Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

03 Dec 2012 23:24:37
Eds of all the websites, journo's and papers (other than your respected opinion) which do you think give the most accurate information in terms of transfer rumours and actual signings made as I'm getting bored now of reading hundreds of players linked when Rodger himself has said 99% are untrue?

Really getting excited and nervous more Bout January than imam about Xmas! {Ed001's Note - Guardian is the most accurate.}

ED'S DOES RODGERS NOT RATE NGOO?? He is more fit to play in the prem than Morgan or yesil

RONILLZ {Ed001's Note - in what way is he more fit?}

Hahah ed
but ngoo is physically suited to pl
he gt pace and power {Ed001's Note - it is exactly that kind of thinking that has seen the English national team fall so far behind the likes of Spain. It is not all about pace and power.}

I agree. He has all the physical attributes big strong fast with an eye for goal. What more do u want. Jayo {Ed001's Note - good touch and consistency would be good.}

To be fair Ed since he came back from injury he showed a real hunger and improved touch this season, added to that he scored goals regularly when starting at the beginning of the season. I thought he might be an alternative in the Europa....

Richards

Agree with ed here :-)

Ed he has touch and consitancy ... He isn't even getting a look at and sporadic Morgan gets the nod before him is a bit confusing but who am I right...

Ronillz {Ed001's Note - because he has no consistency and his touch varies between brilliant and terrible. Nothing confusing about it, the coaches simply know more than you.}

04 Dec 2012 11:04:29
I agree with Ed,to be honest,i'm surprised he is still at the club. Sometimes he looks like a world beater,and players cannot touch him for his strength and pace. Other times,he looks cumbersome,off the ball and gangly. He just doesn't look like a player Rodgers is going to keep,so i cant see the sense in keeping him. I think he will leave Liverpool sooner rather than later,
WelshBoyDave

How about Adorjan Ed? I'm surprised he's not been considered yet, do you see Rodgers giving him game time with the first team some time? {Ed001's Note - personally I really like Adorjan and think he would fit in snugly in our system, but the fact he has yet to have a chance suggests the management think otherwise. The lad desperately needs experience to improve his decision making, he won't get that in the stiffs.}

People keep saying Walcott will sign a new deal...what's he waiting for? Xmas? ;)

Shak Attack

I think hes waiting for Liverpool

Nailed on to sign for us!

Yesterday I posted atleast 9 players whom are wanted by teams competing in the champions league,

An unamed poster responded saying cypriot teams and fc basel are in the champions league arguing a point that theres a varied scale of quality in the competition

Whilst this is true it has no relevance to my original post as the 9 players I mentioned in our team have been linked and are wanted by teams competing in the chanpions league from the premiership, la liga and serie A

If youd like to see the post im talking about then just search my tag name, please also keep in mind the post doesnt include players like Joe Allen whom was wanted by a chanpions league team from the PL before we bought him

Cheers

Shak Attack

I posted a comment explaining your point is failed, Basel, or any number of teams from weaker leagues around the World in the Champions League, would take our players in an instance, but money and financial limits permit them not to do so.

9 players, com'on man.

Who was the champs league team interested in allen ed?
Indian Buzzer {Ed001's Note - I can't remember any Champions League team being interested in him, I am not sure what a 'Champions League team' actually is. Is it a past winner? Recent winner? Or do you mean a team that happens to be in this season's one?}

03 Dec 2012 21:59:15
Hi eds! Can you tell me who looks the most likely to sign for liverpool in the january window even if its a loan deal. And i know you dont like butland but wouldnt you think he would be great to replace reina in a near future i think he suits us!

He can learn from pepe. {Ed002's Note - We cannot answe a "most likely" question.}

There's a saying that familiarity breeds contempt. I feel both Theo Walcott and Daniel Sturridge suffer from being better known to fans on this forum than some of the ones proposed by the MOTD fever and Jonny Foreigner loving types.

Here's why both make sense...

Walcott
More than 182 senior appearances aged just 23
Averaged more than 10 goals per season in last 2.5 yrs
Around double figures per season for assists
An experienced international who's played in plenty of big CL games as well
Blistering pace and more mature finishing now
Can play across front three
Available for less than half his real market value
Gettable for half the Carroll money!!

Sturridge
Better than 1 goal in 4 apps despite not being a regular at a big club
Only season at CFC he played more than 40 games he scored 13 goals and provided 7 assists
England international who's played in plenty of big CL games as well
Blistering pace and more mature finishing
Can play across front three
Available for less than half his real market value
Available for the other half of the Carroll money!!

Compare these records in PL/CL with some of the players put forward on here.

They are known to BR, have the footballing arrogance he likes and would add at least 25 goals and 20 assists to our team between them.

Sorry guys, these signings make sense.

PieInTheSkyMan

PS: Think of something more original in reply than "They're carp" or "Your name says it all"

Finally sum1 with some logic and sense

I agree 100% Pie

Cheers

Shak Attack

Couldn't agree more mate I think they are the two players we need to challenge for CL spot after Christmas, we're outplaying every team as it is, the goals and assists those two would bring will have us challenging for top 4 this season, no doubt about it!

JJ

People said the same about Downing and Carroll. However, I do think Walcott is worth the money but not Sturridge

We can get in better players than those for similar prices overseas. It just takes some actual scouting work.

BthekingB

I would rather bent than sturridge. Look at the stats over the years. He almost guarantees goals.
Jayo

I like the idea of both because they can play on either side of Suarez in the wing forward positions. I also like the versatility that both could play up top via squad rotation.

What wages would these two want? Could we offer them what they want?

LIVERPRES

Sturridge assists??

cozinoz

04 Dec 2012 05:52:20
oki suggest aubameyang

this season 13 games, 8 goals and 4 assists

This season

aubameyang striker13 games 8 goals 4 assists

wilfriedbony striker 15 games 15 goals 3 assissts

dries mertens am 15 games 7 goals 9assists

all better than either sturridge or walcott

All three aubameyang bony and mertens contribute more goals and would cost less than either walcott or sturridge

stop this buying british fallacy....ourtop two players are lucas and suarez bothsouth americans. both havemore fight in them than any of our engliishlads...

walcott worht 8million tops
sturridge about thesame

but actual priceswll be bloated by about 75 percent...its awaste of finances

Mate.. The biggest problem with signing these two is the fact they both wanna play down the middle? They will want garentees in there contracts.. something we wont be able offer?

Your reasoning and statistics I'm affraid are seriously flawed.
Both players play for teams that have been very successfull in the time they have been there and tend to dominate teams. They both make substitute appearances which quite often is when games are allready comfotable.
Statistics are dangerous, it is better to scout the player for his perfomance.

All three bony, aubamayeng and mertens have played pretty much every game this season for their respective clubs. Sturridge and Walcott have not. Not a good comparison to make. Mertens has quoted that he wants to finish this season with psv. Bony might be priced out of a move but he is still likely. Aubamayeng would also be likely but he would prefer to move to a club playing in the champions league (ideally AC Milan).

Live in london and have plenty of gunner mates and I'd say 80% of them would swap walcott for lennon. In a heartbeat

These stats will kill us one day..
can we go back and check adam, henderson, downing and caroll stats?????

04 Dec 2012 11:31:11
Arsenal have been successful in the time Walcott has been there?? Every summer since he's been there they've sold their best player and haven't won one single trophy as they haven't won anything for nearly 8 years now!!

Lad Walcott i ll agree with.Sturridge selfish,greedy,poor attitude.Not a regular even when Torres not playing.Even Chelsea fan Ed 002 says similar to myself

03 Dec 2012 20:51:33
Fernando Torres says he'd like to finish his career at Chelsea.

I thought he already had?

Haha that one made me chuckle.

AsianRed

He finished his career with us and went to get a final pay off at the Bridge.

That's him gone in January then.
Last time he said that in December he handed in a transfer request the next month.

MIKEY

Nah mate, he finished his career with us

Thats one dream he has fulfilled ha ha

Neilos

To be fair to the lad, he rests in our thick and very heavy book of Liverpool football legends. There exists no such book at the bridge I'm afraid.

03 Dec 2012 20:40:08
Do people really think Sturridge and Walcot are the answer? You are all convincing yourselves that we are getting them based on no substance and the fact their names just getting repeated over and over again; just wait and see what happens in Jan.

Let's be honest, no one knows who we are looking at or how much we have, stop recycling rubbish from the net, papers and names from fifa games. {Ed001's Note - actually we know Sturridge was a target in the summer and his contract is running down. That is why his name is being bandied about on here.}

You realise this is a rumours sight right? and people post rumours on this website and they may not be necessary true facts? You basically said stop posting rumours on a website for rumours.. You sir are a genius!

Actually i think Although Walcott isnt the whole answer as no 1 player is, he is a big piece of the jigsaw for our squad which lacks pace and goalscoring midfielders

U only have to look at his goalscoring and assist record to see that, hes not even reached his peak yet

Hes been arsenals 2nd top goal scorer for the past 2 seasons just after RVP

His 15 goals and assists a season will be more than welcomed

Cheers

Shak Attack

I don't get why some people get so angry about posts discussing players linked with us. It's a feckin rumours site as already been stated. If you don't like it then don't feckin read it. Bell end
FowlerisGod

They are wrong answer to a very good question...
we need a striker with attitude towards goal..not to the money, nor to the position..
both looks attitude kings..

Ha ha agree with post directly above,but calm down fella.Your as bad as me for losing it with some .....on here

03 Dec 2012 20:19:10
Anyone watching the Newcastle game? If that was Suarez I guarantee that a penalty wouldn't have been given and to red card the guy as-well? In one incorrect swoop the so-called ref has ruined what was proving to be an interesting contest. Refs in this country are a joke.

Totally agree, but we are just suppost to sit back and not mention it, in reality we would be much higher in the table if the right calls were made and BR would be a hero instead of ppl calling for his head

Is anyone else as confused as me about ole whiskey nose? I mean let me explain; last season he let Paul Pogba go (an exceptional talent doing very well for Juventus and no disrespect but undoubtedly better than Raheem), due to him asking for £20k-a-week. But, he wants Sterling who is asking for £50k-a-week...wtf? Thoughts eds?

AsianRed {Ed001's Note - I don't see that it is really of any import what he says.}

Memory loss is a sign of old age.

MIKEY

'undoubtedly better than raheem'

being 1 year older (pogba), he wasn't even the best player on the pitch on numerous reserve team games between lfc and man utd last year and previously before that.

and wasn't his desired 15/20k a week that pogba wanted pretty much the norm for a 1st pro contract at man utd & lfc these days. lfc just signed suso on a similar such contract. {Ed002's Note - It is nothing with Pogba and teh contract offer was not why Pogba left.}

03 Dec 2012 23:45:11
Pogba wanted assurances about first team appearances or something didn't he? Certainly there was more too it than money and the player's ability.

Maybe they just didn't like each other.

- Something Red -

Old Whiskey Nose will do whatever is in his power to drive up our wage bill or transfer fees. Recall Fergies "Charlie Adams free kicks are worth £10 million alone." He's a clown, and anything he says about Liverpools business should be ignored.

LiverBird

LAD post above correct.Lfc too influenced by Taggarts slimey double standard misdirection re.us in past

03 Dec 2012 19:16:52
Ed do rate Morgan as player cheers.MATTYLFC {Ed001's Note - yes, if he can just calm down a bit and stop trying too hard he will be a good player for us.}

See his finish today?! Bleedin heck

: new royal baby is 20/1 to be next Chelsea manager

I heard its mr bean if rafa gets the boot

True Red7

Wow Rafa will be there for a few years then?

Dont know what all the fuss about the royal baby is for , i am looking for more overtime its going to cost us (the taxpayer) a fortune , pity they dont run the royals like fsg are trying to run our great club !!..............andy. {Ed001's Note - just watch Prince William refuse to shake Terry's hand.....}

03 Dec 2012 18:38:54
With Suarez out for the next league game who does every one think the front three will be? Manager mode people!

Deanalfie

Suso, Shelvey, Sterling

I think Shelvey will be the answer against West Ham, not saying he'll score, but i think he'll surprise a few playing uP top. if he does play as a striker, that is!

He's had a run out in the Europa League and surprising for some, he's the second highest goal scorer so far this season behind the magician that is Suarez, Shelvey has scored 4 goals in 8 games and all in the Europa League where he's been given more licence to get forward or be played as a forward.

So, i think after his dress rehearsals in Europa, Rodgers will favour him as the spear head (no egg jokes ;). He also played as a striker for a few games when he was at Blackpool on loan, he fetched a few goals for them and from midfield, so he knows how to finish here or there.

I personally can't help but love the lad, he's as cocky as anyone can be and full of confidence which comes through on the pitch, especially when he's next to someone as flat and jaded and down on their lucky football wise as Jordan Henderson, who has all the makings of a quality midfield player with excellent fitness, but can't pull it off when on the pitch, although he has been looking a lot sharper on the pitch lately, to give him his dues.. There's a point....

I'd like to see yesil get a game.
Also, I watched the U21's this afternoon on LFC TV (day off sick! lol) and there was a Hungarian guy called Adorjan that looks really promising!

Big Kev

Being realistic here, and Downing, Sterling and Suso should start.

Piledriver

Can't see it being anybody but Sterling but hey...what do i know?

IncaMan

Sterling Shelvey Gerrard

Henderson Lucas Allen

I think we will pack the midfield, Gerrard had a good game on the right wing, Sterling will obviously start, the only change i think will be Henderson for Suarez, hopefully Morgan and Yesil will be on the bench.

BigD

I can see BR going more to the 4-1-3-2 and having Sterling and Suso/Shelvey up top.

RyanWhittingtonandHisCat

Anyone think we shud just push gerrard up front and let two wingers support him?
That way he wouldnt have to worry about tracking back, and we could have our pick of lucas, allen, sahin, shelvey, or henderson as our middle three?
Jak

Yesil cannot be on the bench as hes picked up a knock and hasn't player for the U21's in a while so don't expect him to be on the bench hes injured.

Cole. Did it the other day

Cole up front. Think about it, we are putting him the who window for big Sam to buy in jan. ;)

Lee73

Assaidi Shelvey Sterling
Gerrard Allen
Lucas
Enrique Johnson
Agger Skrtel
Jones
Would be my pick. I picked Jones cause I think he is better at handling air balls, and at west ham i expect quite a few.

Was thinking of a 4-2-4 formation with Lucas & Allen in the middle, whilst Assaidi, Shelvey, Gerrard & Sterling taking up the the front 4 slots. Just my 2 cents. Cheers! ZA13

hi eds and reds id like to hear some decent views from the supporters to see how they feel about the teams progress this season.Im very optimistic about brendan rodgers and the ideas hes started to put into the team bit by bit its coming together to me the glass is half full.

gee man

Very happy with Rodgers and with the style of play, could do with a bit more luck though . The only problem for me is with the style that he likes we definitely need a better class of player to pull it off properly but all in all quite happy for now.

We're dominating matches now, home and away, last season we were getting battered by teams, ie Bolton 3-1, them days are over thank god, all we're missing now is a killer instinct in front of goal and hopefully that will come in January with a couple of decent signings, think we'll take the 3 points on Sunday, good times ahead me thinks!

JJ

I feel a lot more confident now that Lucas is back! I do feel we are getting better and with good buisness in the window that 4th spot do'snt look that far fetched after all!

03 Dec 2012 18:13:20
Tom Ince will be the only permanent signing in January with loan moves for Darren Bent and David Villa also lined up. Transfer funds being held back until the summer with a £60mil budget at Rogers disposal. Part of that budget will go towards Theo Walcott on a free transfer with wages of 90K a week plus a £5mil signing on fee.
Whammy {Ed002's Note - It is not possible to loan Bent and Villw whilst Sahin is at the club.}

Yes it is possible ed, teams can loan 2 premier league players at one time throughout the season, different rules with players from the continent! {Ed002's Note - That is not what the rules say, but I have no stomach to explain things so, whatever you want.}

03 Dec 2012 17:55:24
Seeing as though we've been drawn with non-league opposition in the FA cup, i'd love to see Adorjan, Texeira and Ibe have a run out. Just a one off though need them to develop properly.

AsianRed {Ed052's Note - It would eb lovely to see yes. I should expect that Sinclair will get a full game too. We could put out our reserve team (the full one) and easily win I would suggest}

03 Dec 2012 19:00:27
Does anyone else get the feeling we'll draw or only narrowly win, though?

That's what usually happens when we get 'easy' opposition in the cups.

- Something Red -

I've said it before - the F.A.Cup is the on competition that Liverpool should ALWAYS take seriously

No disrespects to Lincoln but we need to smash them to show we mean business and not struggle through to the next round. Remember Northampton when silly Roy was in charge!

Asian Red we aint strong enough as yet to overly weaken squad

Hi Eds

Just wanted to know who if there is any interest in any LFC players and from which clubs.

Secondly from those players who is most likely to leave.

YNWA-SA {Ed052's Note - Interest in Cole, Hendo, Downing off the top of my head. All could leave if suitable replacements are found}

Suitable replacements....I just found a 2p coin, a button and a piece of fluff in my pocket ; )

Gav

Who is interested in Downing please Eds? i for one would be disappointed if Hendo leaves as I do really rate him. Thanks

JTR {Ed013's Note - Last I heard it was Arsenal}

Okay Gav you have won Downing

A swap for Walcott maybe?

MIKEY

Arsenal fancy SD? Proof there then that Wengers lost it lol. I'll drive him down there myself.

hey guys,a utd fan here and i come in peace,am from kenya so bear with me if i make grammatical errors.am an ardent reader of the site but have never posted.Let me say that i admire your fans for being patient and keeping the faith in Brendan rodgers whom i believe can get liverpool back on track my two best pals are liverpool fans and we hate the 2 sugar daddy clubs as a matter of fact here in kenya if you ask anyone 2 name 3 top teams in the epl they will name liverpool, man utd and arsenal.I love the rivalry cos the 2 teams have players that wud "die" for the team the likes of gerard,agger(the ynwa tattoo),giggs,scholes.All the best guys

Sorry your an ardent reader of this site and admire the patience of us LFC fans for backing Rodgers.

Well i too am a daily reader of the site, and you must scroll through hundreds of posts as i do and ignore them, as most on here want players executed, the manager banished to another dimension and the owners and his wife brutally beaten and pillaged.

Anyhow, nice for you to come and show respect, its not so common from other club fans. I am one who backs the manager and think he is doing a good job thus far, and is trying to take the club forward, it may take a step or two backward in order to do so.

All the best to you mate!

Nice to hear from you & justice for the Kenyans tortured under British rule,for the mau mau's & the 96 y.n.w.a

Ed002, do clubs pay tax on invoming transfer fees after they sell a player. Similarly, after agent fees, legal fees etc etc, what, roughly would be the net amount a club would receive. For example, if we sold Suarez for 30 mill, what amount could re reinvest in the market.

Daveevad {Ed002's Note - VAT is due on transfer fees in regions where VAT is chargable and some can be reclaimed. Depending on the individual deal agent fees will be paid buy the buying club or both. VAT is payable on agent fees but it cannot be reclaimed. Legal fees, signing on fees, relocation fees will all vary so I would not wish to try and answer the second part of the question.}

What is a relocation fee ed002? Also signing on fees? Usually free transfers or can a player/agent negoiate a signing on fee even if a transfer fee is paid? Cheers

The Irish Rover {Ed002's Note - Relocation costs relate to getting the player in to Liverpool and settled. It will vary depending on where he or she is from. Signing on fees are typically higher for those moving without a transfer fee but they are often still paid for players for whom a fee is charged.}

Ed do u no if a players was injured does the insurance pay his wages till they recover and if a players suffered a career ending injury could tha club claim the transfer fee back thanks {Ed002's Note - It depends on the length and seriousness of the injury.}

All Vat can be reclaimed Ed002 and at the end of the year basically if you collect more VAT than you pay then you owe the exchequer some pound and vice-versa.
From a trainee accountany {Ed002's Note - You should try a different career.}

03 Dec 2012 16:58:17
Anyone have any info on how Yessil is developing? I see on the team website he is listed as a member of the first team. Does that mean he plays reserve games and not for the under 21's? If he is playing reserve games anyone know how well or not well he has been doing?

Thanks.

Lee {Ed052's Note - Reserve games are U21 mate. He picked up a kncok a couple of weeks back and hasn't played since. I am sure he will geta run with the reserves soon. At the minute he has hardly played.}

03 Dec 2012 16:50:43
hi eds, is there any chance of a swap with newcastle; carroll for ba?
YNWA {Ed052's Note - No}

03 Dec 2012 16:46:30
According to the mail liverpool are to renew their interest in diame as he has a release clause in his contract at west ham allowing him to move in January. Any truth in this Eds? {Ed052's Note - I woul highly doubt it}

03 Dec 2012 16:44:16
hi eds is there any chance we may bid for michu of swansea? {Ed052's Note - no}

03 Dec 2012 16:28:26
Hey Eds,can anyone say any thing on Sterling's contract??will it be sorted out
also Adorjan has been great for u21....will he get a chance soon???
MAnoj {Ed052's Note - It has been suggests that a deal will be agreed by the end of next week. I would agree with that, and suggest that it will be done by next Wednesday. Adorjan may well get a chance in the FA Cup. Otherwise, I cannot see him playing}

03 Dec 2012 16:11:31
I reckon Adorjan may get a look in soon hes been playing extremely well for the U21's and scored 8 goals so far as well. {Ed052's Note - It doesn't seem as if he will get a look in at the minute. Perhaps the FA cup will be a chance or him to have a match?}

I hope he does get a chance. He has upped his game in the last year and IMHO he has earned a first team chance.
His levels of constancy have improved as he always had the skill and vision. He does not drift out of games as much now and wants to be involved.
He looks loyal as well. Lets see if Stirling is or whether its gone to his young head.

03 Dec 2012 16:04:07
Eds, here's 15m.......sturridge or Torres?

JOZLFC {Ed052's Note - Sturridge. But you'd rather me up fornt. At least I pass more than Sturridge and know what a goal is for, unlike Torres}

I'd have Torres back tomorrow. {Ed052's Note - Why?}

03 Dec 2012 16:33:22
Neither, Torres head has gone an sturridge is very poor, were becoming a joke with these signings

Athletico madrid fan will have torres back tommorow.obviously they need a body to replace falcao

Why would you have torres back? have you been watching any football lately? stop living in the past because at the moment he is playing awful,you'll never see the old torres again
welsh red

Someone trying to be clever posting making out it's my reply to the eds but I have to say if it was one or the other I'd gamble on Torres, people say hes passed it but not 1 person on this planet knows, personally think he needs a fresh start away from Chelsea and he will be back on form wherever he ends up

JOZLFC

Torres is not technically good enough to play our new system, his first touch and close control is awful

JJ

I'd take sturridge, i have no doubt he will get goals. My problem with him is the number of clear cut chances he will cost us through his ego and greed.
derryred

"were becoming a joke with these signings" Really? We havent made these signings. Maybe see what actually happens and then make a judgement on its success rather than reflecting on your club based on paper talk and hypotheticals. Just an idea.

Andy K

Look at his first touch and close control when he played for us, you dont just lose it JJ, the only thing Torres has lost is his confidence and he will never be the player Chelsea want him to be.

Just seen Theo walcott in central station. Could he be coming to talk wages with us? {Ed052's Note - no}

From London he would arrive at Lime street on Virgin train surely?

He might be getting the train to sandhills before walking up to anfield

Central station pub maybe?

THATS why he wants a wage bump from Arsenal.....so he doesn't have to use public transport any more

Ed052: you seem like a really nice guy and love reading your replies, I just want to say thank you for taking the time to answer our questions I really apreciate it

Eric the red {Ed052's Note - N'aww, thanks mate!! *Blushing*}

Ohhh you guys! please get a room... xx

Phooey...

I agree. I prefer him much more than Ed002! (wink)

Yea Ed 052 is ok.we all disagree at times but i seldom agree at all with Ed who rhymes with glue-its why he gets stick

03 Dec 2012 15:46:18
Hi eds do you think michu of swanea would be worth a gamble? he knows how to put the ball in the net !! {Ed052's Note - No, do we really want to play over the odds for a player again}

In michu's case i dont think u can say 'he has doubled his price tag' because he only costed 2m, and doubling would only make him 4m. not sure roughly how much he would cost, but definitely not 4m. id rather we go for someone else, or loan perhaps.

Kaizer

I'll tell you how much he would cost,Swansea wont let him go for less than £10 mill
welsh red

Welsh Red, at least that's better than paying £12 million for a Chelsea bench player who hasn't scored 10 goals this season. ;)

We keep harping on about bringing in big players in january but alonso wasn't a massive name when he arrived and neither was reina, while suarez and torres were players that no other club were willing to risk the investment. The one thing these players all had in abundance was hunger and that's a quality all future signings should have. Alot of players who we're linked with seem to have clouds hanging over them regarding their attitude. eg Sturridge-ego. Walcott-greedy and Ince-(he was obviously let go for a reason) . If any or all do sign on tho, i'll be more than happy to be proved wrong. MonaghanRed

No...the one thing in all these players had was quality...its simple..and they are maintaining it irrespective of where they are...execpt torres...simple..

Totally agree with this post. It's about the scouting network finding another Alonso / Reina / Torres, not bringing players back that will never be the same (except Alonso who I'd take back even if he was 45).
G

Firstly! Alonso Torres were signed in the summer! secondly! United tried three year's on the trot to sign Torres before he signed for us! And Torres is very unhappy since he left LFC and would crawl back to Anfield! Form is temporary class is permanent! I would love to see Torres back in the Red shirt!

Class may be permanent but speed is not.

Andy K

Torres wouldn't even wear an armband for the 96 .
And you want him back?
I'm I wrong eds?

When did he refuse? If that's true then he can never come back! If it's a mistake then I would take him back on loan with an agreed fee at the end of the season, say for 10mil, but we have the option and Chelsea pick up 60% of his wages.

Yea post above that woul;d be a sensible comprimise

Liverpool are interested in taking Max Clayton to the club in January. Eds would you not think that given that Rodgers is not afraid to play his youngsters as well as giving them every opportunity, would enhance our chances of bringing young stars to the club? {Ed052's Note - It could well do yes}

More chance of max clifford, squire

I would have thought that there was definately more of a chance of Max Clayton coming than Max Clifford. For a start, Clifford isn't a footballer, hes very old, and doesnt fit in with FSGs youth policy you sillybilly.

hi eds do you think diame would be a good buy for liverpool hes been great at west ham an hes got a clause in his contract? {Ed052's Note - no, i dont think he would be a good buy. If we didn't want him in the summer when we could have had him for free, then we are not going to get him now}

03 Dec 2012 14:46:17
Doing a great job as always eds comin into the silly season but a quick question eds? If you were forced into a answer, on gut feeling and in your view who do you think we will bring to the club in Jan? Cheers lads keep up the good work, johnny d {Ed052's Note - Well, the names I say now will not be the people we will sign. However, I would say Ince, Gomis and another}

I'm an Aussie and I wanna know what kewell was like for Liverpool don't really remember! When he wasn't injured was he all that good ? Or was he just potential that went to waste ? Can some one tell me

Sterlings sack of gold {Ed052's Note - He was a great player but far too injury prone. When he did play he was a very good player though}

Exatly..harry kewel..i loved him from the leeds time...he was a very good player..
ed what was the situation with luis garcia??..y did we let him go?? {Ed052's Note - I think he wanted to move back to Spain and be playing more}

I believe Luis Garcia went to Atletico Madrid as part of the Torres deal, could be wrong though.

davethebutcher {Ed052's Note - You could well be right mate.Its hard trying to jog my memory back so far haha}

It was agreed during the torres talks that garcia would move the other way but they were concluded as separate deals..

He wasn't part of the Torres deal, he just went to Atletico Madrid for around 4 mil

BthekingB

Ah I see, I knew they were done around the same time!

davethebutcher

Disagree Ed 052. Kewell was never a 'great player'. Even when fit (which was hardly ever) he was never involved in games and never really made an impact. He was far too inconsistent and never justified being given either the bumper contract he was on, or the No 7 shirt he wore
G {Ed052's Note - fair enough mate}

Champions league final going off injured when we were getting romped, then we won and he sprinted on the pitch....that's all I think of when kewells name gets mentioned

I've heard from a friend that our likely January signings will be Sturridge and Tom Ince - a combined fee of aprox £17m, which is the amount we are expected to receive from West Ham for Andy Carroll.

Anyone heard anything similar? {Ed052's Note - Both seem possible. We wont defo get that fee for Carroll however, and it wont be until the summer either}

Carroll will be back at Newcastle next season for a fee of around £12m rising to a possible £18m depending on future success.

ed052 thanks for those replies , to ask another would you say sturridge is the most likley as ed02 does? thanks steviep62 {Ed052's Note - At this moment, yes. But I wouldn't be so sure we will sign him, as I cannot see a £10m or less deal happening. I dont think we would pay over that. Thats only personal opinion though. Based on facts, he is very much the favourite.}

Then we wont sell him..either...simple..18 milll from west ham..thats the business...or else..sit and warm the bench..

'Then we wont sell him..either...simple..18 milll from west ham..thats the business...or else..sit and warm the bench..'

How does that make ANY sense for ANYONE? So Liverpool carry on paying big wages to a player who is just going to sit on the bench as opposed to biting their lip, taking the hit and selling him for a lower fee where we would still get some money back and he'd be off the wage, Carroll would be playing the sport he loves and a club would have got the player they wanted?

Some logic on here baffles me.

That was just being frustuation dude...it would have been better we give new castle 23 mill for free.....

ed 052 i asked ed02 a direct question a couple of weeks ago , which player would you choose to make a difference to lfc , within reason there answer was huntallar, what would your answer be? jan molbt said erikson of ajax , when i asked him on lfctv last week , i would be interested in your opinion thanks steviep62 {Ed052's Note - Walcott for me at this moment in time. If I could only have one signing that is}

Walcott for me as well, although I wouldn't be happy paying him 100k a week.

eds reds any truth in the rumour linking us to oscar cardoza? always looks good , great record , albeit in a weaker league but would be great with suaurez to me. even look a bit alike!! that would frighten defenders before they even start playing!!! godblees96 steviep62 {Ed052's Note - I think we have had him watched once if I remember correctly, but that was a long time ago. I dont think that at this time there is any interest in him, but rumours do keep circulating}

If true, these alleged rumours of Dani Pacheco's poor attitude and poor time keeping are very disappointing. Just shows how the smiley faces of Pacheco playing U21 matches don't always tell the truth.

03 Dec 2012 13:27:36
I dont understand why everyone seems so disappointed with the season so far.
We all expected to struggle with the lack of firepower up top and the mistake of not replacing carroll. I for one was happy to be mid table if it gave us an opportunity to bleed in the youngsters. (and its worked a treat) to be 7 points from 4th with the lack of depth we have had is remarkable.
I have watched every game this season and with the exception of 1 or 2 we have dominated without the cutting edge.
If it gets addressed in january (with quality) I fully expect the reds to make a late charge second half of the season.
P.S With a semi fit lucas in the middle (as seen on saturday) midfield looks good and will only get better as lucas finds his fitness

We're disappointed as we have only won 4 games against Southampton, Reading, Norwich and Wigan.

We have been lacking a cutting edge for 2 years. Even if that is addressed in Jan it's simply 6 months to late.

You don't understand why everyone is disappointed?

Oh OK, 12th place is fine then for Liverpool. Only 4 league wins all season and knocked out of the League Cup. Brilliant hey?

Let's get behind the manager and have blind loyalty. If anyone disagrees then they should go and support another team

How will it be 6 months too late if it helps us get in the top 4? We only have so much money we can spend each window and we have to prioritise on certain positions/players. This window the priority will be forwards. Red for life not just this season.

The need for a right out striker is the main target for LFC (as everyone knows) Suarez has been a revelation for LFC since he came. Now LFC are having about 15 to 20 attempts each game with him in the team and just a few years i was looking at LFC stats and we was struggling to get to 10. I hope he stays for many years to come and we get a 20 goal a season striker to put in the chances Suarez creates. IMO can't se Sturidge being that guy.

Hi Eds, any possibility of a Mertens transfer in January or the summer? What about the possibility of bringing in Soldado/Llorente?
Thanks,

03 Dec 2012 12:47:34
Eds when are Kelly and Borini due to return?

Keith YNWA {Ed052's Note - Kelly is most of the season, but maybe April if we are lucky. But he is not a quick healer. Borini will be back in a month or so}

I was under the impression that their financial problems were resolved?

03 Dec 2012 10:14:29
Hi Ed, over the last few weeks it has been players from Lyon, St Ettien, Chelsea, Arsenal and Celtic and then today out of the blue Fernando Aristeguieta gets mentioned? Do you know of anything in it?
In all honesty I hope it is someone we have not even thought of as none of the players mentioned really excite me.
At least the thought of Torres and Suarez comming raised the spirits a bit. {Ed052's Note - The name of Aristequita seems random, although he does seem to be of some interest to some teams. He plays in a poor league however, and his scoring record isn'[t top notch, but he's young}

Its not out of the blue they were thinking of buying him last summer. He has been improving and now on more European clubs radar. I say pick him up and maybe loan him out.

He would be at a European club already but suffered a bad injury last season and they have been tracking his progress back to fitness. With 12 goals in 13 matches he seems to be there.

03 Dec 2012 11:44:37
Right, i'm having an apprehensive groan n' moan. If Liverpool F.C and Rodgers do not buy someone of quality to play with Suarez, then what's the point of having Suarez!? A player who is constantly making things happen. No doubt he will be asking this question himself, soon enough.

I see him create 10's of chances every game, even when he's marked out or struggling to lose a pacey defender, he is still offering deft touches and through balls, he's a wizard with a football, he creates and makes things out of nothing, even when he is off the mark with his shooting, which is one of the reasons we love him so much, he's the biggest trier in football nutmegging players and getting away from faster players on the turn that he really has no right to on the seem of things to be trying.

He's one of the best i've seen in red, absolutely awesome and i'm scared we'll lose him before we partner him with a worthy player. We need to get quality next to him, a quality striker not a promising one, we have that in Borini, for all he's slated already (shame on those) and our own youth, also not a young and indecisive winger who is out of his natural position, for all he's working his little sweaty socks off, it doesn't have to be a famous name, i'm not asking for that, just a striker who can finish and can ship about 15-20 goals in the League.

If it's an ''unknown'' then fair play, what a find! But it's to the point now, not even halfway through the season, with a busy December looming and we've only got 2 strikers and one's injured until mid Jan and the other is banned for our next game and is carrying the team.

It's not fair on the team, the coaches, the kit man, the tea lady and us, the fans, paying or not. I'll always support this club, that's is unquestionable and i have defended many a player and performance on here but with the threadbare strikers at the club, it does begin to get so frustrating and this comment, if nothing else is born out of that. Silly really when nothing can be done until January.

Good post...suarez is a genius for me...
the thru ball to henderson against spurs..
and the best long diagonal ball to sterling against southampton from the throw line..was just shear class..
he is by far the best in past 3 seasons for us..
he never had a price tag problem on his shoulder..
coz...quality is by birth...it simple cant be created one day...
people say downing, henderson, and caroll had the heafty price tag on them..
rubbish..suarez too was a heavy price..he has settled and started taking responsibility...
we need 2 signings..striker a must...and we should give some competion to sterling..
the lad thinks that he is irreplacble...

Have to say this is a pretty fair post. I think that although most of us are backing the manager we have been a long way from competeing at the very top for a long time now. 1 or maybe even 2 really exciting signings could really lift the place ( and anfield has needed that recently ) and help us kick on over the next 2 seasons to have a real go.
At some point we are going to have to bring in real top quality players.

Dealing with injuries is part of the challenge of a campaign.

Yes - we have been a striker short all season.

But that problem will only last four more weeks.

03 Dec 2012 11:35:19
Would anybody still want kuyt, bellamy, aquilini, aurelio or carrol in our squad this year?
I know a few people where miffed we let them go and I agree it left our squad completely threadbare, we might be even a few places higher up in the table.
But look at it this way, would those players be the difference between a top 4 finish or not? I think we might finish a few places higher than we otherwise might do, but not top 4. To me finishing 5th or 15th makes no difference because I care little for the Europa cup anyway.
None of those players had a future here, they were all at the end of their usefulness to Liverpool either through age or tactical. So we could of either used them for a year to gain a few extra pointless places in the league (or not) or got rid, saved a fortune in wages (probably enough by the end of the year to pay a largish transfer fee for someone) and played the youth to see how good they actually are.
One reason I am enjoying this season so much is because so many players have an actual future at Liverpool. Less players are picking up huge wages for no contribution.
Forget our league position or even where we finish this year, it's not important, look at where we are heading.
FSG and Rodgers are running the club fantastically to put us in the best possible footing for the future. He might make a few tactical errors and FSG might have had a few PR disasters but what club or manager doesn't?
The important stuff is being done and we will look back in 10 years and appreciate what happened in these few years and be thankful.

Please feel free to comment an add bits if you want.

Bellamy/Kuyt/Maxi - YES
Aquilani/Carroll - no

Why would you have Bellamy kuyt and maxi? They all only had one season of usefulness and would of kept suso and sterling out of the team, why would you have kept them 3 players and put back sterling and susos progress a whole year?

MIKEY

Bellammy and kuyt any day...maxi ys as a useful squad player...
maxi is scorer..he just gets into the box everytime..
kuyt bellammy and maxi had the best partnership with suarez...

Kuyt only had one season of usefulness ?
bazaar ... Sterling have a very long way to go before he is as useful to us as Kuyt were (was?) for 4 or five seasons .. he scored very important goals and worked tirelessly every time he was on. I think he may have contributed this season also , but the decision to sell him was a good one.
Roy

That would have been my selection too. Kuyt, Bellers, Maxi for one more season. Why? Cos those three can work with Saurez and actually all three of them can bury a decent chance, unlike the team at the moment. We managed to throw away the ones who actually did the job, and keep some of them that can't. Anyway, it's done now, so lets think to the future, but hell, we need a striker without a doubt. The youths are great but an older head who can actually score is vital if we are to get anywhere this season.
ND

Don't think you could play tika take footy with Kuyt in ya team though, he had one of the worst touches i have ever seen, akin to Djimi Traore's and Ryan Babels - we sold Kuyt at the right time. Maxi poached goals but he was too old and slow and was absent for long periods of games which you cannot afford at the top level. Bellamy is the only player I would have kept - for his professionalism, love of the club and his quality - our squad is threadbare, he could've filled in as a striker right now if he was still available, big mistake allowing him to leave in my opinion.

Bellamy wanted to go I think.
Not sure we had any chance of keeping him, he would have defiantly kept sterling or suso on the bench though and that's a bad thing.
Someone said bring in an experienced striker that will do a job an I agree, this new striker will limit the chances sterling and suso get but my point is if your going to hold them back or bench them it may as well be for sturridge or wallcott for example than kuyt, Bellamy or maxi.

MIKEY {Ed052's Note - Bellers wanted to go back home. That why he went. Kuyt wanted game time and maxi wanted to go back home. They would have all moved who ever the manager was. Their departures cannot be blamed on BR}

The one who said kuyt has the worst touches..
have u seen andy caroll play??
i am sure its not football...its handball and headball...
if u watch him..u will never ever say kuyt has the worst touch...
caroll is pure genius in his first touch...

The difference between 5th and 15th is around £10m in prize money. {Ed052's Note - Its more than that I think now}

To keep those three would have been ten million per year i wages. Rip off

It appears that some fans and editors are under the impression that Liverpool FC / FSG have already obtained planning permission to redevelop anfield.

The truth is the designs aren't complete nor have they been submitted to the council. Liverpool FC, announced on the 14th October 2012 - via Ian Ayre it is their intention to seek planning permission to do so.

Once the plans have been submitted they will be subject to a public hearing - when we the fans will see the submitted plans. If the club are granted permission the council can then seek to raise compulsory perchace orders on the surrounding homes.

However the residents of these homes are allowed their right to reply and can appeal any CPO's. As with the Liverpool Gateway (improvements to the main access road to the city) where 1 women single handedly delayed the process 4 years.

Therefore as things stand we simply have a decision of intent and possibly a design in progress but nothing concrete has happen as yet.

With planning permission on 2 grounds sitting in the filling cabinets at anfield were work could have been started 2 years ago.

If long term expansion was FSG's aim the stadium should have been first priority. {Ed001's Note - no one has said it has been obtained. Perhaps you are missing the point or are unable to understand, but that is not what has been said at all. Quite the opposite. I have repeatedly said that difficulty in obtaining these things was what held it all up. They looked at all aspects because of failure to get immediate planning permission, the council were obstructive at best. They wanted the club to build a new ground, possibly as a ground share with Everton, as part of their plans for redevelopment of the area. There was no way of getting planning permission 2 years ago, so you are quite simply wrong.}

I hate to say it but if we want to move forward. Yes we need a couple of strikers possibly right winger. But we need to replace Gerard as soon as possible, need to spend money on his replacement big boots to fill Tom ince isn't the answer. Isco, eriksen, ?

Shelvey?

In a couple of seasons i can see Shelvey being that guy.

I too feel Shelvey can be that man. also playing the passing game or as they call it tiki taka, he has improved alot IMO. the one-touch passing and stuff, or it could be down to training with people like Suarez.

My 2 cents:

Rumours that Raheem not happy and may leave. If this is the case, I would let him go. Yes he will be a star, but giving in to a 17 year old would be ridiculous. He certainly deserves a raise, but needs to be realistic. If he is not happy, I would slap a 20 million price on him and see if he is really going anywhere.

Yeh met him go, then in 2 years time we can buy him back for 40 mil and probably injured! That's how good we are at doing business

These "claims" are certainly shifting some papers by the looks of things. He's not even able to sign a new contract yet.

03 Dec 2012 10:21:31
I loved what Brendan said after the game this weekend. The best thing is he can back up what he says, and he puts things into real perspective:

"The others at the top haven't got away from us, especially in 4th. There are only 7 points between us and 4th and the one thing for sure is that we are only going to get better - believe me, we will get better.

"I hope people can see now we're on the move. It's a steep climb for us but we are on the move forward and I would rather do that than be a flash in the pan, when you come in and then drop off, because you're back to square one then.

"The idea is to build a team here that has a method to it. We are trying to build an identity, so, in a few years, people can look at Liverpool and say: 'This is how they play. They pass the ball, they move the ball, they interchange and they all defend as one.'

"Until we get the exact profile of player in each position - as we saw with Lucas today - we will still be building towards that.

"With Lucas, you can see, all of a sudden, with the right profile player in the right position, it frees up the offensive threats, and I thought the rhythm and balance of the game was great."

---

This is everything that is right with football, the right mentality, the right tactical thinking, being open-minded and realistic about the future. Rodgers knows that Lucas will be so important in getting us into the Champions League. This is a lad who (he admitted recently) used to cry in the locker room after games under Rafa because he was struggling so hard. That's why I'll never write off Hendo until maybe the end of next season, and I think Rodgers was a bit harsh in putting him up for transfer this summer.

But as soon as he arrived at LFC, Rodgers recognised that a team built around Lucas at the core will make us the better team for the future. I don't care if Lucas has the off bad game, or makes a bad tackle, like Gerrard he's earned the right to be in that team. We are 7 points off the CL places, and this might sound a bit weird, but I'd rather be chasing the pack than leading it, as its so difficult to stay consistently on good form through December/January. Teams rarely stay on top form this time of year, and if we can beat West Ham with no Suarez, our confidence will go through the roof.

But the difference is this year, we are building towards a real future and not a hopeful short-term fix like last year. Of course 4th or higher is the aim, but if its not achieved this year then a fan like myself could not care less, as I've seen and heard enough to know that the club is definitely moving in the right direction. Performances have been great in my opinion, I thought we played great in the defeat to Spurs, but as Rodgers said until he gets the specific profile of player he's after it means we will slip up every now and then, and I think he's got it right there.

Not since the Roy Evans years have I seen such a clearly thought out future at Liverpool, his was built with the youngsters at the team's core, but just wasn't able to get the balance right with the senior players (in my opinion). It's easy to be positive after winning a game, but even if we had drew with Southampton I would be very optimistic. We can't expect the players to magically get better, but every now and again the individual quality of the team will shine through (like Agger this weekend).

And when Rodgers says 'believe me, we will get better', unlike under Hodgson, I have no doubt we will get better as the season goes. Win or lose against Udinese, it doesn't really matter to me, that is a tough game in Italy and the squad is very much learning still. I know that the future looks really bright and you never know if we can get some key transfers right soon, it may become a reality quicker than many people and pundits are expecting.
RC

He is very positive BR. and BR definitely has some sort of an aura, he is a very confident man too. he hasnt had the best of starts, but so far, to me atleast he is doing great with what he has in hand. and the team does get better over time in my eyes, i dont mind getting up there slowly then not getting up there at all.

Kaizer

Fantastic post RC - thats exactly how I think, it is def coming good and good too see BR building for the future and not just doing a Harry Redknapp!

Hi guys hope everyone good, looking at the table we only 7 points off 4th spot January window opening soon hoping to get couple of good players in get few wins we could be right up there, also wondering why BR ain't playing suso so much lately?

Lfc fan from Cardiff.

We're only 7 points behind because everyone else has been under achieving. Once they all start performing, we'll end up more than 7 points behind believe me.

We are actually 7 points of 3rd not 4th which sounds a bit better
James

Leave out the points..real test next weekend..without suarez..if we wins..then suerly we are in the right direction...lucas is a big boost..
but who will score to win??
the second top scorer for liverpool this season is own goal..can u believe that??

Whoever scores doesnt matter, as long as someone does n we win. Shelvey as the false 9 is really not a bad idea, he does know how to play.

Kaizer

To the poster who said that "everyone else has been under achieving", is it not possible that there are many who are also overachieving and that it is just a better balanced and even competition than it has been for years? Anyone can beat anyone and this is healthy for the competition.

Hi ed,

Any idea why suso suddenly disappeared from the starting 11? Was doing well then all of a sudden he's not even making bench. Is he injured?

Nevada {Ed001's Note - not as far as I am aware. I guess not being in contract negotiations for a long term contract has meant he has dropped down the pecking order. I am sure he will get some more games in the future though, when others are struggling.}

Brendan prob pulled him out for a while we wouldnt want some old bitter man saying we r burning him out would we.Tommy Irish Red

When he has not started he has been on the bench. I posted a few days ago that I think that he is being rested and will return to the side soon in order to give some much-needed rest to Sterling (if he is still with us)!
Ben Terug

Spot on Ed, glad I'm not the only one thats noticed Sterling is using the contract negotiations to his advantage, and making sure he gets played.
He may be playing well but there are others who were to, and some tactical changes up front might have helped.

Well she is from St Helens....

Not at all i just think thats the best we can get at this moment come summer if we get a a high position things mite change but im been realistic we mite get top 4 a champions league position but its more likely we will end up in the euro cup again at least for 1 more season

becca

Butland has been found out a lot this season, not good enough at the moment, also he doesn't want to warm a bench according to his own quotes.

Walcott, i think is one of the over rated players in the England set up, if his demands are anywhere near £100k a week, we'll be better off staying away, i think Oxlade-Chamberlain is much much better as a player, winger, central or as a second striker, outstanding talent, Wenger likes to be the begrudgingly seller, £15 million'ish and i think we'd be well in, also he's a Liverpool fan for what it's worth.

I like hooper but i think we need a striker above that quality , i'd like Hooper to be a super sub though, he'd be handy at that i think.

I'm happy for Tom Ince to come back, next time loan youth, instead of selling them for sweet F.A (less than £60,000 i think we sold him for), shameful, i'd rather we fully examined a player for a few seasons, with a loan to a lower league club to find out fully, but then players can bloom late, still £6 million is steep, but he's the right age and has a bit of quality. £4 million would be much better and maybe Ibe for the rest of the year on loan, i don't know?

Well I will just comment on two -
I don't want to get up anyone's nose but looking good in Scottish football doesn't necessarily mean you will be good enough for the top end of the premier league

The other point - if you let a lad go because of attitude problems or unrealistic demands (from him or his father) what has changed to bring him back?

Let's be honest, every team outside the top two (and they've had their moments) are capable of dropping points and continue to do so.

Third / fourth place is very much possible at this moment in time, so rather than be negative, let's get behind BR. The teams playing good stuff, it's a matter of time.

Marshy

We will not get 4th place, we've just managed to beat Southampton 1-0 at home, we get 3 points and suddenly people forget how bad things are right now.

I think if Rodgers scraps Europa then we'll be bloody lucky.

No chance ! Your`e 11th for a reason ! fact

Much love

Exactly, also my thinking is we are only 2 points behind arsenal with them consistently in the top 4 if we can keep pace and over take them would be great also they play west brom next so someone's dropping points. Get behind the lads! YNWA

Hi Much - are you related to Courtney or are you just the Miller's son? Either way this post makes more sense than you do!!

@ Square Tomato, mate we've got West Ham away, next. They've just beat Chelsea 3-1 at home.

Not the Brom but the Ham, buddy. :)

Hope I'm wrong but get the impression FSG are dragging their feet in regards to redevelopment of anfield until they see if UEFA implement the Financial Fair Play rules. If they don't kick the likes of city, PSG and Anzi out of European competitions. Expect the "For Sale" sign to go back up at anfield. {Ed002's Note - Nothing can be done until planning permission is agreed.}

And the Council are the only body with the authority to instigate Compulsory Purchase Orders on any properties which may be stopping progress. A time consuming process which has to be completed if we are to get a free run at extending Anfield.
Midsred {Ed001's Note - I am fed up of telling the whiners that it is not FSG holding up the stadium! If it was up to them, the first thing done would have been the stadium.}

Ed02 I agree nothing can be done until planning permission can be agreed although it has taken FSG 2 years to decide there going to apply for it. Dispite making it clear that was their intention days after taking over. {Ed001's Note - no it did not, they were being blocked and so couldn't move, due to planning permissions etc, forward. They finally got their way, now they have to fight through all the red tape.}

I agree with eds anything legal is slow.tommy Irish Red

Okay ed02, if that is the deal with Carroll, then you have to say thats a great bit of business by the club.
West ham. i do not see them going down with how theyve started the season, plus i believe there to be at least 3, alot worser teams than them, saints, qpr, reading, villa and norwich.

So safe to say, we can afford a 20m spending spree in january, as we will make that back in the summer.

Unless carroll wants to get cocky, and decline west hams contract, i cant even begin the imagine the hate he would get upon his return. Br doesnt want him, 90% of fans dont want him. just hope he doesnt ruin his career by staying here, where hes not wanted.

Cheers :)
Benny baller {Ed002's Note - I think you are aiming this at the wrong Editor.}

What do you mean hate? The guy did nothing wrong towards our club, if anything he has been badly treated by Rodgers. If he is not happy at West Ham and the wants to go to Newcastle ( which could be very likely) then we have a problem.

90% of the people on here may not want him but a lot of the fans would have him back. Did nothing wrong.

If we were to get 3 players in January, here's the 3 we seem most likely to get:

Sturridge - our new striker
Ince - strong rumours of a return, looks likely
Rose - rumours emerging as we only have one natural left back, and he's playing on the wing

Huntelaar won't happen, he wants CL
Wacott - I can't see leaving in january
Bent - could happen, but as an alternative to Sturridge.

Reina
Johnson Skrtel Agger Rose
Gerrard Lucas Allen
Sterling Sturridge Suarez

Jones, Enrique, Carragher, Sahin, Shelvey, Ince, Borini

Suso, Assaidi, Henderson, Yesil, Morgan, Wisdom, Gulacsi, Coates, Flanagan, Robinson

*Kelly will be back in the 1st team when fit
*I expect Cole and Downing to leave

Wouldn't be overly excited, but I'd be happy. I think this team is more than capable of a top 6 finish and could be built upon in the summer with a new defender, possibly a new GK, a midfielder and possibly another forward.

The only thing I agree with is the targets that you've listed. Sturridge, Walcott, hunterlaar, bent are players that we are looking at for January. I do not see us purchasing 3 players. I genuinely believe 2 players would be stretching it. I agree that sturridge looks the most likely but if we do purchase him he would never take Suarez position in the CF role. He will most likely take the RW role. Other than that I can't really say anyone else is likely so we will have to wait and see. Danny rose is on loan at Sunderland so it is t possible to get him in jan and plus spurs will want him back for their first team no doubt. Even if we did purchase him Enrique is our first team left back end off (we also have Robinson who looks very promising).

I think Robinson would be an excellent understudy for the left flank, i don't think he'll ever be more ready for first team football than he is now.

He gets forward well and has pace and a good engine, that's a basic requirement to playing the modern day fullback position.

I think Wisdom has done a very good job there, but he is a very strong centre back, much like Martin Kelly once was, who i think needs to move back to that position for injury reasons, but we are almost spoilt with Agger and Skrtel's ever presence in the back line, Thank you Benitez.

I really hope we don't sign Sturridge!

Eds please post this.... would people stop believeing the rumours about sterling.... the papers are making the storys up to put pressure on him! why would he push liverpool for 50 grand a week knowin that if he leaves he still isnt going to get 50 grand a week anywhere else. and add all this to the fact that he cant sign any deal until saturday just goes to show that its all paper talk so wise up!

^ But there's no smoke without fire!

I have no idea how true any of it is however to say there is no smoke without fire when you are referring to the Brittish press is nieve at best. They lie and make up stuff all the time.

Ed001, I was just wondering what's your thoughts on Marc Pelosi and how do you rate him as a player? {Ed001's Note - I do like him, not sure if he will make it with us though, he has too much ahead of him on the left. He is not as good at left back as Robinson, not as good on the wing as Sterling. He might well have to leave to make his way in the game, but I do expect him to have a decent career.}

Is his best position central midfield, eds? {Ed001's Note - I think it is, but his versatility is a plus, means he should have a good chance of getting into a team and then staying there.}

03 Dec 2012 08:45:20
Possibly a central midfielder? I've never watched him play to be honest, but I recently saw a report comparing him to Gareth Barry

AZ {Ed001's Note - yes, sorry I meant to say that in my first post, that central midfield looks his best bet.}

Of all the young players I have seen coming through the U-21's and youth setup (ie Suso, Sterling, Robinson, Wisdom, etc) the Portuguese lad Texeira looks the best.
Ibe also looks at least as good as Sterling at his age and bigger build.
Sinclair looks a natural goal scorer.

Reina
Johnson
Skrtel
Agger
Lucas
Gerrard
Sterling
Suarez
Downing

Thats atleast 9 of our players linked with moves to teams competing in the champions league whom are seen as improvements to their squads

Says alot about the quality in our team, only 4 or 5 quality players away from competing at the top

Shak Attack

4 or 5 players ispretty much half a bleeding team

I don't know where to begin with that list should i just go with Downing? joker you are.

To the last poster, please tell me which one of these players havent been linked to a chanpions league team?

RE: downing has been linked with arsenal and arsene wenger was out biddrd by us for him

No jokes here unless u have an unusual sense of humour

Shak Attack

Okay Shak, there are a lot of weak teams in the Champions League, a team from Cyprus got through to the quater finals against Barcelona a few years back, that team would of had all our players if money was no problem or a club like F.C Basel, if they had the resources would take them all as well.

So the ''Champions League'' is illusionary as teams from across a varied scale of footballing quality are entered.

Hey eds n reds. Hearing a lot of rumours liverpool are in for West Brom's Shane Long? I like the player but I don't think he's good enough and not what we need right now

Shane long is a hard working forward player dispite his height is good in the air. him and suarez imo would torture defences remember this lad grew up playing hurling hard as nails just like suarez.Tommy Irish Red

Eds i just got tickets for the hammers game so my question is who the hell r we gonna play up front?

Yersil, Morgan or Pacheco at least must make the bench for me with either Gerrard or Jonjo starting {Ed001's Note - I expect Shelvey will get the nod myself.}

Shevley is no good at hitting the target, we should play SG, it's pathetic that a club who are expected to be in the top 4 cannot afford to have more than 2 strikers.

FSG are a waste of time, they should sell up to the fans and keep to a story they know.

Morgan needs top class experience, I'd give him the nod and see how he does, I thought his movement and workrate was spot on in a difficult game against Anzhi - he is worth taking a chance on, lets face it there isn't exactly a glut of players ahead of him at the moment.

Agree with another poster as well - Shelveys finishing isn't good enough to warrant starting him up front.
