What does Macca mean by the club think Bent is a good player but not clever enough yet? The kid is about to turn 28 in a few weeks so if he aint smart enough now and at a price of over 20 million well I just don't know whats what. {Ed002's Note - I think he was talking about Morgan.}

04 Jan 2012 23:25:55
I know the eds dont agree but i do believe torres has a chance of coming back, with the comeback of Gerrard lifting the team he is the player to get the best out of him!
It will be bring Torres great confidence and when suarez returns i could see it being a formidable partnership as if Torres stayed last January Carroll was a target for the summer
What do other people think?

Chris

Do you still stalk your ex-girlfriends Chris? Think about Torres performance for the past 2 years. Think how much he would cost us and think about better, younger, faster forwards that could be bought for the same amount. You're looking at the past not the future. Time to move on.

Hi Ed's, do you know if Ian Ayre will keep his position as CEO? We've had some bad stuff over the past 7 months, from tv rights,false shankly quotes, Man city tickets, his made huge mistakes. {Ed002's Note - WE need to be respectful about the folks at the club right now. So if you don't mind we will avoid the discussion at this time.}

Well said ED 002

ed 001 how confident are you that we could get soldado i 100% agree with you that he is are best option a natural goalscorer that will score all types of goals and the kind of calibare of player we need to get if we are to have any hope of getting into top 4,also what positions do you think we will strenghten in jan
cheers

the freshmaker {Ed001's Note - I am not at all confident we would get him, but you never know, it has to be worth a go.}

We all know that Ed001 is a jinx, and any player he wants we don't get.

Let's just hope one day his luck changes!

dmedly :-)

Ed001, would you give Gerrard 30-35 mins on Friday night, to get more match fitness? Start with Coady, then bring on Gerrard, maybe?

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed001's Note - that would depend on the fitness coach's report. He might need rest rather than football, to give his muscles time to recover.}

04 Jan 2012 23:16:18
David Ngog currently is playing than Carroll, he stronger in the air and in to feet, his touch is better and he is scored a clinical goal against Everton. Expect a bid of £7m for him...

Ha silly person

Dear god no!!

maka YNWA JFT96

We will see how he fairs out againts the mancs

January/February are going to be crucial for us. We must get it right this window. 2/3 players will be all we get, and they must hit the ground running and be quality enough to compete with our starting XI at the least.

Striker, Winger, Midfielder.

As well as this, it is time for Andy Carroll to step up and be counted, because Suarez is gone for a month. And finally, look around us in the league:

ACN -
City lose; Yaya and Kolo Toure
Chelsea lose; Drogba, Kalou, Mikel and Essien(although he was never there really through injury)
Arsenal lose; Song, Gervinho and Chamakh
Newcastle lose; Ba and Tiote.
Tottenham lose; Assou-Ekotto, Bassong and Pienarr.

A lot of teams around us are losing some good squad players and some key players in other cases. We must take this opportunity to push onwards and upwards.

YNWA! (Adam)

And spurs lose adebyor he back in international football {Ed002's Note - No.}

Looking at your list Adam mate, to me it looks like Arsenal, could be worse off than the rest. Song and Gervinho have been 2 of their best players, this season imo. They would be a big loss to them. Me thinks that they will spend more then usual this window, they need to.

Also read Gulliem Balague's blog a few weeks ago and he said. That City are after Javi Martinez because Yaya is away, to the ACON. That's if you believe Gulliem Balague mate.

Totally agree mate, we should take full use of other clubs problems, especially Chelsea and Arsenal. We can beat them to 4th, no probs imo.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Spurs ose no-one, Cameroon are SA didn't qualify.

KT! {Ed002's Note - Nor Togo.}

I'll spare you the explanation Ed ;) Adebayor has indeed returned to international football, however Togo failed to qualify for the ACN. You weren't to know though so don't worry about. Every other year he has gone!

YNWA! (Adam)

Ahhh thanks for letting me know KT! I wasn't aware of who qualified, only that Togo didn't. This still means that out of the top 7 teams, 4 of them are losing key players though, so we should still push. Thanks for being humble in telling me though. Some children (who are by know in bed of course) would've taken the opportunity to ridicule me haha!

YNWA! (Adam)

Re Macca, surely there must be more to the club supporting Suarez so much than just not trusting Evra's word. It's foolish to be so strongly on one side, especially over an area as controversial as racism, based purely on thinking Evra isn't telling the full truth

04 Jan 2012 22:59:11
I know this question has been asked alot to the ED's but Macca is there any truth in the de Jong rumours?
Cheers JF92

Amr Zaki (Wigan, Hull, Zamalek)

He has been life long Liverpool fan and has always wanted to play for lfc. He has been likened to Alan Shearer in strength and nose for goal. His club Zamalek are in financial trouble and unable to play his wages dating back to last season. So In-form striker Amr Zaki has filed a complaint with the EFA to annul his contract.

He is in-form, injury free and his club would be willing to loan him for the cash.

Is that you Zaki ? Happy New Year and hope the missus is ok now ?

Would struggle to get a game for the Academy...

Martin

We've already wasted a load of money on one striker who had a good 10 mins in the EPL, we don't need to do it again!

Ash

Zaki goes missing and I don't just mean, on the pitch.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Ps. Ash lol

Let me guess who you're criticising today, Ash? The same player you've been moaning about since he was bought? Your thoughts about AC are well known but let me ask you this...
We have Andy now and we've paid 35m for him. What would you like LFC to do about it?
His current valuation is probably around 15m so should we cash that in and take a 20m loss?
Should we spend millions more and buy another high-profile striker and let Andy collect his wages in the reserves or on loan?
Would you like to try a swap deal with Fernando Torrid?
From a business point of view data was gathered and an investment has been made based on form and potential over the next however many years. Surely the best approach now is to try and maximise that investment? Kenny needs to find the how he fits into the team and play him when a big centre forward is needed with the players that can give him quality service (esp Gerrard). The supporters can do their bit by singing his name on the terraces and on the internet because he is a Liverpool player whether you like it or not. By doing this, we are all giving Andy Carroll the best possible chance to show his ability and more chance for LFC to receive a return on their investment.
What do you hope to achieve by constantly slating him every time you post?

cozinoz

Wow Cozinoz, that's quite a response!

I'll start by addressing the "what should we do with Andy now" question. I think that we should loan him out to a team that his playing style would fit in with. Let him be the focal point of a smaller team for a season in an effort to increase his ever-dwindling value. After this, we should look to sell him when his market value has increased - almost certainly at a loss, but at a smaller one than we would realise now. Knowing when to "cash-out" is the key here.

Would I swap him for Torres? Are you on crack?

You say data was gathered, and I can only assume you are alluding to the sabermetrics system in baseball - one which has very little relevance to football. The bottom line is that Andy Carroll is the very embodiment of English hype. A man who was steady if Steady if unspectacular in the Championship, followed by a good 6 months in the premiership. It should also be noted that many teams and players of newly promoted teams flatter to deceive within their first few months of top flight football. This, I believe is the situation we are in with Andy.

You are right though in one regard. We should (and I do) sing his name whenever I get to games. However, I think that we cannot say anything about him on a forum because we may hurt his feelings is nonsense. If you are so weak of character that you cannot read anything negative about yourself, you probably don't have the personality to handle the pressures of walking in the footsteps of Rush, Toshak, Aldridge, Keegan, Torres (yes Torres) etc.

gonna get slated for this post but top 4 looks a long long way off at moment need good clear out in summer .what about giving stering his chance carroll waste of time some good lads in res,be bold kenny throw them in we going ,nowhere at moment lets see what we got .lads who wanna prove themselves and not here for money

Didn't know 3 point was so far..

Stu.

Are you calling 3 points a long way off??

clm96p

3 points off 4th. 3 points off 4th. 3 points off 4th.

Write this out 100 times and then go to some motivational classes until you've learned your lesson.

Martin

Yip only 3 points, but there are at least 4 teams in contention.
Newcastle now a point behind LFC, and they have guys who can score goals.
What a pity we didn't wait 12 months and but Ba instead of AC.
Also Chelsea will be buying (£150 million to spend), and will get stronger.
Arsenal have Henry back (no telling what his impact may be) and they may very well strengthen as well.

At this stage we are at a distinct disadvantage, and I fear unless we secure a striker (who can score) and other attacking players who can contribute goals as well, we might find ourselves falling behind.

Surely the management and owners are not prepared to throw away a good start to the season by not acquiring new talent.
If we don't acquire, it is anyones guess as to where we will finish 4/5/6/7.

watching game v city noticed were carrying johnson put on a few cheeky pounds ,adam looks as slow as a tortoise, kuyts ran his race at club bellamy should av started so to gerrard whats going wrong

04 Jan 2012 22:49:40
As disappointing as last night's defeat to City was, we need to keep things in perspective. Without our 3 best players starting (Gerrard, Suarez and Lucas) and with our other World Class player having an unexpected poor game (Reina), we outplayed the team who WILL be Champions for long periods on their own pitch.

I said a month ago (unfortunately not on this site, so you will have to beleive me) that Liverpool will finish above United this season. We were more than 12 points adrift then and still have some catch up to do but I believe that this will happen. We won't catch City or Spurs but are playing for 2 Champions League places against United, Chelsea and Arsenal, If we can find a goalscoring touch, we are well capable of doing it.

Incidentally, the service to Carroll was abysmal once more. Sort it out Kenny. It's no good backing the lad in the media but leaving him to hang out to dry on the pitch. If Downing, Johnson, Kuyt and the rest are not capable of recognising the type of ball he requires, and even less capable of delivering it, get them out and bring in players who can.

I would bring in John Aldridge to coach Carroll in his positioning and movement as these are things he needs to improve. Aldridge never had great pace but was able to score goals in one of the greatest footballing sides we have ever seen. If Aldridge could get him to stay in the penalty box more often and take up better positions, I'm sure the goals would come.

redmersey

Think AC could use all the advice he could get. Anything to improve his positional play.

04 Jan 2012 22:49:06
Fergie takes rooney off with 15 mins to go. He loses 2 games in a row. One against the bottom team in the leagu at home and one against Newcastle away. They have shipped 6 goals and scored 2. He has played four players out of position today. Not entirely down to injury.

In addition look at the squad he has assembled. He spent £20m on a keeper and he spent £20m ish on Young, he spent similar on Jones. Two didn't play and despite what the media reports Jones is awkward and makes plenty of mistakes. ( granted he is 19).

Point that is being made. Fergie has lost it. He's out of touch of the modern game. He is too stubborn. His transfer policy is poor.

Fair criticisms? Oh what's that mancs? No? Time to think before you speak.

Walk on.

D-Day(1892)

Phil jones has been fantastic so dont slate him. and if you want to talk about transfers, well you have lost two of your three best mids in meireles and aquillani. than you bought carrol for 35 million? rooney was less than that. then you bought henderson for around twenty right? he's not worth twenty quid, cant do jack.

oh and adams? average at best. you guys are lucky to have money to spend. pity that you waste it so badly.

fergie won the title, got to champo league final and is three points behind city with a very average team, one if our worst for a while, and you have the nerve to call him a bad manager. get a grip mate

redboy

Any yet they are 2nd and we are 6th..
I think you need to think before you speak , slating other clubs wont get us into 4th and champions league we need to look into our own first.
Roy

Mate fergie`s time has come and man united`s era trust me they will never dominate league like they have done for two decades they might win league titles in future but not dominate like they have done in past

Fergie is a dictator. Maybe the players are growing tired of living under Saddam Husseins rule, and now rebelling.
Besides, nobody here cares about your team, this is a LFC site, go play with your own kind!

Hey Rentboy,

Clearly irony is lost on you. Yes you have been successful recently. I'm clearly pointing out that during a dip in form or some poor decisions, you can put two and two together and make 5. Remember the nonsense your lot spouted last season about The King? Exactly. Football is a fickle game these days. Support your own club and realise that anything can happen in football.

On and Roy. Grow up.

D-Day (1892)

Oh and Redboy, when you paid your money for " a scouser " (how you sing about scouters every game and then blow the potato's trumpet straight after is remarkable, don't know who to pitt you or the poor spud) it was inflated. Would likely equate to about £50 mil now. For a teenager. Henderson, yeah we paid big money, the truth is time will tell. He's young and improving. On the topic of young? How is "he" improving? Oh and your keeper? And your back up keeper, and your expensive winged that plays right back? Or perhaps your brasilian right back that plays midfield.
Come to think of it, your mans boss has looked awfully purple again, has he been hitting the bottle hard. He couldn't even muster the strength to talk to yours boys on the touch line today. Still at least you had a good Christmas.

D-Day (1892)

I thought rooney cost round the 30mil mark back in the day correct me if im wrong.
k-h

Maybe old Fergie (yes he is!), was out spending Rooneys £200K (fine) on bottles of Whisky, Wine, boxes of Gum and Viagra (so he can get his old 'Royal and Ancient' firing again. Time for Shady pines nursing home and zimmer frames!.

Macca,

Why are the club even looking at Darren Bent? If they have the money to buy him why not go for someone bigger and better like Higuain? Maybe he's not interested, but you get my jist.

RuncornRed

Bent would definitely come, he's pacey, he's good in the air and he's a real poacher. He's just what we need up front, he'd be perfect imo

Im sure i read earlier that Macca said 'i can almost guarentee we wont sign Bent'

Hi Eds and Reds

This is the best site on the net by far . Ed1 and Ed2 crack me up . Bob the Red , Jonson - love their insights and the fact that they wear their hearts on their sleeves .

Doom Mongers should have their own page ( for red turk and ASH) .

Thanks

oh for a strong commited twisting,turning,strong,tracking back,pacey,run lines, good in air-and with dodgy knee!Demba ba esque Striker.What a Centre forward display!A pest,direct,makes things happen,never gives Centre Halfs peace,Just shows,still gems out there.

How much of that display from Ba was down to supply from his team mates? Answer not much it was more to do with his own intelligence, skill, movement, pace and ability. In other words all the things that Carroll doesn't show

We have one of those he goes by the name Saurez
Up the pool

Suarez aint got Ba s goal return,sadly

Ed, do you know if the the club scouts the same players Newcastle/Arsenal may look at for example?

They've discovered a few gems for reasonable amounts of money in recent times.

How come the so called 'lesser' teams can and we can't?

04 Jan 2012 22:10:09
man utd got destroyed lol. anyways, i hope we sell kuyt, adam, downing, spearing, skirtel, carroll, aurelio and henderson. they are not good enough. if they stay then we will concede goals. we need world class players.

Yeah I would say that Aurellio and Carroll have been responsible for most of the goals we have conceded this season.

JRG

What have u been smoking skirtel was everyones best player when he saved that shot off the line against newcastle then he gives away a pen to city an everyone wants to sell him. spearing is a good squad player nothing more an adam just looks tired henderson looks like hes going to be quality an aurelio is a decent back up for lb but so is robinson so i'll give u that one :) an carroll gets a lot of stick he doesnt really deserve and finally downing needs to learn how cross the ball an so does johnson.

thanks
Big Red John

demba ba newcastle player has been a great punt purchase. He was way better than Carlton Cole and we wanted Carlton cole 12 months ago

Demba Ba failed two medicals, maybe this is the reason?

I have an idea lets buy ba for well 35 million should do it ...

Lots of talk of us signing strikers. But shouldn't we be trying to get a holding midfielder and a right winger? Any news on potential target for these positions Eds?

Have you even seen us infront of goal this season?

04 Jan 2012 22:06:56
All together now Ba ba ba ba ba baran - luv it made my night! Phil Jones or Luis Enrique, Ashley Young or Downing who bought the better players in the summer? Utd have been poor all season and other teams are now realising they are there for the taking.

What is with the constant mistake of calling Jose Enrique, liverpools left back, Luis Enrique, Roma's manager.

I normally am not bothered about things like "Adams" or "Johnston", but even commentators sometimes get Jose's first name wrong. It's just a bit odd.

Anfield Rapstar

04 Jan 2012 22:06:52
Well despite mr Webb giving Man Utd everything justice prevails.so Man Utd players can surround and berate the ref and evra can grab him with both hands - one rule for one.

If Joey Barton had grabbed the referee he'd get an 8 game ban, if Suarez had grabbed the referee he'd be banned for life. The inconsistency sickens me. If they truly cared about football the FA would charge Man Utd with failing to control their players and Evra with assaulting an official. If it doesn't happen the FA should charge themselves with bringing the game into disrepute.

04 Jan 2012 22:06:39
three goal defeat can happen to anyone in football.

The important thing is to laugh at SFX now, then pick yourself for the next game

Fergie chose wrong with Lindergaard, who had previously pleaded to him "take a chance on me". De Gea is just left looking like a dancing queen, shouting "Gimme Gimme Gimme" a shot. Fergie must be thinking S.O.S.

Thank god chelsea signed fernando

"Mamma Mia" It just shows that "The Name Of The Game" isn't all to do with "Money, Money, Money."
They need to "Move On," "The Visitors were "Under Attack" from the off! They sent out an "SOS" to "Chiquitita" and the "Dancing Queen," "Nina, Pretty Ballarina" but they are know "Fernando" and met their "Waterloo!"

There is a reason for that. also a reason why Barcelona let him go, His attitude is STINKING. Last thing we need around our squad

I know u guys won't agree with me but I really hope we get bent. He is a good poacher and usually always gets 15+ a season which is what we so desperately need. Him, suarez, gerrard and Lucas would be amazing

I agree with you. Not sure he'd be my top choice of striker, but he'd give us another dimension with his pace and he certainly knows where the net is. Add in the fact that he'd probably love to join us and I don't really understand all the negativity

cos where is the dude??

people like tiote and cabaye from twente and lille were bought for LESS THAN 10M.....LESSSSS THAN 10M...
and those players are doing alright

so where are the bargains hmmm...where are the type of players he hooked up for spurs and arsenal..

Maybe ask this question after the January window?

cozinoz

Totally agree it has peeved me for years I would like to know why our scouts cannot find gems at low prices like other clubs do on a regular basis and bring them in, I would have to say the academy scouts at present seem to be doing a better job of talent searching cheers pk

We wanted all of Newcastle purchase's in the summer, but most of the deals fell apart due to those players having injuries or wanting too much money.

Instead we bought British. Although my TV is from Japan and so is my Fridge. Oranges I bought from the supermarket are from spain. I can;t really think of British products prob because its overpriced and bit rubbish when it comes to quality.

Obviously never heard of Cambridge Audio, Arcam or Bowers & Wilkins then?

Just watched the game back on lfc tv and the only thing I can say is that if we're playing carroll we need a left footed winger to play on the left and a right footed on the right and just keep crossing the ball in early for carrol to get on the end off.which ever side the ball is crossed from the opposite winger should be coming in at the back post for any over hit crosses.

King luis

This has been mentioned before, we are forever taking the ball to the byline and whipping it into the six yard box where a (usually on form) keeper and 3 defenders are surrounding Andy... BUT, Andy needs to make some early runs to get on the end of crosses. It's a 2 way street really!

Myk

I don't think we need to be crossing it all the time, it would be nice to have a little variety. I'd want a pacey right winger who'll cause some problems down that side, even if his service isn't the best. Then tell Downing to stop messing about passing backwards and sideways, and just get a bit of space then cross it in. The problem against City was not just the woeful supply to Carroll but the lack of support from anyone else getting in to the box. Henderson and Adam need to step up their game and get in to score some goals

One of the many disconcerting things I found in the independent commission's report was the frequent absence of a question mark when it quoted Suarez reply; 'Por que tu es negro.' This translates as 'Because you are black,' and takes away the meaning that Suarez claims when responding to Evra saying 'Don't touch me South American!'. With the question mark added, as in 'Por que tu es negro?' - 'Why? Because you are black?' it takes on an entirely different slant. I assume that the omission of the question mark was not intentional on the part of the report writers.
Elsewhere, I struggle to understand why Mr Haughan's statement that he overheard Alex Ferguson telling the referee that Suarez had called Evra a n****r on five ocassions somehow supports Evra's case as the report claims. Surely it only confirms what Mr Haughan heard!
Finally, I found myself asking why the report highlights Evra's look of shock and his subsequent charge towards the referee pointing his finger and then thumb at Suarez and saying 'Ref, he just called me black'. What caused this shock? None other than Saurez' questioning response referred to above. It certainly wasn't any of the 5 previous alleged incidents of racial abuse, which according to Evra's statement were far far more distasteful, particularly as he claimed he didn't realise negro meant black in Spanish, but something much worse, despite being a good Spanish speaker and curser! And strange then that he seemed to know what it meant when he did speak to the ref. But hey ho, his testimony was far more consistent and reliable!

HI Eds
just been looking up info on the 2 Moussa's ( sow and sissoko) From what i read they seem real possibilities in Jan ??

I can see Sow knows where the net is by his scoring record and Sissoko is a real strong , athletic player

What we lacked last night at city was genuine pace , do either of these 2 have that or who of our other possible signings are quick ?

YNWA

Reddog

I agree, we would benefit greatly from these 2 indeed. The quickest would however be the CSKA Moscow striker Doumbia. He would not only stretch defences but score plenty of goals and add flair up front. Either Sow or Doumbia should be bought IMO together with Sissoko or another young talented midfielder that can come in give us the edge in midfield from the start.

I like the way you and many other posters on this site want to sell every single player we bought in the summer, forgettin that Henderson and Carroll are under 23, and has been said on numerous occasions bought for 'potential' they might not be what LFC need right now, but they never will be either if they jus sit on the bench all the time. We dont need any clearout of any sorts, we jus need a few extra players to help, that is all.

If figured out the way of the new owners buying way. exept of carrol. Henry will make the club big and richer than ever again. if you look at how big and rich he maked red sox in just a few years , and now the redsox is the next richest baseball club in the US after Yankees. And if anyone have seen the movie moneyball, with brad pitt, you will figure out why Henry, comolli an KD bourght these player in the summer. its all about numbers. it will come good in the long run. KD will not buy a striker in this window who can make tricks and all that s**t, he will buy a player who has some best accuriassy % like fletcher, he is a man thats allways standing the right place at the right time. and maybe he come cheaper 10m for instead of 40m cavani with a wage bill like only MAN CITY and real madrid can give.

Hello Eds,
Why don't Liverpool give Andy Carroll back to Newcastle and take Ba or Ameobi as his replacement? Both faster with great strike, better with the ball. Is it possible? Liverpool need to get a great striker this month!! If they only knew last year what a poor deal they would make with Andy.
greetings from Tom from Poland {Ed002's Note - Sadly transfers do not work like that.}

Carroll needs confidence and support from true fans.
He is great protential

So was Babbel! {Ed001's Note - Babbel was one the best players we have had in recent years, a full German international and a superb defender was Markus. Very nice man too, shame about his illness. Not sure what he has to do with this thread though?}

Soz maybe spelt wrong,meant ryan! Markus was great till unwell {Ed001's Note - I gathered, sorry was just taking the michael.}

The FA are killing English football. Stupid decision not to rescind Joey Barton's red card after the equally stupid decision not to the rescind the Milijas red card. All red fans should show support for Barton and Milijas when they play at Anfield. Show the FA that real football fans know what is and isn't foul play.

Why would anyone want to give support for complete disgrace of a person Joey Barton? Vile spambag he is.

maka

Joey made a showing at the JFT96 House of Commons episode. He is opinionated. I'm not entirely sure how vile he is. {Ed001's Note - he is vile and opinionated.}

04 Jan 2012 20:54:02
Ahoy - having just spent two non refundable hours of my life reading the FA report, please can we refrain from posting anything about the decision regarding the 8 match ban. The evidence against Luis isn't concrete but there is no avenue to appeal and the sooner this is acknowledged and accepted the better the long term effect on the club will be.

The only controversial part of the report is Paragraph 83, Page 26 where it is alleges Mr Kuyt used a number of colourful words referring to Mr Evra's inability to stand up when tackled.

We all know from his previous movie appearance as Sloth Fratelli in The Goonies that the only things Dirk can say are "Yooouuu Guuuuuuyyyys" and "I love you CHUNK"

If you have opinions read the report, its on the FA website - just don't print it at work it will take ages.

Sessegnon - will provide better service to our strikers and add a goal threat from midfield
Soldado-clinical finisher
Moussa sissoko - to add some physical strength in midfield as well has drive

Out
Kuyt- great servant but time to move on with quality required in final third
Possibly maxi if we get the right offer

What The Odds Of Liverpool Fc Getting Luuk De Jong In January?

04 Jan 2012 20:04:11
Eds and fellow supporters

In todays Daily Mirror on page 17 is the following interesting article

The F.A Boss who sent a RACIST e-mail to friends is STILL working for the governing body.

Peter Brown forwarded the OFFENSIVE gag from his business account hours before Bulgarian fans hurdled Racist abuse at BLACK English players back in September

He was due to retire at the end of December but is STILL with the F.A to ensure a smooth handover to his successor.

Mr Brown 65 had made a public apology and offered to quit during an investigation.

However F.A BOSSES who recently banned Luis Suarez for 8 games following RACIST comments took NO ACTION against the Chief Executive.

A source said It's as though grass root s football has little appetite to CONFRONT RACISM which is shameful.

Bedfordshire F.A Chairman Richard Robinson said Peter will commence his delayed retirement later in 2012.

DOUBLE STANDARDS AND HYPOCRITES IS WHAT I SAY

Alan50

Would like Gordon Taylor's view on the above article,seeing he has so much to say in cutting out RACISM

04 Jan 2012 19:57:49
Also the reason the club are being so supportive towards Suarez is because they believe Evra not to be telling the full truth..

Cheers

Macca
------------------------------------

I still can't get my head around it. One of the main reasons for Suarez being found guilty is that Evra was more consistent, but it is obvious that someone can consistently lie.

Manchester United are also probably more familiar with the system, which probably helped, because of the Evra/Chelsea groundsman incident last year.

My personal opinion is that Evra is a bit of troublemaker, probably spotting an opportunity by being able to either change the context or the wording for it to seem racist from his account.

3 players liverpool need to challenge for the title, right winger- boudebouz,ramiez,hazard, or equivalent someone who can beat there man with pace and skill, cam- moussa sissoko, kigawa, eriksen, im goin 4 moussa sissoko who is a quality box to box player, striker- soldado, cavani, luuk de jong, or someone who is a clinical finisher. if we get these 3 early january i have no doubt we will see liverpool fc thrashing teams, becos defence and gk is pretty good, jus 3 major signings away from being a force once again.RedTurk

Dirk Kuyt has reportedly been offered a lifeline by Turkish side Galatasaray, after seeing his Euro 2012 hopes fade under Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool. A bid of around £10 million is thought be enough to prize the versatile forward from the Reds, who may well be willing to cash-in before the Dutchman's contract runs out in 2013.

Suggestions had been made that the hardworking ex-Feyenoord man would consider his position at the club at the end of the season, but with Liverpool struggling for goals, it would be far from surprising if they decided to make room in their squad for a more prolific player.

Regardless of his potential worth to other teams, offloading a player who has seen his best years, and at such a reasonable price (the same one he was brought in for at his peak by Rafael Benitez in 2006) is an undeniably attractive financial option – one that may not present itself so generously come the next transfer window.

Kuyt has been a mainstay in Liverpool and Holland squads for several years now, and is considered a Kop favourite by many, but has struggled for form this season. At Anfield he has found himself most frequently occupying a position on the bench rather than the right-wing, severely reducing his chances of making the Holland team in Poland and Ukraine this summer.

The Liverpool bench-warmer had been the subject of interest from Inter Milan at the beginning of Roy Hodgson's ill-fated spell in charge, but opted to stay on Merseyside. As ineffective as any player during the now West Brom manager's time, Kuyt enjoyed a notable rejuvenation along with the rest of the squad under Dalglish in the second half of the 2010/11 season. With Jordan Henderson often preferred in the starting line up this year however, he has found first team chances limited, scoring just one goal.

Galatasaray's interest may well have come at an ideal time for both Kuyt and Liverpool; at 31, he, and the club, will be hard pressed to find a better offer in the closing years of his career. ( Shanklys statue)

04 Jan 2012 19:35:15
1)first of all kuyt is not good enough to be in the starting eleven
2) bellamy should be starting all the games on the right and dowing on the left.
3) the reason for carroll failure is because we dont have quality service to him. and when he get it he has no self belief and confidence
4) skertl should not be in the defence because when he goes foward and he reaches the half way line he passess the ball back instead of foward. carragher should be there all the time.
5) agger is very confident and he is good coming foward.
6) enrique needs to delivery better crossess in the box, but he is a good player.
7) we need a very good right wing player in this window as well as a veryyyyyyyyy good striker. avergae players will not be good enough
8) man city was not in any chamions league when they started to but great players an now about two years later the will win the league. so kenny take a hint and you have to attract them great players in this window or else kiss 4th spot good by
9) we started yesterday on 11 points of first place. now had we wn that game yesterday we would have been 8 points off and going into the last 18 games i am sure come on #38 game we would of probably been in contention for first spot. sorry kenny you miss a trick yesterday you should have started bellamy and gerrard. you have three subs and i am sure if they were not fit you could have sub them. yes we are 9 points better than last season but city is 10 points better. had we won yesterday the tite race would have open up. city would have gotten 1 point in the last 3 games.

please kenny anw john splash the cash and do something to get anfield a place where opponents would not want to be come next home game. we need 2-3 greattttttt signings. once we give them players good salaries there is no reason why they will not come. city did it and now they have the luxury of that.
we really need a great right winger and a great striker . and if possible maybe gary cahil is a surplus but he may worth taking . adam johnson is my right winger and i would go for cavani or lavezzi

Quick question for Macca, you said bent wont join, my question is, are we interested in him like skysports said we are or are skysports making it up?

Trust your gut! {Ed001's Note - how many times do people need telling that Sky Sports make up numerous stories (and have been caught out a number of times doing so) to stir up a betting market for SkyBet. They even spam the pages of these sites on a regular basis with mentions of the odds for nonsense bets, which we have to delete. Sky are a Murdoch enterprise and are as reliable as other such Murdoch business ventures, like the S*n.}

Don't understand the anti-Bent flak. Well actually I do understand it, because he's another British player and we'd have to pay over the odds, but I don't agree with it. In my opinion he's just the sort of player we need. Bent and a pacey winger would suit me just fine

The only reason i would criticise this signing and im sure most other fans who would, is becos we bought that guy andy carroll who is built similar and for £35mil, instead we should of bought bent from the start, now if we sell andy carroll and buy bent then thats fine by me, then we could buy another striker to play with him and suarez.RedTurk

Evra's word VS Suarez's

The club is doing the right thing backing him but also seeing the ban out.

Snowbed

Suarez played in Holland for 5 years, Surely he knows the word is offensive in europe, hes been proved guilty of making racial comments, i think he wont stay in england because hes gonna get some major stick from other fans and hes a hot head

Well everyone knows this is one of those school room spats. It's very childish and no one comes off well. He said that, no he said this or that. They are sad affairs. Sometimes one of these people has to be grow up and be the bigger person. Patrice Evra version of events changed as did Luis Suarez under investigation.

Only these two people will know what went on and what they really said to each other, but my impression seems to be that Patrice Evra instigated the whole thing. Looking to cause trouble.

It reminds me of the Anelka world cup affair. Some people are only happy when they are causing someone else pain or hard time. Evra didn;t help his country at the world cup. He just saw it as a excuse to stick his big nose in.

I did find it strange that Evra can say some nasty things about Luis Suarez sister, but "plays the racist card" when luis said some things in a heated augment.

Like it would of been fine for these two people to say derogatory things about each others mothers. {Ed002's Note - Clearly someone else who read the headlines and not the report.}

04 Jan 2012 18:58:20
As a fan would you buy Liverpool bonds? why would institutional investor buy these bonds? Only a fan would buy something so foolish.

{Ed002's Note - The bonds are purchased as they offer a preferential return for the investor but cost less to the issuer than a loan from the banks. It is a simple case of being a, potentially, better way of borrowing money.}

Yes, I would think about buying bonds in the club I love. I would totally welcome the widening of the ownership base, working towards the Barca-style fan ownership. Wouldn't be perfect but having a club owned by fans is always going to be better than having the owner concentrated into the hands of a few wealthy benefactors (even if our current owners have so far proved themselves extremely positive and honest).

04 Jan 2012 18:51:26
ed do u no any information on targets or are we all guessing and your useless?

04 Jan 2012 18:42:25
The FA boss who sent a racist email to his friends is still working for English football's governing body.

Peter Brown forwarded the offensive gag from his business account in September, just hours before Bulgarian fans hurled racist abuse at black England players.

He was due to retire at the end of last month, but he is still at the Bedfordshire FA to ensure a "smooth handover" to his successor, Keith Stroud.

oh dear {Ed002's Note - You of course skipped a relevant paragraph about his public apology and offer to resign. So, yes this part story is true.}

So your saying Ed's that if Suarez had apologised he would not have got banned at all or got a lesser ban

I DON'T THINK SO

Alan50 {Ed002's Note - No I did not say that. What I said was the poster deleted a paragraph from the report before posting it.}

Wonder wether he was suspended without pay for eight weeks? Thought not...
ND

E002, why is the paragraph left out in your opinion relevant?you obviously feel that the apology is either part of the reason or THE reason for the F.A taking NO ACTION

Alan50 {Ed002's Note - I don't think anything of the sort, it is a matter of sensible reporting a quotation from elsewhere not to delete parts that may not suit the purpose of the poster - which are clearly to get at the FA for some reason unbeknown to me.}

I sit here today as a disgusted Liverpool fan. Our club is well supported world wide. Supported by fans of different ethnic origin, religion, sex etc. We are loved around the world but no more. Kenny Dalglish has also been a hero of mine, they way he handled the aftermath of the Hillsborough trajedy spoke volumes for the man. He is clearly wrong in this case.

The FA have not been great in the handling of this case, Evra himself has not covered himself in glory but whatever we feel Suarez used a racist word on the field of play. Whether he said 3,4 or 5 times he still admitted to saying it once. KD surely must realise it is wrong. Cultural differences is no excuse

Liverpool FC should apologise with immediate effect. Our reputation is in tatters. I would ask that every Liverpool fan write or email to Ian Ayre airing our disgust. Our reputation is worth more than any multi million pound signing in January.

I will refuse to step inside Anfield until we resolve this issue.

The rest of us real liverpool fans are over the moon a so called fan like you wont ever step inside anfield again, But i also suspect you aren't and never have been a fan of liverpool football club !

Looks to me that this knob listens too much to Adrian Durham, you complete numpty, thank god you wont be going to Anfield again there will be a spare seat for a proper fan......

CM68

Makes me wonder who you would react if someone made some derogatory comments about your sister.

ChrisE {Ed002's Note - It wasn't about his sister - you need to read the report.}

Our reputation is'nt in tatters....

Don't get into this with ed2 your onto a loser. I talk from experience!!lol

We all have read the report Ed i suggest you read it again... {Ed002's Note - Why would I need to do that? If you concluded that from the report then there is no hope of you understanding the rest of it.}

Told ya!!! {Ed002's Note - It puts an enormous amount in to context.}

So you would refuse to show any leniency towards a man who had broken the law by crossing a road at the wrong place, even if he was blind and couldn't see the warning signs?

Is there no room for tolerance within the laws that are supposed to promote tolerance?
Would you turn the fight against racism into a rabid witchhunt that is forever seeking fresh victims, regardless of their ignorance of these laws?

I'll have your tickets if you're not interested in going to the games!

Hey ed002,
I'm nearly as popular as you today !
Lol.
The Real KB (aka "the great kb" !) {Ed002's Note - I noticed that. You want to say something contraversial like "Jelavic won't be joining" and then the teenies will be after you as well.}

04 Jan 2012 18:08:17
Luuk aint available in Jan , Only QPR has submitted firm interest in Bent , Podolski NOT moving .. so now ED who are the possible strikers we might go for ? {Ed002's Note - Has to be Cavani, Neymar and (not or, and) Higuain is what I hear.}

All you reds did you listen to Tommy Docherty today on radio talking about Shankly?
Docherty had signed Tony Hately (Mark Hately's dad)
Doc said "Tony could trap a ball further than I could kick it" so he tried to sell him.
Shanks phoned up to enquire the price, Doc said "100,000 would not buy him" Shanks said "yes, I am one of those 100,000"
Doc then said "he is good in the air" Shanks said" so is Douglas Bader, but I would not buy him either"
Shanks and his "wisdom" so sadly missed. Timalloy

Here he is,everybody's best friend Timmy. Probably just come from Utd page giving quotes and quips about Sir Matt Busby. And the point is?
Jonson. {Ed002's Note - Shankley did of course buy Tony Hateley.}

Shanks wanted hateley so tommy bought him as he did colin waldron but in true lfc tradition we bought hateley because we had previous scouting reports, i was with hateley at the lfc versus notts forest game at forest i did not know him he just came to see us but went to chelsea instead.

Evening all, if anyone is interested about how Henry & co come about using stats on players to build teams. Then watch the film Money ball, and by the looks of it some on this site you love abit of drama... It also shows the amount of abuse Billy Beene had in the early stages of rebuilding his team, message! And we get a cameo from Henry(charactor) at the end. All the best.

KNEE JERK {Ed002's Note - But note that moneyball as a concept only applies to baseball and is a complete red herringin respect of football.}

I agree ed, just interesting to see were he got the idea from, all the best.

KNEE JERK

Billy beene did not win the ring he wanted but respect to him for not taking the money offered to him to move to the red sox

Well doesn't Arsene Wenger use opti stats to keep a eye on players in all leagues.

Its something all football teams needs to look at in order to see what is going on with players. If some players have higher passing rates it could show you a better player from a average player.

All kinds of stats may tell you something about that player. Football stats may be applied to football business. Its all about identifying good players from average ones. Still investment in a major scouting network may be the best way to go.

Stats are all well and good, but they dont take into account how a player will fit in and compliment a team. The only player it could work with is a goal i.e Penalty saves, set pieces. All the best.

KNEE JERK

Also its hard to compare stats from say spl to Epl because of the standard of football etc.

One from each of the following would do me for this window.

Midfielders.
S. Defour
E. Banega
R. Montolivo
S. Canales (would have to be a summer signing as on loan)
I. Affelay.

Strikers.
E. Lavezzi
S. Jovetic
R. Soldado
G. Higuian
L. De Jong.

Would love Canales in the summer, but would take Montolivo/Afellay (although he is injured) and Soldado/Lavezzi as striker. Hopefully enough to secure top four this season.

Ed I'm aware Afellay was seriously injured in September time but do you know how long before he's back?

Jonesred
{Ed002's Note - He may be available for the last month or so but I would think it is unlikely he will be risked.}

Liverpool should try for jovetic and de jong really good players.

ACHILLES.

Think the idea was one from each.

According to a source more reliable than "Macca," Liverpool are currently negotiating a deal with a donkey to replace carrlol. The donkey will be the first liverpool signing of the January. Donkey has been bought to inject some pace in the attacking third which flops like carrlol cannot.

Shishi!

Genius..... Did you think that all by yourself or do you have script writers?

Honestly mate, at no point while you were writing this did you not think 'this is not funny'

Do the eds of anyone know the reasons why LFC think the ruling is unfair. It's not rocket science to determine that a multi million pound club would not be so staunch in their defence if there was not some grounds to it. I think the truth needs to come out even if the club don't do it themselves. Macca - any chance of info? What about wikileaks ;o) {Ed002's Note - No we don't know - try the same question on the "Conspiracy" page.}

Is the fa cup game against Oldham shown on tv. Thanks

Eds you have constantly said we have no interest in Darren bent but all I want to know is all this speculation real or fake.
Thanks

KopEndDannyLFC {Ed002's Note - I have said constantly that I know of no interest in Darren Bent. Answering if "speculation" is "real" or "fake" is rather more difficult. Would you accept that I see the speculation as conjectural.}

04 Jan 2012 17:41:00
Hi Ed's and everybody else,

I know that the Ed's know of no interest from LFC in Bent, and because the Ed's are almost always right, I would say that his signing would be unlikely at this time.

However, if we were to sign him, what would he think of LFC, most of the fans already despise him. Many of you may not want him, many of you do not want Adam, or Hendo, or Big Andy, but unless they have the support of the fans, they are never, ever going to settle at the club. Andy and Hendo are only young, and week in week out fans throw hatred at them, both of blogs, sites like this and at matches. No wonder they haven't performed to the highest standered yet.

On another note, reflecting back at last nights match, I believe that Andy Carroll was to MoM. Many of you will disagree, but, he ran all night, looked stronger and fitter than ever. He made many runs, at good angles, but received rubbish all night long. I for one believe that he has been very good in the past few matches, and its only a matter of time before he scores. Fingers crossed!

However, although I never try to criticize players, Glen Johnson has really annoyed me. We know that he cannot really defend even though he has improved, but going forward he has been appalling recently. He goes forward, either passes it to the opponents, or crosses it to the first defender. Also, when there is space for him, he doesn't run into it, and gives no options, and when there are no options, he attempts runs, where only Xavi or Alonso could find him. I believe he should be sold, for almost anything this January, just so that Kelly can play. He always beats his man, and floats a good ball in. And he can defend!

Rant over, sorry guys!

Burnsy

We need a STRIKER,AMF,RW dont hav to go daft in this transfer window them are the only areas we are lacking in!

STRIKER - luuk de jong or n im gonna say Alexander pato why not lol.

AMF - Joao moutinho were are struggling for creativity in the final 3rd.

RIGHT WING - Adelino vierinha from PAOK someone who can actually cross a ball.

ACHILLES. {Ed002's Note - Vierinha agreed to move to Wolfsberg a couple of months back and has completed his move this week.}

Liverpool need a fox in the box and i cant think of non other than Raul (ex real madrid player) play his football in shalke 04 now. Ok he is old, but he is still banging in the goals for them. He would score and create more goals than carrol. Very inteligent and cold blooded player in the box. Would be a cheap option to consider. What u think eds? {Ed002's Note - I rather think that Raul will be staying at Schalke and I would guess his wages would be a major stumbling block.}

Decent call that though.

All these people who think liverpool are going to bring in big names there wrong liverpool are not prestigious enough anymore, Dalglish is failing in his aim to come in the top 4. Liverpool are set to sign Steven Flecther from Wolves good signing as KK wants to strengthen his attacking options with Suarez out for 7 more games , Liverpool WILL NOT sign big names like Higuian or Soldado so stop mentioning it. fact

Fenway sports group a giant in sports investment & LFC an iconic footballing brand all around the world. But, according to you both parties are willing to ditch ambition & be comfortable with mediocrity. Sir, you are an idiot, FACT.

dd

Big names can be a risk and FSG dont want to spend like they did on Suarez and still not get a major goal threat. Suarez is superb, but needs a counterpart to help slot the chances in that he makes. I think we need a quick striker that can hold on his own for a month then team with suarez

Hi eds I was wandering if it is possible to sign players befor the transfer window officially opens then make it official when the window opens or do negotiations have to wait til the window is open. No real reason for the question I was just wondering. {Ed002's Note - They cannot sign as all of the paperwork needs to be processed, but all negotiations can be completed and fees agreed at anytime.}

To save us spending a fortune on a striker and that player suddenly realising they are at a massive club and they panick and just completly stop scoring goals, why dont we give Adam Morgan a chance? - he is young but so was fowler and owen - his goalscoring record is just as good and in some cases better. im convinced with the chances we create he would finish more than anything we have now. We gave flano & robo ago and they didnt let us down. - what is there to lose? - if he doesnt score then its good experience but if he does we could have new fowler.
Big Red Man

He may be on the bench for the Oldham game, all the best.

Seriously? - ill be happy if he gives him the last 30mins etc - didnt fowler start similar and scored? :)

i really hope someoone ends up calling talksport drive to back liverpool and not just to slate them!

When a radio show like TalkSport continually attack a football club, it's because they realise that this club can single handedly raise their profile and more important their listening figures.

I listen to TalkSport, occasionally, during the rafa era even called in. What you have to remember is, the "non-scripted" radio station is particularly clever at leading an audience. This means they will cut you off of interrupt at a point they feel held their cause and direction.

Adrian Durham is a sensationalist. Simple as that, he knows that we have buckets of pride in our club. We'll call and defend the King and our club. It's in vain though. They will twist your words. They have a huge set of anti Liverpool presenters. Alan Brazil, Ronnie Irani, Andy Jacobs, Mark Daggers, Adrian Durham... The list goes on. As much as I have no problem with Mickey Quinn's affection for Liverpool, it's no coincidence that the voice of Liverpool on TalkSport is of a more comic figure, with the lack of ability to eloquently get his point across.

Alas, let the siege mentality continue. We have to remember where the city of Liverpool ranks in importance with this country.

So, by all means call TalkSport, big be steadfast in your opinion. Get it across, strong. Don't forget that should never believe anything the media report without at least questioning it. It's a business., at the moment the drinks are on us.

D-Day (1892)

Well said D-Day.

Durham is very clever at contradicting himself without it being too obvious. His opinions of Rooney over the last two years have more holes than Swiss cheese.

Dirks Engine Room

Not only do they have too much time on air to spout utter rubbish but there are too many adverts constanatly blaring out at you....LOAD OFF TOSH... Tobiwan

You are right mate...it's the Sun's mouth-piece. Adrian Durham DID follow Liverpool as a kid and apparently is now mates with Carra after he offered him a straightner live on air! I'm sure I saw him in the Liverpool club shop a few months back. Just switch off.

DaveyBootle

What talksport is clever at and everyone falls for it is the presenters take contradictory views - a definite planned event ! quite simply they will argue black is white one day and the next day the same white is black ( please don't confuse this with racism btw) Especially on the Durham show the extremes of views between the presenters are just beyond belief sometime. With regard to the Liverpool haters I tend to disagree with the Brazil arguement abd Durham has been accused of being a Stevie G lover... but as I said Durham will say anything to attract listeners, REDBOY

04 Jan 2012 17:01:45
Hi Eds, don't you think all that link with a player from Villa could be about Liverpool's interest in someone else than Darren Bent? Like Gabriel Agbonlahor for example?
Maybe buying him would have more sens as he can play on both wings and as a number 9, am I wrong?

Hope Liverpool directors are considering it, because at 24M, we should better buy a decent player, or even both Bent&Agbonlahor, but not the first only.

Waiting for your answer ;)

I know I'll get slated for this, and with good reason, but I'll share it nonetheless. I really think we should go back in for Torres. I don't believe, purely in ability terms, that the lad has lost it all. Be honest, to most of us he was a demi-god, the perfect centre forward. Power, pace, Fowler-esque finisher, great in the air. I think all this boy needs is some love and Steven gerrard. Now I know he doesn't deserve either. I could have swung for him when the 'moving to a big club' filth dropped from his lips, but we shouldn't let hurt feelings stop us from clinically running the rule over him. I don't think he's finished at all, I think given the right surroundings, the right company and the right arm around his shoulders he will flourish again. I understand 1000 per cent why the club probably feel they wouldn't touch him again with a bargepole, but I just sense in my guy that we're missing a trick here

I would like to point out one thing.
Commolis signings
Enrique- Quality
Suarez- Quality
Coates- Will be quality
Kennys signings
Downing- crap
Henderson- improving
Adam- decent
Carrol- crap dosent do him justice

Enrique was very much a Dalglish signing I think. Suarez a Hodgson signing if you believe Ol' Roy!

I think ppl who slate kenny and the team maybe don't understand what's going on.

Kenny and his staff have literally turned the team around.

Ok, so we're not quite title contenders but a year ago when kenny 1st took over, we were looking at a mid table finish. Now we're 3pts from 4th and playing much better football.

And for those who keep slating the british signings and pine for brazilians, argentines and spaniards, u need to understand something- it's pretty clear kenny is trying to rebuild the team and he has bought all these players because he wants a british spine in the team.

The flair players will be brought in once the spine is settled in.

A year ago, we looked on the way down. Now we're actually doing ok. We're right in the mix for 4th and have practically outplayed everybody (except that game vs spuds).

If we'd had a bit more luck, we'd be even higher up the table.

How much money did city spend and how long b4 they got into the top 4? Kenny has spent much less and is threatening for top 4 within a year.

My point is, stop bashing the boss and the players.

We have every chance of securing top 4 and everybody has actually done well so let's get behind the team in full force.

For those who are unhappy and want immediate success, i'm sorry but it won't happen.

Rmbr ok? Our target this season has always been top 4 and if possible, a cup.

And both are still well within our reach, so stop the slating and start supporting!:-)

You can't compare with under-performers last season and big-spending City.. MU & Arsenal didn't spent much.. if we want to move forward we should put higher comparison. You know what? too much excuses declined LFC in the last 20 years

Very well said 100% agree with you spot on mate. A lot of so calked fans seem to forget where we have come from and expect to be in the top 4 straight away. Alsky

Chelski and arsenal are crap this season thate the reason your up there,they have droped down to your level,you have not raised the bar

What are you on about where we have come from, our best time for a long time was under Rafa, he had one bad season and everyone called for his head, but when kenny does it everyone cries give him time. Say what you want about Rafa but he has trophies to back up he's a good manager in this day and age.

Agree 100% under rafa we were very good but he didnt help himself when he let xabi go an they abelora for 6 million this guy was at least a 12 to 15 million pound player. he then bought aqualiani enough said an glen who is jus as bad cant defend although has been better this season il admit. but we are improving we will have to buy class players instead of world class players to get us to the champs league once there we can then attract the players we would all want to see. we just have to give the lads all the support we can an wel get there sooner rather than later.

belfast red adam

When I said where we have come from I meant the Roy Hodgson days......... You obviously thought I meant the Rafa or better still Souness days. Are you trying to Tell me KK has not improved since coming in as manager? That is what I meant so use a little part of brain and leave a name when you reply back to my comment. By the way I had nothing against Rafa, I thought he was a great manager & appreciated everything he has done for the club.

Were paying nothing for him because he is not signed and mcleish said he is staying its only gossip trust me.....irish kopite

04 Jan 2012 15:51:50
I think we should stop deluding ourselves, as clearly our defence is not quite as good as we would like to think, well certainly against top opposition. What is the point of having a good defence if you can't score any goals, it just means more draws to come. Unless a quality young striker and attacking mid is added soon, we will continue to struggle during Suarez's absence.
Food for thought.

The goals were down to individual errors, not poor defensive organisation (although Johnson marking Toure should not happen) I just hope the hiding we got doesn't automatically result in Carragher coming back in, as our defence has looked solid.

RedSG

Defence includes the goal keeper as well.
We had almost 20 min against 10 men, couldn't score but actually conceded. Fact remains, a solid defence without goals at the other end means draws, and 1 point per game.
At this stage we have drawn almost 40% of our games, point made.

Defence is fine - we faced the most prolific scoring team in the league on their home ground where in the year 2011 they got 52 out of a possible 54 points.

This stuff happens but we all know we're not at City's level just yet... we gotta accept it and look to build.

04 Jan 2012 15:49:59
Don't buy Darren Bent, it's this policy of buying british again, so far it does'nt seemed to have worked ( Carroll, Downing, Henderson and Adam). The talk is a price of 24 million, for that price you could get Soldado or huntelaar, i know who i would rather have. Never mind what it says on their passport just buy the best (not bent).

That's OK if Soldado or Huntelaar wants to come, but what if they don't and Bent can't wait to play for the Liverbird? I'm not a big Bent fan, although I have a signed ball of his (won it in a raffle at eldest son's footie tournament a few years ago!) but if he comes for decent money and bangs them in, I'll be happy!

Keith

So just cause Bent would jump at the chance to come to Liverpool that gives him preference, alot of players would love the chance to play for Liverpool, of course in a perfect world everybody would want to play for Liverpool but that's not how it works. If you want the best then do everything in your power to get them and if their not sure about it then Comoli should convince them and prove to them that this is the best place for them, after all that's his job.

04 Jan 2012 15:49:58
Alright i dont know what you guys will make of it...but Darren Bent stayed the Marriott and Albert Hotel in Manchester...no other Aston Villa players were there with him.

liverpool nedd to spend about 60 mil in january: soldado 17m, lavezzi 25-28m, montolivo because he is as good as de rossi for 8m and thats only gonna cost £55m maximum and napoli already got eduardo vargas to cover for lavezzi

What do you think eds {Ed002's Note - The club will not be able to spend that amount without raising it from elsewhere.}

No chance we are laughing stock when it comes to buying players

I think our team has improved vastly over the last 12 months. I am shocked by the sceptic fans who rant on about how our team has not changed at all and will finish 6th. Have they not seen how well we have done to replace players on ridiculous wages who barely started at all last season. We now have a stronger squad comprised of individuals wanting to play for our club. I think iour main problem is our obvious inability to be clinical and efficient in front of goal. But I think over the january and summer transfer window we can resolve this issue.

Hopefully at the start of next season we will have a team that resembles the following line-up:

--------------Reina---------------
---Kelly--Skrtel--Agger--Enrique---
-----------Lucas---Sissoko--------
---Suarez-------------G.Ramirez---
---------Soldado----Carroll--------
Subs:
Doni, Robinson, Coates, Henderson, Gerrard, Downing, Adam, Spearing

I would have have Soldado up front with Carroll being the clinical finisher, with Suarez playing as the creative player free to roam the pitch. Hopefully Lucas will have recovered from his injury and come back stronger alongside Sissoko (playing the role as attacking midfielder). The back four are similar to how we started this season. Kelly instead of Johnson as I don't see JOhnson staying at the club for much longer as his contract issues.

Ins:
Roberto Soldado
Gaston Ramirez
Moussa Sissoko

Outs:
Fabio Aurelio
Glen Johnson
Dirk Kuyt
Maxi Rodriquez
Joe Cole
Alberto Aquilani

KennyD JFT96

You been playing football manager again? Carroll isnt a clinical fibiher, hes a battering ram

I cant agree more this wfect teamould be per

What about Bellamy you fool!

Spend nearly 50 mil in the summer only to have the majority as bench warmers. I'm so glad your no in charge of the transfers. FACT.

First of all it's great to see that you can attempt to disregard what I've written without having the decency to sign off your name.

Secondly I was refering to Soldado as the clinical finisher playing alongside Carroll and I am definitely not being farstretched and 'playing Football Manager'; as 3 individuals over two transfer windows is hardly unusual. All three of the players listed are potential targets who we have had watched and have been associated with us.

Thirdly, Bellamy was purchased by Kenny as a short-term purchase to support our attack. He is coming to an age were he is unable to be an auotmatic starter so thats why he isn't in the line-up I've posted.

Lastly, last summer's acquisitions were purchased in the aim to acheive Champions League qualification or as future prospects. If Champions League is attained this season, then we are bound to buy players of high calire to cope with competing in the Champions League. To you they may be seen as bench warmers, to me they are seen as squad strength and contenders for positions.

Eds,

You seem to be dodging the Bent rumours today, is there something your'e not telling us or simply dont know on this one!

Cheers {Ed002's Note - We are not dodging anything. I have explained exactly what I know at least a couple of times. There is no need to do it anymore until something changes.}

If you actually use the search bar and just type in Bent, not as hard as it sounds you will find that Ed002 has answered several questions regarding Bent. When asked earlier today about Defoe & Bent Ed002 stated neither will be joining. Things are subject to change of course but again according to Ed002 only QPR have made a firm offer. Now I know who I trust more as a credible source when it comes to a choice between Sky Sports or the Eds & Macca.

What is the problem with people on here? They don't want Bent why? The lad scores goals which is what we need at the moment.

after watching last nights game just wondering where we go from here. how many of our squad would get in city,utd, arsenal chelsea even spurs side at moment,not many.our transfer budget was spent on below average players .adam 8m to take corners and odd free kick and hack at players .henderson 20m we only bought him because utd were after him what a joke. carroll 35m who thought up that fee worth 4m at best no touch lacks fitness moves break down every time hes involved.downing17m no end product comes back infield every time.we are years of europe unless we win fair play league unlikely after suarez. at best we are mid table side going nowhere. i honestly think kenny lost plot .promote stevey clarke now before its to late.it is worst side i have seen in many a year,one dissilutioned fan seeing his team becoming laughing stock

Mate, if you're not a Utd fan as I suspect you are, then you should become one pronto.

How can anyone even disagree, the table and results speak for themselves, denying that doesnt make us any better, just blind hope.

We gonna be lucky to finish mid table,papering over very big cracks at moment ,two man team suarez( dont know for how much longer)& enrique need to get goal scorer. midfield getting found out now henderson plays like crab adam to slow,lucas main man when fit gerrard to injury prone .need 4/5 quility players into get anywhere near europe.if no one comes in jan we going nowhere

Original poster is right abt carrol n downing. What a waste. But hendo is a good buy imo.

friends for a while something happens with Liverpool Football Club ... starts to fall and hurt me very much, teams like Tottenham, Newcastle to mention CITY ... have become more powerful than us. We can no longer keep up with united ... .. Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham and Newcastle soon will leave us behind. Liverpool is one of the top seven teams that are based on a typical English game without dribbles without imagination ...,,. Only with long balls. to spend money on players who are not very good English. city., Arsenal have players from Argentina, Brazil Spain ... creative players. Liverpool must buy Brazilians, Argentines ,spanish. agreed or diseagreed. athos from romania .

In are starting line up we have:
Pepe Reina (Spanish)
Johnson (English)
Agger (Danish)
Skrtel (Slovakian)
Enrique (Spanish)
Lucas (Brazilian)
Adam (Scottish)
Gerrard (English)
Downing (English)
Suarez (Uruguayan)
Carroll (English)

Now, a team playing in the British division to have five out of eleven players in the 1st 11 is good.

There is a quota stating how many British players are needed in a squad.

KT! {Ed002's Note - It is effectively the other way around - a limit of 17 non-home grown over 21.}

04 Jan 2012 15:14:22
The FA had them over a barrel so Liverpool did'nt really have a choice did they? If this evidence had of been produced in a court of law the case would have been throwin out, it's all down to probability and taking Evra's word over Suarez. Liverpool is a great club, Kenny Dalglish was great footballer/manager knowin and respected all over the world do you honestly think they would tarnish the name of Liverpool Football Club simply because Suarez is a good footballer, i don't think so!

It was not a court of law!! All they needed was reasonable doubt one way or the other, and luis gave them reason to doubt his statement simple as that. The powers that be had to be seen to be doing somthing about this issue. And so a headline grabbing 8 game ban did the trick. We have to suck it up, and move on!
I feel Torres back to LFC rumours would be welcome change of pace.....As if. All the best.

I tend to give the site a break after a defeat, anybody who is sensible can tell we are heading in the right direction.

We dominated City, but, with the talent they have up top they can punish teams.

People saying Reina was at fault for the 2nd goal are idiots, the marking from Johnson on Yaya was terrible.

We've had a problem stopping corners that go to the near post all season and it needs to be adressed.

KT!

U say we dominated city (i was there) - yet we lose 3-0, thats the problem with this team, we play some good stuff for long periods but end up with nothing, that is not gonna get us anywhere...

Im an Arsenal fan and I have to admit with a bit more luck Liverpool could have got something. Though im not disappointed the more points you drop the better for us.

hi eds, great job putting up with all the "i want the whole team fired after one loss fans", id have kicked in my computer in a long time ago. haha

serious question time though, cant see the darren bent rumours ccoming true, but whats your feelings on it? if he is going to get 20 goals in the season i dont care where they come from, they could play reina up front if he's gonna score.
thanks again!

Hi Eds

Im prepared to get shot down by the YNWA loyalists but here we go, I think we need more than a 'goalscorer' as such, I think we need a new manager, i always wondered how we would do once the team had stopped playing on the back of the return of 'king kenny' euphoria, as then we would see what tactical nouse, what media prescence he has (i will leave the media part alone)...to me we are a better version of Tony Mowbrays West Brom from the prem a few yrs ago (we know what happened to them - which im not suggesting will happen to us at all, but playing some decent stuff and not getting results isnt going to get us anywhere) we have a good squad but we need key positions filling, ie a real prescence in the centre of mid, looking at yaya last night, he showed someone, with pace, power, passion and a touch of class..so i wont ask about manager rumours, as i doubt there are any, but i was wondering if we have any serious interest in any real quality centre mids

cheers eds

Ray

We don't need a new manager, Kenny is the right man for the job.

We need maybe 3/4 top players, mine would be De Jong, Dyer & Sissoko.

Please don't mention passion when taliking about a player who is only at a club for the money.

KT!

Are you red turk reborn The KING is the KING and always will be he's building the empire again from scratch it will take time but we will get there and if these darren bent rumours are true i will welcome him and support him like any other liverpool player and so should you. Red Kenny

Soldado, De Jong, Johnson, Sissoko

J

Are we not all "YNWA loyalists" Ray mate? The result flattered City, big style. We made 3 mistakes and we were, punished for them. Reading some of the posts after last nights game, is confusing to me.

We were playing CITY away, who have not dropped a point, in the league at home ALL season. To read some of the bullsh*t posts on here, you would think it was Bolton, Blackburn, Wigan who beat us. We controlled the game, from the 1st whistle, until the final whistle, against one of the best sides, in the world.

Ray, you say about Yaya Toure (who is a fantastic player, I agree) but apart from Glen letting him get an extra yard on him for the 2nd goal, what did he do? Yaya Toure only starting playing well when Spearing came off, didn't you notice that?

We all know we need more fire power up front, we've all been saying it for weeks. But anyone who thought we were 'terrible' 'awful' etc, etc, last night, havn't got a f*cking clue about football. Our midfield especially Jay and Hendo, had Barry, Toure etc, in their back pocket. Hence the f*cking reason we controlled the game. But again anyone with any football knowledge, would tell you this.

Some people slagging Downing, Adam, Hendo, Carroll off after last nights performance, are wrong IMO. You should be slagging off Kuyt (shouldn't have started), Reina, Enrique (worse game for us so far) and Glen Johnson, who should never be starting ahead of Kelly. But IF you are LFC fans, then you wouldn't or shouldn't, be slagging any players off. But it has and will be a common thing on here after a defeat, or a draw.

City beat us 3-0 last night BUT yet one of their CB's, gets MOTM? What does that say about the rest of City's team, even though they won 3-0? Or on the other hand, what does that say about OUR performance?

3 mistakes and Vincent Kompany beat us last night. Were was Silva, Barry, Agureo (did nothing whole game, so Pepe had to help him), Dzeko. Yaya Toure like I said only played well, when Jay (played very well) went off.

Some of the posts on here after a draw or defeat, are unjustified and uncalled for. Your post is perfect example of that Ray mate.

Cheers

Blair - your sign off is longer than some of your posts now! lol.

JRG

Well said Blair, people maoning to a defaet at City are stupid.

Wee Jay had Silva and Yaya taken out the game and if it wasn't for Kompany playing out of his skin a few of those crosses would of looked better.
KT!

Kompany and Richards had outstanding games for City. The result flattered them and we were the better side. They won purely because they were more ruthless when they needed to be. If Downing had been as equally ruthless when he had his chance early on we would probably have got at least a draw. City are certainly nothing to be scared of and the players are probably feeling comfortable about the Carling matches having outplayed City twice already this season RED LENIN

Eds as you know, I have been vociferous in my TOTAL support for Luis over these past few weeks, and have slated everyone on twitter or wherever, who has incorrectly printed blatant rubbish about Luis Suarez. ( I also include Bill Roach in this ...aka ken Barlow who I gave a good stinging too for one of his stupid comments by the way!)

I was personally very disappointed that LFC decided to not contest the decision, HOWEVER whats done is done.

My recommendations to LFC and Suarez now are as follows:

1) STOP the weekly press conference at anfield, or at worst get Commoli to do them. We need to totally defuse everything. Give the press nothing.
2) Do not allow into Anfield any reporters who demonstrated their totally biased views during the 'trial by media'. There are some notably on the Mail and the Daily Mirror who have blown it as far as I am concerned. Fergie has been doing this for years.
3) Kenny's support for Luis has been nothing short of magnificent and honourable as we would all expect, but for a while he needs to be allowed to have a little mental break and concentrate on the team and leave the scum press to dream up some new stories about someone else ( John Terry next on the list ? )
4) Patrice Evra has done more for racism with this whole saga. the original tackle which is on U Tube shows a very very innocuous challenge by Suarez on Evra. In my view he is a lying cheat. If I was a professional footballer I would have nothing but contempt for a man who has lied throughout this whole affair
5) Suarez now needs some personal time to get some inner peace and Im sure with Kennys help he will come back a stronger and more disciplined player. He has made a few mistakes certainly, but nothing that warranted the trial by media and invasion of his privacy and the disgraceful hounding he received on the word of one person (with no witnesses!).
6) When the dust has finally settled in a few months, I hope that Suarez lawyers quite rightly takes Evra to court for defamation of character. He has a clear and cut case in law. Evra made an incorrect accusation about Suarez on live Tv and has subsequently retracted his statement and said Suarez did not use the word n****. I would also take some of the gutter press to court for defamation of character and then advise Luis to DONATE EVERY PENNY he gets from these trials to a good charity.

Finally does everyone realise that a precedent has now been set by the FA. If any footballer, supporter or anyone else for that matter makes a claim against ANYONE in football regarding racism, the FA are now duty bound to investigate and take the necessary actions.

How I pray that one day Ferguson uses a word that is taken as a racial insult by someone....he is such a slimebag Im sure one day he will get his just desserts......is there a lord up there ?

I will now say my three hail marys and wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR, especially the EDs who have been brilliant.

And you guys say DDG is pants? Reina was shocking last night - but you wont see the media jump on his back as he is older. Error after error, whats his excuse? DDG is still learning and at 20 year old is only gonna get better.

Soon he'l kick Reina outta 3rd choice Spain Keeper.

I agree about Pepe, he is average keeper , he's a good shot stopper and quick at getting the ball out of box but awful at crosses and has made 3 big errors of top of my head this season , Norwich at home in no mans land , Fulham and city last night
, Young Flanagan made one error against Sunderland and was dropped
Maybe not right now but next season we need a new Keeper I' say the Swansea city keeper young and Hungry .K.O.B

'anonymous'

De Gea has played 14 Premier League games and has conceded 17 goals and kept 5 clean sheets. In total this season he has played 18 games and conceded 23 goals.

Reina has played 19 Premier League games and conceded 18 goals and kept 7 clean sheets.

Reina is regarded is one of the best keepers in Europe, De Gea is not even the best keeper at United. Reina cost £6m, De Gea cost £18m and still error after error.

JRG

DDG is 20 years old keeper playing behind an ever changing defence due to injury. His errors can be put down to inexperience. What is Reina's excuse?

TK-Red

Yes he must be average of course thats why Fergie was after him.

'TK-Red'

It seems you are the one making excuses not me.

Reina has made a few uncharacteristic mistakes so far this season but we all know he is a class goal keeper. He is rated as one of the best goal keepers in Europe.

De Gea has only be here 6 months and his career has been littered with mistakes. At least we know Reina is a decent keeper, you cannot say that for sure about De Gea.

If your defence is the reason he has made so many mistakes how come Lindergard has kept 5 clean sheets in the 5 PL games he has played? As I said, de Gea is not even the best keeper at United.

JRG

The difference is Reina has had 3 bad games all season and De Gea has had 3 good games all season
wildwelshman

Reina is world class endve

De Gea single handedly knocked you out of the CL, TK mate. His clearance against Benfica at OT, went straight to a Benfica player then went to Aimar, to tap in their 2nd goal. Then against Basle he tried to save a cross with his feet (for some reason?) which also proceeded in Basle, putting you out of the CL altogether.

You say that De Gea only cost you 20 mill mate, that's a lie. He cost you around 35-40 mill altogether, including the CL money you would have received, IF he were not in nets, during these games.

Don't forget the loss to Blackburn, which was also his fault. He was at fault for the 3rd and winning goal, when he came and flopped at another cross. I think the kid will come good but he's taking his time, and costing you bigstyle mate.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

The only reason Reina doesnt start is because Casillas is GODLIKE in one-on-one situation.....The way Spain play with posession, they must have a goal keeper who is very good in those situations.......

You feel bad for DDG bcoz you a ManU supporter.....And he wont dislodge any goalkeeper from the national team for the next 5 yrs

And the truth be told, Reina is the best keeper in Spain....But Casilas is a beloved of the Madrid press and a very saint like figure....Hence replacing him becomes almost next to impossible for any coach...

LiverBird

I must admit I have always thought Reina was overrated. Nice bloke but prone to errors and not commanding enough. Can anyone remember when last he saved a penalty? Perhaps we should look at a quality up and coming keeper I.e Hennessy, Vorm, Schmeichel (who I have always rated).

04 Jan 2012 14:29:39
I think everyone needs to calm down about last night. We were playing the team that will win the league and once we conceded first we were always going to be up against it. Once the second went in it was all over as City put ten men behind the ball and shut up shop. We have struggled to beat the lowly teams who put ten men behind the ball, let alone a team of their quality.

Fact is if Kuyt and Reina combined had not made that error and had we gone in at half time 0-0 we would have probably won. They would have still had to attack and with Gerrard and Bellamy on operating in space we would have been much more of a threat.

We need to move on and win the next game against Oldham and just get on with things. Top 4 is still attainable as both Arsenal and Chelsea have their issues. It is up for grabbs for one of us.

04 Jan 2012 14:26:40
with it looking likely that Kuyt is gonna be packing his bags, why go and buy a right winger when we have Raheem Sterling. I honestly think he would scare the crap out of most of the full backs in the league (and when he skins Evra all game, he cant say Sterling racially abused him). Slowly introduce him or is this goning to be another case of Liverpool buying somebody with amazing potential just to be left in the reserves and finally sold???

Very good point........... irish kopite

He's not physically strong enough just yet!
Only just turned 17 & weighs about 8 and a half stone, come on!

Sterling is not ready for the first team yet it will be at least another season or 2 before he starts to break through at the moment hes no where near physicaly up to the prem but is certainly one for the future

What about owen and fowler they were 16 if ur good enough ur old enough {Ed002's Note - However many cliches you use, he really is not ready yet. He needs to build strength and he is a kid still growing.}

What happened to Toni Silva Ed? He looked classy everytime I saw him. Stronger physique than Sterling too.

Chuck Norris {Ed002's Note - Nothing that I am aware of. As far as I know he is still at the club.}

Just quickly flicked on to sky sports news and they have as you all can see in the right hand side in yellow bold letters have written '' Suarez Refuses to Apologise to evra''. What do these people expect it is getting very silly, Suarez was handed a punishment pool have accepeted it, and now an apology is expected? Well if Evra will come out and apologise for the abuse he hurled at Suarez fair game , but knowing united and their biased players they all become to be, evra would not do it so why should Suarez.

So half way through the season, undefeated at home, playing very well away from home, semi finals of a cup, been missing gerrard all season, still very much in the race for fourth and "true fans" are moaning, ahhhh to think how well we were doing this time 12 months ago..... I watched a liverpool side go to the best team in the league last night without gerrard Suarez Lucas in the side and played some good football, more composure from downing and concentration from pepe, this could have been a differnt result, Carrol gets a lot of stick for things not his fault, we are not crossing well enough, but that doesn't mean our whole team is useless, 12 months ago when we lost at Blackburn that was low for us, now look where we are, we finally have a manger who wants best for the team, a owner who will spend, a winger and a striker in jan and we are set for the season with a great squad and starting 11 no matter who plays, what I'm trying to say is in 12 months we have been on the up, and in 12 months time I'm sure it will be better again. Get behind the team after a win/draw/loss.

Have we actually made a move for de jong, or is this just a rumour? If not, any ideas as to when it will happen?

04 Jan 2012 14:12:20
Hey Ed001 what would be your ideal & realistic buys for the january window. I for one would be happy with Luuk De jong and a pacy right winger(hoilet,sinclair,ramirez,james forest ,or even any championship winger with pace and a decent delivery) alongwith the sale of kuyt as it would be good for both parties as his place for euro 2012 would not be damaged. {Ed001's Note - I would not be happy with Hoilett or Sinclair as right wingers, they are all left footers and we would have the same problem we currently have! I would like to see Bellamy played on the right myself, keep Downing on the left and get in De Jong, Soldado (my preference) or Podolski and Ramirez. Perfection would be the addition of someone like M'Vila in central midfield.}

04 Jan 2012 14:10:19
Eds,
After the performance last night, there is an apparant requirement for competition in certain position. Firstly, left wing. From my understanding of the game, the role of the winger is to provide crosses, beat full backs, and crop up with the odd goal (depending on the caliber of the player). After watching Downing all season, he rarely carries out any of these duties. A left winger such as Adam Johnson, Vargas or Dzsudzsak should be brought in to keep Downing on his toes.
Secondly, Charlie Adam looked like a great prospect for the 8 odd mill we paid for him, however, he looks slugish, cannot tackle, and his set pieces have gone to sh!te since joined (missed peno last week, poor corners and free in recent games). Another playmaker may need to be brought in to provide competion for the Scot. Im not saying these players need to be replaced, just that other talented players should be brought in to ensure everyone is fighting for a place in the first XI week in week out. Great job by the way.
YNWA
D16Red

Couldn't agree with you more. I think Adam knows his place has been secure while Gerrard was injured and I'll think he'll struggle to get back in the squad once SG is fully fit. Downing lacks confidence like Carroll but I would play him against Oldham to see if he can have a good game. We need need to revert to a 4-2-3-1 formation as below until Suarez returns

Reina
Johnson Agger Srktel Enrique
Henderson Spearing
Maxi Gerrard Bellamy
Carroll

04 Jan 2012 14:05:46
Think everyone is over-reacting today, I know a 3-0 defeat to the league leaders is difficult to take but to start ranting and wanting to get rid of players etc.. is crazy talk.

Yesterday was not a normal match day with the whole Suarez affair and will Gerrard be fit.. not ideal prep for a big game, and in the end we played well just missed a bit of cutting edge and made some uncharacteristic silly mistakes.

After the Newcastle game there was a lot of talk about top 4 etc.. Lets get behind the team and support them there is still alot of football to be played and I believe we will be in the mix.

Support needed from our supporter - YNWA!

Maybe a couple of additions in January will push us on that little bit more, and thats has be something to be excited about.

NS

I agree last night will be the hardest game we will have all season city have a great team
but we are not far off ourselves,
if we dont get into the top 4 and win the carling cup it will still be a good season for us,it has never been harder to get into the top 4,last's nights game well kompany
what a defender city started off really well but if downing had have put his chance away early on we might be a bit more upbeat today.

Eds, during Suarez's ban, is he able to play for the reserves at all in order to maintain a bit of match fitness? {Ed002's Note - He is but don't expect too much. Maybe one game before a first team return.}

04 Jan 2012 13:50:12
I am happy that there will be no appeal made by L.F.C. on behalf of Louis Suarez. IMO it would have got pretty messi and probably came out with egg on our faces. However i am gutted he won't be playing for a little while. Obviously ,he'll be missed by the rest of team on the field as we will be lacking someone with lots of skill and guile, which was sadly lacking last night. Anyway I don't think its to desperate, as there is a good chance Louis will miss just 4 premier league games including last nights match.
we play Oldham on saturday in the FA cup and providing we don't totally balls things up, we should stroll into the 4th round which will another game louis can include in his ban. We play two legs of the carling cup semi.So as you see,only three games left for Louis to sit out. and with a bit of luck ,we will progress into the 5th round of the FA cup meaning Louis would only miss 3 premier league games. Now I know it would be really good if we made the carling cup final. AS it would be our first visit to the new wembley and we have a good chance of beating city over two legs ( a better chance if louis had been available) but qualifying for the CL is more important to us and i believe we will need Louis to play in as many premier league games if we are to achieve a top 4 place.
I haven't got a clue who we will be in Jan. I just hope its not Darren bent, apparently Mark Lawerson said last night while comentating for 5 live , that there are imassive rumours that we have already agreed to a deal with Villa. I'm not convinced and it does appear that De jong looks the most likely to join us.
We need to start bringing in a couple of the young lads through. They might just do a great and surprise everone. Its no use investing in the youth teams if no one is given a chance. Its no use bringing in replacements for Carol,Henderson, adam and downing and they sit on the bench or rot in the reserves still earning big money. Because if there so s**t, which as been suggested by some people on this site, thats excatly what would happen if we bought replacements. After all how do you sell s**t players, especially in this current financial crisis. Which is to get worse according to the experts.
IMO we just need a striker for now. We have some really good talent in our young lads and i say give them a chance and i am sure Kenny and his team can help the likes of Henderson and downing to be more confident and daring. There just not expressive enough when they have the ball and don't seem to be 90 minute players. Again imo they don't get involved enough. But i'm sure Kenny can help them along. Anyway we must give them untill the end of the season before we can make true assesments of their achivements and that includes Carol and Adam.

I think we will get a top 4 spot but only just. It will take some time for this squad to establish its self. So we must be a little paient and a bit more suportive with our new boys Apart from man City, we are as good as any of the top 4 or 5 sides in the premier league and prbably even better than one or two of the the top 5. Forget last night we are heading in the right direction.
All the best and I'll be back in the summer. Paul B.

Is it me or does luuk De Jong
look like the finisher we so desperately need ? reminds me of owen in his prime ? o why have we not yet moved on this and sealed the deal eds ?

He may look a good player in Holland but the Premier leagues is much much better than their league. As its only another 7 games I don't think we'll buy anyone. I think he rotate bellamy, maxi and kuyt as the 2nd striker round Carroll. Now Gerrards back we'll cope

God mate we need a striker!!!

So, many people are saying the deal for Darren Bent is as good as done. But do the masses think it is a good buy or just another mediocre purchase.

Agree = Good buy
Disagree = Pants

Your thoughts please

The Crowman

Mediocre buy, if it happens at all. Dont know why all liverpool legends r so keen to have so many english players at the club, inspite of being crap. Soldado is the best option rite now.
Indian Buzzer

If he becomes our player then we have to back him. He does have a good goal scoring record overall but i personally would not want to spend too much money on him.

Just thought I would say, last night result was a bit generous to city. We were playing well just they are so much more clinical than us. Everytine they were in our third they looked a threat. And why can't anyone except Stevie g and bellers cross a ball what's that all about?
Gaz b

They were not more clinical last night. Reina was pants yesterday letting two soft goals in.
Apart from the poor performance of Reina in goal, we dominated the game but unfortunately with our well known lack of finishing ability.

Ed's as you know we all(well most readers) consider your opinions to be non-biased and relevant to the current situation at each club. So my question is - If you had to pick a ideal striker within liverpool's current budget to sign in january..Who would it be? If you had to pick a right winger to sign who would it be and if you had to pick a defensive midfielder to fill the gap left by Lucas Leiva who would it be... Also im my opinion liverpool are missing one key aspect to there attack... A player of the quality of David Silva or Luka Modric... If you had to pick an ideal playmaker to come who would it be.! Alot of questions I know but I personally want to see what your choices would be and why...

BLANCO7 {Ed002's Note - I am sure the other posters will be happy to oblige but for the longer term I see Luuk De Jong as a good buy for the club. PLayers like Fernando or Sissoko could improve the midfield but I don't see a DM is required. If we could be sure that Liverpool could get the best out of Adam Johnson, again a good addition.}

would just like to say that stuart downing a terrible footballer

Downing is a good footballer. He is skilled and fast. He is also remarkably resiliant and rarely takes a knock. The problem is his runs don't hurt the opposition.

Terrible player. Even carrol seems a better buy compared to downing. Big fish in a small pond called aston villa. Not liverpool standard.
Indian Buzzer

He's like Walcott and Lennon he lacks a end product to he runs. He needs some lessons from Gerrard on crossing, I expect him to keep improving but slowly.

NS

Downing has been consistently poor so far this season. He is the worst culprit for under-performing so far this year I he sorte his life out and got some crosses into the box maybe Big Andy might just stick a few in.

In my eyes he has no excuse for his poor form. Halfway through the season and no goals and no assists just isn't good enough.

I wish people would stop mentioning Darren Bent's name on here. It's making me feel depressed.

For me it would all depend on the fee. If it is someting ridiculous like £24m+, then yes its silly money, but £15m to £18m it could be good business.

Darren Bent will certainly get us goals, not the best option but certainly a tried Premier player with an eye for goal, a 16 yard player, doesnt drift too much back like Carroll, you always fancy he is going to grab a goal

Bent is not not not going to liverpool found out through source in anfield its bull s...

How old is bent isnt he bout 28 ,i hope we arent looking to pay out about 25 million on an average striker ,saldado is ten times better

04 Jan 2012 13:31:47
hi ed with every1 giving out about carroll has any1 looked at reina johnson kuyt adam and downing they were crap last night and have been for most of the season

04 Jan 2012 13:31:21
As far as I see it, we actually have 9 players who should play when fit, with 2 (maybe 3) positions that need filling.

-------Reina-------
Kelly----Agger----Skrtel----Enrique
-------------Lucas----------------
-----Gerrard------ ? --------
Suarez-------------------Bellamy-
------------ ? --------------

Sell Downing, Carroll.
Possibly sell Adam.
Henderson on the bench
Maybe buy another LW as Bellamy cannot play every game.

What do you all think?

Ash

I still think the way to go is 4-1-4-1 or a slight 4-3-3

When fully fit and able:

Reina
Kelly - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique
-------------Lucas---------------
Gerrard - Maxi/Hendo - Suarez - Bellamy
--------------Carroll-----------------

I don't know why you think we should sell Downing and Carroll. Depth wins titles, we'll see them both come in a while. Just back the team.

Henderson is fabulous, his pass on the 7th minute yesterday was perfect, too bad Downing couldn't finish.

My wish list for January:

1 - A striker who can finish our chances
2 - Another striker who can play whilst Suarez is out for 8 games
3 - Another Winger, preferable Right
4 - A defensive midfield cover for incase something happens to Spearing

RenegadeRed

I wud sell downing. he is useless. carrol shud be given another season. Adam wud make a good squad player. Buy soldado/de jong, a cm possibly sissoko, and a winger preferably albrighton.
Indian Buzzer

Sell Carroll, Downing and Henderson?
Yeah, who needs a squad eh?

Ash, you only seem to crop up after a defeat, try and support the team for once,it's not going to be instant success like City, but, people like you don't help.

KT!

Adam was doing a fine job up until Lucas was injured.

He was clearly unfit when he joined but it is obvious he has spent a lot of time reaching the level of fitness required to play for a club like LFC. Recent stats have shown he is in the top 6 midfielders for distance covered per game.

The hard work looks to have caught with him up a bit now though and he is looking very tired and needs a rest. Don't know if all the fitness work has meant less time working on his dead ball skills also?

JRG

KT, do you actually watch games? Downing is useless and at his peak! He won't get any better, this is it! Carroll simply doesn't fit in with our philosphy and needs (for his own career) to be playing regularly in a team that suits his style.

Also, have a re-read mate. Where exactly did I say sell Henderson?

Ash

Ash, Was meant to be Adam not Henderson. Again who needs a sqaud eh?

I watch every game Ash, been to 5 games this season too.

Would you like to point out what Carroll did wrong last night? He worked hard and for most of the game he was isolated from his team mates.
Konpany is also one of the best CB's in the world and he was on his game last night.

Downing was an outlet when we wanted to break, the problem is the only pas he could find was a player behind him as Adam isn't fast enough to break quick.

SUPPORTer of LFC KT!
The clues in the name Ash.

ADAM is a liability, he had lucas covering his ass for the first half of the season so he got away with it. falls over conceeds cheap possesion in dangerous areas, average passer, nothig special really , half his game was about set piece delivery and goal threat and that has been woeful. selling meireles to buy him was a mistake, downing i dont mind carroll i still think has a job to do, henderson is young and needs to start taking more resposibilty going forward especially, we lack pace out wide(how long have we been saying this) and genuine guile in the final third and neither of these come cheap. if you look at citys second line aguero silva nasri all quality creative players , we have suarez and an ageing gerrard, we need more players with intelligent movement i the fial third. i love dalglish but i think he has made some strange buys. downing good winger at a small club, andy carroll top man at a small club, there were better players on offer whe these guys were bought, however i m still hopefully that these players will knit into the team, it seems that they tend to rely on suarez to do everything at the creative end and have not yet gelled into a team

04 Jan 2012 13:30:58
Ed's Do you think Liverpool will now shut their doors to the media (especially the tabloids) with regards to their transfer activity. I know we always do things quietly but after they way the club has been portrayed and suarez too, will Kenny get his back up and ensure any ins and outs will be done with the spambag reporters the last to find out. (although I suppose they will all be too busy to see what Fergie the rednose alcoholic is up to and telling him what a great job he is still doing)

I am with you though in the Soldado stance, think he is the best out there at the minute in our range.

PHIL. BELFAST {Ed002's Note - Very little actually comes out of Liverpool, certainly at the operational level of the team. Many potential transfers make it in to the public domain due to agents talking players up and the openness of foreign club staff to discuss matters. I cannot see any change at Liverpool in this respect.}

Very little information leaks out of Liverpool nowadays. Even the players know little about future plans.

04 Jan 2012 13:25:11
hey reds dont know bout you but i think we should offer newcastle a swap caroll for demba ba maybe plus money if thats whats needed he is top quality think he could link with suarez well ;)

It is useless thinking about demba ba because not in a million years would he pass a medical , so look on to someone else who can pass a medical, Soldado and de jong.

Felt sorry for Andy last night. He must've been scratching his head at where the service is coming from.

One particular example was when Downing was on the right wing with about ten minutes and put two balls in one after the other, both of them not getting past the first man.

The only time i really saw the crossing improve was when Bellamy was brought on.

Stu.

Bellamy is a legend

04 Jan 2012 13:22:29
Just read on MSN that we got thrashed and were never in the game and such nonsense. We did what we've been doing all season, battering teams and not scoring... You look at the possession and attempts stats and it would show how flattery 3-0 was, but it shows whilst we have a solid midfield and defence we lack that attacking capability. Also well done Kompany and Hart, Kompany must surely be the best CB in the EPL right now and his performance has assisted his team as has Hart.

I know alot of people will criticise the usual suspects like Downing and Carroll but I thought once Downing gained some confidence he came right into the match and as for Carroll what on earth is he going to do with the ball at his head height on the penalty spot, back to goal, challenging Toure and Kompany? Surely if we are going to cross we should put it somewhere he can get his rather large head on it to knock in or at least have someone he can knock it down to. Personally I felt Jordan Henderson had a decent game but Kuyt let me down, looked sloppy all game and not up to our standard. Like Carragher he has been a great servant but now it's the time where either moves on or removed from the starting 11.

Yeah we lost 3-0, but if we were going to lose 3 points to anyone, City would be my preference.

LFC Eaton

Agree with most of you there, except downing, he always runs at people but doesn't cross he is always cutting back, but it's been the same all season for ANDY no one can cross, one point glen Johnson crossed twice and didnt find anyone, it was put back in by downing, then back in by Enrique, 5 crosses all went no where, good service and Suarez with him I think Carrol will become a good player for this club, keep faith

04 Jan 2012 13:21:42
Key areas to be looked at:

Gerrard long term replacer and final third midfielder:
Not many like Stevie on the planet but Marek Hamsik (Napoli) is only one who comes close.

Winger Replacement for Downing:
I'm sorry but we can't just scapegoat Carroll for everything. This boy was bought to put quality crosses on his head, and once again last night was woeful. Why in god's name did we choose him over Mata?

Scuzz

Scuzz, a player of Gerrard's calibre only comes along once in a VERY long time.

Tell me one thing Stevie can't do, he can dribble closely, run quickly, cross with great accuracy, shoot with amazing precision, pass with his amazing vision, he has determination, motivation, captaining skills as well as a hunger to drive his team forward.

Don't know about you, but the closest player I see developing into that is Jack Wilshere. I'm sure we'll find a player who'll drive the team forward and who can play Gerrard's position, but not of his exact calibre and characteristics.

Renegadered

If a striker cannot function (at all) without a winger crossing the ball to him, then he is not worth 35M price tag.

There is a lot that is wrong with Carroll apart from lack of crosses landing on his head.

Great point boodabooze been saying same meself

Hi ed's just wondering whether you make decent money from this site through advertising? also whether you get a payment if a product is bought through the adverts shown on your sites (Affiliate advertising) i know this is not a football rumour or Banter, but would be very grateful for any information you could provide me with?

Thanks {Ed002's Note - My understanding is that the totality of the site covers the running costs and that is it.}

04 Jan 2012 13:16:19
Typical doom merchants on the site as usual - Here is some perspective for the true fans we started the game without Suarez, Gerrard, Bellamy and Lucas - 4 of our first team and no doubt class acts. We had to rely on players in midfield and upfront who are lacking confidence and too be honest of average quality. If those 4 were available different game. We don't have the luxury to have back up players costing over 20m like city, chelski or united as we are not in Europe so this would cause unrest. Also not many if any teams will go to citeh and pick up any points. Liverpool made a call for Suarez to sit this out as he will now be back against Tottenham at home. This will be a far more important game as out goals are 4th place or above and good cup runs. Suarez will now only miss 3 further premier league games and if we can secure perhaps Luuk De Jong in this window then we'll have more than a chance to grab 4th. Arsenal, Chelsea & Spurs all have to come to anfield where we are undefeated so it's all too play for.

hi eds, liverpool will make a move for four this january, 1st in will be darren bent than luuk de jong, than we will look for cover in nigel de jong, loan deal and will all so make a move for james mccarthy.

04 Jan 2012 13:12:52
So now that the Suarez thing has been put to bed and after a disappointing result last night, I think now is the time the club could make an announcement on the stadium, even if it's just an update on the position. Would give us all a lift. What say you Ed?

Far from being put to bed. We are getting slaughtered in the press and on the media.

04 Jan 2012 12:59:12
There are so many negative thought on here I do wonder what team most of you support. We have no right to win every game we play and we were playing a team that will probably go and win the league. I thought Kenny's tactics were good but when a rare mistake from Pepe early on happens it changes things. I was dissapointed that with Carrol on the pitch we were poor with our crosses and very poor with the runners in the box which would of made things harder for there defence. As it was with only Carrol in the box most of the time it was easy for them.
I for one am happy with the progress the club has made this year on and off the pitch. We have spent alot of money but that was needed just to get us where we are now which is in a position to challange for a champions league place. On our day we can beat anyone in this league but are to inconsistant in front of goal. Hopefully this transfer window and the next transfer window will be step 2 as all the transfers since last January were step 1.
Off the pitch the new stadium will take shape and the names of big new sponsers will become clear.
I hope everyone who calls themselves a fan of our great club has the sense to see the bigger picture and the has the patience to stick through a few bad results.

Keep Believing

ed is there any chance of adam johnson he got 15 minutes last night and done more in that time than downing done the whole game! kenny got the wrong winger in the summer! {Ed001's Note - no, Johnson was not available, can you not read back through so I am not wasting my time answering the same question over and over? This issue has been dealt with repeatedly.}

Johnson 100000 times better than downing i agree

04 Jan 2012 12:54:53
Ed is there any truth to darren bent or jermain defoe? both players find the net for fun both english which would people prefer? im going with defoe! {Ed001's Note - Defoe does not score goals for fun, he is injury prone and average, hence why he spends so much time on the bench. Neither will be joining.}

04 Jan 2012 12:52:05
Do you reckon ed Villa would swap Bent for Carroll? {Ed001's Note - is this meant to be a joke?}

04 Jan 2012 12:46:28
Hi Eds,

Just wondering, can Luuk De Jong play from the right side?

If so, is it possible that he is being looked at for that position, meaning we could possibly also sign another striker, ideally Soldado or Bent?

Thanks
AK {Ed001's Note - yes and yes it could be possible.}

04 Jan 2012 12:35:54
I think we need 2 players kagawa nd either soldado (my preference) or luuk de jong eds do you think it could be possible to get them or too expensive? {Ed002's Note - I don't want to get in to the combined prices of players, but Liverpool have been one of the clubs, along with Udinese, Spurs, Villarreal and Valencia, who have shown an interest in Kagawa this season. Kagawa himself has had a generally pretty poor season and although it has picked up recently he is not making the Dortmund teamsheet as an automatic choice anymore. I doubt that he will be moving in January. There is no shortage of opinion on the other two players.}

04 Jan 2012 12:31:06
Hi eds last night we where shocking and their is nothing kenny can do his signing have been
dyer maybe for the excpetions of Enrique and Suarez and this whole no buying anybody under
26 rule will be the end of it for him for 35mil we could of got bent and defoe both proven at
prem level and can score goals i think our current squad lacks leaders and strength and until
we address the issue of the poor squad we have where gonna be lucky to finish anywhere above
6th im not a biter blue or even a scum bag red but we have big issues that need addressing we
have midfielders who cant win headers nor pick out a pass or can't tackle we rely on a guy who
has been out most of the season and will be collecting his bus pass soon and to think that where
missing lucas as much as we are the same player every liverpool fan wanted out 2/3 seasons ago
is a joke we have bags full of talent in the unders 18's and reserves so instead of buying kids
why cant we start buying some older players 26-30 to bring in experience and bring then bleed
some of the younger players who have been brought through our own system and let the older
show them the way

rant over lol thanx for reading

ramythered

Did you see the pass competion rate yesterday we are building a squad the right way it might not be instant success but we are not citeh or chelski throwing stupid money at things give it time we had quite an overhaul just be patient and great things will happen

Dont forget bellamy was a good buy aswell

04 jan 2012 12:30:44

before this is not part of moaning & whinging after a defeat, this is like bit of analyzing the game..

it seems like there are only stevie g, bellers & enrique who can deliver a decent cross into the box which will be useful to andy. the rest is not good at the businesses. even corners looks awful. whats wrong with this adam henderson & downing, this downing guy dribbles well has good pace but he has no end product he have not done what he was bought for. on adam his form has been v poor. not the player he was at blackpool/at the start of the season.

for carroll we r changing our game plan but it is destroying our players & our game play.

it's either we suffer or let go of carroll & bring some one who can make every player happy (some one who can suit pass & move) so that we don't need to change our style in-order to suit him.

pass & move suits everybody except for carroll so he is the cog in our wheel. get rid of him. even if he gets the service there is not much guarantee he 'll score (see the newcastle utd game). no need of wasting more money on finding players who can suit carroll's style (see what downing has done so far), find players who can suit liverpool's style.

bye, bye top 4 with carroll spearheading our attack, playing boring long-ball old fashioned style football which not suits the liverpool players.

Ive said the same thing carroll only looked good at Newcastle because they humfed the ball up to him and davies would run off him we dont have them kinda players and have never been a long ball team and to think our front line is kuyt carroll and downing is the reason i had a bath instead of watching the match

ramythered

You idiot, if you have a bath rather than support your team no matter who plays your a fool, stop moaning about a defeat to man city, where Carrol played well an win every decent ball delivered, we are missing support from midfield which we only get when gerrard plays, I bet he and Carrol link up well with Suarez out

Darren Bent!

Everyone is saying that they hope he dont sign, not good enough for Liverpool.

He is a proven goalscorer at the level that we will be playing at for the forseeable future...why not have a punt on him, in a full season he will get us probably 15-20 goals, suarez wont, carroll wont, gerro wont (now), bellers knees dont hold up. Lets get a fresh face in for Jan and give the fans some goals!

The Neilos Express

Wouldn't you be upset if we get Bent for 24 million and Soldado would cost roughly as much?
What would rafa do with 100 million?

We would have had Silva and Villa for a start!

Ash {Ed001's Note - how do you figure that out? They weren't available to us in the summer, so how the hell would Rafa have got them?}

I think what we do know is we would have world class players? Aguero? Mata?

He could of bought world class players like:

Aquilani (18m), Dossena (7m), Keane (20m), Riera (8m), Babel (11.5m), Pennant (7m), Morientes (6.5m), Johnson (18m), Cavalieri (3m), Josemi (2m), Leto (2.5m), Paletta (2m), Ngog (1.5m), Gonzalez (1.5m) etc etc.

Rafa would buy 10 dirk kuyts

really wexed bwt every1 havin ago at carrol yes he hasnt bin playin well but im a liverpool fan who thinks the wingers are to blame for this, i mean downing is awful he is scared to run at people and his delivery is soo poor cnt believ we payed 20mil jus coz hes english dalglish needs a creative player and needs to give sum young players such as morgan sterling and adjoran a chance

eds when do u think we are negotioting with any club for players currentli??

I don't know what anyone thinks to this but I'll hopefully get a response one way or another:

With Suarez's 8 game ban, what do you think he/the club should do?

Obviously he's still going to be training to retain fitness, but nothing will compare to playing competitive football.

Do you think it would be a good idea to have him play for the reserves? Granted, it's not the most competitive football he's going to play but it has to be better than just training, right?

I hate it when people have in the past, said things like 'dump him in the reserves'. In my eyes it shouldn't be seen as a punishment, the club is bigger than just the first team squad. I may be wrong, as I'm only 21, but I'm sure in the past the club would use the reserve games more to aid fitness and form for players who are struggling. Am I right ed?

Anyway, I think it'd do some good for Luis to still play actual matches given he is suspended for a while.

What do you all think?

Thanks
Chris

Give him 2 weeks off with his family, then get him back in for 18th January to work on fitness and then give him 2 games for the reserves (90 mins on 24th Jan - Blackburn and 30 mins on 7th Feb - Norwich) before being let loose on Utd 11th February.

Do you think it is at all likely that we go for both De Jong and Soldado or do you think it would be one or the other not both?

Thanks

-Shar- {Ed002's Note - It is possible but I would not say likely that Liverpool could move for both players.}

Carroll downing spearing henderson not good enough neither is king kenny, sorry but bring back rafa, also Luuk de Jong, any news, Nigel de Jong would be great signing to replace Lucas, also Bellamy should get a run in team.

Wow. 41 Unbelievables on my last post. That'll learn me not to post twitter rumours. I did not believe it myself but I thought I would pass it on just to put it out there. What's the most unbelievables you've had Ed? Surely that was up there.

Anfield Rapstar {Ed002's Note - I have never looked at them at all, and I am pretty sure we don't have any stats.}

I dOnt know if anyone will agree but I thought andy Carroll work rate was great,he's a real warrior,and never gives up thank god he is starting to justify his bargain price tag! Lfc for never!! :)

Ed in my opinion we need to replace Charlie Adam he aim good enough he gives the ball away too often and he hasn't been beating the first man with his crosses! Is there any chance of a creative player in the middle coming in?

Steven Gerrard?

But surely gerrard and adam will be playing together? should be gerrard with another creative player! a player like modric maybe ozil is there any chance? {Ed002's Note - Modric or Oezil - no.}

Liverpool not good enough, been a lifelong supporter, strikers including Suarez not clinical enough, need a poacher inzaghi type player who lives for goals. Carroll Henderson downing spearing downing not good enough. Love dalglish but not a great manager. Get rafa back ASAP and give him money to replace the duds. Ynwa.

"Get rafa back ASAP and give him money to replace the duds"

We have spent the last year trying to replace, sell-off and pay-off all the duds that Rafa left us with.

Hi Eds and Reds,

Just after your personal opinion Eds, Looking at some of the names people are linking with us and some of the big names being linked with Chelsea and Arsenal, and with people putting so much emphasis on Champions League football being deciding factors, don't you think we might find no big names moving to us, Chelsea or Arsenal this January as to be truthful, not one of these teams are GUARANTEED Champions League football next season. It is looking to be 1 of these 3 if Tottenham keep their form up. I just think 4 years ago Liverpool could be linked with them as we were a consistant in CL, same as Chelsea and Arsenal up until last year but if anyone can look at the table now, with the amount of fixtures left and say that they can pick out of these 3 teams who will take the final spot is pure blind faith. I do think Liverpool can do it, but I support Liverpool so of course I feel like this, as all Arsenal supporters will believe they can do it and same with Chelsea fans. I'm just saying if any major name is going to come to England in January, and CL qualification is a must for them, I can't see them choosing us, Arsenal or Chelsea. Just my opinion, what to you think Eds?

YNWA
WelshScouse {Ed002's Note - If a major name arrives there is every probability it will be someone purchased by the wealth of Chelsea. January is never a good time to buy in any case.}

I don't get up to Anfield much these days so have only seen the reds once this year but keep twitching everytime a see a bad result so thought I would give my half term report. Watching on TV I would say though that the season so far has been dissapointing. We seem to be a 6th place team and no better because we lack consistancy. I'm not sure if this is fair but the signings of Downing, Carroll, Enriqie, Suarez & Adam have not improved us in comparison to the current top 5. I aso think the top 5 are not as good as they once were apart from MC and Spurs but some how they grind out wins where we get draws.
My point is that without 2-3 world class players we will fail in breaking that top 4 from the evidence I have seen. Now I know that we have missed SG and now LS but I have no confidence that we are improving consistantly.

What do you think?

We will end up in same position as last year sixth and thats were we are right now,so we havint improved,the league table dont lie pal so i agree.....irish kopite

We were not sixth last year at this time, so there is an improvement

Read my post i said at end of season

Really think Spearing stepped up to the plate yesterday. He is in a different league to Charlie Adam.. he's just more mobile, has a passing range as good as him, and tackles far better. So much more energy. Adam is perhaps better from dead ball situations, but with Gerrard in the side now, do we need him for that?

YNWA! (Adam)

Spearing's been great since his ban, good to see it hasn't stopped him being himself too.

Playing with a more defense minded CM drastically improves the shape of our team.

Thought Adam should get closer to Carroll during the game as the big man was iscolated throughout.

Good performance, bad result, let's move on to Oldham now.

KT!

Im from ireland and was over at anfield when we beat wolves 2 to 1 and couldint get over how slow and unmobile adam looked i was shocked,i just taught it was me,very surprised and seen it more when ur at the game,he looked unfit like a pub team player strolling around slowly,not a fit man and very average to say the least.....pool fans do you agree

Been saying this for ages he will never be upto liverpool standard even if he tried his hardest for three seasons. you carnt polish a turd.

Hi Eds

From watching our game last night it is clear that we lack the power and pace that other teams in the PL have. I think our back 5 is as good as any other team in the league however I would like to see the following 4 players added to the squad.

Gaston Ramirez - Pacey strong Uruguayan winger who could also do a job up front. He will also have a bit of an edge to his game. Plenty of skill and ability to beat his man.

Sissoko from Toulouse - strong powerfully built attacking midfielder somewhat similar to yaya toure (not as good). His power and pace would be a real asset to this club.

Fernando Reges - Porto holding midfielder. Vey quick and powerful and loves a tackle. Would also be a danger from set pices as he has a decent header.

Soldado - quality finisher of a ball who also has a bit of pace. strongly built to and I am sure he would have no problem adapting to the PL.

eds do you believe that acquiring the above mentioned is realistic in this window. I know 4 is a bit much but in order to make top 4 i think they are necessary. we serioulsy lack power and pace. {Ed002's Note - I don't think it realistic at all, sorry.}

I fully agree that a weakness we have is a lack of pace. With the exception of Downing none of our midfielders or forwards who started the game yesterday had any pace to trouble City's defence. This meant that any knock downs from Caroll were swept up by City's defence without any challenge. We definitely need to inject some pace into the team. Whilst Bellamy and Gerard will help in this regard we still need to try and find one or two quality additions who also have pace and strength. A winger and a striker would do nicely. Reality Red

And what makes the poster think all those players he listed would be instant success in epl? This is real life not FIFA.

Can anyone tell me what Suarez will do whilst he is banned. Will he continue training or take a break for a week or two then resume training ready for his return. He looked knackered in his last match and could do with a complete rest.
Any ideas

He will be out for 2months or so rather than 2 weeks

Taking in cup matches he (suarez) will be back in early-mid february

Liverpool and Tottenham's new stadium plans hinge on raising funds from American investors

A glimpse of the future? Tottenham issued computer images of their proposed new stadium

By Paul Kelso
Last Updated: 12:00AM GMT 04/01/2012
Tottenham and Liverpool are both considering issuing bonds to American investors to help fund their new stadium ambitions.

Both clubs are looking to kick-start stadium developments this year, but the global economic climate and the reluctance of banks to issue huge loans for major capital projects has led them to focus their fund-raising efforts in the US.

Telegraph Sport understands that both clubs are examining a range of debt-financing options with American investors, including 'private placements', a method of raising funds by selling bonds to private investors.

Under a private placement, investors would buy bonds in the club at a fixed rate of interest, which they would receive at set periods throughout the term of the deal. At its conclusion the initial investment would be repaid.

Manchester United refinanced more than £500 million of bank loans in 2009 by issuing corporate bonds in the club on the UK and American markets.

It was considered a success after it attracted significant take up from investors and allowed the Glazers to maintain their debt-financed ownership of the club, albeit at the cost of annual interest repayments of around £40  million.

Tottenham and Liverpool are understood to be less likely to issue corporate bonds that could be publicly traded, preferring to target private investors for the specific purpose of financing new grounds.

Arsenal successfully employed this model to finance the Emirates.

The fund-raising plans at both clubs are running alongside the search for naming-rights sponsors, a market that promises to be crowded in 2012, with Chelsea and the Olympic Park also seeking stadium partners.

Both Spurs and Liverpool would hope to raise at least £150 million over 10 years from a sponsor, with Tottenham targeting closer to £200 million. Spurs are expected to attract interest from Chinese sponsors and have been linked with Qatar Airways.

The clubs could borrow against a naming rights deal to allow them to kick-start construction work, with the balance of the total cost coming from investors.

Tottenham have estimated that their new stadium development at Northumberland Park, adjacent to White Hart Lane, will require around £300 million in funding, which UK banks are highly unlikely to consider in the current climate.

There would be competition among banks to handle a private placement in the US, however, particularly given the involvement of the club's ultimate backer, the billionaire financier Joe Lewis.

Lewis is a key player in Tottenham's expansion plans but so far he has maintained his policy of allowing the club to stand on its own resources, rather than dipping into his own fortune to boost spending on players and facilities.

His wealth could be a significant factor in a successful fund-raising however, particularly if he agreed to underwrite or act as a guarantor in the process.

The search for private investment is understood to have been a factor in Tottenham's decision to delist the club from the London stock exchange, a move agreed by the club's shareholders last month. The move means the club is now privately owned, with the vast majority of shares held by Joe Lewis's ENIC.

Liverpool's planned new stadium in Stanley Park is expected to cost a similar amount to Tottenham's new ground, with the club's American owners, Fenway Sports Group, naturally examining fund-raising options at home as well as in the UK.

Officially the club are still considering the option of redeveloping Anfield, but their interest in financing options suggests that a new ground is the more likely option.

Interesting mate, thanks
The Real KB

So again we have yonks dragging us in to debt. These bonds will put us in exactly the same position as Manutd as it makes no difference what they are paying for whether it is a stadium, players or covering existing debt. We need owners who are going to invest in the stadium and the team without putting the club back in debt. FSG knew this when they were buying us off the other yonks. Screwed again by yonks.

Um no it wouldnt... Little Ungrateful 'fan'. Go support city

I will defend Suarez and Liverpool for as long as it takes, win, lose or draw. Suarez is not a racist (as in the report), I am not a racist and I think the whole thing has been blown up - and is getting bigger - simply because of the media, they are the ones that can't move on from this and kept the whole thing snowballing. As I said before if Liverpool played a charity match in Africa or Asia with Suarez leading the line would nobody show up - I don't think so.

There won't be replacement to suarez in january. Dalglish told himself after the loss to city.

Kenny open your eyes blackburn have scored more goals than us this season,i say no more,i think you need to get it sorted kenny very quickly pace and goals is what we need,its so obivious to everyone,what do u think ed and fans...... frustated

So, do you want to swop positions in the table? No, I didn't think so.

Well Blackburn are what ? The sixth top scorers in the league .

Open your eyes to the truth we are liverpool sixth is not good enough we cant score goals please get real

Calm down , calm down , calm down .

Things take time . We are moving in the right direction . Being Liverpool is not about smashing every team 3 : 0 , it is about a belief system and support for the club .

It is irrelevant what other clubs are doing , try to focus on the positives and accept progress as and when 'The King' presents it .

Not rumour but wanted peoples views. I know there are lot of strikers out there worth 20 million plus. But some strikers are good in a smaller team and can flourish in a great team. Andy Carrol and FT are prime examples that big money doesnt equate to lots of goals. So what are peoples thoughts on Grant Holt of Norwich? Maybe 4 million. I am sure he would fit in well with our fast passing style and is also good in the air. Worth a punt in my opinion.

Also why don't we recall Acquillani. Our BEST player pre season and creates a lot. Cost nothing! {Ed002's Note - Even if he did have any desire to return, Aquilani cannot be recalled from his loan-to-buy contract.}

04 Jan 2012 11:01:07
City have scored the most goals from outside the box. Scored most deflected goals and provided the leist amount of successful crosses into the box. My point is stop goin on about crap crosses we just need to get the ball to andy and the midfielders need to get closer to him so he lay it off to them then they can either pass it ino the box or have a pop from the edge of the box. All our chances come from tight or crowded areas andy. Adam. Gerrard downing. Bellamy agger spearing and hendo all have a good long distance shot on them. Lfc biggest problem is passing too much when we have had the space to have a pop. Just smash em on target and see what happens unless there is a simple pass on of course. Just my opinion.

So the fact he broke his shin doesn't matter? He'll be bombing around the pitch I'm a wheel chair I suppose?

That last reply was suppose to be about some tosh about David villa. Sorry about that.

I suggest ed2 you look it up. {Ed002's Note - You are incredibly ignorant and talking about something which ended more than 50 years ago when values were different from today. You are trying to use history to try and defend Suarez. You racist view and those of others like you will end up driving him from this country, and that is pretty much for sure. PLease just walk away from this site and take you views elsewhere.}

Sorry for misunderstanding/ ignorance {Ed002's Note - I grew up surrounded by those problems and anyone who uses this site to try to stir up racial hatred in order to defend Suarez is going to be banned immediately. People trying to drive the English game back to the 60s and 70s to defend him using something which happened lifetimes ago in segregated communities are the most ignorant of all. Morning Ed(s) - apologies for bringing this up but, here goes.
I fully support the club's decision not to appeal against LS ban and it's right that they want to put it behind them and move on. However, is this the end or, are the club or LS going to take any other action, legal or otherwise, to try and clear his name?

On reflection lasts night result wasn't to bad I mean the score line was harsh but city are going to do that to most teams this season but i am getting fed up with people slating Kenny for not starting Bellamy and Gerrard. Gerrard is just coming back from nearlly a year out all together it would be foolish to throw him straight in and Bellamy has dodgy knees so he's not going to start every game i think the club would love to start him every game but they have to be handled carefully because if they were to get injured we really would be screwed

Mat lfc

Can you not start Bellamy and then take him off?!

I don't think 'mat lfc' has that kind of power

04 Jan 2012 09:17:45
Is it just me or does anyone else thing Downing needs to be dropped? He runs up to the defenders, stops and goes backwards - cracks me up, id rather he tried to take them on and lose it than constantly go backward (bellamy showed him what to do). I say give sterling a run in the cup matches. any thoughts?

Downing like Carroll has no confidence. I think they should both play against Oldham to hopefully score a goal. If they fail on Friday then I would definately play Maxi, Bellamy and Gerrard against city and drop Adam, Downing and Kuyt. Lets get some pace into the team

Watching Downing play against the mancs last season he was awesome on the left hand side ?
Last night he was so frustrating and took the safe option of a usually backwards pass most of the night, I think we all expected much more. I think our squad is good enough for 90% of prem teams but we need a little more 'top quality' in the final 3rd of the pitch- expensive it will be and god willing we buy the right candidates this time.
Love Enrique and can see Henderson developing in the middle though.

04 Jan 2012 09:12:35
A depressing match - really thought it was to be OUR night, turned out to be theirs...
However, I noticed something funny - during the second half, I wasn't nervous at all, neither excited - I was just apathetic, because it was obvious we can't do anything.
THIS IS ONLY THE SECOND TIME SUCH A THING HAPPENS THIS SEASON. All the other matches we had a chance until the very last - all the other matches the team excited me, and brought me passion.
So, cheers to the great leap in play, and the results will come.

Drigan

As much as I support Suarez the club should stop talking about it now. Wheir on here talking about buying players. But this could start effecting clubs sponsoring the club or putting money in. But It's a pr disaster. Once the racist word is mentioned you guilty in this P C WORLD WE LIVE IN!

I thought we have stopped taking about, KD said he couldn't make any more comment about the situation. Its the media who will keep bring up the situation, especially SKY. As when they a slow news day they always drag out an old story

04 Jan 2012 08:51:22
i think the scoreline is deceptive of how we performed. we didnt play bad yesterday. i thought carrol was ok too. we lost at the crucial moments of the game and made fundamental errors. the 1st goal was a bad mistake from reina, the 2nd goal was poor man marking at the near post and the 3rd resulted from a poor freekick and yaya did the rest. if downing had scored (which he should have done) in the start i think it would have been a different story. carrol got so many flick on's and chest downs but somehow nobody was there to pick them up. i thought clichy was the weak link in the city defence and by playing kuyt with him we didnt expose him. credit to city though they were efficient and yaya is an absolute beast and kompany a wall.
why were the city fans leaving even when there team was winning. it just shows what type of club they are. i think after this match the players will have a point to prove in the league cup and i think we can beat them in the cup. we have to move on from this defeat it was just one of those days....
btw the weather is pretty warm down here in coastal india :)

amar

Maybe Bellers should have started and Stevie should have come on at half time.I am a Kuyt fan but to be honest its time to get a real right winger with pace and ability to deliver a cross and a goal scorer who scores 20-30 a season.Im sure it will be adderssed if not in this window then the next.I don't think the guys on this site really see players like neymar and huguain, hazzard etc arriving at anfield we are not in the champ league they will not come.But we can still attract top players i think we are not far away we play well have good possesion but need to be ruthless in front of goal.

Red raj

I agree... We didn't play poorly.... We seemed to control the match, but just couldn't finish. Does anyone else feel as though Downin could have scored using his right foot on that first chance by curling it around Hart? Instead,he waits for the ball to roll to his favored left foot giving him less of an angle... That goes in, it's a different game. We need someone who can use both feet to finish...

Surprised you had any nails left after watching yesterday's game!

The Real KB, ignore this fool, I know your not going to take it to heart anyway :)

Your completely right though, after every game win, lose or draw you get trolls coming on here either slating or praising our team. It gets a little annoying. I find the best thing to do is give it 24 hours until you return to read the posts.

One other thing. I envy that you have been able to get to so many games throughout your life, yet still have the passion and support for the club that few people on here will ever have. I'm a lot younger than you considering your first attendance was in 1974 and I've only been able to get to Anfield about 5 times so far. It's a shame, I'd love to go watch us play home or away every week, I just can't afford it!

I hope we find more supporters out there like yourself and I that will continue to support no matter what.

3-0 to Citeh was very flattering. We controlled the game but we had no cutting edge from 20 yards out. Yet this morning we are sitting pretty for a charge on the top 4. The only negative was Spurs winning last night. We desperately need a goal scorer & more bodies in the box when we attack. The amount of times I seen Andy Carroll in the box on his own with 6 Citeh defenders was unbeleivable. If you don't buy a ticket, you won't win the lottery.

Hai Ed..Great Site..and fantastic work..but a bad night yesterday..
but i am happy with the way we played..as a team..and i fully support my team..we still have 20 games to go..and if we really try hard we can reach the 4th spot easily..

But Ed lets be honest here and tell the fact..Downing is the flop of the season..you cant excuse anyone..even after 15 games...Ed here once said that you rate him more than ashley young..both are useless..
we could and should have bought another person far far better than him..he is 27 and we are sure gonna loose lots of money on him..

Andy Carroll..this guy is execptional liverpool player...Ed can u imagine a 35 mill player without scoringa single goal the whole season??i think thats more likely...we dont need a person to chest down the long balls, and head some balls..we need much more than that..

Ed mentioned that we need a poacher? tell me why did and for what did we bought carroll?
if we buy another striker and he gets clicked..how can we sell caroll..we are almost gonna loose another 20 mill on him...

Its a fact that we always supported our team on all occasions...we sold keane back to spurs after 6 months..and KK says no one is bigger than club...then y are we keeping carrol? and playing him..he is having potential..let him keep it with that..and use for a mid table team..we need to challenge the title in anotgher 2 years..thatz what the owner will be expecting...you cant blame them..

bellamy should have started, we are missing lucas..gerrard should have played behind the striker..
henderson..the lad is growing up..but pls dont play him right of midfield...if u dont have place..keep him in bench..we have kept carra in bench..never wanted to play carragher as a striker? henderson is kool wen he plays central..or more as an advance..

we need to buy a striker..coz..no one is scoring goals..
lets have faith in our team..
we need to beat stoke next time..no matter who scores...

You will never walk alone...

Poolgunner here. You played well last night and did not deserve to lose by such a margin. I still think Man City were there for the taking, you could see their players were affected by the weather. Mr Spearing had a solid game for his age, Downing provided the required pace going foward. In fact, i was impressed by your midfilders (except Henderson) in the first half, they played well. You always looked a threat going foward, but you did not create enogh goal scoring opportunities. Andy led the line fairly well, he doesn't deserve the criticism. Of course he was beaten to some headers by city defenders, but hey he is human. Dirk needs games to pick up his old form. Pick up yourselves and move on, ManCity are unbeaten at home in how many games? Arsenal lost to Fulham, but hey i am now looking foward to the next game with excitement. You did not do your goal difference any good though.

Poolgunner

According to a muppet on here a few weeks back,goal difference doesnt matter.Obviously forgot your Title win at our place

I was/am livid with how Torres conducted himself.But two sayings-needs must/nose off to spite face,spring to mind

Hey eds! I just wanted to get things clear.

I wan't to see 3 signings in jan. A poacher, CDM, and a winger who can play on both wings and CROSS THE BALL WELL! I would choose these guys.

Keisuke Honda - a great player, dominating both defensive and offensive.

Moussa Sissokho - Haven't seen much of him but from what I've been told and seen a little bit he is tall, really strong and quick.

Adam Johnson - Unhappy at Manchester s**tty, a quality player like this should play much more!

Roberto Soldado - One of the best poachers you could find, scoring so much in Spain!

Luuk De Jong - Would not be my favourite signing.

Moussa Sow - I love this guy and I would love to see him in a red kit!

Can you tell me something about the likelyness of those players signing for LFC?

Red from Iceland

04 Jan 2012 06:30:50
As an american I get very upset to see Landon Donovan go on his second loan to Everton. I know most of you think americans are crap... which we are for the most part, but this guy could have legitimately helped LFC while Suarez is out with the ban. He is twice the player Dempsey is and if Dempsey was on LFC he would be one of our top scorers this terrible season... Management needs to step their game up or we are going to be watching clubs with no class play in the champions league again.

04 Jan 2012 05:53:00
Hey guys. I know we didn't play well yesterday but the scoreline was harsh. Seeing a lot of these Carroll to Newcastle rumours. Surely Liverpool wouldn't sell him during this stage of the season, especially with suarez banned! We would need an immediate replacement.

True but plantpots on here domt see,or suddenly waking up to.Mind most never go anyhow.Waro,Redfow,Irish Rover speak most sense.Red Turk does in spells but far too harsh other times

04 Jan 2012 05:09:28
i rather see maxi or even sterling play than downing his a complete waste of space at this club.. if any1 should of been could dead wood its him

Yeap hes infuriating,he shouldve put us one up

Great site.. Once again... However eds just wanted to ask personally.. I know andy carroll wont be sold or loaned. However its not a stab at andy, however his style of play does not coincide with how we play, which is pass and move. Personally he is to slow and does not have the feet or technique to do so. As seen by him losing the ball whever its given to him. How long do you think eds before kenny and the backroom staff lose thier patience. And do you ed personally think hill come good. Heres hoping. One last note. Absoulutely great site you have here {Ed001's Note - I feel he has the range of passing necessary to be able to play a pass and move style, it is not necessarily about being able to move quickly. All he needs to do is play a pass, then get into position to receive one, you don't need pace to do that, Xavi has little pace after all and he is a master of the pass and move. I think he will improve and adapt, whether he will ever be able to fully slot in is a different matter, that is up to him and how hard he works at his game over the next few years.}

Xavi!!!!!! low centre of gravity n spansh with huge techncal ability, not a good comparison ed to be fair. 2nd best player in the world ( according to ballon dor etc), not knocking carroll but not rght for us at the mo n nshud not have been bought nor should have henderson, he been a passenger for us . just plays it simple all the time, bellamy n shelvey should have started. shelvey pushes forward alot when adam sits i.e against villa , so frustrted last nite, played well until we got up top n no incisive passing when we got into good positions(story of the season really, but we r very close to been a top side, gerard needs a top striker to feed n we need another creative midfielder n winger

5gold stars

I dont think you can compare Xavi to Andy Carrol. Xavi is class and AC will never be near his quality.

WB

04 Jan 2012 02:45:30
Downing and Carroll have been terrible all season, Craig Bellamy scores 2 in his last match and gets dropped whats up with that? Suarez out now for 8 games, we need a goal scorer anyway but even more so now. Carroll can't score, Downing can't score or provide the service, these type of players are good in average teams like Villa or Newcastle but when they come to a top team like Liverpool they can't cut it! {Ed001's Note - Bellamy has a knee problem that needs managing, he will not be able to start every game, no matter how much Kenny would love him to.}

I agree, Downing is average though I do feel sorry for AC. If only we could beat the first man when crossing a ball AC may have a chance. Still think he is not suited to our way of playing.

WB

You could start Bellamy then take him off!!!!

04 Jan 2012 01:41:16
I have one question for all the people slating Glen Johnson. People are saying he's out of order fir having a 'clause' in his contract that says he plays if fit. Hold on didn't he renew his contract last year? And who was the manager then?

I don't think he's played very well the last couple of games but to give him so much s@&t is ridiculous.

Maybe he was given this play when you're fit contract so that he can be sold in Jan or the summer. If that's the case then it's worth it. If he's not sold then will everybody blame KK cos ultimately it will have been his decision.

His defending has come on a lot but, like everyone in the team, he has made a couple of mistakes. And as for all those who say he can't cross, name me one player apart from stevie and Bellamy who has put in a decent cross all season.

Support the players ffs.

LJ

Kelly has a good cross in his locker

ok quick ?do we need a striker or not pool fans feel free to ans eds {Ed001's Note - clearly we need a poacher.}

04 Jan 2012 01:32:36
I am slowly reaching the end of my patience with AC. He was slow to the ball, bad positional anticipation, not to mention out jumped on more than one occasion by Clichy.
Compare AC's performance to Dzeko who is also a tall lad, and it was like night and day, Dzeko moved aroundm
AC was sadly shown up as a very one dimensional player tonight.

Carroll put in a decent shift for the service he got

cozinoz

Carroll is no good , what does he contribute and when he is on the pitch the rest of the team are programmed to pass to him all the time if he was',t there they could get on with their own game.

Carrol had much better game than dzeko. he out jumped when given good cross and linked up well. if midfielders cant win ball or put good passes into him, well he cant be blamed. Thought Adam poor again, and im not an itoldyouso fan. out of form and could just need a rest as he has played well and looked fitter. as for kuyt a shame as his body language looked elsewhere

taffytel

Re.Dzeko difference is Cuteh have options and not just cosve cash,though helps.At mo we have to play Carrol

Andy Carroll keeps 3 defenders busy, making space for our attackers.

04 Jan 2012 01:27:08
I haven't posted much here in a while but just want to add my bit to tonight's escapades.
The performance wasn't bad.
All 3 goals could have easily been stopped & Downing has no excuse for his miss in the opening stages, NONE whatsoever - lacked composure!
Carroll is a decent striker & may well develope into a good striker but he was left isolated for pretty much 75 mins tonight until Maxi came on - poor tactics!
Clarke / KK put the wrong markers on the wrong players for defensive set pieces in hindsight.
Johnson on Toure was a terrible mistake.
On Pepe, why not cash in come the summer if we can find a good, younger replacement?!
He's a good player but i feel he's one more mistake away from having to be moved on - we simply can't afford to have him make those mistakes when things are so tight for 4th, no player is bigger than the club or is irreplaceable! His concentration is slipping!
We played ok over all i thought but CLEARLY CLEARLY NEED A GOAL SCORING STRIKER!
Maybe 2?! Only Gerrard can finish it seems!
Please don't be too down guys, we're finished with Man City in the league now & have 18 games now to claw back 3 points to get 4th (It's only 3 points).
This time last season we were on about 19 points so we're 15 better off now & the squad is better now!
We need to continue improving the squad next summer.
This project will take another 1 & a half to 2 full seasons to start really paying off so be patient!
Relax & what will be will be!
Cheers,
Irish Kev. {Ed001's Note - I think it is corners in the attacking third that are more of an issue than defensive ones. We don't seem to have enough bodies attacking the ball.}

Maybe Ed ya, but City have scored two against us from corners in our last two games.
Only for a decent save from Reina tonight, that stat would have been at three.
Also Blackburn scored from a corner recently albeit via an own goal.
We are on the right track no doubt about it but we desperately need some attackers who can finish a bit better than what we have currently.
We're clearly making countless chances & clearly wasting far too many.
What happens if those chances dry up?!
I just hope Kenny has a surprise up his sleeve for a forward or two this window.
Something like what happened with Coates (except actually give them playing time unlike what's happening with Coates lol).
But all in all we are in a much better position now than this time last year.
It's only 3 points & we play Chelsea & Arsenal at Anfield so it's in our own hands!
The only game left i feel we may struggle in is Man U away.
This is simply due to emotions running high with all the recent rubbish surrounding both clubs (Suarez / Evra) - I'm not getting dragged into that one!
Can see the referee sending off one or two of our players in that game under pressure from the home fans, but we'll see.
They are better than us too to be fair.
Chelsea are not all that & a bag of potatoe chips as Austin Powers might say & we can definitely beat them at home, same against Arsenal.
They both have to play each other & both Manchester clubs so if we keep creating & start taking our chances we'll definitely get 4th at least!
God how I wish Carroll would fulfill his promise this season - he just has no help and / or luck currently.
Dzeko has hardly set the world alight either but his team are top so it's not all Andy's fault.
Cheers,
Irish Kev.

It would not of been 3 if there first one had gone in they wouldn't of had the 2nd corner at that stage would they? think for gods sake.

Tom.

Jesus Tom relax lad!
If that's the main problem you found with the post then fair play to you buddy!!!

04 Jan 2012 01:23:45
Without over analysing the game, because the performance was generally poor and finishing woeful.
If LFC do not sign a striker and attacking mid/right wing, I just can't see us getting the goals we require.
We can not rely on the present team for the 'cutting edge' so desperately needed.
Kompany was brilliant, I recall us being linked with him a few seasons back, missed out there big-time!.

Amazing-all have woken.but youll be slagged as a"I told you so"now.A lot on here if you dont agree by daring to point out a defeciency-your vtold ypu aint a fan.Even if you go nearly every game,support at game,but aint daft enough not to see where improvements needed

Ed001, what do you think of Nathan Clyne as a potential replacement for Glen Johnson? (If he was to go.)

I've only seen him once or twice but he looked a decent player when i seen him.

Thanks

Stu. {Ed001's Note - what's wrong with Kelly? Kelly is twice the player Clyne is mate.}

No i know i wasn't disputing Kelly mate!

Was just thinking of any potential replacements, got another question if you don't mind!

Do you think Flanno's got the potential for Liverpool?

Thanks again

Stu.

Hi ed why cant we sign owen on loan for season he doing nought at man u and we need good striker,him and suarez would be good ,get rid of caroll,henderson,get nolan as back up as good player,loves us and mate of gerrard would get him cheap,adam johnson would be ideal,big blow losing lucas,frei would be great signing,poldolski also cool,not sure if suarez could work with bent may get misconstrued anyway hope we make good late run like last season x {Ed001's Note - you know Owen is injured as usual? As well as being a judas, traitorous little money grabbing slime ball.}

That is a nice description Ed to be honest lol.

Anyone remembers the last time we lost 3-0 at Man City? It was the second league game of Roy Hodgson's reign.

Anyway, I have said this for more than half a year now, that Martin Kelly, NOT Glen Johnson, should be the first choice right back. If I were Kenny I'd be looking to sell him right this window. If it's some contract issue, just get someone at Melwood to break his leg. We're paying 120k a week for rubbish. None of the other players are paid as high as him. Few of us will earn that amount in a year, let alone a week. He'll be able to get by. Martin Kelly is everything Glen Johnson isn't.

Keith YNWA

Keith. What a despicable 'human being' you are. Asking for one of our players legs to be broken. YNWA. I hope you never walk again.... K**b

LB

Absolute tosh!!!
Keith, stop believing everything you read for the love of god!

EDs ban this guy from the site forever please !
how on earth can anyone seriously suggest that one of our own should get his leg deliberately broken by one of our own ? You absolute moran.

Now more than ever we have to get behind Suarez, show him that we still support him and that he is still wanted at the club, dont let him feel alone by saying we should sell him or what ever! We never let a player walk alone, so come on show him why he shouldnt even think of leaving the club!!

its really appalling to see lfc fans accepting being losers on and off the field

You gotta sometimes lose so you can win!
What team wins every game?
Liverpool will have a glorious day (or two) again soon enough don't you worry your pretty little head about that!

Ya glorious day
they will be celebrating a 1-0 win against bolton because its a glorious victory for them

Dirk Kuyt, Charlie Adam and Stuart Downing are not good enough.

Who would you replace them with then eh?

I'd replace Kuyt with De Jong.
I'd replace Adam with Banega
I'd replace Downing with Adam Johnson.

But we should support the players we have.

Kuyt has been a good player (not great but good) for the club for several years. He has never been the best technically and now that he is getting on a bit I think he cannot compensate as much with tireless running.

Adam is not as useless as many "supporters" would have you believe. He is a decent player who clearly has ability but sometimes makes errors of judgement and despite the efforts of the fitness staff, still tires quickly. But I think we should support the lad and hang onto him. He'll come good.

Downing has not been what I hoped he would be (a creative and effective outlet out wide which we have lacked for so long) but he has not been abysmal either. I think he lacks some composure on the ball and ability with dribbling and crossing, but much of that may be confidence.

We might get new players in and we might not. Been slagging of the current ones does not help in any way. Support the players we have and if Kenny decides we need some more then we' ll support those as well.

Anfield Rapstar

Anfield Rapstar,
I genuinely believe most of us have never seen much of any of the players like De Jong that are mentioned on here at times.
Unless people watch them on Youtube & the like or play Football Manager.
I'm a big football fan & i haven't ever seen De Jong play live for example.
Johnson is a fine winger & we've seen him rip us apart at times but De Jong & Banega?
Come on mate, do you really think that they'll fit in at Liverpool that easily?
What has De Jong got in his locker that you like so much?
Has he ever played against English opposition before & if so, how was his performance(s)?
What are both players strengths & weaknesses that makes it so imperative we sign them?
I'm genuinely interested in your answers here as a Liverpool fan of 24 years nearly, I'm not trying to be a smart ar$e!
I may have to respond to any answers you might give back tomorrow afternoon / evening though as it's nearly bedtime for me now.
Cheers,
Irish Kev.

Irish Kev,

I've not seen De Jong. I agree that alot if fans seem to be jumping on the bandwagon because the eds have linked him. Not saying he isn't good.

Banega on the other hand is a gen if a player. I'd say he has the passing Ttributes of Xabi, but is a shorter and a little more mobile. He had a stinging shot on him too. The real treat though is his ability to dictate a game. If he saw as much ball did us as say Charlie does, he'd be picking out every pass under the sun. In talking raking passes, around the corner passes, diagonals and most required threaded through balls with the weight on them. The knew that fall into the natural stride of a front man. We would be lucky to have him.

Fingers crossed.

D-Day (1892)

I hear ya D-Day mate & i have seen Banega on a couple of occasions live myself but wasn't overly impressed tbh.
Played against us pre-season if memory serves & didn't play too well (i know it was only a week or two into his pre-season etc.).
There must be some reason why he hasn't been bid for by us.
Apparently last season he was available for around £10m due to a bust up with the manager at Valencia but we never made a move.
Surely right now we should be looking for strikers though or finishers more importantly?!
We can't afford to keep missing chances like we have so far this season.
Within 2 minutes tonight we went from what should have been 1 nil to us to 1 nil down - Downing's finish was awful!
Personally i'd go all out & blow most of our summer budget for Cavani - he is worth a risk as he seems to be a finisher & did one on City's defence a few weeks back.
Offer £60m if needs be as he's young & maybe a back up like Jelavic from Rangers for £8m.
Finally if we could get a young top right winger with pace & a decent whipped cross i'd be very very satisfied.
We'd have a good squad for next season then i feel.
Cheers,
Irish Kev.

Despite the score (which was in no way reflective) , there wasn't that much wrong tonight until you reached the front - and that was quality of supply and general trickery in the box. The difference I felt was Kompany and Richards - both of whom had excellent games. Red Lenin

Yip, Kompany had the measure and more of AC the whole night.

Agreed Red Linen mate.
Irish Kev. {Ed001's Note - hahaha not sure if the Linen bit was intentional, but either way I like it.}

Good spot Ed.
You're clearly still wide awake anyway!
Eagle eyed monster ya lol!
Irish Kev. {Ed001's Note - making a mistake wakes you up a bit, you start taking much more notice of everything so you don't make even more of a fool of yourself! At least Linen/Lenin isn't as bad as getting the games mixed up.}

Spotted that from you earlier alright.
My Jesus how i laughed when i read it, I nearly choked on me Mars bar lol!
Not like you, (forgetfulness) first sign of age catching up with ya they say lol!
Now, wheres the end of that Mars bar....nom nom nom?! :)
Cheers & good night one & all.

Retire my ar$e?

This site would be no fun then lol!
Who would we laugh at then lol?
Only joking mate!
Definitely off to my bunk now - knackered!
Cheers & good night (AGAIN),

But thats been trouble all season.We need a playmaker and forward of top quality.(a right winger,maybe even two forwards

Just wanted to know what people's opinions are on the 'fields on anfield road' facebook page?

he claims to have inside knowledge but all the information they put on the site has been discussed months in hand before they broadcast it.

also they are currently saying that Riena had a transfer request handed in and was about to make a move to United, surely if that was true other people would of picked up on it too.

thoughts people?

We're obviously all gutted after tonight although its quite astonishing how fickle some people are.

Firstly until tonight we had the best defensive record in the league and it still aint that bad now.

Also if you look at our position in the league compared to the last two seasons there are many positives to take from this. We are only 3 points of fourth and what's more is we still have to play Chelsea and Arsenal at Anfield who are our closest contenders.

Furthermore I believe that despite losing suarez for this long is a blow I think it could also be a blessing because he is going to have a rest from playing and come back fresh. Kenny said all along that it would be hard for him to keep it up all season.

Why is everyone getting on the teams backs. Man utd and spurs lost by more...

SR {Ed001's Note - our league defensive record has not changed, it wasn't a league match tonight!!!}

You what ed? {Ed002's Note - I am guessing he had a senior moment.}

You what ed? {Ed005's Note - A mistake from ed001 I'm sure!}

Yes was!

{Ed001's Note - our league defensive record has not changed, it wasn't a league match tonight!!}

Yes it was

Oh thats ok then if we were not the worst losers

Is that a joke Ed?

Stu.

Ed i'm pretty sure it was a league match {Ed005's Note - I has been clarified that it was an error. Thanks.}

It was a premier league game tonight it is carling cup next week! {Ed001's Note - I know, I know! I read a post just before talking about the Oldham game and had, as 002 puts it, a senior moment. They are making sure to point it out to me repeatedly on our widget believe me! *sighs*}

I dont think we should mention that ED001 had a senior moment again, it is so unfair. After all it was only a senior moment for ED001 and most people can have senior moments including ED001, who as you have rightly pointed out , has in fact had a senior moment (again).

well thats the last time hopefully that anyone ever mentions EDs001 senior moments for ages.....

Ok thats long enough, had any senior moments lately ED001 ?

The Irish Rover got it spot on tonight.
Unfortunately. Lol.
And with that thought, I am gonna try to get some sleep.
I say try, cos losing an evening footy match has the same effect as about 5 x cans of red bull. And then reading this page afterwards adds another 3 x cans !
Sleep tight all.

ed i'd just like to know please, what stopped us buying adam johnson in the previous summer transfer window, given that we could easily have paid 20 mil for him, he's 24, he's english and i understand kenny dalglish likes his style of play, so the people on this site say, so why didn't we make a move for him?? Thnx {Ed001's Note - because City refused to part with him until they signed a replacement.}
