Hi all quick question
If arsenal got suarez do you think they might add
theo walcott he would give us extra firepower, thanks keep up the good work

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why would you want Walcott?

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2013 21:22:43
I SAY SELL SUAREZ!

BR is making as if LFC are desperate for him, the club is bigger always is and always will be.

If Everton offered big money he would even stab us in the heart and probably want to go there too.

Bottom line he is disrespecting LFC and that is starting to annoy me.

BR needs a PR person to handle the media he is doing an appalling job.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think BR and Liverpool in general are handling LS just fine . If he goes so be it but he should go on our terms not his, I'm sure plans are in place should this happen . If he stays again so be it, we have a world class player who I'm sure will still give his all.
PR wise we haven't been to savvy in the last few years, keeping our powder dry for me is the way to go.

TJ96 mate I think fans made it clear today, they want Suarez to stay, that's another matter if he stays or leaves but majority of real fans, players, management etc have mad it clear that they want Suarez to stay including our "Great" captain!

Agree0 Disagree0

He's doing the business side of drumming up the price and making it not impossible for Suarez to play if an acceptable offer doesn't come in. Suarez needs the PR guy can't blame Rodgers for this it started with Suarez

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2013 21:18:37
The content of this site is absolute quality after those Sign Ups. Great work eds!
And, what diiference that the comments of BR, Ayre cum out and say Suarez is not for sale to the transfer fee of Suarez when every man and his dog of this world know Suarez wants out. When Falcao and Cavani wants out they were sold for thier release clause not for lower fees.
And, my impression is that Liverpool wants Suarez to stay. that's what BR, Ayre and Stevie G Staying. For his antics and disrespect shown towards us I want Suarez out, but if the management want to keep him I had to respect the decision.

And, we had to take Juventus as an example the team which finished 7th place three seasons ago and Bounce back with back to back League titles and competing for europe. Even without the recogonised striker who can hit 20 goals a season.

Our club needs a Moral support. When the fans give the voices in full support in Matches and backing our Players we are not far off repeating the Juventus glory in England.

P.s Sorry for Poor English

Your English is better than most English people mate.

R u serious?

Agree0 Disagree0

Nicely said and good point about juventus, I think that's what the Ed's havin sayin and BR also about how they want more players to chip in with goals.

Also agree with above, your English is better than most English people, no need to apologize for your 'poor English'

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice post harisengg, points well made, and your written english is fine too, apologies not needed.

I thought the squad looked very good today. Although we need one more quality player so that Allen is not in our regular 11. I know he's BR's guy but he is just not good enough. He gave the ball away cheaply in awful places and we were lucky not to concede today. Obviously LS/his replacement or Sturridge being healthy would change the look of the side, but I think that we are one quality signing away from really making a push for the CL. I think BR realizes this and I can't wait to see who we bring in.

After watching the Stevie G testimonial and seeing how much support was given to Louis Suarez surely he should realise that he would be making a big mistake by leaving the mighty reds.
If Louis still wants to leave after today I would let him go to the highest bidder because after all he certainly showing no loyalty to LFC.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Our kid says that Luis hasn't gone to SG's night do!
Family emergency or something.
Dunno if that's right or not.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, bags of energy and potential.

Agree0 Disagree0

I always have, he joined very young. don't think we'll ever sell him for what we paid but if we can keep hold of him, his contribution will be worth every penny. More goals from him this season as well, started to see it last season!

Henderson to me is jus a quality player and could be world class, not jus his play but the way he handles himself, very mature and professional, future role model for kids.

Agree0 Disagree0

I like Hendo, first class attitude, under 21 England Captain, great workrate and skillful. His passion to improve is there for all to see. He will become a big player for us in time.

I think he is going to be come a fantastic player. He needs to carry on his improvement from last season, hopefully he will get the opportunity?

Now that we're all registering (what a positive difference already, by the way), will you be answering finance related questions again?

I've just seen the link that Ed001 posted over on the Spurs site, to the blogger, who has written a detailed piece on Premier League club finances

http://tinyurl.com/kwls5eg

Wow, very scary! Good luck and humble thanks is all I can say to our owners, after reading the article.

Just like to add my thanks to all of you for the effort you put into the site. Highly addictive and great fun, particularly now that much of the bile seems to have disappeared.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That article was fantastic. It really puts into perspective the reality of why we need to be spending wisely. It would suck to finally get back to the CL and be told you can't compete because of the debt.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think every body should read this, it definately explains why the club is doing its business the way it is! It also shows that we lag behind massively in the commercial revenue department!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Aug 2013 20:00:35
Just signed up. Must say this format seems better for everyone and the content seems to have improved.Thought I would contribute some positivity, as I usually just berate trolls.
I can't remember the last time we have a had a preseason that has gone so well. Obviously it would be wise not to get carried away, but at the least it cab set the tone for the start of the season. We need to win the first two matches to set the tone and tempo needed for a push on cl spots.

Yes Luis is one of the best players in the world, and we need to keep our best players to be more competitive. But look at the facts, we have played a lot of football without him and played better as a team. Other players ha e had their chance to shine, and deservedly so. Luis was also to blame for the points difference between us and the top four last season, how can we compete with our best players banned all the time? His refusal to accept any responsibility and his disgraceful treatment of our club has left us with no choice but to move him on, with our cards close to our chest. The club has handled it well given the circumstances.

Further shrewd and astute signings will put us in good shape for the new season. But I understand some fans frustration, whilst watching city and Chelsea strengthen with proven class, whilst we develop. Take into consideration that spurs and arsenal were out of the top four for awhile, and they have built back up and are in strong positions.
Have patience, it is impossible to keep a club with our stature down for forever. Believe in BR and believe in the team and they will believe in themselves. The owners and the team are on the same page for the first time in years. We have some of the most promising players, improving and growing every day. The journey can be just as enjoyable as the destination.
Ynwa.

Lucas was an absolute monster today, my man of the match, he broke everything down and his passing was brilliant. so under rated by many.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed, a resurgence of the Lucas haters of late and they refuse to accept the fact our team is better with him in it. We lose and concede a lot less with him in the squad. Would like some cover for him though, would provide some healthy competition too.

Hi eds how come Liverpool haven't shown any interest in Marcelo? He's exactly the type if LB we need and he's second choice at Madrid plus there trying to sign that Brazilian LB we've been linked with to, obviously he's not the first choice. {Ed002's Note - That is a Dear Mr Rodgers question. They are looking to Siqueira as a Coentrao replacement.}

Hi Eds, great work on the site. It's interesting to see these loan to buy deals go through. I wonder if we will start to see more and more of them, if you get a couple of mill loan fee and get the players wages off the books it can easily add up to several million over a year, and still leaves the possibility of selling the player at the end of the loan. E.g. 2 mill loan fee plus 60k * 52wks = 5.1m. So it isn't as crazy as it sounds to loan a player out, especially if he would just be sat on the Liverpool bench loosing value.

And let's hope donegal can raise their game to last years standards tomorrow in the all Ireland quarterfinal against mayo! {Ed001's Note - he struggled out on loan, he really needs another loan where he will get regular first team football to assess him properly.}

Liverpool fans please explain why pepe reina a fine servant to lfc recieved so little support in fact it bordered on abusive at times on this site over the last few days, and then there is LS who has shown utter contempt to the fans and your club gets a fantastic reception today, since when did Liverpool fans become two faced hypocrites.time to grow a pair ffs {Ed002's Note - Let's not forget this is Happy Post Day.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Reina had flirted with Barca for ages, Rogers called his bluff. End of.

Agree0 Disagree0

Firstly, Anfield and his forum are two completely different things and are not comparable. Secondly there are a lot of fans who are still in the opinion that Luis is not behaving in such a way, and will probably lay the blame on the owners and BR. Third and finally, it was better then boo-ing and jeering him. Shows we have more class then. Well, some of us.
Why are you on another fan forum starting fires?

Agree0 Disagree0

I expect the people at Anfield today would have given Pepe a similar reception, if we had been playing Napoli, in fact I know they would.You can't group us altogether as hypocrites as we all have our own opinions.I support the team and whoever pulls that shirt on.I don't go to games to Boo people, I go to pantomimes to do that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Because reina showed little in the way of loyalty in the last few years.
Although to be fair it was a little bit harsh, he does love the club, he just wanted to go home.

MIKEY

Agree0 Disagree0

You are making the of mistake thinking that the average match going fans and the average internet forum poster are the same people.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know if I have an answer that will satisfy you, but I believe your criticism towards the fans who cheered Luis Suarez today is based on a faulty assumption.
Perhaps you should entertain the idea that the 'Internet' fan and the 'ground' fan are two different animals altogether (just an expression). If you are passionate and fortunate enough to be able to go to the game in person, perhaps it says something about your love for the club and everyone who defends its colours. It is possible that such a fan doesn't know or care about what is reported in the papers or on the net. If that is the case then the only thing you know or care about is the fact that Suarez, when on the pitch, literally will do anything to win.
Dirk kuyt ran himself to the ground for years, never have I heard fans be critical of him during games, however he was often a target on this site. I might have joined in on the 'fun' once or twice myself. Anyone can sit behind a keyboard and show contempt towards players, managers, owners and their wives; but until the fans on the ground start to massively behave in such manners, I'd have to say that I disagree with your assessment of the Liverpool fans.
What motivates someone to go online and show contempt? Is it love for the club? Hate? Narcissism? All of the above? Or, could it be that some of us are so passionate about LFC that we are willing to do (type) almost anything to 'help'? Perhaps, we (Internet fans) all have a little bit of Luis Suarez in us.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2013 18:40:47
Hi Ed's, in the player round-up section you mention how Gaitn from Benfica would be very expensive to buy. I'm just thinking if Suarez were to leave, we could look at overpaying for someone like him. If we got say £50m for Luis, some of it surely will be re-invested, and he'd fit well on our left side. Are we talking $30m? $35m? $40m? Anything above $35m would be not worth it in my opinion. A reply would be great, I'm thinking of registering too. RC {Ed002's Note - You want replies, then register.}

Can`t complain on results and clean sheets of course, but a little worried that our rivals are playing games against much better teams, thoughts?

Also only one worry for me today and that was Enrique, just not the man we need as first choice. {Ed002's Note - In terms of left backs, I can now confirm that Real Madrid are also looking at Granada's Guilherme Siqueira. This would be as a potential replacement for Coentrao. As we know, there has been interest shown by Galatasaray, Fulham, Liverpool, Everton and Lille. The interest of RM remained unconfirmed until a breakfast briefing in Los Angeles this morning.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Completely agree on the LB front Matt.
I seriously hope we try for Guilherme Siqueira before RM make their move as he is that good that he will effectively replace Enrique. But if RM come calling then we don't have much chance. {Ed002's Note - You should sign up.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Matt

My mates and I were discussing the exact same thing after the match.

Whilst the old adage of beating the team you play on the day still stands true, we all came to the same conclusion that whilst results have been positive, and the Australasian tour seemed a complete success in terms of finance, rapport and no doubt fitness (those conditions are torturous but beneficial), we still don't know how much, if any progression has been made.

In terms of our defence we all concluded that Mingolet and Troure haven't been put under any real pressure, and as such we couldn't say whether we are stronger or weaker at the back then last season.

From my perspective if Skrtel goes (and I'm sure he is heading to Napoli on loan), then a centre back is definitely needed, I don't honestly think Rodgers believes Troure will play the whole season, so given Skrtel's lack of play at the back end of the season I can't believe another centre back wasn't brought in earlier to create that understanding.

I'm not a fan of Joe Allen, however today he got further forward then at anytime that I can remember last season, and not only forward, but actually in the box, which is something that we have lacked from midfield for some time - midfielders getting into the box to support and add numbers. That said, he still under hits his passes on a lot of occasions.

Aspas looked sharp in the first half but went missing in the second, fitness? As a collective group we thought this might unfortunately be a common occurrence (although very early days). Whilst on "early days", and new players, we again agreed that Luis Alberto might well struggle in his first season, he seems slightly lightweight - almost a Borini double?

As a group we were all ecstatic about the crowds reception for Suarez, whilst we might be in the minority, we ALL would like him to stay, but given our realistic nature's we know if, or when Real (the second most vile team on the planet after a certain team from Manchester), put in an offer, the club will sell.

Finally, I thought Stevie adopted a slightly more deeper position on the field today (first half), which actually made Lucas look more assured then he has for quite a while.

Perhaps Valerenga or Celtic will provide a sterner test for our defence. {Ed002's Note - You need to register otherwise posts like this wll unfortunately be deleted.}

Agree0 Disagree0

^^^

Added to that, there are a few young faces in the team. I just fear for those nights when other teams pack the defence and mid-field and try to bully LFC players off the ball.
Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I feel it will down quickly on everyone that tiki-taka/or whatever variation of it can't be the plan A, B and C in this league.
You just watch!

Liverpool's no8. oh how I wish he was 20 again

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thought his legs were starting to go the season before last, but obviously not! He had a great season fitness/injury wise last season, and things look good for him now. Hopefully we can see him at Anfield for a few more seasons yet.

As regards today's game, lots of positives - Allen, Aspas, Toure, Sterling looks stronger and frighteningly quick, we played the ball around nicely - not sure how off the boil Olympiacos were or maybe we just made them look that way. Left back looked the only real weakness, maybe a bit more fire power upfront. I think a player like Costa would be an ideal foil upfront. I really don't think we are that far away - can't wait for Stoke.

Agree0 Disagree0

A 20 yr old Fowler would also be fantastic.What a team we would have then, hey.

On the way back from the match today . Aspas showed some good touches I was impressed, only really seen him on YouTube so was good to see him. Sterling was looking sharp, and apart from missing an open goal allen was looking good which was good to see as he seems to get a lot of stick.
I've been a fan of Enrique but in my opinion he was the weak link in the team.

Good to see the support there for Gerrard today.

So Clint Dempsey is being sold to an MLS team. did he do 1.5 seasons at Spurs? I think we had a lucky escape, with or without any proven strikers at the time.
Think Rodgers is handling the Suarez drama brilliantly. roll on the Stoke game.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I like Dempsey quite a lot to be honest and still think it would have been interesting to see what he could have done at LFC (he's far better than he showed at Spurs). Wish him well at Seattle which offers about the closest thing to a English match day experience I can think of in the MLS. {Ed002's Note - I was born just outside of Seattle.}

RDL I agree he would have been an interesting addition. He could of linked nicely in the middle with Coutinho/Suarez. Definitely under utilized at Spurs. They'll love him there at the Sounders. Kinda proud as an American football fan to see the atmosphere at their games. MLS has come a long way from the Tampa Bay Mutiny and generally lacking any identity or authenticity.

Despite very average opposition, I thought the team played really well. Lucas was huge in the anchor role allowing Allen to push further forward to great effect. Lucas seems to be playing his way back to his pre-first major injury form. Toure and Agger have clicked. any update on Agger's knee? Sterling is back to his early season form and Aspas seems like a really good addition. My only thought on all the BR additions is that they are in exactly the same mold. slight, fast, great touch. Nothing wrong with any of that but would love to see a McMahon/Souness type of player added, particularly when playing some of the more physical dogged type of teams.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed- thought Lucas looked very, very sharp today. Kinda wish he had taken the shot from the edge of the box though ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Think Lucas-Allen will be a popular pairing in the middle this season for BR. 2-behind-1 in a midfield 3 with a dynamic front 3, as he's always envisaged.

I read this site every day and the general feeling is that most fans are spoilt and find any excuse to bitch and moan about anything and everything, FSG are absolute hero's in my opinion, they saved the club! But what really winds me up is people moaning about money being spent, or lack of it!? Whether or not the players where right they've sanctioned HUGE amounts of money and backed managers as best they can, it's like people can't see it. If we don't sign Costa (despite fans seemingly hating him already) it'll be another "I can't believe we missed out" moment.

its so sad and embarrassing when Ed02 has to state how much abuse the editors get every day it's sad to know that descent fans/posters are being let down by some people. Hello Eds,
1. Just wanted to ask how many more players do you see us bringing IN?
I reckon it is clear that BR wants 2 players regardless of outs - an attacker (Diego Costa) and a LB. So with Skrtel and possibly Suarez leaving we will definitely need two more in to replace them.

2. Do you reckon Downing could be on his way out?
He really is not the preferred attacker with even Sterling and now Ibe ahead of him. {Ed002's Note - I would expect 2 or 3 depending on who leaves. Downing I don't know.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Aug 2013 17:04:49
I couldn't care less if Suarez stays or not.
For him to leave would be my preference but if he doesn't I'd take the best of him for as long as possible.
Do you think there may be an option from somebody to take him in January or next season and that he could stay until then?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Make your mind up lad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why should Chris make his mind up. I am of the same opinion. Suarez is not an ambassador to the club and never will be, his job is to score and create goals, if he stays another season and gives us 20->25 goals, this is extra points that will only benefit the club, I will cheer if he scores and hope the rest of our fans do the same.
If he leaves tomorrow, so be it . someone else will score these goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am still 50/50 on whether I want Suarez to stay or go, if he does stay, we should give him our full support .

As I understand the Costa situation, Liverpool do not need to negotiate with Atletico Madrid over the price. if they fulfill all the legal and tax requirements of the release clause in Diego Costa's contract then Costa can move if the correct amount is paid.

The release clause is a legal requirement in all Spanish contracts and is negotiated with the player and his representative at the time of signing the contract. It is meant to prevent a club stopping a player that wants to move, moving.

Liverpool need to negotiate with Costa and if he is willing to come then the amount stipulated in the account is transferred to Atletico and he must be allowed to leave.

Liverpool can negotiate things with the club such as price, instalment plan and it is upto Atletico to agree, but if Liverpool pay the amount under the terms of the players release clause then Atletico by law cannot stop the player from transferring.

This is what happened when Figo left from Barcelona to Real Madrid. Florentino Perez negotiated a legal contract with Figo that said that if Perez won the Real Madrid presidency he would pay the buy out for Figo from Barcelona. At the time Perez was very much the underdog versus a president that had just won the Champions league. so Figo saw this as a way of negotiating a better deal with Barcelona. he did not want to leave. Perez began saying who he would sign and he won the election. The first day he was in the president's office he paid the full amount into Barcelona's account and because Figo had signed a legal document with Perez he was forced to go.

Therefore, if Liverpool are negotiating to buy Diego Costa it possibly does not need a bid to be placed with Atletico. they may negotiate terms with Costa he agrees, Liverpool deposit the fee in the atletico account or via Costa's as he is the one that is effectively buying out his contract and the deal is done.

That is how I understand it gets done, so atletico's statements maybe true they have not received a bid but they do not need to.

Also any team losing a player during the final days of the transfer window to a release clause have extra time after the window shuts to find a replacement. {Ed002's Note - I think you have misunderstood how all of this works.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Isn't everything you have just mentioned called 'taping up'? Not too keen on the Pool doing that

Agree0 Disagree0

No it is not tapping up

1. All release clauses are for the public record as they are registered with the Spanish Football Federation. Messi for example has a release clause of something like 1 billion euros.

2. As they are public a buying team knows what it will take to buy the player. They know the terms and conditions of the buy out clause and if they are prepared to meet that then the selling team cannot object. This is because the selling team has already agreed these conditions.

3.Yes they can negotiate a lower price but that would require negotiation through the club before anything can happen, just like in the Uk.

4. This is the big problem with the Suarez situation. He thought it was a release clause but it was not.

5. Clubs renegotiate a release clause if a player gets better by offering the player better terms. This has happened this summer with Tello, who has had a bump in salary but agreed to a higher release clause in return.

6. It is a sensible solution Asti says to a player that if a club does not want to lose you another club must pay this to get you. Arsenal would know exactly what it would take to get Suarez. Suarez would know what was needed to be paid and Liverpool do not need to be forced by Suarez histrionics to sell unless the conditions are met.

7. Negotiations tend to happen when a team wants to buy a player but thinks the release clause is too high. This happened with Soldado to Tottenham and Illramendi to Real Madrid. In the end both clubs paid the release clause because the buying club does not need to accept.

{Ed002's Note - I think you have misunderstood something about all of this.}

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2013 11:35:26
Ed02, as I stated above, it is how I understand how the release clause works. It is how it was explained to me by a Lawyer here in Spain.

I am willing to admit that I maybe wrong but Ed02 why do you not explain why I have misunderstood and explain how it works. I am sure most people in here are interested as well. {Ed002's Note - Unfortunately I think you have been given a rather confusing and incorrect account of things. I don't want to get in to picking it apart point by point but you mention "buy out" clauses without recognising that these are significantly different and rare animals. I have explained the various types of clause before and it should be easy to find. I have also explained that dispute that exists over the clause in Suarez's contract and it is not as you suggest nor as it has perhaps been misreported in the media. The critical point remains that any offers and negotiation has to be done with the holder of the player's registration.}

Aspas looked very promising today, think he has the potential to be a real fan favourite.

We could have some real fire power next season, i'm cautiously optimistic.

If we can somehow manage to keep hold of Suarez, then an interchanging front three of Suarez, Sturridge and Aspas will be very exciting.

With costa maybe coming in, and the likes of Ibe and Sterling on the bench we will have plenty of depth and competition for places. With only Suarez being the mainstay (hopefully)

I really don't see where downing and Borini come in to the equation, and can see downing being moved on late in the transfer window if we get some more signings in. I think Borini will stay but he has a tough job on his hands, and really has to make an impact when he gets his chance.

If there is going to be a poll for bargain buy of this season next May, I have already decided its got to be Aspas. For 7.7 million, he is an absolute steal. Well done to our new scouting committee, first Sturridge and Coutinho, and now Aspas.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

BR and the scouting set up know the Spanish leagues inside out, so it's unlikely we'd ever buy badly from there. Aspas will be the new Luis Garcia, the cheeky little monkey! Just hope he's not stuck on the bench all year once Sturridge is back.

Allen looked a lot sharper and more eager to get forward. Agger has looked really solid in pre season, hope is knee is ok. Sterling looked really fresh a passed well. Coutinho is going to be a star. His vision is fantastic and he has the execution to go with it.
Absolutely love the passion that Henderson shows when he scores. It didn't matter that it was a testimonial he'd just scored for Liverpool and it felt great. I'd celebrate like that if I scored outside Anfield! Mind you I celebrate like that on Pro Evo ha ha,

If Skrtel is likely being loaned to Napoli as people are suggesting I can't see us selling Agger to Barcelona, especially since it'll be either him or Lucas for vice-Captain.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Todays agger injury was a ploy frm us to put off barcelona
so relax. because as far as I know he won't be moving this season

Hi Eds

How's the non troll day going? Looks pretty good to me!

Maybe we can make this a feature of game day? Or is that asking too much for people to be positive (or constructively negative) for that many times over a season?

Keep it up! {Ed002's Note - BY the time the games start we should be in much better shape.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think that having only registered posters on the site will help a lot in that department, sure they will be out in force during the first couple of games if we go a goal down, miss a sitter or rodgers brings on allen. but when it works out in our favour we know who has to answer for the trolling

Just want to say what a great game for Stevie G!
Its becoming very rare for one player to stay at one club never mind be the captain for so many years.
would have been great if he scored but I was impressed by some of the fast passing and movement. Also pity fowler didn't score I thought it was in nearly dropped my beer on the parrot!

Liverpool looked slick today, if we start the season like that there will be no worries, Allen was excellent today, maybe the negs will lay off him now, Aspas looks the part too, well played redmen.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Allen was excellent, could of had a hat-trick but I think we can let him off! its so promising seeing him getting in advanced roles. Hoping he has a really good season and proves the doubters wrong!

Aspas was also very lively, some really exciting flicks and turns, works hard too. can see him being a success.

Was a really good game to watch, smashing first half from the likes of Allen and Sterling. Aspas also impressed and looked lively. Lucas commanded the centre of the park and looked fitter than he has for a while. Credit to the fans who made today a great occasion for our Captain Fantastic and what a reception for Fowler!
Overall performance was good and with a couple of additions this squad looks in good shape going into the new season.
Ps - I hope agger remains injury free, we really cannot afford to lose our best defender.

Our general passing game looked very good today I thought. Lucas seemed to have that yard of pace back in him that he had a couple of seasons ago, fingers crossed it stays that way.

Hats off to Joe Allen and Iago Aspas, both of them worked tirelessly today and Henderson's celebrations are always great to watch, you can tell every goal means the world to him. Nice surprise to see Allen and Henderson as the scorers - in a match dedicated to our most prolific midfielder, two of the young midfielders step up to the plate.

Also, it's been a pleasure reading this site today, everyone has been in great spirits. Good effort guys. Makes a really refreshing change, this is what the LFC fans are really like!

Hey guys Arsenal fan here (in peace)

What offer would you guys like to see Suarez go for (regarding the club it is)?

On an unrelated topic I also want to say about Sterling.
Great pace, skills, crossing, finishing! He's only 18(?) as well so he's sensational getting an England call-up (even though it was a friendly) and he's got lots of time to mature.

I can definitely see him and chamberlain on the wings for England in the future

Thx, anyways

Lucas {Ed002's Note - Lucas - you need to look to registering for the site now.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If he has to go I personally don't care where to as long as it's abroad. We've all seen how well the team is progressing under Rodgers so top four HAS to be our ambition this season therefore we obviously can't strengthen any English team.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would be happy with 45-50 million and am not bothered where he ends up, as long as we get the best price possible. We need to focus solely upon our club and improving its performance and spend less time worrying about what everybody else is doing.

I have a soft spot for Arsenal, a very classy club, so if Suarez does go to you, hopefully he will do well (although not against us) and will behave himself.

Who's your favourite Liverpool player ever? After today's match it got me thinking, I was always partial to Beardsley and Staunton but I think over all for me it has to be Souness. Gerrard is a great player no doubt but Souness was the greatest in a team of legends.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Steve Nicol or Rob Jones for me :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Barnes for me, but Gerrard and Dalglish come very close!

Agree0 Disagree0

Big Digger Barnes, class and then some!

Agree0 Disagree0

For me it has to be Stevie. I think it depends on what generation you grew up in.

Agree0 Disagree0

My top 3 are Dalglish, Barnes and then Souness .

Agree0 Disagree0

Favourite ever was Ray Kennedy, who remains, in my view, shockingly underrated

I will never forget his goal in the 1981 European Cup semi-final versus Bayern Munich, that took us through to the final. It was one of our greatest ever achievements, as Bayern were formidable and had an unbelievable record at the Olympic Stadium at the time; think that they had some crazy record of never having lost or drawn a European Cup game, in the Olympic Stadium, until that night.

Kenny was kicked out of the game within the first ten minutes and later on, a young guy called Howard Gale, a complete unknown, came on and tore Bayern apart. Kennedy scored around ten minutes from the end, with a sublime goal. Although Rummenigge equalised just before the end, we went through on the away goals. The Saint Etienne game, at Anfield, in 1977 will always be my most memorable game but the Munich game is not far behind and doesn't often get the recognition that it deserves.

I read somewhere that Bob Paisley considered it his greatest achievement in Europe, which is saying something. I think that he also said that he had more inquiries about Ray than any other player, while he was Liverpool manager, which is a reflection of how highly regarded he was at the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ian Callaghan & Peter Thompson on the wings. Or so proud to watch Roger Hunt in England's World Cup winning team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Has to be Captain Fantastic for me. Apart from Carra, he is the only LFC legend I have watched play. If only I had been a bit older, could have watched the likes of Fowler etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

There have been better players, but Kevin Keegan was the guy that got me into Liverpool, so he will always be up there for me.

First football memory was the '74 FA Cup Final and Mighty Mouse was sublime. We talk about a fluid top three today, but what I would do to have Keegan, Toshack & Heighway back. !

I want Suarez out. I've never seen someone throw there hands around every time he looses the ball, he's frustrated he wants to leave so sell him. I think we'll be stronger without him, get 50m for him sign to quality wide men so coutinho can play through the middle with sturridge up top! I've had enough of him, the amount of times he gives the ball away to, last season aswell he may have scored 30 goals but how meny goal did we concede from being hit on the brake with him trying to do it all himself! I think spurs will be stronger without bale and we will be stronger without Suarez!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi, I didn't get to see the game today but Sky+ it for later. Did he do that again today then? Was it just frustration because he wanted to score or was it petulance do you think? Cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair I think he was probably more frustrated with himself for losing the ball.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have just got back from the game and I thought Suarez and the fans showed equal respect.He's always done that in games.Please don't try and turn it into something more.We all know he's not happy, but as I said before I thought respect was shown by both him and the fans alike.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes he was frustrated at him self but u can also see every time a pass comes his way that he doesn't receive he's throwing his hands up again an shaking his head. He looks overweight to, for a guy who's only had a 2 week Holliday he should be in much better shape! If u look at when he come on from the bench it shows you borini looking at him shaking his head, I guess it frustration on borinis part but u can just sence that he's causing unrest with the players. I'd much rather see who we can buy with the 50m and I'd be pretty excited to. Suarez out

Hi eds and reds
I know there has been a lot of negativity and people calling for big signings and of course as fans we would all like to see a couple more top players brought in to improve the first eleven and the depth of the squad, but I for one am very happy with our summer so far.
I believe that had we had coutinho all of last season then we would have challenged for Europa league, if we had sturridge and coutinho all season then I believe we would have challenged for champions league.
This leaves fans thinking if we lost Suarez we would be back to square one, however I don't believe this to be the case as I think it is clear from pre season there are a lot of positives.
The defence will be improved this season as mignolet is more consistent than Reina and with Kelly back to fitness and wisdom more experienced and playing centrally then if we could add a first choice central defender to replace skrtel I have no doubt this area of the field will be better.
In midfield Lucas will have a whole season and pre season of games and fitness under his belt and already looks sharp and is a great player, add to that the constantly improving Henderson as well as Allen who I think in pre season has really she on his class; last season was tough for a young man to come to such a big club and immediately have so much responsibility and expectation as well as the injury.
And up front even if Suarez leaves we have a more experienced sterling with ibe emerging. We have brought in aspas and Alberto who have both shown why they were bought and regardless of their fee or anything else they clearly do improve the squad. As well as that we have practically a new signing in borini and if suare were to leave then I'm sure another attacking players such as costa.
So I for one am really excited and looking forward to this season
Congratulations to our fantastic captain as well truly is a one in a million players, pure class

Players that impressed me today so far:

Joe Allen - making good runs, passing well and got a goal. Lots of improvement.
Iago Aspas - very skillful, great touches.
Sterling - good pace, vision and dribbling. improved a lot, looks more mature aswell.
Toure - Good defending, looks like he's good in the box. Could be the signing of the summer in the prem.

The only transfers 'needed' are a new full back and DM cover, preferably a youngster so he can learn from lucas and eventually replace him.

Impressed with Toure, Aspas, Sterling & Lucas so far.

A little worried about Allen. It's hard to criticise him personally since he's a willing runner and is giving his all, but he just doesn't look like he's in his natural position getting forward from midfield. Yes, he's scored, but he's struggled when he's pulled wide to exploit space, or is pressured by defenders. And he's missed two other decent chances. If we're not signing someone new to be our link-man between midfield and attack, I'd rather work with Henderson in that position.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You obviously listened to it on the radio - Joe Allen was excellent, in a fairly competitive game.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2013 17:23:38
No, I watched it.

Allen got missed two scorable chances, got crowded out two or three times in the first 15 minutes, and gave away a dangerous freekick after chasing back from his upfield position.

I appreciate that he did make the runs and he did score, but he's clearly not at his most comfortable playing that role. Henderson is quicker, stronger, a better finisher and just generally better in the top third. I'm not saying Allen is a bad player, because he isn't, I just think he needs to play deeper with Lucas, but Gerrard has that position locked out.

In an ideal world today would be about one man, Steven Gerrard. Unfortunately the press will be more interested in the Suarez side show.
I wonder if the crowd could have an effect on Suarez today? They could be quite frosty with him (though I think it would be a minority who actually boo-through respect for Gerrard more than anything else) or they could sing they're hearts out and hope that Suarez looks around at the respect Carra, Robbie and of course Stevie have got and hope that it has some influence on his decision.

Definition of karma - we flog the ungrateful little tyke to the goners for £50m, and they then lose their qualifiying match for the CL! What joy that would be. Apart from him coming back and scoring a hattrickagainst us obviously .

Goners finish 6th LFC top 4. Ivanovic knocks Suarez's teeth out with his elbow. The list could go on and if he goes to London I dare say it will

I don't post very often, but I would like to congratulate Stevie G today. Take a bow son and have a great day.

I have watched him many a year & still remember his first goal v Sheffield Wednesday & boy has he progressed over time.

An all time Liverpool great who will be remembered with fondness. let's hope that any reaction to our number 7 doesn't spoil his day.

Also bravo to the eds, I have been on here for 4 years or so & today you can see a real change. its so positive today. Eds you can also take a bow! Thanks for all you do guys & gals & keep up the good work.

Hi Eds, great to see so many people registering, hopefully there will be less abuse especially the Eds.

I wanted to share with you my (sub-conscious)powers I seem to have - many years ago, while I was in the RAF based near Chester, I ran the 100M and won. A few days later we signed Ian Rush. Last week I bought a coffee machine to make latte at home and Costa is suddenly mentioned as a possible recruit. There have been other instances as well although I did have an itch in a delicate part once but Billy Hollocks signed for another team.

I'm not saying I'm correct every time but I have just returned from Minnesota and noticed that at Goodwood 3.50 today there are 2 horses, Blaine and Racy, that fit my premonition thought pattern! Don't shoot the messenger but I will post on the betting page in the future if either comes in!

Suarez. I may be naive . But can anyone enlighten me as to what happened to make Suarez push for a move to Arsenal.
I can understand him wanting to go to Real. But arsenal? Since when did LFC upset him so much that he's desperate to get out? I know he wants Champions League but he should be focussed on trying to achieve that with the team who stood by him thru the Evra episode and though him eating a Chelsea player.
I think it's fair to say that Liverpool made him the complete player he now is and stood behind him throughout, so where has all the determination to leave to a club like Arsenal come from?
Personally I think he should go as he's a liability, I just don't think we have anyone to replace him yet.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its all about the money hence no transfer request yet . if he goes he gets a loyalty [ lol ] pay off, signing on fee new improved contract and all the bells and whistles, I just hope when he goes he goes abroad and we move onwards and upwards. owen torres the same mould and we replaced them so the future is bright I think

Eds. what do we know of the progress of Texeira, Yessil and Assaidi?
I believe Assaidi may be considered surplus but the other two have been injured.
Also, is Kelly considered FULLY fit?
ANFIELDPETE {Ed001's Note - the first two the club were very happy with, other than the disappointment of the injuries. I am hopeful that they might get a few early chances of the bench. Assaidi is available for sale. Kelly is fit, they say.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Kelly won't be 'fully' fit until about 4-6 months of games and training. Much like Lucas last year, he'll be fit enough to play but not 100%. Injuries such as theirs take time to recover from.

A few posters mentioning Stevie G's best goal. He has certainly scored some memorable belters and I can't disagree with anyone who mentions the West Ham cup final goal or the CL goal against Olympiakos. But, for me, without any comparison for the scale of emotion is his goal in Istanbul. it still gets me every time I see it.

Frenchy.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Can't agree more. That got the boys going in Turkey. True captain's effort by example. I've shown that goal to my 3 young sons identifying true leadership. Olympiakos, West Ham, Middlesborough deserves it's kudos, but Istanbul had more weight to it.

I have seen a few posts recently suggesting we need to sign a defensive midfielder as cover/competition for Lucas. What are people's thoughts as to who we should go after and do the Eds know of anybody we are actually interested in? My vote would be Diame at West Ham. He was the standout player in the game at Anfield last season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

morning all
cant go today to pay my homage to a true LFC legend. I rate Stevie G up there with any Liverpool player including the king and god. just a thought though if we have the king, god what do we call stevie g in the future when reminiscing - what title is suitable maybe the messiah as we all looked to him when in trouble and more often than not he delivered, pulled us out of the brown smelly stuff, single handed at times tooA messiah is a saviour or liberator of a group of people). just a thought and I digress.
my main point was to thank Stevie G for all the good times, the sheer pleasure watching one of the greatest players I have ever seen and to wish him well for today.
my fav goal - I can't pick one - olympiakos, the 1st in istanbul that got us going, the fa cup final against west ham all sublime for obvious reasons but I think the 25 yarder that flew past Bartez into the top corner.

good luck stevie YNWA

Who on this site hasn't corrected someone on a transfer rumour down in the pub using the eds info, usually by laughing with eyes closed, nodding head from side to side saying something in the line of "Well I heard he's off to Milan". Who amongst us hasn't used the insight of another poster to fit in with others "See the problem with suarez is when the ball sticks more than likely a goal opportunity will follow. But more than often it doesn't stick and the team is caught in transition between defence and attack, forced to try quickly then switch back to defence and get punished for this". This sometimes is followed by a silence, a look around and an exit from the conversation when it becomes apparent they don't really care about football. Who didn't take Ed02 advice and look up Alice B Toklas and find the sentence Toklas was a chain smoker with a slight mustache, Gypsy earrings, and manicured nails.

So in summary thank you to the eds again for making me ahead of tv on transfers which leads to me looking ITK.

You seem in a very good mood this morning Ed so hope and presume the rabble have been not been at you.
As the BBC have really very little involvement in Sports broadcasting nowadays, other than radio, is their choice of reporting "favouring" Liverpool in some way? By that I mean they realise that any lead article about Liverpool will elicit far more replies than other clubs. As your site says, there is more activity on Liverpool's pages than others. The report, as you quote, has no attributable sources and is over a week old, but has had over 1,000 replies on their website.
Not reelly a conspiracy theory but nevertheless good publication for the BBC on perhaps a slow day? {Ed002's Note - Not deliberately "favouring" Kev but the high profile clubs will always pull more headlines. And Liverpool has a lot of fans who are vocal with their opinions - hence the responses. People care about the "big name" transfers so Suarez, Falcao, Rooney, Kokorin, Cavani, Tevez, Khedira, Higuain, Negredo etc. will always be top of the list. I am sure it will be easier next week when Manchester United fans are being "vocal" about the headlines Kev.}

Hopefully will be a good day for all today at anfield. Well deserved. My question really is to you eds and people out there that know your football, is kolo toure a better organiser at the back than jamie carragher was? {Ed002's Note - I'll leave that for the experts Dar.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Probably not much in it from what i've seen over the years and what the squad have said about him since he joined. Additionally, he's more technically competent, though Carra would DIE for the club and that made a massive difference - I think that was a big part of our improvement in the second half of last season, not just Coutinho and Sturridge. No idea why City let Toure go tbh but their loss is definitely our gain! Let the optimism reign, especially today!

Carragher was a better organiser I feel, but Kolo has more to his game at 32 than Carra did.

Hi Eds, I have a request for whenever it would be possible please. I'm a lifelong fan based in Suffolk and, due to family and work commitments, can never get to live games (although I still cherish the memories of past games I did get to see. John Barnes, still one of my all time favourite players). Instead, I read and absorb anything I can find about our great club (which is why I love your site so much, it's a life saver!).

Would it be possible to create a page with the sole purpose of sharing post views of the games please. I'd love to hear from people who get to go to the games about how we played, tactics, players, what was good, not so good etc. It should also include views from those who watched on TV too as these views are just as valid.

I'm not sure how much demand there would be for this page but I'd love it. I would only hope it doesn't become a Borini bashing page though. I feel for the guy. He's obviously a very good young player who is trying hard to score and prove his worth and just needs a few goals to get his confidence up. I love that he tries so hard and, for me, it shows he cares. (Sorry, bit of a tangent there).

Thanks in advance for any consideration of the request and, new page or no new page, I just wanted to thank you again for this site. You all do a splendid job.

Have a great weekend all, {Ed002's Note - I will add it in to the suggestions box Bryan. Once we settle in a few weeks perhaps the "Questions" page could be used for reviews of games. I'll pass it on to the powers that be.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree. In a very similar position, not Suffolk, and can only get to games perhaps once a year. Would be nice to read what real fans think of the performances. I do echo that it should not become a moaning, player-bashing site. Perhps this would mean too much more work for the Eds. {Ed002's Note - It would be good to see someone who attends the games to give us a half time update from their phone.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I go to pretty much all of the home games (Mrs started to put her foot down with regards to away games unfortunately), I'd be happy to post the halftime update on here.

The only problem ( others may have experienced this. ) I sit on the Kop and or some reason, the phone reception tends to go on as the game progresses. I'm with O2.

I was 9 when Gerrard made his debut, remember he just had an aura about him, a desire to win, after that when he started to play more and get a few starts I saw the fight passion(getting him into trouble plenty of times) he quickly became my favourite player in the world, you know a player is special when every kid playing football in the street wants to be Gerrard! My dad asked me who my favourite player was and when I said Gerrard he was surprised because he was a "new kid on the block" and he had seen some greats players like Kenny Rush Barnes etc play and wow the kop, to this day I've never changed my mind he's special, he's the one and only, the best player to play for Liverpool and this is his day! We love you Steven Gerrard YNWA.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Still vividly remember his first senior goal against Sheffield Wednesday, the way he dropped his shoulder and jinked into the box, the ball just rolled forward in a straight line, but Gerrard's movement completely outfoxing the defence, then calmly stroking it into the bottom corner. Seriously thought at the time, he could be a future captain, still what do I know. Hope he has a great day today, and anyone that's going to the game, I'll be trying to watch on LFCTV with a truly terrible internet connection.

Good morning ed's and red's,
I must admit that I am enjoying the upserge in positivity on this site this morning.
Its a really good site and I must admit that I do enjoy some of the banter ;-) but there is a lot of negativity on here that I just don't get!? So if you are feeling slightly pessimistic in regards to owners, BR or the window, then just think back to the summer of 2010 when Poulsen and Konchesky where signed amongst others! and Ngog was leading the line for the start of the season!
This just might help you realise that things are really not that bad and that there is a lot of things to be positive about in regards to the future of our club.
However if this still doesn't work then 'GOD' and carra will be on the pitch with the liver on their chest once more, so that should help.

Big hello to all the Ed's.
It's been a long time since I posted but in order to keep the trolls at bay and make this forum once again a true banter zone I have registered and will make a concerted effort to post as often as possible. I can't think of a day where I have not spent at least an hour trawling through the posts wondering where all the bile and hatred was spewing from. Anyway on this beautiful day I want to salute the greatest player of my generation - Stevie G! Stevie you are without a doubt a true red, inspiration, and living legend - take a bow son!

Best Stevie goal for me is possibly joint between the Olympiakos goal and the FA Cup Final equalizer against WHU. Anyone beg to differ?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think the issue we all have Red science is Stevie has scored so many wonderful goals its hard to choose, Yes they were truly class goals but its always nice to see one in the top corner against the Mancs. if memory serves right 2001 35 yarder top corner. I think we all knew then how good he was becoming

Agree0 Disagree0

Mine personally was his half volley vs Middlesborough. My god that boy can strike a ball!

The one against the manc's when it left Barthez clutching at thin air is a personal favorite

Steven Gerrard, just wanted to say a thank you to the best player I've ever seen play for Liverpool. I was there when you scored your greatest goal against Olympiacos and I was there in Istanbul when you lifted old big ears. The ultimate player who would have walked into any team of any generation. Hi Eds, in your opinion, if we was to sign Costa how would you see the midfield and forwards lining up? Also, personally I would like to see Gerrard start to play a little deeper so that he can still have a big influence on games and showcase his passing etc. I know he is still brilliant in a more attacking role but it might be a more prudent way to prolong his career whilst still playing a massive part. I'd be interested in anyone's thoughts.

Ps My first post since registering and want to reiterate the thanks from us fans. Great job and wonderful site {Ed002's Note - Normally I would not answer this Bryan as I have little or no interest in formations. But as it is Happy Post Day, and your first post as a badge carrying member, I will make an exception. Brendan Rodgers is aiming for a squad that gives him multiple options in "formation". Folks are very often misled about formations as they constantly need to adapt during a match. I recall a discussion once where it was decided that the only time formations could be considered fixed was at kick off. I know this guy at Clairefontaine who for maybe 20 years has been studying if and how different formations are applied. He advocates and teaches that certain sides (he cites Barcelona, Chelsea, Ajax and Kashima Antlers) that have achieved varying levels of success have actually now reverted to something between no formation at all and the Metodo approach and that strict formations should be a thing of the past. He wants to see intelligent players that can adapt as the game changes and this is what is being taught to the French kids who are seen as the future of the game in France. The reality is that whilst defending, even these sides will adopt a 3, 4 or 5 at the back with one or two in front. However, going forward these clubs look to 6 or 7 players being entirely flexible in the positions and space they fill - the premise being if they are intelligent players they will naturally work as a unit and make themselves available to constantly open up new options. This is what I see Rodgers aiming at, which means he needs to get players in that can be flexible and can adapt - as such, it will be a move away from a player simply being placed "wide left" or whatever. Hopefully this makes some sense.}

Thanks for the insight Ed02, makes sense with the players Brendan has brought in so far. Bryan I agree about Stevie playing deeper this season and the reason for that, although like he has shown in pre season he will still at times bomb forward, (really don't think he'll be able to help himself), but definitely won't be starting as far forward as he has been in previous years.

Thanks EDS for the terrific job your doing
I just wanted to say people have been misjudging Diego Costa. In terms of performance he's right up there. He scored 10 goals and 10 assists in the league last season despite playing on the wing. And when played as striker in the cups he scored 10 goals in 10 games. He is versatile and can play anywhere in the front 3, is strong, good dribbler, good 2 feet on him.
I think getting him would be better then getting a natural winger such as sanchez or turan.
I for one would be extremely happy if we got him as he could be the one to get is into top 4
What are your thought about him guys, the football side of things.
cheers {Ed002's Note - There is no doubt that he is a committed player who would have had far more opportunities with his club and national side if he could channel his energy in to his game.}

Some fans seem to have the impression that Liverpool want to keep Suarez, but in my honest opinion I feel we want him gone.At the same time we want what's best for the club.We should get the best price we can for him, however at the same time we shouldn't sell him to any team in the Premier league, at any price.
Suarez has been one of the best players I have seen at our club, but also the most controversial.His attitude is that of a winner, though I don't agree about winning at any cost.
He owes the club big time, for the love and support we have shown him, and the platform we have given him.We are still one of the worlds biggest supported clubs, and Luis Suarez name is known all around the world thanks to our brand. I am not saying nobody knew him before he played for us, just that now everybody knows who he his and what talent he has.
We should appreciate the effort he has shown while wearing our shirt and understand his desire to play in the champions league, and give him our continued support every time he puts the liverbird upon his chest. {Ed002's Note - A good post, please make sure you register.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why on earth would the manager or the heirarchy want Suarez gone - very difficult to replace a 31 goal a season player.
TBH if we do sell him to another PL club, we will most definitely be admitting we are now a small selling club, who pampers to contracted players, and give in to them - sadly in the days of football no longer being a sport and being just a business, winning at all costs is the way forward - every footballer, and I mean every footballer is a cheat in one way or another, and will say or do anything to get an advantage.
All you have to do is look what Arsenal did last year, they pandered to RVP's desire to go to Man Utd, and handed them the title, because without him, they almost certainly would have been pushed much harder.
Good ambitious sides do not sell their best players to bitter rivals - United don't, Chelsea don't.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Ed, I am registered and I thought I was logged in.It's about time this happened on the site, Ed.Appreciate what all the Eds do for these pages.Keep up the good work. {Ed002's Note - Thanks.}

Agree0 Disagree0

John B,
All clubs sell players. If a player is dead set on leaving there is not much a club can do. They won't keep an unhappy player for fear of it causing unrest in the dressing room i.e. team spirit.
The only problem is if one of your rivals is the only club that is bidding for that player, what do you do?

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal got a great amount for RVP considering the player was coming into the final yr of his contract.
I did say we shouldn't sell to a Premier league club, at any price.
But I am still of the belief that Liverpool F C would like to part ways with the player.
The controversy that the player brings and the Suspensions he gets, in no way benefits the club.
However good he his, he can't make a difference, or help us get top 4, while sitting in the stands.

Thanks Somerset Red {Ed002's Note - He has the potential to do something stupid, which would be of concern to most clubs. That is the worry. Don't forget to register.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Most people have the potential to do something silly. Graham Hunters assessment seemed pretty for to me. Overall could prove to be an astute signing for LFC as there is far more upside in terms of the goals/assists/influence on games he is now showing. Dare I say, he's maturing as a player.

Kidder (have registered but having password problems) {Ed002's Note - Let's hope you can overcome them. I don't know what Hunter has said but you are right that most players have the potential to do something stupid. It is the likelihood of them doing it which is the problem.}

I think Suarez would have already challenged the contract legally if his advisors thought they stood a chance of forcing a move. The last bid for him was quite a while ago now and the Gunners don't appear to want to up it. I think they truly believed that the last bid would be enough because Suarez people told them it would but clearly it wasn't. They will be having nose bleats from the offer they put in and I don't think they want to to part with the 50mil plus it will take because as we all know that's 80 percent of their budget.

I've always stuck up for Suarez. I may be in denial, I don't think I'll believe he wants to leave until he says it, in English, on video, but that's just me. I'd always thought he mustn't mind staying, but when he set Aspas up and didn't even smile like the old Suarez, I couldn't care less what he did. People had been saying he'd give 100% whether he wanted to stay or go, but after that, I'm fine with him leaving. We watched the highlights from that game in work and the lads were all over him again. Oh my god! Look at the skill! Look at the class! But I saw him moping and that was it. If he stays, great. If he leaves, £55,000,000 is also great.

Best of luck with this awkward situation, Mr Rodgers!

Hi, I don't want to start a negative trend on your post but I just wanted to know why you chose such an extreme username? Of course, everyone is entitled to their view on owners, managers and players but surely, just because you would like different owners, doesn't warrant 'FSG Out' banners etc. They may not be yours or everyone's ideal owners but they are by no means awful and to some of us we think they are doing a fantastic job and are the perfect owners. Just sharing some thoughts so no offence intended. Cheers {Ed002's Note - We have to accept that some folks have differing views Bryan and we should listen if they have a sensible case to put. Hi folks, I'm just going to try and compare our two main rivals' teams to ours. I am including in this what I think each team will end up with for example: I think Bale will leave for Madrid so I'm not including him in their team. Also I think we will have Aly Cissokho so he will be in ours. Okay here we go.

GK Mignolet/Szcezney/Lloris

I think that it's pretty obvious that the best keeper here is Lloris. He is the first choice French keeper at just 25/6 years old and has many more years at WHL if they match his winning mentality. Mignolet is above Szcezney IMO but only just. Even though Szcezney is Poland's first choice he has never really been an outstanding keeper in the PL and never been rated as one of the best in the league.

Lloris > Mignolet > Szcezney

Spurs 3; Liverpool 1; Arsenal 0

RB: Johnson/Walker/Sagna

In my opinion we have the better full back here. Whilst Walker and Sagna are both very good full backs I still think for the attacking football that all three teams possess and have to try and play to become a dominant force you'd take Glen Johnson's attacking ability over the others any day of the week. Whilst Sagna is a very good defensive full back he offers very little going forward and nowadays, even with his experience, he seems to still have those little mistakes in him that costs his teams goals. Walker is still behind Johnson in the England pecking order but I do think he'll overtake him soon. In time, Walker will be much better but for now, Johnson all day.

Johnson > Walker > Sagna

Liverpool 4; Spurs 4; Arsenal 0

CB: Papadopoulous & Agger/ Kaboul & Vertonghen/ Vermearlen & Koscielny

On paper, I think Arsenal have the greatest defence but football has never played to those rules. Throughout the course of last season Vertonghen was by far the best defender in the league, bar none. He absolutely carried that Spurs defence and also was very capable with handing out goals for his team too. Kaboul on the other hand hardly played a game, infact I think it was 1 after being sidelined by injury. He was a great player the previous season and if he is somehow up for sale I would snap him up quicker than you can shout Papadopoulous! Arsenal's 2 centre backs, as I said, are very good on paper but last season Vermealen was dropped in favour of Mertesacker, and without being disrespectful, if you're known as a top defender and you're getting replaced by Mertesacker I really can't see you being that impressive. Koscielny is actually a very very good defender but even when sided with Vermealen I can't see them bettering Liverpool's or Spur's defence. Papadopoulous adds that steal to the Liverpool defence that has been lacking ever since Kenny Dalglish dropped Jamie in favour of Skrtel, yes you could say Skrtel is a powerhouse but he does get manhandled a lot, and that was proved against Matt Smith of Oldham and Benteke of Villa. He can't handle the big guys very well at all.

Kaboul & Vertonghen > Papadopoulous & Agger > Koscielny & Vermealen

Spurs 7; Liverpool 5; Arsenal 0

LB: Assou-Ekotto/ Jose Enrique/ Monreal

This is pretty much simple for anyone to guess which is the better left back. Monreal sweeps this category all day long. Even spurs fans hate the fact that they still hold onto BAE and Liverpool fans are still trying to discover whether Enrique is terrible or incredible.

Monreal > Enrique > Assou-Ekotto

Spurs 7; Liverpool 6; Arsenal 3

CM: Paulinho, Sandro, Dembele/ Wilshere, Cazorla, Arteta/ Gerrard, Lucas,

Another really hard category just like the CB one. I am in absolute fear of that Spurs midfield, it has absolutely everything you want, they can keep the ball for days and with dembele and paulinho's attacking ability as well as defensive ability sitting infront of a rock like Sandro they really don't lack in any department. Arsenal are also in the same boat just without the toughness which I think is the only thing that let's them down. If they kept hold of Song I feel like they have a world class midfield but I just don't think Arteta suits that DM role for the PL even though I do really like him he's just not as good as Song and not suited to that role considering the toughness of the PL. Gerrard and Lucas match eachother very well but I think out of all the defensive midfielders Lucas is just not up to par. If he is replaced with a better defensive midfielder like Gustavo [Yes it's unlikely but just for the sake of argument] then Liverpool are just as good if not better than the other two.

Paulinho, Sandro, Dembele > Wilshere, Cazorla, Arteta > Gerrard, Lucas,

Spurs 10; Liverpool 6; Arsenal 4

Wingers: Lamela & Chadli/ Coutinho & Sterling/ Walcott & Podolski

This is another hard category but mostly because I'm taking into account how the new Spurs players will bed into the PL, they aren't your typical PL winger but that hasn't stopped Hazard and Mata from excelling! I think both are incredible wingers and will prove to be great replacements; between them; for Bale. I think whilst Sterling has improved a lot from last year he still has a lot to go to become a top winger but I also think that Coutinho is by far the best player out of the whole lot, even at the ripe age of 21! Whilst Podolski is mainly a striker he has been used on the left of a front 3 all last season and I believe he has done pretty well there by chipping up with important goals but he is not someone who's going to take your team to the next level and neither is Walcott.

Lamela & Chadli > Coutinho & Sterling > Podolski & Walcott

Spurs 13; Liverpool 7; Arsenal 4

ST: Soldado & Defoe/ Sturridge & Costa/ Giroud & Suarez

Now before I get into it, yes I know I've put Suarez going to Arsenal but I really believe Arsenal NEED a good striker and you don't really get a chance to get someone as good as Suarez WANTING to go to your team every day so they must snap it up!

In my opinion Suarez is by far the best player here, he's got everything in his locker and everyone on here knows that so i'm not going to into further detail, saying that, Ii also think Giroud is the worst. His touch is poor and his finishing is just dreadful, he has great link up play and he has an eye for a pass but he's just not up to scratch for top 4 IMO. Costa and Sturridge complement eachother extremely well. Costa will be the hustle and bustle kinda guy whilst Sturridge will leach onto everything Costa has to knock on or thread through. Perfect match and IMO will create and score a lot of goals between them. Soldado is the best pure finisher in this group but Defoe is also a very similar player. I don't think they'd complement each other very well but I also don't think they're going to actually play together. Saying that, Ii still think a strikeforce of Costa/Sturridge is better than a lone Soldado.

Costa & Sturridge > Suarez & Giroud > Soldado

Spurs 13; Liverpool 10; Arsenal 5

With this said, it's obviously how the team plays at the end of the day but I do believe that this is how the fight will go down. Spurs will finish 4th, Liverpool 5th and Arsenal 6th.

Well it certainly would be hard playing against the arsenal and spurs teams you've put forward as they are both fielding 12 whilst we remain with the traditional 11. Can see why Gerrard and Lucas would have their hands full. Is this a new handicapped version of the epl to negate the effect of the Kop?

Agree0 Disagree0

Think you have to factor in the effect that losing Bale, will have on Spurs, they rely on him too much, or did .

Hands up all those people who have taken a job with a career ladder in mind, I.e a route to better pay and prospects. As much as Suarez has peeved me with his desire to move on he is only doing what people in the real world do and that is in his own mind rightly or wrongly, decided he wants a new employer, more money and better prospects. The great and the good have pulled on the red shirt and worn it with pride but we were kings then and sadly like most clubs we are now more of a business than an institution. We still have a monumental following and we have our memories, oh God do we have memories.I cannot crucify Suarez for believing the grass might be greener somewhere else, but like most honest reds just wished he could have had a bit more class and bit more patience before giving up on us and the club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Champions League is the big lure for any player.

Suarez is only doing what any other player will do. The flip side to this is money, big money, eg. Falcao to Monaco and no CL {Ed002's Note - Don't forget to register.}

Alright Lads, regular visitor but a first time poster here.!

It's our Captain Fantastic's day. I really hope he gets all the respect and affection he deserves. For me he is what LFC represents. Any team in the world would be lucky to have Gerrard. Its a pefect match, a truly great player who loves and bleeds LFC and the greatest fans in the world who love and adore him equally.
P.S. don't Think anyone would be booing Suarez as the fans are going to busy singing "YNWA" and songs about the one and only Steven Gerrard, Its his day afterall!
A 30yrd screamer from Gerrard will be so apt!
Cheers

In the games that Suarez has appeared so far in pre-season, he just doesn't look interested. Frankly, with that attitude I'm really not fussed if he goes, & I don't see why anyone else should be. Open to thoughts!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree 100%. either sh*ep or get of the toilet Suarez, hand in a request & then let's sell him for not less than 50 million & move on, it's getting to be a joke, Although a great player really just an unappretiative mercernary with only his interest's at heart, no respect for how the club have stood behind him even when he made a complete arse of himself & the team. This type of player should be looking up to the like's of Stevie G & Carragher, love & respect the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's pre season - he's got nothing to prove. And he also hasn't really had a break after Confederation Cup. And yes, any LFC that wants him to go, admits to not wanting to bring any chance of success back - top teams do not sell their best players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Stop making excuses for him. Suarez is clearly not happy, he has the same expression as Rooney did when he first arrived in the Far East on tour:-

Did anyone else find Wenger's recent comments disrespectful to Liverpool. As if Liverpool have accepted Suarez's behavaviour acceptable?!

Wenger said that if Suarez does become an Arsenal player, such behaviour will not be tolerated.

He said: "We have values that we want our players to respect. No matter where they come from, we will be very touchy on that of course"

Gidgo

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I am a Liverpool fan, but Liverpool have accepted his behaviour. Look at the way he was supported after he racially abused evra. Liverpool should of took a stronger stance with the player. And look the way he repays us. I think we look a bit silly now!

wenger is doing his best not to get the player in case Liverpool call his bluff and except their offer, which had no respect for Liverpool either. {Ed002's Note - Their interest is serious Tommy.}

I did take offense as well. And the fact that he was quite happy to talk about somebody else's player as well.
But having said that, I do believe that if you manage a football club then you have to be a hypocrite in some respects.
Its part of the job criteria due to the tribal nature of the sport.
If we sell to Arsenal now then it has to be for close to £60 million pounds.
Also if we do sell Luis then Ian Ayre will be made to look like a right tit!
I think everyone at Liverpool is praying for a Madrid bid soon.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Wenger is right to say that, as it sends out the right message, players earning huge wages should behave themselves, as for the evra mess, I think Suarez was set up, as for the biting, I would have subbed him right away .

Really looking forward to new season, my only concern is in the centre of the park. Last season we really struggled against players with real pace through the middle, we don`t seem to have addressed this. Remember the Arsenal game at home, and others.

It's time for Suarez to be sold 35-40m . Regardless he needs to sold.

Get rid, can't have players disrespecting the club nor us the fans!

No need to support a player that thinks he can pickup his pay cheques whilst publicly courting other clubs to engineer a move away.

If he feels so abhorrent about putting on our crest then he is a disgrace.

We all know the team needs strengthening, but did he help us get into the CL whilst he playing for us!? No

In fact, he spent abject amount of time not playing due to his own stupid misdemeanours.

I don't have any time for selfish, disinterested, disingenuous players, . He is typical of one simply putting his own interests before the club.

Like I've always said, players come and go, they are simply temporary employees at the club. It he doesn't like it here then he should be barred from the club and sold at the clubs behest.

I say we won't make CL next year and will remain midtable. I don't see any progress being made at all, especially with the current owners and manager.

However, we need to get rid of all the players that want out and build a team in the future that becomes capable of challenging, with a winning mentality.

M

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Very true, M, but let's PRETEND we don't want him to leave and then reluctantly accept 50m from one of the clubs with more money than business sense.

Agree0 Disagree0

A bit of a negative post. Agree with you about saurez. However, the football we are playing, the amount of goals scored last year to previous season and the fact we finished the season stronger than we started it, shows there is progress being made. Keep your chin up and be more positive.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do people spout nonsense. It does matter on fee and where he goes. We are not mugs and other clubs shouldn't get an easy ride because of one goofy players petulance.

Seems like a no brainer to me. Any whoo. I am off to Anfield for the first time for the stoke match. can't wait! Any decent pubs full of reds to go to pre match?

I can't help but to think of the excellent way we finished the season and how optimistic I was for this season back then. I love the young impact type players we have, so exciting to watch as I think we have seen moments of in pre season.

Looking forward to tomorrow's match and for the beginning of the new campaign.

Just a quick one before bed. (Light weight I know!). But I am on the bad side of 30 and shattered.

I'm a little pig sick of the Suarez situation. I understand Ayres and Co want to keep him, BUT it seems this saga will run and run. Arsenal CAN wait till Sept because of his bans. This however does not help our situation. We need to make a collective decision NOW!

Sell or keep. 40-50 million needs to come in now so we can reinvest. NOT on deadline day! Either way I for one would like to have some assurances as to what LFC are going to do.

On another and an absolute greater note. Steven Gerrard absolutely should enjoy tomorrow's testimonial and feel that he deserves every single moment. The man is a true gent, legend of the club and will go down as arguably the best home grown footballer LFC have ever had. Wonderful player and I wish him all the best!

Thanks Eds for a great site.

In my opinion Suarez to Arsenal will be a complete disaster, even if we get £50m for him.

The club should stand strong, even if he does hand in a transfer request.

The board should tout Suarez around Europe(as his agent has) and sell for a price close to the amount paid for him under Kenny.

Yes, we may not be making a profit but more importantantly, not strengthening our biggest rival for 4th spot.

We need to stand firm.
