Thanks eds for putting up with the fans day in day out. I have only just seen motd. i was working and did not watch live as i have most games this season so i suppose blame me for the bad form. i whole hardheartedly tell u i am not watching another game live for a while i apologize. Just from the highlights it seemed when lucas came on gerrard came foward and was playing behind ballotelli and the attacking link up play was brilliant can rodgers see this. also well done adam lallana loving the skills and determination.

Putting up with us fans day in day out? Its not exactly a warzone. Although Ed002 seems to think we're all plonkers i'm sure ed001 enjoys it ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I wouldn't be so sure on that one!!}

I think pushing Gerrard forward confused West Brom. They probably was not expecting that and were not prepared to deal with Gerrard'd 1st time passes, 1-2's etc.

Gerrard once was the best ACM the club and country had. He should be played up there.

Bht would he accept to part time roles? ?
NO.

Gerrard was not just the best ACM we had but the best in world football.

A goal and 3 assists for Henderson this season. I do hope he is pushed further forward more often.

Happy days! A win is a win! Great to see Lallana and especially Henderson get the goals. More of the same please will do me. The performances will come.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Also a big up for Ken's lucky pants. Keep them on Ken! You know it makes sense.

Agree2 Disagree1

Needed the win, BIG TIME but we ar by no means out of the woods yet. This team is still in recovery and has its issues BUT the win allows BR and the players some breathing room to work on theses issues (lack of confidence, poor decision making in both boxes, lack of a cutting edge upfront and defensive miscues). As for individuals, Lallana continues to impress me w/ his skills, movemement, comitment and guile while taking his goal very well. Hendo`s becoming a leader and his passion is infectuous. Balo and GJ gave us a spark when they came on and Migs had a good game for once. All in all, I was ostly impressed w/ the way the whole team fought and battled TOGETHER as ateam which shows their level of character. We take the win, we work on our issues and onward to the next game. YNWA!

Much needed win for BR & the team today. Glad to see him drop Balotelli, although not sure through fitness or form, guess Jones will have to wait his turn lol!!

Better today from the lads, the result is what matters. Decent performace, I think at times we showed glimpses of our former selves with crisp passing, having said that there were also times where we looked very lacklustre. Great performances in particular by Hendo and Lallana, and Stevie didn't have a bad game either. Sturridge, Can and Allen coming back can only be a bonus, and hopefully they're joined after the international break by Victor Valdes. Also, did anybody else enjoy watching Gerrard in that more advanced role? He seemed to give us a lot more fluency going forward when he played a more free role, which is good to see. Hopefully this will kickstart our season.

Lallana looking impressive, lovren didn't play well today, skretel better than wednesday, but defence still shaky. Hopeing sturridge is fit for qpr.

Rodgers comments again after the game poor. Suarez mentioned along with future squad rotation. Play your best 11 and rotate through injuries and tiredness. How can players gain.form and confidence constantlybeing rotated help. The.likes of skittles and Gerrard will not be rotated no doubht. He already has issues with a few players. Excuses everywere for our form bar his poor decisions and selections. His suarez comment was cryptic too . "we are missing a worldclass striker". I hope he isn't referring to wanting another 40million player. He has spent 120 million and is still talking about suarez. i'm looking at a manager who can't see his own mistakes and i'm looking at a defense and goalkeeper thãt is mis table standard. It was a decent performance and a good win for some confidence but I have no idea what direction we are.going in with Rodgers. Susp, texeira ibe, kelly wernt.given a.chance. Loaned or sold and by his past record any.player loaned.out has never returned. Disillusioned

Believable0 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - he was talking about Sturridge being out.}

Edd001, maybe mate but he mentioned Suarez and time to adjust. Thãt to me is an excuse. His ssn interview earlier todây was worrying. It was almost as if he was chatting as if he wasnt the manager but an onlooker. How can you.justify saying "i and the fans can't understand" when referring to our form? he's paid to get results but also when losing hold his hands up. He has yet to do the latter and the worrying thing is im.not so confident he's aware of his mistakes. Look if he admitted thãt he got a few things wrong i'd be far more supportive but I really don't believe he will be our manager in the distant future, far too many mistakes and money spent and we have.no solid defense or goalkeeper to work as a foundation.
Edd001, I enjoy your posts mate but Rodgers for me doesn't convince me anymore

Agree1 Disagree6

I appreciate your views Al but I don't think it's him not realising his mistakes. Rodgers is a very positive manager. He's all about getting the best out of his players and giving them as much confidence as possible. I think he does notice his mistakes, but he's not going to criticise the team in public is he? As a motivator and great man manager, he is more than likely going to give the players the utmost confidence. He always manages to find positives from games, but believe me he notices the negatives. But that's something more likely to be discussed on the training ground with constructive criticism, rather than the hairdryer treatment in front of the media. If he publicly criticises them, its going to hamper their confidence, leading to more mistakes. Lovren at Southampton was incredible, and from a young age was tipped to be a future star. Rodgers wasn't to know he would struggle at Liverpool. With Mignolet he notices he is slacking, hence his attempts to sign a keeper, and if reports are to be believed, Valdes will be joining us after the international break. That's my views on the whole thing anyway, may not be 100% correct but it's my thinking behind it!
Cheers,

i am critical when we lose so i praise when we win, well done lads you all worked very hard, scoring that first goal is so important, and makes the opposition have to come out and leave space, Balo worked a lot harder today, he looked angry and had a mission, if that's what it takes to get that determined effort then drop him every time his standard drops, we played some good passing out of defense as well, again well done, useful 3 points let's see if we can keep doing it.

I thought Lambert played better today but was still well below what we need, not sure what's wrong with him, too anxious maybe? and we should drop Mario more he looked like he wanted to prove something to somebody can't think who?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

05 Oct 2014 09:15:25
Never stops trying and perhaps still anxious, but does seem to have lost pace from last year and quite sluggish - not that I'm saying he was ever quick.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lambo was never quick and unfortunately, that is becoming his downfall because even tho he gives effort all the time, his speed of execution is too slow for the high-energy, speed-of-thought and pressing game we play. On a few occassions in the game, it took him too long to get his shots away, sort his feet out and his decision making was slow. However, he gives effort and I hope w/ more time and training, he will improve.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - excellent goal from Lallana, good performance from him in general, he is starting to look better by the game. Who is Higgins?}

Hey eds,

After watching the match I have to commend BR on the way he freed up gerrard in the half. It's been very obvious that our midfield has no real threat when gerrard is being man marked as the other midfielders don't have the nescasariy quality to use that to their advantage. But gerrard was quality today especially the second half and this should be deployed more often as he connected brilliantly with Balo. Balo when he came on looked hungry and was willing to fight for the cause so hopefully today was a kick up the backside somewhat, because it's clear he will score if he really wants to. The win is the main thing even though it was a typical nervy game, we could still have scored more and should have.

The worst thing is, we can't use this momentum because we have international break which every time has affected us. We never get a good start after the internationals. However it will be a good time to let the injured players make a full recovery and get the team back fighting for 4th. We still have our best player to come back. My tone would be different if we had lost or Drew but can you blame me after the start.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

04 Oct 2014 18:30:58
Pretty much what I've been saying since Gerrard's legs were an issue for discussion: he should be moved up the pitch rather than dropped deeper.

That being said, he played 65 minutes in a deep role and only 25 behind Balotelli. And with Coutinho, Henderson and potentially Lallana (if he isn't on the wing) competing for the attacking midfielder role, I still expect to see Gerrard deployed as a DM more often than not.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Oct 2014 17:36:40
Well that's what i've been talking about. Without Sturridge it's always going to be difficult because Lambert and Balotelli are different types of players, but what a difference it made playing Lambert over Balotelli. He is a proper team player and he showed that for Lallana's goal.

It was also great to see Henderson playing further up the pitch. We have all been crying out for this and the reward was maximum points. I suggested the other day (on the teams page) that Coutinho could be played along side Gerrard to allow Henderson to play further up the pitch. Luckily BR must have read my post ;) and I thought Philippe did really well today in that deeper role.

Finally, Lallana is proving to be quite a player and he will get goals for us playing in the Suarez role rather than a midfield role. He was again outstanding for us today.

Oh and a special mention for Ken and his pants. They were instrumental for us today.

Red Rum

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Coutinho wad awful today . Was I watching the wrong game or something ? He does not have the legs or defensive ability to play that role next to Gerrard. Every occasion he got the ball it was played back or to the side . We should not need to be worrying about players to cover Gerrard . Have Gerrard as most attacking mid with Henderson and Allen when fit behind him.

Agree5 Disagree9

Coutinho did a decent job in midfield today, he played his passes well and kept possession. That was his role and he did fine. It is the same role Allen would play when fit. He isn't the best defensively but keeps possession and moves the ball on well. That allowed Henderson to push further forward and he got the winner from it. What more do you want?

I've been a bit critical of Balotelli, so fair dues as thought he played well after he came on.

Love seeing Henderson further forward. Can we please do that from now on? He's so much more influential on the game than playing deeper.

Also love seeing Gerrard further forward at the end of the game. He's one of the best passers we have and I'd much prefer to see him up there, even if it's for more limited minutes.

Lallana is pure class. He and Henderson link up very well.

Overall, thought we played well and 3 badly needed points.

Thoughts on today's match:

1. The second half was much better than the first half. In the first half, we lacked movement from the Lambert and there were no midfield runners. This limited our passing options and so we had to slow down our play and I feel this contributed to a low key first half. However, there was a lot more movement in the second half and it showed, since we looked a lot more dangerous every time we attacked.

2. Glad to see BR moving Gerrard up to the attacking midfielder position when Lucas came on. He made a lot of good passes and his class showed (backheel to Balotelli was especially beautiful) and it really is his best position. BR needs to play him there more frequently.

3. I think starting Lambert kinda fired Balo up or maybe it's just him gelling with the lads. Better movement and increasingly decent work rate are good signs.

4. I was really against Lallana's signing during the summer not because of Lallana, but because of the price tag. However, if he continues improving his good form, he might just prove to be the difference between 5th and 4th place. Then, his price tag of 25 million pounds will be justified in my opinion.

5. Lovren really needs to find more consistency. Sure it wasn't a penalty, but I felt he fluctuated between Liverpool quality and his Lyon form quite a bit.

6. Lastly, I hope this isn't a false dawn like Tottenham (or even Everton to the optimistic). Hope BR really builds upon this match because we can win our next few matches quite easily and when our confidence is back, we can really become quite a force like last season.

Ouffff! Thank god we won and what a relief this victory will give our players and fans. A big thank to Adam and Jordan and what a player Lallana is becoming for us. We all hope Sturridge and Allen will play against QPR and we will be back where we should be.

We dug in and got the result, especially after that ludicrous penalty decision.
Exactly what we needed.
If we'd held on last weekend we'd be sitting third.
We will build on this and we will be challenging.
We've got too may good players not too.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

That ludicrous decision could have cost us 2 points! another poor ref! who will walk away, i bet he won't admit his mistake, it will take a lot to convince me we should not use instant replay, i have been to Rugby games and it takes seconds and is no big deal, about time we joined the high tech world.

I think what has been learned from this game is that Lucas must be played every game. He has such a presence in the midfield and allows Gerrard and Henderson to go forward. He also allows us to press the opposition more. Great player, must be played

Believable5 Unbelievable9

Would love to see Gerrard in the forward role more. He seems the only player (other than Lallana) who even looks forward during an attack.

Agree2 Disagree1

But also that Lambert shouldn't start and for me also not coming from the bench. He clearly is in some kind of shock and just cannot handle the pressure. I think he was really poor today. Even if he will improve, the decision to play him as a sole forward is strange because he cannot create goals by himself. The only good thing he did was avoiding hiting Henderson's ball for the goal as he was offside. BR's decision to start with him alone in front looked strange to me befre the game and look like that now. But well done for the guys for the win and let's hope with Sturridge we look better going forward.

Agree2 Disagree2

Gerrard looked absolutely brilliant in the last 20 mins or so playing further forward. Just imagine how much better he would be if brought on as a super sub in the last 35-40 to play of the CF. Hope BR takes note. Some of Stevie's link up play with Balo was a treat to watch.

Agree3 Disagree0

Lambert played up front on his own for Southampton and scored plenty mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mr. T He may have done the work for the Saint but maybe playing for Liverpool puts a lot of pressure on him. I don't know. I just think he is not the solution to our problems going forward, sorry. On the other hand have to say Henderson and Lallana were really good today. Very encouraging from them.

I was thinking 2day I would prefer suso to get a game over coutinho as I think he is a better player and coutinho has been out of form. I was wondering who you guys think is the better player suso or coutinho?

Suso is out for a few months with a.groin injury. Huge shame

Agree2 Disagree1

04 Oct 2014 17:51:09
Coutinho has more to his game than suso and has more potential, but
What suso does well he does very well. His passing is emaculate and he can only get better with vision, also he's added scoring to his game which none of our midfielders have been able to do really up until today. I don't think suso should replace coutinho but he should
Be given a fair chance and he hasn't been given that at all. Maybe it's his work rate or ego

Coutinho was told to sit deeper, this freed up Hendo to do his pressing and get further up the pitch and allowed coutinho to pick up the ball from deep and make things happen

Believable7 Unbelievable1

Not fit enough to start

Agree0 Disagree0

It's alright, he's at Sub-way looking for a foot long something

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair I think Johnson was very composed when he came on I actually think he helped see the game out although when I watched the sub taking place a did start cringing a bit!

Agree2 Disagree0

If he plays like he played today, then he should start next game ahead of Manquillo.

Agree2 Disagree0

Agreed S7, he made a difference when he came on. He looked composed and brought a bit of extra solidity.

In a game like that when the tension and anxiety is palpable you need experience, especially in defence.

Agree0 Disagree0

My comment was in respect to the alleged clause in his contract which says he has to play.

There is a definite sense of humour fail on this site.

Actually thought we saw the old Johnson today. He was up for it. Made a big difference in the second half.

I hope we win today. I am seriously struggling to read this site at the moment with all the whining. Come on guys, there are ups and downs. Calm down, when i read Harry's posts i feel like ''All by myself'' should be playing in the background.

Forget sacking Rogers - Gerrard is almost done - he deserves to play in the twilight. He will be gone soon enough.

When were doing well everyone will remember who kept their heads and remained sensible and who turned into whiny little people.

Come on Reds YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable3

Just here to point out that BR does not seem to have noticed Gerrard's decline and has stated that he'll be sorting a new contract for him.

So it's a bit difficult to take your comments too seriously. You need to reassess the situation and try to be more of a realist this time. Misplaced optimism is no solution to anything.

tbh, I'd rather listen to complainers who at least pay attention to what's going on at the club.

Agree4 Disagree0

It hurts us all when we lose but when these new players click then we have a great squad for years. I'd take the pain now rather than spending big on older established players. Look at UTD. They buy players in their peak but then they decline very quickly (RVP purchased at 29, Falcao, Matta) Money down the drain.

I believe in this squad. They will come good.

Agree0 Disagree1

With so many young players Gerrard is more than just a player. He is a captain, an inspiration. He adds not just tangible but also intangible value to the squad. Footballers are human beings after all, this is not FIFA.

Anyway it's very boring reading people's tantrums that's all. If we play poorly everyone hurts and everyone can see how bad it was. We don't have to read whiny little essays. take it on the chin.

hey eds, just curious if you know where all these supposed interviews BR is giving, which looks to be about 2 per day are coming from? Usually is from the official website or from his press conference, but does he give many interviews to Newspapers, i know the Liverpool Echo get a few sometimes, but what worries me is that Sly Sports don't seem to quote where he is saying these personic things, which leads me to believe he isn't really saying them, for instance the last 3 "interviews" he gave was that was a risk to buy Ballotelli, that we are back in a transition period and now today for the fans to expect the bad times to continue. I know he talks too much sometimes, but he can't be that stupid to say things as this can he? Or is it newpapers trying to create stories again and cause unrest in the Liverpool camp?
On a side note, I think we will come good, I don't see it being all doom and gloom, I think Joe Allen is a big big loss when he doesn't play as he never stops running and does the running that Gerrard can't do now.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Nobody is making it up, everything is coming from interviews he gives.}

Today, as I was saying yesterday, I hope we get to see Jones, Lucas and (if Sturridge is still out) Lambert starting the match with Balotelli, Gerrard and Mignolet dropped to the bench.

I think these 3 would freshen up the team and come in with the passion and will to do well and take their chance.

Anyway, I'm going for a 3-1 win today with Lallana and Lambert getting off the mark. I must say I feel much more confident knowing that Ken's pants will be with the boys today, they have been greatly missed.

It seems Gerrard and Migs will start, but it's great to see Lambert back in. He is a team player and will create chances if he stays central and doesn't drift out wide.

I hope Henderson will have a chance to play a more advanced role too, but with Gerrard starting I expect him to play a more reserved central midfield role.

I do think we can do well if we go for it today. I won't be happy if we start slow and concede the first goal.

So Brendan's come out and said the reason for the poor start to the season is down to Suarez leaving. very very lame excuse that Brendan.

Far to easy to blame Suarez especially after spending £120 million in the summer on players Brendan said are players that would walk into his first eleven.

The problem remains with Brendan's tinkering with the team, even he doesn't know now what his best 11 is?

Conceding 50 goals last season was bad enough but without Brendan buying a top keeper in the summer to challenge Mingolet I think we will continue to concede goals.

How can Brendan be allowed to spend £16 million on Sakho in January and £20 million on Lovren in the summer then not pair them together as the clubs first choice centre backs?

Instead he keeps going back to using Skrtle whose form over the last 18 months has been shocking!!

Transition period my arse Brendan you need to look in the mirror mate!

Believable3 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I have explained on several occasions that Lovren will be first choice LCB and Sakho second choice. From my perspective the problem here is that he has spent just under £39M on transfer fees for these two players where he could have pushed for a deal for Lovren last season for a little under £9M. Whichever way you look at it, and given the surplus of CBs at the club last season, it seems very, very poor financial management. That plus more than £22M spent on Aspas, Iloro and Alberto would mean a significant cut in the club debt and a much better position going forward for the club.

I appreciate people have not been happy when I have tried to explain that whilst I like Rodgers as a man, he is looking out of his depth and embarrassing himself and the club with his dealings with the media. We are now seeing Rodgers getting in to more trouble as his statements are going well beyond what is the norm. Talking about Origi and saying he will be "world class" will come back to haunt him next year. But I can put that down to simple stupidity on Rodgers behalf. Using the "T" word was always going to happen - talking of "intensity" and "gel" simply had the media sniggering. Like his comparisons to the business world and the Tom Peters audio books, we can put this down to naivety rather than stupidity. Statements regarding the team not performing until the second part of the season will have the owners out of their seats - stupidity again. Making public statements about players not being first choice, not performing etc. should not be made my managers. Those things are to be kept private and perhaps not even said at all. The result is some very public spats with ex-players like Agger and Johnson. He seems to be lining up the same with Kirikou (who is now living in his house). I suspect Suso will have something to say going forward. This is all the result of absolute crass stupidity from Rodgers - nothing more, nothing less.}

Don't understand how we can lose Suarez but not tinker with the team?

So we play with 10 men then?

Agree1 Disagree2

While the faults with BR remain, I think the problem with regards to Suarez was always going to happen. What disappoints me is that the Transfer Committee or whoever is buying players, had a known for a long time that Suarez was going to leave and never really looked for an adequate replacement. The problem is then compounded by the manager coming out and saying things about Balotelli.

All the analysing makes me laugh. We sold the best player in the world and didn't replace him, simple as that. We've done a Spurs

Rodgers interview in ssn is very worrying, he takes no blame, "can't understand like the fans" and makes injurys as an excuse
Some should take a read. he's staying he can't see the problems most fans see and telling the media he appears clueless. Bewildering manager atm

Back to the diamond today hopefully ! Quick attacking football, high pressing and Mario running into the channels just like Suarez last year and not coming too deep shooting from half a mile away from the goal ! Do it Mario, Sterling and coutinho will find you

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That's not Mario's game. He will never be that kind of player.

Poor Mario cannot win either way. He was told in no uncertain terms that he has to run back to help in defence. Now he is being criticised for being miles away. He has no service as our esteemed manager is clueless. Balo is an extremely talented player but he is not Suarez. And the further worry is that BR is indicating that Sturridge will turn things around. I personally do not believe it because I dlieve that Suarez's assists made him look better than he is. I am dreadi ngour future.

Agree0 Disagree1

Theres always training him to play that game. I mean players have had to change their game after moving clubs and how much less goals could he score trying to play that game

Remember everyone today is positivity day as requested by Aguero . We will win by a 5 goal margin at least

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Nice one Roy, get the ball rolling.

The lucky pants are on!

I think the lads are going to be like caged tigers in the dressing room today. They've taken some deserved criticism from the captain questioning their commitment.

We have the quality in the squad to turn it around. WBA are no better than decent. We will go at them full tilt from kick off, the crowd will get behind the lads and confidence will return.

No score predictions from me, just a return to last season's verve and 100% commitment.

COME ON YOU REDS!

At the end of the day only a good performance, and more importantly a WIN, will set the tone for positivity. Even the most ardent fan knows this.

Can anyone tell me why the kop sounds like it's at a funeral ?? Just last year even watching it at home you could feel the atmosphere bubbling round the ground now it's like where in mourning for last year

Im going for Skrtel to get a hat trick today! Liverpool 0- West Brom 3! :-/

Nice one Irish Rover.

If we can't get behind the team on match day it's a sad state of affairs.

If true Mario has worked very hard but it just hasn't clicked so no harm maybe to give RL a start.
Best of luck RL

{Ed001's Note - he is a young coach making mistakes, the problem is that we are not a place for a young coach to learn his trade. He needs to go back to what worked last season, press high and force the game onto the opposition, rather than sitting back and letting it be forced onto us. He needs to shut up and stop talking so much, just have prepared words and no more, to give the media, instead of the bilge he keeps spewing. Most of all though, he needs to be a coach and not a manager, he is clearly no manager. He might well become one, but I just can't see it happening. Oh and stop using a back 3, we don't have the players to suit it, and most of all, stop looking to add players we don't need and alienate the youngsters in doing so. And Brendan, please, please, please just give Suso a chance.}

BEST THING YOU HAVE SAID in a long time Bruv!!

Believable4 Unbelievable0

All 100 % true couldn't have put it better only other thing to add is couthinio should not be a starter

Agree1 Disagree3

I will cringe if we go with two holding midfielders and one upfront today. WBA will be licking their lips when looking at the rubbish that has been served up of late.

Hopefully Rodgers has now finally realised that whatever he is trying to achieve with the change of system has gone horribly wrong and will not work and hopefully reverts back to the system of pressing, fluidity and relentless attacking football of last season. Fingers crossed.

{Ed002's Note - You might want to go to the Teams and Formations page to share what you do think would work today.}

Someone has to tell me how is he a world class manager.
200 mill 20 players.
No SAS. back to square 1.
2.5 years and close to 50 mill on defense. Still goals flowing thick and thin.
From challenging to title to Transition

Give Suarez and Sturridge to Hodgson, He would take it to top 4.

You should write to BR ed001

{Ed001's Note - like he would listen! He is a stubborn man, hence why he keeps reverting to his original system, despite the constant failures it has produced.}
