Eds and reds,
What are the situations with:
1) Ashley Williams
2) Christian Eriksen
3) Kevin Gameiro

I know there have been comments on all three in the past, but has there been any recent information that you can tell us? {Ed002's Note - Try the search engine.}

So there's nothing new about any of them that hasn't been said in earlier comments?

05 Apr 2013 23:59:29
1. no intrest from Liverpool
2. intrest from Liverpool, very very unlikely
3. no intrest from Liverpool

Malak

Eriksen is more likely than you think

Eriksen more likely than you think? Not a hope fella

Not a hope? You best tell our scouts then. Poor guys they're going to be heartbroken. They seem to think there's a chance but if you insist not well hey, who are they to argue?

But they are earning air miles, be a shame to tell them he isn't interested

06 Apr 2013 17:19:01
i would love if eriksen comes to Liverpool, but I don't see it so likely as the player has said many times in the danish media he dreams of playing in spain.

2013/2014 home kit on Liverpool sightings

Waz The Red

Wish they would leave the kit alone for a couple of seasons, the current one is pretty cool. I thought they had to leave kit the same for two seasons, or are they into fleecing cash-strapped fans just like any of these sportswear companies. Guess all the money came with more strings than a Welsh harp. New one ok, but prefer them without all the contrast trim bull.

Im sorry but w are going nowhere with rodgers he is usless at bringing in transfers and will not take the club to the next level! Rodgers out! what's he do that dalglish has not done or hodgson! Hodgson good enough to be england manager so I think he can manage a premier league team

Ben the Red

Ben the red devil.

So coutino and sturridge aren't any good then? Which you would of said earliear we could of stuck with a front 3 of Suarez, shelvey and. Oh yeah we didn't have a third striker. go do your homework mate

Coutinho.

BthekingB

'what's he do that dalglish has not done or hodgson!'

Well, he didn't buy Poulson or Konchesky for a start. He has also slashed the wage bill massively, and put much more emphasis on promoting young players (which, afterall, was the entire point of our Academy set-up wasn't it?), he's also working with statistically the youngest team in the Premiership, building foundations for a strong, cohesive team. He's worked with a much tighter budget and bought shrewd buys in the likes of Coutinho and Sturridge, and has got the best out of the likes of Downing, Henderson and Enrique.

There's just a few examples. Crack on with your negativity, but instead of shouting it on here, why not aim it at the pigeons in the park where it would be more suited?

JFT 96

JP

Good post jp I agree with everything u said completely, original poster is quiet frankly clueless

Hodgson took over as manager when the club was in transition of new owners, he had no budget to spend because there where no obvious owners to give that assurance therefore he had to enter the transfer market looking for very low transfer deals or loans, lay off the man because to be honest lfc shafted him {Ed001's Note - utter nonsense. He was useless and clueless and wasted money on dross. Far too defensive and should have been sacked the moment he said a draw against Everton would have been a good result.}

06 Apr 2013 01:18:22
High five JP - exactly what I was going to say

06 Apr 2013 08:14:12
i think rodgers is a decent manager but he is very inexperienced he needs time but we are Liverpool we can't accept mediocrity in the summer if some top manager is available than I don't see any harm in changing manager. someone like manuel pellergini would be perfect for us otherwise we should stick with rodgers but just be extra careful in transfers.

Nice one ed001 that's what I like some one who does not sit on the fence and tells it how it is/was

06 Apr 2013 12:19:35
usually I don't care about agrees or disagrees, but to see so many many disagrees on your complete and utter noncense makes it easy to see that no one agrees with your BS.

Malak

He needs help in the transfer market to ensure the money we spend is not wasted.
Last summers signings made no impact on the first team squad and I think have hindered our PL place this season as he persisted with them at the expense of players like Hendo and Downing for the first half of the season.

05 Apr 2013 16:19:28
Hey ed001, seeing you're around, would you share your thoughts on how the defense (and perhaps goalkeeper) should be reshaped come summer, and what can we realistically expect to happen? Out of De Vrij, Zambrano, Lovren, and Alderwield, which do you consider the best, and which the most realistic (and am I missing someone from the list)?
Also, can Kelly cut it as a center back, and would moving him away from right back mean less injuries for him? It is really a "make it or break it" season for him I think.

Cheers,
Drigan

Hello Eds,
is it true Liverpool are looking at Rodney Kongolo (Feyenoord) and Marko Dabro (the Croatian Kid)?
That would be two excellent additions to the acadamy just need to add a Quality LB (possibly that Xavier lad). {Ed052's Note - They are not players that I have heard us linked with no. We have enough LB's with Robbo, Smith, O'Hanlon etc}

O'Hanlon is tried as a forward or winger isn't her ED? I remember him playing in an advanced position couple of weeks back.

The real AG {Ed052's Note - he has been yes, but can fill it at LB}

I am sorry I don't agree with you Ed.
Jack Robinson will either join the first team next season or go on another loan or be sold.
While O 'Hanlon has rarely been deployed at LB for the acadamy. He plays either CM or LM.
thus we just have smith and as you can see he is injured now we really seem to be struggling and have been using Roddan at LB. Surely we need another one as Roddan is out of contract in the summer and is most likely to leave. {Ed052's Note - I still think a LB isd a long way down our need list, but I understand where you come from}

05 Apr 2013 16:18:50
So Paul Ince values his boy at £25mill on the basis of how much the Mancs paid for Zaha. Do we assume Eds that he's from the North Korean school of telling the truth?

BaldyRed

05 Apr 2013 19:39:39
i just think he hit his head really really hard and was confusing thomas with gareth

Boobi

Would be happy if they sold him for 25million as I think Liverpool get 30% of the sale! We'll then go and buy someone cheaper and better from abroad. fingers crossed!

I think the question was how do you value the whole club including both piers.

Well he is right. ince has been twice the player zaha has been this year.
people knocking on about how we never get value for money, then we have a kid ripping it up this season, both goals and assists. but no one wants him because he is english and is playing in the champion ship. same people wanted hooper and now wanyama from celtic, just no thinking behind any of it.

we could pick him up in the summer for about 5million.

I feel he should not have said that.
If Thomas Ince is sold for a heavy transfer fee, it might weigh him down.

Look at Fernando Torres, a seasoned professional and not at all a bad player. but his performances in Chelsea have always been compared with his transfer fee.

Also, I am not very sure Zaha will be as good as much the hype around him at the moment

The LiverBird

Kumber.
You could of kept ince instead of letting him go to Blackpool.
djay

06 Apr 2013 08:16:57
i don't see the point of signing ince when we already have sterling and ibe.

The same happened with sean wright-phillips. Young decent talent, massively over-priced and that move killed his career.
Silly of his dad to hype him up like that
G

Hi eds is Schneiderlin of Southampton being looked at? If not by us then by someone else? Could be a decent back up to Lucas

Cheers {Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware.}

Not Liverpool related but I hope it get posted.

Is anyone else falling out of love with football, becoming disenchanted with a game played by overpaid, out of touch ego maniac's. As Liverpool weren't in action this week I decided to watch a few games as a neutral and all I could wonder is how can these players rolling around on the floor feigning injury, talking to the officials like dogs and lying for a corner or a throw in call themselves men. During the Madrid game Benzema in particular continued to go down as if he was hit by a bullet, the night before the Barca players surrounded the ref harassing him in to changing his mind, and finally Thursday night a player hailed as the best in the Premier League, supposedly one of the best in the world Gareth Bale, a know cheat booked at least four times this season for diving but is put up on a pedestal as a world beater. Now its not just Bale that has been caught going to ground far too easily numerous player this season have been caught out including our very own Luis Suarez.
These issues could be cut out if the people in charge weren't interested in making money for themselves, along with rising ticket prices surely a wage cap of £100,000 could be brought in, is that not a generous wage? it makes you wonder what the game will be like in 10 years time and if it will even be worth watching.

always a red

No, not at all. I love football. The speed, the passion, the do or die attitude. For every Bale there is a Shawcross, for every Benezema there is a Barry (say what you want about Barry and I don't rate him as a player, but that man is a fair human being on the field). If someone has a 'winning is everything' attitude and is willing to do what it takes to get there - great. If they value honour and integrity and find winning without that worthless - equally valid

Barry and milner is a conspiracy none of them can play football yet they both were bought buy a club witg endless money and options and called up to England

Baffling

The OP is spot on, the game has no morals and if I think about it I hate it
but, I love it too and I love Liverpool FC and no matter what I always will.

Great post! It just seems the passion and spirit has gone out of the game. It's all about money, money, money--not just the players but, the owners as well.

This is what happens when you glorify and idolize people that really don't deserve it--be it footballers or any entertainer for that matter--they actually begin to believe all the b. s. about their importance and they lose sight of what is truly important.

It's the reality of the times we live in unfortunately and certainly not unique to football.

What are you talking about pal that statement was a load of bull!!

I think you have a point. So many things drive me crackers about the modern game. Time wasting, feigning injury, abusing referees, dangerous challenges, appealing for everything, wrestling at corners. And. the abuse fans throw at players has gone too far and needs dealing with.

AJH

Have to agree it's a concern to many of us what way football is going. The only valid argument against salary caps is that the game produces so much money and it has to go somewhere, but then stop ballooning ticket prices and it would soon make sense.

But it's fans too don't forget - not to make it too personal for people but don't forget how vehemently some "fans" of Liverpool Football Club backed Suarez in his first full season. I know he seems to have been grounded by Rodgers, but he was horrible to refs, opposition players, his own team mates and WAS in the wrong "That" time.

I myself believe I would prefer to watch Liverpool do things right and never win the Premier League than compromise decency and a reputation that was almost irreparably damaged last season - and I believe that makes me a real fan of the club - but sadly many don't agree; it's win at any cost, just like our friends along the M62.

Steve

I am not sure about the ticket prices.

But what is a must is that there should a cap on the ticket prices for away supporters?

A home game is a different kettle of tea compared to away games.

The real fan is one who visits the away matches and the ones who deserve the salutes and the benefits.

The LiverBird

I love football but don't love half the players, playing it, think that's probably true of most supporters.

This might sound sentimental, but my Great Grandad said football stopped being a sport and became a business the minute Trevor Francis got bought for £1 million, and now I tend to agree. I love football, and I love LFC, but it's now full of overpaid hair care models who are more interested in their pay cheque over the sport itself. Assou Ekotto summed it up when he said 'I play for the money, football is not my passion. ' It's a shame, because as fans we still adore the sport, regardless of what team we support, but the people who play it are so far detached from the roots of the sport itself that it sometimes is hard to watch.

JFT 96

JP

Millner would get in most teams he does so much work up and down the pitch and weighs in with a few goals he would get a game for lfc every week.

Crikey JP, how old are you and how old is your Great Grandad. Francis cost £1M in '79 which is only 35 years ago.

AJH

AJH, I'm 24. My Great Grandad was quite old.

JFT 96

JP

The worst thing is the way the players constantly surround the ref and hurl abuse.
This is not tolerated in rugby, players abide by the ref's ruling, the player's frustration is taken out on each other
Maybe we should allow the players to have a dust up, that would liven the game up a bit!

Ed since swansea won the capital one cup and wigan or mill wall will be fa cup runners up do we need to be 5th or 6th to qualify for europe?

True Red {Ed002's Note - 5th unless there is an odd sequence of events taht sees Manchester City or Chelsea win the FA Cup and drop out the CL places to exactly 5th or 7th and below.}

Very good chance that chelsea drop out of the top 4

05 Apr 2013 15:28:42
If the teams gives a half hearted performance then I really think FSG should introduce a salary docking system.

if they are given incentive bonus deals when they perform well then they should get their wages docked for not putting in a top performance.

there is absolutely no reason why poor performances like the southampton game should be accepted.

05 Apr 2013 16:25:38
i totally agree.
No room for complacency at Liverpool. you know if they took each game the same way they did the games they walked over their opponents we would be top 4 now.

Westbrom at home, Aston Villa at home, Everton away and man-rubbishty home and away. we dropped 12 points, if we had thoose, only those we would make us 3rd. with 60 points. the ref stole 2 points from us against bluerubbish, skrtel gifted man-rubbishty the equaliser 2 times. westbrom & villa games, I still can't believe we lost these games after the amount of chances we made.
villa had 3 shots-3 goals, webrom had 2 shots-2 goals. while we had about 35 real goal scoring chances in those games. shocking finishing! hehe

Boobi

I see what your saying but what criteria would they use to rate the players performances and who would rate them?

It could become really messy.

GuvTOB

Not too difficult really and all clubs should do it, just nominate 100 season ticket holders to give scores out of 10 for every player in every game. The average score gets turned into a percentage and that's what percentage of their wages they receive.
Simple

05 Apr 2013 18:52:32
there are performance analysists at top clubs, their whole job is to see sucsessful passes, interceptions, takles etc. etc. or unsucsessful dribbles, crosses, and so on. how much kms a player covered and so on.

you can easily tell a comitted performance or one that isn't by comparing those numbers!

boobi

I would say they are human beings and not machines.

They make the same mistakes as we do when we are at work.

I don't think anyone enters the pitch thinking that they are going to perform badly.

LiverBird

Bio rhythms are responsible for personal performance levels fluctuating up and down.

05 Apr 2013 22:38:13
Do I pass or take the shot on myself? I'll shoot, I need the money.
Won't work.

Hmmm what about lfc v spurs at home they should have got the 3 points and villa last weekend. its easy with red blinkered glasses to cherry pick but in fact lfc have gained quite a few "lucky"points as well

We won't attract or keep hold of any players i'm afraid.
derryred

06 Apr 2013 09:06:08
what about us vs spurs away?

you are a bogus red, an I am not biased but we have probably been the most unlucky team. if you don't agree you haven't watched us play in any game other than against your beloved spuds! God stop the trolling.

06 Apr 2013 15:05:01
And villa last weekend was a fully deserved win and it could have been 4-1 for us! I don't know which game you watched!

the post on glenn johnson. i'm not disagreeing with you that a full backs priority is to defend, but I think glenn johnson has been one of our best players this season. and I think he has improved from last season.

maybe its just me, but downing and johnson is working well together as a unit, attacking and defending as well.

again not disagreeing with your point, just stating what I feel. and I do believe we have one of, if not currently the best right back in the league.

If you say that GJ has been one of our best players this season then it shows you don't know much about football, maybe you think running up and down the pitch aimlessly is what makes him one of our best, what a joke

GJ has got away with murder this season in the LFC Jersey, once Kelly is fully fit I hope GJ is dropped from the team.

he adds nothing to our defence or our attack, he is only in the team as there isn't sufficient cover for that position,

i think instead of playing GJ at Right back, he should be played at Right Out,
Right out of the team :)

Glen Johnson is only good at attacking, but when it comes to defending he's always out of position, he's cost us a lot of goals this season, like the post above says that he runs around aimlessly and sometimes looks as though he ain't got a clue!

"running up and down the pitch aimlessly"- you don't know what you're talking about mate. Maybe try actually watching him play?

Thats definitely how u show your right, by saying i'm wrong, what a joke. or is your name not what a joke?

I've been a lurker on this site for a long time--following the rumors, reading the chatter.

I've never felt the urge or need to post, but I wanted to chime in on Glen Johnson.

The lad takes a good deal of abuse on this site and I think it's wholly unfounded.

Anyone who's watched a match will know that he's got his defensive deficiencies--he's prone to ball watching and can get caught out on set pieces.

But every player has weakness! And, overall, I believe that Glen Johnson offers a lot more positives than negatives.

The way he gets up the flank and joins the attack is simply sensational. His touch, vision and ability on the ball are real assets to our squad. There have been many matches this season (United away, for example) where I honestly thought he was our best attacking player.

Yes, sometimes his positional play is lacking. But it's important to remember what the manager is asking of him! If Rodgers is instructing and encouraging him to get forward, then of course his position will be a bit exposed at the back. In that case, it's up to the midfielders and the center halves to cover for him.

I also want to note how graciously he's handled the occasional move to left back (though he's stayed mostly on the right this season).

How many times have we heard players whining about being played "out of position"?

"Oh, I'm really at my best in this part of the pitch", or "I think I should be playing further forward. " Nonsense like that.

Whenever Glen Johnson called upon to put in a shift on the left side, he does it. No fuss, no hassle. He simply steps on the pitch and does his job for the team.

Remember, this is England's first choice right back--a player who's position at international level is under threat from younger players like Kyle Walker. But, he never moans or complains. He just goes out and puts in a shift.

At time when we are trying to rebound and rebuild, we all know that there are a few areas that need strengthening. For me, right back is not one of those positions.

I think we are lucky to have a talented, versatile player like Glen Johnson, with quality cover/understudies like Kelly and Wisdom.

Give the lad a break!

It's interesting that most of the people who seem to love talking about how rubbish and useless GJ is don't have a name, and the majority who support him are registered users.

Oh Richard it would had been so good if you hadnt posted and remained a Phantom! We are lucky to have GJ.

In reply to it, first and foremost a defender has to defend and he should know how to defend. Modern Football is all about attack and flair with full backs bombing forward and tracking back but going forward does not mean that you lose the ball and get lost in No Man's Island. When GJ is defending, he is always ball watching and not marking his man hence all these mistakes leading to goals or goal scoring chances.

And just to prove my point, all season long the only game you could remember of GJ being the best player on pitch for LFC was going forward against Man U. Jesus Christ he is a defender.

Indian with Red Heart

Johnson can be so frustrating and so brilliant all in the same game

05 Apr 2013 16:28:47
great reply richard

boobi

Red Heart, it's a game of opinions. You have yours and I have mine.

Regardless of whether we agree or not, there's no need to be at each other's throats.

We're both Reds, after all!

But, to address some of your points:

--I want to reiterate that Johnson's positioning (and the positioning of all our fullbacks) is heavily contingent on Rodgers' style of play. He wants his fullbacks bombing on, and expects his midfielders and center halves to cover gaps on counter attacks. That hasn't worked out too well this season--we continually get ripped to shreds on the break--but I don't think it's fair to fault a player for doing what his manager asks.

--A few defensive stats in favor of Glen Johnson: He's won %58 of his aerial duals and has an 84% tackle success rate. Those numbers place him in the top echelon of fullbacks in the Premier League. Granted, stats don't tell the whole story--and, as I noted above, he tends to get caught out at the back post too often--but I do think he's a better defender than he's given credit for.

--Lastly, I just want to reiterate: I am not saying that Glen Johnson is a perfect player. He has his flaws, of course. But I believe that he offers a lot and that the club's resources are better used elsewhere.

And regardless of how we all feel about individual performances, I think we're all in agreement in hoping for a great performance against West Ham on Sunday! Maybe Johnson will even score another screamer like he did at Upton Park in December!

I not sure on Johnson myself, I think going forward he's a good player, but at defending and that's what he's there to do, then he sometimes doesn't cut it, he gets caught ball watching way to much, he's rubbish on set pieces and players go past him to easy! I would rather play Kelly there myself!

Ack17

Better left back

All those managers from Redknapp to Rodgers and the numerous England managers must all be really daft. All those years of picking Johnson only to find out today that he's crap.

The Irish Rover

Ha Ha HA Ha, Glen Johnson being one of our best players this season, have you thought about going on stage.

Glen Johnson has been a disgrace this season, and I for one very much hopes he is shown the door

alan50

I think we will miss him when he is gone.

He is very good. You just need to see Kyle Walker playing for England to realize just how good Glen Johnson has been for Liverpool.

I think his first year at Liverpool (with Rafa) has made him so good. He would have been even better had Rafa stayed for another season.

The LiverBird

Alan50 johnson may not have been the best this season but 1: there is no need to speak to a fellow fan like that and 2: your an absolute disgrace of a fan! All you ever do is spew vile hatred and negativity! Is this how you conduct yourself in everyday life? If so it must be a pitiful existence mate! Try posting a positive comment for a change, say something righteous and beautiful for a change, like oddball. Jesus man!

G. johnson is a very good attacking fullback, he has defensive problems in very few games when he plays against tanks (benteke, crouch, lambert)
But he has been good this season, some assists and the reason downing is looking half decent! Being a fullback requires amazing stamina and downing runs up and down all game, he needs improvement but all the players are adjusting to new tactics and completly different set-ups!
The only thing I mislike about him is his 100 000 a week wages and the clause about playing a lot as rb to keep his place in the NT team. not good!

The problem with MOTD fever is that you see players rising to give their best. Take Salah yesterday for example. Last season he was playing in Egypt. This season, he plays for Basel - not the biggest club in the world but we all know it. However, he is also playing for Basel in the most famous stadium he has ever played in, where he knows his performance will be measured against Gareth Bale (granted he played against Zenit and Lisbon, but the fact that it's a EL quarter final makes up that difference). Assuming the occasion doesn't leave him winded, he'll be playing his heart out because it's the biggest match he's ever played. That is not an indication that he'd be perfect for a team like us or that looking at them is anything but a waste of time.

Incidently, it's why players that burst onto the scene in places like the WC for smaller footballing nations tend not to become lasting word stars (see: El Hadj Diouf, Salif Diao) - they have motivation that does not exist when you turn out at Carrow Road to get three points against Norwich. All you know about players from matches like yesterday is that they have the ability to rise to an occassion

Haha give him a break the guy embarrassed Spurs all night not an easy thing to do these days at WHL.

I'm just using him as an example of how a player on the biggest night of his life can put everything he has into a performance and appear better than he is likely to appear week in week out. Basing views on one performance, or one limited time competition, is a mistake. Basing actual money spending on it is a disaster waiting to happen

05 Apr 2013 18:34:24
Sam I am egyptian and have watched salah over a 1000 times! He is simply amazing, what he did at WHL yesterday was 70% of what he can do and he has improved a lot each year ( I have watched him since he broke on the scene in egypr at 17 years old! He will become one of the worlds best players very shortly and bayern & dortmund watch him play each week! None of the players you mentioned have 50% of salahs skills and PACE! I wrote before the game about him being the egyptian messi so I knew he is brilliant before the game and he didn't dissapoint laying an assist and looking like 2 bales on the field!
Def no Motd for me atleast!

Malak

05 Apr 2013 19:14:52
i think salah has had much bigger nights in his life
like playing his first international game at cairo international stadium infront of 85 000 home fans starting along side his personal hero and inspiration M. abotreika in a world cup qualifier, the reason he wears the jersey 22 at basel is to salute egypts best player in history! No way WHL was "the biggest game in his life" Egypt is a giant in african football, the biggest of them all at international and club level. They are just now starting to export their talents to europe due to the revolution which made almost all clubs broke.
we will talk about this post again when M. Salah is playing for Bayern or Dortmond in the near future and clubs want to pay 30-40 million euros for him!

I just hope and pray to god that in a couple of years we are back in the CL and will be one of the teams willing to pay for him.
He is one to watch out for.
Remember these names as well please.
Saleh Gomaa, Mohamed Ibrahim, Rami Rabia.
you will see all of them in world class teams in the future. Iam just telling you now so you don't say Motd fever when I say one of those names was brilliant in that game 2-3 years from now! hehe

Where has all this talk of us going for/needing a CDM come from? What has happened to Lucas? Surely we don't want him out of the team, we just want cover, and Spearing coming back means we won't need to spend money on it. I can see the benefits of strengthening the midfield but aren't there other priorities?

Do you really want Spearing as cover for Lucas??

Lucas is in the team because alonso isn't here he is good but gets ran through quite easily

Eds and reds,
Brendan Rodgers says he wants two players in each position, competing with each other for the first team spot.
Brendan Rodgers also says he's looking for quality not quantity.
So are Liverpool only looking for a centre back, an attacking midfielder, and a centre forward?

Help a hapless American. I'm way over here across the ocean, away from the whisperers of LFC rumors (or rumours, as you would say). I am also old an forgetful and don't know how to use the search function, or any other function for that matter. So, have any of you knuckleheads heard anything new about stadium plans? It is springtime. I would also be pleased if someone would reassure me that the away and third kits floating around the twitterverse are a joke. The 3rd resembles a patchwork quilt designed by a jester.

In case I forgot to sign in, warm regards to your mama's,

Tiresome John

Though some disagree, I must insist that it IS springtime, and spring is the season for submitting a planning application. So they said.

Really Happy about the players we are linked with at the moment. The likes of Alderwield, Erikson, Sakho, Bruno Martins Indi, Zambrano etc.
Looks like the scouts are finally out of their homes. :)
The only player that we should buy from England is Tom Ince as a back-up to Downing. Then use Ince when more of an attacking intent is required and use downing against teams where the RB needs to covered well.
I know a lot of people want to replace downing with someone better but at the moment we have other priorities (say 2 CB's, a CDM, a back-up RW) and a small budget. It would be better to use Downing (as he has improved recently) for one more season and then if we do Qualify for CL we can let him go and lure a top Quality RW.

I don't think any of the first bunch of players you listed will heading to anfield? I can see alderweireld and eriksen going to spurs though!

The original poster here.
Maybe if Spurs Qualify for CL but I still think Arsenal will nick the CL spot from them especially with their fixture list and add to that Bale's injury. I really reckon they will finish 5th.

eds or any other fans, could someone tell me how Ngoo and Wilson are doing at hearts, I know Ngoo scored a few when he joined them but not heard a lot really, I also thought wilson was going to be a very good player when signed so if anybody has opinions on the two with how they are doing it would be much appreciated!

Jackoo

They are both playing well but Hearts are a) really poor and b) right down in the dumps, especially after losing the cup final, that they are unable to really produce anything effective.

Hello Eds,
say Liverpool do end up buying Christian Erikson, would that be the end of Shelvey's spell at Liverpool?
As I just can't see him getting a game ahead of Gerrard, Lucas, Erikson, Hendo and Allen (Possibly Texeira too). And selling him would really help us to buy a top end DM, as we seriously lack one. {Ed002's Note - I really can't answer such questions.}

Shelvey should be sent on loan but didn't Rogers say he asked to play deeper for the under 21s recently he could do the holding role

Shelvey really isn't disciplined enough tactically to do the holding thing. Though his long passing is good enough that he could do a few Hollywood passes from there I guess.

Shelvey would seriously need to improve his tackling, especially his timing, as he usually gives away silly free kicks when tracking back and making tackles. Think we should just go for a nutural DM or promote someone of this ilk from the youth set up as they would only be backup to Lucas anyway.

IMH

Shelvey isn't disciplined enough yet. He's only just turned 21 - 6 month of intensive focus can turn a hell of a lot of things around

I don't know why we are always in a hurry to offload players.

Just look at Anderson, Nani, Fabio, etc. Man United are so good because they persist with the players and do not write them off after a single season.

I think Shelvey needs a loan to clubs like Wigan, Norwich, Aston Villa to develop as a player and play a full season to discover about himself and make mistakes to learn from them.

I don't know about anyone else, but i'm pretty excited about the summer transfer window, I can't wait to see what hidden gems BR will bring to us! He proved in the Jan transfer window that he has a good eye for talent by signing Sturridge and Coutinho. I know people are arguing that his summer transfers haven't quite set the prem alight, but having only a few months to work with the squad, he had to go with what he already knew. Allen has been up and down, and injured for the last few months all the time still playing, Borini has hardly played due to injury and Assaidi hasn't been fully fit (I hope we get to see some more of him towards the end of the season).

On the money front, I don't think we can blame FSG for not wanting to spend out. If you look at who Kenny brought in, FSG was happy to splash the cash, but this didn't work. Adam, Downing, and Carroll are the names we always here about over spending on, however they were all doing well at their previous clubs. Carroll had 11 league goals by Christmas, Charlie Adam was the free kick master, and Downing was representing England regularly and had 8 or 9 goals under his belt for the season. All prem proven as well, at the time they were pretty solid bets. It's unfortunate things didn't work out for them (although I think Downing is proving himself this season).

I think the biggest mistake that was made was spending £35m on a striker in January when we could have looked into loaning a striker until the end of the season, and then spending the money from Fernando in the summer. I think Kenny had his heart set on Big Andy, some kind of a bromance thing, with their days out to Boyzone concerts!

We certainly can't say our owners haven't put money into the club, but now they are aiming towards financial sustainability, which will be much better for us in the long run. Of course they want to make some money. I very much doubt they bought our club as a favour to the loyal and deserving supporters of Liverpool FC. Anyone of us investing money in something would want to see a return right?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I trust Brendan to find us some good replacements for whoever leaves, and some added depth. It's been great to watch us since Christmas, we are much less frantic in front of goal than we used to be, so rather than 30 shots on goal, 20 hitting the post and the other 10 hitting row z, 95% possession and losing 2-0 - we are actually winning games and converting our chances.

I know we're an impatient bunch, and we want things now - we've been waiting long enough! But don't we always aim jibes at Chelsea and City supporters about buying trophies? I think we'll get some good players in, and next season will see us really pushing for a top 3 spot.

Apologies for the essay

Cheers guys

Super

I think we will lose Gulacsi, Flanagan, Carragher, Skrtel, Coates, Wilson, Spearing, Pacheco, Assaidi and Carroll.
I think we will buy an experienced centre back, a skilful attacking midfielder, and a strong centre forward.
Then we will look to the quality in our academy to fill out the squad.

Btw, does anyone know if it's true that Spurs had a £28m offer for Carroll turned down that window (possibly that day)? {Ed002's Note -They made a bid but it was less than that.}

Ed002, we can only hope that Harry will have another go in the Summer when QPR are in the Championship and their current strikers have jumped ship. I could see it happening too.
The Juicer

Thanks Ed002

No need to apologise for the essay mate, it's what lots of us are thinking and plenty need to read! Rodgers' early signings were clearly ones for the future, January was a complete success and if we get in early on our targets like we're talking about I'm expecting more proof of his eye for talent. Some fans may not like some of what he does, but they have to at least admit he does it well.

on the debate about CB (whos going and whos coming) I would like to share my opinion on this area. With it looking increasingly unlikely that both skrtel and coates will get a chance in the first team again (unless either agger or carra get injured), I expect both to be moved on for reasonable fees. Skrtel for £8-10 mill and coates for around £4mill. In addition to these departures carra is retiring so in my humble opinion we need 2 quality CBs.

My first choice CBs would be Dejan lovren and Stefan de vrij (both as replacements for skrtel and carra respectively). Both are realistic and both are quality for club and country.

Lovren would cost around €10mill. He is a croation international and is a better and more versitile version of skrtel. Good in the air and superb at tackling. Would partner agger well. He also fits the age policy

De vrij would cost around €8mill. He is a dutch international and is captain of feyernord for his leadership skills. He has great ball playing ability and he is pretty tall which suggests he is good in the air. Agger can sometimes be unreliable, and lovren may need the rotation and competition. that is were de vrij comes in.

Wisdom replaces coates and becomes 4th choice cb for now. Kelly should be played at rb for another season as johnsons competition. No need for a lb as we have robinson and other areas are priorities.

Eds, any truth in torres being offered back to us? {Ed002's Note - Try the search function.}

Not again

05 Apr 2013 13:31:52
Why would we even consider buying Torres when he has been playing horribly and is pushing 30? Shouldn't we be looking for the 'new Torres' - younger, cheaper and probably better! I don't hate him, I just don't see the appeal of having him back with his form of the last 2 years.

Don't want Torres back, can't forgive him for handing a transfer request in the way he did, he keeps bleating on about how we will know "the truth" but we do already, he bailed out on us when we needed him to stand up and be counted, as far as I'm concerned the only way he comes back is as a visiting player and we can give him the abuse he deserves. Rant over!

Hey eds hope all is well paul ince claming thomas ince is worht 25million he must of had a late night or a drop before brekkie I like many think he's not good enough for us and I'm sure rodgers thinks differently if reports are to go by but if we pay more than 3million I'd be disgusted JON96

05 Apr 2013 12:39:02
How much would you value Sterling or Ibe at?

Just Interested, because everybody thinks their clubs youngsters are worth loads.

I'd say Sterlings value is £10m tops, but I wouldn't take less than £25m. Ibe is probably worth £5m, but I'd demand £20m. And these guys are younger, and even more unproven than Ince, albeit with in OUR opinion, far more potential.

Ince is worth about £7m in my opinion, so I wouldn't pay more than that, but if he was a Liverpool player, I'd want £20-25m so I can see Blackpool side of things.

YNWA! (Adam)

I think paul ince is 4 days too late.
April fools is long gone.
he said if zaha is 15 million, ince is better. well brendan can say we got suarez for 22 million so 4 million for ince is about right.
The last thing we need is overpriced british players.

05 Apr 2013 13:40:19
To be honest I'd love sterling to prove his potential and become a world beater but I have my doubts I think he will fade out of our club to lower leagues I really hope not but I think we should cash in now because I think he won't cut it at the top level hope I'm wrong I really do just my opinion JON96

Is this the same guy who thinks we should sign Torres?

Forget his past - anyone think Carroll should be played at Centre Back, at least he can win a header and when he does head the ball it won't be going towards the goal! :)

Could be the move of the season for him, resurrect his carrer and we get some of the value we paid for him.

IrishRedDog

One thing you have forgot, he has no pace, it takes him ages to turn around, therefore he would be no good at centre half.

05 Apr 2013 12:09:20
Disagree with first reply on Carrolls mobility. He is far more agile and quick on the turn than say Sami Hyypia was. Carroll as been known for trying the odd becycle kick. This idea he is a clumsy, Heskey like player is very wrong. He's far more athletic, just very large. You are right however in that he does lack pace, but again, so does Mertesacker, Vidic etc. The only reason Carroll couldn't be a defender, is because he cannot tackle well enough, and probably isn't tactically good enough. He also doesn't have the vision in my opinion to play a midfeild splitting ball out from the back.

YNWA! (Adam)

He has literally no acceleration. Looks like he's towing a caravan!

I've just read an article from Kolo Toure regarding the Manchester Derby as 'English Footballs biggest game'.

People are entitled to their opinion and I'm sure many players and fans alike have theories.

Now, without being biased, what do you think is the biggest game?

How would you define 'biggest game'?

History?

Global status?

Trophies?

Support?

Tribalism?

Population??

Reply with biggest English, international AND worldwide club football game.

Makes you think like.

Cheers lids.

DaveyBootle

Liverpool - United
Barca - Madrid
Celtic - Rangers
Lazio - Roma
Inter - Milan
Boca - River Plate
etc etc

All the biggest games share the attributes you mention, hard to pick a "biggest" game though.

SMc {Ed002's Note - I attended a Galatasaray - Fenerbahce several years ago and that was pretty intense.}

Biggest game I have noticed (and I have witnessed one live) for many years as far as support, hatred, passion etc. is definately the derby games between Newcastle and Sunderland - these supporters hate each other even though they are only about 10 miles apart.

Eds002 - if you thought that Gala-Fen was pretty insane, you should have tried Bestikas Vs Fenerbache. I was with a couple of mates, including a soldier recently back from Helmand. He described it as the scariest experience of his life.

Roma - Lazio is the other ridiculous abroad match I went to as well. In the UK, aside from Liverpool vs United my biggest feeling matches were Portsmouth - Southampton and of course, Milwall - West Ham. Newcastle - Sunderland is a good shout as well. One thing is certain to me- the Manc derby is not even close.

Liverpool Everton anyone?

Southampton v Portsmouth.

Spurs arsenal by a mile! Even clem said its just pure hate!

The Manc derby has always been a tame affair on and off the pitch, only in the last couple of years has it become anything to talk about - proven by the fact this one isn't worth talking about (it's over). tv etc need to pretend it is as it looks set to be the 1st v 2nd game for a good couple of seasons yet.

Spurs arsenal is one of the most mild derbies in the premiership. All the ones mentioned so far plus Villa vs Bham and Chelsea vs West Ham all outstrip it by a mile

It's got to be Liverpool vs Utd.

DaveyBootle

05 Apr 2013 18:23:35
Liverpool vs united, but neither fergie or united worry about Liverpool as much as their noisy neighbours, tables have turned Liverpool is just another club, as fergie said Liverpool are not in same league compare to city.

Samsam I honestly believe you have never been to a football match! I urge you to go to a nld! or read the book us v them the greatest football derbies in the world! Normaly don't like insulting people but you have no idea! If the eds kindly allow me? A survey was taken a few seasons ago with football fans voting on who they believe other than their own was the biggest derby's! Spurs v arsenal came first! In fact they also came 6th v west ham! No other london derby charted!

fsg will surprise us all this summer they will spend more than we all think, henry stated that they are still dealing will issues of the past. we had too many players on the books that never played or simple not good enough and it was costing them too much money. those issues will be solved this spearing carroll quates ect ect will be sold. fsg are not stupid they need cl football next season and if we all know that we need 2 defenders and at least 1 midf and 1 winger they know it too. kids like suso/sterling/ibe ect ect are not ready yet but some will be in time, fsg will spend big this summer and try to keep hold of the better players. in the future they will have youngsters coming trough and we will be earning more money trough good result and spend less on transfrer fees. if we get the transfers right and keep our best players I see us up there with the best next season. a few class players will make us better than arsena l/ tottenham. reina / suarez / agger / lucas / johnson / sturrigde / gerrard are world class players. enrique is a quality left back. coutinho / sterling / shelvey / henderson / suso are young and will only get better. downing playing just not enough goals in him. borini we need to wait. skrtl dives in to often, quates proberly not rated by br. carra retiring we need a word class defender to replace him. just look what we already have, we need to sell the weak spots and replace them with class if we can do that I see no team we should fear in the pl including both teams in manchester. they would fear us. malta

Johnson - a world-class player? He is the luckiest player in the premiership.

Johnson is not world class, he is the worst first choice defender we have, he is awful at defending, time to get rid

majestic69

Johnson is not world class but he is one of the best. He lacks in defending but all full backs who bomb forward do except of course Lahm.

The problem is not Johnson. The problem is Lucas & Skrtel or Carra. Lucais not mobile enough to provide efficient cover for our defense.

When full backs go for that marauding run forward DM needs to tackle anything that counters & then the defender in Carra is also slow but he makes it up for his excellent reading of the game.

Whatever world class CB we bring in summer won't totally the problem. We need a proper DM ala Mascherano.

Successfully swapping Andy Caroll with Hatem Ben Arfa is the best deal that could happen regarding the English misfit

How much did he cost Newcastle again? Can't remember the fee paid.

He does seem to have injury problems, but still more of an asset than Carroll.

Jonesred.

Geordie fan here: Ben Arfa cost us £5m after his initial loan period (when he got injured at Man City and broke his leg).

Newcastle would not want Carroll back at St James. They have other targets abroad - can't blame them.

We will swap you Ben Arfa for Suarez plus give us £15m cash.

Ben Arfa is always injured. He also sulks a lot and falls out with team members and management. I reckon it would not be a good deal.

Hey Geordie fan good to get a toon view on it. Would you guys take Carroll for Ben Arfa in a swap.?

Just wanted a toon fans opinion on this one?

Jonesred

I'm surprised so many Pool fans would want Ben Arfa considering his past attitude probems and injury record. Newcastle would want a good fee for him too, I'd see it as a bit of a risk to say the least.

HB

05 Apr 2013 15:59:40
I will only take Ben Arfa if Newcastle include a 10m package, and then undertake to pay part of his wages for 2 seasons in order for them them to have Carrol. If not, we should just sell to the highest bidder and channel the money towards signing Christian Benteke. 17 goals and 8 assists is a good start for Benteke.

Lukaku finishes his loan at the end of the season, would be a good acquisition and fits FSG policy

05 Apr 2013 07:28:47
Not going to happen!
He would cost at least and I repeat at least £ 22 million! How does spending all summer budget on an area who doesn't need improvment fit FSG?
While we still will be needing 2 Cb and Rw and a Dm and a gk!?

Malak

I think these players should be our targets:
Gustavo DM/LB/CB
Eriksen/Honda/mikatoryian AM
Gaitan/Ben arfa RW
Dede/Williams/sakho CB

Right wing should be mertens Belgium players own the PL this season he would be a class above downing!!

Last two posts! It ain't going to happen

I like Lukaku but he doesn't really fit us.
