, the club is trying to get things in order for the future give them and Brendan a chance and stop giving him s**te be4 a ball has being kicked.
Cheers
Des

Ed do you agree with ths ejit above we are on a slippery slope and no one can see this.
Cheers psv {Ed022's Note - No, we aren't on a slippery slope and that's just ludicrous to suggest it.}

31 May 2012 17:01:05
Afternoon eds , just heard there not any dof ,Rodgers didn't want them so . I am starting to be disheartened already. Don't think he can do it on his own not good enough . Cheers psv

To the people who disagree .1question is he better than kenny on last seasons result.... NO

Did he have the same resources at his disposal? NO. You've got to compare like with like, give the fella a chance ffs, judge him with the same squad at the end of the season on league position, not everyone takes domestic cups seriously

Swansea's wage bill for last season = ~17m. Ours is closer to ~85m (last data I could anyway). So we spent ~70m more on wages than them and got 5 more points.

You tell me- is he better than Kenny? Only time will tell, but you're not comparing apples to apples at all.

RDL

Way better when you look at the resources he had at his disposal. And his team always looked like they knew what they were supposed to be doing: not something that was all that apparent at times for us.

And compare Swansea spending on players last two seasons with Liverpool. I think difference is about 100 million. Which got us 5 more EPL points.

31 May 2012 17:00:52
Hi Eds.
I know this is a little far fetched, but do you think everyone could stop posting pointless s**t about who we are going to sign?
Let the new manager get his coat off first and wait and see what happens.
It's much more exciting than just making things up or asking the same questions over and over.

hi eds. just a quick mail regarding dave whelans conduct during the past week. I know he wanted to do everything possible to keep martinez which is fair enough. but reading what he said today just tells me how classless the man is. he said when martinez does leave wigan it will be to go to one of the top teams in europe, in other words he is saying liverpool arent a top club in europe. he got what he wanted i just think he should of kept his trap shut. martinez has done a good job but whelan saying hes one of the top managers in europe give me a break. what has he achieved avoiding relegation back to back cant see ac milan or bayern munich knocking his door down let alone knowing who he is. sorry for the rant just wanting to get your takeon how whelan conducted himself this past week.
ps i for 1 will be cheering for wigan to be relegated next year having hoped they wudnt go down the last couple of years.

Think u have that bit wrong mate, he was referring to Aston Villa, he was stating that he was lucky that he didn't lose him to us..

I agree with whelan stuff, but wont wish relegation on the club/fans because of one 'classless' man.

He did actually say that Liverpool were the type of team Martinez would end up at.

hey eds, great site!

if any do you think brendan rodgers will be looking to offload any players? do you think he might possibly sell any of kennys buys downing, henderson, carroll, adam etc. because i know that most people thought that kenny would keep them all but maybe brendan will think differently?

cheers. any thoughts, opinions? what do you think eds? {Ed022's Note - It is too early to say.}

Hi Eds,

A few days ago this was posted:

30 May 2012 00:38:40
FSG will give Downing, Adam, Henderson and Carroll a year to prove themselves. If they don't they will be out. They want value for money and they are not getting it with said players. {Ed016's Note - Carrol and Henderson yes! Downing had his season to impress}

016 said Downing had his season to impress. Does this mean we are looking to sell him?

Many Thanks

Steve R {Ed022's Note - Regardless of what other Eds have said, I still that seeing the departure of Downing is unlikely, not that I wouldn't mind it myself.}

I still have a feeling Downing will stay for another season myself. Would like Adam Johnson but only if he had his 'Carroll-esque' lifestyle issues sorted out (I think it was Ed001 who said that he wasn't an ideal candidate for maintaining dressing room harmony either).

I love it when our so called fans get behind the team, Jordan Henderson is still a youngster trying to come to terms with a move to one of the biggest clubs in the world. To label him a "flop" is a bit harsh considering he has yet to have a good run in his preferred position, give the lad a chance.

Henderson will be class.

Shoot me at the end of next season if he aint improved.

Phooey

Players that cost 16 million pounds should not need to be given time to produce a couple of good performances, his impact should be instant! If you pay 5 mil for a youngster, fair enough, they were obviously bought for the future, but when you pay this amount EVERYONE should expect ANY game to show he is worth anything near 16m! He's worth about 8m at best, one of the poorest buys ive witnessed in a while.

Redman

What are you on about mate.You don't by the finshed article at the age of 20.We all agree that 16 million was too much,but when you consider Utd paid 18 1/2million for a 25 yr old Micheal Carrick.Henderson has all the attributes to become a great Central Midfielder.I felt he had his best games when he played there.

Yes but Henderson didn't determine the fee did he? So the accusations you make go against those who paid the fee ie Commoli and Dalglish

I give Rodgers til christmas and he'll be out, Terrible manager. brutal at watford, sacked by reading. He took over martinez's wigan side, rodgers didnt play that kind of football at watford/reading. swansea were already playing like that when he took over. another bad decision by fsg. disaster. we are a sinking ship. Paul ynwa

Absolute tosh - you obviously haven't got a clue.

Fickle fans as usual

He actually took over from Paulo Souza at Swansea.

Get a grip soft lad,give him a chance,a ball hasent even been kicked and ye saying this crap allredy its fans like you that make me sick.Lee

Your a absolute buffoon Paul. Already on the managers back before hes even put pen to paper on a contract. You should be ashamed of yourself.. Go on, piss off and support someone else, we dont need people like you at our club.

Sam Adzii jft96

Don't sign off with 'YNWA' with comments like that. You don't show it in your words.

Think you'll be terribly disappointed. The owners wanted him and will no doubt back him all the way.

So instead of whining, why not find out more about him and judge for yourself next season? BTW do something more positive and support the cause, instead of condemning the new manager even before he is appointed. Singred

He certainly did try and play that football at Reading, as if you ever watched them when he was in charge. It simply didn't work with the personal and style of Reading, Mcdermott's style always did.

He must be a rafa fan , i hoe rodgers gets the fans back together and we can all forget about rafa being our manager again , i believe rafa will be a manager again this season , lets hope the rafa lovers go with him as tyhey clearly dont support liverpool fc , but rafa.f.c.

Looks like the swansea fans have arrived

Lets wait about martinez, who knows he could be a real good manager we been needing. Do not panic fsg still have other candidates to interview . Well i for one will support who ever gets the job

paul ynwa

What Paul wrote a while back. Not showing this same support now are you Paul?

31 May 2012 16:15:56
I had a dream similar to the one by a previous poster who said he dreamt that Brendan Rodgers was the new Liverpool manager. My dream was that Brendan Rodgers and Roberto Martinez were the two candidates in for the job! Hope it was just a dream.

31 May 2012 16:10:31
I realise that it would be very hard for you to tell eds but any idea on when Rodgers will be officially announced? Thanks {Ed002's Note - There will be a statement soon no doubt.}

31 May 2012 15:53:16
I see Rodgers is bringing his coaching staff surely that means clark is going? Also is Rodgers the type of manager who likes to give youngsters the chance or not. Can't help feel people like Pacheco should been played a long time ago. Aggerdo

31 May 2012 16:25:49
Signurdsson would certainly add to the squad, he's a class act in my opinion.

31 May 2012 16:08:05
Hi, does any of the ed(s) or Macca know how the players felt about Kenny being sacked or Rodgers coming in? Would be really interested to know if anyone does.

Thanks

Andy

They are paid to play for LFC - if they have a problem, they can jog on

Well said, players with opinions should be moved on....cant help feeling this has caused some problems in the past few years. Keep your mouth shut and play football its not a difficult game to play if you have talent and half a brain!

I agree 100%. Players are paid to follow the manager's instructions and perform. Their opinion of the manager or owners is unimportant. Shape up or ship out - no matter what your name is

eds quick question. What players do you see not fit into Brendan Rodgers 4-3-3 formation? {Ed022's Note - Too early to say at the moment mate, because Rodgers is capable to formulate new formations rather than sticking to one select formation as if it is gospel.}

31 May 2012 16:07:01
Brendan Rodgers coming in with 3 of his backroom staff , and also a fresh mind for transfers. Hearing about a possible signing for cska moscow attacker Honda , he feels very flattered by the link and would jump at the chance to play for liverpool

Here we go again with the honda rumours, the man hasn't even took his seat yet so i doubt he'll know who he wants to sign.

Welcome to Liverpool Brendan Rodgers!

Shankly 2.0?..

31 May 2012 16:05:00
I have been informed that there was no movment from the ownership in respect of a DOF they stipulated from the outset to all candidates that there is a need for this appointment at the club, i have also been told that there may well be a suprise appointment tommorow in this area however they are waiting to sit down again with the new manager and iron out the relevent permissions he would be seen to have, they have been advised all along that this is the way to go and were keen to place a man in charge as a HEAD COACH.

We should all get behind him and aid his development as a top manager, we all have to start somewhere and there will always be a starting point in terms of progression to a BIG club and i for one am glad we are that starting point my hope is that this is the start of a beautiful legacy that he will create and it need the fanbase to play its part in that.

Ed's I am very sorry to ask but please give me some sort of an answer! Do you have ANY idea who the other 3 from Swansea's backroom staff are, do you know there roles or what they do....Thanks a million...sorry if it's already been asked {Ed022's Note - Swansea first-team coach Colin Pascoe, match-analyst Chris Davies and conditioning expert Glen Driscoll.}

Eds i heard it was the first team coach, goalkeeping coach and carnt remember the other {Ed022's Note - Nope.}

31 May 2012 15:56:19
in my opinion this is who we should sell. then replacing them well i have full faith in the backroom staff at liverpool.
gerrard because we rely on him to much
carragher he is too old and slow
spearing not very young anymore and no good

YNWA

Sell Gerrard, really? And your logic is because he is so good we have to rely on him? Hmmm, glad you're not the manager!

Take away the player you say we need.
You sir, are a genius.

Sell Gerrard because he is too good, Spearing because he is not young anymore? Give him time he has the potential to become younger in the future.

This is a great website you have me here everyday thanks for taking your time to answer our questions & keeping us fans updated on our amazing club.

Ive tried to get a reply to you around five times but heres my sixth...

What do you think on this list of players
G.Ramirez ; L.De jong ; I.Affellay ; Sessengon ; A.Johnson ; M'Vila ;
M.Krasic and one more thing could you see rodgers bringing any of his swansea players to anfield?

thanks JM.

No chance of M'Vila, expensive and being chased by many bigger clubs, doubt he'd choose us over say Arsenal.

JM the way you phrased your question I would have bet any amount of money that you would not get the reply you were demanding
Puzzled {Ed002's Note - Liverpool have been linked with the likes of Luuk De Jong and watched Ramirez. Johnson was historically of interest, M'Vila not.}

31 May 2012 15:52:51
You know brendan Rodgers ed? Can he bring players with him or do lfc actually have to get them seperately. Would like to see sinclair, vorm and allen and possibly siggurdson if we could get in in time. {Ed002's Note - I remember him from his time at Cheslea. I do not know what the provisions of teh agreement with Swansea are.}

31 May 2012 15:51:50
Why all of the Swansea player rumours all of a sudden? will Sigurdsson or Dyer make us a top 4 team?

hasnt history tought us anything?

Woy- signed Konschesky from his previous club and Poulsen, who he wanted at Fulham. 'nuff said.

KK - signed 'good' players from 'average' teams. taking players who stand out in average teams wont make us a top4 team.

Rogers did brilliantly with the Swans, but Woy got Fulham to the Europa final.

cant help but speculate that BR could end up RH mk.II, unless FSG have something up their sleeves... we can only hope!

Hit the nail on the head! people see these players standing out in mid table teams and jump to the conclusion they can shine in a team aspiring for champions leage. people need to wake up, look at past decisions and realise these players are not going to get us where we want. I dont know what has to happen to make some people see this, its crazy.

John

I agree with you apart from Gylfi, he is a top 4 player.

And what about Wayne Rooney?

Stand out player from an average Everton, no?

Scott Parker?

I think it's safe to say the list goes on.

There will be an announcement on the Liverpool website at 5pm today, presumably to announce the new manager

31 May 2012 15:46:14
First of all I'd like to give my full support to mr Brendan Rodgers and wish him all the best as our new boss. He was never my first choice but we all have different opinions so there is no way to please everyone. I now hope he can build a good attacking team that entertains us all and at the same time gets results. Whiskey nose used to say his teams could never get the ball when Roy Evans was our manager and Roy's team were great to watch and just a touch away from being a great team. Hopefully we will get back to something similar in style only with a we bit more luck and success. I always thought that Roy was harshly treated because he was very close to being a great and we kinda lost our way since he left. Hopefully now is a new start for the club and fans and we should all get behind the new boss and give him the time and support that is deserved by a Liverpool manager. Onwards and upwards from now on. YNWA.

31 May 2012 15:35:24
BR is bringing his own team with him, Coach, Match analyst and conditoner, Just been put up on BBC Sport website,
Wonder what happens to Clarkey?,
Oh and just for the record boys stop going on about we need this that and the other on the pitch, last seasons players playing out of position etc like Henderson dont matter anymore, The new gaffer will have his own ideas so we wont see anything until pre season....Lets hope its a good un!
The Guv 81-9 YNWA JFT96 {Ed022's Note - Clarkey's time could well be over.}

So we're getting the whole Swansea Team, a new Bus, someone who likes to look ant matchsticks and some Hair Conditioner. FSG must be buying the Shampoo.

Sorry guys couldn't resist a little humour....

After supporting LFC man & boy for over 40 years I am sad to say they are now nothing more than a mid table team with a fantastic, glorious history. The day Moores sold out to the clowns from America was the beginning of the end.
The current set of owners seem intent on ripping the soul from the club albeit in the guise of "rebuilding for the future". I have nothing against Rodgers, in fact I have friends who know him personally and he is a decent coach and a nice guy generally. My point is he has acheived nothing to date and is far from a PL top 4 coach. Whilst the likes of Man Utd, City, Arsenal, Spurs & Chelsea are all building from positions of strength, Liverpool are building from scratch AGAIN. In 2005 I beleived we were on the up, Champions of Europe and a squad to match anything in the league and on the continent. Seven years, 2 sets of ownwers and 3 managers later we are nowhere. Liverpool may never be what they were but you have to wonder how and why it has come to this. I have (sadly) given up my season ticket and hope the next generation of supporters can sample even a small taste of what I enjoyed throughout the 70's, 80's and 90's.

Grow up, the world is not ending!

I am also a Liverpool supporter for 40 years. There is an American business concept called 'creative destruction' whereby you destroy in order to rebuild properly. Unfortunately Pool have been living in the past too long - to the detriment of the club. Hasty expensive buys - Aqua, Kean, etc in the belief that a little change would propel us to glory. What FSG have realised is that we have to break it up to build it up. With that in mind I think a promising start has been made (I f**king hope so!)

31 May 2012 15:32:22
with rodgers now coming to anfileld, the could be a couple of swansea players going too, most notably scott sinclar and possibly sigurdson( currently hoffenhiem). these two show alot a promise to perform better than hendo and downing next season and could a large part in a top 4 push. intersest of g.rameriez could also depart with kk

31 May 2012 15:29:26
The appointment of Brendan rogers could be very good news for LFC and the whole club. His vision of the game and how it should be played has shown what can be done with a lesser team. His coaching skills and techniques are second to none and also worked under the manager most supporters have wanted for years (JM). It terms of transfers, there are still players being tracked behind the scenes with a potential signing in the next week.

31 May 2012 15:23:40
lets stop moaning and groaning and get behind the team and rodgers ....i feel this could be a breath of fresh air for the club ....a clean slate ....lets be patient fellow reds....ynwa

31 May 2012 15:05:08
Welcome to Liverpool Brendan.

Firstly may i say, i am extatic with the anouncement and think we have pulled off a real coup. Im also over the moon to see the positive reaction from Liverpool fans all over the world and the welcoming support upon Brendans arrival. However, there will always be doubters so i thought id put a few facts together for everyone. (many of these have probably been covered)

Firstly, lets not forget that Brendan was rumoured to be one of those in line to potentially replace Alex Ferguson, a possibility for the Chelsea job this year and also Harry Redknapp's successor if he took England job this summer. Its fair to say, the guy is well thought of in the footballing world. Ask Jose Mourinho, one of the worlds elite football managers. He credited Brendan as a very gifted individual and remains very high in Jose's thoughts, hence why he was head coach of the Chelsea youth set up at the tender age of 31. The Spanish language is of a second nature to Brendan which is a major plus for the Spanish speaking players at the club already and also for the ones who we are linked with.

Also, not sure when and im not 100% how accurate this is but from my understandings (correct me if im wrong please) he educated himself on Spainish football, learning mainly about the sytle of footabll Barcelona play. Also, im led to believe he took large intrest into how Spanish teams develop through their youth. Its that which i think inspired Brandan to play attractive football on the floor.

People can look back and say "what did he do at Watford and Reading?". Brendan made lots of mistakes which have been nothing other than positive for his managerial career. Lets say your in your day to day job, you only learn by making mistakes. I make mistakes every day, but i learn and dont make the same mistake twice. It was a work experience for him, one which has proven invaluable.

But finally i just want to stress my final point, then i promise ill shut up.. All big managers need their break, Wenger certainly did when he was approached by Arsenal. Back then he was managing in the J league. Have they ever looked back? Or how about Di Matteo this season winning the Champions League? And Mourinho, Fergie, Klopp, Hiddink, Guardiola, Ancelloti, Capello. Do you think they just woke up one mornign and became a big name?..

Its alot harder to jeer than it is to cheer. As fans we complain about stability. Getting on the managers back will un-stabalise our club once more. This guy has got quite possibly the biggest challenge in world football due to our position and our expectation as a club and we need to help Brendan out. Liverpool's a family from the board, to the players, to the manager and the fans.

Lets support our club. And lets have a great number of years under Brendan

Sam Adzii jft96

I agree with the points you raise mate, but I think the worry to most fans is

1. Can he attract good calibre players and

2. Can he convince our current top players I.e. Agger, Skrtle, Suarez etc to stay at the club?

I'm hoping you are right but I'm still hoping a big name DOF is brought in to help attract some quality to the club.

I.e Affelay, Soldado, Munain etc.

Jonesred

That my Liverpool Friend is the best post I have read on this great site in many many months you put Mr Rogers pedigree in to perspective this man has the potential to do what a certain Mr Shankly did when he signed as a relativley lower league manager . And the Barcelona conection I must say I thought Swansea were possibly no certianly the best footballing side to come to Anfield last season and though it hurts to say it but were a lot better than our Liverpool of the day welcome Mr Rogers this is the platform your obvious talents deserve great read Sam Adzli jft96 thank you .

31 May 2012 15:05:01
It is total nonsense that Manchester s**tty will get Gaston Ramirez. No no no. Not happening. Why on earth do you people believe such b****cks? Ok who knows if there is interest, but why would he go to them? Yes he's more than capable but wouldn't he much rather be with peoples he's familiar with (suarez and Coates)... And wouldn't he want to go somewhere that he's guaranteed a start (Liverpool have no right winger...). Ramirez to LFC any day of the week!

31 May 2012 14:48:19
Not Liverpool related, but if you have time, go to the BBC website and read Dan Walker's article on Avram Grant. Powerful, heart-warming stuff.

31 May 2012 14:47:39
just like to say im happy about the apointment of rodgers at liverpool, his style of football is the kind of football i believe we should be playing. his style though means that we will need 3 creative midfielders that can pass and move. there is lucas who i believe will fit this system as he is key to breaking up oppositions attacks and setting of our own. he isnt the most creative midfielder though therefore the other two must be creative. we have steven gerrard who is the life and soul of liverpool football club and has been for some time, im not going to say we shouldnt play him because obvcourse we will but he is getting older and isnt the quickest player in the world. but anyway thats 2 of our 3 centra midfielders. so then whos the last one going to be ?? adam, spearing,shelvey adam can pass but he is known for his long diagnol balls which under rodgers arnt going to be needed. the other 2 are usseless in his style of play. i feel we need to get somebody that is technicly gifted, someone that is experianced can pass and move and has some killer balls in his locker to nlock opposition defences. so who can we buy. nobody!!!!!!!!!!! we already have him in aquilany (sorry bout spelling) but he holds all the key features rodgers style needs. what do you thinks edds and others?
tic tac toe {Ed001's Note - Shelvey is suited to this style of play, not sure how you figure out Gerrard is but he isn't? I also fail to see what you see in Aquilani, a player so lazy and fat he makes Cole look slim.}

31 May 2012 14:46:27
would just like to say i hope we dont sign Affellay .. He,s injury prone and would be looking for high enough wages .. no more wasters at our Club please

For the reported £6 million that he's available for I'd say for that he's worth a try, he's had one really bad injury. He's class and has the pace and power that would add to our squad.

Personally i wouldn't even risk it, that 6 mil could go to much better use.

31 May 2012 14:23:18
just wondering if the alleged turning down of steve clarkes resignation was that because brendan rodgers was the target from the start, and knowing that they had worked together before that he would want to stay?

31 May 2012 14:17:57
IF Brendan Rodgers would bring Sigurdsson to Liverpool, do you think he would fit in in a central midfield role with Lucas and Gerrard or? I haven't really seen him play, but watching highlights suggests he is quite similar to Gerrard.

They are both goal-scoring midfielder's; but in different ways. Gylfi Sigurdsson lacks any pace/power, but is very clever and technically superb.

He would be a good signing and one I'd welcome, but, the Ed's suggest that it wont happen, so not worth holding your breath over I'm afraid...

Joe Allen is one that seems more likely; I believe he's highly rated by LFC scouts, and with Rodgers at the helm it's quite possible. Also, he, along side Gerrard and Lucas, would offer more balance in midfield.

Stone YNWA.

Allen would be a great signing

Stevie G must HATE Gary Neville trying to tell him what to do in the England camp :) Wish Carra was there!

I thought they were mates.

DaveyBootle

I doubt Neville is telling Gerrard what to do. Get real.

Neville is only there to shine the boots and make the tea,s it more likely stevie telling him he wants 2 sugars in his morning brew lol

Why disagree? They are on good terms.

eds and whoever

if rodgers is our new manager and he gets the rumoured 25 million summer budget isnt it unrealistic to ask him to get champions league football if you consider there are 6 teams , (7 if you include everton but i m not) who are currently better than us and of these six
mancity and man united are miles ahead
chelsea look like spending heavily this summer on marin hazard hulk de bruyne and possibly van der wiel

which would leave us ina four way scrap for fourth place with arsenal spurs and newcastle
arsenal have already signed podolski, spurs look like strengtheneing with daimao and vertonhghen . okay newcastle might lose their top guns but they will still be there or therabouts

i think that the new owners having got their man ( and make no mistake rodgers is their man, kenny was the fans man, but rodgers is deifnately their man) should back him financially to the hilt to give hima real good chance at doing well at the club and to bring inthe players that suit his footballing philosophy and remove the ones that do not

100% Good text.

25 million AND money from sales

This is Whomever, and I wonder if it is really worth fussing about a rumored budget.

31 May 2012 14:28:27
Please tell me this is a bad dream. I dreamt that we have appointed Brendan Rodgers as our new manager. Surely this cannot happen.

Funnily enough I had a similar dream where the only two candidates for the job were Roberto Martinez and Brendan Rodgers. Surely this cant be true either.

31 May 2012 14:15:28
interesting rumours circulating that before dalglish was sacked a deal was in place to bring in theo walcott now he has gone it is believed that the deal has been dropped. so stupid! his pace is something we need. him and johnson on wings would be immense!

The only Johnson we have is a right back - unless of course BR intends to move him forward.

John B

He is another 'useless' English player, all pace and no finish.

31 May 2012 14:14:12
will steve clarke be kept on as assistant eds or will rodgers bring a new setup with him? i only ask this cause i know him and clarke have a good relationship from their chelsea days together? {Ed002's Note - Time will tell.}

31 May 2012 13:56:01
anyone have any idea who the three staff members rogers is bringing with him, cheers

He is set to be joined by Glen Driscoll, Chris Davies and Colin Pascoe

It's Glen Driscoll, Chris Davies and Colin Pascoe.

Tom.

Here you go mate....

BBC Sport's Ben Smith reports: "Three members of Swansea's backroom staff are understood to be joining Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool - first-team coach Colin Pascoe, match-analyst Chris Davies and conditioning expert Glen Driscoll."

sinner21

It's on the BBC Website

What does Glen Driscoll do cause he ain't on the staff list for swansea?

People are getting mixed up
one is a goalkeeping coach,i can't remember his name....

Compensation fee agreed, between Liverpool and Swansea for Brandan and 3 of his staff...

31 May 2012 13:43:46
Too many premature posters here...before Rodgers can sign anyone his appointment has to be fully agreed and ratified...something that is nowhere near agreement as yet as Swansea and LFC have significant differences of opinion upon the shape that agreement and compensation should take!

Obviously not that far away as its been done arent you a bit premature with the doom mongering.

31 May 2012 13:42:47
Just read on the bbc website in an interview woth mark lawrensen (excuse my spelling) that Rodgers will have to be responsible as there won't be a dof :s could you shed any light on the situation. Thanks

A reckon city are in for gaston ramires seen as they lost out on hazard! really gutted but hopefully we have other good options.
Also it was well documented that rodgers had a 5m compensation package agreed if he moved on so why the hold up eds? they holding for more or are we trying to give less?

SPARKY {Ed002's Note - It is a matter of negotiation.}

reds agree Rodgers! Welcome to the club and can't wait to see us playing beautiful football.

31 May 2012 14:11:25
Riena.
Johnson. Skrtel. Agger. Enrique.
Lucas.
Gerrard. Sigurdsson.
Suarez. Afellay.
Carroll.

Good looking team

unsure about affelay after his knee injury but was a good player , question is can he fully get over it, i d go for krasic for right wing instead personally, and probably moussa sissoko or javi martinezx to parnter lucas in midfield

Good choices...pretty simlar to mine.

not sure on carroll, i'd put suarez up there with bellers or new player (eg elm, ben arfa, even lavezzi) in luis's place.

although not messi (who is?), in BR's team he'd play a role similar to the wee little man up top.

sigurdsson, good player if we got him, what about hendo if not (play his natural CM role where he did well) or even go all out an get the master passer himself.... Alonso, an move lucas up alongside Stevie.

defence looks solid, overall we've got good solid foundations for BR to work with

sinner21

Krasic is pants, I'd prefer I brahim Affellay and/or Markel Susaeta any day of the week.

31 May 2012 14:09:12
hi guys

now that the managers position is all but sorted (crossing of the t's, dotting the i's..plus handing over a few quid!) we can talk about the team and how Brendan will implement his game plan.

my view is that if he can do what he did with the current swansea players then surely he can do that with a 'better' set of players, no disrespect to the swansea players. most of our team are internationals and have played at a higher level than them, so it goes without saying.

each player in each position IMO is better than their swansea counterparts. granted they beat us and drew at anfield but that had more to do with the set-up rather than just the players.

assuming all our players are at their peak/on form, my team from current squad would be: 4-3-3

reina
jonno, agger, skrtl, enrique
lucas
gerrard, hendo
downing, suarez, bellers

subs - carra, carroll, adam, shelvey, coates, kelly, robbo, sterling, suso, cole, kuyt, maxi,

back 4 picks itself, with reina playing the sweeper just as rodgers likes.
lucas is the 'controller' as rodgers likes to call it, he's got the ability to break play up and pick a pass (don't forget was a AMF before being converted by rafa) with Sg and hendo just infront left and right. all 3 very skilful, good at passing and can play the lfc/barca pass n move.

the front 3 are all fast, skillfull and fluid in their movements.

if i were to add to our current squad, it would be an alonso type as besides lucas, i don't think adam can do that role. if it were possible i'd get alonso back with sg and lucas just in front. that would be a near perfect midfield.

we also could do with i x amf, 1-2 fast wingers/awf and a striker.

dmf/controller - alonso, defour, leon britton

amf - rasmus elm

winger/ awf possibilities - affelay, boudebouz, munian, adam johnson, lavezzi, elia

striker - luuk de jong, cavani, soldado, darren bent, demba ba, papiss cisse

iknow some of these are really up there in the dream territory, but others wouldn't cost that much, relatively speaking.

granted we all want the best but i'd rather he spent £40m on 4 good players than the same amount on 1-2.

it all really depends on what/how FSG are going to back BR. he/they might want to make a statement of intentby signing a couple of top level players with a few good ones added in.

granted they spent heavily last season, some would say not so wisely, but much was recouped and i beleive the Nett outlay was £30m-ish.

if they could have a similar Nett outlay this close season, i believe he would buy better than KK/commolli did.

i do feel alittle for KK as he did try his best. point is last summer they went with the emotional aspect and unfortunately it didn't quite work. this time round they've gone with a longer term approach and for one like it.

i still find it hard to think we finished where we did as in most games we played some great football. but the dept where we were lacking was upfront as big andy didn't find his feet till it was too late. i still beleive if KK had bought a striker in Jan who could find the net from the chances we created, then it would have been a different story.

my biggest criticism was that KK didn't have a plan b at the times we struggled, and it was obvious.

in BR though we are getting a real student of the game, one who loves the whole barca way of things. and he will have 3 plans, not 1 or 2.

he is far superior tactically which is needed in the moderm game, and with this group of players plus a few additions, i really think, after a steady start, we will be a force to be reckoned with next season.

sinner21

Good post , personally i d like to see fsg back their man, their choice as boss to the tune of fifty million plus player sales so that he has a real chance at champions league qualification next season and a chance to bring his own players to the club to implement his style of play

SINNER21,are you serious,BR studies
BARCA and will have 3 plans not 1 or 2
BARCA have 1 plan and that is to out
pass the opposition,if that doesn't
work they just pass some more......

AUNTIE ANNIE....

31 May 2012 14:06:16
I think we should go for Diame Ramirez Munian and de Jong

Outs would be the obvious like aqua kuyt maxi possibly glen Johnson if we sign Isla

31 May 2012 14:05:04
Looks like Clarke is on his way out as Rodgers is taking 3 of swanseas back room staff with him.

I think Clarke will stay. I've read that Rodgers has back room staff for analysis of upcoming matches etc. so he may not be solely bringing coaches with him. Just a guess though

Best name for a new stadium

"The ACA Ground." Short,Sharp; original.

( Air China Anfield )

The whole point of naming rights is that they actually want their name to be used.

For the money they are going to pay they are Not going to want it abreviating are they or anfield in it are they

Respectfully, I wish people would stop looking for the 'new Alonso'. He was great for us but that's past and BR may not even play the formations that such a player would fit into. Alonso will always be remembered as a great but onwards and upwards...

B-Red

But every young player in English football is the new somebody. I bet there are a dozen "new Alan Shearers" running around. And even if a younster is less than superstar quality, he can still aspire to be something like the new Steve Guppy.

Hi Eds and Macca,

would it be possible to add a 'like' and 'dislike' button to the end of Eds and other users' comments/replies as I often get zero entertainment value or info from an initial OP but find myself in complete agreement with an Ed or other user replying. Just an idea. {Ed001's Note - it is something we have considered, I will see what we can do, just don't hold your breath, our to do list is huge.}

Today, I have a good feeling about LFCs future. I cant wait for tomorrows (assumed) press conference...

1) Brendon Rodgers introduced as Liverpools new manager with remit to create a youthful, attacking side

2) Pep Segura appointed Sporting Director, with an emphasis on promoting and scouting young talent. Promotion to first team squad also given to Rodolfo Borrell.

3) Air China introduced as appointed stadium partner with sponsorship valued at £350 million. At this stage, unsure if this is for a re-developed Anfield or New Build (your help please Macca!)

4) New Warrior kit launched, which looks like an LFC kit should..... intimadating

5) FSG to make statement of intent about winning to breed new confidence into all the doubters

Make a note Reds. I have a feeling that tomorrow will be a momentus day in our history....

Red G

Well said up the REDS!

Great news about the managerial role, good to see we've made progress finally and with a decent manager. The DoF I'm not sure we've chosen yet but I hope we get txiki but LVG is also a good candidate. If I were Rodgers or the DoF, I'd clear out maxi, kuyt, spearing, Pacheco, cole, aquilani, and either Adam or Henderson. I think Carroll is worth keeping and so is downing I mean I actually think they will come good. As for signings, Afellay, Gaston Ramirez, Diame, Luuk De Jong, Boudebouz, Soldado, Cavani, Lavezzi, Hulk, Belhanda, Moussa Sissoko, Elm should be all considered. Obviously deciding on what to actually buy is a different story and I wouldnt purchase all of them.

Afellay is a risk in terms of his injuries but talent wise he's brilliant. gaston Ramirez is an absolute gem! I would be shattered if he didn't come to us. I haven't seen much of Diame but he's been decent when I have seen him, feel sorry that he was almost about to sign until the sacking of KK. Luuk de Jong is a similar story but I hear the kid is something special so I will be paying close attention to him in the Euro. Boudebouz is a just like a new and improved yossi benayoun, but very quick, loads more skill and ability, all in all a good squad player like Benayoun once was. Soldado would be a great signings for us and would really put us in a the right direction, proven goal scorer but won't come on the cheap (roughly 20-25mill). The prospect of having Cavani and Suarez (and hopefully gaston Ramirez too) would be brilliant, but in all honesty, the owners would really need to flex and dig deep to persuade him to come to us, much like Lavezzi and Hulk. Both great players. Belhanda is a very talented kid, would add a lot of creativity in the midfield and would be a cheaper version of Hazard depending on whether he's played wide or in his normal CAM position. Moussa Sissoko is a very good player as well as Elm but if we were to get a Central player it would have to be one or the other. Moussa does have a versatile style of play and can play both wide and central whereas as elm is solid at what he does in the centre of park.

To be honest I would love all of them but we'd need o not a few of those to come to us so realistically I only expect about 3 of those players as some are realistic targets.

If I had to choose 3 of those? It would have to be Gaston Ramirez, Soldado and Belhanda but take your pick (hoping this gets posted!)

YNWA lads!

Hey eds, I know a lot has been asked about Steve Clarke, but what about Kevin Keen? Is he likely to be moved on? You would have to think his job would be under threat, particularly if Rodgers brings any of his staff members also?

Thankyou in advance.

DownUnderRed. {Ed001's Note - I expect him to go, but it will be Rodgers decision.}

Cheers for the quick reply mate. It wouldn't surprise me if he is moved on. Was he not brought in to work on our attack? Given our paltry goal return, I don't think I would be sad to see him go? Did you ever get a chance to find out if any of the players rated him ed?

eds, with regards to vilyian bijev, i know you've said that he'll need a work permit to play in the first team, but i read he has a bulgarian citizenship which i assume as he has a european citizenship, a work permit would not be necesarry, just wondering what your thoughts are on this

Hi Eds & Reds,

Halljeullah !! Compensation agreed.Welcome to Anfield Brendan. Now can people please get behind him. To all the Rafa fans, would you be calling for his head in November if it was going pear shaped?

I'm beginning to think it is the anti-Rafa posters who have the problem. I am/was a
Rafa fan but I welcome the appointment of our new manager Brendan Rodgers

31 May 2012 13:39:24
Brenden rogers is a poor choice fans and polls and fan votes all want rafa back if we wana attract big players big names then bring back rafa Benitez

Don't worry, I'm sure one of the 'top European clubs' that has been chasing Rafa for the last 18-months, according to his agent, will make a move for him any time soon.

They're just waiting for the right moment to pounce........

JRG

The only poor choice would be reading what you have written

Oh for petes sake stop it! Can't you Rafa-baters see that the club needs to move forward?!
I love Rafa, I've met him, he's a lovely guy with a lovely family but we can't keep dipping into the past, the club needs a fresh start and we are getting that with one of the best up and coming young coaches around.
All the top names rate him, Guardiola, Mourinho, Dalglish, amoungst others.
Get behind him and the team, you might be pleasently surprised!

We've got the Euros until July, with half the squad missing.
Then the Olympics, with no doubt several players going there (is Suarez representing Uruguay eds / anyone ?), and the qualifying stages of The Europa Cup. And the pre-season US Tour !
All coming up very quickly on the outside lane.
Talk about thrown in at the deep end.

Rodgers obviously will need some time to look at the current squad and decide what he needs to do.
Please, please can everyone give the lad some time.
It would be very nice if we did get off to a flyer but, in essence, the board has been wiped clean again - the third time in 2 years !
Hopefully this time with more lasting effect.

I have absolutely no idea who will come in / go. To be fair to everyone, Rodgers really has to give them a new chance.

I hope that (a) Fenway cut the man some slack ; we have to build and go again, in the style he desires. I don't know how this will impact upon the targets they set him for the new season (b) Rodgers & Fenway don't start blowing money on rushed, ill-advised last minute transfer deals, particularly to satisfy the supporters !
(c) For me, just leave him to get on with it this year. No shouting & booing, if we draw or lose a match. This man has to stick and he has to be allowed to do it in good time.

Let's have some good footy, show the team and BR our full support, and good luck to them.
I want to see BR still in a job at Liverpool in three years time, cos enough is enough now.

The Real KB {Ed002's Note - Suarez has made it clear he wishes to play in the Olympics.}

I totally agree KB, we need real stability and a chance to build something special again. We, the fans, must play our part. I'm fairly optimistic...

Hi All

The LFC website seems to be down maybe a big announcement

SSN are reporting there has been a hold up in the discussions with Rodgers.

Apparently we are unhappy with paying a compensation fee of 3-5 Million.

Compared to the likes of what Chelsea have spent on managers I would have thought this is peanuts...

If this is true and Rodgers was a priority target then it shows a lack of willingness to 'put their hands in their pockets' from the American owners in my opinion.

Perhaps they have come to their senses?

Any news on this ED's?

RobbehLFC. {Ed002's Note - Or maybe they simply wish to negotiate a better deal?}

As reported on Sly Sports News? I thought by now LFC supporters would know not to believe a single word that this biased network said.

Think about how much actual sports news there is on a normal day, in order to keep a news channel going they need to fill the gaps with lies or spread the s**t that little bit further.

Hope were looking at some of the players available in the prem that wouldnt cost the earth.Adam johnson is an absolute must,He is just not gucci enough for city but the guy is class! Dont throw a wobbly but Theo walcott as well,never be a winger as long as he has a hole in his arse,Why no one has thought to play the guy up front ill never know he could be another Mercenary glory hunting wan*er. er i mean micheal owen. Hoilet from blackburn has got massive potential,love to see him on the right and adam johnson on the left.James mcarthy from wigan reminds me a little of gerrard and would be a lot better cover for lucas than spearing.All are realistic signings in terms of fee and i believe would add some real depth to our squad.

Michael Owen could finish, Theo Walcott couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo.

Supporters need to be realistic with transfer spending now that the EUFA Financial Fair Play(FFP) rules are kicking in.
Participation in European competitions from 2014 to 2015 season will depend on a clubs accounts not registering a net loss of GBP39.4 over the seasons 2011-2012, 2012-2013 and 2013-2014.

Clearly FSG have already got this in focus they way they are tackling expenditure and incomeas well as setting up a long term strategy to build success. chopping and changing and recruiting high cost players will not work in the future. I am sure they were pissed at the recent large expenditure made in the transfer market with disappointing results.

Transfer activity will have to be shrewd for all clubs and one wonders how Chelsea in particular will meet these rules with such a huge investment in Hazard and others in tow.

Construction of a new stadium does not come under these rules by the way as i understand it. {Ed002's Note - You have over simplified the situation considerably - don't worry about the FFP rules just yet.}

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson believes the appointment of Brendan Rodgers as the Reds' new manager will be "the biggest gamble the football club has taken for a long time". - BBC site.

A profound gamble. At a time when the last thing that is needed, is a gamble.

All will become apparent about the middle of November.

The second a player wants to play elsewhere, regardless of who they are, let them go.

My replacement would be Michael Vorm, and thats not just because Rodgers is our new manager, I really rate the lad.

What about Muslera? Ed's if we were to be interested that's a huge IF .. Would you think he'd come given the chance of playing alongside Suarez and Coates? Cheers {Ed002's Note - As there is no interest the question cannot be answered.}

I dont really understand all this stadium and naming rights? I know its to do with money but why couldnt it still be called anfield? Will it be called china airlines if the deal is true? B

We will always call it Anfield no matter new build or new name. It is only for tv and newspaper reports that this matters

Puzzled

Why would a company pay millions for naming rights and leave it as 'Anfield'?
I like the sound of Air China Warrior Colosseum of Destruction or something catchy like that

Basically, its called advertisin, in this case subliminal messagin. People call it 'Air China Stadium' everytime someone says that, that company's name is bein spoken about and heard around, eventually, as is in human nature, people get nosey and start lookin at that company and usin them, earnin their money back from their 'investment' Hence why they make it say a '10 year deal' over that 10 years 'Air China' would hope to make a profit.

Carb

Yes but the point I was trying to make was that me and thee will not say 'we're off the the Air China Stadium' we'll still say we're going to Anfield...The official name will be just that 'official' ( a rose by any other name)

Puzzled

Definetly, its the same with St James Park, no one calls it Sports Direct Arena.
It will always be called Anfield.

to me, for the reported £3-£5m compensation being the reason for stalling wonder if FSG are trying to include some sort of player or staff agreement to be included?

Hi Ed's!

I know you're sick and tired of speculating reg a specific amount the new manager will get to buy new players this summer but my question is this. Do you think that the new manager will get more money than Kenny would have gotten to implement his kind of ideology if you get what I mean?

Just one quick question, why on earth are people STILL taking the slightest notice of what Sly Sports are saying? Surely as Liverpool fans you know anything owned by Murdoch (who i'm pretty sure is the devil) only purpose is to spew lies and make money out of it.

always a red

31 May 2012 12:18:09
There are a number of fairly cheap options available which I think are more likely targets considering our lack of CL football and the new financial fair play rules:
Sigurdsson - £7M
Elm - £6M-£8M
Ba - £7M release clause
Afelay - £6M-£7M

With a couple of departures this wouldn't represent much of an outlay at all, particularly if Cole, Aquilani and Kuyt are all coming off the wage bill.

31 May 2012 12:12:18
Just wondering if this was at all realistic? I know Rodgers likes the pass & move stuff, so he needs players that have the ability to relate it, also i'm delighted he's got the job.
Buy:
Raul Albiol - £8m
Diame - free
Hoilett - free (£5m compo)
Sigurddson - £7m
Dembele - £10m
Adam Johnson - £10m
Soldado - £20m

Sell: Jones 1m, Henderson 6m, Spearing 1m, Cole 2m, Aquilani 5m, Downing 6m, Adam 3m, Kuyt 2m, Carroll 10m.

First 11 (4-3-3) Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique, Sigurddson, Lucas, Dembele, Johnson, Soldado, Suarez.
Bench: Doni, Kelly, Albiol, Diame, Gerrard, Hoilett, Bellamy. Rest of Squad - Coates, Carragher, Robinson, Shelvey, Maxi, Suso, Sterling.

Big Mac the self admitted Manc supporter. But by search function you were saying we this and that as a LFC supporter recently too. Go away. Who where people expecting really?

Klopp 2 titles in a row why leave?

Guadiola can have his pick so unlikely.

FSG wanted a young manager so they got 1. He will be given time ( unless something major happens ) so this top 4 or he's gone is b****cks.

Hi Ed/Macca

Hope you are both well. I was just wondering who and what postions need improving and who you think they might buy?

I would like to see as a priority a holding midfilder of some qualitly to partner Gerrard. Who could we attract?

Thanks
Loz {Ed001's Note - you mean like Lucas? He would be my choice in central midfield. I think more of an issue is finding a replacement for Gerrard. But right wing and another striker are the priorities for me. No idea who will be bought right now.}

Rafa recognised, and Gerrard has proved admirably over the years, that Gerrard is not a central midfielder- headless chicken runs, Hollywood passes, defensive indiscipline and at times disgraceful tackler- witness Dalglish's first game back and even last week in Norway. He is at his best when unburdened of defensive responsibility and can rampage at will. The problem appears to be that he can't do this week-in-week-out anymore. So, as far the op's point is concerned, Gerrard is not the one we need a partner for, it is, as Ed says, Lucas.

Mrpjd

I would not count on Lucas being the player he was next season. I hope he can get back to that level but his injury was serious and it takes time to return from an ACL.

31 May 2012 12:08:00
Sky sports" if Brendan Rodgers is appointed there will be no DOF" He wants full control of transfers, which we all can see the sense in that

Hi Eds, a quick question, I have to admit I have seen little of Swansea last year, so don't know to much about Sigurdsson. Is he good enough to take LFC forward, should the interest be real and we get him? {Ed001's Note - he is certainly good enough to improve the team, he is also young enough to improve and progress. I would certainly not be upset if we got him, though he wouldn't be my personal choice.}

31 May 2012 11:56:34
hey eds, whats happening with rodgers at the moment? little confused {Ed001's Note - just waiting for the deal to be completed over compo.}

Hi eds,
Just wondering if Rogers does play a 4-3-3 formation, would
downing be pushed up abd suarez play at the right while big andy is the target man?
{Ed001's Note - you would have to ask him.}

31 May 2012 10:11:49
Eds how do you rate Sigurdsson as a player? Personally I think he is quality and can score goals which is what we need. I know it's impossible to say but judge pondering what you thought of him :) cheers {Ed001's Note - decent player, not sure he is top class, but he is certainly good enough to get in our midfield right now.}

31 May 2012 11:43:54
not so much a rumour just a wake up call to those fans who always bang on about Aquilani being brilliant and needing to be back in the team....does it not strike you as odd that if he is so good no Italian side are willing to pay more than £5million for him! He obviously is really average at best

He's an average player with a terrible attitude.

He is a good player! Just doesn't really fit into the LFC set up and doesn't like England. Italian teams are only saying £5 million to test our resolve. They know he's worth more than that. Trust me, the transfer fee won't reflect the boys ability.

He is not average ! He's worse than that! He is fat lazy and hasn't wanted to play for us the last two years... Let him F Off

Happy good day for all LFC fans.
Eds, just couple questions,

1)Gylfi only agree Swansea fee right? Medical still not done. So is it still possible for B.Rodgers to sign him for LFC?

2)Heard that Arsenal looking to sign Seydou Doumbia. Is he still under LFC radar? Might be good addition if bid to Soldado or Luuk de Jong fail.

3)Have the compensation fee been agreed btwn both parties? When will be press conference?

Thanks Eds.

Mumizia'LFC {Ed002's Note - (1) The transfer cannot complete until July 1 unless his loan deal carried a transfer clause - in which case it can be done now. (2) I don't know of interest from Liverpool. (3) No.}

31 May 2012 11:42:37
With Rodgers likely to be our next manager, we can to move on to the type of players that we are likely to sign. The best clubs in the league have had a head start on us and nearly all of them have signed a top quality player. I think that we need a creative midfielder as Gerrard is not getting younger, a pacey winger who can cross the ball and a good finisher/poacher. I think the appointment is a good one as Rodgers will be desperate to prove himself as he knows not all of the fans will accept him instantly so performing well in the transfer market and the league is a must. Damn! I'm already excited for the new season.
redl4fe

7 Players that I would sign (realistic)

1) Gaston Ramirez
2) Gylfi Signurdsson
3) Ibrahim Affellay
4) Markel Susaeta
5) Roberto Soldado
6) Luuk De Jong
7) Aly Cissokho

I don't know what some of our fans want, first they bleat "we don't have a manager or DoF, we are a joke". Then we appoint a young manager who certainly has knowledge and potential, they moan"Brendan who? I am not happy, we need a big name manager".
You moaners will NEVER be happy, so go support a team like Man City because you bore me!
Eds.... Have a word will you please! Lol

Hi All,

Just read a very interesting article by Andy Hunter on the Guardian Football website, titled "Liverpool's owners crave a fresh start"

It puts a number of things into perspective from the 2007 Champions League final to today and shows what a positive appointment Brendan Rodgers should turn out to be.

Reccommended reading for any Red.

Cheers

sky sports.
Compensation holds up Rodgers deal as Liverpool stall. However, it appears talks have hit a snag, with the Reds reluctant to pay a release fee reported to be in the region of £3-5million.

EDs do you guy think that FSG is confuse about who they want?

r-r {Ed002's Note - No.}

FSG are apparently willing to pay £5mill. Swansea want more.

Ozone

Sky report Liverpool are happy to pay £5 mil, but Swansea want more. £5 mil is in the contract Brendan signed... According to Sky!

Now that brendan rodgers is our manager, theres sonething i wanna ask.

The media says martinez turned us down because he wanted full power, n dont want to work under DoF

Macca says klopp first choice, then rodgers.

If the first 1 was right, then i dont think rodgers was first choice was he? Any1 know by now what truly happened? Just wanted to know who was before who. Not saying macca is wrong or anything, just asking.

I'm certain Mr. Whelan will inform us about the first point.

We get a new manager and all of a sudden people are linking all the top players with us. Get real, they will not come here, they want Champions League Football. Also, Rodgers is known for his short passing game - might as well get rid of Carroll now, not suited. Bad appointment.

It's people like you that get on my.....

Why don't you just give it a chance, believe it or not Carrol can actually pass the ball.

He also plays with wingers who cross the ball, do you not think Carrol could be a benefit?

We need diversity in our play and be able to change the play when things are not going to plan. Having Carrol will give us options, options that were not available to BR at Swansea.

Now go back to your dark room and think about something else to moan about!

Eds/Macca- Do you know if Louis Van Gaal is still under consideration for a role with the club? DOF now seems to be split into a number parts and people, but is an appointment likely?
Thanks

Eds can you tell me why loads of people on here seem to suggest BR will not be able to sign good players? With Van the man thats a stupid suggestion, but i think even without him BR has a great reputation as a coach/manager. Harry said last year the style of football he has adopted is fantastic and should shape how we move forward in this country with our national football, but also overseas he was really well respected, not only for his honesty but for passion and tactics

To be fair tho we have the same problem with Suarez

Shmickles {Ed001's Note - but Suarez has shown signs of learning, I think, with him, it was more because he was going through a barren spell and was desperate to score.}

So true, plus the amount of assists he has proves he can be a creator as well. I still remember how suarez decided to give the goal to gerrard n let him have his hattrick. What a sweet, sweet hattrick that is.

i believe we have to fill these positions :
left back --> baines/cissokho/kolarov
CM --> Elm/javi martinez/steven defour/fellaini/banega
CREATIVE playmaker --> take the risk and get any of these two please .. Pastore/ozil ( they may be unrealistic but im sure the transfer kitty will not be lessa than 50-60 millions plus players out , so why not try to get them? )
winger --> afellay/gaston ramirez/boudebouz/krasic/perotti/
backup striker --> giroud/luuk de jong

we are in a serious need for a CREATIVE playmaker so should we consider getting pastore/ozil( they're 10x hazard and mata ) , this would bring us to our glory days .. please relate ed

Why would Baines go to a lower team
Jab EFC

Why would baines go to a club that wins cups

31 May 2012 10:56:47
Hi ed, just wondering if this was at all realistic? I know Rodgers likes the pass & move stuff, so he needs players that have the ability to produce that, also i'm delighted he's got the job.
Buy:
Raul Albiol - £8m
Diame - free
Hoilett - free (£5m compo)
Sigurddson - £7m
Dembele - £10m
Adam Johnson - £10m
Soldado - £20m

Sell: Jones 1m, Henderson 7m, Spearing 1m, Cole 2m, Aquilani 5m, Downing 6m, Adam 4m, Kuyt 1m, Carroll 10m.

First 11 (4-3-3) Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique, Sigurddson, Lucas, Dembele, Johnson, Soldado, Suarez.
Bench: Doni, Kelly, Albiol, Diame, Gerrard, Hoilett, Bellamy. Rest of Squad - Coates, Carragher, Robinson, Shelvey, Maxi, Suso, Sterling. {Ed001's Note - how can we know what is realistic right now?}

You'd take a 25 million pound loss on two members of England's Euro 2012 squad?
Glad you didn't make FSGs short list !

31 May 2012 10:53:37
what is going on now we stalling over compensation 4 rodgers either good buisness men or plain stupid lol

Totaly agreed. FSG may have somthing on there mind whice they hide from press or they have no idea about football or how to deal with it.

How do you think the business side of football is any different to anyother sport including baseball and American football.

You say a number we say a number and eventually we say the same number come on what you think just because they want him theres no room for bartering you are all too impatient.
Finally the club is being run like a company every pound has its use and personally I am happy because for too long we have just been throwing it around trying to show off.

I read a short and sweet article that explains BR's philosophy of how he sets up his team, thought I'd share it for anyone who is still a little unsure of his work...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/9301301/Brendan-Rodgers-playing-philosophy-could-be-a-success-if-he-transfers-it-from-the-Liberty-Stadium-to-Liverpool.html

I do think that AC can fit in to his style of play, his first touch and passing is improving each game he plays and him being a nuisance around the defenders clears way for our (to be) forward pressing midfield.

A lot of positives to look forward to, and we haven't even signed anyone yet...

Welcome to LFC Mr Rodgers!

Though I am still a little speculative of FSG, I think appointing Rogers is a very good decision. He ticks all the boxes and has show the hunger for success. The setup of his team is also very balanced and relies more on the whole team performing than just certain individuals. I am really excited about LFC after almost a month.

Rogers inherits a decent squad which only requires 3-4 players. If we make the right transfers, we can be strong contenders for CL football.

People on these pages need to realize that our squad is small and we are also in europa this season so the likes of Spearing and Downing may come in handy. Maxi and Kuyt have aged and may look for regular football so their transfers are imminent. We should sell Aquilani, Joe Cole and Adam. Promoting youth and buying max 4 players should be enough.

Looking forward to sell all fans support Rogers and back the team.

The million dollar question is will the owners stump up to acquire the right players to complete the squad?

Been reading up on Brendan Rodgers and the more I read the more pleased I am that he took the job. He studied under Van Gaal at barca and the special one at chelsea and is also going to watch spain train this summer. Seems like he's a real student of the game and apparently also speaks two other languages, Jose also rates him highly so I think we may have got a bargain here, lets all keep our fingers crossed eh? On another point it looks like whelan is at it again saying Villa aren't a big club, does he realise that he owns Wigan?

He can also speak spanish fluently!

Now we have a new manager, lets work on getting back in the Champions League next season.

I won't accept anyone saying that will says it is going take a few years because we are so far behind Spurs, Arsenal & Newcastle.

We had a better defence and more shots on target than any of those mentioned. But lapse goalkeeping and our goal to chances ratio cost us.

The Truth is this team is good enough now, all its needs is Reina to regain some form, and the attack to score 10-15 more goals and we will right up there.

Dante

It would be great to get top 4 but i do not think (even if we do) that it will be a consistant spot we get. I say this as chelsea can spend spend spend, and while i hate Hazard he is very good, and should they grab Hulk, others are going to struggle. If Bale was to leave totters, then i think they would drop down the table. As for Arsenal i agree we should hopefully finish above them

Have it very close from my sources that brendan rodgers is going to have a 1 to 1 chat with maxi rodriguez regarding if he wants to stay now or not.he thinks he can convince him of more game time as brendan rodgers gameplay is well suited for maxi due to his decent passing ability. Not saying he will stay or anything but sure a chat will happen in upcoming days.

Now that the dust has settled (slightly) I'd just like to say fair play to Macca. When the media had written off Rodgers and made it seem impossible, and others started doubting, your info was spot on that FSG still had a strong preference for Rodgers. Cheers for your continued contribution to this site, its much appreciated.

So......whats next then?!? haha. Any whispers on the situation with the rest of the management structure. I feel it is strange to bring in the manager first?

31 May 2012 09:20:42
So i said that our new manager would be creative, imaginative, innovative and young. i Believe in Brendan Rodgers we have a man who holds all these skills and also has the potential to develop along with with club. Garry Monk (albeit not a world class player but a seasoned professional none the less) described Rodgers as the best manager he had ever worked under and that no two training sessions where the same. I think that speaks volumes for the man personally.

It is interesting to me that LFC seem to be following a CFC strategy to reinvent a club that has struggled to compete consistently at a top four level. It is also interesting that Jose Mourinho was an understudy to Louie Van Gaal and Brendan Rodgers was an understudy to Jose. When you look at Ranieri's (apologies for Spelling) time at Chelsea he bought British that never set the world alight but propelled the club into a position to attract a high calibre of player. To me this can be directly compared to what Dalglish has done by getting us Europa League football.

I whole heartedly believe Van Gaal will be appointed DoF and we should expect players with flair, pace, strength but more importantly than any other skill, technical ability!

LVG's teams of past have been resilient yet have the ability to carve open a team, JM's teams have been the same, look at Real Madrid now - Arbeloa is a regular because defensively he is solid. BR's has tried to install that at Swansea but lacked the funds to bring in a quality defensive line, something Liverpool do already posses.

Have Optimism LFC Fans, Have Belief, Have Passion and most of all Have Support.

Now it is known to everyone that Brendan Rodgers will be our manager. Then why the delay in announcing it on the official website? You said yesterday that everything is nailed on.

Are there any further obstacles?

Hey Eds.
With the possibility of Sigurdsson coming in (and i know it is still too early to tell)and Ramirez also a possibility up front i am hoping for a formation like this.....

Reina
Johnson Agger Skirtel Enrique
Lucas Gerrard
Sigurdsson Ramirez
Carroll Suarez

I think this will be our best team with Ramirez and Sigurdsson playing behind the 2 strikers.

Its only speculation but I think this team looks a lot better than we are able to field right now other than the fact that it provides limited width capability.

Of course, Brendon Rogers is a fan of the 4,2,3,1 which would mean Suarez may drop back to assist Ramirez and Sigurdsson if he wished to continue with that formation.

31 May 2012 09:05:44
NOW, we're going to be keeping plenty of possession for the years to come, so if i hear one more "Henderson passes backwards too often" i'm likely to flip my lid! We'll be(hopefully) passing the ball in every direction. Whatever we need to do to keep the bloody thing away from the opposition.

I am not a very happy Liverpool supporter this morning. Brendan who? I'm very sorry but this appointment does not excite me at all. One decent season in the premiership where Swansea finished below us and nothing to excite me about his previous managerial experience. I remember when we used to be a big club.

Who are you? is that you martinez?

B.R will do a good job if he is given time.

Finesse - Seychelles

But that is where we now are,sadly

What are you basing this opinion on? If it's just the league position then I think you ought to read up on him a bit more.

Do some research on him and you will be excited.

31 May 2012 09:03:46
You have got to question the futures of some of our players as Rodgers will look to implement a short, quick passing game. Namely Adam, Downing and Carroll (and maybe Henderson.) It will be interesting to see just how much of an overhaul he does as we look to adapt to another managers philosophy. I just hope we get some exciting, flair player in to give us something to look forward to this year.

I for one am quite pleased with the appointment. He has a good footballing mentality. Hopefully he will be wise in the transfer market too.

Hi edds
weather or not we think rodgers is the right man or not only time will tell. but if football was like the way it is now 50 odd years ago shankley would never have got the job. arsen wenger never got the arsenal job in the 90s or would alex fergerson. so we all need to give him a chance and get behind him. i just hope he does not bring lots of swansea players though some are good. and i hope he knows about players from abroad i am sure he does otherwise. he prob not be in football managerment.

good luck brandan rodgers YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE

31 May 2012 08:44:56
Hi Eds,
As we're going to change our philosophy and style of play after the new structure going to be implemented.[pass and move with keeping the ball possession].

Rodgers,Van Gaal/Begiristain,Borrell,all don't believe in long_balls_football.
Do you think that,this can mark the exit of some players who doesn't fit that style of play?;
EX:
Carroll,Adam and Downing,Spearing,etc...

Thanks. {Ed002's Note - You need to give it some time for the manager to assess the players.}

ed's i dont know much about how rodgers is as a manager, do you know if he likes to promote youth? eg, will he be looking to promote some of the younger players to the first team, or do you think he will be to concerned about getting results to take a risk on the young lads? i think it would be a shame to see the likes of coady not get a chance this year.

mellor {Ed001's Note - he does seem to, hard to tell if that was simply because he didn't have the funds to buy and had to use youth though. From what I am told it is his preference to give youngsters a chance though.}

There was an interview a couple of months back in which Rodgers runs through his footballing "education". He said he focused on barca and Ajax due to their commitment to integrating youth (also the reason why he didn't bother with Real). He used to fly over to Barcelona and watch all the teams from the kids upwards. His philosophy should fit well and I for one am pleased.

Good morning Ed's great site! Ed's i hear Rodgers is a nice guy that plays good football speaks 3 languages and likes bringing in youth but is he a stong character aswell that can give players the hairdryer and deal with media when needed?? {Ed001's Note - he managed to cope with a few big time attitudes at Swansea, I don't see that as an issue personally.}

31 May 2012 08:24:23
Morning Eds
I read that BR wants complete control of footballing matters so FSG may not appoint a DoF as they were desperate for BR.
Has either of you heard anything regarding this?

Cheers

MUSHROOM {Ed001's Note - the DoF role was already being split up, Ayre has taken on one area of the role already, so there was no true DoF being appointed anyway.}

So ed01 if ayre has moved to a different area will it mean tht dean will be MD {Ed001's Note - he was certainly asked to take that kind of role, no idea if Dein turned it down or not though.}

31 May 2012 08:23:33
To all of the 'Rodgers is a disaster idiots', how well do you think Pep would do with Swansea or Wigan given the same resources? In my opinion not that well, so give the guy a chance.

We might as well have appointed Roy Rodgers! Bad appointment.

31 May 2012 08:23:31
I'm pretty happy at the new appointment! Think BR is the right man for the job. I live just down the road from were he grew up and there's such a huge buzz about the place! There even saying it's the biggest appointment in Ireland's history. I know it's a bit early, but I must say I'm very excited for the new season!

Just like roy hodgson was the right man then kenny dogleash was the right man-dellusional kopites again

How about getting behind the manager rather than complaining? It's just a thought..

31 May 2012 08:16:11
Hi Eds,
with Rodgers coming in as Manager do you think this could change the current situation with Aquiliani? Would Rodgers be likely to keep him in your opinion?

Thanks x {Ed001's Note - it is not about that, Aquilani doesn't want to be in England, so it will be a case of whether or not we can find anyone to take him. One thing you have to give the lad credit for, despite his terrible attitude to training, at least he says the right thing to the media, so someone else might take a chance on him.}

Someone should say this to the press he is mockery of a player in football for nothing more but money i cant stand some of the likes of him they sign for clubs in england knowing it hasnt got the best weather but then come out moaning about it if you dont work hard in training and on the pitch big teams wont want you

31 May 2012 08:15:26
Ed, what do you reckon is more likely in terms of transfers - do you think Brendan Rodgers will buy foriegn talent i.e. Gaston Ramirez etc or do you think he will go for domestic players i.e. Wilfred Zaha?
Or is it all up to the sporting director of football? {Ed001's Note - no idea.}

31 May 2012 08:14:45
I think rodgers will have to finish top 6 minimm in first year to save his job

If we get rid of some of the dross like Spearing, Adam, Aquilani, Cole, Wilson and replace them with sone decent signings there is no reason why we can't finish top 6

Whats wrong with you lot? Top 4 is the target, this is the MINIMUM objective. If we finish a few points off then the owners will be moderately satisfied as long as we challenged. If we finish 6th and like 10 points off 4th then heads will roll again.

31 May 2012 07:57:20
Ed. Would you want Sinclair and dyer. I think they are overrated. {Ed001's Note - I wouldn't mind Dyer, wouldn't be first choice for me, but he would improve the squad. I wouldn't want Sinclair, he is too greedy on the ball for me, plus he has a bit of an attitude. But I would rather look elsewhere than sign either.}

31 May 2012 07:43:15
Free transfers 11

Gordon/P.Robinson

Boswinga-Cuellar-L.King-Taiwo/Figreua

Kalou - Hargeves-Diame - Hoillet

Drogba - Owen

Id take Hoilett as a squad member but you can keep the rest thanks

31 May 2012 07:27:16
Disgusted by the sacking of King Kenny, appalled by the length of time it took to find a successor, but now just relieved the club has a direction and a strategy.
Will of course give the new manager full support, 2 things the squad needs are confidence and belief. The fans play a part in that. I think we owe it to King Kenny to remember his mantra about all pulling in the same direction.I think our squad is as good as Spurs and Arsenal. A few tweaks and some hard graft on the training ground will see us back amongst the top 4.

Now I am supporting that Kenny should get one more year. Rodgers is a huge Gamble .

Appalled by the time is took to find a successor? What, 2 weeks? lol

Don't gamble, don't win.

31 May 2012 07:15:44
BR was not my 1st choice but I'm kind pd excited what will happen, this may be the opportunity to shift some deadwood players out and try some of the reserve players. What do you think ed?
Hendo.. {Ed001's Note - I am sure he will want to continue removing those high earners that aren't regulars. Hopefully he will give some of the kids a chance to shine as replacements.}

31 May 2012 06:56:16
macca on the money regarding brendan hope that shuts up them idiots who were spouting off well done mate.

31 May 2012 06:48:18
i really hope BR see the talent of jonjo shelvey and plays him abit, i have been fan of the kid since i saw hes debut for charlton and really rate him as one of the best midfield talents in the UK... Eds do u feel same, or am i way off?
{Ed001's Note - I think he has a lot of potential, we just need to make sure that we unlock it.}

I hope he gets rid of Spearing.

Spearing tries too hard at times. If he plays the simple passing game he can do a good job and would be a valuable squad player in my opinion. Play him in just the Derbies and we'll be laughin'.

Looks like Aquilani is thinking of staying at lfc if the new manager "Brendan Rodgers" has him in his plans and why not he is the most creative midfielder we own. he'd be like a new signing that costs nothing.

he said and i quote " Everyone should understand that if there is the basis for an agreement everyone should be happy (Implying what Milan are doing is wrong & he is not happy about it)

I'm waiting for the new coach to be appointed at Liverpool and for the reorganisation of the club

It is important that I make the right decision. It is important that I can CONTRIBUTE, can play well, and can regularly take part in the action"

he's better than Adam, Henderson, Shelvey, Spearing
he is our best passer in both creativity & range (and no Adam can't match him on that)
would suit most midfield set ups.
hes not injured and is ready to come back preseason and will start the season off better than when he came to lfc(out injured for months)

He doesn't want to play for our club or stay in the country FACT! So why do you still want him ? I would much rather get him off the wage bill and get some money for him to put into another player who actually wants to play for Liverpool.

Thankyou. I hope this shuts Ed001 up. He's always banging on about how aquilani doesnt want to be here. He had a long term injury then moved to a foreign country. He asked LFC if he could make his recovery in Italy and they said no. He was not happy about this hence his attitude in training.

It was an isolated incident. This does not mean he doesnt wana be here it just means he is a young guy who has just experienced a culture shock in another country and has a long term injury to contend with, he was struggling.

I cannot wait until next season when we see him in a liverpool shirt and Ed001 will look such a plank.

I hate when people just make assumptions. Isnt this why we hate the tabloids? You shouldnt assume things in life, get your facts straight first.

Aquilani has never said he didnt wanna be here, he has never even implied that he doesnt wanna be here, he has said numerous times he is happy to play for us, kenny has said he was happy to have him back and anyone connected to the club has said he has no problem coming back but yet people are making assumptions he dont wanna stay.

There is no reason why he would need to say "I am gonna wait and see who the next manager is first". Why would he say this if he doesnt wanna be here and has no intention of coming back?

Ed001 jars me so much because he always thinks he's right and wont take on board anything else from nobody, he bangs on about aquilani not wanting to be here and then everyone just takes this as fact when its nonsense.

Aquilani played up and faked injury so he didnt have to train...this was because we didnt allow him to recover in italy like he wanted to. Its no excuse but I can understand a 25 year old guy who has a long term serious injury who's just moved to a foreign country wanting to go home for a bit to recover.

Ed001 lets say your boss pisses you off at work and you pretend you're sick and take the day off. The next day your boss finds out you werent sick and tries to get you removed from the company. Does it necessarily mean you dont want to work for that company? No it doesnt.

People call sickies every single day at work. People have attitude and cant be asked with work everyday but it doesnt always mean they dont want to work for that company. They are just having a bad day or going through stress or difficulties at the time.

Just accept you dont really know what Aquilani wants because if he does return and play next year you will look such an person mate. {Ed001's Note - grow up, nothing in this proves anything I have said wrong and you are just sounding like a knob. He doesn't want to be here, so what if he says the right thing to the media? If he ends up playing for us next season, it is purely because no one else will take him. Doesn't prove anything I have said wrong, but your whole post shows what a bitter person you are. How desperate must you be to take pleasure in such a meaningless soundbite? Sad life you must lead.}

This is exactly what im talkin about with you. As soon I someone with more than 2 brain cells questions your opinions you try to discredit them by calling them a "knob" or "childish".

Why dont you disprove what i have said, you know, like you would have to do in a court of law?

Why dont you give me something that I cannot possibly dispute that implies Aquilani wants to leave?

You cant and thats why you resort to name calling.

You have made yourself look a fool, again. {Ed001's Note - you came in and belittled what I had said, with nothing to suggest that you had any reasoning, just a pathetic need to show you know better. The only fool is you. Please give it a rest, you are proving nothing. Typical nameless obsessive with nothing to offer bar whines, whinges and bitches about stuff you know nothing about. Please don't hurry back.}

Ed01, I have to agree with much of his post apart from the contempt he directed at you which was unnecessary.

But like many others I feel Aquilani is a very good player, who has a lot to offer Liverpool, not least of which is competition for places.

His remarks suggest to me that he realizes he is being "used" as a "cheap" option and they don't value his worth (so to speak). And with all the controversy surrounding match fixing in Italy, maybe he feels a little ashamed about it an doesn't want to be apart of it.

Can I ask of your opinion of the player? And if you think it's possible he's had a U-turn and does now accept he's a Liverpool player and wants to play for us?

Thx Ed.

Hi eds just to say i am gutted we have appointed Rodgers as manager i truely believe he will not be good enough. But i will give him a chance all the same.

I just hope the appointment of Rodgers can satisfy the likes of Gerrard and Carra and also Pepe as surely not so much the 1st 2 but we really need to keep hold of Pepe, but i have that stupid feeling in my gut he will say bye to us and head off to warmer climate( spain) i believe and possibly Athletic Madrid. But my Question to the eds is if Pepe does decide to leave what valuation would be put on his head as to me he is undoubtedly 1 of the best keepers in the world so im thinking we have to be looking in the region of 20-25m, and who would be available as his likely replacement?

we need to invest in a few players

Ramirez
Elm
2x wingers
Soldado

as i also believe that Suarez is history at our club.

Midland Red {Ed001's Note - I don't see why we have to let Pepe go because Rodgers has become the new manager.}

Stopped reading when you mentioned gutted, not good enough and give him a chance in the same line

hi macca, any news on dof?

31 May 2012 06:16:26
Even though I was a devout supporter of Kenny Dalglish while he was manager and believe he should have been given another season......there's something refreshing about the choice of Brendan Rodgers.

The old guard can moan about the loss of the Liverpool Way and the ex-players can come out and complain that we are not adhering to the philosophy of Paisley and Shankly, but that tradition was probably Kenny's ultimate downfall: a British spine with a tall centre-forward; a patient approach to attacking; a revamped boot-room - it was easy to celebrate these aspects when Kenny first came back if you were around during the glory years of the 70s/80s.

Whether Kenny would have ultimately succeeded or not with his approach is a moot point but, despite mourning who is probably the last of that era to be meaningfully employed at LFC, there is now the opportunity to create a whole new era of success at Liverpool free from the weighty shackles of history.

Brendan Rodgers is a modern, progressive manager schooled at home and in Europe under the tutelage of experienced European managers. FSG are a business who are renowned for investing responsibly and then ruthlessly demanding a return on that investment. With the right company structure, the right staff, a couple of tweaks to the team and a sh*tload of support from every Liverpool FC supporter...Brendan Rogers has every chance possible of being a highly successful manager.

Let's back him to the hilt - win, lose or draw - and see what he can deliver with the best fans in the world in his corner.

cozinoz

Cozinoz,

Supported. Looking forward as part of the greatest fan base in the world to support a young and ambitious coach.

And Cozinoz it's been a while sir.

Regards,
O'seunfunmi (Anfield Red)

There is a fantastic article on tomkinstimes.com titled 'is this the new liverpool way?' i highly recommend.

For the first time cozinoz, I agree with you.

Ash

FSG are so confident n Rogers they gave him a two year contract (so much for the 10 year plan for the new manager, a reason put forward for the sacking of Kenny, that being Kenny was too old for the 10 year plan)

Kenny only need time, one year was not long enough after the problems that had built up in the club over the previous 20 years.

I wish Rogers well (don't want him as manager personally) but hope FSG give him time to do what a new manager must do, however I fear Rogers will be looking for a new position next summer and it may be no fault of Rogers making, as FSG clearly don't understand football.

Short term contracts signify little trust and give the manager little time to build FSG are clearly looking for the magic bullet manager to cure all in one season, its doubful this manager exists unless he has an unlimited transfer Kitty and an uncapped wage structure.

Sacking the King for Rogers does not seem like a great idea, are FSG convined?

The Anfield Cat Psychic

Quality post cozinoz, lets get behind the new manager and support him all the way. I believe he will make some shrewd signings in the summer and who knows, we could have an unbeaten season (sorry guys, I'm a little high on optimism lol)
RedSox69

Great post cozinoz.
I am one of the "old guard" and I know what you mean about the Liverpool Way (as it was). Let's be honest though ,that" Liverpool way" hasn't been much apparent for years now, and us oldies were hoping for Kenny to turn back the clock.
So I welcome wholeheartedly our new coach who will bring a fresh approach and hopefully his own modern "Liverpool Way"
I loved Kenny as a player and a manager and I was initially gutted and disappointed by his sacking. But, there needs to be progress and this man from what I've read seems to be a brilliant choice to help us get back where we belong.
Good luck Brendan, and I hope our fans get right behind you.

The best thing about a system like the one that Rodgers plays, is that there is no real pressure on any player in particular, the workload is shared, as is the possession and all that jazz. Every player is given a job to do, and they all do it. Read that interview with Barnsey a week or two ago, read his comments on players like Seydou Keita, and how they wouldn't look spectacular at any other club, but work well at Barca. so expect players that will fit the style of play, and not the ego's of supporters. I would very much like to see Afellay here by the way, some rumours you just pray are true...

Very very happy with the appointment of Rodgers(good call Macca). I made it clear that of the 3 real candidates, Rodgers was my number 1, so very happy.
Now it will take a little bit of time for these players to get used to a style of play like this, but with a few players coming in i can see that as a big head start for some of the existing players.
To be honest, it's a perfect fit for Brendan aswell. Not only does he have the exact footballing philosophy that a club can build a successful future on, but he now has the resources to have the players he wants to fit into that philosophy.
So all in all, i'm stoked at this appointment!

The first thing Rodgers should do is show the Liverpool players an all Ireland final, should it be Gaelic or hurling just to show players what it actually means to want to play for the shirt!! No money enveolved just pure passion!!

Very true, and i'm not even irish.

Nothing particularly special attraction either GAA sport. There isn't any huge amount of skill involved, its just physical and hectic. In fact footballers would just get bored at one of those games

For those writing Andy Carroll's obituary after the expected announcement of Rodgers as our new manager, here's what the man himself said about Carroll:

Brendan Rodgers was praiseful of Andy Carroll as he believes the striker is hitting form and confidence at last following his move

"I thought Liverpool were excellent in midweek and Andy Carroll was really impressive" said Rodgers in today's Wales on Sunday"

"It shows it's a totally different pressure when you play for a big club like Liverpool. You are expected to win every single game and it was new for him"

"The adaptation takes time and forget about the football, it was a life change"

"He was bought for the long term. He didn't put the price tag on his head. He's a young kid who I have seen come through the England ranks. It was always going to take time"

"But we are starting to see the first real performances that you think he can go on and become a really fantastic player for Liverpool.

"He looked lean, mobile and great in his physicality the other night and his touch was good.

"He got a boost from his cameo in the FA Cup final and he'll be coming here to do well.

JRG

He was talking up a player who his team were playing against in their next match. No manager puts a player down before they play against them, that would just be like doing the other managers team talk for him.
If I remember correctly he managed to get his team to keep Carroll pretty quiet on the night so his comments, I suggest, do not necessarily reflect how much he actually rates him

Already shows brendan does not know much about andy carroll .

Doesnt mean anything at all. The fact remains that carroll doesnt suit pass and move football, and a couple of decent games at the end of the season to get himself in the England squad, doesnt mean he will keep it up next season. Honestly I am expecting another 4 goal PL season from him.

Steve

OR,
Maybe he realises Carroll's strengths and hence he managed to stop any supply to Carroll which allows him to be dangerous ? He will now find a way to ensure Carroll gets supply.

With Brendan Rogers coming in and bringing his style of football he are my thoughts on possible transfer dealings..
Reina to stay with Johnson, Agger Skrtel and Enrique as the back four, with Jack Robinson and Martin Kelly and Seb Coates as back up. (Carragher poss player coach)

Gerrard, Lucas, Spearing, Joe Cole, Jordan Henderson, and if 15-18m cant be raised Stewart Downing to stay. Think the youth of Sterling, Suso and Pacheco will be brought through this year aswell.

Dirk Kuyt and Charlie Adam to go. Dont think they have the legs for pass and move football. Aqualani is a cert to be off.

Suarez, Carroll and Bellamy will all stay. With a possible 4th striker brought in if the youth dont come good. Wouldnt be surprised to see Owen be asked to come back. (just because he is on a free, and personally feel Gerrard and Carragher will push for it)

Think BR will look to bring in a winger for either flank and a possible 4th striker? Do genuinely think the base of the squad is good enough.

Squad we have is only good for mid table and good cup runs ,we need at least two may be three star establised players who can lift us and then we can introduce the best of the youth players.red mick tag

Owen? Are you having a giraffe?

I'd rather see bin laden in a red shirt than that tw@t

Siggle

You want to keep Spearing??!!

Forget spearing. The lad isn't good enough

It was fine until you mentioned Owen!

Downing and Adam will stay mate, and they will be assets to the club too. A manager focusing on working with the ball... they'll be sweet.

For god's sake, Owen is finished as a top level footballer, so is Carragher. I hate to say it Gerrard is on a real decline as well.

Steve

NO

The Depth of the squad is not good enough

Gerrard and Carragher may not be here next season, Rodgers will see that these two have too much to say on what goes on at the club, both have been fantastic for us but it's time they had their influence with other team members knocked back, they both remind me of school bullies who will come a cropper with "the new boy"

Brendan we are all behind you, show us your mettle.

Big Bill

Its a game of opinions, but I dissagree with a few therories here...

I think he will get rid of Enrique, Spearing, Maxi, Cole, Downing and definately Kuyt, who's first touch is nowhere near good enough for Rodgers style of play. I think Adam will stay.

As for Michael Owen, the worst thing Rodgers could do as a new man coming in would be to show that he is prepared to take orders from Stevie G and Carra! Owen is washed up. He will play for a low to mid-table side based in the North West (its not hard to guess!)

As for Aquilani, there may be a place for him yet! Of all our midfielders (SG apart), he is the most suited to our assumed new style of play. Could be as good as a new signing, if he has the hunger to prove himself that is which is questionable I know.

RG

31 May 2012 03:04:38
Ambition thats all. If Rodgers has the kind of ambition I imagine he does (he did take the job at liverpool) then he will strive for the best and I expect he won't accept anything less cause he want's to succeed as much as you and I do. He put his career on the line coming to liverpool because it could make or break his career. Give him some support and who knows what he will do for us next season.

Andykop

I agree.

With Kenny, there was an air of "been there, done that", leading to the "back me or sack me" face-off with the owners.

That is the downside of hiring someone who has been successful before. Complacence and an attitude.

With a Rodgers, you get someone with something to prove. Typically the better choice when hiring.

His biggest problem will be in convincing the sort of targets that Rafa or Kenny could attract to the club, that he is a credible coach.......I think he will find it difficult in this window, particularly if the likes of Reina, Skrtel, Agger and Suarez, decide that they aren't prepared to hang around for Brendan Rodgers. - a risky appointment ( and before you all start, I am a fan for over 40 years so have seen the great and the bad times and will continue to support, but I reckon i have put enough money into the Anfield coffers to be entitled to a valid opinion !) which FSG have made with a man who they have appointed on the back of one decent season at Swansea (sacked by Wolves and Reading in past 3 years!), and Swansea still finished 4 places below Liverpool......I fear a rocky road ahead for Brenda !

So you suggest Kenny thought he was bigger than the club?? get real!

Scouse 179

I agree with the original post. the first reply is idiotic.

How can an unkown entity be a better choice then someone who has done it all?

Hey Eds, excited about BRs appointment, could turn out to be real find. Would love this to happen:
Ins:
Sigurdsson- £7m
Elm- £10m
De Jong- £12-15m
2 good wingers- any of Boudabouz//Belhanda/A.Johnson/Susaeta/G.Ramirez

Outs:
Spearing(Not good enough for LFC)- £2-3m
Aquilani- £4m
Kuyt- £3m
Adam- £5m
Downing- £7-9m
Maxi(Would like him to stay but prob wont happen)- £2m
Shelvey- loan until christmas
Robinson- loan until christmas

Promote Sterling and suso to first team and let the young guys have a go. With this we would get close to champions league and hopefully the season after with another few shrewd buys LFC will return to big time.
YNWA
{Ed016's Note - Not un-realistic. But I dont think Sigurdsson will be coming}

Keep shelvey!

Elm would dead set kill in under Rodgers, as would Susaeta

People are too worked up about how much of a "transfer kitty" we will have. Like has been pointed out thats not exactly how it works. Plus we aren't going to fix all of our problems in one summer anyway by signing 8 players and filling every hole. Obviously we need to make improvements but a quick fix one year spending spree isn;t the answer. It seems to me what we need more than anything is attacking players. The kind of players who opposing managers lay in their beds at night worrying about. We have one player like that now, Luis Suarez. We need to add about 3 of them. Can they all be added in one transfer season? Probably not. To me though we need to make one impact signing this summer. Now with no Champs League it may be difficult to do this, but thats what we need. If we add another dynamic player to play with Suarez then some of the other players can fit more comfortably into roles. {Ed016's Note - No one would have guessed that they would have spent so much last year. Remember financial fair play is kicking in. Chelsea and City have already been told to watch their wages.}

City are safe, just up their Etihad sponsorship to 5bil and they're sorted.

31 May 2012 02:43:53
Hi eds. Do you think Pacheco would suit Rodgers style? Is it more likely that he comes back now, with Brendan in charge?

Cheers. {Ed016's Note - Pacheco is lazy and has a low work ethic. The youth staff have this well documented. Pacheco will not play in the red shirt again.}

Rodgers style, although based around ballwork, depends on good engines(iniesta, xavi and villa), they may look as though they're not doing a great deal, but pass and move is quite tiring. The "move" in pass and move is the key here. Pacheco is not cut out for that... Suso is! yay!

Now we can move onto transfers finally. For me I'm hoping we aquire the following (one or two long shots admitted).

1. Affelay. Can be bought for as little as 6 million. Great young player who is available if can be convinced. Appointing Van Gaal would be a bonus here.

2.Lavezzi. Massive long shot but a great player who's at a club also without CL football currently. If there is anyone we break the bank for I hope it's him.

3. Defour. Classy centre mid, Belgium international for years but still young. Think he could be bought for a fee of say 10-12 million. Future world star for me.

4. Elm. The more I see of this player the more I like him. Has a touch of Xabi about his play and would be excellent in the centre midfield role. He would not cost a fee in the region of 15-20, so for me is a must at about 10-12.

If we're really lucky they might take Adam in the deal. Joking.....

5. Ocampos. Very direct, strong and fast right winger. Still young but tipped for big things. He's got bags of skill and would be great in the prem. sticking point would be his fee of roughly 25-30 million. Fee maybe too high to risk on a youngster from S. America.

6. Vertonghen. I only included him as a replacement for either of Agger or Skrtle leaving (which I don't want to happen). Great centre half who is being looked at by spurs but still think we could persuade him with having a former team mate at Anfield. Roughly cost 10-12 million.

7. Munian. Brilliant prospect we've all seen him for Bilboa, and we all think he'd be a good buy. We sadly lack width and creativity and with Munian and the above wide men we would certainly have strength in depth.

Again the fee would be high (roughly 20-25 million) but I do hope we pull this one off.

I obviously know we won't get all these mainly due to fees and no CL but a combination of the above is viable.

Despite my obvious frustration and disappointment at the sacking of Kenny, and furthermore my desire to see Rafa back for unfinished business, I'm relatively pleased.

I don't have any of the misgivings I had when hodgson was appointed.

I know enough about the game, the world game, and have read enough about Brendan Rodgers to know that we have a clear picture again.

He is like a young Rafa. Valencia Rafa. I'm excited by what could happen.

Also, sonehow I feel as though he will at least look at the players we need.

Banega, Hoilett, Dembele and Zarate.

I'm genuinely excited about Brendan Rodgers being given the job and I actually believe that in 2 or 3 years we could be raising the Premier League trophy for the first time in a very long time. I think that the haters who are already slagging him off should get used to him being here, because I get the feeling that Brendan Rodgers could be here for a very very long time.
Welcome home Brendan.

I can't help but notice the change in spirit about the news of Brendan Rodgers in contrast to that of Roberto Martinez

That's because Rodgers has a 20% higher win percentage than martinez

It is interesting. I think it is because Martinez is always associated with fighting relegation. Not a "good look", as they say in the fashion world.

Ed 22 you are my favourite ed first of all. Secondly I was reading your profile on soldado and you see to rate him highly, I was wondering why then he's not in the Spain squad and is below Torres and negredo? Also would this affect his price tag? Thanks in advance {Ed005's Note - Ed022 isn't here to answer however I would cite a lack of experience as the reason Soldado didn't get in - I don't think it will make a difference to his price-tag.}

Soldado really needs another blinding season to have everybody convinced, he sort of came from nowhere and into this form, if he can continue it even when defenders now know him a little better, then he'll have all us spanish football fans praising him. But i do agree that so far he's been brilliant.

Question for the eds,

Will Steve Clarke stay on as assistant manager or do you think Brendan Rodgers will bring his back room team with him? {Ed016's Note - I think that Clarke is going to stay}

hi macca,

i said i best post and say well done i came on here and questioned what you really new about the manager position last week and you never threw anything back you just posted what you new

you stuck your neck on the line for rodgers and have been proved right

thanks for taking the time out to provide us with this great information.Its really great to know that its real information because the amount of poor rumour and poor media is awful. well done

Cheers

30 May 2012 23:15:25
Macca / eds, what do the players think about the appointment of Rodgers? {Ed016's Note - I'm still watching swansea games and listening to interviews with him and trying to find out information. But from what I have seen I am pretty happy. The way he talks about the game he seems very passionate and has a vast amount of experience while coaching in Europe. Was very highly rated by Chelsea and worked under Mourinho.

When you look at where Swansea finished last year, well that is a brilliant achievement. To come up and in your first season be plauded for playing beautiful football and finishing only 3 places off of where Liverpool finished actually only 5 points away after Liverpool invested HEAVILY into a new squad, well you have to scratch your head and wonder what Rogers could have done with that sized transfer kitty.

I hope the fans can really get behind him. We just nabbed one of the best young managers in the world.}

I'm optimistic about Brendan, I think he will have the vision we need to really push forward with some fresh ideas and football style. Mark my words we will be called the Barcelona of England in a few years, assuming he is not sacked in his first season while he transitions.

This also shows that Fsg also have a vision, I'm still miffed that they have been heavily criticised and their motives brought into question. Especially considering they bankrolled 120m recently, oh well, can't pick your fans.

Looking forward now to the transfer speculation and who we ultimately target. Our weaknesses in the squad are well documented, but will Brendan think the same way? time will tell, its going to be an interesting few months.

Hi Eds, just passing on what ive been told, my Uncle works for the council and has been informed that Coca Cola has invested millions in to the new stadium, and buliding is meant to start soon, Coca Cola do however want the ground name to mention Coca Cola in it - maybe the Coca Cola Arena
Red Rob

Im sure its a joint venture with Coca-Cola AND China Air. The new stadium will be the American Coca-Cola And China Air Challenge Arena.....or ACCACACA for short

Or.

But he'll surely have the same obligation to the players he buys.

Ed, I think that hiring Breden Rodgers as new LFC manager is very big gamble! He doesn't have the experience to mange a big club like Liverpool. Hope that he will sail the ship to the safe harbour!

I think that we needed a very experienced manager, we cannot afford any more experiments! {Ed001's Note - any manager would be a gamble.}

31 May 2012 00:35:01
If the appointment of Rodgers is true then let's show him he is backed 100%. He will have a tough season ahead and some unrealistic expectations thrust on him by the media and ex-players but if he is allowed to implement his style of football, other teams are in for a right Rodgering. Liverpool fans have the reputation of being true supporters of the club, players and staff so let's get behind him in every game and give him the best possible chance of success. If we all pull in the same direction we can create miracles.
Thanks to the Eds and Macca for info over the past few weeks.

So Ed001, I noticed your not a fan of Martinez, O'neill or Rodgers. I saw your reasons for the first two just wondering what your reservations are with Rodgers?

Dmedly {Ed001's Note - because I think he is almost the same as Borrell, who would have saved us having to pay compo. As a coach or manager I don't have any real reservation about him, other than him being untested at the top. I do fear the fans might not get behind him too, which also wouldn't have been a problem for Borrell I believe. Ability wise though, I think he is a good choice.}

Ed do you reckon they even considered Borrell?

dmedly {Ed016's Note - Keep him where he is doing a brilliant job already}

I'd hate to see us force Borrell out of the academy set-up, i think it's better to have 2 minds like that around the club, it'll only be a few years before we really see the payoff from this academy, so keep Borrell there if he's willing.

Red7.

How do you know hes doing a brilliant job? did he win the youth league or something ive never even heard of him till all trhe eds kept mentiong him
joshster {Ed001's Note - then you have not been watching how the kids get on. Hardly difficult these days to follow with the club having its own TV channel showing U18s and reserve games!}

Agree with you Red7. Maybe in a couple of years he could work along side Rodgers? Just a thought..

Sam Adzii JFT96

Ed1, maybe Borrell didn't want the job in the first place, I'm sure if he did he would have made it known to the owners.

Slimboy

Cost money mate something thats in short supply ed001 so did they win the league? btw what about any of the staff they any good?
joshster {Ed001's Note - the Liverpool channel is free and there are plentiful updates available freely on the Liverpool official site to keep up with their progress. I take it you are not a follower of youth football, winning a league is irrelevant, it is all about producing players for the first team. The staff are the same ones that set up the Barca academy, Borrell becoming available after he was upset on being passed over for the Barca head coach role in favour of Pep Guardiola.}

Well I blame the Media Generation. The spelling on this site is awful and the grammar is non-existent. Now the media luvvies have fallen for a pub team manager by the name of Rodgers. Has Brentford missed out ?
It is really rather pathetic.
Who is FSG anyway ? Pity Brian Clough is no longer around to tell them what's what.
Sad to see a great team go down.
Because that is what will happen.
The last one to leave, please turn out the lights.

What about poor punctuation?
Numpty.

Redjinal {Ed016's Note - Any "fans" complaining are thickle fans. Fair weather fans. I am personally excited, we are going for something new. How often did those massive managerial names work out for Chelsea? How many "world class" managers fell by the wayside. Just because people who know nothing of football only heard his name for the first time this season are worried doesn't mean a thing. He has a great resume coaching all over Europe and took Swansea to a fantastic position considering his budget...transfers and WAGES being an important note. You mention Clough...well where the hell was Clough given his first chance? I'm not too sure but I bet they were glad they did. People may compare to Roy and that is stupid. Roy played negative horrible football where as Rogers plays a very Barca style. Should fit well with the new DOF as well}

I don't understand; when did we interview Rodgers? Did we interview him? I'm very excited about the appointment, I haven't hid my disappointment at Kenny's sacking but it's hard not to get excited about such a young manager with a great footballing philosophy.

With no dof to be appointed hiring Brenden Rodgers as our next manager is a massive step backwards for LFC. Mid-table will be the highest the team will be able to achieve for many more seasons to come. Sad really but true. Rodgers hasnt the ability to bring champions league football back to anfield or the managerial profile to attract top players to the club.

And you know this for a fact? Can you tell me the lotto numbers then while you're so confidently able to predict the future?

Ridiculous statement that Rodger's 'hasn't the ability to bring champions league football' back to LFC. The underlying theme seems to be that someone else could. Did we get CL in Rafa's last season? How about under Kenny?

Younes Belhanda, (AM/Midfielder/Winger) 22 - £15m

Ryad Boudebouz, (RM/Winger/AM) 22 - £10m

Nicolas Lodeiro, (AM/Winger) 23 - free

Already the player negotiations have been put into Ayre's hands, so that is one major part of the role taken away. I expect Segura to get a promotion, to take a lot of the rest of the DoF role. I don't see that it matters who the manager is, the club should be able to sell itself to a prospective player.}
