LS should take a look at Michael Owen, he got all he wished for, look what happened next . I feel we are on the verge of something special, don't get of the train at Edge Hill Louis, stay on and finish your journey . The rewards you seek will come .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think he should look in mirror at himself to see wot kind of man he sees I am not on about him chasing his dreams ie Real Madrid but arsenal for few extra games a year little bit more money he don't need or is he the kind that turns his back on people that helped him when he was down and out not just once and still give him a open ticket to there Hearts only then can he judge himself and make his next step

just my opinion. nothing more.

Saurez does have his moments of brilliance. but when playing. he becomes a focal point. all our balls in the final third has to pass by him and he tends to lose possession or misplace a pass quite a lot.
if he's marked well by opposition, no one else score. we just keep on trying to pass the ball to him

in his absence, we have more diversity in our game play. dare to say more creativity. goals come from different player.

all in all, to wrap things up. replacing saurez with a good finisher, not necessary a creative forward, might be a step forward in fact. plus the extra cash can be used to improve some other positions

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I do agree with you on that mate, we do seem to have more creativity when he's not there but the other thing is when we don't play well he is the player that can make something from nothing.

I don't think its the end of the world if we lose Suarez but at the same time I would'nt mind keeping him because of his moments of brilliance. The way I think of it is, if we sell him we should get a good fee for him and invest in the squad but wisely, if we keep him we have a great player in our squad so its really a win win situation providing we get a good price for him and don't sell to a rival.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree 100%. He becomes a Target man, not the kind that holds the ball up bringing others into the game but the kind that thinks he's a one man team, as he gets the ball he turns and runs at the defence everytime and doesn't bring the other attackers into play. I don't believe that it is how BR wants to play but I think its in the other players' subconcious that he has great ability, so pass to him, and off he goes on another slalom run. Maybe that's why our movement looks so good without him. The other players see no point in making supportive runs forward because he wants to do it on his own. Without him the boys play like a team. Awesome to watch. Top four is a given. I think we can win the title. Considering the changes in management and state of the other big teams. This season is our best chance if we keep it up. Honestly can't picture anyone scoring a goal against our first team.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Although I think if he goes we will be short on creative options, I would like to see a winger with some creativity and a decent finisher. I think those two players would be able to cover Suarez's goals and provide more options.

Eds and reds,
If Liverpool were to buy Diego Costa do you expect him to play as a centre forward or a left wing-forward for Liverpool? {Ed002's Note - Flexibility is the key.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes, he will play LW or CF or RW. just as he does for Ath Madrid.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't really think we have any particular centre forwards anymore now. front 3 don't stay the same anymore. whoever we buy now, will just be a forward. only downing from what I've seen stays on the right most of the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Costa is a live wire he is a natural winner yes he can be a dirty player and is short tempered who likes to tease the opposition but who doesn't?

If he joins then i'm glad as he scored 20 goals in 44 games last season and created 8 assists that's not bad at all and as Rodgers highlighted earlier in the transfer market he said he wants to add 20 goals to the team and Costa will add that regardless to what happens with Suarez. And his versatility is good as he can play comfortable across the the front 3.

Agree0 Disagree0

Downing forward? he just doesn't have any edge in his game, not a forward eather? winger hm maybee, not even a half decent player, with his speed he should of run over players, but no no, has no confidence

Hi all, I know friendlies aren't much to go by but how refreshing is it to not have let a goal in yet? I just hope that if Skrtel goes we get Alderweireld, he looks like a good prospect and confident with the ball.

I think Iago Aspas is going to be a great buy from BR. In all honesty I didn't know much about him before we signed him but I can't wait to see more of him this season. Since Kuyt left we have lacked a 2nd/3rd striker who can chip in with 10-15 goals a season and I think he is very much capable of that this year. Still think we need 1-2 more signings (as keep being mentioned by BR and SG) but I haven't been this optimistic for a new season for years! Just like Stevie says he can't wait to get started. Come on Reds let's give the top 4 a good go and get to Wembley too ;)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Looks like a very good prospect and a team player. Wish him luck this season especially in front of goal

Also have not posted much in a while and will happily join the line to thank the Eds for sorting the site.

On LS he is obviously going and the clubs stance on getting value is both refreshing and laudable. My personal view on the signings and the burgeoning talent of sterling ibe and a fully fit Lucas is like 3 more. Very exited by the the quality of football we may play the increasing depth of the squad leadership of the pitch.

Finally particularly Eds 1 & 2 is Ed 3 under the patio with Ed 4 or worse just on other clubs sites?

Hey guys love the new set up and registration for answers style, I was just thinking that now I hope LFC/FSG/BR are now looking at our posts as before I was embarrassed at the thought of troublemakers venting frustrations and negativity when thinking they were seeing what the fans were currently thinking.

Eds how often does a LFC associated look at these sites and do you ever receive feedback? Was just wondering cheers {Ed002's Note - They have regular reports based on research by a separate company - it was weekly and guess it probably still is.}

Oh dear, did anyone else hear Commoli on Five live or Talkrubbish?.
Quite clearly hasn't a clue and is very bitter, apparently he knew we couldn't keep our best players and we're only competing for top 8. Oh dear the man has no idea.
I really want us to use this season to kick on and prove everyone wrong, from the Spurs fans who claim we're a little club to the media people who believe we're not going to get top four,
Well. Bring it on

Liverpool are poised to complete the signing of Athletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, a deal is all but done after the Liverpool's bid triggered Costa's release clause and the two sides are set to meet to complete the move tomorrow. The move will apparently pave the way for Luis Suarez's exit, but only once Liverpool receive a bid they are happy with, refusing to allow the Uruguayan to leave on the cheap.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I hope so. 20 million is the starting point for more than decent players in the market today (HM for example) so if we can get him, he`ll give us another style especially with his aerial ability which is quite good. He can also shoot with both feet which is always a plus

Suarez expected to stay, BR confident he will, the reception he got at yesterdays match just shows how much the club and fans love him as a player, don't GO!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes he got a great reception, its a pity that he did not even give a wave or something to the supporters who have backed him,
maybe this is because he knows that BR is bossing his transfer out, and he goes when Liverpool FC say so, at the best price, yes he is a great player, but way too much baggage for me .
sell him and buy two quality players .

Agree0 Disagree0

He wants out. He has dragged the club's name in mud. He has given countless interviews saying he wants out. He is banned for 6 games. No matter what you think of it, biting Ivanovic and the Ezra thing dragged the club's reputation through the mud.

He should be sold. The club is bigger than him.

You need to get over him.

Hi eds first post here, addictive site.I don't think Suarez will put in transfer request to engineer move to Arsenal, as I that might ruin any chance he has of RM coming in for him. Would you agree. Secondly, has Liverpool put any sort of deadline on Suarezgong or staying. thanks Eds {Ed002's Note - The transfer request would not put any move to RM at risk - and I don't know of any timescales.}

Hi ed's, love the site I'm on here day and night, do you think sturridge could be back involved for the celtic match? And any chance we might ask for xabi back as part of any possible Suarez deal? {Ed002's Note - I don't know about Sturridge. Liverpool could ask about Alonso, but I don't know if the will.}

If suarez had any thought of joining arsenal. Then this weekend should help make his mind up. Coming joint 4th in their own tournament with porto and galatasary above them is a bit shameful.
Apart from playing in the champions league (they won't get much further than the 2nd round proper) they have the same things to offer as Liverpool. Unless they pull out 3 top buys in the next 4 weeks then we have a team to easily compete with them this season. Imo

Ynwa

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The Gunners do have a knack for nipping 4th spots.

Agree0 Disagree0

No, he'll love it. When the home fans at Arsenal boo their side off against Napoli in a pre-season game - at half time. Suarez will have a great time and fit right in.

Agree0 Disagree0

The very thought that arsenal think that they are bigger than Liverpool is delusion at its finest. The club haven`t got a pot to piss in for almost a decade and all they do is run their mouths about the UCL that they don`t have a chance in hell of competing in not to talk of winning. Pathetic club with an obsolete manager and deluded fans. Arsenal and Suarez deserve each other in the end.

Evening Eds
I'm all legit and logged in, never felt a thing.
Some very promising signs at the match yesterday. Liked the look of Aspas although a bit on the lightweight side. Lucas was awesome as usual. Joe Allen nearing his early season form of last year. Koulo, well, big and commanding, great signing. Stevie looked in great shape. Coutinho, great player with great touch. Pity about LS, he doesn't deserve the support the city, the club and the fans have given him.
Looking forward to the season, let's hope we get a couple more in soon and I think we're in for a great season.

Its kind of odd to hear Commoli saying that Liverpool is a top eight side and he knew it would be hard for Liverpool to keep top players. Because of his illogical concepts millions of euros were wasted and we are still not in top four. Recently he was also trying to justify the signings made during his tenure.
Ed's is Commoli employed at any club? {Ed002's Note - No. He has been doing a little consultancy.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

04 Aug 2013 20:12:45
I really hope I am wrong to think this but I can't help but think that our squad/first team is weaker now than last season! We have lost reina, carragher and soon to be skrtl and Suarez and replaced them with relatively un proven premier league players. Surely we need at least two 25 million pound players to compete with the top four?What does everyone think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Look at our attacking players
Saurez borini Sturridge ibe Downing coutinho sterling aspas Alberto Gerrard Henderson we've replaced Carragher with toure mignolet replaced Reina, think we are just short on left back and central defence then possibly replacement of Saurez if leaves but Costa possibly lined up! Future looks good! :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

I really hate the notion that £25m guarantees quality. We could spend that bringing in Titus Bramble buy he'll still be crap.

Agree0 Disagree0

So because a player costs 25million that would be our team sorted? Do you know anything about football? Who was swanseas best player last year and how much did he cost? Chelsea spent quite a lot on hazard and oscar last year and they were poor(especially oscar) if you compared it by how much they cost. that's why we don't compare it that way. The money in someway is irrelevant.

Agree0 Disagree0

Coutinho and Sturridge are both class players, and Mignolet is one of best keepers around. Weve also got Toure who is a decent replacement for Carra and he's got that winning mentality, along with Stevie, Agger, Lucas, Johnson. all top players

Some of the young guys are incredible eg Sterling, Ibe, Wisdom, Kelly, Aspas, Allen, Hendo.
We are looking good, a few more quality signings and were ready.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Toure is a more than capable replacement for Carragher. Reina has been poor for two seasons now and if you listened to the manager saying he wanted players who were hungry with a winning mentality, then maybe he felt Reina didn't promote this philosophy any longer. Besides Mignolet is an excellent goalkeeper on half the wages, sentiment aside it was decisive on BR's part and only time will tell if a good decision. Skrtel and Suarez haven't gone anywhere yet, but admitedley Suarez is going to be nigh on impossible to replace one on one, but if the cash is reinvested wisely into the team then who's to say we won't be a better team from it? And if Skrtel goes and is replaced with Papa then I feel this will certainly be an improvement. Skrtel has all the attributes to be a top class defender but is sadlt let down by his poor decision making on the pitch. Onwards and upwards!

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with Gerrard. If we lose Suarez we won't get top 4. If we sell him to Arsenal we won't get top 4 for the next 3/4 seasons. We should add to what we have and get rid of the poor players replacing them with top players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Disagree mate, I think we have a far stronger squad with a hungry will to win attitude. about them . Can't see where the 25 mi each player l comes into it, sooner have another Sturidge and Coutinho myself and save 30 mil .

Agree0 Disagree0

I am sure that Stevie G was just trying to convince Suarez to stay, at least when he does go, everyone will say that we backed and supported him, even when he started to do a torres, as he is now .

Agree0 Disagree0

Disagree completely. We looked a tad bit better than a shambles last pre-season (no fluidity, little movement, much confusion, a 1-1 tie against Toronto FC, losing to Roma 2-1, etc) and this pre-season we look a million miles better. For that alone I think the team is vastly improved versus the same time last year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good evening fellow reds and edds been readin banter for a while just registered. Having watched pre season so far really happy with the style of the team. Fairly happy with the way the new players have performed so far. I think we all know that things will be tougher in the premiership but optimistic. Suarez I know has been done to death. Any of the edds think we could expect him to perform for us til January .by then he will have served his serspension won't be cup tied in Europe and with good performances we could look to sell to a champions league team? Opinions? {Ed002's Note - I don't see any plan for January with Suarez. It would, probably, be a last resort.}

Eds. Not based on rumour just my considered option. I think Suarez will end up I Madrid. But not at Real.
Ath Madrid curently have a met spend of around -50 mil euros, are in the champions league and have yet to make a "Marquee" signkng to replace Falco. LFC are also interested in Costa and may accept cash + player (Costa+£25) for instance. Arsenal mis out on Suarez, LFC get a good deal and Athletico replace Falco and Suarez get his wish of champs league. Everyones a winner but the Gunners.
What do you think?? {Ed002's Note - Atletico declared an interest in Suarez a long time back, However, they only owned a portion of Falcao and any major purchase would require third party investment. Even though AM have interest from either Doyen Sports Investments or Quality Sports as a third party financer, they have done nothing more in terms of an approach for the player.}

I agree mate! Can't wait for this season to kick off. I remember last summer staying up till nearly 4am to watch Liverpool play at Fenway Park in the states and was disappointed with our pre-season form. This summer however has been a different story. I've enjoyed every minute of each game, a fair share of goals and none conceded and what can we say about Coutinho other than little genius! Bring on 13/14!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes agree, feeling much more positive this time, as regards to our pre-season, just look at our clean sheets, think we shipped in quite a few goals this time last year, then got beaten 3 0 first game away to west brom, when we very slow off the mark, its so different this time .

for suarez to get the reception he had yesterday, for the arm around the shoulder from carragher the great, to witness the reception "god" recieved and to witness what a spectacle gerrard had from 45000 worshippers I ask myself one thing "why wouldn't you stay 1 more year!" ill never understand it! it should have been the eye opener he needed. if your reading mr suarez, don't do what torres and owen did because the money and trophies they won will never compinsate for being labeled a "legend" by any club let alone our one!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That's the sort of post that really annoys me - Fowler left Liverpool by choice at the age of 27 for 12 million because he was dropped by Houllier and could no longer get in the side ahead of Heskey and Owen - at the time he had played about 330 games and scored 170 odd goals, McManaman is still revered by some LFC fans for some reason after leaving on a Bosman, which is something ALL Liverpool fans should be annoyed about.
Ill informed fans berate Michael Owen because he left ( organised by Parry without Owens knowledge ) at the age of 24 after scoring nearly 160 goals in less than 300 appearances. They got about the same price for Owen ( and 12 million more than we got for McManaman ).
Can someone explain to me why Fowler is called a legend after leaving because he couldn't get a game, and Michael is called a traitor, even though he had a better goals per game ration than Fowler.
I am sure some blinkered people will have a go, but I am speaking from a position of knowledge wrt the Real Madrid transfer.

Fowler left for first team football, never slagged the club off publicly and always gave his all.
Owen jumped ship when we needed him and had given us plenty of reasons to dislike him.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Aug 2013 09:17:10
I think the main reason is because Owen joined Man United

Fowler has played for a number of teams, but has always made his love of Liverpool known - not least after Istanbul when he famously taunted Man United after scoring against them when he was at (I think) City.

Owen, given that he did not grow up on the streets of Liverpool and definitely because he played for United will always be less of a fans favourite that homegrown lads who still support the club like Fowler and Gerrard.

I share your frustration with McManaman, I think it was wrong for him to push for a Bosman, but I have no idea how much culpability the club had in allowing his contract to run down. I understand from various biographies etc that Houllier could be a difficult boss who had very specific ideas of how players should behave and this definitely led to an alienation with Fowler, and probably Macca too.

The perception of Owen (whether right or wrong) has been of someone who loves the money more than having any particular loyalty. Whereas Fowler has taken care of business interests (we all live in a Robbie Fowler house. etc) and is still around for the sheer love of the game. He always has played the game like a kid which is both endearing and generates a lot of loyalty towards him.

Final point, and quite a subjective one, but I also believe that Fowler was blessed with a lot more talent and creative nous than Owen. Owen had his speed and, imho, little else. I think if Fowler had been born even 5 years later, and was able to get along with the training and fitness regimes we have now, he would still be playing, at a similar age (if he was 5 years younger!) to Gerrard and banging in 20+ goals a season for us, with much fewer of the injuries he suffered through his career.

Agree0 Disagree0

Owens is everything that's wrong with most modern day players! jumps ship, puts england before us, slags the club off and sits on the bench for whiskey nose! I wouldn't see gerrard or carragher do that hence why they'll go down as club legends and owens a NOBODY!

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe because he went to united, maybe its because he will write for that paper.

Hi Eds, just registered and loving your site :), just curious do you know of anyone we are definitely trying to offload, I mean surely Spearing, Borini, Assaidi and downing can be removed from the squad with very little damage to our ambitions and also if you know of any interest in lavezzi or Reus.

Cheers {Ed002's Note - Assaidi will return to the Netherlands I think. Spearing is looking for someone that suits him - Bolton perhaps. Suarez will be leaving.}

Hello Eds,
wanted to know is the Aly Cissokho deal close to being done or is just at negotiations stage?
When we were first interested, a Valencia reporter was mentioning that they are the ones making it difficult for us to sign Aly as they are angry with us for signing that Pedro Chirivilla lad. {Ed002's Note - I have explained what I know, nothing has changed since.}

"C'mon Liverpool!"

Believable0 Unbelievable0

04 Aug 2013 18:19:10
I have heard that Liverpool have some people over in Madrid today that are going to be talking Atletico and Real Madrid.

I have heard that Diego Costa wants to move because he is not guaranteed to start, now that they have bought Baptistao and Villa. Atletico played a lot as 4-5-1 last season with Costa playing wide left or wide right supplying Falcao. typical goal was during the copa del rey game against Sevilla.

Villa is nailed on as a starter as it was the only reason he moved from Barca. Therefore the expectation is that Atletico will need to play a higher line than last season as Villa is not as quick as he used to be and Baptistao is more of a target man. last season atletico played a much more counter attacking game, very much how they beat Chelsea in the Super cup.

Costa is also one of the lowest paid first team players at Atletico. they have also loaned him, or sold him when they felt like it.

He is a player that will give 110% on the pitch. He is mouthy and gets booked a lot for back chatting and does wind Up the opposition a huge amount. However, he takes a huge amount of physical and verbal abuse and rarely reacts. Just look at his reaction after Amaya of Betis spits in his face.

He is a very good finisher but his also a very good outlet for a team as well. And boy is he fast, he has good technique and provides a good amount of assists. He would be a great addition as one of the wider forwards in a 4-3-3 or in a 4-2-3-1. He dives around a lot but when he needs to be he is as strong as an ox.

As an Atletico season tickert holder he is my favourite player in the league as he has a bit of the devil about him. I will be sorry to see him go. As a life long Liverpool supporter, I will be ecstatic to see him arrive at anfield.

Plus one other thing, he is genuinely nice guy. He has never whined about the way Atletico have messed him about. He genuinely loves his football. He also has done a lot of work in Madrid for the South American immigrant families that are have a genuinely horrendous time due to the recession. I have seen him a number of times around Madrid and he always seems genuinely bemused by the attention he gets.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Nice, insightful post. Sounds like a great addition, if we can get him. Thanks for posting.

Great then. I think if we give sturridge the right mindset and confidence, he`ll really shine. My only worries are his health and if he can be a team player like Aspas and the rest. Suarez is not a team player that`s why we play better without him.

Can't believe some Arsenal fans. They call Drogba 'A diver' for scoring two goals against them yet they are happy to welcome Suarez who they called 'a diving, racist, biting player' last season!
I hope Suarez have watched the Emirates Cup lol!

Ed's top work on the new format really feel the positive vibes now rather than the slating. On that note any news on LS haha just kidding.
Think that with Lucas fit and pre season behind him and patrolling in front of the back four we look much more assured defensively. Costa to me looks like a good shout if we could get him overall pleased with the rebuilding work we have done so far can't wait for start of prem now.

Coutinho looked much more at home playing centrally in the 2nd half yesterday. I know Brendan likes his players to be versatile but I hope, and am sure the manager realises, we have to get this boy on the ball as much as possible. For me that means playing him CAM, especially at home!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree, don't know what good putting allen at cam and cooutinho at left mid does, first half he was barely on the ball

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree. We have to get him on the ball as much as we can. He makes things happen. On the other hand, Joe Allen is having a blinder this pre-season. But he has to sharpen his finishing if he`s going to thrive in that position.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2013 17:53:55
In my opinion I think suarez actually puts a massive weight of pressure on the team. Watching on Gerard's testomonial we became very disjointed and he seems to scream at players when they misplace a pass.

I know personally I would be quite nervous when passing the ball because if it's a misplaced pass you've got suarez screaming at you! If you look at the arsenal squad they don't have any out standing players but they work well as a squad.

Tbh I really would rather suarez gone and use the funds on a quality defender and another attacking player then I would be very happy! Very excited for the new season!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree with this post.
When he is on the field, everything seems to go through him. And it should be remembered that he misses about 6 chances for every goal he scores.
So sell the guy.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with this. I know Suarez is a great footballer, but we did well without him towards the end of the season. The team seems more fluid when he's not there.

Cissohko is good going forward but is worse than Enrique at defending.

Coentrao is a good player, but he is a nightmare to manage as he really wants to be back in Lisbon. He has been fined a lot for arriving back late from excursions back to Lisbon from Madrid. He has also fought with a number of his colleagues at the club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Haha so they couldn't order another meal/dish? The person just didn't want to be there. Torres did the same when he was sulking, Gerrard had to force him to engage in team bonding activities. I had not heard of Aspas or Alberto before they signed, had heard of HM, but couldn't really remember anything about him, not seen this Costa fella play before, and only saw Bernard for the first time the other week. I can't figure out why anyone would either feel that Aspas or Alberto were bad buys, or that we 'missed out' on HM or Bernard, or whoever, if nobody even knew about them before we were 'linked' to them by some random story. We just need to have trust in the club and managers, see what comes in and who goes out, and reserve any judgements until after Christmas. I don't give a sh*t if I've never heard of them before - I had never seen Coutinho play before he signed, and look what a diamond he has turned out to be. At the very least we have some special talent in Ibe and Sterling to look forward to. People should relax a little bit and let it all unfold. Fewer ulcers and sleepless nights.

Big up Stevie G, what a man.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree with you Nick.
Going back a fair bit we tended to invest in lower league players and bring them through.
We bought a couple of promising players from Scunthorpe (Keegan & Clemence) for not much and they turned out OK. Alec Lindsay from Bury for about £60k, who turned out to be one of those wonderfully accomplished full backs that graced the Liverpool shirt. He had one hell of a shot on him too.
We don't need to be spending mega bucks, just make sure we get the right player. (Insights into the blindingly obvious, I know - but spending 35 Million on a player is no guarantee of success). I really do wish people would stop this 'splash the cash' mullarky.

Hello fellow kopites,
I reckon its pretty clear for sometime now that Suarez will be leaving LFC. We just have to hope its abroad and not AFC. What according to you would be the best way to replace him in the squad i.e his goals and creativity for the money say 45M pounds we get for him?
I feel we would need 2 attackers. From those linked we should use the 40M to buy Diego Costa and one of Arda Turan /Konoplyanka /Bernard. Then use the rest of the money added with the possible sales of Skrtel, Downing, Coates, Spearing and Assaidi to buy Papadopoulos.

Anybody else reckon we will have a much better squad with him going than staying albeit is the money is spent wisely.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think selling him is the right thing to do, reinvesting the cash throughout the team will do wonders for us. I too hope he goes abroard but if he does go to Arsenal I hope Liverpool take all of their transfer budget and leave them skint. If they are that desperate to land him let them pay a ridiculous amount.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not trying to be contrary, but Costa + one of Turan/Konoplyanka/Bernard would probably cost closer to £50M alone. One of the 4 perhaps makes sense, but two I think would be unusual. Hope you're right and I'm wrong though as I would love to see what you say happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

How the hell can your squad improve by selling one of the current best players in the world - the squad will be weaker without him, that is plainly obvious.

Agree0 Disagree0

I reckon/feel 40M will be enough to get 2. Costa would at best cost around 21M and the rest 2 (not sure on Konoplyanka) are valued at around 20M pounds each by their clubs.

and John B, I seriously feel we will be in a much stronger position throughout from defence to attack. More importantly we will not have a player missing around 6 games per season due to suspension nor will the club have to go out and offer him unnecessary support in hope he doesn't feel unwanted.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Eds, Macca and fellow reds. Do you forsee us putting some sort of time limit on the whole Suarez thing. The thing that worries me is that we only have 4 weeks of the window left and BR stated that he wanted his business done early. I think we've been very shrewd so far but if we lose Suarez right at the last min and it will be an Andy Carroll moment all over again I also think that we still need a LB a CB and a decent forward who would compete week in and out for a starting 11 spot. Your thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree. There has to be a deadline for a deal and an evaluation for him. If it isn`t met, then he stays and plays. BR will not get sucked into any last minute BS like last summer and the Carroll debacle. But we will not be shafted by other clubs (especially Arsenal) just because a player`s unhappy. No club or business is run like that. Suarez will leave on OUR terms because he signed that contract and took all that money. Look what BVB did with Lewandowski.

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post Matt, I think it is only a matter of time before the hard work that LFC have put in starts to pay off both on the pitch and in the bank coffers.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2013 13:37:12
Hey guys just my thought that BR is blossoming really nicely as manager and his philosophy about the way he plays football "death by football" is really starting to take shape on evidence since about jan last year and the incline of improvement is there to see with results. My opinion when BR came in was he's the Liverpool manager ill stand by him always but felt slightly miffed at results (naturally) around December but still kept the faith (as always), the way BR and the club are handling Suarez at the moment is finally showing a united front and solidarity within our club which has been what we've been craving for. Whoever wants fsg out is/was either a troll or a manc stirring up. What's wrong with a tightly sound financial run ship? Or a financially viable run club? NOTHING! I love the "new" look Liverpool, the way we play and BR's public persona and investing in what he believes is the right player for our football club

Well done FSG for having the right frame of mind for picking the right man at the right time for LFC when others wanted the big named manager or somebody who's philosophies have already been successful in the past and are dated, great ownership. Thank you for reading keep up the good work everybody, I think our kops full voice will be back this season

first of all eds great move on getting people to register, been a pleasure to come on here in last few days. well done

secondly now that we seem to be able to have rational discussions on here I wonder what other peoples take on a defensive signing would be.

I for one am a big fan of papadopolus and would be happy if we did sign him BUT I do think we are weaker at left back than at centre half. Obviously still a month to go in the window but making a couple of assumptions that skrtl and coates will go and agger stays then toure and agger will start about 90% of the games barring injury and I think kelly and to a lesser extent wisdom could ably cover that position when needed. that being said I think if we had around 15 mill to spend for papa then we should use that for a top left back and maybe a loan for a decent CB. If we go for a loan for cissokho or melgajero etc that would just give us 2 average left backs, while getting papa would give us 3 top CBs one of which would be wasted on the bench. for me if there is a possibility of getting him I would make a big bid for luke shaw, already as good as enrique and will be a lot better in a year or 2.

obviously all based on conjecture, wether we're even interested in papa? do we have that money to spend? is shaw available/interested? etc etc but just my thoughts. any others welcome :) {Ed002's Note - So sign up yourself then.}

Went to Stevie G's testimonial at the echo arena/bt centre last night, and pretty much every player bar Saurez was in attendance. Make of it what you want, but if he can't be bothered to turn up for a charity event in honor of Gerrard and what he's done for this city than good riddance to him.

We lost Torres and found Saurez to replace him. we'll do the same again.

I understand LFCs position on Suarez, but all this talk about "top 4 is gone without luis!" Is ridiculous. Luis is a one man show, we play better TEAM football without him on the pitch. While I would love to see a happy luis stay, which I doubt he will, I have NO fear of playing arsenal if they manage to get him, just like I had no fear of playing ManU when they got RVP. LFC should hold out for a transfer request, sell him for as much as possible, and move on. I think we have a team hungry for success, not human flesh.

Do the Ed's expect The 1 or 2 quality signings that Rodgers and stevie G have said to be done before that first game?
Thanks all.

The reason this site has been my favourite for years is because it allows fans to have their say whether positive or negative and be open to discussion. Will negative concerns about the club not be printed on here anymore eds?
I hope fans can still voice their opinions because no one wants it to become like all the other sites

I posted this earlier.

I don't think people realise how big a decision the whole selling Suarez deal is. It's far bigger than the sale of Torres as back then we were CL regulars, it's been 4 years now and it's hurt the club both financially and by team strength.

I would be interested to hear people's opinions

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Having Suarez or not will not make us get back into the top 4, didn't help us last year, so why would it now?
I personally think that selling him and using some or all of the money to finance moves for a cb and attacker would be better than keeping Suarez,
The way we clicked as a TEAM last few games of the season and the friendliest so far isn't down to Suarez or any one player but about the 11 on the pitch and the subs bench working for each other, how can Suarez do this when he has acted the way he has.
Suarez will leave ayre Rodgers and FSG saying the right things to get the best price, top 4 will be here soon.

if we do sign diego costa, how big of a gamble do you think he is, considering he will be worth 20+ mil, how much do you guys rate him? he seems like a beast for a winger, no?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree mate looks good, lot of fight in the lad. Think more 14mil mark would be the right price, but with them already selling their main striker this year, they won't let him go for under 20

Hi EDS

Great that you are now getting everyone to register.
This should get rid of the mindless persons that abuse you all and we can have proper discussions.
On another note it is being reported that Aly Cissokho, with the player agreeing terms at Anfield, according to the Shields Gazette.
According to the reports in Spain, Sissokho will move to Merseyside on a one-year loan deal with the option of making the transfer permanent in 12 months' time.

Greetings all /eds,

I just want to add my voice and say that getting folk registered seems to be working & hopefully will deter some of the nutters that give you guys the abuse.

Regarding football . I just am sick of everything being referred back to Rafa, Kenny, Woy Br should judged on his work and I think we can startr doing that .

How much real progress on & off the pitch do you feel we have made since this time last year?

I believe that we have dramatically improved our playing staff, with Sturridge, Coutinho, Aspas, Toure, Mingolet all looking like good additions .Losing Carra, Pepe & Skrtel has left us weaker at the back which was already an area that we needed a bit of improvement in.

I also see the fact that Hendo, Downing have shown great improvement in their level of play as almost like new players in .

I still think that we need a DM in who can provide like for like cover for Lucas as I don't see any replacements who would not be playing out of position.

I see Liverpool starting to have a system that uses the squad well, it does not depend on one or two key players but rather depends of a group functioning effectiveley . Without billions this makes sense to me .

In terms of off the pitch, I understand that the clubs debt has risen, I do however want to point out that FSG have committed significant funds( potentially ) without the prospect of getting a quick return, i.e European run etc. but with BR cutting the wage bill and a pay structure that will hopefully reward success rather than reputation I do see progress.

Remember the abuse BR & FSG got when we missed out on Dempsey? Where is he now?

I know that we are not where we should be and that we need to keep improving, but with what we have got already I think we will be much better than last year.If we sign the players that we do need FW, DCM, CB, I believe that the squad is easily good enough to push for top 4 . Every single top 5 club is having major upheaval in coaching or of playing staff so we may benefit from a few having slow starts . If they do then we will have our chance, as ever Liverpool need to start taking their chances as they will not get any easier to come by in the next few seasons.

Interested to hear what the EDs & other fans think about the last 12 months & whether they feel progress made.

Keep the faith

So the crack seems to be that Suarez is defo leaving then.
Apparently he never pitched up to Gerrard's dinner do afterwards either.
I hope to god that he doesn't go to Arsenal.
Going back to 1970, there has only been one player (Jimmy Carter in 91) that was sold to them.
One player!
And we've only bought two off them in that time as well.
That's nearly in the Manchester United category of must nots.

So that should tell Suarez and the powers-that-be at Liverpool something.

Oh, and btw, sorry to upset the love-in on here, but if and when Suarez goes, that'll be two of our best ever strikers sold during the short watch of FSG.
Food for thought.

The Juicer {Ed002's Note - You really do need to register J.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

04 Aug 2013 14:21:07
What's your point juicer?
Owen was sold, Fowler was sold, Rush was sold. FSG weren't in charge then.
Players come and players go, LFC remains

Agree0 Disagree0

Two of our best strikers ever? I would have to disagree with that statement. Torres was woeful the last 18 months he was with the club. And no one has dragged our club through more filth than Suarez. These two facts alone make them not two of our best. Just another dig at the owners of our great club.

Agree0 Disagree0

What is the relevance of the history between transfers of the two clubs?

Liverpool signed a boss player in Ray Kennedy from the club, so these things do happen. Anyway, I've never been aware of any issues between the two clubs other than the last 3-4 seasons of apparently competing for 4th place, which in truth we've been miles off and Arsenal have been a far more consistent outfit regarding league positions of late.

Money talks mate, and if they offer the asking amount then so be it.

Do you think Utd fans want Rooney to Chelsea?

The answer is simply no, yet that money will be better spent on another player in which the club feel will improve the squad and the same will apply to Liverpool IF any interested parties pay what the club expects for the player.

Yes he's contracted to the club but in a sense Suarez has us by the town-halls so we need to be careful.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't see how its relevant that 2 strikers have left whilst fsg have been the owners both wanted to leave torres sulked and saurez has told any body who will listen that he wants out I can't see what fsg could do in either situation other than to get the best money on offer for both hardly food for thought there not to blame in either situation

Agree0 Disagree0

2 of our best ever strikers were sold because they wanted to leave, it had nothing got to do with FSG. Every penny of the Torres sale was put back into transfers just like I'm sure every penny of Suarez's sale will be also

Agree0 Disagree0

Resale value in its finest Juicer.

Agree0 Disagree0

You can`t blame the owners in regard to Suarez. He doesn't want to be at our great club end of. He doesn`t deserve to wear the red shirt. Even with the reception he got yesterday it was quite clear he has made his mind up. I for one don`t want him or any other player that isn`t going to sweat blood for the cause. Sell him to whoever if they meet the price £55 mill not a penny less if not then jog on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just sell him already. Sell him and get rid of him ASAP.

He has wrought more damage to the club's name and he wants out. So sell him. Sell him yesterday.

Eds, costa is also a winger, and he has been playing there for a while now. Do you think that this player isn't a Suarez replacement because we do need a winger and could he be someone who plays along side Suarez?

Eds, just a question regarding Suarez. I know he's banned for the first six matches of next season, but would he be banned if he moved outside of England to, let's say, Real Madrid?

Also, if he didn't move, would he be allowed play with the reserves in Liverpool?

This site is becoming a bit like a 60's love in.
All very lovely and a welcome feel good atmosphere after a long period of it being dominated by mindless vitriol.
But I would just like to point out that Happy Post Day is over and I think the registration system is designed to stop trolling, not to stop posters with a constructively critical viewpoint of the club.
I would therefore encourage such posters to register and be a part of the discussions.
Otherwise, its going to be like my marriage and I will need to start "swinging" across to the Manchester United pages to inject a little excitement into my relationship with the site. {Ed002's Note - That is fine - we are open to reasoned discussion about most matters - and once we have settled, even perhaps the finances. As the season rolls on, perhaps those that are concerned with the owners will see that they are doing a pretty good job after all, or perhaps others will come around to seeing them as evil hambones. But the plan is to keep the discussions manageable - which should suit everyone.}

It's also a shame to see so much talk about Suarez today, on a day that should have been all about Steven. Especially as it will be a very long time that we see another of his kind at this football club.
Whilst I'm on here, it really does shock me that Ed02 recieves the majority of the abuse, he has been pretty much spot on all Summer, and I for one really appreciate his/her insight. {Ed002's Note - Thanks - we are trying to make it better for all. Even with the better players you still only managed 7th. I think 10th/11th isn't out of the question next season. {Ed002's Note - There is a month to go before the transfer window is closed and the pre-season seems to be going very well. Sometimes in life, illusions can be shattered by a single action. I had two shattered yesterday. Firstly for example, years I have been under the impression that Ed02 was a young lady, only to find out yesterday that she is in fact an old man!

The second illusion that was shattered yesterday was that it is now crystal clear to me that the EDs have been right all along about Suarez. I didn't want it to be true but it is obvious he wants leave. For a player who has put this great club of ours through the turmoil he has created is bad enough, but to act the way he did yesterday by not reciprocating the fans applause, says it all to me.

I loved him as a player, and yes I even loved him as a man and defended him to the hilt through his racial brush with **ra ( even to this day I can't even bear to type his name ), but I have now come to the point where I genuinely think it is in the best interests of our great club to let the man go. He has orchestrated this move cleverly, he has betrayed the fans who still adore him, but most importantly for me, I have lost the respect I once had for him.

Liverpool fans over the years have demonstrated one clear character trait, they are the worlds best friends to anyone they genuinely hold dear to our great club, but let this be a reminder to Suarez, they can also be the worlds worst enemies to anyone who betrays us.

I genuinely type this with a sad heart after watching him yesterday. I think he is making a huge mistake, but if he leaves us, I know he will always remember the truly awesome reception he received yesterday, despite what he has put the fans through.

We can hold our heads high with pride and honour, we did the correct thing yesterday to one of ours, but somehow i'm not sure Luis can now

Diego Costa would be an excellent signing for us as he has shown to be a defenders worst nightmare to play against, this is what Liverpool have been missing someone with pace, power and aggression. Costa and Suares best strike partnership in the prem.

100% agree with BR on the sale value of Suarez, if Bales worth 80, 90 or even 100 million ( which he's not ) then Suarez who happens to be the 3rd best player in the world behind Messi and Ronaldo is surely a 100 million pound player.

Arsenals offer of 40 million is a joke and Wenger knows it, he's alright coming out and slagging off the price of Bale saying its obsence when he knows that he's trying to get Suarez on the cheap it's double standards.

If Wenger thinks he can get Suarez for 40 million and then guarantee champions league football for the next 5 yrs for Arsenal at our expense at what cost would that be to Liverpool? 50, 60 70 million a season.

I know people say its no good keeping an unsettled player at the club but on this occasion I think the club are handling the situation brilliantly. Suarez has 3yrs left on his contract, Liverpool know they hold the aces, sell Suarez for anything less than 100 million to Arsenal then we can kiss goodbye to the CL for the forseeable future.

Or sell Suarez to a team outside the Premiership Real or Bayern PSG Monaco etc and use the millions from the sale to make our team even stronger than Arsenals and Spurs which gives us the edge on finishing above both London clubs.

I don't think people realise how big a decision the whole selling Suarez deal is. It's far bigger than the sale of Torres as back then we were CL regulars, it's been 4 years now and it's hurt the club both financially and by team strength.

Keep the faith Liverpool FC and don't give in.

Right so here's what I gathered from
Being At the game yesterday along with things I've heard from my source and comments that have come out in the press since!
1. Despite coming on yesterday, spearing will leave for the championship. Bolton the obvious possibility with Blackpool and Wigan also linked but I'm told Blackburn still very likely too.
2. I didn't see who Stevie passed the armband to when he left the field. Can anyone confirm and does this confirm the vice captaincy? Personally I'd like it to be agger.
3. Purely my own speculation but I believe Borini may leave and also Skrtrl and Coates. I know this would depend on incomings too but it seemed strange to me that they didn't get the slightest run out.
4. Despite the reaction he got, I don't think a lot of fans really want Suarez to stay after his actions this summer. I thought the crowd yesterday was a lot more family orientated than a typical game and I just wonder if Suarez would have got the same reaction on another day? I talked to a lot of season ticket holders at the game yesterday and on Friday night and the word that kept cropping up probably can't be repeated on here but started with S and ended in BAG!
5. What has Martin Kelly done to his barnet! Haha
Cheers guys {Ed002's Note - (2) Spearing. (5) It looks like someone has left something nasty on Coutinho's head as well.}

Hi Eds, I took my 3 yr old son to his first game yesterday, he loved it and I was the proudest dad in the world that my son watched SG have a great day and witness my hero GOD in action, although he's a little wider these days.

We saw Danny Sturridge buying an ice cream out side the game, I had left as soon as Stevie G was subbed to a standing ovation because my wife is 7 1/2 months pregnant,,

After Danny I ended up following Roy Evans who was with another guy, and listened to him talk. he was talking about luis and saying he wants to go, he's gone, he reiterated he's going, he's going. He was speaking in a rather harsh tone like he'd only just found out about the news and sounded very disgusted in Suarez. I then butted in and asked if he was going because he did'nt know I was behind him and I then asked outright but I just got a shrug and a bit of a grin.

I had hoped the fans reception and carras constant arm around the shoulder yesterday would change his mind but obviously not. Onwards and upwards though great game yesterday and much to be hopeful for. With or without him! {Ed002's Note - I am glad you enjoyed yourselves.}

David Luiz £40m, Daniel Agger £12m?

Gareth Bale £95m, Luis Suarez £40m?

Reina and Skrtel on loan not sold

Now I understand LS has baggage (but not £55m worth as if he did nobody would even consider him)

I also understand that player on loan = wages saved

We do seem to get worked over quite a bit in the transfer market.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

How have we been worked over? You don't know what the loan deal entailed, it might have and probably did include a fee as well as wages covered. What if no transfer bids came in for both players? They wouldn't be playing but we would be paying. It is naive to think that when Skrtel and Reina's agents found out about the loan bids they didn't tout their players around Europe. No one made a bid. Get real, we have made the best out of a situation. {Ed002's Note - You really need to get signed up.}

Its ridiculous because david luiz and bwle are not worth anything near that valuation, it is purely because they play for clubs that the english media love and therfore overhype their players, whereas the english media don't like us.

The loan deals for Reina and Skrtel (if the Napoli deal does happen) make perfect sense.

Reina would have been sitting on the bench this season which hurts his value. At Napoli he will be their number one which will will give us the chance to get as much as possible for him.

There have been no offers to buy Skrtel and he ain't going to get too much first team action at Anfield this season so best to loan him out and to try keep his value.

Plus Reina and Skrtel sees +- 200k off the wage bill a week.

Good bit of business if you had to ask me.

Personally i'm not sure why David Luiz is rated so highly as 40m, no saying he's bad but 40m is a lot. Also Agger will not leave for 12m no even close he is a player we are desperate to keep and the lad is loyal, if he wants to leave he'll tell the club but he will not go to the Danish press and whine until the cows come home.

Suarez might be worth more if he didn't force himself of every club and go round biting etc. and I rate Bale as the next Ronaldo so why not

Agree0 Disagree0

All people involved in transfer dealings at Liverpool will be doing the best they can for the club.
You can only sell for what someone is prepared to pay. Transfer fees are not a true valuation of the player.

Agree0 Disagree0

This is why I'm over the moon with Rodgers moving the goal posts with regards to the fee for Suarez, he's right, there's no way that Bale is worth so much more than Suarez. I'm really glad that we're messing other teams around in terms of price, we've been pushed around for far too long.

I'm with Gerrard in thinking our season completely comes down to Suarez.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah because it's all down to one player isn't it? Nothing to do with the other 10 players on the field or the ones sitting on the bench.
We have, for far too long, relied on one person to do something special. We need a team of winners not just one person who everyone looks to.

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely it will come down to who we replace him with if he goes, and how well we play, with him or without him, whichever it might be.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not sorry mr gerrard, I have faith we never made top 4 last year or year before with him, think as a squad we a lot stronger as I've seen from lfc for good few years, if we sell Suarez for a lot of money then great 55m 60m etc but if he stays great we won't lose, just as long the money does not spent well!
Ynwa

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think that, i'm looking forward to Sturridge coming back and the 1 or 2 new faces people are talking about to hopefully share the goals about.

My concerns (if any) would be if Skrtel & (as well as Coates) are to go and we are looking at another left back then that's a huge change to the back 5.

If so it wii be interesting to see if while away he starts to talk to the press stating he wants to leave again!

I personally think as soon as he is away from Liverpool he will start to shoot his mouth off! {Ed002's Note - There is certainly a fixture in about 10 days time. I don't know the travel plans.}

i know these matches meant nothing in points but,

Liverpool now have won 5 matches in a row. And even if these were friendlies we never seamed to get in trouble.
Lacked a bit of sharpness. But inclusion of kolo and mignolet does have strengthen us in defense for sure.

If suarez stays then only 3 players. A creative midfielder who can at least contribute 15 goals(goal+assist), an upgread on lucas, and a fast CB. Is all we need.

We can surely be in any of the 3rd or 4th places. {Ed002's Note - You need to be registered for posting now. We'll let it go for a few days.}

Hi Eds & Reds,

I am really looking forward to the new season and in particular to the match next Saturday in the Aviva v Celtic. It's not often I get to see the mighty reds, but I am going to travel up to Dublin from Cork for it.

Anyways, the reason for my optimism is because this is the first time in years that we genuinely have quality competition in nearly every position. I also expect a couple of more signings to strengthen the squad defensively, LB and CB.

I think this season we'll see Stevie G really flourish. He's had to carry the team for many a season, now with Couthino, Sturridge, Aspas, if Suarez stays and Costa does come in, there is certainly a lot more creativity and firepower there than us just to be reliant Stevie G to carry us through games.

The return of Lucas is like a new signing, although I would like to see cover for him as well. Do ye know if we have interest in any players in Lucas's position, given that Coady has gone on loan, Spearing looks to be going. Also do you think it's a role Kelly could slot into if required? He's strong athletic, good in the tackle, great engine

Can I just say that people getting on BR's back need to have a little rethink. I have been crying out for weeks for him to use Gareth Bale as an example and benchmark for the sale of Suarez. Yes Suarez wants to go, but at the same time by all accounts so does Bale! I really don't see why spurs should be demanding a world record fee for a player who was at best just as good as Suarez last season yet where supposed to be happy with 40mil? I think Rodgers is doing a really good job with the press and driving the price up as much as possible. 40m for a player of suarez's ability with 3 years left on his contract is nothing short of disrespectful. I'm happy with the way the club are handling the situation at present and hopefully we will get a bid of at least 55m and all move on from this boring saga.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

04 Aug 2013 11:47:15
There is definitely another step up he needs to make. I think he has it in him, but whether or not he does is down to his attitude and work ethic more than ability at this stage, Michael Johnson case in point. Hopefully the loan will get him some experience, and generally help him kick on.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't see him personally making it to the starting 11, but he's a good player with a great work ethic. I could see him as LB in a lower prem or championship team. Sorta in the same position that I see Spearing, great players, but not the level of quality we need to push on to top 4.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2013 06:58:53
This transfer window started brightly, everyone positive (or deluded) about the prospects for new signings and our chances of a top 4 finish. Now there seems to be an air of dismay!

We were short on quality cover in nearly every position last season, and we have since lost carragher, reina, suso, skrtel, with others to follow. Suarez will go and Agger may follow, and I don't believe that we will be able to replace them players of equal quality.

It seems to me that we have some money to spend, but we don't know where to spend it, or that the players targeted aren't interested in coming to Anfield.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

With all due respect, you do not know who our targets are. All you know is what the media tells you and what you hear. BR is going about his business, I know that they are all hard at work trying to find the right players at the right price. Patience is a virtue son

Eds,
not claiming to be ITK but Arsenal look like they are being used to set up a market for LS and start a bidding war. Obviously Real is his preference but with Bale deal floating around, there is a concern they may not be able to buy LS in this window. Coincidentally the Arsenal noise seems to be dying down and the Liverpool rhetoric of retaining him seems to be increasing.

On that basis wouldn't it be more likely that he pushes for a move in January window as he won't be tie bound for any ECL team and would also have an idea of Liverpool Top 4 prospects. He won't have played much either given his suspension so barring injury, can't see his value dropping too much. {Ed001's Note - not really likely, clubs don't tend to spend big in January, though he does have the advantage of not being cup tied for Europe.}

Daniel Agger is a class fullback, and I can understand the interest from Barcelona. He has been a fantastic player for LFC and loves the club, even getting YNWA tattooed across his fingers. My question is, how does the club accept a bid for Skrtle with reported interest in Agger, Carragher having retired and Coates available for transfer? That leaves Martin Kelly and Andre Wisdom as options at center back. I would think we need not only depth, but quality at the position. -Jack Straw {Ed002's Note - If the guy leaves he will be replaced.}

Watched the testimonial match and was very impressed with the team especially Sterling and Aspas. Joe Allen's movement and positional play was excellent, pity he's not that good a taker of chances.
The game did however show up Enrique's frailties most notably in his transitional play, he is reluctant to pass and then make an overlapping run and takes a split second too long to make his mind up when he's in possession. I think Johnson had a better game in that respect.
This leads to the question of should we be looking for cover for the LB position as most people think or direct competition for Enrique?

Don't want to get slated so I used direct competition instead of replacement.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I do in generall not rate enrique in an attacking sense, nor johnson actually the majority of the time because I think they take too much time on the ball. I don't however see the point in selling enrique because in the premiership anyway there are few better than him for that role. I would let johnson go but because he is just so poor defensively, even at basic defensive responsabilities such as holding a line.

Agree0 Disagree0

I fully agree jcanred. With the addition of Toures composure on the ball within the back four, Enriques punctuation within defence is there for all to see.

Ozone

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree about Enrique, watching him yesterday didn't fill me with confidence. He seemed to be getting annoyed at not having support. Although there have been a lot of times that I've liked watching him. I think he would be better as a wing back or in the 3-5-2 and be pushed up

I think I may be dreaming here

Do you think signings may have already been made but they weren't wanting to take any more attention off Stevie G on his testimonial. The main people at the club seemed positive about signings coming in(more positive than usual) also they are very positive about suarez staying,

I also noticed suarez smiled today way more than any other game pre season.

big signings maybe? Convinced him to give it another year? The fans helped a lot today if this is the case.

Sleep tight ;) {Ed002's Note - So the testimonial was some sort of smokescreen?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Smokescreen so all of the clubs know we were focusing on Gerrard's game rather than transfers :O

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate I think that if Suarez were to stay then at this stage he would be getting more than 30 minutes in each preseason friendly, on the other hand the likes of Aspas are further along their preseason training than Suarez due to the extended break and the 6 games he has to miss. I don't mind if he goes or stays as long as we spend the cash properly.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not saying its a smokescreen. What i'm saying is the signings may just of happened to coincide with the testimonial so its not a good time to announce them as it would take the focus off gerrard in interviews etc. The suarez questions were doing that enough. It was awkward at times

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe Suarez was just smiling because it's Stevie's day and that's a happy occasion! :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Why give him more than 30 mins time - he's not available for the first 6 games. BR has a balancing act to do - keep him interested and try to get/keep him fit whilst at the same time get 11 players who will play on those 6 games gelling and match fit and winning.

Agree0 Disagree0

People read things into everything, makes me laugh.
Why would Suarez need more than 30 mins each game? Bear in mind his pre-season will last 6 games longer than anyone else's!

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2013 11:54:04
Suarez was smiling because before the match, Mrs. Saurez promised him some "special Luis tiime", which included bath salts, a signed Emile Heskey boot, two ripe mandarins and a half-eaten tub of peanut butter - Luis' favourite.

Hello eds, first time poster here.Great site by the way. I have to say i'm really pleased with the way things are going at the club, Brendan has handled the Suarez situation well and I think he is right in saying Luis should be worth almost the same as bale because over the last few years I've felt like we have made some poor decisions in the transfer market of letting players go for less than they are worth and bringing players in for more than their worth.

Another thing is you can see the type of players he is trying to bring to the club, he's looking for players that are fighter's, that don't know how to give up which I think is a good thing as it could push us into that top four this season. I really believe this season we will get there once we keep supporting the team, as we all know at some stage of the season we will have a few bad results. I really think the only weak part of our team is left back and another centre half for cover especially if Skrtel leaves, but all in all I think we will finish this season strong. Do you think we will try and get new signings in before the season starts or will brendan assess it after the first couple of games.

Really looking forward to the game in Dublin as I only get to go over for one game every season.YNWA {Ed002's Note - I would think BR knows what he wants already. Obtaining the players might not be so easy.}

If we are looking for a left back so much why haven't we tried Coentroa of Madrid? Apparently available and could be part of the Suarez deal.

Admittadley he may not want to join, but if he is linked with Totenham they aren't in CL either this season. We want Suarez out, Madrid want Suarez but don't want a high fee 40-45 million) and we need a left back.

I don't mind Enrique as our left back but I do think we should include a player in a deal with Madrid. Seems to suit all parties, and we strengthen.

Hopefully Papadopulos will be coming in also as a direct replacement for Skrtle. Which would give us a very impressive back four of.

Coentroa.
Agger.
Papadopulos.
Johnson.

That's a top back line that could be formiddable if settled well.
We're likely to see Spearing, Assiaidi and Downing leave too, which could path the way for Eriksen to finally come in.

That would be a quality squad and Rodgers would also likely bring in a striker with Suarez leaving.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was told he is talking to FC Sion in Switzerland. They might not be that big a club but a lot of Ghanaian players take that sort of route into European football these days via countries like Ukraine, Switzerland and Belgium as a safe bet. Players Going straight to big clubs like Dominic Adiyiah, who was top scorer in the u20 world cup 4 years ago went to AC Milan at the time and never played and is a typical example of how that sort of move rarely works out. I don't know where he will end up it will be somewhere like FC Sion. {Ed002's Note - That is interesting. I don't have the time to go into detail but a complexity to the homegrown rule in certain countries gives benefit to African players - for example, Spain has the Cotonou Agreement where African and Caribbean players are not counted against non-EU quotas (due to the Kolpak ruling).}

Interesting that Clint Dempsey set for Seattle Sounders. We're we right to not overpay?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think this is a real strange one from the spuds. We drew 13 games last season and Dempsey scored 12 goals in all completions for them. If we had had those 12 goals I think we would have finished 4th. It wasn't the 9 defeats that's hampered us last year it was all the draws.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lfc87 mate I'm not having a dig but I just can't see how you can come to that conclusion. It is hard to know if we were right not to overpay because I'm sure that he would've been useful for when only Suarez and an under performing Downing were our only senior strikers. On the other hand would we have got Coutinho or Sturridge had we signed Dempsey. Sometimes a step back is needed for 2 forward. Remaining positive.

Agree0 Disagree0

So what you are saying is that if we had of signed dempsey then we would have drew only 1 game. I'm sorry Lf87 but that's not how it works. WexRed Ps I'm going to register later today. {Ed002's Note - Thanks.}

He`s a beast and a legend of football worldwide. His testimonial was amazing even though I watched about the first 15 mins. I think we have to sort out the Suarez situation so as not to be a distraction. By this I don`t mean sell him to anyone at any price. If they can`t meet our evaluation, then he stays and sucks it up. I also think we must come together and support the team, owners and coaching staff. We must stand together and resist cynicism, doom-mongers and naysayers who think we are dead and gone. We are not. We are NOT. We are only taking a breather b4 our rise back to power. Support with all u have in you and never give up no matter the odds, my fellow reds for we did not give up in Istanbul or against West Ham in the FA cup and we won`t be doing that now. Me- "He wants to go and has stated many times, his agent has even spoken to our direct competition. He is a lying rat, that bites people and probably did not deserve the class shown to him by our fans today."

Ha! So, there you go.
I blame you Eds, how dare you keep my feet on the ground, with un-bias, informed logic.

, that's so funny mate, we all blame you eds for any info, than again and again we come for more and more :)

I agree with Admin Davey, sorry - we need to keep Luis Suarez, we have to show other teams and prospective decent signings that we still have ambition, and selling your best player is wrong. And BR is right in saying Suarez is worth at least what Bale is worth.

I bet the unnamed person was Harry Scousser?
Sorry Harry but couldn't resist.

Why is everyone worried about maybe having Sturridge, Costa, Aspas and Suarez we did it with Peter Beardsly, John Aldridge, John Barnes, Ray Houghton and Ian Rush In 87/88 and City won the league with Dzeko, Tevez, Balo and Aguero.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You are missing Borini in the list of our strikers, Kidder. If Costa comes then 1 will Leave.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ray Houghton played right Midfield.

Suarez wants out and Liverpool want the best money they can get for him. Brendan pointed out today about the money Real are prepared to pay for Bale. Suarez is worth just as much. Diego Costa is being eyed up as his replacement.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why don't we just swap with Bale instead!

I like the good work buck has done attacking wise but I think teams will still hit us with a sucker punch will we be getting another centre half r dm?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Jacks1, I know it's only pre-season but we have yet to concede a goal. To me that's not doing too much wrong defensively.

Hey eds, just wondering what is the latest on Sturridge's fitness? Will he be fit for the start of the season do you think? {Ed001's Note - should be.}

Eds.whats your opinion on aspes looks a good player very much in the dirk kuyt mould {Ed001's Note - far too soon to judge him, does look to have a good workrate though.}

Hi eds
How can Suarez take legal action if we don't sell I've never heard the likes of any other club in this situation we just need to keep doing what we r doing and say no he is not for sale and Rodgers is bang on when he says if bale goes for 100 mill then Suarez is not valued at half bales value {Ed001's Note - we ended up with the Bosman ruling after a player took legal action to get out of a contract. So I think you will find you have heard of a similar situation. While this is not exactly the same thing, he was out of contract etc, it is still not unheard of for solicitors to become involved when a player wants to move clubs and the club blocks a sale.}

didn't he try it to get out of Groningen.

And fail miserably? {Ed001's Note - he threatened to, not sure he actually went through with it.}

Agree0 Disagree0

You are right ED - but think back a few years and the last time solicitors got involved in one of our prospective transfers - Heinze, from that lot down the M62 - they came out in favour of the selling club.

Right on the dunny and had a little time to pause for thought, so predictions. I think overall we have a good starting point for the new season. Still require someone with power and pace at the back, I am still worried teams can look to overpower us when its in the mixer so to say. I also think the left back and right back spots need attention, Kelly and Wisdom are not the answer. Whilst both can cover if needed I am left to think they are better suited to a centre back position. Positionally I think we harm their future if they are needed as cover. Enrique works hard but sometimes lacks the footballing brains to know when to push or when to sit. We still need another scorer, Sturidge is great but I worry if he gets an injury, and we have zero in cover for him. Other than adding a attacking player who can play wide and advanced cam I think we look good and could surprise a few. Your thoughts ladies and gents?

lucas was great today. lfc is different as a defensive unit when he is there. cover lots of ground and so many ball winning tackles, runs.
i can't see why people don't rate him.
also alberto is not first team material, hez like way below coutinho and sterling .
still more signings required,
any body rate keissling here (leverkusen). I would love if we get him.? anything on him eds?

How addictive is this site?!?! With no pl for about 3 months, this has kept me going through these dark moments.
The changes youve made to the site r spot-on eds, keeps all the knobs away, and I haven't seen waro signin yet, so youve killed 2 birds with one stone.
I think were going to surprize a few people this season and kick some a*se
Theres a good feeling about the new season and around anfield this last month.

I hope people saw today what Suarez was about today. A player on a mission to leave, with no recognition of the fans.

So they cheered him, he ignored them.
So they cheered him, he treated then with disdain.
So they cheered him, he effectively was ambivalent.

Compare LS with God. No need to as there is no comparison.

God loves the Club. LS doesn't give a damn.

Do us all a favour and hand in a transfer request LS, go to Arsenal and realise what a mistake you made.
