Hey Eds just wondering the new boys such as Suarez and Carroll are finding life in liverpool. Are they settling in ? And getting on with other players in squad ? {Ed001's Note - apparently they are settling in very nicely, I am told Suarez is much easier to understand than Carroll!}

Thanks ed

You must be fo'in joe'in lad

Wonder what "I want a transfer" is in Uraguayan.

Ask Forlan

I wonder what Uraguayan is? I think they speak spanish there

Ed or anyone, do you think that football fans have changed in the past few years. Our league is getting as bad as the Italian League. I remember a time when Toffees and Reds, could sit together. I'm not blaming Moyes but it does seem to have got worse with us, since he took over.

Whats changed in your opinions? thanks.

Blair Mayne YNWA

It was more of they felt angry about the rodwell decision. there was nothing going on in the before the red card that was bad. you cant compare that to leagues like the italian turkish or argentinian leagues. there are riots and attacks and in some cases deaths when rivals meet in these leagues. you never want to see what happened at goodison but its much worse in other leagues.

GMN

I know it's not as bad as the Italian league GMN mate. But derbys have changed all across the land lately. Look what happened at the Spuds, Arsenal match. The Rangers and Celtic derby is getting way out of hand, even by their standards. Even if Rodwell had've been sent off, the hatred from some Toffees has exculated, in recent years. I can't remember the last time we had a Merseyside derby and both teams finished the game, with 11 men? The Birmingham derby, is probably the worse derby in England at the momment.

Fans have changed, just like football.

Blair Mayne YNWA

Ps. Just my opinion mate.

Actually Blair, last season both Merseyside derbies ended with 11 men on each team

Keith YNWA

Even though its true theres no need for the pop against the birmingham derby at the end. it has got worse over the last couple of years in most derbies around the country. its either fans have got worse or security at grounds have slacked off. i always remember fans shouting abuse and throwing things onto the pitch so maybe its the security that has dropped. i wouldnt be surprised if in the next few games involving liverpool and definitely everton to have extra security. i remember something similar happening last yr when blues beat villa in the carling cup and both fans were rioting on the pitch.

GMN

I was away for a year (in Parkhurst, solitray confinement) Keith mate and did not know that, cheers.

Blair Mayne YNWA

It wasn't a pop at the Birmingham derby GMN mate. It was a pop at all the derby's, i personally think the Birmingham one seems to be the worse in England, at the momment.

Blair Mayne YNWA

Blair you must have been away for 25 years if you think that the hatred between us and the sh1te has only happened since Moyes. It started mid eighties and accelerated after Heysel. It obviously eased with Hillsboro but kicked off again after that. There has always been fights and scuffles at derby games (both as bad as one another) they also wore "manc for a day" tee shirts in 1996 so just accept that we don't like eachother. Hope this explains it for you--finisher

I strongly dislike Utd, Everton and Rangers. But I strongly respect each of those teams aswell. Displays of hatred is just wrong! The rage and violence is not acceptable. Football without passionate rivallary is NOTHING. We enjoyed our glory days Utd are enjoying theirs and this should spur us on to greater hieghts.

Im Irish life long red married a girl from Tyrone and her family are staunch bitter toffees! But it makes the derby far better cos the stakes are massive for me!

So we should always remember although we dont like our rivals we are NOTHING WITHOUT THEM!

Save the hatred and neck vien popping for Cameron Clegg and Osbourne!

Everton's coin and bottle throwing is dam shamefull and an embarrassment to the beutifull game. Those responsable should be banned from every football game ever.
I was also desgusted at the way some fans reacted in front of tv view everytime a corner was taken. Ed should the club be fined?
(if carlsberg done bitter, then they'd probably sponsor Everton).
Anyway tough game against United next, should we win then the gap closses and confidence to challenge for the league will start.
Ed! What happened to all the Dalglish haters? There not moaning.

Everyon fans are just vile. This is what happens when a becomes jellious and bitter.
Goodison is falling apart, the boardroom and chairmen are gready and the manager has Never won anything. This year or next they'll be back to the early 90s by facing relegation battles.
No one wants to invest in them and players will start to leave.
Who would want to be a bluenose?

03 Oct 2011 19:58:41
i just want to say what a legend Jamie Carragher is and still going strong. For me one of Englands best defenders and as never really got the credit he deserves easily just as good as Ferdinand and Terry. And his performance in istanbul one of the best ever.

One thing carra as never had is pace but is and will be one of the best readers of the game. His role in the team is just as important as ever. Playing with sami as obviously helped him in his career. I do believe he as probably got another couple of seasons at Liverpool. I just hope Martin Kelly is the next Carra.

But for now we still dream of a team of Carraghers.

Mighty reds

How can anyone diasgree with that...unless they are a Manc or Bluenose?
Iggypop

Carragher is an inspiration to any young player coming through, a top class player in his time unfortunately not enough games at international level due to Terry / ferdinand partnership.... A fantastic professional who would make a top manager one day.... HERBIE(MUFC)
Hows that from a manc :-)

That's the most sensible thing you've said, on any site HERBIE mate. It makes a change from "Anderson is the next Bechenbaur" BS, well said mate.

Blair Mayne YNWA

Thank you HERBIE, one of the more reasonable mu fans , now clear off back to your own page lol..........lfc

I'm sorry to repeat what I have said before but Carra(gher) is one of the most over-rated players since the war. He may have the heart (but haven't we all?) but he has NEVER had the talent. I just cannot believe that so many fans are so blinkered when it comes to him. I do think that he will eventually be a good coach and I hope that it happens very quickly. We are still leaking goals and he is one of those responsible for this.
Dutchmal

Our defensive problems might not be Carragher, but Agger's consistent injury problems leading to chopping and changing at the back.

Jamie has been a rock for us in the past 10 years Dutchmal mate. Pepe got all the praise for winning his Golden Gloves awards. But any player/manager/fan will tell you, your nothing without a half decent defence, in front of you. Jamie has been there for us on many, many occasions.

But i do agree as much as i hate too say it, his time is coming to an end. When Jamie hangs the boots up, it will be a sad, sad day for all us, i hope.

Blair Mayne YNWA

Blair mate I have never said Anderson is the next Bechenbaur, you must have me mixed up with someone else.... Anyways I'm looking forward to a tasty match with you boys come the 15th, lets have some fun.... HERBIE(MUFC)

03 Oct 2011 19:53:07
Eds, have you heard anything that you can share about Agger's return date?

It was meant to be 4 weeks, but he's back in training already- that sounds very early for broken ribs, surely?

I'd love to see him back to face Utd instead of Skrtel, I'd but sooner he recovered 100%.
{Ed001's Note - that depends on what kind of training he is doing, strength and conditioning work can be done, but fitness would be difficult.}

03 Oct 2011 19:30:12
Hi Eds and Reds, just wandering what you thought about our next game against united. Do you think Gerrard will play? As you know Dalglish wants to ease him in and not rush him but on the other hand Man Utd is going to be a tough fixture and Gerrard has looked sharp when coming on. Your thoughts?

Ghandi Floss {Ed001's Note - sub again I reckon, but ready to bring him on earlier.}

Gerrad must start that match is after 2 weeks.

03 Oct 2011 17:38:51
I hope we play 4-3-3 against Utd as we do not want another mauling from one of the better 4-4-2 sides. The middle 3 are needed to re-control the game when not in possession. With Kelly, Enrique and Lucas all solid you can give Gerrard when in possession the licence to roam ahead and ghost into edge of area shooting positions.

Suarez is amazing at timing runs, finding space and cutting in from wide areas but so is Bellamy so their interchanges would cause Utd problems all day.

The question is can these players adapt to playing 4-3-3 effectively, I believe they can.

---------Reina-----------

Kelly-Carra-Skrtel-Enrique

--------Lucas------------

--Gerrard----Adam-------

Kuyt-------------Bellamy
--------Suarez----------

Subs: Doni, Flanno, Coates, Hendo, Maxi, Downing, Carroll

Bellamy on the right, Suarez on the left, Carroll upfront for me.

RenegadeRed

I'd like to see Henderson instead of adam in that line up ...... he offers more movement
LFC1

Reina
Kelly carra skrtel (COATES) enrique

Lucas
Gerrard Henderson

Kuyt Bellamy
Suarez

RedTurk

Henderson doesn't like to get off his feet to slide and challeng for the ball plus hasn't got the passing/shooting range adam has. i'd play kuyt just to mess with the defenders he's the one that got away for them. and i'd have aurelio on the bench just incase.

03 Oct 2011 17:15:45
I'd like to say congratulations to all Liverpool fans on your derby win. Although you have to admit that Everton did the best they could considering they were playing against an extra man. And when that extra man sent off Rodwell, it became almost impossible.

Matthew... ;)

Post of the day,We have a manc saying we had a extra man.
Errm! Webb has been yours for years.
Redeyedhector

I think it was nice of Man Utd to lend us one of there refs for a game i know you have a monopoly on dodgy refs and decisions were grateful u sent us one of your best for the game cheers still dont expect no favours back in 2 week

And a great addition Webb is to our team, UTD legend in the making.... HERBIE

PS: Redeye.... your comment could be classed as libel my friend..... SHHHH.

Sometimes a 10 man squad is harder to beat as the team try harder, defened better and concentrate more. That being said, Everton looked shakey at the back all season that includes 11men squad

Would still like to congratulate your team matthew. You were so unlucky on sat and didnt deserve to loose. Still wonder why you guys played in your traditional yellow & green strip?

Oh sweet irony....

Myk

We have beat everton when we were down to 10 men so stop crying the toffe's should have had 3 others sent off instead not to mention their coin and bottle throwing fans(typical everton losing their bottle)

Gerrard got sent off against the bitters in the 2006-7 season and we went on to win 3-1.

Gerrard wore his 08 jersey and got two yellows in like 20 minutes, good riddance to that jersey. I can still see Kewell's sweet left-footed shot curling into the side-netting at the far post late to seal it.

Assuming Agger will be fit for united's Clash, Kenny may use 5-3-2 or 5-4-1 formations which will restrict the advancement of Nani and Valencia. It will be exciting to see the Competition between Enrique and Nani or Valencia. And, hope kelly taught a lesson to young or Giggs. Lucas, Adam, Gerrard may form for 3 man Midfield and Suarez and Caroll play at the Top.
While Gerrard, Bellamy, Lucas and Suarez may for 4 man Midfield with Caroll at top.

Does'nt matter if agger starts or not or what formation you play, united will still win, simples.

Former Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti has hinted he would be interested in the Tottenham job if current incumbent Harry Redknapp succeeds Fabio Capello as England boss. He told La Repubblica: "In a few months Capello's job will go to an Englishman that will free up a spot at a club. Only big jobs interest me like Liverpool and Tottenham. But I'm not in a rush.

Very interesting.he is very good manager and a good human being.
Won double in first season at chelsea.he was winner as player and coach.
Will he fit at liverpool definately yes.
Good thing is it definatly shows reds are back on european map after hybernation of 2 years.

Red indian

Didn't one of his team's fail to win the CL final after being 3-0 up at half time against another team (mention no names)? Well maybe he's learnt a thing or two about football in his time.

Haha. Very well said!

Still has property in london, family love london and england so I would favour spurs, although reports were reported in poland and france and then detracted very quickly regarding guardiola taking charge at spurs following his final year at barca! Could mean an italian at liverpool and a spaniard at tottenham?

Hope to see him In Liverpool.

Sorry, why are people talking like we are looking for a new manager? Last time I looked (today) we had the mighty king kenny

Liverpool will always be in Man Uniteds shadow and SIR Alex Ferguson will put Kenny back in his place again as a joker. Anfield is a dump with no atmosphere

...you will always be in Barca's shadow.

Haha! To all those man utd posters who come on here trying to be funny all just look at the post above. This is a textbook post for those who want to write a humourous post on a banter page specifically, 'Sir' Alex who really needs some help.
I congratulate the obviously enlightened author of this post
RedRush

Your lot will only get to play Barca in a pre season friendly

since there's no truth in the statement I can only assume it's an emotional response to someone posting on the ManUtd pages - don't let them get to you lad!

No atmosphere did you see the norwich game or what says it all

''since there's no......'' You just copied that off the United page, Well done kid.

Well its nice to know your mums letting you have your hour on the computer before bed time maybe you should do something more constructive with your hour than coming on here like your homework night night little boy

Hi Im a nurse in a mental institution here in manchester,one of our really insane patients used the computer and sent a real silly post.we have him in a straight jacket now so he wont bother you again sorry.(godin)

Funny red noise always wanted to be like kenny an on like the scum we beat barca DeLipz

I want to ask Ed how this been posted? its Liverpool rumers not Mad Utd. {Ed002's Note - I suspect it was posted as jolly old banter.}

We would give barcelona a game unlike u men who have shamed the epl by getting beat in 2 finals

"liverpool will always be in man u's shadow"lol mate uve bin in are shadow for the past 25 years uve only jus caught up 2 us learn ur history moron!!

Have nothing but respect for man u as winning pl so often deserves so. just some silly man u fans want to compare themselves to r madrid (9ec) ac milan (7ec) this is crazy stuff. and remember its only a few silly fans. when a man u team dominates europe for a period of 5-7 years with 3-4 ec then i will be first to say well done. thats why some man u fans come on to our site to berate us, its because we dominated ec for nearly a decade including back to back. yes we have being on a downer for a long time but are now fighting back looking good now as well. most of my mates who man u fans are sick because man u have missed golden chance in europe again. barca to win next 2 ec.

Guarantee we could beat barca and real with the team we have now.

I think after his display against Everton Stewart Downing needs to be dropped to the bench. When I posted last week that he should be dropped I got slaughtered on this forum. Players should be picked on form and not ability. Craig Bellamy has shown what he can do- apart from that Stevie G and Lucas and Adam with Steve or Charlie playing in the hole- Carroll to come off the bench.

Kuyt got a hat-trick last year and his work rate is tailor-made for this type of game- stick with him.

Would love to actually see Bellamy start against United. United's defense can easily be broken, but we need Bellamy to play.

My team for United:

Reina

Kelly - Carra - Skrtel - Enrique

Gerrard - Lucas - Adam

Bellamy - Carroll - Suarez

Adam and Gerrard have enough quality to actually break through United's defense. Suarez and Bellamy have enough speed and quality to cut into the box and make goal scoring chances. Although there is no Kuyt, I honestly don't think he'll feature.

RenagdeRed

Personally I hope that Agger is fit for the Liverpool game. Just think that Rooney and Hernandez are to mobile for Carra and Skrtel

Team selection will depend alot on the players' condition when they return from the internationals

SingRed

Kenny will play 4-4-2

I will be surprised if Kenny changes the team from the weekend. I can see him play the same starting XI and using the same substitutions. I don't think the game will be too different from the Everton match.

LIVERPRES

So kuyt scored 3 and you want to play carroll, the guy with no co-ordination to break a defence?

kelly,,,,carra,,,,skrtel,,,,enrique
,,,,,lucas,,,,gerrard,,,,adam
kuyt,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,downing
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,suarez

doni, flano, coates, aurelio, henderson, bellamy, carroll

442 will get us an ass whipping like we did at spurs, we got out muscled

*Great result Saturday.
Massive, massive, massive 3 points.

*Not at all enamoured with team performance. Could and should have done better.
However, there are at least 10 of these games in a season. Good thing: winning whilst nowhere near your best.

*Special mentions for Enrique, Kelly and Lucas. Well played, boys!

*Great to see Luis and Andy getting on the scoresheet. Goal will likely have got the monkey off the big man's back and will do his confidence a wee bit of good.

*I suggested last week Downing and Adam start on the bench. I'm still of that view. Nothing I saw on Saturday has me inclined to alter that view.
Downing needs to up his game.
Adam should sort his fitness out and really knuckle down.

*I also suggested Hendersen start in central midfield.
In the few minutes he got there on Saturday, the lad unsurprisingly showed glimpses of his ability.
Central midfield is where he should be playing.

*What I make of Mr Atkinson 's performance is that he was congruent and consistent with all the refereeing mediocrity and shenanigans that's been prevalent since the start of the season.

I don't get all the moaning and whinging about the bloke, especially since nothing gets done no matter the complaints.
So what if Rodwell was unfairly sent off?

Is this player the first to be harshly done by a referee? Is Everton the first team to be harshly done by a referee?
Most importantly, is Jack Rodwell and Everton the last to be victims of incompetent and shambolic refereeing?
NO!

EVERY team, on the one hand, suffers from sh1t decisions by referees, and on the other, EVERY team benefits such decisions... over the course of the season.
Fate/fortune evens itself out.

So just QUIT the whinging now!
BOO HOO! Matthew Atkinson this, Howard Webb that, BOO HOO!
Just STOP IT! STOP IT!

Makes you all look two-faced hypocrites.

I've never bemoaned a refereeing decision on here.
In fact, I don't talk about referees. It's pointless, futile and advances the discussion nowhere.

For every merit there's a demerit, making the whole debate a high-sounded nothing wholly pointless.

09/10 against Stoke City, Anfield. Gerrard scored a perfectly legitimate free kick. He referee disallowed the goal. Game finished 0-0. I took it on the chin and got on with it.
Later on in the season, Birmingham, Anfield.
Ngog won an illegitimate penalty.
We scored to salvage a 2-all draw.
Was cool and life got on well.

11/12, Sunderland, Anfield. Richardson should've seen red, he didn't. I took it on the chin and got on with it.
01 October 2011, Goodison Park. Young Jack Rodwell is illegitimately sent off.
We beneficiaries of a demonstrably and terribly wrong decision.
Am cool, life goes on.

Such decisions are a nature of the bull.
Meat for us, poison for Everton.
Next week, meat for Everton and young Rodwell, poison for some other poor wretch.

I could tell of the same stories, thousand stories, for Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and all others.
We've ALL benefitted and suffered from shambolic refereeing.

So to see people like "Sydney", "Matthew" and the like coming on here ranting and whinging about how "unlucky" the Rodwell lad was, how Mr Atkinson "ruined" the game (in favour of Liverpool) is tedious, and sad, really... especially considering the number of times that Manchester United have got something out of the game thru poor refereeing decisions.
REALLY, WHAT'S THE POINT, HUH?

(Even more ludicrous, hypocritical, is hearing someone who supports a team which has Nani lambasting Suarez for being a cheat, or generally condemning cheating.)

My last word on this is that, dubious, bad refereeing decisions are part and parcel of this game.
On the one hand, we all benefit from them, and on the other, we all are victims of them.

You get harshly done by a ref, YOU TAKE IT ON THE CHIN AND GET ON WITH IT.
You benefit from abysmal refereeing, all are well and happy, life goes on as normal.

*Lastly, I can't wait for the next game at Anfield. Regardless of our form the past couple of matches, I fully expect us to trounce Manchester United. That game is all the more important in light of our win at Goodison.
We've been creating and subsequently squandering too many chances.

However, we won't miss forever. Sooner it's all gonna click and those goals will come.
We are due a high-score win.
I can't shake the feeling that October 15 will be the start of our goalfest.
We'll have to wait and see.

*rupertnorth'sxpertanalysis*
"I like tricks, I like to dazzle, I like to be able to score a goal with one leg bent round the other so that you smack the ball into the net with your wrong foot.

You are an idiot, plain and simple. Read your own post back, you bang on about 'getting on with it' over referreeing decisions and then talk about Utd getting 'loads of decisions from the referee'. You dont make sense just like most of your dillusional dribbling idiotic fans. I am glad that you are looking forward to 'spanking' us. I for one cannot wait to see Rooney and Chico up against Coates and Carragher, you lot are were you belong, outside the top four.

Hey eds, just wondering, why do you think Walker was picked over Kelly by Capello? Is Walker that good? Also can you do a comparison of Kelly and Walker? Thanks and sorry for the trouble

Keith YNWA {Ed002's Note - I am sorry, but I don't want to try and get in to comparing players.}

Walker is better than Kelly. Fullstop. {Ed001's Note - hahahahaha a career in comedy beckons....}

Because no one has heard of Kelly thats why.

According to qpr and villa he was the best right back they've had in years, both fans were begging their clubs to buy him, spurs fans are saying he has the potential to be regarded as englands greatest ever right back? Personally he's the best english right back at present

Walker? hes got pace but nothing else, i dont understand why everyone in the media is calling his goal a screamer, it was terrible goalkeeping by snotsky. kelly is one of the most natural defenders i have seen in my short lifetime, he has everything to his game, pace, his stamina levels are incredible, he has all the hallmarks of a top top class central defender yet he is such a perfect rb. disagree with me all you want but this is the capello who seems to be the most deluded and idiotic english manager ive seen in my lifetime, if kelly can remain injury free he will be a staple of the english diet for years to come

Ed is it fair to say that its between us and spurs for 4th place.

Plus it may be europa league that could play vital role in deciding this.
What you think?

Red indian {Ed002's Note - The season is not even a quarter of the way through and way to early to make such predictions with any accuracy.}

Spurs are very dangerous this season. Just look at their squad, its as good if not better than Liverpool.

Relax guys, spurs do have a good squad but they have only been in the champs league once so therefore I think we are favourites.

Whats harry going to do when all players fit as will have to drop some players who wont be happy

Spurs are very dangerous, but the Europa League Thursday/Sunday games will wear them down eventually. You also have to remember that around January time Rednapp will begin to be linked to the England job again, but this time - because he will be taking over after the Euros - the rumours will be real and the Spurs team moral will be shot to pieces. Also, if Modric is still there after January I'll eat my hat.

Po

Except Harry isn't playing anywhere near a full squad in the europa league so that won't affect there league form. There team is better than Liverpoopl man for man in nearly every position. Tottenham for top 4. Liverpool struggling for 6th...

Liverpool's squad is better than spurs it's a fact. Spurs have gelled after a season or 2 together once Liverpool has gelled we will beat spurs at anfield and finish 4th

As the campaign progresses & the smell of a European trophy lingers in the air, then Harry will put out stronger teams. Granted it might not have to be in the group stages, but possibly the knockout stages. Even a few weeks of having to field stronger squads twice a week can have a big impact.

The Irish Rover

To the person that predicted we,d finish 6 yea harry might not be fielding a full strengh team yet but the further they progress then he.l start playing his staring eleven for europa as well and there squad is no where near better than ours id rate it pretty equal but feel were stronger in a few positions we had a bad game against them but they could hardly beat a poor wigan and arsenal team they will get found out look what man city did to them we will finish in the top 4 might be close but it will be ours
giblet

C'mon our squad is sooooo bad Harry wanted every player we signed both in January and the summer, but they all realised they didnt want to be a splash in the pan. Good things come to those who wait. Take me back a couple of years and spuds couldnt even break top half. Ive always said a team with no history has no reason to look back or ahead for that matter.

Quigz23

Personally, I think its between us, chelsea and Spurs for 3rd and 4th. Unfortunately I can't see past Manchester for 1st and 2nd.

Ozone

If were been honest how many spurs players would get into our team i make it 4
jez

Adebayor, Bale, Modric, Parker, King (if fit), Walker. I make 5. {Ed001's Note - Adebayor? Not a chance. Bale? Crap, has two good games a season. Modric? Defo. Parker? Overrated average hoofer, only good for a small club. King? Best English centre back of recent years but never fit. Walker? Not yet good enough, only in for England due to Johnson's injury.}

Jez if we are being honest only three of ours would make their starting 11 & I'm being honest

Reina
Johnson---King-----Agger---Enrique
Lucas---Modric
Gerrard----Van Der Vaart----Bale
Suarez

I make that 4..

King, dawson, walker, modric, bale, parker & van der vaart easy as that.

Thanks ed 01 at the most i make it is 4 there central defenders modric maybe van der vart dont know why mancs are commenting on a question i was asking liverpool fans
jez {Ed001's Note - Modric and a fit King, definitely. Possibly Dawson, though I would prefer Agger personally. VDV is not as good as Gerrard so where would he get in? Their team is much of a muchness with ours really, but they have mostly played together for longer and so are playing as more of a team.}

Just give me Modric! He's the heartbeat! You can keep the rest! Thanks

The Irish Rover

Johnsons always injured, or crap.

03 Oct 2011 11:55:40
Anyone else thinking when Johnson returns we should try Johnson on the right wing- think he can do quiet well there + he will provide good cover for Kelly (Who should be our first choice RB). So Our both flanks will be much stronger (Enrique-Downing on the left and Kelly-Jonson on the right) & loads of supply for Big Andy & Luis.

My 1st XI when everyone is fit!
Formation-4-4-2.
Reina, Kelly, Carra, Agger, Enrique, Lucas, Stevie, Johnson, Downing, Carroll, Suarez.

Bench team:
Formation-4-3-2-1.
Doni, Flanno, Skrts, Coatez, Aurelio, Spearing, Adam, Henderson, Maxi, Kuyt, Bellamy.

Would appreciate if the Eds or someone can give me their thoughts on this!

YNWA Fellow Reds.

I agree mate i said exactly the same on saturday when debating who,s better at right back kelly or johnson i think kelly should play at right back and put johnson on the right wing he,s got pace to burn and has a excellent cross i dont know how he,d feel about i think he,d be ok as long as it wasn,t hurting his england carreer but who knows if it works out well that could be englands right side for years to come kelly rb johnson rw but mainly i think it could work for us we,d have plenty of pace don both flanks with enrique and downing on left kelly an johnson on right johnsons got quit a good shot on him aswell
giblet

Prior to his injury i would of agreed, since he's come back there just seems something wrong, his touch & distribution is not at the same previous high level, i'm hoping it's because he's still regaining fitness - but for me he is struggling at the mo!

When fully fit Johnson is better at RB than Kelly. Kelly is the local lad and the bubble will burst when he makes his first howler. What has he done to be so highly regarded? And Johnson to play RM instead of Kuyt? Then you lot will all cry about that....

Hey Brothers,

So what team would you guys pick for the united game?

Also, am I the one who thinks we struggled a little, littl, little bit againts 10 men?

Lastly, given uniteds poor performance over the weekend how would that impact the weekends game? surley we will be the side with more confidence.

TeeJay 96

Struggling against 10 men is not uncommon.

I would play:

Reina
Johnson Carra Agger Enrique
Kuyt Lucas Adam Downing
Gerrard
Suarez

We hardly struggled. Scored 2, missed pen, hit bar, Hit post, Suarez should score with a header early in the game, Carroll head diverted around the post & Gerrard shot delfected for a corner which looked to be heading for the top corner. Could have easily had 5!

The Irish Rover

Id put Carroll in to keep Vidic busy while Luis runs rings around them.

Just hope we get no injuries with the international break every time we seem to be getting momentum theres a stupid international game last time when we came back we got beat by stoke then spuds i dont no why they just cant have them in the space of a week and half instead of playing 3 weeks break playing 2 week break hopefully we,lget no injuries hopefully agger will be fit and stevie g will be fully match fit i think most of the team picks itself just depends on what formation we play i think carrol should start with saurez hopefully the goal will have filled him with some confidence
giblet

I would play reina
kelly coates agger enrique
johnson gerrard lucas dwoning
saurez
carroll
let andy batter them for 0 minutes see how its going then put bellamy on for last thity minutes while there tired
jtg

Andy for 0 minutes? Come give him a chance. And Bellamy for the last 30 minutes? Playing with 10 men for the first hour will be difficult. Let's give ourselves a chance!

Rafa's Purple Goatie

Reina
kelly coates skrtel enrique
downing lucas gerrard bellamy
saurez carrol

I want suarez to turn jones inside out and carrol to steam roll vidic...

Is agger not injured ??

TeeJay96

Suarez is a concern - Uruguay plays twice next week + all the travelling may take its toll. He may be too tired to play

SingRed

Reina
Kelly -Agger-Carra-Enrique
Downing-Lucas-Gerrard-Bellamy
Carroll-Suarez
-McMenemy

Bill Kenwright has announced that after the coin throwing at Goodison on Saturday he now has £7.50 to spend in the transfer window. He would like to thank all Everton fans for their contributions.

With that £7.50 he's going to try to buy Anderson from Man Utd. I wonder what he'll do with the change though...

Thats easy he'll buy Carrick with that much change -McMenemy

03 Oct 2011 11:16:34
totally agree that lucas had a very good game on saturday. I do still have reservations with adam tho. He's not mobile enough, i.ve not an issue with his lack of pace, he simply does not cover enough yards or show for the ball enough. His game raises when we play ten men as he improved against arsenal. I think bellamy also deserves a start as his movement is far more devastating for the opposition than carrolls aerial ability. Tiny rant over. Randy watson

Adam is class. I think he must play. Stevie to play on the right or behind Suarez.

I def agree Lucas is now decent not carp anymore, but I wouldn't go overboard. If you watched Parker for Spuds or Tiote for NUFC he can still add quite a bit to his game. His main achilles heel is his lack of pace which leads to the fouls around the box. I like the lad, but he is not the best DM in the prem.

Ok parker is experienced he is 30 sumfin and lucas is wat 24 and not even peaked he still has along way 2 go but compare parker when he was 24 to lucas now

Calling on Ed002,
In bygone days football clubs, as they were approaching the end of their financial year, used to take a punt and buy a player or two (what were called 'flyers') as a means of reducing gross profit and thereby reducing their tax bill.
Does this practice still go on ed ?
The Real KB {Ed002's Note - I assume you are talking about Corporation Tax. Very few clubs run at a profit - so no. If you take Liverpool as an example, the loss for this season will be very significant, so they will not be brining in any "flyers".}

LOL. Thanks very much ed002. I was forgetting there are very few profits made these days !
My head's stuck in the 70's. :-D
The Real KB

In terms of debt, who has the biggest ?

And when the new financial rules kick in will LFC be one of the most profitable if not the most profitable ?

TeeJay 96 {Ed002's Note - It is not possible to answer the first question as easily as perhaps you think. World-wide the larget cash "debt" is in the hands of Real Madrid in terms of monies owed. But the complexities of Manchester United's bond scheme, the financing of clubs such as Chelsea where the owner has nominally written off the loans but kept debt on his own accounts are clearly more difficult to explain in a few words. The financing on the basis of mass cash injection from the owners of clubs such as Anzhi, Malaga and PSG means that they, at least by appearance, are debt free, but much is down to interpretation. Liverpool have yet to publish this last year's accounts but those to July 2010 showed a £20M loss despite making £23M profit on player sales and being in the Champions League. So the accounts to this July will show the much reduced income from being in the Europa League plus the costs of changing management and another loss. The accounts for the year we are now in will show losses on players sales and the loss of income from Europe altogether. In the longer term, Liverpool will need, like all clubs, to become more financially self-sufficient and I think the owners are the folks to do that. If the club can get back in the Champions League next season then I am sure the owners will invest further next summer. Forget any thought of being the most profitable under the FFP rules, it really does not work that way.}

Under FFP rules, will the Chelsea owner still be able to write of loans & keep the debt to his own account?

The Irish Rover {Ed002's Note - It is already done, none of it is applied retrospectively. Also, any existing debt and payments made on that debt is excluded from the rules.}

Ed002 it seems to me the FFP rules look scary on paper and to the man on the street will look like something is finally being done about the money in football, but in reality it will be more or less business as usual. I see little evidence among big clubs or clubs with dept of belt tightening.

MIKEY {Ed002's Note - The rules will first be applied in three years time but the accounts considered from now. Any club spending high now - which many are - will likely be spending less in a couple of years time and will simply claim they are getting better at being fiscally responsible and get no more than a slap on the wrists. One or two clubs will simply ignore the rules and keep spending without regard to being excluded from the Champions League or other competition (Anzhi have already said they are not concerned). The major threat to the rules is a number of the major clubs walking away from UEFA and forming a pan-European league and taking the massive financial benefits that would bring (television and other rights). It would cause a significant split in football and would likely be the end of UEFA. I suspect that within ten years that this will happen in any case, with meetings being held by a number of the major players at least once a year - most recently at the end of August. However, folks do seem to be worrying way too much about the FFP rules right now, and money in general.}

Thanks for the detailed post ed002, the nightmare scenario of a European league you envisioned would be the final nail in the coffin for the decent working class game we all know and love.
It's a bit like milking the cash cow by tearing off it's udders.

MIKEY {Ed002's Note - You are correct in a way that it would be a significant change to what we have now - but it is, like it or not, the next natural progression. I fear the biggest impact would be driving many lower league clubs out of business because financially they will most probably be worse off. You will also likely see "smaller" (for want of a term) closely located clubs joining together to become one and ground sharing. I am not quite old enough to recall the working class game of the 1930's - but get set some significant changes, not immediately but I very much think it is on the cards.}

Just been reading of the legal appeal against the ruling of the Portsmouth pub landlady who was allowed to show PL football from a foreign site (ie not Sky or ESPN).
Do you foresee a time ed, in the not too distant future, when clubs will be able to agree their own broadcasting rights ?
The Real KB {Ed002's Note - Eventually it will happen - but as part of something much bigger when a pan-European league will be formed. There are discussions at least once each year and many of the usual suspects again looked at future options when they met at the end of August. Broadcast quality internet is an area that Arsenal have been looking at and an area where Tom Werner has some expertise - but still a little way off.}

Very interesting stuff ed002, thank you.
As I understood the motives for FFP, it was really UEFA's way of maintaining the status quo of the old G14. A way to prevent 'new kids on the block' (PSG, Man City etc) gaining power from rich owners.
But, as you suggest, maybe it is just a finger in the dam of what will happen - more power to the big European clubs and a breakaway league.
The Real KB {Ed002's Note - The FFP rules are nothing to do with G14. The FFP rules are not aimed at new clubs spending money, but at all clubs who wish to play in European competition spending money that they have not "earned" - subject to numerous caveats. I really don't see it impacting as much as folks think, and there are the background rumblings of unrest by a number of the more prominent clubs. And as was alluded to earlier, much of this surrounds what future opportunities are out there for the "elite". We will have to see.}

Ed001, i remember reading at the time am interview with Suarez saying he'd thought he'd be playing with Torres up top not long could've been the day he signed. But then added it wouldn't of made any difference to him joining us because he wanted to sign for Liverpool anyway. With them interviews he have he probably was asked did he think he be playing with Torres and he honestly answered yes. They make it sound like he's just come out with this one long quote trying to make it sounded like he was blagged when he said himself he didn't sign for Torres, but for Liverpool. Suarez is a ledgened already, on doubt about it. Because of Liverpool being the institution it is i get over players moving on pretty quick like Torres who i was ready to chop a thumb off to ease the pain,(joke, it woulda been a finger) but no over it when i'd woken up the next morning. If Suarez ever went ( not tempting fate. Really would find it hard to deal with for a long time. What a player and character to have in our team. Said to my mate last night who's a Utd fan when watching the game about when Suarez gets the ball he really does make you sit up to see whats gonna happen next, a genius of the highest order he agreed 100% .When Rooney gets it i said can you say the same about him honestly and he went no. Might be a small point but Suarez is in the top 3 footballer's in the world, and he's only gonna get better and better. Jonson6

I think if he improves his finishing and becomes a bit more prolific for us, then he will be in top 3.

Absolutely no doubt in my mind that other clubs are going to come in for him. (especially chelski.. (Romans scouts must have a box at Angield)
The question is, will FSG take the money and buy again? Because the money offered will be huge, his head will be turned (like Torres etc) and it could be a good deal again for us...
Just sayin is all...

Myk

Hey Eds,people, a quick question...it isn't to do with Liverpool but as a Liverpool supporter i decided to post on here...

Re Tevez - is it possible for the player to go on loan during this season before January to another European club? And if so, could this be part of the reason he refused to play against Bayern Munich as to make him not be cup tied?

ChrisYNWA {Ed002's Note - No and no.}

Thanks for the speedy response Ed002, i did try and check through google before wasting
your time, many thanks

Does anyone else notice Gerrard is looking fitter than a butchers dog? Of course he still needs to get matches in, but after being out for 6 month you might think he'd put on a pound or two but to me he's looking a real athlete, I'd say better then before he was injured.

Being honest i thought he looked very unfit and worried to break a sweat incase his groin goes! did you see him sprint in the derby? did you see him tackle? my answer to both is no, i think hes feeling it or just scared it goes again!

No i dont agree with the 2nd post, very clever management again, ease him back in & therefore dont give Capello the chance to pick him, he certainly has an extra couple of gears they just werent called for.

To me they are handling him perfectly.

Steve.

As Everton are to appeal Rodwell's sending off, surely LFC would be in order to ask the FA to look into the subsequent assaults carried out by Cahill , Fellaini, Hibbert and Coleman etc on Liverpool players. Atkinson was just as much at fault with his lack of action against these players as he was at fault over Rodwell. I guess LFC will do nothing as no injuries followed but surely it is worth a punt, as Rugby do look into these sort of situations
Finally the School of Science was kicked to rest and it is now Moyes Legacy to be 'proud of ' !!! {Ed002's Note - It doesn't work like that.}

No Ed, it doesn't work like that, but it does seem strange how you can appeal a red card if you think a player is not guilty of such conduct. The FA can charge a player after a game if he is caught maybe elbowing someone in an of the ball incident, yet if Hibbert goes in a wreckless challenge & the ref gives nothing ( not even a yellow) this can't be looked into. Doesn't seem right to me. Wreckless, leg breaking challenges by all players should be stamped out.

Guten Morgen
A football match played on a Saturday afternoon (even if ours was slightly early).
But it seems right, doesn't it ?
It's the chosen day. If you win, you get a good Saturday night out, go out with a spring in your step. Even if you're under the thumb, you can come home early and watch MoTD and feel good all over again.
The rest of the weekend can be spent basking in the glow.
Ergo, if you get beat. At least you've got a day and a bit to get over it. You can kick the cat, shout at the Mrs / kids. Generally spoil everyone else's weekend as your own has been spoilt. There's a little pleasure in that. Lol.
But footy on a Sunday or, even worse, on a Monday night is just wrong. There's not enough time to enjoy the win. Or, if you lose, it's straight back to work. Makes that journey back to work ten times as bad.
Saturday is football day.

Mock the Weekend: Luis Suarez would throw his mother under a train to win a penalty.

By Nick Price Goal.com

*Best cheat of the weekend
Luis Suarez (Liverpool)

The Uruguayan was entirely entitled to leap to avoid Jack Rodwell's sliding tackle, but he acted like a gigantic drama queen by flailing his arms and rolling around as if the hair on the young midfielder's knee that brushed him was tipped with razor blades, which, combined with Martin Atkinson's interpretation of a fair challenge as a reckless leg breaker, effectively got his opponent sent off.

From a Machiavellian viewpoint he's brilliant at what he does, but football, to MTW at least, shouldn't be about opportunistic cynicism, it should be about skill, which Suarez has in abundance, and it's a shame that he continuously acts like a toerag who'd probably throw his own mother under a train if it earned him a penalty or got an opponent in the referee's book.

*Worst moaner of the weekend
Kenny Dalglish (Liverpool)

Given the Scottish manager's one-man crusade against perceived incorrect refereeing calls of late, you'd have thought that he'd have had something to say about easily the most indisputably wrong decision involving his team this season. But instead he just grumbled like a giant, feckless hypocrite with not an ounce of self-awareness when he was asked about the key incident of Saturday's Merseyside derby.

Had he genuinely wanted fairness from officials he would have surely lamented Martin Atkinson's appalling decision to send off Jack Rodwell for having the cheek to win a sliding tackle, but rather than doing that he just grumbled at and harangued his inquisitors for asking an entirely fair question.

Similarly, he flipped out when probed about Andy Carroll's goal and whether it had been a weight off the giant Geordie's shoulders, insisting that there was no problem with the blundering, misfiring, totally out of his depth, inconsistent and utterly doddering striker. His terrible form, the Scot snorted, was not a problem, with the only problem being with the media for pillorying the £35 million man for going over 11 hours of football without scoring in the Premier League.

His comments were borderline insulting to anyone with more than half a brain cell, and his Sir Alex Ferguson-style surliness was pathetic for a man revered as a straight-talking principled bloke. Thank God there's an international break and we don't have to put up with his pointless scowling for a while, hopefully he'll have cheered up by the time the Premier League is back.

THE WORST ARTICLE I HAVE READ RECENTLY! THIS Nick Price IS A PR...K. HE CERTAINLY HAS GOT SOMETHING AGAINST LIVERPOOL MAY BE THIS BLOKE IS AN EVERTON FAN.

Could be a fan of any other club really.

Spot on with the article, deal with it!

He's a man utd fan...and just hates liverpool thus always writing s**t about us and never anything about united

His rant about Suarez sounds just like he's describing Ronaldo at ManU - the archetypal diving cheat along with Robben

Pedro and Busquets are the 2 biggest cheats in football at the moment.

I watched the game again on LFCTV last night and I know that Suarez will get most of the plaudits for Saturdays game but surely Lucas must be a close 2nd for MOTM. I know he still gives away the odd stupid free kick but he's continuing his good form from last year and showing what a good player he actually is, especially when we play away from home

RedDan

Totally agree RedDan, Suarez a constant threat but Lucas did all the dirty work extremely well, i'll probably get shot down but i seriously think he is the best at what he does in the prem...thoughts?

Steve.

Why would you get shot down mate lucas was our best player last season and has continued to be immense and improve this season continually mopping up any mistakes that are made by adam or our backline he is easily one of the best DM in the prem and prob the world right now.
REDhunty

Yep, agree, i saw that he is on 4 bookings perhaps a cheeky little yellow in the last 5 of the utd game to see him out of the Stoke game as in the league, it is him and a.n.other in the centre, either Gerrard/Adam with the former being occasionally shifted wide right or behind Suarez & the latter being occasionally rested depeniding on the oppo.

Steve.

Sorry my mistake forget the bit about the intentional yellow we play Stoke after the Norwich game not the filth...

Lucas Leiva needs a song so he feels our support!!

Just thought i'd let you know before I went to watch the match on Saturday in my local , I was in Tesco's Allerton Road and none other than Dan Agger was in there ! This was just over an hour before the match started. Now I know he was injured and no doubt he did watch the match at home, but surely he should have been at Goodison with his teammates ? I would have thought he would have wanted to be there or is it left up to the player to make that decision ?

Any thoughts ?

REDBOY

Morning Redboy
I once bruised my ribs playing rugby, and it was so painful. A cough, a laugh, the least little thing caused a sharp pain. Did Agger break a couple of ribs ? Anyhow, he would be in pain, ribs strapped up. So no point in sitting in a constricted stand, getting over-excited. He would have been better off at home mate.
The Real KB

Thank you real KB, never thought of it that way, having said that he seemed to be moving very quickly along the aisles and especially the yellow sticker counter ( LOL !)

REDBOY

Seen Agger myself in the same Tesco's, parking in the drop off zone like all the other Dxxxheads and doing his shopping. He should have been at the game supporting his team mates, unless of course he couldn't get a ticket.

Agger, although a good defender has been injured for longer periods than he has been fit, he should be sold in the January window and replaced with someone more reliable and sturdy. Coates may be the answer, Kelly and Wilson should also be given a go, we shouldn't wait until Carra needs a zimmer.

Ed I thought suarez actually said he was disappionted cause he thought he'd be playing with torres. Oh oh i just got a flicker of gervinho and fabregas through my head. Have I got it wrong? Ring the number after the show calls cost a pound Though i meant a less of a wind up and more the histories shared. With rivalry you can't beat liverpool manchester united. Just isn't the same.. Well here for my first visit and paying my respects! Since the days of alonso you never had a better chance.. All you have to do is fight of the spurs and your in but can you do it? Selling your portuguese man why why why? Torres for suarez good deal even though you goodwinked him thinking he'd play with mr spain. Adams is better than our lot give him credit carrol is he constantly hungover? But I've said to your boys i'd prefer to be battlin it out with you guys than chelsea and city better history than money but it looks shakey another year in the grey and the wage packets will be heavy on the club and soon we'll be meeting up in the league cup after your weekends match with leeds saying remember the times? Would be great giving our kids a run out at such a stadium as anfield :) in all seriousness my preference our true nemesis. Best show city what history means. Regards. Constantine Red (MU) {Ed001's Note - how could we have hoodwinked Suarez when he signed after Torres handed in a transfer request and everyone knew he was going?}

ed hope you can answer something for me. talking with mates about what english team have won more title. prems, fa cup, league cup, champs league, europa league. utd fan obviously thought it was them but i was thinking that liverpool have won a few europa leagues or whatever it was called at the time. it must be pretty close but im hoping one of you will know.

GMN {Ed001's Note - we had won one more major trophy than them, but I am not sure if that was before this season's Community Shield or not. Actually, come to think of it, I am not sure if those are even included as major trophies or not! It is much of a muchness anyway, there is at most one in it.}

Trophies:

Liverpool: Leagues 18
Fa Cup 7
League cup 7
European Cup 5
Uefa Cup 3
Total: 40

Man Utd:
League: 19
Fa cup:11
League cup:4
European Cup:3
Total: 38

Charity shields and european supercups, not counted as major trophies, at least not on Lfc's official honours board

U8d have won at least one of the old UEFA Cup Winners Cups (FA Cup winners used to go in that competition), but it was a worthy and major trophy in its day.
The Real KB

The important cups are CL/European Cups, FA Cups & League titles. I don't think anyone cares about the UEFA Cup & League Cup, hence why they play their youth in these competitions. The UEFA Cup is for teams that have failed in the CL/European Cup.

United = 33

Liverpool = 30

I remember a few years back when Man Utd treated the FA Cup as unimportant, but years later they celebrated winning the same comp.
Any competition entered into is worthy of winning and should be counted.

Big Bill

Who's that joker, UEFA Cup & League Cup unimportant ?
They were mostly won at a time when the thought of playing youth teams was unimaginable. In fact, it was argued that the old UEFA Cup was harder to win than the European Cup. Man Utd never managed it, on the few occasions they finished high enough in the league to qualify that is.
