henderson allowed back to liverpool as he done so well for england.with adam suffering a hip injury henderson should get his place with bellamy taking hendersons.possible team:

-----------------reina-----------------
-flanagan-carragher-agger-enrique---
-----------lucas-henderson-------
bellamy--------kuyt-------downing-------
---------------suarez----------------
bench:doni/skrtel/coates/robinson/maxi/spearing/carroll

Can't see Henderson playing DM and can't see Bellamy playing wide right

Chris in Tamworth

Lucas will sit hendo will move forward as does adam.maybe kuyt on right instead on bellamy but all will play

Hendo is a cm people, realize that so that is the place for him and swap bellamy with downing.

I don't post much. but all the talk about the team is great, will it be 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 will carroll play or Suarez. I think kenny will rotate so no first 11. And I agree with another poster that bellamy will keep Carroll out of the team. I'm looking fowerd to this season I believe we can win the leauge. So happy to be talking about football again. I like transfers but reading all your post about team is much better. thanks ed YNWA

How many times do you need to be told?? ALL Liverpool teams from 1st yr kids to first team play 4-2-3-1.

ED WHY CARNT I POST COMMENTS ANYMORE, I CARNT EVEN VOTE? {Ed009's Note - Here's a comment.}

Charlie Adam out of Scotland game with Lithuania. Out if Stoke game too? Hope not.

Or is it a clever move by Kenny?

How long will it take to find out how long charlie adam will be ruled out for this is why I hatee international matches and before thae doommongers start saying knew we shouldnt have sold raul hopefully adam,s injury aint to serious but I think we have good cover move hendo into centre play bellmy on the right or bellaamy upfront an kuyt on right I do hope charlie aint serious tho just when he wass starting to find his feet at our club hope we find out the extent of his injury soon

Charlie Adam injured and out for next international, I hope he's fit for Stoke.

Wenger rounded this international clap trap up in a nutshell.

"Its like lending somebody a Rolls Royce and that person returning it with scratches, with no fuel but then asking to borrow it a week later".

You've got to love Wenger; brilliant summary.

Brilliant words by Wenger. Just appreciate, that.

Hi all!
Here's my translation of wat meireles meant when he said 'it wasn't bcos of money, I will explain v soon'.

Translated-'yes, it was bcos of money, but I need more time to come up with a fairytale about how it wasn't about money'.

Raul was a useful player for us last year and if he had stayed, may well have made contributions to watever success we have this season.

But he chose to leave. Via a deadline day transfer request, no less.

I appreciate wat he did while a Red and I wish him all the best (except when we'r playing chelsea), but watever 'reasons' he may give for leaving, the fact is he din wana play for Liverpool. The transfer request says that much.

No hard feelings, but no love lost.

I look forward to finishing above chelsea this season.

Come to think of it, I hope we finish above everybody else. Haha

Ps- it's 330am rte now in Singapore... Yawn, but YNWA. Haha

Ed 09

I posted last week my concern at the postive views of fans to the hoax news that Zarate was signing. These posts which mentioned a well documented incident involving Zarate(which I felt made him a totally inapproriate man to wear the red shirt) were never put up. I have previously written in to point out some of Alberto Aqualinis well documented views and again these were not posted. So just wanted to know are these topics off line?

DONT BUY THE SUN {Ed001's Note - yes, they are not relevant.}

Ok take your point but as a club I think LFC should have higher standards in terms of playing staff. And I cant imagine for one second that Shankly would of had either anywhere near the club regardless of talent or ability.

DONT BUY THE SUN

I know what you are talking about and I posted about it in a reply and it got put up.

Hi Ed,

I have recently been told that Fernando Torres is trying to sort out a move back to Spain for next season. He supposedly told some of his friends at LFC that CFC move was the "worst decision of his life"

And then I called a friend who knows, Óscar Campillo, who is the main Editor for Marca, and he says that Jose Antonio Martin has been in contact with Atletico Madrid, Malaga, Barcelona and some Italian clubs are expressing interest also.

I was just wondering have you heard anything such as this? Or what, realistically are the chances that at this early stage in the season, Torres wants out already?!

5o's {Ed001's Note - *sighs* nothing, nor do I feel the need to obsess over what he does.}

He isn't our concern

This should be on the Chelsea page

The only bit I care about is him playing in this country. The move to Spain will make it better for everyone. He is a disliked man, I want to see him fail.

5o's

How does Torres news get on this page? Am I mistaken or does he not play for Chavski? If you love him so much, change the team that you support.

04 Sep 2011 20:43:08
Can anyone tell me what the hell Raul is on about with his statement of "its not the money why I moved, I will explain later"
Would love to know who he's digging at
Can you spread any light ed ? Macca ? Anyone ?
LFC1

Prob a bee in his bonnet cause Kenny didnt rate him to be good enough as a starter for LFC (and no pay rise). I am sure there was more to the salute he gave in the last game - which looked to me it was at the bench - rather than for the Frimpong incident as suggested. Sure it will come out in time.

Fensh

Didnt Torres say the same thing when he left? Bulls**t, greedy barstewards! They will regret it for the rest of their lives selling their soul to the Russian gangster

I wanted to pay a bit of respect to Bellamy. Firstly,
I've been one of his biggest critics, his attitude has
been awful sometimes when he played for us last time.
I have been very concerned about his attitude in the dressing room and generally in any team he plays for. But I do feel
100% sure Dalglish want stand for any negative attitude in the
squad. I salute Bellamy because he came to us, not guaranteed a first team place, where as QPR, Spuds, Cardiff have all offered him first place lineup. It seems to me he wants to come to us and fight for the just cause and I think he is going to score goals for us like Aldrige did.

Come on Craig!
Red Ace

I've got to agree and I think he'll keep andy carroll on the bench in alot of games can't wait to see him and suarez together i can see them striking up a good partnership.

Hello one and all!
I haven't posted since tuesday so I missed all the excitement of deadline day (Jim White fever) with you all, however, now that's all done and dusted, I'd like to just go through my thoughts on Jamie Carragher.

JC has been an absolutely phenomenal player for us over the years and he will undoubtedly go down as a Liverpool great, and most certainly a Liverpool Legend. However, with the acquisition of Seb Coates (I finally found out how to pronounce his name, GET IN!) I feel his starting XI place is now under threat more than ever, as I feel he should now be demoted to the bench over the coming weeks/months. On the other hand, I would hate to rush Coates into the premier league, because our league is definitely, the best in the world, and very few players have been able to adjust to it quickly, I.e Suarez. So in my opinion, Coates and Wilson should be partnered together in our next Carling Cup game against Brighton.

Brighton at their new stadium is a very, very bad draw for anyone to get, because Brighton are truly turning their new stadium into a fortress, which, I give them full credit for! However, I feel some of the younger players should get a run out, I.e The mighty Raheem, and Adam Morgan. I'm not saying they should start, I'm saying they should at least be on the bench to experience the occasion.

In my opinion, I think Liverpool's ambition this season should to finish in the top 4, and also win at least one (if not both) cups, because we are more than capable of achieving that.

Nice to see some of the regulars just on banter, and to see less of the anon b/s.

Thanks once again for all your time Eds and Macca, and I'm truly glad this site is on here 365 days a year, as it is truly a wonderful site.

Thanks all,
YNWA

Hooch.

Once Carra starts to to underferform , then you may have a case. until then.......sssssshhhhhhhhh.

I think carraghers main problem has been a lack of a settled defence around him. our defence hasnt been consistent since hyyppia and finnan were there, until now hopefully, so he's constantly trying to keep his defence co-ordinated and together because they're changing often, so hes not 100 percent concentrated on the job. hes been a great servant, and a good ambassador for LFC, and will be for another couple of seasons im sure, even if he's not a first teamer Dar

04 Sep 2011 19:29:50
when gerrards back i think best team will be a 4-5-1
Reina
Johnson Carra Agger Enrique
Gerrard Adam
Henderson Suarez Downing
Carroll
Reserve Team
Doni
Kelly Coates Skrtel Robinson
Lucas Spearing
Shelvey
Bellamy Kuyt Maxi

You can't drop Lucas, he's one of our most influential players. It's more likely Henderson that makes way for Gerrard. I'm delighted that we can make two strong starting 11's now.

Can't wait for Stoke next week, I think our bench will have a big part to play. Hopefully Suarez and Kuyt to start with Henderson, Kuyt and Maxi coming of the bench.

Papa G

I think Kenny is thinking:

Reina
Johnson Carra Agger Enrique
Gerrard Lucas Adam Downing
Suarez Carroll

Although I would like to see:

Reina
Johnson Carra Agger Enrique
Gerrard Lucas Adam
Bellamy Suarez Downing

or

Reina
Johnson Carra Agger Enrique
Lucas Adam
Bellamy Gerrard Downing
Suarez

Fensh

Is that not a bit much to ask Kuyt to start and also to come off the bench too? I know he can run all day.......

Reina
Johnson Carra Agger Enrique
Lucas,,,,Adam
Bellamy Gerrard Downing
Suarez

bench from; doni, kelly, skrtel, coates, aurelio, spearing, henderson, maxi, kuyt, carroll
what a teaaam

Reina
Kelly Carragher Agger Enrique
Bellamy/Kuyt/Johnson Gerrard Adam Downing
Suarez Carroll
Subs: Doni, (2 non starting right-minds), skrtel, lucas, spearing, aurellio

SL

To the original poster. I don't agree with Gerrard sitting deep in the Lucas role. That is a tackler's position breaking down the opposition"s attacks. Adam is only sitting deep because of the accuracy of his long ball, so he iseffectively attacking from a deep lying position. IMO Gerrard's best position is behind the striker where he has time to pick his shots.
SLODGE

Are you saying that Johnson should be playing in the Lucas role? Or are you saying he should be playing wide on the right?
SLODGE

Lucas is a vital part of our team. He's been very good so far. Hope, he can keep on improving. Keep it up, Lucas. YNWA

Having been to every game this season and watchin his performance for England I am delighted we signed Downing, Good mix of experience and talent in one player.
On wingers also like to say good luck to Steed Malbranque, who always seemed to have a decent game against us, hope you get the result your hoping for soon lad.

ed/eds,what would be your current strongest reds 11,and then bench,of those available? {Ed009's Note -
Without injury and with all signings bedded in:
Reina; Kelly, Agger, Coates, Enrique; Adam, Lucas; Henderson, Gerrard, Downing; Suarez.
As it stands:
Reina; Flanagan, Agger, Skrtel, Enrique; Adam, Lucas; Bellamy, Henderson, Downing; Suarez. You could perhaps swap Bellamy for Kuyt if the former is not yet a real member of the team.}

I agree with ed009, especially with kelly as rb... kelly has been excellent on rb, very very good. no wonder kenny likes him. defensively, very good, offensively, decent. not to say that he is better than glenn johnson, but sometimes he does look like he is. both are good rb's anyway but glenn johnson is obviously better going forward.

Kaizer

Just 1 small point ed and kaizer, where would downing be, in my eyes hes been outstanding in every game, along with saurez an enrique our best players so far..

Just seen your reply NI Red. Ye Sergio does do and is a hell of a player but i think if you put Lucas in Barcelona's team and Busquets in our's i think Lucas would be able to fit into their system more them Busquets would fit into our's. Just my opinion mate like yours which i fully respect mate. Jonson6

ed talking to someone today he thinks that liverpool owners will break even by the end of the year ie will not have spent any money i tried to work it out he seems right when you consider the savings on the wages and that am sure someone will break it down and do the sums

Someone already did. there was huge post the other day on here that gave a rough estimate that we were minus 1million when wages etc were taken into consideration. I can't vouch for the validity of the argument or figures but even if its a few mill out either way, overall it seems we havent actually spent that much yet. FSG are running a tight ship and should the Fair Play rules actually turn out mean something and clubs are forced to abide it seems we will be quids in and way ahead of the game. Proper owners at long last ;)

If it's true then it's a good thing, any well run business isn't in debt, and accounts are properly managed, ensuring future profits and success, they've turned around a dismal situation in less than 12 months

Just two add my penny's worth to the Carra mistake against Bolton. For once he did suffer from the team that was so confident that was too clever for his own good Reina's blood pressure. He should have either cleared it right footed,or brought it down with his right foot then got shut. If he'd of been skinned for pace with a ball over the top then i'd be worrying. But i bet a pound to a penny that he'll never do that again, try bringing a ball down with the outside of his weaker foot. You're never old to learn and when Carra next's sticks into the stands,i for one wont be moaning about him doing it.Re Coates, if he's good enough he's young enough. No matter who's place he takes but obviously Carra will be the man most under pressure if the young man(sound like Ray Wilkins now) Coates performs to the level or near to what he's capable of when he does get his chance. Competition for places never did any team any harm, makes us stronger on one can rest on their laurels anymore. At last we've got it a squad instead of just having a good starting 11 then a bench not worthy of playing for Liverpool. Last thing, before the under 21's,were Flanno had a superb debut. I thought Skertel was a shoe in a right back at Stoke the way he took to the role so easily against Bolton and how well he did on the ball and was more then happy to cross the half way line with or without the ball when attacking. Still think he'll play for his performance but again, its great that we've got such a strong squad that were all guessing and dont know who's playing but the position their playing in for the first time in a long time. Jonson6

Agree mate, i think skittle did well at right back. it is nice to competition for places although would of liked to see raul fight a bit more than take the easy way out - but what can you do eh?

With talk of stadiums on the up there is always that dreaded word thrown in there "groundshare" the very sound of the word makes most fans angry with pride but for those who (if there is any) who believe it could be a posibility here are the problems

1) FANS - Liverpool and Everton are religous enemys in Liverpool its like protestants and Catholics sharing a church its just not done and I don't want the same place of worship as the fans of that average squad Everton

2 - MONEY - Could Everton afford 10% of a stadium never mind half as they are currently failing to sell there club so with there financial future uncertain it wouldn't be good buisness on there part

3 - RELEGATION - Selling there best player and only affording to take on loans reeks of a club thats getting worse and with there bacon only being saved from the frying pan by a stint of good form near the end of last season they are serious title contenders in my eyes. -Mc

I'm not for ground share but when you mention catholic and protestants then your talking a lot of crap! I've been supporting the reds all me life and that never came into the aquation. Liverpool has always been mixed and remember red and blues going to finals hand in hand only since the ban has relationship has been tempered but don't give me that crap about religion!

Anyone watching the hurling ?
Tommy Walshe would be a great right fullback in Jan !
Im sure I saw liverpool scouts in Hill16!
C'mon the Cats !!

Iveski

I think you could be onto a winner on that one imagine Stephen Cluxton as a back up to Reina or Bernard Brogan and Suarez up front. Congratulations to the Cats well deserved win today, I havn't been as excited about a sporting event as I am for next weekends football final since Istanbul, 16 years is a long time and a lot of dissapointments for the Dubs.

Hill 16 is Dublin only! Unless your a Liverpool Scout.
Gman82

Ha!Ha!.. Brogan would be good in the air alright..Dunno about cluxton though , he had 2 years with Luton, I cant remember what its like to be in Croke park in September, 2000 when we got mauled by the Cats.
Have to go back to 82 for the big ball.

afternoon eds .just read a part story on the staduim ,couldnt work out what it was trying to say only that trying to sell naming rights, and not worth spending 300 million for an extra 15,000 seats. so where is this going . have you any info or did you read full story cheers psv {Ed001's Note - all I know is that FSG's preference would be to expand the stadium, but they want to go beyond 60000 seats. The last I heard, that was definite information, was that a study was looking into what would need to be done to turn Anfield into an 80k seater and what would be needed to be done to provide the infrastructure for the surrounding area to support it. There was also a study into what it would take to build a brand new 80k stadium. Then comparisons were to be made, but it does seem more likely that Anfield will be expanded if possible.}

But anfield will never become a 80k seater. plus it would be cheaper to build a 80k stadium along with selling the naming rights than to expand anfield into a 80k stadium, its not like anfield has alot of space around it {Ed001's Note - not true, it is perfectly possible to make Anfield 80k, there is the space, it just involves completing the purchase of more of the area around the stadium. The problem is the infrastructure around the area, it is not capable of coping with 80k people every other week. But we have looked at what City are doing in the area surrounding their stadium, they are doing a complete regeneration of it.}

Ed what stadium do City own as far as I am aware Manchester City Council own it and they have it on a lease? {Ed009's Note - The Etihad Stadium.}

04 Sep 2011 15:56:57
Are LFC looking at any German players, i.e. - Podolski, Götze or Kroos, as youth, with clear ability and future potential, they would also be comparatively cheap. What I am getting at is, do we have scouts over in Germany at all?

REDinBED {Ed002's Note - Scouts will be aware of games in Germany and will attend games periodically. I would not expect to see Gotze or Kroos at Liverpool in the near future.}

04 Sep 2011 15:01:51
" Even with three goals and three points secured, the team wanted more; the howl of anguish after Ivan Klasnic's inconsequential consolation told the whole story. This is a squad that will always strive for better. That's how Kenny Dalglish has built his squad.

It's not only a squad of good players, but one that's leaner, meaner and tighter. The players brought in are ones of a similar mentality to players like Suarez, Kuyt, Lucas, Carragher, Gerrard and Reina. Kenny Dalglish, and Fenway, are seeing their plans come to fruition.

Watching the circus of transfer deadline day, there were neither nervous twitches nor strained ears from Liverpool supporters. It's much more entertaining when you're not in the lion's den. Bellamy or not, Liverpool had strengthened sufficiently; the Welshman was merely a wonderful bonus to a splendid summer.

There's genuine belief that – for the first time in years – those in charge know what they're doing, and they're doing so with the best interests of the club at heart. "

Something I just read from thekop.liverpoolfc.tv, have to say it was a fantastic article, it's actually how things are going on at the moment!
BRIGHT & HAPPY FUTURE AHEAD!

I have just seen something absolutely BRILLIANT in the Warrington-Wigan Rugby League match. Warrington scored a try and there was a little bit of bother between several players. The referee stood his ground and called a Wigan player over. The player went to the referee and received a warning. There was a Warrington player involved and he stood at the other end of the pitch some 70 yards away. The referee called him and he walked and ran the whole distance to receive his telling-off. The Wigan captain went to the referee with his player but the Warrington player was on his own - THERE WERE NO OTHER PLAYERS INVOLVED (a la rooney). This is the way it should be. I am sick and tired of players (like rooney) taking part in conversations between referees and offending players. I know that there are a couple of poor referees (howard webb top choice) but they should be treated with respect and not attcked and abused by players!!!

I would like to make an official appology to everyone on this site for making the mistake of calling Steven Gerrard Stephen Gerrard yesterday. I now realise how offensive this must have been to all my fellow Liverpool fans and I will be punishing myself severly for this, I also wish to appologise in advance for any other spelling or gramatical errors I make in future posts. I am from the spelcheck generation and try as I might I just can't seem to make flawless posts, I realise that to some readers of this site this may be hard to comprehend but some of us are just human. This is not all down to ignorance on my behalf as I am from Ireland and it seems that my brain has not evolved enough to have the same grasp on the wonderfull English language as some of my peers, the 800 years your fore fathers spent trying to breed your wonderfull native tongue into my ancestors clearly wasn't enough, however, I hope it was not all in vein and that some of you may be able to look beyond my obviously inferior literary skills and find forgivness in your hearts.

Again sorry,
an ashamed Gman82

Im glad you have realised the error of your ways and has part of your punishment i feel you should give yourself a really good flogging until u realise that some people cant get over the fact you called stevie g steven how dare you sir your lucky where not in the nineteenth century or id probably challenge you to a duel over it but seriously dont see what the fuss what but at least you have got a sense of humour obviously some people who use this haven,t good post

On the contrary Ed001, I have fully absorbed the 'Irony' of the original post. I was just being mischievous for the sake of a cheap laugh. But back to the original point, given how long Mr Gerrard has been playing for the club one should have absored the fact that it's Steven by now. Surely?

Absorbed, not absored, absored sounds like a dyslexic troublesome teen red supporter..I used to be dyslexic but I'm K.O. now :)

I think its time to rate the various Ed's.

How about we rate them by:

1. Quality of jokes.

For me, that master of silky repartee Ed002 looks good for this one.

2. Quality of football judgement and knowledge

Old salt Ed001 may have the edge here- and as a Chelsea fan, Ed002 cannot be permitted to win this by definition.

3. Sex appeal. This category does have the advantage that it requires the Eds to reveal their gender- otherwise my assumption is that they are all male, and my default rating will be zero all round.

They're all wonderful !
And they've all got the perfect faces for this anonymous site. Lol.

team vs stoke city:

Reina
flanagan coates agger enrique

Henderson lucas adam downing

kuyt(interchanging with henderson)

Suarez
Subs: carra, maxi, carroll , sterling, bellamy, spearing, doni.
RedTurk

Coates will not start at the expense of Carra, Kenny is not that stupid

Coates will be eased into the team and his first appearence whenever that happens will be as a substitute

Ask a young centre half to make his debut away at Stoke.
You cwazzzzzzyyy....

Coates has not even trained with the team yet! It would be pure Stupidity to play him at Stoke! I imagine the first time we will see him will be against Brighton.... Maybe from the bench.

I can see the logic from people saying he should not but I remember a certain young right back who made his debut away at Man Utd. (rob jones for those wondering) Coates is an international class player so there is no reason why he should not fit in straight away.

So quick to right off Carra - who do you think has been marshalling our defence for the last three matches? Get a grip - one goal conceded and by a slice of bad luck after Carra's rescuing tackle. Don't be so fickle - Carra's never let us down.

Newtydreads

Flanagan was different- he was familiar enough with the first team to have a chance of making a good start, and he was good enough to deliver.

Coates may be very good indeed, but there is no chance of him starting against Stoke.
If they'd had a normal week of training you might think about giving him the last 15 minutes off the bench, if we were winning and playing well.

Carra's rescue tackle. Why did he have to put in that unlucky rescue tackle in the first place? Wouldn't be his fault would it? It must have been, because I didn't witness him abusing anyone like he always does.Carra his a legend, but he his not irreplaceable like some fans glorify him to be.Imo considering how Kenny likes to set his team up Carra is a liability.Coates will soon have his shirt mate.Fact.
Micheal Mouse

Why keep playing players like henderson out of position? he's a CM and can play at RM but never a AM or SS.

reina
skrtel, carra, agger, enrique
lucas, adam
henderson, kuyt, downing
suarez

gk;doni
rb;flanno, cb;coates, lb;robinson
lm;maxi, ss/wfd;bellamy
cf;carroll

i'd bring on bellamy and maxi for kuyt and henderson and to those who thinks luis needs rest remember we are not in any european competitions.

suarez to get two and level out his goals per games ratio

I dont think kenny thinks Carra is a liability. if he did, Skrtel would be playing ahead of Carra. Skrtel did great at right back. tough to choose from. but id say Agger and Carra starts. maybe Coates / Skrtel sub.

Has spearing not gone on a season long loan? i rated him highly, LFCLegend

i am not sure of the infrastructure of anfield, but can we not lower the pitch(dig down) as the mancs did, surely that would be cheaper, anfield has a great atmosphere surely by doing this and raising the stands atmosphere would be collosal

I like the idea of that mate

Seats are too close to the pitch. If we lowered the pitch all it would achieve is a drop before the picth.

In my opinion the next three games will define whether or not we have title credentials. If we come out with 7 points from Stoke/ Spurs away and Wolves at home, I think we can consider ourselves title contenders. We took zero from these last season.

Not forgetting Brighton away in the Carling. Cos that's a toughie too.

dont know what everyone else thinks cause i know theres alot of haters out there but i think that the man henderson is gonna be a massive contributor of goals from the midfield for lfc, if not this season definately for years to come. i think he can be as prolific as stevie has always been, (not making comparisons as players). i know that goalscoring was something he wanted to work on while at sunderland with the rest of his game already at quite a high level for a young lad, i think he could be quite a force going forward and an all round good midfielder and good buy.
shoot me down as you like, just an opinion.
thoughts?
mush

He doesn't look settled going forward

I can't see why not,

I don't see him getting as many miracle goals as stevie G has over the years but with the team playing a much more offensive creative style then over the last few years he could be getting alot of in the box or just outside the box chances, and he has the talent to take em

carrol is a shoe in for stoke due to all ther height n set piece dangers,
5 gold stars

Coates and Agger could be the preferred centre back pairing against Stoke to add some aerial advantage.

Why play Stoke at their own game? Stoke's defenders are tall and adept at combatting aerial threats. They're not the most mobile though so a quick pass-and-move style should make it easier to break them down. Suarez, Bellamy and Kuyt to start for me, Downing dropped to the bench

Just following on from The Urchin's post about a new 96k stadium in honour of the Hillsborough 96, which is another good post by him by the way.
But, imo, if we were to have a new stadium with a large capacity, I would leave 96 x seats empty. Dotted around the stadium or in a cluster (dunno?) just a poignant reminder to everyone.
FS, the club could even put a levy on the other seats if the suits were that bothered about missing revenue.
But, as this issue demonstrates, there are a lot of historical issues that would have to be incorporated in to a new stadium. A helluva lot. I've been to The Emirates, and it's a lovely stadium, but again for me it has cut Arsenal's history away. The Clock is just a token gesture there.
This would be a model for 'how not to go' for Liverpool.
But, as per Macca's post, I would be delighted that we remain at Anfield. Certainly for the medium term at least.
The Real KB

KB, as a Celtic fan, I would never think of leaving Celtic Park, surely staying at Anfield, with all its history is the way forward, I know there are difficulties with getting a bigger capacity at Anfield, but good architects should be able to find a way round this, Celtic were in a similar position ie restricted on how far out we could build so we went UPWARDS and got 60,000 seats, surely Liverpool could do the same and keep playing at Anfield with all your history and memories intact.
Timalloy

That's the crack, Tim. One of our 'in the know posters, Macca' said the other day that he's heard that this is the plan. Re-develop to 60,000. There's loads of urban decay around Anfield now. Enough to knock down some properties to enlarge the stadium, but i think the area was deliberately run-down by the Council over a number of years, going right back to the Texan owners, with a view to a new stadium and neighbourhood regeneration. Now it's all on hold. A couple of brilliant old LFC pubs have gone on Walton Breck Rd, old time boozers with memoribilia on the walls going back to early 60's. The Council would much prefer a new stadium, but probably too much cost at this point.
The Real KB

I think thatleaving 96 seats empty would be a fantastic statement because in reality those seats would always be full

TC YNWA

96 empty seats in the kop, or equivalent stand in a new stadium, would be an amazing message.

KB, Celtic Park for those who have never been there is in Glasgow,s east end, and was a deprived area and just as in Liverpool, the council neglected it, but since the Commonwealth Games were awared to Glasgow 2014, there has been money spent regenerating the area, we have new roads, new rail links, new housing, new stadiums both (athletics and cycling) all within touching distance of Celtic Park. I hope anfield stays as I loved visiting there with the KOP in full voice hail hail Timalloy

I remember Glasgow East End around Celtic Park was very rough, to put it mildly. But the big problem with LFC now is how long the saga has dragged on. It's brought the entire area right down. The issue is not just the ground now.
The Real KB

I'm not an architect or engineer but my choice would be to expand the existing Main Stand and Anfield Road Stand. Close Anfield Road at Alron Road and make it a cul-de.sac. The length of Anfield Road between Alron road and The Arkles would become part of the new stadium footprint. Extend the stadium boundary right up to the Stanley Park. That way we keep all the parking on Stanley Park and increase the space needed for fans gathering at the stadium and on-site car parking. The loss of the through-route of Anfield road would not create major problems for residents as many other alternatives are available. By taking the Main Stand back further we could expand The Kop to the left and increase the seating capacity there too.
MidsRed

Ps Tim, Celtic's example would be a very good one to follow actually.
The Real KB

I think they should spell "96" in white seats at one end. They should have "96" spelt into the kop, "ynwa" along one side and the sponsor's name along the other

I have just seen that Gary Neville has used his Sunday column to basically slag Liverpool off - accusing us of deliberately losing to Chelsea in 2010 to give them the title. How dare he question the professionalism of our players and our club! This is the same club that played Blackburn on the last game of the season with Blackburn needing to win to clinch the title and we beat them 2-1. I am astonished that a paper is allowing Neville to spout his opinionated rubbish. Kenny Dalglish wrote for the same paper and his column was always honest and he would never accuse a team of deliberately losing.

It's amazing as you think he couldn't do anything to make himself more disliked.

If we really need to build another stadium it should be a massive 96,000 capacity stadium in memory of all those 96 people who lost their lives in Hillsborough. Otherwise i would love to see Anfield redeveloped to 60000-65000 capacity rather than having another stadium.

Justice for the 96

The Urchin

Brilliant Idea mate!

We could have 96 written into the seats on the kop. Or have 96 seats allocated to the families of those who were so tragically lost. Their memories must never be forgotten YNWA

Cheers
Greggers

What about donating the income from 96 seats to the campaign. After all, the family of our lost friends still have to cope with their personal loss and will be suffering physical and mental trauma for the rest of their lives. They could need financial help later in life.

Morning boys and girls and eds.....
My beautiful girl has woken me up at 5:45 this morning!.... still.... gives me a chance to post half asleep comments on here....
I am really positive about Liverpool at the moment to the point where I no longer worry about signings, tactics, team selection because Kenny is in charge. This is not blind faith.... it is just an acknowledgement that he has the best interests of the club at heart.
The work done in the transfer window was superb. Commoli,Daglish and the owners deserve great credit for removing every carp player from our squad in 1 window. I still cant believe it.... Jovanovic, cole, degen ( the carpest player of all time),poulsen, insua etc all gone. I would have liked to have seen aquallani and meireles stay but aqua did not want to play for us and Raul did a decent job for us but will not be missed too much as he lacks commitment to the cause ( bottling out of every tackle).
With gerrard to come back everything is looking rosy and I am looking forward to a season of no worries about where the club is heading as only a blind man could not see that we are on the way back up to the summit...
jonnybarnes89-90
p.s ed.... would you play carroll against stoke? {Ed009's Note - Nope. His physical threat would be largely nullified by Stoke's physical defence. Conversely, Suarez would find playing his tricky, skilful game even easier than usual. He should play, with Bellamy too.}

........................REINA....................
....SKRTEL..CARRAGHER..AGGER..ENRIQUE.
..........HENDERSON..LUCAS..ADAM..........
.....KUYT................................DOWNING
.........................CARROLL...................

SUBS
DONI..FLANAGHAN..COATES..SPEARING
BELLAMY..RODRIGUEZ..SUAREZ

(1)

(7)
No suarez... Explain why cos I can't think he's tired - Mc

More than likely be
reina

skrtyl carra agger enrique
lucas adam
kuyt hendo downing
suarez

subs
doni flanno coates carrol
bellamy maxi

Stoke would love us to play big Andy, with el pistolero on the bench, so we get sucked into a messy/scrappy long ball game. Suarez gives us pace that troubles all defenders & he is almost impossible to mark, we need to play our passing game & not play into stokes hands. Your thoughts on this Ed's?

Jimbob {Ed001's Note - I agree completely, they have big strong defenders, better to let Suarez give them the run around.}

Suarez has to be in the starting 11 and Skrtel will not be played at RB!

Skrtel will play at right back, they have massive forwards and good wingers, flanno will be well out his depth.

And Skrtel excelled at RB against Bolton! Alphared

Carra - Coates - Agger - Enrique

I know its unlikly but its what I want to see -Mc {Ed009's Note - my back four as well.}

im the original poster and i did look at playing coates with carragher at right back as well as it looks like johnson and kelly will both be injured and i agree flanaghan will struggle against there strong team but felt maybe coates needs more time to settle.
the 3 in midfield is the best option to break down stoke as they are sure to pack out there back line and creating something from midfield might be are best option to breaking them down.
as for the carroll debate i know everybody feels suarez should play every game and on performances so far fully justified but carroll will give us cover at both ends and that might be vital, allso if you have noticed this season kenny prefers to play 1 loan striker and carroll is his prefered pick for away games guess we will wait and see come next week.

Skirtle at right back could be a bit dodgy against Etherington (if he's fit). I agree with starting Carroll and leaving Suarez on the bench. Similar concept to the Arsenal game, tire them out and bring on Suarez and Bellamy with fresh legs for the last 20 to steal the points.

Ozone

Stoke like playing the ball to their wingers, who are their main threat. They are also very capable at dealing with an aerial threat like Carroll's. So I think our best bet is to try to make the game very narrow so they can't get the ball to their wingers, and play with pace and movement up front. I'd also start Spearing over Adam as his more confrontational style is better suited to getting into Stoke's faces:

Reina
Flanagan--Carragher--Agger--Enrique
Henderson--Lucas--Spearing
Kuyt--Suarez--Bellamy

Subs: Doni, Skrtel, Robinson, Adam, Maxi, Downing, Carroll

Probably the team for Stoke
-----------------Reina
Carragher-Coates-Agger-Enrique
--------------Lucas-Adam--------
-----Kuyt-Henderson-Downing-
---------------Suarez-------

We have height in the back and pace up front. Suarez will rip Stoke apart and Bellamy can come on behind him and provide that little extra pace for the final 20 minutes.
thoughts ed?

I'm not the type of person to say i told you so, but i posted on here before the season started. It could have been around the time the Copa America was on or just before. I stated that Lucas was the best defensive mid in Europe. Was derided for it. Busquets,Mascereano and 1 or 2 more player's were mentioned as reply's,your lookin through your rose tinted specs and/or yes very good but their are better. Well, apart from making the most tackles last season in the Prem last season as most of us know, he's top of the tree again already with 22 succesful one's. He's finally being recognised, not just by us Liverpool fans who knew that he was great at his job,but by fans of other clubs and even the tabloid press. He's so good on the ball as well, so sharp and concise are his passes to go along with the obvious confidence he's playing with and why not being the best player at what he does in Europe. No inferiority complex for me when it come's to us challenging Chelsea,Utd and City. Champion's league footy is a must,we all know that. But i truly belive that we can pressure all 3 of the above named teams all season long and win it. With the talent K.K and D.C have brought in to go with the return of our Great Captain and the rest of our squad, which will give the players a massive boost and a little nudge to keep remind them to keep their standard's high, and not to be the guy dropped after he does get back in the side. It may seem unfair but when fully match fit, he'll be in our starting 11,and rightly damn so. Jonson6. ps very kind of you Chris.

I was one of the people who posted when you said that about Lucas. I would like to say that I didn't slate you for it. I still agree that Lucas is a great player and the best defensive midfielder in the pre. Though I still don't agree that he is the best in Europe. Busquets plays a vital role for barcelona because he stays back and covers the defence when Iniesta, Xavi and occasionally Pique go to attack he does a brilliant job and there are others I mentioned and as I said before this is just my opinion and I am not saying you are wrong because it is your opinion.
NI Red

If Lucas had another half a yard of pace he would be hands down the best DM in the world. Its the only thing he lacks. Otherwise he has come on leaps and bounds and must be in the top 5 around. He is def better than Mikel... lol

Against Stoke we should IMO field a team with pace down the flanks and give Henderson the freedom to play his game and express himself by putting him in behind the Striker. The Striker has to be Suarez, he scored on his debut against the Stoke defence and I think he will casue them all sorts of problems. Downing should start on the right (where he played for Villa) as he is hard to stop when he cuts inside and has more of a chance of a goal with his left which he is due. I would also start Bellamy on the left as he will cause Huth problems with his speed, he is also a clever player and will link up well Suarez and I could see him running on to an Enrique chipped through ball. Hopefully Johnson is back to add to the attacking flavour but maybe its too early and Skrtel deserves another go at right back or perhaps the ever ready Flannagan. Nevertheless the following is my team vs Stoke...let me know what you think...

....................REINA....................

JOHNSON..CARRA..AGGER..ENRIQUE.

.............LUCAS.....ADAM..........

DOWNING...HENDERSON......BELLAMY

..................SUAREZ..................

Subs: Doni, Skrtel, Coates, Spearing, Maxi, Kuyt, Carroll.

IMO this is our strongest team, Gerrard for Henderson when he's fit and we're a match for any team in the league, that's how I would go against Stoke too mate spot on!

Surely Bellamy and Downing should swap wings though...

Stoke have one the most physically imposing defences in the premier league with Huth, Woodgate and Shawcross. They are a strong in their own box and will be a threat from set-pieces in our penalty area. That is why Carroll is a definate starter not only to occupy their defenders, but to help out our defence at corners and free-kicks.

JRG

------------Reina-----------
Carra-Coates-Agger-Enrique
--------Lucas--Adam------
Downing---Hendo---Bellamy
------------Suarez----------

Solid back four, Coates would have a field day dealing with Stoke's long balls, crosses & throw-ins. Then the movement of the front 4 would cause Shawcross & Huth mayhem.

Stone YNWA.

I agree also, going for pace and ball on the floor will be the best plan for attack. Whipping high balls across for big Andy may seem like a training session for Stoke. We beat them well last season playing three center-halves (mathematically three center-thirds), the long ball was hardly a problem for us. So I hope we play height at the back and pace up front too.
