anything new on heung min son, wasnt vdv saying we had enquired about him a few weeks ago

tom1975

A frontline of
suarez sturridge heung-min would have some serious pace and abilty about it

04 Jan 2013 23:26:27
Just seen Paul ince in town an asked about Tom he said if Tom plays tomorrow its off till summer an if he gets left out put money on him coming to th reds!

04 Jan 2013 23:39:04
His move to Liverpool wouldnt be called off just because he couldnt play a few games in the f.a. cup this season.

04 Jan 2013 23:21:11
If Brendan rodgers made an enquiry into besiktas selling Quaresma last summer but was turned away by the 7-8 million asking price surely to take him on a free now is a pretty decent opportunity considering our budget even with his problems, I'd like to know the eds opinions on him as a player, depsite doing badly at barca, inter and especially chelsea i think he's been pretty good playing at besiktas not taking into account the problems with players and management

04 Jan 2013 23:13:25
eds, why doesnt brendan rate coates. when he played i thoght he played good. {Ed052's Note - im not sure. He hasn't been great when he's played this season}

Eds i agree with the post, and you also, but like sterling and wisdom, if coates was given a run of game he would show his class, it would be a huge mistake amd make us into a laughing stock if we let him go, a bit like ince, BR should send him out on loan, to get match fit and to gain even more experience, if anyone doubts coates ability then they should watch the last copa america where he won the youbg player of the tournament, also it was his debut for the national side, so he cant be that bad

05 Jan 2013 05:46:06
He is young and needs playing time. Both our centre backs have also been inconsistent as well as many other players. Look at downing for example, but given more playing time has improved him. Coates should be given more Chances and not shipped out or put on the bench most of the time and expected to become good. Terrible footballing decision if let go. K

Sometime back..an ed called him a legend...
how quick the time goes on..and opinion changes {Ed052's Note - I dont ever recall calling Coates a legend}

But one of the eds did say he was going to be an awesome player for us, maybe not in those exact words but definitely one of the eds rated him highly!

Biggy Balls

Tbh I'd have Coates over carragher on the pitch anyday!

Hi Eds, love the site.

In Rodgers press conference today he suggested that Liverpool may be signing one other player at most. When asked about the possibility of signing Ince or Butland he replied no. He also said Liverpool would be very quiet in Jan transfer window due to the finances.

If those two players can be discounted and finances are an issue, who would you guess at being the most likely to join, be it on loan or permanent?

Red MJ

He only said no to butland but said there hasn't been any development with blackpool

04 Jan 2013 23:07:07
Hello everyone! Not a rumour but have a funny feeling something may happen with ince tomorrow because liverpool & ince will want to sort his future out before he plays on the weeekend an is cup tied when he joins us.
Also wanted to see everyones opinions on ince? and who everyone else would realistically like to see for the reds:)
Thanks YNWA
Jay-D

Sneijder mate.

04 Jan 2013 23:25:50
Gameiro.

Gameiro I watched him play a couple years ago an he was awesome first touch an eye for goal is top class! If we could pull that off I'd live it!

Sturridge right Suarez left gameiro centre all interchanging would be one of the best strikeforces.

04 Jan 2013 23:01:06
Stewart downing to sunderland sccording to a website transfer clockwatch! Just when hes been getting ok playing him in the shop window id say haha

04 Jan 2013 22:51:51
don't think Liverpool fans in general would be happy if we just sign sturridge in January

I'm a LFC fan who would be happy if we just sign Sturridge.
For too long this club has wasted money on journeymen, players who can "do a job", and then had to pay to release them from a crazy contract.
No more. Signings should be strategic with a long term plan.
We have Borini coming back and Kelly to come back. That's like 2 new signings and Hendo and Downing are showin a bit of ability.

Marcus Aurelius

I would because we need a striker and he is, at least, a good start.
derryred

Give sturidge a chance please and if the existing players try harder and foget about the passing style being forced on them by br we can rise again.

I'd like more, because Transfer deadline day is my second christmas, and after the summer one I need some excitement!
Sam

Dear ian arye,
I'm really fed up of liverpool buying average players and then complaining about a big wage bill. They should buy one world class star every year and promote kids. That's the way the club should be run.

Dear oh dear, if only it was as simple as that!! Madrid tried that and have been left in Barcelonas wake for years!

Mike S

Tottaly agree get the squad numbers then buy 1 top quality break the bank but we just keep buying several average players instead of one quality player

I disagree, sturridge is a decent player and will add to the squad but we need more than just him

we need more matchwinners, be they youngish 21-23 talent from europe or wherever, or more senior proven stars, we just need more players with game changing abilty

tom1975

04 Jan 2013 23:31:17
That may well be done when we're in a position to do that and compete. Every club would love to be able to do that but it's just not that easy.

Sorry but havent barcelona done that too

last three season one star player

villa then sanchez then fabregas

Sturridge 12 mill or holtby free next summer???
we paid 5 mill more for sturridge than what he actually cost now...
if footballers are paid according to their current form...
sturridge would cost us 5-6 mill...

04 Jan 2013 22:23:01
What this that David Villa has agreed terms with Arsenal? Quite a few telling porkys about seeing him in John Lennon airport

It was cheaper with ryanair to fly to liverpool then get the national express coach to london.

04 Jan 2013 22:19:40
Hello eds. This comes from El Mundo, the Spanish newspaper, just few hours ago. "The midfielder Sofiane Feghouli explained, whilst extending his contract until 2016, that his intention was never to leave the Valencia, and he said he is in one of the "best clubs in the world." He has extended his contract until 2016 "referring to his priority not to leave Valencia in the coming years."

Can we put this rumour to bed for good now? Thanks for all the great work.

GALF {Ed002's Note - Sure, if it keeps you happy.}

04 Jan 2013 23:36:23
I think ive heard his name mentioned on here on one occassion.

I just heard he has a buy clause maybe we can trigger it in the summer...

04 Jan 2013 22:19:37
Just wondering whoever spurs sign...did we really miss out on them? grow up! dempsey, sigurdsson and dembele have been pap! they might get this one right...1 out of 4 is bad buisness...add to that bale will be gone in the summer.

Dembele is a class player and has looked good when fit.

g-doo

04 Jan 2013 23:48:31
Its funny how some people complain saying spurs go after every player that we go for then whenever spurs sign anyone its like 'why didnt we go for him?!'

Dembele and holtby are class..
if they add diamo in summer...
can u see us overtaking them????

04 Jan 2013 22:18:13
Holtby signs for spurs in the summer and linked with sneijder. Gutted. We don't seem to be able to compete for signatures. If they make top 4 this season they will be more attractive to top stars, especially as they are London based. Sad times that champions league is needed to sign the best players.

Errrr yeah we do we just got sturridge a player AVB would have probably loved

SO GET REAL

Avb wasn't at all interested in sturridge!

Spurs will get their man...
diamo in summer...I admire daniel levy as an outstanding owner...
sold modrich for 35 mill...never gave up on the price..bought adebayor fo 6 mill...demebel for 15 mill..
the guys is class in negotiation...

04 Jan 2013 22:39:00
Is there any truth in the rumours of Jack Robinson possibly going out on loan? Also Thimothee Kolodzieczak replacing him whoever he may be read a few things on the main Liverpool site.

Also is there any interest in Isimat-Mirin to replace Coates ?

04 Jan 2013 21:59:52
(( ))
liverpool football club will sign Kévin Gameiro on loan within the next 48hrs not sure as yet to how long the loan will be im told 6 months . this guy can score goals .remember my name L.F.C RED .

O common...I hope you are right, he is very good forward :)
That would make perfect transfer window for me
RITMICAK

04 Jan 2013 21:33:36
Sorry but this talk of Richards ? WHY ? surly we have same or better and nit short in this area.

04 Jan 2013 20:34:26
Sahin will not leave, regardless of the press, he is happy now and will be played in his position.
I can't believe u guys want him gone just after 12 games with 3 goals and 3, stats only second to SG in midfield
He will rise just like Lucas
Believe
Ali g

And 3 what.....? I'll never know!!

I don't believe we have seen the best of him yet though.

Myk

You haven't been on Mars for 6 months have you?
You do know he is only on loan and if he is not going to play he will e costing an absolute fortune for nothing!
With no sell on fee at the end!!

Wakey wakey!

Lyndon

04 Jan 2013 22:41:24
Ali g mate do you realy think Rodgers is going to play him deeper where he wants to play sry mate I can't see coz that role is played by lucas and Allen at the sametime Rodgers has dropped Allen in favour of hendo who is AM. Rodgers doesn't want any deeper lying Midfield anymore if needed then Allen will be used so only one place is left which Lucas is occupying it can't see sahin dislodging lucas at the moment.
Its very, very tough situation for both Sahin and Rodgers. Since Rodgers came in every player had to adapt their game/position but sahin is crying like baby which is disgrace at the sametime the lad is on 100+k aweek and going all over media spouting how he is not happy and how he is been treated bla bla that's bull for me mate. He needs to understand that team comes first no one is bigger then LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB if players like Gerrard, Suarez and company are ready to adapt their game and play where the gaffer wants so who is Sahin.

04 Jan 2013 20:32:03
the forward line until summer will be

suarez left sturridge central downing/sterlin right

understudies borini assaidi suso

with cole leaving and assaidi off to acon we are still short up top

so far out carroll maxi kuyt bellamy cole
in borini assaidi sturridge promoted suso sterling

04 Jan 2013 22:45:42
Add Ince and Gameiro to that aswell.

I d love if it we did add ince and gameiro

tom1975

04 Jan 2013 21:29:20
Non LFC but Fernando Llorente on the way to Juventus for a fee of 5million EUROS

04 Jan 2013 21:12:27
Some question for you, Eds. How did Liverpool persuade a player from a decent Champions League club to join Liverpool? I am talking about Suarez. I was just wondering, can this method not be repeated in the summer, to bring in a higher calibre of players, for a little more money?

Piledriver {Ed052's Note - of course it can. Its all about persuasion}

Agreeing with ed. why we should be looking at bringing in players like aubameyang dries mertens etc in this window

05 Jan 2013 01:23:51
Suarez was persuaded by Torres, he said so...

04 Jan 2013 21:02:55
i like sturridge he will add to the side but we still have not overcome our problem.

if luis gets injured we are back in the bottom half of the table. we need more than one striker in this window because is suarez does get injured we are screwed

over reliance on one player doesnt work. gerrard tried it all alone, we only became succesful when rafa added to it. brendan needs to do the same. we have a lot of potentially good youngsters. now we need more proven firepower

tom1975

Think we need to give Borini a chance before splashing out on another striker.

Borini is unproven though, do you want to rely on him and sturridge if luis gets injured... my point is we do not have enough matchwinners in the side...

04 Jan 2013 20:24:01
Tom Ince looks very good

I think Sturridge is probably better looking!

Sturridge especially in that lovely jumper

Tom ince looks good in champship, but can he make it at the top?
Doubt

04 Jan 2013 20:17:26
good evening, has anyone mentioned the fact if brendon rodgers could swallow his pride and bring big Andy back, what a plan b we would have 4-4-2 andy carroll and Daniel Sturridge up front, your thoughts please.
cheers teapot

Not gonna happen. He wants his stock up so he can be sold in the summer, he needs to play and get goals, That's not going to happen him sitting on our bench ....

Where would suarez play

Terrible idea and would undo all the progress we've made. He's scored, what, one goal for West Ham who SUIT HIS STYLE OF PLAY.

I can't figure out why people would want Carroll back. He's simply not very good. His work rate is terrible and his effort in training very poor (thus why he's always injured). If you just want a semi-tall guy to lump balls forward to, then put Coates up front as he's even taller and arguably better with his feet.

I don't see a good Liverpool future with Carroll instead of Suarez...

Piledriver

Who would Suarez be transferred to then ...........

Carroll does not fit Rodgers idea of a Liverpool player not just in terms of ability but also attitude, commitment, professionalism and desire.

He will not be coming back.

Andy carroll is crap

majestic69

Whats it got to do with his pride if he doesn't want to play that style of football

Lyndon

I like Carroll, but BR doesn't. He just doesn't fit, but if we just had Carroll back, probs on the bench, all we'd have to deal with every game, every press conference is 'Why isn't Carroll playing, you paid £35 for him?' That would be a nightmare, so he's better off out the club.

Po

As an earlier poster said so eloquently, Andy Carroll is crap

Chris in Tamworth

I said plan b Suarez will stay

Rodgers will not shift from 4-3-3. Forget it.

I think Carroll is a good traditional centre forward and would certainly fit into our team, but unfortunately if he were to be deployed then it would require Brendan to completely re-configure our style of play which would defeat the whole purpose served so far this season. We are moving in the rite direction. I wish Big Andy all the best because at the end of the day he wanted to play in a red shirt and thats worth something.

Just wondered if the rumors of coates leaving on loan or on a permanent deal have any legs.
personally i just cant see it happening as its been painfully obvious during the last few cameo appearances that carra has made that he isn't the answer should skrtle or agger be out for any length of time, no disrespect towards carra intended as hes been a true servant to the club but i think this will be his last season.
kelly and wisdom are doing a sound job of covering on the right though wisdom has overtaken kelly in BR's pecking order and neither is at a high enough level to cover center back for a sustained period of time just yet and with the fa cup and europa games coming thick and fast were going to need somebody of coates's quality as back up and lets not forget how poor aggers injury record is, surly it wont be long before hes heading for a spell on the sidelines.
Jaydee ynwa

Completely disagree with one thing you said, kelly is a class player who i think can play either right or center back very well, in my opinion could replace carra

Of course wisdom is ahead of kelly seeing as kelly is injured

Wisdom can also play centre back, hes played 95% of his career so far there.

Kelly is a great player, in my opinion our most solid full back and if he was fit now I'd always try and find a space for him in the team!

Wisdom is solid enough and a decent prospect but certainly not ahead of Wisdom in the pecking order!

I agree Carragher isn't the answer anymore, great servant but legs have gone and he truly struggles so I agree I feel we need to keep Coates as a back-up centre half while Kelly is out.

CHickey.

04 Jan 2013 20:05:56
right Arda Turan is a possibilty in january if Downing and Henderson leave Coates will leave and his replacement will be Rafael Varane from Real Madrid Rodgers wants this move as he thinks Varane will offer real competiton

We have wisdom, Kelly and sama coming through so I think we are fine.

04 Jan 2013 19:58:47
Poeple are seriously getting carried away with Holtby. I've seen him play quite a bit.

Good young player but he'll stuggle to make the spurs team. Dembele and siggurdson are both better IMO and spurs mostly play 4/4/2 so will play a DM.

Hopefully Sigurddson will leave Spurs at the end of the season and come to us. We'll see the true sigurdsson under BR

Also Just be glad they haven't got Moutinho. He'll be a game changer for sure if they get him.

Wouldn't want Sigurdsson, we should be going for Erikson. Agree about the Moutinho, but Holtby will be good, Schalke have done well recently and the Bundesliga is really similar in style to the epl. We lost out on a good signing, we should just accept that rather than slagging him off. We just have to prove we can do fine on our own

Why all the worry about Spurs?

KJS

Maybe because their league position?

In regards to the second commentor, Holtby gets substituted every single game for schalke and is having a very mediocre with very little assists or goals. Trust me. He's good but like I said not better than Siggurdsson or Dembele.

With regards eriksen, I too would prefer him .Just seems unlikely to me without champions league. But who knows. We keep up recent form maybe, just maybe theres still a chance.

I agree the fact that they have holtby does hint that they won't be getting moutinho.
derryred

04 Jan 2013 19:45:05
well he was hardly going to come out and say we have alot of money was he?

DB9

04 Jan 2013 19:41:02
Another forward is a must, I hope the owners get there hand in their pocket. All top teams have 4 attacking options and I mean out an out forwards sterling doesn't count.

Definately agree ..stuyrridge is carroll s replacement so who will be coles, i thought our squad was already thin

Chelsea have two, unless they're not a top team

Why is Stirling not an attacking option? Would you say he is to defiencive minded.

KIMBER

Eh, cos they are bottom of the Scottish Third Division?!

Coyle's Law states......

Coles replacement ? so you want to pay someone else that money to sit on a bench?
derryred

For kimber the person who can't read, I said out and out forwards, so no sterling doesn't count.

04 Jan 2013 19:35:22
Any news on Darren Bent? Reds or otherwise, still think if we could get him for close to nothing it would be good business.

04 Jan 2013 21:31:40
errrrm no.

04 Jan 2013 19:30:58
Eds, fellow reds, after BR comments today do you still see ince and or a loan comming in this month .

04 Jan 2013 19:23:14
Hi Edds just wondering what the situation is with Darren bent is? And you think there will be anymore business? {Ed052's Note - he could move. Yes}

04 Jan 2013 19:22:18
After the farce of the summer transfer window, I'm sure we were promised by Warner that we were looking at a number of signings which would please the fans in January. Now we have very little money and the only signing we have made has already been warned by Rogers that this is the last chance for him to perform at a big club ? Sorry Eds i'm not expecting Torres or Villa but its about time we put the Aldi trolley away and started shopping at Sainsburys. Any news on the stadium ? PS Just seen Titus Bramble at John Lennon Airport ! {Ed052's Note - nothing on the redevelopment no¤}

Total agreement, werner leading us on again... should know not to trust the man by now...

tom1975

Think werner got a little bit too excited and run his mouth off after the suarez show at norwich

JOZLFC

Actually I've bought the LFC magazine this month in John Lennon airport (yesterday actually) and there was an interview with Lucas and he said it was good for his old club, Gremio, to move to a new stadium however he said that staying at anfield is also the right thing for us and everyone will be happy to have a "bigger Anfield". Sums it up really!

Irish Redman

Not sure about Aldi. Aren't we the biggest spenders in the window so far? 5th biggest spenders in the summer (and Southampton were one of the teams that outspent us) so that suggests FSG are backing the manager although as sane people have pointed out we are trying to make signings that fit a strategy and also trying to reduce wage bill and create space for talented youngsters in the squad.

Stop moaning.

PieInTheSkyMan

04 Jan 2013 19:17:43
Spurs set to sign Holtby in July (confirmed), Strong rumours that Arsenal have agreed to sign David Villa for £12.5m and we're stuck with Sturridge. No offence to the lad, he's young and with lots of potential, a good buy in my opinion, but other clubs are signing players a class above... Thoughts? Kevin Gameiro is IMO the type of player and quality we need. Great job eds, do you actually believe we have a realistic chance of signing him on loan?
Thanks YoungRedJ

Gameiro would add some proven experience i agree

04 Jan 2013 22:57:07
Is Holtby really any good? I'll be honest I don't rate him.

Why is everyone shouting for gamiero, is he really that good, anytime i've watched psg (granted not a lot) he wasn't in the starting 11.
derryred

Gamerio was a classy 1 touch finish, no nonsense striker at FC Lorient, scoring about 50 goals in 100 games. He moved to PSG and did alright but its hard to get out in front of Zlatan isn't it? Even if we get him on loan, a interchanging front 3 of Gamerio-Sturridge-Suarez is deadly.

04 Jan 2013 19:07:50
Not a rumour more a FACT. Stewart Downing will not be sold in January. He was told he had no future unless he did something about his performances and he has. You cannot dismiss him the way he has played in the last 4/5 games (bar Villa - everyone was terrible) he has been like a new signings. We need strikers to take a chance on his balls. No point in him whipping balls in from 30 yards across the 6 yard box if no-one is going to take a chance. I think Liverpool's biggest weakness is left back. There needs to be an out and out left back (not makeshift) in the team. Hopefully LFC can find one to cover/challenge Enrique. Promising signs from the reds hope to make it 3 in a row against the Mancs. RedSquiz

04 Jan 2013 19:02:29
Not a rumour but fact, the eds were correct yet again. Holtby has igned for Spurs and will move in summer. Jitzo

04 Jan 2013 19:00:11
Lewis Holtby has snubbed firm offers from Arsenal and Liverpool to join Spurs in July. There were also formal enquiries from Inter, Valencia and Everton but the pull of AVB and in particular his German assistant Steffen Freund swayed the balance in Spurs favour.

04 Jan 2013 18:54:51
Ahoy - and given Evertons recent announcement of a £9.0m operating loss ( certainly not a criticism given some recent balance sheets) it would be a good time to post my favourite transfer window rumour.

Russell Hobbs £19.99 Argos to Everton.

From my record Ed's I have have sneaked this one through in the 7 consecutive windows.

BOILED ONIONS

04 Jan 2013 18:52:25
Any news on Lewis Holtby?

04 Jan 2013 18:37:36
Good signing for spurs but don't you think they have lots of midfielder specially AM. Is kranceak (spelling) still there
Red 316 {Ed052's Note - no}

04 Jan 2013 18:30:51
So Holtby off to spurs and lots of posts asking why we didn't sign him, or have not so far made offers to any of the other players who's contracts are up in the summer. I agree that its disappointing to see a quality player going to our rivals, but who is to say that we were not interested in Holtby and are not interested in any of the other players....perhaps they are not interested in coming to us at the moment?

Is ok us making a contract offer to someone, quite another for them to accept it.

With the 'purse strings to be relaxed in the summer' you would have thought we could afford to pay someone we really wanted a good signing on fee and decent wage.......IAGO ASPAS could be a great player to get on a pre-contract, shame that Walcott cannot talk to UK clubs until summer...

lets wait until the window shuts before we condemn or congratulate our transfer business....

Has tom (pepper) werner been saying we will have money to spend in the summer again, god how many times are you lot going to believe him before you call yourself tools for believing in him in the 1st place, once bitten amd all that, we are supposed to be the most knowledgeable fans in the world, but we keep getting had off by another yank

04 Jan 2013 18:23:26
Holtby going to spurs...it's official

We need a left back ed.....help? {Ed052's Note - you want me to come out of retirement? }

04 Jan 2013 18:22:24
Hi eds,

Have you seen the news about the Watford player being loaned out by them when he is already on loan to them from an Italian club. Technically there is no reason why we could not loan out Sahin if Real Madrid agreed. This is news to me but opens up options for us. Any thoughts?

Cheers JLT. {Ed052's Note - only for a penny....}

04 Jan 2013 18:20:21
so br has said today theres basicly no money to do any more buisness this window, that maybe 1more might come in, lets just hope hes agood bluffer& only saying that so we wont be held to ransom for any other targets we have, or if its true then the owners dont trust him with there money, yes hes spent 12mil on sturridge, but we need more if we were to bring another 2 top quality players this window we wouldnt be far away from top 4& maybe even higher, also what have our new scouts been doing, we seem to be just looking at players br has worked with before,
heres hoping theres still more singings to come
IRISH RED

I hope so as sturride is andy carrolls relacement in the squad which was thin, so now we lose joe cole another squadie leaving us still short of experience at the top end of the field.

another cost cutting exercise by fsg?

1 in 1 out, roders sayin there might be another while spurs sign holtby someone we could have used come summer. not too happy with where all this is going. we need 1 more experienced attacking addition at least. someone who can add to the starting 11 and give sterling a rest

not the convincing window i was hoping for at all

tom1975

You must be gutted the transfer window is closed then, Tom1975?
Oh, hang on ........

cozinoz

Hasnt finished yet

mayhem 1981

Theres most of the swansea squad who BR has worked with, funny how their new manager can get gems like michu, and hanandez from valencia, just because it ML, its a pitty we never got him has our manager, because players will come for him

Cozinoz, i m going on brendan s comments that we might and i say might get one more in.... so it looks unlikely we will be getting anyone other than a proven championship kid in ince

tom1975

Cozinoz

take suarez out of the team are you happy with whats left ..do you think they would even make top half and thats with the addition of sturridge...

i m only going on what brendan is saying,, ie that we might get one more in, but unlikely....

we are still short, one injury to suarez undoes a lot of good work and we will slide back down the table. keep him fit and we are moving up. i d like to see us get past this overdependency on luis and signing sturridge is a step in the right direction. but we needed more than one step in this window i.m.o.

we needed 2 attackers and one attacking midfielder and possibly a left back in this window and i know that due to availablity and financial restraints this wasnt an option. we should be looking at a loan striker signing until summer just to boost the numbers. gameiro if available, even bent would boost the numbers until summer. i know many people will be like not bent and he s not my first choice either but if something should happen to luis bent would be a goal contributor. just like to see us have all our bases covered.

tom1975

fingers crossed there is still something in the post this wndow and brendan is just trying to play down expectations in case moves dont come off

I agree with you Tom, mate, but my point was that you should probably save this kind of post until Feb 1st.
Five days into the window and you're saying 'not the convincing window i was hoping for at all'.
Let's just see what happens over the next 3 weeks...

all the moaners out now about holtby to spurs lol same thing last window about siggurdson and dempsey, where are they now, remains to be seen about holtby too!

Gylfi has settled down and is now doing ok! the same with dempsey! think he now understands that he is a squad player!

Holtby is better than either of them, watch is now sign siggi on the cheap in summer

04 Jan 2013 18:13:27
In all honesty I'm ok if sturridge is our only signing this window.

At the minute we can't attract nor afford the top players in the world. We are buying players at the level below that.
So why panic and fill your squad with players of this quality.

Having a thin squad has finally given sterling, Suso and wisdom a chance off first team football, and they have all broken through.

I thought if we got a striker in, and got rid of Cole we would have done well.

Then come the summer lose downing and bring in 2 or 3 top players.

LAVERS

Who said we will have money in the summer plus holtby is 22 and a class player were as the other 2 are just good players, im moaning now so next season when he is playing great i will say i told you so, if we cant get a player for free what chance do we have of getting and experienced one with quality, id say about the same as holtby

04 Jan 2013 18:03:25
Why are people so convinced that Kevin gameiro will join liverpool on loan? Where has this come from cause he has stated the other day that he wants to stay at psg?? Or at least where have these rumours come from? Cheers eds great site and happy new year to the eds and all the reds!

Borini said he wanted to stay in rome to players dont get what they want most of the time! liverpool are secrective we will no nothing untill its done

04 Jan 2013 18:01:48
I think lescott should be an option. He's got good experience, and also a danger at set pieces, maybe on loan perhaps?

I agree, but with being a former Everton player i doubt it.

04 Jan 2013 17:59:13
Dear Eds

I am having a bit of trouble over establishig exactly why Sahin wants to/needs to move back to Madrid.

Is this our decision or his and what is the reason behind it? and I know his preformances have been poor but are we trying to offload him back or is it the player forcing our hand?

Thanks for any help clearing this up

LiverBob {Ed052's Note - nothing has actualky happened regarding hus loan mate, so there is no answer to something that hasn't and might not happen}

Just to get away from transfers, I'd like to hear everyone's opinions on who the top 5 managers in the world atm are?

04 Jan 2013 20:34:32
Sir Alex ferusson

Jose Mourinho

Pep Guardiola

Carlos Anceloti

Arsene Wenger/Jurgen klopp

Steve Clarke

Klopp

Emery
And, hate to say it, but Ferguson.

The post above trying to be funny but if we had half the decisions go for us that utd and fergie has BR would of had a statue outside anfield.

04 Jan 2013 17:44:48
LFC did not go for Holtby, because he is young and has got talent and who is on a free transfer.

We would much prefer to spend our valuable money paying Joe Cole £50.000 a week for the next 18 months and paying a fortune to get Sahin on loan who has been about as much use as Cole himself.

alan50

Alan

Are you sure your a Liverpool fan
your posts are always negative if you wanna see Holtby so much go support Spuds

04 Jan 2013 20:12:41
I'd prefer to pay him 50, 000 a week for 18 months and be rid than 100, 000 a week for 18 months whilst contributing nothing.

Is it £3.9 million lost or £3.9 million saved?

Alan
You really need to try and cheer yourself up a tad!!

04 Jan 2013 17:48:57
So Lewis Holtby signed for Tottenham, we missed a trick there. I'm sure He'll have no trouble getting into the team. It's not like he has to compete with gareth bale or anything... {Ed052's Note - we cannot sign everybody}

He preferred a move to London anyway!

He does support Everton...

Strange buy...

They already have Siggurdson and Dempsey in their place.

So why they bought him really baffles me? Or may be it would be baffling both of them.

LiverBird

No eds but a top youn number 10 available ona free is our top summer target could have been secured now for free

tom1975

They need a solution to selling both Van Der Vaart & Modric.

Holtby, Dempsey, Bale, Sigursson and Dembele are all attacking midfielders. Bale has played attacking midfield for the last couple of games and done really well. I think Sigurdsson and Dempsey might be sold in the Summer to accommodate.

04 Jan 2013 17:48:21
With Enriques hamstring tear ruling him out for six weeks(radio city liverpool) surely if Brendan ain't overly enamoured with Wisdom at this stage of career and switching Johnno.And not using Flanno/Robinson, at least this blow come at a time we can sign someone.Do Ed's/fellow posters think we will? {Ed052's Note - we wont sign someone for just 6 weeks. Its a waste of money and we already have suitable people to fill in}

I agree with you Ed but with Kelly out, Wisdoms inexperience, the apparent refusal to play Flanno or Robbo, rumours of Downing going(and makeshift anyhow)thought he may dip in for cheapish experienced leftback {Ed052's Note - its not a refusal to play Robbo/Flanno there just hasn't been a need}

Agree with Ed, while Wisdom's playing well no need to play them 2.
Also feel that although Johnson might not get forward quite as much on the left, he still gets up quite a lot and I actually think he's a lot more solid defensivley there!

Robinson I think is the better prospect of the himself and Flanno by a long shot and should be given an opportunity at some point in the near future however. Think he could be the full-back we need to challenge Enrique once he gets a little older!

CHickey.

04 Jan 2013 17:44:20
Seeing reports today that Harry (Del Boy) Redknapp was offered Wesley Sneijder this window. Can any of the Eds confirm if this is true?

Jonesred {Ed052's Note - he may have been mentioned to him but it means nothing}

Harry said himself in the interview agents offered Sneijder but he knew it was going to happen anyway. Didn't make anything of it.

04 Jan 2013 17:33:18
Graham Dorrans has been told he can leave West Brom this transfer window, could he be a possible signing eds? He's young, fairly decent and if we're shifting Sahin off the wage bill we could be considering bringing in a replacement. {Ed052's Note - no chance. He's not good enough for WBA so not good enough for us}

04 Jan 2013 17:28:57
hi ed, would liverpool look at diame of west ham again, according to rumours he's got £3.5 million release clause. {Ed052's Note - doubt it. Think they wont}

BBC confirm holtby to spurs in the summer

Sick've b. dy Spurs, every time!

Who cares??he wont be the first or the last player we miss out on..i rather our own scouts do their job and identify suitable targets not always going after players who would most likely turn us down when better clubs come calling

04 Jan 2013 17:21:06
First Post.
Love the site.

If it was up to me, I'd suggest signing the following:

Ashley Willams(Swansea). I don't know how much he costs, I would suspect 7-9 million, he would take Skrtels place, who has been for me one of the reasons we have dropped so many points, he makes mistakes too much to deserve a first team place without competition. Priority Signing.

Tom Ince(Blackpool). Maybe 3-6 million and thats pushing it, seems to believe in himself which is a good thing, wanted to stay here but felt good enough to play and obvious he has pushed the issue very well, deserves his chance.

Moussa Sissoko(Toulouse). 3-6 million or a pre contract, stock has died down a bit due, with Spurs signing Holbty, and us needing another midfielder, would be a good signing.

Coates should leave on loan, told that next season he is expected to push for first team, QPR would be a good move, would get alot of practice.

Sahin back to Madrid.

Keep Downing and Henderson until the end of season, see how the cope with some competition.

Your views?

EGGSBACON

I'm told sissoko could also be signing a pre contract agreement with spurs?

Don't you remember what Williams said about Suarez? forget about him
Ince isn't that quality, Mertens is way better or we could try and take the risk and get Villa, I'd be pleased myself
I totally agree about sissoko and coates and i think de vrij is a better and cheaper option than williams
El Capitano

04 Jan 2013 18:46:30
Sorry, but honestly I read Ashley Williams and stopped. The only point for him in my books that he has over Skrtel is that Williams 'attempted' to kill a United player ;)

Jolly Red

There is absolutely no way Williams is better than Skrtel, who has been ever reliable for the best part of 2-3 seasons now.

Ince I agree with, sign him up.

Sissoko is overrated.

Don't think you have a very good grasp of defenders and defending. There's not much wrong with our defence or defenders right now. If the attack keep scoring we'll be fine. It was lack of goals that was hurting us.
ND

Some one is going to qpr as br said in the tv interview he had bin talkin to harry ther can be only one harry

Im sure Suarez would love to see Ashley Willams coming to anfield.
rb

Williams : Yes. Would be a good buy.
Ince : Yes. Looks very likely.
Sissoko : No. Technically not that good. M'Vila would be better but something wrong with him between the ears allegedly.
Coates : I dont know why is he not being played. May be bcoz he lacks the pace with the back four higher up the pitch.
Downing : Strange.
Henderson : Must keep.
Sahin : Bad buy or bad management.

04 Jan 2013 17:11:11
OK, so Holtby has joined Spurs. I don't see any relation to Liverpool in this matter, so why is there 20 odd people posting the same bit of news on this page?

Piledriver {Ed002's Note - 21 now.}

04 Jan 2013 17:44:18
Because we were rumoured to be interested and even if we weren't, every time Spurs sign a player this season, it's clearly one we could've had easily if we'd just tried a little harder. Or not been looking for some mediocre English player to drop £70m on instead. Because the club is run by chimps who like to purposely waste money for the jolly.

Then the reaction to that theory is for people to point out that Dempsey and Sigurdsson haven't done well at Spurs and we should be happy we missed out on Holtby cos Spurs' scouting is rubbish.

So that's why there are 20 (now 21) posts about Spurs signing Holtby. Simple.

- Something Red -

Ha, I always forget to exempt myself from it but oh well.

Piledriver

Maybe commoli has got his job back at spurs after shaftin us

I like your posts - Something Red - .. truly sums up this site.

Roy

In all fairness it is a bit early to judge dempes and sigurdson but they are certainly not setting the spurs team alight at the minute.
derryred

We are directly linked with the same players as Spurs because we are in a similar position but Spurs get them because they are in a stronger position that is why.

Kopping a feel

Ask most spurs fans and they will tell you gylfi is doing well

04 Jan 2013 17:05:27
Any player who would rather join a club like Spurs over a club like us isn't worth the discussion IMO; anybody who thinks they would have more success with Spurs than us clearly aren't ambitious enough to even play for us in the first place, that is ofcourse if we were even ever after signing Holtby.

What a club sitting in 3rd place, run very well and have alot of up and coming talent and holtby to add to this, your a very jealous person

I know it's crazy isn't it! I mean you only have to look at the league table for evidence of that ... oh wait.
sparky

The fact is spurs and in a much better position and right now have a better team. So man up and admit it.....

How many Spurs players would you swap for ours?

Bale is the obvious one, and as squad members - Dembele, Defoe, Adebayor

I will admit we need to strengthen in depth.

The basic Spurs team has been together longer than ours.

As if Holtby was ever going to sign for Liverpool. He's an Evertonion for gods sake, and before you all say so was Rush, Fowler, Owen and so on all those started their careers at Liverpool and never had to make a choice to go anywhere else. Big Difference.

Spurs are still small time

Did Liverpool offer him a deal? If not, he didn't choose Spurs over us.

04 Jan 2013 18:25:28
Mate are you for real Liverpool are no more big club. Liverpool have fantastic history but have been finishing midtable for 4-5years at the sametime the pace which your rebuilding will take another 3-5 years to challenge top4 forget premier league unless your current owners start spending on quality players rather then average or pontential. No quality player is going to give his 4-5 years and except mediocrity unless he is Gerrad. I know a lot of Liverpool fans won't agree but that's reality only liverpool fans think different. Just look at some sites you will be surprised what other club fans think about you. Fans in the country call liverpool joke no fan in the country respects liverpool anymore neither Liverpool have the same pedigre

Place on the bench for him next to Dempsey. If he's lucky.
Siggurson chose for that reason. And look where that's got him. They've more midfielders than enough.

04 Jan 2013 20:30:15
Mate reality is liverpool are not ambition anymore any player joining us means he has pontential and wants chance to show what he can do or maybe better clubs are not behind his signature.as Macca said It won't take time before we lose Suarez.

Spurs will always be a stepping stone for players with ambition due to the fact they challenge for European football, so players get noticed both in Europe and in the Prem. Berbatov, Carrick & Campbell all left to win the Prem. Modric left to play for possibly the biggest team on the planet. Bale will leave when he wants to collect medals. Fair play to them though they are doing exceptionally well, for a lesser London club.

04 Jan 2013 17:02:04
Do u think we need another striker? All top teams have about 4 strikers, just look at City and Utd! Not saying we should have 4 cause its hard to keep them all happy, but i, m thinking if Sturridge got injured then we, d be back to square 1 again with Suarez bein the only striker. Think we need 1 more in case and for a plan B if things ain, t working out.

How about Borini? He has a great future

Drigan

Stop thinking in terms of 'striker' and think in terms of 'forward'.

A plan B is not rotating forwards! its about formations! we could have no strikers and still have a plan B.

JOZLFC

04 Jan 2013 17:02:02
Guttered to see Spurs sign Holtby. Think he'll he a real talent next season.

FowlerGod.

We can't sign everyone for pity's sake.

Its down to BR because he wont fit in his 4-3-3 system, if suarez gets injured we will be fighting relegation, BR only wants players he has worked with before because he cant train any other player, so expect more swansea marquee signings, ive even heard some fans on here saying we should sign a swansea defender, why sign a swansea player we have coates and other teams have better defenders, this january window will show us what BR and the owners are about, up to now they are failing, i bet the owners will come out and say there will be money in the summer and tom werner will come out with his famous saying "WE HAVE THE MONEY TO CHALLANGE WITH THE TOP CLUBS FOR THE RIGHT PLAYER ", he missed the boat on holtby

04 Jan 2013 16:50:59
we need a defender who would be the best option at the minute ?

dannybhoy

04 Jan 2013 17:39:40
Coates

Sammi hyppia

Coates, its a pity brenda does not see it, he only has to look at the last copa america to see how good coates is, it was his debut aswell, and he won the young player of the tournament beating neymar, and he helped his team win the copa america, now i really wonder if BR is the right man if he does not know all this and wants to get rid of a goal scoring defender with over head kicks in his locker, i cant understand why he has not had a run in the team

04 Jan 2013 16:49:35
Why why why? Did we npt go for free transfer lewis holtby? No fee. Stunning talent. I like benat though

Have you thought he wanted to go to London and not Merseyside. Allegedly we did put an offer to him - he's an individual who made a decision - end of.

04 Jan 2013 19:53:11
Mate we can't compete with spurs at the moment they are more attractive then us at the sametime they can easily compete with wages against us.

04 Jan 2013 16:47:29
Holtby signing for spurs subject to medical.
That's that one done,
SoLean

04 Jan 2013 16:40:26
I see Spurs have signed Holtby, I struggle to see how they are getting all these midfielders!

Maybe we should test the water with a cheeky bid for Jake Livermore, very lively talent or Scott Parker for that little bit of experience in the middle of the Park..

I'd just like to say this.... So what if spurs have signed holtby.... Who cares? This is a Liverpool banter page not the spurs transfer agreement page

Well played to them dont like them but seem to be running the club from top to bottom very well for past 3 to 4 years now hopefully this will be the case with us remember we are a club with no experience running a big club with big expectations hopefully they will all learn fast and the good times are back

mayhem 1981

You may find a very large que of spurs fans wanting to drive jake upto liverpool! as for parker he wont budge hes at his club! although with sissoko due to also sign a pre contract agreement parker may well be available during the summer!

Parker to qpr nailed on

04 Jan 2013 16:37:16
Can people please get it into their thick skulls that we will not be playing with 2 wide men and a striker. BR wants 3 forwards in the front 3 who can be very fluid.
This means Suarez will not have to be pushed wide to accommodate Sturridge.
This means Walcott would also fit in the system ( although I think it unlikely)
This means we would not have been better off with Ba as a target man
This also means Carroll will not be returning
If you still can't get it I can always draw pictures for the hard of thinking

Chris in Tamworth

Spot on chris but still think a few drawings are on the way

mayhem 1981

Gameiro the final piece?

Can you please draw a picture, and put it on the sightings page please?

Piledriver

Suarez will be pushed out wide and Sturridge will play through the center. BR has already said this.

Would love to see Gameiro, I've also been a fan of Remy

Chris in Tamworth

Been saying the same for months Chris but people don't understand because they are still stuck in 4-4-2 mode in their heads. Rodgers plays a brand of 4-3-3 that revolves on interchangability. Three forwards will be on the pitch at anyone time, they will all be ball players and they will rotate positions with each other during the game. No out and out central striker so taking Suarez as an example, during the time he is on the pitch expect him to be sometimes in the centre, sometimes on the right, sometimes on the left, That way it stretches the defenders and creates uncertainty in their minds. RED LENIN

Ba and Walcott ?
You need to catch up on the news !

Unnamed poster, BR has not said Suraez will be pushed out wide.
Please go and read the quotes

Chris in Tamworth

Wow..chris roders already said suarez would take a modified role?what does that tell you

So chris, do you think suarez and gameiro will be the outright wingers then and sturridge'll play up top on his own?

do you think carroll'll return?

;)

04 Jan 2013 18:33:52
Sry chris Remy is going to newcasle

Chris, BR did imply 'Daniel's best position is as a central striker' and 'Daniel's best position will be straight through the middle with his pace.' and 'Luis When he played at Ajax, he played in behind as a No 10, in between the lines, and he also played as a reverse winger from the left side. That meant he wasn't quite out wide, but tucked in round the corner.'

But I am with you on the 3 interchangeable forwards ... and Suarez all through have played from left/right in when the space was available, most strikers do these days including Torres who is meant to be an out and out number 9 (ie plays at the top ).

Roy

Remy is a target man!

04 Jan 2013 16:29:07
Cannot believe Spurs have signed Lewis Holtby on a pre contract agreement,
Ok so Rodgers might not have fancied him we dont know, but seriously what is wrong with our scouting network and background staff?........
And why are Spurs looking at world class players before we are every season?..........
Dont anyone dare say garbage like 'were on a pay structure now' or 'we cant afford the wages'..nonsense we're Liverpool not Tottenham no disrespect to em like we should still even without Champions league football be at least looking at the worlds best players....
Rant over...played awesome the other night lets have some more from now on!
YNWA
Faircloughs Twin {Ed002's Note - Why not just add Holtby to the list of players that in some bizarre fantasy world you see Liverpool as missing out on.}

Tottenham are a better team than liverpool now, a club doesn't run on history

Well said ed.... I'm sick of people complaining about players that we miss out on, n thats if we were even interested in him in the 1st place, plus to say that he is world class is absolute rubbish, some people on here hear a name being thrown about and automatically think he's world class at 22 years of age, I bet you haven't even seen him play! We have plenty of midfielders as it is, we don't need anymore

M sissoko is next in line for them on a pre contract agreemnt!

04 Jan 2013 17:30:51
You can only miss out on players you actually go for.

Do we really need another midfielder?

Wait until Bale leaves or R.Madrid or Barcelona...

Are aim is top 4 and our targets are tom ince and sturridge (signed) someone has looked at them and said they are the ones to do it for us.

I'd bet a tenner that the OP has never actually seen Holtby play.

04 Jan 2013 16:25:34
Were is hotlby going to play in this spurs team hes a person for joining them unless bale is leaving in summer
We could of done with a playmaker like him but guess he didnt wana play for us

The january window is all about mind games i wonder if liverpool have any surprises lined up doubt it but fan can still hope lol

Is Luis Suarez's brother any good at footy? I'm interested to know what position he plays and style of play. Is he good enough to play for us? {Ed002's Note - He will not be moving to Liverpool.}

04 Jan 2013 19:08:14
32. Uncapped. Plays his football in El Salvador. I think it's fair to say that regardless of his position and style of play, it's unlikely that he's good enough for Liverpool.

As fans we all love seeing the yellow ticker on a website saying we have signed so and so. The reality for the club at the moment is that we are paying for past mistakes. We have paid hefty salaries to players that have added nothing to the squad. We are now living within our means. The positive is that we have an environment that allows our younger players to develop and grow.

We have recently seen vast improvement in performances from Enrique, Downing and Henderson. The reaction from the Kop on Wednesday towards Henderson was terrific and will only help his confidence. When Borini is back it is important we all support our players and give them the confidence to have a go.

Mving forward It would be great if Sturridge could get off the mark against Mansfield. I would like to see Coates get more playing time as I do think we need another strong CB whether that's him only time will tell. As with Cole if Sahin is not going to play we move him on. another forward type player signing would be great.

Finally a message too FSG. If they don't have the resources to move the club forward both on and off the field please look at the opportunity of selling the club. We do not want to fall further behind the top our

a waste of money
a lack of common sense as we got rid of him,
pathetic negotiation
ian ayre is costing us money cos of his decisions
the club doesnt know how to seek bargains
we keep buying average OVERPRICED british players

I know this this not really a transfer rumour but if Holtby moved to club in England do you think he would want to play for England? Isnt his dad english and was Holtby born in England? Limited chances in Germany squad. {Ed002's Note - He has already being playing for Germany.}

04 Jan 2013 15:55:51
I watched Sammin Hyypia goals on LFC channel this morning and what a player he was. I believe he is one of the best headers of a ball in premiership history. He could also bang em in with his left peg too. Any one remeber that goal against Juventus the left foot volley?

I hope we go out and find the next young Sammi Hyypia in this transfer window and then we would have no problems against big physical teams like Stoke and we would be so dangerous at set pieces and corners.

Steve068

We've already got that player and his name is Coates. We've also got Kelly and Wisdom who can both be top quality CBs

04 Jan 2013 15:53:54
Liverpool r lookin for wide players like Thomas Ince and Grosskreutz. Reports suggest that Sturridge wanting to play a more central role wil push Suarez wide, which IMO is a bad idea. So walcott is nvr a realistic target cos he wanna play the CF position too. And it is likely he'll sign a new contract r move elsewhere. Also Liverpool r tryin to sign a central midfielder and may be someone on loan.

04 Jan 2013 15:52:22
In my opinion I think lescott would be a sensible move. Very good defender, versatile, can play anywhere along the back four, just what we need and he is an aerial threat. Any chance eds?
Also any latest on jeffren?

Great job

Kyle

04 Jan 2013 17:40:27
Sensible? He's rubbish. An absolute disaster zone. Probably why Mancini doesn't trust him.

04 Jan 2013 15:49:48
Some people need to calm down, Rodgers didn't say that there's no money - he said we're "not going to have a lot of money to do anything in the window" - that was always on the cards because we aren't going to spend lavish sums of money again in January, as most clubs don't because there's less quality available in the winter window, and our bigger changes to the squad will be done in the summer - something which he has reiterated. Plus if he says "we've got loads of money to spend" clubs will demand more money from us.
Also he never said or business is done, in fact he said that there "might be one other transfer" which is probably Ince, and we are, as he said in December, looking at some loans. So calm down there's still over three weeks left.

04 Jan 2013 15:48:48
Hi eds we should make a move for Danny graham I think he would be a great addition to the squad {Ed019's Note - Never}

04 Jan 2013 15:44:05
Why does BR want to move an in form and scoring suarez from the centre to accommodate sturridge? Hopefully by this BR means playing suarez still in the middle but deeper rather than on the wing. Personally however at the start of the season I was in favour of playing suarez on the left instead of borini but when suarez is doing so well atm why change?
Thanks

04 Jan 2013 16:27:49
ALL the front THREE are strikers.

04 Jan 2013 15:28:40
Not a Pool rumour as such, but personally, I think Ba will not fit into Chelsea system. I can see it affecting Torres confidence too (ie. being subbed for Ba) as Torres doesn't work well with another striker. I for one am glad we got Sturridge instead of Ba, looking longterm.

04 Jan 2013 15:27:40
A bit sad that there not putting more funds forward for transfers... We have a good team but if u look at tottenham arsenal Chelsea there have such strength in depth unless we strengthen more top 4 won't be possible.... An if we don't get it Suarez may leave its a sad situation!

YNWA

04 Jan 2013 15:47:12
Its the 4th of jan. The windows been open 4 days and we've signed an england international. There's plenty of time in this window yet.
Get a grip.

04 Jan 2013 15:55:55
It's the 4th of January. For all you know the owners may put plenty forwards for transfers. Give it time. Plus, it's better to buy in the summer anyway!

04 Jan 2013 15:25:15
Reports today that Brendan's quoted Suarez's role may change to accommodate Sturridge.(Now normally you'll rest players, inc maybe Suarez for Cup game) With Utd game coming up, would it not be an idea to try any new set up in the Cup game?

04 Jan 2013 16:00:08
Or they could try it in training...

Replying poster, not many sessions of training before Utd, and you cannot replicate real games although traing sessions are next best bet

04 Jan 2013 15:21:33
Eds, fellow reds . If BRs statement about dont expect much more transfer activatiy maybe 1 more .why send Morgan out on loan because sturridge can't play in Europa and if we have a couple of injuries we will be in the mire again . {Ed002's Note - Borini will soon be back. Yesil, Assaidi - there are options.}

Morgan is only on loan for one month - no big deal and may help the kid.

Exactly Ed002, Morgan is on a two month loan, and soon it is possible we will have Ince so that will give us the following as an attacking line up for Europa Games.

Suarez
Ince
Borini
Sterling
Downing
Shelvey
Assaidi
Yesil

04 Jan 2013 15:11:47
Hi eds and reds . The reason Liverpool have signed Sturridge is so the front 3 whoever they are that start is so they can all interchange . We no longer have a centre forward eg Carroll anymore it's all about a front 3 interchanging all the time . It will make it very difficult for defenders as they will be pulled out of position as they follow who they are supposed to be marking . This should make space for others to run into hopefully resulting in more goals From midfield too . So Suarez will just be moving all over the front positions so will Sturridge and probably sterling . cheers
YNWA
Jamesy

04 Jan 2013 15:32:44
True. I think a front 3 of say Suarez Gameiro and Sturridge interchanging would certainly be a handfull for defenders with the likes of Sterling, Borini, Suso, Downing, Yesil and maybe Ince as back-up should be enough 'till the end of the season.

Carroll was hardly a centre forward, more like a lumbering misfit

04 Jan 2013 14:52:41
If Newcastle get Loic Remy for less than we paid for Sturridge that will be madness. I do rate Sturridge and hope he'll be a success but Remy is a very tidy player. Both of them would be nice...ah we all have our transfer dreams
Sam

A very tidy player in a very poor league.

Have you watched him much over the past year? He's been terrible especially this year, Sturridge hasn't been great but he has somewhat proven he can cut it in the Premiership whereas Remy is struggling in the French league

That is a good point but with his physical nature and excellent finishing I think he'd cut it i'n the bpl.
Sam

Sturridge will be a succes he just needs a run of games to get some game time under his belt then he will score for fun

Just like marveaux is a tidy player lol.

I remember people going mad when we didn't get him.

Have faith in fsg and Rodgers.

LAVERS

04 Jan 2013 15:44:15
Remy actually aint that good. I'd rather have Gameiro.

04 Jan 2013 14:51:47
What a joke fsg are cut the squad to the bare bones now br says there is no more money as usally one in one out . We will never compete for a champs league place with these owners they dont want to spend on transfer fees or spend on wages . All we will here in the summer is that we have to sell to buy & that means ls to go i think it is a bleak future ahead with these owners

Mathematically it's one in one out but in the bigger picture we've replaced an average squad player with a forward/england international who will probably start most games. bit unfair to be critical because none of us can argue that it hasn't made the squad and the 1st team much more competitive. players like sterling, downing, borini, shelvey, suso and the upcoming young strikers will have to push on even harder now if they want to play and succeeed at lfc.

s.p

We will never compere for champs league places bringing players like sturridge here i will tell you now he is just an average player sorry to say, ROBLFC.

Your an person. These owners have been like the 3rd 4th highest spenders last season. If you've read this site ed02 has said countless of times.

Mate FSG have always been supportive of our managers. So before writing garbage at least think about or maybe you are still involved in pantomime season.

Mighty reds

04 Jan 2013 15:52:32
Sp mate Sturridge is average player at best you guys are going to find very soon when he starts playing. When he went to bolton everything was going through him in other words Bolton had to bend for him. I can't see that happening at liverpool or suarez and company bending for him. Anyways all the best for season and sturridge

Blue forever

04 Jan 2013 15:59:26
Just because Rodgers says that, it doesn't mean we won't spend more. Give it time. Plus, the owners are doing great aside from the last window. They've started putting that right straight away. Did we have to wait long for Sturridge?

04 Jan 2013 14:49:40
Dimitri Payet?

There were rumours circulating at the start of the season - could he be a possibility for January window?

04 Jan 2013 14:49:08
Rodgers also said on the last day of the summer transfer window that he expected a couple of new faces arriving.
Look what happened there....

I wouldn't worry about what Rodgers says lol.

LAVERS

You are right Lavers, but they did try and get players in on the last few days of the summer transfer window but the deals couldnt be done for whatever reasons so what Rodgers said was kinda correct.

I believe him when he says there wont be much more happening, but i guess if the right player is available at the right price etc.. then they will do a deal. I think the owners will see what happens in the second half of the season and then re-look at players in the summer when there are more quality players available.

04 Jan 2013 14:40:26
Is Sturridge allowed to play in both FACUP and Europa Lge? {Ed002's Note - Yes and no.}

04 Jan 2013 14:30:14
Am really against suarez giving way for sturridge, that only means suarez might have to take on some defensive responsibility which would affect his effectiveness in most matches. Why not do that do sturridge?suarez is in the form of his life why change it. they can both interchange during games, but suarez primary position should be the center forward role
Rodgers makes it sound like he rates sturridge better as a striker than suarez..And most people never get their facts right sturridge best two seasons were on the right at chelsea and when he played behind kevin davies..he never played as a center forward at chelsea and bolton

PACMAN

You really are clueless arent you. As said a million times here by the Eds and commonsense would dictate. The front three interchange, there is no centre

04 Jan 2013 14:50:38
Don't worry, we have a tremendous amount of versatility in our attacking players, no doubt BR will try Sturridge in the central role, but I doubt he will keep him there if it works out better with Suarez

I think people here are clueless or they have given up or don't try to understand.very pitty.
holy_red.

04 Jan 2013 15:08:54
I sit to the right of the goal on the Kop - If I had a pound every time Suarez cut in from the outside, got to the by-line, beat 2 men and looked up to find no one in the box - I could retire.

Whilst I agree Suarez is in the from of his life, we also need more attacking options. We have all been moaning at the lack of conversion rate in front of goal, whether Sturridge will give us this extra edge and stick the ball in the back of the net, only time will tell

I like the 4-3-3 formation and as you say, I can see the front three interchanging throghout the game with Suarez still scoring goals...

You are the clueless one holy red and the first poster..where has most of suarez goals come from?stop with the crap talk of interchanging forwards.

PACMAN

04 Jan 2013 18:25:15
Suarez will score goals wherever he plays PACMAN .
He said its been on the cards for months and Suarez is well aware, i don't see the problem.

We will score more goals with Sturridge as one of the front three than Downing, as much as he's improved.

Chill out, Suarez is class, moving him out wide won't make him ineffective!

Jose out for 6 weeks does this mean where in for another LB or will Jack Robinson be promoted to the First team
Or Flanagan so Johnson can play out left?

Why buy a left back because of 6 weeks of injury? That seems like really irresponsible buying.

BthekingB

Jack Robbo has to get given his chance for me, playing like and beast in Under21s and Next gen games, scoring a few aswell

K-Man

I think the left back slot will be covered by Johnson (with wisdom on the right) and robinson, and maybe even agger now and again as well until Enrique is back and match fit. We are not short of options.

MIKEY

Johnson will play LB with Wisdom at RB

04 Jan 2013 14:25:07
So Rodgers states - there is no more money for January.

Im guessing he is trying to play down our position so we don't get shafted on player values.

But I also think there is some truth in his statement - Ince will be the only other signing, if the deal can be done!

I would guess also that maybe 1 player on loan again if the deal can be done - and then that will be all.

YNWA JFT96 jns

04 Jan 2013 16:02:35
Ins:

Ince (£6 million)
Gameiro (Loan - with option to buy in the summer)
Sturridge (£12 million - done)

Anymore than that, i.e. an attacking midfielder, will be a bonus but we shall see.

Personally I think the additions of Sturridge, Ince and Gameiro will certainly make us a lot stronger in the final 3rd for the second half of the season. There would certainly be more of a consistant goal threat with the options for the front 3 coming from Sturridge, Gameiro, Suarez, Sterling, Borini, Ince, Suso, Yesil, Downing.

CharlieChalk

I would of rathered one good player instead of two average players.

04 Jan 2013 14:24:55
You will pobably say I'm reading too much into things, but I find it interesting that Sturridge wasn't given the number nine shirt. This could mean a few things: perhaps we are still looking to sign a new striker as well, like PSG's number nine Gameiro, or Sevilla's number nine Negredo, who incidently had a bid turned down for him recently. Or maybe Andy Carroll is set to be recalled, Big Sam himself has said that the loan isn't working out. Either that or Sturridge just really fancied the number 15 for some reason.

Irishdom15

He wasnt given the num 9 shirt cos carrol still has that number.

04 Jan 2013 14:51:57
Mate if you see at liverpool site it was sturridge who chose number 15

04 Jan 2013 16:06:38
He wore 15 on his loan spell at Bolton so obviously likes the number. Players tend to choose their squad number not told what to wear.
Plus Carroll will have to agree to the number nine shirt been taken over.

04 Jan 2013 14:20:29
Rodgers just stated in his press conference hes got little money and there may be one more deal, obviously Ince so hopefully now the stupid rumours will begin to stop {Ed052's Note - he did say no when asked about Ince}

I missed this interview, what was the questioned asked when he answered no please ed?

cheers {Ed052's Note - any interest in Ince. NO. Any interest in Butland. NO}

He didn't say there was no interest in ince, he was asked if there was any development with Ince in which he said no, then asked if there was interest in Butland to which he said no

He did say possibly one more player could arrive.

i guess tom ince deal or a loan deal !

With all the respect ed 52 Rodgers answered no to the question of any further developments on Ince.
As for Butland he said clearly no.

Eds, BR said there is nothing in the 'pipe line' do you think this means all of january or just this week? Please Reply. {Ed002's Note - I have no idea what he means.}

The only sensible thing to do is wait and see.

Liverpool have been slated more than any other club for percieved poor transfer dealings (side note - Henderson and Downing now very good !).

There is no way BR is going to turn around and say to the press 'actually next wednesday David Villa's going to arrive for £16m' but on the 22nd Jan Reina's off to Arsenal is he.?> The only answer the manager can give must be aimed to deflect a difficult question question. No one can criticise him for this. Liverpool must play down the funds available and do business on the QT to rebuild any sort of commercial edge.

I think we must stop trying to over analyse what is said. The team is doing well and far more important than what player comes in is the players and staff realising they have to mix it up and go full throttle on the field we have many top, top players and the more confidence we give them in our support the better they will play .

Do you have any information regarding about Micheal Ngoo's contract. I believe his contract runs out this summer. Do you think that he can make the first team at some point in the near future? {Ed002's Note - I really don't know what the club plan for Ngoo.}

People who think Quaresma would be a good addition to Liverpool's squad, are you thinking clearly? the premier league would eat him up! his clips on youtube are from years ago when he showed some promise, and has been living on that reputation for years, as Chelsea found out he is awful.

Iv heard alot of rumors going around this morning about Torres, that Chelsea are currently highly considering offloading him in this window or by the summer ahem (i wonder why!) with Ba coming in and Falcao possible before the window shuts or in the summer and another Striker on the shopping list! just wondering eds Not that id ever want him back along with alot of Red fans but if he was avaliable at around 12-15m would u see him ever trying to return to team up with Stevie and try get back to the form he showed here with us or would Atletico be a more likely destination

Atletico as part of a deal for Falcao most likely. He will never return to LFC.

RAH, YNWA

04 Jan 2013 13:48:46
I would be surpised if we sign Ince before the end of this window. There isn't too much sense when you consider the amount of attacking options there are. I think it will be more likely that he will join in the summer. If anything I think we will only be looking to sign defensive players as cover, maybe even Butland or another keeper. Just my views though.
Also, I doubt Theo Walcott will be joining up with us. Lets be honest, his wage demands are going against the whole philosophy of the owners and to do what? fill a position in which we already have enough cover? He will probably just sign a new deal at Arsenal, otherwise i see Juventus and Chelsea as the most likely candidates for his signature.
Holtby does sound promising, but again the wages might be a put off. Who knows though.

Front 3 is fluid n flexible. nobody really stays in the middle all the time.

When Suarez was at Ajax i believe he played out wide and still scored goals for fun. The guy is pure class he will score no matter what!

It will be awesome as he will see much more of the ball. And when he has the ball he will pull defenders off sturridge.... Sturridge will score tons of goals for us because of this.

He likes to drop deep even when he is in the most forward position. The front 3s Job is to move fluidly in and around the attacking areas, which is why big Andy did not fit.

Ha ha, obviously Zaha's agent saw this post!
Good player, I agree.

Was speaking to a Palace season ticket holder yesterday and he says he's the best he's seen at the club and that includes Wrighty and players like Lombardo. His performance at OT against Utd a while back was truly awesome. He's got a lot to learn but he's potentially the best young player in England.

Ed someone mentioned on these bages would we take Ballotelli on loan Can you imagine the opposition supporters they wouldnt know who to jeer loudest perhaps we could get Barton as well, on another note Jan 4th and we havent heard anything from Macca I take that as a sign we are not doing much business this window

04 Jan 2013 13:18:19
Hi Eds, thanks for brilliant site. I know its Jan and transfer frenzy but I'm getting frustrated at the amount of supporters wanting us to splash the cash on new players. What we really need to spend money on is a new/bigger stadium.

If I had a pound for how many times I've read of people wanting us to buy a new left back! Have they never heard of Brad Smith, BR rates him highly, took him to USA tour, our very own Gareth Bale type of left back and almost 19 years old. This is where we should be looking at, young talented players and a new stadium.

Yeah but the problem with that is we dont want to fall into the Arsenal trap and get all these wonderful young talented kids and then when they get to 24 have to sell them cause we can win with only a team of kids! we need good balance, I am all for not spending loads of rubbish just for the sake of it, which we have done over the past couple seasons. But I still think Summer time we need to look at bringing in a little experience!

Arsenal may have sold Van Persie and Fabregas and may sell Walcott and have a young squad but they have been in the CL every season, are above us and are in with a shout for CL this season and have a new stadium with a larger capacity than ours which brings in far more money. If Wenger wanted to splash the cash he could, where as BR can't.

04 Jan 2013 13:16:23

Ive heard david villa is on his way to pick him up in his bmw

04 Jan 2013 13:13:40
We are going to buy ince before the weekend and also kevin gameiro till the transfer window closes

04 Jan 2013 13:01:04
Realistically, how much can we expect to get when/if we sell Andy Carroll?

I think we will be extremely lucky to recover 25-50% of the original £35m transfer fee. Although, something in this region would cover Sturridge I suppose?!

DJ

I think a proposed fee of around £17m was agreed with West Ham if they stay up at the end of this season. On top of this £17m transfer fee I believe a 1 year loan fee of around £1.5m for this season plus this season wages of AC which are reputed to be around £4.5m. So it appears a combined total of £23m will be the approximate figure Liverpool will get back on his eventual sale.

Is that an OPTION to buy Carroll for $17 mill or an OBLIGATION to buy him if they stay up?

If it is an option, we won't see anything near that amount and we are going to have to accept a huge loss on Carroll...any team offering around $10 mill and I would consider us lucky.

If the $17 mill is guaranteed, then, all things considered, we would have done well because his value has already plumetted and it ain't goin' back up anytime soon.

04 Jan 2013 14:45:23
so if the sale goes ahead the big Andy would have cost us only 12 mil, thats sounds a lot better, BR is one very clever man, he really is getting the foward bit by bit, thank god!

I would of spent 12 mil just for that goal that knock everton out of the cup.

Look mate, which bit of br's style of play do you not understand? liverpool will not be playing with an out an out striker!! we will be playing with 3 fast, technical players who can play any where across the front 3. we will not be playing a lone striker like ba or jelavic, if we were playing that system do you not think we would have kept andy carroll? br has wanted sturridge since the summer, in fact we could have got him on loan but br wanted to make sure his mentality was correct so waited. sturridge is exactly what we are looking forward, a fast, versatile and tricky forward who can play left, right or through the middle. we are not after a lone striker! we will noy use a lone striker! we will play with 3 upfront!deal with it and stop moaning!!!!

"it does not make sense"

Really?

Maybe have a think and then you will see.

Because Demba ba agent fees is ridiciolous High, i have read somewhere that the combined fee is 13m £

EmilDenmark

Remenber we paid £11m for Heskey in the spring of 2000, we paid £10m for El Hadji Douff in the summer of 2002, we paid £14m for Cisse in the summer of 2004. So £12m for Sturridge in 2012 is not too bad for an England international.

What are you talking about?
Demba Ba who is 4 years older with a degenerative knee problem and who gets moody if he doesn't get what he wants or Jelavic who, I guarantee, won't ever have another season as successful as his first.

Search engines use automated software programs known as spiders or bots to survey the Web (postings on this site) and build their databases. Web documents are retrieved by these programs and analysed. Data collected from each web page/posts are then added to the search engine index. When you enter a query at a search engine site (using the Search box above), your input is checked against the search engine's index of all the web pages/posts it has analysed. The best urls (posts) are then returned to you as hits, ranked in order with the best results at the top (for this site it ranks in chronological order)

Keyword Searching

This is the most common form of text search on the Web. Most search engines do their text query and retrieval using keywords.
What is a keyword, exactly? It can simply be any word on a webpage/post. The search engine indexes every word on every page and if you need to look for a previous discussion/reply from the Eds, type in the name of the player in the "Search" box above, click "Submit" and all previous postings will be listed. Liverpool offloading Joe Coles 90k a week wages will fund Sturridges wages and Tom Inces wages should he sign in this window. No other signings are expected. Just a case of one player out and two players in for the same cost per week.

Hey Eds, just wondering with all the talk over Butland lately what is situatuion in goal is. Pepe seems to be playing better now, not sure if it was just a dip in form or hes been playing for his contract like Hendo and Downing. But if he were to go (unlikely I think) would it be a straight replacement with Butland or another or some years in waiting like Citeh and Hart and Given? Or would the likes of Gulacsi, Ward, Belford, Stephens and co. seem more bench time/cup games?

And will B. Jones leave in the summer, and whats happened to Doni?

Finally, with the German goalkeeper references to Fahrman and ter-Stegen. Wouldn't looking at Leno (under Sami at Leverkusen) or Trapp at Frankfurt be more likely options?

Keep up the good work Eds - AA-LFC {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any immediate intent to replace Pepe - don't expect to see Doni playing for Liverpool again.}

Brad Jones signed a contract extension so he's the number 2 for 2 more yrs which allows us to buy Reinas long term replacement and loan him out for a season or two. Butland is a target despite what BR said today. He can't exactly say yes to the question because we don't have the money for the deal right now. Someone else could therefore do the deal as Brum are in desperate need of cash.

I saw a post further down the page asking if we'd rather finish 4th and United win the league or finish 5th and City win it.
I have to ask, am I the only one who prefers United to City? I might hate United but I respect them. Of course they have spent money but the majority of their success has come from the academy in the likes of Beckham, Giggs and Scholes. As much as I dislike them because of the rivalry I'd rather them win than City or Chelsea. They deserve their success due to prudent planning and excellent management, something we are trying to emulate. City are succeeding because they've thrown money at it. It probably sounds odd and makes me sound like a traitor but I'd rather United surpass all our records than City even get close to them.
John YNWA

04 Jan 2013 13:37:32
I kinda have to agree with you john, as much as i hate them i hate the money issue in the game and city are just a plastic club who can now only pack a stadium cos of their billions they have spent, atleast united do everything the right way and are a proud club with history and tradition like ourselves. We and united are more alike in many ways than we would like to admit. aslong as they dont catch our europe record though haha

There is no point sacrificing our ambitions so that United get done over - I want us in the CL and I don't care who wins the league - I'd prefer united didn't win it but if they did so what? As long as we made it into the CL i'd be happy.

SMc

City or chelsea wont surpass our records it will take them at least 15 years. I cant respect United or fergie, they will win but I don't want them to win so that their glory hunter fans across the world would have one more reason to laugh at us. I want us to be on the perch of english / world football and the only way I see that is by being the best or hoping others are not as good you are. 5th place and even norwich or swansea winning title for me is great

To me Adorjan looks like he could be a really good player for the future. It would be sad to see him go.
I also was really surprised to see reports today that Pacheco, Flanagan and Robinson could also leave. Surely only on loan like Morgan.

Eds
As you've said, the financial points of Joe Cole's move to West Ham do not make pretty reading for Liverpool fans.
But I can exclusively reveal that one of the conditions of his move was a late winner on his Hammer's debut against the Mancs in the cup.
So it's not all money down the pan.

Not really Liverpool related but was at the Britania on boxing day and noticed that every 15m around the edge of the pitch was a speaker. Do you think that attached to these speakers are mikes in the stands that amplify the sound generated by their fans?
If so is this legal, and if it is maybe we need some at Anfield!

Jack the Groove

If we had them at Anfield it would amplify the silence!

Haha, or amplify the moans about Stewart Downing on the wing.
Personally I'd like to see Liverpool adopt a more 'stick' approach to this subject. Sensors on the seats so that if your voice doesn't go above 70 decibels at least once every five minutes, an electrical shock is applied.
That way we could see all the librarians with sticky up hair and singed eyebrows. Haha.

Hi Eds,

I was told today by a (i think) news reporter at Anfield that a player called Inan of Galatasary is someone BR wants to replace Sahin. Whether its in January or the summer i really dont know. But it is a coincidence that there are rumours also surrounding Sahin leaving early.

Shed any light Eds?

Richard {Ed052's Note - Ed002 has been mentioning Inan for a while now, as has suggested it would be a smart move. It is likely in the summer, not January that he will move}

Suarez, Sturridge, Borini, Sterling, Downing, Assaidi.

Now we have a little more depth across the front 3.

Agree for the first 3 listed as your first choice or disagree if you would include any of the others in the starting line up.

Will be interesting to see your thoughts.

Sturridge and Suarez are givens...Sterling should play with them whenever possible as the understanding between those three could be special given their attributes of pace, technique and flair added to the aggression of Suarez could equate to the most deadliest front line in the league. Hazard, Mata and Torres are no where near aggressive enough in my opinion.

Its gonna be a good 2nd half of the season if we get the players we are linked with:

Sturridge - Done - play across the front 3

Gameiro - Loan to buy - play across the front 3

Ince - £4m - play across the front 3

Butland - £6m - one for the future without a doubt

That gives us 9 options in 3 positions with

Sterling Suarez Downing

Assaidi Sturridge Ince

Gameiro Borini Suso

BigD

Actually 9 players in a combination of 3 means there are a possible 84 ways we can play the front 3. [FR]

I would be happy and want..germio to come to us..
dont rate ince much...wil not be botherd if he doesnt end up here...
sturridge germio suarez
vs
hernandez, rvp..

Hi Eds, just would like to know you who you think we should sign/loan this window? {Ed052's Note - I had always wanted TW to come in, but its not going to happen. Currently I cannot see any suitable options for us in this window. There ars no avaliable players really that could come in and improve our squad. I wouldn't want Ince tbh, but if he does come in, which I am doubting, I would give him my full support}

Ed there are lots of available players, walcot, llorente, Gramiero, sneijder, villa, holtby to name a few, in fact iv never known a January window with so many quality players who are available or are out of contract. All of which would improve our team. If u pay the money then u get the players it's as simple as that.

A question to my fellow reds. is it obvious that we have no power in our team? Even One of our toughest players skrtel gets "bullied" when he comes across average players who are big tough athletes ie Benteke and kenwyn jones! Then our midfield gets bullied when coming against athletes ! Allen and Lucas are good players but for me we need a big athlete in that position - who won't be bullied and can monster the opposition. In the summer we had the option of signing diame on a free but we never - he battered us when we played west ham and now a host of clubs want him as he's been great all season. The game only changed when he came off injured. For me moussa sissocko is a must - i would put a cheeky bid in for lescot too. Although I think both Agger and skrtel Are better - I think lescot can handle athletes better than them. I don't know who it is at Liverpool who wants us to pay big prices for players but when they become available for cheap or for free we turn our noses up at them and don't even make an attempt to get them. I just don't get it. Sorry to have a moan LFC fans as I am usually a positive red but I feel frustrated with the players that I see we are not making an effort for but fit in perfectly with our aims/goals. I'm a realist so I do not expect cavani llorente and players of this ilk but I do think we should be making moves to sign players such as Holtby and sissocko ! What are the thoughts of everyone? Red Rom

We put Stoke out of both cups last year Red Rom, at theirs and ours.
It's about attitude on the day, and Liverpool's was rubbish the other night there.
If Rodgers has got a vision of how he wants to play, he should stick with it.
I have a lot of time for the Stoke fans, who provide loyal and vocal support up and down the country. But I wouldn't pay to watch that every week.
The Juicer

I agree that the team could perhaps do with a real athlete like Moussa Sissoko

I also think Holtby would be a great addition and could potentially fill the no.10 role

However our Midfield is quite dense as it is and by buying more midfielders we are still avoiding our main transfer priority attack and furthermore stopping the development of players like Shelvey and Suso etc.

Personally think that Sissoko should be lined up as he can fill the hole that Sahin will create in the SUMMER

Think holtby and sissoko will sign a pre contract agreement with spurs!

"However our Midfield is quite dense as it is" - Yea but Johnson is doing a degree in Maths so it's as broad as it is long. RED LENIN

I believe ince will arrive over the next few days hopefully before the united match. anyway my point here is with ince and sturridge we will have great options up top. Suarez, sturridge, sterling, ince, borini and suso are all under 25. 6 players we have all tied down for many years. add gerrard and downing into they attacking options and even Enrique pushed forward can we have any real complaints?

Now onto the sahin being moved on early. The reason for this is simple.....Lucas was just getting back from injury and Rodgers didn't rate Henderson and shelvey. u look now and we have Lucas Allen shelvey Henderson and gerrard all capable of filling they 3 midfield slots. no need for sahin and no need to shell out on his ridiculous wages.

We are cost cutting whilst slowly building a team for the future. a think this summer we will be better places to challenge for these so called 'marque' signings some of u all go on about now the wage bills down and the team is in a stronger league position which I believe we will be....maybe not 4th but tucked right in behind. The owners, team and fans will all believe it'll be there next season if we want it and we will achieve champs league qualification.

From a very positive liverpool fan

Ed, have Liverpool gave Joe Cole all the money we owe him already now or is it that we will be paying him throughout his contract at West Ham? I've heard both things and I'm not 100% sure {Ed002's Note - As I have said, I really do not want to get back in to any detail of the agreement with Cole.}

Thats strange...if we have agreed to pay all the money which we owe him in another two years at one lumpsum..
y are we selling him?
whats the point?
we could have used him atleast to clean the ground... {Ed002's Note - But that is not the case. Perhaps you could use some of teh other players you disrespect to clean up the ground?}

People going on about the Joe Cole money is doing my head in, get over it. We got him on a free, that's why the wages are so high, we took a gamble it didnt work out. That's how free transfers work, rather than paying a club a fee you end up paying the equivalent to the player. If it makes it easier to accept, why don't people just pretend that we paid chelsea £3 million for him. Personally, I'd rather give the money to Joe Cole than the CFC.

I believe Jordan Henderson is beginning to show his real potential and on reflection, although we paid a little over the odds for him, he is now starting to show his class.

Some players, especially young ones, need time to adjust and he has now started to show exactly why Kenny wanted him. He was obviously bought for the future and now looks a good investment.

He could be a good captain, he has all the right attributes, skill, application, determination and never complains ( unlike some )

Well done Jordan for showing real character recently

Tel 1949

Henderson has potential to be one of the teams workhourse, but IMO we paid over the odds for this opotential. I never quite understood why KK played himout of position. Perhaps the benefit of that experience is assiting him for the long term. Reality Red

He is professional. He grabs whatever chances he gets, and is reliable.
His debut was against Sunderland and willingly plays against them, because it's another chance to impress. Compare that to Carroll who looked like he didn't want to be on the pitch against Newcastle

with the FA Cup and Europa league games around the corner, coupled with our difficult games coming up on the PL over the next month, don't you think that any re-inforcements we can get in before end of jan is better rather than waiting out till end of the season, we have a thin enough squad now, with all these players leaving on loan, what if we pick up some injuries, then we rely on the youngsters again?
if the sturridge deal is the only business we doing in Jan then i think this is another wasted transfer window just like the last, AYRE is dissapointing yet again

I agree with you on Ian Ayre, he seems totally inept at transfer dealings but that said its only the 4th of January and we have to relax and give the club a chance. Sturridge in and Cole out so far is good business to me. I also know Rodger's said it would be a quiet window but he isn't going to shout from the roof tops that we are looking to buy a load of player, it would simply give other teams an opportunity to stick a few extra quid on any deal. Anyway Judge them when the window closes

K-Man

FSG will not conduct the club's business for short-termism. They made this mistake when they paid (admittedly with Chelsea's money) £35m for the then injured Andy Carroll as a mistaken statement of intent following the defection. Siggurdson (his wages) and Dempsey (Fulham's fee) were judged last summer too high when compared to their talent and likely contribution and both were left for Spurs to snap up . Neither are particularly setting the world on fire and FSG and BR's cautious call on these two were spot on thereby resulting in a saving for the club of £120-£140k a week (plus Dempsey's transfer fee). Better to be a little short up front for 3 months and then get the player BR wants than to be lumbered with inadequate players who will stay for 4-5 years on whopping salaries and contribute little. Moving Cole on is also the right call (as was moving high earners Kuyt and Maxi on last summer). Though we have had to give Cole a £3-£4m pay off, his contribution has and would continue to be minimal and the £40k a week in wages saved for the next 18 months makes sense and also pays for a large proportion of Sturridge's wages for the next 18 months . Sturridge is the type of signing which makes sense. He has real pace, skill and undoubted talent. If it does not work out (transfers are never guaranteed to work, just ask Kaka and Real) the club will be able to move him on in 18 months time for 7-8m to one of the lesser premiership clubs. This would be a modest loss compared to the £20-25m loss the club will suffer when Carroll moves on. On the other hand if Sturridge fulfils the undoubted potential he has (he has all the attributes to do so and has the right manager behind him) £12m will be seen retrospectively to be an absolute bargain. Efforts are being made by all at the club including Ayre to manage the club properly. This will stand us in good stead in the medium to long term. Reality Red

I understand all that reailty red but it still doesn't excuse leaving us short for 3 months and without further reinforcements (after Sturridge)possibly for the rest of the season. FSG and Ayre also knew Dempseys price tag from the start of the transfer window but chose to play a dangerous game of chicken hoping for a reduced fee at the end of the window - which resulted in a loss. We are lucky to have a player like Suarez to pick up the slack but if he had of broken his foot instead of Borini we would be in big trouble. Sensible running of the club I agree with but risking our season on a game of bluff is stupid. I hope like everyone else to they get it right this window and if they want to wait until the summer to get the "right" signing like you've rightly suggested they should still loan someone such as Gameiro to fill the current gap in the squad.

K-Man

Fantastic reply Reality Red. Very astute

Why so much inquiry about Quaresma? Do people realize he was let go. Yes, he had potential and wasn't bad in the past. So did Joe Cole. Chelsea let him go and the rest they say is history. Surely Besiktas are in a good position to say how good he is. If he simply didn't 'get along' with the manager, players etc. wouldn't they try and sell him for a profit? Why just let him go? Probably because he is crap. {Ed002's Note - He was only on loan at Chelsea.}

His move to Barcelona h*cked up his carreer.

They did, to numerous clubs including liverpool, last summer for around 6 million euro

His contract was up at the end of the season and due to a complete breakdown in relationship between the manager and Quaresma Besiktsas decided to get rid early

or were i could find out nice 1.

Simply answer to this is that in 2012 the year lucas was out we lost more games than we won. That for me highlights his importance to the team. For me its no shock that our turn in form coincides with his return to the team

K-Man

"Simply answer to this is that"

I sound like a meerkat with bad grammer

K-Man

So far this season, without Lucas we've played 13 games and won 18 pts. That's 46% of the 39 pts available.

With Lucas (including the game he got injured) we've played 8 games andwon 13 pts. That's 54% of the 24 pts available.

Of course, it's never that simple as without Lucas we've played against Man U, Man C, Spurs, Everton, Chelsea, West Brom and Arsenal (i.e. all the teams above us!). With Lucas playing we've played against West Ham, Villa, Fulham, Stoke, QPR and Sunderland.

Of course, we know that last season up until Lucas got injured in November, our form was much better than afterwards.

k-man i notice the same thing and it got me wondering.

i love stats.

cheers to the dude who put them stats up.
oh i'm thinking on what you said, we had much harder games without him in the team, but were always on our a game for the likes of man u and all that,

the weaker teams are truly the harder one tho tbh.
we need to keep him fit at all costs, and maybe get some back-up for him just in case it happens again.

nice 1 again

My original post was based on the 2012 calender year as Lucas was out for the bulk of it. If you look at this season we did play easier sides with him in the team but if you look at January to May last year he was out for that whole period, we played every team in the league and we would have got relegated based on our form in them five months.

Thanks for the reply dreadred, I agree we raise the bar in those games and with Lucas we may have turn some of those losses into draws and draws into wins. Overall I was just making a very general point that we are a much stronger side with Lucas. Im pretty sure nobody will disagree with that.

A question for ed001 - I'd like to hear your footballing view on the full back situation. I am delighted with yesterday's match, but I got the distinct impression that the serious chances for sunderland to score a goal came after positional mistakes by Andre Wisdom - am I mistaken, or was it really the young lad's lack of experience showing?
I am afraid that such mistakes could be fatal against Man Un - who do you think will be a better fit for the full-back, Downing, Wisdom or J. Robinson? Or perhaps a switch to 5-3-2?

Cheers after a great win,
Drigan {Ed001's Note - Wisdom will be fine, he will make mistakes, but he needs to make them to learn from them. It wasn't all down to him, the cover he had was nonexistent from midfield. But Gerrard, , who was in front of him simply can't get forward to provide the attacking thrust and get back to cover, it is not possible for him to be in two places at once. I thought the balance between attack and defence was just right. Wisdom will handle most threats one and one fine, he has strength, pace and learns quickly. He is also very comfortable on the ball and allows us to play Johnson at left back, where I personally think he is better. I do think Robinson is going to be excellent, but right now Wisdom is ahead of him. Downing is not a full back except for emergency cover in my opinion.}

I agree with Ed, wisdom is a very good footballer and he gives us great balance. I too think Johnson is better out wide on the left.

DJC

I like Wisdom but I don't think full back is his position. He's OK to stand-in. I hope centre half is where he'll end up. Same for Kelly.
Neither gets forward enough for me.

Like wisdom alot, he does the simple things well and looks very solid, yes he'll get caught out a few times but its a learning curve

on to Ed, and DJC's, points about Johnson, i also believe he plays better at LB, imo this is almost certainly down to him being right footed and playing against right footed players

If you like Wisdom you'll love Sama

OK ed, thank you!

Got this feeling that sturrige and Suarez is going to turn out to be br best move yet, thinking about it, it makes a lot of sense.

i will back him as i have learn my lesson.

hopefully you will to.

Jan molby's old rusty nad's.

Just came on to post the same thing, Mr Nads.

He looks exactly like what we've needed for a long, long while: poacher and tapper-in who can also provide assists and score a few longer range and headed goals to boot.

Just hope he and Suarez can strike up an amicable and selfless understanding for the greater good.

Well done Mr Rodgers.

Dr S. Atire.

So glad we never got Dempsy or Siggnurdson....

Agreed! Much happier with what we have now!

Maybe we can trick Tottering with a few more dummy targets

I am personally going to donate 10 pound for every time a liverpool player makes Nani cry this money will be divided up by the million to set charitys of his choice as long as we can understand what he is trying to say inbetween his sobs.

I hope every other Liverpool fan will join in I was going to drink a pint but then realised I would be dead by half time.
Bonus Money will be made available if Fergie claims we could have killed him.

what do you think ed will your site get behind this please.

I was going to donate 5p every time Fergie makes a hypocritical comment but realised I'm not a multi-millionaire

Intresting dilemma here, which would you rather have?Liverpool finish 4th and M*n Uni*ted win the league OR City win the league but we finish 5th?

Agree for 4th Disagree for 5th

The Rectangle

anyone who supports liverpool hates united but really us finishing 4th is far more important to us couldnt care less who wins it as finishing fourth is revenue and a big pulling factor in top players coming to us to hopefully contribute to us winning league in time and regularly being in champs league bit of a no brainer really what is ur preference

United win the league and we get 4th who cares about what other teams achieve, we need what's in our best interest.

Plymouth Red.

I am not English, so never really understood the whole rivalry thing (LFC and Man U), it just makes no sense to me.
Old grudges and dislikes, passed on from generation to generation, accepted and never questioned.
Its all a bit silly really.
I appreciate good football, great management, and superb tactics, execution of a gameplan.

I dare not even attach my name here, for fear of rebuke.

But say this, get over these silly childlike obsessions, grow up, and act responsibly.

Only true supporters would want Liverpool to finish as high up in league as possible no matter who ended up winning the league! All the others are just anti man utd fans really!

If Im honest to myself, City to win title and we finish 5th. Ok so we dont get CL place, but were not quite ready yet anyway. I dont want United to win another title...end of.

There is nothing strange about this, I just feel that Fergie has cheated his way to too many titles over the years.

I hope they win nowt this year, but unfortunately its not going to be the case Im afraid. It looks like the titles theirs anyway. If they lose it now, Fergie would have to retire and that would make 90% of UK supporters happy

Being an island nation causes this I think Jason Manford described it best with his we all hate our neighbours sketch.

To the responder who says grow up - my dislike of Man U wasn't passed down to me, my old man couldn't give a monkeys about football. My dislike has been built up over many years, nurtured by the willingness of the media to immunise the club and manager from any wrong doing, however much deserved. My dislike of that lot is part of me, and I don't care for you sat on your high horse telling me to drop it. What is football if not for rivalries? The game next Sunday wouldn't be half the game it is if we all felt like you. If you don't get the rivalry thing, that's your problem.

P.S. I reckon we will turn them over at their place.

Nick

Very difficult one. Would be very difficult to stomach old red nose celebrating another PL title. It felt so good last season for them to lose it the way they did.
However, unfortunately we've all been accustomed to seeing them win the league so the pain is not as much as it was in the early 90's.
We need to finish 4th and be back in the CL, it's the only way we'll improve as a side, so in this one, i could not give a hoot what either Manc side does

G

To the foreign guy who posted about the rivalries.

Whilst I understand your point, rivalry is the nucleus of football.
Listen, I'm not scouse, like a lot of Liverpool fans both nationwide and worldwide.
This is why I don't share the same feelings towards Everton. I don't hate them at all or feel a rivalry towards them because I don't have the scouse roots to understand or empathise what that actually means. On the outside, I happen to admire everything David Moyes has done there, his ethos, his ability to grind results, consistently compete, and form a formidable side out of very limited money is admittedly very admirable in contrast to how we have squandered grimacing amounts of money. If you asked me if I prefer Everton or Man United, I'd say Everton in a second.
Why do I loathe everything about the Fergie era? Not because of the roots I don't have. Because the whole thing is a conspiracy. How you can feel the 97th minute winning goal omen hanging on the commentators every word. Every jammy result, and every fortunate decision. How undeniable it is that referees favour them because of how Fergie intimidates them. How he can be so unashamedly hypocritical. Even the way he arrogantly chews his gum. Everything about his demeanour just grinds my gears.
It isn't a childish matter my friend, it is in fact very personal. Every match against them is a grudge match between the locals, and it wouldn't be nearly as good without it. With all due respect, maybe where you come from is more civilised and pompous, but English things like this kind of rivalry are not to be understood by foreigners.

i posted earlier that i didnt believe any more transfer movement unless moves out, but it seems moves in and out are afoot.

ince in and gameiro on loan are on their way soon.

as a result expect downing to be sold and sahins loan to finish.

looks like hendo stayin put, although if he or assaidi can be sold for the right money, a central mid or two will arrive.

Sell Assaidi? After 2 first team games and an injury? Garbage

Downing is not going anywhere! At least not till the summer!

Hi eds, just a quick question as the site is being spammed with rumours about this player, what is the cause of these posts, and which 'source' have they been taken from? Please let it not be Twitter... {Ed002's Note - The words "this player" are not the clearest if you want me to answer.}

Henderson? Downing? do u think they will be sold?

Henderson no. Rodger's has been impressed with him so far and is willing to keep him as a squad player for the foreseeable future.

Downing maybe. He is up for sale right now I would assume but if he puts in more good performances as he has done recently then he will be kept.

Reid the Red

Probably not

Downing will go. if a mid replacement in lined up hendo may go too.

No resale value yet and both very good squad and first team players I see no reason to sell them and im sure neither does Brendan.

It annoys me that hes only being played to put him in the shop window

At the game last night Hendo gave quite a long salute to the fans when he was subbed. Okay, he did get a good ovation but, nevertheless, I said to the bloke next to me that he seemed to be saying goodbye.
PADDOCKPETE

Henderson is going nowhere, he is one of our best midfielders. PJRED

You honestly believe a manager plays a player just to put him in the shop window - in our position where every point counts - no manager would play a player if he didn't think he was the best player to do that job for that particular game.

Rodgers just couldn't risk it?

John B

He was saluting the Sunderland fans who were clapping him.

Hi eds, I get frustrated reading about people saying we shouldn't get quaresma as he has a bad attitude and no potential at this stage. On sahin it was said when we loaned him that real would pay his full wages. Has something changed and do you know if Liverpool pay a percentage of his wages {Ed002's Note - Liverpool pay a percentage of his wages - most in fact.}

Have you heard any info on player movement in Jan other than Ince?
Are you aware of any loan deals the club are trying to do?
