Milner lead by example today. Worthy to be captain for the day. Would not surprise me if he continues at LB next season. Clyne on the other hand, he had an ok game but we seriously need an upgrade as he is never going to be good enough.

Believable9 Unbelievable6

04 Mar 2017 23:33:47
Milner offers nothing upfront as a Left back. I expect a new LB to come in or the summer.

05 Mar 2017 00:19:17
Both need to be replaced.

05 Mar 2017 01:12:19
Milner was ok but he's never going to be our long-term option at left back. Clyne, on the other hand was poor imo. At fault for the Arsenal goal when he let Welbeck run right past him despite marking him.

04 Mar 2017 20:51:10
What a great game! Exactly what we needed today with the win and most of all the performance!

The big job really is for Klopp - how does he make sure we don't revert back to old ways against Burnley like we've done so many times this season?

Believable6 Unbelievable0

04 Mar 2017 21:34:20
We've always been a good counter attacking side. Problem starts when teams happily defend deep and counter us where klopp has failed to adapt.

04 Mar 2017 20:36:32
Firmino and Lallana had great games today. It is so frustrating!

They play so well occasionally that you don't want to drop them and the don't show up for games against lesser sides.

I think for Firmino he has so much quality and age on his side. Lallana though needs to massively up his consistency to keep his place or next season in my opinion. He was good tonight but his end product was still found wanting.

Great result though. Just a shame it makes all these guys undroppable against Burnley where they will probably coast and lose again knowing this season!

Believable2 Unbelievable9

04 Mar 2017 22:13:11
Lallana even when ''poor''has often been the bes tplayer on the pitch, some people just have agendas from 2 years back. when he has movement in front of him he releases it, when he doesn'the takes his ''too many touches'' in search of a viable unmarked option (which many people don't get. ) when those around him bother, Lallana willplay it, sadly those around him haven't bothered. He has always done his defensive duties, sotat's never been a problem. He aong with Mane are the only 2 who genuinely should be vying for the player of the season titles.

04 Mar 2017 23:09:51
If we sort out the defence we have a team.

04 Mar 2017 23:35:39
No doubt Lallana is a good player. He single handedly dismantled Middlesbrough earlier this season.

He then follows that with 2 months without a goal or assist though. It us only his consistency holding him back. He cannot be considered for player of the season after a good first 18 games. That's half a season. Even for our third goal today he nearly wasted the chance taking about 10 touches. Origi was very nearly offside trying to hold his run.

I like Lallana a lot. He is vital to our press and would be hard to improve on if we signed a replacement. He just needs to show up every week all season.

05 Mar 2017 00:35:50
Lallana checked his pass and did a turn to allow origi to get back on side, I thought he showed great awareness for the goal.

05 Mar 2017 00:44:01
What that was fabulous what lallana did for the 3rd goal.

Was so good. Touch. run. beats a man. outside of foot pass.

05 Mar 2017 01:15:08
Problem with Lallana is can you count on him to play out of his skin when its not a big game. Needs to be more consistent for me.

05 Mar 2017 11:58:44
The trick with Lallana is to play him in the right place, centre of the park, not shove him out on the wing. Yesterday he was in the right place = great performance and a good result. Simples.

04 Mar 2017 20:16:32
A lot of people worried about Coutinho being the subject of a big bid, i would be more worried about a big bid coming in for Mane.

Believable10 Unbelievable3

04 Mar 2017 20:42:36
Wouldn't have been the case had we played with an out and out striker up front who scores 20 a season. Regardless Mane is terrific. Who was the last winger we had? Barnes!

04 Mar 2017 21:22:48
we've got 3 or 4 players who could hit the magical 20 goal a season target this season.
That really ain't this teams problem, goals against has finished our title challenge this yr, either that's down to tactics, personal or application against "lesser" teams I think a blend of all 3 has been our downfall.

04 Mar 2017 21:26:20
Mane was unplayable today, best performance yet, lalana and firminio were great and the much maligned can played well is he, whole team were good.

04 Mar 2017 23:12:27
Firminio won't be far off the 20 Mark.
Add to that his team ethic and work rate.

The above posters should take a reality check.

04 Mar 2017 19:34:26
What a performance, lallana keeps proving he can be world class. Any truth in the rumours psg are sniffing around him.

Great wee 3-1 win. and nice to do it in front of the Saudi royal family. are they interested in investing into the club? Does anyone know?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

04 Mar 2017 19:48:58
What a performance tonight, we really need to build on with this result and push on to get top 4. Emre Can was excellent tonight played with real purpose and dominated the midfield. Yet we still have clowns doubting him, he carried us last year in europe against Dortmund and Villareal. He has got a lot of unwarranted stick this season and we had idiots saying Stewart should come in which is simply laughable. Klopp has huge faith in him so maybe some fans should start showing some too.

Believable11 Unbelievable4

04 Mar 2017 20:24:54
People are entitled to have an opinion without being called clowns. He has been mostly terrible this season so get off your high horse.

04 Mar 2017 20:42:15
Absolutely ridiculous, put the blame on him when we lose and then say nothing when he puts in a brilliant performance. Guarantee nothing was said about Lallana anonymous display last Monday.

04 Mar 2017 21:10:29
I agree can was great Today but he was very poor against Leicester. He needs to concentrate on his defensive side if he is to progress. Keep him as a DM as I think that would be his best position but he needs to keep his performance levels up. As for clyne his delivery was poor again today and definitely needs upgrading.

04 Mar 2017 22:14:57
Can had 1 good game, I like Can, I will give him time. ut please wipe the stains fro your pants after 1 good performance in about 20. Realistically, he should have been sent offthough.

04 Mar 2017 23:07:41
Mate he has had 1 good game in like 4 months. And i don't just mean average i mean he has been appalling in that time. Get a grip.

04 Mar 2017 23:50:15
Is this the same can who should of been sent off?

04 Mar 2017 23:50:17
So hang on, you are trying to call out other fans for being harsh on Can, but say that Stewart is laughable? That is one of the harshest and most out of order things I've ever read about any player on this site!

For the record I like Can. I don't want him to be sold, and I wanted him to start today. Stewart is blatantly a better defensive midfielder. Can is very good on the ball but he doesn't read the game well at all. In case you missed it today Can should've actually been sent off for a second yellow! He was excellent mostly, especially in possession, but his tackling is wild at best, horrific at worst!

I am getting a bit tired of done of our players getting rewarded for abject performances though. They play great in big games, then awful at lesser teams. How long do we let that go on before Klopp says "you know what lads, if you aren't up for Bournemouth away, then you won't be playing Arsenal at Anfield, regardless of whether I know you will play well in that game". Klopp is too loyal at times. At some point he has to break the mould and be ruthless when a large percentage of his first team choose not to try. Or we will never change our fortunes in smaller games.

05 Mar 2017 01:43:37
MK scouser just please stop, Stewart is nowhere near the quality/ level needed, it's blatantly obvious. He's not even making the bench and he's 24. Needs to leave for the sake of his own career, Really annoys me when fans beg for quality players to arrive then accept mediocrity like Stewart.

05 Mar 2017 16:50:25
Mediocrity? Wow.

06 Mar 2017 17:02:56
Ya, for a player who hasn't gotten near our already depleted bench I would call them a mediocre player. Will be sold in the Summer.

04 Mar 2017 19:38:45
I'm really happy with the win and that performance but it really does highlight that our struggles against the so called lesser teams seems to be an attitude problem, I didn't see anyone on the ground which is a surprise considering Klopp was so naive in putting the team through a mini-preseason so I don't think fitness has anything to do with it.

Wijnaldum is turning into the most frustrating player in the team, great performance tonight. The whole back four played well, I think Klavan especially and while he's not someone you would want starting every week he is an upgrade on Skrtel to say the least. Lallana was out of this world at times with his closing down and his vision - summed up with his involvement in the third goal.

I'm really pleased that we won, but we must take this opportunity and use it to push for the top 4 now.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

04 Mar 2017 22:08:42
Its looking like less an atitude problem and more a tactical problem.

Where 1 week away from the enzt match and only fans. Yet we know burnley will. sit the whole team behind yhe ball and counter.

The tacics tonight won't work next week.

Thats the problem. There is no need to press when you have the ball. We will have 70% next week.

So its about finiding a way to win.

Scout burnlet and find wrakness in how they play and build a team that can exploit that. If they don't like pace then throw moreno and mane on the wings and play yhem. as wide. as they will. don't have 7 number 10's tryig to pass thete way through the middle.

04 Mar 2017 19:30:56
What a result. I am not going to gloat about our performance but Klopp definitely knows how football should be played. The players simply need to follow Klopp's instructions then teams like Burnley will be crushed.

Forget Coutinho tonight, Mane and Firmino were like demons on the pitch. Lallana's Cruyff turn, Origi and bang Wijnaldum scores. That is how football should be played.

Oh and Harry, do you see now why Firmino leads our line? This is a player which is absolutely everywhere on the pitch in majority of our matches, win or lose. Firmino does not get the recognition he deserves. he will be the last player Klopp's substitutes as he is one of the players Liverpool can always depend on whether he scores, assists or not.

Football in it's purest form was displayed by the Reds today. Burnley up next, only one thing to do and that is smash them.

Back in the top 4. Liverpool now you need to keep us there.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

04 Mar 2017 19:35:04
agree maxi but we still need a 20 goal a season striker who can do the press as well its not bobbys natural postion but he is a very good option to have there .

04 Mar 2017 19:41:55
Firmino is quality. Definitely doesn't get the recognition he deserves. I personally thought we should have bought him the year before we did! I just think another quality winger added to our squad and we'll be set from an attacking point of view next season.

04 Mar 2017 19:43:34
Firmino has been awful for 95% of matches since the turn of the year.

04 Mar 2017 20:09:34
It was excellent, but it beggars the question as to why we have been so poor against teams outside the top 6 since January. Lallana, Mane, Clyne, Wijnaldum and to a lesser extent Matip and Milner were completely different players today compared to Monday and they really need to look in the mirror and ask themselves why they can't play with that sort of purpose and desire every game.

Cos there's no reason for them not to.

04 Mar 2017 20:15:06
Good to see coutinho and firmino playing with a spark again some of the football first half was fantastic.

04 Mar 2017 23:09:20
Yes and when we need a goal and the football isn't flowing likr it was tonight, firmino won't turn up. Christ almighty this site has bipolar disorder i swear to god.

04 Mar 2017 19:28:28
A much improved performance from can today hopefully he can take some confidence from that. now again don't get carried away it needs to be like this week in week out now if we play likr that and loose I can take that because everyone is giving there all.

Much improved but a heck of a long way to go to challenge for the league, a top 4 spot is doable though.

I wouldn't be surprised if ballet is Klopp's favourite form of dance. The players have to man up and show aggressiveness and grit in matches. Because Klopp does not yet have the players to execute his philosophy (no wingers. ), he should adapt and quickly.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

04 Mar 2017 17:41:09
Yeah, there's no way he is a fan of any of the manlier styles of dance. If he were, our team work be a lot more robust! 😳.

Question for Ed001, if he would have a rough idea.

The reason i started supporting Liverpool as a kid is because, before I was born, my dad was in a serious car accident, just before him and my mum were due to get married. Long story short, his story was featured in newspapers and a liverpool-supporting stranger was so moved by the story that he drove from Liverpool to Kilmarnock with a football signed by the entire 1977 European Cup Winning team. He showed me it when i was about 10, and it was the first bit of football memorabilia I had ever seen, and I was fascinated. From then on, I was red through and through.

Anyway, I hadn't seen it for years, and just assumed I had either imagined it, or it had been lost or damaged or something, but it turns out it's still safe and sound in my dad's possession, and will be passed to me when he dies. Now, i have NO intention of selling it, ever (for what it means to my dad, and as something i'll pass to my daughter, who i'm raising a red), but i've tried to have a look online to value it, and couldn't really find anything similar. Would you know how much something like that would be worth? It'll always have far more sentimental value than it would ever be worth in £, but I can't help being curious.

Cheers either way Ed.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - the only way something like that would ever be sold is via auctions. There is a database of auction prices, but you used to have to pay to access it, which would be the best way to get an idea. The best bet would be to speak to an auction house which have sports memorabilia sales, and ask for a valuation. Those kind of things are sold at specialist auctions, as that is how you get the best value for them.}

04 Mar 2017 17:07:04
Cheers Ed, much appreciated. No point in me looking into it through auction houses, as it'll never leave this family as long as I live and breathe, was just curious as the only things I found online were like replica shirts that were signed years after the event.

Just have to make sure I raise the girls right, and they hold on to it. it's as good a way as any to get later generations to be Liverpool fans!

Thanks again, appreciate you taking the time out to reply.

{Ed001's Note - things like that were very few and far between back then, so it would be worth more than a shirt or similar, I would think. My cousin works at an auction house in Liverpool, he might have an idea. I will ask him for you.}

04 Mar 2017 17:38:45
If it's easy enough for you Ed, that would be great, but don't go to any trouble. probably better if the kids don't know how much it's worth!

{Ed001's Note - I will text him after the match, if we win, if not it will have to wait a few days as he is a Toffee and I will get nothing but stick if I message him when we have lost.}

04 Mar 2017 19:54:09
I know the feeling Ed! Ironically my dad is a Toffee too (despite the whole story above! ) . If I ever miss a game for any reason, I know Liverpool have lost if I get a text from him around the final whistle.

But HEY! We won, so go revel in telling your cousin!

And thanks again man, that's well above-and-beyond.

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, good to have an excuse to talk to family.}

Would be interested in people's views of the leaders in our squad.

I'm not even referring to the footballing ability but actual leadership qualities. I've a grave concern that there's no real
Leader in that group and it manifests itself everytime we drop points against the so called lesser teams as there's nobody there to either be a calming and patient influence when we're playing against a parked bus or to give a proper bollocking to people if complacency is the issue.

As it stands the senior people like Lucas and Milner are good guys to have around the place and I've no doubt add a positive vibe to the group but they don't appear to be leaders.

Henderson does seem to try but I'm still not sold that he inspires those around him.

What's others view on this?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

04 Mar 2017 16:50:51
Sakho but he won't be playing for LFC again.

04 Mar 2017 16:55:39
Right if you where running in a straight line eithout any turn offs or other options but to go straight and there was a brick wall. Too higj to go over and to deep to dig under.

You then try to run at it. Nothing happens. You then run at it whilst screaming and acting all tough. Nothing happens. Do you continue like that for the bext 90 mins or look around for something different to hit it with.

The team try for 60 minutes with no luck. Its time to try a different apporach. Switch of formation or players. It won't make a difference having a real good leader on the pitcu screaming at everyone. How will that effect to opposition where trying to beat?

Point being its up to the coach to spend 60 minutes looking at this and finding weaknesses in the the oppostion and then make a change accordingly to give the team the best possible chance of victory.

You don't send someone into a gun fight with a spoon.

Klopp doesn't make changes until 80 minutes in and then its mostly like for like.

The best change we have made in a ling while and actual tactical sub was on monday.

Moreno pushed right out wide to occupy simpson and cout was moved into the middle and origi was dragging the cbs back with the fear of his pace. It didn't work but it gave us a goal.

That was the am who made it not klopp. I don't think he's got that. He does his way which is awesome and brilliant footy 70% its a solid setup but to win the leagues there has to be abother way. He has to find a way to win those games.

But be positive and pro active. 2-0 at half time requires a switch. 2-0 up at halftime requires a switch to protect the lead.

04 Mar 2017 17:03:27
I get what your saying but I think we need more winners than leaders, the type of players who show up every week and try to win at all costs, too many at Liverpool just think turning up against the lower teams is enough because they play for Liverpool, I know he's a bell and hate using him as an example but Suarez when he wasn't biting people would chuck everything he had at the opposition regardless of who they where, his work rate never dropped. You can't say that about many in our first 11 right now, when they do all put the effort in we are probably the best team in the league, we seem unstoppable, but when the players only show up against the top teams there is a big problem, I don't think any team in the EPL is weak enough to think you can coast your way through it.

I do, it's almost typical of Liverpool to demolish a top team after a horror show against a relegation threatened team.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

04 Mar 2017 16:23:12
Nah I feel like it will be a close game, narrow win either way or most likely a draw. We won't smash anyone without Henderson anchoring the midfield as we will most likely concede as well.

04 Mar 2017 16:56:08
Arsenals midfield isn't exactly brilliant though so hendos influence shouldn't be missed as much, who knows anyway, let's just hope the team shows up today.

04 Mar 2017 18:19:09
Demolished them in the first half anyway.

04 Mar 2017 20:14:00
I think if Wenger was to play against us like the bottom teams do he'd probably get the win, they just need to park the bus and catch us on the break, they have vastly better players to do this than the teams who've already beaten us this season.

04 Mar 2017 16:28:51
What you on about Math? .

04 Mar 2017 12:58:33
Hi, not sure which Ed it was, but I remember a few months back one of you spoke about Liverpool's lack of corporate social responsibility and how far behind Everton we are in terms of giving back etc. Sounds stupid but do you have any proof on the matter? I'm writing a final year piece on Liverpool and their need for regional sponsors and partners i. e charities and I think what you said would be a great fit I just need to reference it somehow! And I don't think "Ed said so" would go down well with my lecturer!

Cheers in advance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - proof? Surely your job is to do the research not mine? You can go find out exactly what they do for charity by a quick bit of reading on the two club's websites. How Everton do so much, while Liverpool do pretty much nothing, it is very easy to find out. I shouldn't even need to tell you this if you are in your final year, being honest.}

04 Mar 2017 13:41:36
Looks like Ed001 could start up a lucrative side-business writing dissertations for lazy students! 10p a word would be a good start, and an invite to your graduation if you have any cute girls in your year.

04 Mar 2017 15:50:17
Come on Ed, don't "good" students collect research from a wide range of sources? I've obviously checked the club websites etc. and done plenty of research myself including reading countless dull journals and I'm a few thousand words in on the topic however you seemed to be quite well informed on the subject so I thought I'd ask if there was anything you'd seen or heard of in particular that I could look into. Just asking for a bit of advice if you had any for me, not to write the thing.

{Ed001's Note - I put up a picture of a letter received by a friend from LFC when she asked for items to auction for charity. Man Utd sent a signed ball and other bits and pieces with certificates of authenticity, LFC said pee off. They support only their own foundation and nothing else. Everton give to all sorts of causes, just remember that little lad who was a Sunderland mascot. Plus they do a lot in the community. Liverpool, on the other hand, had to be publicly shamed just to stop them having the S*n in the ground!}

04 Mar 2017 16:10:21
Cheers Ed, I seemed to remember something about a letter, that's jogged my memory now, I'll have a look through the site and track it down, really good example of how other clubs are so far ahead of us! I find it disgusting how Everton, amongst a few others clubs, are just as focused on promoting and gaining exposure for their charities as they are for their big global partners, whereas all we seem to give a t**s about is Dunkin Donuts! Massive worry.

Thx Ed1. Do you think that tells us more about Sturridge or the club?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - depends on what you mean by that. Sturridge was not playing regularly before, so it is impossible to say whether he would have had the same problems had he been doing so.}

04 Mar 2017 10:18:25
I genuinely believe Klopp has given up on Sturridge. Klopp has been unable to integrate Sturridge into the team as Sturridge 99% of the time is not available for selection.

It is quite frustrating as Sturridge on his day is one of the most deadliest finishers. Saying that, Sturridge has been a shadow of the player who first joined the club, irrespective of his injuries.

04 Mar 2017 12:24:54
Hate to say it Sturridge should of been sold last year. Results cost BR his job but what also cost him is trusting Sturridge to be fit.

04 Mar 2017 15:44:24
Rodgers signed Benteke, that cost him him his job.

04 Mar 2017 08:56:46
Question for the Eds: Was Sturridge's injury record at Man City, Chelsea and on loan at Bolton as bad as it has been over 4 years at Liverpool? The stats I found online appear to suggest not but who knows, could be 'fake news'.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sturridge was never really injury prone before he signed for us.

Just before he signed for us he had meningitis though. I have no idea how serious it was but I know it can have lasting effects on your bodies ability to recover, cause permanently stiff joints, weakness/ paralysis/ spasms of the body and even lung damage (which would further slow down recovery of muscles as they need a good oxygen supply to break down lactic acid) .

I'm purely speculating but it is odd that his injury troubles have basically started at LFC.

With Can clearly not up to replacing Henderson, any chance we'll see a change in formation tonight, perhaps to accommodate Stewart?

You beat me to it Spud. Stewart has to be well in the reckoning for a start mate.

Our midfield is not the biggest problem.

Who Klopp selects tonight in the back four will be key. If our defence once again leaves us in a pickle then our attack will have to make sure that we score more goals than Arsenal to win the match.

Emre Can has got good energy which will be an asset against a team like Arsenal.

04 Mar 2017 08:53:10
Energy is fine . but he doesn't know how to play
He is not clever with his passing he just reminds
Me of a kid playing football on a concrete football pitch
Just running with the ball an there is no plan in his head.

For me he's one of the problems with verstatility.

Hes never been trained to master one position amd now he has having to scramble to learn one.

Lb, cb, cdm, cm and cam for us. Maybe even rb on occasion.

What always makes me laugj is managers use these players here and claim its because there great in any position but you wouldn't move any of your top players. you would bring a kid in.

Milner and can are alrigut players hence why they have never really held down a starting berth. Have high wages though so if there's gap in the team they tend to play first.

Totally agree on there being major issues with defence too. The thought of Sanchez against Lucas is terrifying!
Time to give Maris and Gomez a go? Or should we bring Klavan back? I'm torn. Heart says Gomez, head says Klavan.

I seen Emre Can dribble through 2-3 players. I seen him pick out a pin point long ball. I seen him play a lovely through ball for players to run onto. I seen him tackle and break up moves. I seen him smash one in top corner from the edge of the box. He will run for you all day. He rarely picks up injuries or needs resting.

This season it hasn't worked for him. His team mates are not making the runs for him. It's all too congested in the centre of the park. It's all about coaching, tactics and confidence.
Emre has the skills simple as that.

04 Mar 2017 12:00:45
Klopp will put the exact same team out tonight bar maybe Klavan in for Lucas, we just don't have the squad to handle injurys. On a lighter note i was reading the sports headlines as i was about to have my breakfast this morning it said " Liverpool are going to spend big in the summer" i nearly choked on my boiled egg with laughter. It's great to have a bit of humour to start the day.

04 Mar 2017 13:15:14
Klopp is stubborn, and I don't see too many changes for this game, only he has to rest Lucas unless Lovren is fit, I see Klavan coming in, as someone said, Sanchez V Lucas is a mistake about to happen .

Personally, against Arsenal I would play Can and Stewart holding. Coutinho behind Origi with Mane on the right and Gini on the left. Look to hit them on the break with the pace and power of Origi, Gini and Mane. Firmino and Lallana are not playing well lately even in the big games.

Why should they continue to get chance after chance? Stewart and Origi will give 100% no matter who they face. I also think playing a proper holding midfielder and a proper striker may improve help stop our rot. Having 10 outfield players free styling all over the pitch is only good when you're playing with confidence; which we obviously are not!

I think Klopp will go virtually unchanged though and we'll draw 2-2 against a dire Arsenal side we should be smashing all the way back to London.

Fans propose, Klopp disposes! Unchanged team!
