Any chance the DOF, or similar position, will be given to Rafa?
His want for a return to Liverpool.
His agent confirming his return to the UK.
Our need for this position.
The European competition pedigree.
His ability to attract top level players.
Spanish.

Is a DoF at a top club a promotion for a coach/manager? Is Rafa at 59 the right age and experience.

Believable5 Unbelievable24

05 Mar 2015 00:38:23
IMO, heck NO! We are moving forward and the past needs to stay in the past.

Agree17 Disagree1

05 Mar 2015 00:47:50
Why on earth would anyone want this? If this were to happen anytime the manager would be under pressure he would feel Rafa wanting the Managers position breathing down their neck.

FUrthermore Rafa wasn't always a proponent of attractive football and his success in the transfer market is as dubious if not moreso than Rodgers. For every Reina, Torres and Alonso there is a Aquilani, Riera and Keane.

Agree5 Disagree0

05 Mar 2015 08:50:22
Not suggesting he replace Rodgers, but he does tick a good few boxes. His guidence for European competition and attracting top players as well as spotting a few. If Rodgers is left with the team selection and tactics in general as suggested on here the dof is likely but maybe not such a controlling position, Rafa does make up most of his short comings, which has been getting in top level players and failing in Europe.
It would be good to have someone who loves the club and the fans who'd see it more then just a job.

Has anyone really heard much or knows a great amount about the names dropped for DOF? Not counting Cruyff who's no chance, I've no idea about anyone else mentioned o their cv. Unlike Rafa

Agree2 Disagree7

05 Mar 2015 23:30:39
Rafa wants to come back to LFC at some point as manager so using him as a DOF over the current manager is a disaster and thank God fans don`t make such decisions.

So what happened to all the hype re us breaching the ffp ?

Believable11 Unbelievable0

05 Mar 2015 00:56:41
It's simple, the people running the club know how to run a business

Agree4 Disagree0

05 Mar 2015 05:04:37
The only hype was by the fans. The Eds were just informing us that we were under investigation and were also in breach. However, they've deemed us suitable to pass.

05 Mar 2015 05:58:21
I think the club have very good accountants.

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Mar 2015 09:56:44
Ed002 has explained why we were given a ''pass'' by the governing body. This doesn't mean we shouldn't worry about spending at all though for the future. Infact the argument we gave was to vehemently stop a sanction because we hadn't gone quite according to plan.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Mar 2015 13:45:03
I can see the posts coming in the summer ' now we've passed FFP rules does that mean we can sell borini and aspas and replace with reus and benzema'

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Mar 2015 22:26:47
Chuffed with the win obviously but not impressed with the performances. Sterling had a mare. Couldn't trap a bag of cement. Certain times we were all screaming to push forward. Not sure if it's fatigue or the lads were just cruising but they were happy playing it back instead of going for jugular.

We could have torn them apart and scored few more if we wanted. A win is a win. (How lucky are Utd?)

Believable5 Unbelievable14

04 Mar 2015 22:38:32
Fatigue?!!? From what? Flicking through his mid season holiday snaps?

Agree3 Disagree3

05 Mar 2015 00:06:23
Maybe you should Give the team a break, We've played 3 games in 7 days, and won two. I know Rodgers brought players to rotate so we wouldn't get tired.
But We still played a high pressing game up until the last quarter, given how we played at the start of the season until now, undefeated in 11 (or is it 12 now) games?
Most consistent team in the league this year.
And kept a clean sheet, and where breathing down the knock of Utd.
Enjoy it 😃

Agree7 Disagree1

05 Mar 2015 00:44:47
Did you just need to criticize smeone or you were joking? We`ve played a tonne of games (every 3 days) since Boxing Day and we are unbeaten in all but prolly 2 games and for me, this game was a trap game because we were severely favored and the boys did the job. Job Done!!

Agree2 Disagree0

04 Mar 2015 22:26:29
Ed001 does it pain you to see utd fluke their way too another win or are you confident we will beat them to top 4?

Believable6 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it pains me anyway, even though I am confident of finishing above them.}

04 Mar 2015 22:49:52
Their football is just dire to watch. It was buring my eyes.

Agree11 Disagree0

05 Mar 2015 00:39:53
All I know after watching Man United jam their way to the win at Geordieland, is that Tim Krul would be a fantastic replacement for De Gea, when he makes his move to Real Madrid in a couple of seasons or sooner.

Van Gaal probably thought something similar just before the final whistle tonight. ;D

Agree3 Disagree0

05 Mar 2015 00:46:40
Their luck is going to run out and we`re the ones who are going to get it done.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Mar 2015 02:14:25
Agree with Ollieston3. De Gea will not hang around for too long. Even if he signs a new contract, Real will come next year and snap him up. Krul is good, but no where as good as De Gea. The mancs will realize that soon enough. The football the are playing is dire and painful to watch, even the relegation threatened teams (including our dear neighbors) are playing better football. Hopefully, Man Utd's luck runs around and Brendan and Co capitalize on it.

Believable10 Unbelievable1

05 Mar 2015 06:58:21
That goal was pure comedy gold.
Newcastle deserved that because they played the United name and not the actual United team.
They were scared stiff of United when this season there is nothing to be scared stiff about.
Ashley Young is bailing them out week after week.
That tells you all you need to know.
LVG treatment of players is as awful as his style of play.
He has alienated Di Maria and Falcao.
Players he desperately needs if they are to finish in the top 4.
Arsenal v United on the 2nd last weekend of the season may well decide which out of those 2 go into the top 4.

Agree3 Disagree0

05 Mar 2015 13:49:32
You would think Dwight yorke would support A villa a bit more than his love for utd saying he played for them 2 thirds of his career.glory glory hunters he fits in well there.

04 Mar 2015 21:43:51
It's not their luck mate its the quality of the league. Anyone can make a mistake but Newcastle were woeful and have been all season. United are their because of the quailty of the league which says alot'

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Mar 2015 21:36:54
The PL is drowned with money from the rights but the entire league needs a huge improvement in terms of quality in the next few years. The top 5 are decent with an included woeful united. But after that five when you look at the standard it's shocking. The PL is well below the German and Spanish leagues overall. Quality is vastly regressing

Believable20 Unbelievable8

05 Mar 2015 00:50:53
The fact that we were woeful in the first half of the season and due to this good run, we have made up the gap virtually is a scathing indictmnt of the PL`s quality atm because 5-10 years ago, the best we could have hoped for with that dreadful start would be 8th, 25-30 points behind Chelsea.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Mar 2015 08:33:17
I actually disagree - it's the top 3-4 that can't compete atm with the top teams from Spain and Germany. The league as a whole is consistently very very tough which is why we don't have such massive points gaps as we move down the league - every team is a real challenging match, there are no games where you are guaranteed to coast to a victory and even the newly promoted ones can bite you if you don't stay on top of them. The quality upgrade is needed at the top, the league as a whole is much stronger and more entertaining but we are let down by the inability of the winners to compete

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Mar 2015 17:18:57
Let's put it this way, if bayern where in this league they wouldn't win it by some ridiculous 20 point gap, in fact they wouldn't even win it as often as they do. Same would apply to real and barca. We have the hardest and most entertaining league in the world. But we do not have the 3 elite teams anymore. Bayern, real and barca are the only teams better than any team we have.

Hendo with another gerrard goal, Maybe just maybe we found a new captain fantastic ?

Believable20 Unbelievable1

05 Mar 2015 00:59:14
He`s a leader by example as well as a vocal leader. We should be happy to have a player who might not have grown up in our academy or as a local lad BUT has grown up right b4 our very eyes and only haters and trolls would slate him for his "lack of technical quality" as if that is all you need to be great. He is also very respectful as shown w/ the way he was talking to Clattenberg in the City game, arms behind his back and no yelling or mouthing off or putting his arm around Lovren who was a bit jittery and would later have a solid game. Don`t know if he will be a great captain BUT the signs are very good.

N BTW, he and Coutinho are having a head-to-head competition for PL Goal of the Month while the rest of the league watch and grow green in envy.

Agree3 Disagree0

06 Mar 2015 12:47:03
He is a talented footballer and a tremendous athlete, add that to a great attitude on and off the pitch and he is captain material.

Hello guys, just a hypothetical question, albeit an extremely unlikely scenario.

If Liverpool were to win 4 major trophies in 1 season, the 2 domestic cups, the league and the Champions League, who would you want to face in all the finals and who would you want to just pip the title from?

For me, it would have to be Everton in the League cup, Chelsea in the FA cup and United in the league, then I'd have to pick AC Milan for the CL final.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

04 Mar 2015 17:47:18

United have the weakest squad out of the top teams. They have no quality in midfielder. Herreras their best and he isn't played. They have one top striker in falcoa who's failing for numerous reasons and they have the an awful defence. Their best player is de gea.

Hopefully De Gea is off to Madrid in the summer and Falcao's not even close to getting a perm deal at United I'd hope.

I would ask this on the United page, but I'd imagine I'd get a lot of abuse for asking it there, so forgive me but could Ed001 or Ed002 please answer if United are in a bad way, both on and off the field? I'd hate for them go sink too far down, after all, rivalries make the league as good as it is.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - there are just a few issues behind the scenes, nothing other than the usual LVG falling out with people and driving wedges between them.}

04 Mar 2015 15:42:49
Anyone got any credible information on the starting 11 tonight?
As long as they're all fit, I'd give the starting 11 from Sunday another go. Sturridge to come on after 60 mins.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

04 Mar 2015 15:17:05
Brendan Rodgers feared getting the sack. Blaming the sort of players he now had. Then he goes on to boast about his versatility to find a way out the poor form.
The man is a fool, he simply reverted back to last seasons tactics, and we are where we are cause he decided to change tactics start of the season.
This man is no good for liverpool, long term we need a manager who isn't insane!

Believable6 Unbelievable14

04 Mar 2015 15:54:29
Just completely destroyed the champions and you want the manager out?
I'll agree with you in Brendan is far from perfect. His interviews are cringeworthy. A lot of his transfer window activity is borderline shocking. But what this man is good at is getting a young exciting team and making it play attractive fast flowing football and let's face it, who would come into this club and do a better job?

Agree15 Disagree0

04 Mar 2015 16:19:35
Making mistakes is no big deal, so long as you learn from said mistakes(don't do them again in other words). I think BR does learn from most of his mistakes, however when we go on a run, he gets all giddy and can't wait to open his mouth.

Agree3 Disagree0

04 Mar 2015 16:24:26
Tbh mate as good as we are doing right now we have to wait til next season to find out if rodgers is a long term solution. I mean he dismantled and diddled with a side that nearly won the league purely though arrogance, who's to say he won't do it again?

Agree2 Disagree1

04 Mar 2015 18:42:33
Anonymous, you say he dismantled the team. Most of the players he got rid of were the same players that most on here were screaming to be rid of.And not one of them is setting the world alight are they. The players he brought in (who loads on here were saying were rubbish) have now settled in and fair play to Rogers has found a system to suit them. Just one more point, all the pundits and ex footballers are giving him credit for this but still we get moaning comments on here from non professional people. Who should I listen to

Hey lfc fans.

dont you think its kinda funny that with all of liverpools hardwork through coping with injuries and winning games. that southampton win 1 game after such a long time and go straight above liverpool again.

gotta laugh right :p

so winning tonight becomes even more important than the city game. because a draw or loss would push man utd an arsenal further away

Believable4 Unbelievable3

04 Mar 2015 15:41:51
Because United will win tonight right? United won't finish in the top 4, they don't even deserve to be in the top 6.

Pretty much said it yourself- Another 'massive' game. Why on earth would we change a winning team to see if our benchwarmers will cut it for next season??

Agree9 Disagree0

04 Mar 2015 14:12:13
Theoretically it could provide a good platform if we win it early and are in a position to rotate and rest some people. If we're 2 or 3 up and cruising in the first half, Coutinho can take a knee and let Borini run at them for a while. But the priority must be to get the win

Agreed on the teams involved but:

Chelsea
City
Liverpool
Arsenal
United

United have a very imbalanced squads and have overloads of players in the same position whilst very little in others. Don't particularly rate any of their defenders, even their best one (Blind) is better not in defense.

Arsenal have a similar problem to a lesser extent, and I would put at pretty much equal to us.

Why does everyone underrate our squad so much? Arsenal apart from them attack they really don't have proper depth or quality.

Don't see what everyone else does in United. They can't even put out a good first 11.

And spurs have a great squad despite their first team lacking slightly. Our squad is comfortably 3rd best in the league. It was just poorly managed up until January.

firstrowsports.eu/ I find it OK although it does have small nuisance popup ads that appear in front of the screen. And sometimes the X is not where it should be. But once you navigate through them the stream is usually quite good. I guess I'm just too lazy to search for another streaming site.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Mar 2015 14:14:06
Worth pointing out that the reason many sites lag is they have too much traffic and too many users to deal with, so it's better having a decent spread!

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Mar 2015 16:04:51
wiziwig is no longer available, however, the one I use as I get very little lag is myp2p(dot)ec yes that is an ec at the end instead of eu/com/co.uk etc. It's a flash streaming site, quality is sub par in some cases but it's viewable.

I am yet to find another stream site such as wiziwig where you can use external software to watch the game such as acestream and sopcast. It's what I'd prefer so if anyone has a link to one of those streaming sites, I'd be very grateful ^_^

Okehampton? Strange place to go on holiday! Just a pointer, okey is in Devon, not Cornwall, if you go over to Cornwall make sure you don't confuse the two counties, Cornwall are precious about these things! Us Devon folk aren't, because yeno, were cool ;-)

It seemed like a good base to explore the stoneage archaeology of dartmoor is all ;)
I'll let you know if I find anywhere.

After reading posts, I can't help but think if BR uses the word BURNOUT in his next press conference, Ed001 will take Ed002's advice and graffiti RODGERS OUT on Anfield's wall lol.

Anyway going to bed now, Feeling burnt out

{Ed001's Note - I will be too busy banging my head against the wall hoping to remove it from my memory.}

Just breath in the spray paint and you won't remember a thing.

{Ed001's Note - to be honest at my age forgetting things is not a problem.}

You're never old Ed001. I imagined you to be some young lad with a blue, red cape and a greasy 70's comb back! Especially dealing with some of these(perhaps including myself!!) on here.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - you imagine me? That is a scary thought! Even my missus tries to imagine someone else rather than me.}

Someone has a crush ;-)

{Ed001's Note - not even my missus has a crush on me mate.}

Except ed2 of course.
Don't deny that ed1 ;-)

{Ed001's Note - I could never deny that, it is just one of those crosses I have to bear in life.}

I've not posted on here for like half a year! That's a joke! I couldn't go half a day without looking before!

I just wanna say thank you to everyone that gave advice to me when I decided to go traveling around NZ 6 months ago! I'm still here, settled in Queenstown! Finally.

Onto the important stuff! We have this, we got this! I'm so hyped! Top 3 is on! Got to treat burnley as if it was the best team in the world! Need to keep this run going! It's amazing what confidence can do huh?

We got this! Good to be settled! Great to be back on this! YNWA team

Cheers, Nelly

So ed1 it's looking 100% we'll bring in someone above Rodgers to help him out! Will the title be DOF or technical director or something like that or will it be kept fairly quiet ??
Thanks

{Ed001's Note - nothing is 100% but yes that is likely.}

{Ed001's Note - we have shown interest, but he was all set for Barca, so not sure what is happening now with him.}

This is part of what Brendan has said in a recent interview.
In connection with fearing he might of got the sack following the Palace game.

"I needed to make decisions that would allow us to get back to somewhere near what we had been and the transformation of the team, with everyone talking about the system and how dynamic it is, has been good to see. I should have done it earlier.

Maybe he is learning??

That's what I thought, right up until he said this.

"That’s what I am, an innovative coach, and I needed to find a way to make us play better.”

One step forward two steps back? Just wonder how he fits through doors with a head that size

If you have a gun to your head you pretty much have to do what you're told don't you.
