Terminator

I do like Spearing as a player but unfortunately he is behind lucas in the pecking order who for me is the best defensive midfielder in the prem.

Also i think maxi is just a squad player now behind downing and bellamy.

Mighty reds

Spearing's ok. A squad player but not regular for the first 11. I don't think Maxi is even a squad player, anymore. I'd wouldn't be bothered if he went.

Im sure you were out of your seat when he put those two hatricks in, it takes a class player to do that and considering he could have jumped ship like te other rats, he showed his loyalty for this club and stayed and every time he plays he plays his heart out and you defo dont hear him moaning in the press like some pre madonas, anyway you may be glad to see him go but thats cos you know nothing of the meaning of loyalty and integrity which is something maxi has in abundance, id take him as a squad player any day.

TOMMY C

Mighty Red
Thanks for ur reply.. At the moment downing looks unconfident and not accurate... I would start him if he shows that he is still the player he was for aston villa...if he doesnt show up, its maxi anyday for me....the way he links up with suarez is quite awesome...

Terminator

Tommy C,
I wonder how many offers Maxi got to jump ship. Not many, if any at all, that would be worth him leaving Liverpool. I mean, we got him on a free. So, I would question his loyalty; to the club, anyway.
His two hat tricks were good to watch but hardly the stuff of legends.

Hey guys....i personally think spearing should be given a run against swansea and maxi should replace downing....midfield could look something like this...hendo-spearing-lucas- maxi.....and fwd will be luis suarez and carroll.....talking of defence, agger and skrtel should start in the middle but i dont understand why people are going crazy with their partnership...they were not really tested in the game as our midfield dominated the play...(not saying they are not good enough but they havent still proved otherwise)....opinions and criticisms are welcome?

terminator

I think that mid look good because swansea will test us on the counter

If our midfield was so dominant why would you want to change it?? And nope...sorry that midfield is pretty dahm average...looks more like a wolves class midfielf, defo not good enough for liverpool!

31 Oct 2011 22:55:21
did we miss out on a good signing, Sylvain Marveaux? havent seen him much for newcastle. thanks

Miss out damba ba' the man himself say take me liverpool i will make you forget Torres. guess what he do score a lots.

31 Oct 2011 22:51:29
Well Red Devil, seeing you've been stalking pro Suarez posts all day. I really dont think teams are no where near as assed as Utd this season as last. Your lucky to be were you are were we're unlucky. You all call Luis this and that, yet you'd take him and cream in your speedo's if it ever happened which it wont. We'll be 3rd or 4th this season watch. All underestimate us, you scrape a win at West Brom and its character, we plant em and their crud. Luis and Silva, the most exciting players to watch in the EPL. Drag up all the stats you would like its a fact. The only 2 players along with Mata now and again who makes you think whats gonna happen next. Jonson

You scraped a draw at Norwich if we're starting that game. At the end of the day what has suarez done this season that was special other than the goal against stoke? I wouldnt expect you to agree, your a fickle minded, deluded liverpool fan after all.

RedDevil92
Over and Out ;)

LOL that's what deluded Man Utd fans think about fat ass rooney.

Abhi

Red devil what are you talking about? If you watched the match against Norwich you would have seen we most definitely did not scrape a draw we completely dominated the game just out finishing let us foen

Oh red devil...sigh, if i'm not mistaken and most would agree that man u was extremely, extremely lucky to scrape a result agains norwich, and toe scrape a draw against liverpool, man u goin dow, liverpool goin up...end off!

What has suarez done? The kid is special every time he gets the ball I stop breathing and sit up even when he doesn't have the ball he plays the space and back four beautifully. The kid is magic and deserves to win the ballon d'or in my opinion because he brings much more to Liverpool than Messi brings to Barcelona although many will disagree with me and Suarez could rip your defense apart with one touch from his gifted right foot.
redl4fe

Now that post is absolute rubbish above. He has absolutely nothing on Lio Messi i think you really need to get off them pills pal. As i have always said absolutely delirious you liverpool fans.

31 Oct 2011 22:36:16
Well imo, theirs only Ronaldo and Messi who are more talented them Suarez as forward players. That div earlier who put i've hardly seen him play but put Neymar down as better along with Benzema and Higuain, not to mention Pato and the Ibrhamovich as better forwards is a little bit more biased then Ed002, who's a Chelsea fan you novice. But you just keep getting jealous that he dont play for your club whoever it maybe and he does ours. About Neymar, wonder how many games you've really seen him play in you jokes. You tube dont count. Jonson {Ed001's Note - I would take Higuain over anyone myself, and I include Suarez etc, he is the best in the world right now I think.}

Totally Agree ED01 ronaldo always get's the plaudits but Higuan really is a special player.

RED87

I think Mario Gomez, is the best striker at the momment Ed. He's scored double figures already this season, for club and country. I like Higuian mate, i've watched him a lot and he likes to drop into that little pocket, between midfield and defence. Do you not think that him are Luis are alike as attacking players?

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed001's Note - Gomez is just not my type of player, he is a big lump who has to have great service. Higuain would score goals for anyone. He is kind of similar to Suarez, but more of a poacher than Luis is.}

I agree Ed, Higuain is defo a better finisher but i'd rather have Luis. We need someone like Rossi, Bent, Hernandez natural poachers with an eye for goal. Could De Jong be this player we are looking for?

Thanks

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed001's Note - he is certainly scoring goals at the moment, hard to say for sure from bad online streams though. I need to find some better quality footage of him. By the way, Rossi is not all that much of a poacher either for me, another one who likes to drop deep and get the ball to feet.}

Best poacher has to be gomez hands down

Luis for me, he can play with anyone and make them look good. he will set up chances and score them. will chase down play, take on players he is just surreal.

But would you take Higuain over Carroll Ed?

Ash {Ed001's Note - I think over anyone would include Carroll.}

I thought you may have forgotten about him.

Ash

We don't have Gonzalo, we have Andy.

Ash, get over it.

McSnuggles

31 Oct 2011 22:01:32
Eds , is it true that Kenny is biased and heavily inclined towards signing british players even if their european counterparts are highly better and cheaper? Will this affect our progress on the pitch? {Ed001's Note - nope and nope.}

31 Oct 2011 22:09:32
this isnt a rumour. id just like to say; boy did we miss a trick in not signing demba ba.

Cop yourself on lad. He is at his level with newcastle. Not near good enough for liverpool.
kopfiend 1978 ynwa

If KD had signed, we would have gone mental saying the signing lacked ambition.

How could it be a rumour? It's your opinion! We can't sign everyone. Fair enough, if you fancied him to come but it doesn't work like that.

He is twice the player carroll is and 35 million less

That Danny Guthrie looks a good player too!
Iggypop

I defo knew he would be a hit, i've seen him play for hoffenheim before. He went for cheap, kenny did not get him usual because he's not british.
Nnam

Every year has a striker who out performs for a while then goes back to their level, Amr Zaki anyone? Linked with all the top clubs after a good run, but that's all it is, a lucky streak.

31 Oct 2011 22:09:25
Just want to ask a question to the eds
If Gerrard has only got an infection in his ankle what's the picture of him with a plaster cast on his leg all about? Surely he wouldn't need that just for an infection?

Mat.lfc {Ed002's Note - Just wait for the club to make an announcement - it could have been to protect it or keep the sheer horror of the injury away from cameras.}

We need Mulder & Scully on this. I smell a conspiracy !

31 Oct 2011 22:01:22
There have been rumours we're looking to bring in a striker. How about Soldado at Valencia? I know the Eds seem to think Luuk De Jong is a prominent target, but can't help put think Soldado would be a better signing.
He is a leader, captaining Valencia this season, has a 1 in 2 goalscoring record and with Valencia's financial troubles could be available for a reasonable price

Ed,
How pacey is this De Jong lad ? I've never seen anything of him.
We're crying out for some real scintillating pace on RW or up front. Bellers is pretty quick, but he's not starting so many games.
The Real KB {Ed001's Note - he looks quick, but not lightning fast, but then lightning fast players struggle to control the ball at pace.}

31 Oct 2011 21:58:44
The reason why Suarez is up with the best players in the prem is because he is so unpredictable. Think Mick Mcarthy hit it on head after we played Wolves. Said if you drop deep he can run away with his pace, if you get tight he can turn you, if you double up on him he can dribble through you and if you stand off him he can produce a pass or chip/shot. Also that you have know clue what he will do next so defenders cant play percentages against him.

Monster of a player and Silva, Suarez and RVP best 3 with possibly Coliccini (spelling), Parker and Enrique making my 6 for PFA list. ( though we know no-one will vote for Suarez).

D 2308

PFA list? Have you taken your Christmas tree down already, as well?

Yeah i agree, its his specialty. unpredictable.

Hello Ed. I have just read an article online about David Cameron making an offensive remark about hillsborough... Is this article true?
Thanks
jonnybarnes89-90 {Ed001's Note - yes. I don't remember the exact quote or have a link to hand, I think it would be best though if you read it and judged for yourself.}

I have just read this article. It sounds as if Cameron is saying the families are looking for something that is not there.
Does he mean "a conspiracy"
Foot in mouth comes to mind.

Ed001, i dont think being a Utd fan he can grasp when most pundits inc a few i dont like would rather watch Suarez and Silva then Rooney and Kun. Listen Red Devil, you all jump on the Suarez band wagon because you'd all love to have him in your side. You parked the bus at Anfield, went man to man on Adam you were terrified. Anyhow Suarez and Silva, talent wise, not stats mr Dem ba ba would be up their better then Suarez in your bulls**t post. Jealousy gets you no where. When Kun gets the ball am i on the edge of my seat, no, becase he'll just lay it off. Suarez is a genius, 24 years old, getting better and better and has done it at international level on more then 1 occasion, World Cup ,Copa America spring to mind as well not having any kind of proper break for a long long time. You get back to your stats which anyone can twist like you have. Silva and Suarez best to players in Prem this season to watch end of story. Jonson

Jonson, we'll see if he's as good as you say he is when you fail to get Champs League, and he wants out. Then he'll be just as "sh*t" as Fernando Torres to you guys. It WILL happen sooner or later :)

RedDevil92

We could always pay him £200k a week and buy his loyalty...
The Real KB

He joined us without it so why would he leave because of one season..although we will be in it anyway

Fernando Torres IS sh*t though

'Alex'

Thank you for your kind words regarding your man of the month award for October - although I don't want to sound ungrateful I do wish you would give a bit more credit to the players as they are the real stars.

To show my appreciation of all your hard work I would like to give out my own award I call the Gary Neville 'oh my god I am now worse than my brother' trophy. This is a prestigious award and I am pleased to say that we have two outstanding candidates this year.

First we have Jonny Evans for his display against Man City - not only did he give the ball away which lead to Manchester City's first goal, he then decides to rugby tackle Balotelli with the player through on goal and gets sent off. The United fans were heard to be hoping for a three match ban so it would keep him out of the team. Surely United sold the wrong brother to Hull?

Secondly we have Rio Ferdinand for his display against Manchester City - "I would have thought with the experience of Ferdinand and Evra it wouldn't have happened" Ferguson said after the match, well it could and it did. After a display that made his brother Anton look like Baresi, Rio hasn't played again since.

And the winner is.......well to be honest I think they both deserve it for their contribution to such an entertaining and enjoyable game.

JRG

Great post

Capetown Red. Suarez has been along with Silva the best player in the Prem this season. I know your a true Red mate but Kun has gone off the boil a tad recently and Suarez has played at such a high level this season considering he hasn't had a proper break since probably his ban for Ajax last year its amazing how he's kept his form and the top of his game to such a high standard for such a long time . I think like i said with Silva and Suarez are head and shoulders above every other player so far in the Prem this season. On a side note, its gone a bit quiet all those Suarez haters who came out rippin him before the Stoke match, wonder why? Jonson

Gone all quiet? How about this? Suarez is NOT at the top with Silva this year, 4 goals and 3 assists for Suarez? 9 Goals and 2 assists for Rooney, 10 Goals and 2 assists for RVP. 9 Goals and 2 assists for Aguero. And plenty more players with more goals than Suarez in the league.

Stats dont lie, alot of players have given more than Suarez this season. David Silva is only heads above everybody else as he is a driving force behind a team. Suarez is hardly that.

RedDevil92 {Ed001's Note - stats can be made to say anything you want though, they are a nonsense unless placed in correct context, which clearly you haven't.}

Silva has only scored 3 goals this year so he must be rubbish....right?

Im not trying to take away the fact he is a good player, im just sayin in terms of whats gone on in the league, he doesn't match up. And that, as this is a liverpool site, you are bound to be biased towards him. I could have easy said Rooney is the best to watch, but i didnt because he hasn't been in the past 3/4 games. You pool fans jump the gun and go straight into the "you hate our players" "your jealous" no, infact it's called telling it how it is. David Silva and Van Persie have been the ones to watch so far this season. As seen as the stats arent in favour of Suarez, they are "irrelevant" now Ed001? But had Suarez been the top scorer and had most assists it would be a different story.

RedDevil92

Im a liverpool fan but I have to completely agree with you mate. Some of the fans on here, especially the eds, can be quite biased towards our players sometimes.

Stats do not lie and you're right if suarez was top goalscorer everybody would be jumpin on the stats bandwagon but coz his stats are not that prolific suddenly they are not important.

Suarez has been amazing this season but there are a handful of players who have been a lot more productive. Just sayin.

Leo Idaho {Ed001's Note - absolute nonsense, I have always said stats are an idiot's way to make a point because they can be twisted to back up any argument or dispute any point.}

Can anyone tell me who has had the most MOTM this season so fare?

Leave the stats until the end of the season. It is what a player does over the whole season that makes him valuable or not. A good performance here or there does not make you a world class player.
Iggypop

Ed i cant even be bothered with you at this time of the morning but i specifically remember Commoli sayin that he is all about stats so if its good enough for someone of his knowlegde and pedigree then its good enough for me.

Why do you always have to be so "left wing" and alternative all the time? I love this site and I appecriate all the hard work you put in to sustain it but you do confuse me with you're left field views sometimes.

The world revolves around numbers and stats and is the best point of reference for analysing players' performances.

Leo Idaho {Ed002's Note - That is not necessarily the case with soccer I am afraid.

Yes is it. The first thing any good manager, scout or coach does when reviewing a player is to look at his stats... stats measure productivity.

An example is Aaron Lennon and Henderson. On the pitch lennon has an abundance of skills, is lightning quick and provides more of an obvious threat to defenders but on paper henderson is probably twice as productive in terms of pass completion, assists and how much he covers the field...with commoli in charge these statistics will be the difference between us purchasing a waste of space like lennon and a quality baller like henderson.

Leo Idaho
{Ed002's Note - You are not comparing like for like. The statistics may be broadly of interest but will not be a driving factor in the decision to buy players or not. Transfers really do not work that way.}

I based the henderson/lennon analogy on the fact that they've both played predominantly wide right but im sure you get what im trying to say regardless.

No stats are not the driving force behind transfers but they are an integral part of the process. I will hightlight though that Benitez was one of our most successful managesr of recent times and was obsessed with stats and commoli also seems to have a healthy interest in them so it bodes well.

Leo Idaho

If we go by stats then Torres is not the PL striker. He is fit to play only lower league.

Have Man United got first dibs on Ryan Shawcross? Are we keeping a close eye on him? Will we bid in January or Summer for him? Would help us a lot

Good post sir alex x. My top 4 players of the month though are balotelli,silva,dzeko and sergio aguero. A brilliant performance from a team that is actually from manchester;-D

Ed002 i couldnt agree with you more i have no interest in facebook either. I find this site is the most reliable for information on Liverpool obviously other than the official website.

My only question to you is how come macca didnt want to give away transfer targets which i totally agree with but you guys tell us about players. Is that not targets or just strong interest you know about? Hope you dont mind me asking?

Great website cheers.

Mighty reds {Ed002's Note - I can't answer for Macca, but it is pretty easy for me to answer certain questions about players where there has been information provided from the clubs, agents etc.. The only targets I will normally mention would be those where there has been some confirmation of interest - as in the case of Luuk De Jong. And to be fair it is early yet and as I have said I really don't expect a spending spree from the club in January. There will be replacements sought if there are injuries or players leaving, and perhaps any shortcomings resolved.}

Liverpool's October Review.

It's now time to consider Liverpool's man of the month for October. There are some outstanding contributions, but my final 4 for making the biggest impact for assisting positive Liverpool results are:

Martin Atkinson, Everton away: His brilliant sending off of Jack Rodwell for a perfectly timed tackle whilst Tom Daley was acting as though he had been badly injured was superb.

Lee Probert, Stoke away (Carling Cup): A really outstanding contribution. To disallow a Stoke goal for absolutely nothing, and not to send Jamie Carragher off for an over the top lunging "tackle" was commendable.

Lee Mason, WBA away: Although Lee, bless him, forgot who he was refereeing when Tom Daley went down like a sack of spuds in the penalty area, his wing man, the assistant ref reminded him of his Liverpool obligations.

Andre Marriner, 19 times Champ19ns home: Acceptance of fat Adam's clear dive leading to a Liverpool's goal. This was a thing of subtle beauty.

Other October news.

Philip Walton, Norwich home: Mr Walton is to be disciplined for making fair and equitable decisions for both sides in this game. The result of Mr Walton's reprehensable performance, was the unacceptable outcome that Liverpool failed to "win"!

Stuart Downing, since start of the season: No goals and no assists at the cost 20m. Together with Carroll and Henderson, he is the bargain of the century!

Sir Alex x

Cheers Sir Alice, very entertaining.
Can you do us an October review for Man City as well, please? Try and focus on the 23rd, please, because I was out that day tending to an injured bird.
Sick swan, if you're interested.

Are you doing one for city,about their outstanding players that put 6 past you slur alex,you should change yr name to clymidia cant get rid of that either,jimmybosun,

Yeah, but 6-1.

DanLFC

If you hate Liverpool so much, then why do you insist on watching every game (or at least watching highlights/reading about every game) and commenting on a Liverpool fan page? Are you really that bored, or are you just a masochist?

CSeiling

LOL fergie u got brain fever because of 6-1 drubbing in the hands of mancity. LOL

And ur defenders makes titus bramble look like maldini. And finally do u have any midfielders in ur side. We have people like craig roddan, michael roberts, peter aylmer along with wee jay in our academy. We would send them to u on emergency loan. Atleast ur midfield will look like lower league sides. U r my best lad alex, dont feel shy to call me if u want to.

Ah Sir Alex how iv'e missed you biased opinion, why the long absence though did your homework catch up with you? times table can be tough can't they lol.

Hi Ed's I have heard off a reliable page on Facebook, and yes it is a social networking site, but their info is spot on and is usually sourced well before something happens. Their primary coverage is of transfer news, but they also cover games, give their own opinions etc.

On this occasion, they have mentioned Steven Gerrard and I fully believe what they say due to their past success'

If you go to their link, I am sure you can see for yourselves, the quality and reliability of this page,

Thank you, James W. {Ed002's Note - I am sorry but I don't have access to or any interest in Facebook.}

Sorry forgot to mention it but the other Eds only let me out on Halloween. Took Jamie and his dog for a walk last night and the dog told me "no way is he finished! I can never get to the stick before he does!" You know what? The dog was right!

Just for clarification:
1 we do not know how long SG will be out for. He has an ankle infection so it depends how long it will take to clear up and then see how strong it is when he gets back in training. Could be 2 weeks, 1month, 2 months. We will live with it and wish him well.
2 Doubt if the Taarabt rumours are anything at all. Besides he has an attitude problem and would be better of in France.
3 The team needs time to gel with the new players in the squad. We are better than last year and are trying to win games which is nice for a change!
Ed 1892

Just for clarification:
1. I've heard today that the infection that SG has will take no longer than 7-10 days to be sorted
2. Are there any Taraabt rumours?

This has to be a joke in support of the Eds?
Iggypop

Any Taraabt rumours? Yeah he is useless, hurry up and buy him, to add to your priceless squad.

Thanks for the answer Ed002 re my questions on De Jong and Sissoko much appreciated. Jonson

31 Oct 2011 16:21:36
Too many people reading too much into Stevies injury I think, it's simply an infection that will clear up very quickly. The length of his layoff will be longer than necessary only as a precaution.
On a different subject where have all the "we must sign Taraabt" posters gone?? There were a few who insisted he was world class!

Chris in Tamworth

I have got a simple 3 solutions for liverpool to make sure we can finish off all the chances we are creating.

1. START CRAIG BELLAMY. Bellamy has only started 2 games this season and has scored in each. If we give him 5 games in a row to see if he can do it week in week out.

2. ADAM MORGAN. The 18 year old striker can't stop scoring for the reserves and I will be supporting him for the rest of his career. Why not give him a go if he is a naturally born goalscorer

3. ANDY CARROLL DROPPED. I fully believe that Andy Carroll will be one of the best strikers in Europe when he is about 26 27. If KD pulls him and say's " I'm putting you in the reserves. You're not coming out untill you score 5 times." When Carroll returns to the first team, we might see a new side of him.

Adam Morgan instead of Andy Carroll? Have you actually stopped to think about that one? These posts are getting more ridiculous by the day.

Red Owl

I agree with the first 2 points...but then you totally lost it on the 3rd.

Carroll and Suarez is suddenly starting to work, I wouldn't break it yet.

Renegadered

Un-named poster for LFC manager, with them managerial skills Liverpool can't go wrong! Drop our 35mil signing to the reserves after the lad has put in a good performance has scored a goal :-/, where would you have there crimbo night out, a brothel and all the press are invited? Lay off the loopy juice mate it only Monday afternoon
The swan

Suarez and Carroll will end up clicking. Get that Toshack, Keegan feel. What's dropping Carroll really going to achieve? That's just being daft!

Cuchulainn's Hounds

Sooo... dropping a player who is above average now and will be magnificent in 2-3 years in favor of kid with huge potential, who'll be average in 2-3 years? Hmm..

Drigan

Morgan isn't 18 he is 17

We don't want to finish of all the chances we are creating; that would be boring. Even Rushie missed a chance once. January 1983, if my memory serves me right.

The first two points were pre special brew and the 3rd was after special brew...

Hi eds do you see Stevie G giving up international football to prolong his career? Surely would be a good option once fit again.

Would i also be right in saying if we did become depleted in midfield then KK would look towards Conor Coady. I have seen him play on lfc tv and he looks a real prospect. KK as got him involved with the first team as well.

And could we recall Shelvey at anytime?

Mighty reds {Ed002's Note - I don't know the detail of Shelvey's loan but there is often a clause allowing recall for financial recompense. As for giving up football, his focus will be on getting fit. Perhaps he will think about it after the Euro 2012 competition if he is selected.}

Hi ed,
Just wanted to know what's happening to stevie g. Another infection? Is stevie having major problems with his legs? How can one suffer from it? Is it a norm for footballers? I hope stevie will recover soon. Gonna miss him.
Thank ed. {Ed001's Note - infections happen, usually they respond to treatment, but it is apparently the major cause of setbacks in recovery from injury. It is just scar tissue getting infected while the body is weakened, if my understanding is correct.}

It is very unusual to get a joint infection from a cut, as the joint has a capsule and is generally protected. It is still possible, but strange. The groin infection was also strange, coming months after he should already have healed. Peri-operative wound infections certainly delay healing, but they occur within days to weeks of surgery, not months later.

Jonny Rutten {Ed002's Note - You will have to take all of the discussion that you seemingly want to start up to teh conspiracy pages rather than litter these pages with them.}

Afraid to publish facts ...............
Then you might view my post as something other than litter.

{Ed002's Note - Your post was nothing to do with football and was nothing more than ill informed vile trash and would no doubt of been extemely offensive and upsetting to at least some of the people who use this site. Nothing you have written today has reached the heady heights of being good enough to be deemed to be litter.}

Your lack of education shows you for who you are?

i've read the other posts and dont think this has been mentioned at all yet, but with Vincent Kompany being sent off ( straight red ) for Man City at the weekend, is he now suspended for 3 games meaning he will miss the league clash with us? or is there a carling cup game which concludes his ban before our fixture?

DMT07

Carling Cup rnd 5 plays the w/c 28th Nov we play them on the 27th. He will be suspended against us if he has a 3 match ban.

KopIdol YNWA {Ed004's Note - Johnny Evans got a straight red and only missed a game}

Its weird that people dont know the length of a ban, am wondering the same

Were all red cards 3 game bans before? {Ed002's Note - It is determined following the referee's report being submitted. If the offence could be deemed violent conduct then it is three games, else one. I don't know if circumstances exist where it could be a two game ban.}

Do we really need a replacement for Gerrard.. Hendo is doing very well so far and hes preferred position is cm... shelvey is doing incredible at blackpool and at 19 and 21 surely these too are adequate replacements for him... along with suso adam and lucas all competing for cm spots

I hope its only a short term replacement Gerrard will be back as good as ever in the new yeear its only an infection he has not last his legs

Two infections in two months. Does he have immunodeficiency? How many football players get a kick and then develop joint infection? Bizarre IMO.

You don't replace a player like Gerrard, we need to just buy quality and let them fit in... Gerrard has been one of the best players ever to put on Liverpool shirt - without a doubt - you can't simply replace like bulb!

Hendo I think will be quality though... but I don't see him being able to do what Gerrard has done.

31 Oct 2011 14:15:11
I think we already have the long term replacemnet for Gerrard in Jonjo Shelvey, this lad is a class act, and is only 19, if Gerrards out for 6wks then id recall him from Blackpool and give him ago there till Jan see wot he can do, if not then we look in the transfer market.

BigD

Shelvey isn't as mobile mate, in my opinion Hendo is more of a box to box midfielder than Jonjo and his skills are well better.I saw a skills contest on lfc tv Jonjo, Downing and Hendo.Hendo won it by a country mile mate, and as Rafa would say that's a fact.

You can look in the transfer Market, what you gonna find? If there was a Gerrard floating around he would be worth alot of money and the sheik, abramovich and SAF would be at the top of the queue and liverpool wouild not be at the races in financial terms.

There is another Gerrard going around (noone will ever be as good as Gerrard but as good a replacement as you'll find) and we could have signed him. He is Moussa Sissoko.

Ash

I take it you've seen Sissoko play on a regular basis then, have you? Nope. I thought not.

Red Owl {Ed002's Note - I don't know who you are aiming your snipe at but I have seen Sissoko play regularly and I think he would be an excellent buy.}

Ive seen enough Red Owl, although its clear you haven't. Just so you know, he is a very athletic, box-box midfielder playing for Toulouse. You should check him out!

Ash

Moussa sissoko is fantastic. Can play as cm, cdm. But wud cost around 20 million. Shame as we cud have got him for half that price this summer.

the man is not well, and his players need to shut up sharner(spelling) is at it now saying nice dive suarez, if you like it or not that was a penalty, suarez didnt even appeal for a pen so why is he being blamed wrongly for diving? it was a pen, so was the blatant push on big andy a pen and the hand ball when andy tried to head for goal will on another day be given, we out classed wba and could and should of scored 5 (again) this must be some sort of blame shifting or something instead of sorting there problems out they are blaming suarez, im getting sick of people picking on him, there are players who dive more than suarez and no one bats an eye, the truth is every one is gutted we have a real player and just cant swallow it no one wants us back at the top its becoming more clear to me every game we play, i suppose we will just have to put up with the anti liverpool brigade and stuff it down there throats,bob paisleys skids

I agree about Scharner's comments. Suarez was not brought down, but it was hard not to be brought down from the challenge, it was just a block, but Suarez didn't appeal. The linesman did, its his fault.

RenegadeRed

The challenge for the penalty would have been a foul anywhere else on the pitch, so the linesman was correct to award the penalty.

On Suarez, he needs to tone down his theatrics. He is getting fouled a lot, but because of his reaction referees may see it as him trying to con them. The statements coming out from the likes of Old Whisky Nose and the West Brom players are understandable, but not fair.

Sharner is only trying to hide the fact that his team didn't show up to play. Simple.

Just shows our clas - when we underperform, we blame ourselves only.

Look, lets get this straight about Suarez. He's been offered very little protection since he's come to the Prem. And just because he wins another through a crazy forwards tackle and prob could've won one when Woodgate tried leggin him up he stayed on his feet. End of the day, their all jealous that we got him at a snip really be worth more then double that plus more now. They, the other clubs want to really out to be this pure cheat but only because they'd all love him in their team. I say keep going Luis your a genius and this top ten listing that went up the other day defo in top 5 players in world. No other player can do things he does. Megs players, unreal dribblling, goals, assists, just a joy to watch. Craig Burley said after the game on Sat that he and Silva are by far the 2 best players in the league so far this season. Lets rally round Luis, he loves it here and he knows we love him. If that was a dive against West Brom Scharner said was bull. Turd tackle from a forward. Weak pen but took him out end of. Amazing how Olsens shove in Carrolls back on a corner was overlooked eh. Big Andy looking much more dynamic. Burnt Olsen to get to a ball where i think he won a foul near touchline. Also the way he powered through for that knockdown to burst past 2 players to get a snap shot off well saved by Foster. Ye i think its a strike force thats really gonna take off, the players all getting used to not just playing for Liverpool but their roles in the team. A bit better finishing from everyone not just Luis,Andy and Kuyt and i really belive that we can dominate games against anyone re of personall playing. The chances are there, no lets just start hammerin teams week in week out. Jonson

Lol this is the exact utter drivel i expect from you liverpool fans, yes he is a brilliant player and yes he is ONE of the best in the world. But he isnt in the top 5. Think about it this way, Suarez is better than:
Messi?
Ronaldo?
Villa?
Benzema?
Higuain?
Ibrahimovic?
Neymar?
Pato?
And thats just strikers. Dont forget:
Xavi
Iniesta
Ozil
Robben
Sneijder
Schweinsteiger
etc....

The list goes on and on. Complete and utter biased bullsh*t. And i completely expect this reply not to be posted as ED002 and the kop brigade cant handle an unbiased comment.

Anon001 ;) {Ed002's Note - Oh great, I am now biased toward Liverpool.}

You tried to start a bebate ,then claim ibrahimovic is bettr than suarez,nuff said

31 Oct 2011 13:54:47
The 4th spot challenge is delicately poised. Our squad is strong, but it would be with only a few injuries. If Downing can up his game he could be a key player, as will Carroll once he has found his top form. Spurs look very strong all round and full of confidence. Arsenal can outscore anyone with RVP on fire. Chelsea whilst more exciting are not quite as solid so far under AVB.

Liverpool's character will come to the fore in the next 3 league games (Swansea, Chelsea, City), it is important the team remain calm in possession from defence to attack and finish the chances when they come, if they do these things we will do ok. If we win perhaps 2 out of the next 3 we will be in a good position as the run of games in December are against lesser opposition and winning the vast majority will most likely leave us in a top 4 position.

Still many questions to be answered though, i.e. will Suarez score more than 1 goal in a game? Will Bellamy get a start? Can our midfield cope against that of Chelsea & City? How will the team react to the loss of Gerrard? Will Glen Johnson or Charlie Adam commit a defensive error that will cost us a game?

Will agger stay fit?

Will Kelly ever impress Kenny?

You mean like the two gpoals he scored for us against stoke last week doh

Gerrard has had his ankle operated on. I know this because I know Doctor Sajjad who did the surgery. Gerrard will be out for a minimum of two months. The infection in his groin which occurred after his summer surgery had not fully cleared and had made it's way into the ankle tissues. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this is the truth. He may be out for a lot longer than 2 months, so brace yourselves.

I take it Doctor Sajjid is not one for doctor/patient confidentiality then?

JRG

I don't know his doctor, but I have medical training. I think this is the more likely scenario than the 'kicked in practice' one we are being fed. This is worrying news for sure.

Sad to see a good player ravaged by injuries, was same situation with Hargreaves at United.

Don't write Gerrard off yet. I bet he is back before the end of the month.

This year is Gerrards only year of injuries for the best part of 12 years he was rarely injured have some faith and hope.

He'll be back before the new year.

Back before the end of the month? so he will be back later as its the last day of the month today? sorry couldnt resist

agree or not ?

There's no next Stevie G. he's a once off just like there was no new Torres or Fowler all once off players

TRUE YEA but i think his style is similer to gerrards and he would be young enuff to mould into the midfield ?

Hey eds. Any chance of a hot topics section of the website?
I keep seeing loads of questions on here like how long is gerrard out for? Any stadium news? Etc etc
The eds usually just say refer to previous answers.
I understand you don't want to repeat yourselves 30x a day.
So why not just have a daily hot topics section where posters can just click onto to find the original detailed answer from the ed on the days hot topics. Would save everyone time. I am off to work in 5 mins and don't have time to scroll through the whole page to find out about gerrard and the search button never works when I am on my phone. Plus a lot of people are too lazy to use it anyway.
Thanks again eds

MIKEY {Ed002's Note - If there are ways to improve the site we will but adding an additional page and then repeatedly poining people at that is no less effort. We have tried such things in the past and it simply hasn't worked. Have a great day at work though.}

Isn't there not extra costs per page? {Ed001's Note - nope, that makes no difference to costs at all.}

I'd Just like to start a discussion on Jonjo Shelvey.

Always rated him since he joined us, but obviously hasn't played much for us.

He is now on loan at Blackpool and has scored 2 goals in 5 games. Watching highlights of the games he has played, he looks confident on the ball, an eye for a pass and seems to be able to take control of a game- much like Gerrard.

I hope he comes back next season and plays a few more first team games. I think he is the perfect replacement for when Gerrard hangs up his boots which may be in the next 2-4 seasons.

He is still young and will grow into a great player

From a london point of view, chelsea, west ham, fulham, arsenal & spurs all looked at him and turned him down, I know scouts from chelsea & spurs and they said by the age of 22 he will be an average player with not much sell on, before you say they don't know what their taking about the did say sterling got away and is gonna be a good player

He could possibly do well at a mid table prem side but he will never be good enough for a top club.Alot of people were surprised when we signed him as like the other person points out alot of clubs had watched him and decided he just wasnt good enough

In reply from the London poster, I'm also from London and Charlton being my local team I take a lot of interest. Chelsea bidded £3 million for him, I don't think that means Chelsea turned him down, I think he turned down Chelsea...

Forlan, Pique, Rossi, Seb Larrson all snubbed at young age but turned it round.

Shelvey + Henderson in the middle = Beast of a partnership.

RenegadeRed

Jonjo needs to find an extra yard or so he is very young and we all know what happens as you get older, maybe a didi hamman type he will never be as quick as gerrard,bob paisleys skids

I might get slated for this but Jonjo reminds me a lot of Xabi Alonso. Obviously not in terms of quality yet, but in terms of his ability to pick a long pass or a through ball and get it bob on. His game isn't about pace but he is still physical enough to run through opposition midfielders on occasion. His movement is brilliant, and he's really very good on the ball. I have high hopes for him

Erikson of Ajax also snubbed by Chelsea. Whaat is your point

Complete rubbish. How could these scouts say he'll be an average player by 22 when their clubs were clearly in for him when we bought him.

But, oh, they say Raheem Sterling is a good player. Apparently they also unearthed this fella called Lionel Messi - he's 24, but they reckon he might still make it as a professional. The world must be made aware of the genius of these outstanding individuals.

Get a grip lads. Shelvey is standing out at Championship level at the age of 19 - something the likes of Wickham, Cleverly and Oxlade-Chamberlain never did. He will be a top class footballer one day as long as he keeps his head down and works as hard as possible.

Martin

I don't think we'd have loaned him out if he was that good. The likes of Gerrard and Owen weren't loaned out, even as youngsters.

31 Oct 2011 10:36:55
is there any good youngsters dat we are looking at and what is this luuk de dong fello like tanks

31 Oct 2011 10:25:35
i rate johnjoe shelvey very highly i think hes the man to replace stevie G

Dead heat between Shelvey and Hendo for me

Shelvey will never be good enough hes playing at his level at blackpool and good luck to him but he is no more than a championship to lower premier league player at best

There seems a lot of bitterness towards luis suarez at the moment it wouldn have anything to do with defenders and managers not knowing how to contain him would it?

The bloke is on a different planet at the moment. So teams cant handle him so they just abuse him after the game. I think there is a lot of jealousy about suarez at the moment. But why the rest are jealous we will carry on worshipping his skills.

Mighty reds

Paul Merson had great praise for him Saturday. He said he'd get in the Barcelona team tomorrow. He's 100 percent right!

Being at sea means I have difficulty accessing many websites including our own official one, so I rely on info on this one to keep me upto date with what is going on (great Job Ed's). I was wondering if any body has the figures covering the last 50 games, W,D,L including which ones gerrard played in and didn't? I would be interested in seeing the points difference he makes to the team and think that the last 50 games is long enough to give a fair reflection, further back is really a different team. Cheers in advance.

The war against Suarez continues, seems as if Scharner has jumped on the hating bandwagon with evra and the rest of manchester

They just can't get enough coz he is the best player at the momment playing in epl and specialy playing for liverpool at the end Its all about mind games and some decision will go against us

It is totally out of order the noises coming out of WBA and in the national press about that penalty. Firstly it is a foul - Suarez is clearly blocked and then tripped as he attempts to run for the ball. And secondly after he falls Suarez never claims a penalty or puts his hands up - he gets straight back up and tries to run for the ball again. How people can say he dived for a penalty is beyond me.

In fact I would say that Suarez's attitude in the last two games has been fantastic - no diving, no arguing with the linesman or referee's and no dissent. Unfortunately people like Ferguson and Sharner and keen to give him a bad reputation.

JRG

I concur with the view that the current criticism of Suarez largely derives from jealousy on the part of other clubs, Manchester United in particular. The media are sufficiently lazy to grasp at any hint of a story they can get their hands on, especially if the story originates from Old Trafford. JRG sums up events surrounding the penalty on Saturday perfectly. There is no doubt at all that Luis was fouled. There is also no doubt at all that Luis certainly did not dive.

Hi Ed..Great site and great work..
Was extreamly happy to see us playing against west brom..We played execptionaly well..Adam..i think his bets game so far..henderson was good..and great to see carroll doing well...Now bad news..on gerrard...Lets pray that he comes back fast enough..but i still feel..we can do well against swansea this saturday...
i am waiting for the game of the season Against Chelsea...
I dont know..but I am confident we could get a result at bridge..seeing arsenal smashing 5..we too can..We have suarez..whould take out..david luiz and terry any time...carrol...who would be an ariel threat...
great to see agger and skirtel together...skirtel is good in teh air..and will give us option in set pieces...
the good thing we have is..cheslea midfield looks horrible..ramirez and mikel will not trouble much of lucas...if we can keep lampard out and mata..we will win there for sure...

we should play with 4-4-2..teo strikers..to make them feel that..if u score..we will also score...simple...we can attack..and we can get a goal..i can see suarez scoring.....i know its difficult..but if we win...i can see chelsea struggling for a top 4 finish..
i have alwasy feared spurs...i mean they aer the team at the moment ot beat..after city...

Hey ed, I have two questions for you. 1) Why wasn't Kelly in the squad on Saturday? As far as I know, he wasn't injured and trained on Friday. 2) Do you see Jay Spearing's future at Liverpool? Thanks a lot

Keith YNWA {Ed002's Note - (1) He is not listed as injured so it was tactical or he was rested. (2) I guess he has a future as a squad player rafther than a regular first pick.}

(16M)henderson-2 of (7M) Adam/Lucas/Gerrard-Downing (20M)

OR would u take

Turan (12M)-2 of Miereles(12M)-Lucas/Gerrard -Mata (23M)

16+7+20= 43
12+12+23=47

Add to that Carroll (35M)
Or
Adebayour+Higuian 40M

If I were in football manager, I'd take the players you just listed, pushing my wage budget to game maximum and going bonanza.
In real world - don't think so. We are not a oily club and do not conduct our business as if we were in a game. In REAL world the sum of the transfer fees is not an adequate factor for comparison. There are tons of side factors, as psychology, WAGES, agent fees, POTENTIAL, ADAPTATION, and compatibility with the squad.

DRIGAN

Drigan {Ed002's Note -

My signings would have been, - Turan -12m, Mata - 23m, Honda - 8m, Soldado - 16m, Enrique - 6m, Coates - 8m. 87m spent, 62m (Torres and Meireles) recouped. Net spend £25m.

Ash {Ed002's Note - Torres was sold last January. If you include him then are you including Carroll and Suarez? The cost of Honda in the summer was £20M.}

And Suarez of course. Net spend now of £47m.

I meant they would be my signings from January onwards. Honda was £8m in January and I would have sold Torres, left Carroll at Newcastle and kept the money.

Ash

You would have made do with Ngog for a striker, Ash?

Absolutely. Carroll was injured and our season was pretty much over anyway. We had absolutely nothing to play for!

Ash

No. We still had a chance of European football

These players are world class.. we need to get back to top 4 even to think about signing them.

31 Oct 2011 05:37:15
Just trying to pre-empt a few responses that will posted when confirmation of length of Gerrard's absence from injury is announced. I'm sure some people will bring up the names Cole, Aquilani and Meireles and why they are not at club.

Aquilani is a class player but did not settle in England. His desire was to go back to Italy and thats why 2 loans over past 2 seasons. You can't force a player to play if he doesn't want to and its bad for morale to have a player in starting 11 if they really want to leave.

I'm sure that if AA had really wanted to stay that Kenny would have used him but his mind seemed pretty made up. Another shame was that most of the pre season friendlies were used as a shop window to get potential buyers for these players which may give some explanation as to why it took some time for players to gel in their positions.

Meireles left due to a contract dispute. Its reported that previous owners, Purslow and Hodgson gave "verbal" understanding that if he had a successful 1st season he would get significant pay rise.

Now again I liked Meireles as a player and would have preferred him in our squad (note squad, not first 11). But given that contracts in football are pretty detailed with payments if injured, win and appearance bonuses and image rights etc why a poss pay rise can't be documented seems strange.(Though other players have stated verbal agreements i.e Modric about being able to leave Spurs). But in Meireles case the 3 people this verbal agreement was supposed to be between were no longer at club. And what defines whether he had earnt the pay rise. LFC hadn't qualified for Europe or won a trophy. The player had a great Jan/early Feb but was average to good the rest of the time. He had settled in Prem but to me there was nothing that indicated he had deserved a payrise.

So this led to him going - you can have your own views on whether we should have increased his salary on basis of a verbal agreement with past employers with no real measure to determine if the player had earnt it, but I think we were right not to increase his wages. I was sorry he left but he did have some flaws as he left us weak defensively and again he wanted to leave.

Cole was a good player but his style of play wasn't fitting in with our system. He too often slowed the speed of our play and for all his skill seemed reluctant to play pass and move but instead preferred to either dribble or to attempt a trick to beat his man. He did want to play for us tho and as he was going to get limited game time it was a loan designed to help the player - to stop him festering in our reserves and reduce our wage bill and give him regular football.

So IF Gerrard is out for 2 months remember that the 3 players above are not currently with the club because of the reasons above so wishing a AA back into our midfield was never going to happen.

We have a CM quartet of Lucas, Adam, Henderson and Spearing and Shelvey on loan so we do have cover and we have been playing without Gerrard for all of this season really.

I wish him a speedy recovery but if we ever wanted to see how we would cope without Gerrard this season has shown it. However lets hope that once he is back he can enjoy his final few seasons in a winning team.

I must say that kenny has done well so far.

We've been unlucky and had a couple of undeserved draws but we've played well and are still well in the race for top 4.

We've also only lost twice in all competitions so far.

And we've done that with a half fit gerrard(when he plays) and an rra who hasn't been playing his best footie.

Where would the other clubs be if 2 of their most iconic players were out or had a deep in form?

Arsenal are on the up but injuries to rvp and vermalaen(which, with their injury record is any moment now)and they're in trouble again.

Man u alrdy have real problems in defence. If they lose Looney or chicharito,..

But we've done well despite that.

And Carroll seems to be coming into a bit of form, which is great.:-)

The key period will be in dec and january, esp around christamas and new year.

Imo, we have 1 of the deepest squads in the PL. Maybe only 2nd to city.

Let's see how far we go when all the teams start getting tired or injured but we have 3 RB, 3 LB, 4 CB, 8 Midfielders and 4 strikers. And that's not including the kids on the verge of coming thru.

Football is a funny game. But at least we look prepared.

Kennz has turned the te am around and we're so much stronger than we've been in a long time.:-)

Ed's just wondering of you have heard what exactly Gerrards new injury is, and how bad it is ? I have heard a few rumours that it's worse than what the club are letting on and it might be at least a month before we see him again

Cheers Aussie red {Ed002's Note - As far as anyone knows it is an infection of the ankle and it will be a day or two before there is a better understanding of the problem and a statement can be made. There are various reports giving an estimated recovery time but at this point that is no more than speculation. This has been followed by the doom mongers and the soothsayers giving their all. Perhaps just not worrying too much and waiting for something tangible from the club would be best.}

Hey Ed. What positions are we looking to improve n which names are we interested in for january n the summer. {Ed002's Note - Please read the pages - we don't provide summary reports.}

Dont understand why the eds always tell us to look through earlier posts, I get if its a really long answer but this question literally takes a sentence to answer...the same amount of time it took you to say "refer to earlier answers..."

im not being deliberately difficult just dont understand the logic. You may aswel just answer the question in this instance.

Leo Idaho {Ed002's Note - It is to get you in to the habit of doing so. Aside from being annoying for the editors, many of the readers do not enjoy reading the same answers again. The alternative is that we delete the duplicate posts, so then the posters get PO because their postas are being deleted.}

Well, there is always the possibility of making a Summary page, with rumours ranged according to credibility... but browsing through older posts is so much fun!

Drigan {Ed002's Note - No, I am sorry, there is not the possibility. We do not have the time to start producing summaries. There is already a search facility and if readers are interested in the rumours then they need to read through the posts.}
