Well neymar done and 200 million for barcelona. Eds thinks couts won't be sold. Will be curious to see if Barcelona sign anyone now if not then surely it will be agreed for couts next summer.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

03 Aug 2017 23:14:50
Frankly, I don't think they can wait another year since the team seems to need a massive overhaul. I think they'll go back to their first choice (Veratti) and try to resolve the problem (s) there or go for someone else.

03 Aug 2017 23:31:17
Aparently verrati is sounded out as a replacement for iniesta as is couts but if I had to pick a replacement for neymar between the two it would be coutinho.

04 Aug 2017 00:37:18
It's not a replacement for neymar it's a replacement for iniesta and Veratti is their 1st choice of the two but they can't get him and Couthino is 2nd in line and desperate to join them. Personally I would be very proud if Liverpool had actually stuck to their guns and said our players are not for sale at any price until WE decide they are surplus to requirements. And still stick a large price tag on said person then if they are extremely confident about getting the asking price, not asking mad money for
Sakho- markovic etc. Pains me to say it but those types of players should be written off the books and try and recoup whatever they are offered within reason and try and not make mistakes like that happen again. There's a lot of thinning out to do in the squad and not much happening.

04 Aug 2017 01:40:27
"he is desperate to join them" - source for this please, or are you just basing it off this site?

04 Aug 2017 03:16:01
I hope Barcelona get neither Coutinho or Verratti. Time for that club to face the music that they dished out to other clubs in the past.
Nice to see other clubs come to the fore and at least make an attempt to stop the La liga duopoly of Real and Barca.

04 Aug 2017 04:38:49
giantkey RTP if you want a source for the basis of that comment, it's common knowledge to people who actually know who and what they are talking about and not actually being argumentative and wearing red tinted glasses. If you don't have the intelligence to understand what has been clearly stated and prefer to live in a bubble where no player would ever dream of leaving the club, well then your fooling nobody only yourself.

{Ed001's Note - then you are overstating it. He is not 'desperate' to join them, but it is a move he would like to make.}

04 Aug 2017 05:03:59
Didn't mean to come across as overstating but did he not approach certain Barcelona players last year in regards to any potential Barcelona may have in him joining them as a player in the not too distant future.

{Ed001's Note - players talk about stuff like that all the time, it is not an 'approach', it is players having a chat.}

04 Aug 2017 07:42:41
He is not 'desperate' to leave at all, a stupid choice of word. He wants to go to Barcelona and everyone and their dog knows that. ask wondersparky. let's see how strong we really are and see what happens. Either way Ill be singing Youll never walk alone just before the match starts and finishes.

04 Aug 2017 08:00:29
You know what I'm really not that concerned re PC going if we got near on 100 mill for him, I'm more concerned we haven't addressed our defence. We have players who can do a job for PC in my opinion we haven't got players who can lead at the back an organise a set piece though.
Just an opinion!

04 Aug 2017 10:37:38
Someone made a great assessment on here the other day. Coutinho has five years left on his contract, no buyout clause, its a world cup year so he needs to perform regardless of where he is, if he has a good season in the champions league and world cup his price rockets. We are in a great position to keep him this summer so unless he hands in a transfer request I don't think he'll go.

{Ed002's Note - You do understand that he wants to leave?}

04 Aug 2017 11:11:02
How comes ed01 and ed02's replies differ so much?
Ed01 makes it sound like he's open to the move but would also stay but ed02 makes it sound as though he wants the move.
Which one is it? Plus ed02 what difference is it if a player who's under contract is made to stay and play?

{Ed002's Note - Coutinho wants to move hence all of the efforts from him and his agent. I don't understand the second question.}

04 Aug 2017 11:37:53
I know he wants to go Ed but he is not in a great position to force a move. It's not like he will walk away for free next summer and he can't really sulk if we keep him because if he wants to get into the World Cup team, he needs to play and play well.

{Ed002's Note - I don't recall ever saying that he was in a position to force a move.}

04 Aug 2017 11:57:46
Never said you did Ed. I just posted a comment. I wasn't holding you to anything you'd said I was just backing up my earlier comment.

04 Aug 2017 12:06:17
Sorry for not making it more clear what I meant was. Kieta's club has made it quite clear he's not for sale but apparently he's open to the move. I'm not in the know just what I've read so correct me if I'm wrong. However after testing their stance albeit a little cringe worthy it seems we've given up as they're standing fast. In liverpools case are we open to sell him if the right offer comes in or is he not for sale?

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool keep putting a price on the player. If they don't want to sell then perhaps the club, not Klopp, should make that clear.}

04 Aug 2017 12:31:23
Ed02 thanks for the reply. That makes the situation a little more clearer.

03 Aug 2017 21:31:54
Watching Everton on itv4 and I can't wait for the derby we're going to murder them all the blue noses getting excited because they've signed players no one wants. If any of the sides in the top four went for them they wouldn't be at Everton it's comical haha.

Believable11 Unbelievable5

03 Aug 2017 22:40:03
pretty sure you wanted pickford and you and utd wanted Keane yet they chose us I also can't wait for the derby the tide has changed and we r on the rise.

03 Aug 2017 22:45:55
🤦🏻‍♂️.

03 Aug 2017 22:49:52
We were never interested in Keane (certainly not to the extent of of him "choosing" Everton) and he is pretty terrible tbh.

We did look at Pickford but it was decided that we would not make an offer. So once again, he did not "choose" Everton at all.

I do believe that for both of these players no other teams made offers so it was a case of them choosing Everton over their current teams only.

{Ed025's Note - your very wrong there mate..

03 Aug 2017 22:55:21
Keane chose Everton when he could've gone to United instead? lol okay mate, whatever you say.

As for Pickford, Liverpool never actually had an interest in him. And I certainly didn't want him.

{Ed025's Note - liverpool were very interested in pickford mate..

03 Aug 2017 23:02:45
Pretty sure we never what tide? Haha Keane didn't go because he knew he would play second fiddle and were the delusional ones? Did you see your performance tonight against an awful team? Tel ye mar to wipe away all ye tears larr.

{Ed025's Note - not great i agree, but a long way to go yet my friend..

03 Aug 2017 23:05:50
Betty just choose your words a bit better pal give them a good tanking thrashing etc.

03 Aug 2017 23:11:34
1. We never wanted Pickford, good keeper thou don't get me wrong

2. We never went in for Keane, intrested maybe but never inquired to Burnley for him to chose between you and us.

And 3. The tide has not changed, you've signed a heap load of players that would struggle to get into most of the top 6 sides

Deluded Everton fan.

{Ed025's Note - you speak with forked tongue mate..

03 Aug 2017 23:18:15
I did see our performance 5 new starters against a well drilled tough to break down team which you know first hand how tough it is to break teams down with 2 banks of 4 the way I look at the game we won both with 2 clean sheets with players still getting used to how each other play the important thing was going through not a great game to watch but we did our job I love how Liverpool fans say we don't matter yet love talking about us as for you guys nxt season you bought salah but haven't improved the defence which is your weak link yet you think your going to win the league it's laughable.

03 Aug 2017 23:18:23
Yeah Liverpools interest in Pickford probably disappeared when they heard 30m squids, we've already got 3 goalkeepers on the books who are good enough to play in the premier league, unfortunately none of them are champions league quality in my opinion, and I don't think Pickford is yet either.

even Mignolet looked good at Sunderland because when you face 20 shots every game and only let in one it does flatter the keeper, unfortunately it's much more difficult to do nothing all game and then pull off a world class save in the 85th minute.

{Ed025's Note - saying liverpool lost interest when sunderland wanted £30m for pickford is a terrible indictment on your club ruthless, just pay the bleedin fee and stop all this tapping up to save a few quid ffs....then some of you come out and say you want £120m for couts....get a grip guys..

03 Aug 2017 23:22:34
To be honest ed0025 I like tha look of Sandro think after a year or two he will be quality certainly proved it in Spain. I just think too some extent Koeman has panicked abit don't you? Lukaku going Barkley on his way out I think it's going to be a while before these players perform. To say that yous are are on the up and the tide is changing is very very premature. I honestly think you will struggle this season without lukaku and Barkley I really do but 90 percent of Everton fans think because yous have spent 100million plus are within a shot of top four looking at it from an unbiased perspective I think yous will be lucky to finish in the top 8 I really do if I was koeman id of swooped in on west hams deal for Hernandez myself I robbed him would of been a great buy for yous.

{Ed025's Note - i agree with some of that betty especially that it will take time for it all to come together mate, early days yet so im not panicking just yet..

03 Aug 2017 23:42:15
I don't recall Liverpool making a bid for either player Ed?

Is that incorrect?

If not then neither player has chosen Everton over Liverpool, they have chosen Everton over staying where they were or going to an entirely different club.

Did either player say that they did not want to join Liverpool?

{Ed025's Note - liverpool inquired then baulked at the price dawn...typical minge bag mentality, then you want the earth if anyone wants one of yours..double standards mate..

03 Aug 2017 23:52:10
I am pretty sure we were at least interested in Pickford. Not to certain about Keane although I think he is a good player. There is one player I think will grow to be a good player over the season though Davey Klaassen, That being said I don't see a turning of the tide Or even the tide coming in I think the beach is still very safe for Liverpool and the blues are some distance behind.

04 Aug 2017 00:16:18
So Liverpool thinking that the price of a player was too high is equivalent to the player choosing Everton over Liverpool? I don't think so.

Everton paid what the club wanted for the player. Liverpool didn't think they were worth that. Simple as that.

04 Aug 2017 01:32:08
Me think Everton will do better than the previous seasons. Watched a few games, and I kinda enjoyed some of them. They definitely have changed in terms of how they play.

But I honestly feel that maybe they need a bit of time to really perform with lots of additions and changes in their team. Not saying they need few more seasons, but maybe few runs of games.

Even though I am a Liverpool fan, I don't feel much of rivalry between Everton and Liverpool, compared to a bit of hatred towards United (just a bit because United fans in my country a lil bit annoying) .

All in all, I think overall it's a good sign for the league to be a much more interesting than the other European leagues. I started to hate La Liga and Ligue 1. More teams seem able to compete with the so called big boys in the Premier League in terms of spending and hopefully in terms of top 4 and title challenge. For me, there will be loads of interesting games for me to watch, and I definitely going to be happy with that.

04 Aug 2017 06:39:49
Our defence was better than yours last year Bluey, and ours with shocking! let's see if you additions make the difference.

04 Aug 2017 06:46:14
EFC have improved their squad and will pick up more points than last year. I 100% believe they won't finish above LFC but watch out, they will grow in strength each year.

04 Aug 2017 09:22:24
Nobody has baulked at any prices, we just chose to avoid players that weren't as good as others and let you sign them instead, the delusion is real.

04 Aug 2017 10:40:34
£30m for a keeper who did nothing to stop his club getting relegated last season. You've been done lads.

04 Aug 2017 10:28:45
I think your right about double standards ed. But not all see it that way. I think a club is entitled to ask what it wants for a player and the buyer is entitled to bid what it wants. There are unreasonable amounts asked by sellers and bid for by buyers, but I struggle to see why people get so upset about this.
It seems there are also double standards applied to LFC in respect that we should not setting high fees for our players whilst telling LFC to put up or shut up when it comes to high fees set by others.
I acknowledge that we generally bid for players who are still wanted by their clubs and generally others are buying our unwanted players. But they are not buying them because they are unwanted, they are bidding because they want them.
Weather it's LFC or another team, if you don't want to pay the asking price then don't pay it.
I'm not saying that should a simplistic attitude will be effective business wise, just that the response to how much we or others bid or ask for players is a bit OTT.
Many would have accepted Palace earlier bid of around 20 million last year and got criticised for not doing so, yet they got a better price in the end because the other team wanted him, so clearly he wasn't priced out of a move as many suggested. That may prove to be the case for Sakho, Moreno etc. And it may mean that we get stuck with them, but either way it's the perogative of the owning club to set the price. It's not as if we are asking ridiculous prices for players, we are after all in a massively inflated market and if teams want quality players then they will pay for them.

{Ed025's Note - well balanced post that shanks..

04 Aug 2017 12:37:26
Ed 25 "minge bag mentality"😂😂😂never heard that before.

{Ed025's Note - you need to get out more mate..

04 Aug 2017 14:48:07
We never wanted Pickford and Keane is not good enough. In fact, none of your CB's are good. Ashley Williams? Really? Good luck with that, Blue.

04 Aug 2017 14:51:41
Klopp has said all along he doesn't want a keeper and if we'd wanted Keane he'd be in red but we didn't because he's worse than what we've already got! You lot are in trouble this season mark my words with the signings you've made and the sale of Lukaku you've gone backwards in my opinion.

03 Aug 2017 20:56:36
Hi Ed has Flanno still got a chance to stay with us. I'm surprised Brendan Rogers has not looked to bring him to celtic, perfect level for him in my opinion.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - im thinking accrington mate..

03 Aug 2017 21:17:16
Who are they? Ah if he stays fit he is a very good full back.

03 Aug 2017 21:13:16
Oooh, Accrington? That's not fair Ed. I don't think he has got back to the standard before the injury, but not down to Accrington level. He would be good in the Championship, got a heavy challenge and work rate in him.

03 Aug 2017 22:12:51
If not Accrington Ed025, how about a team at the same level.
Ev*rton perhaps?

:P.

{Ed025's Note - after tonight you could be right..

04 Aug 2017 01:06:46
Maybe join Jack Dunn and work your way back up the leagues.

Ho long is his contract?

04 Aug 2017 10:41:58
He was poor the other night so wherever he ends up, I can't see his long term future being at Liverpool. Similar to Spearing, I think he'll need to drop down a league or two to find his level.

03 Aug 2017 20:12:38
Good evening ed025

In YOUR opinion mate will Coutinho go to Barcelona this window? 🤔.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed025's Note - i dont think he will mate..

03 Aug 2017 20:58:22
Cheers for reply mate appreciate it. It seems inevitable he will leave at some point, I just hope we replace him properly.

03 Aug 2017 21:14:27
Klopp will only allow this on his terms, which means he will spend the season searching for the replacement before allowing him to move. Time is on our side, he's got a 5 year contract.

03 Aug 2017 21:27:21
we should get at least one more season from Couts, that gives us time to bring in that midfielder from Red Bull, notgonna say his name .

04 Aug 2017 14:46:30
Cou will leave but only on our terms and when we say so. If he wanted to leave then he should not have signed the extension he signed last season.

03 aug 2017 17:22:02
eds sorry to hassle you nut am waiting very impatiently for the new sharkopod many thanks.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am thinking about how to do the next one - I might try and bunch clubs together as we are moving on in the Window - it looks likely that I am around on a couple of days next week - look out for the Third Bardo and the Caretakers of Deception - perhaps an interlude from the Painted Ship with their smash hit single to explain how the Keita deal is going.}

03 Aug 2017 20:09:24
Hi ED02 would that be little white lies lol lol lol.

03 Aug 2017 21:01:59
Time to Say Goodbye - Andrea Bocelli?
It Wasnt't Me - Shaggy?
Wasted Time - Eagles?
Come On Over To My Place - The Drifters?

03 Aug 2017 23:50:13
Frustration I'm going for!

03 Aug 2017 18:52:19
Hello eds first time poster.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - welcome jayman...sorry mate but all mention of you know who is off limits and wont be posted mate..

03 Aug 2017 19:04:23
Here's one from left field COSTA on loan till January then off to athletics cashier in Asda overheard klopp talking on phone about a meeting and Costa
Maybe he was going for acoffee.

{Ed025's Note - or he might have said VVD will costa fortune..

03 Aug 2017 19:54:14
LOL, Ed025.

03 Aug 2017 20:53:44
Er, there's a Waitrose and a M&S local in Formby, can't see Mr Kloppo shopping in Asdas mate.

03 Aug 2017 23:42:34
May I ask the reason the person is off limits? is it ssomeone the club is interested in? just a fear thing like Loed what's his face in Harry Potter? Or none of the above :)

{Ed025's Note - it was getting boring and repetitive clfc, same questions over and over again clogging up the site, i did tell you all the other day that any mention of NK and the post will be deleted..and it will mate..

04 Aug 2017 00:01:57
Oh fair enough sorry Ed025 I must have missed that. I am not suprised you banned any mention of him it was every two seconds and answering the same question about the buyout clause again and again and again. Ed002 was losing the will to live I think. but that being said has anything changed is he signing? come on man help out a fellow scouser I need my fix! Just one more hit and I swear I will never ask again :)

{Ed025's Note - thats exactly what it was like clfc..

04 Aug 2017 14:47:38
Ed25, the Priceless One!

03 Aug 2017 17:36:52
FFP and the Neymar deal is confusing! Only posting here because the feeling is that if Neymar goes, Coutinho might have his head turned. Basically, Qatar, an oil rich nation, is now buying players at jaw dropping prices! I wonder if we can get America to buy us!

Believable3 Unbelievable3

03 Aug 2017 18:21:54
Clubs are an elitist little game, as is Monopoly for all us plebs.

03 Aug 2017 22:11:10
It's not jaw dropping, at all. It's actually obscene and outrageous. I don't see how people can accept and tolerate this "exceptional player" nonsense to sidestep FFP rules. It's way beyond ridiculous. 450 Million (transfer fees and wages inclusive) for 5 years. That's 90 Million per year, or 1.73 Million every week for Mr. Neymar to kick a ball around on a rectangular grass field. Sheer madness.

{Ed002's Note - How has anyone side stepped any rules at this time?}

03 Aug 2017 23:03:40
Ed002, my contention is that the exceptions themselves should not be allowed. I meant these "special player exemptions" go against the spirit of what the FFP should be trying to achieve.

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing about exceptions that has been formalised but it is recognised that you cannot simply say to a player, this is it, you can never be sold. If you rwally care about "obscene and outrageous" you would care about how the worst team in European football goes about attempting to treat and their transfers. Liverpool.}

04 Aug 2017 02:51:00
Worst team in europe wow.

04 Aug 2017 11:14:40
Ed002, I actually only really care about how that $450 million could be used to feed starving children, the homeless and the destitute. This is only a game that big boys play. Since we are questioning values.

{Ed002's Note - OK, you could start by writing to Liverpool asking them to donate the fee they get for Coutinho to charity.}

04 Aug 2017 12:37:10
Good idea Ed002. Maybe some of the other clubs will also follow suit and do the same. And within a few decades poverty and famine will be eradicated. Your foresight is boundless. Kudos.

03 Aug 2017 17:10:53
So one slightly lighter note today I found out that after 15 years of being on the season ticket waiting list I've now reached the dizzy heights of position 2,454!

One day my son, one day.

Believable18 Unbelievable0

03 Aug 2017 17:26:12
Crazy! What number did you start at? 🤔.

03 Aug 2017 18:13:31
Wow. I'd be encouraged by that especially with the new stand being considered.

03 Aug 2017 18:52:58
Nearly there mate, last time I checked I'm 5798 after a mere 14 years on the list 😢.

{Ed025's Note - you have,nt missed much mate..

03 Aug 2017 18:54:13
They sent out a letter in 2011 to shorten the list to the top 25,000 and then closed the list to new applicants. Moved a bit last year cos of the new stand so yeah if we do another one I may be in luck.

Fingers crossed ey.

03 Aug 2017 19:03:31
Out of the 8,000 or so additional seats in the new stand, only 2,000 were allocated to new season tickets.

03 Aug 2017 19:05:53
I was on the list for 9/ 10 years, then missed the renewal in as I was overseas with the army and didn't get the letter. When returning I rang to try and get myself on the list and the club where having none of it, I thought that was pretty rubbish considering the circumstances. Reckon I would have got in when the new main stand was opened.

{Ed025's Note - come over to the blues cobra..weve got loads left mate..

03 Aug 2017 19:12:56
yeah I remember being charged £5.00 for the privilege to stay on the list (Bargain), looking on the bright side if I was number 25000 I'm doing well 😁.

03 Aug 2017 19:14:28
I wonder why you do Ed25 😂

#LiverpoolsRed.

{Ed025's Note - no norwegians mate..

03 Aug 2017 20:21:32
I waited 27 years and got mine last year.

03 Aug 2017 21:46:18
I've been on 25 and am in the 1800's.

03 Aug 2017 22:30:10
No norwegians, fair play Ed, made me chuckle.

03 Aug 2017 16:49:47
Hi, any update in Can signing a new contract? And where does Milner fit in next season? Shocking lastnite and not going to force his way back into midfield! RB is the only place I can see him playing and cover for LB!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Aug 2017 15:43:17
Afternoon Eds
I know you don't like talking about random players but was just wondering on your thoughts about Diego Godin world class imo but maybe getting on a bit I know he is Ath Madrid to the core but just wondering if anybody had ever tested Athletico's resolve with a bid, he is the type of vocal imposing leader that we so badly need at the back .
Cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - they have always made it clear he is not for sale and he has never exhibited interest in moving on while Simeone is in charge.}

03 Aug 2017 16:08:53
Cheers Ed
Super player though love to have him alongside Maltip type of CB we are crying out 4 imo .

03 Aug 2017 14:14:45
Hi ed01 if your around. You mentioned in reply to a post a couple of days you Bruce the will be two to three more possibly brought in, after VVD I'm struggling to think who. Keita next year possibly so given grujic form and improvement each game and Kent and TAA showing well, who or where do you think we will look at improving? On here all the time as on leave but none been mentioned consistently. Thanks and look forward to the answer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - what makes you think I was restricting it to first team players only?}

03 Aug 2017 15:53:35
Nothing mate lol. We have a ban on home academy players. And to b honest given our success rate with buying kids and holding on to them they should have their own page on here. I suspect CB is where we will strengthen and cover at lW.

{Ed001's Note - it was not meant to be a definite answer or anything. I just know we wanted to add four more players this summer (VVD, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain and a right back) so I was assuming we would get an alternative, if not the original players, in half of those cases. Hard to say as the transfer market hinges on so many things. One move can be the catalyst for a whole string of others, so I was say or three thinking there might be another Wijnaldum, whose club needs to offload a player Klopp likes.}

03 Aug 2017 16:09:27
Ok mate. I suspect VVD and couts will affect everything and keita in twelve months ( that's when I think couts will leave my self) . Think we're a bit light at the back for me, both mancs strengthened well and Chelsea, and if they were to get mbappe and mahrez for Costa can't see past them. Just a thought that lol.

03 Aug 2017 16:13:23
Oh last thing, I'd buy demerai grey and loan ojo to Newcastle. Think one of those two will make it good next year. I like grey he seems ahead now.

{Ed001's Note - why on earth do you think that of Gray? He is terrible. Got plenty of skill but no brains and constantly wastes possession.}

03 Aug 2017 16:30:07
Heres me thinking we are sbout done ed seens as season starts soon. I guess there could be a bit of action soon then. We definitely need to strengthen at the back.

03 Aug 2017 17:58:26
So ed, although it seems quite to us there is still things going on that we are not privy to I guess? I certainly thought there would be more outgoings and loans tbh.

If we sign Gray then it will be a disaster of a transfer window.

03 Aug 2017 12:11:01
One for ed2 if I may. I was just wondering what the reverberations have been in the boardroom/ financial side of the football following this neymar transfer? The sort of "buy out clauses " that these superstars have were always set at such ridiculously high figures that they were (or seemed) fairly pointless and almost more for show. Now that someone is actually going to stump up £200m I imagine there are CEO everywhere wondering what on earth is going to happen to transfer fees and also "buy out clauses" that are in existence. I mean what next, a £500m clause? This is such a unique occurrence, is it going to lead to big changes?

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The initial impact on English and other wealthy sides looking to buy abroad will be a potential hike in prices. The English market is already over-valued so may well have topped out by now. The shrewed may take the high-risk option of waiting until the tail end of the window - Spurs with Daniel Levy have often done this, and others may follow suit. But keep in mind there are only a tiny handful of players who demand vast sums of money so this is an exception. Potentially worse than this in concept is what may soon happen with Mbappe - not higher numbers but less justifiable high numbers.}

03 Aug 2017 13:57:30
Wasn't Ronaldo's 1 Billion euros?!

03 Aug 2017 14:47:52
Do you expect that the issues in Italy in the nineties, i. e that they were paying astronomical fees, could impact English football in a similar fashion?

{Ed002's Note - I don't understand the question Dave.}

03 Aug 2017 16:46:51
Thanks ed, has it shocked the boardrooms of clubs or to some extent have they just been waiting for this sort of thing to happen from one of the super rich owners?

{Ed002's Note - I don't really understand the terminology.}

03 Aug 2017 17:11:23
In my vague memory, I seem to recall Italy being the country and league that could afford to pay high transfer fees and wages, simikar to England now, in which for some reason it all faded out with less temptation for players to join.

I was assuming that quite literally the arse fell out of the league as a consequence of them not being unable to sustain this, and was concerned that at some point the same may happen in England.

In fact, im not necessarily concerned about the English league as things are ridiculous, but surely this cannot continue at this rate?

{Ed002's Note - OK Dave.}

03 Aug 2017 18:15:45
I just meant have clubs, even big clubs, been taken a back by this sized deal, or has it been expected that one of the psg/ Man City type clubs would one day make an astronomical bid for a player. I mean, we're (allegedly) talking about more than double the fee for any player before.

{Ed002's Note - Not to any great extent - there are a handful of players who would be very expensive to trade and these include the likes of Neymar, Messi and Ronaldo and, particularly Neymar as he is younger and marketable. Everyone knew that Barcalona would need to do something with him or Messi this year. The transfer fee is a shrug to some extent - the wages and remainder of the deal are a far larger issue. If Mbappe does make a move it could well be for a very large but affordable amount - but the size of the wage etc. will be much less. It is all context and nobody is in shock (except oddly English fans).}

03 Aug 2017 21:14:11
Thanks ed.

Did he say Everton were going to finish above Liverpool?

03 Aug 2017 13:54:35
Ok not to worry Ed, it was on one of the main sports pages, just goes to show even sports journalists are not exactly clear!

03 Aug 2017 14:14:33
Barcelona have given up on bringing in Coutinho but have decided that Moreno would make an excellent winger after all and bidding GBP80m for him to replace neymar?

03 Aug 2017 14:34:31
Since when have sports journalists ever been clear?

03 Aug 2017 14:48:49
or did it say Liverpool will win the league 😂😂😂.

03 Aug 2017 15:20:01
Best thing about this 'rivalry' with Everton, is that not once have I ever checked the Everton rumours page.

03 Aug 2017 15:33:12
Is there an Everton rumours page?

03 Aug 2017 15:40:39
Neither do the Everton fans fencey! 😂😂😂.

03 Aug 2017 15:42:12
rumour has it, yes.

03 Aug 2017 17:38:41
It said Naby Keita is not for sale.

03 Aug 2017 13:03:19
Moreno has always needed to improve his decision making (when to stand off and when to challenge, when to bomb forward and when to check) and his positioning. Of all things in a footballers education, these are things that can be learned and should come more naturally anyway with age, experience and good coaching. It would also help him hugely if he had a vocal centre-half who organised the back line - the whole team would benefit from an organiser at the back. He's a diamond in the rough in my opinion and deserves another shot.

ps - this ain't just on the back of the Bayern performance. He's always been highly rated since youth 'cos he fits playing at the top level. Get his confidence back up and watch him blossom.

Believable7 Unbelievable5

03 Aug 2017 13:54:09
Absolutely agree, and posted earlier on the rumours page the same. The questions should be asked of our coaches, although I think a more stable back line and goalie would help hugely. I like ward, we don't need three experienced GK and mignolet ended the season well. We should have got ruddiger but didn't for CB but I think lovren and matip showing signs of a good partnership.

03 Aug 2017 14:19:52
I live in Pompey now Pompeyred, see Pompey have a new owner with a lot of money. They get big crowds and could do well. Place to think of loaning our kids. and SG should have tried for manager, he could still play that level.

03 Aug 2017 14:36:13
He's already been replaced in Robertson.

03 Aug 2017 14:44:43
Robertson has the same issues, he's good going forward but defensively wanting. And if milner moves over to the right on his natural foot were still short. Flanagan has looked poor for a while now.

03 Aug 2017 15:03:02
Also how Olds milner? He won't get in our midfield if we pick our strongest side. I've made it clear the lad Moreno needs coaching not saying he's brilliant, but why we paying coaches? EDs are right why have an academy and reserves if we just buy in finished products? Our manager, board, and scouts rated him enough to pay well for him so where is the problem? And not just this lad. For every raheem over the last twenty years there is a hundred we have moved on. What the h*#k are our coaches paid for. That or we have the worst scouts in the world.

03 Aug 2017 15:17:24
This is definitely off the back of the Bayern game because before then, no one had a positive word to say about Moreno on these pages.

03 Aug 2017 18:57:21
I thought Flanno was trying too hard to impress,
I think he knows the writing is on the wall.

03 Aug 2017 19:21:49
It's not just after the Bayern game 87. Like RNred said, we must've seen something in Moreno to fork out the money for him initially and if I remember right he was highly thought of in Spain, even possibly as a future Real Madrid player. I do also think the boy has suffered from a lack of leadership in that back line. Someone to coach him through games and tell him where he's going wrong. He possibly had too much confidence in his first season, twinned with trying too hard. I just think we should all give the guy another chance and I got a feeling Klopp may just do it.

{Ed025's Note - misunderstood just like balotelli pompey..

03 Aug 2017 19:40:11
Ballotelli has always been a Hampton Ed025. Maybe Moreno deserves a tiny bit of credit for keeping on trying after the disappointment of last season?

ps good luck tonight you'll be fine :)

{Ed025's Note - cheers mate..

Have we any chance of signing mbappe echo reporting klopp is in regular contact. if couts goes we could use the 100 mil plus to get him in?

Believable2 Unbelievable15

03 Aug 2017 11:17:47
There's more of a chance of signing John Lennon.

03 Aug 2017 11:28:38
Just 'Imagine'. 'John Lennon has been spotted at John Lennon airport'

03 Aug 2017 11:31:07
'Regular contact' more tapping up then.

03 Aug 2017 11:48:29
Madmax ever thought that we have permission to talk to his representatives, like a few teams have?

03 Aug 2017 12:28:43
That sounds way to sensible for us.

03 Aug 2017 12:29:10
I would do disgusting things for us to sign mbappe.

03 Aug 2017 13:04:33
So pretty much business as usual @Josh?

03 Aug 2017 13:05:07
Don't want Mbappe. Good player and probably the best young talent in the world but he is not as good as Mane or Salah on the wing, and not as good as Firmino up front. Yet his piece tag would pretty much dictate he starts every week.

Long term he obviously has more potential than any of our front 3 as he could be the best in the world one day if he stays grounded. I would be seriously concerned about an 18 year old moving country away from most of his family (who will be keeping him level headed) and becoming a millionaire overnight. But most importantly, as he is not an immediate upgrade you pay for his potential. He has clearly stated he wants Real Madrid. So he either flops and we lose a fortune, or he is successful, and we make a profit when he forces a move to Madrid.

Why are people happy to take such an enormous risk on a kid who wants to use us as a stepping stone. At a similar age Hazard was banging in 30 a season in Ligue 1. Mbappe is a special talent, but it is very hard to judge just how special and with the market currently massively inflated, it is a bad time to be making gambles on €150m players who are an ACL injury away from a waste of money.

I'm sure I'll take some stick for this but he is just not as good as Mane, Firmino or Salah so why groom him for 3 years for Real Madrid? Is that what we want to be? A stepping stone? I don't care about profit. I want trophies and we are more likely to win things with the front 3 we have. At €30m he'd be worth the risk and an acceptable amount to be a rotational player.

The game has gone mad though and I hope Liverpool stay out of this nonsensical mega money. Let PSG, United, City, Barcelona and Madrid blow their billions.

03 Aug 2017 13:08:54
Josh- like paying £198 m?

03 Aug 2017 13:44:17
While I agree with most of your post MK, Hazard's best season in France was his last, where he scored 22 goals in total (league, cup and europe), and he was 21, so not exactly comparable.

Admittedly Mbappe is playing for a better team than that Lille team though.

Also saying 30M euros to be a rotational player would be what you would spend seems a tad ridiculous, in the same post as saying he could be the best in the world. Ibe went for £15m last season, was older than Mbappe, had played less first team football, and has NEVER been described as potentially the best in the world!

03 Aug 2017 13:48:25
waqas. yes there was a typo 'I would CONTINUE to do disgusting things to sign mbappe'

and yes Agger I would if it was up to me. fortunately for our owners bank accounts it's not.

03 Aug 2017 10:46:40
My thoughts on the VVD situation is that he will stay at Saints even if that means he rots in the reserves, or go to Che or Ars. They certainly won't want to talk to us or deal with us in anyway given the way we went about approaching the player.

I can't see he will hand in a TR as he will loose his slice of the cake, also I don't think his club will honour a TR even if he was to put one in.

Ive read on the Saints page that ed said there is no relationship between us and them meaning there has been no talks what so ever since our statement withdrawing interest.

A real shame and there is only one man to blame for this mess. Im not one to be calling our players but Klavan showed last night why we needed strength in that area of the defence, and as ed002 said, we could of had him if we had gone about things the correct way.

Believable2 Unbelievable18

03 Aug 2017 10:55:13
Well Klopp better have an alternative in mind then. Our defence still stinks and gives me the jitters. I don't want another season of our defenders letting the entire team down, we need a competent partner for Matip.

03 Aug 2017 11:31:17
If we offer the money they want they will take it regardless of whether it is us or Arsenal or Chelsea. You really think that if we make the best offer for them they'll turn it down out of spite.

03 Aug 2017 11:37:22
Considering what he'd potentially get in wage increase and signing on fee my view is he hasn't that much to lose. In fact a signing club may look at his deal as including what it takes to cover anything he has lost. I don't think this is like you or me losing a make or break annual bonus on a crap salary.

03 Aug 2017 12:16:49
Would be annoying to lose out on van Dijk after the hard work we put in tapping him up.

03 Aug 2017 14:39:56
Southampton won't let a £60m player rot in the reserves, ridiculous thing to say.

03 Aug 2017 16:50:38
Yes, its a waiting game for VVD, but the Saints can't keep hold of their star player, not play him, and miss out on 50 million plus . there has to be a tipping point, we just have to be on the alert .

03 Aug 2017 10:13:49
My thoughts on Moreno, I think ed001 says he has a great attitude in training, and has put the work in to improve - he just hasn't been able to over the course of last season. Klopp will know if he has shown that improvement, a friendly won't change his mind - I imagine he's just trying to up sell him to potential suitors.

Believable12 Unbelievable1

03 Aug 2017 09:53:42
For the sake of mine and many others sanity can we please have 24 hrs with no whinging. You are not the only ones who know the importance of finishing in the top 4. Listening to you is boring, negativity is boring.
Sakha has to go as does Markovic as they are clearly surplus to requirements. The weakest link in the first team squad is Klaven, who for me gets to much game time. Outside of that I believe we have a squad that's a year older that will be top 4.
We clearly have money to spend because we all but spent it on vvd and Keita. So I my opinion we aren't spending because Koop doesn't believe there are players who would IMPROVE first team. If there were players available I'm sure we would try to get them.

03 Aug 2017 09:13:34
Morning all

Worried about reports linking Coutinho with Barcelona and his ongoing silence.

I don't think that the club should sell him at any price this summer and there are several reasons for this:

1. We won't find a suitable replacement in time for the start of the season

2. Any potential replacement will take time to bed in and this will hamper this season's preparations

3. Any price for a replacement will be massively over-inflated if we do receive a large transfer fee for him

4. He is not in the last year of his contract so will still have a high value in next seasons transfer window if he were to stay

5. There is a world cup in Russia in 2018. Any player in their right mind will play their best in the forthcoming season in order to be selected for their national team in the tournament. So regardless of whether Coutinho would want to leave or not, he still has an incentive to play.

Believable16 Unbelievable1

03 Aug 2017 10:12:10
we keep him for at least one more season if plays like we know he can in the champions league and the world cup his value will sky rocket.

03 Aug 2017 14:03:51
Don't worry about the 'silence ' . every time I come on to this page we have a different poster who is a 'body language' expert that have about as much foresight as mystic meg.

03 Aug 2017 16:14:11
Considering the number of midfield, wide and attacking options it is likely the replacement is already there just maybe not capable of doing some of the things he does. The chances of going out and buying a like for like seem less likely at this stage. Maybe just improve the back ups.

03 Aug 2017 08:58:35
I've not had a chance to see any of the pre season games so I can't comment on Robertson first hand but I'm reading a lot of mixed opinions on him. The so called positive ones aren't really that positive if I'm reading between the lines correctly. And I'm sorry but all the moreno hailing after one game I'm not buying into either. So apart from a couple of the young lads maybe being ready for a chance at rb what the hell have we done to address our year on year problem area? I'm normally full of optimism at this point ( false hope) . But really concerned so far. Yes the window isn't closed but I've not even heard a murmour of a vvd alternative so far. We really do need a leader at the back there. I really hope plan a isn't just go outscore everyone again, as exciting as it is it's not going to work enough for silverware. I love klopp and would not swap him, love the lads too but can see next season having the same problems as we've had for a while now. Fourth is going to be a lot harder to get this year too. Which makes a more exciting race for it but I'm no neutral. Might come across as a doom merchant here . I'm optomistic with everything in front of defence and even mignolet now. He started to sway my opinion of him towards the end of last season. Maybe he could step up and be that leader at the back? Can you train a none leader into a leader? I don't know. hope so.

Believable5 Unbelievable11

03 Aug 2017 09:05:36
Robertson is just feeling his way in, give him time!

03 Aug 2017 09:18:14
I think he's played less than 90 mins in total. How on earth there can be mixed opinions I do not know. The kid is settling at a new club it will take time. Personally I thought he has been pretty good anyway.

03 Aug 2017 09:21:06
I will fencey, again, I can't comment on him as I've not seen him yet it the central defence I can comment on though. I was starting to rate sahko before his ban actually. I thought he was looking better, could there be any revival there? He must have really pissed klopp of behind the scenes. Also have I got false memories of lovren and clyne at saints. I'm remembering a far more assertive lovren and a better attacking clyne with a good few goals. Am I imagining this?

03 Aug 2017 09:21:44
He has only just moved to a major club, he is probably just being cautious so as not to make a glaring mistake. One thing I did notice, his close ball control when dribbling is excellent, one of those players whom the ball seems to stick to their feet.

03 Aug 2017 09:25:49
Ok let's not make this just about Robertson then.

03 Aug 2017 09:26:59
Is our defence good enough. no it's not.

03 Aug 2017 09:51:57
So good of you to pronounce our defence is still not good enough after they conceded 3 goals in 6 games that you haven't seen any of.

I've seen four of the 6 games and while I'm not claiming any wonders, they've looked less prone to making horrendous mistakes than last season and to have improved their positioning.

03 Aug 2017 09:52:34
Ffs he's hardly kicked a ball and already there's negative comments.

03 Aug 2017 10:01:59
Agree with Stuie, his close ball control is great! He loves to overlap and boy can he cross a ball! This i what we need at left back to break the defensive teams down. We need to all give him time! The contrast between him and Milner against Athletico was night and day, Milner constantly cut back on his right foot and passed back, kills the attack down the left every time, so predictable.

03 Aug 2017 10:05:40
Robertson has been at the club what 10 days? Great of you to judge him so quick! He is 23, stepped up another level, at a new club and just started training with the squad let's talk about him after a full season or maybe 2.

03 Aug 2017 10:17:20
Only 3 goals in the friendlies. oh must be a top draw defence all of a sudden then eh. Pull your head out of the sand.

03 Aug 2017 10:20:11
I pay good money to support my club and have every right to moan. The only reason I don't watch them live anymore is because I don't live in the same country anymore but I pay in other ways. My money goes into the club therefore I have as much right to an opinion even if I've not watched these " massive " friendlies.

03 Aug 2017 10:47:47
Personally I'm expecting the defence to improve this season even if we don't get VVD. Matip has a full season under his belt in the Prem and I expect him to be a bit more settled this season. Having an actual LB will improve the defence in many ways. Hopefully TAA will play more meaning Clyne won't be in the team which will be an improvement. And we saw a colossal improvement in Mignolet the back end of last season and that will put a bit more confidence into our defenders.

03 Aug 2017 10:54:33
Manners you pay nothing compared to FSG, if you claim to be a supporter you would realize what our restrictions are financially. We cannot compete by spending whatever Man City have spent on their defense but I bet our Goals Against is similar to Man City next season.

03 Aug 2017 11:00:25
Bla! Bla! Bla! Bla! Yada! Yada! Yada! Yada! But hey. you pay "good money". So yah, knock yourself out my guy.

03 Aug 2017 12:54:03
There seems to be this weird assumption that our defenders from last season will play at exactly the same level this coming season, and unless we buy players we can't improve. Our goalkeeper situation has massively improved without buying anyone, TAA's pre season performances show he could sort the Clyne problem, let's wait and see if we get a centre back or not. But as people have said, Matip and Lovren have now had a season playing together, I'm sure they will have improved from last year. Leave it to Klopp to see if that improvement is good enough for them to be our 1st choice pair.

I'm not saying we don't need a VVD or whoever, a top class centre back could take us up a level, but I don't doubt our current defenders haven't improved from last year.

03 Aug 2017 14:00:15
Robertson played 45 mins last night! Mixed reviews my a*se how can you judge him on that? He actually did well last night if your interested (as you haven't even seen a game) put some descent deliveries in and showed his attacking ability with a descent shot from outside the box. but he shouldn't even be judged as a signing yet, what's wrong with people? I think some
People are just so bored they need to write rubbish for the sake of doing something!

03 Aug 2017 14:07:30
Why is the original poster forming an opinion on something to his own admission knows zero about. hasn't seen Robertson or Moreno play yet he's 'really concerned'. Seems like it.

03 Aug 2017 15:22:20
I have seen enough of Robertson in a Liverpool shirt, to know that he will soon be a 1st teamer, I am impressed by him, he just like Salah, has clearly settled in really well, they are both left footers, adding a lot more balance to our team, I would definitely play Robbo from day one .

03 Aug 2017 08:28:54

03 Aug 2017 08:15:15
Morning Eds and fellow reds. Quick question, I think someone previously said Danny Ward may be 3rd choice but, do you think Klopp will keep an open mind? I like him as a keeper a lot and think he has the confidence to take on the challenge. Thanks in advance.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Klopp won't be starting Ward on anything like a regular basis. To be honest Ward needs to consider his future.}

03 Aug 2017 08:56:26
Eds have already said they don't pick the side. Only Klopp knows who is in his plans.

03 Aug 2017 09:20:04
Intentions could change. Who's to say Migs doesn't get injured and Ward gets his opportunities that way. You need three decent keepers now to compete and Wards time will come whether this year or next.

03 Aug 2017 10:42:23
How would the ed's dealt with the goalkeeping situation coming into this season?

Seems like a Deja Vu of when he came back from Scotland and just had to sit and not get any gametime!

{Ed025's Note - i would stick with migs myself TSR, i think he done really well towards the back end of the season and hopefully he can keep up that standard..

03 Aug 2017 11:53:18
Migs starts the season as 1st choice. But Klopp needs to make a decision over Ward or Karius. Neither will be happy being 3rd choice Gk which involves being sat in the stands for a majority of the season. And both Ward and Karius deserve to play at least half the games next season. So one stays and the other goes out on loan.
You can never keep 3 GKs vying for the 1st choice position happy at once, and I hope Klopp does not learn that the hard way.

03 Aug 2017 07:44:47

03 Aug 2017 01:11:04
WE now how much Barcelona got for Naymar so if they want Coutinio I'd tell them £150million or stop bothering us.

Believable9 Unbelievable9

03 Aug 2017 07:12:43
Or tell them to stop wasting their time and look elsewhere for Neymar's replacement.

03 Aug 2017 07:42:58
Surely PSG have broken FFP Rules. Unless they sell some players to the value of £X amount. £100 million for Coutinho probably couldn't replace him with who is available right now. Make him stay one more season like we did with Suarez. He's got a contract to the club. We'll still get huge money for him next summer considering we paid £8 million for him.

03 Aug 2017 08:02:33
But doesn't Coutinho want out? What's the point of making him stay if he and his agent are actively looking for the move.

He might want out but he doesn't seem to be having a tantrum and going on strike, he keeps performing for us and it's no secret that Barcelona have been interested for some time. He's never let it affect his performance and I admire him for that. As a club we just need to get the most out of him in his remaining time with us!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe one of the ed's said that a special agreement can be made for this transfer - or others of this size.

{Ed002's Note - It is not quite like that.}

The agents and player will just use other tactics to avoid paying taxes etc like all the dodgy money men do.

Surely with our recent history its a good thing that its quiet.

Probably good news for the precious people who seem to get very upset when other fans comment or ask a question. Yet bring nothing to the party themselves.

The silence is a smokescreen. there's big transfers being planned behind closed doors. Maybe.
