Lot of people want us to give the kids a chance. . No dought we have some talented kids but over the past 10 years that's all they have been. .we seem to win it all at youth level but they never seem to progress to the first team. .You could say it's because of bad managers buying foreign journeymen instead of bringing through youth or you can be honest and say "They just aren't good enough" We haven't brought anyone through since Carra, Gerrard, Fowler, Owen, The fact is if they were good enough they would get in the team. .We need to look at the academy before trying to blame managers it's just a kop out. . If you think you know any player that would be good enough for the highest level just think why aren't the wengers of this world looking. no we farm them out to lower divisions. .

Why don't we get Andy Carrol. He looks strong, can run off 4 players. Turns nothing into something.

we really need him here at liverpool. I can't see anyone else in europe who would do a better job.

Andy Carrol looks just like younger darron Ferginson

Not a big fan of Mr Comolli but Mr Hodgson can't be trusted to make a cup of tea and i suppose his appointment shows that NESV are thinking about player recruitment although we're all still unaware of exactly how its going to work i.e will Mr Comolli be solely responsible for player identification and acquisition or will the manager (whoever that may be) have the final say on players he wants signed. Its all still abit too up in the air for me. Personally i'd like to see Paco Ayestaran return in place of Sammy Lee along with the obvious deposing of Mr Hodgson although as for his replacement
i'm still torn. I know we'll all keep the faith no matter what. We are Liverpool.

Hi everyone
having just seen chelsea stroll against spartak, & how easy it was for them, i have to say as much as i love our beloved club i think its just a matter of by how many goals they beat us by & not if they beat us.roll on january & roll on a new attack minded manager.

Message to Blair: Stay off the wine gums lad and stop winding the s* *e up. Too many manure posts appearing on our site, this is for LFC fans , not a bleeding heart column.

Has Woy got a backbone? Now he's apologising for comments made about Rafa.FFS, what next from this man? If you feel strongly about something, express it, don't f* k about. When has old bacon face ever apologised publicly? Never. Perhaps NSV can throw in a spine with his severance payout.

03 Nov 2010 22:35:44

Sack roy hodgson and get kevin keegan. He'd get us going.

03 Nov 2010 22:04:40
Ed, do you think a lfc team of the 70's or 80's would have settled for 4 points from 9 in the uefa cup? Or even the European cup? Has it really come to this? How can anyone be backing hodgeson i mean really. I love my club, but we can't have a coach with a fulham, wigan, stoke, everton etc mentality leading our team.
Red bl00ded a.k.a newcastle "lover" {ed's note - I don't think a team of the 90s would have settled for it either.}

03 Nov 2010 21:59:01

I'm sorry, but if fans are started to resign themselves to the fact that we'll be stuck with Woy (the worst LFC manager since Souness - but at least Souness would try to win a game instead of trying not lose) then we might as well hang ourselves now and ask the Premier League to relegate us for crimes against football. At least then we'll have decent players. If Woy stays in charge till next season our will probably consist of Almunia, Carlton Cole, some Scandinavian lad Woy worked with in the 90's and people like Konchesky and Poulsen.

If NESV want to succeed, even if they're American, they will know to sack Roy before the morale goes completely and we start permanently praising players like Kyrgiakos and Maxi.

Rant over

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Maybe we should oust NESV and get this bloke to run the club, clearly he knows a lot about the current situation that NESV haven't noticed yet ;-)

Torres has lost it, sell him to chelsea whilst we have the chance.

Just read on here somewhere that Benitez loved the city, the club and the fans. And using the word LEGEND when referring to him is an insult to Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and King Kenny.

The man played us, the money paying supporters for mugs, he loved his big house in Caldy, his wife and kids loved the Wirral - but he totally disrespected us - the money paying fans with his team selection and his negative tactics, especially since Paco ( the brains and tactician behind Benitez ) left.

And I certainly don't think Roy is an improvement - why didn't the board go for someone who is an advocate of entertaining football. If you can get the players Benitez bought playing like that of course, which I doubt.

2 goals in 10 league games is effective? {ed's note - with the service he has had? That is effective.}

Come on Ed this is not effective. he isn't playing well, its not just the lack of service. {ed's note - no he isn't but he has no service to help him get back on track.}

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Torres has twice as many Premier League assists than any other LFC player .

Clearly Torres is doing something right .

LFC's 4-3-3 rarely looks like working properly .

03 Nov 2010 21:44:10

Im not a defeatest im a realist and i seriously think we are setting ourselves up for dissapointment for january, over the past 3-4 transfer windows we have all expected big signings and maybe the next maradona or pele etc. ever since the year we brought in nando its been bad signing after bad signing with the few exceptions which to be fair i can't think of. we've let players go which we shouldnt have and we do seem to make a lot more mistakes in the transfer market than our so called rivals up the top end of the table, (fair enough city make mistakes but whats it matter to them)

now i seriously think the best players we can hope for are such as Carlton Cole who is struggling at the worst team in the league. Personally i would take SWP, i beleive he's got the pace we've dearly missed for a number of years, also i think we need a very good central midfielder/ attackin midfieler to let Stevie go into the other role which we all know he can do with ease. Someone with passing ability who isn't scared to make a mistake, along with the obvious striker we are missing.
but seriously do we think we can play 4-4-2? i don't think at the minute we have the imagination for it nevermind the class, BUT with the current owners promising money to sign players then with a couple of players who really want to play for Liverpool and want to make a difference then we can start to climb the league

i think if we want to compete we've got to get some real talent and lose the current crop of underacheivers, but i guess that goes without saying

03 Nov 2010 21:42:54

I really have heard everything now :- the person who wrote this has to be the NEW breed of Liverpool supporter, someone who doesn't know our history since Shanks, and certainly not seen a real Liverpool side play.

""""" 2 points away from being a proven legend and on here he gets slated to death. at least when he was manager we went into every game thinking we could win """"
Benitez never sent a team out to win - he sent his teams out not to lose, and god forbid anyone would consider him to be a legend.

A real Liverpool manager would not have put Lucas on instead of Keane when we needed a goal against Hull, a real Liverpool manager would not blame everyone for his own failings, and a Liverpool manager who understood out history would not have bought all the s* te he bought, with the money he was given - and boy was he given a lot of money to waste.

03 Nov 2010 21:37:46

Just finished watching a re-run of last nights Reserve game @ Sunderland on LFCtv (recorded it).
Although the weather was awful it was still obvious who the standout performers were. Ngoo is a handful up front. He's very tall, quick and quite skillful.
Ryan Amoo looks to show promise out wide and the Portugese lad Silva looked very tricky even in a game which could have been abandoned due to rain.
The goalie Bouzanis pulled off some excellent saves and didn't do himself any harm.
But the one player who stood out for me was Suso. I've heard quite a bit about this lad and he looks to be very close to the first team. In first-half weather which would have put the frighteners on North-Sea fishermen he managed to demonstrate a level of class the first-team is struggling to achieve. As a dead-ball specialist he was faultless and created both goals with excellent crosses.
It's just a thought but why not take a punt on Suso, Ngoo, Ngog and Amoo if only to confuse the commentators. David Pleat can't even pronounce the English names.
Seriously though, I'd love to see the likes of Pacheco, Shelvey and Kelly (all of who weren't playing last night) as well as Suso, Silva, Ngoo and Amoo being given more chances. Obviously not v Chelsea but tomorrow night would be a good chance to see them play at a more pressured level than they are used to.
Given that I don't give a stuff about the Mickey Mouse Europa Also-Rans League I would like to see a starting line-up tomorrow of ;

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .Brad Jones. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

. Carragher. . . . . Wilson. . .Kelly. . . . . .Aurelio. . .

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Poulsen. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Amoo. . . . . . Shelvey. . . . . Suso. . . .Jovanovic.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Babel. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Subs; Bouzanis, Konchesky, Kyrgiakos, Spearing,
Pacheco, Gerrard, Ngoo

At first glance the above looks too radical but there is quite a lot of experience in there aswell as youth.
Maybe though, a 4-4-2 or even a 4-4-1-1 with Pacheco instead of Suso just behind Babel.

On the transfer front I would love to invest our future around Jack Wilkshere, Gareth Bale, Connor Wickham, Jonjo Shelvey and young Sterling. Two of these are already in the bag and Bale has apparently slagged us off on you-tube. Wickham is a gamble at the price Ipswich would demand and Wilkshere won't leave Arsenal for us at the moment.
It's obvious we have to find our own talent and develop it. Not only for economic reasons but because it's the correct way and the way most appreciated by the fans. I watch non-league and lower league footie and there is loads of talent out there just waiting for the chance to be developed. Loads of Scousers by the way!
Some exceptionally talented players lose their way through boredom, drink or injury. Or just because they're overlooked because of the influx of foreign "talent".
England is a hot-bed of footballing talent but instead of nurturing it we reject it for Brazilian, Spanish, French and Italian "Wonderkids" who, let's face it, just aren't coming through. The exceptions are the likes of Fabregas and Ronaldo but they were both really highly thought of before they came here. They were "stolen"! The players we "stole" like Suso and Pacheco should be used to compliment up and coming British talent like Shelvey, Kelly, Wilson, Sterling etc.
In an ideal world I would employ Rafael Benitez as our talent scout. When he gets the push from Inter (January at the latest) he will be able to divide his time between counting his pay-off money from his last 2-3 jobs and scouting for us. Not on a first-team basis as such but in an " I can research up-and-coming Spaniards as well as the next man" type of way.
Between them, Houllier and Benitez were an expensive lesson in exactly what we don't need managing this club.
At what point in our history did we decide to become like everyone else?
At the moment, if this forum is anything to go by, we should buy every Thomas, Rickard et Harrie in Europe.
I've always maintained that we should keep our sense of "home". . . . . .not being xenophobic but we are losing loads and loads of local talent because our policy is to look to abroad before what is in front of our eyes.
Why spend a fortune getting a work permit for Alfonso Nunez De Machareno when Jimmy Snotbox of Toxteth is, on balance, a lot better? And available for work Monday!
Lucas Leiva or Kevin Nolan?
Even. . Poulsen or Spearing? Tough one as they're both crap !
Officianados of the game would instantly recognise that with Torres and Gerrard not firing anymore, Carra completely past it and with Roy Hodgson's tactics and negative interviews we have absolutely nothing to lose between now and the transfer window. We could pick the likes of Poulsen, Lucas, Maxi, N'Gog and Konchesky (just think about that for a minute compared with Chelsea's choices) or we could get rid of the dead-wood, buy class and use the really good youngsters better and more often.

I spend 18 hours a day pondering about the team. I don't get paid for it but I love Liverpool with all my heart so I don't mind. I read absolutely everything
related to LFC on these forums, on news sites and on the whole internet. I work on the railways and have computer-access all day long so can keep in touch at home or work. I wouldn't travel by train when I'm on duty if I were you!
During the Summer I actually cancelled a trip to N.Scotland because they didn't have the internet or any way of finding out about the takeover saga.
When NESV
When Stadtler and Waldorf were de-throned I got so excited I nearly got arrested. Although I am banned from Church for the next 2 years.

Ed, do you think that we could push Torres out to the left in a 4-3-3 system. .
At some point I would like to see 4 3 3 and play. Jovanovic Torres and Kuyt as the three left cent right as ive wrote. But you can only try these tactics in a comfortable position. SMF

could have them rotate between these positions at will, they're all different types of players and the change would give defenders a nightmare

Mind you, Torres has 4 assists to his name. A bit of a miracle worker if you ask me; considering his supply line includes Poulsen and a depressed Gerrard.

03 Nov 2010 20:58:40

1st job camollie must do is Sell gerrard and torres and get players that want to play for our club. Young hungry players who don't moan and try and pick the team.

03 Nov 2010 20:54:49

Do you think ola toivonen would be good partner/ 2nd choice striker. Good target man, very good in the air and only 22. Can finish well with his feet too. Available for about 11 million. ED any thoughts. Are there 3 ed's? {ed's note - he does look decent, I would like to see a lot more of him before I bought him myself though. There are 5 or 6 editors mate.}

Was it not under rafa all these become liverpools future. shelvey and wilson was rafa's doing they were sorted well before woy came to lfc. and ppl say that youth system has no future at liverpool. as far as iv seen there isa few talented youngsters coming through. did we not win kids fa cup. well know fact teams that win fa brings kids through the ranks.rafa always said he wanted to start bringing kids through the system then he gets sack what was it 18-24 months after getting full control of kirby. joke joke joke. bill and ben got there way just before they went getting rafa out. and we all had somethin to say when they tried to get rid and get that german nuget in. they got him out by not supporting him enough to turn fans against him.

03 Nov 2010 20:22:13

Ed, do you think that we could push Torres out to the left in a 4-3-3 system, his speed will be a threat, and he can cut in at will, that's how most of his goals are scored. Probably won't work right now, but if we sign a World class striker, then it should be considered {ed's note - I think Torres could play any role across the front but why move him from the centre when he is so effective there?}

2 goals in 10 league games is effective? {ed's note - with the service he has had? That is effective.}

03 Nov 2010 20:19:56

As for your negitivity regarding Rafa, I personally believe that we were far better off with Rafa than the current situation, to achieve what he did (Champions League win, FA Cup win, Champions league Final, League Cup Final, 4 Top 4 finishes) with only a £25 million NET spend is heroic! He fought our fight with the owners and truely loved the club! The real supporters that can see the priest on top of the mountain of sugar will understand and agree! YNWA!

Could not agree more, if it wasnt for Rafa we would as fans never have known what was going on behind the scenes with the owners, they would still be here. . He brought it to everyones attention. He deserves legend status i think from our fans forever.

i couldnt have put it better myself, i think under rafa and these new owners we would be all dreaming of the title now, not sitting wollowing in the last cpl months since start of the season hoping and praying it to get better, the man loved the club/ fans and the city. anyone who has slagged the man off should be ashamed of themselves. yes i will be irst to say he had a bad bad bad season last year. and it was just a cpl bad decions that lost us the league the season before (resting gerrard alonso in mid season for west ham fulham) if he had good cover wich he wanted in january sale ie barry but owners wouldn't give him the extra 2 million villa wanted. it was all about him wanting to rest players and having no cover that brought him down at liverpool, the 2 clowns would not back him up and if they did he would have brought us the league. can anyone argue with me on that one? ?? ? 2 points away from being a proven ledgend and on here he gets slated to death. at least when he was manager we went into every game thinking we could win this today even the barc's real's inters' and now we area laughing stock. thgat sir fella from down rd was rubbing his hands when we got rid of rafa. his job is all the more easier now to take our championship record

Im here again, the poster of the channel 5 cup, Im still sitting in marco pierre whites in the kings road and i'm still chelsea and loaded, one thing i forgot to say is my boyfriend is an Everton fan and that's why i feel the need to attack you guys, we are both sick and tired of living in your shadow, NEVER winning the biggest contest in football really hurts and is one of the biggest reasons that i am so weak and have to go on your forums and attack you, i apoligise because jealousy is dreadful thing to live with, anyway back to my champers then i'm of to G.A.Y to party my ass off.

03 Nov 2010 20:03:15

Why why why have we brought a director of football in? is it because nesv don't trust roy with signings etc? if so why is he still here then? i don't like the idea of someone buying players that dosent coach the team, just look at the dennis wise kevin keegan thing at newcastle. Damien comolli and jol had the same issue at tottenham. when jol left he said comolli signed players he didn't want and most of the players he signed underperformed he's also the person who brought ramos in to work with them players and nearly got them relagated, both of them got sacked. If hes that good at spoting talent why did arsenal let him go?
if Comolli's coming in now to buy players and dumber can't get them playing right, the new manager won't have a chance to buy the players he wants that's why i think its a bad idea. should of just apointed a top class manager.

03 Nov 2010 18:23:46

I have just watched the Press Coference with Hodgson on LFC Now on LFCTV. Totally negative and downcast. No Positivity at all. If I was a Liverpool player I would be totally downcast. I thought having new owners was about a new regime and new positive era, where a manager takes us forward, an end to managerial tantrums and professional sporting administration.

03 Nov 2010 18:05:54

To the guy that said aqua is better than raul, cole, lucas,
i agree he is better than lucas, but yu can't compare him to cole and meireles because he is a diferent type of player, although i would like to see him back playing under a manager who appreciates his talent, neither rafa or roy gave him a chance.

and for everybody who says soto is great or watever, hes not, , he had 2 good games and now hes god all of a sudden.
however he would be good to hav in the squad to play a 'chris samba role' . wen we are chasing a game he could be thrown up tops to mix it up in the last ten mins as he is very good at heading the ball. .

what u think ed?

jay b {ed's note - I would rather get a striker who can head the ball than have a defender on the bench to throw on in a crisis.}

May i ask what job pays so well that you don't need Primary School spelling? I have an illiterate niece who is about at your level and she could do with some careers advice prior to taking the 11 plus.

By the way, was there another mistake in the word "sitting" in your little story, as that would explain a lot.

Love this site and the comedians who masquerade as REAL Liverpool fans - better known as the " In RAFA we trust " brigade.

We are Liverpool - we rightly expect to be challenging for the big honours - a lot of people might have agreed with Benitez being a good coach and winner, until you think of the Hull game at home 2 seasons ago, EPL their for the taking - need a winner desperately, 1 sub left - let me think Keane or Lucas, I know let's throw Lucas on - a proven EPL golascorer ( NOT ), or Keane a proven EPL goalscorer - no brainer really - and Benitez had sod all to do with Istanbul - remember he started with Harry Kewell, and don't talk about the FA Cup - remember Burnley ( and others ) - arrogant t* t he is, the one thing he was good at was losing the psychological battle with Demento and making excuses and blaming everyone else, nothing was ever his fault.

And don't talk about net spend - the owners gave him money, and he wasted most of it.

What worries me about so many posts on here, is that it comes across that people are just hoping we get beat so that Hodgson gets the sack, this is not the Liverpool way, yes he wasn't my first choice and it does worry me about his negative comments and lack of idea to change a game other than if he's forced to i.e. injury, however let's get behind the team we've won two league games back to back now and I for one hope we just continue winning, the atmosphere was better against Blackburn and amazing at Bolton especially when Maxi popped in to win a game with 4 mins to go, lets get back to supporting the team rather than booing Woy at half time which is just scandalous.

I don't think any of us want to see our team loss nicklfc. But i think it's just the mindset we are in now because of Hodgson. Do you expect us to play great football and stuff Chelski 3-0 on Sunday?

Your spot on about the atmosphere at both games. Which for me it is the fans who are providing the encouragement our players need to win and not that useless a* hole Hodgson. Who sits on the bench and looks like a man who hasn't got a clue what he's doing to be fair to Hodgson he dosn't.

Me personally do not enjoy watching us play under Hodgson and honestly don't expect many victories. I actually bet on Blackpool to beat us at 7/ 1 not because i wanted us to get beat but because i knew we would get beat.

All because of that idiot Hodgson!

In answer to the guy who asked whether Bale is just fast, I have to disagree. He scores goals and seems to have good technique too. Unfortuantely, Babel is "just fast" :(

So with the new fella who's spotting talent then what's Kenny going to do? Thought he was making transfer recommendations up to now?

Don't get me wrong it's a good step; NESV are setting us up well for the new rules coming in 2012 regarding spending vs. earning. It's no conincidence JWH referenced his admiration to the Arse who've been employing this for a few years. . expect them to do v.well in yurop in a couple of years.

Comolli in focus
Worked under Arsene Wenger at Monaco and Grampus Eight
Brought Kolo Toure and Jeremie Aliadiere to Arsenal
Played a role in Arsenal signing Thierry Henry, Robert Pires and Robin van Persie
After seven seasons as Arsenal's European scout became technical director at St Etienne last season

03 Nov 2010 16:18:55

Ed just got back from work and heard of the comolli deal, i for one am quite excited by this as he has identified some great young talent in his previous roles, i don't think he should get to much stick over the ramos thing as ramos at the time was one of the most sort after manangers around in europe. just wondered what you thought having a director of football, i no its the done thing abroad but generally in this country managers like full control of targets.
{Editor's note - I still think RH will have a say in who is brought in but he will have more advise now}

03 Nov 2010 16:16:14

So comolli spots the young new talent, buys them in, then they can keep pacheco, amoo, ayala, etc etc etc company at melwood. With transfer responsibility away from RH he doesn't seem to have the safety of avoiding the inevitable before January. . .in wetrospect woy would wun weally wapid wetreat back to another mid table team as he ain't the man to re energise our beloved club. I believe talks are on going regards his position, the mists are clearing. . FR shall replace RH. . although my heart is set on the return of the king it shall not happen. . Saturdays numbers will be 4, 15, 16, 22, 28 & 42. . lancelot. .set of balls 5

Talk about wingers swp just isn't good enough, iv always liked elia, blistering pace and power something liverpool lack. another suggestion would be to take a gamble and buy 1 or 2 young players from south america there are so many "the next ronaldo's out there" for some reason we just don't attract the layers like united chelsea do, nilma no chance, sanchez no chance. think liverpool with the backing they have from NESV need to UP their game!

03 Nov 2010 16:03:25

With the way things are changing at Liverpool, I can't see Roy Hodgson there long. Not unless he makes a string of say 9 wins and make us in contention again. I think a hungry attacking young manager is needed.
My choices are
1) Jose mourinho
2) Quique Sanchez Flores
3) Pep Guardiola
4) Di Matteo
5) Juan Carlos Garrido

03 Nov 2010 16:02:26

Just a question to fans really.

Does anyone think Hodgson looks ill. When he was at Fulham he looked a picture of health but seeing him on the bench Sunday against Bolton he didn't look so good.

I hope he is the right man to turn the club around and I do think he should be given til at least Xmas.

Damien Comolli made alot of good player recommendations for Arsenal and Spurs prior to leaving for France . There are many players in the premiership Comolli was responsible for identifying , players that would improve the LFC squad . He clearly has a talent that NESV respect .

He is a good appointment for LFC .

LFC will benefit from someone like that in the modern game .

Clearly NESV are initiating quite an exciting player recruitment and scouting drive that could force the Manager to field attacking , skillful and creative players .

The entertainment level of LFC has just risen today .

Thoughts Ed?
{Editor's note - He is good at finding talents}

03 Nov 2010 16:00:33
SWP to Liverpool no chance never goin to happen he's a fossile, do your homework Mr. Henrys plan is to spend his bucks on players up to the age of 25, anything over 25 will more likely be freebies or bargain buys. SWP is none of the mentioned he's just plain rubbish

03 Nov 2010 15:59:56

Just watched a ru-run of yesterdays Revista de La Liga, and they talked about Manuel Pellegrini. Guillem Balague (everyone's favourite Spanish reporter. .) said we had talks with Manuel in London - but said no because he was foreign! Pellegrini is now expected to take over at Malaga, who sacked their manager over the weekend.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Balague hates Liverpool. It is his job as Rafa's chief propagandist, friend and publicist to talk down Liverpool FC, its players, Board and new owners now and in the future to protect Rafa's 'wonderful' legacy at Liverpool. He says things rafa can't say. Expect more on the coming weeks. Balague will probably blame Liverpool if Rafa gets the sack at Inter. Wait and see.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

What drivel! Guillem Balague studied in Liverpool and is a massive Liverpool fan long before Rafa was our manager, he has no such motive.

YNWA!

03 Nov 2010 15:57:15

I would like to controversially suggest that we do not sack Roy Hodgson just yet, or get excited about the prospect of him leaving. Over the summer and in the last few weeks the club was victim to much disruption, things seem to be settling down a bit and I think it's likely that results will get a bit better. I know it seems like we should just be buying world class players galore - which is always going to be difficult without the prospect of champions league football - but after the last year or so the weakness in our squad have become very obvious and I don't think Hodgson is doing a terrible job at all, and the last thing the club needs as more massive disruption, media attention and pressure, like that of the type created by sacking a proven premier league and European veteran like Roy Hodgson after only a few months.

Ed I see you want Roy to fall on his sword too, is this because you feel he wasn't up for the job, or are you just disappointed that we are not one of the top 4 clubs in the league anymore and would just like to be back there now? I think I could handle a couple of seasons of building and falling into hodgson's mould.
{Editor's note - Different Ed here but I think he needs some time to build his team}

03 Nov 2010 15:56:09

We've been hearing strong rumors of us being linked with affelay. I'm not saying hes not a good playerr as it is yet to be determined (he a good prospect which is different) im just saying we need an proper winger.

Affelay is an attacking midfielder/ winger and what we need is a winger/ nothing else. someone who just stays wide and looks to cross and pass and cuts in occasionally so hence my point of view we don't need affelay we need and wingman . thoughts ed?
{Editor's note - He can play out wide and is a good player}

03 Nov 2010 15:53:59
To the ed . is it possible that john henry is trying 2 make hodgson quite or leave so they havent got 2 pay him off
{Editor's note - I doubt it}

03 Nov 2010 15:53:08

Just thinking about everyone posting players we should buy. surely it would be better if in jan we bought players who already have EPL experience so they don't have to spend the rest of the season trying to not only adjust to a new country but a new league its not like summer when they get a pre season together to get used to the team. so bearing this in mind just a couple of thoughts matt jarvis of wolves wouldn't cost an earth from and already shown he can worry most defences in the EPL, steven taylor newcastle i don't personally feel it is our priority to get more CB but if we did he is only 23 and hasnt signed a new contract yet, and kevin davies strong target man and can score i know he prob only has a couple more seasons but he wouldn't cost much from bolton and it would give us much needed firepower to then add to this properly in the summer,
what you think ed?
REDhunty
{Editor's note - Atleast with players with premiership experience it will not take them as long to settle in}

The rumours about Zidane will amount to nothing. Consider the regime he was used to at Real, where there was no formal training programme and managers like Luxemburgo couldn't influence the wider group. Most of the play on the field was intuitive and there was very little of the work ethic or the detailing which a recovering team like Liverpool badly need. The best manager for Liverpool is a "Raffa" without the potential for sporadic, ill-considered outbursts and with a sound scouting network together with good advice on transfers. In the mean time, we'll have to make do with Woy.

Damien Comolli has come in for alot of stick since he left Spurs regarding his purchases that were prioritised over the managers choices . . during Martin Jol's time and Juande Ramos's time , yet since Redknapp took over those have turned their Spurs careers around and 'Arry has even resigned a percentage of Comolli's players that were signed during Jol's time and released during Ramos's time .

Maybe the guy just got a bad press in the tabloid's due to the money spent , money that now appears pretty well spent .

He might be a good appointment for LFC .

Frank Arnesen at chelsea has in only a few years brought players to their first team squad due to good scouting and contacts .

Maybe LFC need someone like that in the modern game .

A short 10 points on recent events (and one or two not LFC, but maybe of interest . .)

1. How low has Roy Hodgson's stock now fallen after Rafa's latest vitriolic attack? It's all well and good be a respected manager, but he has been pilloried too much recently to maintain his reputation intact.
2. John Henry's assertion that we need to build from within is admirable and much applauded from me. What concerns me more is his suggestion that the debts may not be totally written off or loaded onto the club. We need more clarification here before any panic.
3. There seemed to be a sort of energy, commitment and fire about Maxi Rodriguez the other night - almost a real enthusiasm. Is this the man Roy wanted to offload a few weeks back?
4. The next Chief Executive will be a completely different kettle of fish than anything we have seen in the PL so far. I suspect he may be a high flier from either baseball, autosport or business - and maybe not American but European. Watch this as Roy/ his successor will need to be on their toes to keep up with him.
5. Kyriagkos is often seen as a journeyman, a player just to fill in; sorry, he seems a powerful and commited defender to me and a star recently.
6. We have dallied at the fringes of the relegation zone and now with two wins we are talking up the team as potential European place winners! Long way to go and more time for Roy to waver left.
7. The FA has lost ALL credibility over the refereeing fiasco BUT Redknapp's threats of withdrawing from interviews was hollow. Ferguson ignores the FA and PL rules on this and NOBODY dares do a thing. Same with Rio Ferdinand - after all, he is a Mna U player and HAS EVERY RIGHT to inlfuence the decisions in a game.
8. Football is so corrupt and lacks credibility that flops in management are sought with gusto and vigour! George Burley has been abysmal everywhere he has been as a manager. He is poor and inept, yet Crystal Palace gave him a job! Same with Strachan and Mowbray. They deserve what they get.
9. Aaron lennon - he's 23 and puts lines in his hair as a 14 year old would do. No wonder Redknapp refers to any player under 40 as "the boy!" Then again, the rapper Nelly is 37 and wears clothes my 16 year old would think childish.
10. A bit more on point #8 but in the media: why is David Pleet (say it like it is!) and Mark Bright still abusing our senses and being paid to tell us what we tell our friends as we watch the game with them? It's not rocket science, but they wrap it up as though it is and pay those clowns £0000s per game to say it!

To every one who wants rafa back remember this. . . . . he is like the ex girlfriend that you dumped, you think about her and talk yourself in to thinking things wernt that bad, you think you want her back, so you get back together. then after a week you realised why you dumped her! 6 months ago everyone was calling for rafa to go. but because results havent been great you start to talk yourself in to thinking rafa was a god, but he was the one who put this squad together, he was the one who upset our best player (alonso) to go all out for barry. he was the one who sold all or forwards and signed all the carp. we don't rafa back believe me. do you agree ed? {ed's note - I agree mate, he is not the answer.}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
A GOOD POST AT 19.41 BEFORE KICK OFF LAST NIGHT AND EVEN MORE RELEVANT AT 22.00. HE HAS LOST MANY OF THE INTER PLAYERS ALREADY. I HAVE SOME FOND MEMORIES OF RAFA AT LIVERPOOL BUT WE NEED TO MOVE ON. RAFA'S TANTRUMS IN HIS FINAL 2 YEARS AT LIVERPOOL WERE AN EMBARRASMENT.

We did that regularly during the Houllier and Benitez years beating the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan, Roma, PSV, Marseilles, Porto, Arsenal and Chelsea and I don't remember such a fuss in the group stages of the Champions league.

Ed what do you think of roy's pacheco "plan" {ed's note - seems a bit pointless to me, why not just play him behind Torres in a free role, rather than tying him down to a wing position. This is why England will never win a World Cup, they are too structured and tactical, there is no allowance for the best players to just go out and play.}

To Bob Laidlaw

Regarding KK back. emotionally i would love it, we would at least get back to playing football. If roy was to go I can see a case for KK taking over in the short term, and to be honest that wouldn't really damage his legend status in the long term.
I am never quite convinced about this theory that he has been out of the game for so long. roy has supposedly been "in" the game and look where that is taking us.
Lets suppose that NESV dispense with roy. the timing is out a bit for the usual cast of managerial candidates to take over. pellegrini probably going to malaga and the arab money, hiddink not yet but possible if KK takes over short term. Rijkaard another i wouldn't mind seeing at anfield, forget gala his glory days were with barca and henk tate

Maybe even go for a young manager. with KK in the background. The point is that KK has so much to offer and he just isn't being utilised. .his status is assured whatever he does.

Just like to say if any body wants to buy lucas they will have to pay more than stokes 4 mil they offered i rate him a lot more than 4 mil even though i don't rate hi, that much but 4 mil is i to an international even though i get a chuckle when i think of him playing for brazil

03 Nov 2010 12:24:53

I think all of us would love to have kenny back in charge but as the ed has said would we really want him to put his rep on the line having not managed for so long.maybe its just a case of hearts ruling heads kenny is a legend but legends are not invincible an if he was to come back an not do all what we think he can his status as a legend would take a hit kenny is the past. and what a glorious past but we need the new kenny or shankly to move us forward a young manager with enthusiasm and drive someone hungry to win who isn't frightened to impose there own ideas and changes.

I am so annoyed with our so called scouting system. When Glen Johnson left Chavski he was available at a snip of the price we paid as he was not established in club nor country. I wished for us to sign him then due to his potential , speed, etc
Not so long ago the repeat situation happened with Bale not playing at SPurs , this kid was availabel to buy if you believed in his potential! Again we failed to step in.
We could have had these 2 fullbacs for less than half the fee we paid for one! !
Annoying {ed's note - Bale was not available to buy, he was available for loan and he would never join us anyway.}

In reply to chris1 post
mate i entirely agree with you i can't ever remember seein a liverpool team with less fight or drive to win.
its like hes sucked the life out of them .and people can use the excuse that it wasnt an easy start to the season with the owner situation but surely now that its all sorted they should be playing with freedom and actually look like theyre enjoying wearing the shirt.
i can't actually say apart from the first game of the season i have looked forward to watching a single game this season with roy in charge its just ultra negative long ball football lets just hope and pray NESV keep good to there word and listen to the fans because 99.9% of us want that useless prat gone.

03 Nov 2010 10:35:08I think Reis is a better player than Toivenen for PSV.He Has been excellent this season, and he is getting is act together. He is only on a one year contract for his misdemeanors. I really like this lad, he as huge potential.A NESV type signing.Have you seen him Ed, what do you think. {ed's note - I have heard of him, but not seen anything other than youtube vids of him.}

funny how nesv havent contributed any funds for players yet, or have even bought a footballer before but some people seem to know a lot about the kind of targets nesv are after. please enough of the 'fits nesv's player target' quotes, as you just don't know what they are. henry has also came out and said that instead of any major signings, they will be overhaulling the youth academy bringing more youngsters through into 1st team football"

I'm sorry, but there is little point criticising another person's interpretation of what they believe a NESV type signing would be when you yourself have twisted Henry's words to your own view. He never said there would be no big signings or that they would be solely focussed on the youth set-up, that was how the papers, whose opinions in this case are no more or less valid than most posters on here, chose to spin it. Henry merely stated that they'd have to be smart with what they spend and any purchases had to make financial sense i.e. avoid old player with no resale value chewing up large amounts of the wage bill.

Why do we continualy try to mess young players around pacheo plays for spain more a free role coming from the left so why are we trying to mess with him by putting him on the right don't understand if he as more understanding of the game on the left and coming inside then leave him to develop there

what have we got on the left hand side? ?

let them develop where they are best

this carp about want to try in different places to get better you wouldn't put torres in midfield would you? ?

young players need to master one position

We are only 5 points away from CL football granted but lets look at the other teams that are also 5 points or less from CL football and then think about how many of them teams we would expect to get results off under ultra negative roy .
problem is NESV have come in and are cleaning up the board and youth setup but what about the piece of sh*t that is still left from the H&G era by this i mean our wonderful clueless manager lets just hope that they get round to cleaning this up sooner than later

03 Nov 2010 10:55:06
Well. .to be honest i am sick and tired of whinging about Roy. I have this awful sinking feeling that we are going to have to put up with the man for quite some considerable time.
Have read his "quotes" re the europa league, 4 pts from 9, roy you just having a laugh now. this is not a strong group we are in for gods sake.

A few posters have stated that it would just cause too much unrest if he was to go. well if i may take the opposite view i think it will cause too much unrest to leave him in place. The players look drained, they are playing like they don't know what they are doing, i have lost count on how many players now are looking to pass sideways or back rather than forward, and this has to directly stem from Roys tactical direction.
This group of players were not that bad, contrary to what roy thinks, with a couple of good additions we should have been playing much more attractive football. That seems impossible under roys tutelage.

If a lone striker is having a rough time alone, why can't we revert to 442. it seemed to serve us pretty well in the past. This obsession with a "holding midfielder". .the inference being that in this modern game its impossible to play without one, lacks creedance.

There is something really quite worrying that has happened to this team, the players on paper are in the main really good players, yet they lack cohesion. this can only be from the tactics, directions, training, they are employing. Is this only me. have i lost the plot completly. have i become so enraged at roy that i can't see the reality.

I don't think that's the case, but its always possible. i really can't remember looking ahead to the game at the weekend with such a feeling of trepidation. Whilst no one has a god given right to win every match what i am depressed about is that that feeling of the possibility of a win is disapearing at a rapid rate of knots.

Roy. please. .just let the players loose and let them play!

03 Nov 2010 10:53:00

So Roy is an admirer of Dani Pacheo? According to John Mcmahon anyway. See's him filling the wide roles! This man has to be heard to be believed! Why does this continually happen? He plays brilliantly in a central withdrawn role behind a striker, is lauded during euros, player of tournament. So That tool who prepourts to be our manager sees on the wings. Winds me up, go now Roy PLEASE! Is this harsh ed? i don't think so, ruining careers, i'd rather he went to another club than have hodgson ruin another young player. Dark times.

YNWA {ed's note - it is harsh when you realise that Pacheco played on the left for Spain during the Euros. But it is a totally different system from the one he is stuck in for us, he was given a lot of freedom for Spain, he won't get that under Roy in case he leaves space for an attacker to exploit!}

Roy is keen on pach. He is a belter little player who just needs time on big stage to develop. And Roy is keen on him. Make the kid feel like a bit part boy why don't ye roy. The kid left barca for us. He was best player in the under 19 in the summer and Roy says he's keen on him. Many many managers would luv the kid on there books. If your going to manage Liverpool Roy you better start learning how to manage big talent, if Roy is only keen on this kid I sertainly carnt wait for the kids he has dreams and faith in, messi's, kaka's and kk in the making. ( well now i know why Liverpool appointed him to run our club)

03 Nov 2010 10:45:36
Watching the match last Sunday against Bolton was like watching paint dry. These tactics are not what LFC are all about. Under Rafa, yes we played a defensive counter attacking style, but at least we had some penetration. At the moment, regardless of a very lucky late 1-0 win, we play the worst drivel I have ever seen a Liverpool team play. My partner is an Everton fan, and at the moment is lapping it all up. Roy, you're a nice bloke, but please see sense and realise what you are doing to this great club and go, Please.

03 Nov 2010 10:35:44

5 points away from 4th yes but can you see Liverpool getting 4th come may? The are litually fighting like dogs even that is compliment dogs fighting know what ther doing. So I'll say girls fighting in sexy and un watchable no tactics they have nothing ed. Soto is best player at min I'd say. Someone who was to be on side line for the odd game through injuries, has Roy ever managed a Stevie g or a Torres, in that I mean big big players.

03 Nov 2010 10:25:24

I have also now read that roy is targetting 4 points out of 9 in the europa league.
is this man insane we are not fulham nor do we ever want to be. I can't believe i now read this.basically roy can't even deal with the simplest of managerial tasks.
1. he can't motivate the team
2. doesn't defend his players eg torres manure comments.
3. lacks passion at matches
4. looks completely void of ideas when things arent working
5. alienates players when they question his long ball
mentality(agger)
now as a fan for all my life any one of these is a sackable offense for a liverpool manager

03 Nov 2010 10:16:56

The best form ov defense is attack. Roy is playing defensive but look at goals against. Get him out. Under rafa we had hope. You could see what he was doing. Under Roy it looks like he says just go out and play. And hope we get to attack sometime and drag a point out of it. A point away from home and Roy is happy. Under rafa we hoped to win every game, or was I blinded by that much luv for my club that I couldn't see. And I blinded by the dislike and hatred for toys football that I carnt see what it REALLY happening out ther every match day? Each game that goes by am hating the way the lads looking drained, even Stevie g is giving up telling someone that there game or pass isn't good enough. You would see him talking to them. Not no more just watch him. And carra aswell you can see him not so encouraging to all the players the way he has done for ten yrs. Under Roy are we going to see another souness. Come in wipe the team out. And get average players in . Instead of improving with talented players

On the official website they have stories linking us with cassano and n'zogbia now both players are without doubt quality but both players have also been trouble at there clubs for one reason or another now bringing in players like this could be a very good bit of business if we had a manager with good man management skills which we don't have in roy. these types of players not only need a arm around the shoulder but they also need to be ruled with an iron rod otherwise it could be a complete an utter nightmare and make a horrific atmosphere in the dressing room. what do you think ed ?

Ed you seem to be a supporter of you can you tell what points you see he has in favor of staying a lfc manager? And do you think we have we have taken a step up from rafa? Plus if he was to go who would you like to replace him ed?

{Editor's Note: I don't think Roy Hodgson is the answer and I think it was a mistake appointing him (on Dalglish's recommendation as I understand it.) However, there was turmoil until a month ago with the ownership situation and since the new owners have come in results have been better although performances are poor. Changing manangers now is probably not going to help unless a long-term solution can be found - as it would simply create more unrest and then further unrest in the summer. I would use this season to consolidate and being only 5 or so points away from fourth means there is still hope of a Champions' League place.}

John henry has expressed his desire to win the league title, and there is a lot of work to do on and off the pitch to achieve his dream.
as a friend of mine pointed out, with roy as manager how will he do this?the man obviously does not share the amount of drive and passionate ambition or winning mentality that john henry has, so the only way to achieve his dream is to appoint a man who has the drive and ambition to steer us back to the top; to delegate john henry's ideas through the team, and get rid of the negative, over defensive, " as long as we don't lose" roy hodgson policy that is destroying our team.

John McMahon has revealed Roy Hodgson's first-team plan for starlet Dani Pacheco.

The Spanish ace is regarded as one of the most talented youngsters in Europe after rising to prominence in a withdrawn striking role.

However, this season he has been deployed more regularly on the right-side of midfield, a switch that McMahon feels can boost the No.12's claims for more first-team involvement.The boss (Roy Hodgson) is keen on him, " he told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"He sees Dani filling those wide roles, so when he plays for the reserves he occupies those positions and learns to adapt and play in them.

"It's good for his development to learn several roles and it will only benefit him, especially if he's required to do a job for the first-team."

my question to this is why?? ?? ?? ? ?

a player should be used where they are best or am i missing something ed what do you think? ?

amoo plays rightside doesn't he? ?/ ?

03 Nov 2010 09:27:32

Ed- You say we will never sign Sanchez. This sounds a bit defeatist. I realise Sanchez wants to play for MU but nothing is impossible.

Financially we could sell KUYT, BABEL, AGGER NGOG-LUCAS etc, etc +
25m from the board and buy.
1. Eden Hazard -19m
2 A.Sanchez- 20m
3.S Aguero-30m
4. S.Defour=12m

All young quality players- Or buy similar players

{Editor's Note: It is not defeatest about Sanchez - it will never happen. Also there is no £25M from the board and we will not be spending £80M on players. Aguero is looking for wages of £200k per week - it simply is not going to happen.}

03 Nov 2010 09:23:18

Just read in the paper hodgson has been told we go to develop more youth than spending big money in the transfer window i think this is excellent news, it means we stop wasting millions on players on the basis of a good world cup or of just a good under 21 tournament, this has happend at arsenal for years and at spurs lately, nesv are goin to run liverpool like business we have got the accademy so everything is in place we gota sign the best youth in britain and europe, who wishes benitez would have paid the money for bale and not wasted it on babbel and one season riera or gonzalez, after last night performance BALE has gota be best left winger in europe and we could of had him, these young players do turn in to diamonds and they are out there if our scouts look hard enough

03 Nov 2010 07:45:19
Im not sure where to start but i can see why roy is playin defensively its to not loose the game of football, you have to have a balance betweeen attack and defence. this is not working that great as we have lost and drawn loads. its not as if our defence is rock solid and our attack is some what lacking, if nando does not have a good game we look as if we don't have an attack. soto seems to be are biggest attacking weapon which to me speaks volumes. at the mo i would almost like kevin keegan to come in at least there would be some forward intent then. don't mind loosing as long as we attack and play in the oppositons half. it seems an eternity ago we were putting four past real, arsenal, utd.

Agree entirely. Can I recommend Paul Tomkins book "Dynasty" as a good interesting read? He ranks all our managers since Shankly rating the squads they inherited and then left? The scoring system is pretty good I felt and comes out with some interesting indicators.

Who's fault is it alonso left? some say rafa, but i think its only because H and G promised funds for barry and rick the dik parry bought robbie keane!
rafa was not perfect but when he says roy is "clueless" he is absolutely right

New Liverpool owner John Henry has pledged a renewed focus on developing the youth system at Anfield.

Henry was speaking to Liverpool fans yesterday during a UK visit and underlined his determination for the club to succeed, saying that he wakes up each day "thinking about what we can do to improve our chances of winning a championship."

He emphasized the need to develop young players at the club and believes that Liverpool are lagging behind. Steven Gerrard is perhaps the last example of a local player coming through the ranks at Anfield, while local rivals Everton have a number of promising young players at their disposal.

According to the Daily Mail, Henry said, "On the field we have to be smarter… Arsenal and Man U have depth that is young and capable. We do not. We have a lot of work to do there. A lot of work. And we will, but we have to be smart about it.

"We are here for the long term. Everything we do is for the long term. Our biggest responsibility is to bring in the right people to the club on and off the field."

Liverpool can nonetheless boast a number of promising young talents, including England under-19 internationals Andre Wisdom, Michael Ngoo and the even younger Raheem Sterling.
