Watching a re-run of the Leicester-Liverpool under 21 game and as usual Texeira is very impressive. Just wondering if the Eds think he might get into first team squads in the event of injuries?

On a separate point apparently Ilori was on the same Sporting team that played us in the Nextgen series a year or two ago as was Texeira. I remember watching the games and being a little depressed as Sporting were just on a different level to us. They annihilated us at Anfield 3-0 and in Lisbon 5-1. Its great to think we have two of those players now.

Hey Ed's!

Thanks for all your great work over the summer. But out of curiosity could you tell me who else was interested in Sakho?

Thank you in advance!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Milan but they weren't prepared to pay the fee and I think Monaco were mentioned, but Sakho wouldn't go to another Ligue 1 team anyway it would be pointless as he has won everything in that league so he had nothing to prove.

Ed's, thanks for keeping us all on the edge of our seats this past couple of months, great work and a site that just keeps getting better.

Does anyone know if the Victor Moses loan deal has the option to be made permanent?
Thanks again.

Hi eds first off a big thank you for keeping us all informed yesterday, sorry to hear ed002 saying he was getting lots of abuse last night unfortunately there will always be keyboard warriors!.

Just wondering its not Liverpool related but what's your take on the united move for the spanish player from bilbao last night who were the 3 men who said they were from united but wern't and what do you think they were up to?.

Cheers.

All the highs of the last few weeks have been tempered by the news of the injury to Glen Johnson- he was awesome against Manchester United and we may miss him in the next few games. Apparently recovery from this type of injury takes longer than normal ankle sprains and I hope it does of require surgery.
Time for the others to step up to the plate.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Maybe sakho or ilori can step in here. I think sakho is left footed but sometimes no bad thing as rafa proved. you can stop the player cutting in on his good foot easier

Hi ed's

With Andy Carroll making his move to West Ham and initially to us whilst he was nursing an injury, why couldn't Coates make a permanent transfer elsewhere? Understand that he's injury is more serious but it's not stopped other players failing medicals whilst nursing injuries. Thank you. {Ed001's Note - because of the injury, it is much more serious than the others were, with an attendant risk to the player's career.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No one is going to buy a player who just underwent surgery, that would be madness.

Side note and no longer Liverpool related, but what is the deal with Carroll anyway? Seems like he's been out forever with a pretty minor foot thing?

Agree0 Disagree0

Plus, we're Liverpool FC. We're a family. Coates is a young kid who's just suffered a horrific injury. The last thing we should do is turf him out. He needs our support.
Not having a go at you mate, I just personally hope that whether he is surplus to requirements or whatever that he gets the best treatment and support from the club for however long he is here.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hear hear daniel

he's one of us, let's look after him

when he's well again, that's a different matter.

he got injured whilst he was here, fighting for our club. we'll get him better again. he may even have a part to play for us. personally I would keep hold of him but put him out on loan. he was young player of the south american cup wasn't he. there must be some potential there. plus I was behind the goal when he scored that scissor kick at qpr. Hi ed's and everyone.

I wish we had kept hold of Borini and not went for Aspas. I believe Borini will prove to be more clinical in front of goal, over time. Aspas comes across as a hard worker but he doesn't seem to show a predators' instincts as yet. Time will answer this question but I hope Borini comes back to prove he's worth. Thanks guys.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Aspas looks like the type of player who 'makes his own luck'. He is always on the move, and has, as Gerrard said 'that little bit of devil in him', always making a nuisance of himself. I think he is a great buy. Saying that, I quite like Borini, but he really needs games - maybe I would have loaned him till Christmas if I was the boss, but I'm not, so hay-ho.

Agree0 Disagree0

My god, you're so consistently negative.

Agree0 Disagree0

Be interesting if we had a recall option on him

personally I thought he was getting better. but I guess he will get even better with more games.
and clearly he's not going to get many here at this moment in time

although as the notts county game proved that this might be a bruising season. it would be nice to think sturridge and suarez will stay fit all season but if they aren't then hopefully we can get him back somehow

Agree0 Disagree0

Aspas was brilliant against utd. Why do you think Carrick was ineffective?12 and 7 in 34 last year in La Liga. Not too shabby. He'll adapt. Fans need to give these guys a chance. He assisted Sturridge against Stoke didn't he?
I find it hard to see how anything negative can be directed at Aspas at this stage. Always this need for instant gratification. Its so draining.

Agree0 Disagree0

Consistently negative you say? What's wrong with having a preference from one player to another? It's called being honest and having a down to earth opinion. Some players fill you fill excitement, even talking about them and some don't. Just the truth.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes. You've been unhappy about pretty much everyone thats' arrived at the club, and now those that have left too.

Borini has never performed at the top level, Aspas has.

If you've been rubbing lamps, what a waste of a wish.

Hi Ed's and Reds,
fantastic international break or what after the window closed and top of the league. I was kinda bored and so was just looking at our current form etc. Since 14/2/13 when we lost the first leg of europa v zenit, we have gone on quite a run of results. Now including our summer matches since then we have;
Pl 24, W 18, D 4, L 2, FSG 54, A 14.
Now this also includes 15 clean sheets along the way. Plenty of reason to be optimistic, considering our new signings and Suarez to rejoin the group. I definitely see a marked improvement in our consistency. It started in Feb not just the beginning of this season. So as Lucas says, celebrate and enjoy our standing now because the team will be treating each game as a cup final from now on. Well it cheered me up anyway lol, big up to all the Ed's too for the usual gr8 service,
cheers Si

It's funny that we say there's no place for sentiment in football, with people saying that we should consider dropping Agger and play Sakho. But at the same time we curse the Suarez' and the Owen's for essentially dropping us in favour of bigger clubs. Especially given Agger's love and loyalty over the year's I feel that unless he is absolutely diabolical, giving away points left, right and centre he should play bar none. {Ed001's Note - anyway, we have 3 clean sheets in the league with him playing, I think he deserves to keep his place so long as he keeps playing well.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

An excellent point. I was chatting about this the other day. Instead I used Carragher as the example last year due to him finding it hard to make the team during KK's reign and the first part of the season.
Should our club have been loyal to a player who has shown great loyalty to us despite the fact he was out of form?
For me the answer is of course not. End of the day it is about what is best for the club and what will help the club win more matches. What do you think

Agree0 Disagree0

If it ain`t broke, don`t fix it!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think eventually Agger will lose his place to Sakho, yes we've kept a few clean sheets but that doesn't mean the opposition didn't get through. Agger is very good, don't get me wrong but there is a reason why everyone has been raving about Toure, I believe he's shown the other two up he's that good and if Sakho is anywhere near as good as I've heard then he hasn't come to sit on the bench and we're not going to drop our best defender.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think what posters were implying was, he shouldn't be picked just because he's vc. Which is right.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree calmdown.
carragher was a perfect example of thinking about the team before himself.

although I can't help thinking he agreed to his sky job before he regained his place in the team. I reckon he would have stayed another year if he hadnt lost it. I'd love to see him back at the club in a coaching capacity in the next year or so

Agree0 Disagree0

The post, and poster in question is me. i'm sorry but to the OP you're wrong and you're missing the point. There isn't a place for sentiment in football, end off. Agger has been doing well and we have 3 clean sheets. That could all be different however, it were agger who gave away the pen to stoke, and he also let van persie in 1 on 1 toward the end of the game. He has been great, yet prone to mistakes. If sakho comes in and does better, then he should be replaced. players should be played on form, not just because they have a lfc tattoo or is vice captain. get me?

Agree0 Disagree0

What about because they turned down offers from CL clubs to stay and help us get to where we are going? I agree that if his mistakes start costing us then he should be dropped, but how two-faced fans can be when the window is closed is beyond me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Though financially I can see FSG eventually wanting to move Skrtle, Agger and Johnson on as they apart from Gerrard and maybe Lucas are on the High salaries of the Benitez era . Unless Agger signs a new contract with a smaller basic and higher performance bonus.
Its the way FSG want to handle all contracted players and its a good incentive to get the best value for money.
I see wisdom going on Loan in January and returning as CB cover in the summer
BR going after an established RB next Summer and Johnson being moved on.
Skrtel will leave by next summer and Ilori will be Toure's understudy whilst also covering RB, kelly has lost that pace and will have to work hard to challenge for a place. Enrique will also be moved on, and cisokho will make that position his own with flanaghan/sakho/illori all covering that position.
Once Toure retires in about 3 seasons time, we'd have a new RB, the CB's would be illori and Sakho, and CIssokho will be LB. Wisdom, FLanaghan, Robinson, Will be the cover, and a new young CB will be signed as Sakho's understudy.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am a great believer in staying with a team if you re winning.
Agger did give away a penalty but it was saved and if he learns not to throw your arms about in the box whilst not hurting LFC then that's fine by me.
Basically, what I am trying to say is that all players make mistakes but I only think a player should be dropped if those mistakes impact the result and in Agger's case they did not.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Sep 2013 20:08:23
Do you remember when Liverpool had a Scottish legend manager just retired (Kenny), a new Scottish manager struggling (Souness) and an ageing squad. And United had a new young squad, good young manager (Fergie / Rodgers?), 1 crazy foreign striker (Eric / Suarez?) and Captain Marvel (Robbo / Gerrard?) - the current England captain who deserved a title win before he retired.

On such circumstances eras can be built! Clutching at straws maybe, but last year we started awfully. But from when we played in Jan to Now United and Liverpool have played 19 games each and we have 1 more point than them.

Hi eds and pals, thanx to all on this site especially Ed02 who has been our wife, tolerating our ignorance and arrogance, and also ed001 for creating this platform for us who are very distinct from the club to know what's going on.
Ed001 and fellow reds, if I may ask, who would be your best set of defenders for our matches? Something I've had sleepless nights about. {Ed001's Note - I love Agger, but he does tend to go to sleep at times, so I would give him the chance to sort that out by playing Sakho on the left while Cissokho is out. Ilori on the bench, Kelly on the right and Skrtel alongside Agger. When Toure comes back, I would let Skrtel keep his place until his form dips. If all were fit and in form though, I would have Kelly at right back, Toure alongside Sakho and Cissokho on the left. Toure and Sakho are just better suited to our system, if on form. Always go with form though, for me, as it gives other players hope of forcing their way in and staying in. It also makes sure the ones in the team keep up the level of their performances to avoid being dropped.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Do you guys believe Sakho will be a big hit? Heard of him along time ago, haven't had the opportunity to see him a lot though. Must Admit I am a big fan of Toure, suppose it is a good headache to have! {Ed001's Note - I was very impressed that we got him, I think he will prove to be a great signing.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I like Agger ( I cannot call it love as I do not have ED001s predilections)
but I worry about his lack of power.
great going forward-fairly speedy-but no oomph. The same goes for Skrtel (the lack of oomph part I mean) we need someone who can dish it out - I am not advocating dirty play but we need a rough tough man at the back - long time missing from the team {Ed001's Note - so we should cancel our date then Puzzled? I was really looking forward to it too!}

Agree0 Disagree0

I love agger, he's shown his loyalty now time for us to stand by him. He will improve with competition for places and will continue to start.

And although sakho could be good at lb I think Enrique has raised his game again.

Competition for courses a good thing. lots and lots of clean sheets hopefully

Agree0 Disagree0

Sakho`s a beast and he will be a big hit. I`m chuffed to bits that we got him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I am prepared to go ahead with the date but only if there are no tongues this time

Agree0 Disagree0

Glen Johnson has a high ankle sprain.
He could be out from 5 weeks up to 3 months.
Depending on the grade of the injury.
Hopefully it's not a complete tear to the ligaments.

Wisdom to start the coming games? Or Toure?
Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Or Sakho. Or Ilori?. Did you not see the new signings?

Agree0 Disagree0

He could be back for Swansea.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's a shame, as Johnson has done fantastic work in are first three games of the League, he's one of the more experienced players and is in fine form. Hopefully he slots right back :) in after the international break. Otherwise it's big Martin Kelly's time.

Really looking forward to the Monday night Swansea-Liverpool game in 13 long days time. Hopefully we can ease a good result and keep things going fantastically well.

Are you for real Guv? You want to play Sakho, a left footed Giant who has never in his life played at right back? Or Ilori who will

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually, johnson was by far the worst player on the field the first two games, and the best before he got injured in the game against united, we will certainly miss him, but to say that he has been in fine form is not exactly true in my eyes.

I would like to say a massive thank you to Mr J Henry and the owners of LFC for a great transfer window I know Willian got away was not that bothered to be honest really pleased in our signings. To all you people who slated Mr Henry and co how stupid do you feel now? And don't come on and say ye but they never got Lionel or Ronaldo we were not in the market to buy massive fee players we were in there to find gems to polish up and didn't we just do that . Johnson won't be available for Swansea. I have had a high anklestrain, at least 5 weeks. If he plays it will get much worse and we might loose him for 4 months. Its not a footy manager game.

And The Guv, are you for real? Hehe, playing Sakho the left footed giant who actually never played a game at right back? Funny guy:)

Tiago Ilori is a very good prospect but you just can't through him in so inexperienced as he is in a position he is totally unfamiliar & uncomfortable with away against Swansea mate.

Wisdom or Toure.

03 Sep 2013 18:49:12
Am I right in thinking that Championship clubs can still loan players? I know how hard you've been working eds so this is more a question aimed at the other LFC fans on here. Guys is Ozil better than Suarez?
Or are Arsenal fans deluded? (I do believe however Arsenal's midfield is so much better.)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Sep 2013 21:37:25
In my humble opinion Ozil is an absolute world-class player but he and Suarez are 2 completely different players.

Suarez is a 20+ goals a season player.
Ozil is a 20+ assists a season player.

In all honesty though Ozil is not as frustrating as Luis, but on his day Luis Suarez is a top 5 in the world player.

And btw I completely disagree about their midfield. If you count Cazorla & Ozil as midfielders so is Countinho and Alberto.
They also have the likes of Diaby, Frimpong.

Wilshere, extremely overhyped since a wonderful breakthrough due to the fact he is made of glass. Constant injuries has taken away much of his pace.

Come on, Ramsey is their best midfielder right now. That says it all!

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal have so many holes that Ozil`s transfer CANNOT overcome.

Agree0 Disagree0

Interesting point and I'm sure if you posted it on the Arsenal page most of them would try and convince themselves that Ozil is a better signing that Luis would have been but in my opinion:

- Suarez would get into every first 11 in the world - Ozil wouldn't
- Suarez has done the business in a team that finished 7th in the PL - Ozil played for a team that always finished top 2 in Spain and compete for latter stages of CL yet they sold him
- Real wanted Suarez - they didn't want Ozil
- Arsenal wanted Suarez as their top transfer target not Ozil

They are different players but Suarez is different class.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'll tell you one better my brother is trying to convince me that Konschielny (spelling) is better than Agger and Giroud better than Sturridge

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Sep 2013 00:21:12
Pace is one important element in the BR style of play as is ability to play the ball from defence which I have no doubt Agger is better than Toure at that, I do not know about Sakhos ability in that department so will not comment.
Also I don't think Agger is particularly slow and Toure is particularly fast, in fact I would say Agger is probably quicker first couple of yards but maybe Toure is over a run. I think Toure has started really well for us but my choice would be Agger. Just my opinion, and that's what it is all about I suppose.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Sep 2013 22:11:11
So why is Toure or Sakho for that matter more suited to our style of play than Agger? {Ed001's Note - pace mainly. To press the ball on defence, it is an advantage to keep a line as high up the pitch as possible, as that allows the midfield and attack to press further up. The higher you can keep your line, the further up field you can win the ball back. If the centre backs lack pace, they need to drop deep to protect against balls over the top, if they have pace, they don't have to worry so much about them.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree0 Disagree0

Some will leave? {Ed001's Note - probably not until January now though.}

Agree0 Disagree0

See momo was released by PSG and linked to reading? Has he really gone downhill that much? I used to love him and after all he was part of the greatest midfield in the world. Did that eye injury effect his career that much?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I loved him and was a great player for Liverpool even though I see a lot of stick directed at him.

His knee's seem to be giving him massive trouble and PSG being stacked with class players have no need of him.

Hopefully Reading go Up so we can see him playing PL again.

How many England Captains do we have at our club at all levels?
Just read Wisdom has been named Under 21 Captain. we also have Stevie G, Henderson, Coady. Future looks good

Believable0 Unbelievable0

One of the reasons English football is in such a state. Players at all levels of the national team are picked on reputation alone. How can a guy who doesn't play regularly for his club even be picked by England U21's, let alone captain? Embarrassing. {Ed001's Note - are you for real? Or just a complete clueless fool who has never watched a game a football at youth level in his life? The U21s very rarely have players who are first team regulars for their clubs, as it is a youth team. Why don't you go troll somewhere else, all your posts are idiotic, that is why they are all being deleted now. You are right about one thing, your posts are embarrassing.}

Well done the reds!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Liverpool have had a very good transfer window. A transfer window in which we made several very good signings and also managed to keep Luiz, who was Arsenal's first choice. I believe the fact that we are keeping Suarez overshadows the Ozil transfer. Well done indeed.

Nice group - especially Nico. I'd be inclined to go for Malcolm X, Pope Pius XII, Bill Hicks, Joe Walsh, Christopher Isherwood, and Ethel Rosenberg.

Agree0 Disagree0

Eric Morcambe to see of he is as funny in real life. Big Ian Paisley and Gerry Adams, again for more comedy value. My late Grandad because it would be nice to see him again and God. Just to ask him where it all went wrong. {Ed001's Note - I would go with my grandad as well Irish, because he is the person I looked up to most in life. Plus Ken Dodd, one because they were good friends and two because he is the funniest person I have ever known, though it would have to start early as once he gets going he never stops! Shanks would be a definite, as would Paisley, Moran and Roy Evans. Those 4 could teach you everything you ever needed to know about football, and they would barely scratch the surface of their knowledge doing so.}

I would have to go with ozzy osbourne ill say bob paisley instead of shanks tom green john belushi steve buscemi kelly brook

He was asking my grandad about what he did, was in the oil business etc, because he must have some money to afford to stay there. When me grandad said no to all the possible lines of business Ford can think of, he asked him how he could afford to stay in the hotel and me grandad told him how he had won a holiday from a Pot Noodle. Hi Eds, thanks for all your work over the last few crazy weeks. It seems that made a last minute attempt to sign 29 year old creative mid-fielder Wesley Sneijder, for £7M from Galatasaray. I therefore find it odd that we didn't bid for 21 year old creative mid-fielder Eriksen, who we tracked for months and who eventually signed to Spurs for £12M. Why didn't we bid for him? Thanks. {Ed002's Note - There was no bid for Sneijder and I have spent the summer explaining the situation about Eriksen.}

Firstly I want to say a massive thank you to all the Eds who have put this page together. Your efforts have been epic throughout the year, and particularly the window, and it is greatly appreciated by all us readers!

One quick question which I'd liike to run by you all though - how come no-one went in for Menez of PSG? He's only got a year left on his contract and has all the attributes of a great winger. I know he's had a lot of muscular problems, but thought some one would have snapped him up. Did any of you hear of any interest form us in him / anyone in the EPL? {Ed002's Note - Inter showed some interest in Menez but were put off by an injury and he would like a return to Monaco but they are not showing an interest.}

I was just watching David Moyes interview again after the Liverpool game . My god has he aged over the last 6 months . Look at the colour of him Grey as a slate. Would make a great stunt double for Darth Sidious ha ha.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I know its early days with him but I think he looks out of his depth, will judge him later on but the signs are encouraging ie that he will make them a lot weaker hence could be all to really play for this season, nothing I have seen from the so called elite teams would scare me, city look dodgy at the back chelsea have torres and eto as strikers so imo are short there arsenal and spurs the juries are out so far so imo we have nowt to be afraid of plus we have no stupid thursday night euro trips so all in all I think its all looking promising for us to have a real go at it . get behind the team there will be ups and downs but I think we can get to where we should be .

Hello fellow kopites,
Really happy with all our signings and especially OUT's. Of course would have loved a top notch player in but no issues there is always Jan window. But just a hypothetical question.
If Chelsea were interested in loaning Lukaku do you reckon we should have taken him in?
Would have loved him in attack alongwith Suarez, Sturridge and Coutinho. Also watching Everton uptill now, I was 100% convinced they would not even finish top 10 with Jelavic and Kone but feel Lukaku can drag them to atleast 10th. {Ed002's Note - Moses is already on loan from Chelsea so only a loan-to-buy would be allowed and that was not an option.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Our bench is much nicer than the Chelsea bench but I doubt Jose would let him join us.

Sakho and Agger at the back i'd believe, got to remember that Agger is Vice now so he's pretty much nailed on.
It also gives us the option of a 3-5-2 with Cissokho (when he's fit). Fantastic and versatile players now, giving us many ways to approach games. I think the 3-5-2 will be used against the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal away from home.
We will win many games and have made ourselves a lot more difficult to beat. Top 4 is going to be very competitive this season, Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, City, United and Us are all strong enough to push for it, 6 teams and four places. Got to hope that Tottenham take a while to settle and maybe Arsenal struggle. City and Chelsea should do well. United are so so with new manager.

Come On Liverpool, it is now time we seriously started making strides to get back on our perch!

A topic to discuss. Will sakho replace agger? Kolo has been phenomenal. Would you mind kolo and sakho being the preferred cb's? Discuss :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Let's see him play first. Obviously the players who make the biggest impact will be the ones who are selected.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Sep 2013 14:30:13
sakho is class. so as Kolo.
But Agger is a different Breed. you don't replace player like Agger.
Its an Honour for a club like Liverpool to have Agger who rejected Barcelona to play for us.
hatss off to him. No matter if he is injured half season.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Sep 2013 14:30:52
More over. Agger is so clam with the Ball. the way he creates the atatck from back is just pure class.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's going to be a 3-5-2 in most away shames, or a 3-4-3

Agree0 Disagree0

I was wondering myself, BR has said Sakho plays LCB or LB which is Aggers natural side? He might go 3 at the back, to be honest that might help our full backs as there much better attacking than defending.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Sep 2013 15:07:22
I don't think it's fair to the squad for Agger to be undropable.
Resisting Barcelona is impressive but he cannot be guaranteed a starting berth based on that alone.
His performances need to be scrutinised exactly the same as anybody else's.
Also why would we have 5 CBs fighting for the one spot, with Agger retaining his place regardless?
It won't happen, frankly if Sakho is better than Agger then he should replace him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sakko can also play left full so assume Enrique could be under pressure to hold his spot. {Ed002's Note - It would be a waste to use him there.}

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Sep 2013 15:14:42
Why not play 532 and use all 3 players at once?

Agree0 Disagree0

We could play either 3-5-2, 3-4-3, 5-3-2, 5-2-3 or even a silly 3-1-5 LOL. But having said that, Sakho would compete with Agger, Toure would compete with Skrtel and Ilori would learn from all four. If it is about adaptability, Ilori would be the best among the lot as he is able to play all four defensive positions, so my take is that if we need to play with a Sweeper, he could be our choice. He's pacy, good reader of the game, good with the feet and a good passer of the ball (both long and short)

Agree0 Disagree0

In a 3-5-2 or a 5-3-2, the advantages would be that we could have 3 top notch centre backs playing, Suarez and Sturridge can both play, Coutinho would play in the middle, and Enrique and Johnson can both attack more than defend. Sounds good to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't agree with him needing to play because he's vice captain and rejected Barcelona. Call me what you like, but there is no place in football for sentiment. Sentiment doesn't win things. Agger is prone to a mistake now and then. I trust BR to the end, if sakho and kolo make a stronger partnership we should get behind him.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is a bit of a dilemma Rodgers has on his hands at CB. Surely Sakho will not be happy if he's not playing pretty quickly here, but the same is true of Agger and Toure as well. Skrtel looked quite good against United and may deserve another shot at it and I'm sure Ilori would like some games, so what to do? Three at the back isn't the worst idea but then someone else requires dropping to suit it. A headache for sure, but probably one BR welcomes to some extent over not having enough coverage.

I'd guess it'll be based on form, fitness, and opposition, personally. Some games we could well see say Toure + Sakho, some perhaps Ilori + Toure + Agger or Skrtel + Agger + Sakho.

Whatever happens it should be quite interesting to see.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's nice to think we have so many options at the back now - if Agger gets injured we've got some very capable back-ups no matter who's first choice (I agree Agger is the nailed-on starter). In fact, we're well set up to deal with injuries in any position, even Lucas, who can be replaced by Toure, Ilori or even Agger, or we could happily switch to 5-3-2 (or 3-5-2, however you want to put it).

IMO I would have only sent Borini out on a loan until Xmas. He needs game time, that's for sure, but 3 months away banging them in, and then bring him back into the fold. Looking at our squad we have 2 quality players for every position apart from upfront. Aspas is a more creative forward rather than your typical number 9. IMO Sturridge and Borini were the only one's we had.

Before anyone say what about Saurez, he is not a goal poacher either, he scores lots because he is brilliant, (Messi scores lots but he ain't a typical number 9 either)

like I say before I get people bitching just my opinion

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I wouldn't classify Sturridge as a 'poacher' either though. He's not at all a Bent/Defoe/Holt type of striker who primarily hangs out in the box (although he's quite capable there as well). Seems to me a large chunk of his goals have actually come from shots near or about the 18 yard mark? Might be remembering incorrectly though.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't call Suarez a poacher either but he showed last year that he's more than capable of spearheading a front 3. Likewise, Aspas might not be a typical No.9 but the way that BR's concentrating on fluid movement in the midfield and attack (as the eds have pointed out, we don't really have formations, just starting positions on the pitch) means that he doesn't have to be, particularly with Moses at LW

'I loved it so much. I've never been before. If I didn't support a team and I came to this game, this atmosphere and this ground, I'd be a Liverpool fan. I've never really heard support like it. It was amazing - it was overwhelming to see such an incredible atmosphere. It was brilliant.'

People are complaining about not having enough strikers or goals in the team.

We have sold the goals of Shelvey, Downing and loaned Borini; that isn't even ten league goals.

We will have a full season of Sturrudge which is potentially 15-20 goals. Moses will add 5-10 goals likewise with Aspas. I can see Hendo improving further from last year and if Suarez comes back and gives 100% he can easily get 15-20 goals like Studge.

Kolo and Sakho will also add a much larger threat to the opposition from set pieces. And with Johnson injured we won't have an attacking right back who either cuts onto his left or loses the ball so Kelly can hopefully stay fit.

That's not mentioning the creativity that we have added with Coutinho, Aspas and Moses.

Plus we have heavily improved our defence, potentially the best in the league with Kolo, Sahko and a rejuvenated Skrtel. Plus Mignolet will get us 10 points at a minimum.

We should be nearly 20 points better off and in contention for top 4.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Im with you ben, don't understand where people are coming from. we score shed loads of goals last season, it wasnt our problem. we needed to sure up defence more than anything which we look to have done.

anyone still complaining, get a hold of yourselves, we are 100% record so far and have bought some exciting players.

ENJOY! there's just no pleasing some people

Agree0 Disagree0

I think what worries most is Sturridge is injury prone Aspas isn't a true number 9 and god knows what Suarez will do next.
It is a concern that Borini is loaned out add to that Morgan isn't good enough and neither is Yesil who is still coming back from injury.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm still of the opinion that we would get more goals playing Coutinho at LW and getting someone like Michu to play AM, but I agree with you, this team on paper shouldn't be short on goals - I think people are judging too harshly on the three 1-0s so far, which have been mostly down to focussing on a tight (and deep) defence after getting a goal in the first-half.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez is back in 2 games time so Sturridge only needs to keep fit for the next 2 games really and then we have 4 options up front. Aspas, Suarez, Sturridge and Moses. 2 worldies in Sturridge and Suarez and the back up options can play wide as well.
Decent in my opinion!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well if we keep things tight enough at the back, which we are in a really good position to do so, then we don't have to score as many goals. That's got to be our tactic until January.

Really happy with the players we've brought in even if we have 5 players vying for 2 CD spots and that's not counting the future prospect Llori. I think moses will be a serious addition too. Fair dues to Everton as well. They didn't let United bully them on price and brought in 3 good players who'll do a job for them.

Anyone else think that Kelly is going to have a tough time trying to get into the team again?

He's done a great job at right back when fit but he does seem a little large to be the long term vision for that position. I would think that we will strengthen RB in the future windows also. I think a loan will help when he gets fully fit but it looks like we have our CB's covered for years now - I can see him eventually sold to be honest. Shame because he's a good player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I see him battling Johnson for a right back spot, with Wisdom likely to go on loan to the Championship in a week or so. As long as he trains and plays well then he has as much chance of being first choice right back as Johnson.

the best part of this season so far is that we have maximum points having not dominated either of the 3 games we've won. this is what man u did for years and won enough off the back of it. no matter how well we keep the ball or who plays for us its nice to see us grind out results for a change. sign of a good team!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As Brendan so rightly says, the only that stat that matters is whether you win. I'm fed up having to contrive reasons to be cheerful off pass completion, chances created and possession stats. Find a way to win even when half your time are below par. Against Villa and Manchester United we didn't let them counter-attack. Two banks of four and try and get round us. In a combined 90 mins we had two dangerous efforts for Migs to save. There'll be lots of games this season when we score early and score 4 or 5. Those games aren't the problem. It's turning narrow defeats into draws and draws into narrow wins that will dictate whether we can finish top 4 (or possibly higher). I did say 3rd or 4th in my post a week or so back!

Agree0 Disagree0

And that is how we won all the titles and trophies years ago. Finally people get it.

Just a question of opinion's from fellow reds and maybe the ed's.

Has anyone noticed the fairly quiet start to the season Coutinho has made? which is understandable and not a criticism as he can't dominate every game and is still very young, but part of me wonders whether due to our formation he cannot control the game as well due to being played out on the left and not in the centre where he is best as an AM, feeding genius little balls over the top for Suarez/Sturridge which is the reason I believe BR wanted a LW in the first place.

I was just wondering what people's thoughts are on what our new formation will be when Suarez returns and where will we be playing Coutinho?

Also whether Moses/Toure/Aspas will be in the first team?

Thanks a lot guys, especially the ed's you've been fantastic all window. Hope we keep up this analytical side to the site as well as transfers now the window has closed. Please post in banter.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I fully agree HX Red. I think he's looked quite frustrated in all the games actually. I assume when Suarez is back we will play Sturridge as the front man, Suarez on the left with either Aspas or Moses on the right, with Coutinho in the hole feeding balls through. This begs the question though of what happens in CM? Gerrard, Henderson and Lucas gunning for places. It's a headache BR must have, however it's a good headache to have I imagine!

Coutinho most definitely needs to be played central, which is why I believe Moses was brought in. Sturridge has by far earned the right to play up top, and there is no way Suarez isn't going to be in the team when he returns from his ban.

I just hope Henderson doesn't suffer as a result of it, as I imagine Gerrard and Lucas will be first picks as the deeper pairing in midfield.

From what Rodgers has said, seems Moses will play left. Though sounds like we will chop an change during games. After Aspas' pre season, he seems a bit off the boil. Was pushed off the ball far too Mich against united, think Moses will give us a good bit of strength/pace

Agree0 Disagree0

Ye suarez to the left, coutinhio in the hole, sturridge up top and aspas or moses to the right. still surprised two defenders came in and skrtle didn't leave. my choice would be toure to partner agger, his experience is key {Ed008's Note - Henderson on the right? Helps out Johnson defending a lot.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Sep 2013 13:03:38
Coutinho has started well enough when you consider we've played 2 of the 3 most physical teams in the league already, and the team that won it last season. I personally think the assist on Sturridges goal at Villa should be credited to him for his sublime dummy that carved the opening. He also claimed an assist against Notts County. So far he has 1/2 asssists therefore, in 4 games, and the whole team is yet to hit top gear. Coutinho also works very hard off the ball in terms of pressing and making runs to draw defenders away from other players. He is a clever little player, and he will only improve as the season goes on, and the team gels. With Suarez coming back, I think It likely our front 4 will be:
Sturridge
Coutinho Suarez Henderson
So I see Aspas dropping to the bench. This is a good front 4 as it blends Sturridge's natural striking ability, with Coutinho's creativity, Suarez's flair and Henderson grit and work ethic. It also means we will now have Aspas, Moses and Sterling/Ibe on the bench who can come on and change the game in attack. I don't honestly think we'll have a set 1st team this year, but I think that Rodgers will just play whoever is impressing the most in training, or is in the best form. At the minute, that is Henderson and Sturridge. Don't be too dragged into the 'Coutinho on the left' debate. We play with a fluent front line, therefore you will liekly see all 3 players behind Sturridge interchanging all game. It's just the way Rodgers likes to attack. A player with a designated base position is easy to mark out of the game whilst maintaining defensive shape. The idea behind the interchanging is to drag defenders out of position and create holes for us to exploit.

With regards to Toure, I think he will have a fight on his hands if he wants first team football. Sakho and Agger will go into the Swansea game as first choice, I'm sure. When Toure is fit, it's up to him to knock one of them off the team sheet. I think the same goes for our whole team. There is no 'first XI' and 'Back up XI' anymore. Its a 25 man squad, and if you want to play, you up your game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Against stronger teams we should play Henderson but against weaker clubs, and especially at home we need Moses to help break them down.

Moses. Coutinho and Suarez playing off Sturridge is seriously dangerous.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good link on the Liverpool website showing how the top four players font really have 'set' positions. Worth a read

Agree0 Disagree0

It's all on form for me. Hendo deserves to be in the starting XI right now. And I agree he balances out the side if you want Sturridge, Suarez & Coutinho starting up top.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Coutinho is being targeted a bit more this season, he was subjected to 3 or 4 very heavy tackles against United, which can't help his game. He made a lovely dummy for the goal against Villa though, and has still made some excellent passes. I personally think he's playing pretty well if not excellently, but if I were you I'd be delighted that we've won 3 from 3 despite him being (in your opinion) below par

As good as our transfer window was it has also set us up for the future.
Pepe Reina, Martin Skrtel, Luis Suarez, Sebastian Coates and Oussama Assaidi are still Liverpool players.
We have such depth now that they are no longer essential to our squad and can be sold on.
Which means their departures in the future will help fund the improvement of our squad when they are sold.

When people have patience instead of losing their temper at the tiniest little thing, they can see the bigger picture.

Last year, I remember a lot of post's sayin Champions Leauge 2/3/4 years away at the very least, a big rebuild is needed, a lot of time is needed, but at the same time, there was about the same amount of FSG/Rodgers out posts. 12 months down the line, FSG's policy is slowly beginnin to flourish under a manager who believes in the same/similar philosophy and the ability to be able to input his own style and belief's of how football should be played. It's all coming together slowly and it is begginin to prove itself and pay dividends.

Let's be honest, 12 months ago, although some where asking for it, do many people believe would have let someone like Pepe leave Anfield, even with his recent performances? And at the same time, we are now talking about reaching Champions League this year.

This is simple proof people should believe in the manager and the owners, believe they are doing what's right and what's best for Liverpool Football Club. You continuously hear Brendan comment on how Liverpool fan's feel about the club, he know's it, he feel's it and he know's we deserve it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Chuffed with the level of depth. In the past, we`ve beenessentially a one or two-man team at best. Now, we are a well-oiled machine. AWESOME!

We have 6 CBs (Coates, Skrtel, Agger, Toure, Sakho, Ilori), do you think one of them will be converted to DM?

Thanks {Ed002's Note - Wisdom and Kelly to be released from their contracts then?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Kelly is recovering his confidence (slowly) after a serious injury and Wisdom was earmarked for a loan before Johnson's injury. Skrtel was available for sale, as was Coates. My simple powers of deduction suggest Rodgers sees Sakho pushing both Toure & Agger to start, Skrtel providing experienced back-up with Ilori being eased in slowly and possibly loaned in January if Skrtel stays and the young fella isn't getting too many games.

I think that those who wanted Suarez to stay owe Carlo ancelotti a thanks. It was his insistence that he didn't want Suarez which made Madrid reticent to up their offer as they didn't want a 50m asset sitting on the bench. Before Carlo was installed I was told Madrid would be very willing to meet whatever price we wanted for Suarez, which they expected to be 45m at the time, after Carlos comments they were much less interested.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Everyone knows the president chooses the players I'm sure ancellotti wouldn't have spent £80m or so on one player either.

Agree0 Disagree0

Carlo is unconcerned with the price but was extremely keen on bale, there was no resistance from him over that transfer. He did express concern over Suarez however which is one of the main reasons why a second bid never came.

Christ how can his career be over he's only played a handful of games and then had a serious injury, Borini is only going out on loan so he can get back up to speed in the prem without the pressure of all those calling for his head. A good season loan getting back into it then he'll return and hopefully become a good player for us. Don't forget how different the prem is and it can take a while to adapt, did Henry set the world on fire when he first moved from Italy which is the slowest league of the big four?

Agree0 Disagree0

Bit of an overreaction svenred haha

03 Sep 2013 10:41:41
I personally see Borini"s Liverpool career is over. I don't see him returning next summer, Even if he does well, If Borini doesn't fit in redgers system, what Difference does an year make then?
He is a CF, and BR played him out wide right and that's the only reason of his failure.
I hope he plays well there and get some goals and Recoup the 11 mill we paid for him.
same can be said in Allens Case, He might fit inot BR style, But currently he is a bench player, And I don't see him starting Over current 3 Midfield players.
Thats possibly 25 mill wasted on two players.
Overall the team looks good. let's hope we get the results we looking for.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Shut up Harry you clueless fool Rogers worked with both players I personally think he bought them to fit his system let's be honest

Agree0 Disagree0

They were both former players for Rodgers. Both successful for him too.

Allen has had injuries, but recently in preseason as well he has played well. He is not a player to set the world on fire, just a steady worker.

Borini has been unlucky, he has good movement and touch. LFC are a massive club and probably daunting for any player, but strikers are confidence players, I guess a few like yourself Harry haven't helped him to settle.

Both are our players and should have our support, I hope Borini plays well and scores loads for Sunderland. He is a player who can play in the front three, not just CF.

Agree0 Disagree0

He played out wide a lot for Roma and managed to hit double figures. He does fit Rodgers system it's just that some fans haven't given him a chance and this affects the confidence of a young player, the loan will do him good, he can get used to Prem again without the added pressure of playing for fans who seem to think being injured for most of the year is the same as having no talent.

Agree0 Disagree0

Before you write your ideas on here Harry perhaps you should try and read some of the official comments that come from the club and BR as you couldn't be further from the actual situation with your initial post. Next time you get an urge to overreact, take a breath and say "No!"

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Sep 2013 13:25:47
If he can play in Front Three, what's stopping him at Liverpool?
An 18 year old Kid sterling or 17 Year old IBE or New signinf Aspas, whos playing more games than him?.
If BR rates IBE and sterling more than Borini (Since he can play anywhere in front 3), That means he is going.

Agree0 Disagree0

Whilst I agree that Borini and Allen are Brendan's signings for his system, Borini really hasn't been successful for Rodgers at any point. I suppose that depends on your definition of successful, but his goal record for Swansea was mediocre in the Championship.

He's just not good enough to start in the Premiership. He's a striker who doesn't score. He's not going to displace Strurridge or Suarez and will soon be overtaken by Ibe.

For his own career I think he should get a move back to Serie A. He won't do anything at Sunderland.

Allen is also way down the peckin order.

Agree0 Disagree0

With regards to Allen, I wonder what your opinion was of Henderson a year ago, or Lucas 3 years ago- Muppets.

Borini will do well at Sunderland and hime Sturridge will rotate the man up top role for years to come. Think 3 months loan would have been better than season mind.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jesus christ. Lucas was awful in the beginig, He matured into a pretty solid player, he was bought at 5 mill to cover for Alosno. We actually never mind if he exixted or not.
Joe Allen was bought as the first teamer with a whooping 18 mill and now finds himself out of deapth. And aded to it, we might be getting will hughes. where do you honeslty think Allen would play in?

Regarding Borini. Nonsese. If we sell suarez we would buy two top class proven players. We also have Aspas in the striker role. I pray Borini does well with sunderland, and we get 11 mill from them, Simple.
Now adding all these where do you think borini is going to play.

I just wish We loan Allen and save his wages. He is injured half seaosn. and rest he is in the bench.Ed what's his wages?
He cannot be cover for Lucas since he isn't a DM.
If gerrard gets Injured we should push hendo to CM and Countinho to ACM
I don't know where does Allen play?

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't agree Harry. Borini is massively rated in Italy and by Rodgers. Unfortunately for a combination of reasons it hasn't happened for him. If he gets a run of games and gets 10-15 goals this season he will return ready to make a difference for us. Allen's a good footballer but his best position is occupied by Gerrard (remember Rodgers took over and was terrified that injuries would deprive him of SG - Allen was seen as vital to ensure a key area of the team was covered). Allen's importance to the squad will become apparent as the season goes on. The fact that midfield wasnt touched (really) in the window suggests Rodgers trusts Lucas, Gerrard, Henderson & Allen. Alberto can drop in there too if its his sort of game.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Sep 2013 14:35:24
Mate.
When you loan someone at the end of the window, You harldy want him back. Borini was here all pre-season. and for the first 3 games. he is not going to come back.
Ed what's your view on Wisdom?. we have 4 first choice CB with us now, provided we alos have kelly who ahsnt got a game till now. {Ed001's Note - Borini is wanted, he was sent out on loan because of people like you, the same ones who constantly got on Lucas's back and never gave him a chance either. Now he has a chance to get over his injuries and find his feet away from the boo boys and come back ready to challenge for a first team place full of confidence.
Wisdom is expected to be loaned out for experience.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Borini looks like a potentially really useful player. Quick and intelligent.

He has been snatching at chances - clearly short of confidence and trying too hard.

A good run at Sunderland may be the making of him.

Agree0 Disagree0

All I want from the players is 100% effort. And you can see that Borini is desperate to make the grade.
I do agree with Harry though in that once you are loaned out and over the age of 21 then it basically means that you have to do something special on loan to get back in.
It's up to Borini, if he smashes in 15 goals for Sunderland then we would be silly to let him go.
I totally disagree about Allen though. Players who don't give the ball away are vital in today's game and he brings that to Liverpool.

Particularly impressed with Mignolet early season and the capture of Sakho!

Morning All,

Very pleased with our business this window. The defence looks as good as anyone’s in the league now and in Sakho, I think we finally have the aggressive, commanding CB we have so badly needed. I believe he can also play a bit too. Plus he has pace so now we can hopefully push up a little higher and really implement our pressing game.

Slight concern, and do mean only slight they we may just not quite have enough goals but Suarez to come back and hopefully Moses can break into double figures too. Provided we are right in the mix come January then this could always be addressed then with some proven quality and the lure of potential CL football.

I think BR is really getting his stamp on the team now and I for one I am very excited to watch us grow further as the season progresses. And if anyone did doubt Brendon’s balls, check out the brown, corduroy number he was wearing last night at Shankley 100th celebration! Have to be confident to wear that believe me!

Lastly, thanks to the Eds for all their hard work over the summer as well as all the contributions from my fellow reds. Let’s make this a season to remember.

A quick look at the other sites should be a reminder of how far we've come in a year. Seems to be the only positive Page.

Man United are calling for the removal of yonks plus there are posts that discuss murder as the one ly method of being owned responsibly - sounds familiar. Some nonsense about an unqualified manager and transition.

Chelsea discuss a significant lack of firepower - also familiar.

Gunners discuss buying players they don't need and a short supply of strikers. Where have we seen that posted before?

Spurs are focused on needing to gel - again, more of what we heard last year.

Seems funny to me that the same things supporters of our rivals found funny about our situation last year are what they are living with this year. They left the stove on just to rush over and laugh about how our house burned down.

we have relatievly good fixture till octobor end and If we find ourself in top 4 by december, we could see a new LW coming in.
Luis suarez still a Liverpool player and would be here for another 3 more good years since We would be playing CL next season.
Bale would 100% fale at real. and could see a tussle leaving ronaldo out pretty soon. With ozil moving out and Only Isco as their No.10, They would struggle on pithc. But As usual would do well off the pitch.
Mezut Ozil has been the signing of the window.

So, Tiago Ilori; CB, RB and quite possibly CDM cover for Lucas. very young still but he certainly seems to have the game intelligence, calmness in possession, passing range and comfort, enough strength, good tackling without going to ground, and no shortage of recovery speed to excel at defensive midfield.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I really hope that we don't start messing with his position. he could be as big as Thiago Silva in my opinion. In a few years I imagine the plan is for him to play alongside Sakho with McLaughlin at right back hopefully.

Anyone else reckon were good with a 5-3-2 formation, team of top class defenders.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree mate. Maybe that is why BR didn't bring in cover for Lucas. If lucas ain't playing, we could simply play 3 centre backs (Agger, Toure and Sakho) with Agger pushing forward occasionally to help out Hendo and Stevie G. Would make us more solid at the back and also allow the full backs to express themselves higher up the pitch.

Agree0 Disagree0

Toure is infact a DM not a true CB. He used to play DM often while he was playing for Arsenal. He is a very good DM. I am sure BR will use him to cover for Lucas/Gerard

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Rodgers' interview confirmed what I thought that he's not being brought in to play RCB and partner Agger. 3-4-3 or 3-4-1-2 suits me.

This transfer window has highlighted how correct Ozone et al were regarding FSG ownership deficiencies. Their attempt to asset-strip the club fell flat on its face when they couldn't resist the urge to splash out on pricey world-class players last weekend and they were given every opportunity to flog Suarez for over 40m, yet refused to let go. John Henry's perimeter landscaping is in desperate need since there has been little input to his hedge fund this summer. Wholly disappointing. Christ, they'll be building a stadium next.

Anyway, I hope he gets the head down and rips up defences and scores bucket loads of goals, no drama on or of the pitch and that he's happy. You never know he might actually changd his mind and think his team mates are actually good enough and want to stay. Welcome back to Anfield Luis.

On a funnier note. What about the men in black over in Spain for Utd trying to do a deal. What a complete cock up. Hilarious in my opinion and all they ended up with was a big lumox with big hair. Well at least that will give them something to moan about. Sounds a bit like us last Summer? Cheers.

I feel how well we perform this season would be entirely reliant on BR's confidence in his own ability. He has a fantastic Ideology of attacking play, but seems to lack confidence in himself halfway through and tends to retreat and play it safe after dominating for the first half of a game. Its worked so far, so good management on his part especially since we lack experienced wingers/forwards for now. But I do feel that if we are to progress on this path of resurrection, BR would require a level of arrogance and higher belief in his own system and style of play so to carry it right through 90 minutes in the way Barcelona did under Guardiola. At this point we don't have those attacking players yet, but once we qualify for Europe it should make that kind of quality accessable, and we can build.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Even the way he he raised his hands for the goal this weekend. Was that deliberate?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think your only half right m8 its not the confidence of the manager its the experienced players like gerrard they are used to falling deep when in the lead and that ideology needs to change so to blame the manager is a bit, I spoke of this with mates when watching the matches and they now agree with me, but this is just my opinion, btw I think we just had our best transfer window for a long time

Agree0 Disagree0

Rodgers is approach is not to sit deep but to keep the ball. He was shouting it for the whole second half, we just weren't doing it. I think its the players nerves more than Rogers'

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Rodgers wants the possession game to work for 90mins but in the first few games of the season it's always a bit of a lottery. Match fitness is not quite there (friendlies are not the same as PL intensity), new players etc. In our games we have done so well in the first half that the opposition manager would have torn strips off his players at half time and we haven't had the game management or the fitness/desire/decision making to keep making the angles for the easy pass to get through their extra push. I believe we are 10 or 15mins away from getting the second half right. A good start to establish our possession in the second period would break most opposition and have them questioning whether to press or drop off or test their conditioning to keep trying to press.

What this transfer window showed most is how a transfer window could work in the future regarding season long loan deals.

Expect with the financial fair play to see the much more often in the future.

We have Cissohko and Moses with Borini out on loan. Arsenal have Viviano and were trying desperately hard to get Ba. Lukaku went to Everton and Unuted nearly signed Coentrao.

The reasons these will be more common is that the club can get a fee and potentially the player will perform well and either increase in value or become a first team player.

If Cissohko is a success then we will sign him which is a no risk way of signing players.

I remember a few years ago Napoli loaned Cavani from Palermo with a option to buy if 12m. After having an incredible time the 12m was a steal when he could have commanded 30 million to another club.

Loans are no risk deals.

Amazing the change in tone in a few days.

I have thought since day one that we have a manager of huge potential.

I admire his ability to impose his style of management upon this great club and change personnel within financial discipline so effectively.

Time will tell but my feeling is that we have perhaps the best young manager out there in EPL for sure.

At least he has bought players to suit his imposed system. AVB has had good players bought at inflated cost and they will have to adapt to what he wants of them.

Worth a few points for sure as is MCFC's radical change and Moyes's uncertain start.

A few big surprises could be on the cards this season!

Got to say very happy with the additions during the transfer window. Seriously on paper I think we have quite possibly the strongest defence in the Premier League.

On another note, have people looked at the fixture list.

Swansea A
Southampton H
Sunderland A
C Palace H
Newcastle A
West Brom H

That takes us to the end of October with the following game Arsenal at the Emirates. Now I don't want to get too carried away with the recent results but c'mon, there is no reason why we shouldn't come out of the fixtures with 14/15 pts easily.

Not felt this good about the team for a few seasons, BR has done a cracking job of moving on people who just weren't cut out to be playing for the club and we now actually have some decent cover for the inevitable injuries that will will come across during the season.

ChrisE

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If we can get that many. Then we could be on to something speial. One game at time, tho.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets not get carried away - if the team carry on working hard and try and win each game as it come up until he Emirates game we can go there and be happy with a draw.
I have said before that the absence of Europa league football will be a positive for us this season in the PL

Agree0 Disagree0

Chrise I've been analyzing the fixtures and feel the same way 14 to 15 points from a total of 18 in the next 6 is quite possible.

And if we have say 24 points from 9 games going to emirate we'll be confident enough to go for a win not a draw. Confidence can do a lot for a team and players

But let's not jinx it. One game at a time bring on Swansea and we'll think about it after that.

Next six games are:
swansea, southampton, sunderland, palace, newcastle and west brom

I reckon we can and need to get at least 14 of the available 18 points. That is 4 wins and 2 draws.

That will put us sitting at at least 23 points after 9 games.

Whats the betting that the headlines tomorrow will be 'Fellaini signs in Fergie time' or 'Suarez joining Madrid in 12 months'
I look forward to another 12 months of harrassment of Suarez by the unbiased UK press.
ps seriously think United are on a slippery slope. Moyes just not good enough i'm afraid. tumbleweed ( not!)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That's the worst outcome of this otherwise brilliant transfer window for me- the constant Suarez questions.

Will he shake hands at the League Cup game? Will he leave in January? Is he going to get banned again? Etc, etc. So would have liked to have gotten rid of that distraction and gotten in someone (or a couple of someones) who perhaps would have made a more positive contribution to the cause.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fully agree RDL but if we never got an offer worth his value in our eyes, then so be it. We have an amazing striker who is capable of the sublime (and the ridiculous, of course). I was sure he was going to Madrid. Is there any confirmation of a new contract for Suarez as suggested? Or is that an area to avoid this early after the madness? ps A sincere thanks to the Eds, for doing what you do.

Very, very pleased with the depth we have in defence, especially since Skrtel is staying. It's a great base to build from for a sustained challenge for CL places and good cup runs.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They did a good job this window, strengthened defence and attack, kept Suarez and all within sensible means.
Genuinely think Sakho can be a world class talent and look forward to him steam rollering the opponents!
As for up front, Coutinho, Suarez, Sturridge, Moses, Aspas(and Sterling, Ibe and Alberto!) that's better than we have had as a unit for years.
John W Henry played the right game with Suarez and we kept a world class player.
I think this transfer window and 9 points out of 9 bodes well!

Anyone else think that Ozi's move to Arsenal is being overrated? I know this doesn't have anything to do with us apart from the fact they will be a rival but imo he is the type of player they least need.

They have Cazorla, Rosicky, Ramsey for that role and creating chances isn't their problem really. A couple of additions in defence/a solid midfielder and another forward were surely what they needed more

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Does seem a tad strange to chase strikers all summer and then end up with an attacking midfielder (albeit a very good one). Not like Cazorla was awful so, no, I don't really get it either.

Agree0 Disagree0

Overrated? Are you serious?

The guy is genuinely world-class and a welcome addition to the Premiership.

I wish he'd come to Utd, but as a football fan, I can't wait to watch him every week.

Your comment just sounds churlish, mate.

If you think Rosicky and Ramsay are good enough, then fair enough, but I know who I'd rather have in my team. {Ed001's Note - Rosicky is excellent, but Ozil is a whole different level. They may not have needed him, but if you get a chance to sign a player that good, you have to be an idiot to pass it up! Which begs the question, why did Moyes not sign him, when he wanted to join United and United need his type of creativity??}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think their fans would have revolted if they didn't sign anyone.
It will be interesting to see their attendance and season ticket sales so far this season.
It is only through the prism of 'pleasing the fans' that Ozil's transfer can be best understood.
He is a great player. But their team has bigger issues, the least of which is a player of Ozil's mold.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozil is a deadly player and in a team which play football like Arsenal he will be a perfect fit. Probably the signing of the transfer window, anyone saying he is over rated, not as good as people say, etc etc knows nothing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozil is by no means overrated. He is insanely good. I just feel the price is over the odds, IMO but still a very good player in a fluid system. We`ll see what happens. As for Moyes, he can`t have wanted Ozil because he won`t fit his dreadful hoof-and-hope system. He couldn`t recognize a great player if he stood up and slapped him. LOL!

Agree0 Disagree0

Nothing overrated about Ozil.

This guy will take Arsenal to the next level. Some teams are going to get ripped to pieces.

But Arsenal did not really address their biggest weakness - defending. Although Flamini will help.

Agree0 Disagree0

You need to READ THE POST PROPERLY.

I said the signing was overrated not the player - meaning he will not improve their 1st 11 as much as a world class striker would or a couple of defenders.

He is pure class but is Arsenal's problem creating chances? No it's putting them away and being more solid at the back.

Jeez, read properly.

What do people think of Borini on loan? I thought he just had bad luck last year, with all the injuries. I thought he might have a role to play this season, perhaps as an impact player off the bench. I realize we have Aspas and Moses but, Aspas may take a while to settle and I guess I as expecting Ibe or Sterling to go out on loan before Borini. Is he already surplus to requirements? Seems u likely that BR wouldn't see him in the plans while he just paid good money for him a year ago.

I am happy with our transfer business. We clearly need another forward and a midfielder, but we have definitely strengthened. Would have been nice to add Yarmolenko, but I think a frint line of Suarez, Sturridge, Coutinho and Moses will produce a lot of goals, and our defence is looking real strong. We should really be up for top 4 challenge this year

He needs the game time, so the loan could be very good for him.
On the other hand, Paolo di Canio is not someone I would trust with the. development of my youth

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Sep 2013 08:56:37
This could turn in to a thread that needs to go considering a number of things so I'll see if I can cross the line first:

Those Di Canio Youth uniforms are so cute, and I'm happy Borini will be educated in Di Canio's ways. It gives the young lad a great opportunity to belong to a group. Hopefully Borini scores so often that his knife celebration becomes a symbol for the whole group. Best case scenario: he winds up a success internationally.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think a loan is a near perfect idea. Give him games, to get a chance to adapt to the speed. Get some confidence. Or maybe neither. He just isn't going to get the minutes with us to do decide either.
