Just listening to the Anfield Wrap podcast which is always a great listen and thought I would publicise 'We Never Walked Alone', Steve Kelly's charity walk from Hillsborough to Anfield. Look it up, donate or just spread the word. Great cause and great effort people

Don't know about anyone else but I'm kinda looking forward to getting a tough group in next seasons UCL assuming we qualify. We may not progress past thd group stage but at least we'd have 6 quality games to really see how far we've come under BR

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wierdo. Give me an easy group and progression as far as possible

Agree0 Disagree0

As long as LFC get the money to help balance the books, I really don't care who we draw.

More concerned about winning our 20th title next season, in style.

Agree0 Disagree0

The top teams will be dreading drawing us in their pot.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Apr 2014 15:25:19
I think I'm right in saying that the UEFA coefficient is calculated by a team's last 5 years in European competition. That should see us in pot 3 so realistically we could get Barca, Napoli and Maccabi Haifa. I really want to see us play Barca. I'd even have backed Kenny's Reds against Barca

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Pot 4.}

Realize you are going to likely get annoyed with me Ed for continuing to bring this up, but I can't for the life of me figure out how we get into pot 4? I know you mentioned below it's rolling 5 years, but the last 5 year coefficients used for the upcoming CL seedings/pots would be 9/10, 10/11, 11/12, 12/13, and 13/14 would they not? In which case we're 32ish with about 20 clubs ahead of us likely to be in CL by my count, so pot 3 (if we got that far)?

Really not trying to be difficult, just trying to understand how it works?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Add 14/15 and remove 09/10.}

So they add the current year, 14/15 in this case (which will be 0s for most everyone I would think) and remove the oldest year, 9/10 in this case, before the pots are determined for group stages? Hadn't realized that, thanks much for the clarification (and patience for the many questions!).

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It won't be zero as the Country co-efficient goes in.}

Hi all,
I made a post before last weekend's games stating what league position Liverpool had secured etc and how many points are still needed to secure 6th, 5th 4th etc.
The post seemed pretty well received so I thought I would do the same again.

As it stands Liverpool are currently top :) with 18 points left to play for. We have secured a top 7 finish as 8th and lower can no longer mathematically catch us

To secure a top 6 finish we need to gain just 2 more points on 7th placed Man U, this can be achieved this weekend by either us winning or utd losing or drawing. A top 6 finish would also gaurentee European football for next season and be our highest finish in 5 years.

To secure a top 5 finish we need to gain 4 points on 6th placed spurs, again if results go our way this can be achieved this weekend.

There is still work to do yet to achieve top 4, assuming Everton win their game in hand we need to gain 11 points on them to secure champs league football.

To secure top 3 and avoid champs league playoffs we need to gain 12 points on arsenal, fortunately arsenal and Everton play each other this weekend so one of if not both will drop points on Sunday.

The top 3 places I really wouldn't like to call, they are going to go to the wire

But 1st things 1st west ham this weekend YNWA

Agree0 Disagree0

Brighton-scouser . a brilliant post. I enjoyed the last update - and this one too. Unfortunately I'm old enough to remember all the disappointments we had and as a result I've developed an inferiority complex. This manifests itself in me constantly looking at the league table and working out all the differing permeations. You're wee articles make them so very clear - and save me a whole lot of working out. Keep them coming.

Really hope Sakho starts Carroll will dominate over Agger.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I wouldn't be so quick to write off agger mate. Is it too much of a gamble to start sakho considering how well the team have been playing? I'm not sure we should be worrying too much about their attack/our defence when we have SAS up front. Even if Carroll gets a goal we will get 3 the other end. I personally would start agger and give sakho some time off the bench.

Agree0 Disagree0

I just remember last season how big players like lukaku, carlton cole, benteke terrorised Agger and Carroll on his day can hurt us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree Sakho has to start, Agger has been poor last 2 games and struggles against strong players

Agree0 Disagree0

We are unbeaten in how many!

Why change a settled back four.

Agree0 Disagree0

You change the team in relation to the opposition you are facing not on if they won the last match, for example rodgers started sterling against Manchester United behind the strikers because he neew they dropped deep and he could exploit the gap between midfield and defence with his directness. Sakho is a lot better suited to deal with andy carroll, every time agger faces someone physical he normaly gets bullied, he rarely wins headers. People have to stop with this fantasy with agger, yes he loves the club and yes he's loyal but that's not going to win the 3 points. The best team to face the opposition and nullify their threat should be picked.

Agree0 Disagree0

Changing the midfield is completely different from changing the back four. Yes Agger is not the player he was but him and Skrtel had the best understanding not so long ago. So why change it when they look settled at the moment.
Oh no Ian Dowie is playing let's change a settled back four. I think Skrtel has more Goals than Carrol.

He will probably come back to haunt me now. But I trust whatever Brendan does as most has worked this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't have any fantasy about agger I agree sakho should be/will be taking his place soon. It's just why chuck in a player only just recovered from injury into a battle with the overly aggressive Carroll? He will likely struggle more than agger. We shouldn't be making such a bold move to our defence in such an important game. Making slight changes to midfield or up front is a lot less risky than unsettling a settled defence needlessly.

Agree0 Disagree0

In this instance I'm in the 'you can't change a winning team' camp. I may have disagreed if Sakho had been playing a bit - but he's bound to be ring-rusty. An in-form Agger for me at this juncture.
It's a no brainier!
And as someone said up the page there our attack will nullify theirs - rendering Carroll impotent anyone.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would play 3-5-2 with agger AND skrtel AND sakho in the middle. All westham will do is play long balls and try and get crosses in for carroll. If one of their wingers e.g. downing manage to get past our full backs, either skrtel or agger can cover whilst sakho can remain central.
Attacking wise, our wing backs will have more freedom to move forward

Agree0 Disagree0

Agger constantly costs the team goals but is still part of the performing defence . simple header clearances he doesn't make and when some one drops the shoulder he's taking out of the game. He costs us the goal against cardiff after been made a joke of by frazer campbell, against sunderland he let's the ball float by his head to allow ki to score when flanagan lost him, I agree flanno should have stopped ki but he should of never been put in that position by agger in the first place. or else what about the arsenal goal where ox just pranced by him, he's to weak and allows goals which should be erradicated in to easy

Hi Eds I know this has been mentioned but not really answered.

Konop's agent has tweeted today, on route to Liverpool. Some saying he is no longer his agent and some saying he is on way to discuss transfer to LFC.

What's your take on this lot please? Sorry to ask.

Eds, if Man U signed Dr Steve Peters would Joey Barton be available?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Apr 2014 20:44:52
Hey a question for ed01 in particular, I've been watching him for a while and I can't seem to make up my mind, but what's your opinion about sunderland's Ki? His ball retention is magnificent and he has a goal in him too. Would just like to know your opinion of him and if you think he would be a good fit in this Liverpool side? Any reds welcome to share their opinions

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he is ok, decent Prem player, but he is not good enough to get in our team. He is a decent passer, a decent tackler, suspect positionally and is often caught ballwatching. He also lacks good movement, the penetrative movement of a normal centre mid, but is not good enough defensively to just sit in front of a backline.}

I think he has some class about him so for me it would really depend on whether our coaching staff could iron some of the weaknesses ED mentions in his game. If they could he'd be an astute buy but realistically that is far from guaranteed - at the moment he seems a jack of all trades and a master of none. More importantly is to look at him as a player and see if he can improve our first team or squad: is he better than Lucas? No. Gerrard? No. Joe Allen? No. Henderson? No. Teixiera? Probably but he is also 5 years older than him. Suso? I don't think so. Luis Alberto? About the same. Personally I'd find it difficult to justify buying him even though I like him as a player. If we're going to buy another midfielder I think we need to aim higher.

Perfectly valid question though and one I've chewed the fat over with friends a number of times.

Agree0 Disagree0

Isnt he on loan from swansea, he has that bit of class about him when he passes, like you said, if they can coach him to a higher level, then he would be worth a gamble, as we will have a lot more games to play next season .

I have heard some gossip from a very reliable source about Fernando Torres. He is unhappy at Chelsea and going to hand in a transfer request. The source says that Rodgers could be preparing a shock bid for the spanian. Eds do you have any news on this?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not sure why we'd need a backup for Aspas and Borini?

Agree0 Disagree0

Noooooooo!! I thought this rumour would never come back again!

Agree0 Disagree0

Here is the city .com has never been a source to take with any great reliability.
I would not even consider it.
And it is a SUGGESTION rather than a concrete rumour.
Some one, with time on there hands, who has heard Torres is leaving Chelsea, Liverpool looking for a back up striker and thinks the two could be a good fit.
In my eye's absolute rubbish.
He has lost that extra pace he used to have and would be suited in La Liga where he will have a little extra time on the ball.
Although whether he can come back is highly questionable.
For me, another Micheal Owen and I would be VERY surprised to see him return to LFC.

Delayed response to the poster who asked about superstitions a few weeks ago:

1. Lucky socks - these were in the wash during the Swansea game. When it got to 2-2 I stopped the machine and wore them, wet, on my head until it was 4-2. Swansea subsequently got a consolation.

2. Never claim we are going to win by 4, 5, or 6. Stay humble, before and after a win. The football ancestors prefer it that way.

3. Always refer to the team as 'The Reds' or 'Redmen' when shouting at the telly.

Of course, it's all a load of old lemmings (but it seems to be working)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I base my superstition on my fantasy team. Have never picked Sturridge or Gerrard for fear of bad luck - Sterling and Suarez seem to be lucky when I have them in the team. Also had Hazard in at the start of the season when he did nothing - week after I sacked him off he hit form. He's back in now and has faded off slightly. Also got Adebayor in there an he's been injured. Anyone wish to request a City player or two for me to draft into this voodoo XI?

The biggest problem most clubs face is good players hate being benched, this goes all the way down to grass roots football and anyone who has run a sunday or saturday league side or 5or 6 a side will tell you, this is problem that gets a little easier with clubs at the very top who are in all competitions including champions league as you have to have squad rotation to rest players for the demands of competition on all fronts, the reasons this becomes a little easier is good players want champions league as this is the ultimate in their proffesion in club footy and as we all know clubs like that are few in each euro country also good players respect this and sign as they don't have lots of options so this is good for lfc, we set out a plan to get top 4 and we are doing admirably which will attract the right calibre of player, this would not happen if we were below top 4 as we saw with suarez last year that heads can get turned do u think for example bony would stay for swansea if he were benched week in and out, I think the hard bit is getting top 4 for any club but once there 'enjoy the fruits' and our club song at the end of the storm is a golden cloud makes sense, well done lfc

I think the success of Liverpool this season has hindered a lot of our summer signings, if players like sterling, hendo and Allen hadn't been as good as they have been, if gerrard hadn't adapted so well, or if Sturridge hadn't scored as many as he has, players like Alberto, Moses and Aspas would have been given more game time! But as we are currently fighting for the title, and said players playing so we'll, we can't risk these players, who frankly haven't performed yet. They were brought into a team expected to be 4-6th but are now in one that are top. You simply can't drop players like sterling for Aspas hoping he will impove, when sterling has been as good as he has! Credit to the Improvers for this!

Totally agree mate.

Hey eds got a question for you. With all the spurs stadium talk recently I've been trying to research on what happened with the anfield redevelopment plan? we last heard something in Jan.

Also any idea how much the seats will be increased by? I read we'll increase it to 55k which I believe is low, we should atleast take it to 60k if not 65k right?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - we are limited by the environs to below 60k. There are plans in place for a similar plan to the one Man City are following with a major investment in regenerating the surrounding area and improving transport infrastructure to allow for further expansion in the future. It is going to be years down the line though thanks to the way the UK works with regard to planning and then actually building anything.}

You're looking at it wrong there isn't going to be one expansion.

Stage 1:

Expanded Main Stand - taking capacity to 55,000 seats - a lot of these will be corporate.

Stage 2:

Expanded Anfield Road Stand - taking capacity to 58,000, removing the current top tier and replacing it with a new upper tier but one that doesn't have the overhang and letterbox views of the current anfield road stand

If we can fill the 58,000 seater anfield then we will have stage 3:

Filling in corners, cramming seats into every space that will have a decent view and that will take capacity to 64,000

Just wondered what people think, with stevie g facing a 2 game ban if he gets a yellow against west ham, would you rest him for the west ham game to make sure he is available for the city game.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd just leave it as normal, I don't want him having a two week rest before a high intensity game v city. If the team plays well & controls the ball there will be no need for him to dive in & get a yellow, it's when hendo or Allan switch off & leave him defending by himself is when he'll get a yellow.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rest him and loose to west ham is also an option

Agree0 Disagree0

I think I follow your logic LFC_ForLife but it seems strange to be saying that if (when?) SG gets a yellow it will be the fault of one his colleagues?

Agree0 Disagree0

Alot of Gerrard's yellow cards has come from Henderson getting to far forward an not being able to get back to help when we get hit on the brake same goes for Johnson, but it's how we play an it's working! But it does leave Stevie with a lot of ground to cover.

Agree0 Disagree0

Keep him in, vital game! Finish them off (all being well) and bring him off a la Spurs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Keep Gerrard and play Allen taking out one of Coutinho or Sterling.

Agree0 Disagree0

Keep playing him and see what happens - his leadership and drive (as well as his dead ball prowess) could be crucial against West Ham, if he gets a yellow card so be it.

Only a quick question for anyone to answer. Where do you all see flanno next season with us still wanting a full back plus the possibility of Enrique being fit and playing does anyone see flanno starting many next season?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If he keeps up this level of performance then he should certainly be in the team next year, on current form he's one of the best full-backs if not the best in the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we acquire a quality left back then there is no reason why Flanno cannot challenge Johnson. He has been quality but playing a predominantly right footed played at left back can cause problems and teams will look to take advantage - on the balance of play this season I would say Flanno is ahead of Johnson in the pecking order for right back - if he can maintain his excellent performances then he will be, on merit, first choice. Johnson simply has not done enough to be regarded as a shoe-in for first choice right back, Flanno has.

Agree0 Disagree0

He deserves a place in the team but he needs to find an end product attacking wise because Rodgers won't stick with him if he doesn't produce in the long run. Hopefully there working on that side of his game.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me, Flannagan has had his best games playing left-back this season, Johnson has been good since he returned from injury, so there is nothing to suggest that Enrique will regain his place.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think criticism of his end product is very unfair. We are not the sort of team who has over lapping fullbacks to hoof crosses into the box (think United) and as such this "distribution" is fairly secondary to what Flanno brings. His range if passing has improved noticeably and has his accuracy and personally I think his ball retention/ball economy is much better than Johnsons. Flanno's play suits our system very well, if he can improve his ability to beat his man one on one then there is no limit to what he can achieve. I personally do not think his attacking distribution (though an improvement in his crossing would be a bonus) is a big issue for either Flanno or our system.

Agree0 Disagree0

Only one answer to Seano - Philip Lahm, a right footed left back - didn't stop his development into a world class defender.

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember reading that Flanno was being groomed to play CDM on account of his lack of pace. I think he would be great as a (young Carra-esque) utility player. Filling in (or starting) at RB, LB and CDM.

Agree0 Disagree0

I absolutely love Flannagan. He is strong in the tackle, good on the ball but for me his strongest attribute is his ability to press win the ball back in the oppositions half. If you think back to the united game at Old Trafford, the number of times he pinched the ball back in their half was ridiculous and it gives us the opportunity to get at the oppositions back four more regularly.

Ian the red

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure how Phillip Lahm, arguably one of the best fullbacks of the millennium, justifies your point John B. He is a freak of nature, its like saying C.Ronaldo is boss with both feet so why isn't everyone else? Lahm is world class and one of the very very best - as a means of justifying my point can you name any other predominantly right footed left backs who've had a lot of success John?

Agree0 Disagree0

You've obviously watched a lot of Bayern and Lahm Seano - I haven't, but Lahm looked very, very ordinary to me against United the other night.

As a break from the speculation surrounding our chances of league success wanted to know every ones response to the following:

1) Best goal by a Liverpool player

2) Favourite goal by a Liverpool Player

3) Best goal by a non-Liverpool player

4) favourite goal by a non-Liverpool player

For me (bear in mind I'm 29 so anything pre '95 is rather hazy):

1 - Suarez goal vs Norwich this season, the 2nd one where he flicked it past the defender and smashed it on the half volley. (Gerrard's vs United a close second).

2 - Gerrard vs Olympiakos

3 - Bergkamp vs Argentina

4 - Ronaldinho vs Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, the one where he did a swivel then just buried the ball in the corner from 20 yards - still the greatest technique I have ever seen.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Best goal - terry mac lfc 7 spurs 0 - best goal ever, 3 passes and a header goalie to goal in the blink of an eye.

fav goal fairclough against st etienne - just for the drama and the atmosphere

maradonna against england when he took the whole team on by himself(not the hand of god goal)

fav goal non lfc - any one that beat scumchester united - philippe albert chip over schmiechel newcastle 5 utd 0

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm only 18, so my football memories are very limited!

1) Best goal by a Liverpool player - I have always loved Fernando Torres' goal at home to Sunderland. Reina hoofed it to him on the left wing, he cut inside and lobbed the GK with a high curling shot into the top corner. He couldn't do that nowadays, but my word what a goal!

2) Favourite goal by a Liverpool Player - has to be Gerrard vs West Ham, FA Cup Final 2006

3) Best goal by a non-Liverpool player - Zinedine Zidane, left foot (weaker foot) volley vs Bayer Leverkusen, Champions League final 2002.

4) Favourite goal by a non-Liverpool player - "Aguerrrrrrooooooooooooooo!! I swear you will never see anything like this ever again!" You know which one this is ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats a tough one but here goes:

1) Gerrard's 2nd Fa cup final 06
2) Gerrard's 2nd Fa cup final 06
3) Henry against us in 04/05 season I think
4) Ineista against chelsea cl semi final 09 I think

Agree0 Disagree0

Gerrard - What a hit son.

Suarez 3rd vs Norwich - (the 2nd was the flick into the net from the corner)

Ibrahimovic - Sweden vs England

Ibrahimovic - Ajax vs Nac Breda

Dont really like Ibrah that much but his goals are insane.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pressed send by mistake!

1) Suarez vs Norwich (halfway line)

2) Gerrard FA cup final 2nd goal

3) Messi halfway line run (can't remember who it was against, carbon copy of Maradonna's)

4) Ibrahimovic overhead kick vs England.

Agree0 Disagree0

Showing my lack of years a bit here:

1) Gerrard vs. Marseilles in the 08/09 CL (I think!). Ball was cut back to him in the right hand channel about 25 yards out, and it was actually played slightly behind him. But without even seeming to look, he chipped over the goalie and into the top left corner with a first time shot.

2) Probably the one above tbh. As a close 2nd, I'd Fowler's in the UEFA Cup Final in 2001. Not just because it was a good goal, but because it was Fowler and he was being forced to play 2nd fiddle to Owen and Heskey.

3) Rivaldo (Barcelona) vs. Valencia in 2001. The final goal in 'that' hat trick. With most of the Valencia team in their own third, he found the time and space to chest and average lobbed pass into the air and overhead kick it into the net. Oh, and if he hadn't scored it Barca would've missed out on a CL place.

4) Pat Sullivan (Shamrock Rovers) vs. Partizan Belgrade. 1-0 down away from home in the last qualifying round for the Europa League groups (which no Irish team had reached before), and a clearance from a corner drops to him 25 yards out and he caught it perfectly on the volley into the back of the net. Rovers won in extra time.

Agree0 Disagree0

1) Gerrard vs Olympiakos
2) Smicer in the '05 Champions league final
3) Ibrahimovic vs England
4) Aguero's famous goal against QPR

While that may be right has anyone thought crystal palace will have a huge say in where the title goes?
Palace in there last 7 fixtures face Liverpool, city and chelsea at home
They've already beaten chelsea and left the race wide open and with city and Liverpool still to visit they could have a big say.

Can you see us being given 30m to sign a left back even though luke shaw supports fsg policy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Luke Shaw's a brilliant young left back, but 30 million? No thanks. Why not just bid 20 million and get Rodriguez or Moreno if we have that much cash to spend?
I personally see Siquiera or Bertrand coming in. Both cheap and have a fair amount of experience on the european stage.

Agree0 Disagree0

No. Luke shaw wants to go to Chelsea and Chelsea want him. We would never spend that on him, it's hardly buying young and cheap and developing is it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely the question should be is why would you spend £30 million on a left back?

Agree0 Disagree0

That would be a rip off. Pretty sure FSG feel they have been ripped off in the transfer market enough over the years.

Agree0 Disagree0

It would be stupid to spend what I would imagine to be almost all of our transfer budget on a player who wants to play for Chelsea and who, despite his obvious talent, could not be justified at that price. I think for the sake of the squad we'd be better off looking elsewhere.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to agree with Seano. For me, Shaw isn't worth near what would be asked for him. He's a good prospect no doubt, but I think entirely overrated at present and it would be relying on 'potential' coming good which is always an unknown. I don't think he's as good going forward as many think- He's created about the same number of chances as Johnson in far more game time and has the same number of assists as Flanagan with far more game time.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm honestly expecting us to go for Bertrand while Chelsea sign Shaw, even if we do win the league. I wouldn't be too unhappy with that as he is pretty good and I think BR could get the best out of him. I know we want to aim higher than "pretty good", especially with CL, but the fact is we lose 50m a year and that needs to stop. I'm not expecting large activity this summer, but whatever happens I trust Brendan completely.

Evening all,

Poor Assaidi! Fella looks like he just wants to play football but I think his analysis is pretty spot on, I can't see him really going any further with Liverpool at this point. Also as someone pointed out before, in all the photos etc. (I know it's not a whole lot to go by) he just looks like he's got no mates at Liverpool! Dead cert to move to Stoke or a similar team for me, especially as he will probably turn a profit given that we signed him for 2.5M or whatever it was.

On another note, I know lots of 'transfer rumours' get thrown about which is largely paper talk and football hipsters who play a lot of Football Manager ("Any interest in Russianthirddivisionwonderkidinski Eds" etc. etc.), but just out of interest, who are we ACTUALLY monitoring/looking to sign? Does anyone know? Anything to report Eds?

YNWA,

-DSR

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mate, we are monitoring many players, perhaps at least 44 (4 for each position ;) But probably over a hundred; I don't think the eds will be able to answer "monitoring" questions. I am also very curious which players we will target, but it will be a long process, due to the world cup, and clinching automatic CL qualification will also have a huge impact; judging by ed answers, we are still keeping track of Will Highes and several other more offensive CMs like Parejo, and have shifted attention away from Kono and Bertrand, which were definite targets at one point. Things can change fast come summer though, so we are in for an interesting transfer window!

Agree0 Disagree0

Eds I have written a summary of all players we are looking at
Still not posted any idea?

{Ed007's Note - I've had a look around buddy but there's no sign of it, if you still have it saved send it back in. It isn't even showing up on your posting history.}

Chelsea-PSG macth at bridge worries me. If PSG fail to reach the semis, They would come with a ridiculous offer for Suarez. If chelsea looses out from the competition, they have only league title left then.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We should focus on west ham, and west ham only, one step at a time my friend

Agree0 Disagree0

How did you get to that conclusion?

Agree0 Disagree0

I was hoping to see Chelski go through to the semis, not only to boost the premier league coefficient but also the fact that the semi finals are on either side of their game with us. But looks like that won't happen now. Gutted tbh.

Pretty simple, What else PSG / City actually does when they loose?. They buy, More buy, And more buy.
Ronaldo won't move, So do Messi, Whose left?, Suarez.

Agree0 Disagree0

So psg getting knocked out means that they will buy suarez haha ok harry

Agree0 Disagree0

Bayern, Barca and Real are teams I would consider the best to play in for "footballing reasons" (not just cash).

PSG, UTD, Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Dortmund, Athletico, Juventus etc. are not teams that would be any better to play for than Liverpool currently.

Suarez has a team built around him in a league he knows he is well settled, with fans that adore him and other players that respect his footballing genius, he has a guarenteed starting place and high wages. The club he has stuck with have now started looking like a force that can challenge in europe as well as domestically.

What exactly is the lure of playing for any other team at the moment?

Too many people are quick to jump on the media band wagon despite constant reminders of the tripe that they write just to sell papers.

Agree0 Disagree0

It would take a staggering financial offer for us to let Suarez go and I suspect there are other world class forwards who Madrid/PSG/etc would go for who would not break the bank in quite the same way. You can never say never but I think to say PSG knocked out of CL = they will buy Suarez is quite a stretch.

I was wondering if the season finished as it is now, what 'Pot' would we be in for the Champions league group draw?
Would winning the league have any significance on the seeding we get or not?
I hope we are not in 'pot' 3 or 4, because we will probably face 2 difficult teams.
Cheers, YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Even if LFC win the EPL the best they can hope for is to be in Pot 3 of the CL group draw. LFC are currently sitting in 32nd spot of UEFA's coefficient table, which is based on the club's results in both European competitions over the last five years.}

It matters not we have a 50% chance of progressing whoever we get, thanks to our Anfield dominance.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You're probably right there, buddy. Over the years I've seen Celtic beat some of the best teams in Europe at Celtic Park. I think strong partisan crowds always helps in European games.}

50%- much more than that
If I was one of the big European teams I would fear coming to Anfield

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers for the reply, fingers crossed for pot3 then

Agree0 Disagree0

Best not to worry too much. Being in group 3 or 4 can produce anything from a winnable group to a group of death. We have the history, the team and the ground to be able to cope with the bulk of what Europe has to offer now anyway. We might have to play some hard teams but don't forget they have to also play us. 1 good result could get the ball rolling.

Agree0 Disagree0

We are a good enough team in our own right to cause anyone problems. Obviously I would not want us in a "group of death" but I think, whether we are in pot 3 or 4, that all the big teams will be looking to avoid drawing us.

Agree0 Disagree0

The 'pots' are not determined by league positions, league positions only determine who are involved in CL.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's other teams that are going to fear being in our group.
