I reckon that it is players like Flanagan that have helped galvanise our team performance. We used to be a bit faint hearted playing away from home (which was a constant source of annoyance for me) but in the last 4 months we have found the necessary steel in our belief when playing away from Anfield, and I know it's a bit of a weird thing to say, but I think at least some of it is down to Flanagan. Not just in his performances, which have been spot on apart from a few errors, but the rest of the team seem to want to put in an extra bit of effort to see him do well. I might be seeing things that aren't there, but I hope that he continues pushing for a place in the first team for a long time. That turn to set up Coutinho was inspired. I am made up for the lad, and I also confess that I didn't think he would make the step up. I hope he keeps rubbing my face in it.

Seeing as it looks like Cardiff are going down, can't help thinking what a great signing caulker would be, doubt he'd cost for than 8 mil for a fantastic yound English talent, if anger or skrtel go I think he's the perfect replacement.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Medel Campbell Caulker any of the above please

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry, but I don't see anyone in Cardiff possessing the quality we will need to compete in champions league and the premier league. Skrtel has scored as many goals as Campbell this season. I truly don't understand the fascination with Medel and especially Caulker. But then again I also don't understand everyone's love affair with Shaw, so maybe I just don't understand the game.

Who knows exactly how much money we will have to spend in the summer, but we could make a rough guess based on the the champions league money, tv deal, potential top three or champions prize money plus player sales (Reina, Coates, Assaidi, Aspas) and anything the owners might give us. I think our transfer pot will be fairly decent this summer and BR will be looking to add a couple of "next level" players to the group.

From reading the posts for the last few months and watching every game this season it's clear BR will look to strengthen in three areas. A LB, a CM and a Wide Forward. Chelsea desperately need a striker and will certainly be looking at Diego Costa come the summer. My question would be what are the chances we would make a move, if this 32mil buyout clause exists? Did we not almost pull this deal off in August last year for around £23 mil? In the end Costa decided to stay stating his "love for AMadrid". If you look at Man City's squad over the last few years (and when they lifted the Prem) they have 3 or 4 very good or world class forwards, Aguero, Negredo, Jovetic, Dkeo, Tevez. If we went in for Costa again having just become Premiere Legaue champions I would be sure BR could convince him to join us and our "project" as they call it these days. Imagine Suarez, Sturridge, Costa, Sterling. All interchanging and capable playing anywhere across the front line.

Personally I would love us to go in for:

LW/ST Costa £32mill
CM Lallana £20 - £25mill
LB Shaw £30mill (Pipe dream I know!)

Anyway sorry for the long post just been thinking about these things for a while. Great work lads, Eds. Excited by tomorrow's game! YWNA.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think if we look at finishing position / Champions League / Player sales we shouldn't go above breaking even in terms of net spend. as we need to then start to think about FFP. & the TV deal increase would go along way to help keeping within the FFP rules.

My dream summer ins would be:
LF/ST: Luis Muriel: £17m
CM/AM: Lallana or Koke: £20m - £25m
LB: Cole: free
And that's without considering outs other than Aspas

If BR can do half with Muriel as he's done with Hendo (realising his talent) and half what he done with Sturridge (giving him a platform and a team for him to thrive in) then Muriel will be every bit as good as the striking options we have now, imo. Either one of Lallana or Koke will raise our CM to CL standards no question. Cole just makes sense, I haven't totally given up on Enrique. Neither one will be able to keep the no1 LB spot for a full season, yet both are extremely good. Plus, Cole's got to think this is the last big club he can play for if he wants to stay in England.

Agree0 Disagree0

Does no one understand the cost of Cole were he to come on a "Free transfer"
No doubt he would want a signing on fee. And I don't think we would be talking small change here.
Add to that his weekly wage.
Then there would be agents fees and tax's to pay.
All this for someone who is 33.
I say forget Cole and start looking for a dynamic young LB.
Any money that goes into Cole's transfer is dead money.
FSG will want to see transfer money spent wisely with the chance of a return if not a profit on a player should we sell in the future.
For me a great player who should now consider plying his trade abroad.
Not one for us IMO.
vrcomp
Y.N.W.A.

Agree0 Disagree0

Muriel would also be an excellent option. He's a real talent and would work well being trained by BR. Not an unrealistic target either as we can offer champions league football which is unlikely to be on offer at Udinese.

I can see the sense in Ashley Cole, champions League experience, played at the highest level, multiple title winner. Bit like brining in Toure last year for that character and presence. But I have to agree with the likely high wage and his age this would be no more than an expensive stop gap signing. Let's look at a young, hungry pacey left back who can be with us for the next 5-8 years. Rojo

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There was plenty of interest in Luis Muriel over last summer but none from Liverpool. Muriel he has signed a new long term contract at Udinese, but there is still interest from Fiorentina, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan. His focus is on getting in to the Columbian side for the World Cup and then perhaps he will see what offers are on the table this summer as he is not getting as much game time as he wants. If Liverpool are to be interested it would probably be as a replacement for someone else. Getting a work permit may not be easy either.}

Vrcomp in other words money spent to give Gerrard a new 2 year contract would be dead money yes?

Agree0 Disagree0

Hatch, I don't see the comparison between Cole and Gerrard. Stevie has been here 20 years, 16 in the first team, our captain for the best part of a decade and an inspiration for a generation of youngsters coming through the ranks.

Cole is none of those things, albeit a very good player as vrcomp admits.
If Chelsea are willing to let him go, probably because he wants a longer contract than they are willing to offer, why would we want to sign him? We're now shopping in the same market as Chelsea (hopefully) with at least cChampions League next year, if nt a title too. Therefore, I don't think Cole is worth as much to us as he would be to someone like an MLS team needing a big name to sell tickets. We need not getting into a bidding war over a 33 yo with no resale value.

If the price were right, however, ( in terms of limited signing on fee and wages in the £50-£75k pot) then I think his experience would be great. However, Cole has shown he tends to move for money, and on that basis, I agree with vrcomp that he will cost a helluva lot more than he is worth to us.

Z

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea are not offering Cole any contract. Liverpool has shown no interest in Cole.}

07 Apr 2014 20:44:57
Haych. What a ridiculous Comment to make.
Gerrard would not cost us a signing on fee, agents fee's and tax's to start with.
All we will have to pay is a wage that would be determined by him and LFC.
Cole would want a SIGNIFICANT signing on fee, agents palms would need greasing, tax's would need to be paid.
He is 33 and would not offer anything more to the team than what is already here. His form will no doubt be in decline over the next season or two and IMO we should not even consider him as a player. Thankfully as Ed02 has suggested we are not in the running for him. It would turn into another Kewell saga. A player on high wages, not getting much game time. A complete waste of a money all round. And thankfully those days at LFC are well and truly in the past.

{Ed002's Note - I am yet to be convinced by the Kewell returning to Liverpool rumours.}

I would love the Adam Lallana rumours to be true. He's valued at upwards of £20 million but he's a very special talent and one that has proven he can perform in the premier league and on the intentional stage. I think we should bid for him before the word cup in case his value sky rockets even further. He would certainly add another link option between our midfield and the SAS(AS). His ball retention is excellent and he has so much drive and energy. Would love him sat in the number 10 role when Coutinho is not playing or even have him coming in off the left and interchanging with Coutinho in the middle. Anyway probably not going to happen, but still I would love him at our beloved club none the less. YNWA.

I agree a great signing and I think would make our team stronger, I also think we should be careful with spending and only get in a player who can really make a difference and no more aspas, albero, illorii, assaiddi players just additions who the nuts

With Gerrard turning 34 next month, I expect Rodgers will be looking to bring in a player of similar ability to rotate with him next season. Especially now we have the Champions League to compete in.

The new player needs to have the quality to distribute the ball going forward, and the ability to get back and break up the play of the opposition. He will need to be young and as he will eventually become Gerrard's long term replacement.

Any Ideas who this playmaker could be? Will Hughes, Dani Parejo, Fernando?

Red Rum

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is certainly not Fernando.}

Hughes ain't deep lying

Agree0 Disagree0

Red, by naming Fernando, do you mean the man they call the Octopus, he is very good .

Agree0 Disagree0

We got Lucas we need a Gerrard from the 2005 era to one day turn into the Gerrard of 2014 like Lallana.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Apr 2014 19:58:56
Hi Ed's
Seen a lot written about parejo, personally don't know too much about him but used to watch a bit of him in his younger days on loan away from real and see odd bits now and again but seems similar type of player to someone like coutinho with flair looking for forward balls or maybe could do Allen's job and keep the ball moving. Is this about right or does he have other sides to his game?
Personally don't see that as the type of player we should be after, great quality I'm sure but I feel we need a bit more box to box type player for when Henderson isn't playing as an ageing gerrard and Lucas and Allen have very little dynamism or pace about them, do you know of any players of this type we are looking at
Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You do Allen a disservice. He is very mobile and his off the ball work, pressing in particular, is right up their with Henderson.

Paul mc

Agree0 Disagree0

Not at all, I really value Allen and think he is a great player and presses well. However he is not really a box to box midfielder and he does not make those runs Henderson does into the box anywhere near as much as is well known for not being quick and therefore would leave our midfield very slow

Eds and reds,
Coates, Cissokho, Moses, Coady, Reina and Assaidi are likely to leave.
With a wide forward (Viktor Fischer or Andre Ayew), one or two midfielders (Dani Parejo and Will Hughes), and a left back (Ryan Bertrand) likely to arrive.

Perhaps two of Glen Johnson, Martin Skrtel, Daniel Agger or Jose Enrique will leave.
Liverpool promoting academy players or buying replacements if necessary.

If this summer transfer window happens, as expected by Ed02, what would be your reactions?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can't see ed 2 even coming close to thinking that we would be buying Fischer.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Viktor Fischer has been subject to recent interest from Milan, Manchester United, Manchester City, Roma and Werder Bremen. Ajax has negotiated a new contract with him but might let him leave as, when fit, he has not been performing at all well. There is a suggestion that Liverpool might be interested but it remains unconfirmed although they have certainly taken a look.}

Fischer, Ayew. No thanks.

Parejo, Hughes. We need a deep lying playmaker to rotate with Gerrard next season and eventually replace him long term. Both are young and have the potential to do well at a big club.

Of the 4 defenders I think we would miss Enrique and Agger the least. Personally I would keep Agger Skrtel and Johnson, but bring in a new left back. Maybe Bertrand, but I would prefer Ricardo Rodriguez.

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

Outside of Bertrand, I haven't seen enough of the others to really have any opinion of whether they'd be good or not. I do think Bertrand isn't much, if at all, of an improvement on Flanagan though so for me I'd almost rather stick with what we already have then go in for Bertrand.

Agree0 Disagree0

Red-rum is Lucas not able anymore? why spend £8m-£15m on a player that we have on the bench? if we play 41212 then we would essentially have 3 midfield playmakers (x2 CM and AM) to allow Lucas just to sit deep and dictate play.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lucas is a great defensive player Haych, however he is not as effective as Gerrard when dictating play. Going forward I would like us to have a player who is always looking for that forward pass to start off our attack. Gerrard won't be here forever and it would be good to bring in a young player with similar attributes.

I agree that we can play the 4-1-2-1-2 formation and there is no hurry in finding a long term replacement for Gerrard, but personally I prefer Lucas to come off the bench when we have a healthy lead in order to see the game out.

hi eds and reds having been on in awhile so you probably got asked this question already but sure he goes.now that sahko is back fit would you put him in for his strength against carroll 2moro, r stick with experience and a side that's winning, its just imo agger r skrtel having the strength for ac 2moro and it could cost us if not in points because of are forwards in goals which could be crucial come end of season.clean sheets are so important now imo, more than some people could realize.thanks eds

Evening all below is a list of players available on a free this summer who would you take out of this lot?

Ashley cole
Jeremy menez
Fernando reges
Montaya
Shirokov
Sagna
Few others but I've left them out as these players were the ones that stood out as quality additions rather than just freebies for the sake of it

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Fernando and Montoya would be perfect for our squad in my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

You forgot Caner Erkin (least I think he's still out of contract in the summer). Him I'd take.

05 Apr 2014 19:43:23
Guys guys and gals.
We all know Liverpool have literally Surprised every fan this season by how well they have done with using literally the smallest squad of players even through the injuries which would hurt Liverpool the most they are still challenging for he title so it's an incredible achievement so I think the fans should not be too disappointed when man city lift the title. They have spent the most money and have a bigger squad with quality so it was inevitable.
West ham will frustrate with their tactics which is the complete opposite to the reds, and I think it only takes a draw now for city to jus run away with the title
I also think Chelsea will not lose at anfield and city don't need to beat Liverpool next week to win the title.

So it's true when people say the league table will change every week and it has this weekend as lfc will not win away at west ham

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The table changes every week with points up for grabs in every game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lovely job. I was hoping that Red Lobster would post that we would be beaten and disappointed at the weekend - usually means that we are going to play out of our skin!

Agree0 Disagree0

Red lobster mate, I think your negative posts may be in contention with Ken's pants for lucky omen of the season.

"and spurs will definitely gain points today because I feel lfc will be nervous defensively and will concede goals today like nearly every game with this winning run"

"U all forget Manchester United will be up for this game more than any since the last time we played them. They will fight harder against Liverpool more than against Chelsea arsenal etc"

"so as I said after the aston villa game. rodgers is solely to blame WHEN lfc do not get a champions league spot."

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh RDL you have been quietly collecting evidence.

Agree0 Disagree0

Question red lobster. at what point does man city's squad size become irrelevant -20, 10, 6, 1 game to go? They may have the best squad but, on current form, we have the best team.

Confident we will do well today, certainly with evidence given above showing how your negative outlook has a positive effect on results. any chance you have become more pessimistic in 2014?

An excited red.

Paul mc

Agree0 Disagree0

Paul mc.

its not that i'm pessimistic. its just that i'm a realist and I've seen signs lfc will fall short towards the end of the season and man city will just power through with the extra personnel and quality.
yes Liverpool have outdone themselves so they will achieve their goal. its just they won't win at west ham or win every game and city will.
anyway guys enjoy the game today best of luck

Agree0 Disagree0

Red lobster

i don't know if it is just that you are hedging your bets. but in a season where we are currently exceeding every expectation, if you can't be optimistic now, then when can you?

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't write off a team that has a manager who actually knows what he is doing and has more than 1 system to play, who can play his top players in the first 11 and Get the best out of them.if you get a chance have a wee look at our matches against the 2 big spenders Chelsea and city and you will see for yourself how close to their level we really are, and while your at it have a look at are last match at old toilet and see your manager caught in headlights like a rabbit good luck celebrating getting draws at home.let's see how moyes tactics fair out this week personally can't wait.

Admittedly one for the completely random name pile, but given we seem to be perhaps looking at LBs- any thoughts on Kolarov? He's seemingly coming up on the last year of his contract at City and given his age I'm not sure City plan on extending it? Is there anyone looking at Kolarov that you know of Eds (I'm guessing we're not)?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I suspect Kolarov will stay - he certainly won't be moving to Liverpool.}

05 Apr 2014 18:23:27
What kind of player is Parejo ed? Do you rate him well?

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Seemingly one the fans don't want.}

06 Apr 2014 06:07:23
Ed02,
How can you assume Liverpool fans don't want Parejo?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Because there are numerous posts telling us that - and I have only seen a couple of posts in support of him.}

Well ed, it is simply that people that don't like him are more likely to post! I for one would like him, since he will be a stable squad player, and probably willing to be rotated.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not so sure Liverpool has the sort of money to invest in squad players that he will cost.}

05 Apr 2014 16:56:16
Hi eds, are you aware of any relegation minimum fee release clause in Caulker's contract?

It looks like Cardiff will be going down.

I can't believe all this interest in Caulker!

best option would have been L bender but now that ed 002 has said we don't have interest in him thise hopes are dead I know we are interested in Parejo but he doesn't seem to be a upgrade on what we have

Gutted for Sami! I'd like him to come work for us as defensive coach but it will never happen.

- DSR

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Only a few days ago Rudi Voller (i think) was backing him and someone on here announced that Sami Hyypia was given the dread vote of confidence.

I think Klopp has been useless in the Bundesliga this season, Dortmund's poor form would have showed up much more if Leverkusen hadn't gone on such an unbelievably shocking run of poor results. But that's football.

Another option is Will Hughes of Derby.
Who do you prefer or who is more likely?
Cheers YNWA

{Ed002's Note - No interest.}

05 Apr 2014 12:35:03
So people, what about Hyypia as defensive coach for next season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would he not be after a managers position?

Agree0 Disagree0

He would but better for a young manager to keep busy than be unemployed i.e. Like BR did when he got fired.

Would be good to have Sami back like. I remember how solid he was at the back.

if you guys had to decide to sell agger or skrtel who would you sell? i'd say agger due to the fact I think sakho is better then agger and skrtel has been our best cb for the season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Skrtel, agger is passionate about lfc and have been loyal to us for years. so has skrtel but would skrtel turn down barca for us? not too sure about that.

i would like to see toure and sakho / agger partnership with ilori as backup to toure and eventually replacing toure. right footed cbs are easy to find, left footed ones? not so easy.

we still have a few young cbs who could come in even if ilori doesn't make it.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd be willing to sell both so see what offers come in and who else we could sign. Skrtel is prone to mistakes and Agger's concentration is poor. Both seem to easily lose their men defending corners and free kicks.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would never have wanted to see Agger go but since we have Sakho I'm less worried out our LCB position. Skrtel has been great this season, has made some questionable mistakes as well to the point were I wanted him to get booked(yes I said it), but to sell both in the summer would be dangerous & would be an unnecessary risk. Though if Agger is sold we need a CB that can challenge for a starting spot as much as Sakho and Skrtel & most importantly than can play both LCB and RCB with the same ease like J.Boateng, D.Lovren or A.Rami. Kolo will be valuable next season, it's going to be long one.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would keep both if we are in CL unless we need the money. I think we will have funds for the LB and LW which we are chasing. Back up DM and striker also needed

It's no secret now that Aspas wants out. Which is a shame; he never really got a chance to prove himself capable of playing for us. However who on earth - quite literally - could dislodge DS or LS? They're the best 2 strikers in the league & seem to score when they want to. Aspas is right when he says that he's not young, he's moving into his 27th year, normally a strikers prime, in August & doesn't appear to want to spend it on our bench, fair enough.

All I can say is that it's a shame if he does end up going as he's a top class character & in what was a very weak Celta Vigo team a top class player who, if he does go, will be missed to those of us blessed with vision that goes beyond the hysteria of British media & plastic fans, both of whom seem to have a lust for hyperbole.

Roll on West Ham,

YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He looked very good in pre season. But I can understand he wants to leave. We might be better with a younger understudy as players at his age want to play every week. That said I think ultimately if he was showing the staff enough behind the scenes he would have got more games

Agree0 Disagree0

I only saw him in one full pre season game and bits and pieces from the bench. He didn't look good enough. Ppl hyped him up too much. I expected a cheaper version of tevez with the talk of how hard working he was and creative. He looked lazy and lacking quality. Lazy in pre season might b ok if you're established but shouldn't you b busting a gut to impress when new and fighting for a place in the team.

Rodgers has seen him in training all season and barely played him so I'd take that as a sign the lad isn't impressing.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - So you think Rodgers was lying at the Press Conference?}

All managers talk crap and lie ed. Its in their contract. Lol

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Not all of them of course, but if you all think that Rodgers is that is fine by me.}

I think he just doesn't fit in with the style we play. We don't play the standard pass and move anymore we play with a lot of intensity and penetration as the boss says, which Aspas isn't up for and the same goes for Moses. Hopefully being young Alberto can adapt his game to our new style (though it would probably be in a deeper role CM) a loan to either Sevilla or Valencia would be great for him next season. Suso should do fine with the way we play now, same goes for Borini and Ibe and Assaidi but he will probably want to play therefore will likely leave.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's a shame that he hasn't been brought on during games we have been comfortable in or if we had cup games he could have grown in to because when given a few minutes he has shown he isn't strong enough and the EPL is so much faster than the Spanish game, whenever he has come on his touch has let him down.

A younger understudy or an older experienced leader to come off the bench is definitely the way forward

Agree0 Disagree0

Didn't hear/see that press conference. What did he say about him?
