Rodgers isn't good enough. Chelsea beat us 2-0 last year cost us the title and Brendan had a go saying liverpool were only team that tried to win and Chelsea were negative. They beat us 2-0. A draw would have sufficed. and he still hasn't learnt tactically naive

Do manager costs, wages, paying off other managers clubs and compensation for sacked managers count towards ffp Edds?

Surely this will massively hinder our search for. Different manager if that's whatbthe club deem appropriate? Not going to leave much in the kitty for the new man?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Of course they count.}

I wasn't sure, bit harsh I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Sorry but just to be clear, everything counts except:
Excluded Expenses
(1) Depreciation of tangible fixed assets. Example: The loss, if any, in value of the stadium, cars, IT equipment etc..
(2) Costs associated with the intangible fixed assets (other than player registrations). Example: goodwill, franchises, trademarks, copyrights etc..
(3) Expenditure on youth development activities. Example: All youth development expenses (housing, schooling, travel, medical etc.) are excluded from the calculations.
(4) Community development activities. Example: Outreach programmes, donations to the local community and charities, provision of equipment etc..
(5) Tax expenses. Example: Monies paid to the Inland Revenue, VAT etc..
(6) Finance costs related to construction of tangible fixed assets. Example: The interest on the £150M or whatever loan to update the stadium.
(7) Interest payments on old loans (pre June 1, 2011). Example: Any interest due on a loan taken out for whatever purpose before June 1, 2011 is excluded from the calculations.
(8) Certain expenses from non-football operations. Example: This does not really apply to British clubs, but in other European countries clubs are often “sporting clubs” and have basketball, football, hockey team etc. all under one business.}

hi Ed002, re manager list last night thanks for the reply I understand you don't want to answer it to the extent I would like. I to don't get why the obsession is give managers 5 years to fail even though it results driven business I love your saying cut the worm from he apple its so true yet people can't see that they say give him time yet they fail to realise a decent manager could of spent half the money Rodgers has spent on 3 FIRST team players not squad players and we could of challenged again.

but he wastes money again your saying kid in a cndy store and then blames every one and any thing but him self. I a have said from day one it was a job to soon. but I don't realistically no who would be a good choice to replace him I always like rafa but is that what we need? that is why I asked for the list but I totally understand you reasoning cheers

Hi Eds/Reds,
Just wondering what your opinions are regarding whether the location of Liverpool FC, hinders our progress? With Sanchez choosing arsenal over us and the fact even with money, attracting good players to mersey side has been pretty difficult for many seasons. Would we have a better team if we were based in London? Also eds, you're probably sick to death of manager questions, but honestly who would you have take the saddle? thanks

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - London is more attractive to players than most other cities. Would you like me to list this seasons Liverpool squad if they were based in London?

Murat Yakin.}

Just thought I would post something different. Has anybody seen the ticket arrangements for the semi final (assuming we get there!)?

LFC have been allocated 31, 997 tickets for the semi final should they get there.

Prices vary from £33 in the parachute seats to £63. Priority holders get a ticket and then there are going to be three sales for season ticket holders, members and fan card holders.

All tickets are on a first come, first serve basis.

Tickets for priority ticket holders will be available on April 10 from 9am until 8pm from the Anfield ticket office or the booking line. You guys are guaranteed a ticket.

For season ticket holders, members and fan card holders tickets are for sale online only. THERE IS NO BALLOT THIS YEAR due to the short timeframe between the replay and the semi final.

Sale one is from 10am on April 9 until 8am on April 10 and is for those season ticket holders, members or fan card holders who have recorded three or more FA Cup matches this season. You guys would be guaranteed a ticket.

Sale two which is from 10am on April 10 until 8am on April 11 is for season ticket holders who have recorded two or more FA Cup matches this season. Again you guys are also guaranteed a ticket.

Sale three is from 10am April 11 and is for those like me that are members or fan card holders who have recorded two or more FA Cup matches this season. Unfortunately for those like me we would not be guaranteed a ticket. Tickets will be available first come first served on the online ticket system.

Now I wasnt a fan of the ballot, and I understand why the club haven't done one in this instance, but does the above not sound like a spectacularly bad idea. Anybody who has experienced the hopeless frustration and the sheer ball ache of the online ticket system will know where I am coming from. That is going to be an absolute bloody nightmare. You log on at 10.01 and there is almost certhinly going to be an hour long queue. If we beat Blackburn I can foresee next Saturday being a frustrating day. And that's before my national bets all fall before they even reach beechers.

Not sure rafa would be a good choice for the club. Yes he had a bit of success here but he was also backed up very handsomely by the owners.
If he came back, that wouldn't be the case at all. I'm not sure rafa is the type of manager to make do with what he has and develop he players already at the club to bring out the best in them, he seems to be more a chuck money at the problem and sign ready made players.
We need a manager to come in and bring out the full potential in our very talented but under performing squad. Then only buy 1 or 2 players each summer when absolutely essential and the accedemy players can't fill the gaps.

Believable3 Unbelievable7

05 Apr 2015 19:37:15
Not sure either he would be a good choice, but to say he was handsomely backed is a bit much. Had he been backed the last couple of years of his reign like Rodgers has been backed he would of faqired allot better

You can set a few restrictions/clauses etc in his contract that his role would be first-team based only with a little extension of duties towards the youth set-up and players wanted.
Don't forget it was him that really started the process of us actually having an academy that started to bring players through to the first team.
He didn't always want ready-made players. There are plenty of names out there that he wanted before they were the world-class players they are today> Ronaldo and Aguero are two that immediately spring to mind. I think he also wanted Ericsson & Jovetic too.

Is Rafa the only manager that can manage LFC or are people just in some kind of timewarp and are incapable of leaving the past where it`s at? He is a control freak who wants total control and was a failure in the transfer market just like BR is as well as forcing Alonso out so why sould we sack one stubborn manager for another who a=has a history of filure with the club? Rafa`s time has gone and frankly, can people just leave him in the past.

Hi to all the EDS and fellow REDS

I am sorry to say that some of the posts sound like they were written by a bunch of school boys arguing in the playground.

Who would we get if FSG sack BR? Some of the candidates mentioned are hilarious. Klinsman, Simeone, Klop. ? Get real, will you?

As long as BR stops going to the media and predicting we'll come 2nd (remember?) we wil be ok. I for one still think we will sneak top4 looking at the other teams' fixtures, but who knows.
Everyone's on about reality checks yet they go on about players or managers that are perhaps, for the moment at least, out of our reach. My hope of top4 included in the above but we've had 2 bad results, just 2. And it ain't over till it's over so keep the faith, stop having a go at players and BR and judge once the fat lady has sung (sorry about that).

Come on Brethren and sisters, keep the faith. And that is someone who lives among Arsenal fans!!! Man, it's torture, but I will endure and hope to triumph! (Sorry again)

Why does the person who hypothetically replaces Rodgers need to be some internationally known name? He hardly was when he was appointed. 06 Apr 2015 00:01:17
BR has failed plain and simple. Many act as if he cannot be replaced and that there are no good managers out there or for some, ONLY Rafa can manage here espite being a failure here and a failure in a severely weak Serie A. Frank De Boer and Klopp have more success than BR and that is a act regardless of Klopp`s current issues. I will welcome them because they know what it takes to win trophies and will work within the structure of the club. BR is ripe for the chop and the owners will do that if they see it fit and many here will get over it.

I wouldn't say "top form" Trumours. United are playing well yes, but they're not exactly scaring teams into submission like they used to. During the AF reign, you could pretty much guarantee the result, no matter what team they had out.

Now, United have the "Gaalacticos", a supposed team full of world beaters that cost £60 Octillion to assemble, yet I have no sense of fear about United. Where as 3 years ago, even though they had a horrible squad, you still had that "it's not over yet" feeling even when United were 3-0 down.

I don't think u understand, Liverpool can't attract top players, last season 130m spent with CL football, this season it's very unlikely we will get CL again, but the thing you need to look at is we did have good enough players to get it if we had the right manager, Rodgers made huge mistakes at the start of the season which had us in relegation form, he changed the system which surprised teams, now again he has been found out, and it looks like he's going to be stubborn and stick with the back 3 even though it will be the end of our season, he's playing players out of position because he made serious mistakes with who he brought in in the summer so he's trying to figure out how to get markovic lallana coutinho sterling sturridge all in one team which doesn't work.

You say 2/3 top players it will most likely be Milner delph & ings while utd buy bale and co. I think top 4 could have been easily achievable this season with a different manager in charge, I think it'll be years now untill we're back init.

Good enough is not enough - they have to be better than the players of either Arseanl or united (or city or Chelsea).

Lets say defensively all three teams are not amazing. United have the following attacking players: Rooney, Van Persie, Di Maria, Mata and Falleini (who without checking I can guess he scored more headers than all our team combined this year). Arseanl has Sanchez, Girou, Ramsey, Ozil, Casorela, Wellback (and Walcott and Wilshare when not injured - sorry of all the miss-spelling). We have Sterling, Coutinho, Lallana and Sturridge when he is not injured which is about one third of the league. Not comparable in my view.

I think Arseanl and Manu underperformed early season and between our two meetings with Manu we overperformed.

Yes Sir Alex or Mourinho maybe could have got more from our squad but I am not sure anyone else would. The one place I think we could have done more with our squad was the EL. We should have beaten Basiktash, we shouldn't have left home half of our sqaud for that game. In general I think BR was a bit too careful with resting players at times. I think if Sturridge was fit on Saturday why not starting him. But in the PL our squad was worth 5th place in my view (you could argue BR messed the signings - that is a different story).

{Ed002's Note - You seem to have conveniently forgotten large numbers of attacking players Liverpool have.}

If you believe Rodgers has control of the transfers you are being very naive. We know for sure that several players were not his choice and I expect others fit in the same category. How many times has Rodgers said in the press that we need to bring in quality to strengthen the first team yet we end up with young players with potential.

The thing is there is a criteria which the players must fit to be considered, and even then the committee have to vote on the players to sign. I think it's a little unfair to put the blame on Rodgers when he has to put up with that. No other manager would work under those circumstances. It's a case of the club bringing in players and telling Rodgers to work miracles with them.

It's easy to say Rodgers messed up in the transfer market before the committee was assembled, but in actual fact Rodgers signed only 4 players (Borini, Allen, Coutinho and Sturridge) and 2 of those have turned out to be excellent signings. Borini will sell for same amount we paid for him and Allen would also bring in the majority we spent on him. So did Rodgers really do that badly on his own?

In my opinion, the club have brought in some excellent young players with great potential for the future and I suspect most will have their share of humble pie in a few years time when the likes of Can, Markovic, Moreno etc become very good players. However, it's clear to see that whilst preparing well for the long term future, the club aren't doing the manager or the team any favours by not bringing in the quality needed to challenge at present.

In my opinion, Rodgers should be given a little bit more freedom to strengthen as he would like. Fair enough, if it doesn't work then he has had his chance.

Red Rum

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - what do you mean only signed 4 players? Are you being serious or is your maths that poor? Borini, Allen, Coutinho, Sturridge, Assaidi, Sahin, Yesil just in his first season. Last season, before the transfer committee was in place, Sakho, Mignolet, Aspas, Ilori, Alberto, Moses, Cissokho, Toure, again more than 4! If you can't see why control of transfers was taken off him, then you need help with more than just your abysmal maths. The man is inept in the transfer market.}

Assaidi and Yesil were already in place before BR came in were they not? And Sahin was a loan. Therefore, Borini, Allen, Sturridge and Coutinho is 4. The transfer committee was put in place before the following summer when the likes of Sakho, Ilori etc were signed.

Red Rum, yo sound desperate which is killing your argument or quest for giving him the benefit of the doubt while the facts of the matter reveal the contrary. HE IS IN CHARGE OF TRANSFERS! That`s it, no if`s or buts about it. Yesil an Assaidi were signed under his watch and not under KK`s time here so your nfirst notion is false. He is a member of the committee hence, bears as much responsibility as the other members hence, if they the he should as well. He is severely useless in the TW which is why the commitee (a dumb idea) was set up. For me if any money should be given, it should be to another manager armed with a DOF who actually knows what he is doing and not to an inept coach who with a failed system who can`t adapt to the opposition`s tactics and who has blown a quarter BILLION with NOTHING so far to show for it BUT excuses, excuses, excuses.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - pointless arguing, he has no idea what he is talking about, the transfer committee did not sign any of the players brought in last summer. 06 Apr 2015 07:03:33
Red rum

Sahin was on loan correct but still cost 4 mil and wages and when Rodgers had him suprise suprise he didn't play him, or played him out of POSITION.

Just because he will get most of the money back for borini doesn't make him a good signing. he's spent most of his time on loan or on the bench.

Imagine if last summer, we got the other players we were linked with, Instead of the ones we got:

Lallana would be Griezmann
Balotelli would be Heung Min Son
Markovic would be Firmino
Lovren would be De Vrij
Moreno would be Bertrand
Can would be Andre Gomes

Not sure who other options to Lambert/Man quills were.

How many of them did we get right? i'd say 1.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

05 Apr 2015 17:58:27
U can't just name random names but we offered 8m for Bertrand and chelsea said no so we cheeper out and went for Moreno instead,
Lallana was amazing for Southampton and in the pl team of the year so u can hardly blame Rodgers for spending big money on him as his pressing style really suits our play.
Yes markovic was such a silly transfer when players like firminnho were avalible but your assuming he actually wanted to sign for us.
Lovren again was great for Southampton but we already had sakho who we all knew was better so why on earth was he brought 20m wasted for no reason.
Andre Gomes is a kid and prob wouldn't have made the impact that can has.
So really only Moreno Lovren balo & markovic was needless and a 65m mistake. That's what's gunna get brendon fired

Transfer policy is a complete and utter shambles.
We spent 20m on markovic when we already had jordon ibe and others available.

16m on mario after rejecting three more prolific and reliable goal scorers.

20m on a lcb, after spending 18m on a lcb the season before.

We left ourselves without a first class striker as partner/backup for sturridge, knowing he was likely to be out with injury for 10 games or more.

Add in overpaying for lallana, who- although a good player- we didn't need half as much as we needed a top striker.

Add in 15m for allen (7m too much), borini, aspas, alberto, ilori- the list of failed or untried signings goes on and on.

And to be fair to br, rafa, roy and kenny all signed their share of poor players.

Over the PL era we have spent an amount not vastly different to man utd on players, and yet our trophy count is woeful in comparison, and our squad has not often had their level of quality in depth, barring a few periods like 2008-9.

The frankly pathetic recruitment strategy is one thing that the club absolutely has to change if we are ever to succeed again.

Klopp works with a DOF at Dortmund so he will be a hypocrite doing that and he won`t get the job because the new manager MUST work under one, per FSG. As for transfers, BR`s errors are there for all to see so enumerating them is waste of time hence, if the committee goes then he goes, as Mikey rightfully said.

Too many people are wanting manager out now that CL is unlikely. We showed this year that we are not even close to a CL squad yet, and a season playing Europa league wouldn't be terrible, if the manager allowed young academy players to get experience for example. everybody quotes that it takes CL to attract top players, but reality is more complex. We didn't attract any of our top choices last year, despite CL. I think money talks, and location is also a big factor.

A lot of people also supporting Rafa as a replacement for Rodgers, which would be crazy. He did get us to CL every year, but that would all have ended with the rise of Man City whether he stayed or not.

Totally understand the down beat feeling and the comments towards Rodgers as, as always problems lay with the manager when results and a season goes like ours.

But I would throw in that slating players like Markovic is wrong. Please consider that he is around 20 yrs old, in a new country, new club with big expectation and pressure and played out of position.

This kid could be quality and total class under a different coach. Just lay off him and anyone similar. Can is he same, out of position, new club, country culture etc etc.

Let's see what they could do under a De Boar or Klopp etc before driving them out as if they're rubbish.

Rogers will definitely be our manager next season. The owners can't afford to sack him because not only will they have to pay him off but also pay compensation to the club a new manager comes from.And that's not taking into consideration the money the new manager would want to bring in his own players

Agree0 Disagree7

05 Apr 2015 17:08:50
Honestly, one more time I hear this out of position rubbish and I take a year break from this site. Can played very well as a defender and I heard no one complaining about him here, not even after the unecessary red card in a very bad timing when Skertel is already banned.

Markovich played in several positions this year and didn't impress in any. I cannot see how BR is responsible for the poor pass to Sterling on Saturday for example. He may get better with age, let's hope he does, though I wouldn't hold my breath. At the moment he is lacking in areas such as accurate passing, finishing and holding the ball under pressure from defenders. As you know Chelsea were considering signing him and decided not to and I can see why.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - actually you must have only not heard it because you read it here, with it not being a spoken word site! Lots of us have been saying it is a mistake to play him there, you need new glasses mate.}

Because a player plays in a CB position DOES NOT mean he is a CB. We have been screaming for weeks that Can would be found out vs better players and he has. So have Marko, Sterling and Lallana who play WB which shackles them and have also been found out. Everyone can see it BUT Rodgers which is why he is seen as stubborn and arrogant and never learning from his mistakes UNTIL it is too late which is the case for him now.

I agree on the not slatting the younger players , I think if most people mention them it's because there signings we didn't need.

I have maintained since BRs appointment that he is not big enough for this club. I don't like him as a manager and all in all nothing much has changed.

He is tactically short of requirements and despite having a decent squad cannot put a viable threat in front of Arsenal,

I do however feel he is an excellent coach and though it will never happen my wish would be to bring Rafa back and use BR as a coach. At he very least bring Rafa back.

There are a lot of good managers out there but we know Rafa and he knows us and the division. He has little to prove. Give him our squad and I know we are top 4 contenders. Let Rogers coach and damn we may even win it. Rafa would have few provisos and we would not need a DoF because we know he can do it.

Either way, let's hope the owners act fast.

hey ED2, you had mentioned in the posts below that many changes have already been made at Liverpool FC. Could you give more information on these changes.

i would also love to hear the opinion of ED and other people on below:

1. Should the owners still sack BR if some of options like Biesla are not available.
2. Should they sack him before lining up replacement, you know interim manager etc.
3. Up and coming manager or someone with experience
4. DOF needed or not?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There is a new commercial overseer now based in the UK; the commercial department has been shaken up; a new office has opened in London; the medical department has seen changes made; significant changes have been made within the scouting network with Harper, McGlynn and Johnson moving on and others coming in; Liverpool’s Head of Performance and Analysis, Michael Edwards, has a higher-profile role now. So lots of changes. I would expect Mike Gordon's role to change a little with his additional responsibilities, but I understand that strategically he remains in charge.

1. What makes you think Biesla is an option?
2. Why would they do that?
3. That is not how coaches/managers are chosen - they will be looking for the best fit for the club.
4. "DoF" is the hip term for Liverpool fans. It is very naïve to expect it to be a fix-all.}

05 Apr 2015 15:10:01
So for me we either need to get a manager with pedigree or a DOF with a footballing brain and a coach like De Boer or any up an coming young coach.

Rodgers will most likely not accept working under a DOF but if FSG let Rodgers run the show again then we are in massive trouble.

We have a massive squad filled with young players so hopefully we FSG bring in somebody who can attract some quality experienced players.

Think about this, LFC this season spent +-£120m on players, we had Champions League on offer but we failed and we ended up with Balotelli.

Think it is quite clear that with Rodgers at the helm we will not be able to sign players who can take us to the next level. He has not as yet and any club can go and find young talented players. That is the only route we can really follow under Rodgers.

Really hoping we can win the FA Cup this season but that should IMO not give FSG reason to allow Rodgers another crack at the whip.

I agree with some when they say we can't compete when it comes to wages but it seemed that this summer there wasn't much of a plan to replace Suarez. Sanchez was targeted and when we didn't get him it was like buying players just for the sake of it! Did we really have to buy lallana, markoviz and balotelli for a combined 60 million? couldn't we have spent that much much better?

To move forward change needs to be made, and that is what they are looking to do. Having Hogan in England will certainly shake things up and provide new impetus. Changing the scouting staff will hopeful allow the coach and the chief scout to be better informed. So it will be better I am sure.}

Support the club and stop all this crying cause sometimes it takes a lot to get things right, and the players at times just ain't up to the tasks at hand. Yes we need better players and more solidarity but the teams above us are expected to be and we still despite a horrid start give top four a good run and still have a shot at it if we get some results from our remaining games given teams above us slip up along the way. If you compare his first season to the current, you will realise that nothing has happend. We have been close to winning the league, but the fact is that we have won nothing. I get that people wants to give him a chance, because he has had a decent run of games, and that we shouldn´t write him off because of 2 lost games, but people seem to forget that we have been so poor for the most of the season.

It must be a lot less stressful sitting in your seat. because in mine its horrible. I have spent thousands watching the club I love all across europe only to see us mis managed off the field for the best part of 20 years.

This isn't a dig, just think your papering over the cracks mate. A team that finished second playing brilliant football, then goes on to spend £130m in the summer to strengthen, shouldn't then be expecting to miss out on top 4. Your CL campaign was terrible and you have a big game this week with Blackburn. We finished 7th , have had to bring a new manager which always takes time. Death with unreal amounts of injuries and had a terrible season by all accounts yet we are 8 clear of you? I think you need a reality check. You just said yourself we have an awful manager, we made a mistake in hiring Moyes and payed the price. Then lost so many influential players with rio, Vidic and evra. Plus an aging deteriorating squad.

The point is you have had manager consistancy. 3 years of Brenda , now 3 managers in 3 years like us. Plus we keep hearing about your youthful squad and no matter what you say you spend big again. You were without Suarez for 10 games, and did very well. Can't blame is all on that. We lost Ronaldo the best player in the world and made the champions league final the year after. You must like watching Thursday night football mate. When Rafa was here we played regularly at the top table of European football, semi finals, finals, even winning it. As for signings, when he was backed by the owners he signed quality such as Torres Alonso, Luis Garcia, Reina, Mascherano etc. When Hicks and Gilett turned gangster he lost lots of other quality players in deals he had set up when they wouldn't back him. He had to go for 2nd and 3rd choices eg Pennant instead of Dani Alves.

As for the list of names you reeled off, most were kids that all the big clubs take a chance on. In fact some of them, such as San Jose and Paletta are carving out good careers abroad.

As for boring football, you obviously missed the week we beat Man Utd and Real Madrid 4 - 1 and 4 - 0 respectively. Yes there were some tight games that you might call boring. Most sensible people would call them being tactically aware against superior teams to prevent being tonked. Spot the difference between that and Rodgers's tactical naivety.

What's not to like about Rafa? A tpp European coach, a proven track record of success, loves the club and, best of all, he's not Rodgers.

BR was under pressure during the holidays, and was close to getting sacked, he changed the system and it worked out for him. since the the Blackburn match, the system has been found out, but he hasn´t done anything to change it. I think he is being to naive, and he keeps tinkering with this 3-4-3/3-5-2 with little to no effect.
If BR needs to be under pressure to perform, then we will never reach 4th. Saying that we want to keep BR, is like accepting mediocrity.
The amount of money spent each season is increasing, yet this is nowhere to be seen on the league table. Spending 120M euro (according to the media) and yet we are regressing, is simply not acceptable.
Simply stating Rodgers out, is not a solution, a replacement is required. At the moment there is no obvious replacement, but I would rather take a chance than accepting 5th or worse.

-Frank de Boer
-Jorge Jesus
-Roger Schmidt
-Lucien Favre

All of these have experience with winning trophies - Something Rodgers doesn´t have. I have no idea if these are realistic targets. Maybe one day Rodgers will come good, but at the moment he isn´t showing progress.

We have plenty and young Ibe. This is why I hope we get in the right men this summer. Every year we are buying the wrong players. Why fans get so animated? Maybe it's because of the extremely poor PR done by Sterling's team. Fans are fans, you simply can't expect us to see the implied meaning behind every little media game being played.

Sterling and Berahino have the same agent who on the face of it, is a money-grabbing DF who will ruin their careers at this rate due to the bad decisions they make on his watch. As for Walcott, no comment.

I would like changes to be happening soon and not until the middle of the summer.Rodgers cclearly is for the sack but it would benefit the club more if we got in a replacement sooner though unlikely to happen. We need a new gk that's a given and someone in to sort out our central defence and put the right players in there. Skrtl is our worst defender regardless of what brendan thinks. I would like to see lovren/Sakho/llori given time in pre season to form a central partnership and a top defensive coach in to improve them and organise the entire defence because flannaghan and moreno will turn out outstanding if under the right man. A few players need shipped out at the back
Midfield wise Gerrard is leaving and I presume Allen because he hasn't shown to be good enough. We have lucas and can who are central/defensive midfielders and henderson who will get us a few goals but we need a top midfielder in. I personally would love keiderA, he's an outstanding player when fit and I would bring rossiter in more. We have enough attacking players and playmakers in lallana,continho,sterling and markovic but we need another 20 plus goalscorer in who can play in our system. We have only one top striker in our squad and he's injury prone. Lambert, ballotelli and borini look set for the door or atleast two of them and origi I am totally unconvinced by.
A new manager, dof, the squad trimmed and 3 top players in. And to help fund that I would sell sterling if someone offers 30 plus million. We have young Ibe who will be an outstanding player. Klopp would be a difficult managerial option to get but would my my top choice fall back de boer and the sooner we act the better because man city will be looking for a new manager

Al,

When you say Rodgers is clearly for the sack. I'm not saying I'd agree or disagree, but I think NEUTRALS/MEDIA etc would still think that after last season and (admittedly, "just") 2 months of this he'd be safe for another couple of years and if pressed now they'd collectively say he was one of the safest premiership managers currently.

i honestly think if we sacked him in the summer, it would by far be the summer's biggest talking point. talk of "not giving young british managers a chance" and general amazement all round. i bet ya!

sounds daft in a way but only liverpool fans COULD want brendan out if that makes sense?! whereas someone like pardew at newcastle or harry at qpr, fans of any club would see they were doomed.

generally just saying that what we think is nailed on, everyone else will think BR is doing great and would be surprised.

I agree with you mate. Pundits and the media have been applauding Rodgers but let's be honest they haven't a clue and love to hype a story. He has failed at everything this season but the outside are oblivious to it. We should only worry about our own club

They have no idea what they are talking about because some of them don't want to be seen as bashing the manager. We know better and we know BR is on the chopping block. He has been a failure and his record so far since he arrived has been poor. You will never hear that from the clueless pundits who do nothing but echo other peolple's spin

{Ed002's Note - I thought everyone wanted to give Rodgers another few years Mike?

I have explained over and over that the owners want the best for the club and have had various people look at the club from top-to-bottom - and that has included discussions about the coaching staff. I don't want to speculate about who might be of interest if Rodgers were to leave as it simply draws abuse from those fans who are seemingly satisfied with repeated mediocrity and his failure to achieve the commitments for this season. You can be assured that he will have a battle to keep his job though.}

Ed will he be fully aware he has a battle to keep his job or might he think fifth place will be enough? Surely if it's that clear cut the club will already have replacements lined up or in mind.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He will be well aware of the situation and has already spoken of his fear that he was to lose his job early in the season. I am not sure what you mean by "clear cut" - I don't think anything is settled right now.}

05 Apr 2015 17:48:16
Here you go Mike - found this from a little while ago from Ed. Things may have changed since.

{Ed002's Note - There will be all sorts of realistic targets and the club are sensibly taking the time to plan the way forward. In the longer term, if Brendan Rodgers were ever to leave you might want to consider:
(a) De Boer - a favourite of Ed001 who he dreams of)

(b) Rafa Benitez (mentioned to me by a prominent sports lawyer on the way the some meetings in Monaco with me last Monday)

(c) Laudrup (preferred as part of a team by someone close to the situation). There will be plenty of other options.}

Watched the Carragher programme on Sky and he said he did not want to go into management as he saw what it did to former managers. Then his Dad said that he would not want to move away from the area he lives.

I know most fans would not want to go down the inexperienced manager route again and this would never happen.

I'm not saying Rodgers should be sacked but people saying that changing managers does not lead to success should take a look at Madrid, Chelsea and city and bayern all sack managers who won trophies (not just scored a few goals for one year) and are all still challenging for titles every year.

Perhaps constant managers is a way of the past? Like I said in not saying we should, I'm just saying lol at those who are most successful recently.

All the teams you mention change managers regularly, also have mega bucks owners, who buy whoever the new manager wants, we don`t, so have to work organically and grow over a longer period.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - It is always this "how hard done by are Liverpool" - whose owners have backed the managers to buy whoever they want - Liverpool have spent vast amounts of money on players in recent years and change players far more than most other clubs.}

05 Apr 2015 13:31:40
Just to turn it on its head a bit. If we hired the right manager in the first place maybe we wouldn't be changing the players so regularly as we do in the persuit of the "holy grail". There are other issues that need sorting so you don't put the cart before the horse.

To be honest lavers that looks our best chance at the moment. I think Chelsea will beat United as mourinho will know winning that should guarantee the league. city on the other hand I'm not so sure.

Hopefully city drop at least a couple points tomorrow then even though I still think our best chance is catching man u but if city don't perk up you never know!

We just need to make sure we win all games up to Chelsea as they are winnable and reevaluate then. if we don't do our job there's no point even hoping for top 4 as we wouldn't deserve it!

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Apr 2015 10:24:13
It is over people. 4th ain't happening no matter how much we hope and pray. The most points we can get is 75. We still have Chelsea to play away and Stoke away on the very last day.

Even if UTD loose both their following 2 matches, they will still be ahead of us. City are ahead of us with 7 points too with a game in hand and highly doubt they we will get ahead of them either.

The top 4 has been decided. Now we have to battle it out for 5th and a Spurs win today and they are ahead of us also.

What a pathetic season this has been.

Agree7 Disagree1

05 Apr 2015 11:04:56
Yeah if United lose their next two they're still ahead of us but then there next two games away to Everton and palace probably become as difficult as the first two with the mounting pressure. I would focus more on we need to do our job but our next 4 Newcastle hull qpr and west Brom. if you look at man United's next four you'd probably in a one off situation put money on them dropping points where in ours probably not.

So saying it's completely impossible is a complete over reaction considering probability would have us 3 points behind United in two weeks time. then everything is possible.

I appreciate realism but there's no need to completely write off our season when we still have a lot to play for! Put it like this if the players also have your attitude then you'll proved right but I certainly would hope not.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Apr 2015 12:27:45
My attitude ShaneK?

After Rodgers said "I very much doubt we'll be in the top four now come the end of the season, there's too much ground to make up - that's the realistic view for me."

What a joker of a manager Rodgers is yet some will make as if it is perfectly fine for him to do as he pleases?

Forget top four Shane, take it from me.

I have been in the 'give rodgers one more season' camp if I'm honest, but not any more. I know our options were limited yesterday but hendo not in the middle was horrible. Sterling was so isolated, we were so deep it allowed arsenal to play exactly where they wanted. Yes toure had a shocker, but would lovren do better? We had 3 at the back, two of which you wouldn't pick as starting centre backs, so why not play 4-3-3 with Henderson lucas and Allen trying to break up the middle? Keep coutinho forward, not as a left mid as he was yesterday effectively, we basically ended up playing 5-4-1. Sakho should have man marked giroud, lovren or toure be free, can right back, moreno left back but told to sit back. Then lucas could sit and Henderson and Allen press santi and Ramsay. At least if markovic coutinho and sterling were up at a three we could have a chance of breaking, and troubling mertersacker.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

05 Apr 2015 10:04:15
I actually thought we played a lot better in the first half than second personally. not defensively but as you said toure had a shocker and you can't realy account for that as a manager if presumably he was good in training all week. Players were much more free flowing and finding space in the first half And we just got screwed especially in my opinion after the free kick that was a big moment for me!.

The second half arsenal played a hell of a lot worse and sat back and we had no ideas. the space was there to catch them in the first half and bar a sloppy pass from markovic we could have been two or three up at half time. I'm excluding talking about the first 5 minutes as all there is to say is arsenal flew out the box and didn't let us find our feet

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Apr 2015 13:20:26
They didn't need to chase the game hence sitting back and playin counter attack. We were poor from start to finish and the worst thing was that they didn't have to break a sweat to beat us because BR messed up the tactics by playing a system that teams have figured out and not giving them something else to think about tactically.

With our season now over in respect of the League, it might be prudent to send out a few messages to some of our superstars.
I will probably not be renewing my season ticket for next year because of the obscene nature of the finances and the lack of value for money in watching football nowadays.
Sterling isn't worth £10,000 pw let alone £100,000. He couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo.
Kolo Toure is awful and Joe Allen is a liabilty in midfield.
This season has been a failure despite a half-decent run of form.

Must admit I only went to two games this season as I no longer live in lpool, but both times I went to the match the team played very poorly, and I went away wondering why I'd made the effort when the players themselves didn't seem all that bothered.
I don't think joe allen is as bad as people make out and he did have a few good games, but he doesn't look like a top four quality player to me.
Yet another player who was worth about half what we paid for him (not his fault we paid 15m though), and for whom we will get about a quarter of that fee back when he moves on.
I wonder if anyone has done an analysis of fees paid for players against fees gained when they were later sold on?
Suarez apart, Lfc have to be amongst the worst transfer performers of all the PL clubs in recent years.
We need to seriously wise up in our transfer dealings.
